(00:10):
All right, four thirty four isour time. You were listening to ninety
seven to one the Freak, andit is a speakeasy with you. We
got plenty of time left here.We got a little fun drive coming up,
and then we will take you ona trip to the Sunset Lounge as
(00:31):
we always do every day at fivethirty five. But too before we get
to either of those things. Whatwe've got this the mister Dallas theme that's
coming Maddy's on Comics, Dallas,Texas, Mister Dallas Texas from the cup
(01:03):
you have to take Cuban Buddhist Dallas, Dallas, Texas. Clyde Warren Park
Longer, the Design District, Dallas, Texas, Crackles, Redbird Ball,
John Wallie Price Dallas Texas, DallasTexas is mister Dallas, Dallas Texas.
(01:37):
Mister Dallas, Dallas Texas. MisterDallas. Oo oo oo Dallas statsa Dallas,
(01:59):
Danxas. How's it going cool?If you guy's a lake? You
are right? Everybody having a goodday in here? Oh crushing bro?
What about you? No, I'mhaving a great day. Yeah, when
you're mister Dallas, every day isa great day. And you know I
(02:21):
am I cannot imagine every day beinggood. It's always good when you're mister
Dallas. That's cool, man.Maybe when you grew up you could be
mister Dallas. Maybe maybe you canmaybe when he's no longer part of this
mortal coil. That's right. Ifyou play your cards right, someday this
could all be yours. I couldreceive the mantle and the estate. Yes,
(02:46):
that's right, you can, andall that goes with it. A
picture that you may have, alike a lakewood estate with a nice like
right there on the lake. That'swhere I picture mister Dallas, a few
hundred feet of shoreline in the backyard, I mean wrong, putting green next
to the pool, of course.Oh yeah, and I don't even play
(03:08):
golf. You're leaving that to us. Yeah, well, we have a
new music venue coming, not toDallas, but to the area. You're
venturing now, Yes, we areventuring. We're venturing up to into the
northern urbs, which I don't like. But I think this is a pretty
(03:31):
significant story here. A Colorado companyis teaming with the city of McKinney.
Yes, they're gonna be mushrooms,Yes they are, hell yeah, And
they are going to build a newmusic venue up in Collin County. Now
(03:52):
you're probably thinking, Okay, it'llbe a nice little three four thousand seat,
you know, for small acts toplay acts that really haven't made it
yet. But this is a gobig or go home world we live in,
and they are going big with thisthing. This is going to be
(04:15):
a two hundred and twenty million dollaropen air amphitheater that could set up to
twenty thousand spectators. In other words, they are going competing with Dickeys,
with the AAC, with any otherarena that you might care to name it
(04:35):
commonly hosts music events. He said, this was where mister Dallas. This
is in Collin County. They're teamingwith the city of McKinney US seventy five
or Central Expressway as we know itin Dallas proper. And one one is
(04:56):
the vectors for this always confused thingfor me, because there's a man who
some call mister Collin County. Nothey don't, because I grew up in
Allen. Saying northeast of seventy fiveand one twenty one is very confusing because
that describes two different places. Oneone as you're picturing it like going through
(05:18):
the colony and all that runs intoseventy five in what may technically be like
the south end of McKinney, rightby Fairview. But then when you go
up seventy five a couple of milesand exit and go right, that is
also one twenty one. And soI'm not sure which one it is.
(05:39):
Yeah, the hilarious is confusing. It could be one of the two.
Well, this will be on fortysix acres northeast of that Victor and this
little Lakewood Charmer is going to haveover two hundred and fifty luxury fire pits.
Sweet, dude, I don't knowwhat that means, but that sounds
amazing. Fire pit sweet, Yes, fire pits sweet'll be great in the
(06:02):
Texas summer. Okay, well, okay, so the I have a rendering
of it, and it looks incredible, like it's obviously not usually live right,
Yeah, it's not the same size, obviously, but you know how
so far is in La is outdoorsbut also covered. Yeah, it's like
(06:25):
that where it looks like it's anoutdoor music venue but there is roofing and
covering over the amphitheater and it looksreal sweet. But yes, that is
just a rendering, and the renderinghas fireworks, so there will permanently be
fireworks in McKinney at this place isgoing on consistently all the time. Twenty
(06:48):
four to seven. Yeah, nowthis is all the work of Notes Live,
Inc. Founded by j. WRoth, who expects the venue to
host fifty to fifty five shows ayear, okay, one a week.
He said, we are a companythat believes music is a unifier. If
(07:09):
you if you ask a big roomto raise your hand if you hate baseball,
anybody, there are going to besome hands raised, mister Dallas,
not in this room. Well, mister Dallas, maybe that's true. Yeah,
I got no use for baseball.Yeah, it's a pagan game.
But if you say, raise yourhand if you hate music, you'll find
(07:29):
that not a single hand goes upright, But you could find somebody. But
yeah, rare to hate AllMusic, not you. Rare Notes Life has as
soon to be opened Colorado Springs Venue, and this project is being modeled after
that. The guy says. JwwRoth describes the McKinney version as the Colorado
(07:53):
Springs version on steroids. Well, yeah, to a much large larger seating
capacity. I mean twenty thousand. So that means, let me see AAC.
I want like a concert schedule, like Madonna is going to play there,
Aerosmith is going to play there. So they're thinking they are bringing the
(08:16):
big boys to play in McKinny.Yes, they will be in competition with
those venues that I mentioned, likeDickey's, like the AAC, any others,
Toyota's up to eight thousand. Yeah, I don't think Toyota or any
of those others are exactly in thatrange. In this range twenties big boys,
(08:41):
Yeah it is. I do loveit because even though I'm not up
there all that often, I dothink McKinney is super cool. Like this,
it's gonna be on the northeast corner. It's going to be across the
highway from the area where downtown McKinneyis. Yeah, but down like McKinny,
I think is an underrated music town. Not that I am a connoisseur
(09:07):
and go to a whole bunch ofthings, but like the downtown McKinney area,
there's usually not that it's big bands, but there's usually live music multiple
places in their little downtown area.Uh. I believe it's already closed.
If not, it's closing soon. No, it's closed. But Hanks and
McKinnie used to host a lot ofthe little Texas country bands that I liked,
(09:30):
and I would go up there sometimes. Yeah, so really yeah,
I like I like McKinny. Ithink mckinnie's got a cool little music vibe
to different parts of it, andI think that's pretty sweet if they make
it. Now they are promising thingslike three lanes dedicated for rideshare pick up
(09:52):
and drop off, which makes forsimpler ingress and egress for parking lots.
And it's like a train wreck, abundant restrooms so there aren't lengthy weight times
or distant hikes. I do likethat. I like lots of potties.
That's good. Yes, I knowthe ladies will appreciate that too. I
love and I love the indoor outdoor. I love the indoor outdoor like it's
(10:16):
outdoor but covered for what looks tobe most of the venue, and then
a lawn that stretches out where youcould put more people who aren't under the
covered part. And I don't knowif that's walled out of the area where
you can see the stage or not, but that looks like a really sweet
setup. Because when you say twohundred and fifty luxury fire pit sweets,
(10:37):
I guess what is that? Justsections of lawn where they'll have fire pits.
Because the word's sweet makes me thinkthat it's blocked off. But I
don't know how. I don't seehow you'd have two hundred and fifty of
those blocked off in an amphitheater. But what a cool way to do a
concert if you could like reserve afire pit area with friends covered on the
(11:01):
lawn. That sounds badass. Butif it's hot, Long seats and Notes
Live incorporate what they're calling hydro chilltechnology. What ahead of an event,
the company will cool the bead systembeneath the turf to just below seventy degrees
and for four to five hours, concert goers will enjoy what they call a
(11:26):
very comfortable experience. So the groundis going to be cool, I guess,
so we can just like roll aroundon it if we're hot. Uh
huh yep. I think they claimthat it'll make it like the entire like
the temperature in the amphitheater will beconsiderably lower. Yes, And I don't
know if they're doing twenty five degrees, so if it's one hundred and five,
(11:48):
it's eighty eighty five. Even thoughit's open air. That is wild.
Technology is incredible, that is Canwe do that like through the whole
city? That would be wonderful. Can we go ahead and roof this thing
cool the ground? Yeah, justmake a bubble for us. Now.
They've been working with the local municipalities. Maher Maaso, a former mayor of
(12:09):
Frisco and a principal at Dallas BatesRyan LLC with expertise in Texas incentives,
worked with him on this, asdid McKinney Mayor George Fuller, who is
a musician himself. Everybody's coming toNorth Texas because we catch you deals in
the business world, and he wasthe one who reached out to them about,
(12:30):
uh, hey, maybe you'd liketo do uh something like what you're
thinking about up here? You didyou mention Chad Hennings? Not yet?
Okay, I was getting there though. Okay, that was just a funny
nugget I saw. Yeah, heis on the board of directors of Notes
Live. Former cowboy Chad Hennings, who if I remember right was he was
(12:52):
he a pilot in the military.Even though he was a large man.
I feel like he was a pilot, which seems wrong because he's too big,
right, you think, no,he was. Yeah, he was
air Force. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he was a pilot training.
His ground training studies faltered. Hecompleted, yeah, fighter training. He's
(13:16):
a very interesting man. He wasonly eligible for a few different guys aircrafts
because he was so big. Nowhere's another thing that mister Roth, the
guy who's stringing all this together said. He said, notes live deals with
municipalities all over the country, andthere are two types, those with a
(13:37):
vision and those that come to everymeeting with a deal prevention team. Oh
no, Colin County wants you there, He said. There's not a single
person on the leadership team in McKinneyin the deal prevention business. No,
man, if you and I know, this is that way in a lot
of places. But I'll say itlike I moved to Allen when I was
(13:58):
ten years old, so it's twentynine years ago. And depending on how
familiar you are with the area, there was nothing north of McDermott Drive.
And now if you go up thenext couple exits hell, it goes into
McKinney and then Melissa and then Annalike things are growing so fast. But
the amount of restaurant, bar, whole complexes of those sorts of things that
(14:22):
continue to grow in the Allen andUp area. Boy, there are so
many things that just keep on comingand keep on coming. Yeah, it's
cool. Now. I mentioned themayor George Fuller a minute ago, and
he is a guitar player for theMaylee Thomas band. If you've ever heard
them, Maylee Thomas is his wife, and I've heard them several times.
(14:46):
They're quite good. So this isgoing to happen. And it sounds like
they've got some people involved in thiswho have some sort of idea and know
what they're doing. And if theycan do what they're shooting for here and
pull this off, it'll be somethingto see and a good place to see
a show. Yeah. I cannot that we don't have a lot of
(15:09):
those already in town, but thisI think. I think I haven't one
up north? Is cool? Ido too. You've got them west,
you've got them down here in Dallas. You don't have one nearly that big
up that way? Do you?I guess no, not like that.
It's just it just is interesting tome. I guess a big giant thing
(15:31):
like that that far north. Imean it's so far for so many people
to have to travel to go seea show. I don't mean travel,
I mean just drive. Like forpeople to live in Dallas, that is
a hall Yeah, but flip it. Think about how many people right now
have to go from Well and that'swhat they chose to do by living so
far away from the city. Andnow they won't have to travel as far
(15:54):
like Frisco. Yeah, it'll becloser for people in Frisco than Dallas or
Fort Worth or well Irving. Yeah, I'll be closer as a bunch of
people up there. Man, thesuburbs needs dis election. And when it
comes to seeing shows, if peoplewant to see it bad enough, they
will go wherever it is. Yeah, and they will think nothing of it.
(16:15):
I don't know. I'll travel forshows and things like that. But
it is a little bit of alike buzzkill. When I realized, like
when the Byron moved to McKenny, you know, it was like it's just
you know what, You've got toplan for an hour they're an hour back.
There's any traffic, Absolutely no wayif you plan on having any drinks
that you should be driving that bar. So it's just a lot of like
(16:36):
tired head stuff. Yeah, yougot to plan a little bit. But
I mean, yeah, for thepeople that live in McKinney, they love
it, But aren't there a lotmore people in Dallast then? I mean,
I guess it depends how far youtake that bubble if I go,
if I go planeo Allen McKinny,Frisco. And I have no idea about
population numbers, but that's a lotof damn people. Yeah, as a
(17:00):
lot of fan for years, that'sall we've heard is everything is rolling north.
And I know that in the world, Like there's been so many places
recently that we've talked about where itseems like the live music thing maybe since
COVID never bounced back, Like thenumber of places that have closed their doors.
(17:22):
Yeah, it is really sad.And I guess I don't know how
with the competition they'll have within theown metroplex, Like will it be tough
for this place to make it oris it a no doubt, Like oh
no, there's demand and they canget the acts. I would imagine if
you're a brand new place, theywill just pay more to host whatever would
(17:44):
be going to the AAC. They'lljust, at least initially, they'll just
be like, yeah, we'll giveyou more money. There You're getting into
an aspect of that scene that I'venever really understood, And that is just
exactly how it is that these showswind up at the specific place as opposed
to another one, right, youknow, I don't understand how that works.
(18:07):
Probably just sheer arena availability has asmuch to do with it as any
anything else. But and i'd imaginethe checks they write, like is Dickies,
what do they hold? I thinkhe holds fourteen? So I would
imagine that Dickies the AAC and nowthis place in McKinney. Yeah, it's
the same act. I would imaginethey're in contact with all three, like
(18:30):
how much will you give us?Like the Jonas brothers were at Chuck taw
Right and like that place holds threethousand. I think they paid the hell
out of the Jonas brothers. Yeah, because they can fill much bigger places.
I would imagine it's just yeah, the AAC is going to give you.
I have no idea what a bandthat plays the AAC makes a million
(18:52):
dollars five two hundred thousand. Ihave no idea, nor do I somewhere
between one and five. But ifyou're in Kenny and you're just opening,
and I bet you you just takethat same act and you're like, yeah,
we'll give you double that. Wegotta get this same going. We
got to build this as the placewhere people come. And if you got
the pockets for it to get itgoing, then hope that mean for ticket
prices for the people that are tryingto go to the show. I don't
(19:17):
And again I am totally spitball onthis, but I think if you're stepping
into the realm of the same actsas the AAC, because like I'm just
gonna throw out random names like Taylorcan play AT and T. But does
Olivia Rodrigo go to the AAC?Probably she was just here. Is that
where she played? You do ATand T? I don't know. But
(19:38):
if it's that level of act,you just write the bigger check. And
I'm trying to strategize as if I'mthem, I don't crank up the ticket
prices because of that. Yeah,I'm just trying to win a base of
people and the awareness of we havethe acts here, come here, Come,
(20:02):
here, come here, and theneventually you become on even footing with
the other venues. Just a coupleof nights ago, Stevie Nickson, Billy
Joel played the the At and TYeah. Yeah, and they packed it,
man, did they? Yeah? They did? Olivia was it okay?
So whatever Olivia got to be atthe AAC. You just tell them,
Yeah, I'll give you if it'sa If she's getting one hundred grand
(20:26):
or two hundred grand, I'll giveyou three. Come up here. Yeah.
You do that for five shows, and suddenly you know you're on the
map. You're ready rock. Ihave no understanding, no knowledge, no
nothing of how all that stuff worksand exactly what determines where a band who
is coming to Dallas Ford Worth theirtour is taking him through here, how
(20:49):
it's determined where they're going to play, and just what sort of deal is
made there. I just don't understandthat, so I'd best shut up about
it. Yeah, shut up,I gotta go. Oh God, shut
up and leave. Dude. Itwas great to see you, though,
all right, It's to speak easy. It's ninety seven won the freaking we
(21:10):
are cruising along and coming up next. It is time to dip our toes
into a little fun drive and youare going to love it. We'll do that next
