(00:04):
Guess it is, and we arejust getting rolling here. It is Mike
Render, Jeff Kavanaugh, Julie Dobbs, the whole thing, produced and ridden,
heard over by Shoopy in there. Now, in just a little bit,
we're gonna have the bucket. Butright now, before we get to

(00:25):
that, as we do this timeevery day, we bring on this Julie
the sports disk. Is Julie thesports desk. Julie the sports disk,
It is me sports desk. Allright, So we're in the middle of
a Ranger game. Actually, we'realmost done with this Ranger game. We're
in the top of the eighth inning. The Rangers are in Detroit, wrapping

(00:48):
up this four game series, andright now this thing is all tied up
at seven. It's been a backand forth game week since you looked at
me. Rangers had a few homeruns in this game, so that's good.
But the big story, obviously wasJack Lder making his major league debut

(01:11):
today in Detroit. How did itgo, Julie, H Well, it
didn't go too well. It didn'tgo too well. It looked really good
right at first. You got somestrikeouts early after the first inning. I
was really excited. Yeah, Iwas great, three up, three down,
a couple of strikeouts. He wason his way to a great career.
Yeah, but it's just you know, one game. But he went

(01:36):
three point two innings before he gotpulled. He gave up eight hits,
seven earned runs, three strikeout. We I have an issue with the word
earned Yeah, because there was abit of a there was a kerfuffle humble.
There was two outs in the fourthinning and a deep liner fly ball

(01:57):
to center and Leoti Taveres just fartedon himself. But because the glove never
touched the ball, because he didsuch a bad job, it's not called
an error, and it's called threeearned runs. Those we're not earned runs.
That ball should have been caught onehundred times on by him. He
stinks for Jack. The Twitter reactionto that was insane. But do we
trade him yet? Basically no,just everybody just going nuts, like is

(02:20):
even is Leoti even a baseball player? Actually he's on third base right now.
Well, when he's done there,he can hop his ass on the
bus with Jack back to the roundrock. Yeah. Oh oh for all
god, oh god, weird stuff. Having a little bit of a pickle
situation going on. Okay, oh, but he got they called him,

(02:46):
let hit the deck. That's playerever the best. There we go.
He needs a little bit of redemptiontoday. So yeah, we got a
couple guys on the game is untiedleote scores. They weren't gonna let Jack
lose, do it? Forget Detroit'sfumble. Farting on defense is what's happening

(03:07):
right now? All right, let'sfocus on the show, guys. That's
what we're talking about. Here's theRanger game. So yeah, now the
Rangers are up eight seven, andthis is the final game of this series
before they head on to Atlanta.I will forever remember this as the day
that Jack liders team won his professionaldebut. I hope so, because,

(03:28):
yeah, if we win, thenmaybe whatever happened with his debut gets overshadowed
a little bit with the fact thatthe Rangers were able to get out of
the situation. We're able to getthe win. But you know, I
don't know, it's one start,so he's probably gonna take whatever he learned
from the start and try to growon it and build on it in all
of the things. I do havesome audio from before this game. Bick.

(03:52):
No, we're not going to sendhim back down to Round Rock already
we will, I don't think so. So this was the all eyes were
on Jack Lider today. This wasa big deal in for the whole league.
A lot of people were talking aboutit. I think it was on
MLB Network even like they carried itto show this game in addition to Bali.

(04:16):
And kind of cool too because withthis now Al and Mark Lyder have
become the first MLB brothers to eachhave sons in the league. Oh,
kind of cool. I did seeit. I saw a stupid thing where
when Jack Glider was five years oldin preschool, like he would just ask

(04:39):
the other kids, like what teamdoes your dad play for? He just
assumed everybody was a baseball That's justthe world he lived in. Was like
what is your dad played for?And the variation in jobs was which team
they played for. Yeah, sothat's kind of a cool stat there.
Okay, so there's a little bitof audio here from before the game.
Let's hear from Bochie just talk talkingabout what he saw in Jack Lder that

(05:01):
gave him the confidence to finally makethe call to elevate him and give him
a start. Been a little bumpyat times, just being fair. But
he's worked hard and he hasn't letup, and he spent a lot of
time this winter and you know,to get back to being a guy that's

(05:23):
you know, the Rangers drafted it, you know, just a few years
ago, and comes to the springtraining, it just got better and better.
And this kid's ready. He wentdown there and he did what he
needed to do, and he's earnedthis and so he deserves his start,
and again we're all looking forward toit. Yeah, all right that quote.
What he's really saying there is thisis just much as much about what

(05:46):
other guys didn't do as it iswhat he did. Really, Yeah,
which is kind of what we weredebating yesterday, like is he getting a
call it because the Rangers just reallyneed somebody, or because they feel like
after two years now of this experimentthat what they've seen from him in the
minor leagues is what they've been wantingto see. It could be some of
both. Yeah, I mean,he could legitimately be the best option,

(06:09):
but if other guys had done whatthey were hoping and thinking they would do,
then we're probably not having this conversationand probably not in this situation.
Yeah. Yeah, So that's whatboat she said about him. Now let's
hear what Jack Lyder himself had tosay before making his major league debut With

(06:30):
our Emily Jones, we are witha man of the hour, Jack Lider.
First of all, congratulations, Whatare the last twenty four hours have
been like for you? Thank you? Yeah, it's been a whirlwind,
a lot of emotions, a lotof awesome conversations, and just a lot
of happy, happy thoughts. Howdid you get the news? We were

(06:51):
about to head out on the roadto Sugarland and I texted the skipper,
Doug Davis and in Round Rock theday before we left. I was like,
I'm gonna drive because it's a twoand a half hour drive instead of
take the bus. And he calledme and he was like, actually,
just stopped by the field. There'sjust some stuff moving around, Like stop

(07:12):
by the field and you can driveto sugar Land. I get to the
field the next day and they wereall in the office, the coaches,
and they they said that I'm gonnabe starting in Detroit on Thursday, and
it was just it was a shock, but it was awesome. What it
was the first phone call you mademy dad? Yeah? Yeah, it
was what was his reaction. Imean, we had talked about it.
I had started to, you know, kind of prepare what it would look

(07:34):
like and what it would feel like. But you can't really prepare for those
emotions, So it was it wasemotional. For sure. It's been a
journey for you. It hasn't ithasn't come easily. You've had to work
for it. Does it make itthat much more gratifying? Oh? Yeah,
Yeah, it's it's a really specialfeeling knowing the work that's been put
in. And yesterday was just afull day of kind of just stepping back

(07:56):
and reflecting on that and then kindof using the rest of today to start
to get locked in. Who allwill be here for your debut? A
lot of people, Yeah, myfamily friends. I think I think the
numbers at like thirty people. Soyeah, and then have you kind of,
you know, now that you're here, have you tried to visualize what
what kind of process will you gothrough to get yourself mentally prepared? Yeah,

(08:20):
just like any other start. Ihave a pretty thorough mental and physical
process and routine that that has adaptedover the years and kind of just recently
developed even further. And I feelreally good about it. So the same
way I've prepared for starts in RoundRock and before that, I'm going to
continue to do that. And thenfinally, what was the conversation with coach?

(08:41):
Like it was? I mean,it was, it was. It
was great when I got here, just just a happy feeling kind of just
just looking around in all big leaguestadium and obviously I've been in them before
as a fan and and with mydad when he was playing, but it's
it's a lot different as a asa player. So it's cool, kind
of cool to hear how it allwent down in the behind the scenes.

(09:05):
He was getting ready to drive toSugar Lane and all of a sudden gets
the call that he'll in fact tobe flying to Detroit to make his major
league debut, and he has thirtypeople that went with him, and it'll
be good. After that game itdidn't go quite how he wanted. It'll
be good to have all of hispeople there. Great to be surrounded by
people who love you. Yes,yes, And well he's in the room

(09:26):
now and he's been joined by hismanager who just got bounced. Oh yeah,
hell yeah didn't he yeah? Boachydid? Yeah? Oh wow did
the umpire come to Boach to getyelled at, or did he go all
the way out there? He wasout there that take me. I don't
know how it came down or whatthe issue was, but but it looked

(09:48):
like they were having a somewhat intensebut not really out there conversation, and
the umpire was ready for it tobe over. He kind of folded his
arms, and I guess Boach saidthe man Gordon, he called him a
c S. Yeah, he precededit with you, which is the magic
word? You think Boach still sayswords that we don't say anymore when he's

(10:11):
talking to ups. I would havewouldn't be surprised. Words, Yeah,
like words that used to be ableto say, but you can anymore?
Why not? Hell? All right? Yeah? So Jack Lder made his
major league debut, and then hewas replaced in the third inning by Urine

(10:35):
Yet and then we have jose LaClerk on right now. We'll see if
he can get the job done asa family show shoot or if I'm guessing,
we'll see Kirby Yates again, maybein the night he got to save
yesterday in Detroit, and then theRangers will carry on with this road trip
to Atlanta. So there you go. There's Rangers information today on the sports

(10:58):
desk. I'll take quick buzzer theirgroovy if you got it. So I
saw this kind of cool article. It was just talking about Caitlin Clark and
already the impact that she's having onthe WNBA and specifically the Dallas Wings.
They have an upcoming preseason game againstthe Indiana Fever, and prices for these

(11:20):
tickets because of Kaitlin Clark are allthe way about four hundred dollars right now
to go to this preseason game onMay third to see the Wings and the
Fever play. And along with thisarticle, there's a little graph that ranked
the top paid athletes in DFW bytheir league, and this is average annual

(11:45):
salaries. And I was surprised tosee this. So there is somebody on
the Wings and I butcher her name, Marique Ogenbualle. Did I do it?
Okay? So she's actually at twohundred and forty two thousand dollars at
this point on the Wings, andshe's the highest paid player on the team.
But when you look at the otherleagues, next up is the NHL

(12:09):
Tyler Sagan, the highest played, highest paid player on the Stars at nine
point nine million a year. Andthen I wanted to see if you guys
could do the next three so youcould either work your way down or up
from there. So we have Rangerscandidate, a Mavericks candidate, a Cowboys
candidate, and in what order.Yeah, I could do that, I

(12:31):
think because I was surprised by this. You probably know all this your money
guy, but yeah, my highestplayed, highest paid athlete in DFW based
on average annual salary. How comfortableare you with your Rangers guest, Mike,
because I'm comfortable with it fairly. It's a guy who's not playing.

(12:58):
I think de Gram makes more thanSeeger. Yeah, I think you're right
about that. I hadn't really consideredthat you were going to say, Zigo,
I was, is it Jacob deGromNo, but you're close. Yes,
Oh yeah, Max paid by Iwouldn't think of that because they don't
pay it all. Okay, yeah, So so per year he's at forty

(13:20):
three point three million dollars, justabove Luka Doncic. Yeah, at forty
three So the highest paid athlete inDFW isn't Dak Prescott, isn't Luka Doncich.
Isn't Tyler Sagan, it's Max Scherzer. Yeah, damn straight, it
is. Gosh, what a gig, right, Like he's barely played it,
Yeah, kind of crazy. Baseballis a good sport to play if

(13:43):
you want to make money, butyou do, you can't get good money
until after six years, so youdo have to be good at it for
a long time to get the money. Yeah, to make crazy big money.
Yeah. Luca at forty three milliona year and then Dak Prescott currently
at forty million a years, sothey're all right in there around the same
place. But Max schures are mixedmore than Luca and more than Dak and

(14:07):
more than Dak average annual salaries. One hand, that's surprising. On the
other hand, if I'd have thoughtabout it, I'd have gone okay,
probably some m h. Speaking ofTyler said the Stars, how about you
buzz these guys off here? Yeah, thank you. The Dallas Stars played

(14:30):
last night. It was their finalregular season game, and it was a
home game, and it was anail bier against the Saint Louis Blues,
the Stars winning two to one ina shootout at home. And we now
know that the Dallas Stars are theWestern Conference champions, because they just had
to get one point in this gameto clinch the conference, and they did

(14:54):
that, and they did end upwinning in a shootout as well. Jay
Ottinger the story and this one madetwenty six saves and he is just on
fire right now, and it's soexciting because this is right when the playoffs
are about to begin, and thisis the Jay Ottinger that the Dallas Stars
need if they're going to find successin the postseason, and he is just

(15:15):
playing lights out right now. Hehad a ridiculous save in overtime. It
was an accident, but it wasgreat. I don't think it was an
accident. It was very much ait doesn't matter. We already got out
his stick. Yeah, we wonthe West. I'm not sliding over there.
I'm just playing my stick out andI hit his stick. Well,
I mean it's a wide, dude. The Stars still wanted to win that
game in a shootout or whatever. You know, it's they're still competing at

(15:39):
that point. But yeah, itlooked like a last ditch effort throwing his
stick over there to make the save. But yeah, he's playing really well.
Jason Robertson had the lone goal inthe shootout, and it was just
a fun way for the Stars towrap up the regular season at home in
front of their fans. Groovy youwere there, I was. It was
a great time. Yeah, thisis this is when it's like about to

(16:02):
get real crazy at the American AirlinesCenter. I tweeted last night. I
was like, who can help meget some tickets? Oh man, it's
been to every game for like solong pretty much, and now with the
Fastern Conference win the division, you'reone of us. I'm just yeah,
I'm just a mere hockey fan.I got to tell you, there's something
I've noticed about this Stars team whenI've been watching pretty much every game.

(16:26):
Yeah, the second of every game. I think the reason that they've taken
off and won the West is theirnew replay coach out shots fired. As
my husband, a former video coachfor the Stars who spent fourteen years.
You know, that's coaches crushed. That's a little bit of militia. But

(16:47):
I'm kind of right there with you. Yeah. Yeah, the last guy
really holding him back a little bit. I know it kind of seems like
it fourteen years all he wanted wasto get his name on the Stanley cut
they're going to win the f andCup. Yeah. Hey, my,
it's real weird. It's real weird. I'll take a quick bu to hear
Grooby because this is some kind ofcool news that I threw into the sports

(17:10):
desk because we got word today thatNetflix has announced a new documentary series on
the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. Love itbecause he's all creepy. He liked the
cheerleaders a lot, didn't he fired. Now he can finally get all access
to them. It's what he wasreally trying to go for. It's all

(17:33):
he ever wanted was this show, and he fired for it. Tough break,
Yeah, enjoy the show. Rich. So this docuseries is going to
be following the Cowboys cheerleaders throughout theentire season. Last season, apparently the
Cowboys gave them full access. Imean, I doubt in the locker room

(17:56):
as close as you can get withouta felony. Yeah sure, So behind
the scenes. It's going to bea seven part series that will premiere this
summer, and it's called America's SweetheartsDallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. I'm pretty pumped for
this. There's so many of them. I'm so many cheerleaders. Yeah,
because when I went to the greatplayoff game against Green Bay, the Cowboys

(18:18):
really gave it their all and Iwas so excited to be there. You
notice, because you know field level, sweeten all, there's a group of
cheerleaders right there on that end ofthe stadium in front of you, which
is I don't know, fourteen eighteenwhatever. But there's another one on the
other end of the field, andthen there's another group on the other side
on the other end of the field, and another and the other, like
there's probably eighty of those girls. It's a big squad. Yeah. I

(18:41):
think they have like performance squads andsome that will just do appearances but don't
necessarily cheer on the sidelines. Butit's like obviously cutthroat to become a Dallas
Cowboys cheerleader. And there's been showsdone on that, like Making the Team
or whatever they called it, thirtysix, So I guess it's groups of
eight or nine. Yeah, followthem throughout the whole season. And the

(19:03):
executive producer of the show said, the kind of access in creative freedom we
need to make the kind of workwe want to make is not easy to
come by, especially when dealing withthe brand as large as the Cowboys.
To their infinite credit, the Cowboysoffered unfettered access for the year. Isn't
that really awkward with the rich thingto have anything anyone talking about access to
cheerleaders? Probably, but I hadn'tthought about it yet til you brought it

(19:25):
up. There's just so many ofthese shows that I don't know. But
but yeah, that is a littleawkward. Yeah, because that's all he
really wanted. We had unfettered accessto the cheerleading squad, and my follow
up would be like give me likehe okay, right, he said.
The result is an authentic portrait ofone of the most storied and beloved institutions

(19:45):
we have in American pop culture. And just kind of funny too that the
Cowboys were like, okay, yeah, whenever you want unfettered access, but
they're so paranoid about the team, right, and access to the team and
who's allowed and who can go getpress passes and everything with the cheerleaders,
like whatever you need because it's different. Yeah, this is gonna be great
pr for them. Yeah, that'sa pr thing. Jerry love that.

(20:07):
Yeah, he is so keep aneye on that. Debuting this summer.
Let's check in with Dirk real quick. Oh, oh, guess what day
it is? Guess what day itis? Huh? Anybody? Yeah,
I got you, Dirk. Today'spinata day, you guys. Ever seen
an injury during a pinata? Idon't think so. No, but I
fear it so badly with little kids. I saw one and it was great.
It was so good child. No, it was an adult, thank

(20:30):
god. I thought it was abroken arm, but not quite didn't quite
break it. But yeah, fullswing, blindfolded, missed the pinata,
let go of the stick, stickshand we got it on video from multiple
angles. Is there alcohol involved? No? No, just a bad swing.

(20:52):
Just a bad swing. So justwhen you're doing the pinata, make
sure that what you use to hitthe pinata is not of enough heft hurt
someone if it's let go. That'swhat I think I learned that day.
How do you let go of thestick because you're expecting resistance, because you're
expecting to hit the pinata, andthen when you don't there's nothing there,
you just go whah. Yeah,I can see that. I fear the

(21:14):
pinata. You gotta watch where you'restanding too, because they will run over
you, they will run over you. Today's National Velociraptor Awareness Day. I'm
not sure why we need that,Oh, but it is. Well,
they don't want them to forget aboutthem. You don't like dinosaurs. I
love dinosaurs. I just don't thinkI need to have my head on a

(21:34):
swivel for a velociraptor today. Theonly dinosaur I've ever seen in my life
is a tered actyl, and Ijust I don't think velociraptors are still here.
Wow. Well, maybe it's notabout them being still here. Maybe
we're just not still here. Homageto them, Okay, just be aware
of recognizing their greatness. Okay, okay, I'm probably going to see one

(21:55):
tomorrow because I'm I'm going to thePeru music as a chaperone on a field
trip. So if you guys wantme to take some pictures of the dinosaurs
for you, I will. Areyou not working the moring? No,
I'm just doing that in the morning. Oh okay, I'll be here for
the show. I'm going Wait aminute, why am I missing here?
We have a lot of time, you know, before we come here.

(22:15):
I can chaperone a whole field game. You can. It starts at nine
am. It is quite busy.I'm going to leave a little early.
Don't worry. Today is National DareDay. That they don't want to picture
the dinosaurs, Greevy, that's allI cared about it. I do want
to picture. I want to behere tomorrow. I want to picture that.
Try to offer you a nice gif. I would love a picture of
the dinosaurs. I would too.Okay, all right, I would like

(22:36):
on tomorrow's show for four hours. If you count down your favorite dinosaurs after
doing your research, Okay, I'mgoing to learn a lot tomorrow if your
order has changed. Do you likethe herbivores or do you like the carnivores
probably or the omnivorse. The carnivoresare way too scary, okay. Do

(22:56):
you want the peaceful yes? Okay, it's like a little pet. I
want scary really too. Yeah, big t Rex, guys, No,
that's why I don't like t Rexbecause t Rex was a p word.
Today's t Rex would have only hadarms. What he could have done,
boy, if he would have hadarms, or if he could have roared

(23:17):
instead of making more of a tweetingsound, and if he could have run
instead of just leaning forward and walking. He would have been tough. I
believe the one report from a verydodgy science that the t rex wasn't very
tough. And today's National Animal CrackersDay aka the worst snack ever made,
but ever except raizens, raisins mightbe worse about squash. Squash is great

(23:45):
compared to animal crackers. Great.I like animal crackers. I don't love
them. Okay. They do giveyou like instant dry mouth. Yeah,
you're just eating dry that's what you'reeating. Like, what do you got
there? If I got a handfulof dry put it a little bit of
a tiny bit of flavor. There'snot much flavor, not much to it.
But they're cute. Coming up nextin Jeff's Bucket of Crap, I
