Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, da bean, lie bean, lie be lie.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Oh light the beam, indeed, light it bright as After
missing Monday's episode, we've got a lot of catching up
to do. You are tuned in, as you already know,
to the Sports Cave with biggest Puma broadcasting live here
on the north side, the greater north side of San Antonio.
Not to be too specific, so LG doesn't get freaked out,
(00:34):
I am your host, Sam Freeze, back in the room
after all of us missed Monday. We'll talk about that
here in a minute. We have a I have a
very good explanation. Well, I'll let you be the judge
of whether it's good or not. That's scoffing. That scoffing
you hear from across the table is of course the
cap back with me.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Hey amen, I'm out of breath over there. That game
was intense.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah, we just uh we just were recording this uh literal.
LG's yelling in the other room three minutes and we're like, well,
there's there's three minutes left in stoppage time.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
We can make it.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
We should be fine. And then LG yel's one minute
and then there's thirty seconds left in stoppage time, and
then we've got some American players trying to time waste.
So we were literally putting the headphones on as LG
was giving us the ten second countdown. Speaking of countdowns,
uh oh, we've got to do a new countdown because
(01:29):
our last one was, you know, forty days until the
NBA Draft. Oh ok well, obviously, now the NBA Draft
has coming past, all right, bring it on. How about
nineteen days oh till your Dallas Cowboys report to ox nerd.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Oh the Hall of Fame Game.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
July twenty first Cowboys report to training Canada wound in California.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
We've gotta win more than two playoff games get in
the Hall of Fame game in the last two decades.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Dude, they were in it like three years ago.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
But you gotta win the game.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Oh okay, yeah, I gotta win. Well, okay, if the
Cowboys aren't enough to entice you to win the game,
how about I tell you it is National Wildland Firefighter,
though established in twenty twenty two, it's also Firefighters Wildland
Firefighter Week of Rememberance started June thirtieth through July sixth,
(02:24):
or as as us who really remember our wildland firefighters
call it n w FFD WFT what National Wildland Firefighter Day?
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Okay, alright, so happy.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
NWFFD to all those that celebrate. If I can hear
the drops, that means I'm pretty confident we have a
stable connection with LG.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
How are we doing in the other room, LG, we
are doing just fine.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
This is the stress level. The low that looks has
the stress level lowers. You were yelling three minutes, one minute,
thirty seconds at us. Yeah, fine, okay, it's good. I
could tell we were I could tell we were pushing
the limits of LG's anxiety.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
You can tell how much he cares about the game
he was. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, when when I walked in, he was watching what
were he was much of the Cubbies, cubs and whatever
was on d Yeah, so I hijacked the TV immediately
and told him this is July fourth week. We were
supporting our great patriots like Diego Luna.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
The most American of all of us, LG.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
While we have a good connection, is in Diego Luna
an actor.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
I think it's both. Yeah, from and Or.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Is the star of and Or, isn't he?
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah, he's also the star of the Gold Cup. Right now,
for the US men's national team, as he had two
goals earlier tonight. LG. While we have a good connection,
tell the good people how they can help support and
UH promote this whole operation.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
You can help support us by going to buy me
a coffee, dot com slash sports Cave live and leaving
a tip. I appreciate all the people who have done so. Already,
we're on our way to some new microphones. You know,
we're maybe about.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
One one hundredth of the way there, but we're on
our way.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Still count still count, Yeah, I will, I will say
I've found us a sweet sweet deal for our studio
fifty five inch TV. Oh okay, yeah, my old neighborhood.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Yeah, I had to give up the studio TV and
my brother gave that to me a few years ago
and his TV just went out, so he came and
reclaimed it.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
That's that's it? Can we still call that?
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Is that? Is it? PC? Or is it?
Speaker 2 (04:41):
I guess Trump's president? Now we can say giving yeah, yeah,
he's aboriginal. He's an aboriginal reclaimer. I think we can
get away with that.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Well.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
You can also help us out by excuse me, you
can also help us out by hitting that subscribe button
because we're.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Getting we're nearing on four hundred and we need to
hit five hundred pretty soon.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yeah, Saul, we uh we picked up a good handful
after our NBA Draft of Palooza.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yeah, you're moving on up pretty pretty fast.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
We're getting there. Like I said, we're sitting about Last
time I looked, we're sitting about ten short of four hundred.
But we really need to get to five hundred.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
And I will.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Continue to re emphasize it's absolutely free. It costs you nothing.
If you have a YouTube account, just go to at
sports cave Live. Give us a follow there, give us
a subscriber. Have you noticed if you don't have an
account though, it's absolutely free, So just get a YouTube
account with your Gmail.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Just give us.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
If we're the only thing you subscribe to, please yes.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
And there's a lot of bartenders out there that's the
only thing they subscribe to.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
But oh, that's even We have spectacular We have made the.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
YouTube has made it easier. We are the first sports
Cave Live. Oh he jumped up to the top before us,
and now we've gone one.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Well, let's hope that one before us doesn't have any
trademarks I guess they're not with the biggest puma, so
that's that's what we're fine. This is like the Vanilla
Ice queen situation, like no, no, no, they did don
dundunda da dundn I did don dundundund.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
You hear the pause there.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Yeah, they don't have a biggest puma, So I think
we're fine. Yeah, no, that's ah. The roommate will be
happy to know because she's been pushing me to try
to focus more on our make things more se o friendly.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
And try to be more online friendly. Man.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Yeah, get picked up by more of the algorithm. So
it's it's good to know that at least some of
this is paying off, you know, since you brought that up,
that is a that is something to celebrate. I should
also mention as we start what is this month for
we're now we did April May Jun. Yeah, starting the
fourth month here June's numbers. We're our best month yet. Ay,
(07:09):
So that shows that we are as the as the
consultants in the industry like to call it. We've got
some traction, some traction. We've got some traction, and now
we need to focus on and rolling that into momentum.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Yeah, we got some friction we need. We got a
lot of friction, you know, a lot of friction. Got
to bring that heat, gotta just you know, I don't
know where I'm going from here.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
That's spectacular as the That's where we rely on you
listeners to help us get that momentum rolling as we
now officially have traction help us get through July. Because
let's do some housekeeping here before we jump into have
we got a weekend recap since we missed Monday, we
got some weekend sports with CAP of course the Yankee
(07:54):
Minute main segment. This might, barring any crazy trade, this
might be the last night we're talking NBA in the
main segment for a few months. And then of course
we'll close out with the Lightning Round, including a certain
Netflix trailer that dropped.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Oh that we is this squirmy little fishy thing.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Well, it involves the newest countdown. We're nineteen days till
Cowboys Report to ox Ner.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Oh my god, And that's on Netflix now.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Well they're doing it's the Cowboys documentary they have rolling out.
The Jerry Jones approved and I wasn't excited for it.
We'll talk about it to close the show. I wasn't excited,
but I'm slightly you got I'm like, I'm not six
to midnight. I'd say it's more like it's more like
six to eight.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
It's like kind of it starts.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
It's starting enough, but we'll talk about that as we
close out. Such, let's let's do you got your damn right, Jay,
Let's do some housekeeping here. So we talked about, uh,
we've we've, you know, as we've been going through the
first three months here, we've talked about how this is
(09:05):
a you know, like a soft opening of a restaurant,
and we're we've we've had our friends and family day,
We've had our uh you know, select public, small dining
room night to try to see how things were gonna flow.
And now that the roommate is officially officially done with
(09:28):
grad school, which also means she's out of excuses, but
she is happy, more than happy and excited. Dog I
I throw her under the bus. It's really been how
many a thousand.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Excuse?
Speaker 2 (09:42):
I'm upset. It's I no longer have it in my arsenal.
I can't say like, oh man, I'm sorry, y'all. Stuff's
got a stuff's got a grad school paper. She's got
a right. We're not gonna be able to go to
Sunday Fun Day at the bar and get waste.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
No, I see where you're going with it. I was
going more of a pizza type since I can.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
See where you are too, So that's why it was
a slight It was a slight shift. Yeah, we're ready
to announce. Starting next week, you can expect to get
Monday Nights Live, Wednesday Nights Live like we have been doing,
and then a third episode Friday featuring the roommate, which
(10:22):
also means it will feature the return of Who Won
the Internet? So if you missed any of that in
the first iteration, it'll be fun. It's always I always
enjoy when you know her and I. I think we
spend more time together than most couples to begin with,
because we're pretty I mean, we're both half the time
(10:43):
you can put up with each other. Yeah, we're chill
enough to exactly, We're chill enough to coexist in the
same room more than that, which is not.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
I wasn't that ninetieth percentile where it's like, hey, when
I go away for a while and then come back,
we never been closer.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
That's not there's again and a gang to everything. So
it's always interesting to me specifically to see, you know,
what crosses her timeline versus what crosses mine, because you know,
right now, my timeline is all you know, NBA free agency, uh,
NFL off season stuff, politics of course, uh and and
(11:22):
a lot of uh you know, Diddy trial content, So
I'm curious hers is usually hers is usually quite quite
different from mine, which is why Who Won the Internet
is fun. We both bring uh two topics each and
then we debate it a Mary, I'm just saying, well,
there's uh until until Gary Glitter gets out. I think
(11:44):
they're all on hold. Uh but yeah, no, who Who
Won the Internet? Returning Friday super excited? We uh uh
have she has her own mic that we are picking
up tomorrow like we're actually there has been and that
didn't come from just so y'all all that didn't come
from these funds.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
That was I don't with these funds, not yet.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
No I made that was. I made her make an
up upfront investment. If she wanted to do the segment,
you gotta buy a microphone. So all jokes aside, we
will be back starting Friday with Who Won the Internet,
and then next week Monday, Wednesday and Friday as we
gear up for the football season coming in the fall.
(12:26):
So help us get through July.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Yeah, yeah, we uh, you got a lot of things planned.
I'm excited to get into the divisional you know who's
gonna win the divisions? Who do I think is good?
And then they just totally be wrong then by the
end of the year.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Good, good reminder. As part of that, starting Monday, we're
gonna start our NFL division pretty nice nice, So that
will That's why I say the main segment I think
is about to just become our NFL divisional previews through
July as we gear up Teaday exactly. And of course
if Len gets traded, that throws the run sheet out
(13:02):
the window and we start all over.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
But that news is gonna get broken on like the
opening day of football.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Yeah, just to try just Lebron trying to steal the spotlight. Yeah,
that wouldn't. We're going to talk a little Lebron because
some interesting, uh interesting media plays he's been attempting this week.
But as I said, we got to start with a
little weekend recap since we missed Monday, and what time
(13:28):
was it when I texted y'all on Monday and said, yeah,
we're we're not going to be able to do a show.
That was about Yeah, that was That was about the
point I realized that I was in deeper trouble than
I initially realized. So peel back the curtain quite a
bit here. The roommate was in Lubbock. She left for
(13:50):
Lubbock Friday morning and didn't get back till Tuesday, Tuesday night,
last night. Yeah, and so you know, she took the car.
I still will have my car, you know, the boss.
And so I'm thinking, buddy, just wait, I'm thinking, oh,
this will be fine, this will be great. Like I
(14:12):
just watch, haven't driven my car in a while, and
you know, I know that there were a couple I've
got all the parts. I just haven't done it yet.
There's a you know, I got to change some injectors.
But that's nothing big. I can do this, This isn't
this won't be an issue. So Saturday morning, with the
assistance of my neighbor from across the street, Jose who
(14:34):
right now looks like he's got a used car lot
going in his front yard.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
So it was always a good sign.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
It's a great sign it's a great sign. Temporary this
will get done fast. Yeah, temporary income never never catches
up to you. No, all I needed was someone basically
like you know, like when you used to work with
your dad on cards, like just hold the light or
just hold the part, or just you know, hand me
something when I needed as I'm all hunkered.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
You didn't take the reins.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Again, I thought I thought I was the dad in
this scenario. I thought I was the one that actually
knew what they were doing.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
I think you made a mistake.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Well, judging by the fact that I texted y'all at
noon on Monday saying, yeah, it's it's not gonna happen.
So I tore it apart Saturday.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Quickly realized there was more to be done than initially thought.
But I still pride wouldn't let me contact.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
What part were you on?
Speaker 2 (15:33):
So it's I've got I've got to replace some injectors.
That's the main thing. Yeah, yeah, that's the main thing.
But once I got in there, I realized, like I might.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
I might have a leaking valve. Oh yeah, they replaced
the gasket exactly. I gotta take that's the rubber thing
around around the ceil, it creates the seal.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah, I think I've got I gotta I've got a leak.
Ah look looks like a leaking gasket, which I didn't
have that. So then I'm scrambling to try to find that.
Long story short, I still thought at the end of
day Saturday, when we called it a night, I still
thought I would get it put together on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
We're on Saturdays. Now, we're on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Now we're moving into Sunday. So Sunday starts.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Got Oh, I got the gasket. Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Still So now I'm feeling like I have all the parts.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Then, long, long story short, the more I took off
of the thing to fix what I needed to, the
more I realized there's bigger issues here at play. And
granted you asked me, I hadn't drove the thing for
about six months. Yeah, And so even all day Sunday,
(16:48):
I kind of started feeling like, Okay, I might you know,
I might be in a little bit of trouble here.
There might there might be It's like a it's like
a you know, like a fisherman on a boat in
the gulf where you can see a storm moving through
and you're like, oh no, that's going that's going west
and that's going past me. Like I'll be fine, And
then like thirty minutes later you're like, yeah, I might
be in a bit of trouble. It's coming right out.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
I was out on my boat during COVID, you know,
great COVID bye of course, you know, and now.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
We have you bought a boat during COVID. That's it was.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
It was a fun summer. Man. It broke down as
a storm's coming with extreme lightning, and we're like three
of us stuck out there, way far away from where
we where we like the ramp was, and I was
just like.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
I love knowing. I love having a friend with a boat.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
We'll see. My friend's a mechanic.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
I wouldn't see.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
So it was goods. I was like, anything goes wrong,
you know, fix it. But like he's on the water,
he's in the back. He's like, I gotta get underneath
this thing. And I'm like, you guys, scoopy gear.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it's like putting a car on
the lift, Like you got to have a boat up
to work on.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Stuff was coming in.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Yeah, you're too late for that. So Sunday I still
wasn't ready to swallow my pride and fully give up,
so I had Jose back over again. And yeah, we
were watching a few YouTube videos to try to see
make sure before I took something off if I could
actually do it. So I took more stuff off. Come
(18:25):
Monday morning, have your cars in the lot, and half
of it's in my living room right now because I couldn't.
I didn't want to leave it outside. I just put
the I just shut the hood, so knowing, I mean,
you can't steal it now at least, so I'm not
worried about that unless you have a car.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Who's going to steal car parts in your front yard?
And I forget I live on the north side, but I'm.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Just saying, uh, we'll talk about it in the lightning round.
There's been some murdering on the north side.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Got that.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
I'm kind of kind of happy where I'm at, to
be honest. No, So Sunday I make one more, you know,
honest run at it. Realize, yeah, they were I'm not
going to be able to do this. So Monday woke
up like spend about two hours physically swallowing my pride
before I called my brother in law. Steph's the roommate's
(19:21):
brother who is well. He came and he came and
put it back together, but then told me, like, you
might want to take it to a shop because there's
so now it's it's in. Uh, it's a starting critical
starting next week because it's fourth of July weekend. So
I didn't want to, you know, load up, take it
(19:41):
to a shop and then it just sit there because
they're not working this weekend because of the holiday. So
I'm taking it started next week.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Are you comfortable telling the listeners what kind of car
it is? Uh?
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Yeah, I think you know. Most of them that listened before,
you know, saw video of it even a few times.
It's a Boss three oh two Mustang Musting.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Yeah, nineteen ninety.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
No, twenty twelve, twenty twelve, but it's getting dude twenty.
It turns out twenty twelve is thirteen years ago.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Yeah, like it feels it's not bad. I thought it
wasn't like the early two thousands.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
No, the one I had before was an five and uh,
to be honest, it was better put together than than
this one is. But I think it also might be
I drive this one quite a bit harder, so had
the brother in law come over Monday, and once he
got there and kind of was walking me through some stuff.
That was the point I texted y'all and said, yeah,
(20:39):
we're gonna have it. We're not We're not doing a
Monday show.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
It's good because I've been battling some walking pneumonia. Man,
just wheezing, like, why are you telling me this now?
It does it's not contagious, man, And I'm on animal
and I'm on, yeah, pneumonia is not contagiou. You have
to get sick and then your your lungs filled with
(21:03):
fluid and you can't breathe and therefore.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
But is there not an initial sickness that yeah, there's
a national viral.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
But that was like, man, I've had this for like
three weeks.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Okay, Oh this was what you were battling when you missed.
Oh okay, okay, it's the.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Same thing man. Well I went on a I went
on a quote from Allergies. The snot was never green, dude.
It's not taking your turn, it's not buying you a beer.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
That's a great sick reference.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Uh yeah that is as long as it was clear.
I'm fine, Yes, okay, all right, all right, yeah, so maybe, yeah,
there's there's the confidence I appreciate. So in between tearing
my car apart, uh obviously with the roommate in Lubbock,
I had five I can't remember the last time that
(21:53):
either her I were on a you know, five day
trip away, like it's been a while, Like when she
goes on work trip. Yeah, work trips are usually like
two three days at the most, you know, a Monday
through Thursday.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
But you don't even have to get unpacked. You don't.
You don't use the drawer and the.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
In and out right back into the supercase.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Two pairs of two shirts to too.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Yeah, save some space, baby No. I spent most of
the time without her, watched watched a lot of the
Glastonbury Either you all familiar with Glastonbury. I might be
because he's a global soul how about now, okay, LG.
(22:49):
Glastonbury is the giant music festival in England. It's there,
It's they're like, yeah, no, So I was watching a
lot of had some controversy.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
I think I think I saw I think I saw
some stuff like the I like the Drone. I think
I saw like the drone, the Drone Show. Yeah, yeah,
like I like the performances, but like, you know, the
I don't take you as a music festival guy to
begin with. Yeah, that's well, take that and loop it
for about thirty more minutes, and and.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
That and that set by Foretet was amazing. It was
he was great. He played an eleven minute mix of Opus.
It was beautiful. It was spectacular for Tet legend living legend. Uh. So,
I watched a lot of Glastonbury coverage, watched a fell down,
a lot of a random YouTube wormholes. Have y'all seen
(23:42):
the videos where it's like stick figures explaining stuff and
there's like there's like eight eight different topics and it's
all stick figures.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
And it looks like old.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Uh what's a homestar runner? It looks like old like
early animation or like the end of the world, like
like the late time with television. Yeah, exactly. So it
was like one of them I watched was it was
a two part video. It was how every Dictator Rose
to Power. I was curious on that one. That one
was good. It was pretty interesting.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Someone watched that after watching his quadbox.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Okay, so Saturday, it was either Saturday or no. It
was Sunday. Sunday, I had an insanely good quad box going.
I had we had ones X Games thirtieth Anniversary X
Games in Salt Lake City, first triple backflip ever landed
in competition. Australian Ryan Williams, the Nitro Circus kid, landed
(24:41):
that BMX on dirt triple backflip.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Oh oh okay, I was about to say. I was like,
I've seen that on nights when they do the big jump.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Right, but so he's done it a few times at
Nitro Circus events, but had never done it in a competition.
A guy or the giant half of the Giant Mega
ramp they have, I.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
Think, and they took out the fact that you could
lose your life when it's just hard packed dirt. Yeah,
well putting that little rubber thing down.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
There were a few dudes that ate dirt pretty hard
in that in that BMX Best Trick Final. But had
the quad box of X Games going, had the Gold
Cup going, had the golf going, which turned out to
be pretty fun five hole playoff. Yeah, and then of
course I had my news on the fourth quads. I had, Hey,
(25:29):
there's a light of the dude. We had we had
both sides of both houses, the House and the Senate,
debating past midnight all weekend, all night. It was a
it was a c span wet dream over here, which
was great because the roommate was out of town, so
she would text me at like one am, she like,
what are you doing. It's like, I'm watching the Senate
(25:50):
debate the budget bills.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
So I'll tell you. I tried to put on the
quad box of News to see the old Puma experience,
and I found out that the who puts me to
sleep pretty good at night. So whenever I wake up
during the middle of the night, you know, taking the
old man pee, like you know, I'll just pop on
some of that news and it puts me right back
(26:12):
to sleep. Man.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Yeah, I uh so I used to fall asleep to it.
Oh my god. I was trying to figure out what
the hell that was. I used to leave the news
on when I would uh, when we would go to sleep,
or when we would leave the house and our old uh,
our old how long is this drop?
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Good God?
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Is this It's like, uh, it's like Austin Powers when
he's being defrosted. Good Lord. No. When I used to
leave the news on for our old pug leroy. But
the roommate would literally tell me, like, you're depressing the
ship out of this dog, like I can see it
when we come home. He's just so sad about the
(27:00):
state of the world right now years a couple of months,
just from watching a quad box of news by himself
every time we would leave the house or fall asleep. Yeah,
it's something else unfortunate. And this usually seems to happen
as soon as Steph left the house. Literally every triple
(27:22):
A battery under our roof died. So I was doing
the old like it was. It was like I was
a kid again and I was the channel changer. I
was having to walk over. I could the the Roku
remote uses double A, so I was fine that.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
When did the triple A take over the double A?
Speaker 2 (27:39):
So it's the triple A is for all of like
my receiver, like the you know, all the sound stuff.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
We got remotes.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Yeah, yeah, we're all familiar with it. But what what
I thought they were all still double A. I didn't
realize it switched. Yeah. See, I didn't realize I need
more triple as than double as. Nowadays, I've got twenty
good double a's in the house. That's that's for your
gaming remote, right, didn't realize didn't realize I had zero
Triple A available.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
So I had a kid.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
The struggle was real the kids.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
I know where the Double A's went, but the Triple
A's was that was for us, you know. But I'm like,
how we down a full pack of Double A's again,
I'm like, You're gonna have to start buying these yourself.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
This might be one of the dumbest things I've ever said,
But I didn't realize how expensive batteries were either, Like
it's not good because you.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Got stock up on on the holiday deals like Amazon,
smart Man, just load up to a forty eight pack.
So I got I got so lazy and desperate. I
almost like favor delivered some Triple A batteries to the house.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Because remember my car was torn apart. So I can't
just go get batteries. You got to get.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
Yourself some quality rechargeables.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
So we have those. I hear we have those.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
We have those, LG That's what we used. The Double A's.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
They're all chargeable.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Do not go to yes, they do.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
The better get yourself the Panasonic any loops or the Ikea.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Oh no, I can't.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
The like Ikeas are a duplicate of the Panasonics.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
So it's like the it's like the Sam's clubs selling.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
Yeah, it's like the Kirkland Joggers or like Lululemon suing
Kirkland right now because they're copying their joggers and their pants.
I thought those were always like pre I thought I
thought it was too but apparently this this is just
like breaking news a couple of days ago.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Breaking I'm serious.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
They're suing Costco because Costco has been duplicating their jackets, joggers,
and men's pants.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Men men's pants.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
Yeah, the men's Uh was that like.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
The crotch region.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
No, they're they're they're starting to make but no, there's no.
They're starting to make like loose fitting like workout. They
look like little like soccer short like tech.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
They call them tech pants.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Oh so they got like the type and then the
basketball sports over some I've seen those wearing it.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Not like that at all, but let's go with some.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
They Uh, get yourself some rechargeables. That's all I can say.
Quality rechargeables are worth the money.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
I need to get you some rechargeables.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Yeah, that'll be what the chat GP tizzle.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Especially for remote control. Say the whole jar of rechargeables
don't listen?
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Yeah it, uh I did. I'm gonna have to be
on the lookout for some rechargeable Triple a's because we
all of our Double a's are rechargeable, and they weren't fine,
but triple A is a different story. The possibly the
worst decision I made all weekend was not tearing my
car apart. It was so I mentioned that triple backflip
(30:59):
at the X Games. I might have gotten a little motivated.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Oh you brought up, brought out the old BMX.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Buddy, Oh buddy, I busted out my twenty four inchs
Harrow and took it to the I've got a bike
shop in my neighborhood now, because of course the East
side's gentrifying. We have a bike shop now in a
retro video game shop all in one. Great dudes. They
were nice.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Actually I know that shop.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Yeah, it's a good spot right next to the tattoo
spot over there. So took the bike down there, got
them to give it a little you know, a little
like refresh. What do you call it, like a tune
a tune up?
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Yeah, a little greasy.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Yeah, you just kind of, you know, get some grease.
And because it was making a little noise. It hadn't
been ridden in about seven eight years or so, it's
been a while, but it was all still perfectly fine. Uh.
So I took it down there, got it aired up.
It's something else, uh because because of course gentrification, something
(32:02):
else that's new to the neighborhood. We have a really
badass skate park. Oh my god, So buddy, give us
what we want to hear. Let's just say one, I'm
way more out of shape than I realized.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
You're sounding like me walking to like do my clothes.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Also combined with that was after I dropped in one
time and just rode the pool without doing anything, and
then I got I was like, oh my god, you
have to pedal. So that's the thing I forgot, Like
and this is going to be really stupid, but I
forgot how much it takes out of me pumping on
that little because I mean, it's it's not a twenty inch,
(32:45):
it's not a tiny BMX bike. It's a twenty four inch.
It's more so it fits me better, but it's.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
Still your knees aren't up to your chest.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Not quite as bad. No, but h took it to
the skate park for the first time, didn't eat shit,
which I didn't push myself here. I didn't push myself
because I was extreme, because I also thought, like if
I if I fall and break my wrist right now,
roommates in Lubbock, my parents are in North Texas, Like,
I'm calling one of you two to come like try, Like,
(33:17):
I'm not taking an ambulance to the hospital because I'm
not paying for that.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Go to a hospital.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
We just pop it right back. See, that's why I
would have called you Just bring the duct tape and
uh and heavy painkillers and we'd be fine.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
So I didn't push it too bad, but I was dude,
I woke up I did that yesterday, and I woke
up this morning not sure like there was there was
a ten percent chance I was gonna text you all
at noon again and be like I can't. I just
I'm not out of the house to the thighs.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
Out of the poop like bending down taking a poop,
That's fine, it's the bending.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
The getting down wasn't bad. Standing up after being down
for amount of time to take care of business.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
Every time it was like when I start working out again,
it's like leg day. It's like, oh my god, dude,
like I can't even get onto the pot.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
See and luckily, I mean obviously you see like these
aren't yeah, these aren't doing these are doing nothing but
the legs and wrestling video, Yeah exactly, we've seen that evidence.
The legs are surprisingly and still in decent shape. So uh,
I was soure, but still I'm playing injured, but we're
(34:36):
we're in Yeah. Now, besides that, I survived on hb
ready meals and a bunch of leftover saltwater taffy from
our last trip to poor Day. I was just scratched.
It kind of felt good because like one boys want
some taffy.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
I want to come and help me work on my car.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
I made some old school college ramen like at two
point thirty in the morning, like I was living in
the dorm again. So wasn't all It wasn't all terrible.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
Hey roumin last night? Man, what is this? This is?
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Like?
Speaker 3 (35:05):
I was like, man, that's gonna help.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
My well, yeah, the broth.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
You're sick.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Everyone knows broth cures everything, no matter what the sickness is.
But now short of that, I am happy to have
the roommate back, especially now that she is committed to
doing Friday episodes starting this Friday. How about y'all? What
uh what do we got from the weekend? Check? Weekend?
Week Cup?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Weekend Man did a little bit of UFC watching, and
of course watched the Gold Cup.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Was it UFC big fight, medium fight.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
Or it was a semi big It wasn't the biggest fight.
It's not a super fight, but it was a big fight.
We had Charles Olavera going against the Georginian. Is that
how you say a person from Georgia Georginian Georginian, Georginian home.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Of Nicolas Skittishphelia.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yeah, he just showed how much of a badass he in.
He just won two belt, he won a second belt
in a different vision, and he put he put Oliver
to sleep man, and then he called out old Patty Pimbleton,
Oh the old.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Patty, Patty the Blinder's name nothing, Patty the batty, you know,
oh god, and leading in yeah he uh, he called
out Patty Baggy.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
So that's going to be a super fight right there,
because they really don't like each other.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
We're actually gonna hit it.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Uh oh yeah, we're gonna get it. Uh. They they fight,
they're the youngines, the old ones run. So that's we
watched some of that, and then of course we're walking
into the Yankees minute, so excited. Right now. They just
hit a home run off of us. We were coming back,
(36:49):
we were down oh wait seven, it was seven eight.
We had two on and we gave up a double play.
And now they just hit another home run to be
two runs up on us. But we still can make it.
We can still make it because we do not want
to get swept by Toronto. They are coming back. They're
going to take our first place spot.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Tonto brought behind it. You'd be quiet during my sorry sorry.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
You know, mister non Yankee fan. But we Judge. She's
still he's coming out of his slump. But we had Goldie, Goldie.
He was up there with Judge at a three p fifty.
He is down under three.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
I'm about to add another minute. But we don't really
have much to talk about because we've been losing, winning
saying five hundred. We can't get to the All Star
breakfast enough. Max Free just gave up. Not his worst
game of the season. But this second worst game today
and hopefully we can pull win and I'll be watching
it and you'll hear me screaming.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Throw was something we well, you talk about the Yankees struggling.
At least it's not as bad as the Mets here lately.
What are they three and thirteen in their last after
being after starting the year so good? Now, I teased you.
I mentioned as much as uh, you talk about your
boy Aaron Judge.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
Oh there's much Joe watch. Should I ever talk about
Aaron Judge, the reigning MVP, who had one of the
best starts ever ever to start the MLB in one
hundred and thirty years. Not he had the best start.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
In not every statistic, not now, but it was the beginning, in.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
The beginning of the year five hundred. No, I'm talking
the first two months.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
He didn't bat five hundred in the first month he
was it was over four hundred.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
He was over four hundred. He literally was the best
offensive baseball player ever to do it for the first
two months. I can't say anything else. That's that's those
are facts. The numbers don't lie well. And here comes
your outrageous thoughts on who he's behind an MLP MVP.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Will I think the I think overall you're still going
to get I think you're still going to get Aaron
Judge probably get more votes than who I'm gonna suggest
off of statistics, yes, yeah, off of overall statistics, because
you know, as much as I am pushing or not pushing,
(39:33):
but promoting the Cal Rawley MVP.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
Amazing catcher, that's my position.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
Man, Like, he's only hitting two seventy two, but the
thirty three home runs. The only people that have hit
more run home runs than him in a season before July.
You're talking like Bonds, Griffy, I think Sosa.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Yeah. It was steroids, Yeah, all the steroids, gouts, Yeah,
all the steroids which which he actually was on pase
he I think he beat some of them. But he
only has three more home runs than Judge, and I
believe we're gonna get one from Judge this game.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
Do you? Uh? I mean it's not that it really matters,
but thirty three home runs from a catcher versus thirty
three home runs from an outfielder.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
He had twenty five home runs.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
All That's why I said you might.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
That's why I said pissed tests them every day.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Look at the look at the company that's around him
on those most home runs before July and.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
A Seattle no one knows what they're doing up in
Seattle now.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
And they they continue like every team in the Al West,
I'm gonna hold court. Seattle continues to fall further and
further behind the Astros. The Astros are so damn good.
It's so frustrating how.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
Even they keep winning.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
They just keep winning.
Speaker 3 (40:55):
Yeah, keep winning.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Just good baseball. And it's I mean weak divisions. Well, yeah,
I don't think I stick by my word. I mean
you have the by my story.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
You have the.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
Mariners who should have won the division last year. You
have the Rangers who won the World Series two years ago.
I mean you're saying the Guardians and the Twins are
tougher competition than the Mariners and Rangers in that division
over the last three years.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
Yeah, the Guardians are always up there, like Ramirez is
always a Hall of Fame, like he's going to be.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
So if they made a World Series appearance in the
last two.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
Years, no, because they had to go through Houston and
the Yankees.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Oh funny. One team in that division that you said
was so bad went through Houston to get to a
World Series. I just think you're discrediting the AL West.
I mean, especially when you look at your Al East
right now.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
It's not like the Oriels that your Als Central.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Now the Central is is Tigers, Guardians.
Speaker 3 (41:59):
It's so weird.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
Rangers and Astros are the only teams that are in
Central Division that are in the AL West. And it
used to when it was only the Rangers. It really
drove me crazy because it was such a disadvantage to
have one team two time zones away from the rest
of the division. Now, as much as I joke about it,
I'm I'm about ready to declare the Rangers sellers. I mean,
(42:24):
two games under five hundred, they're ten games back of
the Astros. Mature the problem I keep coming back to
Valdi don't care the d Grom One's interesting because I
would I would be much more interested in trading de
Gram than Uvaldi because du Grom all of a sudden,
(42:46):
you know, six months ago, you could make an argument
that the du Grom contract was an absolute albatross and
a terrible signing, until all of a sudden, he's back
to being unhittable. De Grom, who's carrying no hit or
into the seventh inning just about every start. Yeah, obviously
hyperbolic there, But if you're talking about the return potential
(43:11):
of anybody that the Rangers could move, I think they
have a serious question about de Grom. Like, you've seen
him healthy for four months now to start the year.
Do you put a lot of faith that that's going
to continue for the next eighteen months through the rest
of this deal for a whole nother season.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
No, we just need him to do it this season,
then we get Garrett.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
But I'm talking about from the Rangers' perspective of what
like if you're talking the trade off of again, what
you can get back in a deal versus the value
of keeping him.
Speaker 3 (43:43):
Yeah, and the fact that if you sold them to
the Yankees and or someone that's in it, like they
get instant value this year, and they also have value
next year because they're obviously contenders.
Speaker 2 (43:55):
Yeah, and de Grom under that under contract for that
one more year. I I think it's going to take.
The Rangers are in such a position of still trying
to be a win now team, I think it's gonna
take a whole lot to try to pry either one
of those top. I think the more likely name is
like a Tyler Mallley. But now he's on the because
we hit the halfway mark. He's got shoulder fatigue, which
(44:18):
you never want to see on an injury list, especially
with a guy that's battled shoulder injuries. But he would
have been the one that I thought if they were
going to try to balance that line. You called it
judge to run home run. I called it. I'm sorry,
I called it. Are we doing a Are we doing
a Yankees postgame show? Are we doing a Yankees watch along?
(44:41):
We're Are we doing We're tied? Oh you're not even
You're not even winning. You're celebrating tie. You're like a
Doley Scarcia when he hit the home run in extra
innings the other day, like, hey, I won the.
Speaker 3 (44:51):
Champions Like dude, I just called it literally two months ago.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
Congratulations. He's only hit thirty.
Speaker 3 (44:58):
Four of them thirty one.
Speaker 2 (44:59):
Oh okay, that's right, because cal Rawley thirty four, the
next thirty hits one.
Speaker 3 (45:05):
Thirty four, thirty next time. But that was a big one.
That was a big one.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Anyway, go ahead, Uh, it's it's a big one. On June.
On July second, in baseball where there's still eighty games
le division. We're at the halfway point.
Speaker 3 (45:19):
It's a big one, there is.
Speaker 2 (45:20):
There's no such thing as a big one right now.
The Rangers.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
Who wants to talk golf?
Speaker 2 (45:25):
When's the last time the Yankees played in four straight
extra inning games?
Speaker 3 (45:31):
I mean, who knows, dude.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
That was the pain of watching the Rangers this weekend.
They had every game against the Mariners went to extra innings,
all three of those, and then the first game against
the Orioles in this current series went to extrame.
Speaker 3 (45:46):
Rangers? Is paying all y'all need hitting y'all just if
y'all get a run and a half more game? What
was the record?
Speaker 2 (45:54):
It's they're they're like twenty eight and four when they
score three runs or more.
Speaker 3 (45:59):
Yeah, it's three runs.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
The league average is four and a half. Like it's insane. Yeah,
it's three three and three quarters, right, like three point seven,
three point eight something like that thing.
Speaker 3 (46:09):
It's just above three and a half.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Yeah, it's uh so, I mean, just be league average
and your ten games over five hundred?
Speaker 3 (46:17):
Yeah, how's how the manager coming there? Can y'all just
be average? Just just just be average greatness?
Speaker 2 (46:25):
I'm not one to tell Bruce Bochie the Hall of
Famer how to do his job. But maybe just asking
for average that's a tall drink of water, right, might
be able to get things done.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
Helg.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
How about you, I know, uh no, you had a
little bit of trouble this weekend. Trouble trouble. Yeah, it
sounds like it sounds like a massive investment is already
circling the drain.
Speaker 3 (46:52):
Sounds like it sounds like artificial intelligence has.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
Making it a little, making it, exaggerating it a little.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
But yeah, yeah, you.
Speaker 1 (47:02):
Having some minor maintenance.
Speaker 2 (47:03):
Well, then explain to me. Why, Explain to me why
whenever I pull up to your house tonight, Uh I
see a different Tesla in the driveway, Not the brand
new one that should have no issues that you just
purchased like a week ago.
Speaker 1 (47:22):
It's getting a new touch screen installed.
Speaker 3 (47:25):
It's like a main part of the tesla.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
Dude, when he was showing the main it's like how
you do your blinkers since you let it dry for you,
like you need.
Speaker 3 (47:37):
That touch screen, which scares me.
Speaker 1 (47:41):
It just can't touch the way it should.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
And AI is sitting there going crazy on you with
the car. It's going to run over some poor kid,
the children. What about the children?
Speaker 1 (47:53):
Man, It was just a little lagging.
Speaker 4 (47:54):
So they I took it there, and of course it
didn't do it when I took it to the service sell.
Speaker 2 (48:02):
It's good to know that even uh an all electric
car still acts like my nineteen eighty five long bed
GMC like it. It's still you take I swear guys,
it's been doing it all week, and then you take
it to the dealership and camp.
Speaker 3 (48:17):
Yeah. See, I swear it was doing it.
Speaker 4 (48:19):
I dropped it off at seven thirty am and yeah.
And so they contacted me at like three o'clock and said, yeah,
we found an issue.
Speaker 1 (48:27):
We're gonna have to keep it overnight.
Speaker 3 (48:29):
Oh it was like, okay, so that overnight is gonna
be a little longer.
Speaker 1 (48:33):
I guess they're just, you know, they're gonna just switch.
Speaker 4 (48:35):
Out the pets screen and they're waiting for a part
or something. Because it shouldn't be too hard.
Speaker 1 (48:39):
Those things are like hard, really easy. They didn't tell me.
Speaker 4 (48:42):
Yeah, they they did give me one hundred thousand dollars
loaner car though.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
Well it so you got the dancing one, Yeah, I
got I got the the one with the Falcon with
or X and the Sexy and that thing goes like
zero to sixty and like three secs.
Speaker 4 (48:58):
Have ludicrous speed, it has great mode, doesn't have Ludicris.
Speaker 3 (49:02):
This is the one I drove back from Houston. I
went into ridiculous one insane mode and like I always
cruising about ninety to one hundred.
Speaker 4 (49:09):
Yeah, you gotta have you gotta have the plaid addition
to get the ludicrous modes.
Speaker 1 (49:13):
But insane's pretty good too. And all of that is
I've tried it all too.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
All of that is from Spaceballs, Like we're one hundred
percent sure. Oh yeah yeah, the plaid when they go
into the plaid, Yeah yeah, Like of course it's so
it's look, I love a good bit. I always love
someone that for the other team there.
Speaker 3 (49:33):
But at least the chat I see every one of
you and I will find at least are you still
talking Yankees, I'm not talking anything. Oh we're talking Ludacris,
spy plaid, Spaceballs, cars breaking down, no boxers.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
On to our main segment to nom Kid. Uh, what
about the rest of your weekend before your car went
tits up? Not much?
Speaker 4 (49:59):
And went up to Sam Marcus on Friday and hit
up some bars that I hadn't been to.
Speaker 2 (50:04):
And which ones I'm curious to. Tap Room, Yeah, tap
room was my first.
Speaker 3 (50:09):
Is that the first one on the right when you
go on the main street.
Speaker 2 (50:11):
No, it's kind of tucked to the middle. Yeh, it's
kind of on.
Speaker 1 (50:15):
The on the backside. Really, you have to go through
a bar at the front.
Speaker 4 (50:19):
If you park on the front of the square, you
have to go through one bar to get to the
top park on the back.
Speaker 3 (50:24):
Is that the one where our mutual friend? Is he
still out there hosting?
Speaker 4 (50:31):
I don't know what he does out there. I don't
I think he's moved on from hosting.
Speaker 2 (50:35):
That was very vague, like, yeah, I don't know if
I should say what he does out there in San Mark.
Speaker 3 (50:41):
I think he works on campus now he works because yeah,
because he works for I don't want to be like
he's out there with a bunch of kids.
Speaker 1 (50:48):
He became adults.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
I'm not gonna lie outside of course, outside of working
for iHeart, Hey go, I Heart. The best job I
ever had was working on camp at Texas State. I
worked in the bookstore up dude. It was awesome. One
year Kinky Friedman came in the first week of classes
new semester had just started. Uh, Kinky Freeman r I
(51:10):
P walked into the student center. I was working in there,
and I was one of the few people, you know,
all college kids, one of the few people that recognized him,
knew who he was, and so I walked up and
I was like, hey, mister Friedman, what are you doing
on campus? You know, what are you doing here? And
he's like, well, call me Kinky And I was like, okay, it's.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
A little growing another man delicious.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Yeah, it's a little uncomfortable, but if you tell me to, yes, sir,
I kink.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
I call him. I call him all kink.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
And then he followed it like all right, kink. The
second he followed it with I'll tell you what I'm
doing here. I'm just checking out the new scenery. And
it was the creepiest but yet like hell yeah, like
hell yeah, they're all it's a college campus.
Speaker 3 (51:57):
There's no issues.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
Not at college. He stays the same age and in
his eyes they all rotate. Yeah, he was coming to
check out the new scenery at Texas Steak. It was look,
you all making it much worse. It was a very.
Speaker 4 (52:20):
There was a lot of scenery over there at the
Bikini Hill, or as we referred to it as the
ass Knowle.
Speaker 2 (52:30):
I would suggest, uh, a few colleges have as good
of scenery in Texas As Texas.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
True, It's true.
Speaker 2 (52:39):
It's like you either get that we're the home of
future porn stars.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
The river runs through.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
It, Everyone's in painting suits. It's spectacular.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
You graduate, you jump in the river.
Speaker 3 (52:50):
What are we?
Speaker 2 (52:51):
What are we talking about? And shout out to.
Speaker 1 (52:56):
Shout, shout out, my bobcats. Moving on, moving to the
I don't even PACK twelve.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
I'm so uncomfortable calling at the PAC twelve because it's
when I say the pack. When I think of PAC twelve,
I think of, you know, the Conference of champions the
you know, UCLA and USC and the Rose Bowl. I
think of Joey Harrington and the Oregon Ducks coming out
of nowhere and putting Oregon on the map. I think
of Washington playing in a national championship game twice in
(53:27):
my lifetime. None of those teams I just listed are
in the PAC twelve anymore.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
So what is this like?
Speaker 4 (53:32):
Five different conferences in the past ten years for Texas State.
Speaker 2 (53:36):
It's a hell of a come up. It's you know.
And of course, as we sit in San Antonio and
I'm wearing an SMU shirt, my grandpa went there.
Speaker 3 (53:44):
It's family.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
I saw a lot of back and forth between UTSA
and Texas State fans, alumni students over the weekend, and
I it's one of those deals where I don't think
anyone's right, but I also don't think anyone's wrong. Say,
got offered to go to the PAC twelve along with
three other teams from the American Conference. UTSA didn't have
(54:07):
the twenty five million dollars to buy out to get out, and.
Speaker 3 (54:10):
We were still playing in the Animal Dome, and the PAC.
Speaker 2 (54:13):
Twelve didn't have the money from a media deal that
they used to have to cover that buyout like they
would have if it was the old Pack twelve. So
that didn't work out. Texas State only getting leaving the
Sun Belt not nearly as much of a cost to
move to the PAC twelve. Yeah, So it feels like
(54:33):
it feels like a as cliche as it is, it
kind of feels like a win for everyone in a
sense because.
Speaker 3 (54:40):
Because I went the road Runners in the Big twelve.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
Eventually, Yeah, I think there's yeah to be honest, it
would be awesome if Texas State and UTSA were in
the same conference, whether it's the Big Twelve, because I
want that rivalry. I mean, Texas State has been playing
football for one hundred and what lg one hundred and
ten twenty years, long time, long, long time. I mean
they go back to early nineteen hundred. North Texas or
(55:05):
is SMU.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
That's kind of like is their rival besides the road
Runners they are now coming up.
Speaker 2 (55:10):
For Texas State, Texas State's rival is more. It's more
Sam Houston State because they have the history of being
in the same conference before both of them jumped to
D one. That's more like last year Texas State and
sam Houston State played at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Ok
it's that big of a like it's an old because
(55:32):
again both of those schools. UTSA has been playing football
for fifteen years. Yeah, Texas State and Sam Houston State
have been playing for decades plus, you know, like they have.
That's more Texas State's traditional rival at this point. And
for UTSA, it's Texas State and North Texas. Okay, so
it's North Texas and UTSA have had some good battles
(55:54):
and now that they're in the same conference on the
same level. So all of that to say, I know
there is.
Speaker 3 (55:59):
There was some tracks stuck between UTSA coach and Texas
State coach. Right about the baseball the base.
Speaker 2 (56:05):
Oh yeah, yeah yeah Hallmark, Yeah, well, and that's yeah.
You know, Texas State has got a pretty awesome baseball
stadium there. They've they've put some kids in in the
big leagues too, so they'd say that's probably Texas State's
most consistent program. But I just think it's it's good
(56:26):
for everyone. It's good for the region, it's good for
I mean there's so many obviously, you know LG and
I went to Texas State. There's so many Texas State people, uh,
you know in San Antonio, like r J works for KSAT,
he's a Texas State guy, you know, doing news in
San Antonio. I just think it's good.
Speaker 3 (56:46):
I'm older. Half the math my friends are Texas State
because UTSA really wasn't.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
It wasn't anything until football program, really yea. But yeah,
it's or you know back then Southwest Texas State s WT.
I just want to see whether they're in the same
conference or not. The fact that Texas State is growing
as U t s A is growing potentially gets you know,
what's what's the what's.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
The old word? Uh?
Speaker 2 (57:12):
High tide rises all boats something like that?
Speaker 3 (57:16):
You a fisherman?
Speaker 2 (57:17):
Uh Josper Dude, Sorry, I made the I've made the you,
I've made the roommate watch jaw so I've watched it
now twice in the last ten days.
Speaker 3 (57:31):
I forgot.
Speaker 2 (57:31):
I just forgot o utgraded. I even uh even might
have watched Close Encounters because I went down a spilbird wormhole.
I had a lot of free time this weekend. I
get off my back.
Speaker 3 (57:44):
My car was broken.
Speaker 2 (57:47):
I uh I it's exciting. I mean, long story short,
too good to good to see Texas State move up,
because just getting out of sun belt is nice as
ut s A can attest to anything else from the
weekend boys, Before we move on to the main segment.
Speaker 3 (58:03):
Great golf golf match many.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
Yeah, that was good, like five three person extra hole,
five hole playoff.
Speaker 3 (58:11):
Oh man, and like they man, they were running it
like it was just back and forth. And then he
just one shot, just one putt was better than the other.
And the kid, the guy, the twenty year old, the
kid who won it. I can I don't remember his
name is. He's twenty years old. He's twenty years old. Man,
what were you doing at twenty winning golf championships? You weren't.
Speaker 2 (58:30):
I was hanging out on the Asi nole.
Speaker 3 (58:34):
I was in there trying to sneak in the bar.
I wasn't really trying. I was sneaking into bars and
banging chicks and you know my life, which.
Speaker 2 (58:43):
Means you were getting kicked out of bars in an
attempt to.
Speaker 3 (58:47):
Get Like they were trying to hire me as a bouncer,
and they're like, can we get your rd for the
ten ninety nine Kick this off the notes, we're keeping
this off the book, sirt.
Speaker 2 (58:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
Yeah, so they end up man end up the twenty
year old kids.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
South African kid. How do you say his last name?
It was like pottager, Patiotti or pot putt putcha tour.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
Was out there, college graduate in the other room.
Speaker 1 (59:12):
Not gonna work here anymore.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
Yeah, Okay, he's South African. He probably supports apartheid anyway.
Speaker 3 (59:19):
Oh my god, there's a lot of South.
Speaker 2 (59:25):
African golfers that have it on the record, looking at you.
Gary Player had some hot opinions about the opposing race
that occupied your country. But the little old man. You
leave that little old man alone. People don't forget they
are racist. People don't forget. But yeah, I wasn't as plugged.
I had the golf on the quad box, but it
would there. The names just weren't as Yeah, I mean
(59:48):
they're a great story for the twenty year old kid.
Speaker 3 (59:50):
I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
I'm sure he doesn't. I'm sure he's fine. I'm sure
he's great.
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Fine, it just didn't he just as a horrible didn't
enslaving indigit people well, you.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Know, minor detail. Uh it Uh, it just didn't grab
my attention a whole lot. Yeah, Gary, Gary player has
got uh you never want to be a golf player
that has a controversy tab on Wikipedia. That's all that's uh.
You know, that's like the Tiger Woods rule. If I'm
scrolling your Wikipedia page and I see contracty, like, oh,
(01:00:22):
let me, uh what do we stand on that first?
You know, Yeah, let's let's expand on that. Uh So yeah,
let's uh move into the main segment here as we
hit the hour mark. I teased it. This will probably
be our last NBA segment for a few months, barring
any other massive news that come out because it feels, uh,
(01:00:44):
you know, at this point most of the big names,
or there really weren't any big names. Most of the
the top available guys are pretty much gone now, got
released surprisingly or might be about to get traded. Even so,
we'll start with the Spurs because we've talked about it,
(01:01:07):
you know, the weeks leading up to the draft. You know,
everyone kind of assumed that fourteenth pick would be where
the Spurs address their need for a big man. Yeah,
but when, but of course the GM we trust, well,
when Carter Bryant is there, Yeah, that the value of
getting him at fourteen outweighs the need to draft someone
(01:01:29):
to be your backup big man. Did you hear that
We did not even practice and then not even take
a look at him, call him in for a practice
session or something to.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
Hope to slip, for him to slip to the teens
and trade up for him.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
That was the interesting, That was the goal.
Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
And then they fell. It fell in their lap.
Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
Yeah, you couldn't have had I may work him out
at all. The going back in, well, first of all,
that's a sick ass Spurs draft to hatch. I do
appreciate that. Yeah, you know, going back to last Wednesday
as we were sitting here doing the watch party, the
watch along. Even in the moment, I couldn't believe that
(01:02:12):
New Orleans traded away their first round pick next year
to move up to thirteen. Yeahs crazy, But like the
more I think about it now, the fact that you know,
Chicago picked twelfth, the fact that Chicago didn't try to
do that like like.
Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
They don't need a three point three D guy, yeah,
or you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
Know, just the or try to make that trade with
New Orleans. I mean, it was there were there were
so many not insane, but there were so many questionable
decisions made from that tenth pick of Malawa, Wash to Phoenix,
to which that one makes perfect sense. They're rebuilding, you
can get your big man. But then you know eleven, twelve, thirteen,
(01:02:55):
the three picks leading up to the Spurs pick, it
was just an It was just like, how is how
is this falling? Like that? Like, how is how is
Cedric Coward, a guy that was playing D three basketball
getting picked ahead of Carter Bryant? How is uh, you know,
Esseno Essingu, the Frenchman that apparently Chicago had made a
(01:03:16):
guarantee to how is he going ahead of Carter Bryant.
And then the biggest one, why is New Orleans trading
their first round pick next year to get Derek Queen
at thirteen? And if I was Brian Wright or the Spurs,
you know Pat in the front Pop in the front office. Uh,
if I was any of them watching those teams, like,
(01:03:37):
those are the things that bad teams do.
Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
Yeah, exactly, That's why. That's why you stay at the bottom. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
Like that they didn't have to trade up or do
anything because the teams ahead of them were so just
so set on there, like tunnel vision. It sure seemed
like it, which I had no idea like.
Speaker 3 (01:03:58):
And then when I heard that, like we purposely did
not work him out, which is like, why are we
going to pick someone we don't work out or to
get a health physical or any kind of stuff like that.
Have our doctors check them out and then pick them.
And then I do remember ours was a quick pick.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
Our pick was in Oh yeah, no they want They
immediately were like, no, we're not. We're not entertaining any
trades from anybody that wants to because you had, you know,
right after that, you had, you know, out of the
next three picks, four picks. There were three trades. Yeah,
so like the Spurs on a between the twelfth pick
(01:04:36):
or between the thirteenth pick and the eighteenth pick, five picks.
The Spurs were the only one of those picks that
wasn't a trade, and technically, technically it was a trade
from two years ago from the Desonte trade. It was
the Atlanta pick. Yeah, But like the rest of those
were all movement, which.
Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
You can obviously say, like even with the point guard
is like we got a younger Deshonte Murray who can
put it on the ground, who plays grade D and
he can hit the three.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Oh if you're are you talking about Harper? Yeah, first
of all, comparing Harper was the number two pick, Dehnte was,
I'm talking about Carter. Oh, Carter, Carter's he's gonna end
up playing four. He's gonna end up being an undersized
four or a pure three man.
Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
Yeah, I think he's gonna be a three man. Like
but it's just Dejonte. He was our point guard. But
he was the size where he could play it three.
Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
You know, he was a little smaller, I mean, not
to the not you know, Carter Bryant's solid six eight.
I mean he's a big old boy compared to four. No, Dejonte,
I seen him.
Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
He was bigger than me.
Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
Nah, well that then you're five eleven. I don't know
what to tell you. No, Deghonte is like six four,
somewhere right in that six three six four range.
Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
Maybe I saw a difference.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Maybe maybe you just saw rd it was.
Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
It was that George's keep.
Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
Okay, Well, babe, Uh No, I think it's we talked
about it. You know, we're not going to spend a
whole lot of time talking about the draft, uh, because
we talked about it a lot last week. We got
a lot of free agent free agency.
Speaker 3 (01:06:13):
To get to.
Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
But outside of Dallas tripping over their unit and getting
the first pick, overall, I think you have to say
Dallas had the best draft. If Cooper Flag is what
we think he is, If Cooper Flag is you know,
the level of one to one transcendent pick, then that's
(01:06:39):
the best draft.
Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
But there's no one that came close to second to
where I would say the Spurs were. I mean, getting
Dylan Harper second and then getting marg Or Bryant fourteenth.
The gap from them to Dallas is smaller than the
gap from them to whoever you would say had the
third best player.
Speaker 3 (01:06:56):
I love how they gave, like I tacked a bunch
of grades and they all gave the Harper pick a
bee because they're like.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Spurs are so loaded at this position, and it's like, okay,
and that was stupid, but he's a he's a talent,
right And the main guy that was Kevin O'Connor writing
for Yahoo and his So I don't agree you don't
give the draft a bee because of the talent you
brought in. But with that being said, and we talked
(01:07:25):
about this a little, We've talked about this a lot
over the last few weeks. The fit with the Aaron
Fox on the roster. Still they're absolutely like deeron Fox
is about to be the odd man looking in on
the Harper Castle backcourt. Like there's I don't I don't
(01:07:47):
think the Spurs are envisioning five years from now, three
years from now, that Fox, Castle and Harper are all
you're starting one, two and three. That's untenable. You can't have.
That's just I don't think that lineup works.
Speaker 3 (01:08:01):
I think Harper becomes the point guard at some point.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
One thousand percent. I think I which again let's get
Fox locked into that extension, so he is a tradeable
asset here in two years when you're finally ready, or
maybe even sooner, depending on how this group gels and
how good Harper is. But Fox is gonna end up
being the centerpiece of a bigger deal of whichever. And
(01:08:25):
I had this marked down. You know, the Spurs have
gone planned powder by not doing any kind of Yannis trade.
Who knows if Jannis is even available, We'll talk about
that in a minute. You know, obviously not doing the
KD trade, not making any kind of big swing trade
this offseason. They've gone, you know, preserve their flexibility. But
(01:08:49):
at the same time, there's no team outside of Oklahoma
City that is more ready to pounce on that next
star that we might we're not even talking about yet,
that becomes available, or that pushes for a trade.
Speaker 3 (01:09:02):
And Oklahoma City just gets richer.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Man. Of course, I mean they're well run there. That's
why why the Spurs are trying to replicate what Prusty
has done. Yeah, it's funny. Prusty learned it and San
Antonio did it in Oklahoma City, and now san Antonio
is copying, copying Prusty. What he's done in Oklahoma City.
It's it's very because we.
Speaker 3 (01:09:23):
Were trying, we were trying to keep the street going
for Pop. I think it was just like we were
trying to get him the most wins. We were trying
to get him speaking.
Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
Did y'all see that they were the NBA rescinded, Yeah,
and gave them to Mitch Johnson, which it takes. Pop
is now under fourteen hundred total wins. He's at one thousand,
three hundred and ninety. He's still fifty three fifty three
or fifty five clear of Don Nelson for the overall record.
Speaker 3 (01:09:48):
I didn't even think about that.
Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
Yeah, no, he's I just thought it has helped his average,
So it helped his win percent His win percentage went
from like six twenty one up to six twenty eight,
still eighth, seventh or eighth best win percentage ever, but
most wins overall, so it But it means Mitch Johnson
now officially has seventy games worth of you know, worth
(01:10:14):
of a coaching record. Yeah, which seemed fair. But I
I'm just just not keep an eye because I don't
think it's gonna happen this year. But the darn Fox
extension talks. We still haven't gotten any kind of extension.
He's going to be an expiring contract if they don't
do anything. I think they're going to get something done.
Speaker 3 (01:10:35):
But I think if you're we didn't a game a
four year extension, I don't think that's been officially and
twenty eight million has a fact check me on that.
Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
Yeah, he's in position. He potentially could sign a four year,
two hundred and twenty nine million dollar extension. But here's
the thing, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (01:10:59):
Sure what we're going to keep him for a year.
Well that's I get I say we sign him, we
have the money, signs and then we get him for
trade bay in two to three years and.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
The team, you're not going to sign him as an
expiring contract at the deadline this year because you wouldn't
get full value exactly. But here's the other thing. The
Aaron Fox now knows like he can read the room.
He sees Harper as the future point guard. He sees
Castle as the future guard.
Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
But we're gonna give him the max the max contract
they can get right now. He can't get a super
max because he's not No.
Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
He's not ye, he's not eligible budgetble they.
Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
Just raised the NBA cap.
Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
Yeah, and uh didn't go up as much as let
go up someone.
Speaker 3 (01:11:42):
How was that?
Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
I thought it was Yeah, like seventeen I think it was.
But yeah, I think his uh you know, his his
idea or vision for his future now versus six months
ago when they did the trade. What you do that trade?
Every time they Spurs gave up nothing to get No way,
(01:12:03):
we're gonna get the second pick exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
And that's and now all of a sudden, probably gunning
for Carter the whole time, and then the fact that
we got the number two pick, we're just like, eh,
pivot to the next uh, the second best player in
the draft that would be number one and any other
draft except for the wob Yeah, I just think the
(01:12:26):
we have to get we have to sign Fox for
that money.
Speaker 2 (01:12:28):
Yeah, I think you get an extension done while both
parties kind of know.
Speaker 3 (01:12:33):
Look and in a in two years we can make
a run.
Speaker 2 (01:12:37):
And we're potentially going we can make a run.
Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
We can, dude, believe in the in in San Antonio,
we like to believe.
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
No, it's you like to be and that's fine, it's fine. Yeah, No,
you'll you'll pay twenty dollars to hear a shitty cover
band sing that song on a on a Friday night
like it's it's great. I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
Spasms are not shitty, buddy.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
You realize every city has a version of the spasmatics.
It's a oh yeah, San Antonio spasmatics.
Speaker 3 (01:13:07):
Way better.
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
See this is what I'm talking about. Like, it's not
that I'm not a believer, It's that it's that I
look at the rest of the way Denver. Denver just
might have had the second best off season of any team.
Houston just had the best off season of any team.
Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
You have.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
Other teams that did well in the off season in
the East.
Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
But Houston had the best off season.
Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
Yes, they got Katie got Kdi, got Dorian Finney, Smith,
got Clint Cappella, extended Jabari Smith on a very cheap
value deals.
Speaker 3 (01:13:44):
I didn't see that one.
Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
But and now they are in the position of still
they can still offer Shingoon and whoever else for Giannis
if the Bucks implode. Houston's in a great As much
as it pains me to say, like Houston is clearly
the second best team in the West, they were the
second best team in the West this year and they
just got better. The gap between old Oklahoma City, Houston,
(01:14:08):
Denver and then it's that middle ground of the West
right now, you know, Lakers are potentially I think I
think they're gonna get Ayton. I think I saw that earlier.
But like that's you know, they don't get Horford, they
don't get brook Lopez having to settle for an unmotivated
(01:14:31):
DeAndre Ayton. Lebron let's talk about Lebron. Is Lebron angling
for a trade right now?
Speaker 3 (01:14:38):
I want to go back home to play with my
son in Cleveland. Bring Bronny with me, Bring little Bronny
with me. But then they're saying the bad blood, the
heatles from the Heatles that he's going to that like
they don't want him, but the fans will take them,
you know, because they're gearing up everything. Like just like
we talked about last week. Then like there's very with
(01:15:01):
all the injuries. And that's the reason why they let
Damian Lillard go is to because they went and signed
a bit who do they.
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
Sign the uh Myles Turner, Miles PACER's big man.
Speaker 3 (01:15:13):
Yeah, the Pacers big man. To try to get this
year with Giannis because this is last year's contract. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
Uh, no, he's still under extension, but they're just trying
to keep him committed, committed. Okay, yeah, because he's you.
Speaker 3 (01:15:28):
Know, dackfire.
Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
The rumor mill has always been that Jannie might be available,
but we've never actually heard anything from Jannis. But the
you know, Rich Paul's you know, Clutch Sports, Lebron's buddy agent,
you know his comments talking about how you know Lebron
is is not looking to uh, you know, he's still
(01:15:53):
looking to compete. He still wants to win a title,
and we'll be watching what the Lakers do. First of all,
that's owns a lot like potentially Lebron is available if
there is a team that has the assets to make
it happen, which there are a few that could absolutely
(01:16:14):
do it tonight, if Lebron was really serious about angling
for a trade. But I think this is a perfect
example of Lebron, like he does often, talking out of
both sides of his mouth. Because you talk, you say,
you know, I'm not looking to retire. I'm still in
(01:16:35):
championship mode. I'm still trying. I want to be on
a team that's a championship contender. First of all, you
were on the three seed in a loaded West last
year with Luca for only three months, like you're about
to get a whole season of that. Like, yes, you
lost Finney Smith, you need to get a center, but
there are holes in that roster, but it's not like
(01:16:56):
you're playing on a team that played in the play
in last year.
Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
See Lebron's ego going to the Heat and them being like, well,
this is still Dwayne Wade's city. You know, we see
the ego. Now Luca just took his shine.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Well and that's the thing. So again, talking about Lebron specifically,
you say it's still about winning championships, but he's not
the scenario. But you opt into that fifty two million
final year on the contract, so it's away from fifty
I understand. But if it's all about championships, you could
have turned that down and signed any team for the minimum.
Speaker 3 (01:17:33):
So it's all about championships and what he can sit
there and be.
Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
Like, no, it's all about money, money, and then championship
and that's fine, but don't tell me it's all about.
Speaker 3 (01:17:44):
You know, because everywhere he's been he's like, you better
bring people in that are available to compete to a championship.
Or I'm not coming for you.
Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
Do you know how many times has Lebron taking a
pay cut in his career?
Speaker 3 (01:17:54):
One time?
Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
One time, I think never the only one time to
get the three heatles, to get to get to get
Bosh under, to get them all together under the cap.
And then since then, yeah, not one forty year old
Lebron being paid over fifty million dollars a year.
Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
That's I meanigulous. Who's gonna take that contract?
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
It's well, I mean there would be the Knicks would
trade Cat straight up for him right now. I bet
they would, or they would trade Michel Bridges. Dude, that
Cat number. In three years or in two years, they're
going to have to do a Cat extension where the
starting the rays will be fifteen percent from sixty one dollars.
(01:18:37):
That Cat contract is about to get ugly, especially if
well that's what I'm saying, if you're if you're the Lakers,
and he does he have like a no trade clause.
Cat doesn't know Lebron does, which again makes this even
more difficult.
Speaker 3 (01:18:54):
But iculous number. When you're into the number two on
the team, right.
Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
And you mentioned Bronny's Let's be honest, if Lebron is
now throwing the Lakers under the bus by saying I
want out because you're not doing enough to win. That's
the same organization that drafted your son last year and
the second round at a at fifty five overall I
(01:19:20):
think it was, and gave him a fully guaranteed contract.
He's the only second round pick ever picked at that
number that has gotten guaranteed money. The Lakers did exactly
what you wanted to get your son to play, you know,
bring your kid to work for the rest of your career,
and now you're potentially trying. Lebron has no leverage for
(01:19:42):
the first time in his career, the first time ever.
Tim Duncan never ran out of leverage, Jordan never ran
out a leverage, Kobe never ran out of leverage. Lebron
has finally, and again I think a different scenario those guys.
Duncan didn't want leverage that he wasn't looking. He was
never really leveraging the Spurs outside of the flirtation with
(01:20:04):
Orlando that one time. But Lebron, for the first time
in his twenty three twenty two year career, is on
a team where he is not the number one priority,
and I think that's the most interesting part of this
whole story. I think the Lakers kind of let Dorian
(01:20:24):
Finney Smith walk because they're more thinking about Luca's timeline
than Lebron's, and Dorian and Luca obviously buddies from you know,
Luca's early years in Dallas, when Finney Smith was still
on that team. So you could have convinced me, we're
overpaying for Finny Smith to make Luca happy, but they
(01:20:48):
didn't do that. They let him go to Houston, and
from reporting about the contract negotiations with Finny Smith, they
kind of did him dirty. They kind of lowballed him
and then told other teams around the league like, now
he's injured. He didn't he was injured behind the scenes.
He wasn't available when we needed him. He's got nagging, yeah,
(01:21:09):
which you don't Never got up on that story. You
don't do that. Yeah. And so Phinney Smith's agent pulled
all negotiations with the Lakers, which I think Lebron's team
learned without the Lakers telling them. I think Lebron's team
learned from Phinney Smith's agents that the Lakers were doing
(01:21:30):
him dirty, which I think is also why Lebron releases
that statement through Rich Paul that says, you've got to
do You've got to build a contender, or I'm not
gonna be happy, basically because I think they knew the
news of Phinney Smith leaving was gonna hit twelve hours
later once a daylight broke. So there's a lot I.
Speaker 3 (01:21:51):
Don't see Lebron being the Laker next year.
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
I kind of don't either at this point. I didn't
believe it at first. The first time I read the
statement from Rich Paul, I thought, oh, this is classic Lebron.
He's leveraging. This is what he always does that he
forces teams to trade for guys like uh uh, you
know Larry Hughes or Donielle Marshall overpaying for guy because
(01:22:14):
he just wants He's like, okay, yeah, that'll that'll work.
I can win with that. Like it's it might be
terrible for the future of this franchise, but it'll help
me individually win a championship this year. So I want
you to make this really dumb trade that's gonna hamstring
your future, but it's gonna keep me happy for the
next year until I decide this guy is terrible. And
(01:22:36):
I want him gone. Now say we've seen that. Lebron's
done it at every single stop, less so in Miami
because pat Riley put a put basically put his foot
down and said, you're a player. I'm the GM president.
Mind your own damn business.
Speaker 3 (01:22:52):
And if Pat wasn't.
Speaker 1 (01:22:53):
There, Oh, look at that Blue Jays win eleven to nine.
Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
Huh no, wonder, uh no, wonder you've been more in
gay just in the NBA talk for the last ninety seconds.
Speaker 3 (01:23:03):
It was great. It was a great home run.
Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
Okay, well, I'm glad that's behind. You should have maybe that,
maybe maybe.
Speaker 3 (01:23:11):
We don't play Ben Rice as a catcher.
Speaker 2 (01:23:13):
I thought we thought we loved Ben Rice. No, we
do love base The Yankees minute is over the that
as a catcher. Lebron to Cleveland, Lebron to Cleveland for
uh a combination. Cleveland has the pieces that if they
were actually serious about making a surprise Lebron trade, they
(01:23:39):
have the numbers to match it up. It would be
probably built around Jared Allen. Uh potentially throughout the Knicks,
you know, if the cat idea is wild. But uh,
Michel Bridges.
Speaker 3 (01:23:52):
I never even knew about that contract, and I was
like we're talking about now, I hear that contract.
Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
Well, that's why I thought you might be able to
do it without giving up a whole lot of assets.
Might be because of the contract, but like.
Speaker 3 (01:24:08):
That would be right around where we're gonna have to
pay Wimby.
Speaker 2 (01:24:10):
All right, you ready for this? So this year Kad
is making fifty three point one million, Next year, KAD
is making fifty seven million, and three years from now
twenty twenty seven to twenty twenty eight sixty one million.
So if you extend him, you're doing an extension that's
somewhere between ten or fifteen percent higher. Is that the
(01:24:31):
starting salary.
Speaker 3 (01:24:31):
At the highest contract ever? No? No, no, no.
Speaker 2 (01:24:35):
SGA just signed that his extension earlier this week, that
is officially, and that's why they raised the cat. Yeah, exactly,
And I saw that earlier. Also, I don't know what
the millions percent was, but I said seventeen it went
up like seven percent, seven percent, yeah, so but it's
still you know, seven percent of one hundred and fifty
(01:24:56):
six million or something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:24:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:24:59):
And then the other ones, like is Golden State seriously
going to flip Jimmy Butler for Lebron after just kind
of committing. I think they might, But there was the
flirtation even back at the deadline this past year where
Golden State was trying to sniff into.
Speaker 3 (01:25:18):
They're sniffing Giannis right now. From what I've seen some
looks of like this could be a championship team if
they got Gianni's, which I I can't tell them they're not.
Speaker 2 (01:25:29):
No, I think I think that that would definitely, It
would definitely put them back in that Oka see Houston
Denver group where they they've fallen out of U. And
then the the really hair brained one would be if
Dallas got tried to get involved in any kind of negotiation,
(01:25:49):
and because they just gave the extension to Gafford, who
Luca loved, you know, had great chemistry with in Dallas,
you could do like a.
Speaker 3 (01:25:56):
They freedomp cap room for signing Kyrie two years.
Speaker 2 (01:25:59):
Yeah, the three year, thirty nine million a year extension. Yeah,
like one nineteen.
Speaker 3 (01:26:07):
You know, you could do.
Speaker 2 (01:26:08):
You know, Klay thompson second choice in free agency when
he left Golden State to come to Dallas. His second
choice was la and he's he's a bit of a
corpse of his old self now. But the minor detail
his contract number. Uh you could do Gafford, Klay Thompson,
and then a combination of like Nause, Marshall or someone
(01:26:28):
else on that roster. You could make it work. I
just don't think I'm if.
Speaker 3 (01:26:33):
Dallas needla learn more NBA player.
Speaker 2 (01:26:36):
Buddy all of Why do you think all these numbers
are so fresh? I ran at one point and I
was texting with my buddy Toby about it. Uh So
I did the entire draft with every player going exactly
in the spot that he went, did the full draft,
got them all on the right team, and then I
(01:26:57):
saved it at the beginning of free agent. See, and
I've been going through these stays. Put the guys on
the right full fully nerding. This is my favorite time
of year. This week the draw.
Speaker 3 (01:27:10):
How long did that take you to sit there and
put the stats up? Okay, don't they have that like
it's like an update nowadays?
Speaker 2 (01:27:16):
So they stop updating at the end of the season.
Why because don't these nerds have something to do? Do
they something better to do? They want to they want
to take your money again come September because that will
be the first official update with the rookie you have
to pay for those updates. No, no, no, I'm saying
new game. Like when they bring the new game out,
(01:27:37):
that's when you'll actually get the actual players.
Speaker 3 (01:27:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
SGA's contract to Adrian's chiming in. That's gonna get up
to seventy one million a year. Like we're we're crossing
into uncharted waters in the NBA. But I the chances
of Lebron actually being traded I think are still lower
than fifty but they're closer to fifty percent than zero.
Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
I think we would all agree.
Speaker 3 (01:28:04):
I think I would put you know, if it was
a poker player, I'd bet half the pot. Yeah, I
think he's I bet half the pot that he's gone,
especially so I saw, yeah, if they did get Ayton,
they signed him.
Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
Yeah, but I mean that if you're.
Speaker 3 (01:28:20):
A Lebron, I mean you just you just you gotta
pay Luca. That doesn't Yeah, it's Luca. I think Lebron
is struggling with the fact that it's Luca's team. It's
the first time in his career, it's not he's on
an NBA team and it's not Lebron. So the fact
that the whole friend that everybody was like this is
the most ridiculous trade ever. You're trained, you know, a
(01:28:41):
legendary player in Luca and to a team that has
Lebron the King on it, and everybody was freaking out
about it. I think that really shot, you know, stuck,
stuck up his little oh, big time, one thousand percent
all of that. Yeah, the spotlight was off of him.
(01:29:02):
Another funny scenario.
Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
I think it would be hilarious if he does actually
want to get traded and Cleveland negotiates a deal for
him and Bronnie, and then Bronnie is telling Dad, liked,
I don't want to live in flipping Cleveland. I'm staying
in l A Like you.
Speaker 3 (01:29:22):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
It's like your ass got out of here as fast
as possible, Like, I don't want to go to Cleveland. Yeah,
Like I do you realize I'm gonna have to see
relatives all the time. I don't even respond to their
text Like, I think that's a that's a funny for
me to.
Speaker 3 (01:29:40):
Get to see Grandma every day. He's like, I don't care.
Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
I don't want to go to the Yeah, I just
want to. I don't want to live in Akron I
have I'm Bronnie. I'm Lebron James Son living in southern California,
I'm not going.
Speaker 3 (01:29:52):
To clear like, well, the D team doesn't play in
that in Cleveland, Yeah exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
Well, oh good for you. Their G League team is
actually in Bismarck. Yeah, Bismark, South Dakota. So you'll you'll
love it though. Yeah, I think last thought on Lebron,
I am a sucker for narratives when it comes to sports.
I do think it would be cool if he went
back to Cleveland. How close Cleveland is and how wide
(01:30:22):
open the East is now with all the injuries and
Mitchell Evan Mobley of.
Speaker 3 (01:30:29):
The Year, I think they would they would go to
the finals. I don't think they'd win, Lebron.
Speaker 2 (01:30:34):
Yeah, I mean it's I think right now there's no
team that I would confidently say would beat Oklahoma City.
That's the unfortunate positions had unbelievable year. Yeah, I think
they're second in the West, but I didn't say I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:30:48):
Think they have the firepower to beat Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (01:30:50):
Who I'd say that's more of a toss up series.
I mean, we've also still I haven't seen this Cleveland team.
Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
Were not talking about Joker anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
Actually, well, we're about to because Denver did exactly what
they needed to to put more pieces around him without
uh you know, really overpaying for anything. But before we
talk best off seasons, let's talk specifically Bucks because talking
about Giannis as a potential trade target or someone that
(01:31:28):
feels like is starting to sour on his current environment
in Milwaukee. Yeah, the how much does Miles Turner change
his line of thinking? Like, Miles Turner is a solid
NBA starting center. He's a fringe All Star in a
good season. His defensive metrics have dropped considerably from where
(01:31:49):
they were three years ago. He doesn't move nearly as
well as he did three years ago. He's I mean
a good He's very similar to Brook Lopez in the
uh you know, he's a pick and pop option. He's
a guy that can hit a three pointer, which is
what Yannis needs, you know, as the way Yannis operates,
(01:32:11):
having a spacing big man is a good fit. But
if you're Yannis, they wave Dame and use the stretch provision.
So one hundred million dollars remaining on his contract, that
now means over the next five years they're gonna have
twenty two million dollars of dead cap each season now,
(01:32:33):
so they for two years for five years because they
stretched it over five years instead of just eating because
they needed to stretch it so far so they could
get under the cap to sign Mykes up.
Speaker 3 (01:32:47):
So that's because they release the right.
Speaker 2 (01:32:51):
But if you if you wave a guy, you still
have that money is still on your book. It doesn't
just go money. So what they did instead of just
waiving him, where the money stayed what it would be.
So instead of it being fifty million this year a
year he's not going to play, and fifty million next year,
(01:33:11):
they take that total and stretch it over five years now,
so instead of it being fifty and fifty, it's now
twenty twenty, twenty twenty twenty. Yeah, you get what I'm saying.
I got, And that opened up enough room for them
to be able to sign Miles TURNERBA two k right
one thousand percent. But my question remains how much does
(01:33:34):
that change Giannie's You know, they also they bring they
re signed, they're gonna try Trent Junior resigned, Kevin Porter h.
Speaker 3 (01:33:42):
But they're going to try to They're going to try
to persuade him. The Twin Towers because who a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:33:49):
Of teams are doing that.
Speaker 3 (01:33:50):
Yeah, who's who's the who's the competition? You got New
York and you got the best players are undersized cat
for a Cinner like.
Speaker 2 (01:34:01):
Yeah, he's like six eight six times counts a solid
counts a solid seven. But he's he doesn't play like
a seven a squad and he's a spacing seven. He's
more like Dirk.
Speaker 3 (01:34:11):
And then you got and then you got Jalen Brunson
who just runs to the hole like Derrick Rose. And
then you got Cleveland. What who is who are there?
Speaker 2 (01:34:21):
Bigs Mobley and who I just said Jared Allen?
Speaker 3 (01:34:25):
Yeah, but you got there. It's Mitchell. That's Mitchell's team.
Speaker 2 (01:34:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:34:32):
So who else do we got?
Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
Indiana Pacers who aren't you know now they've lost Turner,
Halliburton's not playing. Pacers are a non thought. Celtics of
dismantled and are clearly in a gap year with title mount.
You know, the rest of the East.
Speaker 3 (01:34:47):
The heat, they don't have too much.
Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
The heat, the heat of the heater, the heat or
the heat the heater going. They're in line to sign something.
I think there's no one left. I mean they're not
they're not They're not going they traded Duncan Robinson. They're
not doing anything that's going to make them significantly better.
They're in that not this year. They're in that six
to ten range every year, which is dangerous for them
(01:35:12):
because I mean, but that was when they had Butler
so right, and this year as an eighth seed or
this year as a ten seed, they win the play in,
get to an eight seed, and then get swept where
in the last two games of the series they lost
by a combined ninety two points. So, you know, like
the heat, the heat or the heat they always scare me.
(01:35:32):
But they also it's like it's like these men are nihilists.
Speaker 3 (01:35:36):
Donnie Tyler Hero is not gonna take you there.
Speaker 2 (01:35:39):
Yeah, no, no, ty and Tyler Hero is getting paid
forty million something stupid too. So if you just look
at the rest of the.
Speaker 3 (01:35:48):
East so heat, they're I guarantee you they're trying to
say we're gonna win by size.
Speaker 2 (01:35:52):
They're trying to convince Giannis that this year with Miles Turner.
Speaker 3 (01:35:59):
We're going puts us going for the championship.
Speaker 2 (01:36:01):
Yeah, it keeps us in the conversation at least, which
I don't. Yeah, I feel about the Bucks, like I
do the Nuggets. As long as the Nuggets have yok
they're in the conversation. As long as the Bucks have Yannis,
they're in the conversation.
Speaker 3 (01:36:13):
Miles Turner playing for before Racer the pace. Oh okay.
Speaker 2 (01:36:17):
So, which is also funny because we saw the Pacers
and Bucks have you know, Halliburton's dad yelling at Yannis.
We saw in the regular season when Dame had the
fifty point game and the Pacers didn't give him the ball,
But then they came out and said, actually we did,
he just didn't. You know, all of that, Like the
(01:36:38):
Pacers Bucks are a bit of a budding rivalry with exactly.
So you know, Miles Turner going there, that's another kind
of angle on it too.
Speaker 3 (01:36:49):
But like I guarantee you that. So they're trying to
sell Yannis on that one.
Speaker 2 (01:36:53):
For sure. They're doing everything they can to show Yannis,
we're willing, We're willing to do big. Yeah, Like no
one saw them waving Dame like that was shocking.
Speaker 3 (01:37:07):
Yeah, but that was more like a friendship in the
fact that, like, how can you do Dame dollar?
Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
That way was fine, But it's like Dame's getting all
this money and he's about to get to pick his
next team is fine, exactly, and he's not playing basketball
next year exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:37:19):
It's like, and that's what you're telling is like, man,
we have a year like with Dame, we were struggling.
You know, it wasn't like, oh Dame went out, we
were up three to one and then we lost for three.
That wasn't like nobody had the bucks, you know, like
I didn't have them. No, No, the only way last
(01:37:40):
year the.
Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
Only way, I guess you could say it kind of
hurts or it kind of looks bad to the fan base.
You know, Dame had the blood clots, like Wenby comes
back to play in the playoffs and then immediately russ Achilles.
So in that sense, I guy that pushed his body
(01:38:01):
to get back for a playoff run and then had
catastrophic injury. I mean it just you never want to
be the guy that gets waved on a stretch provision. Well.
I read an article about it. The fact that guys,
the fact that kids are playing intense national travel AAU
(01:38:21):
at twelve, thirteen, fourteen years old, the miles I think
that we're just putting on these future.
Speaker 3 (01:38:28):
NBA guys elevation wham you Denver.
Speaker 2 (01:38:32):
You know, like twenty years ago, a kid who was
destined to play in the NBA wasn't playing high level
basketball at thirteen years old. I think the fact that
you're getting way more, you're getting guys have like running
backs almost like you're just putting too many miles on
their bodies now at too early. Where you used to
(01:38:54):
think a running back would fade at thirty two, now
they're fading at twenty eight. And I think that that's
kind of potentially maybe what we're seeing with because like
the NBA and these injuries, I.
Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
Mean with the running backs, man, that's all the game
is in high school, I mean middle school to high
school is most of these running backs are just used
eighty snaps a game.
Speaker 2 (01:39:16):
You know, and also playing safety or center linebackers. Quickly,
before we get to the lightning round, I mentioned the uh,
you know, we mentioned the Spurs at the top, but
really we only mentioned the draft and we kind of
teased that they got their big man. They do get
(01:39:39):
Luke Cornett, the Green Cornet from the Celtics. We're gonna
have to change that nickname though. You know.
Speaker 3 (01:39:44):
The one thing that I did see well that was
interesting me is the Spurs trade for the center. We
didn't give up much on him.
Speaker 2 (01:39:56):
It was just a straight signing.
Speaker 3 (01:39:57):
Yeah, straight signing.
Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
Well you actually you gave up I mean four for
forty one is not chump change.
Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
But in this day and age, man, when you got
like a two D and.
Speaker 2 (01:40:07):
Four, I'm not saying it's not a bad deal, but
it's definitely a slight overpaid. But for what Luke Cornett
is where were you at? I'm sorry, Oh no, I'm saying.
I just I love the signing and the fact that
it's eleven, Like that's a movable deal. He is about
to turn thirty, So in four years when he's on
an eleven million dollar contract.
Speaker 3 (01:40:29):
Give me your an down and a half. Defense.
Speaker 2 (01:40:32):
Offense, yes, uh not a near better above average, not elite,
near closer to elite than average, like the n defender,
incredibly smart and credit like. I think they've even thrown
out the idea that he has the highest IQ of
(01:40:52):
any NBA Like just natural intelligence. He's got great basketball IQ.
The sees the floor and anticipates well on offense. Doesn't
hold the ball, he's a he's a ball mover. Shot
some threes early in his career has only shot like
twenty two threes over the last three seasons, so I
(01:41:13):
don't think, Yeah, I don't think they're getting as much
of a floor spacer. But again, for eleven million dollars
or ten point two five million dollars a year average
for a guy that has an almost near elite skill
of rim defending, I think I think that's great business,
(01:41:35):
especially when you look at specifically what the Spurs needed.
Someone's in there, seven foot one, old school big man,
that banger. See the people at the top of the key,
see like a guy that's not going to force things
and is also not going to be a stop down
on offense. He's going to keep the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:41:54):
Most reminds me of who is the other Frenchy for
the Spurs, which one die?
Speaker 2 (01:42:00):
Yeah, I mean under he's not nearly. Let's not get crazy.
He's a seven foot one white man. He moves quite
differently than Boris was a six foot early oversized point
he was, but his.
Speaker 3 (01:42:21):
Career his eye because he put on all that way
from the water burger.
Speaker 2 (01:42:24):
That's correct, you know, which also arguably made him a
better player because he was better with the body than
he was. He's I mean Cornett's Again, when you look
at the overarching Spurs off season to get Dylan Harper,
Carter Bryant and Luke Cornette now as your backup big man,
(01:42:44):
that is that's great business and the only reason I
don't have him on the list for best off Seasons.
It's the same reason I don't have Dallas on there
because we don't know exactly. We don't. We think Dylan
Harper is going to be awesome, but we don't know.
We think Cooper Flag is gonna be awesome, but we
don't know, like like you know, like removing the draft
(01:43:08):
picks and just looking at the signings. Luke Cornett is
a solid signing.
Speaker 3 (01:43:13):
Because he's a veteran.
Speaker 2 (01:43:14):
Yeah, but it's nothing that I mean, it's it's not
he's not the missing piece.
Speaker 3 (01:43:18):
It sounds like he's also going to be able to
be in the ear of the young kids. If he's
he's a great example. Yes, smart as that We're sure
we like were not signing Chris Paul, so therefore we
have another veteran to be like, look, this guy was
opening the topic.
Speaker 2 (01:43:33):
Key.
Speaker 3 (01:43:33):
If you throw it down to me over here, I
can pitch it out over here and you can swing
it around. The swinging around the horn.
Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
I think that is I think you are spot spot
on with that because look at you know, the way
his Boston Celtics teammates talked about him the whole time
he was in Boston. It was exactly that. It was,
you know, Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum. Yea developing like Cornette,
let's not over, let's not over slop again. But he's
(01:44:04):
a voice. He's a guy that those young guys constantly
mentioned as a you know, one of the confection, good teacher,
a guy that could, like you were saying, could point
out to a young guard like when I get the
ball right here, this cut is going to be open,
so you know, reposition on the opposite side. And he's
(01:44:28):
that kind of smart. So he's he's a very he's
a very Spurs signing like it it's a it just fits,
it fits the Let me see if Vegas. Let's see
if Vegas, Vegas might be giving him fifty five wins
now with the Luke Cornett side. And now I'm kidding,
(01:44:49):
now I don't I think still clearly the Spurs are
keeping the powder dry for that next big move. But
Cornette fills the need and definitely makes them way more
interesting at the at that bottom end of the Western playloffs.
Speaker 3 (01:45:07):
I'm glad we filled the hole in there, aren't we?
Speaker 2 (01:45:11):
All on that note quickly? The best offseason I had
Denver Houston. We've talked about them. Denver with the Michael
Porter Junior trade to.
Speaker 3 (01:45:20):
Brooklyn, That's what I wanted.
Speaker 2 (01:45:22):
Man, what the hell you don't want Michael Porter Junior.
Speaker 3 (01:45:25):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:45:25):
He's again excellent two K player, but I don't think
you want him at the number he's on. I mean
the Denver got Cam Johnson for fifteen million, seventeen million
dollars cheaper than Michael Porter Junior. And I think Cam,
I think I kind of think Cam is a better
fit for what they need right now on that roster.
But Denver gets does the trade, gets Cam Johnson and
(01:45:48):
then also gets Valanchunis in a trade from Sacramento that
brings back a crowd favorite, fan favorite, Bruce Brown as well.
So Denver. You know, den took Oklahoma City to seven games.
Denver gave Oklahoma City the second best series of any team.
Denver still has the best player on the planet. They
(01:46:10):
you could say last year with what Michael Porter Junior
wasn't giving them and what they didn't have coming off
the bench, they needed two more guys, and I kind
of think they got there.
Speaker 3 (01:46:23):
Trying to do a little twin tower action. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:46:25):
Well with Jokic, I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:46:27):
We all saw Jamal he's not Theaal, He's not the
championship exactly exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:46:32):
So I mean Denver is still I think clearly third
best going into the season, third best in the West.
We talked about Houston. I think they probably overall had
the best offseason so far. Threw Orlando in there because
of the Orlando needed shooting, and they got Desmond Bane.
(01:46:53):
They've made a couple other moves that have you know,
again the East, we didn't mention them.
Speaker 3 (01:46:59):
Oh yeah, Orlando.
Speaker 2 (01:47:00):
The East being as wide open as it is, Orlando
sees that they or going to be like a Charlotte. Yeah.
I don't think you can think about that much. We
used to think about that with Detroit too, and I
think the days of Detroit and Orlando not being lumped
into that second tier in the East or over. Who
else did they got? Uh Yeah, they got Bay Oh
(01:47:22):
and they signed Tias Jones as well, So you get
a little point guard help there, and then I had Atlanta.
Unfortunately they stocked up on the draft and and it
sucks because the Spurs still have that second Atlanta pick,
which is looking worse and worse now because Atlanta goes out.
Speaker 3 (01:47:43):
Man, I mean more bench.
Speaker 2 (01:47:44):
Well, it's it's just it's more ammunition. I mean just
in in general. Or Atlanta goes out, they do the
Porzingis trade, bring him in for practically nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:47:54):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:47:56):
Signed Luke Canard to a one year deal eleven million.
I think it was good shooting. Uh. And then they
still Alexander Walker from Minnesota because once Minnesota did the
Nas Reed and Julius Reid deals, that pretty much was
the riding on the wall Alexander Walker. So Atlanta I
think with the position they were in were It's kind
(01:48:19):
of the season for Trey Young to like, dude, if
you're gonna if you're gonna win, to very much less.
Speaker 3 (01:48:25):
Saying you've been chirping for the last two years, like
you want out now. Now you got your people, Let's
see what you can do now.
Speaker 2 (01:48:31):
If Porzingis misses sixty games again, I give Trey Young
a little bit of leniency there. Worst off season. I
would say, right now, we've talked the Pelicans to death, Okay,
we can we can leave that be because they had
the worst off season with just the trade they did
on Draft Night alone.
Speaker 3 (01:48:50):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
The Lakers, now with their turmoil not exactly sure the
Heat who had been the Heat were in the KD conversations,
didn't want to offer their guys.
Speaker 3 (01:49:00):
What about Phoenix. Sorry, I think.
Speaker 2 (01:49:02):
Phoenix is actually done considerably well for the position they found.
They made so many bad decisions to put themselves in
this position. They still Bradley Bill Bill, I think I
think they're going to have Bradley Bill. But also and
it's the worst contract, second worst contract in the league,
(01:49:23):
probably potentially behind Embiids just because EMBIID you can't you
can't blame. And then the Kings, the Kings continue to
just be a team, like giving Dennis Shrewder three years
forty five million dollars, what what are we doing?
Speaker 3 (01:49:41):
They got to give money to someone, They're like, we
gotta act like respect money.
Speaker 2 (01:49:45):
Don't have to because the problem now is you've committed
fifteen milli a season for the next three years.
Speaker 3 (01:49:53):
To sitting there trying to sell season ticket holders, like, hey,
we have a shot this year.
Speaker 2 (01:49:59):
Look like the Beam forever. But if I'm a Sacramento citizen,
Dennis Shrewder on a three year deal doesn't get me
to run out and buy tickets. That just that's not
doing much.
Speaker 3 (01:50:09):
Beam is going to be permanently turned off sooner or later.
Speaker 2 (01:50:12):
And then it's we're getting close. And then Bucks Pacers
I had as a combo because the Pacers are going
to do a gap year, but losing Miles Turner when
you gave nim Hard the extension last year, and now
you're in a position where if you had resigned Turner,
you would have been in the tax in a year
where Halliburton they just I think they mismanaged their books.
Speaker 3 (01:50:32):
Yeah, well they didn't expect Haliburton to go down.
Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
Of course, and I think that's the that's the worst.
But they still would have been in the I think
they would have if Halliburton hadn't gotten injured. I think
they would have re signed Miles Turner and paid the
luxury tax. But now they're like, oh, this is kind
of our off ramp.
Speaker 3 (01:50:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:50:49):
And then finally I had Brooklyn because Brooklyn could have
had upwards of seventy to ninety million dollars in cap space.
They are the only team that could have offered a
max contract to a free Granted, there's no free agents
that are worthy of a max contract, but Brooklyn before
(01:51:11):
they did the trades on draft night to assume a
man's deal and now Michael Porter Junior, they could have
offered Josh Giddy an offer sheet. They could have offered
Santi Aldama an offer sheet that would have made the
Grizzlies life really difficult to match. They could have been
(01:51:32):
the kings of the market. They could have been the
team that held all the cards. But instead you now
have Michael Porter Junior and a Terrence Man and five
first round draft picks that you made in this draft
where you drafted two point guard like Brooklyn is. Brooklyn
(01:51:53):
is quickly becoming the what the hell are we doing? Team?
Speaker 3 (01:51:56):
Like? It doesn't make any run.
Speaker 2 (01:51:58):
It's not the Russian anymore, but Russians apparently, it's it's
not anyone much better. Well that I keep saying it.
I think until we get news of a Lebron trade,
that should be our last NBA segment for a while.
Speaker 3 (01:52:12):
Souk NFLS.
Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
Yeah, starting starting Monday, we'll be doing our NFL divisional previews.
So put a bow on the NBA for now.
Speaker 3 (01:52:27):
I still think, yeah, still we're gonna I think before
if there's something good, we might might hit it in
the lightning round.
Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
I still think we might get some NBA guard I
like it. I think we might get some NBA news.
Speaker 3 (01:52:41):
Here's one to all the tani slurpers. Oh, he reached
one hundred and one miles per hour.
Speaker 2 (01:52:47):
I think it was actually one hundred and two.
Speaker 3 (01:52:48):
It was one hundred and one point seven in which routes,
So we.
Speaker 2 (01:52:52):
Don't round in baseball, Well, we don't call it one
hundred and one if it's one hundred and one hundred seven.
Speaker 3 (01:52:58):
No, See, this is slur It's either you need a slurper.
Speaker 2 (01:53:01):
I'm sorry, where is that Dodger Blue a slurper? A slurper?
Because we're seeing a guy hit thirty home runs before
the All Star break and throw his arm already broke
down and throw one hundred and one point seven.
Speaker 3 (01:53:13):
He hasn't reached thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:53:14):
I just did today or yeh, last night I think
it was. I think it was last night.
Speaker 3 (01:53:19):
No one needs, no one man? Why you bet on baseball?
Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
Why? What is the Is it just the Yankees Dodgers
rivalry because he's only been a Dodger for two years?
Did you hate o'tanni like this when he was on
the helpless Angels? Okay? So it is just Dodgers. Okay,
that's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (01:53:37):
The fact that you went to a team that was
already stacked with m vps. This is the equippment. Has
Mookie Bets coming from what team?
Speaker 2 (01:53:45):
Boston?
Speaker 3 (01:53:45):
Hate that? Yeah, Freeman, don't mind nobody, He's really really good.
Speaker 2 (01:53:51):
He's an MVP here came from it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:53):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:53:54):
You have anything against the Braves? You hate TBS, you
hate Ted Turner?
Speaker 3 (01:53:57):
Okay, I actually actually love Tom Glavin dogmatics back in
the day, you know they were they were a little
whipping boy.
Speaker 2 (01:54:03):
What about Mark?
Speaker 3 (01:54:04):
What about Smolts Small.
Speaker 2 (01:54:10):
Now, I look, I understand. I think the biggest the
biggest story that has got swept under the rug is
is the gambling aspect of it.
Speaker 3 (01:54:19):
The gambling killed me.
Speaker 2 (01:54:20):
I feel about Otani the same way I felt about Like.
I never hated Kobe because he was great because of
the like, very very rarely are there players that I
like I hated playing them against I hated the Lakers.
I hated like Kobe the player. That's I turned the
(01:54:42):
TV on to watch that. I turned the TV on
to watch Otani.
Speaker 3 (01:54:46):
So like, I don't like the Dodgers and all the
other greatness that's on the team. They also have, like,
but is so.
Speaker 2 (01:54:52):
Different than guys o. Tawni is different from anyone we've
seen since Babe ruth Man.
Speaker 3 (01:54:58):
The Yankees are the evil empire. The evil empire that's
in l A now. Now, we don't get the same
hate that we have for the No, I'm missing on
the fact of like, why is Dodgers getting all the love?
Why is there so many slurpers out there, you know,
(01:55:18):
giving this man all the love and being like, oh
Toni's so great. He just he basically Lebron over to Miami.
Speaker 2 (01:55:26):
Yeah, and guess not, do we not?
Speaker 3 (01:55:29):
Did we hate all Lebron for that?
Speaker 2 (01:55:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:55:31):
But you know, but we don't do it for Otani,
who gambled on baseball. You know what, I know, the
old school at journalist who bagged on Pete Rose.
Speaker 2 (01:55:40):
I like to watch the Gus peace key their sport. Like, yeah,
I hated Lebron doing the decision with a live ESPN
broadcast to announce he's taking his talents to South Beach.
But guess what those ali with Lebron and d where.
Speaker 3 (01:55:59):
I hated it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:00):
I hated it. Hit me, LG.
Speaker 1 (01:56:03):
I'm ready to plow.
Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
We got we got to get into this. Uh. I
mentioned it earlier. We had murder on the north side.
I saw that, Yes, Hi, how did McManus phrase it?
High profile?
Speaker 3 (01:56:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:56:20):
The ron Acosta, the founder of Los Palapa, stabbed to
death by what turns out to be his thirty nine
year old nephew, who LG. You were giving me some
details earlier. I know you're up to speed. Correct me
if I leave anything out. So thirty nine year old nephew,
David Reese, drives from California to San Antonio. His Ruiza's
(01:56:46):
dad in California is saying his son is having a
mental breakdown, hasn't slept for four hasn't slept for four days,
has a well that one checks out, has been having hallucinations,
has been telling people that someone's out to kill him,
has been telling people his dad's already dead, and then
(01:57:11):
apparently made contact with a ron Acosta's son, which would
be his cousin, said come to Texas, come stay with me,
and for what somehow we get from their son is
what I want is here. I think they're about the
same age, No, I think a little. I think a
little older. I believe I think that's closer to the
(01:57:33):
same age as Ruiz.
Speaker 3 (01:57:34):
Because they got in a fight and they just like,
I'm like, because the dad probably was like this guy
as high as a kite, what is he doing here
in my house?
Speaker 2 (01:57:50):
You know, there's so many I think we're gonna get.
I think we're gonna get some. I think we're gonna
get more details that explain it. He was as because
it does. But it doesn't like when you like you
you know that you see that. So if you're them like,
it doesn't sound like it was like like it from
the way it's being reported right now, it sounded like
(01:58:13):
it was good. And then he snapped like it wasn't
like he was like tweaked out when he walked in
kind of deal or anything like that.
Speaker 3 (01:58:21):
Well, that's that's all you freak out. Freak out, man.
Speaker 2 (01:58:25):
Trust me, I've got umber cousins on the federal payroll
in federal housing in Louisiana from Oklahoma that to North
Texas basically southern Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (01:58:43):
Yeah, so like it's when you up for high. Like
I may or may not have had a friend who
had a whole apartment locked down because he was high
on meth in speed for four days and said, pirates
are gonna come and kick kill me because they think
I have their gold and says I have I have
(01:59:06):
a hostage.
Speaker 2 (01:59:07):
Look, I have a hostage.
Speaker 3 (01:59:08):
So they shut the whole building down of this apartment
complex and there was nobody in there, and then his
rich daddy sits there and be like, oh, it was
that and he was just on ambient and gets off
from the whole thing. And minus this is the guy
who's also drove through a hotel building on a work
trip from minor details window like that or his own company.
Speaker 2 (01:59:32):
Like nothing is funny about addiction.
Speaker 3 (01:59:35):
No, nothing is funny, but like hold on until it's funny.
Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
Nothing is funny about the actual addiction. But some of
the things that methads end up doing in the throes
of addiction.
Speaker 3 (01:59:48):
Why do you think breaking Bad was so good? I mean, like, oh, pinkman,
not laugh, I'm just digging this hole.
Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
Are about just warm your apartment? That's funny, that's funny
I got.
Speaker 3 (02:00:02):
And we know this dude, like he was a good
friend and like and he's like, but he was an
habitual line stepper. But you know, there was also this
infomercial where it was like meth, I got the clean
his house on the block, myth And they played this
like right at school peak cartoon time, and it was
(02:00:25):
like right when I this, this is total like late eighties,
early nineties, I got the bugs crawing all over my skinned, myth.
And there's this lady freaking out, hallucinating, getting all these
like little scratch marks like they have on their arms
and stuff, and it's all it's like, don't do meth. Kids.
Speaker 2 (02:00:41):
Look, there's a lot of drugs, like OLG.
Speaker 3 (02:00:45):
If you do a deep dive and find that commercial
for me, I love you forever.
Speaker 2 (02:00:47):
There's a lot of drugs. Like when you see someone
smoking weed in a movie, it looks cool, like if
you're a kid, when you're a kid, you see someone
doing that, it's partying, like it's it looks cool. Yeah,
very few times has meth ever looked cool, Like it's
trash from the beginning to the end.
Speaker 3 (02:01:06):
Wherever that takes you like it if you want to
go on that.
Speaker 2 (02:01:08):
Yeah, yeah, that's a good one. Yeah, that is a
good one.
Speaker 3 (02:01:10):
Hit me lg oh.
Speaker 2 (02:01:14):
Indeed, come on now, Spurs, we're gonna save the Keith
Hernandez and Phil Mickelson audio because we can do that.
A Monday in the Lightning Round quick soccer update we
mentioned at the top of the show, US survives two
to one against Guatemala. Right now Mexico is staring at
a scoreless first half against to be a gimme, yeah,
(02:01:37):
I want. I mean, it's been a while since we've
gotten to see a USA Mexico final because the USA
has been uh falling short as as Canada had kind
of passed them in the pecking order at least in
some ways. Hearing Conca calf but uh, second half a
head from Mexico now zero zero still against ton Duras
(02:02:01):
and then Club World Cup. Man, I don't it wasn't
last night. I guess it was Monday night when Al
Halal the Saudi Arabian team that match against Man's unfortunate
that match against Man.
Speaker 3 (02:02:17):
But it's a drop.
Speaker 2 (02:02:22):
Okay, yeah, let's go. That was a drop. It's unfortunate.
Speaker 3 (02:02:24):
I laughed.
Speaker 2 (02:02:27):
Good in time. Uh that that match was awesome. I mean,
Man City ends up losing as a great uh stepping
stone for you know, the Saudi Arabian League. But the
back and forth and that that's the best match of
the Club World Cup we've seen yet. Uh as it
kind of starts to round into its final stages. Uh,
(02:02:49):
we're actually getting.
Speaker 3 (02:02:51):
Houston's getting that game the final.
Speaker 2 (02:02:54):
Yeah, the very the final final.
Speaker 3 (02:02:56):
We'll see.
Speaker 2 (02:02:56):
Yeah. Quarters, we got flumin Ec versus Alhalal, then Palmyras
versus Chelsea PSG Byron, which is really like Chelsea should
be in this final if they can just beat a
couple Brazilian clubs, but Byron PSG and then Dortmund Real
Madrid on the other side of the bracket, and we
(02:03:17):
will close out. Hit me one more time, LG.
Speaker 1 (02:03:21):
I've fallen and I can get out.
Speaker 2 (02:03:24):
There's an old commercial for you. We'll close out with
some Dallas news. Here Stars hire a new head coach,
Glenn Gulletson retread higher. He was their head coach from
like twenty eleven to twenty thirteen.
Speaker 3 (02:03:36):
Old time hockey.
Speaker 2 (02:03:37):
Yeah, it's not too inspiring, but I will say, do
you remember how dangerous that Edmonton Oiler's power play has been?
The last three years. Sure, let's answer yes, yes exactly,
because Glenn Gulletson has been their power play coach in Edmonton,
so maybe that'll help. But Star our stars have been
(02:04:01):
doing some other good bit. Jamie ben Re signs one year,
one million dollars. Takes a cheap deal. But the other
Dallas news that came out LG you have this trailer.
Speaker 3 (02:04:11):
Oh my god. I was like, man, don't ruin it.
Speaker 2 (02:04:14):
Listen, You're about to get an opportunity where you and
I are on the same page.
Speaker 3 (02:04:20):
Just we're on the same page. Let as Cowboys suck. No, no,
they suck.
Speaker 2 (02:04:25):
I'm sorry. Which has your team been to a Super
Bowl more recently than the Cowboys or won a Super.
Speaker 3 (02:04:36):
Just keep that picture of that confidence right there, that
smirky Dallas face.
Speaker 2 (02:04:44):
That's the last Dallas thing I've maybe ever done.
Speaker 1 (02:04:50):
It's never paid, It's always paid with peaks in Alli.
Speaker 2 (02:05:01):
There's a soap op for three hundred and sixty five
days a year. No, it should be a flipping football
so God could watch his favorite team, the Camoy the
Cowboys team. I was Darth Vader. Dallas fans aren't happy.
Last year there were one fifteen I said that I
(02:05:22):
don't know anything about running a football team, and he
sucked me the eye.
Speaker 3 (02:05:26):
And he said, Michael, we will gambling my family's whole fortune.
So I had to take risks.
Speaker 2 (02:05:31):
And it started to Johnson. So Charlotte, that's Charlotte Bridges,
his daughter talking about I had to I told daddy
I don't know a thing about running a football team,
and he looked me in my eye and said, I
don't either. What the hell are we doing here? Play it?
(02:05:52):
Play the film now. I do love that, heal.
Speaker 3 (02:06:01):
So the game is heavy.
Speaker 2 (02:06:04):
We were ready, don't time.
Speaker 3 (02:06:09):
All of a sudden there was a runaway train.
Speaker 2 (02:06:11):
Oh everywhere we went, they were icons. We played hard
and then we played hard.
Speaker 3 (02:06:20):
Of what that says?
Speaker 2 (02:06:22):
The white should also get disruption. The police of ham
in me and they pulled the gun.
Speaker 3 (02:06:28):
Put it right now, Jerry, is that disruptor, that innovator.
You're not much of a gambo. I'm you're coming against
a popular trend. No one ever thought Jerry had to
yet the fire.
Speaker 2 (02:06:40):
I mean, you don't know half the stuff that was happening.
Speaker 3 (02:06:44):
Playing for the Cowboys. It's different. The most valuable sports
franchise in the world, no.
Speaker 2 (02:06:51):
Matter what they say. They can't prepare.
Speaker 3 (02:06:54):
You just got to experience it. Thing else I got
to say is how about.
Speaker 2 (02:07:03):
Wait baby, Look, I can't help it. The goosebuks are real.
I can't help it. I'm an addict. I'm an addict
waiting for the fish done. No, no, no, we're gonna
go another hour take off Monday.
Speaker 3 (02:07:18):
Man. Look, that's a great documentary that's been done eighteen times.
Speaker 2 (02:07:23):
Of course it has.
Speaker 3 (02:07:25):
And guess what I watched eighteen I'm still talking about Jimmy.
Speaker 2 (02:07:29):
And I'm about to talk.
Speaker 3 (02:07:29):
I'm about talking about nineteen.
Speaker 2 (02:07:31):
It's one of them. If they actually do talk more
about the White House and the off the field.
Speaker 3 (02:07:38):
And thinking like, who's got the final rights of the
say in this? Yeah, how much do you think they're
gonna talk about it?
Speaker 2 (02:07:45):
Enough where he won't catch blowback for not talking about it,
but not nearly enough to actually hold my interest.
Speaker 3 (02:07:52):
I want to watch him going at the producers in
the director of this thing, like, I don't know if
you want watch the Peewee. Oh yeah, He's like, I
want to direct my own documentary and he's like, no, no,
you can't do that. Well, they didn't have they didn't
have the same They didn't have the same That director
(02:08:14):
didn't have the same balls as that documentary documentary documentarian.
Speaker 1 (02:08:20):
There you go, documentary filmmaker.
Speaker 3 (02:08:23):
Documentary filmmaker as this person, because I guarantee you he
just gobbled Jerry's nuts the whole time.
Speaker 2 (02:08:29):
Oh, I think that's a thought. And they're also paying him. Well,
it was like fifty million or something stupid for the
rights to do this. So yeah, it's gonna be all
of that. But guess what, buddy, it's the Cowboys and
I'll be watching. We will report vigorously. Hey, how hopefully
how bad it is, I'll watch it. I really like,
I'll give it. I'll give it from one to five pukes. Okay,
(02:08:53):
that's fair. I was gonna say from one to five farts,
so we'll take I.
Speaker 3 (02:08:58):
Threw over my mouth a little bit watching the trailer. Dude,
I think it's already got half a puke. Yeah, you're alright,
already half a puke in the gag reflex.
Speaker 2 (02:09:06):
Has already hitting well on that note, Hopefully this episode
wasn't half a puke's worth of content.
