The weekend recap is full of surprises: LG shares his less-than-thrilling experience watching the Canelo fight, while Cap delivers a passionate Yankee Minute, singing the praises of Aaron Judge and previewing a high-stakes showdown with the Padres. The crew also dives into 80s movie nostalgia, the heartbreak of lost childhood toys, and the most overused Ninja Turtles meme on social media.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
I think the Kings fire. I think when they cleaned
house and got rid of a head coach GM, I
think they fired the guy. They called him the bean squad,
the guy that came up with squad, the guy that
came up with the light, the beam bit, the uh,
the originator.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Of smoking some bean.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Look, hey, all I'm.

Speaker 3 (01:12):

Boom goes yeah, the boom goes down and that poor kid.
Look he all he was ever doing was trying to
get some tape out there. He was trying to become
a better broadcast.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
He was he was channeling his inner Chris Berman.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Dude, you know, well, if you're gonna channel and enter
Chris Berman, you gotta have something resembling an inner Chris Berman.
And I think that was his biggest problem that one. No,
as always, I am joined here by the crew, by
the boys. Cap across from me LG in a room.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
We got Greg on the chat already.

Speaker 3 (02:06):

the NBA Draft Lottery.

have a lot of Spurs talk in the main segment today.
Obviously the news Spurs did the press conference this morning's let's.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Trying to get that YouTube money.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah, while we were on the topic, we'll just take
care of some housekeeping at the top here I mentioned
we're gonna talk a lot of spurs in the main segment.
Of course, we'll get to our lightning round at the end,
and since it is Monday night, start with a little
weekend recap, but some housekeeping at the top.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
First of all, happy sinco demayo he.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Is it's not the Spanish equisition. I found them playing
What are you going with this?

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Are you about to sing a metal Brooks.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
In a stances. Yes, freedom, this is their fourth of July.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah, it's the defeat the French at the Battle of Pueblo.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Americans can take their land.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Well, give it time.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
I immediately woke up wondering to myself, how does Wimby
feel about Cinco de Maya.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Of French heritage?

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Like do the French French? Do the French and save
you again in w W two in their.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Like elementary history lessons in their classroom? Do they despise
the Do they look on the Battle of Puebla as
a national moment of uh, you know, French embarrassment or
you know, like thinking about.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
I think they were more concentrating concreting over in Europe.
Is that Napoleon days? Because I mean the Louisiana purchase
seems like the French didn't really care about, you know,
the Midwest.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
They were highly invested in, uh in the so what
would become the Southern United States? I of course, you know,
on the it feels it feels very cheap to Sinco
de Mayo to have it the day after Fiesta ends.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah, because it kind of.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Feels I mean, we've had two weeks of partying.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Do they do?

Speaker 1 (05:12):
They do that on purpose? Like and the last day
is sinkle demayo for the siesta, the day of rest.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
No, but that would be perfect. I think it can
only work out that way.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Uh, every every seven years something like that.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Yeah, but no housekeeping here at the top. Besides Cinco
de Mayo and my friend Roach's birthday, it also caps
recent birthday a couple of days ago, yesterday.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Keep you guessing, keep you guessing. Shah.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yeah. Now now you can just need the last four
of us social and you can get everything.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
No house you can take my crippling debt.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
We have been teasing, uh, the fact that this is
a soft opening of the program here. I think we're
ready to open up a little bit more to the
public starting this week.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Yeah, we have.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
We have been talking amongst ourselves as the brain trust here.
I think we're ready to roll out some Wednesday night
live shows.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah, especially during this playoff season. Man, the playoffs have
been real good.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Great for a casual, Yeah, great for a if you
don't have a dog in the you know, Spurs fan
doesn't care who's you know? Besides the emotions of who
you are going to root for between the Rockets and
the Warriors. You hate them both, but you know, for
the casual basketball and hockey fan, the playoffs the first
round was amazing.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, well, we'll talk a little bit about.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
That in the light round.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
But what's the what's the nixt Boston? That classic series?

Speaker 2 (06:41):
It was at.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Halftime right before we went on here. I would expect
that one to be a long one. But main takeaway
here I expect to see us Monday and Wednesday nights
live going forward.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Here on YouTube eighty to eighty four Boston. But we're
in the fourth quarter. Yeah, I keep you update on
that one.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
We're going to We're gonna talk part of the main
segment obviously a lot of pop, but also I wanted
to revisit some of my preseason over under predictions looked
I went back.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
I have three of my notebooks here.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
So you can tell see you write it down. I
like to just be like, no, I said that, I
said that they are going to be over you.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
You did.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
It.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
So I had it on tape and we'll revisit some
of those as well as a bit of the you know,
preseason predictions, player awards, stuff like that will burn through
those in the main segment, but shout.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Out to Tammy and Rob on the chat.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
As always Monday nights, we start with a little bit
of a weekend recap, and I'm I'm going to admit
something to you boys.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
I'm a bit ashamed of my weekend recap, so I'm
not going first. Yes, I'm saving. I need to hear.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
I need to at least to get a I need
a baseball minute or something to cleanse my palate before
I go.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Would like tell me something OLG did say y'all keep
deferring to me for everything, because did someone send you
something to pull up a clip? Was that you might
have done that? Is this what you're okay? I thought
we were doing. We were yelling at me just like
five minutes ago. You didn't let me let me see what?

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Do we have hostility amongst them?

Speaker 1 (08:27):
I was so sure of himself and I'm like, I'm
looking at it right.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
Because, Yeah, the last thing you sent me was at
one thirty three am. It says one want to do
a podcast after dark and I was asleep.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
That was Saturday night.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Yeah, what was the time stamp on that text message?

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Again? One three am?

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Something I've learned about.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Hey, I love I love the night. The other morning
I woke up to it. I woke up and was
looking at my phone and I think I correct me
if I'm wrong. I think I received a text message
from you at four oh six, Oh yeah, with a
suggestion you were talking about Oh man, we forgot to
mention this on the draft episode. It was something that

(09:06):
had something some other talking point.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Dude, I watch like old eighties movies, and I think
I was watching Masters of the Universe and something just
popped in my hair. Oh sweet, off Lundron. But movie
itself is terrible. I mean, it's it's a play that
little that little dude. I wanted one of those so.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Bad Yeah, you literally you play, you get to play
the instrument they teach you in elementary school.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
It's so badass.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Look, I I was I was raised, you know, born
in the mid eighties, forced to watch a lot of
bad eighties movies as a kid. They're just there, aren't
There aren't many that hold up? Okay, yeah, if we
if we're gonna start bad mouth.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
And bad mouth Masters of the Universe, you know, never
ending story goes in that one. Well, it's just a
bad story. Compare the Masters of the used Universe needs
to be hell on Earth. I will never forget my
mom giving all my Masters Universe toys away for ten dollars.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Oh it was a bucket because you did something bad
or no. Yeah, yeah, And I was like.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
So where's my stuff?

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (10:22):
That stuff went really fast. We sold the we made.
I'm like, you didn't sell my figurines, did you?

Speaker 6 (10:28):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Yeah, we sold those first.

Speaker 5 (10:29):
And I'm like, of course, you say it all my
he man, all my Ninja turtles, all my musclemen.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Man, speaking of play with your musclemans, speaking.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Of Ninja turtles.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Most overused meme on social media today the Master Splinter
walking with the adolescent Ninja turtles and then the old
Ninja turtles walking aging elderly Master Splinter.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
Did y'all not.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
See it's the classic Ninja Turtles me where it's like
he raised them and then they are taking care of him.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
It was not a funny one very much. The you
raise you so you can take care of it, timmy
mon and pop.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
I was like, what is this relevant?

Speaker 4 (11:20):
No?

Speaker 1 (11:21):
No, no, no. That was the most Did your grandma
have a birthday? It got a lot of people.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
It got a lot of people's social media points today.
I saw it used quite quite a bit.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Did you want me to pull that clip up?

Speaker 5 (11:33):
Apparently, apparently before you sent me that drunk text, you
said you told me to.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Pull one of the funniest things ever. Okay, as presidential
nauh of presidential candidate, I think he's still running with it.
One loud stephen A. Smith and I saw the funniest
thing you can tell. You can tell this is Oh

(12:04):
he's feeling he's feeling himself right now. Look at this.
Oh he's gonna shut that door.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
He thinks he's killers a little w D fourty on
that door.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Work a little bit better. Oh, look he's checking out
her ass.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Oh he pulls a gun.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Really, he pulls a gun and caps it. That was
what are you doing? What is that?

Speaker 6 (12:28):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (12:29):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (12:29):
General hospital? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (12:30):
General hospital?

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Are they ABC?

Speaker 3 (12:32):
I'm guessing so that's the cross over here. It's gotta
be Disney ABC ESP.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
So I see this. I see this on like I
don't know AB, based on like one o'clock at night,
and I'm like, pull this clip so I won't forget.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
These are these are the things you get on our
on our group message threads. General Hospital highlights and and
me sending LG video of a dude allowing himself to
get bit by snakes.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Yeah, that that was That was That was the argument
the weekend. I was like, did you pull the clip?
You didn't tell me you pull a clip? I said,
pull a clip? And of course you can't pull YouTube clips.
And I need to I need to make a Twitter.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
See, this is why we have LD. He understands the rules.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
I got Instagram the Captain two on. Oh hey, you
can look at my four pictures.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Yeah, well that's four more than I have.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Uh, we need someone to have a significant Instagram presence, LG.
You got anything else from the weekend? Uh?

Speaker 1 (13:36):
I went out on Saturday. Oh and where where pray Tell?
I went and watched the fight. Oh it was awful, Yeah,
doing the Mayweather's tap and tap back and way back
and the way back to the poor choice. But now
the super fight with him and Crawford's coming right, Yeah,

(13:56):
it was. It was funny how they brought Crawford out.
I guess that's what they do. Now.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
As soon as the match ends, you're staring down your
next in the ring is w Yeah, it's shout out
the Saudi Arabia where they had the fight. But you
see all the cheeks in the audience, like with their falcons.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
On their shoulders, like how do you how do you
floss in the like you know, the chic outfit. I'm
gonna it's like this is a thousand thread crown, Egyptian coddon.
They look man, man, this man.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Yeah, that's correct.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Tell me it doesn't look badass seeing a sheet get
out of like a Bugatti or you know, some sick ass.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
And try to ghost ride the women they get flung out.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
I kind of I kind of think, I kind of
think I'm on the opposite end of this. I kind
of think it's bad ass, Like I that's one of
I actually am somewhat envious of being able to be
that badass in a full outfit. There you go, Cap,
you got a I would assume, as always on the weekends,

(15:09):
you spent a good amount of time watching baseball.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Oh yes, yes, man, alright, let's get it with the
Yankee deep breath, Yankee minutes. We have the greatest player
in baseball to speak of for the past three years.
When Aaron Judge Hard, still hitting a solid four thirty eight,

(15:32):
hit his eleventh home run he's only one back from
the leader. He leads in RBIs, he leads an average
by least eighty points. We only got to We still
have a problem with you know, starting pitching still needs help.
We went we went one for two, so we're batting
doing five hundred. But we are playing the San Diego

(15:55):
Dot San Diego Padres, which are red hot right now,
and we're up two oh and on rain delay. So
that's gonna be a that's gonna be a series Tattoos
versus Judge. Tattoos is leading the n L in batting
average while Judge is leading the AL in batting average.
So this is a solid group. And then we go

(16:18):
to a West coast.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Then we go to the West coast and I think
we're going with the athletics first, but we're going to
do our West coast trip over there. And shout out
to you, Patty, I'm wearing my ac Milan if you
can see it, ac Milan cross with the Yankees.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Okay, a couple, that's a good one. First of all,
what's that massive pet? You want to touch the b
I'm good, I don't need to touch the massive pet.
Peeve having team apparel that is specifically in a color
that has nothing.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
To do with your team. Staring at that red Yankees hat,
trust me, drives me insane.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
It just it.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
It trips my brain up because I see the logo
and then I just see all red.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
Now, if the Bosox are doing good, I can't wear
this hat like it's unlike the bow Sox or the Cardinals.
Because I have a friend who's a huge Cardinals fan.
Shout out to Eric and he lets me steal his
MLB pass that I watch every day. But the best
kind of friends. Guess guess who's not doing too good?
The old Red Sox, Well, they might.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
They might be on the path to getting to getting
right because they had they host the Rangers for a
four game series starting tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
I'm gonna make sure your team needs to pull together.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
They made some moves. I'm gonna mention them in the
lightning round.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
But I teased, I told you before the show, I
have a good baseball stat for you. So you mentioned
the two hitting leaders in the al NL. Judge Tatis,
First of all, I don't think many people would have
expected the Padres to be doing I mean, they're good,

(17:57):
a good team, but being the Marquee match up out
of that division.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
For the past three years. They they've been dealing. They
dealt with injuries last year, but they've had a win
win now mentality and the past they started with the
shadow ended with tattoos. They sitting there grabbing up pictures.
They have the talent to run. Maybe not with the
Dodgers because they're just stupid right now. Yeah, but they

(18:25):
have the power, they have the players, they have the pieces.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
So speaking of the players, you mentioned the best hitters
in both leagues going up against each other.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
M hm.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
So in baseball this season, offense is way down. The
offensive numbers are way way down.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
And this static pictures contract here.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
So this is what really kind of opened my eyes.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Like you hear people say, oh, offense is down, you know,
numbers are blah blah blah, but you don't. It's hard
to process what that means historically. Yeah, So the worst
offensive team in Basel in the year two thousand and six,
so basically twenty seasons.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Again, let me see if I can call it. Let
me see if I can call it. So we got
I'm gonna put Pirates up there.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
Pittsburgh Pirates number one, led by uh Canadian Jason Bay.
He was the anchor of their lineup. Good player, good hitter.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
So they were the worst offensive team in baseball in six.
If their numbers the numbers they put up in six,
if they were doing that so far this season, their
team batting average of two sixty three would be first
in all of baseball.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Get out.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
The worst offensive team from two thousand and six would
have the best team batting average of any team this season.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Man, crazy, I don't want to believe that. That's crazy.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
It's they're on base plus would be thirteenth, so they'd
still be middle of the road. Slugging would be eleventh,
ops would be eleventh. How so, it's offense has gotten
that bad as a team.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
I mean, there's an individuals team, tons of home runs,
they're stealing bases that they've made the bases bigger. They
stopped they stopped the ultra shift.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
So maybe we're getting a swing back in the right direction.
But this year they're historically low. To make it even worse.
In six, that season, there were thirty eight players who
finished with a batting average above three hundred. Last year
there were seven. Right man, so we all talk about
how it feels like baseball is in a much better

(20:40):
place overall.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
Because it is you had back then, they were still
hitting hit they weren't hitting their home run.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
Yeah, it wasn't a it wasn't a all or nothing approach.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
It's like it went oh for four as long as
you got that home run once every three games, right,
you know, with pretty crazy with analys that's wow. When
I saw that, I was now as sad that I
would like to know.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
That was also compliments of Bobby belt On on social.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Thank you, Bobby, uh, one of my favorite King of
the Hill characters.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Damn it, Bobby, that's my purse.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Anybody catches that reference, absolutely, I don't know. I want
to know at this point at this day, Like let's
go with May one, what was the lowest batting average.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Overall?

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Yeah? Yeah, I wonder if it's just the beginning of
the year, Shake's pictures coming in dominating and then it's
going to average out.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
I think you can only go with that for so long. Eventually,
there's got to be Eventually it's either the Nicks pulled
the head by three. Eventually it's either the expected average uh,
and that's just how things are going to be moving forward.
But when I saw that number, I knew that's wild.
I know, I knew it would shaky. And as the
Baseball three fifty, well, I mean again, all are a

(22:00):
team that is keeping the overall league average higher than
it really even should be.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
If you remove the outliers. It's way way work.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
To pass six to six to six d eight games.
We were we were averaging three plus runs a game.
Now we're averaging two plus runs, so we're actually in
a mini slump.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
As a Ranger fan, I would kill for two plus
runs in a game. If we score two runs, we
win with the starting pitcher. Now, I'm going to talk
more Rangers in the Lightning round. I guess I will
get first of all, some follow up from last Weekends
weekend recup. I talked about that bar Soft opening we
went to. Yeah, so I'm reaching into my pocket right now.

(22:41):
This is the first time I've worn you might see
the portal.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
It's the first time I've worn these genes since I
was out last weekend. I found this in the pocket.
Oh it was a Palomino. That was the name of
the I had.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
I had multiple people asking which bar it was we
went to, and I can't get I couldn't remember the
name of the place.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Uh, and eventually asked.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
The roommate and she remembered, and she's been showing me.
She put she got one of these same stickers, put
it on her laptop.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Immediately loved it. It's cool design.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Apparently I got one as well, and it's been in
my pocket of my jeans since the night I.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Walked out of that jeans.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
No God, no jeans need to be watched like once
a month to because they're d them. You're not wearing
them in regard anyway.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
I'm a messy eater. I just I suppose Okay, you
mentioned that messy eater. I'll tell you why I was
ashamed to go first.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
I have.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Also, these are skinny jeans, and I was wearing the
last weekend. They felt great at Palomino. This weekend not
so much, Buddy, not so much.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
I have the Final Fiesta food count as well as
I can remember lace.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
It's not good. It's not good fellas the carnival where
I live. The carnival is literally a two block walk.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
And so surrounded by all those carnies.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
There were knights, there were nights.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Over the last ten days, there were less nights where
we didn't go to the carnival than we did so,
I mean we went like eight of the ten knights
just to not to ride any rides.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
Steph got a couple like air brushed white tea's that are.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
Pretty Do you have like a stack of ticket or
do you have to just pay with money? Now? Food?

Speaker 2 (24:43):
You pay with money? Alright, So final count, oh Man,
seven funnel cakes.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
That's a lot of dope.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Three pretzels, deep fried pretzels, a good pretzel. Three chili
cheese dogs. Hey god, Two fried cheese on a stick.
And I'm just talking about a mozzarella stick as big
as a chimmy, just on a stick.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
They're just cutting it from a cheese blood.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
It's it's it's got the like it's got the same
like pancake batter.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
It's like funnel cake batter around fried cheese.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Oh you didn't say it was funnel cake fried cheese.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
That's the highlight. That's the highlight of the count. Two
fried cheese on a stick, two orders of flout does,
one Korean corn dog, and one bucket of cheese fries.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
A bucket, a bucket, a bucket, a full a full
on bucket, of what was that show that would like
always show Parks and Wreck where it was always like
now you can come by and get the mega mega.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
So it got you mentioned the it got sweet on. Yeah,
the Candy Corporation.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Diabetes has skyrocketed in in this room.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
You mentioned the Carneyes. It got so bad the carney started.
They they knew us by like last night when we
went no No, But they're like, they're like, hey, good
to see y'all again, just.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Like the friendly folks. Oh okay, they're friendly folks. No,
I can not.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
I totally agree, and I have anecdotal proof to testify
to that.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
For those that have been listening, uh for a while.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Now, you're familiar with my neighbor Jose h over there
in the neighborhood.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
And Jose is a good definition of a good dude.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
He I mentioned to him how because he walked over
to the carnival with us a couple of nights, and
I mentioned to him how, in another world, like a
hippie getting on Timothy Leary's bus, I would absolutely want
to work the Carnival will circuit just one time, Oh
my god, just to live that life, just to rob.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Those poor kids and see their just disappointed face. You're
sitting their age. You're like, you're sitting there making it
slippery on the bottles and knowing that the basketball can
only go in ninety nine point nine percent of the time.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Oh, you're never winning the games.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
Yeah, no, no, no, you know I actually made a
basketball on that heavy backspin, bounced around like four times,
made it big ass stuff to animals.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
I'm sure the guy was as surprised.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
Yeah, it was that Marley Fest. I was like, oh,
the backspin.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
Yeah, I uh so. My buddy Jose, when I mentioned
that to him, I was like, you know, maybe even
if I don't even.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
If I don't go work the circuit, it would be
fun to be like a you know, Hunter S. Thompson
Gonzo journalists and embed yourself with them and just tell
that story.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
She's got to be watched.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
It's got to be like high school click groups, you know.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
Okay, So it is so he uh, Jose worked the
circuit a few years with them because they go from
so they start.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
He was the newcomers.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
He was the lowest. It's a cast system. He's the
lowest on the TOTALI the green, the green.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
The green. Yeah, I he was a green leave. He had.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
They start in Poteite at the Strawberry festival, then they
do the Alamodome for Fiesta, and then they go out
to uh, you know Helotis uh and do the carnival
out there. Then they I think, then they make their
way over to Victoria. So he did that circuit a
couple of years in a row, and he said, he said,

(28:37):
it literally is it's a cast system, you know, like
the newcomers or uh they all have like communal trailers,
but the guys that have been doing it for years
have their own r V to themselves.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
It's like a camper, not an r V.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
But oh I had I had some friends do the
fireworks circuit, which is basically similar, Like I got to
go into the warehouse where it's just a warehouse full
of fireworks. Man gotta help. Hopefully the fire extinguishers work
on that one. But like you get to rent out,
like you don't get the good spots, You got to
go to this random one and like the first time

(29:12):
they're out there sleeping in their cars. The next year
they're sleeping in tents. And then they rented the r
V because they realize this was pretty like especially during
the January one h in January got cold and then
June you just sweating. You gotta have the ac life.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
I feel like.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
I feel like another similar circuit is like the Renaissance Fair.
People live on ground and.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Just fun and my own acts. I have some in
laws that are heavy LARPers.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Nothing nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
I'm joined a battle or two I.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Would I don't think I would participate.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
We got West, we got wes Harkins. Was I'm going
to be in g R this weekend. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
It was that it's Glenn Rose, Glenn Rose.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
Need need to bring back anything.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Maybe some of my grandpa's moonshine.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
I'll give you some of that apple pie, some of
that BlackBerry brandy.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
That's that's that's deep South Tennessee. It's it's apple pie
where I'm from now it uh. Besides the carnival, we
ended up going to the print fair at McNay on Sunday.
And as much as I love, I mean, you've seen
my house like the you know the cool Pixies printed,
you know, print screen concerts, Pumas Cave. I guess you

(30:41):
haven't yet. Yeah, you haven't made it because you're never downtown. Yeah,
the Sunday at the MCNAE, they had a h a
print fair. So it's a bunch of screen printing. And
I guess I should have known better. In my mind,
I'm thinking, like, oh, we can, you know, maybe go
snag like actually get something, get a nice still it's buddy.

(31:02):
But I picked one up and like I, I didn't
look at the price tag whatsoever. And it was kind
of it was in like a paper frame, so you
had to lift the paper up to see the price tag.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
And I turned to the roommate. I was like, Hey,
what do you think of this one? And she just
stared at me and I'm like, do you have an opinion?

Speaker 3 (31:21):
Like yes, no, and she's like have you even looked
at And I was like, I don't see there's on
I was like I thought we just bartered, Like I thought,
we're like we're just telling them me like hey, I
got I got fifty bucks, I'll give you half of that,
Like yeah, you.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Think you're on the streets in New Orleans they're all
just selling like uh no.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
In fact, I was in the middle of the McNee
and the one I held up was like twenty five
hundred dollars.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Yeah, I realized it was the streets of New Orleans
where it was like I went in the original picture,
this guy had it and it was like, man, it
was a beautiful picture. And I was like, how would
you selling that for? And he's like fifteen thousand dollars.
I was like you on the street man. I was like,
where's your leverage here?

Speaker 2 (32:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Were you waiting prints here for twenty dollars? And I
was like, it's quite bien. Give me the print. I
was like, I don't think I can talk you down
because I'm not going to pay over one thousand dollars
for this for even though it was a good he
did good work. And I will tell you a friend
of mine's wife, she she actually is a professor, I

(32:27):
believe over in uts a man. She does galleries and
she does hand drawn art. Oh yeah, she gets paid.
That is expensive work, but she puts like hundreds of hours.
And I was about to say, again, it's on hundreds
of hours, man, you're not.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
There's very few Andy Warhols out there that are just
hitting it rich without.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
Let me get this little stencil and just bone.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
Art is one of those things where I can't justify
pay paying for it myself. But I understand why people do.
You know, like it feels like there's a trade office.
Not for me, I'll stick with my like old school
Robert Summer's paintings of of the Brass and PILUXI But
uh so, that all in all, pretty quiet fiesta.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
There wasn't a whole.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Lot of like we didn't didn't hear much a lot
of shootings.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
No, not a there was.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
There was the one fight of the Edgars at Market,
but that was nothing. I mean even that was a
tame one.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
There wasn't There.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Wasn't hopping around jumping.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
In that being said, you mentioned ABC General Hospital. I look,
I understand, I'm in I understand I'm in the minority here.
I understand that the Flambeaux Parade is iconic. It needs

(33:54):
to be on ABC broadcast for three out. Let's do
a hour pregame before the parade even starts on case AT.
I understand, Yes, correct.

Speaker 1 (34:06):
Never watched it, and that's and that's why I bring
it up.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
Because Saturday night, the Dallas Stars played in a game seven.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Oh yeah, that was broadcast nationally on ABC.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
You don't did they put the parade over.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
You know where it wasn't broadcast on ABC, even though
this is technically a Dallas Stars viewing market, a home
viewing market.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
You know where it wasn't available on television. That's all
of San Antonio, Buddy.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Oh man, Yeah, so you got you gotta move up
your parade a game.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
Seven or maybe give me the game seven on a
sister channel or some kind of like you guys, how
much did you miss?

Speaker 1 (34:54):
Oh buddy? How much did people miss?

Speaker 2 (34:55):
I didn't watch. I'm not given ESPN thirteen dollars a
month for ESPN Plus.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
So I I swear I thought I'd watched some of
that game.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
Well, probably because someone had it on a ESPN Plus
or they had a oh yeah yeah, because it's technically
still and I joke, I mean I have so they
so they nixed the whole game. A game seven starts
as seven. Yeah, you know, I again, I get it.
I understand he's the four best sport. It's sport.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
I get it. And it's it's hockey versus Fiesta in
San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
I can understand it's hockey.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
I completely understand the logic behind it. But silver lining,
So what I did is I I do I'm a degenerate.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
I have a ESPN. Plus I hate myself. I hate
myself for giving them thirteen dollars a month.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
But I do.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
And the only reason I remembered I still do is
because I needed to watch the game on there. So
what I did I put the game on, muted it
and had the old school radio broadcast going, which I
will tell you, Yeah, there's you have. You can have
a there's a what's it called. It's like sink my

(36:13):
or something. There's a there's an app that does it
for you.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Just like everything everything these days. But science as a
long time you know two things as a long time
Stars fan, but more as a long time just radio
geek radio nerd it It was.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Kind of nicefreshment. They get hype, they get way more hype,
and we got to pass. We go going and we're
coming to the board, the board, and let me give
you some video evidence.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
So because the game was on ABC, uh the victory
plus the regional app that the Stars own didn't have
the right didn't carry the game because it was a national.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Broadcasts. But the play by play guys Josh.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
Bogarod and Razor and Darryl Razor, Ray still did the
game for the radio audience.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
But luckily, LG do you have this?

Speaker 3 (37:14):
Luckily the Stars play by play guy took video of
them calling the game Saturday night and the game was
first two periods Stars were outplayed. They're down to nothing
going into the third period. This is Josh Bogerod calling.

(37:34):
This is the video of him doing the radio call
Saturday night for Game seven.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
Third period the Stars now Randy shut Story who jacket
Bay ranted in seven day.

Speaker 6 (37:51):
Gets Dallas on the board and right back into Game seven.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
All the big guy was able.

Speaker 6 (37:58):
To buy some time in space is really for the
first time in Game seven the Avalanche backed in and
capitulated a little bit twenty two seconds left on them.
Car Minor ranted it in with speed wrapped his store.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
So the boy.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
Seven is time. That was Oh wow, this this is
the third period.

Speaker 1 (38:28):
Not of the blistering speed. He grabs it at rice.
He shows his weight from freakings.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
And it goes off of the leg of Sam Gerard.

Speaker 6 (38:40):
They've scored in all but one this series. Ranted and
goes low Duchane across store.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Whyott Johnston, Oh it's our soccer mister.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
Game seven does it again?

Speaker 1 (39:00):
So as a radio geek, he slaps the high bar.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
Seven film calls as lethal was saying, video of them
calling the game. Then the final for the hat trick
of doors.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
Yeah, and that was what.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Ended it because you pick down there was ranting in
with the hat trick, four points.

Speaker 1 (39:28):
The write this any better?

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Yeah, the three goals and the assist we got over
time in the Nicks. Boston had four points in game
seven and game had a four point period in game
seven and game six Miko ranton and did and then
the hat trick Saturday night and the third So something
about hearing something about seeing the radio guys do the call.

(39:56):
LG and I were talking before the show.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
You it's a genius. It's a genius.

Speaker 5 (40:01):
I feel like more teams need to take advantage of
live streaming. The radio guys. Just throw a camera there.
It's really easy to do, very low, mate man, and
then sink the video just like.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
Like a twenty second delay or something. So you know,
you know when something good is gonna happen, you put there,
you put their little box up. You know, you just
have the whole game run. Just I would tell you how,
just like a box goes up and it's over on
the opponent's side. You're like, well, and.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
Here's you know, specifically speaking, we're gonna dovetail into some
Spurs talk here, but specifically with.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
The Saint Mike with the Spurs st Miko with the
Spurs looking for a new radio guy.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
It would just be a great opportunity to how are
we going to get to know the radio the new
Spurs radio play by play guy? Better throw live stream
on him. Let's see what he actually looks like calling
the game, because is going to be no Bill's Bill's
were talking?

Speaker 1 (41:07):
I know Bill?

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Oh, Jacob, Yeah, Jacob Toby's back.

Speaker 1 (41:10):
For television show we're talking about.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
He got a new job. He's going to be doing
Golden State's w n B A team. He's their playback,
which is kind of unstable to do the Golden State.
He's the voice of the Golden State w n B
A team and.

Speaker 1 (41:26):
The Spurs, so he's gonna fly well their season.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
I think they're about to start their season. Mm hmm,
like we could ever know?

Speaker 1 (41:38):
Yeah. I love the complete silence. Does anybody know the
w n B A schedule?

Speaker 3 (41:44):
I quiz you all on on the draft. A couple
of weeks ago because we were we were doing it
on w n b A Draft night.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
I saw a meme it was did you know the draft?

Speaker 4 (41:56):
It was?

Speaker 1 (41:56):
It was it feels like.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
They had multiple draft a year because it always sneaks
up on me.

Speaker 1 (42:02):
Opening night is Friday, May sixteenth, right right around the corner.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
Yeah, kayln Clark and the rest of the w n
b A, only them. They packed out.

Speaker 3 (42:16):
They packed out her old college arena this week and
there was like lines out the door to three hours
before the game. Uh but yeah, game seven, man, I
mean again, dude, it's especially in hockey where it can
just and it can just all end so quickly.

Speaker 2 (42:36):
You know, we saw it. Uh you know last night
Jets and Blues.

Speaker 3 (42:41):
The Jets end up scoring with one and a half
seconds left to tie the game at the end of
the third, end up winning it in double overtime.

Speaker 1 (42:48):
So my buddy is a huge Saint Louis fan, and.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
He was that's too bad, too bad.

Speaker 1 (42:57):
He has the Blues today.

Speaker 3 (43:00):
Was Saint Louis fans have gotten plenty of uh plenty
of good memories against my childhood teams.

Speaker 1 (43:06):
I think they can they can sell children of the
the Yankees. You think you're us, But what we've.

Speaker 3 (43:13):
Waited long enough? This one hurt the question of the night.
Did anybody vote in the mayor or election?

Speaker 1 (43:23):
Yeah, of course you didn't. I did. There's one right
next to my house. It takes like too many you.

Speaker 2 (43:28):
Well, then you were one of nine percent.

Speaker 1 (43:30):
I saw, like what ninety two thousand people? I voted.
I voted. I'll be there on June seven for.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
The run off. Wa man, I thought I I thought
I had a snod. I thought I had a snide
comment to lead into pop talk.

Speaker 1 (43:48):
I voted, Yeah, I do my part. I tried trying
one of these other mfors.

Speaker 2 (43:54):
Well, look, du is there when there's twenty seven candidates
in the race.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
Was like, yeah, I wanted to do like a whole
episode of deep diving on all these tools.

Speaker 5 (44:05):
Not only that, but like the district candidates, you couldn't
find any information about a bunch.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
Of them, Like nothing did did case that even do
like a like it's like yeah they no, yeah, but
some of them didn't show up.

Speaker 3 (44:18):
Yeah yeah again, how the hell are you going to
get twenty seven people on a stage?

Speaker 1 (44:22):
They need to do more of a promotion because I
didn't see it.

Speaker 2 (44:26):
I didn't.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
Okay, I didn't. I don't. I didn't know whether it
be I read up, I read up on it.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
It also hurts that it's in the middle of Fiesta,
like that's the last weekend of Fiesta, Saturday voting days Republican.
It feels I don't know.

Speaker 3 (44:40):
I don't know who it is or why or the
reasoning behind it, but it definitely feels like weel like
we could have had a Saturday for everyone to actually
decide our future leaders of our city. But no, let's
talk about a leader of our city.

Speaker 1 (45:00):
That you know. I'm not sure it's a man of faith.

Speaker 2 (45:04):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (45:06):
Of course, we're talking about officially Pop stepping down from
head coach earlier today and my boy Pop Mitch Johnson's
introductory press conference, and I think the first the first
thing that came to mind is seeing the amount of
people talk about just how sad of a day it was.

Speaker 1 (45:30):
I loved watching everybody give their memories. Everyone had a memory.
Charles Barkley had a memory, like everybody on the TNT broadcast.
I mean, what was it you had Ernie choking up
with Chuck, not that Chuck, my man that passed away.
Wore the exotic Craig Craig. Craig Sager actually was a

(45:52):
bit of a yeah Craig Sager, but it's I mean
I saw him greet some people and seeing what a stroke.
I think we've all seen, We're old enough to all
seen what a stroke does. There was physical signs that

(46:12):
he was still dealing with it.

Speaker 2 (46:14):
Yeah, and that's gonna that's just gonna be what it
is now.

Speaker 1 (46:18):
And I mean it's it's it's that's why, you know,
the first go out and stress himself out even more.

Speaker 3 (46:27):
I mean, that's the first time, that's the first time
we've heard him hold court since November, since since the
game before.

Speaker 1 (46:37):
He didn't want to take the attention away.

Speaker 3 (46:39):
No, And this is where you mentioned it though, hearing
because this is what always happens.

Speaker 2 (46:44):
Obviously, I don't need to say it. But like when
someone passes away, then you start.

Speaker 3 (46:51):
That's when you get the outpouring of all of these
stories you might not have ever heard, right, And Pop
was never gonna to be a guy just like Tim
uh that was never going to announce any kind of
retirement beforehand to allow a reunion tour to take place.

Speaker 1 (47:12):
Quick update one O eight one of them.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
No one gives a fuck. We're talking about Pop. No
one cares New York.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
Alright, alright, the hearing all of those stories. Three seconds
left him.

Speaker 2 (47:27):
What's the score game five? Oh, so it's a one
possession game.

Speaker 1 (47:31):
It's a one possession game. But nobody nowhere cares. Nobody cares.
Now you've got me look, get back on subject.

Speaker 3 (47:40):
The hearing all of those stories live and allowing people
the room, the oxygen in the room to tell those
stories about him. That doesn't happen unless he shows up
at the press conference today. That doesn't happen if he
doesn't stand behind that podium with Manu and Timmy, who
we also learned I heard Don Harris reporting earlier. You know,

(48:02):
Manu and Timmy have been with Pop every day at
rehab since. Really yes, wow, so like I know as
someone you know, we were all three talking before the
show obviously, you know you cap LG. Both of y'all
grew up born and raised here in San Antonio. You know,

(48:24):
I've been here fifteen years now. For me, you know,
the first memories of Pop were him being the mastermind
behind the machine that that my guys couldn't beat.

Speaker 1 (48:37):
Yeah, the Twin Towers he was, I mean he changed.
He's like you know, he was a Wu Tang swordsman man,
many styles, many styles. He had the Twin Towers and
it ran through Timmy and then he went fast paced
with Tony and then he had Kawhi where it was
you know, the the perfect passing, you know, the beautiful

(49:01):
game like there was no father to his.

Speaker 3 (49:04):
Style now and you mentioned the Yeah, just the when
we talk about eras in sports, you know, there's I
think for a lot of people, myself included, Pop was
kind of the last connective tissue to that childhood era
of the NBA.

Speaker 1 (49:25):
Oh yeah, you know, like there aren't you know, all
Jordan was still winning champions.

Speaker 3 (49:31):
You know, all of the players you just rattled off
from those late nineties early two thousands teams, all of
those guys are out of the.

Speaker 1 (49:39):
League, ewing a keen, you know, David, Timmy.

Speaker 2 (49:44):
You know, Pop was kind of that last connective I.

Speaker 1 (49:48):
Don't know another one bridge except they're working front office,
like Larry.

Speaker 2 (49:53):
At the front off.

Speaker 3 (49:53):
But even Larry Birds, I mean he's retired now. I
don't think he's not even still with the Pacers. There
just aren't there aren't many guys that's still stealing Game one.
There aren't many guys that still connect to childhood the
way Pop did. And like, you know, for me, you know,
my first memories of Pop was being the great coach

(50:15):
that uh, you know, while the Maps were throwing crazy
ass Don Nelson out there running dirt at point guard
or Antoine Walker at point guard. You know, the Spurs
just always seemed to know exactly who they were and
what they.

Speaker 2 (50:32):
Needed to do to be a champion.

Speaker 1 (50:33):
You remember the mess when they put Genobili on the bench.
Everybody just lambasted them. And that's exactly what we needed,
finding that balance and again that made Kobe that let
us beat Kobe Shack that, let us beat Kobe Gasol,

(50:54):
you know that let us sweep King James.

Speaker 2 (50:58):
Yeah, yeah, the you know, the overarching.

Speaker 3 (51:03):
As someone who didn't grow up here, the thought the
phrase Spurs way used to drive me insane as a
teenager when I was in high school, hearing just hearing
about this Spurs way being the reason they're successful and
they had the yan yeah, exactly, very much. And and

(51:24):
if you're not a part of that, it's easy to
find that comical.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
Comically annoying even exactly, it's like he's all the Spurs Way.
You wouldn't say that they weren't winning.

Speaker 2 (51:36):
One thousand.

Speaker 1 (51:38):
Tim Duncan.

Speaker 2 (51:39):
There would be no Spurs Way without Buddy.

Speaker 3 (51:43):
After seeing after seeing Timmy and Manu up there with
him today, there is I feel pretty confident in saying
there's not another sports organization, another sports franchise that actually
like professionally speaking, has a very specific program and way

(52:06):
of doing things, and every and everybody's on board, and
every single person is bought in. Every single person is
a part of that from the usher.

Speaker 1 (52:15):
Even they don't like it, like stack Jack, he didn't
like it, but when he played with us, he was
bought in.

Speaker 2 (52:21):
Yeah, and you can't again.

Speaker 3 (52:23):
I think it absolutely helps when you have one of
the three best players to ever play the game buy
into it.

Speaker 1 (52:30):
Yeah, especially Tim Duncan, like he exactly, you didn't think
that man could show a force and be a general
like pop He would say, like, like one of my
favorite things is like Tim Duncan talked the best trash
because he just go and whisper in your year almost
at it. Yeah, no, the under the the you'll get it.

Speaker 2 (52:52):
Yeah, you know, like the.

Speaker 1 (52:55):
Little sharp sticks. Ye, little sharp sticks.

Speaker 3 (52:57):
See, and that's where you knowically and I bet Pop top,
I bet Pop told him to do that.

Speaker 2 (53:05):
I think there's some combo.

Speaker 1 (53:06):
I think there's probably Timmy to this dry humor. I
bet Pop went to him and been like, go compliment, Yeah,
use that, go compliment. Use that.

Speaker 2 (53:15):
I think you you mentioning.

Speaker 3 (53:17):
Manu being bought in to the program so much so
that he never had an issue coming off the bench,
mentioning Timmy being as great of a player as he was,
never having a problem with how things were done. I
think those two guys symbolically standing on either side of

(53:38):
Pop today was the perfect final image of that era
of Spurs basketball.

Speaker 1 (53:45):
You know, Pop didn't take his Hall of Fame until Timmy,
until they all got it was and that I'll get
mine after they get there. It was.

Speaker 3 (53:58):
I I think I remember this correctly. It was the
same year that Dirk got in too. And you know,
for me again growing up with Tony, I think d Wade.

Speaker 2 (54:10):
There was d Wade, Dirk.

Speaker 3 (54:12):
It might have been Pop might have been the year
before that class, but either way, the you know, growing
up obviously bound by region to be a MAVs fan
by birth. The Dirk's final game of his career. You
go into Hey, there's a Darryl Razor ray. You go
back and watch, you know, because this is what I've

(54:35):
spent all day doing, is going back and just watch,
you know, the the moment where Pop hack A shacked
Shack and then gave him the two thumbs.

Speaker 1 (54:44):
It's great. I mean, just looking at him in the
Phoenix Jersey, just like he's like, so.

Speaker 2 (54:51):
I'm going back down those wormholes, right And.

Speaker 3 (54:56):
I found the video of Dirk's last game of his
career in San Antonio. He had had the emotional send
off the night before in Dallas in his last home game.

Speaker 1 (55:09):
We almost did a better one.

Speaker 2 (55:11):
Almost.

Speaker 1 (55:12):
Well, I'll tell you talk.

Speaker 2 (55:16):
It wasn't that let's not get crazy San Antonio. It
wasn't that it was better.

Speaker 3 (55:20):
It was that it was the perfect representation of the
mutual respect between the two parties, between Dirk and the Spurs,
and it was all led by Pop. You go back
and you watch that final possession. Pop is trying to
wave Drew U Banks to get out of the way
and let Dirk take a final shot.

Speaker 2 (55:40):
U Banks doesn't.

Speaker 3 (55:41):
Dirk makes the shot over him anyway, but you can
see Pop in the background just waving it.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
You've been like, yeah, back, like, let us let this
man cook exactly, let this man have his send off,
let him have this final shot. And then the scenes after, uh,
after the game where you know Pop and Dirk had
a special moment there on the court, and that you know,
as again as someone who wasn't raised in the s

(56:08):
of course he did, yeah, of course.

Speaker 3 (56:09):
And to have to have a you know, such a
historically important two historically important figures, one from the coaching
front office ranks, one from the player ranks, competed against
each other. I mean both of the MAVs and Spurs
had fifty win seasons every year for eighteen nineteen seasons.

Speaker 2 (56:32):
In a row. That they were.

Speaker 3 (56:37):
You know, the Lakers were the biggest rival, yeh, but
here in Texas, I mean it was Dirk could never
get past San Antonio and so it was like ke
Minnesota one thousand and to see Pop give him that
respect at the end of that game, at the end
of his career, that to me, I mean, going back
through all of the I know, from a MAVs bias

(57:00):
through Mad sunglasses, that was the one that, like I
will I will never forge, never forget that night and
the fact that Pop made it become so much better fan.
Now we're not We're hey, update, We're close, We're close.
I've got We've talked about this before.

Speaker 1 (57:16):
They've done with them. The MAVs are dead to me.
It's it's there's no The Cowboys are coming.

Speaker 2 (57:20):
They're moving to Vegas.

Speaker 3 (57:21):
They are the I can't be a Spurs fan in
full I mean I am wearing my come on now
Spurs shirt, come on now. I can't be a full
on Spurs fan until I've lived in San Antonio more
than any other city in my life.

Speaker 2 (57:39):
So I had eighteen years in DFW. I'm at fifteen
here in San Antonio. So if I got two and
a half more years, well before I can. You're closer
to Houston. So we've had this talk.

Speaker 1 (57:50):
I'm living. I've never lived one. I've never lived in Houston.
Episode one.

Speaker 2 (57:56):
There's no there's not a single there's nothing.

Speaker 1 (57:59):
You gave up on a sinking ship, but you stick
with the Cowboys. Y. It doesn't make sense.

Speaker 3 (58:06):
Because the Cowboys never did a trade so bad that
literal opposed. The Cowboys have never made a trade so
bad that Eagles fans were like, man, I feel bad
for y'all.

Speaker 2 (58:18):
Or Giants fans were like, or Niners fans were like, man,
that's really bad. And I genuine like that happened with Luca,
Like I had Spurs fans that were literally reaching out
to me like, hey, man, are you okay?

Speaker 1 (58:30):
Like I know that's not about like the ineptitude of
not drafting running back or.

Speaker 2 (58:35):
Okay, we're not talking NFL. You're You're not justsuading me
from my Cowboys fandom. Not yet. Hey, I believe in Shoddy.

Speaker 1 (58:43):
Let's give him a chance. I'm kidding, Lonnie. Lonnie's in
the chat. He remembers the time that we met Shaq's
father and mom. We were sending for roll call tickets.
I think, uh, sweet, Rick Fox to a friend of mine,
got Rick Fox as will call tickets and we got
to see Shaq's parents stepdad in there, and he looked

(59:06):
at me, He's like, what's that, big man? And I
was like that sounded just like Shaq. I was like, so,
can we get into the locker room? Maybe?

Speaker 2 (59:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (59:15):
What else can you do? Can we go like say
hello to Kobe? Look? Could we could do this all night?

Speaker 3 (59:20):
Like That's another great story when Shaq was here in
high school and his dad reached out to the Spurs
asking like, hey, dude, my son wears a size twenty two.
Can you do y'all have an extra pair, maybe that
worn out that we can just get And then Popp
ens up sending on like half a dozen pairs of shoes.

Speaker 2 (59:39):
Yeah, like just those kinds of things. I you know,
I mentioned it at the top.

Speaker 3 (59:44):
There's there's not another professional sports franchise that is run
truly in the sense of being a family and all
being on the same.

Speaker 2 (59:56):
Page like the Spurs are.

Speaker 3 (59:57):
And that absolutely started, uh with with Pop instilling that
kind of program to get us to where we are now,
and we're not going to spend a lot of time
we talked about, Oh let's get that.

Speaker 1 (01:00:11):
I like what you said earlier, the our earliest memories.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
Yeah, so yeah, I was curious, because what's your.

Speaker 1 (01:00:19):
Earliest memory of Pop there, buddy, because y'all were both
too young, like whenever he took over it.

Speaker 5 (01:00:27):
Was the nine Yeah, I don't remember. I don't remember
that at all. I remember the ninety nine season, the Chance,
the lockout year when they won the championship, and I
remember Pop had like this buzz like military buzz cut.
That's really like all I remember about that because I
wasn't you know. I remember watching it because my family
and my brother was watching it, but I wasn't really

(01:00:47):
into basketball, like totally at the time. But I just
remember him, you know, being a coach and yelling a lot,
and he had that. I just remember he had that
buzz cut. It was like a military style buzz cut.

Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
So mine was like basketball was never my go to
baseball football. I'd watch hockey over basketball sometimes. But it
was when he would just lamb. He would just raise
hell on Tony his rookie year, his sophomore year in
front of everybody, and they had a bunch of national

(01:01:21):
team national TV spots and stuff like that on TNT.
And it was during the whole Jason Kid talk where
they wanted Jason Kidd from New Jersey and we kept
playing them, they kept going to the finals, and I
just remember Pop like doing it. I'm just like, man,
this guy's an asshole. But then it kind of showed

(01:01:46):
me that it was the tough love when he stuck
with him and the relationship that he has that he's
probably said is my best relationship with the player is
probably Tony Parker.

Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
You know that well point guard is and that's that's
the extension of the head coach.

Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
He feels like that's you know, that's my child. Like
Tim is like his best friend, you know what I'm saying.
But he's like the person that I get emotional about
most is Tony and that's what that's my first memory
of him.

Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
Yeah, I think you could say tim tim was gonna
be great no matter what situation he landed in. I
don't think you can say the same about Tony and Manu.

Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
Like that was more Tony, but I mean he was here,
he had success with the Argentina.

Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
Yeah, but he didn't have enough to make him a
first round like Tony was.

Speaker 1 (01:02:37):
Still I think we were still biased with American players.

Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
Sure, yeah, it was a very different landscape.

Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
Drat they can't they can't adapt to the American game.

Speaker 2 (01:02:46):
But I still I.

Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
Still think there if you're talking about impact on careers,
Tony's number out of the Big three pop at the
most impact on Tony, and then it's Manu and then
Timmy would have been Timmy was just gonna be dominant
no matter where when he went to Boston coached him
with all that with that big market, or if he
had taken that money from Orlando. Yeah, I uh, you know,

(01:03:09):
the first I guess the first memory for me with
Pop is the first the first one, the first MAVs
Spurs matchup.

Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
Uh what was that?

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
Oh? A one or O two? And the Spurs.

Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
The way they were able to take everything away from
Dirk in the series, and Dirk was starting to become
who he was going to end up developing into, was
starting to get confidence, and then Pop threw so many
different defensive schemes.

Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
At him that he was he was an absolute non factor,
you know.

Speaker 3 (01:03:53):
And it took two years of going up against the
Spurs in the playoffs before they eventually beat him in
that game seven and three?

Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
Three was that five?

Speaker 1 (01:04:04):
He couldn't he couldn't run off a pick like they had.
They put Bruce Bowens.

Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
On him, and that was that took away everything Dirk.

Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
Every time he put the ball down, we were swiping
at it. I remember Pop from we turned into a
just like a shoot, a disappointing shoot, like a just
catch and shoot. That's not Dirk. Dirk needs to you know,
work the ball a little bit work the post.

Speaker 3 (01:04:28):
Yeah, and that was and at that point and Pop
realized at that point Dirk didn't have the developed game
to respond to what they were throwing at him. I remember,
I mean, I remember Pop from your finals against the Knicks,
but I don't really really remember him becoming because there

(01:04:50):
was a jump where it was from being the Spurs
coach to being a nationally talked about head coach.

Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
You talked about the Craig Sager interview, Uh, you know
sideline interviews.

Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
It's three word response, one word answers to to three
questions in a room, like what you did on the
last half of asketball?

Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
No, no, have you have you thought about what you
can do better?

Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
Well do you think your guys will go out and
execute it?

Speaker 1 (01:05:19):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
Okay, thanks for your time. Yeah, hopefully, hopefully exactly. So
I think there's there's there's Pop. There's Pop the caricature
with the one word answers and all that. There's Pop
the outspoken, you know, political activist, and then I think

(01:05:41):
at the core of all of that, there's just there's
just good dude Pop.

Speaker 1 (01:05:46):
Like the stories of you know him, never heard anybody
say who met him? Who met exactly? Said like man,
he was such an ass. Timmy was an asshold in me.
One time I met him at best.

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Buy, Timmy, that lady all Walter.

Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
One time I get I was like, man, I was
a little punk kid. But like I was like, I've
never heard a story where Pop was like get away
from me. No, And I think he'd be.

Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
I mean, from everything I've read today, I think you'd
be really really hard pressed to find that, because you know,
I mentioned it's it's not it's not just the way
he treated the players, the you know, all the stories
I saw a bunch of younger journalists or even guys
that aren't young anymore, but we're young in the late nineties.

Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
Brad Townsend, a reporter out of a DFW. I think
he's with the Star Telegram now, or he might just
be he might be Morning either way, DFW newspaper.

Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
Writer, sports writer.

Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
And he told the story of when the Holtz bought
the Spurs and brought Pop back into the organization. Brad
Townsend had just been fired by the San Antonio newspaper
that he was writing for, so he had been writing.
He'd cut his teeth in San Antonio before going up
to DFW. Don't take offense to that. It's just the

(01:07:07):
career path usually bigger market.

Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
Sol.

Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
No, it's it's actually cool. It's actually the opposite. It's
actually you don't want to be Chicago, New York, LA.
You would rather be San Diego, San Antonio, Sacramento, way cooler.

Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
But no, Brad Townsend said.

Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
He told the story he got a call from Pop
and Pop told him, Hey, I want I want you
to know Spurs are selling the team. They're bringing me
back into the organization.

Speaker 1 (01:07:34):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
I wanted to give you the scoop.

Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
And Brad Townsend told Pop, I just lost my job
last week. I you know, I don't write for the
local paper anymore, So you might want to give this
to someone else. And the way he Townsend tells it
is that Pop told him, no, that's why I'm telling
you this, so that you can use it to get
your next job.

Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
Yeah, so he can pat his resume thousand, so he
can have the break guy. And that's a nice guy.

Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
And that's a guy you know again.

Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
Now Townsend been in DFW for for twenty five years,
thirty years now. Uh you know his story wasn't I
saw you know multiple of our Uh yeah, and I
don't know if they're contemporary. We're not journalists, but you know,
multiple of our other media personality and bloggers telling the

(01:08:27):
stories of you know, being scared to death the first
time they were in the media room talking to Pop
and then uh, you know, walking like because again I
think there's this caricature of Pop and then there's closer
to who Pop.

Speaker 1 (01:08:43):
Was really playing into the characters of course, but we
always just he was so like, the last thing Pop
wanted to do was talk about a loss that he
knew it shouldn't have been a loss. His team just
flat out he was gonna sit and break x's and odes.
And then if you ask him the same question, he's
going to kill you, dude. He's like I just answered that, yeah,

(01:09:04):
and he's just giving you those daggers on his eyes,
like I hate you.

Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
I'm not sure there's I'm not sure there's any coach
that has ever said more with saying nothing at all
at times when it when it comes.

Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
To media, I thought, my dad makes me feel all disappointed.
He'll just sit there and just give me a look
and just stare at me like I'm the stupidest personal
live and I'm just like stopping.

Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
I'm trying, man, well, don't try do better.

Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
That's what I was playing ping pong with a girl
one time, and she was she was not holding up
her end of the partnership, and she kept apologizing over
and over, and finally I just said stop apologizing and
do better, and she was like she looked at me.

Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
She's like it was like a light bulb.

Speaker 3 (01:09:54):
It was like, oh, no one's ever told me that
before she she was she was of the attraction level
that no one would ever tell her she did anything wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
Oh yeah, and I don't know your swing is working.
It's just it's you just gotta angle.

Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
It is a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
Than I'm extremely competitive, even when it's ping pong. So
I was tired of losing to the point where like
I'm never gonna have a chance, and I'm just gonna
tell her.

Speaker 1 (01:10:16):
Just those chicks like like I remember like a couple
of our friends we always played like sad volleyball and
we go down to poort or you know, padre, and
they were just horrible. I'm like, hey, just stand at
the front, jump up and down constantly, see your titties bounce,
and just just distract them. Let us, do the work,

(01:10:37):
distract them, nothing else, start flirting with the other team.
We're here to win. We're here to win.

Speaker 2 (01:10:44):
Right now, it sounds like coach Pop right there?

Speaker 1 (01:10:46):
You married me jumping up and down every time I
see you.

Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Oh on that note, I know a lot of people.

Speaker 3 (01:10:54):
We talked about it a couple of weeks ago, the
you know, when we had the reports of Pop fainting
at Ruth Chris and you know, we I think we
not that it was hard to predict, but you know,
we said he's gonna end up being president of basketball operations.
It's just a matter of who they pick for next

(01:11:16):
head coach. And of course now we know LG. Do
you have some of those cuts from the either of
you boys watched the press conference this morning? Yes, okay,
a couple of these cuts, thought Casat put out, I know, I.

Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
Which one you want first? Let's go.

Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
Let's go with pop At first. That first one, I said, okay,
Pop talking about his.

Speaker 1 (01:11:41):
New role, all right? Is that the one where he undresses.

Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
That's correct, he does. He brought prompts O great, want
to make sure understands what the new job is.

Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
Eleaven, I'm no longer.

Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Poch.

Speaker 1 (01:12:03):
I's also healthy down in there.

Speaker 4 (01:12:06):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
He's also wearing Chris Chris, Yeah, senior Popovitch on the
band Your.

Speaker 3 (01:12:13):
Game of Basketball lots he Uh that's a sick ass
ninety Spur.

Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
You know that's from like ninety six ninety seven.

Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
Yeah, it looks like he dug that out.

Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
Yeah, he specifically at from well jacket.

Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
He was wearing. Oh yeah, that jacket looked so flying.
I want to see his starter jacket collection.

Speaker 3 (01:12:37):
Yeah, I thought, uh, oh god, you know it's awesome.
All the team gear he's gotten over twenty nine years.

Speaker 1 (01:12:44):
You know, Spurs and Raiders got the best colors, black
and white. You know, I'm black and silver silver.

Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
Uh yeah, I thought.

Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
You know again, Pop was never going to make this
about himself. That's as close as we were going to
get of him doing a bit calling himself l hefe because.

Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
That I mean, if that's if that's the closest we get,
that's all we need. Because that was perfect. That was
You couldn't have asked.

Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
For anything better because he was never going to do
a reunion tor. This was the closest thing we were
going to get, and him specifically being there, not just
to make a first public appearance since November, but more
specifically being there to support his successor, Mitch Johnson.

Speaker 4 (01:13:30):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:13:30):
This next clip Pop actually talking about how prepared he
feels Mitch is for the role.

Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
Okay, Mitch is a.

Speaker 4 (01:13:41):
Gli for a few years behind the bench, a few
years on the bench, a few years, and he took
over this year, did a fantastic job, very with circumstances
that were very difficult, and.

Speaker 1 (01:13:57):
We saw him in action and he was brilliant.

Speaker 4 (01:14:00):
Players respect him, will hold him accountable, and I couldn't
be more thrilled for him and his family and friends.
It's just a tribute to him. All the players who
were in town were able to come, especially a special guest,

(01:14:22):
Jeaney Murray, who Mitch is known since he was nine
years old, since Jane was nine years old. He came
all this way just to be here for this day.

Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
Both Seattle guys, Minch and I both appreciate it very much. Yeah,
So a couple of things there.

Speaker 3 (01:14:38):
First of all, I know there's been a lot of
rush and the Mitch Johnson higher is not at all
a fully everyone and not everyone's on board, and I
understand there are reasons there are honest basketball arguments to
be had based on me.

Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
He didn't get worse, no question. Now put the pieces in.

Speaker 2 (01:15:03):
That, no question.

Speaker 3 (01:15:04):
And I think if you want to if you want
to argue over how he was, you know, rotations he
was throwing out there in the second half of the
season when every one thousand percent it was a tank job.
If you want to talk about some of the rotations
he was putting out in November and December when Sohan

(01:15:25):
was injured and he was still an interim title head
coach and none of us knew that it. Pop actually
wasn't going to be coming back. I think if you
want to have the basketball arguments, there are honest conversations
to be had.

Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
But most importantly, going.

Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
Back to that clip, the way Pop said he will
he will hold the players accountable. I think that is
one thousand percent when if.

Speaker 1 (01:15:54):
You want, we're not going to use bitch as escapegoat.

Speaker 3 (01:15:57):
If you want to describe spurs Way in one word,
it's accountability.

Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
That's what it's always been. It's always you are.

Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
Did you hear that? Women accountable?

Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
You are accountable, You are accountable to yourself.

Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
You will be a part of the spurs Way right now.

Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
Accountable to the Spurs way uh less of a domestic
uh less of a dv angle to it potentially, But again,
I mean tough love.

Speaker 1 (01:16:28):
You mention it.

Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
It requires in order to hold people accountable at times,
it requires that tough love. And if if Pop is
telling us Mitch has that respect level amongst the players
to hold them accountable like that, then I think we
have to give him benefit of the doubt and see
what that actually looks like as full time title head

(01:16:52):
coach and not interim head coach.

Speaker 1 (01:16:54):
I mean he held he had old Tony Parker accountable.
You know, he was four wheeling up in Stone Oak
with all the pet strippers.

Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
You know that sounds like a hell of a Thursdays,
like a hell of a Tuesday night.

Speaker 1 (01:17:07):
We're like, is that Tony Parker going back? They're like,
He's like, yeah, man, he's got like a different girl
every time.

Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
And it was like, what's not bicker?

Speaker 1 (01:17:17):
He was nineteen. They won't give me no champagne. They
don't give me no champagne.

Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
You know, I guarantee you he's still he's still upset
about the Battle of Pueblo.

Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
Maybe Wedby's not.

Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
But he was. I uh, man, let's get to this
lightning round.

Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (01:17:31):
It's time? It's time, man. We we're almost running into
an hour and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
What else you got to do tonight? We're doing another
show Wednesday?

Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
I know that.

Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Are you gonna Are you have it in you to
do another hour Wednesday?

Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
Maybe when it's when yesterday wasn't so difficult.

Speaker 2 (01:17:50):
That's three.

Speaker 3 (01:17:50):
That's three total hours of work this week. I got
the NBA real quick before we get to the lightning
round I did. I guess we could call this lightning
Round the recapping some of my preseason NBA talk, preseason
NBA predictions because the well, specifically, I think the most

(01:18:12):
interesting thing.

Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
I took the Spurs roster.

Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
This was from October ninth, the episode back in October night,
and put the Spurs roster into six tiers. So one
was Tier one was Untouchable, that was Wemby, Yeah, Tier
two was Foundation and on the split between Tier one
and tier two, I had Steph Castle. So like we

(01:18:38):
didn't know it's October, we don't know what he's gonna be.
If he has a good rookie year, he slides into untouchable,
which now might not be true because he might be
included in a potential Yawnis trade, but that's it. Might
take it if you want him. We'll save that for Wednesday.
But I had Castle floating, and then foundation was Vissel Sohan.

Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (01:19:00):
I think the jury is still out on both of
those being foundational pieces, which also could end up being
included in a big deal this summer. But the most
interesting thing to me tier three, I had vets slash
trade pieces, and that was CP three Barnes and Kelden.
And then in tier four was just called respectfully called placeholders.

Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
Then the bench place guys just holding a place on
the roster. Well, no, at the time, it was Zach Collins,
Trade Jones, Champagne, Bassian Mamu.

Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
So looking back on the.

Speaker 3 (01:19:39):
Looking back on the Spurs trade for dearon Fox, the
fact that they only gave up quote unquote placeholders and
Collins and trade Jones, Yeah, and ended up with the
best player.

Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
In that trade.

Speaker 3 (01:19:56):
I mean, Zach Levine ends up going to Sacramento because
Zakramano still wanted to push for a playoff spot.

Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
But the fact that the looking back on it iculous,
the first got de aarn Fox without giving up Wimby
Castle for on his contract. Well, he signed, he's locked in.

Speaker 1 (01:20:15):
I know he's locked in with us, but with when
he was in Sack, Yeah, he's still he was. So
they're just trying to get anything for him.

Speaker 3 (01:20:21):
They were holding and specifically they had the owner that
was trying to compete win now, Uh so they wanted
Levine back instead of young pieces like or is this
potent Sack just sitting.

Speaker 1 (01:20:33):
There just well, I guess they did the Levigne trade
because they want to go to Vegas, right, I think
it's I think they want to flick that being in
Vegas was I think.

Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
First of all, I think if any team ends up
in Vegas, it's probably.

Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
Going to be the MAVs. And then, uh, Dallas is
a big market, it is, But so my guess MAVs.

Speaker 3 (01:20:56):
MAVs stay in Dallas, but the Adelson sell them to
somebody else and then end up getting the expansion team there.

Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
But the only other one.

Speaker 3 (01:21:05):
First, just looking back at how much they fleeced Sacramento
in Chicago and that Fox trade, but I did the
week of that week of last week of September, first
week of October did some over under predictions of each
team in the East and the West. So for example,

(01:21:27):
Atlanta was predicted to win thirty six and a half games.
They end up winning forty, so they hit the over. Yeah,
I said under. So I was wrong on that one,
which was hoping Atlanta would be under because that.

Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
Would have helped Spurs.

Speaker 3 (01:21:41):
So overall, predicting over unders at the beginning of the season,
I went eight and seven. In the East, I got
eight correct and seven wrong, and in the West I
got seven correct and eight wrong. So if you can
do the math at home, that is an exactly fifteen
and fifteen record dead even you.

Speaker 1 (01:22:01):
Ain't making no money, no money whatsoever.

Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
The biggest missus I missed Atlanta. I mentioned miss Chicago
as well, which I think that was biased because I
wanted both of those to be under. Really missed Detroit.
Did not have Detroit as a six seed. I thought
they would be better, and in the play.

Speaker 1 (01:22:20):
In Detroit, man did awesome, really good, like their defense
and cutting in coming into his.

Speaker 3 (01:22:27):
Own well, actually looking like a former first overall pick
in the draft.

Speaker 1 (01:22:32):
Yeah the uh.

Speaker 3 (01:22:33):
And then in the West, of course, missed Dallas because
of everything that happened there. Missed Sacramento because I didn't
really anticipate them getting fleeced trading their best player to
another Western Conference team.

Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
And then lastly, was way way off on Phoenix. Of course,
we know the drama there and them potentially trading KD
this offseason.

Speaker 2 (01:22:57):
So you'll be happy to know though.

Speaker 3 (01:23:00):
Although you updated me earlier that the Celtics lost game
one to night against the Knicks, I predicted Celtics Nuggets.

Speaker 2 (01:23:07):
In the finals. So at least both my finals. I
said this. I said that on October ninth.

Speaker 1 (01:23:13):
Oh did a big stretch there. That was a hard stretch.
Is Celtics and Nuggets? Joker three time MVP.

Speaker 3 (01:23:22):
Now it's the NBA. The Nuggets weren't They weren't in
the finals last year. They weren't even in the Western
Conference finals last year that I felt like. And they
also fired Malone the last week of the season.

Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
All right, let's get to the lightning round.

Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
So we talked about it at the beginning, of course,
with the Stars Stars head coach Pete de boor nine
to oh now in game sevens in his career. The
only coach in professional sports that has a similar undefeated record,
Red Arbach. The only other guy to be nine and

(01:24:00):
think there's actually one more. But the name that Red
is the one that stands out.

Speaker 1 (01:24:04):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:24:04):
So the Stars won that game seven, but we talked
about it. For the casual fan.

Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
You don't make Red our Bach and your hockey coach can't.

Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
No, you can't at all. There were eight nine teams
in the league. Like, winning a game seven back then
was nowhere.

Speaker 3 (01:24:21):
Near winning nine, going being nine to zero in game sevens.
That all took place after the year two thousand. That's
insane for a coade of any any sport. But for
the casual fan, we get two game sevens in the NBA,

(01:24:41):
two game sevens in the NHL. Warriors Nuggets win their
game sevens in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (01:24:47):
More Draymond Green?

Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
Would you rather have more Draymond or more Houston Rockets basketball?

Speaker 3 (01:24:54):
Give me more of the actual, Give me more of
the actual Hall of famers making one last run together.

Speaker 1 (01:25:01):
This man said Draymond was a generational talent.

Speaker 2 (01:25:04):
Do you want to talk about that?

Speaker 1 (01:25:05):
No, I do not hit me with the lightning round
they have created. Uh. There is a new biotech new
canna applied protide technology basically where a fungus has boosted
cancer research like we're cancer fighting research forty like forty times.

Speaker 3 (01:25:28):
So it's like the Mike Judge Show that was just
on the common side effects. They found the mushroom that
will cure everything.

Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
Yeah that it says it can. It helps cure cancer
forty times better.

Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
So it's better than it's better.

Speaker 1 (01:25:44):
We're gonna live forever.

Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
Baby, Let's not get too crazy, but I do love
the idea of something naturally growing being the basis of.

Speaker 1 (01:25:56):
A man.

Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
You should ask the roommate one you're She wanted me
to go as a fun guy.

Speaker 1 (01:26:03):
Yeah, I'm just not the Halloween type.

Speaker 2 (01:26:08):
I just couldn't do it. The costume was awesome though
she was a fun gal, but it didn't work without
the fun guy. Give me the give me the interstitial LG.
So a generational talents, well, it means that you're a hall.

Speaker 1 (01:26:23):
Of famer among your generations. Kobe and all those shooting guards.
He's more of a generational talent than That's insane. That's
you're one of those is a hall of fame, a
future hall of famer. The other isn't. Yeah, he's only
a future hall of fame man. Run his mouth the
other well, and.

Speaker 3 (01:26:41):
Also plays great defense and has more assists per minute
than most people at his bazion.

Speaker 2 (01:26:47):
Anyway. Anyway, other game sevens in the NHL talked about
the Jets, talked about the Stars, talked about the Warriors
and Nuggets. Does it bother you at all? Whatsoever?

Speaker 3 (01:27:01):
That yesterday there was a game one of round two
played before a game seven of round one.

Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
That's unstable?

Speaker 1 (01:27:10):
How are they?

Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
How are they gonna like we had Cavs pacers at fire.

Speaker 1 (01:27:14):
Someone sit out four games, five games before.

Speaker 2 (01:27:17):
The five days Yeah, four or five days days? Unstable, untenable. Uh,
that was just my last thoughts on the NBA.

Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
NHL hit me. Mike Tyson once offered ten thousand of
everybody's heard about the gorilla debate.

Speaker 2 (01:27:34):
We're back of the.

Speaker 1 (01:27:37):
Gorilla. Mike Tyson off once offered. I'm sure he was
not high on cocaine. Offered a zoo keeper ten thousand
dollars to let him in the cage and fight a
silver back, and.

Speaker 3 (01:27:51):
The zoo keeper said no, because he will just he
will seconds. Okay, here's the question.

Speaker 1 (01:27:59):
I can see all my I got him. I can't
get that high.

Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
Avoid you're not gonna be able to I got him that,
you know.

Speaker 1 (01:28:05):
I got him.

Speaker 2 (01:28:06):
Come on, come on, one hundred.

Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
That was the horrible to the most, that's probably the worst.
Mike Tyson impressions. Well, it can only go up.

Speaker 2 (01:28:12):
It can only go up, It can only get better.

Speaker 3 (01:28:15):
One hundred twenty five year old Mike Tyson's versus the gorilla.

Speaker 2 (01:28:20):
They the gorilla still just slaughters.

Speaker 1 (01:28:24):
What if you just work on his the gorilla's nuts,
just work on them?

Speaker 2 (01:28:28):
Okay, So I think he would.

Speaker 1 (01:28:32):
You would have You wouldn't have to be prepared to
Mike Tyson just comes in with the low right there.

Speaker 2 (01:28:39):
It would be prepared to give it something.

Speaker 3 (01:28:43):
Certainly unsuitable for for uh nine thirty on a Monday night.
You would have to get creative with with how you attacked.
And I think that would absolutely start with finding the
week and.

Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
Speaking of it. AI was asked if one hundred Tom Aspinalls,
which is he's one of the one of the top
UFC fighters, could be Yeah, it could beat a gorilla.
Gorilla is four or five times basically the AI or

(01:29:16):
a one is our Miss McMahon like, oh yeah, that's right,
said they would only take twenty to thirty Tom Aspitals
to beat the gorilla. That's what Ai. That's that's our future.
That's our future, that's going to control us, says, twenty
of us can take on a gorilla full ship full

(01:29:37):
of ship.

Speaker 3 (01:29:38):
I take that as even more of a reason to
be Uh, China hack that a worried about. Yeah, China
wants us to go twenty thirty dudes at a time
and thrill. Give me an interstitial lgh. I joked about
the pee wee riding his bike. I joked about the

(01:29:58):
Rangers offensive truble. Did you know there was something called
an offensive coordinator in baseball?

Speaker 1 (01:30:05):
An offensive coordinator? Yes, what did you do? Make the lineup?
So that's the manager job.

Speaker 3 (01:30:10):
It's basically it's basically like your overarching offensive coach who
then has then you have a hitting coach under him.

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
It's just so the.

Speaker 1 (01:30:20):
Giants start suggestions. Basically, he kind of.

Speaker 3 (01:30:23):
Creates the outline of the of the system, of the program,
of the hitting approach, and then the coaches, you know,
actually do the coaching and execute it. So it I
think I don't think they were the first to have it,
but it the Giants when Boachie was.

Speaker 2 (01:30:39):
There in the late at early teens, had that. Was there.

Speaker 3 (01:30:46):
A lot, not that it was given all the credit,
but a lot of the offensive credit was given to
their offensive coordinator at the time, and it was a
bit of a new found So all that to say
the Rangers had an offensive coordinator, Uh, they don't anymore.
They fired Donnie Ecker end up putting Leo Otis to
Leodi Tavares on waivers. But it sounds like Evan Carter,

(01:31:12):
the stud prospect, is gonna get called up to play center.

Speaker 2 (01:31:15):
Field every day.

Speaker 3 (01:31:16):
And then here's a name, a blast from the past,
former Mariner legend, a guy that you'll appreciate.

Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
Brett Boone.

Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
Oh, Brett Boone.

Speaker 3 (01:31:29):
Brett Boone has been named rangers new hitting coach as
of this after look again when brother of one Aaron Okay,
all right, interstitial before this boom, before this becomes a
Yankees double minute.

Speaker 1 (01:31:49):
Dallas Cowboys signed.

Speaker 2 (01:31:54):
Now you're getting bull sacked. So this is a bull sack.

Speaker 1 (01:31:59):
Sports, and I was hoping that was true. Nah, Well,
I'll do it on a happier note, even though it's
hard for me to say anything good about this team
because I loaded them so much. Isaiah Pacheco is donating
his whole paycheck next year and bonuses, which is equal
to about three point five million to invest in these

(01:32:20):
houses for homeless youth in Kansas City. That is some entrepreneurials.
That is some philanthropy. Shit, Yeah, that is. It's amazing.

Speaker 2 (01:32:34):
You sent me the detail. So specifically, it's like he's
buying three houses.

Speaker 1 (01:32:39):
Well basically he's buying these huge mansion types of houses,
and he's making like they're gonna renovate it where it's
like little dorm room. It's gonna be like living quarters
so they have somewhere to go, and of course they'll
have structure and stuff like this. You know, these billionaires
and everybody wants to sit there and want to talk
about how do we get rid of homeless crisis. Probably

(01:33:00):
take one hundred billion dollars to build a bunch of
little dorms.

Speaker 2 (01:33:04):
Right, Well, then go out and earn a hundred billion dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:33:10):
Right on top of that, Rose give me one more
interstitial LG and we'll get out of here. Lastly, I've
got I'm gonna save snake Bite Guy Talk for Wednesday's
episode because if you missed the beginning of the program,
we will be back live Wednesday night eight o'clock again.

(01:33:31):
We'll close it out with a shout out shout out
to my real good buddy Jenny Lee over at Y
one hundred, former Magic one O five three personality. It
was announced over the weekend that she is the new
morning uh well one half of the new morning show
on there on Cock.

Speaker 2 (01:33:50):
Yes, it's a yay Boo situation because Yay.

Speaker 3 (01:33:54):
Jenny Lee got hired, but Boo her partner apparently had
some issued, some complications with one of his kiddos son
had to be hospitalized over the weekend, so they postponed.

Speaker 2 (01:34:08):
They were supposed to go live this morning.

Speaker 3 (01:34:10):
Of course, postponed allowed him to take care of his kiddo,
his boy, his family situation. But hopefully as soon as
they can get a good bill of health for his son.
I believe his name is Eric. He will be pairing
up with Jenny Lee over at why one hundred. So

(01:34:32):
as someone you know, we started the show talking about
being an old school radio nerd still love love to
see my longtime Jenny Lee was one of the first
people I met in radio when I started out at
Cox and was working on the Billy Madison Show. Well
it's even better because it was the Cox Media Billy

(01:34:53):
Madison Show. Promotional team. I was literally I was setting
up tim out stickers and uh.

Speaker 2 (01:35:02):
From there end up. I'll show you a groan finding
myself in uh in parts unknown, broadcasting the Sports Cave
live here. I think that'll do it for Monday night.

Speaker 1 (01:35:14):
We've still got it.

Speaker 3 (01:35:15):
We still got a lot left on the bone for Wednesday,
so uh again, we will be back live. We got
Stars and Jets game one Wednesday night, so you can
you can feel confident we won't go. I know you're
worried about it. You're staring bullets through me. And on

(01:35:36):
that note, we'll see y'all Wednesday night.

Speaker 2 (01:35:39):
Peace kids.

Speaker 1 (01:35:45):
What do we say about drugs?

Speaker 2 (01:35:51):
Yeah,
