Yes, light the beam bright.

Speaker 4 (00:17):
We are back for another week here on the Sports
Cave with Biggest Puma. As always, I am your host,
Sam Freeze. If you want to get a hold of
the program that is highly encouraged, you can find me

Broadcasting Live two tape. Still a minor detail from the

(00:38):
east side of San Antonio here where we are closing
in on single digits. We are eleven days away now
from Texas v. Texas A and M. You can bet
we will talk a lot about that next week, assuming
Texas can get past Kentucky and an M can get
past Auburn and keep the hype for that game at

(00:59):
a maximum. A little bit of housekeeping to take care
of here at the top of the program. Since the
Cowboys played last night, we're gonna push everything back a day,
gonna talk NFL in the main segment today, which of
course that means we're gonna talk Cowboys. It's hard to
believe there's still seven more of these things we have

(01:20):
to talk about, and because of that, I tried to
come up with a fun way to cover these games
moving forward. Because buddy, they're gonna be awful. They're only
going to potentially be favorites in two games, and even then,
I'm not sure how much faith you have in them

(01:40):
winning either of the games against the Giants or Panthers.
But we're going to rely heavily on audio from these
broadcasts because as bad as the Cowboys are, America can't
get enough of them. They are playing standalone primetime games
for the majority of the rest of the season. So

(02:01):
we're getting Monday nights, we're getting Sunday nights, we're getting
Thanksgiving Day, which means there's potential for some really good
audio gold. So I've got a montage of some audio
from the game in the main segment today.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Also going to talk a little.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Bit about the WWE like farce of a fight that
took place at Jerry World Friday night. Have some audio,
believe it or not from Jerry from the Tyson Paul
fight Friday night, So we'll cover a little bit of
that before we jump into our full NFL segment. College
football recap in the main segment tomorrow, NBA on Thursday,

(02:41):
so on and so forth, and then we'll squeeze in
the Pigskin previews on Friday, along with another edition of
Who Won the Internet? Ended up having to take some
time last week away to get some business settled. Have
a new project in the can coming soon through iHeart
should be fun. I'll talk about that more at the

(03:02):
end of the episode today. We've got so much to cover.
Don't want to bog us down with formatics at the
top here, because a lot has happened since the last
time we talked. Most notably, I would say we finally
got word on exactly what happened with Pop, and I
think it was probably what a lot.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Of people suspected.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
You just start putting the pieces together and you might
have been able to come up with the fact that he, indeed,
turns out, did have a mild stroke that Saturday, now
almost two two and a half weeks ago. Sounds like
it was a scary situation too, because from Sham's reporting
and others, it sounds like it happened, you know, in

(03:45):
front of the team in some capacity. So all the
thoughts with Pop as he is away already starting a
rehabilitation program. I know all of this is old news
to y'all, but I would be remiss if I did
not mention this before we jump into what I watched
this past weekend, because that's going to be a lot

(04:06):
of Spurs talk, but I wanted to make sure we
mentioned this here at the top before we jumped into
the actual details of the.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Game from Saturday night.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
And I don't know about y'all, but you know this one,
this one really hit in a way that I think
drove home the idea or the fact I should say
that not only am I getting old, we're all getting old.
And obviously pop at his age more susceptible. But when
you start, you know, I think back to being a

(04:37):
teenager early twenties, when you know, Spurs were winning championships
every odd year, and that's that's the version of pop
that is always in my head, not the version of
pop that could potentially have medical emergencies pregame in the
locker room. It was a bit of a sobering realization

(04:59):
that the years are starting.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
To add up really really quickly.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
And I know, obviously I see them the listener demographics.
A lot of y'all are in your twenties. Trust me,
give it a decade and you'll start feeling some of
these emotions I'm describing now I know, I also see
the demographics and see a lot of y'all in your fifties,
So I know, y'all you know what I'm talking about here.
You remember this aging curve and how it starts to

(05:27):
really hit in your late thirties. But the Pop news
was pretty sobering, I think is the absolute best word
for it, because unfortunately, the end of an era is
right around the corner. We all knew it was coming soon,
but the sobering reality is that it might potentially be

(05:47):
here sooner than we even expected.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Now, all that being said, Mitch.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Johnson's done a pretty good job filling in for Pop
so far. Spurs ended up going three and two on
that last five game homestand that was my subtle shift
into what I watched last night last night, being last weekend,
specifically being the Spurs lost Saturday night up in Dallas.

(06:15):
And of course it's really hard to judge anything from
that game with Wemby sitting out, missing it with a
Bruce knee after you know, unfortunate timing because he had
been on an absolute insane hot streak.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
You know.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Not the fifty point game grabs a lot of attention,
but within the details of his stats over the last
three or four games. Now, we were starting to see
a return to that efficient scoring that we know he's
obviously capable of. You know, the the two games, the
loss to the Jazz and then the bounce back win

(06:51):
over the Kings, he shot over fifty percent on field
goals in both of those games, so total shots over
fifty percent. That was the first time he had been
over fifty percent in a game since the second game
of the season against the Rockets. Obviously, the three pointers
get a lot of attention. Over his last four games,

(07:11):
he was almost fifty percent on threes alone. He was
twenty four for fifty over the last four games. So
right as we were starting to see that return to
efficient shooting numbers, he's now out with the Bruce knee.
And really unfortunate because it seems like the Spurs team
so far this year, as soon as they get one

(07:34):
guy back, two guys end up on the injured list.
And you know, we had Malachi Brandon get hurt. It
wasn't long term. He's back coming off the bench again.
Trade Jones back from injury now sliding back into his
spot in the rotation. But of course it doesn't matter
who you get back from the injured list. If Wimby's

(07:56):
on it, you potentially are in a world of trouble,
especially when you have to go up against the best
team or one of the best teams in the West,
like the Thunder tonight in the heralded and historic tradition,
rich heritage, rich NBA Cup presented by Emirates and the

(08:18):
Saudi's or whatever the hell they're calling it now, And
we'll cover whatever happens in that game on tomorrow's show.
But I mentioned, you know, Brandham Jones, even Devin Vessel
is officially off the injured list now, so we're not
getting any questionable or doubtful designations from any of that trio.

(08:39):
But Wemby is doubtful for tonight against OKC. I would
imagine he sits this one out, which is unfortunate because
it's not like he's sitting out versus you know, Toronto.
No offense Canada, but a lot of offense Canada, or
Detroit or any of the bottom dwellers of the Eastern

(09:00):
Conference or hell even well, I shouldn't say the Jazz.
The Spurs have had their trouble with the Jazz. They're
going to get a couple more opportunities here quickly to
make up for that bad Jazz loss. But you know,
for Wimby to miss against the Mavericks on the road
in Dallas and now potentially tonight against the Thunder back

(09:21):
at home, you hate to see him miss out on those,
you know, prime matchups against the best teams in the West, because,
of course, if the Spurs are going to have any shot,
any hopes, any chance of making a play in spot,
you got to knock off some of these upper echelon
teams within the conference. And Saturday night end up losing

(09:44):
one ten to ninety three up in Dallas without Wimby.
Hopefully tonight we get a little more of a collective
pick me up from the rest of the roster. But
it's hard enough playing the Thunder Playing them without Wimby
is a whole nother ballgame. MAVs ended up winning that
game Saturday night really based off the third quarter. I mean,

(10:04):
they outscored the Spurs thirty eight to eighteen in the
third quarter, a trend with the Spurs so far this year.
Those third quarters have been a little rocky. They've been
in games till halftime and then for whatever reason, can't
continue carry that momentum through the second half. And again,
just looking at the stats from that game, you can

(10:25):
see the impact of missing Wimby has on the defensive unit.
Spurs get outscored forty six to twenty two in the
paint through those first three quarters, and then that fourth
quarter was really just window dressing for the MAVs. But
there's eighty two of them. You chalk that one up,
move on to the next. The Spurs do have another

(10:46):
mini home stand here, three game homestand Oklahoma City tonight,
Utah Golden State the other two games on the home stand, and.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Then they travel to Utah.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
So over the course of these next four games, two
of the best teams in the West, and you're playing
Utah twice. Five hundred is a must. You've got to
beat Utah twice. You've already lost to them once. Utah
is one of the worst teams in the Western Conference.
You can't drop multiple games to them, especially not over

(11:17):
the course of ten days. But if you're going to
have any hopes of climbing into one of those play
in spots, you really got to steal one of these
games against Oklahoma City or Golden State. Take care of
your business against Utah and try to get some positive
momentum rolling in the standings. Try to start passing some

(11:38):
people because we're going to talk about it later in
the week. But the Western Conference is so ridiculously deep
when you compare it to the East right now. I mean,
at one point a couple of days ago, there were
only two teams in the East that were over five hundred.
There was a pretty solid large group of teams that
were right at five hundred. But you just compare East

(12:02):
to West, and the Spurs record right now would have
them not only in a play in spot, it would
be a playoff spot. Potentially they would already be maybe
a game and a half two games out of climbing
into home court advantage for the playoffs. So you can't
pick your conference, but you gotta take care of business

(12:24):
against these conference opponents that you're going to have to
play more often and again. Hopefully that starts tonight with
the Thunder in town for a historic NBA Cup matchup.
Elsewhere in non football related sports news, I mentioned the
last time we talked that the Stars were one in
three since leaving the US to go play in Finland. Well, boy,

(12:49):
they snapped out of that funk in a historic way
a couple games ago, end up beating the Penguins seven
to one. And not only that, they scored of those
seven goals in the first period, only the second time
they've scored six goals in a period since they moved
from Minnesota to Dallas, the first time they've ever done

(13:11):
that in the first period of a game as the
Dallas Stars and not the Minnesota North Stars. And then
what did they do the next game? After scoring six
in a period, they turned around and scored seven again,
this time against another Eastern opponent, the Jim Montgomery led
Boston Bruins. Well, i should say the formerly Jim Montgomery

(13:34):
led Boston Bruins. Apparently the Bruins put word out today
that Jim Montgomery services are no longer needed with their
hockey club and that Star seven to two victory might
have had something to do with it. So seven goals
in back to back games and then on Saturday are
really closely contested two to one victory over the team

(13:57):
in Minnesota now Minnesota Wild. So the Stars are bouncing back,
albeit they did lose last night four to two to
the Anaheim Ducks, which is kind of interesting as well,
because you'll remember we talked about at the beginning of
the season, the Stars have now charted their own path
when it comes to how fans can watch the games.

(14:18):
And if you aren't aware and you want to watch
a little hockey, it's completely free if you are in
one of the Stars DMA areas, and because there's no
other hockey really anywhere close to Dallas that encompasses a
large part of four states. So down here you are
a Stars affiliate, all you got to do is download

(14:41):
the Victory Plus app, which is where things get kind
of interesting because obviously every team is going through this
and trying to figure out how they're going to get
their product to their fan base.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Well, the Victory Plus app is.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Also home to the Anaheim Ducks, so we had both
the teams that are on the Stars app or the
app that was developed by the Stars people in Dallas.
It's the same people that do the Dude Perfect crap
all of their streaming stuff. I shouldn't call it crap.
Those dudes are millionaires ten times over. And the thirty

(15:18):
for thirty wasn't as bad as I expected it to be,
so I'll give them that as well, but both the
teams that use the victory plus app faced off last night. Unfortunately,
Stars ended up losing that game four to two.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
And then there.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Was the spectacle that went down Friday night in Jerry World.
Netflix first endeavor into live streaming, or at least live
streaming of sports that I can remember, unless you count
what was it, the Kobe Yashi and what's his name?

(15:53):
Joey Chestnutt the hot dog eating contest that they had.
If you want to consider that a sport, I guess
they live streamed that thing, or that might not have
even been live. Dump everything I just said. We're gonna
say this was Netflix's first adventure into live streaming sports
without having done the research, because whether it actually factually

(16:15):
was their first time or not, the production value of
that whole operation made it feel like it was the
first time a bunch of high school students had tried
to stream a playoff football game. It was rough, and obviously,
you know, the buffering issues were the biggest meme. I
would say my screen was stuck on twenty five percent

(16:39):
loading more than I actually think I got to see
any of the fights. It would go from twenty five
percent to fifty one percent and then back down to
twenty five percent and then the app would just crash.
So I know I'm not alone in that, but really,
I don't know. If you're out there and you were
upset about that thing the way that went down Friday night,

(17:02):
that feels like it's on you. As one of my
radio idols from back in my home neck of the
woods would say, if you expected more, that's on you.
Shout out, Fernando. That was a WWE like production. I mean,
just look at some of the leaks that have now

(17:23):
come out about the contracts if you believe that or not.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
I mean, just even if.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
You go back and watch it again with the idea
that both of them might have had restrictions and the
overall end goal was just make sure that thing gets
to eight rounds.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
I mean it was I'm not so sure.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
It was absolutely fixed, but there were absolutely enough protections
put into the contracts to make sure that thing got
to eight rounds because I don't think anybody was going
to get knocked out, and both of them wanted it
that way, especially as much as I wanted to see
Iron Mike knockout Jake Paul Dude, he's a fifty eight

(18:07):
year old man who had no legs underneath him. Hell,
he almost died six months ago. He's talked about it
in the fight lead up. I mean, he lost like
a quarter of his total blood volume in his body,
like he very nearly died leading up to this fight,
which is why it got postponed the first time. And

(18:29):
every bit of it showed in the same way that
Mike Tyson showed his ass after the pre fight interview.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
I mean, the whole.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
Thing was equally train wreck slash magnificent because it's one
of the best examples in a long time that supports
the idea that we truly are just living in a matrix.
Fifty eight year old iron Mike Tyson at one time
one of the scariest, if not scariest human out side

(19:00):
of Polepot to walk the earth in my lifetime, versus
one of the biggest YouTuber influencer whatever you want to
call the Paul Brothers. It just felt like a perfect
encapsulation of where we are currently as a culture. And
I think I if you're inclined to say, well I

(19:21):
didn't like that, I'm right there with you. I mean
I watched every minute of it. You know, Mario, local
kid Mario Barrios ended up getting the split decision tie
in one of the undercard fights. He was in full
control through the first five rounds and then the fight
really flipped on its head, basically ended up being a

(19:41):
point for point draw over the or over the last
three rounds. Just to get a tie out of it.
He retains his belt. That was an absolute real fight.
That was a fight you would normally see on a
undercard of a major pay per view. Y'all can criticize me,
call soft, call me, call me whatever you want to

(20:02):
call me. I don't like watching girls fight. I have
no time in my life for that. I hear great
things about that fight. You know, I've got a local
buddy here in the neighborhood that you know, owns a
bar restaurant. Shout out Ernie Charity Bar. He told me
that was the best fight he's seen in years. It
was absolutely the best fight he's seen this calendar year.

(20:25):
And he's not the only one, I mean, outside of
the you know online mob that wanted to tell everybody
how great that fight was. Everyone I've talked to, that's
the fight they talk about there. There's not much to
talk about with Tyson Paul. You're only talking Mario if
you're locked into that weight class or keeping tabs on

(20:45):
local kids. But that the Chick fight was the best
fight on the card, and again, that's a fight I
think you would absolutely see on a normal.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Pay per view card.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
So you know, the first fight of the night, the
Brazilian influencer versus the Indian guy.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
No time for that in my life.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
But watched all twelve rounds of Mario's fight, skipped the
Chick fight, tuned back in or tried to tune back
in despite all the buffering issues to catch Tyson Paul
and it again.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
It was so perfect that.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
That thing was held at Jerry World because it was
spectacle over substance, which lines up pretty well with the
way things are going right now for your Dallas Cowboys.
That's your third place, Dallas Cowboys, and lucky to be
in third. It was WWE masquerading as boxing, But again

(21:39):
I would tell you somehow it was still entertaining. The
disappointment was somehow entertaining because I don't know, you know,
the roommate and I I've turned her into a bit
of a boxing fan, which is kind of weird to me,
but we were watching it and she kept saying, you know,
what did people expect? Because she was seeing all the

(22:01):
reactions online. You know what did what did people expect?
It's a fifty eight year old man who almost died
six months ago. What were you really looking to get
out of it? I mean, it looked like Mike was
showing some flashes in the early rounds, like he you know,
had his legs, but by the third round he was

(22:22):
basically fighting to stay upright, to stay in a proper position,
to stay you know, in any kind of attacking position
because his legs are gone.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
He's an old man, and.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
Sure, Jake Paul gets to add to his career accomplishments
he beat Mike Tyson in a boxing exhibition.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
But it was exactly that.

Speaker 4 (22:43):
It was an exhibition put on by promoters that convinced
over seventy three thousand.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
People to go to that thing.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
And if you checked in on one of the best
social media follows out there, Dallas Texas TV, there was
a lot more action in the stands than there was
in the ring. I think nine people ended up getting arrested,
multiple fights that the police didn't even respond to because
it was, you know, it seemed like you get that

(23:14):
many dudes, that many boxing fans in an arena that big,
You're gonna have fights every corner, especially when the crowd
starts to turn as the Tyson Paul fight went on,
as they start to realize, like I paid how much
to be here to watch this? Yeah, you're gonna get
a lot of fights in that situation. But I think

(23:35):
the roommate had the best analysis of the night. What
did you expect? Because what I watched was exactly what
I expected going into it, and still I was somehow entertained. Now,
possibly the most entertaining part of it, while also being
the most frustrating part of it, was watching Netflix struggle

(23:56):
to actually produce the event in any level of proper execution.
I mean, there were microphones not working, there were obviously
the buffer issues. Hell, there was Rosie Perez for some reason.
It was a spectacle that didn't make any sense, and

(24:17):
that's kind of what made it awesome. I've got some
audio here to get into, but we got to start with.
Of course, if Jerry Jones is gonna host it in
his stadium, you bet he's gonna get on the pregame
pre fight desk.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
He's going to do an interview.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
He's gonna tell you how how happy he is to
see the stadium get used like this. He's gonna he's
gonna close the curtains for the fight so the fight
fans don't have the sun in their eyes. He won't
do that for his thirty million dollar wide receiver, but
he'll do it for a bunch of affliction wearing guys
watching a fifty eight year old fight. A YouTuber got

(24:56):
to close the curtains for that. God forbid we have
any upset customers. But Jerry had a funny moment that
immediately started to spread like wildfire. We got a bit
of a similar blockchain calm moment where I think Jerry
just learned what Netflix was Friday morning, similar to how

(25:18):
he just learned what Bitcoin was right before he did
that blockchain calm press conference. This is what it sounded like,
Jerry talking about how excited he is for the new
partnership between Netflix and the NFL. We're all being introduced

(25:38):
to Netflix. We're so excited in the NFL about Netflix
becoming a June charter of our future. Just tonight here
since a chance to go to for Did you catch
that there at the beginning, we're all being introduced to Netflix? No, Jerry,
you just got introduced to Netflix. You heard about the

(25:59):
Netflix deal when the NFL signed it. Uh, Netflix is
this was a trial run for their Christmas Day games.
They're gonna they're gonna stream coming up. But the concept
or the idea that we're just now getting introduced to Netflix,
and I'm sure in Jerry's mind, his content, his context
there was, you know, the NFL is just getting introduced

(26:23):
to Netflix, and this is Netflix, you know, getting introduced
to live sports streaming. You can make excuses, uh to
explain the context there, but it sounded a whole hell
of a lot like, uh, we're gonna blockchain com is
gonna have a lot of importance moving forward within this

(26:44):
organization the Dallas Cowboys, Well now it's Netflix is gonna
have a lot of importance moving forward, and we're all
just getting.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Introduced to it.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
As soon as I heard him say that, I just had,
you know, PTSD flashbacks of him putting salt on on
a mcgriddle. Just how disconnected that man is from any
touch realm fragment of sand of reality, and that's the
clip that I think went most viral regarding Jerry from

(27:15):
the fight. But there was another clip that stopped me
down as soon as I heard it, and it really
is less about Jerry, although Jerry has a funny ender,
it was really more about how inept and how unprepared
Netflix appeared to be for the whole production, And it

(27:35):
just so happened to also feature the playmaker himself, Mike Irvin,
who swooped in to save the day.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
I mean, you've had Maddy Kakao, you've had Canelo, you've
had Errol Spends.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
How is the buzz compared coming up to this fight?
We've had good?

Speaker 5 (28:08):
Thank you, Yes, thank you.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
Let me start again. I don't know that you can
top this.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
Just the perfection of Jerry after the microphone not working
for his full answer to end it with, well, let
me just say, I'm not sure you can top this. No, Jerry,
I'm not sure if Netflix tried their hardest, they could
not have topped the debacle that that was Friday night
in your stadium. It's just a miracle that the roof

(28:38):
didn't start falling on anybody in the crowd as it
did last night. We'll get into that, of course when
we talk cowboys. But just the idea of Jerry speaking
into a silent void for almost twenty seconds. I enjoy
knowing that, for at least twenty seconds, we didn't have
to hear the man when he thought he was giving

(29:00):
some profound thoughts that only he could provide to such
a historic night in Jerry world. And of course Mike
Irvin eventually says, I think we lost the mic and
hands his mic to Jerry, just in time for him
to say, well, let me say this again. I don't
think we could top that. That was the clip that

(29:20):
kept replaying in my head on repeat all weekend, just
Jerry saying I don't think we could top this. I
think the roommate's getting tired of me doing fake Jerry voice,
saying that anytime she mentions anything. She made some scallops
for me on Sunday, and I don't think we can
top this. Everything was getting the Jerry treatment after I

(29:43):
heard that interview. So again, if you believe Netflix, sixty
million plus people tuned in to watch that thing Friday night.
The attendance was the second biggest fight Jerry's ever held
there over seventy three thousand people, and I think in
the end, as the roommate said, what did you expect?

(30:05):
Because I think that's exactly what we got. Now that
we've gotten that embarrassing moment from Jerry's weekend out of
the way, let's talk about last night's embarrassing moment for Jerry.
It's time to talk some cowboys. And I mentioned it
at the top of the episode. I tried to take
less notes, to do less show prep for this one, cuz,

(30:29):
to be quite honest with you, doing all of this
solo as starting to take a bit of a toll
on the old mental health, as cliche as that sounds,
tried to dial it back a little bit. And now
somehow have already gone half an hour before we've even
got to the main segment. So not going to talk
as much cowboys as usual. But instead of that, I

(30:52):
put together a little montage of some of the funnier
audio moments from the broadcast last night. Hope you and Joe,
we're going to talk to Lisa salteris a little later
about Dallas, but she joins us right off the top.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
As the top here at at and T Stadium is
something of a story, Lisa, what can you tell us?

Speaker 1 (31:12):
Yes, Scott, Well, it was a bizarre series of events
that happened here at at and T Stadium about forty
five minutes or so ago. I was standing in this
exact spot, getting ready to do a hit for Sports
Center when bits of debris started falling from the sky.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
They were opening the roof here and you could see
just big chunks of what looked like dust, paper, plastic,
And then all of a sudden this came down out
of the sky. A big piece of metal just kind
of floated down and fell onto the field.

Speaker 6 (31:44):
Again.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
This happened when they started opening the roof, all.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
Right, Lisa, something we did in anticipate we would be
keeping a literal eye on.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
Thankfully we have a roof over our heads.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
There, no joke.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
That's a big chunk.

Speaker 4 (31:56):
The bottom then already fell out in Dallas, the top
might as well too.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
It's cool.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
It's very metaphorical Dallas this season. Yeah, this guy's falling
it all over so the best.

Speaker 6 (32:07):
Way to start a broadcast, no doubt about it. The
room is open for the first time for a Cowboys
game in over two calendar years.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
Oh MC closed it and he said for Aubrey.

Speaker 6 (32:22):
When they get to this spot on the field, he
believes they're basically at the back edge of field goal range.
The guy's been unbelievable and so they're right there and
there's his record in a year and a half here
at home.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
I don't think there's any doubt, Joe. I mean, if
they wanted to, they're in his range. I mean, this
is three points in their pocket right now.

Speaker 6 (32:45):
Forty yard try hits the upright and that is a
full network jinx. I'm not taking the fall for this.
It was everybody. I'm not either.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
Oh no, oh my god.

Speaker 5 (33:04):
What were doing?

Speaker 3 (33:07):
We can not be on the same page. Do you
see does he stop? I think he stops. Got a
little actually going out here. We got to get three.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
We can focus on the fight.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
We can focus on the fight right now.

Speaker 6 (33:21):
Well, I mean it just had one down there on
Friday night, right It's like there's a little fighting going
on here.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
I think this one is better than the one Friday night.

Speaker 6 (33:32):
Second and six rush pull knocked out of his hand
and ends up in the arms of Dayton. He gets
it knocked out by Petree and the return for the
touchdown by Derek Barnett. First defensive touchdown of the season
for the Texis. It's then'll lot a hat trick or something.
Don't here, yeah, oh.

Speaker 5 (33:54):
My god, oh my gosh, Jake, the lineman curved up
on the run. Not get ball security, right, you see
a lineman running with the ball, You guys are going
to try to strip him. They stripped him, run it
back for a Touchdown's a d lyman's dream right there.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
It's too on the same.

Speaker 6 (34:15):
Film for a fact.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
He doesn't have a celebration ready because did not see
this coming whatsoever.

Speaker 3 (34:20):
Just excited to get in the end zone and now
get his quick easy.

Speaker 6 (34:23):
Kin to the oxygen, take and take what they say.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
He is a.

Speaker 6 (34:38):
Text up.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
That crowd shot in Dallas kind of kind of says
it all right there they uh, they're.

Speaker 4 (34:45):
Either they either left to avoid the falling ceiling panels
or the game's not going too well.

Speaker 5 (34:50):
And I think it is five games in a five
games in a row at home that they've been down
at some point by more than twenty points.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
That's not that's not good.

Speaker 5 (34:59):
I think six if you go back to a playoffs
last year.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
No, Eli, that's not very good. And you are correct,
that is now six straight home games. If you go
back to the playoff game last year against Green Bay,
where Dallas has found themselves down at home by twenty
points or more in all of those games, and kind
of like the roommates said about the Tyson fight, what

(35:27):
did you expect last night? The Texans are a good team,
a playoff team, not a great team trying to get
to a great team level status. The Cowboys are terrible.
They were terrible with their starting quarterback. Now they're on
their backup. They've got a list of other injuries they're
dealing with. What did you expect? It feels like Vegas

(35:47):
did the Cowboys a favor by making that spread only
seven points to begin with, because it felt like it
was going to be a clean Texans cover ever since
that line got announced earlier this week. A lot of
laughing on the broadcast last night. There's a lot of
these national talking heads, well even Troy included as well.

(36:08):
But you know, Jason Kelsey's enjoying the cowboys downfall as
a career Philadelphia Eagle. He got a good laugh, got
a good line in on the pregame show. Ryan Clark's
having fun with it, while poor Marcus spears has to
sit there at the desk with both of them while
they rip apart his former employer, the Dallas Cowboys. We

(36:30):
got Bill Belichick giving us a solid laugh on the
Manning Cast. I will say now that the Cowboys I
have no hope, no faith in the rest of this season.
The Manning Cast was the broadcast I watched for the
majority of last night because normally, when it's an actual
important Cowboys game, I don't want to hear two dudes

(36:54):
talking about the game. I want to hear two dudes
calling the game properly, like Joe and Troy. But I
figured if there was ever a time for me to
stop down and check in on the Manning Cast, it
was last night. With the Cowboys having absolutely nothing to
play for at this point, might as well listen to
who they had on. They had Belichick, they had Jim Gaffigan,

(37:18):
and then that was JJ Watt there in a couple
clips as well, again referring back to the ceiling falling
in pregame, so kind of like the Netflix issues were
a perfect encapsulation of how things are going for Jerry
Jones right now. Jason Kelsey's right, metal sheets falling from

(37:39):
the roof that's a pretty good metaphor for how things
are going right now for not only Jerry Jones, but
the rest of the Dallas Cowboys. And in that way,
I will say, this season continues to amaze me.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
And we've had everything.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
We've had the sun, which led Jerry Jones to suggest
he might just blow the damn stadium up and rebuild it. Well,
now the stadium's falling apart. You cannot write this script
if this was if you had told me half of
the things that have happened this season were going to happen.
If you had told me that in the preseason, I

(38:15):
would have said, absolutely not. You're writing a comedy. You're
writing a Farley Brothers comedy. You're writing slapstick Monty Python
level humor. That's why this season continues to amaze me,
and we're not There's not a whole lot of reason
to break down these games, play by play, drive by drive.

(38:36):
Moving forward, all you need to know they increased their
chances of getting a top five draft pick. That's all
that matters anymore. No catastrophic injuries that are going to
linger into training camp next year and make sure you
can get the best possible draft pick. Available, which means
tank by all means possible organic tankingdra Oh, you're healthy

(39:01):
to come back now, let's go ahead and keep you
out the entire year. Just get healthy for training camp
next season. Jake Ferguson, you left with a concussion last night.
Let's make sure it takes four to six weeks to
recover from that. Tyler Smith, Tyler Guidon both injured left
the game last night. Take your time, fellas as long

(39:24):
as you need. We just want you healthy for next year. Hell,
even Zach Martin, if you don't retire and do come back,
don't waste any of your available games left in your
career on this season. Get your body right as healthy
as you can be for next season, for training camp,
for the offseason program. All options to tank should be

(39:47):
on the table. And again you want you want to
break down the fake punt? They ran again back to
back weeks with fake punts.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
You want to break down.

Speaker 4 (39:57):
Nico Collins should have been touched down on the first
play of the game.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
How funny was that? Again?

Speaker 4 (40:04):
This season continues to amaze in ways never thought possible.
Of course, Nico's touchdown ends up coming back for a penalty,
but that was a sign of things to come. It
really ended up being Joe Mixon's night. He runs for
three touchdowns. Well, look here, I am again starting to
break down actual stats from this game. None of that matters.

(40:27):
The Cowboys improved their draft position. That's all that matters
through these last seven games. That and funny montages. Because
I hope you all enjoyed listening to that as much
as I enjoyed putting it together. I'll even I'll be
completely honest with you, I have my notes here. Down
twenty to ten, Dallas takes Phil goal off board and

(40:49):
doesn't score. Who cares? I mean, honestly, it was a
ten point game. You needed a Phil goal and a
touchdown to tie it. You weren't going to score two touchdowns.
Why not keep the points on the board. As hard
as it's been for your offense to put any points
on the board. Your main weapon on offense Brandon Aubrey,

(41:09):
who also missed from forty yards Again, add that to
the list of things in the script that you wouldn't
have believed going into last night. If you do want
to actually break down the game, you took points off
the board and then you have the fumble touchdown on
the next possession, where the Texans now are up twenty
seven to ten and the game's truly over. So again,

(41:33):
I've already wasted too much time talking about this game.
I'm gonna have fun with the Montages moving forward. I
think that'll be the main way we cover the Cowboys.
Currently they have the ninth pick in the draft, but
there is a lot of room.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
To move up obviously.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
Have the Giants and Panthers still on the schedule who
are ahead of them. Have the Bengals who are only
only have one win more than them got to lose
all those games lose out If you stay at three wins,
you look at some of the teams right now that
actually have a chance to pass, you do everything you
can to make sure that number in the win column

(42:14):
doesn't grow beyond where it is currently. One last stat
I will mention, the comedy of seeing Cooper Rush throw
the ball fifty five times is everything you need to
know about how this season will be received in the future.
When you look back at a box score and see
Cooper Rush through the ball over fifty times in a

(42:37):
thirty four to ten loss, that tells you everything you
need to know about this season. Again enough said, Let's
talk about the rest of the league real quick before
we get out of here. Going back to last Thursday,
Eagles end up beating the Commanders twenty six to eighteen
on Thursday Night Football.

Speaker 3 (42:56):
They now take the lead in the.

Speaker 4 (42:58):
Division, which I think a few weeks ago I said,
I expect the Commanders to fall back closer to the
wild card race than the division race. They've held on
longer than I expected, but it feels like the Eagles
are in prime position to end up taking this division.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
Now.

Speaker 4 (43:16):
Giants on bye week this last week, but we did
get the news that apparently Daniel Jones career with the
New York Football Giants is officially over. They didn't just
demote him to back up. He's full third string quarterback
now emergency quarterback. Basically, he's there Trey Lance back when

(43:36):
Dak was healthy. His time in New York is done.
Still a couple of years left on that deal, I think,
or maybe this year. In one more year, so they're
going to have to eat some cap money to get
rid of him. That means we get Tommy DeVito and
his agent back on the sideline for Thanksgiving. Get ready
for that, folks, Cooper Rush versus Tommy DeVito, just like

(43:58):
the league drew it up when they were looking at
their prime time Thanksgiving Day matchups. I will say, first
time in a long, long, long time that I am
really looking forward to watching the Lions on Thanksgiving as
opposed to the Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
Of course, for.

Speaker 4 (44:16):
Whatever reason, my little brother growing up huge Barry Sanders fan. Well,
I shouldn't say for whatever reason because of Madden. He
was a huge Barry Sanders fan. So we've always had
pseudo fandom for the Lions through video games, and of
course now with Glen Rose's own Dan Campbell leading things
in Detroit, you can bet our TV's back at Thanksgiving

(44:37):
will be locked into that game. Cowboys game will be on,
but we'll probably be playing trivial pursuit by then. Speaking
of the Lions will knock them out next they humiliated
the Jags. Possibly the only team in the league that
is in a worse off position than the Cowboys this
year is the Jaguars, a team that also had similar aspirations.

(45:02):
You know, playoff making the playoffs was the minimum, and
like the Cowboys, they are so far away from that goal.
And also like the Cowboys, it appears as if they
have a dead man walking at head coach and Doug
Peterson rest of the NFC North.

Speaker 3 (45:18):
Packers beat the Bears.

Speaker 4 (45:19):
On another blocked field goal as time expired. Last week
it was the Broncos and the Chiefs. Chiefs blocked a
field goal to stay undefeated. This week it was Packers
blocking a field goal to beat the Bears after the
Bears had a nice drive to get down into phield
goal range right there at the end of the game.

(45:39):
Packers end up getting the win on a blocked field goal,
and then the paper Tiger Vikings they end up beating
the Titans twenty three to thirteen in a game that
of the thirteen points the Titans scored, six of them
came on a ninety eight yard touchdown from Will Levis.
Things I didn't expect to see Sunday when I woke up.

(46:02):
But Vikings still get that win. So the NFC North
continues to be the best division on the NFC side
of the bracket. You know, Packers, Lions, Vikings all going
to be solid playoff teams, it looks like, and part
of why the NFC North is going to get multiple
wild card teams, if not all three of them is

(46:24):
because the NFC South is terrible. Only the division winner
will probably end up making the playoffs there.

Speaker 3 (46:31):
But on Sunday, the.

Speaker 4 (46:33):
Division leading Falcons get the doors blown off of them
by the Broncos end up losing thirty eight to six.
Falcons appear to be safe unless they just absolutely crater
because no one else in that division I think is
going to catch them. The Buccaneers had a good chance
they the way the schedule lined up, they could have
made ground and moved into first place, but at this

(46:55):
point it looks like the Falcons are in a good spot.
Speaking of the Bucks, Bucks and Pan were on by,
although the Saints' good interim vibes continued. They beat the
hapless Browns thirty five to fourteen, turning our attentions out West,
a division that is getting really really interesting now to

(47:15):
the point where the forty nine ers now sit in
last place in the NFC West after their lost Sunday
to the Seahawks. They lose that game twenty to seventeen,
and even more importantly, Brock Purdy comes out of that
game injured. It seems like a day to day injury
to his throwing shoulder, something to monitor as the week

(47:37):
goes on. Here again, that's a last place forty nine
Ers team that absolutely cannot afford to lose their starting quarterback.
Division leading Cardinals were on a bye this week, which
sounds crazy to say. The Niners are in last place
and the Cardinals are the division leading Cardinals on a

(47:58):
bye week to look out for, though, the Rams get
back to five hundred twenty eight to twenty two win
over the Patriots, and the Rams have the weapons to
be really dangerous if they can just get into the
dance into the playoffs. That division is absolutely wide open.
Every single team is five and five except for the Cardinals,

(48:20):
who are six and four in leading the division.

Speaker 3 (48:23):
So a lot of.

Speaker 4 (48:24):
Movements still left out West. And because of that, it's
still early in the season to start. I think looking
at playoff picture week by week, the division standings are
just kind of worth checking in on. But there's still
kind of like the college football playoff rankings. Anything you
talk about this week I don't think is going to

(48:44):
hold up by the end of the season except for
one division, and that's Buffalo's division, the AFC East. In fact,
we'll jump to the AFC right now, Bills into the
Chiefs undefeated season. They beat Kansas City thirty to twenty one.
Now do it in the playoffs. Josh Allen can beat

(49:05):
the Chiefs in the regular season, Now do it in
the playoffs. Josh Allen and Lamar, you gotta do it
in the playoffs against Mahomes. It's great to end their
undefeated season, but the Chiefs aren't going anywhere. This is
not going to be a roadblock or a season defining
loss for them. If anything, it might be a season

(49:28):
defining loss in the sense that it makes them wake
up a little bit. Because that undefeated record was I
think they would even admit, to a man, pretty soft.
They were getting by without a lot of explosive offensive plays,
getting by on blocked field goals at the end of games,
relying on a defense that was starting it was doing

(49:50):
just enough to keep them in games, and then the
offense was doing just enough to win the games. But
their luck finally ran out in Buffalo. The rest of
that division, no one can catch the Bills. The Dolphins
did win, they beat the Raiders thirty four to nineteen,
but they're so far behind they're they're just hoping, clinging

(50:10):
to any hope of getting into a wild card spot,
and then the team that again, talking kind of like
Jags and Cowboys, I think you can add the Jets
into that group with playoff aspirations at minimum and currently
sit with a top ten draft pick. They fall to
the Colts twenty eight twenty seven. Colts turnback to Anthony

(50:32):
Richardson at quarterback. You got to give the guy games.
You drafted him, you got to develop him. Joe Flacco's
not taking you anywhere, and he ends up getting the win,
plays well too. He's the kind of guy that I
would love to have on my team, but also hate
to have on my team. He's exciting when he's good,
but when he's bad, he's bad. And the add on

(50:54):
top of that, the injury prone early start to his career,
but again back in the starters role, gets the win.
And then the AFC North, where old school football still reigns.
Supreme Steelers get an eighteen to sixteen win over Lamar
Jackson and the Ravens. Six field goals from Chris Boswell,

(51:16):
the team in the NFL that kicks more field goals
than anybody, the team that plays arguably the most nineteen
seventy style of football especially on defense. It's a miracle
the Cowboys won that game on Sunday night in Pittsburgh.
The further we get away from that win, it's hard
to wrap my head around the idea that it actually

(51:38):
did happen. And I did watch a game winning drive
conducted by Dak Prescott caught by Jalen Tolbert to give
the Steelers one of their two losses so far this year.
It's going to be a Steelers team that is nasty
come playoff time, just based on their style of play
and their ability to dictate their opponent. Playing that style,

(52:01):
forcing them to play Steelers football instead of allowing the
Ravens to get that high powered offense really turned up
really churning. But if we're all being serious with ourselves,
I'm still more confident in the Ravens than the Steelers
come playoffs, just because of the weapons available to the
Ravens on offense. That Steelers team's going to be a

(52:23):
hard out. But I would still expect the Ravens to
make a deeper run. But eighteen sixteen, they got the
win and now hold the lead in the division over Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (52:32):
Lastly, the AFC West.

Speaker 4 (52:35):
The Chargers are sneaky good, kind of like the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (52:38):
Being sneaky good.

Speaker 4 (52:39):
The Chargers play a nice style of football, a great
playoff style of football. First year under Harball, already seeing
that classic Hardball identity. They move to seven and three
with a win over the Bengals thirty four twenty seven.
The Bengals are running out of time obviously in that
division with Pittsburgh and Baltimore. You're not getting back into

(53:03):
the divisional race. You're praying kind of like the Dolphins,
to try to slide into the back end of the
wild card hunt. But we'll check in on the actual
playoff picture as we get closer to the final three
four weeks of the season. Right now, there's still so
much volatility left in the standings. It doesn't feel like

(53:23):
a good use of mine or your time. And now
we're approaching an hour on this operation. After I swear
I took less notes this week, I did less prep,
and still somehow are going to go just as long,
if not longer than usual. So we'll close it out
with this what I'm watching tonight, of course, thunder Spurs

(53:45):
NBA Cup. We'll talk some college football on the program tomorrow.
Got a recap this past Saturday in college football, we
got to see more chaos, which is exactly what I'm
rooting for. I can't wait to talk that tomorrow. I
mentioned at the top of the show today working on
another project in conjunction with iHeart.

Speaker 3 (54:07):
I'm really excited.

Speaker 4 (54:08):
I can tell you I'm working with a Texas radio
Hall of Famer on a It's not going to be
a long form podcast like this one. It's going to
be more of a kind of a daily hitter, you know,
get in, get out, your work is done kind of deal.
But really, I'm most excited to get to work with
a creative partner again. I mean, obviously, you guys know

(54:32):
I mentioned it also in this episode. Doing all this
solo is it's a lot to tackle, and I personally
at times am struggling have struggled with I don't like
the content when it's just me screaming blowhard sports opinions.
That's why I'm trying to do more audio. One because

(54:55):
I think it's better content. Two because it makes me
feel better about doing the content. And I'm not sure
exactly which one of those is more important than the other,
but I think they definitely work in tandem with each other.
It's going to be I'm excited to have someone to
bounce off of again, someone to you know, someone to

(55:15):
banter with and see where it goes. You know, start
a point and then have somebody say something and you
end up in a destination you never expected to be.
But it's good content and I'm excited to share that
with you'all. It should be up and running here in
the next couple of weeks, So as we get closer,
as it starts to get more put together, I'll drop

(55:38):
some more cookie crumbs of where you can find it
and what exactly it is. Because it has been you know,
it's been a process to get back under the iHeart umbrella,
and now you know, have the opportunity to to get
back working with a mean a radio legend, quite frankly,

(56:01):
and someone that I think is going to be a
fun broadcast partner. It should lead to some pretty entertaining
bits as well. So appreciate y'all's patience. As the great
John Wooden would say, pressure is a privilege, and I
have been feeling that pressure and am learning to view

(56:21):
it more as a privilege instead of the anxiety inducing
pressure that it can be at.

Speaker 3 (56:26):
Times, But enough of that.

Speaker 4 (56:29):
That'll do it for another episode of The Sports Cave.
Till tomorrow. You'll be good, you'll be safe. We'll talk then, kid.

Speaker 2 (56:36):
What do we say about drugs?

Speaker 6 (56:39):
You Yeah,
