From the theme park Capital of theWorld, Orlando, Florida. This is
the Theme Park Podcast. Wait podcast? Is this all radio? Why does
everything gotta be so messy on thisstation? Anyway? Here's your hosts,
Dickerman, Jimmy d and Scott Harris, And welcome to the Theme Park Podcast.
(00:22):
Dickerman here, there is Jimmy D. What's going on? Phyllas and
Scott Harris promo code me beautiful nighthere the what are we in the March?
Yes, yes, we're in March. This is this is probably like
the dying days of the beautiful Days. Soon it's gonna be three thousand degrees
when you go to the theme parkit's still light out at night, and
(00:43):
it freaks me out. Yeah, that is that is true. What's probably
freaking people out too, is ifthey're trying to go to the theme parks
this week. This is we're intospring break. Oh yes, it is
full on Orange County. Spring breakbegins Monday right as of recording tomorrow.
Oh oh, they got Friday off. Okay, nice, good for them.
I know Lake County was already in. They were in this week and
(01:06):
then it's just it's spread out likeso much, just in the state of
Florida. Then across the country, spring break seems to last for like it's
the next two months. Two months. Yeah, and it's horrible at the
theme parks. And then after thatit's summer. Summer, it's hot,
and it's horrible at the theme parks. Yeah, we're into an interesting stretch
(01:26):
of time at the parks. Youjust need all the parks to be open
past seven o'clock, that is forsure. If you're a theme park and
you're operating in Florida, you shouldone hundred percent be open till eleven pm
every night, ten o'clock at least. Okay, ten, I mean I
for eleven profits. Be damned.I want to be there when it's not
a million degrees in the sun isbeating down on me giving me heat stroke.
(01:48):
Yeah, then you're on the shoe. You should consider doing like a
siesta like they do in Spain.Just take the hottest part of the day.
Just close the park up. Yeah, close it up, hottest part
of the day, turn off therides. What everyone at water parks,
I mean you can. I meanwe've got enough water parks now. There
are a lot of water parks. Two Disney's, the Universal and the Sea
(02:09):
World, right, yeah, yeah. And the crazy thing is when you
think about the water parks, theworst ones of the Disney parks, I
mean that's a relative term. Technologicallythey're the oldest, you know, they
are the oldest. But I stillthink Typhoon and Goon's got something that no
other water park. God, whatdo they have? I haven't been there
in forever. The tsunami wavepool.Oh is it just an extra big wave?
(02:32):
Yeah? Okay, Like if yougo to the wavepool at most of
the other parks, it's just likelike the ocean, like bobbing you up
and down. I think they're concernedabout lawsuits probably. I've seen people barely
make it in the regular wavepool thatI almost did not make it. If
you're not in the rhythm of thewaves, it can go bad. Yeah.
(02:53):
I'll have to go check that oneout at Typhoon the god As Aquatica
just opened a new slide this week. The Sea World business is just to
keep opening new stuff constantly because they'vegot the new roller coaster coming, the
new slide. They were doing likepassolder previews this week. Yeah. My
objection to Aquatica is the fact thatthey had all their slides are enclosed.
(03:15):
There's not a single one that youcan see why you're going on it.
Okay, okay, and I'm notlike ever since did you ever go in
the black Hole? And oh yeah, I love that one? That was
one of my favorites until they stoppedusing the LEDs that were like in the
pipings. That was pitch black. So it was pitch black and I whacked
my head in that so bad thatI saw stars like and that that was
(03:37):
the first hole exactly. That wasthe first time in my life that I
understood why they did that Looney Tunescomer in cartoons. That's like that actually
happens. Yeah, if you don'tget injured at a water park, you're
not doing the water park, right. If you don't nearly drown or get
injured or lose your sunglasses or bathingsuit, you're not doing the water park.
Right. My eyes are mostly closedlike half the time when I do
(03:58):
these rides. Anyways, Yeah, they're the one I don't like is that
toilet bowl one where it like goesup on the big wall and then you
know, swings back down. Yeah, I've never been on that one.
That one is that the one thatlike, Volcano Bay has one of those,
and it's right next to if.Yeah, and that one is terrifying
because sometimes you get up there andit goes and like the person that's on
the top is like falling forward nearly. Yeah, those your legs cross won't
(04:18):
be a problem. Those seem dangerous. They do seem dangerous. But yeah,
new ride at Aquatica. If you'reinto theme park water water, did
you go? Did you ride it? I have not ridden it yet.
No, I think you tell yourmanity friend about it. Today was the
day. Today was the day forpass holders and I had to work today,
so I didn't work from work fromthe park. Did you not listen
to me on the show last week? I was in the I think it
(04:41):
to work at a water park wouldbe very difficult. Why you gotta bring
your laptop? Yes? No,I'm not saying work from a lazy river.
They got tons of sand in thatAquatica. It's sand everywhere. I
know for a fact you have workedon a laptop at places full of sand
before. Yeah, dirt, notsand, is dirt, that's true,
filthy dirt. Yeah, dirty feet. Listen to Anakin Skywalker over here.
(05:03):
I hate seeing yet he loves Dune. Dune was fantastic. If you haven't
seen Dune in the theater, thisis not theme park related, go see
it in the theater. See itand do'ble if again you have to see
it fourteen more times to catch upwith that guy. Just finally saw it
this week, so I'm extra excitedabout it. You guys are like that
was two weeks It was two weeksago. We're not excited about it anymore.
Oh No, I have since watchedpart one again and I've been itching
(05:24):
to go to part two, andI was gonna go when you were there
because I wanted to sit directly behindyou and kick your seat, but that
seat was not available. So yeah, I would still not mind a double
feature. Like if they decided todo like they're getting towards the end of
the run, let's do a doublefeature. They should have done that,
like nine hours nothing. Well theykind of, well, they did it
a few They did it like twoweeks before Part two came out, and
(05:46):
then in the in between they rereleased Tenant in theaters because that never got
a proper theatrical release for the mostpart, because it came out during COVID
so that got a Dolby Imax release. Okay, yeah, Dune was great
in the Doubey Theater. I meanthe thing is, like, I know
we're theme park podcast, but withthe strike last year, there's a lot
of studios re releasing movies. Atwenty four is releasing three movies over the
(06:11):
next six weeks in Imax, SoHereditary, X, Machin Nain, and
Uncut Gems are all getting Imax releases. Ex Machina was theirs. Yeah,
that's a long time ago, right, Yeah, Wow, I didn't know
they were on that long interesting.Okay, they've been around since like twenty
fourteen. Did they do Thanksgiving? No? Oh, I like that would
have been something they did. No, No, No, that's no.
(06:34):
You know this A twenty four isa very nuanced Yeah, movies waiting for
Civil War, that's all. Ohyeah, all right. Should we get
into some theme park news since weare a theme park podcast? Yes,
because I have very specific news foryou me, okay, you in particular.
Sometimes it's me ninety five percent ofthe time it's Jimmy related news.
(06:56):
Yeah, that's true. He's notwrong. Beginning March fifteenth through April thirtieth,
March fifteenth through April. So yeah, it's like now Universal Lando Resort
and Universal Students Hollywood are celebrating butterbeer season. What does that mean featuring
limited time treats? Okay, let'sI'm I'm intrigued. Uh huh. So
(07:20):
we've got cold Frozen. That's mythat's my go to. Frozen is a
good too. I have a hardtime going with anything else hot. Never
had it. Hot's the best, and you know me, I always contend
this hot and dangerous non dairy forpeople that don't have that. Don't have
dairy. Oh, yep, yep, yep. Fudge, Oh, that's
(07:41):
interesting. Potted cream. I don'tknow what that is. Ice cream.
I've had the ice cream, sothose are all the ones you're familiar with.
I've never had fudge or potted cream. What's potted cream? Does anybody
know it? All I can sayis I think it comes like in one
of those like miniature like Mason Jars, okay, with like the little pop
top and okay, I'd try it. The fudge is kind of like it's
(08:03):
kind of like a custard. Okay, I would like to try that.
I just have a hard time goingaway from the frozen because I know it's
just the best and you can't matchit throughout butter beer season. There will
also be some new treats. Okay, an iced lolly version, which is
a butter beer popsicle. Okay, all right, it would probably be Good's
(08:24):
that's good. That's not just afrozen butter beer. It's completely frozen.
See what I need in a situationlike this, I need universal to have
me out and then let me justhave everything to try. This is why
we were talking. I brought upa winch if I do it on my
own, kind of lure him awayfrom the butter beer. Yes, oh,
I thought you meant just get himlike back into the car. Also
(08:45):
that you've already lost a foot, you gotta go. And then there's also
butter beer caramels, you know,oh little like Yep, if you can
lose both feet, it would beso much easier to roll you back to
the car. M It's true.So yeah, those are a bunch of
new butter beer options, and sothat's live now you can go get it.
(09:05):
I still recommend frozen butter beer, even though I haven't had like thirty
percent of those. Yeah, I'vehad ice cream you should have one of
each. I've had the cold, and I've had the ice cream, and
I don't feel like they even comeclose to the frozen. I have not
had the hot Scotch. Hot.It's good. Hot is amazing. But
the problem is is it's not coldenough. It's it's when it's like freezing,
it's perfect. Okay, all right, yeah, well you'll have to
(09:26):
wait till next next winter for orI'll still get it. Now that's another
option. Yeah, yeah, Solet's look at the forecast butter beer season.
Butter beer season at Universal Studios Orlandoand Hollywood, if you happen to
make your way over there. Whatabout Japan? They do butter beer in
Japan. It is not listed. It's not listed in the press release.
I don't think they have I don'tthink they have Harry Potter. Oh okay,
(09:50):
and they probably they probably care toomuch about their health to beating and
drinking stuff like that. All right, you're healthy, they're healthy people.
Next Tuesday, No, there's athere's a Florida, Japan, Hollywood,
and Beijing. Oh okay. Butdo they have the Wizarding World? Yeah,
that's what I mean. Yeah, the Wizarding World is at all of
those parks. Oh wow, okay, I didn't know that was Dickerman Tuesday,
(10:13):
March nineteenth, High As sixty nine, lower forty nine. All right,
perfect, So that's a hot butterbeer season right there. All right,
let's get our our our person overat Universal, our person that personally
you know, brings us in,gives us a VIP tickets, gives us
the whole the whole shebang. Willhave them bring us out. Then I'll
use my I'll use my pasta, the warm butter beer. I thought we
(10:33):
had like a personal envoy there.Uh huh, that was the thing.
Uh huh, have one for allthe parks. We are the leading theme
park podcast in Orlando. Yeah, where's Derek? He said he was going
to be here. Yep. Sothat's that's going on. So that's that's
very much your centric news. Yeah. I do like that news. I
do like And I have the newHarry Potter video games, so I'm gonna
(10:54):
be back into the Potter world againreal soon. When you're playing Hot Words
Legacy, I'm going to as soonas I stopped playing resid Egle five,
I will I will go there.I've played it nine times we're getting a
TV show in a few years too, So that's Jimmy. That's when you
jump in when the Harry Potter TVshow comes out. Jump in. Each
season is acid. Each season isgoing to be a book. I feel
(11:18):
like you and laurencampbellreels her dot comwould really enjoy it. It's only eleven
movies. I think you guys wouldlike it. I know she's not super
into sci fi, but I feellike that she would like. It's a
whimsical word of Harry Poyer. It'sbasically, do you guys watch Game of
Thrones? It's basically Game of Thrones. She will not watch Thrones with me
if you didn't watch Thrones either.Wow, it's basically it's basically it's basically
(11:41):
Star Trek. That's a great wayto get her to not watch it.
Basically how I met your mother withone's yes, exactly, it is exactly
how I met your mother and uhyeah, and she said no the second
you went why didn't even get tod how? She's like, it's basically,
uh, left the chat. It'sbasically the Marvel Cinematic universe. She
(12:03):
thinks we're such ners, doesn't she? Oh yeah, yeah, Hey,
Harry Potter, not Harry Potter,Hally and Hornit's is coming up, you
know, I heard that they're alreadythey're already becoming speculation about this this particular
event, the biggest Halloween event inthe literal world. And two houses are
(12:28):
very much in play. Okay, three houses are very much in play.
All right, Stranger things, Nope, really no that. According to Millie
Bobby Brown, they have nine moremonths of filming to do on the final
season, and b B and BBwould know. Yeah, the strike,
the strike really affected that. She'slike twenty two now, right, all
of them are. She was likea baby, Like how long has that
(12:50):
show been on? That show cameout I think in like twenty fifteen.
I have a hard time understanding thatthose kids are all adults now, well
they are, I know. Thatmeans I'm very old. Season one came
out in twenty sixteen. Wow,and we're probably looking at twenty twenty,
maybe twenty twenty four if they theend of If they split the season like
they did season four, nobody likesit when they do that either. Nobody
(13:13):
likes it when you split a season. Well, let me ask you,
would you rather get half a season? Sooner or have to wait like an
extra year to get the full season. It just don't take so long.
Hey, how about this. Theseguys, these guys are so these guys
are so soft. Like Network TVwould do twenty four episodes a season,
they would do twenty four hour longshows or thirty minute shows every single two
(13:37):
minutes. Yeah, these guys arelike, I can't make eight episodes.
It's too odd. Yeah, that'sthat's I am right there with you.
Like I I recently a sitcom thathas a static set that never changes twenty
four Jack Bauer. It's not wrong. There one of the greatest shows ever.
I mean, here's the thing. In season one. I recently watched
The Bear, the FX show ofThe Bear, and it was like,
(14:00):
oh my god, the new season'sgonna come out this year. It's like,
well, when did season When didseason two come out last year?
When did season one come out twoyears ago? Wait, you're releasing a
show every year? What a concept? Yea, you know, so you're
you're being so generous. No,here's the thing. You want to know
what I want Stranger Things to do? How about this? And I know
this goes against everything Netflix believes in, but if you want to drive up
(14:22):
subscriber numbers, one episode of aweek, yes, yeah, control the
dialogue. Disney Plus does it exactly. I mean, I know some some
streamers like to do like three episodesat once and then they do weekly after
that. But like the show Invincibleon Amazon based on the comic book,
the animated show they're doing such likeseason two has been five episodes and then
(14:43):
a few weeks off and then oneepisode and then a few No, just
like give me one a week, just wait till it's finished, please please.
So not Stranger Things, Nope, one of them we've already kind of
speculated on because the movie he madea bunch of money Five Nights of Freddy's
Five Nights at Freddy's was like thissurprise runaway hit that like nobody expected because
(15:07):
it came out on streaming on Peacock, which is a day and date.
Same thing, like the movies can'tmake money because they're on streaming the same
day. Well, that proved allthat wrong. I mean, some it
has worked sometimes, like Dune oneworked when when Max did that. Yeah,
it didn't make as much money, but it did make money. Yeah.
Yeah. But so there's that oneand then there's two others. Uh,
(15:28):
we've got uh. I think FiveNights of Freddy will be a good
house too. This year we've gota new Ghostbusters movie which should be titled
Ghostbusters Ecto Cooler, but instead ofit's ghost Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. Yes,
so you could do another Ghostbuster's houseand then get yelled at when Jimmy tells
you to touch something, take upthe phone. God, what she got
(15:48):
mask? She was very mad atme, but I had done it like
the time before we were there andthere's no problem. Yeah, nobody said
anything, but we had a differentperson or a different actress. He was
inambulous. And then an interesting housethat I think will be a hit,
but it's very divisive on the internets. A quiet place that would be a
very interesting house, right, Likeit's gonna be dependent on who you go
(16:14):
through with, can you Because likeif you go through with people that will
play along and be silent the wholetime, it'll be cool. But you
know you're gonna have rowdy groups thatgo through there, then then go after
them. That that's the thing,Like you have to play into it.
Like if they're gonna be rowdy, then the scar acters have to go after
them. You need like a dozenextras from their rowdy, so they're just
everywhere. I mean. The realthing about a house like that, it's
(16:36):
a high concept house, but it'sreally you have to stagger groups really well.
It's so hard there because I knowthe crowds are just so massive.
That's the problem. So I don'tknow if you make that the biggest house
that you have to where you canyou can get away with doing eight ten
people at a time. I don'tknow what if he did a dual entrance
(16:59):
house, so people come in fromthe right side, people come in from
the left side, and at somepoint they will cross each other as they
go through the house, not inthe same lane. They'd have separate lanes.
But so basically you just want tomake two houses but be for one
theme. Yeah, I mean,I guess, yeah, yeah, like
your travelers passing. You know.I'm trying to remember if they ever use
(17:22):
the doing dragons que for a house, because that could have worked, because
that did kind of split off andI don't remember that being it. I
don't know, Yeah, I don'tknow, but we do know that,
uh, the Fast and Furious Housewill be used to Aeque Again, there's
rumors, there's rumors that might begoing away. It might be going away.
I mean it's the most I guarantethey know. They obviously know that.
(17:45):
Nobody I've told you this though. You have to go into that house
now being in on the joke,Yeah the ride, yes, yeah,
like just go into it knowing that. Yeah, that's I mean I talked
about this on the on the podcasta few weeks ago that franchise should have
taken over for T two three DBattle Across Time. Yeah. Yeah,
(18:06):
but it lends a little bit betterto that kind of an environment. Now,
what do you think if they doreplace that ride? What do we
replace it with? I don't know, maybe something that deals with the natural
disaster, Okay, on like anearthquake, but yeah, maybe like an
earthquake. I'm just kind of spitballinghere in San Francisco, Okay, maybe,
(18:26):
like you know, there's been alot of earthquakes on the West Coast.
Maybe like it be themed after likeThe Big One. Okay, yeah,
I'm thinking maybe title it like Earthquakecolon The Big One. Like you're
maybe you're in a subway car.So maybe I'm just speaking off the high
that I'm on right now. Butyou know universal is into IPSM. What
(18:48):
if we did a dune ride likeriding a sand worm. Okay, I'm
just just hear me out, andthen you rethme it at Halloween time and
be sandworms from Beetle Juice. Uhsure, Kevin Bacon movie. I don't
remember that one. Tremors, Yeah, you can do tremors and the actual
time. A Beetlejuice attraction would becool show. Oh maybe a Beetle Juice
(19:11):
like a rock show and you canhave view maybe a review that's got yees,
so it's got maybe again just spitcalling Dracula Frankenstein's monster the Wolfman.
Yes, you guys, he's aJewish. You guys are getting crazy,
(19:33):
Like, I mean, what areyou gonna suggest next? Bill and Ted
do a show at a Halloween event? That doesn't make any sense. I
was saying, more like the Deet'sHouse. Mm hmm. Well here's the
thing that you could like go through. Well, they're making a new Beatles.
It would not surprise me if there'sa if there's a Beatle Juice house,
Beetlejuice, Beatle Juice comes out.I want to say in August.
Oh, that's perfect timing. Yeah, And Michael Keaton says that he's already
(19:55):
seen a cut of the film andhe says it's amazing. Well, he
says, it's it's practical effects. It's not like most of the recent Burton
movies that are heavily cgi'ed. Septembersixth is when that comes out. The
problem is is that it's March fourteenthwhen recording this Hallween Horror Nights begins in
September March first, So I don'tknow how they're going to pull that off.
(20:18):
Yeah, it's already started, butguy, what he knows. This
is my next news story. Mickey'snot So Very Scary. It's sold out
right now. It just started lastmonth. We started Mickey's Halloween in February
of twenty twenty four. Yes,it's not they start like in they don't
(20:41):
even wait till the end of August, do they? Horror Nights begins.
I think the last weekend of August. I think Mickey starts the beginning of
it. Yes, it's like thenext thing, you know, it's gonna
be July. We are a monthaway. We are a month away from
Not So Scary tickets going on sale. Yeah, I would not be.
And then we are two months awayfor the Christmas party tickets going on sale.
(21:03):
There you go, the actually Christmascarriag. They're just going to do
not so scary Christmas that which iswhat I accident around. Yeah, which
means we are three months away fromJimmy having two books. Candlelight Professional Performance
Candilight Professional used to come out inJuly. But since we've come back from
COVID, they don't do the samething that they used to do. It's
all wonky now. I don't likethe changes since COVID, Like they haven't
(21:26):
gone back to like normal things fora lot of these parks, and I
want them back. Well, maybeone of the people that is rumored to
be taking over for Bob Iger Nois he out again? Well, no,
he's He has said that when histhree years is up, like he's
done. Yeah, he has notright of the ship yet, he's working
(21:47):
on it. I thought he wascoming back to write this ship. He's
working on it. We're still takingon water. So there's four internal candidates,
Okay, Josh Tomorrow, who's incharge of Disney Experiences, so the
parks, Okay, Alan Bergman, who's the co chairman of Disney Entertainment,
so the movie studio, Dana Walden, who is the co chairman of Disney
Entertainment, and Jimmy Patara, who'sthe chairman of ESPN. That's a weird
(22:11):
choice. Like any executive they throwin there is gonna suck anyhow, because,
let's face it, executives all suck. Bob Iker was great at the
job the first time around. Hewas he bought he bought Marvel, he
bought Disney, or he bought StarWars like he knew he knew what he
was doing. I mean did heYes, he did, I mean he
did. He bought He bought Lucasfilmfor four million dollars. That's made twelve
(22:33):
billion. Look look, look, look are they better off now? Well
that's because Chafficks flew it into thesun. Well, Chaffick and Covid happened
that like that immediately. That wasa perfect storm. Yeah, So you're
saying the Star Wars trilogy was betterthan the last trilogy that they spent four
billion on the rights, it's madetwelve Yeah, and it worked out.
(22:53):
I'm not saying that it's not.They haven't worked out financially, I'm saying,
has it worked out for the fansof the genre. Why, because
Star Wars has now become Star Trek, where it's just a television franchise pretty
much. Well, speaking of which, and Or, Oh, did you
guys did we talk about this lasttime? And Or Ahsoka and uh yeah
you yes, you brought it upon the podcast last week. Yes,
(23:14):
but that is exciting. It's worthmentioning again that's gonna be in Star Toars.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that'sexciting. I'm excited about that.
But I look forward to stelling ScarsReguard yelling at me for twenty minutes on
Star Toars. Bring it. I'mfine with it. I am really curious
how they're gonna like take the seriousnature of and Or and plug that into
Star Toars. That's an interesting mixwe're gonna find out. Yeah, we're
(23:37):
going to see how that how thatall works out for us. Well,
we're almost out of time here onthe podcast for this week, So Scott.
