Speaker 1 (00:02):
From the theme park capital of the World, Orlando, Florida.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
This is the Theme Park Podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Wait podcast? Is this are?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Why does everything gotta be so messy on this station?

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Anyway?

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Here's your hosts Dickerman, Jimmy d and Scott Harris.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Hey there, and welcome to the Theme Park Podcast. Dickerman,
here there is Jimmy T. Hello fellas and Scott Harris.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Hi, Hello, what's going on?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
What's up? What's now? We don't say spooky season what
it actually is. I mean we are in the first
week of October. Now it is now oficially spooky season.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
You guys marked me every time I did it.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
You've been saying it since January because to me, it.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Never ends saying it. I mean, do I have to
like run through my letterbox of all the horror movies
I've watched in the last week.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
No, just true, that's all.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Brida Frankenstein, Crimson Peak, The Ugly Stepsister, Creature from the
Black Lagoon, The War of the Gargantua was Class of
nucom High swamp Thing, Deadly Friend, ghost Watch, The Return
of swamp Thing, Jigsaw Spiral from the Book of Saul,
Silver Bullet, The Return of the Vampire.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
We really into movie talk, you know Record Times podcast.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
He's dipping his toe back to the eighties too, I
mean Class of nucom High, swamp Thing and swamp Thing,
the Return of swamp Thing with a epic performance by
Heather Locklear, one of the greatest acting performances of all time.
Yeah got you got better?

Speaker 2 (01:38):
And you know what? You know what I discovered is
on shutter, Tromia and Juliet.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Oh. Yeah, you should definitely watch.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I might have to watch that. Yeah, watch, I'm watching.
I'm watching. I'm watching everything. I've got one Saw movie
left until I complete that series.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
What about Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I already watched the first one. I've found a streaming
serve that has a Return of the Killer Tomatoes starring
George Clooney.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
I had no idea that happened. Okay, all right, well,
this is not movie talk. It is theme park talk.
It is the best time of year to go to
theme parks in my personal opinion, because the weather's about
to dip. I swear it's gonna happen. Boys. I know
it still feels like it's a thousand degrees outside during
the day, but it's gonna come and be nice and

(02:27):
cool and pleasurable to not only go to theme parks
at night, but also during the day.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Well here's the thing. If it is still hot outside
and you want to go and cool off, you can
do so at Volcano Bay.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
But yes, there is a caveat. Because they're in the
news this week.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, so Tapoo Tapo, the wearable wristband that enabled guests
to reserve wait times, rent lockers, do interactive elements, and
pay for food and attaching a credit card to it,
has been retired.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
I'm surprised because this was like one of the revolutionary
parts of Volcano Bay when they launched it. You know,
this was like they come out, it's an all new
water park, and this was like one of their big
things was Tapoo. Tapoo was this thing. Now. I do
recall early on that everybody would lose their taboo tapoo
and the lifeguards would have a stick with like hundreds
of tapoo taboos on it because they fell off while

(03:27):
riding that insane lazy river crazy river, which.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
I don't understand how that happened, Like, are you just
not securing it on you? Like it's it's kind of
got like a double lock on it.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
It might. I don't know if the early version had
the double long. I don't really recall. I just remember
seeing all those Tapoo tapoos lost and I made sure
I didn't lose mine, although I did lose my sunglasses.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
No, that happened to you when you wanted Tom Sawyer's Island.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
I scratched my sunglasses on Tom Sawyers Island and it's
fitting between the caves. Did they say why Tapoo Tapoo
is I read?

Speaker 3 (04:01):
I read something that one of the creators I wrote,
and he mentioned that the the fact that you know,
cell phones are becoming more and more waterproof and it
wearable watches pretty much will do everything you needed to
do and then you know, just have people wait and
stand by lines.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
But which can work.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Phones are like the worst thing at a water park. Horrible
to have a cell phone at a water park.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Totally like I did, Like I don't. And here's like,
if I'm at a waterwork, I don't want my cell
phone with me, even if it like I'm not gonna
wear like one of those like Landyard ziploc pouch things,
put it.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Away, put it away for a couple of hours exactly.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, like it kind of beats purpose and you know
the this has been going on for like two days now.
The weights haven't been that bad, but it's gonna be
bad for for Krakatoa the Aqua Coaster.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Oh yeah, and that's the best ride in the place.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
I mean, it's an amazing ride. But it's just like
that can back up. I have all I have heard
that Tapoo Tapu was done by a third party. Oh
and it hasn't really been able to be updated since
the park opened.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
This is like when you get solar panels and then
the company goes out of business, so you're stuck with
like dead panels and there's nothing you can do.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Well, I'm just so I have I have a power
up band for U Super Mario World. Yes, at Epic Universe,
I believe that is all handled like in house. And
starting next year they will be having a lengthy refurbishment
process for Volcano Bay. The park will be closed for

(05:43):
I believe like four months. Okay, so maybe they in
that interim period will update to a like their own system.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
That would make sense. Bring it in house, you control it,
You're able to update, You've got a team that can
do it. That makes sense for a company the size
of Universal like Disney. You know, they did magic bands themselves.
I still see rumors like magic bands are going away,
but they keep coming out with new ones. And didn't
California just get magic bands.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
I don't think they have them. That project also cost
them like a billion dollars.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yeah, like we were really excited to get them when
they came out.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
But here's the thing they have, like, yes, you can
use your watch now to like, like, I don't use
a magic band. I just have it on my watch
on my Apple Watch. I ironically enough, I do use
it when I pull up to parking because I have
it like right in my door, so I'm just like, hey,
scan this. But they also come up with like new
and different ways that you can utilize the Magic Band,

(06:49):
Like there's you know, you can use it for pictures.
You can use it for scavenger hunts through galaxies edge
like with magic Band. Plus there's a whole bunch of
stuff that you can do with them. So they're fit
figuring out ways to get a return on their big investment.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
I still like them. I still think they're a fun addition.
Of course, you can get the custom ones and the
various characters I did have one. You keep ears in
your car, Scott, I had one in my car for years.
It finally just disintegrated. Yeah, it just fell apart.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Four Key Forky fell apart.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
Disneyland has had magic bands for at least two years.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Oh okay, there we go, but they didn't have but
they didn't have it right away. It took them seven
years to get that.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
The first time I went to Disneyland, I wore my
magic band and I was like trying to pretending to
scan in at the at the turnstile, and that joke
landed is about as well as you think it would.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Yeah. Yeah, your forky disintegrated. You lost out, you lost four.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Ky No, no, no, I have him, it's just he
he is retired now from being a wearable.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
I had to retire the Thanos that Jimmy got for
me because I loved that one so much and it
was starting to starting to come apart. So I just
put it back in it's special case and it stays
are on display.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
I could I could do that. I still actually have
the box for for four Key.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
The Thanos one so great though, because when you scan
it you get the rainbow thing that goes around for
the Infinity Gauntlet. Yeah, that's so unfortunate. Yeah, And I'll
still break it out on a special occasion, especially if
I ever go to Disney.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
It's gonna say what you gonna You're just gonna wear
it to a formal occasion.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Eh. You know, maybe I hear later in the show
you're gonna tell me about some Disney things that will
be affordable, and maybe I'll take part in them.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
You want me. That's a good segue. Do you want
me to segue into that? Right now?

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Let's go into our next This is the most interested
thing I want to hear about on the show this week.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
So a thing that you have harped on in the
history of the show, besides Sea World getting hollow scream?

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Yes, is what parks staying openly? Yes?

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Exactly, Well your favorite thing. Next year, there will be
Epcot after hours, Magic Kingdom after hours in Hollywood studios
after hours.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Are these separate ticketed events.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
These are separate ticketed events.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Got a part stings? You gotta know that part stings.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
You don't have a pass, So what does it matter?

Speaker 1 (09:20):
What if I gotta pass? Well, I gotta pass this year.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Well, this is uh from let's see nine thirty to
twelve thirty at Epcot. Okay, so that is that's later
if you can, if you if if you can stay
up later, right, but you can get into the park,
you know, at seven o'clock.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Okay, all right, it's not bad.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Yeah, exactly. Uh these are all like nine to midnights,
nine to twelve thirties.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Um, here's my fear. I'm tell you what my fear
is with this, with this being a separate ticketed event. Yes,
and they just say, you know what, We'll just close
all the parts of seven eight o'clock from now on,
and if you want to come late, we'll have those
separate ticketed events a whole new revenue stream.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Okay, well, how about this. We want to talk about pricing. Yes,
let me get this ad out of the way. That
took up the entire screen. I hate when that happens.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
NICs are terrible nowadays. Websites are just awful.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Okay, here we go. You want to go to Epcot, right,
you love Apcot. You want to go do that Guardian's thing.
You want to do Guardians of the Galaxy. Okay, per
ticket or per night, it depends on, It depends on
and on. When you want to go.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
What's the range of dates we're looking at here?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Do we know we've got two weekends in January? A
weekend or a day or two nights inbry in January,
couple in April May. It's it's literally selected nights.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Okay, I'm just I'm trepidacious because you know, I fear
this might set a precedent that will never have Magic
Kingdom open until midnight. Again, well that's my concern.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
But here's the thing. Experience popular tractions with lower weight times.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
I know this gimmick. I know the gimmick. It's it's
it's it's Mickey's not so scary and the Christmas gimmick
and the whole shebang.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Okay, okay, okay, you want to go to Magic Kingdom,
then instead I.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Do, But I want to, Yeah, I don't want to
pass to get.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Me one seventy five to two hundred dollars. God, but
ten am to one pm.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Scott, how much did you say these were?

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Uh when the Magic Kingdom was one seventy five to
two hundred dollars?

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Yeah, but a regular Florida resident tickets one hundred and
nineteen dollars.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Yes, But this is a limited ticket event.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
I thought you said it was like a budget thing.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Did you did you?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Did you not see when I?

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Oh, it was the god a quote. I did the quote.
It wasn't a good deal.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
I mean, here's the here's the if you can afford it,
it is a good deal. Because no, it is because
it just like going to any of the parties, it
is a different kind of experience. They do different kinds
of things at these events that they don't do during
regular park hours.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Here's my suggestion is for everyone listening and everyone in
the world, do not support these type of events. Do
not encourage this type of behavior. Don't go, and they
won't build it.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
How about this? Okay, okay, okay, Hollywood Studios nine thirty
to twelve thirty one. Fine, but there's gonna be fun
things like this. DJ Rex spinning the hottest tunes this
side of Coruscant.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Really?

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Wow? Does he not do that inside the little little
bar there that's crowded always?

Speaker 2 (13:00):
But this is a different experience. Okayez, there's dance parties
going on.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
They are ringing, they are ringing people dry right now.
They they're ringing every drop out of this towel.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Does it have the all you can eat ice cream
like the Villains thing?

Speaker 1 (13:16):
No?

Speaker 2 (13:19):
And I think that was only because you guys were there.
I don't think that's a regular occurrence.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
No, that was a whenever you do they had the villains,
I included all you could eat ice cream.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Oh wait, so sorry, you you are correct. Select snacks
are included in your tickets, such as ice cream, popcorn,
and bottle beverages.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
They will give you whatever you asked for, too, because
Jimmy tested that they were just gonna give them everything.
He's like, oh no, no, no, I I was just kidding.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
All right, So do you take back what you said?

Speaker 1 (13:45):
No? I don't. I still suggest do not support this
type of behavior, because when we do things like this,
we lose things.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
No, I'm in, Yeah, I'm in.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
I'm not helpful. Neither of you are helpful. I want
to see DJ Rex, Yeah, I wonder you. Yeah, I'm
in with ice cream.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, I'm mean.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
No, don't do this. Ye don't go when it's if
you want to stuff your face, go during the Halloween
or Christmas tickets.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Tickets for all of these go on sale on October ninth.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
All right, leave Dickerman in the car with the window correct.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Yeah, that's fine, that's fine. I'll go up with my
with my magic band and say I'm a pass holder
and I paid for my pass. You don't get to
exclude me in the evenings.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
And they'll say, uh, sir, you don't have a pass.
You haven't bought one yet. Please please leave the property.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
That is one issue. I don't really have a leg
to stand on there. I really don't have an argument
here and not I'm being a pass holder and giving
them money. This is true, So this is factual.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
But no, these are always fun. If you have the
opportunity to go to one of these, enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Mm hmm yeah, or if you have the opportunity not
to go. Let's not encourage this time and behavior from
the Walt Disney Corporation.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Okay, how about this. This is mainly for Jimmy. The
Reclaimed and Reforged storyline is returning to Savvy's Workshop later
this month.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
I know I saw that. Oh no, no, don't know.
Just send Lauren a text right now. Don't let Jimmy
in Savvy's Workshop. No, I've done it once.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
That's the only time I'm going to be able to
get that one by.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Is it true that if you go into Savvy's workshop
there is a picture of you on the WALLA says,
do not serve this man?

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Well no, well yes, but it's in Arabash, so you
have to know how to speak it.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
M It's gonna be a challenge. Remember you used to
be able to get a name tag in Arabash? Can
you still do that? They used to do it for
Star Wars weekends. Remember Jeff got one? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:50):
I believe they also did that at Launch Bay.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Oh did they do it at launch Bag Yeah?

Speaker 3 (15:54):
And they did it at Celebration when it was here
in Orlando too.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
You might do it at Star Toars okay, or maybe
have a machine where you could do it by Star
Toars like you know how they have like the machines
where you could get like a dog tag made like
it for a dog. I'm wondering if they, I mean,
if not, they should totally have one of.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Those, absolutely one hundred percent. If they don't, this is
a great idea. Look, if you guys want to make money,
quit doing these extra nights. Get one of them dog
tag machines, but an airbash.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Or if you want to make money.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Do both of these ideas, now, don't everyone, don't do
the second one. Don't do it.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Do do both of them.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
It's a terrible idea.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
Why because you will, You will manifest this into the
universe and not do anything about it.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Yeah, exactly, I think I just want it my way.
I'm just not going to take advance. I'd like to
go to the theme parks late at night. My favorite
part about Disney was being mobile to go, you know,
to eleven to twelve.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Wait, was the last time you went to a theme park?

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Okay, it's been a couple of years.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Guys.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
You know I've been to SeaWorld. I've been to SeaWorld.
Them into Disney. They priced me out. Okay, they priced
out the common man, the everyday American.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
I'd like to remind you that we bought you two
in credit passes years ago when UH annual passes went
back on sale and you have not used them.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
No, that didn't never happened.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
I mean it did my bank accounts, as it did.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Remember when they launched they relaunched annual passes like you
better get them because no, they're gonna be sell out out.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
That's when we bought them for you mm hmmmm.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Mine never lapsed. Keep it going, keep it going, keep
the dream alive, Jimmy, I still have.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
Mine, and I don't know what I'm gonna do.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
We went.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
I'm going on Monday to see uh newcount Glory.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Yeah, I gotta figure I gotta figure that out.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Are you gonna go see Newfound Glory? Uh?

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Yeah? I've just got a lot going on next week,
so I really have to like strategically plan out all
of my plans next week.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
That is part of the EPCOT. What is it? What
festival is this one? Food wine, arts, food and wine. No,
food and wine, No, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
It's eat to the Festival of the Arts, Flower and Garden,
Food and Wine, and then the Holiday Experience. I don't
remember what that one's actually.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Called, Holidays around the World exactly that.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Yeah, well, you know they figured out food and wine
was the original, right, Yes, they figured out with how
profitable that was, or like, let's just keep making these
guys and okay, they're making us a lot of money.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Correct me if I'm wrong, You guys are old.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Accurate.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Wasn't Food and Wine only like a like a month
when it started? Wasn't it like the wasn't it just
like a very like limited thing, and then it just
grew and grew and grew.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
I think it was like a weekend.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
That's what I mean.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Like, I guess some could say that about Star Wars, like, oh,
you guys just had weekends. Now now you got all
the time. You got it into the park.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
It's not the same though, and now it's a decade
in between movies.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Yeah, yeah, I want the Darth Maul back, and I
want all the weird characters out. Let's bring it back, guys,
like a extra money Star Wars weekends. Actually that wasn't
even a separate ticket. That was a regular ticket. It was. Yeah,
it was wonderful.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Let me guess you also want them to bring the
soaps weekend back.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Look, I had trouble with that. Did I tell you
the story with that? I had trouble with that.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
I don't know that. No, I don't know this.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
I had a secret service looking guy like a very
upset with me over the soaps weekend. See, for a
little while they had the radio studio, I'll make this quickly,
had the radio studio there at Hollywood Studios, right, Yeah,
So while they were refurbishing the five forty studios or
seven forty studios, whichever it was at the time. They
had to bring the Gardening show over to Disney, so

(20:00):
we produced it over there for a while. So we'd
get there super early in the morning. They had to
leave a key in like one of them realtor boxes outside, okay,
and so I'd get there, I'd open the realtor box,
open the door. When we got done with the show,
put the key back in the realtor box. Well, on
Soap's Weekend, I put the key back in the realtor
box and this guy's like, all right, what do you doing?
What you put in there? Like like I was planting
a bomb of some sort and he had a little

(20:20):
earpiece the whole secret service. Look, I'm like, bro, I
just it's the key man. But yeah, that was my
That was my experience on soap Sweekend.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Oh wow, if you're curious to where that that location was,
it's now the ole off the ingredients. Yeah, meet and
greet across from Star Tours. Yeah, the whole studio is gone,
right well yeah yeah, yeah, Radio Disney there is gone.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
I believe Radio Disney itself almost is like completely gone.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Yeah, that was like the headquarters of Radio Disney, like
where all the popular shows came from.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
I guess, mmmm, you want one last little bit of news.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Yes I do.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
They're making updates to Dinosaur.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
The ride that's closing soon.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
It's closing in early twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
That's pretty soon. What are they doing too? Why? Why bother?

Speaker 2 (21:10):
At this point they have updated the on ride photo frame.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Oh well, that's not a big update. It's like did
they ever have a photo? Yeah before?

Speaker 2 (21:20):
Yeah, they've always Yeah, it's always had a photo.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
