of good news, because it's a big world out there.
Firefighters in any community doing their job are heroes. But
here's the story out of Long Island in which a
firefighter is being called a hero, not for rescuing a
human being, but for saving something very special, a sacred
safer Torah from a Jabad, a Jewish community center that

was engulfed in flames. Michael Farka, fifty four years old,
being hailed as a hero in this holy rescue. He
brushes that off and says he was simply doing his job.
The seventy other first responders who were there alongside me
deserved just as much praise as I'm getting. Farker was
making sure no one was still left inside the burning
building and saw the holy ark where the scroll is stored. Ironically,

the rescue occurred the day after the Jewish holiday of Chevuote,
which celebrates the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai
some three thousand years ago. Farca says, humbly, my hope
is that I've inspired someone to get up and do
something for their community. He certainly did in this case,
