Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Upside with Jordan a dose of good news.
Because it's a big world out there and up there
are satellites, NASA satellites that do so much verse on
a daily basis. Some satellites can read the signals of trees,
trees that are warning us when volcanoes are ready to erupt.
Here's the story. Before volcanic eruptions, carbon dioxide gases are
(00:20):
released from the magma below the Earth. The trees absorbing
this become green and vibrant, and that's where the satellites
come in. The kind of equipment that could be used
to improve early warning and detection systems. Experts in volcanoes, botanists,
and other scientists point to a slew of Earth monitoring
satellites such as LANSAT eight and the Orbiting Carbon Observatory iiO.
One volcanologist said, there are plenty of satellites we can
(00:43):
use to do this kind of analysis based on the
greening and images of trees in the areas of volcanoes.
The NASA system did help to predict an eruption of
a volcano in the Philippines, so evacuations occurred before the blast.
