Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're waking up with the morning kiss let us one.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Sorry, I had a little bit of breaking news in here,
so we were delayed on getting back on the air.
My apologies. We're talking about scams in Cincinnati. Never in
my life have I heard of a scam, that scam.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
That that was this intense, And.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Never would I that I think that it's something like
this would happen in Cincinnati.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
And we've talked about scams a lot.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
It feels like every corner that we turn, we learn
about a new scam, But never did I think that
there would be one that involved our very own police department.
So a girlfriend of mine and I were out walking
was Wasson Way on Sunday, and she's breaking down this
scenario for me and my jaw is on the concrete essentially,

(00:44):
and she's really going through it right now. When it
comes to some scams, I kind of think they're all related.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
But imagine this.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
She's sitting at her fairly high profile job in the
afternoon when she gets this voicemail. She sent it to
me and she's like, go ahead, play it on the air.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
This is Charger And so I'm looking to get in
contact with.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
My contacting me refas just a point matters, so convenient.
I do you to give me a callback and top one? Right?
Hey about four again? This is a charger in contact again, man,
I'll do you think you made a callback a five
one three.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Thing?

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Thank you?

Speaker 2 (01:26):
All right? So obviously I noticed right away that there
was a five one three number in there, and this
was a sergeant, and so automatically my ears start perking them.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
So she gets the voicemail.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
She calls the number back and he says, is this
so and so And she says, yes, this is me,
and he said, this is sergeant blah blah blah. There
is a warrant out for your arrest right now from
failing to attend jury duty.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
And she's like, what are you talking about. He's like,
there is a grand jury.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
We have a piece of paper right here with your
name on it and your signature. This is so and
so right, this is your name first and last, and
he obviously had her phone number first and last name,
like kind of key indicators to get her to like
think this is real. And he says, there's a warren
out for your arrest at this time, and we are

(02:18):
gonna come to your office and arrest you. Now, I've
already laid the groundwork that this is a scam. But
imagine being in the moment at work and hearing this
and saying, first of all, I don't even know what
you're talking about. As far as jury duty. You have
my signature, I didn't sign anything, and.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
That is true. I believe.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
If you do fail to show up for jury duty,
usually they say there's a warrant out for your arrest.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
I don't know how seriously we take that. I mean,
there's a lot happening in Hamilton County. Why would you
come after me for missing a grand jury.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
So she's kind of caught up and he's like coaching
her through it, and he's like, ma'am, you know there's
a worn out for your rest.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
We are coming to your place of work.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Then then he goes into something along the lines of like, yes,
you know you can pay the fine or the fee
which is forty like it was some ridiculous number, forty
five hundred dollars, could have been like forty five thousand dollars.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
I don't quite remember the number on it, but enough to.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Be like whoa wait a minute, Like I can't even
go to an ATM and get that clear indicator right
in hindsight, but in the moment she's like, what are
you talking about. He's like, you can also go to
a bail bond and you can pay some of the
fine or a portion of the fine right now to
take the warrant for your rest off. But then you
will have to go to court to prove whether or
not this is your signature, and we'll have signature experts

(03:40):
that can look at your signature and decide whether or
not you really did sign this and you skipped out,
or if someone forged your signature. I mean, this is
all conversation, and she's of course now starting to question it.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
She says, well, like, can you explain it again, and
like is this real?

Speaker 2 (03:58):
And he's like absolutely, man, I can call you back
on a secure line if you would like, and she's
like yeah. Now, in the midst she's got a lawyer
friend that works in her office. She's running to the
lawyer friend at the same time as talking to this guy.
She busts into a meeting and the lawyer is like, Hi,
can you explain to me what's going on? And the
guy goes, who is this? And she goes I am
so and So's lawyer, and then he hangs up. She's like,

(04:23):
that was a scam. I mean this they had information
key name, key numbers, day like sounded legitimate.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Crazy to me. Good morning.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
You're waking up with Tiff in the morning on Kiss
one oh seven to one. I haven't gotten a talk
back yet on scams. So if your ears are perking
up and you want to contribute to the conversation, just
know that that is an alternative way to touch base
with me without actually having to call me. And the
microphone is in the top right hand corner of the
iHeartRadio app Hi, good morning, you're on the air.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Right, Yes, the exactly thing happened to me, Good morning?
What the heck like? Walked me through it? Were you
also blown away? In the moment? I was fortunately my
husband's police officer, so I called and told him, Okay,
so you had no it's a scam, but so can you?
Did I get the story right?

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Essentially, sergeant calls and says there's a worn out for
your rest for missing grand jury, and then what happened
from there?

Speaker 1 (05:20):
If you remember quick quick, oh, he.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Left me a voicemail left your voice immediately called my husband, okay,
and he knew it was a scam.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Okay, So you didn't get it. You didn't go as
far as my friend did. But wow, I mean that
in the moment, in the moment, you're like, how do
you have my name?

Speaker 1 (05:41):
How do you have my phone number? How do you
do a whole lot?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
So I'm like, what the heck did I do? Did I?

Speaker 1 (05:50):
What's your name? What neighborhood? You waking up with me?
And Mandy? Thank you so much for the call.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
If you're just walking into this conversation, I'll catch you
up to speed a real quick. A girlfriend of mine
and I were walking on Wasson Way Sunday. I love
walking Wasson If you haven't done, it's a great place.
And she's like, Dude, I got this voicemail from someone
in the police department saying that they were coming to
arrest me. Sounds ridiculous now, but right imagine being at

(06:17):
your job in the afternoon and getting that voicemail and
she's like, they wanted to arrest me because I didn't
show up for jury duty. And I know that usually
when someone starts to ask for money, that's how the
like the alarms start going off in your head, right,
that's when they should start going off.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
But the way in which she.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Did it was very sophisticated based on the way that
she was explaining it to me, so I understood why
she was super caught up about it.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Hi, good morning, you're on the air.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Hi, I was just.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Calling about your scam thing.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
I just want to let you know my husband just
did got a.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Paper about jury duty and went the judge said you
they don't ever arrest anybody if you don't show up.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Okay, well, this is good insight. This thank you, No,
thank you. You didn't tell me your name. Do you
want to do that, Tiffany? Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Okay, thanks for the call, tiff It's always bizarre when
to hear someone with my own name.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
But Tiffany is you know? We don't what we're doing?
All right? Coming up in? You know what? Do you
guys want to talk about the real ID? Real quick quick?

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Let's check in about the real ID because that's a
big topic of conversation.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Give me three minutes. We'll get to that next
