Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're waking up in the morning. Kiss, good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome back to Travel Tuesday with Tiff. We are specifically
talking about solo travel. If you missed the announcement a
couple of weeks ago, I am going to Europe on
my very first solo trip to Ireland here in just
a few weeks, and so I've brought on Michelle, who
you might be familiar with their voice by now. She's
our show's travel expert. Good morning, good morning. So what
(00:26):
happens when something goes wrong? Because it's not an if,
but it's a when. What are some of the things
that could go wrong? Some we could prepare for now.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Absolutely, I hate to say it, but the airline industry
is a hot mess right now. Probably the most common
thing yep, knock on wood. Now delayed or canceled flight.
If that happens to you, or when that happens to you,
take a breath, maybe take a walk, grab a cocktail.
Once you've gotten yourself a little bit collected, we're going
to get you on another flight, either via a gate
agent or the app. Some airlines will actually do that
(00:57):
for you, which is great, but make sure you've checked
and then if it's the last light of the day,
if you're struggling to get out, ask if they have
a partner airline and they can endorse your ticket over
there so that you don't have to do an overnight
at the airport or a nearby hotel.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Okay, I I'm sure we all have a friend that's
got a crazy travel story. A girlfriend of mine was
coming to mine right now where she was stranded in
Russia because she missed her gate as well. Oh my god,
so we all have when you're more than welcome to
call to with your stories at five pine three seven
four nine, one oh seven one. But what are some
other things that I need to prepare for or in
US Cincinnati, And that's considering you know, solo travel this year.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Yeah, I would also say las U luggage is probably
a big one. You a lot of airlines now their
apps are great about tracking it. I also see a
lot of folks putting air tags in their luggage to
track that as well.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
That's also a really.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Good idea if it does happen to you, by only
the essential savior receipts and then work with the customer
service agent or a travel agent to get your money
back and reimbursed while you work on tracking down your
your stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
We've all seen the girl lees in the Instagram that
are trying to wheel their suitcases through the streets of
Greece in Europe and there's just no elevator, there's no
air conditioners, so pack lights. Yeah, I think I'll be
bringing one of those travel backpacks rather than a rolling suitcase.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Absolutely, if you can only take a backpack or something
really small like that, I would absolutely do that.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Carry On only is the way to go.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Well, those are two at least two things that could
go wrong, or like, when they go wrong, it happens, right,
We've got to prepare. There's one more that you wanted
to mention though, that sticks out.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah. One thing that I'm serious seeing and hearing a
lot about is various illnesses, so like motion sickness or
GI upset from a new type of cuisine, to even
some folks serious infection or like broken bones. Double check
all of your luggage carry on or not for any meds.
You can't always buy that stuff once you get to
your location or the ones that work best for you
(02:52):
and get your travel insurance. You just never know when
something serious is going to happen to you, and the
peace of mind alone can go a long way. And
I've heard multiple horror stories from friends of mine about
things that have gone wrong, and they're like, the only
reason that we made it out of there and I
got the care that I needed without bankrupting me was
from the travel insurance.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
That I don't have travel, I don't have it booked. Okay,
we're going to talk about travel.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
She's the Jane of all travel by the ways or
Instagram handle.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
I don't like to end on a negative noe.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
What is one good thing that can come out of
someone that's considering solo travel to Europe for the first time.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
That sense of accomplishment, confidence, the independence of all of that.
You're gonna feel so like you can come back and
tackle the world.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
And it really makes your mind.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
I swear it rewires the mind to be more solution
orients it because you don't have time to sit there
and pout and cry and freak out because you got
to figure it out and you got to figure it
out quick. And the more you do that, the better
the more your mind is oriented to it.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I'm so excited and also like nervo.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
I'm feeling all the same things that you are listening
right now, because this will be my first time.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
She's the Jane of all travel on Instagram.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
If you're considering, you are more than welcome to hit
her up off. I've been leaving our travel Tuesdays with
an open phone line at five one three seven four
nine one oh seven one. If you've solo traveled before,
what's the one piece of advice you would offer to myself?
Or Cincinnati and listening right now, that's considering it. How
has it changed your life
