Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is TMI Talking Medical Information with Sally Health.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Hey Jen c Ashford here with iHeartRadio, our newest podcast
for Valley Health. And as a matter of fact, I
am hanging out with my Valley girls right now. Jet
Staples Hello, Hello, Hello, and Melanie Shaffer Adkins Hello, Hi everybody.
So we've got Jess who is the director of Marketing

(00:27):
and Events at Valley Health, and Melanie, who is the
public relations specialist. Just tell us a little bit about yourself,
my darling, Oh my goodness, where do we start? Where
do we start?

Speaker 3 (00:37):
I have been with Valley Health for fifteen years in
a number of different and fabulous roles, but most recently
director of Marketing and Events and just enjoying every day.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Awesome And what's your most fun thing to do at
Valley Health?

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Oh my goodess. Well, pitch all kinds of crazy new
ideas like this one to our executive leadership team, and
almost every single time they have been supportive, even on
the crazy air ones where we put the CEO and
president into some very interesting graphic designs.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Oh wonderful.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
It was for a company call, so it was definitely
family rate.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
There we go. Okay, but he's a good lot. He's
a good sport and that's what you need. I mean,
you've got to have a cool boss to let you
do things like this podcast. Yes, and he is.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
So Melanie, please tell us you are the public relations specialist.
Tell us what's going on with you Valley Health.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, I've been there two years, a little bit longer
than two years. Before that, I was with WSAZ, did
the morning news for a three million years, and I
decided that sleep was a really good thing I'd like
to try. So I landed with the most fabulous team
at Valley Health and help with anything and everything and
just having a great time.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Fantastic. And so the whole point of this podcast is
to just bring medical information to you, maybe even and
the weird, you know, questions, the situations maybe you might
be too embarrassed to ask your doctor about. And what
kind of sparked this idea was the fact that I'm
friends with these women, so it's kind of easy to

(02:13):
talk to you all about this, right. I mean, I've
known Melanie since I interned at WSAZ a million years ago,
and I've known just in a personal manner for a
couple of years now, So it's like, you know, we're
just talking together and learning about our bodies together.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, I mean lots of it.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yeah. I think it's cool because we all, you know,
walk into the doctor's office and all of a sudden,
you're nervous and you don't want to bring stuff up,
but you know there are.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Things you really want to ask.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Oh yeah, so you ask your friends and maybe they're
not it's their experience or what they've heard. But we're
going to get you the real skinny from the real
people that can answer those questions and take the pressure
off of you.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
About being embarrassed. Absolutely, and I mean even I don't
know if I'll embarrass you, Jess, But you know you
were talking about going to how a mammogram?

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yes, and that welcome, Welcome to the other, Welcome to it. Yeah,
welcome to squish town. You're okay, okay, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
I did have my first mammogram earlier today, and right
before that was texting my friends, is it okay to
where yodorant? Can I wear lotion and perfume? Because I
really didn't know and it's been years since I worked
at the health center where we told people absolutely no.
So right, Thankful to have good friends who helped me
along the way.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yes, and so many things change over the years. I mean,
you know, they call it practicing medicine because we're learning
things as we go. We're learning a lot more, especially
with new technology. So the questions that maybe your mom
had answered and she's like, oh, honey, yeah, this is
the thing may not be the thing anymore. So that's
what we want to dive into with this series. We're
going to interview tons of providers from Valley Health and

(03:49):
h And by the way, if you are looking for
a new provider, I actually just switched over my PCP
and am seeing someone from Valley Health because it was
so easy to get in. It's extremely easy to make
an appointment on my chart, by the way, and by
the way, the transparency, just just knowing that my blood
test results are going to go to both my doctor
and myself so we've both got them. So tell us

(04:11):
a little bit about why if somebody's looking for a
new doctor, why should they choose Valley Health.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
I would choose Valley Health, and do you choose Value
Health from my own family, just because again, like you said,
it's super easy to get in, it's super easy to
schedule those appointments and you get those results back fairly
quickly through my chart, which is awesome. And we are
literally everywhere. So if you look around, you probably see
a Value Health on your corner or coming soon to
a neighborhood near you. But the providers and the quality

(04:39):
care that our providers give to every single person that
comes in the door is top notch.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
It is the best of the best that.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
You're going to find, one hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Absolutely, and value is I mean it's for everybody. It's insured, uninsured, underinsured,
whatever you've got, we will make it work for you.
So we have all kinds of programs that make it affordable,
and affordability is huge these days. Everybody is trying to
save money where they can and spend it where they
need to. So we've got sliding fee discounts, amazing providers,

(05:06):
and like you said, we have more than sixty different
locations all throughout West Virginia. We're in Kentucky now with
louisa Iecare. We're in Ohio to so we are close
to you, right around the corner, with people who know
you and take great care of you.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Absolutely, and that's the thing. It's local. By the way,
anytime I've walked into a Valley office now. Granted I
know quite a few people now, but everybody's so nice.
Everybody is so friendly. They're very helpful, you know, registration.
As soon as you walk in the door, they're like, oh,
I can help you. Can you come over here? You know.
So it's nice to know that you all are going
to jump in immediately and take care. And by the way,

(05:43):
waiting for my appointment, I waited less than fifteen minutes.
I checked in online, which is an option too, which
is awesome. I filled out my paperwork online. That kind
of thing is really convenient for someone like me. But
if you don't fill it out online, you can go
into the registration and they'll totally help you fill that out.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Love to especially like my kids get sick a lot
and we our quick Care is open, but the doctor
prescribes the medicine, and the pharmacy a lot of our
locations is right there. So it's super easy and super
super convenient, and you can schedule optometry and dental and
every other thing that you forget about as a busy mom.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
I'll get that, yeah, exact along the way. So yes,
that's fantastic. So coming up on this Uh, I don't
know season if you will of this podcast. We are
going to be talking to several medical providers. Now tell
me just a few of the areas of health that
you know you have providers for at Valley Health.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Well a first step, we're going to have doctor Caleb
Huff with us, and he is an obstetrician guynecologist. So
we're gonna talk about all the stuff and things.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Oh, we're going to dig out.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Oh, we're yes, all the things you ladies out there
really want to know. We're going south of the border
and we are going to explore what your top concerns are.
You know, is this normal? Is this not normal? What
can I do about this? Why can't I jump on
the trampoline without running to the bathroom right after?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
If you've had children?

Speaker 1 (07:05):
I mean, we're going to take you through all that,
talk about different things that can happen to make your
life better, more convenience, whether surgery is an option for you,
whether medicine can help you. Doctor Huff is very well
versed and he wants to make women's lives just fantastic.
And you know, being a girl isn't always awesome. Sometimes
there are some hiccups along the way, and we can

(07:27):
address those and take away some of your anxiety or
some of the things that are just plain annoying and
maybe make.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Your quality of life better. That's the goal absolutely. You know.
My husband's actually told me several times when I tell
him he's my springboard. You know, I throw everything out
at him. So he knows what women go through on
a daily basis. He's like, my gosh, women have it
so rough. I'm like, we do today. You got it, honey,
You're right. We have a lot of complicated plumbing, if

(07:54):
you will. And I think talking to doctor Huff is
going to be a great thing. But we're also going
to talk to several other providers throughout the series. So
we're going to ask questions for specific women questions, but
specific men questions. Who else can we talk to.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
We've got a whole group of folks, so from pediatric questions,
things that you want to know about your kiddos and
what they're going through, mental health and how important that is.
We're going to bring some of our behavioral health providers
in and talk to them. Dental optometry. It's amazing all
the different questions that you may not think about until
you get home or again when you start Google searching,
because everybody's a doctor on Google, and so we are

(08:31):
going to bring in anybody and everybody, but we want
to know what everybody else wants to know.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
And listen, that's the fun thing about how we have
kind of a close relationship. We're not embarrassed to ask
the providers these very awkward questions. I don't get embarrassed easily.
I don't know if you all knew that.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
But I might have picked that up along the way.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
So yeah, so I'm so excited to talk to doctor
Huff and just throw him out all these questions. And
especially when I was pregnant with Leo, you know, I
didn't even know what lightning crotch was. And now thanks
to my doctor at Valley Health, at doctor Brumfield, he
was the one to explained that to me. And I
was like, well, this is okay.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Now you kind of dip into that because people are like,
excuse me, I know, and what is that some special
fancy underwear you picked up at the mall?

Speaker 2 (09:18):
What is happening? Listen, No, it was not a fun time. Literally,
it is a shooting pain in your female area and
it was when I was pregnant with my son Leo,
and I had no idea what it was, and every
step I took most of the time was like, oh my,
what was that, you know? And it was just a
breath of pain. But of course I was nervous to

(09:39):
talk to him about it because that is extremely personal,
even though he has been my doctor for several years
and he's hurt it all. I finally brought it up
to him and he immediately.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Oh, yeah, I know what that is. Yeah, yeah, see,
it's your body doing its thing, making its way for
your guy to go up here. Exactly.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Again, I know, I know, and not everybody experiences it,
that's the thing.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
So when I was asking my friends, they're like, girl,
I don't know what kind of pain you're having. Doesn't
sound normal. You might want to get checked and okay.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
So that's the thing.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
There are so many questions that I'm sure our listeners
have too, that they've never asked their doctor, just out
of sheer embarrassment, because it is a very personal thing
to say. So, I've been having this weird problem. But
you know what, doctors have heard it all. Y'all have
heard it all. I don't care to hear it all.
So we are going to ask anything and everything we

(10:32):
can come up with this season. So we want to
know from you what your questions are. If you have
some really interesting questions that you may never have asked
your doctor. We want to know what you want to
know from number one doctor Huff because he's going to
be on our next podcast. So if you have personal
female questions, gynecological questions, obstetrics questions, we can answer them

(10:58):
on the podcast. So please email all of your questions
to marketing at Valleyhealth dot org. That is Marketing at
Valleyhealth dot org. This is your questions and if you're
not too shy, don't worry about it. You don't have
to sign it. We will not reveal your name, obviously,
but we just want to answer these questions that I'm
sure several people have.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
This is your chance. Inquiring minds want to know, and
I think we all walk into our doctor's office and
sometimes you just lose your questions along the way, you know,
get you get involved in this topic and then you
forgot to ask about these other two things. So this
is your chance to catch up and share with all
your friends. We can all be on the same page,
or if you're like.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Me, I hold on all those questions, I'm like, Nope,
not today, maybe tomorrow, Maybe tomorrow, off that one.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Or if you're like me, half the time, I'll go
into a doctor and I'm like, well, I'm not experiencing
that today, so I guess I'm fine, and then next
week I'm like, oh gosh, I shot back them. So yes,
please send us all your questions to marketing at valleehealth
dot org and listen, this is your Vallee Health podcast.
We're going to come up with all of your information.
We're going to tell you everything you need to know,

(12:02):
all those personal questions and information that you want to hear.
It'll be right here, and I'm with Jess Staples, director
of Marketing and Events at Value Health, and Melanie Schaeffer,
who is the public relations specialist, and gen Z, your
host will be back next time. It is your Valley
Girls from Valley Health
