Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is a special edition of True Film Fan I'm
John Wesley Downey, and we're going to recognize one of
the icons of world entertainment. Actor James Earl Jones has
died at the age of ninety three. He is among
a group of select entertainers to win an Emmy, a Grammy,
an Oscar, and a Tony. Of course, mister Jones was
(00:20):
best known for being the voice of Star Wars villain
Darth Vader, but he also starred in over eighty films
such as Field of Dreams, The Sandlot, The Hunt for Red, October, Conan,
The Barbarian, and Coming to America. He passed away at
his home in the Hudson Valley of New York. Jones's
extraordinary sixty year career solidified him as one of the
(00:41):
greatest black actors of his generation. He debuted on Broadway
in a theater in nineteen fifty eight, which now bears
his name. He received an honorary Oscar from the Academy
of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in twenty eleven, and
he survived by his son. An interesting footnote. Several years ago,
(01:01):
Lucasfilm entered into an agreement with James Earl Jones and
his family that they could use his voice in perpetuity forever.
They have massive files audio files of James Earl Jones'
voice as Darth Vader, and through artificial intelligence, it can
be manipulated to do new scripts. The family was compensated
(01:21):
with almost a million dollars for those rights. I'm John
Wissey Downey. Thank you for listening to the special edition
