Speaker 1 (00:06):
New episode of Randy and Robin Unfiltered. We're back. It's
been a while since we've done a podcast. Has been
several weeks, but we have just had a lot going on.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yes, going on.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Been a little bit crazy. First of all, my job
has changed, my regular job at the radio station. I
have a new title there. I'm now the brand ambassador
of kJ ninety seven, and this is a new role
where I'm not on the air as much. I'm doing
a lot more things outside of the radio station. In fact,
(00:39):
a lot of the work that I do is from
the home studio now, so I'm at the house a lot,
which is I've got to say. It took a while
for me to adjust to that.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
A little worried about you. I was like, I don't
even know how you weren't the same.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah, well, I mean forty one years of getting up
and having to go to work every single day and
go and do a radio show every single forty one years.
That's a long time.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, and let's talk about the first knee jerk reaction
was just to move the studio into our bedroom.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Yeah, I did that. That didn't work out, No, because
if you wanted to sleep in and I wanted to
record something that just it was not good.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
I like to sleep sleepy person.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
So now all of our studios are upstairs in the
man cave where they should be.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Yes, And it's not really a man cave. It's a
rain I call it the Randy Carrol Room. It's this
huge part of our home that is just inundated with
all of the memorabilia that Randy has collected over the years.
And it's just I think it's absolutely wonderful. I love
to be in this room. So let me be kicked
(01:54):
out a technicality that it's.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Only for me. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I
don't know if people would think any of this stuff
is cool.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
It's not cool. Everybody would think this is cool.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
I mean I think that the things hanging on the
wall behind you there that is a Brooks and dun Uh.
You've probably seen, like remember how they used to give
out gold records. Yeah, you know, and everybody associated with
that gets a plaque. Well, when you were in radio
and like a program director of the radio station, they
(02:25):
would send you a big black and that one's for
like one like eleven million sales of Brooks and Dune.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
It's amazing. It's pretty bad ass. And I'm looking at
an Alan Jackson one right here. I mean, there's so many,
there's so many of them, and they're pretty awesome.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
And AJS is cool because he signed it. It's got
Alan Jackson and.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Who calls him aj like? Not me, We don't have
that kind of relationship. So yes, it's very cool and
very exciting to be in this area of the house and.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
The guitar collection. Yes, up here, I have my very
first guitar. I guess at nine years old. I have
my dad's nineteen sixty eight telecaster. I shouldn't tell people
that they might try.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
We won't talk about everything.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
My guitar's in this.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Room, but it's pretty awesome and it's really a memorabilia
for a lot of nineties country and early two thousands.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
So yeah, kind of what you would call the heyday
of my broadcast career. Maybe, yeah. But anyway back to
what I started with, you know, adjustment and my job.
I've also formed a new company in this past year,
kind of anticipating the change at Ork where I would
(03:52):
have more time to focus on things that I want
to do, and of course, one of my favorite things
about my job through the years is getting to know
other people's businesses and their passions and then being able
to speak and share that story with radio listeners or
(04:13):
TV viewers. In other words, tell their story in a
way that compels people to go and discover what I
discovered about the product or the service. And that's what
my new business is.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
And I love that and I love that about you.
I find that a passion as well. So I'm excited
for your new venture. And yeah, what's to come.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
It's called him Honor and Integrity Marketing. A friend of mine,
Richard Donoff, and I have teamed up to do this,
something that we've been talking about for years and we
finally decided, Hey, we're going to do it. And it's
it's been really cool. It's starting to take off, and
so we're having a great time with that. But I
still get to do my passion. I still get to
(04:57):
be on the radio. I'm doing some shows on the weekend.
Of course, you and I doing the podcast, and we're
still you know, being a part of all the things
that the radio station does. We're going to be all
over the Rodeo San Antonio stock showing Rodeo. Look for
Robin and I we'll be out there a lot. Yeah,
good stuff, it's a lot.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
You get to be at home with me when I'm
at home and I work from home. Shameless plug. I'm
in the title insurance industry. So you are an independent
title agent in south central West Texas or New Mexico
and you're looking for a great underwriter to add to
your team. You see, have me.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Some podcasts get outside sponsors. We sponsor our podcast, we
get promote our Yeah. Well, let's let's talk a little
bit about since we haven't been on for let's talk
about our holidays.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah, that was fun.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
The holidays were were interesting. Uh. Now, Christmas week, all
of our kids, your kids, my kids, they were all
spread out doing things with their families. So we had
Christmas Day to ourself.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Well, we shared it with our close some close friends,
and we enjoyed our time with Brian and Chris and
I knew they don't have kids and we didn't have
kids for Christmas, so it was good to be able
to just have some time with people we love in Carabou.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Yeah, it was. It was a good time. We had.
We had to lunch down down at the river Walk
at Boudreau's. Yes, you found a bougie, a bougie.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
I know, I think you were a little upset with
me because you wanted to go to meet Tiera's and
I kind of pushed in this boodros on you. So
I apologized later because I realized that's not what you
wanted to do. But it was fun.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah, we had a good time. I don't regret it.
I did miss me Metierra's. I know. I know sometimes
among locals Metiera sometimes get to bad rap with their food,
but I have nothing but good experiences.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Yes, you hear me out. It is incredible, Mateiras it
is Christmas year round there. They have Christmas decorations all
year long, so I mean, it's not like we miss
anything by not going Christmas Day.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
And also Mitira's has a plethora of pignatas well.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
You said that in a very interesting accent.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
It's from the movie Three Amigos. You never saw the
movie Three Amigos.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
I feel like I have because you have so many
quotes and references.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
A plethora of pignas.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I've seen bits and pieces. I haven't watched nearly as
many movies as most people.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Yeah, well, you've just watched good movies, not odd odd
cult comedic crap like I watch right.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
What's the first movie that we ever watched together? Oh? Yeah,
you were just dying to show me your favorite movie of.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
All time coming to America.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
That was our first movie night together. I think you
ordered it off of Prime.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Yeah, Eddie Murphy and what's the other guy? The other comedian?
Speaker 2 (08:13):
I don't know, but it was. It was hilarious.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Yeah, a couple of brilliant comedians. And they're really good.
They play multiple roles in the show.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah, and we watched it many many times since then.
There's so many references to that that we just have.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Anyway, So we had Christmas Christmas Day by ourselves then
that not by ourselves, well no, I know, but not
our crew, not our usual crew. Well, the Broods showed
up on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Indeed, why do you say it with such disdain? My goodness,
they're my beautiful, amazing, wonderful children, and they love you, dear.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
And I love them too. What I get stressed out
about is they're loud, and they're all going at once,
and they bring in their dogs, and the dogs are
all going at once, and I get overwhelmed. I'm just like,
(09:09):
you know, I've got add as it is.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, well, I wouldn't have it any other way. I
love a loud house. That's kind of difference is when
you come together later in life. I came in with
the big bunch, and I like a loud house. I
like things going on and happening. And sometimes it gets
really quiet here because it's just the two of us
most of the time. But I love the love and
(09:36):
the chaos and the fun and the games. And we
played we played a really fun game, and I just
saw you keep taking jello shots. You would keep walking
by and going to the fridge because I made We
made these jello shots in the shape of shots, and
every now and then I would just every like five minutes,
I think I would see you walking to the fridge
and grabbing a shot.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
And I'll tell you the movie it reminds me of
is in Christmas Vacation when everything has gone to hell
in the Griswold House, right, and he and his dad
is telling him is kind of getting on to him,
and his dad's telling Clark, you know you can't do that,
And he just said, Dad, our families were always a
(10:18):
mess Christmas is how did you get through it? And
he said I had a little help from Jack Daniels.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah, well you had some from some red and green
and yellow shots.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Yeah, so I helped myself to the jello shots to
get through the crazies.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
But the fun game, though, we played a fun game
that you did and you didn't participate in the games
this year, which we had a lot of fun. We
played some new ones. We played head, shoulder, Knees and Bows,
and boy man, they were well.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
There's a couple of reasons I don't like always playing games.
Is I feel like it gives you more time to
interact with your kids, and each of those kids time
to do that. And also the other thing is when
I play, I usually win, and I feel like I'm pissing.
I feel like I'm pissing the kids off because I'm
beating them all the time.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
No, it's because if you're adamant, you're adamant to win.
It's like you were going to beat the hell out
of everybody, and it's just like you have to come
at us like that. You know, you can just join in.
It's kind of fun, like, I don't know, Yeah, you're
pretty strong in games.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yeah, so so we, uh, we get through Christmas and
that was the twenty eighth.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Right, that was the twenty eighth, and it was a hoot.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
And then we took most of that. Oh no, we
didn't take that next week off. I took the next
week off.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
I took the next week off.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Well, you did take the next week off. But on Wednesday,
New Year's Day, I had idea. Actually, the day before
New Year's Day. First of all, I've got a hunting
trip that's going to start on on the fourth.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Look, I get a lot of bright ideas, and they
don't always work out most of the time they do.
This one didn't.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Yeah, well on the fourth, I'm gonna go. And so
you're like, I don't want to be a home while
you're hunting, and and so you sv river And the
day before New Year's Day, Robin goes, how would you
feel if I went to Hawaii tomorrow. I'm like, what,
that's a baby. If you want to do that, go ahead, you.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Know, Okay, look hear me out. So my daughter works
for an airlines and I can fly stand by. And
I'm like, there was a lot of seats available. I mean,
there was no problem whatsoever getting into Hawaii. So I
call my oldest her birthday's coming. Ob I'm like, hey,
birthday trip. Come with me and River. Let's go to Hawaii.
Lots of seats we can jump on. I mean, we
(12:50):
rode first class. All three of us are all how
many were there?
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Three?
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Yeah? Three, all three of us to Los Angeles first class,
all of us, and then boom we get to Hawaii.
And then I had a great time. Very expensive in Hawaii.
I did underestimate that. But I did use a lot
of my you know, points and stuff. So I was
like feeling good about this trip. I'm like, we flew there,
didn't cost you money really, you know, just food or
(13:16):
whatever we get there. I use my hotel points. Everything's
going pretty good. Except I realized, like every single meal
is like twenty five dollars a person. I'm like, oh,
this is going to add.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Up pretty that's even McDonald's right now.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
The McDonald prices were commarable to hear. However, their meal,
their items were limited because they would run out of things.
Oh so they got to you know, get them to
the island or what. I don't know if they manufactured
McDonald's there, but we were in OHI, we were in
the Inwaukee Key. So but it was. It was. It
was a blast, just a lot more money than I'm planned.
(13:48):
So I had to do some explaining there, and then
I thought, okay, cool, you know, and then we're just
gonna come back. We'll spend a few days, three or
four days come back. Nay, nay. We could not come back.
We were stranded in Hawaii. And although that sounds amazing
and wonderful and cool, my son had to be at
school on Tuesday, and we started our jaunt to get
(14:12):
back Saturday night. Couldn't get on a flight. Sunday morning,
couldn't get on a flight. Sunday night, couldn't get on
a flight. Monday morning, couldn't get on a flight. And
at that point they were like, you're number fifty four
on the standby list, and it's we could not get out.
We could not get into the mainland, I mean, fly anywhere.
I even was like, let's get to New York. I
(14:32):
don't care, let's just get to the mainland, you know.
So yeah, here I go. So I had to buy
three tickets on Hawaiian airlines to get to Sacramento to
get back. But I got my son back to school.
He missed first period, and that was it we flew back.
We ended up getting back.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
That much first period. But he's got a great vacation
story to do.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
He's got a great story, and man, did we have
some fun and he got to We were talking it
up till we got to visit another capital. Or thing
is we'll visit all the capitals in the United States.
When we learned a lot with the learning experience, you
could never learn and see and do all the things
we did in our time in white at school. So
yeah's first period, shame, shame whatever.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
While she was doing that, I was on my annual
hunting trip.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
And they missed it, and I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
I know you want me to be there for the
well I like you to go when when it's other couples.
We have friends Mike and Roxanne Catuna. They are the
hosts for this trip every year, and the other couple
that goes is a singer from the eighties and nineties,
(15:40):
Aaron Tippin Love Them All and Aaron and his wife.
Thea they go on. This trip was every year and
we haunted different places. This year, we hunted a couple
of places, the Iron Game Ranch, which is up really
right next to William Chris Vineyard up in High Texas,
which is right there off of two ninety between Fredericksburg
(16:02):
and and two eighty one. So anyway, we hunted there.
Then we moved out to the Record Buck branch in Utopia,
and uh, that's that's what I was doing while you
were trying to get out your Yeah, travel.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Well, you know, and in reality, like I did, we
didn't spend all those days waiting at the airport. I
would go like at five in the morning and we'd
try to get on that flight. And then we realized
when we were at like thirty on the list, They're like,
don't even bother you, don't waste your day here at
the airport. Just come back, you know, later tonight and
see if anything comes up. And then so we did
(16:40):
a couple of morning and night when before I finally
just said we can't do this. I got to get
back to the main and bought a ticket. But I
did try to get back to spend a night or
two with you on the hunting trip, but it just
didn't work out.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
So, no, it didn't work out. But anyway, you had
a great time. Young kids had a great time. I
had a great time on the hunt. You know, we
don't have enough wall space to hang any more animals here.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
I'm sure you could find a place or to.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
No, I probably could, but uh, what I really wanted
is some meat in the freezer. And so I shot
an milk cow this year and got that had that process.
So that's a lot of meat. So we get lots
of We got lots of meat to last us this year.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Yeah, and that's great. And I really, you know, I
don't really have to be there for that, you know,
like I celebrate you and your I know, I don't
like to see things done.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
I understand that you don't have to. You just have
to sit in the lodge. That's why I enjoy I
like having you there.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
And I just don't mind being in the lodge and
enjoying the food and the wine.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
And I did another first this year. We haven't traveled
much with our dog with little Joeline.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
She loved it.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
So I took Joelene with me on the hunt and
Aaron and thea tipping. They brought their dogs because they
had to drive their nanny their dog. Nanny couldn't take
care of the dogs and and so I brought Joline
and it was great. Yeah, she had a great time.
She loves people and hanging out with She likes large
(18:15):
crowds more than I do.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Uh, well, we have some stories to tell one day,
not right now.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Yeah, this is true. Yeah we'll tell that story one day.
But yeah, I took the dog and we just they
had a good time. So that that was pretty much
our our holidays and that's kind of catches, uh, catch
you up to date on what we've been doing the
past few weeks. And now we're getting ready for Rodeo
(18:43):
rodeos next week. We just want went to the Rodeo
barbecue cookof which is always a lot of fun. You know,
we still have.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
There's so much fun there. We didn't get to spend
enough time there. We should have probably still longer, but
it was still fun just to see him and all
the fun things that they were doing.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Yeah, our friends got black, had a you know what
a shot ski is? A shot ski? It's a board
did you put shots on? Usually they're small, you know,
like four or five. Well, Scott made one that was
thirteen thirteen shots.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
We didn't partake, but it was fun to watch.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
I mean, you didn't get it out very often because
it's hard to find thirteen people that I don't think
it's trying.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
To find thirteen people at the rodeo barbecue kokop to
do that.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
But but they did. They did the thirteen person shotski.
You actually, actually, if you look at our instagram, look
at our instagram and really we did a reel on
it and you can see the thirteen person shot ski, yeah,
that they were using.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
I'm excited about rodeo. You know what. I love the rodeo.
I like to watch the rodeo. When I go to
the rodeo, I'm just not there for the concerts. A
lot of you see the stadium start pulling up like
halfway through and whatever. But I just love watching the rodeo.
I love every single thing. I love barrel racing, I
love bull riding, I love all of it.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Broncos, I enjoyed the Ranch Rodeo.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
It's so fun too. Yeah, we saw something new at
the barbecue cookoff that the Bad Boys Rodeo.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
The Bad Boys, it's funny.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
I thought about my son Rindon and his fraternity brothers.
I'm like they should have done that.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Yeah, they had teams participating. It's kind of like the
Redneck Games. It was really like. But anyway, they raised
a lot of money the cash for Kids Yes deal
out at the barbecue cookoff, so so fun. So it
was a good time. So anyway, look for Robin and
I at the stock show and Rodeo. We're going to
be out there a months this year. We're still we
still haven't got our schedule completely figured out because we have,
(20:44):
you know, we have life outside Rodeo. Not much during
that two weeks, but we do have yeah going on.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
I've got to do some things, so I'm trying to
figure out. I've been trying to figure my schedule out,
my traveling schedule for work out around Rodyo, and it's
been a little challenging.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
And that's another cool thing about my new job and
my new role at the radio stations as a brand ambassador,
is that I get the opportunity to travel with you
now more not always, but you know it's easy for
me to buy a plane ticket and hop on and
go with you and you got to go to work.
You know, I become your chauffeur, which is great.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
I love that because it allows me a chance to
work in the car as while you're driving. But I
do have a really awesome coworker right now that I
love traveling with and that's just made my job so
much more fun. And I just love her and we
get along really well, and we are like minded in
how we care for folks. And when she can't be
with me, then I get to have you. So I'm
(21:44):
really winning right now. I love this.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
It's good stuff. Yeah, yeah, life is good.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
I think twenty twenty five, I'm hoping it's going to
be full of more good things.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
It already has taken off. I've got some big announcements
coming up here. I'm not going to talk about them
right just yet, but there are some. I've got some
big things that are happening for me and you too.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Really yeah, no, it's going to be so fun.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
There's a lot of cool stuff happening in twenty twenty five,
so I know, yeah, you'll just you'll probably see it
on social media. We'll be talking about it on podcast
in the weeks to come. But thanks for tuning in.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Wait, right now, I'm still trying to figure out what
I'm way to the rodeo, So that's I'm just trying
to play in outfits because I said, okay, I'm not
going to spend a lot of money this year on
wardrobe stuff. You know, want to be conscious and good
about that because I do tend to do that.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Rodeo is expensive. Now let me let me qualify that.
If you're just a family and you're going to go
out and do a rodeo performance, Yeah, you might say
it's expensive. But what you get for your money.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
That's great. Yeah, is a big deal.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Where else are you going to go get for you know,
thirty bucks a person a ticket one of the best
rodeos in the world, absolutely a world class entertaining a concert.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Too, Yes, but if your husband is recording a radio
show at the rodeo and you go shopping, it could
be very it could end up and that's every day.
That could be very expensive. That's right.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
And we're out there. We're out there a lot, so
we're spending money.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
I'm going to be I'm going to do better.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Wow, you know, we'll do as goodness, we'll do.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
We'll I say this and watch me do worse. But
I need I need to do a little bit of
shopping before the rodeo.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Two.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
There's lots of cute We have a cute little boutiques
close to us.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
That's right, and you're you're a lot more worried about
your outfits at the Rodeo that.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
I just love. I Okay, I love fashion. I love
dressing up, I love dressing cute. I just I like fashion.
So yeah, I mean I love it, you know.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
And I'm at the stage in my life where I'm
going which boots are the most comfortable.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
I'm there too sometimes, but it's Rodeo and I like
to be cute, but I also want to be practical,
so I constantly teeter todder all that.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
