Speaker 1 (00:00):
High school basketball in the country is played right here
in southeast Wisconsin. It's time now for the Pick and
Save high school basketball Game of the Week on Fox
Sports nine twenty and your iHeartRadio app. Now, let's go
courtside with Mike McGivern. Here's Bill Schmid.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Welcome back to Gacordia University, Wisconsin. Billy Schmid alongside big
time Mike McGivern. It's the Wby Shootout, the Ringmachaeris Wy
Shootout only on Fox Sports nine twenty and your iHeartRadio
app Appreciate you being alongside for game number two, which
is gonna feature the Edgewood Crimson Tide against Martin Luther Spartan.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Sound like Keith Jackson there. Okay, so I'm glad you
picked up on it right away.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
I joked with Dave Gaspres, and I'm only gonna make
that joke seven times during this game.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
I gotta say hungry for the Crimson Tide.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
You know, Billy, I'm sitting here talking. I don't have
I have all this stuff that I'm supposed to be
giving you, but I'm talking to co Walership. Normally, I
don't have a stun.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
My stun.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
You're having a conversation with coach Walden.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
I don't have a dog in these fights whenever, wet
at all us.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
But today let's go Spartan. Well now, so you can
tell us a little bit about the Spartans.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
And obviously coach Waldersheim crosses the five hundred victory mark. Unbelievable,
a remarkable career that hits last year. Would like to
be able to, you know, add a few more than
just five hundred year obviously, but uh, you got some
guys that you know a little bit about and some
young men who are definitely ready to fill it up
here for the Spartans.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yeah, you know, talking with Paul and we talked maybe
every day. You know, he's one of my best friends,
and we coached together for a long time. And I
ended my coaching basketball coaching career at the high school level.
Went need a state championship with coach Walersheim at Greendale
Martin Luther and I see some teachers in the in
the crowd, I see some players, I see some parents
(01:56):
that I remember, and it's been three years or four years,
and so these are.
Speaker 6 (02:02):
All new players.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
But talking coach Wallash Tim very excited about how they've
been playing defensively, and he said, look, we can get
after it defensively. We got some guys that can defend,
and he said, that's what makes us a little different.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
We can shoot a little bit.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
We get it out, get it down the floor a
little bit, but defensively, pretty happy where we're at.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
So we are ready for tip off here of game
number two as Edgewood takes on Martin Luther, and the
win of the tip is there for Martin Luther as
it's controlled and.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Tap back by a J.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Thomas and he gets it off to number ten Noah Tyler,
who starts out in the home whites, white shorts as
well the white uniforms for Greendale Martin Luther coming out
for Jose Gonzalez. Number three Perry Doris, their leading scorer,
goes and fires off right side.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Yeah, he's been hurt and so he's just kind of
rounded back into shape.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
A little bit.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Brys and Doris also on the starting five for Greendale.
Martin Luther as a good fine and a bounce over
to Bryce a Belle and he opens the scoring for us.
In game number two for Edgewood, a Crimson tide in
there Rode Blacks with some beautiful checkerboard red down the
sides and the white numerals driving in ripped away. Jack
(03:23):
Fox poked it away momentarily from Gonzalez, but Doris gets
it back over to Tyler at the top of the circle.
Now Thomas will work it from the left wing, dribble
handoff out of the corner. Now Thomas corner three buried
for AJ Thomas to start.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Yeah, good patience by Greendale Martin.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Luther Thomas is a big, strapping young man, physical cat
and he can still shoot it a little bit from
the outside.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Now Perry Doris gets a steal at the top.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
He is nearly tied up, but a reaching fil gonna
be called against the Crimson tide. They're gonna get Vinnie
Fox on that one.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
You know the tough part with UH with Edgerton, they
don't put their stats in and you know for guys
like us to be able to to take a look
at their status, but they don't.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
They don't update that very often.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
But I do like Mike that we're in a game
here number two where we're gonna get a pair of brothers.
And I mean that by Vinnie Fox and Jack Fox
and Perry Dorris and Bryson Doris yep, so you get
that competition has a little been a rivalry on the inside.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
I love that deal. Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Uh, it's gonna be difficult for people to be able
to track sometimes, but I'll throw the first names in
there as well.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Man, that's nice to you. That's good and I aim
to please. Yeah, you're awfully good at this, Billy. I
love working with you, that is for sure. Look when
you when you look at at a team like Edgerton,
they've had that They've have one loss this year and
they lost here at the WI Shootout. Other than that,
they have gone undefeated and defensively, I can see what
(05:09):
they're trying to accomplish. Should be interested if they can
keep Greendale. Martin Luther either of the lane steal.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Active hands by Martin Luther, Noah Tyler takes it, runs
up the left side and converts with the left hand,
draws an early time out from the Crimson Tide. With
fifteen fifty eight to go here in the opening half,
it's now seven two spartans and allows us to do
a couple of things that we wanted to do beforehand,
like tell you the starting lineup sprought to by Citizens Bank,
a full service community bank with twelve convenient offices located
(05:37):
throughout Walkershaw and Walworth Counties. While for of those Edgewood
Crimson Tide, Vinnie Fox number two shares it with number
twenty four Jackbox. Also Olin Zelmer out there alongside number
twenty one Cole Langer for the Crimson Tide, and Bryce A.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Pell has the only.
Speaker 5 (05:52):
Deuce for Edgewood to start, we mentioned Jose Gonzalez, Noah Tyler,
Perry Dorris, Bryceon Doris and aj Thomas. Those last three
have already.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Factored in to the stat book to start as Martin
Luther has an early lead. And tonight's tip off was
brought to you by Current Electric Home with the Superheroes.
For any and all your electrical needs, go to call
Current dot com.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
If Martin Luther gets a win today, be the best
start in school history.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (06:22):
See now that is a fact that we would only
be able.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
To have because I talked to coach.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Talk to Coach Waldersheim, and that also answered my next
question of oh, I wonder if Coach Waldersheim.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Is looking for that.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Yeah, he mentioned it to the kids a couple of times.
He may have, and I'm I think he's happy with
the way they've started today, that he was not happy
the way they started the.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Other day when they had the early start.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Langer pull up twelve footer, rolls off, I bounce off
the rim for Cole Langer there and Martin Luther limits
to a shot, Tyler off over to Gonzalez, and now
Perry Dorris will get it at the top of the
circle and Noah Tyler will reset it here for three
(07:08):
nail Martin Luther fifteen thirteen to go in the opening half,
starting out man to man both sides, and now Tyler penetrating, scooping.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
That's Gonzalez finishing.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
At the cup and a great finish for Rose Gonzalez
and a nine to two Martin Luther lead open three
for Jack Fox rolls off loose ball, foul and he
called against Bryce Appelle and nothing early going.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
The right way for Edgewood here in this early matinee.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
That's hey, Billy, I don't mean to it's Edgerton. I
said Edgewood fifteen hundred times, you know, but I I
was gonna wait till a break. But it's all right.
I just thought, you know what, let me just tell
you right now, it's hex you. The right time to
do so was right now, Okay.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Doris Inside rebounded Jack Fox for the Edgerton crimson tide.
Zelmer's three rolls off a pel gets the board, gets
the deuce, and now that we're calling him the right name,
Edgerton is up to nothing, nine to four actually on
(08:26):
the scoreboard, fourteen ten to go here in the opening half,
as Tyler backs it up left hand dribble gives over
to Thomas second three at ten for him, This one
misses everything and.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Edgerton will take over. Yeah, a little quick on that three.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
That's a shot that coach Welisheim would say, Look, we
can get that anytime we want it. Yeah, let's see
if we can't get something going to the basket.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
A little close to the basket.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Zelmer drives against Tyler, turn got two men in the air.
Tough move, better shot, gets it from five away and
trims the lead to three.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
When I talked to coach Wallers time, he said three
is really good.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Might be their best player.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
He's gotten a couple of open looks here. Early Langer
cuts off the drive by Tyler. Both men hit the
deck Tyler keeps the dribble, keeps control and finishes.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Oh that is a great wowa by Noah Tyler.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Yeah, he both guys fell down. He got up and
had a wide wow. Well done.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Eleven to six, Martin Luther leading here.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Early little whistle because Bryce Appel of Edgerton had to
relace up his Adidas kicks. Good spot by the official
and now action's back. Vinny Fox dribbles it out of
the left corner. Now it's Jack Fox out of the
right corner. Straight on. Zelmer gets a ball screen by
(10:01):
a pel doesn't choose the pass to the role man.
Ball dribbled off of a Spartan defender, and it'll stay
here with Edgerton.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Boy igreena. Martin Luther defensively does a nice job. They
really do. They're taking away a bunch of the lanes.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Oh oh, in a great.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Bounce off the inbound pass to Zelmer. He's fouled on
the way up by aj Thomas. Was almost a spectacular rejection,
but got a decent amount of forearm on the way up.
Thirteen minutes flat to go here in the opening half.
As Zelmer goes to the foul line, too strong on
the first one. Very similar to how we talked about
(10:42):
the first game here, Mike. It has started very difficult
shooting for Edgerton. However, you're sitting here knowing that you're
only down now after that one drops down four.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Right with a lot. It's pretty good about that.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Yeah, again, because you're not shooting the ball that well,
and you haven't played I don't think you've played a
team with the kind of quickness that Martin Luther has yet,
so it takes a little bit to get used to that.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Fox bounces into a pell Thomas steals it from right
behind him on the bounce inside. That's a great defensive
play by aj Thomas driving his Doris, bouncing to Tyler
and he comes and resets the offense for the Spartans
at twelve twenty five, thirteen to seven Spartans. Here early
(11:29):
Langer defends for Edgerton and now entered into the ballgame
is Julian Kim. He's into the corner straight on three
by Tyler rolls off right long rebound to Edgerton. They
limit a one shot. Jack Fox brings it across the timeline,
(11:50):
kicks into the corner, now driving flipping over to Langer.
He steps behind the arc can't knock it down. Long
rebound to the Spartans Man whole langer. My kind of
guy catches that thing about fifteen feet away from the basket, thought,
you know what, let me back this bad boy up
a couple of steps and make.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
It a three and a.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
Foul on the ground.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Before Zelmer can get it off, a couple of bodies
hit the floor and AJ Thomas relayss his nikes and
the foul is gonna be against Jose Gonzalez. Pardon, it
is gonna go against Thomas. There are a couple of
bodies in there.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
I didn't know where they were. Gonna whistle that one for.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Now.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
Both Dorises exit for the Spartans.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Redmond enters to start. Now Zelmer gets it off. The
inbound pass working against Kim driving. Look pass inside can't
be converted. The second attempt can't go either for Fred Geiger,
Kittle and Edgerton can't convert back the other way comes
(12:59):
the Bartons. Gonzalez in the corner baseline Drive bounces to Thomas.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
Now top of the key, Redman has.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
It, bounces in between the legs, dribble hand off over
to Thomas.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Now Tyler works drives baseline.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Good great move, great move, and a good finish with
a right hand off the glass.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Take that dribbile handoff and both defensive players went to
the guy they thought he was gonna hand.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
It off to and got a wide open look.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Seven minutes in here in game number two, it's fifteen
to seven, Martin Luther over Edgerton early, Crimson tied looking
for a bucket.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Good back door pass over to Zelmer.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
He can't convert because AJ Thomas is waiting at the cup.
A peal gets it back deep three no good rebound Thomas,
and he is doing it all right now for Martin
Luther defensively and offensively.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
Any mistakes you make on the defensive end, AJ seems
to be there to help clean up.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Now he has it free throw line extended right side
dribble handoff comes to Redmond, who tries to penetrate lose
it momentarily flips over to Tyler, who feeds Thomas underneath.
Raping under is good with the left hand, and it's
a ten point Spartan advantage.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
AJ Thomas is one of our our past Pick and
Save Student Athletes of the Week. He's been a three
age student, and that only a good basketball player, but
a really good student.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Very good basketball player, and he's starting it out early,
a lot of vigor inside feeds fouled on the way up.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Oh, and they're gonna whistle Thomas. That's gonna be his
second and that's gonna be tough.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
As coach Waldersheim over here on the side hits the
surrender cobra pose because he's frustrated. That means that Thomas
is gonna have to exit a little bit.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
Yeah, that's gonna hurt them because he's done a nice
job of cleaning up any issues. If guys are beating
players off the dribble on top, he's there to clean
it up.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Fred Geiger Kittle miss The first active underneath has been
Kittle because he had two opportunities on one of their
last possessions.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Mike, Yeah, he did get a deuce, spins the Spalding
puts it up, rolls down the second, and finally gets
us off the score of seventeen to seven at seventeen
eight Spartans.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
I really like the pace that Martin Luther plays with. Offensively,
they share the ball both sides of the floor. They
move the ball and then get something going to the basket.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Plenty of good movement at that time.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
It's poked away by the Crimson Tide and now Zelmer
feeds up to an open look for a three and
it's knocked down quickly. Eli kittleson seventeen eleven. That's a
big shot for the Tide is they've needed to try
to trim this margin. Kim picks up his ribble, has
(16:00):
to get Noah Tyler to go and grab it near
mid court. Now Redmond gives off to a deep three
from Bryson Doris and he knocks it.
Speaker 5 (16:09):
Down from the left wing. Bryson Doris.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
My kind of guy.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Geiger Kittle has it poked away and stolen by Doris
and he hits the deck and a whistle gonna be
blown against Geiger Kittle. All right, Bryson Doris is gonna
be our player of the game. The Spartans are winning
this game. My man is exactly what you would have
thought Billy Schmid would look like coming in here to
play some basketball, because he's firing from the outside, hitting
(16:38):
the deck and filling out the thirty three.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
He's filling out thirty three. His hair looks a little different.
You're just a little longer. He's a little higher.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Well, his is actually in a much more convenient place
where you can rocket back right in a basketball game.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Yeah, he doesn't have to put it up in a bund.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
No you have now he could at a I don't know,
a good headband in there.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
He really follow him, call him moving screen on Doris.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
He's asking coach waldersheim saying well, no, you moved this
way and said no, it went that way, and Waldersheims said, no,
you didn't.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Our stack guy, our stack guy.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Logan Bonden gets called for files like that, and the
issue is he didn't, you know, he didn't get set
and he moves his feet and he hips a kid.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Well, the kid's gonna go flying when you have I
was gonna say, when you get a little bit more
force behind it, there's gonna be a pretty significant bounce.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
And that's exactly what drew the foul. And then Alin
Zelmer drives the cup converts and makes it twenty to
thirteen with eight o nine to go. Here in the
opening half, Crimson Todd keeping it close. Perry Doris, I
don't know how that's not whistle for a travel got
his own rebound, kicked it back over to Redman, who
fires off to a Jose Gonzalez three misses everything with
(17:50):
the dark corner and now racing into the front cour
comes Edgerton.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
Langer gets it back over to Fox.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Now Langer drives greatsis beautiful dish patience, and Charlie Johnson
pays it off with the right hand.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
You see the.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Difference when aj Thomas is out of the game. Yeah, right,
They they're able to dribble into the paint and make passes.
When he's in the game, he takes all of that away.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
And you have to give credit over to Edgerton. As
Perry Doris knocks down a contested triple from the near corner.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
Yeah, his brother hit one, now, you want he needed,
so I gotta make sure I get one as well.
But you know, it's one thing to have a game plan,
it's another to make sure you execute it.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
And they are definitely trying make a concerted effort to
get to the cup here and.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Now a offensive file against Langer for charging through Redmond
Damari Redman draws that offensive foul. That's gonna be the
second file on Cole Langer for Edgerton, and it's twenty
three to fifteen Martin Luther. They got the basket ball
(19:00):
with seven oh eight to play here in the opening half.
Can make it a ten point lead.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Yeah, he'll be able to keep aj Thomas on the
on the bench. Coach wallerschim being heat uh for the
entire first half if he wants to.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
If they continue, they're up eight right now.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Gonzalez good drive, patient finish off the glass and in
twenty five fifteen, six point fifty to go here in
the opening period, Langer tries to drive straight on against Kim.
A lot of dribbling on the interior has it poked free.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Two on one.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Drive for Redmand finishes at the cup time out Edgerton
needed one and they had to take it a full
time out with six thirty six to play here in
the opening half, it's twenty seven to fifteen Martin Luther.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
Back after this on Fox Sports nine twenty.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
High School Basketball Game of the Week presented by your
local Pick and Safe Stores on Fox Sports nine twenty
in r iHeartRadio app Billy Schmid, Big Time Mike McGivern
pregame Show Today which was really the in between games
show and then quickly became the tip off spectacular brought
to by Calvin Restoration. Why repair when you can restore
Calvin Restoration? There is a difference quality property damage restoration
(20:14):
services since nineteen seventy three. Back action back on the
floor as Martin Luther limits to one Edgerton shot there
on that possession driving is Damari Redmond can't convert with
the right hand three on one race out into the
front court. Jack Fox feeds Bryce a pel and he
trims the margin.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Back to ten.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Yeah, well, coach wallachs Teime will not be happy to
getting beat down the floor like that. Hey, can I
see when's the last time at ten in the morning
you had a hot chicken noodle soup.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
They've been quite quite some time, quite some time. Chicken
noodle soup has been a mainstay in the house.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
For the little guy. But yeah, it's been a while
since that.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Well, you and I both got a text from franchise
Tim allenstine enjoined a bowl of chicken noodle soup listening
to you guys chicken noodle soup ten in the morning.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Well listen for that guy at one hundred and fifty
five pounds soaking wet, right, he could eat a bowl
of chicken noodle soup every two hours and not put
anything on Tomari Redmond misses his left hand, layup, puts
it back in himself and makes it twenty nine to seventeen.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Got a lot of love for him, Oh a lot
of love. Gotting a bulking season for him, going.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
Though, Kim Allen, you ever want to hear a lead
singer in a band who can really sing it, He's
your man.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Three knockdown by.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Vinnie Fox and now it's into a single digit deficit
for Edgerton and that's big Mike here with five minutes to.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Go, it is again.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
You know, this is a different time than guys normally
play other than AAU. And you can see they're starting
to get their sea legs down a little bit, starting.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
To knock down some shot.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Do you notice it as just a different style of
play since heyau as Perry Dorris has called for a
travel there where it is almost easier to play at
this time of day because it is a little bit
more wide open.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
A little bit.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
But I can tell you when coach, when I was
coaching with Coach Wallash, he it would take us two
weeks to get guys to get out of a because
you got the defensive rebound does not mean you get
to shoot.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
On the other end of the floor. That's what we
had to get out of these guys.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
Definitely a different game, that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Cannot play defense standing straight up, those kind of drills
we would do.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Vinnie Fox misses a fifteen footer and Spartans have control
with four twenty to go here in the opening half,
Redmond wild penetration kicks off to Perry Doris in the corner.
Too strong on that three quick shot rebound in the
front court for Edgerton. As Zelman gets to Vinnie Fox
inside of Pell working on big Bryson Doris turn around
(22:48):
five footer is good. That's a sweet stroke for Bryce
A Pell. Let's see if they can get him to
that spot a few more times.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Mike so seven points with four minutes going the first half,
and Martin Luther needs to get a bucket here, and.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
I know that that Edgerton is has scored. I think
the last five or seven was twenty nine seventeen. Doris
is fifteen foot baseline jumper. Too strong, rebound comes to
Jack Fox, gets it Divinnie Fox, who converts it on
the other end. And it's a five point lead for
Martin Luther. Coach Waldersheim takes a time out. Doesn't like
(23:22):
the effort, doesn't like that close right there. He's gonna
take a full time out, will take one as well.
Three thirty seven to play here in the opening half
on Fox Sports nine twenty in Your iHeartRadio App. Three
point thirty seven to go here in the first halfage
twenty nine to twenty four, Greendale, Martin Luther leading the
(23:46):
Edgerton Crimson tide on Fox Sports nine twenty in Your
iHeart Radio App. I'm Billy Shmid alongside big time Mike mcgibbern,
Logan Bonner on the stat Book here Today being produced
at the iHeart Megaplex by Dave Gasper.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
He's tuning. Good job.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Let's say he's better than you told me he do. Yeah,
he's doing a fantastic job. And Mike, he also has
to go. Oh, Bryson Dort's going off the glass. Bryson
Doris knocks bat knocks home, A banked in three, A
deep three as well. Thirty two to twenty four. Again,
my kind of guy driving in there is Jack Fox.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
He hits the deck.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
He had a split two defenders too strong on the
land and now the Spartans run Noah Tylers out the
other end.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
Good time out five oh, run quickly for the Spartans.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
They race back out to a ten point lead, thirty
four to twenty four, driving inside, kicking back over to Zelmer.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Zelmer wild twelve foot or knocks down. Oh, that's the
toughest shot he's taken today. And he knocked that one
down and elevated it with ease.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Looked like he uh the old Patrick Ewing video when
he's coaching Georgetown. Do you practice that shot? Is that
a good shot? Looked like he had practiced that one
a few times. Bryceon Doris triple threat pose gets it
would open three. He misses that one, but his man
picks him back up underneath. That's Jose Gonzalez with the
rebound and the put back draws a file. He'll go
(25:10):
to the line for two with two twenty to play
here in the opening half.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Yeah, Jose Gonzalez is the kind of player that he
could score. He's put up some big games. But boy,
I'll tell you very active defense.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Well.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
I like his game, and I know the coach Wallace
time is very high in him.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Jose Gonzalez knocks down that first of two. Now, Mike,
this is an important question, Coach Waldersheim. Always the tracksuit
deal with the the quarter zip or were you guys
old shirts and ties on.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
The sideline both? You know what, early in the early
he would do kind of a shirt and tie.
Speaker 7 (25:50):
And and.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
I have more shirt and tie than track suit. I
think here we go.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Zelner knocks down a big three on the other end
and makes it a seven point game after Gonzalez hits
the pair to put the lead back to ten. So
two minutes to play in the opening half. Thirty six
twenty nine Spartans. As Redmond bounces over to Kim top
of the circle, Doris dribbles it in between his legs,
now flips off to Tyler Gonzales in the corner, gives
(26:20):
two Doris patients patients.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Doris trying to drive baseline.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
He's rejected by a pel and that is good patient
defense by Bryce Appel to allow Bryce and Doris to
get to a spot where he felt like he was
gonna be able to flip.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
It in and then say yeah, he's no chance.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
He's a big thick hid Doris is and then to
be able to block that shot. I think I don't
think that was a shot. The coach is looking forward,
but he'll take it.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Tyler dribbles it off left wing inside, spinning, floating, no
good rebound comes to a pell and now Edgerton runs
trailing by seven inside a pel one dribble powers up
with the right hand.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
They're getting comfortable.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
That's a good spin and a good patient finished by
Bryce Appel thirty six thirty one.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Racing up the floor of.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
The Spartans, Redmond misses off left side rebound, fought for
foul called against the Spartans on the loose ball. That's
gonna be against Julian Kim And with one nine to
play here in the opening half, the Crimson Tide can
make it a three or a two point game here
(27:28):
on this possession.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Yeah, well, I'll tell you what this. They've closed out
hap run Well.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Now we will reset here as this official saw what
I saw, and the clock didn't run. Falling asleep a
little bit over at the scores table. However, what happens is, Mike,
this is day three of the wall to wall basketball
They written to jers Wy shootout. You're seeing even the
mainstays a little bit slower getting.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Into the action. Matt Mark Miller. He came in here,
rare and ready to go.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Yeah, he had first cup of coffee at six who
setting stuff up?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
He's amazing. I'm a huge fan of his.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Eli Kittleson drives and finishes with the right hand. Good
feed by a pel and it's thirty six thirty three
inside of a minute to play. Here in the opening period,
Tyler one on one against Vinnie Fox. Then his brother
Jack Fox, switches off to him, takes the defense to
the left side. Gonzales top of the circle, looking forty
three seconds to go. Here in the opening half, Kim's
(28:25):
inside feed is poked away and stolen by Zelmer. Two
on two run come to Crimson tide. Zelmer turn around
ten foot, rolls off. Ooh, that looked good.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
One shot here, I think on greena Martin Luther's thirty
seconds to go in the half.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Yeah, with this time, I would assume that's going to
be the coaching point. Now we know how that worked
in our first game. After they said one shot with
thirty to go, there were two steals.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Did not go well.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
I don't think I don't think Martin Luther that's going
to be an issue here.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Deep four quarters offense here as Tyler has it eight
seconds to go working on Fox dribbling, six to go, driving,
tried to come out into the corner with three, with two,
it's kittleson with one pull up, Jay knocks it down
and we're all tied at the break. Thirty six apiece
and a huge close to the period. A seven to
(29:15):
zero run for the Crimson Tide brings Edgerton and Martin
Luther even after eighteen minutes.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Yeah, they I'll tell you that last seven minutes. You
could tell that Edgerton the entire pace of their game.
They spent the night in a hotel, probably goofing around
last night, probably having to get a fun, no doubt
about it, and then got here and try to get
a few shots up. Takes a while to get those
legs ready when you're playing this early.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
That is something else. That's a big close of the half.
And we got a great eighteen minutes on the other
side of this, and a conversation with Sean Cassidy, head
coach of the Concordia Falcons, right after this on Fox
Sports nine twenty and your iHeartRadio app Welcome back to

for our halftime conversation driven by Mike Juno's Brookfield You

Visit Brookfield B at GMC dot com or.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Stop in to one hundred and thirtieth in Capitol Drive
Brookfield B at GMC where the difference really is the deal.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Wow, first time he's been able to get that whole
rest time.
Speaker 8 (30:28):
Yeah, he did good. He don't really just throw toach,
stepped up and I was ready. I wrote it, and
I wrote it horribly. We were joined by Sean Cassidy.
He has been a friend of mine for fifteen about
twenty twenty years. And my son Matthew is here.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
He said, Man, Matthew looks old to me because you
you recruited him when he was sixteen, right, Yeah, he's
not married. He's got five year old Liam Liam Michael
McGivern with him. Who that name, that's beautiful. I is
Idioto my view, Joe by the time he's nine with
that name, I love it. Hey, Sean I love how
the gym looks. Man, you guys redid the gym. It's beautiful,
(31:05):
it really is. It brightens it up. It just looks
different to me. And you got to really be happy
with the job.
Speaker 9 (31:09):
We're so happy our athletic director, Rob Barnhill does such
a great job. Yes, he's talking to people and getting
the right people involved with Pat content and his found
foundation and Catalyst Construction and they it just has turned
out beautiful. We can't can't imagine what it was before,
although I was here a long time before. It looks
(31:30):
it looks so good.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
And Catalysts Construction, look, the owner there has that servant
leadership heart that we talk about and he really does
a lot in our community along with Pat Conaton Foundation.
And you got to thank them, and I'm glad that
you did, because you know, guys like companies like that
that step up, that that do things like they did.
Hear in this Concordia gym just makes it a world
of difference to these student athletes.
Speaker 6 (31:52):
Oh absolutely.
Speaker 9 (31:53):
And all you have to do is walk around our
campus and see what Catalyst has done with the locker rooms,
with the with the baseball facilities, the baseball so off
ball indoor facilities. No, it's it's great to have partners
like that in the community that have given generously, which
has been outstanding for us as coaches, but for the
student athletes, they're reaping rewards.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
Hey, I you know, I've been a part of the
wy shot up for a long time when it was
at the l McGuire Center, and when they said, look,
we're going to make a change and come out to Concordia,
I was really happy. I didn't know how it would
be received. It has been received. The parking is great,
location is great. And the way you and your staff
and your team, the way you guys work this event
(32:32):
to make it comfortable for everybody is so impressive to me.
How do you get your players whether they're here at
a five am shooter on or something. Then they're making popcorn,
then they're making hot dogs and hamburgers. They work the concession,
They do it with a smile, they thank people that
walk in.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
I just it's very.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Impressive the way you guys do this. I appreciate that
it was seven thirty. I'm not a monster, it was
only seven thirty. I'm one hundred percent ivers. The next
time I tell the story. It's gonna be four thirty.
There's a four to thirty shoot a run man. Cassidy's
a monster.
Speaker 9 (33:02):
You ask some of those kids in the concessions right now,
they're gonna swear I got them here at five, But no,
they're They're awesome young men.
Speaker 6 (33:09):
And that's what makes it so much fun to be here.
We recruit the right kind of young men.
Speaker 9 (33:13):
Yes, they are here for Concordia, and they represent us well,
and they understand a lot of them played in this
so this means something to them. And and our associates
with Majeira's family, they understand what.
Speaker 6 (33:25):
That name means in Milwaukee. And how good a people
we're dealing with?
Speaker 4 (33:29):
Are you the dean of the coaching the league?
Speaker 10 (33:32):
Now?
Speaker 4 (33:33):
Like you were a young guy, but we've started hanging
out to be but now you're kind of the dean.
Speaker 6 (33:39):
Right, I'm one of the men. I'm one of the
older ones.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Guys, come kiss the ring or what.
Speaker 6 (33:43):
I don't have enough friends.
Speaker 9 (33:46):
I need to get a few more of those and
start flaunting it. But right now I'm just grying, how
is this year's team? We're good, We're good. We don't
we hadn't showed it early. We're brand new. Uh, no
one really in our starting lineup had had to had
any kind of experience with us. So we're coming together.
So we started off with a really tough schedule. I
(34:07):
think we were top ten in the country in difficulty,
and now we've turned it around. We've won three in
a row. We did a great trip in Florida. I
think the guys really came together playing down on the
beach and some sand volleyball and beating on each other
in the pool.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
That'll work. That'll work.
Speaker 9 (34:23):
Where everybody else is trying to be cool, our guys
are just jumping on each other and it is.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
It was awesome to sit around and watch.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
How much fun is that?
Speaker 3 (34:31):
Coach?
Speaker 2 (34:31):
I'm a huge proponent of V three Athletics played it
and called a couple of year games over at Carol
when I was there as well.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
And just being able to do it in the city
and being able to see the talent at.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
This level, I mean, you guys are able to choose
from a great crop of players because the talent the high.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
School level just keeps getting better.
Speaker 10 (34:48):
Oh.
Speaker 9 (34:48):
Absolutely, the state of Wisconsin is outstanding for the quality
of basketball players.
Speaker 6 (34:54):
And then the coaches.
Speaker 9 (34:54):
Yeah, we are so lucky, and I don't think we
realize this, just how good of coaches we have. And
it's fun to see a number of our alumps that
are coaching and seeing them on the bench and getting
a chance to see them. And then they come back
and complain about someone not doing something and he say,
that was you this one I was on you about.
Then that's that's the best part of coaching.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Great Nixon was here and I coached you, met Dominican
and now he's a personal trainer. He does these videos
and I go, Ray, you tell people about getting in
the weight room and eating rite.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
Where was that when you were seventeen? He said, Man,
I have no idea. I had a lot of other things.
I was trying a lot of things I was trying
to accomplish. He is Sean Cassidy, the head men's basketball
coach here at Concording to the university, and just a
great host.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
These guys do it right and Mark Miller appreciates everything
you guys do.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Coach well.
Speaker 9 (35:47):
Again, Mark is an outstanding person, just a great person
who does a great job of covering Wisconsin high school basketball.
And again the Majerira's family is incredible and what they've
been able to do for us and just getting a
chance to know them and hear their story is.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Four hundred thousand dollars worth of scholarships they've given out.
Speaker 6 (36:03):
It is incredible, absolutely incredible.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
And Rick mcjers would be so happy, Oh, absolutely be
so proud of they're doing.
Speaker 5 (36:09):
And you know what, he would not have been one
of the late guys here on day three.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
He'd been sitting here before been he'd have been sitting
here for the seven thirty shoot around.
Speaker 6 (36:19):
Probably running my shoot around.
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Yeah, I would have let him.
Speaker 6 (36:21):
I would have let him do it.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
And his favorite player would be the kid from Greendale,
Martin Luther. I think it might be.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
Yeah, he would be his favorite player, you know what,
the same size and he can shoot three's perfect.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Yeah, that would have been ricks player. Coach. Really appreciate
the time.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
Thank you for having Thank you guys for being I
appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
You bet Sean's good to see you.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Coach Shawn Cassy joining us here from Concordia University, wisconsint
coach of the Falcons, and they will be back on
the floor coming up this week off of their Christmas
break and we are bret back right here as the
halftime break is over and the halftime show driven by
Mike Juno's Brookfield be at GMC Visit Brookfield b at
GMC dot com or the difference really is the dealer
(36:59):
action back for a short halftime and Mike, that's just
such a fun conversation to be able to have.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
I with Coach Caste and I know we should.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
Have gone to a break, and I apologize back at
the station there, but man, anytime you get a chance
to talk to Sean Cassidy and talk a little bit
about how long he's been here to the.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
Job he does, I did. We need to take advantage
of that, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Well, And as Edgerton pokes it back into the back court,
and it's going to be an over and back violation
because they were the ones that poked it back here,
errandle Mike, I.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Was the one that crowbard in the last question.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Because the state of Wisconsin, I've been talking about it
and we've done it a multitude of different times.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
The talent is continually getting so much better.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
I want these kids to know there's a great opportunity
to play after high school and this is one of them,
and they're giving great athlete experiences to these kids post
high school.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
One hundred percent. And I like the fact that he
said good coaches.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
When I talked to college coaches all over the country
on my high school show, they talk about kids that
that I come in from Wisconsin are really well coached,
and they continually say that, And that makes me feel
pretty proud about our coaches here in the state.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Hundred percent. And you've seen it. You competed against these coaches.
These kids know how to play, and they play the
right way. Coming out right out of the gates, Damari
Redman gets himself a drive and scoop and score, and
the first deuce of the second half goes way of
Martin Luther. And now they get the first well steal
turnover by Edgerton as they pass it into the stands,
(38:32):
so an unforced turnover. About a minute into the second half,
it's thirty eight to thirty six Martin Luther. A big
close to the first half by Edgerton to get this
thing close again. Mike and I assume as Redmond swats
has that one swatted away from him by a.
Speaker 5 (38:48):
Packed over the coffee for the coaching staff for w
Green Bay. Little coffee spilled on the notes is going
to be a difficult spot. But luckily, I know all
the important notes are in that fingy. The one coach
has protected himself.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
But man, that coffee got hit and it's gone, and
every all the notes he's taken said he's amateur.
Speaker 3 (39:14):
Get one of these sealed cups and then won't happen
next time?
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Thirty eight thirty six the score as Martin Luther still
has it in the offensive zone. Noah Tyler trying to
free himself up on a drive, misses it, gets his
own reno, fought for it, puts it back up, drops
it down and won.
Speaker 5 (39:30):
Now that is a great hustle play by Noah Tyler.
Look who's getting start. Look who's getting the napkins for
the coaching staff. The US Marine Corps man, they're right
there with napkins. They're their help. And now generally don't
call the U. S. Marines for a napkin, but they're
there when you need them. They're there when you need them.
I know that few the proud the Marines. Hey, Collette
would be very proud of these guys. Collette would not
(39:52):
be yelling them.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
They clean up a mess, no doubt about. The Marines
are always cleaning up the mess. The few, the proud
the Marines.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
It's been a messier early for the first minute for Edgerton. However,
Bryce appeal misses, cleans up the miss from Zelmer and
brings the Crimson tied back within a deuce. It's forty
to thirty eight, sixteen minutes to play here, pick and
say high school basketball game of the week.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
You know, the start of the second half is a
lot different than our first game. I feel like we're
in for a good finish here today. Couldn't agree with
you more.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
Both of the games finished at half with what feel
like really momentum changes minutes and.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
That really is what it was.
Speaker 5 (40:35):
It was thirty seconds in both games.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
Yeah, the first one, you agreed, took green Dell out
and and Edgerton really that last three minutes put him
back in the game.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
And I think we're gonna have a good finish here.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
Redmond working against Vinnie Fox drive cutof Tyler feeds Redmond
straight on for a triple and tomorrow Redmond knocks it down.
Speaker 4 (40:59):
Yeah, all of coach Wallersheim's teams for a while, not
very good at penetrating, kick, penetrate and kick, relocate penetrate
and kick. And if they're hitting shots, they're gonna be there.
They're they're gonna be tough for Edgerton to beat.
Speaker 5 (41:16):
Forty three eight.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Bryce Doris checks out early substitution for coach Waldersheim, and
Zelmer knocks down a triple of his own to answer
right back for the Crimson Tide.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Alan Zelmer having himself a day here forty three forty
one spartans over the Crimson Tide. Tyler has it working
against this man a man defense tips off.
Speaker 5 (41:39):
To the left side.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Now it drives over, flip into a two three zone.
Flip it over to Paris Perry Doris, who misses a
deep corner. Three tied hold the one possession and they
have a chance to take the lead here, Mike.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
They do, and and you gotta feel pretty good about
where you know. After the first six or seven minutes.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
Zelmer three two strong rebound pulled down by Kittlesen and
the Tide having a second chance pump fake gets a J.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
Thomas up in the air.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
Zelmer patiently waits for him to clear and ties it
at forty three.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
Yeah, Zelmber's gut.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
He's the one player on Edgerton that coach Wallerschim had
a little concern about.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
With him, and I see why got fourteen here early
Thomas corner. Three hits the side of the glass and
now a chance to take the lead for the Crimson Tide.
They trailed this thing as many as thirteen in the
opening half. Zelmer to Kittlesen baseline left, give off to
(42:40):
Vinnie Fox three, no good rebound poked up into the
air and now controlled by Tyler. He'll run it for
the Spartans into the offensive zone. Wants a dribble hand
off to Gonzalez in the corner. Instead, we'll have to
give to the top of the circle with Redmond working
on Zelmer, fake to three dribble handoff Doris. Not a
lot of movement here in Martin Luther offense been real stagnant,
(43:03):
very perimeter based in hash.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
Yep, there's a good feed by.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
Perry Doris as he finds Gonzalez on the left block.
Retake the lead do the Spartans, and now a timeout
for a shoe which Now, Mike, you've been around this lone.
Speaker 5 (43:19):
They've been very very good. I'm catching the shoe violations.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
Heeries and a half.
Speaker 5 (43:23):
That's the third whistle we've had here for either a release.
Speaker 4 (43:28):
You know, back in the day, Wayne Jensen used to
coach Milwaukee Luthor and if the team got a run
on him and he didn't have timeouts left, this kind
of stuff he would put. He's now the principal at
Milwaukee Lutheran, by the way, I like, and my daughter's boss,
so I really should be a little quiet here, right.
Speaker 5 (43:44):
I probably wouldn't say the stock he used to.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
Yeah, he pulled it. He knows to say.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
Just you know, happen stand Zelmer again, beautiful patients on
the right block, gets the defender in the air, lets
him clear and ties it up on the block at eight,
got sixteen red drives, He misses it short rebound on
the offensive glass for Gonzalez, backs it up to Doris
and the Spartans get a second opportunity. Doris wants a
(44:09):
ball screen, pulls back, gives the Tyler swinging around the perimeter.
Redmond has it against Zelmer. Dribble handoff to Tyler, weaves
at the elbow, scooping and they're gonna count the basket.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
And one.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
I was with you Mike, I thought that's what the
whistle was for. Instead, it's for a file that they're
gonna call. Coach waiting for the number here against Jack Fox. Yeah,
coach travel as well, but he's really far. He's down
the other end. Difficult when you're that, I think this
is a great call.
Speaker 4 (44:47):
That's what I think, man, Billy, this is weird to
have you know, I'm actually rooting for one of these
teams and we're not supposed to do that, like not
letting it, letting it show through another shoetting problem.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
Let's hit a double knot on that bad boy, and
now Kettlesen is gonna exit to be able to figure
out what's going on with that lace.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
Coaches sitting him right next to him, said hey, let.
Speaker 4 (45:15):
Me show you how to let me see this, let
me show you how to tie shoe up and under.
Speaker 2 (45:22):
Tyler knocks down the back end of the and one
and makes it forty eight forty five thirteen minutes to
play here in game two of our doubleheader here early
morning on Fox Sports nine twenty.
Speaker 5 (45:35):
Zelmer elbow jumper is good.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
He's heating up.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
Dude hasn't missed in the second half, and he brings
the Crimson tide back within a point. Good release point
on all of these shots too by Zelmer, really patient,
Redmond drives misses off the glass, racing into the front
core comes Jack Fox chance to take the lead, and
they do left side right forty nine forty eight Edgerton.
(46:05):
The runs even better if you factor in what happened
just before the end of the half. A pell I
believe is gonna get called for the file is Gonzales
went up left block and that is who they whistle
the file against. It's Bryce a Pel's first, Edgerton's third
here of the second half, twelve thirty to go. Here
(46:27):
in the ball game, Martin Luther having a lot.
Speaker 4 (46:30):
Of success finding gaps and getting to the basket and
either trying to finish or making a pass. And they've
done a really good job of finding the gaps. They've
got to finish some of these. I feel like if
you talk to coach Wallace time, he feels like they
should be up six or eight with some of these
(46:50):
layups and some of these and ones that they they've
not been able to finish. But doing a great job
of spreading the floor and getting into the gaps and
making decisions on whether they shoot it or pass it.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
Gonzalez knocks down the second, makes it a one of
two trip forty nine a piece with twelve twenty to play,
Zelmer pumps a three drives baseline, goes right at Bryce
and Doris and can't convert. That might be his first
miss of the half. Perry Doris gets the rebound, runs
into the front court, drives right through a couple of
Edgerton defenders, bounces it to Gonzalez and he's fouling the
(47:23):
way up again.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
Got into the gap, made a great pass and we're
not able to finish through a little bit of contact.
Speaker 2 (47:31):
But being able to collapse that defense has been the
way for the Spartans to get open looks. So Gonzalez
was one to two on his last trip, spins the
Wilson drops down the first and it is fifty to
forty nine. And you said coach Waldersheim might think there
(47:51):
should be up six or eight watching him, you think
they're down twenty.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
And he's really calm down over the year. No, yeah,
that must have been really.
Speaker 5 (48:00):
Entertaining back in the day.
Speaker 3 (48:03):
For some people, for some people, for some people.
Speaker 4 (48:06):
Now, you remember sitting real when you just say, hey,
don't get thrown out. You know I was, I was
the assistant. Don't get thrown out, and you know every
once in a while, maybe you're at one.
Speaker 2 (48:18):
Zelman comes off on the screen, knocks down a triple
and puts Edgerton back up in front. What a second
half for Zelmer as he already has nine here in
the second half, matching his nine that he had in
the first Bryce and Doris corner, three misses, everything over
the backfile gonna come against Gonzalez and the Crimson Tide
(48:41):
have the lead now the basketball at fifty two to
fifty one.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
Yeah, we're gonna know he coached Wallace time.
Speaker 4 (48:49):
He's gonna challenge who's ever defending Zelman at this point?
Speaker 3 (48:53):
We need to do a better job. You don't have
to help now, just take him out of the game.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Zelmer, a six foot senior filling it up here in
the second half. He comes and has the basketball in
the near corner off a Kittlesen feed, dangerous cross court
pass to Vinnie fox Is three buries it from the
corner and the largest lead of the day for Edgerton.
It's fifty five fifty one with eleven h nine to go,
(49:20):
Tyler into the zone missus a left hand floater rebound
comes to Edgerton. Bryce Appel goes and saves Vinnie Fox
in the back court. Now Zelmer behind the back dribble,
drives back up to a pel slows it down to
the Crimson Tide. Zelmer has it free throw line extended
right side, working against Bryson. Doris has no size advantage whatsoever,
(49:42):
so he says, Vinnie Fox, wantn't.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
You try another?
Speaker 5 (49:45):
Knocks it down.
Speaker 3 (49:47):
One and back to back three's from Vinnie Fox. The
sophomore guard.
Speaker 2 (49:56):
Gives the Crimson Tide team a seven point lead with
twelve ten and a half minutes to go. Julian Kim
dribbles it out of the corner. Doris, working against Fox,
trying to back him down five feet away, patiently steps
through the contact, can't convert, steps on the line as
he gets his own loose ball and a turnover for
(50:16):
Martin Luther.
Speaker 4 (50:17):
Yeah, Perry's offensively, he's uh, he's one of their guys, right,
and so he's got to start hitting some shots and
see if he can't get to the baskets, see if
he can get to the free through line a little.
Speaker 2 (50:29):
Bit Zelmer as it pokes away from on the way
up good strip. Now bodies hit the floor in the
far base line.
Speaker 3 (50:36):
Ten oh two to go.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
It's gonna be Edgerton basketball. They got a seven point
lead and feeling very good right now.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
Yeah that again.
Speaker 4 (50:46):
If that last three minutes the first half, Philly completely
changed the direction of this game.
Speaker 3 (50:52):
Zelmer off the inbound ten foot or no good rolls
off left, maybe the easiest shot he's had today, and
he missed that.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
I missed that one, no doubt under tend to go
pass fed over well was towards us.
Speaker 3 (51:04):
Was intended for Julian, Kim and Mike.
Speaker 2 (51:08):
I haven't been able to make up for the fact
that the only loose ball that came over here I
was unable to corral on Thursday night. Yeah, I thought
that was going to be my opportunity. Yeah, I was
a little make up.
Speaker 4 (51:20):
I was a little embarrassed for the way you you
pulled your hand back and like you're afraid of the ball. Oh,
I don't know if that's exact. I think that's what happened.
At least it didn'tkno exactly, didn't knock your coffee down
like it did Green, big guy.
Speaker 5 (51:32):
Ball is knocked free from Jack Fox.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
The reason why is because he was contacted and Fox,
the senior guard, is going to go to the fall line.
Two shots for the Crimson Tide, who lead it by seven.
Now eight as Fox makes the front.
Speaker 4 (51:50):
End Greenda Martin Luther's been stuck on fifty one for
a while here, and I will be I will.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
Admit after the last Fox three that made it a
seven point lead, you said time out, and I'm surprised
Coach Waldersheim didn't go for one.
Speaker 3 (52:08):
Nine thirty five to go.
Speaker 2 (52:09):
Jack Fox two dribbles, eyes up the back of the iron,
knocks down the free throw, makes it a nine point
Crimson Tide lead.
Speaker 4 (52:19):
Yeah, they need to hit a get a basket here,
start getting defensively.
Speaker 3 (52:26):
They gotta dig in a little bit, gets some stops.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Doris slowly walks it across the timeline, gives over to
aj Thomas, who was.
Speaker 3 (52:33):
A massive factor early.
Speaker 2 (52:36):
Exited early in the first half as Gonzales drives and converts.
Speaker 3 (52:40):
Thomas. Since he checked out with those two fouls, has
been pretty quiet.
Speaker 4 (52:43):
He has been defensively then nice job of telling people
where to be and again he stays in the middle
of that that defense and helps out any mistakes from
up top.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
Jack Fox has it left elbow, gives over to Vinnie
now in the Warner Kittleson drives baseline, gives off to
a pel Wing. Three rolls off for Bryce ap Pell
loose ball comes to Zelmer. He gets filed on the
way up, no call, but he converts the deuce anyway. Wow,
a lot of contact on the way up. He hits
(53:15):
the deck but finishes and makes it a nine point lead.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
Again.
Speaker 4 (53:18):
I mean two guys that were boxing bout. He kind
of slipped through and Olin Zelmer is having.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
Himself Ada Appel rid Jex Doris on the five foot turnaround.
Now Appel has it, feeds Zelmer, who wants to back
it up nearly travels against Thomas and will slow it
down for the Crimson Tide and instead speed it up
with Jack Fox's drive lay in and one with the
left hand count the bucket. It's an eleven point Crimson
Tide lead, a chance to make it even more here
(53:52):
at the foul line for Senior Jack Fox. Fox had
just one point in the first half, already has six
here in the second.
Speaker 4 (54:08):
Yeah, it looks like Coach Wallersheim's gonna go a little
bit smaller, a little bit quicker. Took out his two
bigs and brought in two guards. And I think it's
good move. We gotta we gotta shake it up a
little bit, or they they have to shake it up
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
Excuse me, No one heard that. Fox ended up knocking
down the free throw. He turned around like he knew
it was in before it he was halfway to the cup.
Redmond orchestrating the offense, hands off to Tyler. Noah, Tyler
working on Kittlesen. Now top of the circle. It's Doris
a pel not gonnafend Julian Kim all the way out
(54:47):
at the three point line. Hill relax back. Now Tyler
tries to drive. They just can't penetrate so far. Redmond
kicks over to Kim, gets it back in the corner.
Redmond three Berry in a big shot, making a nine
point game. Now after that possession, Mike, they needed that one,
they did, and they need to dig in. Now get
(55:09):
a stop and get the rebound if they miss his shot.
Zelmer gets a ball screen dribble, hand off to Jack Fox.
Jack Fox drives hesitation good take and finish with the
right hand man. Fox saw an opening, thought it was
gonna close, didn't, so he said, hey, I might as
well try that. Takes it right through the lane, and
(55:31):
with seven o five to play, the Crimson Tide got
an eleven point lead. Redmond eyes up another three rolls off.
This one rebound comes to Vinnie Fox and the Crimson
Tide roll into the front court a pell straight on
against Doris. He has it poked away, gets it back
over to Fox. Now Zelmer his three heap rolls off right.
(55:55):
That was gonna be a why not situation that goes
down The Spartans were really gonna be looking for answers.
Six point thirty five to go here in the game,
Perry Doris drives a lot of contact, no whistle, but
Bryce Appel straight up on the defense, and now the
Crimson Tide into the offensive zone finds Zelmer all alone underneath.
It's sixty nine fifty six Crimson Tide Edgerton rolling here.
(56:20):
What a second half answer. They're in the midst mic
of a twenty to six run kick out to Doris
three on the way, no good. Kittleson gives over to Fox,
limiting to one shot seemingly every time down the floor.
Vinnie Fox works it inside kick over to Zelmer three
(56:42):
on the way, short rebound to Kim and Redmond racing
finishing trims the lead to eleven time out. Martin Luther,
they've been waiting for it by point forty four to play. Here,
it's sixty nine to fifty eight Crimson Tide. Full time
out on the floor, will time one as well. You
got the pick and safe high school basketball game of
(57:02):
the Week on Fox Sports nine twenty in your iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (57:17):
Welcome back to Concordia University, Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (57:19):
Here in mechwan As, the Falcons are gracious hosts of
the Rick Majeris WI Shootout, and here in the second half,
the Edgerton Crimson Tide are taking full advantage of the hospitality.
They close this thing to make it an even thirty
six thirty six score at the half with a big
five zero run, and they have run ever since, Yeah,
(57:44):
to a thirty three point second half, Mike, and we
still got five thirty six of it to play.
Speaker 4 (57:50):
Yeah, They've they've been impressive since about about with four
or five minutes to go in the first half, and
everything they've been doing so far since then has.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
Worked trailed it by as many as thirteen, They've led
it by as many as thirteen, lead it by eleven.
Right here and Alin Zelmer has been one of the
biggest reasons why. He misses that floating right hook and
the Spartans limit to one possession. They need some stops
here to string together, and now they give it over
to Redman, who has been one of their main offensive kuys.
(58:21):
Bryce ap Pell rejects that fifteen footer and with five
minutes to go, the Crimson tide make it even more
difficult against the Spartans Offensively, Zelmer slows it up against
Redmond and wanted to drop it inside to a pel
He's got a good size advantage against Julian Kim. Instead,
Zelmer drives it all the way baseline, gives back over
(58:44):
to Kittlesen, and now Vinnie Fox has it. Head coach
from Edgerton doesn't like it, takes time out, will take
one as well. Back after this on Fox Sports nine
to twenty, gonna name a US Marine Corps Player of
the game in few the Proud the Marines after this
tip off of tonight's game was brought to you by
(59:04):
Current Electric Home of Superheroes. For any and all of
your electrical needs, go to call Current dot Com. Not
the night, but could be anytime at night if you're
listening to us on the iHeartRadio app worldwide. So whether
it's ten in the morning or ten at night, you
give me enjoying the high school basketball game of the week.
Speaker 5 (59:21):
Right now, we're enjoying a good one.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
Edgerton, good comeback here as they lead it by eleven
for twenty five to go over the Greendale Martin Luther Spartans.
Speaker 5 (59:30):
Jack Fox kicks over to Eli Kittleson in the corner.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
Now Vinnie Fox, the sophomore penetrates drops it over to
Bryce Appel. A lot of patients on the offensive side
here by Edgerton. They've passed up a couple of good looks.
Mike waiting for a great look and try to burn
some time.
Speaker 4 (59:47):
They are and they're strong with the ball, and they'll
take a layup, they'll take a foul, but I don't
think you'll see too many long jump shots going up
right now.
Speaker 3 (59:58):
Hey, by the way, I just realized to.
Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
The good bounce store Matt cunning Zelmer and there it
is the coach that spilled his coffee from UW Green
Bay to your right.
Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
Yes, maybe one of the greatest basketball players ever to
come out of Toast. He's Jerry Smith. Holy cow, Yeah,
he is right there. His dad was back of a coach.
He was one of the he was one of the
greatest high school basketball players I've ever seen. Right there,
he school basketball players. George hass George Hodson talked to
me for a year.
Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
I like the other coaches that he's a little lord rated.
Speaker 4 (01:00:33):
Hey, I I they they had a chance to win
a state championship and Hats left him in a game
so he could be the all time leading scorer and
he got hurt, and I went on. I went off
on Hostin said, look, him getting the school record wasn't
as big as the winning state champion. George, who talks
to everybody, didn't talk to me for a year. Jerry
(01:00:53):
Smith is over there laughing. He said he had just
talked to coach this morning.
Speaker 3 (01:00:57):
Man. He that man.
Speaker 4 (01:01:01):
I'll tell you what he was In my view, he
was not overrated. And will you talk about some of
the players coming out of Tosa East. Jake Walter with
one of the best event, one of the best all
around athletes. When you talk about basketball players, that guy
right there as good as any of them, man as
good as as good as any of them. I love
the fact that he's back in our state recruiting high
(01:01:23):
school kids because I would love to I'd love to
know what this Jerry Smith would say to senior in
high school. Jerry Smith, you know what he would say, Look,
you're doing just fine. Maybe come out of the games,
so don't worry about that. So let's go win the
state championship.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
That's what I think.
Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
I think they're trying to win a Horizon League championship,
and that might be even better reason to be able
to do it right now. It is a great event though,
Mike and we talk about it, with the caliber of
players that are coming out through the state of Wisconsin
right now, be able to keep those players and have
some really really good players playing in the state extremely important.
Speaker 3 (01:02:01):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (01:02:03):
And when you got guys like Terierry Smith and Damon
Archibald from from Green Bay. He's a Boise State guy.
We won't hold that against him. Yeah, should associate head
coach at Iowa stayed at one point in his career,
but he's up in green Bay. And look these guys
are here watching our high school kids and giving them
a chance to play at the next level.
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
Yeah, a couple of good Arrowhead kids up there, man,
real proud of the work they've done.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
And they're turned. They're gonna turn that thing around. Hey,
not the best second half of my Spartans from Martin Luther.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
No, and and quickly that's that tune has changed as
Perry Dorris goes and gets himself a nice deuice. Uh,
you have dropped off the my Martin Luther a couple
of times since they've gone down a dozen.
Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
There's still my Martin Luther's I still love.
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
I was gonna say, I think pretty quickly here if
this will turn around. Now there's a foul coming against
the Spartans. I think that's gonna be called against Redmond,
and that's exactly who they whistle it for.
Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
It's the sixth team file Martin Luther.
Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
And with two forty three to go down twelve, Mike,
you gotta be judicious with it, but you gotta start
trying to keep that time on the clock and probably
start playing a little bit of the foul game.
Speaker 4 (01:03:13):
Yeah, I don't normally that's something that coach Waller's time
will do, especially when they're down double digits.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Might try it once or twice. They get a trap
and they get a time out. For Madison Edgewood, they'll
take a full time out. We'll take one as well.
Seventy three sixty one two twenty seven to go Here
on Fox Sports nine twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:03:32):
In your iHeartRadio, app to twenty seven to play.
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
It's the high school basketball Game of the Week, presented
by your local Pick and Safe Stores, Citizens Bank, the
US Marine Corps, Caumon Restoration, Brookfield, Buick, gmc b IC Automotive,
Current Electric, Donovan Jurgensen Heating and Cooling, and the Rick
majeris WI Shootout.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
That's where this game is going on right now.
Speaker 2 (01:03:57):
Edgerton leading Greendale Martin Luther seventy three to sixty one.
Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
Good feed underneath to.
Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Bryce Appel and he converts with the left hand makes
it a fourteen point Edgerton Crimson Tide lead. What a
run here so far? A good finish drive to the cup,
can't get the shot to fall dos. Noah Tyler does
get a pair of free throws for his efforts. He
steps up to the charity stripe and Edgerton has really
(01:04:26):
been impressive here in the late going. Ever since about
the nine minute mark of the first half. Tyler a
high attempt there on that first free throw rolls off
a lot of time two to four to play, but
quickly dwindling on the Martin Luther Spartans shot knocked down
(01:04:50):
here on the second makes it seventy five sixty two.
Olin Zelmer gonna be a hard one to beat for
our US Marine Corps Player of the Game. Edgerton's able
to hold onto this lead. Senior guard has been extremely
impressive here in the second half, and he dribbles it around,
trying to waste some time, drawing some defenders, weaving his
(01:05:14):
way around the back court all Zelmer and now finally
fouled by Noah Tyler and right there they'll finally get
the whistle with one forty one to go. But man
Zelmer was just running around, weaving his way through. He's
wasting as much time as possible, big time.
Speaker 4 (01:05:32):
Yeah, he might might be an easy US freen Player
the game, Sam, He's good.
Speaker 5 (01:05:37):
And we wanted to try to find somebody else. I
think it'd be difficult.
Speaker 2 (01:05:41):
Is he knocks down the first one of the Fox
brothers might be a good honorable mention. But this second
half closed by Zelmer has been fantastic.
Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
Yeah he again. Coach Wallersheim was a little bit worried
about him, and and I see why, fully understand why.
Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
He knocks down a pair, makes it a fifteen point
Crimson Tide lead. AJ Thomas hit an early triple and
now gets his second of the day, makes it a
twelve point game once again. With one thirty three to go,
we'll take a time out here on Fox Sports nine
twenty in your iHeartRadio app. Welcome back to the rigular
(01:06:20):
Jeris wy shootout Wall to wall basketball. And if you
are looking for something to do here on a damp,
little rainy afternoon here in the Milwaukee area, get over
to Concordiam mechwan. It's plenty warm inside and the action
will continue all day long. Right now, it's Edgerton rolling
(01:06:41):
is the Crimson Tide trailed it by thirteen, Now they
lead it by twelve. As AJ Thomas pokes that ball
away with a minute twenty to go, let's the Spartans
run into the front court.
Speaker 5 (01:06:51):
Perry Doris knocks down to travel and now it's a
nine point game.
Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
Full court press come for the Spartans as Zelmer trapped
into the back court.
Speaker 3 (01:06:58):
A lot of content.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
Redmond whistled for the foul. Coach Waldersheim didn't necessarily seem
to disagree with that one, And Mike, you're more frustrated
with the reef swatt in the reings.
Speaker 4 (01:07:11):
You know what they had trapped through the corner, hands
straight up, just trying to tip a pat and uh,
and then.
Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
They reached on it.
Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
And that's where the file's coming.
Speaker 3 (01:07:22):
So they'll get a one in one will Owen Zelmer.
Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
And he misses the front end, so Thomas gets the board,
no harm, no foul kick, nine point lead. Redmond goes
over to Tyler, gets it back Redman's wing, three short, long,
rebounded Tyler, he finds himself a easy deuce that makes
it a seven point game. Seventy seven to seventy, fifty
three seconds to go, clock running fifty two seconds to go.
(01:07:53):
Vinnie Fox drove three back court forty seven seconds to go,
time out, Edgewood all right, forty seven seconds to go.
It's seven point game, full time out. We'll see if
they can handle the press. Right after this on Fox
Sports nine to twenty forty seven seconds to play at
the Rick macheris wi shootout, gonna name a US Marine
(01:08:15):
Corps MVP Player of the game after this, to you
the proud the Marines. Edgerton trying to hold on and
get one of their guys there is Eli Hittelson finally
has it into the front court and then throws it
away dangerous cross court pass and Edgerton has not handled
this press well.
Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
In the final minute of the ballgame.
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
They've taken multiple timeouts, Mike, and they still have not
been able to really break it. So still a ballgame here.
With just under forty seconds to go, Spartan's trail it
by seven. Gotta get a quick three up. They get
it over to Tyler, who's gonna drive baseline back out
to Perry Doris, who's got it three in the corner,
goes fading away, makes it a four point game. Twenty
(01:08:59):
five seconds to play inside the Fox Jack Fox gets it,
weaves across two defenders, still into the back court. Got
to get it across, gets it to Zelmer, who's weaving
around defenders. With fifteen seconds to go, he's trapped and
then fouled. Has two Spartan bodies collapse on top of
them and seventy seven to seventy three with thirteen point
(01:09:20):
eight to go, Olin Zelmer gonna go back to the.
Speaker 5 (01:09:23):
File line where he missed the front end of his
last one and one.
Speaker 4 (01:09:28):
You know this pressure I they've It's caused a lot
of trouble for Edgerton and and I think if coach
Walerchchimp had a chance to maybe put it on three
four minutes earlier, he would have done it, no doubt
outide of trouble it was gonna cause him.
Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
Zelmer knocks down the first, makes it a five point game.
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
There's big one here.
Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
As he rolls off the second loose ball poked across
the baseline and was last touched by Cole Langer of
the Crimson Tide.
Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
So here Martin ball coach walterce TIMPs got over a
five hundred, and I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:10:00):
Telling him what he should. I was gonna say.
Speaker 5 (01:10:02):
I'm gonna leave that part out when we talk after
the game.
Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
Yeah, I should.
Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
Redmond running in with ten, dribble, handoff over to Doris
with eight, gotta go with seven contested three a lot
of contact, no good with three AJ Thomas and Bryce
Apell fight for the loose ball. It's gonna be a
jump with three point one to go, and that's gonna
just about do it. Perry Doris had to fight through
the contact to get that three off and Edgerton will
(01:10:30):
inbound it to Zelmer, no foul, and that'll do it.
A hard fought victory for the Crimson Tide of Edgerton
as they come back and beat Greendale Martin.
Speaker 5 (01:10:39):
Luther seventy eight to seventy three.
Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
The final back after this with our Player of the
Game with the US Marine Corps at the high school.
Speaker 5 (01:10:46):
Basketball Game of the Week. What's that by your local
Pick and Safe stores?
Speaker 2 (01:11:03):
Welcome back to the Ring Najeris Shootout on Fox Sports
nine twenty in your iHeartRadio APT we name a Player
of the game each and every game. The Few, the Proud,
the Marines. It's brought to you by the US Marine Corps,
and anybody is gonna be excited if they can get
our MVP Player of the Game, Olan Zelmer on their squad,
a senior guard from Edgerton. Now, Olan, I gotta apologize
(01:11:23):
here right out of the gates. I messed up y'all's
name about ten fifteen times calling you Edgewood. But it
might have worked because after that, I think you guys
were down thirteen and then you win it by thirteen.
What was the messaging in the middle there when the
game doesn't start the way you guys want early, we.
Speaker 11 (01:11:38):
Just knew we had it. We play hard, We knew
we could come back. We had to play better defense.
Speaker 3 (01:11:43):
That was a big thing.
Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
Yeah, and that's the biggest thing, is just play better defense.
That's something coach of saying.
Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
Or is that more you guy?
Speaker 10 (01:11:48):
Yeah, for sure, we need to communicate. We started off
so slow and no communication. Hey, how much has to
how much hass to do with the time of the game. Look,
you play a you right, you play different types. But
in high school to play at ten forty five that
that that doesn't happen very often.
Speaker 11 (01:12:02):
I'd like to use that as an excuse of why
we started slow both days.
Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
Did you did you stay in a hotel down here?
There you go? Did you guys get the bet on time?
Or you guys out a little late?
Speaker 10 (01:12:13):
We're here, we were here watching the games last night,
so we got home a little later.
Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
The Milwaukee Campy signs or something.
Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
Yeah, this, uh, this the w by shootout Wall the
wall basketball is incredible. You see the guys standing next
to you. One of the greatest high school players ever
to come out of the state of Wisconsin. By the way,
Jerry Smith played at Louisville. He's not an assistant coach
at Green Bay. He uh, he was looking at us
a couple of year shots going that kid could play
(01:12:40):
right there, So graduations on that. Did you know coming
in that this team had a chance to get to
be as good as it is.
Speaker 10 (01:12:47):
Yeah, we knew they're gonna be tough. We schedule him
for a reason. We played tough non conference schedule every year.
We want a tough game.
Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
I love that too, being being able to know that
you want to come in here and get the best competition. Mike,
we talked about it, but that's exactly what these teams
know they're signing up for here.
Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
Yeah, one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (01:13:04):
And as our US Marine player the game, Look, you
got to believe that that he's a senior leader on
this team, and you could tell how he took over
when they needed a big basket, he took it over
and again that that's exactly what a US Marie would do.
Speaker 7 (01:13:21):
No of course, especially guys, I mean coming in at
half with thirty six thirty six TI game. You know,
you got those tensions that you kind of have. It's
an uncertainty. It was back and forth battles, h you know,
and it comes down to also the preparation practice, the
stamina that's built up as a team, as a core
group to pull through and then execute when you need to.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
So that was awesome to see that pull through. Yeah,
one hundred percent. Do you know what's going on with
you next year yet?
Speaker 11 (01:13:42):
No, I'm waiting till the end of the season, but
I'm working on it.
Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:13:45):
You know, you missed a couple of free throws that
Philly Schmidt was not happy with you about.
Speaker 11 (01:13:49):
Yeah, I'm not happy with myself.
Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
He would saying that you're you're a little shot out
that that was the only shot I saw a miss
on the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:13:57):
Man, he gets a big shot.
Speaker 2 (01:13:59):
When you guys was there at the end of the
first half and we talked about just coming back off
the start. How big was that for you guys momentum
wise to have a thirty six thirty six game and half.
Speaker 11 (01:14:08):
That was huge, And I mean the big shot Eli Kittleson.
Speaker 3 (01:14:10):
It was unreal.
Speaker 10 (01:14:11):
That was a huge for us going into the half
because we had to crawl all the way back. So
then just know when we're starting to even because we
felt like, I mean, what are we what were down
in the first half?
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
What you say down thirteen?
Speaker 11 (01:14:19):
And we were down thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:14:20):
We crawled back.
Speaker 11 (01:14:21):
We felt like we literally felt like we could win
by thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 10 (01:14:24):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
They go out and do it.
Speaker 4 (01:14:25):
Yeah, you should be happy they didn't put that little
twelve press in a little earlier struggle. Looking with that,
they're quick, they are look at you smiling. He should
have taken a time out three minutes before taking that.
But I'm not on the staff anymore so, but that
you didn't have a dog in the fight. Hey, in
this Rock Valley, in the Rock Division, who's the team
that that you guys? As a senior, there's got to
(01:14:48):
be a team that you don't like a whole lot?
Speaker 3 (01:14:49):
Who is that good with everybody?
Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
Boy?
Speaker 11 (01:14:53):
Turners are are big one. They beat us a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
They big lot.
Speaker 11 (01:14:57):
We uh last year, we beat him earlier, We beat
him in our first I'm talking.
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
About that boy. Good for you.
Speaker 4 (01:15:02):
Our US Marine Player of the game. Congratulations, Happy New York.
Good luck to the rest of the way. Hopefully we'll
see up at the Cold Center.
Speaker 11 (01:15:10):
That's the goal for sure, that's what we're working for.
Speaker 3 (01:15:12):
Man. I'll tell you what.
Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
Any who's ever asking you to come play for them
the next level, they're gonna get a kid.
Speaker 3 (01:15:17):
They'll get you in the.
Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
Weight room a little bit and fill you out of versity.
There's a few of us that can give give you
some of the way we have if.
Speaker 12 (01:15:24):
You want it.
Speaker 3 (01:15:25):
But I'll tell you what. You're gonna get a kid
that can can straight up play good student.
Speaker 4 (01:15:30):
Yep, yeah, who do you give you the a Let's
yell at those guys now, I'm just kidding. Hey, safe
travelers on the way back. Good luck to the rest
of the way. He did great. US Marine Player of
the Game. Nice job today.
Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
Thanks Allen ollen.
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
Zelmer joining us here at the table our US Marine
Corps Player of the Game. We're back after this from
Rick Majeris w Shootout on Fox Sports on twenty Welcome
back as we close up our coverage of the Rickmageris
WY Shootout in reaction to Olin Zelmer, our player of
(01:16:06):
the game.
Speaker 5 (01:16:07):
Here from the Edgerton Crimson Tide. I got a couple
of calls to make here.
Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
I can tell you that much here after we are done, uh,
because I was contacted and told that, uh. And we
need to make a couple more phone calls. We need
to step up, we need to step up our efforts here.
Luck for the for the Pioneers because Owen zelmern he's
been wearing blue and orange. I mean, like that, that's
just what it is, Mike, he can you maybe didn't
stay as uh as locked in on just the one
(01:16:34):
on the two teams as possible. You know, maybe there
was a little favoritism going on the one side. I'll
always be favorites to the Carroll Pioneers. Owen Zelmer needs
to be wearing blue and orange.
Speaker 3 (01:16:42):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
That man needs to be wearing a Carroll Pioneers uniform.
And next to you said that.
Speaker 4 (01:16:47):
We went to a break and he said, look, I've
contacted them, I have interest in going there.
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
So and he's a kid that come on, he can
play at that level. I'm telling you he's good. Listen.
Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
I mean, I don't I don't know if ani is
a deal that we can get to walk a shaw,
But I mean, iheart's always looking for certain individuals, right,
I mean, there's there, you can always spots we can
help out.
Speaker 3 (01:17:08):
I got internship with the mcgiverneys.
Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
I mean, I listen, I can't pat McAfee and offer
these kids a great operation. So you can't hope we
can do a little something something, Yeah you could. That
was a great game and a fantastic one. And as
we continue to see the games that are coming up
here today, a bunch of really really good games that
are going to start out here in a moment. When
Dominican takes the floor, Coach Showalter joining and talking to
(01:17:33):
Mike McGivern right now and enjoying a quick conversation as
they get ready for their game that starts up here
in a matter of moments when they take on Mineral
Point Today, it'll be nickel A against West Dallas Central,
Brookfield Central against Sheboygan North at three point fifteen four
forty five, Xavier against Thomas Moore, reigning defending state champions.
Kacana will take on Homestead at six point fifteen seven
(01:17:56):
forty five, Tonight to Peer against Tosa West, and Milwaukee
Marque will round out the final game tonight against Milwaukee
juno Mike. We'll talk in a couple of minutes about
Rick mcjeris before we get out of here. But you
see so much basketball for this whole three day stretch.
Do you see it later on to Saturday where you
(01:18:18):
can see some tired legs from some of these kids
because they just played two games early mornings. When you're
talking about Edgerton, that it can be tough, not only
just time to day, but just some tired legs right
back to back game.
Speaker 4 (01:18:27):
You know when we talked before he went out of
the air to Mark Miller about Milwaukee Camia Science and
to Peer both played the day before and played really
intense games, and he said, look, you could tell the
last five minutes guys were holding down into their shorts
their second win a little bit, but man went to
overtime in a great game.
Speaker 3 (01:18:47):
But yeah, those back to back games.
Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
What's nice about as you get later in the year,
if you're thinking you're gonna go late into the playoffs,
you're gonna have to do it back to back, so
you get those done now. I know that case from
wats Oregon, the head basketball coach Marquette last year when
we had that game against arrowhead. I said, Case, you've
got a number of back to backs, and he said, yeah,
I'm doing this on purpose because I feel like we
(01:19:12):
have a chance to go deep into the playoffs and
I want our kids getting, you know, to understand how
to take care of their body well.
Speaker 2 (01:19:19):
Because Mike, it is it's an education in the entire
season is a part of it. And you know, we
joke about it with the UH with the kids in
the football side all the time. You know, there's only
one night, two nights that you got to prepare, like
you're playing the next day, the night before, the night before,
and the night before the game. When you're doing that
throughout the entire week, and then you add in staying
(01:19:41):
in a hotel, we're hanging out with our friends, we're
hanging out watching the games here. I doubt right when
they get back to the hotel, everyone's.
Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
Going right to bad, you know.
Speaker 5 (01:19:49):
So like that part of it is learning what you
can and can't do, and that's part.
Speaker 6 (01:19:54):
Of this game.
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
Bill.
Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
You see my son Matthews here right, and he's got
to send Liam with him.
Speaker 3 (01:19:58):
I shy.
Speaker 4 (01:19:59):
I see guys that he played AAU that I coached AAU,
and we didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:20:04):
Lose a game in third, fourth or fifth grade.
Speaker 4 (01:20:06):
We until we went to Disney World for the Nationals,
but in the state of Wisconsin. And you know, we
won tournaments in Minneapolis, in Rockford, Illinois, Chicago, four win Indiana,
all over the place. None of those guys ever talk
about tournaments we won. They talk about hotel stays, drown
Matthew and the pool. And I got real mad at him.
(01:20:27):
This led this three days ago. They're two days ago.
A kid can met me here and said, hey, do
you remember you were real mad because you didn't think
the pieces got delivered. We stole them from the front
of your hotel room. They were in fifth grade. That's
the stuff they talk about.
Speaker 12 (01:20:42):
And so for these teams to come down, stay in
a hotel, do the team bonding thing that these coaches know,
they're not going to get the best team right, they're
not going to play their best because they're having fun
playing video games till two in the morning. My favorite
was I would always put tape you can't leave your
room at eleven o'clock, and I'd put scotch tape on
the door, and eleven thirty I'd walked through and.
Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
See if it was broken, right, and I'd say who left? Nobody?
I go, I have cameras? Who left? And they'd go,
well he did, he just went to get a soda. Okay.
Then they were like, did you really have cameras? Have
been like no, I had Scotch tape, you idiots, hen Someway.
I had to have someplace to find out. I had
to have a way to find out.
Speaker 4 (01:21:23):
But those are the stories these kids talk about. And
for them to come from Edgerton stay in a hotel.
They were here at the Maas game last night. Then
they went and got pizza as they hung out, didn't
get a ton of sleep, and played really well the
second half.
Speaker 3 (01:21:37):
But win or lose that kind of team Bondie goes
a long way as long as it goes well. And
you mentioned it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
I mean that's the stuff that this is about, right,
Like as much as it's about wins and losses, it's
about trying to win a Stay title, it's about you know,
getting meat. It's about having fun one hundred percent. I
don't I know some people don't like that word, right,
God forbid. Fun does need to be a part of it.
It done, and you have to let the kids be
kids at some point, and that's a big, big facet
(01:22:05):
of it.
Speaker 5 (01:22:05):
It's why I love the event and love being able
to be a part of it.
Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
We're gonna talk on the other side here about Rick
mcjeris one final time before we get out of here
at the Rick macjeris WI Shootout before the Dominican Knights
take on Mineral Point. Here as we wrap up our
coverage from the Rick Majeris WI Shootout.
Speaker 3 (01:22:24):
Right after this on Fox Sports nine twenty and your
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (01:22:34):
Welcome back one final time to Concordia University of Wisconsin
in mechwan so Wy Shootout, the Rick Majeris WY Shootout
here Waldwall Basketball for three straight days, Day three. Here
we round out our coverage MIC and game back underway.
Here in front of us is Dominican against Mineral Point.
Really really good ballgame. I ran through the list of
(01:22:56):
games here coming up the rest of the day. A
lot of opportunities for people to come on out and enjoy,
but one other great opportunity for us to discuss a
name that we always love. And as you said, whenever
you get to still say the name Rick mcgeris, it's
always impressed and it's always great to be able to
think of how.
Speaker 5 (01:23:14):
Much he would love what this event has continued to
grow into.
Speaker 4 (01:23:17):
You know, look, you die once, right, and then you
die again when nobody talks about you anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:23:24):
I believe that.
Speaker 4 (01:23:25):
And every chance I get to talk about Rick mcgerriss
from the Majeria's Family Foundation for the job that they
do here at the WY Shootout, I take advantage of it.
Speaker 3 (01:23:35):
Lourie Hope and Jody mcjeris who keep working.
Speaker 4 (01:23:38):
This event, and they're here all day, you know, for
three days given out scholarships. They've given out over four
hundred thousand dollars of scholarships to student athletes. Rick would
be so proud now. This is exactly what he would
want his foundation to be a part of. And I
thank them for that, and I thank Mark Miller for
letting us be involved in Yeah, it really is.
Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
It's one of those moments, Mike, where you think of
all the lives impacted by this event. And we were
talking to coach Cassidy earlier here from Concordia where he said,
how do you get these players to play in or
to work this tournament. He's like a lot of them
played in the Turkey, right, they understand how how cool
it is, how you know, different generations of players.
Speaker 5 (01:24:20):
And you're seeing a guy whose older brother played for.
Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
The Badgers, now he's playing and Aaron Wllmack going to Syracuse.
He's here, Like you can see incredible, incredible, high end
talent play as Aaron Wellmack, the Syracuse commit, knocks down
a three, Like you're gonna see some of the best
players in the state play.
Speaker 5 (01:24:38):
And you get to see that. You know, it's not
that far away where you could be over here on
the floor, like.
Speaker 2 (01:24:44):
You're talking about your grandson, and you got your grandson here,
I think, and see what.
Speaker 3 (01:24:48):
It takes to be able to play like that.
Speaker 4 (01:24:49):
I mean, look at the five year old over there
eating popcorn. And Matthews said, look, I don't know how
long Liam is gonna last. Maybe it's a half of
a game. And they're still here and you still chopping
on popcorn watching the game, and you know, put the
three fingers up when somebody hits a three. So you
gotta love that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:07):
That's what you know. It's great. The grandson with us logan,
I don't know if he's ever hit it. Have you
hit a three?
Speaker 4 (01:25:13):
Ever, I just kid, so, you know what, and he
does this a little lower. I've seen him do this
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:25:21):
That's the new thing. Mike. You gotta you put the
three now by the waist is what it looks like more?
Oh right across the chest.
Speaker 1 (01:25:27):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:28):
I like that deal. That's awesome, Mike. What do you
got coming up?
Speaker 5 (01:25:30):
I know this week be invaded the Coaches Show. What
do we got coming up? Plans going into the new year?
Speaker 3 (01:25:37):
Yep? Next Saturday. I'm excited.
Speaker 4 (01:25:38):
Derek wimmer Uh, a kid that coached at Dominican, former
basketball coach at Cedar Grove, Belgium, was was here with
me on that Thursday.
Speaker 3 (01:25:48):
He's gonna come in studio.
Speaker 4 (01:25:50):
We're gonna we're gonna do kind of a remember the
Dominican days of coach Waller Shime and Derek. We're gonna
talk to him a little bit about why he's not
coaching anymore and and some good things and some some
things that that maybe he didn't like as much as
he thought he would use coach and we'll get into
that and looking forward to that. And then we've got
a couple of coaches from on the stateble talk about
(01:26:11):
that is awesome. In fact, Jerry Smith, I think we'll
probably reach out and have him come on.
Speaker 2 (01:26:16):
That's gonna be a good one. Yeah, that's gonna be
one where there's gonna be a lot of people. I
joked about it when he was sitting over here that
uh my man, arm and sorry and is gonna be
tuned into that one hate listening the entire time.
Speaker 5 (01:26:28):
I mean, there is not a week that the Jerry
Smith shot against Marquette does not come on in one
of our.
Speaker 3 (01:26:34):
Pre show conversation.
Speaker 4 (01:26:35):
Hey, you understand, I will probably ask him first out
of the jump, knowing that that Army is gonna be listening.
In fact, sometimes arms in the building and maybe Jerry's
in town and he'll come in studient and I'll introduce get.
Speaker 2 (01:26:46):
A picture of Army and Jerry well, and please do
because that'll be really fun because then arm and all
that fake tough stuff that he wants to talk, kind
of like he did the butcher back in the day.
Speaker 3 (01:26:57):
Oh my god, you're amazing, We're awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:26:59):
He's not gonna anything bad. Jerry's fifth. Do you get
his handshake? You are that My hand is still hurting
from that. Army's got no shot with him. Armon's got
no shot against Logan's handshake. He does not man appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:12):
As always, Mike, this is such a great opportunity, it's
a great time and looking forward to We act like
this is the end of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:27:19):
It's just getting started, just getting started.
Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
We got we probably have fourteen thirteen games left between
you and Hunter and and me and Logan and Beckett
and Keegan. The Bonder boys are our stat guys, so
we got to include them. And certainly David back at
back at the studio. He's done a marvelous job.
Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
Cannot thank Dave Gasper enough back at headquarters being able
to keep us on and in and out of breaks
