Speaker 2 (00:25):
Man.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
I go over to that office and people are like, Hey,
what do you think of the new Berland West team?
What do you think of this team? What do you
think of this team? I'm sick of Meskigo winning all
the time. Nobody's ever said that. I just said that
because Ryan McMillan, the athletic director at Muskego, is my
co host good Win last night against Oconomwalk.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yes, sir, did what we need to do to set
up a.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Great week nine So at mcgwanago, Yes, sir, I thought
so hard. My twenty four right, we flexed this game,
and I thought we flexed it specifically for a game
like Lake Country Lutheran and Martin Luther Right, gonna be
a great game game by Musquigo at mcgwanago, and they said, listen,
(01:09):
we've had both those teams on. We've had Lake Country
Lutheran on. Let's do the Homestead West Bend West game,
which is for that conference, right, which, okay, great? Do
you know how bad I'd prefer to be at the
Lake Country Lutheran Martin Luther game or the Muskego at
McGonagall game. But man, once I start digging into Homestead's
(01:29):
team and West Bend West team because I haven't looked
a lot West ben West having a good year.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yeah, they're not bad.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
They're they're on the upswing, and that community is proud
of them and they're gonna give Homestead everything they got,
so you might see a really good one.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
At ten o'clock, we're going to introduce you. Introduce you
to the first of this year. It's the Current Electric
Superhero of the week. Sammy Lee is coming in. Her
brothers are coming with her. All played football at Martin Luther.
Sorry about that coach who's sitting next to us, and
their mom, Cindy's coming in and Sammy's brother works at
(02:03):
Current Electric, which is perfect. It's a great fit. We'll
introduce you to her at ten o'clock, our first guest
and they're in studio and look, I've been a fan
of his for a long time. Greg Brascal had football
coach at Lake Country Luther and a couple of his
players that we'll get to next segment. Coach, how you
doing doing great man?
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Good year.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
I got to tell people this before the year starts,
where I call you and say, we're going to be
doing one of your games. How are you guys going
to be this year? And you go, dude, you asked no,
you actually he is on the golf course. You go,
you asked me that all the time. I'll tell you
what I tell you every year. We had a chance
to compete for the conference and we got a chance
to go deep in the playoffs. What else do you
(02:44):
want to know? And I go, well, you lost a
lot of seniors. He goes, we have a chance to
compete for the conference and we got a really good
chance to go deep in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
What else?
Speaker 1 (02:53):
And I go, why don't you hit the golf ball better?
And he's like, watch my son, man the one hole
we're ahead of you, and your son hit one I
think three twenty and put it to the side of
the green, and they came and apologized. I said, don't
you dare apologize? That was unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
He said.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Every once in a while I catch one. I hit
it pretty good. He goes, sometimes they go to the woods,
not that one. Hey, coach, you guys got a nice
win last night. University school have been struggled a little bit,
but you beat beat him up fifty to six. Brown
Deer a week ago, thirty seven nothing Chorlyne Luther in
the week prior, fifteen to eight on a nice run
(03:32):
right now.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
Yeah, part of it is like we're just trying to
have fun again. It got pretty competitive in the middle
of our season and we forgot that we were playing
high school football. So yeah, we're out there trying to
have fun again and it's been working.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
So I got it. I'm gonna start the show with this.
I have two grandsons that go to Lake Country Lutheran
and I've always I've always been impressed and kind of questioned.
You've been coaching there a long time, a ton of success,
and I know for a fact that you've gotten calls
over the years from other schools going, hey, do you
(04:07):
have any interest in maybe talking to us about our opening,
and ninety percent of the coaches, and I coached basketball
for a long time, are always kind of happy where
they're at. But looking, Okay, I'm at a smaller school.
Can I do this in a bigger school? Can I
do this in a better conference? Can I do this
in the classicate that kind of stuff. And I've always
(04:28):
in my back of my head, said boy brass Is
he he's been at this school a long time. He
has all the success. I'm wondering if he's ever thought
maybe I should go somewhere else. And then I have
two grandsons at the school, and now I get it.
These kids are man. They love being part of the
Lake Country Lutheran family. One is a sophomore running cross country.
(04:51):
One is a freshman that plays football. And I've asked
them a lot, do you have any interest in going
on anywhere else? They're like, absolutely not, no, this I
love it here and here's why, and they give me
these examples. And then I go into the school to
watch my grandsons compete in different sports and I get
a chance to meet teachers and coaches and parents and
(05:12):
bras I get it. Now I understand it, and and
and I'll ask you, have you ever been tempted to
maybe just go, Hey, let me see if I could
do it over here.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Yeah, I mean it's hard. If I consider myself to
just be a football coach, without question, I would I
would have taken any of those opportunities. But I love
teaching calculus. I love the ministry, so being at a
place like Lake Hunter Lutheran, where I can, you know,
share guy with kids and teach math. If I just
want to be a football coach, for sure, I would
have taken any of those options.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Yeah. But this this program that you have built, and
Ryan and I have these conversations. Look, he built a
really good program at at oconom Walk, he was part
of a program at WannaKey, and now he's the athletic
director at Mesquigo, and you see, you know, all this
success they have. If a young coach says to you, hey,
(06:04):
what is the key to building a program the way
you've built it at Lake Country Lutheran, what would you
tell them?
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Well?
Speaker 5 (06:09):
I wouldn't tell them how much work it takes.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
No, don't tell them how much littlely you're getting exactly.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
I mean that can be intimidating, but honestly, it's I
think the more love that you put into it, the
more that you can rally the family and the school
to support what you're trying to accomplish. You know, it's
the old it takes a village mentality, but I mean
it's the work, honestly.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Rat You know what's interesting to me is grants some
part of the football program, and you guys don't talk
a lot about winning. You talk about getting better, playing
for each other, you know, figuring out some of the
things that the lessons that we learned that we can
teach as coaches and these players learn being part of
(06:55):
a football program. But you guys don't talk about Look,
we want to win because that's going to then we're
going to get deeper into the playoffs and get more
people out of there. You guys don't talk a lot
about that.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
No, you can't, because you can't practice results. You can
only practice skills. You can only practice preparation. Winning is
the result of all of that. So if you just
talk about winning all the time, like, what are you
doing to make that happen? Like, you can't just be words,
it has to be actions. And like we feel the
same way with our faith. It can't just be words.
It has to be actions. You can't just talk about results.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
So, hey, Ryan, when look you if you know Coach
Crousey's built a great program over there, You've been a
part of the Wanta Key thing. And I always go
back to that because the respect I have for Coach
Rece and and how we understood all of the things
that in the community like Wanta Key. If you have
if you have good guys, right, they're they're at the
(07:53):
grocery store and these kids are looking at them like
they're packer players.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Right.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
But all of the things that you've done in you
know about programs. When you hear Coach Brass talk about that,
and they don't, they don't. They don't talk about we
have to get more wins to get in the play.
We just go about doing what we do. You're shaking
your head like, Yeah, that's exactly the right way to
do this.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
It's all about relationships and having passion and conviction for
what you believe in and being the people you want
to be here you believe you should be right, and
working every day to be that servant leader and continuing
to grow those relationships and grow young men and follow
people like coach Brass and keep this thing moving forward
and make a better society.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Years ago. And I've told this story one hundred times, Bras,
and you're like, man, if we don't do that anymore,
I know it was really good. It was my wife's idea.
But I went out there for the first time and
met him, and we're doing a team of the week
at that point. Lake Country Lutheran was our team of
the week and we were talking as these players are
kind of getting stretched out, and all of a sudden,
he said, hold on a second. He goes, family up,
(08:57):
Family up, and they got in circles of eight all
over the field, and I go, what's this And he goes,
So a senior is the head of that family, and
there's freshmen and sophomores and juniors and maybe a senior
too in that family. And when these guys have an issue,
a girl broke up with them, they missed a homework assignment,
(09:17):
they failed to test, and they're struggling with their grades,
they go to the head of the family. And what
we're teaching the head of the family and these kids
is what it is to be a father and a husband.
So they're taking that family and they're the point. And
then if they can't figure out, if they come to
me or to one of the assistant coaches. But right
now they're part of that family, and they pray together.
(09:40):
They all of it right. And I was so impressed
with that I went on the air. I got a
call that week from a basketball coach at a public
school and said, Hey, I heard what Brads Gell is
doing out at Lake Country Lutheran. I can't do the
faith side of it, but what I'm doing as seniors
are doing a fantasy basketball draft with fresh in sophomores
(10:01):
and they're the head of that family or fantasy team.
And these kids are now going to the freshman games
and going you gotta get a rebound for me, You
gotta get a rebound. And he said, would you thank
coach Braskell and his wife for coming up with his idea,
because I'm taking it and I'm gonna put it the
way I can do it. I can't do it where
we're gonna make you a better husband, father, and be
(10:22):
a better you know, person in your faith, but I
can do it and have them be part of that family.
And I want to thank him for that and I
just was so impressed with that Ryan that that's what
his mindset and his wife's mindset was. Look, we're not
just making this kid be a good high school football player.
We're looking at the next steps in their life, right,
(10:42):
And some.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
Of those examples you just gave there just pouring energy
into other people, which is huge in terms of building culture,
building a school or a team, or a society or
a household. You know, you pour into each other. You
and your wife out in Pewaukee. You know you're gonna
buy her that boat this week, and we are not.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
And she listens, so quit saying that story.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
But no, it's kudos to coach and his wife are
coming up with that. And the family up. It's you know,
people can resonate to it.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
And and some.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Kids the other piece of that puzzle is some kids
walk into your program and they don't have a family, right,
and they hear family up And now I got something.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Okay, I can hang on to that. And I love
these people, and we're gonna keep growing it.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
You know.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
I asked the freshman at Lake Country Lutheran they were
making the decision Brookfield Least or Lake Country Lutheran. Brookfield
East Lake Country Lutheran, and the idea was he's got
a brother who's in eighth grade, so he's kind of
a guinea pick. And I said, listen, if this doesn't
work out for you, you can transfer at the end
of the freshman year and not losing any eligibility. You
(11:49):
can go to brookfiel least your younger brother will follow you.
About three weeks, four weeks into his tenure at Lake
Country Lutheran, his name's Keegan Bonner, I picked him up
and I said, look, you've got the almost a whole
year yet a freshman, but how are you feeling about this?
He goes, I'm not going anywhere. And I go really,
he goes, I'm not going anywhere. Papa. I said, if
(12:11):
you had a chance to do eighth grade all over
and he goes, no, No, I really really like And
he's a quiet kid. The freshman isn't this quiet. He's
a little bit talk you know. He talks to everybody,
and he's always talking to this kid or that kid.
The older one is a little bit more reserved and quiet,
and he's like, I'm not going I'm going four years
(12:33):
at Lake Country Lutheran.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Papa.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
The people treat me really well here and I've made
so many new friends. And Greg, I thank you for
this because as a grandfather you get nervous about it
and you're hoping that they make the right decision for
your grandkids. And they did make the right decision and
they are true lightning. And now his grandparents were part
of the family. Right, we're going out. I haven't gotten
(12:57):
I've saw one varsity game and I'm going to take
playing for that one. It's the only wash on the
on They.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
About that it was my fault.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
But I go to the JV games and now I'm like,
people are like, Hey McGivern, I doing Hey are you
doing it? I got to get some lightning gear. I
got to figure out where I can get that. But
it's it's amazing the amount of people that come to
JV games. I see you on the sidelines every JV game,
which is pretty impressive to me. So it was the
it was the perfect decision for these kids in this family.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
Yeah, and it's it's more than just our football program.
It's the whole school. And like, I don't want to
build like some utopian society that's going on there, but
it is special. I had the ability to chap her
own homecoming for the first time in about twelve years,
because I didn't want to do it while my kids
were there. And it was just crazy to see that
there were no clicks at this thing, Like the whole
school was one school body, like dancing together, and they
(13:50):
didn't like break off into factions of here's the football players,
here's the soccer players. Like if you walked in there,
you would have no idea who belonged to what social groups.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
It's just so cool, you know, And you said, look,
it's not utopia. And I get that there are issues
in every right. There are issues in city schools, in
suburban schools, in ruralschool there are there are issues everywhere.
And I know that and I get that, but I
can tell you this that the way there, they are
taking care of in the school and that they feel
(14:20):
loved and and they're playing for the guy next to
them or they're studying with people. Both grandsons went to
homecoming and they were like, Papa, we had so much fun.
Let me tell you about this. And then the one
kid said, I stayed at somebody's house that night and
they had like an indoor basketball court and so we
(14:41):
were playing basketball and we were doing this and we
stayed up. They told this way to be the you know,
go to bed by midnight or two o'clock or whatever.
And we were trying to be quiet, so we couldn't
bounce the ball, but we could still shoot. But I
was shooting near a ball, so people were standing under
the basket going, you got to make a shot here, Pelle.
So it's just fun stuff where these kids are growing
up in an environment. And look, they both go to
(15:04):
Spring Creek Church and they said, probably there's a bunch
of kids from Lake Country Lutheran that I go to
church with, and so they're getting that part and they're
being fed on the spiritual side as well, Greg, and
I love that.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Yeah, it is super cool to go to church on
Sunday and have a bunch of my players there. It's
a great opportunity to be able to worship with my team.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Yeah, yeah, I love that. Hey, did you know coming
in that this team had a chance to be Look
on the golf course, you hadn't even had your first practice,
and you kind of laughed to say, I give you
the same answer every year, But did you truly that
know that this team had a chance to be special.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
Yeah, I mean I knew we had the pieces that
you need. You need a quarterback, I knew we had
that you need a pass rusher. I knew we had
that you need a middle linebacker. I knew we had
that you need running backs. I knew we had at
least two of those, so you know, and and bringing
back our best receiver. Like when you look on paper,
we did look like we were going to be a
team that could be seven and one at this point.
(16:04):
So definitely, But like with our program, like you graduate
the kids, but you replace them with the next group,
we're gonna be consistently successful. Like I love the kids
and the names that graduate, but we're gonna replace them
with the next group, not as individuals but by position.
And so yeah, I felt pretty good coming into the year.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
What's interesting to me and Ryan, I'm gonna, I'm gonna
and then we'll get to a break and we'll get
these players on. But the incoming freshman who's now a
Logan bonner, he was going to seven and seven and
he was going into the weight room and and and
lifting before before this all started, And I said, do
(16:45):
these these older guys, these juniors and seniors do they
talk to you. He goes, Papa, the best players, like,
you're gonna lift with me today. You're gonna lift with me.
And Adam Anderson is here and he's like, no, no,
you're you're get away from those guys. You're gonna you're
gonna get serious. You're gonna lift with me and we're
gonna get after it. And he goes, these guys are
treating me like I'm already on the team. We haven't
(17:06):
had a first practice yet. And he goes, it's really
fun and they're they're pushing me hard and and that
shows to me what leadership is. Look, Adam Anderson's not
gonna benefit if my grandson gets gets to be a
good football player, because he's gonna be planning in college.
But he was still taking this kid under his wing
and going, hey man, you gotta get after it and
(17:27):
we're gonna go hard today. And you're gonna go hard
and and and you're gonna be with me, and you're
gonna be my partner. And I'm gonna I'm gonna tell
you how we do things. You're gonna I'm gonna show
you next time you come in the weight room. How
you do this?
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Yeah, the best part about that is your grandson's never
gonna forget that, and when it's his turn to be
that senior, he's gonna do the exact same thing. Those
incoming freshmen, they are gonna keep paying it forward and
they're gonna keep building that you belong to us.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
We are one.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Let's keep moving forward.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Hey, Greg, you know the funniest part about that is
in the offseason, we had last year's quarterback come in
and his dad. Right, they came in studio and we're
talking to guys that had had graduated and before they
went off to college. And we went to a break
and the quarterback's dad said, your grandson's going to play football? Yes,
(18:17):
what position? I told him? And he said, you have
to remember this name Adam Anderson. And I said, okay,
he goes, that's the kid that your grandson needs to
watch and he needs to be like this kid. And
the first time the kid goes to a weight room
lift and Adam Anderson, I go, who's the kid that
(18:38):
said that? He goes, I don't know the last name
is Anderson. He's I think their best player. And I go,
that's the kid I told you about that you were
supposed to watch and emulate. And I love the fact
that a parent from a kid who has now graduated
is giving me advice for my grandson. And who he should,
you know, just watching how he goes about doing his business.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
Yeah, I mean, game recognizes games. So Adam probably saw
something in your grandson that he was like, I need
to work with this kid because he might help us.
And he has helped us during the course of the
season already. So I mean that's how you keep a
program growing is the seniors, you know, working with the
freshmen and the sophomore so that they become seniors that
also work with freshman and sophomores.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Hey, and we'll get to these guys in a minute.
But so the quarterback last year was really good, had
a great year, and now new quarterback comes in and
you know what, he's playing awfully.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Well.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
I think we're going to talk to him on the
other side of the break. But any surprises and how
he stepped into that.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
Role, absolutely not. I've known Connor for a long time.
It was really a matter of giving him his time
to have the football and at a place like Lake Country,
then you don't really get to start from day one
because someone's already probably established in that position. So it
was it was a matter of like waiting his turn,
(19:59):
and now that he has his chance, he's taking a
bong going with it.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Well, you guys start out with finalac say Mary springs
the way you always do, which I don't know why
you do that, but you do it for to find
out where your team is at and and the nerves
that he probably had prior to that game, and he
owns the huddle, it's his huddle. I've got to believe
that that he had butterflies like crazy. But after the
(20:24):
first couple of snaps, I think it things slow down.
But to step in for a guy who had a
great year the way that quarterback last year had and
to have the numbers that this kid is putting up,
it's pretty impressive to me.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Yeah, I think it's pretty fortunate that you don't get
to see the inside of football players, because then every
other team would be like, let's go, we got the skater.
But when you see Connor on the outside, you're like,
oh no, this kid's ready to go. But yeah, on
the inside, I'm pretty sure he's nervous. But you know what,
sometimes that nervous energy is the energy that you need.
It's it's are you going to let it debilitate you?
Are you going to let it motivate you? So nerves
are good, Yeah, I agree with that.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Guys.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
We're going to get you a break. I'm gonna kick
you guys off the mic. I'll bring you back. In
that third segment. We've got two seniors from this late
Country Lutheran team. Man having a great year, got a
big game against Greendale, Martin Luther coming up at Martin Luther,
and they got a chance to win their conference, and
I can tell you that they're they're ready for Martin Luther.
(21:21):
I coached basketball a long time, but I'm more of
a lightning than a spartan. And man, there are some
people listening to this show. I'm gonna get a text
message going, Hold on a second. You're still wearing that
green and gold all over the place. We'll get to
a break. Connor and Adam are gonna join us. We're
gonna talk about a lot of the guys on this roster,
and we will name our pick and safe student athlete
(21:43):
of the week one of these two. Both they're both
really good student athletes, and you made me choose and
I appreciate that because you don't want any issues. But
you sent me all the information and on almost any
other week, your quarterback would be our Pick and Safe
Student Athlete of the Week. But the other alignment is
doing some stuff in the classroom that side of this world,
(22:03):
so we will introduce you to our Pick and Save
student ath the week on the other side of the break.
This is the Varsity Blitz High School Sports Show presented
by your local Pick and Save and Metro Market stores
only on Fox Sports nine twenty and your iHeartRadio app.
Welcome back to the Varsity Blitz High School Sports Show
presented by your local Pick and Save and Metro Market
stores on Fox Sports nine twenty and your iHeartRadio app.
(22:26):
We're talking Lake Country Lutheran football for the first hour
at ten o'clock. Will introduce you to this week's current
Electric Superhero of the Week, Sammy Lee from Greendale Martin
luther graduating high school in three years, Very active in
the school and has that servant leadership hard and looking
forward to seeing her and her brothers, a couple of
(22:46):
that I coached, and looking forward to having her in
studio a couple of seniors from this Lake Country Lutheran team.
They've got one loss and got a big game against
Greendale Martin luther on Friday with a chance to in
this conference and kind of what coach Braskell told me
before the year. So I'm on the golf course and
(23:06):
he said, we got a chance to win the conference,
go deep into the playoffs like every year, because that's
what we do at Lake Country Lutheran. And you know what,
I believe him. I believe him in studio starting quarterback
and defensive back. They said he's the one that's gonna talk,
So I'm gonna start with him. I'm gonna start with him.
Connor lovers right, Yep, there we go. Look at that. Finally,
I said, Loopers. The whole time I talked to your
(23:29):
brother years ago, Connor, congratulations on having a good year.
And I said, I thought you were a little nervous
before the first game, and you said, I wasn't nervous.
I've been on the field for two years, but not
not in the huddle, pal, And you said, I'm not
going to admit to any of that stuff. So I
appreciate that. Feel pretty good about where this team is at.
Speaker 6 (23:50):
Yeah, I've made some big strives over the past couple
of weeks and really looking to keep on pushing this
thing forward going into playoffs.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
Did you know, coming in like like Brads did, that
you guys had a chance to be pretty good.
Speaker 6 (24:01):
Yeah, I knew we had some question marks, and some
guys stepped up and A're making some big plays and
just turning a lot of skill positions and doing good.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Do you know that every other week you would be
our pick and safe student athlete the week you're a
big time student athlete. But the guy sitting between us,
he's off the charts with some of this stuff. So
sorry about that. You're gonna come in second place. Adam Anderson. Adam,
first of all, thank you so much for any of
the time that you helped my grandson in the weight
(24:32):
room and on the field. But I can tell you this, man,
I watched you play and your motor is incredible and
you love the game of football.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
Huh yeah, yeah, it's fun. I mean I started my
freshman year, so I've been having a lot of fun
with it.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
Things have slowed down a little bit right that freshman year,
and now you know what this kid is going through
my grandson. Everybody's bigger, stronger. Look, he's just turned fourteen, right,
and that like when you were on varsity. Is a
fresh after playing eighth grade, you had to think, man,
I'm too young, too small for this, And then all
of a sudden middle of the freshman year or beginning
(25:09):
a sophomore years, things start to slow down and you
realize you belong.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
I mean your grandson is a great kid. I mean
he's a big kid too.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Yeah, he's got good shiys.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Yeah. Yeah, he's a big fellow.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
He's got to get a little meaner on the field
and have a little more confidence. But again, he's fourteen. Anyway,
I want to talk about you. What's going on with you?
Next year, I.
Speaker 7 (25:30):
Will be playing in D line at Winona State. I'm
very excited to do that.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Yeah, you been on campus.
Speaker 7 (25:39):
Yeah, I've been on campus twice, one just for a
regular visit and then another one for a camp.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Did you know when you got there that, man, this
seems like a pretty good fit for me.
Speaker 7 (25:50):
Yeah, it's great. I mean the coaches are wonderful, the
environment's great. I met a couple of the players. They're
really nice.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
So yeah, good, good for youtiful campus from what I hear. Yeah, yeah,
kind do you know what's going on with you next year?
Speaker 8 (26:04):
Yet?
Speaker 6 (26:06):
I have a couple of schools that have offered me
like Minneso Duluth and Augustina University, and then I'm taking
some last visits over the next couple of weeks to
Saint Thomas and then took one Developerso earlier. So I'm
just gonna take these last visits and then make my
decision the season ends.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Have you been on campus Sat Thomas yet?
Speaker 8 (26:21):
I haven't.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
It's really something, you know what, They're not going to
let you off campus without signing.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
I can tell you.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
That that it seems to me that that school when
they recruit from our area, when kids go and get
on the campus and if they offer their like, okay,
I'm in. It's a beautiful campus in the obviously high level.
You're a multi sport athlete, Yes, sir, what else do
you play? I play basketball and golf. You hit a
golf ball pretty well sometimes I babble, Yeah, you know,
(26:52):
I'm so addicted. It's the worst sport ever. I'm very
mentally weak when it comes to golf. Look, it's a
basketball coach, and things are going sideways. I can take
a time out, make a change, get somebody off the bench,
go from mandazone right instead of running flax, run five
out any of that golf course. When things start going sideways,
I don't know how to stop it. The first time ever,
(27:15):
I broke a hundred four times this year Brown Deer, right,
Morning Star, and two other courses, and I like, almost
back to back days I broke a hundred, and then
the last two times I've played, I can't hit the
ball for me to you, and I don't understand what happened.
My wife still likes me. If we had a dog,
it didn't run away. Grandkids are still liking me. So
(27:37):
it's a horrible sport. I gotta be honest with you.
What position in basketball do you play?
Speaker 8 (27:42):
That's a small forward? Power forward?
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Can you shoot it a little bit, a little.
Speaker 8 (27:45):
Bit and get some boards, play some defense?
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Oh, I'd loved I would love to coach again. You
don't care about scoring all that month?
Speaker 6 (27:52):
No?
Speaker 1 (27:52):
I love that for sure, Adam. Are you a multi
sport athlete? I play rugby, So you don't mind hitting people? No?
Always been your deal. Yeah, it's fun. Hey, So as
our pick and Save student athlete the week, let me
tell you what happens with next week where you and
I coach brads. You tell me a night next week
that works for you. After practice, We'll meet at the
(28:13):
closest Pick and Safe store to the school or to
your house, and I've got a beautiful plaque for you.
We get a bunch of pictures, store manager or your family,
any teammates that want to come and support you. But
we really Pick and Save a metro market. They love
for us to highlight and promote and celebrate true student athletes.
Your motivation for being such a good student athlete. It's
(28:36):
not your right to play football at Lake Country, Luthor,
It's a privilege that you earn by taking care of
your business. Where do you think your motivation for being
such a good student athlete comes from?
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Well, I get a lot of my motivation from my parents.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
You know, Like a lot of times I'll struggle to, like,
you know, find that motivation. But I know that I
got to just take care of my business. You know,
high school was only four years. I gotta go off
to college and then eventually off to the workforce. So
I gotta keep on maintaining my grades for the for
the future.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
What's your mom and dad's name, Mike and Laura? Who
do you hear in the crowd more?
Speaker 2 (29:15):
Uh? Probably my grandparents? What are their names? Uh? We
got Bill and Share.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
But I hope Bill and Share can can show up
at that Pick and Save so that that I can
meet them.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
And you hear your grandparents.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
I have a feeling my grandkids might say, oh my
my Papa. It's just so loud all the time. So
I thank them so much for for for being part.
Do they come to every game?
Speaker 6 (29:40):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (29:41):
They come to them, most of them. I mean they
they live up in Osh Gosh.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Okay, then they won't be there. But you tell them,
I said, thank you. You tell them that you won
this Pick and Save student athlete. The weekend, I'm gonna
get your copy of the show so you can send
it out to them and unless they're listening on the
iHeartRadio app, which would be great. Hey, guys, this senior class,
and look I understand from because now I'm kind of
part of this family, a little bit on the edge,
(30:06):
but I hear I know that you guys are true
leaders on this team and Connor. I'm gonna start with you.
Was it your brothers that you learned how to be
such a good quality leader? Was it other players? Was
it coaches? How did you learn on what it takes
to be a senior leader at Lake Country Luther.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
I think there's been a lot of other people, or
a lot of different people that have affected me to
be a good leader in my life. Specifically, my brother
has been a great role model in my life. My
dad especially, No He's just taught me the qualities of
being a good man and just being directed with other
people and learning the core values. And also the coaching
staff is just amazing. They've taught me. They've just brought
(30:46):
me in as a family from a freshmen and then
just learning how to treat others and just building relationship
with each and every one of them and being able
to talk to them and just work through things with them.
Speaker 8 (30:55):
It's just been really changing.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
I didn't give you a hedge up to give you
a to have you think of an answer for this,
but I'm gonna do the same question I had for him.
Your your motivation for being such a good student? What
is your grade point average?
Speaker 8 (31:10):
I think three.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
Six and and you take some tough classes, and I
know this for a fact. They don't give away free
grades yet like Country Lutheran. But your motivation for being
such a good student athlete, where does that come from?
Speaker 6 (31:25):
I think that just comes from my parents pushing me
and then also just knowing that the Lord has blessed
me with the gifts and abilities and just using them
to the full potential that he has given me.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Amen to that.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Amen.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Hey, guys, I did give you a hedge up on this,
but your your your favorite memory of being part of
this program, and you guys have been both part of
the program for a long time. Both played youth football
for the Junior Lightning.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
No, my first year was freshmen.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
We come back, come a little closer. Oh so your
first year to play football?
Speaker 7 (31:53):
My first every year was my freshman year and really.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Yeah, you didn't want to play?
Speaker 2 (31:59):
No, my hear instant let me.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
But with Mike and Laura said no, Yeah, with my come.
Speaker 7 (32:05):
From my brother and I, we were able to convince
my parents to let me play my freshman year and
ever since then just stuck with it.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
Okay, so I'll share with you kind of your favorite
memory being part of the Lake Country Lutheran football. What
would it be and you got a lot of football
would be played.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
But so far, I think sophomore year player seen Saint
Catherine's on homecoming and just walking off, had my first
interception in that game, and then we had a walk
off you a little to win it. So's nothing beats
that homecoming.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Man, that's awesome. How about you u?
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Probably my sophomore year.
Speaker 7 (32:36):
It was my first varsity start and I got my
first sack on I either the first or second play
the game against Saint Mary Springs. Really yeah, and it
felt amazing. One of the seniors at the time, Adam Bolt,
ran up to me and he was like, heck, yeah,
let's go man.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Man.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
Sophomore year a big year for you guys. Obviously beaten
Saint Catherine. Who who picked them to be your homecoming?
Whoever did that, I should yell at brads for that
or whoever picked that. That's not exactly. They always one
kind of somebody that you think you're going to roll
a little bit. You guys certainly did that homecoming this
year by by beating Brown Deer thirty seven. Nothing. The
(33:20):
idea of playing varsity football at Lake Country Lutheran and Connor.
For you, you've been obviously you played youth football, right yep,
junior Lightning And it's gone quick, hasn't it. And when
you're a freshman you're seeing like homecoming or Parents' night,
senior night, You're thinking, man, I got so much time
before I have to worry about that. But boy, those
(33:42):
four years go quick, don't they?
Speaker 8 (33:44):
Yeah, they fly by. It feels like just yesterday.
Speaker 6 (33:46):
I was a freshman traveling with a team, just being
like these kids are huge, and now I'm the bigger
guys out there, and I don't feel like it sometimes.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
Yeah, one hundred percent gone quick for you as well?
Speaker 7 (33:57):
Oh yeah, I mean obviously when I was a freshman,
I was like, man, I just want this to be over.
You know, I'm tired of school. But now that I'm here,
I'm I'm like, Wow.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
You wanted to keep going.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
I would think the idea of going off to the
known state that was exciting, that new chapter. But you
have some work to do yet here at at Lake
Country Lutheran. You got some things that you obviously wanted
to accomplish. You want to win that last game, and
this team has a chance. Guys, before we moved back
over to coach Bras Galla and and and Ryan McMillan.
(34:28):
Can we talk about some of the other seniors on
this team that that that are making this team going?
And I'll start with you Adam offense defensive line. Are
there are other seniors that are really helping this team?
Speaker 9 (34:41):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (34:42):
I I'm great friends with the other tackle on the
O line. His name is Bobby Edwards. He's a great kid.
I mean he just always keeps like positive vibes. You know,
great guy.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
You need that, right, you need that positive How about
for you? For you Connor, give me a couple of
the seniors that that you know you've been through the
wars with.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
I think one that just sticks out to me the
most is Nate Graf. He's been also playing some sophomore
year and he's just he's been through a lot on
and off the field, and just playing with him, I
know he's gonna give his all. And then I'm also
in the secondary, just Gabe and Pierce May, Gabe Schneider.
Just playing with them, they're reliable. I know they're gonna
get the job done and I can trust them next to.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
Me, you know, I learned very valuable lesson from a
football coach years ago. Joe Cook, who used to be
my co host. He used to always talk about trust,
and he brought his his U his laptop and he said, look,
all this time I talk about trust, I can show
you firsthand what happened last night and how my safety
does not trust the cornerback. He goes, here's where my
(35:45):
safety was for almost the whole game until two minutes left.
You see where he's lined up. I go, yeah, he goes,
he's in the perfect spot. We're up by four. The
other team gets the ball with two minutes to go,
and they got eighty yards to get a touchdown. Now
watch where he lined up. He doesn't trace, he doesn't
trust the cornerback, and they beat us on a wheel
route right down where he should be, right down the
(36:06):
middle of the field because he moved three four steps
over because he didn't trust the corner and he thought
he had to help him. And the corner's just fine.
He had a great game, but because he didn't trust him.
So when you talked about trusting the other guys in
the defensive backfield, I understand that, and that means a lot.
That means a lot I think to those guys as well. Guys,
I'm going to ask you a favor, and I do
(36:28):
this to all the seniors that sit where you sit.
As a former coach, I've seen this stuff happen. Make
sure that you talk to these players on this team
about not messing this thing up. Go to parties after graduation, right,
do that kind of nonsense stuff. Don't let anybody mess
this thing up because they're they're going and doing something
(36:48):
they shouldn't be doing. And as leaders on this team,
I'm going to ask you to make sure that you
have that conversation with these guys. Connor, I got to
believe that you talk a little bit more than Adam does.
But Adam, you look at somebody, you go, don't mess
this up for me. They're gonna listen to you because
of the respect that they have for you guys and
for this program and for this team. And I would
(37:10):
ask you, as an old grandfather and former coach, to
please have that conversation with these guys. Yes, hey, do
you know what you want to go into when you
when you go off to college.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
I was thinking either nursing or radiography.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Okay, yeah, two two great options. And the cool part
is you can change your mind twice before you leave
the studio. That's nice about being young. When you're my age,
I'm done, I'm sad. I'm doing what I'm gonna do.
How about you, Connor, I'll just.
Speaker 6 (37:36):
Say business, okay, just to I think that's what I
want to go into. But a lot of schools are
getting business.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
So how's your brother doing?
Speaker 6 (37:43):
Really well, he's senior Wisconsin, learned playing basketball.
Speaker 8 (37:47):
He's really enjoying it. Memory yeah, him can memory this
last couple.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Of years him and Colin amac I had on the show,
a couple of other guys from that team, and really
good friends with the am family and just a great family.
They had a lot to do with having my grandsons
at Lake Country Lutheran because of the experience that they
had as a family at Lake Country Lutheran. I thank you,
guys for what he is. Certainly you for helping my
(38:16):
grandson and for you.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
You know, he has.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
Talked a lot about about being part of this team
and how he feels part of it, and I thank
you guys for that. We're going to get to a break.
The other side of the break. We will bring back
the head football coach at Lake Country Lutheran. He's Greg
Braskell and my co host he's the athletic director at Muskego,
Ryan McMillan. This is the Varsity Blitz High School Sports
Show presented by your local Pick and Save and Metro
(38:41):
Market stores, only on Fox Sports nine twenty and your
iHeartRadio app. Welcome back to the Varsity Blitz High School
Sports Show presented by your local Pick and Save and
Metro Market stores. Coming live from the Donovan and Jorgensen
Heating and Cooling Studios, talking Lake Country Lutheran football this
first hour and back the mic Greg Brascal that had
(39:01):
football coach and Ryan McMillan, the ad at Muskego. I
get it pretty good, guys right there, all of cow Yeah,
it felt like I was talking to like guys you
know my age, like to mature adults and understand what
they're doing, how they're doing it. And I love the
fact that you know, they talk about look this next
(39:24):
chapter and Connor's trying to make a decision and where
he's going to go, and Adam knows where he's going
to want to go and that's in the future, right
and they're excited about it. But they got some business
to take care of. And look, I'm sure you've had
the conversation that I just had with them about not
letting seniors mess things up, or juniors or sophomores or
(39:44):
freshmen for that matter. But I always feel the need
to do that because I think it's important sometimes that
they hear from somebody other than their head coach.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
Yeah, definitely. And when I talked to them after practice,
I'm like, hey, I'm sure your parents are going to
tell you this, but I would be remiss if I didn't,
as the head coach, as someone who is your leader,
tell you the exact same thing that, like, you shouldn't
be doing this stuff, you shouldn't be like I feel
like it's the right way for us to lead. So
hopefully they've heard it from multiple places and multiple times.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
I'm not going to name the team or the coach
or anything, but a couple of years ago, there's a
basketball team that right and beginning the playoffs, had two
starters or three starters in their sixth man not be
able to play because they were doing ding dong ditch.
They weren't drinking, they weren't ding dong ditch, but they
all had gear on not only from the school but
(40:35):
from the sport, right, not like people all have cameras
on their doorbell mouth. So the cops came and said
you know these he goes, oh yeah, no, all of them,
and so they got suspended for two games. And so
just foolishness stuff like that. We just can't. Let's not
mess this thing up. And we look as coaches, we've
(40:55):
all have gone through that. As a Netfleck director, you've
gone through that, and I just feel the need to
tell seniors, don't mess this thing up.
Speaker 5 (41:04):
That's hired. I mean as a teenager, I went through it.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
I know.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Camera back then on your phone, Oh I would have
it just would have been a nightmare for McMillan over
and wanta Key with all the nonsense he was probably causing, Hey, Ryan,
can you explain the new format with the with the
playoffs and how they're going to select and things like that.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
So really there isn't a lot of secrets about who's
getting selected this year. The coaches and everybody's been getting
a weekly email. I think it comes out on Tuesdays,
if I'm not mistake, it might be Mondays. But ever
since week five we've been getting our rankings where we
stand in the thirty two team or the fifty six
(41:47):
team pool of teams that are by enrollment division one, two, three, four, five, six,
all the way down. And as it's been going, you've
been accruing points. So every time you win a game,
you get points. Those are your Tier one points, and
every time the people that you've beaten win games, you
get more points, and that's your Tier two points. So
(42:08):
it's all about winning games, right, And so as the
season's been progressing, everyone's been accumulating those Tier one points
are those Tier two points, and the combination is what
kind of gets you your set ranking each week. So
two weeks ago, for example, Muskigo was number one.
Speaker 3 (42:26):
In Division one.
Speaker 4 (42:27):
They went out one, but somebody else went out and
won a more difficult game and acquired more to Tier
two points, and all of a sudden, Moskigo went from
one to five, and other people jumped from four to one.
And it's just kind of been moving like this for
the last few weeks. And by the end of this
next week, everyone's gonna you're gonna get a pretty clear
(42:49):
number and you're gonna know where you're sitting. And then
you're gonna know the teams that are in, and the
selection show is really just gonna tell you where in
the state will you be going, but you'll know where
you're kind of at coach knows he's going to be
a one or two For the most part, it's just
where is that one and two going to be playing?
Speaker 2 (43:06):
Greg?
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Do you like this better?
Speaker 5 (43:08):
I mean it's math, So yeah, everything with math as
a Gugulus teacher, like they turned football into math. That
just made life a little bit easier. But like, if
you think about the old system, like we didn't even
know if we were D six, D five, or D four.
Then we didn't know if we were southeast, southwest, Northeast.
We've been all of them. So when I'm scouting who
we're going to play in the playoffs, I have no
(43:29):
idea who it is, right and so now this year
it's like, oh, okay, well I can take a look.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
At this man.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
You made some long drives for city meetings.
Speaker 5 (43:38):
I bet Oh yeah, the city meetings were crazy.
Speaker 1 (43:41):
I mean I loved them. Not many coaches, but I
love them too. I absolutely controversy. Give me a chance
to talk about my team and try and win a debate. Yeah,
I'm in. I'm in for all of that. I agree
with that. And other guys were like, you know, it's
so political that I loved it. And my favorite was
when Joe Cook said, look, it's so political for your
(44:03):
basketball coaches the ceedy meetings. Now that we're doing them football,
we're not political people as football coaches. After the first
seedy media goes, oh, we're very political, Like, I can't
believe what happened in that city meeting. I loved them,
and I liked when I got to stand up and go, look,
you have me at a four, and I think we
should be a three. And here's why I beat your team.
(44:26):
I beat you by twenty twice, and I beat him
by twenty twice, and you've got him ahead of me.
And I'm just wondering how I can do that type
of thing. And so I got to at least look
at them and say, here's let me just tell you
on why I think we should get moved up one.
And there are other guys that go, look, I hated
those things. Guys were arguing all the time, and I
(44:47):
don't like that.
Speaker 5 (44:48):
Well, it was hard. I remember one meeting I went
to and the coach was the only coach there from
their conference, and in this eighteen pool was four teams
from a different conference. And he was a great thing.
I've ever seen a seed meeting. He sat down, he goes,
I know, all four of you are going to vote
for each other. He goes, see me wherever you want,
I'll beat you all. And I was like, Oh, this
is this is real.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
I like that. I love that he got.
Speaker 5 (45:12):
The one he could get.
Speaker 1 (45:14):
Well, I can tell you that the Southern Lakes conference
when when Cook was over at Greenfield, came in and
they had a bunch of people from that conference and
they voted to have the conference one, two, three, and four,
and Southern Lakes came out and whooped them. They whooped
them all and they were like, yeah, we had a
conference call. As coach is going, they don't respect us
(45:37):
at all. Let's go out and take care of business.
And they took care of it. Do you like this
as an athletic director, musqigo, would you like this this
way better?
Speaker 3 (45:45):
I like the transparency of it.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
So everybody knows, Okay, this is our pool, this is
our division. The top thirty two are going to get in.
So the fringe people coming in already. No, it's not fringe.
All divisions, all all space in places like coach doesn't know.
If all these big teams make it, I'm gonna get
moved down to seven, or if the smaller kids make it,
now I'm gonna moved up. In the old model, it's
(46:09):
it's cutting dry. So everyone knows what's going on across
the state, all divisions. There's everybody's eyes are on it,
so there's no secrets, and I really believe it's going
to be a seamless.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
Here's our field, here's where we go.
Speaker 4 (46:21):
People might not like where they're going, but everybody knows
that you're who's in and who's not.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
Based on the ranking system.
Speaker 5 (46:27):
Which division are you guys, we're five. And the other
good thing about it is you used to potentially have
maybe the top three teams in that division all in
the same bracket. And so now what they do is one, two, three,
and four in the in the computer rankings, they're the
number one seeds in the four different brackets, and then five, six, seven,
(46:47):
and eight they're the twos. So it really does spread
out the wealth of the division through all eight seeds
instead of just having a pocket of say the Northeast
being really good at football, and now the top three
teams are all in the same bracket.
Speaker 1 (47:00):
That's gonna that's gonna make travel a little bit crazy,
especially for you. Not a lot of Division five teams
in this well.
Speaker 5 (47:07):
So when you look at, like, if we end up
being a two, the top the number one teams are
at Grandsburg, which is like Twin Cities, Northwestern, which is
like Twin Cities, So like we could end up being
a two and have to drive to the one if
we went out at at the Twin Cities.
Speaker 1 (47:22):
Hey, let me know. If you make for sponsors help
with hotel rooms or something, let me know, because we
might kick in for that if if need be not
a lot of Division five, you're almost guaranteed a couple
of home games though, correct.
Speaker 5 (47:38):
I mean yeah, if you get if you get a
top four seed, you get at least one. If you
get top two you get two.
Speaker 1 (47:44):
So and and and the Channel twenty four is not
to any playoff games, so I'll get a chance to
come out watch a game. And and look, I hope
I'm I'm not the reason you only have the one
loss on your schedule, and I'm banned from coming in.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
But if you are, we'll get you.
Speaker 1 (48:00):
Can I can I come stand on the sideline.
Speaker 2 (48:02):
My daughter hates that. By the way, I.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
Can't see the way I used to see, so even
to watch Beckett play junior Lightning football, I said, I can't.
I gotta go stand on the sidelines. There's two sidelines.
You could be on the other side. Coach Newman, I go,
is it okay? He goes, yeah, I don't care. My
daughter was so mad at me. She's like, you can't
just go stand in the sidelines. I go big time.
Mike McGivern, She goes, get up your dad. She was
(48:26):
ro mad at me.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
But I like her.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
Yeah, everybody does. Everybody likes her more than me. Hey, coach,
I can't thank you enough for coming in. I really
appreciate it. To the myun of respect that I've had
over the years for you and your staff and your
football program has always been really high. It's off the
charts now because again, I'm kind of part of the
Lightning family on the friends a little bit until I
(48:48):
get some real gear. I got to figure that out.
But I can tell you that that what I hear
at my true family functions about the job that you
and your staff in this school, not just in sports,
but in every area. I thank you for that and
please keep up the good work.
Speaker 5 (49:06):
Thank you, Mike, it means a lot for us.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
Man.
Speaker 1 (49:08):
Thanks Greg. You're sticking around, right, sir. Superhero the Week
coming in with all of her brothers, her mom, Sammy
Lee from Greendale Martin Luther. She's going to graduate high
school in three years. And her and I obviously there
are just like twins, right because that's Messmer High School.
That's what I did. I'm lying, not supposed to lie
(49:29):
in this show. Hey guys, thank you very much. Boys
over there, Adam, you and I will meet up next
week when you let me know which evening works best
as our Pick and Save Student Athlete of the Week.
This is the Varsity Blitz High School Sports Show, presented
by your local Pick and Save and Metro Market stores,
only on Fox Sports nine twenty and your iHeart Radio app.
(49:51):
Welcome back to.
Speaker 2 (49:52):
The Varsity Blitz.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
High School Sports Show is always presented by your local
Pick and Save and Metro Market stores. Coming live from
the Donovan and Jorgensen Heating and Cooling Studios, the largest
employee owned HVAC company in the state of Wisconsin. Any
issues you have with your furnace or your air conditioner
go to Donovan Jorgensen dot com. Before we get to
(50:13):
our Cernel Electric Superhero the Week, Ryan I, it doesn't
surprise you that Lake Country Lutheran plays really good football
and is in contention year after year. No, with a
guy like Brice Galla as their head coach.
Speaker 4 (50:27):
No, they're invested in each other and that's a secret
sauce and they keep doing it year after year, and
as long as they keep doing it, they're going to
keep being there.
Speaker 1 (50:35):
Yeah, he's really good and he's the only head football
coach in Lake Country Lutheran history. He started the program
with like twelve kids and he's like, I had to
like go through the hall and beg kids to play
football because I wanted to get this program going. And
their their junior Lightning program is really good. Their their
(50:56):
their JV program. It's just a great thing for for
for me to be a part of. And they have
my grandkids at that school. And Braskel when you ask
him stuff about his team, he doesn't talk about winning games.
Speaker 2 (51:10):
They want to.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
He's won a ton of games over the years and
he's like look, I you know, it's good, but it's
that's what that's what you get by doing all the
other things you have to do.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (51:21):
It's a cyclical now for him there the alumni are
coming back into the system and and it's all built
on relationships and people caring about one another, and they
got to going now. And if you ask him how
he's going to be next year, he's gonna tell you he's
going to contend for the conference and make a deep
run of the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
So in the off season of you know we do.
We talked football and then we talked basketball, and we'll
talk some baseball, but we'll do other sports. And we're
going to do a show Spencer and I on American
Legion baseball. American Legion Baseball. I didn't know anything about it.
Didn't know anything about it, and it's starting to grow
a little bit here. And I was up doing a
(51:59):
segment for around the Corner of John McGivern and there
was a guy I was going to talk to him
about his baseball program, and he goes, look, I'm the
high school coach, but you should talk to me about
American Legion. I go, what's that You go American Legion baseball.
I go, I'm in Milwaukee, Like, there's no American Legion teams.
He goes, it's starting to grow there, but it's huge here.
He goes, we might get three hundred people from my
(52:20):
high school. I'll get a thousand for my American Legion games.
And I thought, you gotta be kidding. I gotta go
see an American Legion game. So I go over to
Brookfield Academy and I walk in and sit down, and
all of a sudden, Hello, mister McGivern. I go, Hi,
who are you? I'm Sammy Lee, And I'm like, you
gotta be kidding me. I knew Sammy when she was
(52:42):
just this little kid running around Greendale, Martin Luther, when
I was coaching her older brother, Dakota, and I should
have been coaching her next older brother who decided not
to come out for basketball. We'll talk about that next segment.
But I said how are you? And she said I'm
great and big smile, big personality. I go, what are
you doing here? Well, I'm dating the spaceman and it's
the aad's son from greendub Bart and Luther and I go,
(53:05):
you got to be kidding that's awesome. What's going on
with you? And we just had a conversation and she goes, well,
I'm I'm going to graduate and I go, you're going
to graduate. She goes, yeah, I'm actually going to finish
high school in three years. And I'm wrestling and I
do this, this, this, and I go, do you know
I do a thing called the current Electric Superhero of
the Week, and I'm going to call you to be
(53:25):
one of our superheroes. She goes, okay, yeah, that'd be fine.
And I know she thought that boy's never calling me,
that man is never going to call me.
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Well we have been.
Speaker 1 (53:35):
I've talked to a bunch of principals and we've got
the next few weeks Current Electric Superhero the Week lined up.
But I wanted her for my first week. And I'll
tell you why. Her brother, Brody, who I'm going to
yell at for not playing basketball, I saw in the
weight room after he graduated, and I said, Brodi, what
do you Where are you going to college? He was
a big time student athlete. He goes, I'm not going
(53:56):
to go to college. I said, you're not why and
he said, already know what I'm want to do. I said,
what do you want to do? He said, I wanted
to be an electrician. And I go, you know, I
do a lot of work with Current Electric. He goes, really,
and I go, I could get your ride along like tomorrow.
Do you know this kid went on the ride along.
He's been working at Current Electric. And I talked to
Chuck Smith and the people at Current Joe and the
(54:18):
Current people at kur Electric. I had a lot of
their marketing all the time. Two days ago, Chuck Smith
said to me, I think the best employees we have
in the building of the people you've brought to me.
Keep bringing me more. And then he talked about Brodie Lee.
I go, you should listen at ten o'clock on Saturday.
I might have a sister on. And then I made
him and his brothers come in because these guys are
all former high school football players, high school student athletes,
(54:41):
and they're doing some really cool things in business right now.
And we're going to talk to those guys about high
school football and the businesses they've all started. Yeah, next segment,
that's what that's all about. Though.
Speaker 4 (54:51):
You know, we talk about growing young people and getting
those soft skills and the employability and how to work
with one another and be leaders whatever the field is,
whether you're electrician, doctor, lawyer, a nurse, doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
He well, you got two of them with the people
in this there you go, yeah, two of them.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (55:09):
So Sammy Lee from Greendale Martin Luther, she's a senior
going to graduate from high school in three years. And
I just laughed because at Messmer they would I if
they didn't want to kick me out after my senior year,
I could still be there because man, we're so different. Sammy.
It's good to see you.
Speaker 9 (55:25):
It's good to see you too much.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
How are you?
Speaker 10 (55:27):
I'm good? How are you?
Speaker 1 (55:28):
How school? You take care of your business taking? You're
doing your homework still and everything? You know? You bet
because you're a superhero the week. By the way, I
talked to doctor Wayne Jensen two days ago and I said, Hey,
the whole I'm convincing the whole Lee family to come in.
And he asked me, would you please say hello to them,
one of my favorite families, and would you make sure
(55:49):
you were mind to Coda that he dunked on the
wrong rim. So we'll talk to Dakot of Lee about that. Yeah,
I go, that's what you want you go, oh, yeah,
that's what I want you to bring up. And please
tell my sale Low And they are literally one of
my favorite families. So doctor Jensen says, hello, talk to
me a little bit about the motivation to graduate high
school early.
Speaker 10 (56:09):
So me and my friend we kind of like we
started talking about it freshman year, and we never really
got serious about it till sophomore year, but like we
were thinking, oh why not. We kind of wanted to
fast track this, and then that's when it really started
to get into motion, and we talked to our counselors
and all this, and they didn't think we were serious.
(56:30):
And then like halfway through sophomore year, we were like, oh, yeah,
we want to do this.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
Like what does it take?
Speaker 10 (56:37):
So I tested out of a few classes my freshman
year and then I did gym classes over the summer,
and I had to do an independent study this year
of an art class, okay for an elective credit. But
otherwise with all those credits, I will still graduate, like
with the above amount of what we're required to graduate with.
Speaker 1 (56:59):
Ran many kids graduating at Meschigo in three years.
Speaker 3 (57:03):
No, but you asked her what does it take?
Speaker 4 (57:04):
It takes sacrifice and giving up a lot of kids
just want to run and be social and do all
the things that you and I did which we won't
talk about.
Speaker 1 (57:13):
But thank goodness that nobody had cameras down their phones.
Speaker 4 (57:16):
Absolutely absolutely, And she's just very focused in owning your
business if you will, and getting after it and trying
to finish.
Speaker 1 (57:25):
So go to the current Electric Facebook page and a
beautiful picture of of of Sammy and and her bio
and and read the whole bio because I just think
that when when you read this thing, you kind of
get an idea. She's got a lot of interest in things, right.
So the first that that on the bio is the
interest in animals. Riding horses from little on I I
(57:49):
am scared beyond belief. I'm a big boy. I've gotten
bucked twice. I I don't even get within the same
mile of a horse. Just so you know, they're very
powerful animals and they scare me. Animals have is something
that have interested you and you've been around animals for
a bit.
Speaker 10 (58:07):
Yeah, Well so Dakota actually he was a big animal guy.
Speaker 1 (58:10):
Yes, he was went to Stevens Pointster get hunting fish.
Speaker 10 (58:13):
I think, right, Yeah, so he always had. We had
a lizard growing up, and then he got a dog
and we had a fish, and I had a tortoise
and all this kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (58:23):
And at like four or five, we.
Speaker 10 (58:25):
Went to actually Willow Creek Ranch, where I volunteered at later,
and I started riding there at like four or five
years old. And ever since then, I've fallen off probably
twelve times.
Speaker 1 (58:35):
But and you still keep getting you you're tougher than me.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
Just so you know.
Speaker 1 (58:39):
The second time this happened when I was a kid.
First time, we're going and my sister's horse bucked mine
or kicked mine, and he bucked me off and I
got back on. The second time, it thundered out and
mine raised up and took off and I couldn't hold
it and it went through a bunch of woods. I
was bloody, and I come walking and my dad's going,
(59:00):
what are you doing? And I go, never again, I'm
never getting on one of those animals. And they kept
saying you got to get right back on. I go, no,
I don't, No, I don't, And I've never been close
to one since. So, hey, you volunteered there at Willow
Creek Ranch, you do? And then bloom three sixty, which
is a school that your mom started, and I've been
I'm a big fan of your moms.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
And she's in studio.
Speaker 1 (59:22):
She's like, I'm not talking, but I'll take pictures. I go,
that's awesome. I'm gonna have her come in. I'm telling
you within the next few months to talk about Bloom
three sixty because we had her on years ago as
she started it and it's expanded quite a bit. And
we'll talk to her about that at another time. But
you volunteered there as well.
Speaker 10 (59:41):
I do, so I just help this last time I did.
I just helped put together some slideshows for their fundraiser
and stuff. And I go and sometimes I hang out
with the kids and just do stuff within like their
individual sections.
Speaker 1 (59:55):
Ryan, You're gonna love this about her. Sammy Lee started
playing numerous sports at middle school sports and earning her
black belt in taekwondo. She then freshman year played basketball,
then got talked into leaving basketball. And I know the
wrestling coach over at Martin Luther. He can convince you
of things. Tony's pretty good man. She's now a wrestler
(01:00:19):
at Martin Luther. Do you miss basketball? Not really do
you shoot it better than your brothers, because I've seen, yes,
you do. I've seen Dakota try to shoot a jump
shot and dunk.
Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
On the wrong hoop. We'll get to that.
Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
He rebounded and played defense, and he was the toughest
kid on the court. But that jump shot thing struggled
a little bit. But I only had him as senior year,
just so you know. Yeah, so they played basketball better
than you. But you can out wrestle them, right taekwondo,
you can beat them all up. Oh, these are some
big boys, you know. You cannot know. You cannot tell
me about your great point?
Speaker 7 (01:00:54):
Is what three point nine?
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Good for you doing all that? Let's just go tender
four point Who didn't give you an A? I can
yell at that teacher. Somebody gave you a B plus. No,
we won't go there. Don't do it. You're like, please,
don't get me in trouble, mister mcgiffern. Your motivation for
the servant leadership heart that you have, it's a it's
a learned behavior. We're not born with it. Where do
(01:01:19):
you think you learned that from?
Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
Well?
Speaker 10 (01:01:22):
I grew up like at Hills Corners Lutheran and the
Lutheran School and just watching like the leaders that we
had at like my mom and obviously my older brothers,
and then going to Martin luther and just having that
community centered around like the Christian like faith and all
that kind of stuff. I think that really influenced me
to like grow towards like wanting to serve people and
(01:01:45):
like wanting to be within and work in all these things.
Speaker 1 (01:01:49):
Do you know what you want to do when you
graduate too? Do you have any Look?
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Here?
Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
Are you sixteen? Yes?
Speaker 7 (01:01:55):
Sixteen?
Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
Sixteen? You can change your mind three times before you
leave the studio at sixteen, But if you had to
kind of close your eyes and guess what your future holds,
what do you think it looks like?
Speaker 10 (01:02:09):
Right after I have graduated, I'm planning on going to
a four year undergrad and hopefully getting my degree in
like economics, business or like English, that kind of stuff.
Then after that going to law school.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
Hopefully that's you know what school you're going to go to?
Speaker 9 (01:02:23):
Yet not yet.
Speaker 10 (01:02:23):
I've applied a few places. I'm working on some other applications,
but I'm just weighing the pros and cons right now.
Speaker 1 (01:02:30):
Have you watched Big Bank? The Young Sheldon that's kind
of what I've been like, are people lying. Our schools
have as anybody said, Okay, you need to come here
and we will help you scholarship wise because of you're
sixteen years old as a senior in high school.
Speaker 10 (01:02:47):
So I was talking to my counselor, and a few schools,
their counselors, like their student counselors, have reached out about
me and my friend just about like helping more with
the application and like process because we are a little younger,
and like they'll call us and they'll be like, you
don't have any senior classes and that's and we have
(01:03:08):
to be like, that's because we don't have.
Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
A senior year, and you don't have a senior year.
So so you do you sing at all? Are you
gonna thank goodness? Because then you'd have everything? Ryan She's so,
she's a student athlete and graduating three years right wrestling
taigwan black belt and taigwan k howondo. She also is
competing in visual arts classic drawing, painting. She's a hostess.
(01:03:33):
She dog sits on the side. Rigorous got a course
load of AP and honors classes for the past two
years while maintaining on a roll she I don't know
when she sleeps, to be quite honest with you, but
she's taking care of all her business man.
Speaker 4 (01:03:50):
She's getting it done, and she's gonna go to law school.
So I'm wondering if she's got some good reasoning and
debate skills. I bet her brothers would tell us.
Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
Yes, yes, and fighting skills, yeah, you don't want to
do you imagine a lawyer.
Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Who can also just whoop you in the parking line
if you don't go her way?
Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
Why?
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
Why law?
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
What part of law interests you right now?
Speaker 10 (01:04:10):
So? I love reading, and the kind of law that
I want to go to isn't more like so in
the courts, but it's like going over the details and
kind of like checking all the things and going over
a lot of the like visual and document parts of it.
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
I'm not sure if I've ever met somebody who's complete
opposite of me. You can't handle.
Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
The truth, that's what I want to do. I want
to be like.
Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
Standing up yelling at people. And you want to be
in the background. And you're a great student athlete and
I was neither, I guess. But if you could pick
the school that you would want to go to, now,
what school would would be like top of choice for Sammy.
Speaker 10 (01:04:50):
Lee, like law school or like right after right after
probably why Water in Madison. I kind of want to
stay in state, you do.
Speaker 1 (01:04:58):
Yeah, again, opposite, I'd be like Florida, Arizona, California, you know,
gets far away, not even because of the weather, but
just to see that part of the country. I love
that you're You're a family girl. You're like your Your
brothers treat you well. And I can yell at them
next segment if you need me to. They treat you well.
Oh yeah, I can tell you that. I called Dakota
(01:05:19):
and I called Brody and I had him on conference
and I said, I want you to come support your sister.
And they said done. And Brody said, I got Rogan
because he's helping me put a roof.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
On my home.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
So I've got him and we will come and we
will support our sister. And they may not tell you this.
They're really proud of you. They're really really proud of you. Hey,
you're not still hanging out with the ads kid, are you? Yes,
you are, because he went off to school. The he's
a good dude. The guy that we had in from
(01:05:49):
from Lake Country Lutheran. Adam's going to play football at Wenona,
and he said, the campus is unbelievable beautiful. Yeah, you've
been there. That's awesome, Sammy, I really appreciate you doing this. Guys,
go to the current Electric Facebook page. We didn't get
to all everything she does. We just didn't because we
don't have the time. But there's she's a really, really
(01:06:11):
impressive person. And I've known her mom for a long time.
I know her brothers. I don't know the younger brother,
Rogan all that well, but I certainly know the other two.
And we're gonna get a chance to meet Rogan, Dakota,
and Brody on the other side, and Cindy is sitting
in studio taking pictures. And it's funny because I don't
think she thought she was coming in. And right at
the end of us texting them, I said, hey, and
(01:06:34):
if you want to come take picture and stuff, come on,
and she's like, I'll come in, but I'm not gonna talk.
And I go, no, we'll have you in.
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
We will.
Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
I promise you we'll have you back in to talk
about Bloom three sixty and the great work that they're doing.
And this is more about you and your brothers. So
thank you so much for being our first Colonel Electric
Superhero of the Year.
Speaker 7 (01:06:54):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
Yeah, congratulations. And by the way, I'm gonna need your
address because they send out a T shirt and don't
do it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
Over the air, but your addressing.
Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
They send out a T shirt and a little gift pack,
and I'll make sure that you text that to me.
It's good to see you, thanks for coming in, thanks
for getting me.
Speaker 2 (01:07:10):
All that stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
And you got to get back to me a little
quicker next time. I'm telling you, Sammy Lear Kernel Electric
Superhero the Week again. Go to the current Electric Facebook page.
Other side of the break, Dakota, Brody, and Rogan all
former student athletes at Greendale Martin Luther and they're all
doing some great things in the world of business. And
I got to tell you, these guys are busy, man,
(01:07:34):
they are busy, and we're going to talk to them
on the other side of the break. This is the
Varsity Blitz high school sports show presented by your local
Pick and Save and Metro Market stores, only on Fox
Sports nine twenty in your iHeartRadio app. Yeah, it's a
family affair. It's the Lee family in studio with us.
Welcome back to the Varsity Blitz High School Sports show,
as always presented by your local Pick and Save and
(01:07:56):
Metro Market stores. Man Sammy Leear, Colonel Electric Superhero of
the week.
Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
So proud of her.
Speaker 1 (01:08:03):
I knew her when she was a little kid, and
I'm glad she said hello to me at that American
Legion baseball game. And I know that her brothers are
proud of her because they told me when I was
on the phone with him. Let's start, he is a
superhero from a current Electric. How cool is your sisters
are one of our superheroes of the week. Mister Brodie Lee,
(01:08:24):
how you been. It's good to see you. How's work going?
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
Work is good?
Speaker 11 (01:08:28):
Busy, seeing very busy after we quite a bit of
work after all that flooding and repair work in the basements.
But I mean that's our busy time in the year.
Either way, it's been really really busy.
Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
They love you there, yeah, man, And you know what,
they thank me. They haven't talked to me about Ryan much,
but that's all right. Ryan's doing a good job over there.
But I can tell you from the from the first
day that you did a ride along and I had
somebody from the Solar Division and the Residential Electric Division
calling me and going no, I'm we're going to make
him an offer. No, we're going to make it. No,
(01:09:02):
I'm making him offer. No, he's mine, No, he's mine.
They were fighting over you, and you walked in there
quiet and worked your backside off. And I can tell
you that that they are they they're the people over
there think the world of view. I'm the kind of
man you are and the kind of employee you are,
and the ambassador you are for Colonel Electric. Chuck Smith
(01:09:24):
just goes man Brodie's the man. He does great work
for us. So thank you. You make me look good,
just see you know, Yeah, what about that industry caught
your attention as a senior in high school.
Speaker 11 (01:09:36):
I guess I was looking for something with some expandability,
just room to grow. But trades, I've always been hands on.
I never really did much electrical or I thought of
electrical until I was really getting serious about finding a
job after high school and not going to college.
Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
So if you were a good student athlete, you were
a three five three six student. So when you when
you when I saw you in the weight room and
you said, look, I'm not I'm not going to college,
And I'm like, wait what because I knew you were
a really good student athlete, and you said I wanted
to be an electrician, and you probably saw my eyes
light up and go, man, what are you doing with that?
Because I can get your ride along like tomorrow at
(01:10:16):
Current Electric. And it worked out really, really well I
think for both of us.
Speaker 11 (01:10:20):
Yeah, I mean that worked out great. I wouldn't have
asked for a different route out of high school.
Speaker 1 (01:10:25):
Man, good for you, Dakota. How you've been I've been
doing well. My doctor Jensen wanted me to bring up
the whole it was a great look. I got to
go back and get get some film. You say it
was a great dunk.
Speaker 12 (01:10:36):
There is film of it somewhere. I don't know where
that is. Ristine Lutheran might have that somewhere in the archives.
Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
Is there a chance that doctor Jensen is going to
get a phone call after this?
Speaker 12 (01:10:45):
You know, that was probably the most public cheap shot
I've ever received about that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:50):
You know what, Dakota, you were a heck of a
basketball player. Look, I loved coaching you. You and Henry
Eric right. We have had a few seniors that first
year and and and you guys started that. We don't
win a state championship four years later if you guys
don't lead that group of young people that we had
(01:11:11):
on that team on what it was to be a
spartan basketball player. You guys didn't have a lot of
wins prior and we got I think nine your senior year,
and that was that was that was good at that point.
But I can tell you that those guys in that
building learned a lot from you. And the culture of
the school was changing at that point, and you guys
(01:11:34):
embraced it. And when I tell people about my four
years at Martin Luther, I start with that first year.
There was a lot of changes going on, not only
in basketball and in sports, but in the school. And
you guys led that change, and I thank you for that.
Speaker 12 (01:11:50):
Yeah, yeah, it was a big change. And I remember,
you know, a lot of guys went. We had some
really talented freshmen come in that year. We did, and
you know, some seniors lost a lot of playing time
to them, you know, rightfully, so they were they were
talented players. And yeah, it took a lot to embrace
that change, I think, and and just took us gritting
(01:12:12):
our teeth as seniors to.
Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
You know, this is this is what we got now.
This is the new change, new staff.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
And I can't imagine that you guys liked me and
Coach wallerschim all that much in the beginning when I
asked before the season, hey, well, you know coach Overlin
who I coached at Dominican. You know they go at
the end of practice, we do half court shot contest.
Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
We do this.
Speaker 1 (01:12:33):
I go, those days are over like you don't know
Coach Wallerscham at all. They're over, like, that's not what
we're doing. And I know the first couple of weeks
the change was, especially for a senior, we're very difficult.
But I have to tell you I was so impressed
with the maturity of you and Henry and Eric that
that you took that you took the changes and said, okay,
(01:12:54):
we're in We're in a new world right now. But
we got a chance to be pretty good. We got
some young guys that can actually really play. And man,
the fact that you embraced that made the world a
difference to us as a staff, no doubt. Hey tell
me you went to Stevens Point, my co host over there,
he played football out at Stevens Point. And when I said, look,
(01:13:15):
you went there because you wanted to go hunting and
fishing all the time, he started laughing because he's very
similar to you with that Stevens Point was a good
spot for you.
Speaker 12 (01:13:24):
Yeah, it was great. I enjoyed it. Yeah, outdoors is
my passion, hunting and fishing. I mean, I always made
sure I had my school work done, but had a boy,
you know, after class man we were headed straight to
the river while I fishing. It was close to our
family property, so I could shoot out there and hunt,
you know, for the weekend, real easy. And yeah, it
(01:13:46):
was a fun four years. I met some great friends too.
Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
Hey, just recently I found out that that you started
your own company, Lee Coaching and Wellness. Can you talk
to me a little bit about the mission of where
you think this company is going to going, why you
started it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:14:02):
Yeah, so I'd say, in a simple statement, my mission
is to really help people live the life that they
feel that they were meant to be living, that they
that they want to live. It's you know, I started
my career as a nurse in the emergency department, and
I learned that the Western medical model it has its
(01:14:22):
place in our world, you know, absolutely. But I kind
of learned that my passion was more of building health
and wellness on you know, pillars like exercise and whole
food diet and sunshine and sleep and more, more of
a holistic approach of aligning body, mind, and spirit with
(01:14:42):
those principles.
Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
I may call you, I may come and and see
I honestly, because there's there's parts of what you just
talked about that I'm lacking, and maybe it's time you
coach me up a little bit, right, I forget. I
would love that let's.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
Move them by that.
Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
They the lee boy that I know the least is Rogan,
but I watched him play football. I watched him play
basketball again. A really good student athlete. He is. He
started his own company. He is at white U W Whitewater.
And how are the grades over there? By the way,
you take care of your business? Yeah, all the leads
take care of their business in the classrooms. Where do
(01:15:21):
you think that comes from? By the way I'm thinking,
I think I'm thinking. She's sitting right over there. She's
about four ten and scares the hell out of all
of us, sometimes in a good way, in a good way,
and she's really I I talked to her for about
a half hour on the phone. She's so proud of
her family, so proud of you boys and her daughter.
And what are you going to school for?
Speaker 9 (01:15:43):
Finance?
Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
Finance? Can you make me rich? Remember how nice I
am to you? And this shows Yeah, I'm no, I'm
doing okay on that side, I think. But she started
a company called DBR Disposal And and you're you're going
about so almost like if when you're basement gets flooded,
you guys come and clean it out. Is that what
it is?
Speaker 9 (01:16:03):
Yep, just like that. I said, a lot a lot
of business like that with all these floods recently. Yeah,
we'll come on over and we'll handle all the heavy lifting.
Take it and take it.
Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
Away, take it to the dump. I wish you had
started the company. We moved to in it three years ago. Now,
the guys at the City Dump, I was working at
a different station on and over at one of three
point seven kids. If I'm going to use the van
and the guys at the Milwaukee City Dump with radio
each other, mcgiffern's here, mciffn's here, they would unload it.
If they could take what they wanted, and I said,
(01:16:33):
what are you doing? They go and we sell it.
You sure you don't want this? I go, I don't
get it out.
Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
Take it whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:16:39):
If you can make ten bucks on it, take it.
And I must have made fifteen trips over there to
the point that these guys knew my name and I
could have really used you. Why that? How that business?
And why that business?
Speaker 9 (01:16:53):
It's a simple business model, not much startup cost there.
It actually started with US three on the DBR to
hold to Brody Rogan. That's where the name comes from. Yeah,
I got that.
Speaker 1 (01:17:04):
Yeah, so it was I'm surprised you had your name
last you started it?
Speaker 9 (01:17:08):
Why, well, it was a joint effort starting it. But
I definitely do take a lot of it now, a
lot of responsibility.
Speaker 1 (01:17:13):
Now, do you think that's something that you're going to
continue after after school?
Speaker 9 (01:17:17):
If when you opportunities areas if I can roll into
that or after school to a full time thing.
Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
How many vehicles do you have right now?
Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
We only have one?
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
And is it a big truck or.
Speaker 9 (01:17:27):
It is a truck and trailer? Okay, so it's a
it's a pickup truck with a big dumb trailer.
Speaker 1 (01:17:31):
And How can people find out if they need your
service right now? How can they find you?
Speaker 9 (01:17:36):
Oh? You can look us up on the web or
go to Facebook or else on Instagram or call two
six two two eight three six three eight eight.
Speaker 1 (01:17:43):
Hold on, I got to write that down two six
two two eight three yep, six three eight eight.
Speaker 9 (01:17:49):
And our email is info at DBR Disposal.
Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
But they if they google DBR disposal they'll find it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
Yep.
Speaker 9 (01:17:55):
We do have a website at DVR disposal dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
And lead Coaching and Wellness. Yeah, this is like two
weeks old, right, I mean it's I know, it's been
in the works for a long time. How do people
how can they get a hold of you, Dakota?
Speaker 12 (01:18:09):
Yeah, well, yeah, it's brand new right now. We're getting
a website kind of up and running. It's not operational yet,
but right now social media look me up, Dakota Lee.
My name is spelled d A k O d A
and email. I got an email address as well, that's
Dakota at Lee Coaching and Wellness dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:18:31):
Man, I hope that a year from now you go, Hey, coach,
you quit talking about that on your show because I
can't handle any more business and I hope that that
servant leadership hard that you have that that people take
you and go, look, help me in this area of
my life because I need some help. Even a grandfather
(01:18:52):
of six needs Look. Every day is a challenge in
some of these areas for me, and it has been forever.
And I love the fact that that you're doing that. Hey, Brody,
when every day for you at Current Electric is different.
You're in residential correct.
Speaker 2 (01:19:10):
Yeah, I'm a residential service technician.
Speaker 1 (01:19:12):
You have your own truck, yep, you have guys with you.
Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
Yeah. I usually got one or two apprentices helped me
out for the day.
Speaker 1 (01:19:18):
Do you remember back in the day when you were
on that side of the truck and you didn't have it?
Are you much happier now?
Speaker 11 (01:19:26):
There's a lot more responsibility, which is you're supposed to
love that. But I like being an apprentice for the
first two years of my career basically when I was
nineteen and twenty, I mean I loved learning, and I
mean all I had to do then is just work.
Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
Yeah, work, work, work. Respond.
Speaker 1 (01:19:42):
Now you got to manage a little bitter You got.
Speaker 11 (01:19:44):
To manage the job, talk to the customers, make sure
you appentis is doing stuff right.
Speaker 1 (01:19:49):
I remember when I had current electric out to our
house on eighty eighth Street. We couldn't do the lights
and everything in the garage were out and they had
to dig a from our house to the garage. They
had to dig like a trench.
Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
Two of the guys, Joe was one of them, was
standing while the amperprentice was doing all the and I
go here, let me, I got two shovels. Let me
help you. They're like, no, no, no, get away. We're not
helping them, and you're not helping them. That's his job
and our job is to make sure he's doing this right.
And so far he's doing it fine. And I thought, man,
(01:20:26):
that's that doesn't feel right to me. If we all
jumped in we could get it done quicker. They were like, no, no,
this is how he's learning and he has to do this.
And I still tell Joe, hey, man, you could have
helped him. He's like, no, that's that's how we manage.
And we get these guys at that who are new
to learn.
Speaker 2 (01:20:42):
What we do. Yeah. I like teaching. I like jumping
in there and yeah, you're not just.
Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
Having one about Yeah, one hundred percent what's the best
part about about your job is it? Is it helping
people with some of the issues they have at their home.
Speaker 11 (01:20:57):
I'd say I love Yeah. I love meeting people and
meet somebody pretty much every day. The challenge of you know,
it's electrical, I mean, troubleshooting stuff like that, trying to
figure out what's wrong is a challenge.
Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
I enjoy that. And then just taking pride in my
work is what I enjoyed too.
Speaker 11 (01:21:13):
I mean doing something making it look really nice, and
standing bag and on somebody's house.
Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
I've made you a multi media star, by the way,
radio TV, you're all over the place. Mat you are
every time we do a TV commercially like who do
you want to go? I want him get me. Brodie
Lee does a good job on that stuff. I write
the script, you look at it once in boom into
one or two take and we're out of there. That's
the reason Chuck Smith and and everybody over there, Joe,
(01:21:40):
they they really really appreciate you and appreciate the dedication
that you have for current electric. Did I hear you
already bought a house? I bought a house, buddy, You're
going on, how's.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
That you like it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:52):
Yeah, broken, you got to put a new roof on today. Yeah,
you're going to is the code helping you?
Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
My dad's there right now.
Speaker 1 (01:22:02):
That's awesome. Tell him I say hello. By the way,
he's doing all the work. So we should just go
like three more segments so you maybe they'll get it
all done while you're sitting in the cozy studio with me. Man,
proud of your sister.
Speaker 11 (01:22:15):
Huh yeah, Sammy Lee very impressive.
Speaker 1 (01:22:19):
She is our kernel electric superhero the week and is
really impressive to me as well. And guys, I really
appreciate you coming in. I made you come in. You guys, well,
you said I'm bringing I'm bringing Rogan. He can't say
no to me. Dakota was easy, he said, Man, I
have coach. I'm there for you, no problem. Dakota Lee.
It's Lee Coaching and Wellness and and just go on
(01:22:41):
social media Dakota Lee with with a D, not a
t iola spell it with a T.
Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
It's d A k O d A Lee.
Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
Dakota Lee Lee Coaching and Wellness and then DBR sols
and you can go on your website if somebody needs you.
You just come work weekends or do you have guys
that will go on a Wednesday night if they need you.
Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
Well right now.
Speaker 9 (01:23:03):
To be honest, I'm still in school, I know, so
it's a lot of Friday and Saturday so weekend stuff
right now. But I usually work something out.
Speaker 1 (01:23:10):
Man, that's awesome, and he will he if you you
mentioned that you heard him on the show, you get
five percent.
Speaker 2 (01:23:16):
No nothing, I'm not ye you're in college.
Speaker 1 (01:23:19):
I'm not giving any discounts. Trust me, they're reasonable and
they work hard, and they're very respectful. And uh, I
know exactly where they get that from Big Martin Luther family,
and doctor Jensen said, look they are. This family is
one of my favorite families ever to go through Martin Luther,
and I appreciate that. Boys, it's good to see you.
(01:23:41):
And be nice to your sister. Don't make me come
over and whoop. You know she can whoop. She can
take care of herself. It's really good to see you.
Keep up the good work at Current Electric, very important
client to me and guys, it's good to see you.
Thanks Cindy, thanks for coming in. You did great well.
Have you come in talk about your school well later
in the year. This is the Varsity Blitz High School
(01:24:03):
Sports Show as always presented by your local Pick and
Save and Metro Market stores, only at Fox Sports nine
twenty in your iHeartRadio app. Welcome back to the Varsity
Blitz High School Sports Show Man the Lee family. Yeah,
they're impressive, right.
Speaker 3 (01:24:20):
Very impressive. You can tell they are.
Speaker 4 (01:24:23):
Sincere curious, yes, but passionate and humble at the same time,
and very hard working. You don't have to ask them
to work hard, No, They're just they're gonna do it.
And if they don't, the little mom she's gonna make
sure they do.
Speaker 1 (01:24:39):
She said, by the way at five to three, And
I go, wait, you know, the older I get, the shorter,
I get, show me five feet man. I've been a
fan of hers for a long time. And you you
can learn a lot about you know, the parents by
looking at their kids, right. And I would, man, I
(01:25:00):
I would tell teachers and coaches. I would give him
back in the day, my pager number, my cell number,
my home number, my work number, my facts number, and
if you have any issues with my kids, I need
to know about it and I will take care of it.
I can tell you that that I didn't know Rogan
all that much because he's the youngest boy. He was
(01:25:21):
really impressive. Brody, I've known for a long time. Dakoda,
I've known for a long time, and these guys, it's
always the same. You see him, they look you right
in the eye, shake your hand like a man, coach,
how you bet, how's your family, It's good to see you.
All of that stuff that young men in high school,
college and just out of college, they don't do that
(01:25:44):
a lot. There's not so much any you know, And
they'll be off with a group of their buddies and
I walk into some sporting event and they make a
beeline for me and look me right in the eye
and say, how you bet. It's good man, it's good
to see you. Tell me about what you're doing, like
that stuff. And that's why when Dakota Lee said, look,
I'm starting this coaching and wellness, I would I would
(01:26:07):
go to him to have one of my fellow players
coach me up in some of the areas that I'm
lacking because I have so much trust for him. And
he's a really smart guy.
Speaker 4 (01:26:18):
No you can tell he's been pondering this and he
has a plan and he knows exactly what he wants
to do, and he believes in his mission of building
people's lives to be what they wanted to be and
be healthier and be happier.
Speaker 1 (01:26:31):
When he said right out of class he would go
to the river to go fishing, you knew exactly what
you're talking about.
Speaker 3 (01:26:36):
Way and the.
Speaker 4 (01:26:40):
Lake debate and hitting the damn early in the spring
and crushing it.
Speaker 1 (01:26:45):
I wish that when he was in school there, you know,
you could have known that his family is laying because
he gets to go hunting their land a lot. Hey,
let's get back to high school football. Big game for Mesquigo.
Speaker 4 (01:26:59):
This week, yes, sir, Yeah, heading over to mcgwanagall rivalry game,
throw the records out the door, the whole both communities
will be there in force, and then really good football.
Speaker 1 (01:27:09):
Yeah, and then some winner of that game's let's talk.
If mcguanagall wins, what happens to the conference.
Speaker 4 (01:27:16):
If mcguanagall wins, then there's a three way tie. If
Arrowhead wins as well, atop the conference with McGonagall, Arrowhead
and Moskigo.
Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
And Arrowhead plays Kettle Moraine, he's having it down yere yep.
And if Mustigo.
Speaker 4 (01:27:33):
Wins, Muskigo will win the conference outright undefeated.
Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
You don't like sharing much, not when it comes to
that kind of stuff. Yeah, you share it like in
your personal life. Yeah you need ten bucks years ten by,
no problem with that. When it comes to that conference.
You'd like to win that thing outright. I saw mcguanage
go up close and personal against Milwaukee a couple of
weeks ago. You have your hands full. They're good.
Speaker 4 (01:27:59):
They can play their physical football team. They're very well coached.
We got great respect for coach gen Abach and and
great respect for really their athletic department in general, with
under Andy Trudell's leadership over there, they just do a
really good job. They're they're more like us than a
different from us, right, And I think that's what you
(01:28:19):
appreciate so much when you walk into the arena with
them as you're you're kind of looking in the mirror
and you're trying to get the best of who you are.
Speaker 1 (01:28:26):
Hey, and I'm going to ask you a look in
your crystal ball. If Mosquigo wins, how do you think
is Franklin and arrowhead right? Yeah, obviously mcgwanaico. These are
teams that have a chance to get a one seed.
How do you think this thing lays out.
Speaker 4 (01:28:42):
So I just I think in Division one, I think
the top four seeds, assuming Arrowhead, Franklin, and Wanakee all
win their Week nine game, Franklin and Wanakee will be undefeated,
Arrowhead will.
Speaker 3 (01:28:55):
Have one loss.
Speaker 4 (01:28:57):
I think those three teams will be three of the
four top seeds. And then the question mark is will
Muskigo win on Friday Night. I believe they will, and
if they win, they'll be in the other four seed.
And then I think what will happen, will push Wanna
Key northwest, will push probably Franklin northeast. And the only
reason I say that is because there's been a a.
Speaker 3 (01:29:17):
History of that in the past.
Speaker 4 (01:29:19):
I've been going to the northeast Fox Valley type area,
and probably means Arrowhead is gonna go to the southwest,
the Madison type area, and Muskigo will get down in
the southeast and kind of those will be your one seeds,
and then how they build it from there kind of.
Speaker 3 (01:29:33):
Remains to be seen.
Speaker 4 (01:29:34):
But I see people from our league going with you know,
us or Arrowhead and kind of filling out those brackets.
Speaker 3 (01:29:40):
And so there'll be some good football games.
Speaker 1 (01:29:42):
And there's a chance that you guys that in that league.
Obviously Mesquige and Willguana go Arrowhead. Pewaukee's got a chance
to get in. Waukshaw West has a chance. Oh, Kinwak
has a chance.
Speaker 2 (01:29:54):
Correct.
Speaker 3 (01:29:55):
Yeah, I think they could all be in.
Speaker 4 (01:29:57):
I really do. I think they're all gonna make it,
depending on how the points system shakes out. But we'll
see the update that comes out on Monday or Tuesday,
and everyone will.
Speaker 3 (01:30:05):
Have a really good See.
Speaker 4 (01:30:07):
That's a nice part about this new model is there's
no guessing. There's no what if or there's you see
what's out in front of you. And if you're a
math guy like coach brazil Is, yeah, he's got to
figure it out. He's going to know exactly Okay, we
got this, we got that, depending we when we see.
Speaker 1 (01:30:21):
Them light up when he said now it's just simple math,
like it's it's talking to me right. He's a math
teacher and he loves math, and he said, this makes
a lot of sense.
Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (01:30:32):
He said, I missed the CD meetings. Did you like those?
Speaker 3 (01:30:35):
I like the CD meetings.
Speaker 1 (01:30:36):
I loved him problem I did. I think for the
first time the three of us all agreed with it
because for the most part, guys are like, no, I
didn't like it, and Brascal had a travel for those
things in Division five. In this market, there's not a
lot now a lot of the five teams. It'll it'll
be fun. Next Saturday, I think, or Sunday is the
(01:30:57):
is the show?
Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
You know? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:30:59):
We just yeah, I'm thinking Saturday mornings.
Speaker 1 (01:31:02):
Yeah, I think so too. And I should know this
because my twenty four is gonna telecast in so I'll
figure that out.
Speaker 4 (01:31:09):
It's gotta be Saturday morning because they're gonna They're not
gonna hold the coaches up in terms of trading film
and true and all that stuff, because so the coaches
are gonna watch it and know, Okay, this is official.
Speaker 3 (01:31:17):

Speaker 2 (01:31:40):

Speaker 1 (01:31:41):

and a couple of players that came in. I want
to thank Sammy Lee and congratulate her as our Kernel
Electric Superhero of the week. And they get her three
older brothers who are so proud of her to come
in studio talk a little bit about their days at
Martin Lutheran, talk about the things that they're doing. I
want to thank them and coach, thank you very much
