It's time for Vikings Country, broughtto you by Miller Lte. Now here's
your hope. It's time for VikingsCountry, brought to you by Miller Lte.
Now here's your host of Vikings Countryfrom KFAN and the Vikings Radio Network,
Muss Christian McCaffrey. The single seta yukon Jennings left and McCaffrey runs
(00:26):
behind them. He step arms JordanHicks at the fifteen heads outside the numbers,
ball came out, hits up,head up. Vikings got the ball
head up about the twelve yard line. There was a fumble. A man's
from on for the ball. Howabout that? Wow? He took a
fumble from somebody. Elston ten fromthe fifteen. Bernie on a deep drop,
(00:48):
He's gonna pass over the middle Cannerstop Jack. Yeah, they took
the ball from the Niners and it'sCam bye them with the interception of brock
perty And with five and a halfminutes to go in the game, the
Minnesota Vikings, with a five pointlead, have turned over the forty nine
ten killing motion to the left.Part of the pre receivers to the left,
(01:08):
two right, one of them toMcCaffrey. Hurdy back to pass,
but he needs to sack him.He loops it over the middle, inner
stuff dead. He has the Vikingseat the Niners and tam fine them have
a two interception night and now afight get unfurls on the field. And
we're not over exaggerating that there werepunches thrown. These now were asked.
(01:30):
Niners can go ahead and get outof town. Were dream and got to
all the world time and time again. Stories fast is that all these the
(01:52):
com first Saint Paul tips we're creakingup Creed right now, ladies and gentlemen,
there's a long set the Vikings twentytwo seventeen with a big win at
us Bank Stadium last night, andI could not be more excited. It
was just a couple of weeks agoand I thought he'd never return, and
then he was like, no,hell no, I'm coming back to Vikings
(02:15):
country with Miller Lyte and of courseKfan Harrison Phillips. Ladies and gentlemen,
appreciate you guys. Got to seeyou again, you big Creed fan.
We have to be now right.Yeah it's working, Yeah, it's working.
Good vibes, it's a good switchup. Even though Kirk says,
maybe we should play some more Creedand just not just higher. But do
(02:37):
you do you change that? Yeah? I mean you want to diversify yourself
as much as you can. Theyhave a catalog, yeah, they do.
They have a lot of good optionsfor us. So and I saw
Harrison Smith make some comments today abouteducating the younger generations coming up about Creed.
So right right right right as youheard those highlights, there, Cam
binde them a couple of picks inthat huge game. Defensively, the mission
(02:59):
of Vike Kings absolutely showed up.And I gotta ask you this question because
you guys were doing the celebrations inthe end zone, and I believe it
was on the turnover. I don'tknow if it was Smith that got the
forest fumble. Officially I thought itwas, but Cam was in on that
lowery gets the recovery. And thenthis is a weird thing, is that
(03:23):
you have Evans by the shoulders, you lift him up and you're gonna do
the limbo thing. He's the limbostick. And then you guys choose Ivan
Pace Junior. That wasn't supposed tohappen. We also were hoping to choose
a less heavy cornerback. I mean, not that Caleb is is big by
(03:46):
any means, but yeah, wewere looking for booth. Yeah, we're
looking for booth. But it workedout, and because it was kind of
hankey, because I mean, yeah, but we Yeah, we have a
celebration coordinator, one of our rookies, and so each week he tells us
what we're supposed to do when weget the big play. Yeah. Yeah,
(04:08):
on a level that bubble wasn't cominganywhere near in the middle. But
that was absolutely cool. And thenafterwards, I know in the post interviews,
Cam had mentioned the fact that youguys had not come up with different
ideas about what we do for celebrations. And you know, of course he
did the worm, which I appreciated. He did the front worm because that's
(04:29):
harder to do than the backworm. Are you a good Have you done the
worm before? I have done theworm before, probably a few surgeries ago,
a few slip discs before. Ifwe don't want to end up on
IR, we probably keep the lumbarin a neutral spine for a while.
But then you guys actually discussed it, and then I liked what he said
is that we thought about this andit's just a mindset was like, Okay,
(04:53):
we got to have stuff to celebrateabout. Now we're going to go
after it. And so let's goget some picks. Let's go get some
fumble recoveries. Yeah, and geis super contagious and not that planning the
celebration is what causes the the bigplay. But it's nice to have it,
you know, thought out. Getthe guys as juices flowing ladies and
gentlemen. As we're sitting here inSaint Paul here at TIFFs and we're giving
away tickets in the Miller Lte Loungeto go see your Minnesota Vikings and do
(05:15):
the skull chant and the whole works. You should know this, said Harrison
Phillips. This is what I heardthis morning with Paul Allen, and I
don't believe that he would lie.Uh, you lead the NFL in tackles
for defensive lineman, ladies and chilemen. Horrible Harry getting in there, I
guess, so I didn't know thateither. But yeah, man, just
(05:39):
trying to anchor down, like Isaid, the fire hydrant at the dog
show sometimes in there in the middle, and but you know, coach Flow's
got a good plan and yeah.Man, that's hopefully we can continue to
build on that. We've got alot a lot of weeks left, so
we'll see how it all shakes outthe end. Let's talk about that defense
and how good it has been, especially the last couple of weeks. But
I mean last night that was edible. I mean, you got Christian McCaffrey.
(06:01):
You guys absolutely stymied him on theground. It was fantastic. I
mean, yeah, he did geta couple of touchdowns, but ultimately his
biggest yardage was from a throwout, and yes, he did get the touchdown,
but that's a guy. And overall, you guys shut down that offense.
That is really really damn good.Yeah, they're they're fantastic. And
(06:26):
you know, Christian probably playing prettybanged up, right. You know,
that's a good friend of mine andoffensive Player of the Year type guy.
He's guys play together. Yeah,we were same class back at Stanford,
so yeah, I know he wasplaying through some stuff and they were a
little banged up, but I don'tcare. You know, you roll out
there Monday night and you know thisthis is a you know, any any
(06:47):
given week type of type of thing, and we had our best foot forward
and played some really good football. And those turnovers obviously are huge for us.
So we had three of them Ibelieve, right and three to one.
Ye. Yeah. To try toget that turnover margin back in our
favor is going to be a goodgoal for us this season. Let's talk
about that defense and bflow and allthis. I mean, daneil Hunter leads
(07:08):
the NFL with nine sacks so far. Dj Wanham has really stepped up quite
a bit here with some sacks, some TFLs. You've been dominating in the
front line. As we mentioned, you got more tackles than anybody else on
the line in the NFL, bindthem getting a couple of picks there.
Also you got Jordan Hicks and HarrisonSmith all over the field. They are
absolutely spectacular. This defense is clippingat a very high rate right now.
(07:32):
Yeah, you know, it's it'sinteresting the scheme that we have, and
you know, it's something that youhave to kind of buy into, right
We change schemes, get new newguys in new new coaching philosophies, and
we go through it all through OTAsand find the issues that might come up
and find the strong points and whereit helps us and where it hurts us.
And you know, some of thesepressures that we have, that's why
you see some of the safeties havingunbelievable production. Is it's kind of a
(07:54):
system where a lot of times it'sbuilt for the linebacker play and this one's
kind of built a little bit forthe safe. And so you obviously want
your best players in those positions, and those guys have been showing up,
all three of them. If youknow, you count to tell us in
that group. And so we haveall the confidence in them and know that
when the big play needs to bemade, if we're calling their number,
they'd make it. All right,We're hanging out here at Tipsey and Saint
(08:16):
Paul, and thank goodness, youguys all made it because if you heard
the traffic reports, Holy goodness.I had a moment on the drive in
going in to work at K oneO two. I'm driving up one sixty
nine, I'm coming from Savage andon the southbound this car all by itself,
also in the sedan hits the Jerseywall. I mean, it would
have come right at me, tiresoff the ground, the whole work man,
(08:39):
You want to wake up. That'sthat's a hell of a way to
do that. Yeah, hopefully everyone'sokay there, so you pray for them.
Beats ca yeah, beats caffeine.Oh you're not worried about meat.
Yeah, well yeah, I'm comingfor your job. So it's different.
And it's raining and it was coldand I'm driving over, you know,
the Mississippi Bridge and the rowing team, the U of M rowing team was
(09:01):
out there in the rain. Ohyou gotta respect that grad. Are you
a rower? Have you ever rowed? No? I was gonna be like,
yeah, I was on the lightweightrowing team, but no, Ye're
on the back of the boat andit's supposed to be buoyant and that's not
what I was built for. Poyant. See. Uh, we got Harrison
(09:24):
Philiser hanging out with us Vikings Country, tons of stuff to get get into
darisaw he was on last week. That man just loves to hit people.
It's crazy how strong he is.And during the game he actually throws Nick
Bosa very strong man. Yeah, one of the best in the NFL.
He's paid that way, throws himto the ground and then sits on him.
(09:48):
Uh. Dude, CD is abeast. I mean I mean when
I first got here, I didn'treally know a lot about him, right,
he was still was it your fourform right now? Yeah? Three?
You're three? Right? So hewas just come off his rookie year
when I got here, and uh, we're out in no tas and this
he's moving way faster than he lookslike he should be moving and he gets
(10:09):
his hands on you. He's sucha laid back, chill guy that you
don't see that aggressiveness and when hecrosses the white lines. But I was
so impressed with him. And thenthat's just been the rhetoric that finally I
think some of the national media ispicking up. But he's like one of
the, if not the one ofthe best tackles in in the National Football
League. So we're exactly that he'son our team and protecting for us.
And I'm sure he'll get a goodpay day here soon. Oh. When
(10:31):
he was with us, he wasI asked him how you throw these huge
men down, and one of hisfamous and favorite things to do is he'll
just body splash on top of him. Yeah, and he was talking about
wrestling, because you and I've talkedabout how you know after this career you're
gonna be a pro wrestler. Hisfinishing move is just basically just three point
(10:52):
fifteen just and he has his armsout to the side too, as like
I'm not doing anything wrong, likedon't penalize me here I fell or something.
I've seen him do that a handfulof times. But have you ever
been under a pile like that?I mean, obviously quarterback sneak ever in
the history of the world. Haveyou ever gotten to the point where you're
like, Okay, this is toomuch studio? Yeah, Sometimes I feel
(11:13):
like I'm like a you know, you roll up your toothpaste from the end
and it's just gonna pop. SometimesI feel that when you're down under there.
I remember this last one. Westuffed them on third and one.
I think they ended up converting onfourth and one, but on that third
and one sneak we stuffed. Iwas at the bottom of the pile.
I think Bullard was on the otherside. You're just getting flat and you
hear your like helmet screws squeaking andcracking, and I remember I looked over
(11:35):
to the side and bull was doingthe exact same thing. We like slowly
get up to like one knee andmake sure everything's still in one piece.
You're like, oh, we gottago line up and do this again.
So yeah, man, that's fun. Yeah, yeah, well we appreciate
that. It's fun. Fancy.Halloween is coming up obviously, we're just
what Tuesday's coming up here, sowe're a week away. Are you big
(11:56):
on the candy and more importantly, when you guys are doling out candy at
your place? Yeah? Are youa bite size, fun size or are
you getting the big full size?Yeah? The full size? Yeah,
I enjoy uh, just basic Hershey'sbar. That's my favorite candy. Just
(12:18):
chocolate. I'm a chocolate guy.Oh it's just chocolate. I mean I
can, I think I can putit in there a little bit, but
it's not the first bar I grab. Yeah. We have moved into a
new neighborhood last year and really didn'thave any trick or treaters and so,
like there's a handful of houses,so we didn't really keep the lights on,
didn't have any. This year, there's gonna be a little bit more.
So I do plan to go fullsize this year. Maybe full size
(12:39):
Hershes is the plan. Sometimes youjust do yeah, absolutely, Sometimes that's
just for the neighborhood kids. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe
tape it. I don't know, take a twenty dollars on it or something
too. You know you're getting thestickersize, I don't know you Yeah.
We got more coming up here onthe way Vikings Country. We're here in
Saint Paul Tips. Harrison Phillips ismy guess and by the way, you
(13:01):
can join Pa. He's gonna beat the Buffalo Wild Wings Maplewood this Friday
from not until noon. It's FridayFootball piece presented by Coors Light. Enjoy
food and drink specials and you gota chance to win Vikings tickets and so
much more. Vikings dot com slashbww for full schedule and details. More
coming up on the way. We'rehanging out with Miller Light. We're hanging
(13:22):
out with a bunch of skull fanshere from Bikings Country on the Fan.
It's time for Vikings Country, broughtto you by Miller Lyte. Now here's
your host of Vikings Country from Kfanand the Vikings Radio Network. Muss heard
and two from the forty nine Ers. Twenty three receivers left Hawkins. In
(13:43):
a short motion, the forty nineErs rush for Kirk straight drop clops to
the end. HiT's a hive fivefor Jordan Addison, his fifth touchdown this
season, and the Viking have takenus thick zero lead. Blitz like Pete
said, so Cousins fires over themiddle and it is twenty ten touchdown that
(14:13):
time Jordan Addison stole it from Tarperryis bored and it's as sixty yard touchdown
and the Vikings bright in the shadowof halftime and they lead sixteen to seven.
When dream and got it to nothave enough Creed Vikings Country with Miller
(14:35):
like the official mere sponsor of theMinnesota Vikings. We're here at Tips in
Saint Paul. Look at these gorgeousVikings fans turn it out super loud last
night at us Bank Stadium. Ourspecial guests, Harrison Phillips is here,
and I don't want to give anythingaway at all, but I really think
it's a really good idea for thedefensive line for a Halloween costume. We'll
(14:58):
just leave it at that. Ilike the idea. You might be able
to get a hint there, buthere Jordan Addison, my goodness, six
touchdowns so far, only behind TyreekHill. This kid good company. Unbelievable
with one twenty three just last night. He is something. Yeah, man,
I've been very impressed. You know, he came a little banged up
(15:20):
I think from college, and allI did since I saw him there is
kind of keep his mouth shut andwork and he was just you know,
doesn't say a lot, just getshis work in. Seems to be on
the trajectory of becoming a true professional. And you're seeing the production out of
that whole room. But him specificallytoo. Man, the upside on him
is great. So we love that. Okay. I know that you do
stuff with the NFLPA, yeah hereinvolvement there. Can you do anything at
(15:46):
all to make sure the abolishment ofthe tush push actually comes into play?
And I'm only saying that because ofthe last night's game. You don't have
to. I haven't made a publicstance on my opinion on that that the
tush push, but I like it, I mean I do. I like
the physicality of it. And youknow, look at the Buffalo game last
(16:07):
year, where you can change thetrajectory of your uh your team too.
The other way you're getting stop that. Yeah, So I don't know.
I think I think it's still partof the games so we'll let it go.
We'd love to see those white sleevesgoing on, leaves flying around.
You know, I'm in there gettingdirty. Did Kirk Cousins play the best
game that you have seen him inPurple in the last two seasons that you've
(16:30):
been in Purple? Have you seenhim play the best game that he's ever
played? Last night? I meanhe was. He was incredible. There
was a game last year at homethat he was like twenty five for twenty
five or something like that. Doyou remember he had like some type of
y he yes, it was insane. Yeah, yeah, for something like
that. I thought that was reallyimpressive. Three hundred plus yards. Yeah.
(16:51):
I thought what he did in Buffalowas pretty impressive too. I don't
I think, dude, every gameKirk is like incredible. Yeah, I'm
all in on, and I don'treally get to watch the offense as much
as I'd like to, so I'dprobably just look at the numbers. Was
it statistically one of his best gameseventy eight? Uh? Yeah? Was
it? Three touchdowns? Three touchdowns? Right? Three? Two touchdowns?
He had an interception but that onewas stolen from Addison on that one.
(17:15):
But yeah, I no, helooked fantastic and the fact that he had
he wasn't sacked once. Yeah,that's that's a that's that's awesome. Our
offensive line, I think they allgot game balls for that. But that
that forty nine ers defense is insane. That d line is really stacked,
so hold them to zero sacks ishuge. Are you ready for the five
typically stupid Vikings country questions? Yes, okay, whether you are, we're
(17:37):
doing them. I forgot. Uh, perms are making a comeback, the
permanence, the perm Okay, whatis the worst hairstyle that you've ever had
that you went with that? Iwent with Yeah, I mean I went
with a mohawk back in high school. I didn't think it was terrible,
but was it a full hawk orfull mohawk? It was? It was
a mohawk. Yeah, legit, mohawk. We all kind of did it
as a defensive line my sophomore year, but that was it. You know,
(18:00):
wrestlers do some crazy stuff with theirhair around the state and stuff,
but I never did. Right.Well, yeah, that was really good,
by the way. My worst wasthe hockey hair. We called it.
It wasn't mulley, but it washockey hair. Yeah, but the
worst part was I shaved the topand the sides, and I left the
back drape going and I permed it. Oh yeah, is their photo evidence?
(18:23):
Yes, we gotta pull that upall right. Number two. Uh.
List of celebrities and their favorite candiesinclude Kelsey he loves butter fingers.
You've already talked to it. It'sthe Hershey, yeah, basic Hershey.
But do you do you venture outat all anything chocolate? Really? Reese's
Cup maybe a little butterfinger ish?Do you believe that the Reese's Peanut butter
(18:45):
cup is a little over sold?I mean it's delicious. Don't even start
with me. Well, okay, but solo dolo Maybe not her shattering,
but you put that stuff in icecream? Give me a little blizzard.
That's game up. Yep. NowI knew we were gonna be friends.
By the way, where's my food? Oh yeah, it's coming to you.
Gotta earn it. We're not makeme hungry. During a charity show
(19:11):
in La this weekend, step brothersWill Ferrell John c Riley, they reunited.
They sing boats and hosts and uhthey added Snoop Dogg to it as
well. One of the greatest moviesof all time step Brothers in your opinion,
though, Harrison Phillips best Will Ferrellmovie, best Will Ferrell movie ever.
(19:33):
Yeah, dude, that's a pop. I mean I got them.
There's a lot old school's outstanding coursestep Brothers. I think with m El,
I think on brand for me isElf. I think that's on brand.
Yeah. Yeah, that's probably notthe first one i'd choose, Like,
if I was scrolling through all ofthem, the first one i'd click
(19:53):
on. But if you think aboutlike to stand the true test of time,
I think Elf is gonna be out. We were this close to the
same time, I said, Imean, we could go streaking and then
head to the quads if you want. Everyone's doing I don't know, let
me talk to Quasi and Kevin seewhat they think. Oh sure, you
always have to ask. Yeah.Uh, there's a new thing called combat
(20:15):
juggling juggling clubs. What are wedoing? The idea is that you have
to try to steal the other team'sclub as they're juggling, which I was
hoping it was juggling, and thenyou just have to throw something at somebody
and then try to catch it.But there's no body contact. Is there
some kind of weird game that youand your friends back in the wrestling days
(20:36):
when you had a mohawk in thewholeworks a weird game that you guys created.
I don't know if we created thisone, but it's pretty big in
the wrestling community. It's a likepin the diaper or something like that.
So you like randomly assigned people numbersand when they yell that number out,
you have to run to the middleof the mat and there's a towel there
and you can either win by gettingthe towel and running it back past the
(20:56):
line, or normally like you gettheir same time, So like a wrestling
matt which kind of starts and youwould win if you make it like a
diaper through them type of thing.Just totally embarrassing. Yeah, yeah,
So I would say that's the firstthing that comes to mind. Last one,
Packers two and four. We're atGreen Bay at Lambeau coming up here
on Sunday, looking to go fourand four. Aside from US Bank Stadium,
(21:17):
what is your favorite stadium to playin and why I like going to
Arrowhead There's a lot of history there. I grew up in Nebraska, so
it's kind of close. A lotof my friends are fans, so even
though it was always an away gamefor me, I had like a home
crowd. My buddies would all comeout, and so I liked playing there.
The first time I played at Lambeau, I thought it was pretty cool.
(21:38):
I was with Buffalo. There wasn'tthe big rivalry that it is today
now that I'm up here in theNorth, So I can't really say that,
but I'm gonna go. Yeah.I think us Bank and Arrowhead are
probably my favorite. Okay, here'sanother one. Because we talked about this
last time, and I just lovewhat you're doing, Harrison's Playmakers, And
then you and I were talking offthe air. You've got so many other
(22:00):
things that are going on that youare involved with the community. Can you
share some of those that are comingup that anyway that somebody can help.
Well, yeah, just right beforeI got here, I was running tad
Lad. I was with the MasonicChildren's Hospital doing a fashion show with some
of their patients where we were doingHalloween costumes. So we were paired up.
But this Thursday back in Omaha, run it out like a pizza machine,
(22:22):
which is kind of like a DavidBuster. So we have one hundred
kids and their families come in doinga bunch of stuff there. I We'll
have holiday shopping sprees and all threecities that I'm in, and then I'm
planning a Turkey Thanksgiving event here inthe Twin Cities where we're gonna partner up
with some of the veterans and theirfamilies. What's the website Harrison's Playmakers dot
Org. Awesome Harrison Phillips, Ladiesand gentlemen hanging out with us here Vikings
