(00:00):
In the Billin Main one on sixpoint one cam. Yeah, you got
your boy film on Mic and theVillain, and we got a lovely guest
a first time in the Bay Area, Rose Marie. One word, one
word, I mean one name.Yeah, I appreciate that. Wow,
we're getting off to the greatest startpossible. I love that. Thank you.
(00:20):
It's all love a hotel. Yeah, you know I've seen that because
actually I tried to google some things. Of course, you know, get
to do an interview, try tofind out as much that I could find
out, and I was doing RoseMarine and I couldn't find you. I
was getting old white ladies and stuff. You know. You know what,
You're not the first person to tellme that. Even when you type it
in one word, I be hearingthat it's a lot of old white ladies.
(00:43):
So I don't know. I toldmy PR team about I gotta be
working on it. I got it. What's your Instagram handle? A little
Roxy or something, a little extraRosie. We're working on that. We're
working on that. You don't likethat. I've just literally had it since
I created my Instagram in like twentythirteen. I just feel like it's it's
it would be great to just havemy name. You know, Instagram are
(01:03):
going back and forth about it,but we're gonna figure it out hopefully.
Okay, you gotta get you getwith your legal team at uh Instagram and
stuff. You know. Yeah, yeah in the bay you in the Bays
will go to the offices. Oh, I didn't even know that was.
I have a lot to learn.Yeah, a bad Silicon Valley man,
San Jose, uh Frisco, Oakland, Richmond, Valo. Wow, I
(01:26):
know so. So it said whenI was reading with Neil Sidney, it
said that you grew up in thein the Dror or Puerto Rico. No,
okay, let me know. Neitherof those are correct. So I
am Dominican and Puerto Rican. Gotcha, Yes, that's definitely correct. I
was born in Downey, h inl A. Okay, for sure,
(01:51):
in the LA area, and butI did move around a lot. So
I always say that I consider mythree homes to be New York, Orlando,
and California. The talent that comesout of Orlando, oh my gosh,
yeah, I forgot. I thinkTyler Tyler of course, you know,
and Sync and all them and everything. How is your time in New
York honestly, how old were you? It was so so I it's hard
(02:15):
for me to remember. I wantto say I moved to New York maybe
when I was like five or six, six is sixeres. And then I
left probably by the time I waslike okay, oh, and then but
then I so I moved from Imoved there from living there full time,
and then I moved to Florida tostay with my dad, and then I
(02:38):
would go back to New York forlike summers and Christmases because that's where my
mom is from and where she wasliving. Got you, So yeah,
I just feel like it was superlike impressionable and just really gave me a
sense of like, I don't know, the culture is so rich and like
(03:00):
just such a huge melting pot andout there it's almost like the closest that
I feel two being to dr PuertoRico, you know what I mean,
Washington Heights and stuff. That's wherewe lived. A lot of war stories
(03:20):
about that thing. So tell meabout like how do you get your start
just with music in general, notjust in the music business. Okay,
yeah, So I always preface thissort of story as being like I think
I was singing probably before I couldtalk. My family is super musical.
(03:40):
My mom had a beautiful voice. My dad was a DJ, and that's
how they met apparently. So yeah, so I meant to be, I
would say. So, you know, like I said, my my family
is super musical. So at likefamily parties, you know, my dad's
DJ, my mom singing, mycousins are playing these instruments. A few
of my cousins later on to laterwent on to like, you know,
(04:03):
produce and et cetera, et cetera. So it was just always very music
heavy, music driven whenever we wereall together. Definitely. So yeah,
I don't know necessarily when I feellike the connection was made that somebody felt
like I was good at singing orlike I sang. Well, I don't.
(04:25):
I don't remember when I made thatconnection, you know, until I
was very a lot, a lotolder. But I just remembered that my
family would ask me to sing, and whenever I would, it would make
him really happy, okay, andit would just be a great time off.
So so yeah, I think that'sthat's the earliest I can remember.
Around the time when I was likeseven or eight, my dad had like
(04:47):
a makeshift studio where he would beputting together his mixes or whatever, and
I recorded sort of my first instudio cover that he burned on like CDs
and gave out to everybody that wasfallen by Alicia Keys. So shout out
Tevisha Keys. She's a huge influence. Define. So yeah, man,
that's what's up. And definitely shoutout to Alicia Keys. It's full when
(05:08):
Michael one on six one one cam, Yeah, we're sitting here with the
lovely Rose Marie, and please forgiveme happy Women's History Months. Dig you.
I love that. Thank you somuch for real. A question I
had in regards to Women's History Month. You know, every day you're you
know, you're trying to create alegacy and uh you know, you know,
you know, make your impact andmake your stamp on history. Name
(05:31):
some of the things that you're tryingto do. I would say some of
them I almost don't want to speakon until I'm like closer to getting them,
But I will say I have avery special place in my heart for
kids and like kids with terminally illparents that has a very you know,
(05:57):
huge significance to me. Definitely, some I don't even want to say charity,
but just support, you know,in those in those types of areas,
in those different communities that I hadmentioned before. I would love to
have one in New York, inCalifornia, and in Florida. So that's
like probably like the biggest thing thatI would say as of right now,
(06:19):
aside from just you know, careergoals and whatnots. I feel like I
music is such a huge part oflike my DNA, but the people who
I really look up to have usedit as an avenue to go on and
serve in such a wide, greaterway. They use the music to do
(06:43):
more exactly. So that's really that'sreally my plan too. Yeah, that's
real man. How was it workingwith Juvie? Wow? So first of
all, yeah, we love juvenileto hot boys and all the cash money
clicked. I mean, I'm prettylegendary. Yeah. Yeah, No,
So I had been working on thatsong and I wrote it and then I
(07:04):
had that idea to sample it,and then Bird of bird Vision was like
kind of like, I do youone better, like let's see, let's
see, and it was it.I literally, I literally was just like
I couldn't even fathom it because I'mjust like, you know, maybe we'll
(07:24):
just come back to this whenever wecome back, and then we'll deal with
it. And then he had hewas like, nah, he heard it.
He's he sending something back. AndI was just like what, Like
I couldn't even And then we playedit and I think I don't even think
it sank in right away, Likewe played it, and I was just
like he approached it in such away that I felt like was so unexpected
(07:46):
too, you know what I mean, Like I was just like WHOA,
Like I felt like I had likesome crazy ass to like shit on my
hands, you know what I mean. Like I got a verse from Julie,
So that was that was just socrazy. And then he ended up
coming through and doing the video withme as well, and so I got
to meet him in person, andhe and his wife were just so encouraging
(08:07):
and supportive and humble and just beautiful, and it was it was an amazing
experience, definitely. So he's amazingpeople definitely gives unk vibes like just you
know, like just that he's justso big and so legendary. So yeah,
it was just it was incredible. For that's cool, that's what's up.
(08:28):
I was reading that you started offdoing a lot of poetry. Yeah,
how do you how do you takethat to music or is it just
one? I think I would say, I feel like, hmm, how
do I approach that question? SoI feel like in school, whenever I
was younger, we were encouraged towrite poetry and I think you know how
(08:52):
to do a high coup and that. I almost said that. I almost
said hikus. So you like theword write out my mouth? Yes,
So yeah, we definitely, wedefinitely did some haikus and so yeah,
I think the transition between that andsort of writing music was it was like
(09:16):
I wrote poetry almost and I wouldn'tso sorry, let me rewind a little
bit. So my teacher, Ifelt like, didn't anticipate maybe the depth
that I had at such a youngage, but I felt like it was
I had that depth because of thethings that were going on in my personal
life. So all the kids arewriting about like I don't know what,
(09:41):
and then she reads mine and I'mlike, yeah, like I'm like I
just remember being it felt very profound, you know what I mean. And
she was just like this is crazy, like where did you come up with
this? And I was just like, oh, like It's just it was
like an out let almost for me, you know what I mean. And
(10:01):
so, yeah, she shared it, and so I can't say that it
necessarily made like a clear transition.I think it was just one of those
things that I just did. Ialways loved to write, so when I
was a kid, I feel likeI had trouble expressing myself verbally. So
even whenever I wanted to talk tomy mom about things, I had like
(10:22):
a notebook that we would write backand forth. And so my relationship with
putting things on like paper and away to express has been there for a
long Yeah. Yeah, I wouldsay, I would say I have a
slew of them actually, And alsothe notepad on my phone is crazy too,
But yeah, I actually recently wentback to writing songs back on paper
(10:48):
and with pen or paper and pencilbecause it just feels so different than writing
it on my phone. My notesis crazy because I don't ever write,
especially when I'm rushing. Now ifI take my time, of course,
but that no pad on the phone. It saves me because when you have
an idea, you got it,Like man, I forget it. No,
(11:09):
You're so right, you know, the convenience is top tier definitely.
But there's something about like the physicalact of definitely doing this, you know
what I mean, and just likeerasing and scratching and like doing all that
stuff just hits different than like backspacebackspace. Yeah, definitely. So how's
(11:31):
road? Oh my god, it'sbeen a lot of fun. I'm not
gonna lie, like i am superover analytical, Like I'm super anxious,
and I'm always like I like tobe prepared for like doomsday, you know
what I mean. So the thoughtof having to commit to certain clothes to
pack and stuff was so I knowit sounds so trivial, but it was
(11:54):
just like, oh my gosh, like I have to have a select like
I have to fit my life inthis. And but aside from that,
it's been so much fun. Aaronis such a star, Like his confidence
and show is just amazing, andI feel honored to be a part of
that. Like it's not just likeI'm just on the road with somebody,
(12:16):
and you know what i mean,Like I'm truly a fan and I really
enjoy seeing him every night. Soit's been it's been amazing to be able
to open up for somebody so talented. What city had the best food.
Oh man, you know, Iwish I had more time to get into
that because you just out there eatingchicken when I'm telling you, I'm fucking
(12:37):
tired of Burger's already, Like,oh my god. You know what it
is. It's just because I feellike the time, the time frame is
so like, I feel like, yeah, we're gonna get better at that.
For sure. We still got along way to go. So you've
been in La mostly like you grewup mostly in La. I have a
part of Downy. That's a loadedquestion. I'll say I'm moved around what's
(13:01):
just say, Southern Cali. Wecould say that they got good Mexican food.
They do. Got to try someof the based Mexican food. Really,
is that that's a thing I wasactually gonna ask that. Yeah,
for sure, I think we gotI think we could compete with youalls.
Okay, I mean they say thatyou guys are closer to h l A.
(13:22):
I mean to Mexico. But thefirst burrito American known Burrito was started
in Frisco, San Francisco, sofast, Yeah, we got some contenders.
Man, Oh wow, Okay,I'm excited. Actually we had Mexican
food last night we did, sowe ordered I don't remember the name of
the place, but I got gotthat taco and a shrimp taco and it
(13:46):
was so good. Actually, itwas really I couldn't finish it. The
tacos were so fucking big, Likethey came in like two and on each
plate, and I'm like two,it's such like a small amount of like
that's only two tacos. So Iordered four and I'm like, that's why
there's only too in this box.But it was, it was really good.
So yeah, yeah, for sure, I say you was in Portland.
I love I love the Northwest.Yeah, the Northwest is like so
(14:09):
like scenic, so much trees,it looks like a movie esque. That's
a fact, no, because you'reso right. That's We drove to a
couple of stops throughout there, andI actually lived in Oregon for like a
year when I was young. Iknow that's a good place to write.
First of all, that's me goingback there now as an adult was so
(14:30):
crazy. And I called my stepmom and I'm like, I'm in Portland
right now, and literally all Iremember about Portland whenever I was a kid
was that it was just gray andrainy all the time. They have a
high suicide rate for that. Sorry, sorry to be Debbie down No no,
no, no no, normally it'sme. So I'm glad that it
wasn't. But I'm just I'm glad. No, but no yet, listen,
(14:56):
get you what do they have thered light therapy ball? And I
was it was wet and cold, and I was like, man, this
is this is exactly what I remember. Definitely rained the whole time. So
what you got for Oakland? Whatyou got for this bang? Man?
Because the bands like New York lA, we we want to see we
(15:18):
want to see a show, andwe appreciate it. If you go hard,
they're gonna love you. Man.You could get some fans today.
I know you already got some outhere. I love that. That's so
sweet. Thank you. I'm superexcited. I think one of the things
that I've been priding myself on istrying to give my awn no matter where
I'm at. But I did hearthat Oakland does show crazy love. So
(15:39):
I'm super excited about the show tonight. Definitely. It's like it's like when
you go to uh when athletes goto Madison Square Garden, it's like big,
it's bigger and you feel me.It's just it's just excited. And
then the New Parish is a legendaryspot. Used to be a lot of
pimps and players used to go thereback in the day a movie called The
Mac. If you don't know aboutit, they shot some of the Mac
(16:00):
in there. It was called itwasn't new paper. It's called Sweet Jimmies.
Wow. What a name. Right, I'm learning so much today.
I love it. I love itoff top off top. So uh yeah,
man, tell the people where theycould meet you at? And I
mean, you know, I guesssure. So again, my name is
(16:21):
Rosemary All one word. You canfind me on any streaming platform. My
social media handles are at lil lI l X Rosie. Yeah. That's
that's. That's that favorite. Growingup Top three cereals, Top three.
Oh you're gonna think I'm weird.I feel like growing up Raisin Brand,
(16:51):
Raisin Bran go crazy. That's soI know, a little bit of sugar.
And my mom was a big HoneySmacks fan, like Golden cris over
thing. And now I'll say I'llthrow one in now. One of my
favorites now is Honey bunches of votes. I feel like those are such old
(17:11):
lady ass series. They're very good, but it's fine, very good after
I'm going to stay true and realquick too. Before we hop off,
I just wanted to mention my newestsingle, Definitely Real, featuring my brother
Roddy Rich. I'm super proud ofthat record. The latest off of my
new EP, Rock Paper Scissors Recutis the Delex version, So yeah,
(17:33):
I'm just super excited about that.I'll be performing that tonight. That's definitely
new where on my set list.So I've been excited about that, and
yeah, thank you. So canyou talk about my bad? Can't you
talk about working with Roddy Rich realquick? Yeah? Of course. I've
known Riddy for a handful of yearsnow, and I always say I've been
lucky enough to sort of witness thethe trajectory of his career and and kind
(17:56):
of all the work leading up tohis big like catapult to success and and
all these great things that he's beenable to accomplish. But at the very
base of that, he's so insanelytalented. Yeah, you know what I
mean, And I feel like theworld has gotten to hear just a piece
(18:17):
of okay, you know what Imean. So he's so he's so musical,
and he's so creative, and hethinks about sounds in a certain way,
and he's just very thoughtful in thatway. It's it's he's he's a
he's a great talent, truthfully, and it was it was amazing. I
felt intimidated, I think because healready has all these accolades and all these
(18:40):
hit records and all these record breakingthings. And I was just like,
Okay, I got it. Igotta hold my hold my own, you
know what I mean. Thank youso much. It was funny because when
he sent me to the name isit real? I was thinking, BBLS.
I was like, is it real? That's a that's a fair assessment.
You know. I love that. It's thought provoking. It's what you're
(19:02):
sending to me, brother Joe.Hey, you know nowadays it's got to
be like, is it real?Let's see what this song is about.
