Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the WBZ book Club. I'm Jordan Rich. The
successful history of the United States as the world's leading
democracy as many important attributes, not the least of which
is our freedom to protest and resist through peaceful means
what it is we oppose. These days, protests abound, of course,
so here's a book you might consider. A Protest History
of the United States by Gloria Brown Marshall. The author

(00:21):
takes a look at individuals from all backgrounds and time
periods who helped bring about change, from the early days
of pre colonial America to those fighting for more environmental protection,
from the civil rights movement to one man's refusal to
fight in Vietnam, that man being Muhammad Ali. The key
players in all of these movements are fleshed out, and
is not to suggest by any stretch that all protests

(00:42):
ended up being successful, achieving their goals, or that many
movements have fallen off the rails. A Protest History of
the United States recently updated April of this year by
Gloria Brown Marshall. And that's the book Club. WBZ, Boston's
