With the WBZ Book Club. I'm Jordan Rich. Christmas is
made extra special here in Boston every year with a
gift of a tree. A tree that makes its way
from Halifax to the Boston Common the reason Boston played
a big part in helping the people of Halifax in
the midst of World War One. The book is called
The Great Halifax Explosion by John Bacon. Three thousand tons
of TNT are aboard a ship La mont Blanc, making

its way up the Eastern Seaboard, eluding enemy U boats.
As the ship arrived in the port city of Halifax,
a gigantic explosion erupted with the force of nearly three
kilotons of TNT outside of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the most
powerful explosion ever impacting a human population. A huge swelling
tsunami destroyed property with thousands of casualties. The world was

stunned by this disaster, but Boston came to the rescue,
sending trains and ships with doctors, medicine, and supplies. The

The Brothers Ortiz
