Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the WBZ book Club. This is Jordan Rich.
He was larger than life, old blood and guts General
George S. Patten, a World War II hero for sure,
but the mystery surrounding Patten's death in an auto accident
continued for decades. I just finished a book called The
Last Days of Patten, published over forty years ago by
the late Lattice Las Farago, and it's a day by

(00:21):
day account of what happened to Patten as the war
came to an end and he was assigned to denazify
an area of Germany under his jurisdiction. Patten, always controversial,
was a staunch opponent of the Soviet Union and believed
America would soon fight a war with Russia. He also,
in the summer and fall of nineteen forty five, appeared
to show respect to former ss Nazi officers, and many

(00:42):
believe Patten was strongly anti Semitic. Ultimately, he was removed
from active service, dying following an auto accident that the
author suggests was indeed just that. A fascinating profile of
a larger than life soldier, The Last Days of Patten
by Ladislas Farigo. That's the book Club. WBZ Boston's news
