Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the WZ Book Club. I'm Jordan Rich. Recently
caught the film version of The Railway Man starring Colin Firth,
and I decided to read the book that the movie
was based on a memoir of Eric Lomax, who, during
World War II was taken prisoner along with many of
his colleagues and forced into slave labor by his Japanese guards.
The Japanese looking to build a railway between Burma and Siam,

(00:21):
fighting PTSD for decades. After the war, Eric Lomax remarries
and with the help of his new wife, Patty, finds
the strength to confront his fears and demons, and it's
a story of forgiveness. He discovers that the interpreter present
over several years of brutal torture sessions, was still alive.
Lomax shares the story of closing a deadly chapter in

(00:43):
his life and finding the strength to offer forgiveness to
those who perpetrated the evil during the Second World War.
The Railway Man is a serious look at survival and forgiveness.
