Speaker 1 (00:00):
Bread. I am fantastic. I'm happy to be back, even
though getting up at five thirty isn't that easy all
the time. But hey, and I will say something to you.
You and I need to take a week off once
a while. Look what the market did? I know I couldn't.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
We had a great week. I great week. We rebounded, and.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
I paid no attention to it during the week. I
didn't even look at it. I looked at it yesterday
afternoon for the first time, and I saw the headline.
Stocks rise for a fifth straight day, closing on a
follow till month.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
But you know what, we made.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
It through and even the year today, stuff still looks
pretty good.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Give us a rundown, Yeah, you bet you. The Dow
was up two hundred and eighty nine points on Friday,
which is point six one percent. The five day is
up two point seventy three. Although we meet it on
the Dow a little bit positive for the month s
a P five hundred, up thirty six and a half points,
which is a half percent, and for the five days

(00:58):
it's up two point one and it's a little bit
positive for the month.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Then the NASAC was up one hundred and fifty one points,
which is point sixty five of percent. The five day
is up five point eighty three, just a little negative
for the month, but overall you're right. Year to date,
I'll recap that because we're in the last month of
the year starting today, happy December. The Dow is up
twelve point one six year to date, the S and

(01:24):
P five hundred is up sixteen point four or five
year to date, and the Nazak is up twenty one
percent date. Yeah. Yeah, I'll take that all day long.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Now, we normally slow down in December two with the
holidays and everything, Guys taking time more off and all
that stuff. Is there a cyclical thing we should be
watching for.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Well, like I said, we should all take some time
off if.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
We had the market do what it did last week.
But normally we tend to get a little pop on
a Christmas rally. But they're already.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Warning us right now.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I just read article. The people say it on the
news already today that we don't know about this Christmas rally.
Be careful out there because of the volatility. We know
text run up, and that's what people are concerned with
is did it go up too fast?

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I mean, shoot, it's been running two and.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
A half years here. But we had na video, the
big the big one.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
On the I Guess on the bus and the Vidio lost.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
One point eight percent. Friday, we had Talenteer thank sixteen percent.
Oracle fell twenty three. So that's some of the big
tech that was pulling back.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
What we're also watching is not this.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Week, but next week we're gonna have the FED coming out.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
There's an eighty seven percent chance that.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
They'll cut rates again and that will stimulate the economy.
And they're all, well, you know, they're all getting there.
You know there, you know what's in a bunch here? Gosh,
that could cause inflation. Every time they turnround.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
They tell us it's going to cause implition.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
It's under three right now. It's not exactly at two.
It's closer to three. But let's try something a little different.
We need we need things to come down in price
a little bit. You know, gas is cooperating, but other
things are not. Or we need incomes to come up,
and the problem is people. The companies are starting to
lay more people off.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
That's not going to help with incomes.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
So we need something different to happen.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Macy's fell point.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Three of a percent, but Cole's gained one point four.
We're talking about these companies because we just you.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Know, we all went shopping Friday.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Dick's Sporting Goods they dropped point, you know, zero point
five percent, Abercrombie rose two point nine, American Ego game
point seven. But again, to make up those losses from
these big tech companies, it's tough to get these uh
scale everything moving. But that's where we're appring now. The
interest rate on the ten year is sitting at four

(03:52):
point zero four and the two years sitting at three
point or nine. And I mentioned gas, and boy, I
didn't see it this low this weekend.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah, Ohio two point sixty.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Four cents the average in Ohio.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Well that's the average.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
And I passed.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
I passed a couple of places that were over three
dollars and I had to look twice because I thought, oh,
that's probably diesel. And when I looked at the sign, no,
it wasn't diesel. It was three bucks and it was regular.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yeah, yeah, diesel sitting at three dollars and seventy three cents. Again,
I'm the kiss of death on that. As soon as
I talk about it.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
It usually goes up. You know, I would like it
below three seventy please.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
We all was it's gone, it's going down. But you know, again,
the season's changed, the gas mix changes, There's a whole
bunch of stuff that goes on with all of that.
So you got to go with the average. That's what
everybody basis is the average. So I'm fine with that.
And grocery prices are up. Yeah, you could get a

(04:55):
turkey for ninety nine cents a pound. Uh, but you know,
everything else that you had to to go along with it.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
All up, you know.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
So the cost of Thanksgiving dinner was very expensive for
a lot of people. And I think a lot of
people are going to be shopping today. It is Cyber Monday,
after all. Yep, Cyber Monday, so a lot of people
be online looking for special prices, and boy, they're out there.
And my email is full of offers from all of
the places like eBay and Amazon and everybody else is

(05:25):
selling something. Anybody I ever bought anything from kept my
email and sent me an email this morning, Hey we
got ten percent off. So yeah, cyber Monday is going
to be a Cyber Monday is going to be a blast.
Is there anything today that we need to keep an
eye out on.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Yeah, we have manufacturing numbers coming out this morning at
nine ten o'clock. But we have the bed Chairman, Drome Powell.
He's going to speak tonight at eight pm. Wet's see
what he has to say later tonight.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
All right, excellent, We'll talk to you again tomorrow morning.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
