Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is the iHeartRadio high School Football Playoff preview show.
I'll look at teams in the Cioto Valley that are
headed to the high school playoffs. Now here's your host,
Lou Postage and Dewey Daily.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Along with Lou Postage, my name is Dewey Daily. As
we will come you into this evening's broadcast, Lou glad
to have you here in the studio, talk about a
few of our teams heading on to week eleven and
hopefully a little bit beyond. Obviously we have you and
Yoda guaranteed to buy in week twelve, but hopefully some
of these teams here in week eleven can join you
and Yoda next week as well.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
This is a great time a year in high school sports,
a lot of regional sports and other sports as well,
but it comes down to football and you play ten
weeks and when you get to go on to week eleven,
that's something special. When all these teams are excited for that,
and I know you know on our end, it was
a great football season. You love going out and doing
all the games, and I'm sure it was the same

(00:56):
for you. And you've got to see a lot of
playoff teams that are going to make it in southeastern Ohio.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
And we'll start talking about that in a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
As you were obviously mentioning Chillicothe, eight of their ten
regular season opponents end up making the playoffs in various divisions.
Obviously three through six is where those teams span throughout
their schedule. Before we have our first coach, Colin lew
I did want to ask you a question. Obviously, this
is the first year of the new format. They go
to twelve teams, so you eliminate thirteen through sixteen, but

(01:27):
those top four get a bye. Obviously, there was a
lot of heavy and mixed opinions when it went to sixteen.
What are your feelings now that it's at twelve and
those top.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Four get a buy.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Well, I'm sure there's a lot of opinions out there
for teams that are thirteen through sixteen right now. But
you know, it's something special in football to make the playoffs,
and you know, I think you really earn it when
there's twelve.

Speaker 4 (01:52):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
I get the idea that you want to have as
many teams as possible in the playoffs, but football it's
really not feasible to have the season go further into December,
just because the amount of spaces that you can have
to play games. So that being said, I think twelve
is a good number. Now the buy system, this is

(02:15):
the first time we've seen this in high school football.
It'll be interesting to see how coaches handle having a
buy at this time of the year. And we're gonna
talk to one of those coaches later on with Coach
Hoops out of Unioto. But you know, it'll be interesting
to see how that all works out in talking to
some other coaches around the state. With that idea, it's

(02:36):
all about trying to keep continuity, keeping the kids going,
keeping the competitive, keeping their heads in the game on
this by week.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
And obviously the schedule for us here tonight. The four
teams we're gonna talk to. We're gonna talk to TJ.
Carpara at Chillicothe. He set to call in in about
three minutes, and then we'll talk to Jay Shared at
a Circle Bill. They've had their most winning season since
twenty thirteen, so that two time state champion head coach
comes in back to his alma mater and good things

(03:06):
are happening in Circleville. And then we'll wrap it up
talking to Dylan Wirers at his ame Trace and then
later on Matt hoops out of you and Yoda. Now, Lou,
obviously you spend the year covering different teams every week,
whereas you know, I'm obviously covering Chillicothe against whoever they're
playing every week. I did want to ask, maybe what
was your favorite game or favorite moment, favorite takeaway from

(03:28):
the SVC regular season in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
A lot of fabulous athletes throughout the SVC, But I
think the game itself was the game we did Circleville
at Westfall, went into overtime, just to see the excitement
on both of those communities during that game. Again, you
are already mentioned it, Jay Sheridan, Circleville coming back in
Alumnus of Circleville. That was a phenomenal atmosphere and both

(03:57):
those teams played hard and at the end shook hands
and both held their heads high. Both of them had
a great season. We ended up seeing Westfall at the
end of the season at Unioda and they gave Union
all they wanted. So I think to me, that was
the game that we did that I enjoyed the most.
And again not to put any of the other games down,

(04:17):
a lot of great atmospheres and a lot of great
athletes throughout the SVC.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
I think one of the interesting things when you look
at the middle of the pack in the SVC, you
had Piked, and you had west Full and you had Huntington.
They all end up beating each other and kind of
ended up keeping all three of them out of the
playoffs just based on how everything worked out. They all
ended up six and four and I believe three or
excuse me, I think they were all six and four,
four and three in conference place, so they've really all

(04:43):
just kept each other at a week eleven.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Yeah, I think at the top obviously Unio and Zaid
Trace were their strength, but those three teams right next
to them all gave those teams all they wanted in
that And yeah, I mean, great season by Huntington they
win six games for the first time in a while.
Great season by Piked in it seems like Tyler Gallion
does a great job down there, and it happens every year,

(05:08):
and then again out at West Fall. Just fantastic running
backs out there, and you know they played hard throughout
the year.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
You mentioned the running backs at West Fall.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Kind of the modern day birthplace of aviation out there,
they had their right brothers and obviously they had a
really good season as well. They go again six and four,
four and three in conference, playing another team that had
an outstanding year this year was Chilicothy. Last couple of
years they go two and eight, one and nine, they
were able to go six and four this year. They
land the number nine seed going into Week eleven, they

(05:41):
really thought they were gonna have a home playoff game,
but a big win in Week ten for Archbishop McNicholas
over Baden propelled the Rockets up to that eight seed
and at bumped Chilicothy down to nine, So kind of
an unfortunate circumstance. It would have been Chilicothy's first home
playoff game since two thousand and eight, but instead they're
going to go on the road for the second consecutive

(06:01):
time making the playoffs to Cincinnati and take on a
McNicholas team that seems to be playing some of their
best football at the end of the season.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
And again a team who has played a really tough schedule.
We talked about Chillicothe schedule in their eight teams that
made the playoffs, but you look at McNicholas. They played Ironton,
they played Wheelersburg, they played Hamilton Baden. Again, all really
strong teams here are in the.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
State of Ohio.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
So again it's going to be a tall task to
go down there into Cincinnati. Anytime you go into the
Cincinnati area, boy, that's a heck of an atmosphere. I
know when my son was playing at Chillicothe, they went
down and played Cincinnati witting Woods, and boy, that was
just a tremendous facility they had down there. And also

(06:49):
just a great team that went Woods had in Chillicothe
was really good at that time as well. But you know,
just a really unbelievable atmosphere you get down at Cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
I mean you just talk about, you know, the Molders
of the world, some of those schools down there. It's
certainly a hot spot for you know, not just high
school football, but really all high school sports. There's been
a lot of talent to come out of the greater
Cincinnati area. And you know, for me personally, that's where
my high school football career ended was at Archbishop McNicholas
at Penn Station Stadium. It's an outstanding facility and you know,

(07:25):
like you said, it's right on the east edge of Cincinnati,
and you know it's it's a school that it's very prideful.
The one thing I will say about Archbishop McNicholas is
there's only seating on one side, So if there was
ever some chippiness, you know, that could obviously call some
call some problems. But yeah, it's an outstanding facility. And
I think if you're going to go on the road
and if you're going to drive all the way to Cincinnati,

(07:47):
that's probably the place you want to play at.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
I remember I think Cincinnati Reading they have only seating
on one side too, and it was all uh cement
and people brought chairs and things like that. So uh yeah,
really unique atmosphere in that part of the state. In
But you know, it's an exciting time as we wait
here on coach to call in here and talk about
this matchup. It is exciting times. Chillicothe, I think at

(08:12):
the beginning of the year was hoping to get into playoffs,
and you know, they really put together a solid season
and to be able to get to the spot where
they are.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
And we mentioned at the top of the broadcast eight
of their ten opponents in the regular season with playoff
berths heading into Week eleven, including five of the six
in the FAC you have. Jackson is the number four
seed in all five of the teams. I believe Division
three Region twelve is where they all fall. And Jackson
draws the four seed, they'll have the buy Miami Trace

(08:42):
draws the five, they'll play the twelve, which is the
other FAC team in Hillsboro. So there's going to be
back to back FAC matchups in weeks eleven and twelve
because the winner that Miami Trace Hillsborough want is just
going to go down to Alumni Stadium and have a
second matchup with Jackson.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yeah, it's almost like a home and home during the
year because I think Hillsboro or Miami Trace played at
Hillsborough and Jackson had to come up to Miami Trace,
So those things will all be reversed, so sort of
like a little home and home when you get in
the football season. I know in basketball, we always talked
about it's tough to beat a team three times. In football,
you know, it's tough to beat a team twice, especially

(09:19):
when they know all your tendencies.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
And it's funny you bring that up. Luke is going
back to Chilicothy. The last time they made the playoffs
was the twenty twenty two season. They beat London in
the regular season and then come playoff time, same story.
Didn't quite go the same way at Bowlus Field up
in Madison County. So yeah, Chillicothy with their first playoff
berth since twenty twenty two. Again, they'd only won three

(09:44):
games over the last couple of seasons, So a great
year for the Cavs under first year head coach TJ.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Carper.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
And if something we talked about before we've gone on air,
and between his years at Vinton County is one year,
last year at Lancaster and now his first year here
at chillicothe Five years as a head coach, he's made
the playoffs four times.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
That's a pretty good run. And obviously at vin County
he did a great job, and I know he wanted
to get back in the area and you know, this
Chilicothee job opening up was the ideal fit for.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Him, absolutely, and you know, going up to Lancaster then
coming back to Chillicothee, one of the things he talked
about was, you know, he was surrounded by family and
maybe that wasn't the case up in Lancaster. Maybe a
more comfortable setting makes it a lot easier to lead
a football team, and that's certainly something coach Carper has
done very well this season.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
So again, the calves on the road Friday night, and
I know do you guys will have that on wb
e X, And I think the game times is still
at seven o'clock, so you guys normally take there about
six forty five.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
Is that correct?

Speaker 5 (10:46):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (10:47):
All right, so we'll take a quick break and we'll
come back for the preview show. Here you're listening to
the Accurate Heating and Clean and Plumbing Playoff preview show
on w b.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
E X, and we welcome you back to the Accurate Heating,
Cooling and Plumbing Football Playoff preview show here on ninety
two point seven WB e X. Dewey Daily along with
Lou postage for this afternoon's broadcast. Lou, we just got
done talking about some Chillicothe and FAC football. We talked
about some of our favorite moments throughout this season. But

(11:21):
it looks like now we're going to shift things up
north to the Mid State League and talk a little
bit of Circleville Tiger football. The Tigers draw the number.
I believe the number eight seed is what they drew
in the D four Region fifteen tournament. They're gonna host
Filo this Friday night.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
And that was seed seven seven seven, sorry.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Seven to ten correct posting the Filo electrics one of
the cooler mascots in southern Ohio. And it should be
a great matchup for Circle Bill as they make their
return to the postseason.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Yeah, and again. Circleville with a great season this year,
going three and three in their league, but man league
was stacked. They have five teams in the playoffs this year.
And you know, first year head coach. I kid him
all the time about being a first year head coach,
well seasoned. The head coach is what I'll call him,
Circleville coach Jay Sharett. And I believe we got Circleville

(12:15):
coach Jay Sharett on the phone now.

Speaker 6 (12:18):
Yes, I am here, lou Well, Jay.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
I appreciate you calling in, and uh, before we get
started talking about the playoffs, what I do want to
talk about is your big win in Week ten at
Bloom Carroll. That win propelled you into a home game
in week eleven. How or talk about that win first,
and then I'm going to ask you a secondary question there.

Speaker 6 (12:39):
Well, I think that win was a combination of the
nine weeks before because win or lose, and we did
both this season. Uh, we tried to learn from it,
not just a big team, but a coach of staff
is the first time his coaching staff's been together, and
I think, uh, just moving forward and just doing kind
of football school one on one and some of our

(12:59):
practice and keep it ahead in the right way. And
and you know, and I think it was a situation
there whinning week ten where our guys really had the
feet on the ground. They really knew the game plan,
they understood what was what was on the line, because
you know, Circle Bowl hasn't been a real playoff contender
here the last couple of years, and they knew everything
was on the line. And you know, obviously they had

(13:22):
never beaten bloom Carrow most of this guy's high school career.
And I think we went up there, came out fast,
and and you know, kind of got them off their
feet and kind of got him unsettled and finished a
great second half and then won the ball game.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Well, coach, with that win, as I said, it propelled
you to a home game now again first year at Circleville,
but you have been in the playoffs for many years.
Talk about how how important it is to be able
to play a home game in the first weekend the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (13:53):
Oh, it's I mean, for one thing, you know, the
student body, of the student section of the community, everything
kind of now around it. But I think for our guys,
I mean for us to host the first round playoff
game and and go into week eleven, and people who
have been around high school football know that just the
next week of practice.

Speaker 5 (14:13):
Means everything to the team.

Speaker 6 (14:15):
And even if you're maybe a freshman sophomore playing on
special teams or or you know, running scout team.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
You're still doing football.

Speaker 6 (14:21):
And then you know, it couldn't be happier for our seniors.
But you know what, we we knew that game bloom
Carell was a pivotal game for us. There was a
chance we might still sneak in if we dropped that
ball game. But they really wanted to win that game,
and they knew we'd had a pretty good chance to
host in the first round and couldn't be happy is
the way they played. And one thing I think that's

(14:41):
kind of been advantageous for us.

Speaker 5 (14:43):
We kind of went.

Speaker 6 (14:43):
Into that game like it was a playoff game. So
they almost feel like they got a playoff win under
their belt. And and you know that way, you know,
when they get this big game atmosphere this Friday, they'll
be ready for it and absorb that energy and hopefully
play well.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
And coach, talk about your league. You're league gets five
teams in the playoffs, and just playing the league schedule
you did, it's got to help you prepare for playoffs.

Speaker 6 (15:08):
Yeah, I mean these the coach of the ministin league.
I mean, it's it's been been great meeting all the
head coaches and and uh, you know, when you go
into uh with a new staff and the new league
and teams you've never played before every week sometimes still
like a brand new season, and uh, you know, and
then when you play these teams that are very well coached.
Many of these teams that you play, these kids are

(15:31):
program kids.

Speaker 5 (15:31):
They've been doing it since they've been in fifth grade.

Speaker 6 (15:33):
They know their offense and defense inside and out. And uh,
you know, we're not quite there yet, but hopefully we're
heading in that direction. But you know, I think the
league has prepared us with some of the games we won,
some of the games we lost, but I think we're
peaking at the right time. We've we were just commenting,
we've had everybody, uh dressed.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
For week one.

Speaker 6 (15:54):
They dressed for Week ten against Boone Carroll, so we're
gonna have everybody that do.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
He's going to ask you a question here.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Yeah, coaches, Dewey Daily talking to you, obviously, congrats, congrats
on the season hosting a playoff game. One of the
things that I liked that you said was, you know,
your emphasis on hosting a playoff game and just how
important that is. One of the preseason quotes I read
up from quarterback Hudson Falan was him just saying, it's
awesome to have somebody in the locker room from Circleville

(16:22):
who you know, cares about the community as much as
we do as players. You know, obviously playing at home
means something a little different now than maybe it did
in the past for you.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
How does it feel to be back.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
At Circleville and you know, lead them to one of
their better seasons they've had in the last decade.

Speaker 5 (16:39):
Become very close with us in our quarterback.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
Your your opponents, the Philo Electrics, talk a little bit
about them and what you know about them so far.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
Holy Kaledo.

Speaker 7 (16:51):
I mean, this is one of the biggest high school
teams I've ever seen. I mean, they've got a guy
sixty seven, some guys five the boards. I mean, they
have some really tall timber and that's going to present
some real tough matchups for us. Uh, not just the
line to some of the skill kids. That's got some
really good hikes and and you can tell these guys

(17:11):
have been in the weight room and they spent some
time there, and you know, they've been in the playoffs,
you know, many many times so and and that's one
of the reason why I think that Bloom Croll win.
It was kind of like a playoff atmosphere, the playoffs atmosphere.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
For us in a must win situation and that you.

Speaker 7 (17:27):
Know, of course, obviously in the playoffs they all must
win and there's no next week. And our guys have
really adapted that that mindset. And you know, for us
to host this firstman on playoff game, and you know,
if we could play a good ballgame and win the game,
I think it'd be a lot for a program and
think would be great for our team and great for
uh the community and.

Speaker 6 (17:46):
A student body, and and.

Speaker 7 (17:48):
Uh, I know we're gonna put a tough ball game
together and and and and play it on Friday and
hopefully if it takes us out on top, we'll go
another week.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Well, coach, we wish you all the best on Friday night.
And one other thing, coach, you know how I I
just recently retired. One of my highlights so far was
I was able to go to the Circleville Pumpkin Show
during the day and that was a really big highlight
for me.

Speaker 7 (18:15):
Yeah, that was I mean when I lived here, I
love the Pumpkin Show. I loved it because it was
during football season. We practiced in the morning, go to
the punkin Show in the afternoon. And it's so neat
to hear our guys talk about it because I look
at him sometimes like looking at myself foty years ago
with my friends when when we went to the Pumpkin
Show and I'm glad you got to do a little
daytime steth sivy there at the Pumpkin Show. But sometimes it's.

Speaker 6 (18:40):
Hard to kind of keep your guys on track during
the Pumpkin Show week. But these guys did a great job.
And then, like I said, then it was just we
got to win that week, and then we headed.

Speaker 7 (18:50):
In against Bloom Carrol and and I said, we're going
to take on Filo and we're just gonna hold the
reins loose unless these guys play football and enjoy.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
The night if we come out to win, well coach,
always good to talk to you, and again best luck
on Friday.

Speaker 7 (19:05):
All right, joy retire, thank.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
You, there you go.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
I've got a little while before somebody says that to.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Yeah. I mean, it's a Filo team that they're six
and four, three and three out of the MVL, similar
to Circleville. They started the year five and one, one
and three over their last four But you know, I
think that's a testament of who they've been playing more
so than the quality of football they've been playing. But yeah,
it's a circle ball team that it's obviously playing some
of their best football as of late. And what an

(19:34):
exciting time it is to be a circle ball Tiger.
You have your football team going to the playoffs, you
have your volleyball team in the regional tournament this Thursday
against London, So you know, it's exciting time in the
fall sports season at Circleville.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
It sure is.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
And I think we're going to go ahead and change
gears in talk about our game, the w KKK I'm
sorry w kk J game, which is going to be
a Zane tre at Lucasville Valley and unfortunately I'm not
gonna be able to make it, but my son Chris
and my son Trey will be doing all the play

(20:09):
by play come Friday night. And that game is is
a really you know, you look on paper, there are
almost identical teams and they both really like to run
the ball, and they're very good at it and solid
defenses as well, a very athletic, very quick. So I

(20:29):
think we have now coach Dylan Weirs on the phone
from Zane Trace.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
Coach, are you there? Yeah, yeah, all right, coach.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Well, thanks for calling in and appreciate you taking some
time here tonight.

Speaker 5 (20:42):
Coach.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
As you look at your schedule, your only two losses
come to playoff teams Amanda and Uniota this year, one
of the things I want to talk about is when
you look and you're going forward in the playoffs, you know,
do you take things from those games and really learn
from them as you move forward?

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (21:02):
Absolutely, I mean when Dan losses, we both you know,
learn things from both of them, I would I would
say especially you kind of use it as a baseline.
We kind of talked about our goals as the team
and you know, like what we want to accomplish, and
it's not just winning games, but you know, winning against
good teams and competitive games. So we you know, compare

(21:25):
things what we think they're going to be like in
this game and kind of help them some things are
going to go with comparing them to other playoff caliber teams.

Speaker 5 (21:34):
That we played throughout the year.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Well, I coach, as you move forward on Friday, you
know you look at some of the things, like, you know,
you go two years ago, you were able to play
some games at home. Last year you had to go
on the road. So many of these kids as juniors
that are seniors now played a road playoff game. Do
you take what you look you know from last year

(21:55):
to this year, Hey, this is how playoff games on
the road are going to be.

Speaker 9 (22:01):
Yes.

Speaker 8 (22:02):
We have actually talked about that quite a bit this
week and just kind of the experience that especially our
juniors but also are not junior seniors and then also
juniors have had you know four years now being a
part of playoff football sometimes two games at least one
every single year. Luckily this year and last year it
was a major learning experience, going over two hours bus

(22:25):
trip down to Procterville. Last year a little bit more fortunate,
issue was just around a forty five minute bus.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Right, coaches is Dewey daily talking to you. Obviously, you
know your team won six of their last seven games,
and over that seven game stretch, you guys were only
giving up an average of seven and a half points
per game, including holding you and Yoda to their season
low of nineteen points. Just talk a little bit about
your team and how they've played defensively over the last

(22:51):
half of the season.

Speaker 8 (22:53):
Yeah, first would be just us with some really good
players that are easy to have a good defense with
with just uh, you know, their overall athletic ability and
and and genetic talent and stuff like that. So that
that's the first thing, is just just having you know,
some good talented players. But uh, next thing is this
year is kind of taking a step up on defense.

(23:14):
I think has been a lot of it just the
player's mindset, and we've really just been preaching that. You know,
it's it's like, our our goal is to not let
the other team score and the kids when when you
first say that, they're just like, what do you mean
you don't want to score? It all like that, Like
that's the goal every single game. And obviously we know
sometimes you know teams are going to score, and they
get that and they don't get down and.

Speaker 9 (23:35):
Teams do score.

Speaker 8 (23:36):
But that's that's the goal in mindset the kids have
going in and they really kind of adopted that ring
with it and done a great job at it. I
think that this year we've done a really good job
also playing complimentary football, uh and offensively not putting our
defense in bad situations and also playing some pretty good
special teams that also keeps our defense out of being

(23:57):
in bad situation.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
And coaches loum And at the top of this segment,
very similar offensive place saw to you guys, right, a
run focused offense. What have you seen on film here
early in the week from Valley? Obviously at number twenty two,
Anthony Aaron one of the more shifty running backs in
our area. I believe he nearly went over one thousand
yards last year in about six or seven games. So

(24:19):
what have you seen early on on film from Valley?

Speaker 9 (24:23):
Yeah, so I'm not sure if everyone's aware of this.

Speaker 8 (24:25):
But we've actually had Valley's been our first scrimmage for
the last couple of years or since I've got there,
and even before, so we're very familiar with kind of
their play style and some of their players, and you know,
we see them for the very first team. They're the
first team we see. The start is year twenty two
is a really good back. He had some really nice
runs with us against the scrimmage. Thirty three has done

(24:48):
some really nice things against us now for the last
three years. And then going in a quarterback, they've had
two different guys playing quarterback, both to have their strengths
that you got to prepare for both them. Number one
a really good runner and athletic runner as well, and
then they just got you know, some some big, strong,
physical offense and the defensive lindments that do well as

(25:08):
well well.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Coach, you know, we appreciate you coming on here tonight
and talking a little bit about the game. And I
know w or w KKJ will be there doing the
game on Friday night. It'll be my two sons, Trey
and Chris in the press box storing to play by play. Unfortunately,
I'm living that retirement life, and I'm going on another trip.

Speaker 8 (25:33):
Good for you, None of us blame you, all.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Right, Coach, Well, best luck on Friday and hopefully we'll
see you in the week twelve.

Speaker 8 (25:41):
I appreciate it, guys, thanks for taking the time to talk.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
All right, So.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
Coach Dylan Ware is from Zane Trace, talk about that
Week twelve. The winner of the Valley game in Zane
Trace will be going on the road in Week twelve
to Columbus Academy, who has a pretty solid team. And again,
making that trip up to Columbus will be a tough
task for either one of them.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
And it wouldn't be the first time an SVC team
in Week twelve would match up with Columbus Academy. You
look back to I think it's twenty twenty one that
really good Piked in group with Lee by Gully and
they beat Kayshockton in Week eleven and then they get
Columbus acadam Academy in Week twelve, a game that coach
Tyler Golan probably thinks about from time to time, as
my dad and I broadcasted that one, and it really

(26:27):
felt like piked and had some chances to win that game.
So Like we said, we obviously have a guaranteed team
to play in week twelve, that's you and Yoda, but
hopefully some of these other teams Circleville at Chilicothe and
Zane Trace Down and Lucasville can join them in week twelve.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
Yeah, and depending on how all these games play out,
we're going to try to keep having games on both
WBEX and WKKJ. So look for our schedules as we
go into week twelve and see what game we'll be covering.
As we will be covering some games, so we'll take
a quick break see if we can't get at least

(27:01):
one more coach on here talk about the playoffs. You're
listening to the high school football Playoff preview on wb
e X, sponsored by the Accurate Heating, Cooling and Plumbing, and.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
We welcome you back to the Accurate Heating, Cooling and
Plumbing Football Playoff preview show here on ninety two point
seven wb e X along with Lou Postage. My name
is Dewey Daily, as we welcome you back into this
evening's broadcast.

Speaker 4 (27:28):
Re Loo.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
We just got done talking with Zane Trace head coach
Dylan Wiers. They're on the road in lucasfil coming up
this Friday at Valley. It should be, you know, for
your two boys, probably in terms of real time, a
fairly quick game. Is again both teams like to run
it and certainly if either team is able to jump
ahead of score too, it's going to make playing from
behind very tough. Is very efficient run games on both

(27:51):
sides with the likes of Saint Tracey's, Bryce Johnson and
you know we mentioned Anthony Aaron and Gabe McNeil for
the Valley Indians, but it should be one of the
more competitive games locally in week eleven.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
Yeah, and I think it may come down to whether
it be a kickoff return, a field goal attempt, or
maybe even an interception that is going to be the
big thing in a game like that, just because they're
so similar and you know, one big play here there
are really going to change things around. So that is

(28:22):
one SVCs team that we have in the playoffs. Another one,
as we already mentioned, that is going to go into
week twelve is going to be the Uniodo Sherman's and
I believe we have coach Matt Hoops on the phone now, coach,
are you there?

Speaker 4 (28:38):
I'm there, all right, coach.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
So, when you and I talked on Friday night before
the game, we had talked about this possibility of this
buy and I asked you that throughout the year. Well
it has happened, and I think you got a little
help from actually the whole Ironton scenario, will call it,
or however you want to refer to that that got

(29:00):
you into this buy. First of all, let's just talk
about it. What are your thoughts on having a week
off now?

Speaker 9 (29:08):
Well, I can tell you this, after the first offensive
play on Friday night, I was praying for a buyeh.
You know, obviously with Cody going down and that being
so uncertain, you know, it's very beneficial to us.

Speaker 8 (29:23):
Now.

Speaker 9 (29:24):
I think if we could have gone in healthy, we
would have liked to have played this week. But now
that we've kind of gotten into the week so far
and with all the different circumstances that we're dealing with,
I think this is a good thing for us. And
you know, we're just we're just kind of working our
way through it because it's kind of uncharted, new new
territory for us.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Well, so, coach, talk about you talk about being in
this bye week, What are the plans or what have
you done to sort of keep your team engaged during
this time period.

Speaker 9 (29:58):
Well, I think the goal anytime you you know, you're
playing in the postseason is to go in as healthy
as possible. So you know, I kind of broke it down,
and our staff broke it down, you know, and kind
of different pockets. Like So we played Friday night and
then we gave them Saturday, Sunday, Monday off, so that
was three days off that they had.

Speaker 5 (30:18):
Now we'll go.

Speaker 9 (30:19):
Hard for the next three days and then give them Friday, Saturday,
Sunday off next weekend, and then we'll meet Sunday night
because obviously then we'll we'll we'll have an opponent, and
then we'll just proceed with.

Speaker 5 (30:33):
A normal game week.

Speaker 9 (30:34):
Talked to a couple of different coaches, talk to a
couple of different college coaches on how they handle by weeks.
And you know, if O High State does it this way,
I think it would be okay. If you knewed to
it this way too.

Speaker 4 (30:49):
Coach, this is Dewey talking to you. How you doing tonight?

Speaker 9 (30:52):
Going well?

Speaker 2 (30:53):
So obviously you know you know as well as I do.
First ten and oh season in school history. You have
three consecutive seven to zero unbeaten gold ball seasons in
the SVC, and I believe the conference win total is
now up to twenty four if I'm not mistaken. So
a great couple, excuse me, a great few years for
you and Jote as you guys get a buy in

(31:14):
the first year of the twelve year format. Similar to
Zane Trace, I wanted to talk about what you guys
have been able to do defensively given up an average
of four points per game, and you know, you were
very sound defensively last year, but the points per game
total was still up around ten or eleven. So what
has changed this year defensively for you guys? And you know,
allowed you guys to have an average point differential of

(31:36):
forty two points per game through the first ten weeks
of the season.

Speaker 9 (31:40):
You know, honestly, you know, dou, I think, you know,
this is a really good defense, and I think last
year was a really good defense too, And no disrespect
to the teams that are on our schedule, but you know,
as well as I do, high school football cycles through
and you know, let's be honest, our first three games
of the season was probably exception of Portsmouth, you know,

(32:00):
Waverley and Vent County are a much more formidable opponent
and they just happen to have, you know, one of
those down, down cycled years. So I think that played
a little bit of an impact on the points per
games total, to be honest with you, because usually, you know,
when we play vent County and we play teams like Waverley,
they're not going to score you know, six and eight

(32:22):
points like they did this year. So I think that
your schedule plays a little bit into it. But just
focusing more on our guys. You've got a lot of
guys on the defense that have played for three years
and started at least two or three years, so they're
very comfortable in it, and that allows them to kind
of play free and fast and speed kills. And I

(32:45):
think that we were, you know, fairly fast at the
majority of our positions, and we were able to really
just swarm the football, get eight, nine, ten hats to
the football on every play and make it really difficult. Now,
the defensive part of it, obviously, you know, you get
three downs to stop them, but what played a huge
role into that was our special teams. You know, I've

(33:06):
remembered the city. If I didn't talk about Liam Matthew
and I can't remember the number of touch it was
over twenty. I mean the amount of times he kicked off.
He had twenty over twenty touchbacks. So for a high
school team to had to drive at eighty rs on
a pretty experienced defense, I think all of that plays
into the equation of only allowing four points a game. So,
I mean the schedule somewhat. You know who benefited from,

(33:30):
you know, having experience on that side of the ball,
and then the special teams setting our defense up.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
And coach you mentioned some of those two in three
year guys that you've had over your tenure here in
the last three or four years. You know, the likes
of Cody Braid now the all time leader in career
touchdowns with forty five in county. Even David Long, I
believe is now the all time leader in tackle tackles
with three hundred and fourteen, and that obviously that number
will increase come week twelve. What can you talk about

(33:57):
this senior class you have this year and really how
you've seen them grow from when they were freshmen and
sophomore a couple of years ago all the way up
until this season.

Speaker 9 (34:06):
Well, I think the number one thing is there are
a lot of them. They are eighteen of them, and
when you can get to a senior year and keep
those guys eighteen, I always say twenty of the goal
for every class. We've get to do that. They were
getting close, but we've got eighteen seniors that most of
them have been a part of it for four years.
And you got to think when they came in as freshman,
you know that team went nine and one also and

(34:26):
probably came up a yard short of going ten and zero.
So they and they've done a lot of winning, and
they've been around winning and they've seen what winning looks like,
not just on Friday nights. But you know, the guys
that came before them, you know, football was important and
they worked extremely hard, and I think that this class
has just kind of seen that and taking that identity

(34:49):
on themselves and maybe even taking it a step further.
It's a very unselfish group. Like I said, there's eighteen
of them. There are a lot of really really good
players in it, but the most important thing to them
is winning. And over their four year career, they were
twenty seven to one in the SEC and something like
what thirty six and four overall, I think some thirty

(35:12):
seven and three and four years of high school football.
So winning is very important. How we get to that win,
it doesn't really matter to them as long as we win.
So just a great group of guys and probably even
just better young men off the field than they are
football players, and they're really good football players and.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
Coach with the buye, you guys will have either Columbus
East or Canton South come week twelve. Have you watched
any film on either of those teams? Do you plan
on headed up to Franklin County this Friday? What are
your plans with your extra week off?

Speaker 9 (35:48):
Yeah, we've watched a lot of film on both teams.
Both teams do a lot of really good things, some
similarities between them and some things that you know, one
team may do a bit different, but it's all stuff
we've seen.

Speaker 5 (36:03):
You know.

Speaker 9 (36:03):
That's kind of the difficult thing is you have two
weeks to prepare, but you don't know who you're preparing
for until the second week. So we we've kind of
just taken bits and pieces of what both of them do,
which are things that we need to improve on anyway,
and then try to improve some of our weaknesses, you know,
at least through this first night, in this first three
days of practice, that we'll have basically sure some things

(36:25):
up on our end, and then put a game plan
together for exactly who we're going to play, give that
to the guys Sunday night, and then hit the ground
running on Monday.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
Well, coach, are you playing to use some basketball background
here and maybe doing some old school scouting where you
actually go and see him in person on Friday?

Speaker 9 (36:45):
Yeah, that's the plan, And in fact, that's funny. When
we had our team meeting the day before practice, we
mentioned to the team, you know, now we're down to
the part of the season where it's win or go home,
So some roles may change a little bit on our team, uh,
in terms of like playing specific matchups for speciecific downs
and some things that you don't really normally have to

(37:08):
do throughout the regular season because you know, you're pretty
familiar with the with the teams that you're playing, you know,
in the conference, you know, uh, and even in non conference.
You know, you played these guys for so many years
that you're really familiar. But now it's about getting your
best eleven matchups against their best eleven and not not
allowing them to maybe exploit some weaknesses that we may have.

(37:29):
So yeah, I want to I want to see them
on person because seeing them in person is always always
much different than seeing them on film. You know, you
get one take on film and then and then they
show up and they're way bigger, they're way faster, you know,
and it's it's it is what it is. And I'll
be honest. Last year, we were warming up and I

(37:51):
look down and I see West Holmes offensive line warming up,
and I thought, oh, my goodness, they traded the dudes
in for trade on tape for for bigger ones. And uh,
you know, but the good thing about this group and
last year's group, they they really don't bad and I
at that. They just go out there and compete. And
we did that last year too. It came up with
just a touchdown short. But uh, you know, I really

(38:12):
feel like our guys are going to compete, o' taking
whoever they line up against us, And you know, that's
that's one you know benefit. I think, you know, because
a lot of times you go into playoffs with with
all of this uncertainty, and then and you line up
and you kind of get caught not performing in the moment,
just being.

Speaker 6 (38:30):
In the moment.

Speaker 9 (38:31):
And uh, I don't think that our guys will do that.
I think they'll show up when those lights turn on
and give it our best shot and whatever happens to.

Speaker 3 (38:37):
That, well, coach, I buy into that philosophy whole. Hardly
are going and seeing them in person. There's so many
intangibles you can get in person that you can't see
on tape, and I think those are the important things
that comes down when you have close games.

Speaker 9 (38:52):
I agree. I mean, you know, even as something as
simple as body language, you know you can that's you know,
I always chart, you know, have having notes off to
the side, and when I'm when I was scouting for
basketball or and then now even football is like how
does this kid handle you know, adversity? How does this
you know, maybe he's a really good player, but when
things start getting tough, he you know, he goes away

(39:12):
from the moment instead of stepping up to the moment.
This kid a gamer. You know, you can see all
of those things live and you know the obviously on film,
you see one play and then it goes to the
next place. You don't see the downtime or maybe you
don't even see you know, how's the team warm up?
You know, you know you can. I think you can
get a lot of stuff, like you said, in tangible

(39:33):
things with your own eyes that you can't see on
Tom Well coach.

Speaker 3 (39:38):
Last thing I want to talk about is you send
out an update each week to us in the media,
and it's awesome. I don't know you if you do that,
but whoever does that, please give them a shout out
for me.

Speaker 9 (39:53):
I guess I'll do. I pat myself on the.

Speaker 8 (39:55):
Back right now.

Speaker 9 (39:56):
I don't don't know if it's you.

Speaker 3 (39:58):
By far, it's the best up they think because we
love it.

Speaker 9 (40:02):
Well, I started doing that a couple of years ago,
you know, once kind of like the print media started
to fade a little bit and started growing more digital,
and you know, you get I not almst that I
got tired of it, but like you know, when you win,
obviously your your your requirement to the media is is

(40:25):
is bigger, which I don't mind this Sunday night or
Monday morning. Once everything kind of settled down from the weekend,
just going back and just trying to keep a tally
as the season goes so that when I you know
I can just and I send that out to whoever's
on my media context and you know, sorry if you
didn't want it, but if you did want it, I'm
glad to help. But I just feel like, and that's

(40:47):
another way too, to just get our guys recognized.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
You know.

Speaker 9 (40:50):
Uh, these guys work really hard, and I think they
deserve to be you know, recognized and create these memories
that you know, they're going to have for the rest
of their lives through all of the hard work that
they put in. But yeah, I do that obviously. John
Bruce plays a huge part in and updating and keeping
our website up to date near the Football Wee League

(41:12):
just with some amazing history and all of that, and
it's something to It's nice to be able to look
back and reflect on all of that stuff. So, you know,
it's the least I can do for for how hard
these young men work for us.

Speaker 3 (41:25):
All right, coach, Well, we will be there when you
do play your next game. And until that time, you know,
I'm going to go on another cruise just because you
guys had a bye week. I said, you know what,
taking a week off. I'll be back when you knew
it plays again.

Speaker 9 (41:41):
Make sure you come back.

Speaker 3 (41:42):
I sure, you know what, I may even show up
in a wine shirt.

Speaker 9 (41:47):
That's fine. Bring some of that warm weather with you
because it got a little chili last Friday night.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
I will try to do that.

Speaker 9 (41:53):
So I don't think on November seventh, I think we're
I mean, we're just gone. We're happy to be playing
whatever it is temperature wise.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Take it all right, coach, Well, we appreciate your time always.

Speaker 9 (42:03):
Thanks guy.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
All right, Coach Matt Hoops from U Niyoto and again
a bye week this week and they will take on
the winner of Columbus Heats and Canton South. We will
take a quick break. You're listening to the high school
football preview show sponsored by Accurate Heating, Cooling and Plumbing
on wb e X.

Speaker 2 (42:26):
We won'come you back to the Accurate Heating, Cooling and
Plumbing Football Playoff preview show here on ninety two point
seven WBEX along with Lou Postage. My name is Dewey
Daily as we welcome you back into this evening show.

Speaker 9 (42:39):
Lou.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
We've obviously talked to three coaches so far. We kicked
things off talking to Circleville head coach Jay share It.
We talked to a couple of SVC coaches, Dylan Weirs
over Inzane Trace and then more recently un Yoda's Matt Hoops.
I just want to make a point. Unyoda, looking for
their second ever playoff win, got to give some credit
to the twenty twenty team.

Speaker 4 (42:59):
Even though it was.

Speaker 2 (43:00):
COVID year and everybody got in the playoffs, it was
would listen, it would have counted as a playoff loss.
I feel like it has to count as a playoff
win as well. But you know, if you want to
credit to buy it will be the first time un
Yoda plays football in Week twelve as well, so you know,
some more historic stuff going on with that program.

Speaker 3 (43:17):
And again, you know, last couple of years they've gotten
that home playoff game, just haven't been able to come
through with a win.

Speaker 4 (43:24):
And you know, I think a.

Speaker 2 (43:27):
Lot of people have realized this, especially when it went
to sixteen teams. Now at twelve, it really allows some
of those powerhouse schools to schedule up a little bit.
They can afford to lose four or five games. And
you know, sometimes if you're un Yoda, you go nine
and one, ten and zher and you get a top
five seed. But you're playing, you know, a ten eleven
twelve team that yeah they might be six and four,

(43:49):
five and five, but you know it's Clinton Massy and
it's our Bannon. You know, those are teams that are
playing other top seeds around the area every year.

Speaker 4 (43:57):
So you know.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
It's for un Yoda and it's it's an exciting time
and for Zane Tracon it's an exciting time as well.

Speaker 3 (44:03):
So we're trying to get a Chillicothy coach on the line,
So do if you want to try to call them
on your phone. See if we can't get somebody from
Chillicothy to call in and talk to us about their
game on Friday night. But yeah, we I mean, this
is exciting time of the year here in this area

(44:25):
as we see if we can't get some teams, as
many teams as possible in the week number twelve, and
again it's the last game we want to talk about
here tonight is Chillicothy as they're making the trip down
to Cincinnati to take on a McNicholas team who is

(44:46):
a team that has been in the playoffs quite often
and played a tough schedule. Beata had a huge win
at Hamilton Baden in week number ten to propel them
where they are in the rockets of mc nicholas is
what they're called. And uh, you know, it's it's just

(45:08):
a time of the year where you start to play
teams that you're not used to seeing on your schedule,
and uh, it takes a lot as a coach to
try to come up with some uh you know, films
and as much as you can get off of these teams,
and it does pose a challenge for coaches, uh to

(45:31):
to sort of do that. Now obviously in our digital age,
it's a little bit easier, but uh, you know, we should.
You know, it's just fun to see these different matchups.

Speaker 4 (45:43):
I think you said it best.

Speaker 2 (45:45):
We live in an age where, you know, teams like
you and Yoda and Zane Trace they're getting live streamed
every week or every other week. It definitely makes, you know,
the idea of trading film a little less prevalent because
you can just get on YouTube and go to whether
it's a total media, go to a Southern Ohio sports authority,
go to a whatever, and you can find somebody local

(46:05):
live streaming these teams. Now, I don't know how prevalent
that is in the Cincinnati area, but you know, definitely
here in you know, southern Ohio, south central Ohio, the
live streaming aspect of high school sports has definitely taken
often about the last half decade, and I definitely think
there's more good to it than any negatives people might

(46:26):
be able to dig up. But again, like you said,
it's an exciting time for both of these programs, for
all four of the programs we've talked about on this
evening show. And you know, I'm excited to get back
at it in week eleven, and I'm sure you're excited
for week twelve over.

Speaker 4 (46:40):
At you and Yoda as well.

Speaker 3 (46:42):
Yeah, and our area people don't realize that how how
good we have it here with all of those different
outlets that people are covering sports. That doesn't happen you
go up in the Columbus you know, it used to
be Columbus Dispatch covered a lot of stuff. They don't
do very much anymore. I know, the the fan up there,
ninety seven point one, they do one game a week,

(47:05):
So you just don't get that much done in the
larger areas. So we are very spoiled in our area
with all the different outlets that get to cover these teams,
and you know, it is fun, like you said, to
go out and do these games. As a former coach,
I still get involved in sports. I get to go
call the game, have a little fun, you know, try

(47:27):
to get as much exposure to these athletes. But in
the end, you know, I get to go home, and
whether one team wins or loses, it really doesn't matter
to me. I just go out there and have a
little fun. And you get to this stage, and boy,
if you can get to week thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, then
it really starts to get exciting.

Speaker 4 (47:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (47:46):
You know, you mentioned you go up to Columbus and
you know you have all of those schools sharing seemingly
one radio outlet. But then you know, you get to
Ross County and you have schools I won't say fighting over,
but you know there's three or four people any given year,
you know, looking to live stream games, and if you
just go up to pick Away County, you'll see that
number start to dwindle.

Speaker 4 (48:06):
Obviously, they have some you know, written.

Speaker 2 (48:08):
Media and online media that do game ride ups and
stuff like that, but outside of I think Circleville's local
television station, there's not a lot of live streaming stuff,
you know, just just a county north of Ross County.
I think Ross County is very blessed in that aspect
where you know, if you if you're a grandparent, or
you know, you're physically unable to go to any of
these events, you know, odds are there's going to be

(48:31):
a broadcast of it somewhere. You even see some schools,
you know, go with the huddlecam stuff and broadcast that.
It may not have broadcasters or anything like that, but
it's still video you can watch at home, you know,
and the comfort of your own home. And I think
that's a game changer. And you know, I we didn't
have it when I was an athlete. It really started
to come on seemingly the year after I graduated. But

(48:51):
I'd have to imagine as an athlete, it's got to
be pretty cool to watch a game that you're playing in.
It's got the scoreboard, it's got broadcasters, it's stats.

Speaker 4 (49:01):
I think it's cool for the players as well.

Speaker 3 (49:02):
It sure is, and just to throw something at you here.
When I played, we did have one cable that came
out and did some games in the Columbus area, but
then the game was not broadclass live. It was tape delayed,
and just to really age myself, we didn't even have
a three point line when I played basketball. So that's

(49:25):
how it tells you all old. So this digital self
is all new to me. And the amazing thing is
you can see it or hear it anywhere in the world.

Speaker 4 (49:33):
Basically.

Speaker 3 (49:34):
You know, I've been on my cruises and I've been
able to listen to games while I'm sitting there having
some relaxation.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
Yeah, we had a guy, you know, me and Shane
Combs just did some volleyball over at Logan last week
and we had a parent from Gally Academy come up
and tell us, hey, we appreciated you guys last season.
You know, we're down in Myrtle Beach, you know, nine
ten hours away and we're watching our granddaughter play volleyball.
So stuff like that, you know, not saying that I need,
you know, people to tell me how much they enjoy it,

(50:00):
how good of a job I do. But you know,
getting stuff like that makes you want to continue to
do it. And I think that's a big part of
it is a lot of the members in media. You
and I you know, your boys will have the game
this Friday, and even my dad.

Speaker 4 (50:13):
We enjoy what we do. We don't do it for
the money.

Speaker 2 (50:16):
It's we like sports, We like broadcasting sports, and we
like giving the athletes spotlights as well.

Speaker 3 (50:22):
Yeah and again yeah, we believe me. We don't do
this for the money, but it's it's definitely fun and
we try to bring some excitement and some levity to
the situation. Especially when I'm doing games, I sometimes make
up words, and being married to an former English teacher,

(50:43):
that can get kind of hairy sometimes. But yeah, so
let's go through some of these different regions and look
at maybe some teams from our area that have a
good chance of going out and to let's say week thirteen,
fourteen fifteen.

Speaker 4 (50:59):
Hit me with them.

Speaker 2 (51:00):
I know you obviously cover a lot of the SVC games,
but with some of my ties to some of the
other areas, I'm a little more familiar with some of
these other teams you're going to see. You know, you
get into the Division five, you'll talk some Wheelersburg. Division six,
Portsmouth West is a team in there that you might mention.
And even D seven, I mean down in Beaver Eastern

(51:20):
Pikes having a great season as well as they look
to contend for regional title this year. So there's a
lot of good teams in Southern Ohio throughout Divisions three
through seven.

Speaker 3 (51:30):
Well, let's look at Division three to start with Region twelve.
You know, you've seen this team up close and personal. London.
They're the number one seed, and if Chiliicothy would happen
to win their first round game, they're going to have
that match up again with London. And you look also
the number four seed, Jackson. You've seen them as well.
Talk a little bit about those two teams and possibly
you know how good are they.

Speaker 2 (51:51):
London is a program that is built on the foundation
of we're going to run it until you can stop us.
Week two, Chillicothe at Long. In first three plays of
the game, quarterback sneak. First play was about twenty yards,
second play was forty, and the next one was ten
I mean seventy yards right down the field. Quarterback sneak.
And for those listening at home, it's not it's exactly

(52:12):
what you think. It's quarterback sneak between the tackles, but
up front and their quarterback and the blocking they have
from some of their tailbacks, and you know the four
tight ends that they line up with is just outstanding.
And it's again it's tough to play from behind. If
you get down a couple of scores, it's gonna be
tough because they're gonna chew up, you know, nine or
ten minutes of the clock every time they have the ball.

(52:34):
And you know, defensively, they're gonna play sound defense as well.
And you mentioned Jackson. I mean just year in and
year out, one of the top dog programs in southern Ohio,
Andy Halls in his seventeenth year down there, and he
has never had a losing season. So just stuff like
that when you when you start to read in between
the lines a little bit, you're like, I've never really,
now that I think about it, Jackson has never had

(52:54):
a losing record because they go to the playoffs every year.
If we'd had this buy system in place, they'd probably
be a main and stay in Week twelve almost every year,
just because of the talent they have. Now that they're
a little more pass heavy than London is. And when
I say pass heavy, I mean they might throw it
five or six times a game versus zero. So those
are two top teams that are really tough, and unfortunately

(53:15):
Chillicothy caught the wrong end of that both times this season.
But yeah, two top teams in D three Region twelve
for sure.

Speaker 3 (53:22):
And that would be a Week thirteen matchup. And I
believe those Week thirteens this year is still at the
higher seed, so that would be at London, so we
could see in Week thirteen London and Jackson. And also
in that region is that Hamilton Baden team we talked about.
Their first loss came to McNicholas in Week ten. That's
a solid program two in that region. I mean, what

(53:42):
does that say about McNicholas. I mean, they're the number
eight seed and they hand them a road law, or
I guess they hand them a home loss. They go
in heavy underdogs on the road and hand Baden their
first loss of the season. So I think that says
a lot about the Archbishop McNicholas program. And like I said,
we lost to them five years ago in the second
week of the playoffs, so you know they're no stranger

(54:04):
to advancing in the playoffs. And unfortunately, I think Chillicothy
is going to run into that this week. But it's
a cavalier team and I don't want to get ahead
of it, But it's a Chilicothe team that for me,
I felt like their floor has been low at times,
but man, when they're ceiling it, when you take the
roof off, it's it's a team that's hard to play against.

(54:25):
And again, we talked about how Chillicothe, because of their
injuries throughout the year, they're just now trying to get
everyone back and you're probably as healthy as they've been
all year.

Speaker 2 (54:35):
Yeah, for me, it feels like Chillicothe out of the
ten weeks, and remember they go six and four coming
off of three wins combined the last couple of years,
I truly feel that they've only been at one hundred
one week out of those weeks because the first couple
of weeks, I feel like they were still trying to
find their identity. Carte Ligan, who would go on to
be a two thousand yard rusher on the season, he

(54:56):
didn't have a carry until Week three, so he did
all that damage in the last eight weeks of the season. Now,
what also happened in week two was Andrew Hammond goes
down with an injury, so that takes them out of
commission up until week eight when they host McClain. You
get Hammond back, but then weeks nine and ten you're
missing one of your top wide receivers and Jeremy Kaine.
So I feel like this week eleven matchup with Archbishop

(55:18):
McNicholas and my opinion, is really only going to be
the second game this season that Chillicothe has been to
their full strength, and hopefully they can show off some
of that potential this Friday.

Speaker 4 (55:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (55:30):
So that's Region twelve, and that's just a tough region
when you look at all those teams in there. Let's
move to Region fifteen, Division four. That's the region with
Uniodo And really when you look at this team, number
one seed New Lexington, number two seed is Indian Valley,
and number three seed is Jonathan Alder and then you
have UNI at the four seed. I think this Uniodo

(55:53):
team can play with any of those teams right there.

Speaker 4 (55:55):
So we should be.

Speaker 3 (55:59):
A nice and winnable games for Uniote.

Speaker 2 (56:03):
Yeah, you mentioned New Lexington that that's gonna be a
tough matchup whoever matches up with them. But you talk
about you and Yoda, you know a team last year
that you know you're gonna get your first glimpse at
You know, here's a sophomore, Isaac Koy coming off the
heels of Newton hoops his career. You know who's going
to take over the reins. Oh, here's a sophomore.

Speaker 4 (56:20):
How will he do well?

Speaker 2 (56:21):
He's pretty good too, and he's gonna, you know, finish
as a top passer in their school program history as well.
And that's you know, not not to not credit any
of their wide receivering corps Jackson Zikafus, Brandon Harsha freshman's
had a great year and even Cody Braiden I mentioned
talking with coach Hoops now the all time leader in
career total touchdowns with with forty five incounting.

Speaker 4 (56:41):
So it's just a loaded team.

Speaker 2 (56:43):
And I'm not even going to get into the defense
that average giving up four points per game. So you
and Yoda's well equipped to hopefully make a deep tournament
run this season.

Speaker 3 (56:52):
And again we talked to Circleville coach Jay Sherritt. They
tour in that region, and I'll tell you what, that
team has won two straight games and had a huge
win on the road at Carol. That's a team that's
riding a high right now. And you get on a
little roll here at the end of the year, anything
can happen.

Speaker 2 (57:07):
I think the key for Circleville was getting one of
their own guys into that head coaching position. You look
across the MSL and you go to Amanda Clear Creek.
What a program that is. Back to back state champs
in D five and I think two thousand and two
thousand and one, or maybe it was nineteen ninety nine
and two thousand. They hit a rough patch there for
a couple of years, but then they get one of
their own guys, Chet Sam from Amanda Clear Creek in there,

(57:29):
and they're maybe not right back where they were, but
they're definitely on the upswing hosting a playoff excuse me,
they're going back down to Portsmouth, YEP for a week
eleven game here this coming Friday. So you know, again,
circle ball having one of their best seasons in recent memory,
their most winning is season since twenty thirteen, and we
obviously mentioned that went over Bloom Carroll as well, a

(57:49):
big one and the Tigers getting a chance to host
a playoff game.

Speaker 3 (57:53):
And to wrap up our preview here, let's look at
Division five Region nineteen, where Wheelersburg's number one seed and
we also see that Amanda Clear Creek team going down
to Portsmouth, and this is also where we see Zane
Trace heading down to Lucasville Valley. This is a region
that sort of got a big blow up there in

(58:15):
Week number ten and changed some things around in this region.

Speaker 2 (58:19):
Yeah, the Ironton stuff, we don't have a lot of
time to dive into best so we'll leave that alone.
But Zaane Trace Lucasville Valley, I think that's gonna be
for our area teams. I think that's going to be
the most entertaining and competitive Week eleven game.

Speaker 4 (58:32):
You mentioned Wheelersburg. I mean the Pirates are having one of.

Speaker 2 (58:34):
Their best seasons in the last decade. The last time
they beat Ironton and Jackson they won a state championship
back in twenty seventeen. So yeah, it's a Wheelersburg team
that that's exciting to watch. And you mentioned Portsmouth and
Amanda Clear Creek as well, So hopefully Zane Trace can
get a win this Friday and advance even further into

(58:55):
the football playoffs.

Speaker 3 (58:57):
All right, Well, I think we've touched on a lot
of stuff here tonight. Do It was fun to come
in here and talk football, and thanks to those coaches
that called in and hopefully your game on Friday is
exciting one and you guys have a great experience down there,
and hopefully we'll be doing this into week thirteen and fourteen.

Speaker 2 (59:17):
Hopefully you have a good vacation as well during the offline,
the bye.

Speaker 4 (59:20):
Week, the bye week.

Speaker 3 (59:21):
Yes, so we appreciate those tuning in and listening to
our comments in our interviews. As we said on WBX,
this week, it's going to be the Chillicoth the Cavaliers
taking on the Nicholas Rockets from Cincinnati, and on WKKJ
is going to be the Zane Trace Pioneers traveling down

(59:45):
to Lucasfille to take on the Indians. For Dewey Daily,
myself Lou postage for Sidney Newsom, who has done a
great job here with a lot of stuff going against
her here. Tonight, she got us on the air, she
got coaches on the air, and we couldn't do any
of this stuff without her. So again, Sydney, thank you

(01:00:05):
for all you do and we look forward to seeing
guys down the Route A road. This has been the
