Here on the Accurate Heating, Cooling and Plumbing Game of
the night on ninety four Country WKKJ. I'm Chris posted
going alongside tonight by my brother Trey posted tray, it's
good to be here. Yeah, it definitely is good to

be here. We got a good match up here tonight.

under Andrew Day over there with the Deanas Girl program,
so you know a lot about what's going to go
on go down tonight. Yeah, And both these teams back
then they had young players and now they've they've grown
into you know, upperclassmen, juniors and seniors on the UNIODA side,

Miley Smith and Maggie Holbert have both played since they
were freshmen, and then on the piked In side Leila
Kelly only a junior now, but she's had some really
good years to start off her high school career. Looking
to build on that this season and definitely tonight against
that pretty good team in Unyoda. Like Tray said, our
matchup tonight is the un Yodo Shermans versus the piked
In Red Streaks. Un Yoda three and one on the season,

coming off of lost to Bishop Hartley as wins over
Miami Trace, Waynesville and Huntington piked In therefore and two
winners of three straight with losses the Fortsmuth West and
Logan Elm with wins at Waverly, just.

With a win at Waverley to start the season.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Trey talking to both of these coaches, they both really
tried to challenge themselves so far with teams they played,
and Yoda with a tough one up there Bits Partley,
they were able just to get after them. Yeah, when
when you go to player to play those those Prompus
teams is a little bit different than you would got
when you get down here in the Southeast District. So yeah,

I assume that was a really physical game for you Yoda,
and that's one that you know, even though y Yoda
lost that game, they're gonna look towards that that game as.

Very happy to have that on the schedule.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Tough turn of time, get them ready for the physical
play the Cups in January and Cebruary. Both teams undefeated
in conference plays so far, so tonight's game will be
for sole possession of first place.

Looking at Unioda, offensively, they come in.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Averaging fifty point three points per game. Defensively giving up
forty one point eight big key for them. They lost
an all league player averaging nineteen points last.

Year in my Maya Hamilton. But with Smith coming back
as the reigning player of the Year, we're looking.

For some players for them to them up and philleading
those nineteen points. Yeah, it's probably gonna be one of
those seniors in Maggie Holbert and even you know.

A Danison, she's played really good. She's a senior now.

So when she was an underbosser and she was more
of like that that junkyard dog that would do everything
that you need, she maybe wouldn't get points, but most
of her points would come off of playing defense and
playing really tough.

So I'd like to see one of those theF too.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
And then also sophomore Kiar Beard. She had a good
freshman year last year, so looking build off that. She's
a very talented, dynamic guard for the Sheriff.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Yeah.

Yeah, Beard came in as a freshman, did a lot
of the ball handling for them, maybe experience well above
her age.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Is the young sophomore, Yeah, she definitely is.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
And you know, you know, they really want to get
the ball to Miley Smith and let her run. But
if you're Piked and you really do not want Miley
Smith to beat you, and you'd rather have the other
three or four players where you can go to that
that's gonna you know, score more of their points to
beat them.

But that's definitely a challenge.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
We can go to play like Mirley Smith looking at
Piked and they come in offensively scoring forty six points
per game and defensively giving up thirty and a half
points per game. A lot of tight matchups for them.
The keys for them is Leila Kelly getting her going.
She'd scored twenty two in their last game against Miami.
Trace even hit the game winner with five seconds to go.

She also added fifteen in their win over aDNA the
other night. Yeah, Kelly is a really good dynamic guard
as well, just Piked, it goes as she goes, so
they really want to get her going early. And you know,
if they are going to beat a very good team
at Unioa, she's got to have a big night. Number
two scoring for them could be in question. It's been

Roberts Daniels Forbes at times, but they do have many options.
They'll go about eight deep, but they need somebody to
step up if if a team like UNA is able
to take away Kelly. Yeah, and Hada, they're really good defensively,
and they will try it and you know, make life
miserable for Laila Kelly here tonight because they know if

Pike It's gonna beat up here at their own place,
it's gonna because Laila Kelly's gonna have a really good game. So,
like you said, Forbes, Shanks and a little bit of
Pittwell and Hail also for Piking are gonna have to
contribute to the score here to night for Piketon. This

contest fruits for the visiting piked In red streaks number three,
Hayden Daniels, a five to eight junior, Number four, Layla Kelly,
a five to five junior, Number fifteen, Jalen Forbes a

five's sixth junior, number twenty two, Mattie Hale, a five
to three senior, and number eleven Reese Shanks, a five
six senior.

Pikedon's head coach is Jason Taylor.

Yeah, with piked In starting five there, Like I said before,
if they really run through Laila Kelly, they want to
want to get her as many looks as they can. Also,
to go along with those starters, you're gonna see Taylor
Roberts off the bench for Pikedon. I can't remember how
many points she had in a recent game. I think
it was eight points that she had there their most
recent wins. So we're gonna see a lot of Peru.

And then also I'd say Jalen Forbes is really gonna,
you know, maybe be that second compliment to Laila Kelly
to to gold boards here tonight for.

four there for Uniyoda starting, but Charlotte Dennis, she's gonna
be that uh you know, kind of that that girl
underneath for the through the Unito Shermans where they might
be able to duck down to her. She can get
some some good looks, but really big key for her
is offensive rebounding kids piked.

To keep her off the glass offensively steal extra possessions
for the Shermans coming up for each team. After tonight,
Unyoda will be at Westfall and then they take on

for Piketon, they'll take on Huntington and then they'll be
at Zane Trace no Sorry, be home for Zane Trace
and then at Paint Valley to close out the first
season before the holiday break. You said it like it
really is the first season to the second season, because

you have that holiday break and it's almost like you reset,
and it's really hard to prepare as a coach during
that break because you're not gonna get as much practice
time and you know a lot of the players aren't
really thinking about basketball around that week period there, so
it really is just tough for coaches there.

by Dannison picked up there by Daniels Smith down the lane.

Yeah, Smith, really good job of turning that corner getting downhill.
Tyton just couldn't stop her pressure by yun yoda, Kelly
able to get it across the timeline. She gets all

on the scoop shot and I believe it was on

to see that through the Shermans because Holbert's one that

a little off balance there and Kelly, good job by
her recognizing that going into Dannison and causing that little
bump there and get a foul call by the rest

Now Dannison comes over on the wing. That's Shanks. Shanks
driving her shop walking there by Dennis inside and it
goes out of bounds off the red streaks.

She's doing a really good job of using her long
arms and getting them straight up and not jump at
the foul hiking with their press. Smith in the back
court picks up her dribble, throws it up to Hulbert.
Hulbert gets it into the lanes, spinning, picks up her
dribble out to Dennis. Dennis on the wing, dribbles it
to the top of the key, hands it to Beard.
Beard's gonna try another long three from where she just
made the last one. That one's no good. Shanks the

other way gets it out to Kelly. Kelly on the
wing looking down low for Shanks. That's stolen away there
by Dennis. Dennis going the other way gets it Lane,
dumps it down to Smith. Smith at the bucket. No
good that she's foul. Good play inside by Dennis so

Mimy Smith running with her, and uh, kind of lucky

Sherman's move to four and one on the season, two

go over to Trey and look at some stats from
today's game. First, for the victorious Uniota Shermans, they were
led in scoring by Miley Smith, who threw in twenty
six points. Fourteen of those were in the first half
and twelve of those were in the second half. Next
to the Storm was Kiara Beard. She had eleven points
through in three triples, Maggie Holbert through in ten points,

(01:30:30):
and debt wise, Zoe Dettweiler had eight points for the
Shermans and also for the Union the Shermans Charlotte Dennis
four points, Chloe Fisher there at the end knocked down
two threes had six points, and then also two points
for Kaylee Seaver and Abigail Watson. And for the Piked
in Red Streaks, they shot twenty one percent from the field.

Just a rough night for Piked and I'm able to
get anything to fall. They were led in scoring by
Reyes Shanks, who had ten points. Six of those were
from the free throw line and then Jalen Forbes threw
in six points. Rough night for Leila Kelly, one of
the best girls basketball players in the area, held at

just five points, and all those came to the first quarter.
Unioda did a really good job of just making her uncomfortable,
especially after that first quarter.

Had with two points was Kate Ward, Brier Pinwell and
also Hayden Daniels and Chris shooting twenty one percent. For
pike in red strikes, you're not gonna win very many games.

un Yoda. Since then un Yoda outscore piked in fifty

Really turned it on after that first quarter ended.

Yeah, I thought early it was a defensive battle. Both
teams unable to really find their stride, but they were
able to sink in defensively. And then I thought both
teams were getting good shots, but it just seemed like
U Nyoda was making them and piked in wasn't. Yeah,
I think you're right, it's pikedon got really good looks.
And you know, I thought that three quarter core pressure

for Unio was really gonna get piked in fits, but
they were able to handle it. Most of their pernovers
were off of half four defenses. Are that Unioda ran,
But got to give Niota credit. They make people uncomfortable
pretty much every time they play them, and you know,
definitely a good win and making coach Miller feel good
about tonight. With this one tonight, Unioda takes first place

So uh yeah, it should be a good, good, uh
good game the second time it comes around.

Talked about in the pre game, they lost the All
League player Maya Hamilton. She averaged nineteen points per game. Uh,
but I thought, I mean, you saw Holbert, you saw Bear.
They really stepped up and were able to fill that
role that was left for that.

And also two players that really didn't score much was
Charlotte Dennis and Danison. They they played really good games defensively,
and you know, Dennis got a lot of shots up,
she just didn't make them. I think she she missed
three threes early in the in the first quarter and
then she kind of went away from it. But if
teams are gonna leave her open, she's capable to knock
that down and have big games like that. But yeah,

(01:37:18):
like you said, uh, you know, besides those, the big
player in Miiley, Smith, Holbert and kr Beer did a
really good job tonight, and you know, coach Miller's definitely
happy with how much they progress going into this year.
Following up on Dennis, she didn't score much, but I
tell you what, she filled up the other boxes with rebounds,

(01:37:38):
steals and assists. She was able to rebound the ball
and get it out quick and then Unier was able
to take it the other way. A lot of hockey
assists don't really count in basketball, which they should. Yeah,
but and with the long arms that she has, she
was able to get in the way of some of
the piking shots and just maybe maybe she didn't get
a block, but she was a hand had.

A hand there and it just uncomfortable for piking the
