Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is high school basketball on ninety four Country w KKJ.
Now let's head the games site for today's pregame show
on ninety four Country.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Good evening, everyone, and welcome to Huntington High School. I'm
Shane Colmes, and this is the Hernstein hundaiy SVC Game
of the Week on ninety four Country WKKJ, and of
course worldwide on iHeartRadio. Have some girls action this evening.
That should be an outstanding contest as the Adena Lady
Warriors make the trip across county here to the township
to take on the Huntington Lady Huntsman. And you come

(00:37):
into a matchup like this a two programs that have
had some success here in recent years. And first, starting
on the visiting side, coach Andrew Day brings his Lady
Warriors in at eight and five overall, four and three
inside the SVC and seems like a Deana. Huntington and
Piketon have been fighting for that two three four spot
all year long, and that'll probably continue down to the wire.

(00:59):
Over on the hunt side, coach Kyle Yurig, his group
comes in at nine and three, six and two inside
the SVC, and they've been extremely tough to beat here
at home, and it's just it seems like over the
last two or three years, you take the head to
head matchups between these two schools and you could pretty
much assure one thing, not necessarily who's gonna win the game,

(01:21):
but you can assure it's going to be a close one.
It's gonna be a great defense on both sides. You
take a look at some of the numbers. Huntington comes
in averaging right around forty five a game, where Adena
scores at forty two a night, and then defensively Huntington
at forty almost forty one a game, and aDNA, who
really really will guard you in the half court, well,

(01:43):
they allow less than forty per contest. So you add
all that up and you're most likely going to have
yourself a close ballgame. Both of these teams have done real,
real well throughout the last three or four years, as
I said, and this year no different than With the
seven divisions extending out, I'm sure we're starting to get

(02:05):
to that time where it's off tournament time. Taking the
look inside the side of the Valley Conference in terms
of the standings, just to give you an idea to
illustrate what I'm talking about with these two teams fighting
for a top half spot Uniota at seven and three.
They entered the day at nine and three, but Unioda
was a non league winner over Mary'sville today sixty five

(02:25):
fifty nine, so that was coach Miller's tenth win of
the year for the Ladies Shermans. And then in that
two home piked In and Huntington both entered league play
today at six and two in the league piked In
nine and five overall, Huntingdon nine and three. The score
report I was given in terms of Pike then as

(02:46):
they were victorious over Eastern today. I do not have
a final score on that, but if that is correct,
that would also be their tenth overall win. And then
again hunting In six and two nine and three, as
I said earlier, also mentioned that Adena in three, eight
and five. That puts them currently in the fore hole
with an opportunity to close the guy up here on Hunnock.

(03:06):
Then this evening then Westfall four and four, six and six,
sitting right out five hundred Southeastern entered the day two
and five, six and nine overall because they trace one
and seven, two and twelve, and then Paint Valley entered
played today at one and seven, two and twelve, but
we had a big win for Paint Valley, so I

(03:27):
actually need to update that. So Paint Valley fifty eight
southeaster and forty two this afternoon out in Bainbridge, Caris
Died led the way with sixteen points, nine rebounds in
six Fiells Sophie Staffer had fourteen points and three assists.
The Landy Manion was in double figures for the Lady

(03:48):
Bearcats as well. Brown Gracy Brown led to Southeast from seventeen.
They're outstanding guard who can really shoot it. But again
three Bearcats and double figures and they beat Southeastern. So
if you update that, Southeastern would drop to two and six,
six and ten, and then Paint Valley would improve till
one in seven and two and twelve overall, and that's

(04:09):
back to back wins for Coach Norman and her Lady
Bearcats as again the second half the year, trying to
develop a little momentum. So that paints a picture here
in the side of Alley conference. I'll take a quick
time out and when I come back, I'll get into
more details of what we can expect here from this
outstanding matchup between Adan and Huntington. Miss Shane Colmes, you're
listening to pregame action on the Hernstein hun Day SPC

Welcome back to Huntington High School. I'm Shane Holmes bringing
you some Saturday night action on the girls side here
in the side of Ali conference. This sar Hernstein Hundai
SBC Game of the Week on ninety four Country WKKJ.
And again, as I mentioned, a Diena making the trip
over here to the township for what should be an
outstanding game. And if we take a little closer at
the look at tonight's matchup, two of the real outstanding

(06:13):
and individual scores in the conference. First on the Adena side,
Marley holcom just to Sophomore averaging up around sixteen points
a game, a really really good all round player. And
then as we highlighted last night on the Scoreboard Show,
and when I say Scoreboard Show, I should give a
shout out Accord Heating, cooling and plumbing Scoreboard Show I
get to do each Friday night with Vanessa and Sydney

(06:34):
back in the station. There we talked to probably twelve
thirteen fourteen coaches last night Coach Urigan Coach Day included
for Huntington and Adena, and you can go back and
find that there on the website and throughout the podcast
tab there as well as on the spreaker page for WKKJ.
So I always enjoy doing that. But when we are

(06:55):
talking about Ali Baker. Ali Baker is our newest member
of the one ausand point club here in the side
of Ali Conference where the senior comes in averaging right
around twenty two and a half a game, and she's
a big time scored, can score in a lot of
different ways. Gets to the free throw line quite a bit,
She's about seventy five percent there. She's coming up on
about thirty threes made on the year. And then she

(07:17):
also turns defense into offense quite a bit, one of
the league's top in terms of theft when she takes
it away about three or four times a night. So
that'll certainly be something to look for in that terrific
matchup back and forth and see which supporting cast maybe provides. Well,
we're coming up on the national anthem, I'll step away
one more time and why come back off the starting

(07:38):
lineups and then eventually the tip off for you getting
this to the hernsign Hunt Day SVC Game of the

Welcome back Huntington High School. Coming up on the starting lineups.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Here as the great voice of Bud Lytle, as we
know so well in our league, going to announced first
the Lady Warriors and then the home Lady Huntsman. Let's
go and take a look at those starting lineups. On
the Adena side, we are expecting sophomore Marley Halfman, who
comes in as I said earlier, averaging around sixteen a game,
a top five score inside the SPC. She'll be joined

(10:48):
by another sophomore, Dava Ferrell, Junior j. C. Smith, Senior
Cameron Sours, and then senior Prin Day again.

Speaker 16 (10:59):
For a DIENA.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
That's Halcombe, Farrell, Smith, Sours and Dad. Going over to
the home side, we expect ri A Smith, Tory Smith,
both juniors for the Lady Huntsman. Then there's Leah mc closky,

(11:21):
a senior, and then freshman Bradley Houseworth and senior Ali Baker.
Again four Huntington's Smith, Smith, McCloskey, Houseworth and Baker. As
I mentioned a second ago, Baker comes in average in
twenty two and a half, but per freshman teammate Bradley
Houseworth having an outstanding year as well, averages up around

(11:42):
seven and a half points nine rebounds. The nine rebounds
is right up toward the top a top one or
two there in the league. Just an outstanding player could
versatility at five to nine of blocks, almost one shot
per game, and she's certainly come on throughout the year
and being able to give a nice one two punch
there with Baker giving them just a little bit more scoring.

(12:05):
And you know, I mentioned that because I was saying
in the second segment of our pregame there, I really
think it'll be the supporting cast who can come up
with the second.

Speaker 16 (12:14):
And third score.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
You know, you expect Baker and Holcom to do what
they do, and a matchup like this where coach Urig
and Coach Day know each other so well, there'll be
a key on the other team star player. But at
the same time, what happens oftentimes these games are decided
on the team who can get that second or third
kid into the scoring column and provide some offense. I

(12:37):
mentioned the Pike and Lady Red streaks right up there
with Huntington and Adena, those three schools have been fighting
for the two hole.

Speaker 16 (12:44):
I know earlier in the year.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
When Pikedon had come to Huntington that was a really
good game and an example of what I'm talking about.
They did a pretty good job on Baker that night
that those Tory Smith who had the big night for Huntington.
Let's look for something like that either on the being
her Huntington's side to see, well, it looks like we're
ready to go. Huntington wearing the home white with the
green numerals Adina and the two shade blue the dark

(13:09):
blue uniform with the light blue numbers, and Adena will
take the opening tip and they'll be working my right
the left as I call the action for you here
from Huntington High School, and they have the first possession
into the scrimmage area. As always they execute pretty well
into their offense. They'll utilize some flare screens, some backscreen,
get good player involved movement. Smith penetrates to the middle,

(13:32):
kicks it out right wing. Three ball there from Pharah.
No good fight for the rebound, and I think we
had a loose ball foul. As they come out of here,
it's going to be on the Lady Warriors going to
take it over to Huntington. Sours of Adena's who they
got there on that first foul, her first team first
thirty seconds in Huntington on their first offensive possession. They

(13:54):
bring it down into the scrimmage. Eery, it's mcclawskey onto
the right wing. Baker comes off a double screen, tries
a three up top and no good fight for the
loose ball out comes Smith of a dina for it.
Pushes the ball up the left side. It's fair, turns around,
kicks it out to Smith. Smith tries a three from

(14:15):
the top of the key, bounces around the head, but
about three or four times later he goes ahead and
falls in.

Speaker 17 (14:20):
J C.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Smith gets our scoring started here on the evening with
a three ball and a dina leads it three to nothing.
Smith brings it across timeline gives the Baker on the
right wing. She tries to right baseline. Smith does a
good job of closing that off. Now Tory Smith has
it back up top. Tory again the junior point guard
for coach Urig quarterbacks the offense out the mcclowskey loose

(14:45):
ball knocked away and we got an all out fight
for it. And it looks like it's gonna be a
possession arrow favoring Huntington because again, as I said, just
moments earlier, a Deena had had the opening tip, So
possession arrow will favor.

Speaker 16 (14:59):
The home team.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Three nothing at Dina. We're just ninety seconds into this one.
Shane Combs here on WKKJ bring an SBC girl's action
to you right side. It's Tylesworth up top. Baker now
to the wing the Smith. Now they go in trying
to isolate their Houseworth on the blocks. She got a
little too deep underneath. They did a nice job of

(15:21):
deflecting the shot. Ball comes out and the Warriors habit.
Smith will push it up for the Warriors left side.
Halcolm Malcolm comes off the ball string from day Now
Farrell has it on the left wing. Dina Jim will
spread the floor. Well, they'll use Day in the middle.
Smith right hand ribble all the way to the rim,

(15:42):
cut off their good help from Houseworth. Now tries to
drop a bounce pass in the Day in the post.
Her shot up, no good mcclawskey of Huntington with the
rebound show out left the Baker and hunton'll look the push.
Baker crosses over into the middle. Good transition deference from
Adena closes that off. Now we've got a ball screen
over in front of the Adena bench is. Smith was

(16:04):
coming off house Worth and schul rode over to top.
Adena was fronting the post. Pretty good entry fee House
was unable to finish, and again Adena with another stop.
They have the ball back back the other way. Go
to the Warriors and right into their transition. A nice
backscreen there is. Smith comes off of it. She nice

(16:24):
cut away from the ball. She catches it and lays
it in. She has all five and Adena leads it
five to nothing. Five ten to go. First quarter dribble
entry from Smith over to the left wing. Now it's
back up top to Baker. Baker trying to find some
root down the middle, but just great help defense. Baker
kind of forces up a mid range shot on the

(16:45):
back side. Nice hustle for mcclawskey to win another possession
and coach juriy is gonna take a time out. It's
gonna be a short one. I'll stay here with you
and again in the early going as expected. You know,
Adena to such a good job in the half court
they close off the middle, that they have a pretty
good idea of scouting a port. And that's why I

(17:06):
think it's going to be so important for Huntington to
try to utilize their defense and utilize some stops to
try to get out into the open court. If you're
a Diena, the opening probably three minutes here is about
what you would script if your coach Andrew Day. You
want to be able to get five of your defenders
back in front of the ball. You don't want to
give up easy ones. You want to make them earn

(17:26):
it against your outstanding half court defense. Keep in mind,
I told you in the pregame, Adena only gives up
thirty eight point eight a game, and that goes all
the way down to thirty four if you take away
their Sheridan and Unioda losses. Two of the real premier
bigger schools in our in our southeast district.

Speaker 16 (17:44):
Back to action.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
It's an ob under for Huntington. Closky drops in in
the house for ball tipped away again. Great help defense
from everywhere, all kinds of active hands for the lady Warriors.
How Tory Smith has it up top and she'll reset
things hunting into a one or high set. They give
it the Houseworth at the elbow, Baker runs off a
hand off and finally gets free, gets some space and

(18:07):
she knocks down a mid range jumper. Certainly can't go
under that. When you have a shooter like Baker and
Adena got caught under and give Houseworth, you assist Baker
the deuce five to Adena Layriors coming back the other way.
How come a shot Bake for three steps into an
elbow jumper all the way in and out on her,
but it looks like it might have been touched last

(18:27):
by Huntington on the rebound. So Adena is going to
get another try. Good look for Halcomb there on her
first shot attempt to Night just didn't go in. Adena
goes a screen to screen or action and they get
Day on the back side. She had a good look
at it, couldn't get the layup to go out comes
Hunting with the rebound. Smith pushes it up for him

(18:48):
on the right side. He goes to mcclauskey, over to
Ali Baker on the right side. She tried to go
behind the back to utilize the ball screen and again
the ball pressure from Sours and Baker dribbled it off
her foot and went out of bound's turnover back to Adena.
Really good job by a. Sour's there to show hard

(19:09):
and you give good pressure. Three point fifty three. First quarter,
five to two a Diena. Smith brings it up his
right side. Feral try to go back to Smith and
they throw it away kind of, you know, good good
pressure from huntingon a little bit of an unforced there,
and again we're gonna have a turnover back over to
Hunting them just five to two A Diena three forty six.

(19:30):
Both teams just kind of film themselves out. We expected
a low scoring, a slugfest type of game where both
of these teams go Houseworth at the elbow again. Baker
run off at a hand off. This time he's gonna
try a three. No good out comes. Holcome of a
Diena brings it up, goes right side Farrel Feral tries
to go into the middle, has it knocked away and

(19:52):
out comes hunting with a turnover. Baker no one left
hand pulls it up mid range jumper good Ali Baker.
She has all full for Huntington and she cuts the
Adena lead to five to four with three thirteen to go.
Here in the first quarter, Huntington changing it up on
the defensive end, going in a little zone look and
coach Urg play about three or four different things. Smith

(20:13):
is going to try a left wing three no good.
Great effort from Pharrell to run it down, and I
think we have a foul over in front of the Huntingtons.
Finch Leah mcclausky whistled for that foul her first team
first for substitutions of the evening. It's Olivia Ferrell on

(20:36):
the Adena side replacing Eva Ferrell and on the Huntington side.
Looks like Savannah push outs into the game sight out
of bounds four Adena in front of the Huntington bench.
They mbounded up tops hours over the left side. Now
it's fair. Her and Smith played a little catch back

(20:56):
and forth, trying to move the Huntington zone into the
middle of the halcam now inside out the salar Salers
try to spin move to cut two and on the
way up on the left just lost it and went
out of bound. It's going to come back over so again.
Huntington just changing it up on the defensive end a
little bit uh and Adena right now having trouble solving
where they want to attack it.

Speaker 16 (21:17):
Two forty to go.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
First quarter, five to four A Diena Smith of Huntingdon
brings it up across the timeline. Baker runs off about
three screens and that iverson screen, kind of that foul
line extended screen that they run a lot. Then she
tries to hit a little diagonal post feed the houseworth
and throws it into the stage and that's going to
be a turnover. So both teams again defending really well,

(21:40):
offense a little sloppy, and we've got that low scoring
start that we expected. Five to four Adena, we're coming
up on about two fifteen to play. Here in the
opening quarter, Smith overr on the right wing out top
farm down on the left corner to halt them. She'll
drive hard now trapped in the corner, her pass is
deflected by Baker, and Huntington's gonna to come out with us.

Speaker 16 (22:00):
Still.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
We got another turnover. Here comes Tory Smith pushing it
hard and transition off to the Shifts. There in the corner.
Bush Shifts brings it up and gives it the Baker
a nice little crossover dribble splits a double team her runner.
No good, She gets her own rebound. Now we got
a left corner three from Smith.

Speaker 16 (22:18):
No good in the fight for the rebound. Let's see here.
I think they're going to say house where touched it last?
Good call.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
And mclausfy will return to the game, so Dina will
have the ball in the full court here as J. C.
Smith walks it up a Dina with the ball and
a one point advantage at five four to go. First quarter,
Huntking remaining in the two three zone, trying to stretch
out a little bit. Smith has it out on the
right wing into the middle. Nice little curl move for Halcomb.

(22:51):
Nice little adjustment there from coach Day. They even against
the zone. They kind of screamed his zone and curl
Holcomb right into the middle right at the spc or
excuse me, the township logo here, and she knocks it
down for her first bucket. Nadina leads at seven to four,
one ten to play by, it comes hunted and Baker
gives off to mcclouskey. Tried to get a post feed

(23:12):
down the house Worth and didn't quite have the angle,
and then again gonna throw it away. I don't have
the turnover stat forty on both sides here this evening.
I apologize, but I would assure you it's both numbers
would be much much higher than Coach Day and Coach
Rugg would care to see here for just seven minutes
of basketball, over to Sours on the right wing, now

(23:32):
it's Smith. Smith will penetrate kicks at the Sours on
top over to how come on the right wing, her three,
no good Tory Smith was a long Rebound's gonna give
her a chance to push over On the right wing,
she tried to hit a cutting Outley Baker. Ball was deflected,
but Smith able to run it down. So thirty seven
seconds to go hunting in possession down three. Baker has

(23:55):
it out on the right point, guarded by Smith. Sure
it's a high ball screen with house where Now Houseworth
on the roll gets it back, shot up, No good,
loose ball, great hustle from the freshman house where she
gets it back, gives off the Baker, and Baker just
fights her way all the way into the middle and
aDNA was wanting to charge. I think it was going
to be a block. Ali is so good, as I

(24:18):
said in the pregame, she just kind of slithers her
way in through through the crease there.

Speaker 16 (24:23):
And at the NBA.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Level that would have been the n one. But at
the high school level, we're gonna get and call it
on the floor shot no good and they'll be obi
under opportunity for Huntington box set for coach jurd get
it in, get it all the way up topping out
of Baker. Baker off that same ball screen from house
for She tried to take the touch pass down low

(24:45):
picked off by Smith of Adena Smith with a long
bounce pass outstanding. Smith threads the needle diagonal all the
way to Halcam and she lays it in and time expires.
That's a big time high school pass, ladies and gentlemen.
So we've come to in of one quarter a Dana

Welcome back to Huntington High School Shane Combs on the
Hernstein HOUNDAI SVC Game of the Week here on ninety
four Country WKKJ, or of course iHeartRadio to hear worldwide
ninety four A diena early going there, Smith with five
to lead the way House from with four and again
we had that outstanding past that look ahead there for

(26:36):
Smith as time was expiring there, how to put aDNA
up five? Adena will take the first possession. They'll run
a little quick set where they bring Day up top,
curl off of that. Then she gets it back down
low and Day with a strong post move. That's her
first basket of the evening and Adena, all of a
sudden it's up eleven to four. Smith brings it back

(26:59):
for to try to dribble entry to the left side,
trying to hand off the Baker. Smith does a good job,
but Baker stays with it, gets it back, loses it momentarily.
Mclausty picks it up down low and as her shot
goes up, I think we're gonna have a hunt and
a foul on the rebound. Houseworth was called for the foul.

(27:21):
Fighting for the extra possession, so hunted and getting a
couple decent looks having trouble finishing around the rim. Give
a Deena a lot of credit. Just theres a lot
of activity on the defensive end from the Lady Warriors,
loving for a Dina seven fourteen left in the first half.
Here again, same set where they bring Day up off
the curls and then they'll Backstreen and take her down
on the post. This time house Worth fights her off

(27:43):
just a little bit more baral up top, goes all
the way down in the corner. Now they're going to
try to post feed Day one more time. She backs
in on house We're shot up again off the glass.
Fight the back post moves good looks for Day. She
had four and the Adena lead pushes the nine at
thirteen to four, Baker off a high ball screen. The

(28:07):
house Worth, now on the roll, gets a tour. Baker
ends up getting it back again trying to go down
the middle, but there's like three blue jerseys there and
again you have a diena credit. They're just absolutely not
going to open the middle up and as the ball
knocks loose, it'll be a held ball, which with a
Dina taking the possession to start the quarter and the

(28:27):
Huntington will get this one being ob under opportunity. Nice
little seal back there, ball knocked away. McCloskey comes up
with it. She gets all the way the rim, but
lay up attempt is short rebound day and Smith will
bring it up as a Diena threatens to push this
lead to double digits with a bucket. Farre on the
left side gives the holcum now on the flare screen

(28:50):
back to Farre tries a top the key. I think
the toe was on the line.

Speaker 16 (28:53):
Have been a two.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
No good rebound for hunting They push it up the
Baker on the left side. She tries to drive hard
to the left hand and again dribbles it off her
foot out of bound. Just you got to give jac
Smith a lot of credit so far. She's been terrific
on the defensive end, making it really, really difficult for
Baker to get loose. In the times Baker has been
able to get loose, there's been a couple more Blue

(29:16):
jerseys waiting on her coach. You're going to try to
flip the momentum here a little bit, going to extend
out in some pressure and aDNA able to get into
the two guard front and break that how come we'll
get into the middle, try a mid range jump or
no good, And again we got a jump ball on
the rebound, and.

Speaker 16 (29:36):
It's going to be.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
I was going to say the hunting and try to
step out of bound, but to be a Dina basketball,
so it'll be Smith the endbound A Dina sets up
a little triangle. Look, Holcome goes opposite corner, and that's
where they go with the ball, and she she dials
up a triple Marley Holcomb, A nice, a nice little
that gets a nice back screen. Smith throws the diagonal

(30:03):
to the corner the opposite I should say, to the
corner there and it's sixteen to four. A Dina out
to a twelve point advantage. Baker gets loose into the
right corner for three. That's one of her best looks
to night, but can't get it to go. Hal come
of the rebound, strong two hand pass and then another
basic touch pass. Adena shares the ball well and Pharaoh

(30:24):
lays it in and the file she's gonna have a
chance for the old fashioned three. Give Holcomb credit as
she pushed it ahead, and then the touch pass there
goes across. I believe it was a Ferald affairs. Now
that might have been sours on the assists. I apologize
on the assist. I believe it was sours with the

(30:45):
touch pass there and Ava laid it in. So Ava
fair with her first two of the night. She's gonna
get to the free throw line with a chance to
make it three. No good rebound McCloskey of Huntington. So
eighteen foour a diena five point fifteen to go here
in the first half. Baker brings it up, gives way

(31:07):
to Smith, Smith over to Houseworth, Houseworth hoi's it in
the right corner, back out in mclauskey. Good denial there
from Ferrell Olivia Farrell, and again the adena pressure just
has Huntington throwing it all over and they end up
throwing it away. Just give it again, you guys. You

(31:29):
got to give a Deena a lot of credit. Their
ball pressure has been outstanding. They're denying everywhere. At that time.
It pushed Huntington all the way out near half court
and they end up throwing it away. So eighteen four
a diena and they have the basketball four forty left
here in the first half, Ferrell to the left hand dribble.
Now they bring how come up top off a double screen,

(31:50):
nothing there.

Speaker 16 (31:51):
She goes back to Ferrel.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
She'll try a three and ava that's off the mark
with that one. Baker of Huntington with a rebound, tries
to push it ahead, trying to hit Tory Smith, and
it looked like Olivia Ferrell got her from behind.

Speaker 16 (32:09):
That's going to be.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
An Adena foule. Olivia Ferrell's first team's first here in
the second quarter, So Huntington will get it out underneath
the basket. In a one to fourth set, Holsworth with
a screen and a seal back. That's where they go
with it. Houseworth's strong moved, No Good gets her own rebound.

(32:31):
Now she kicks it back out Lydia Black, who's checked
into the game for Huntington, tries a little mid range jumper,
no good, and on the offensive rebound, we got another
Hunting foul Holsworth again. That's her second, both of which
have been on the offensive rebound attempt. So that kind

(32:54):
of puts Hunting into a little bit of foul trouble.
So eighteen to four Dina again, they go up top
day then they'll run the curl on both sides. She'll
go to her left side to Halcomb. Halcomb drives into
the middle kicks it out to make the extra pass
to the corner. That was Jones for Adena, who tried
to three nothing there a getting J C. Jones, just

(33:19):
a freshman into the game for the two shade blue.
Baker drops a bounce pass into the post of Houseworth.

Speaker 16 (33:25):
She puts it up on.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
The rim and that thing went all the way in
and came out. But she did get filed, so she'll
get a chance to go to the free throw line
where Huntington just needs to see the ball go through
the hoop and weather the storm here a little bit.

Speaker 12 (33:37):
You know.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
Obviously Adena one of the outstanding defensive teams in our areas.
You give them credit, but Huntington's had some opportunities at
the rim and the ball just simply won't go in
first free throw, no good. House Worth will get another
to see if the lood will come off the bucket
down here on the stage in at Huntington Heights School.

(34:02):
Second free throw, no good, outstanding box out there from
Ava Ferrell and J. C. Smith will bring it up.
Adena with the ball in an eighteen to four advantage
three forty to go first high right side Ava Ferrell
gives way to Halcomb. Halcomb up top today, Dale'll try three,
no good.

Speaker 16 (34:21):
J C.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Smith with an offensive rebound back out the Holcomb. She'll
try it three and she got it. Larley Holcombe a
good look at it. She has ten already in the
double figures. Remember, she comes in averaging sixteen a game
and Adena twenty one to four. Certainly wouldn't have expected
this in terms of as we said in the pre game,
these two teams usually play some really really close games,

(34:44):
and tonight Adena's just got it going on the defensive end.
They've got the three ball working on the offensive end.
Back content on offense, just trying to enter it to
the wing and just having a hard time. Lily Airy
makes her first appearance for the Lady. Huntsman Baker or
inbound it right in front of the Adena bench, use

(35:07):
it out to Smith. She's guarded there by Ava Farrell Smith.
Crossover dribble hits Baker in the left corner. Her three,
no good fight for the rebound. Housworth has it and
that's time. She's filed. As she went to put it up.
Get Bradley House with a lot of credit. Young lady
averages nine rebounds a game. You can certainly see why
that time she went up in the middle of three

(35:28):
blue jerseys and really two hand strong high pointing the
basketball there and good strong rebound and she went back up.
She got fouled, So she's going to go back to
the free throw line. First free throw no good. She'll
get another second free throw is good. So again just

(35:54):
a much need and just point for hunt and just
to stop the bleeding here a little bit twenty one
to fifteen to Deena Huntington's just got to be able
to string some stops together to see if they can
get this thing back close to ten before halftime.

Speaker 12 (36:06):
J C.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Smith brings it up the right point. Now she backs up.
Halcolm was going to set her a ball stream, they
waved her away. Now they get it over to the
left side Farrell and hal Comb with a nice back
toward cut and Ferrell delivers it on time and on
target and how come able to lay it in. She
has twelve twenty three five a Dina Tory. Smith has

(36:28):
it up top, gives way to Airy Arie with the
right hand dribble. Now Baker comes out into the handoff.
Baker looking to go downhill guarded by j C. Smith,
comes in good help from Halcombe, and again we have
a jump ball. So as I said earlier, you do
give a lot of credit to J. C. Smith, but
you also give credit to the team approach in terms
of they absolutely are not going to open up that

(36:50):
dribble gap for Baker. As she starts downhill, she's going
to draw that second and third defender. The helld ball
will give it back to Huntington Baker and bounds it
and now Arie has it out top, gives off to McClaskey.
Kloski uses the left hand dribbled to dribble it all
the way over into a hand off with Baker. Now

(37:11):
Arie has it all the way down in the right corner,
back out to Torrey Smith one fifty two left first
half twenty three to five a Dena Smith left hand
drive down the middle, almost loses it out to mcclousty,
now all the way out top to Arie Ariy guarded
there closely by Halcomb. Back out the Baker on top
and again Adana just will not open up the lane

(37:33):
at all. They use the ball stream and they switched
the screen does a dina. So now how come on Baker?
Baker gets the rimp shot up, no good, but McCloskey
there on the offensive glass, and again the common theme,
mclauskey gets foul. I'm going to go to the line here,
mclowsky and house Worth is really what the work on
the offensive glass. I mean, Huntington probably has four or

(37:54):
five offensive rebounds in the last three four minutes, but
unfortunately they haven't been able to come in the points.
This first first free throw from mcclauskey, no good. So
as you're struggling to score down twenty three to five,
all of a sudden, Huntington just one a five from
the free throw line. Here in the second quarter, mcclouskey

(38:15):
will get another. Mcclouskey comes in shooting about sixty five
percent from the line. Second free throw no good, but
again Adena having trouble wrapping up the possession with a rebound,
last touched by a dark blue jersey, going to give
it back to Huntington on the ob underneath Fox set
for Huntington. They try to get it in the corner

(38:37):
and they do to mcclauskey, and mcclauskey is going to
get fouled there Ava Ferrell just a little too close
and as mcclauskey ripped through into a dribble.

Speaker 16 (38:47):
Got tripped up.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
Av of Farrell's first but with the team's fifth leve
McCloskey going to.

Speaker 16 (38:54):
Go back to the line.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
And again the other thing that does. Obviously you need
to you know, you need the points. Her first free
throw is good. You need the points because you're down
still twenty three six. But coach Yurig is trying to
go into some different defensive looks. But when you don't score,
it really makes it hard in transition to get into
those Here's a second made free throw. Let's see what
coach Urig has in mind here in terms of getting

(39:19):
some stops. He does extend out right around with the
half court. They put Baker out on the point. It
only one two to two action. Baker gets really long
at the top, trying to get into flection. Good job
of Adena getting it into the middle of today down
low Ava Ferrell av A Ferrell having a nice all
around first half twenty five seven. After her layup, Adena

(39:40):
leads Huntington, Baker has it up top, guarded by Smith.
Now it's airy, she's guarded by Halcomb, but as they
use a ball string in the handoff, a lot of times.
Smith and Halcomb will just trade those back and forth.

Speaker 16 (39:53):
On the switch. Tory Smith has it.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
Nice back door cut from Baker, nice pass from Smith
and Ali Baker ladies and in Baker with six. Tory
Smith with the assist. She comes in average around three
a game, one of the top assists people in the
SVC twenty five nine a Dina clock at twenty five seconds.
Let's see if coach Day would like to take the
final shot of the half. It looks like that's what

(40:19):
he's trying to get. Let's see if Huntington will move
out and apply account here. So far Dina just able
to hold the ball out top.

Speaker 16 (40:28):
Now j C.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
Smith has it into a right hand dribble. She's gonna
play high ball screen off a day. She comes off, crosses, over,
hits Ava Ferrell in the mid range, jumper in the corner.
No good out comes Baker. She lets one fly from
half court and it sells just wide. As time expires,
we come to the halftime here in the township. It's
been all Lady Warriors is a Dina twenty five Huntington nine.

(40:54):
Stay with me as I'll be back for some halftime totals.

Welcome back Huntington High School.

Speaker 16 (44:13):
Here at halftime.

Speaker 2 (44:14):
I'm Shane Combs on the Hernstein Hundai SVC Game of
the Week here on ninety four Country w KKJ, and
of course worldwide on iHeart radio, and it's been all
Lady Warriors. Adena leads at twenty five to nine. You
go back to the first quarter, it's kind of a
slow start. Both teams a little bit sloppy. I think
defense deserves a lot of credit for that. But some

(44:34):
turnovers back and forth, and finally Adena able to muster
just a little bit of offense at the end of
the quarter and they let it nine to four at
the first break. And then in the second quarter, Marley
Holcomb continued to have the hot hands. She knocked down
two threes. And then on the other end, Huntington just

(44:55):
having a hard time scoring. They've been able to get
to the rim a couple of times, unable to finished.
They did get to the free throw line, they shot
eight free throws. Let's see, looking at my sheet here,
Adena has not even been to the free throw line yet.
Huntington shot eight free throws in that second quarter, but
unfortunately only able to knock down three of those. So
then in the second quarter Adena outscores Huntingdon sixteen to five,

(45:18):
and as a result, you add it all up and
we're the twenty five nine totals. So looking at some
individuals scoring as we highlighted in the opening. Marley Holcomb
comes in averaging right around sixteen a game. She already
has twelve. She's knocked down two three balls. Then some
other girls into the scoring column for coach day J C.

(45:39):
Smith has five, all of those that come in the
first quarter, and then Prenda had back to back post
smooth she has four points those in the second quarter,
and then Avin Ferrell had four points all in the
second quarter, and that equals to twenty five for Adena.
Over on the Huntington side, Ali Baker comes in average
in twenty two and a half per night, coming off

(46:00):
the twenty nine point performance in her last game and
getting the one thousand point mark, so Adena certainly will
take that total with Ali just with six here at halftime.
Those three phild goals for Ali Baker are the only
field goals for Huntington, and again they've had the eight
to pre throw attempts, four for mcclauskey and four for Houseworth.

(46:21):
Mcclauskey made good on two of those for two points.
Houseworth made good on one of them for one point.
So again you add that up for the nine and
that's where we're at at twenty five to nine with Adena.

Speaker 16 (46:32):
Out in front.

Speaker 2 (46:33):
I'll take a quick time out. When I come back,
we'll have some second half adjustments. We'll look for some
scores from around the area and what should be a
competitive second half. I really expect playing at home for
Huntington to make a little bit of a run here
and get back.

Speaker 16 (46:46):
In this thing.

Speaker 2 (46:47):
So, if you're listening to hernsiein Holliday SVC Game of

Speaker 10 (47:15):
So it's gentle on your skin.

Speaker 5 (47:17):

Speaker 10 (47:19):
If it's got to be clean, it's got to be

Speaker 22 (47:24):

Speaker 2 (48:00):
Welcome back Shane Combs at Huntington High School and we're
at the half here with a Dina leading Huntington twenty five. Tonight,
looking around at some other scores of ventures. Some of
our Huntington and Adena listeners had boys in action today.
The Huntington boys, fresh off at Nice SVC win last night.
They get another win this morning down at North Adams,

(48:22):
a classic they do for a coach Young and Huntington
comes away with a seventy four fifty seven win over Ripley.
So again Huntington's seventy four Ripley fifty seven. Then a
Dina boys also in action today. They come up a
little bit short Northwest sixty four a Dina forty eight.

(48:42):
So again a Dina boys dropped that one over on
the girls side had some SVC action this afternoon. Big
win for Coach Norman or Lady Bearcats is Paint Valley
defeats Southeastern fifty eighth the forty two. Cair Style led
the way with sixteen points in that one, Sophie Staffer
with fourteen, and Delaney Mane with thirteen. It's three Lady
Bearcats and double figures. Gracie Brown led Southeastern with seventeen,

(49:06):
so again, congratulations Coach Norman. It's Payint Valley's second straight win.
And again they knock off Southeastern. Uniota girls were in
action today. They beat Marysville sixty five fifty nine. Miley
Smith had thirty three in that one, and then I
was told Pike to beat Eastern Pike. Still looking for
the actual score on that. And again. You can let

(49:27):
Sidney know your scores if you have one, to pass
along their WKKJ dot com when you get it, or
the easiest way might just be on the social media
there on Twitter, Facebook, wherever you can get that information
to us. We'll make sure that we're getting posted. Stay
with me after the night's game. We'll have the postgame totals.
We'll hope to get a chance to talk to coach

(49:47):
urgon Coach Today if we're able to. And speaking of
coach interviews, I would encourage you to check out every
Friday night the Accurate Heating, Pooling and Plumbing Scoreboard Show.
As I joined Vanessa and Sydney there in the the station.
I know last night we were up around thirteen fourteen
coaches talking to a lot of boys and girls coaches
from throughout the area. Get most of the SPC coaches

(50:09):
on as well as some of the surrounding areas, and
that's a lot of fun. If you missed it last night,
talked to both coach Day and Coach Urik here on
the girls side, and Coach o Laker and Coach Rick
Eurick for our Huntington Medina listeners, And you can find
that there on the website of WKKJA. Find the podcast

(50:30):
there of the Scoreboard Show. Vanessa and Sendy do a
good job of putting that out on the social media
as well, so you can find those and on the
Spreaker page you can go back and listen to those again.
I appreciate so much each each coach taking the time
on the Friday night to call in, talk about their kids,
talk about their program. And obviously that type of show

(50:51):
does not work without that. And we're getting ten plus
coaches every week, so obviously we're getting great participation there. Well,
we come down under thirty seconds. Here's the teams go
from the halftime warm up over the bench. And if
I were to play coach for a second, I'd say,
if you're coach Andrew Day, you love where you're at.
You're gonna remind your kids that there's a lot of

(51:12):
pride in the Huntington program. They're going to come at
you hard here. You want to continue to do a
good job of making life hard in the scrimmage area
and taking care of the ball on the other end.
If Huntington is able to score the ball just a
little bit more, I expect the adjustment to be a coach,
you're looking to turn the pressure up just a little bit,
utilizing the defense in some way to see if he

(51:32):
can't help jump start the offense. I look for him
to extend the floor a little bit. He uses some
different types of diamond and one some one to three
to one extended some different things that he could do
to try to maybe create some easy opportunities in transition.
Looks like Huntington will come out just as they started
with Smith, Smith, McCloskey, housewith and Baker. Then looking down

(51:57):
here Dina with Smith, Sours, Halcom, Farrell and Day. So
here we go. Adena has the basketball to start. Jac
Smith has it out in the left wing. She penetrates
and kicks at the Ava Ferrell now Farrell look to penetrate,
reverse pivot, gives it back over to j. C. Smith
and her pass is taken away from Ali Baker. Baker

(52:19):
out in the open court to the left hand ribble
all the way to the rim, left hand Lett, no
good rebound. It looks like house where no good. Mcclauskey
gets it and then lays it in. So again Defense
gets out in transition and then as a result leads
to an easy opportunity and mcclauskey lays it in twenty
five to eleven. Hunted strikes first here in the second have

(52:41):
to cut the Adena lead to fourteen, and just like that,
another Adena pass taken away from Ali Baker. She goes
down spinning hoof will hit no good shot doesn't go
and again, I know Huntington's.

Speaker 16 (52:52):
Frustrated, but.

Speaker 2 (52:55):
Coach Urick has to be happy with the With the
defense of Ali Baker come up with two stills here
and coach Coach Day doesn't like it. He immediately is
going to call time out. It's just a short one,
so I'll stay here. And again I think I think
you ask yourself why the quick time out from coach Day?

Speaker 16 (53:14):
What's simple?

Speaker 2 (53:14):
He as I just said, I guarantee you the message
to his girls was that Huntington's going to come out
and play with a lot of pride here. You got
to be ready to match that. And on the first
two possessions, Ali Baker basically just takes the ball way.
Coach Day doesn't like that at all and wants to
make sure that he reiterates what I'm sure was the
halftime message, so that twenty five eleven A Dina seven

(53:39):
nine third quarter, following that short time out, both teams
back onto the floor. Dina will have it in the
full court, and again I would expect here, that's what
coach your guys in mind. I would expect a little
bit of an extension. He does allow Torry Smith to
go all the way up and pressure a little bit.
Baker will kind of go up and join her a

(54:01):
little bit as well, just kind of a token man
coming back high ball screen. Jacy Smith comes off of it,
gets all the way downhill and she's she's.

Speaker 16 (54:11):
Filed hit pretty hard. Takes a hard fall there. I
hope she's okay. Let's see.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
Thinks she just gathering herself there a little bit. That
was a good high ball screen. She was able to
get off to her right hand and it had a
lot of space to operate. She's fine, she's up there,
she'll she'll head to the free throw line and she
was hit on the shot.

Speaker 19 (54:33):
J C.

Speaker 2 (54:34):
Smith is one of the real stight sheet stuffers in
the league. Just does a lot to end by games.
And that's not even counting the incredible defense she plays
terrific talent for for coach Day. Her first free throw
is good. That was actually Dina's first free throw attempted
the entire night. Smith will get another one no good

(55:01):
house worth of Huntington with the rebound, so the one
of two trip to the line makes it twenty six eleven, Adena,
six point fifty to go. Third quarter, Baker brings it
up goes right side. It's Tory Smith. She'll go hard
into a left hand dribble. I think she wanted to
get to a handoff but denied well for Adena, so
now she'll keep it. Now she does get it the

(55:21):
Baker Baker left wing for the free ball, and she
got it Ali Baker utilizing a little bit of that
ball screen off of the hand off, and again you
can't go underneath that. Adena gets caught underneath. Baker gets
a good look at it. Twenty six fourteen lead down
to twelve. Back comes Ava Farrell. She penetrates in the middle,

(55:42):
picks the dribble up, kicks it back out.

Speaker 12 (55:44):
J C.

Speaker 16 (55:45):
Smith.

Speaker 2 (55:45):
She shot thanks from the three point line, pulls it
up in the midrange and knocks it down.

Speaker 16 (55:50):
Nicely done. J. C. Smith.

Speaker 2 (55:52):
She has all three of Adena's points here in the
second half, and it's twenty eight to fourteen. Adena lead
goes back to fourteen. Cory Smith across the timeline guarded
by Halcolm goes left wing the housework. Houseworth goes left
hand drive to the baseline. J. C. Smith there too

(56:13):
on the help side and Housewood loses it out of bounds,
going to turn it back over to the Lady Warriors.

Speaker 16 (56:22):
Jac Smith brings it up.

Speaker 2 (56:23):
Ali Baker now stretched out into that like that little
twenty three match. It almost looks like a one to
three to one, but it's kind of back into their
two three zone where they extend Baker out there and
see if they can get into deflection. Now off the trap,
mcclauskey steps in front of the past.

Speaker 16 (56:37):
She picks it off.

Speaker 2 (56:38):
She goes all the way to the other hen no
good on the layup. Fight for the loose ball. Bodies flying,
and I think we're going to have a loose ball file.
Let's see who they end up getting here. I think
it's in adena loose ball file because it looks like
they're staying on that end.

Speaker 16 (56:58):
Heave a Ferrell was.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
Lady Warrior called for the foul. It's her second, just
the team's first foul here in the third, so hunt
them with an ob under opportunity. Baker comes off of
a double screen. She tries a three from the left
wing and and I think she was hit on the arm.
They're gonna call. Let's see if they were. She was
behind the free point line. She's gonna get three of

(57:23):
them to holcome called for the foul. And as a result,
Baker all of a sudden, now seventy right around seventy
five percent from the line.

Speaker 16 (57:38):
On the on the year.

Speaker 2 (57:41):
She's gonna get three of them to try to cut
into this twenty eight to fourteen.

Speaker 16 (57:44):
First free throw, no good, that's free throw up.

Speaker 2 (57:52):
That one's good. She'll get one more. And so it's
like coach Jurig over from the Huntington bench. I'm going
to try to set up some pressure if he's able
to knock down this free throw, and Baker does second
free throw good, two out of three trip from the line.
Twenty eight to sixteen A Diena. Hunton extends it out

(58:14):
a little bit. JAC Smith across the timeline. Huh Hunton
trying to do a good job of faceguarding and chasing.
How come there a little bit out top ally, swing
it all the way over into the corner to sours,
back out J C.

Speaker 16 (58:31):
Smith.

Speaker 2 (58:32):
She tries a three and she bangs it in. J. C.
Smith from the top of the keys. She banks it
in and they all count the same thirty one, sixteen,
Adena back up fifteen right side. It's Ali Baker ball
screen there from Smith. Baker will spin move back to
the drive shot up on the rim. No good day

(58:55):
with the rebound good strong pivot against the trap. Now
if Adena goes they have a little bit of an opportunity.

Speaker 16 (59:01):
They push it up to j. C. Smith.

Speaker 2 (59:03):
She goes back to how come we'll try a three
no good fight for the loose ball saved by Houseworth
back in bounds. Great hustle from Tory Smith and Marley
Holcombe for Huntington and Adena, respectfully, and as a result
it's going to be a jump ball. Outstanding hustle for
those two young ladies sacrificing their body for a possession

(59:25):
and the jump ball. The possessionary favors Huntington. So thirty
one sixteen Adena four to twenty. Third quarter Tory Smith
up top. It's a flare screen from the closkey. Now
Baker has it down in the left corner. She tries
to post feed into Houseworth and a great job of
day working out around in front. She knocks it away.

Speaker 9 (59:47):
J C.

Speaker 16 (59:47):
Smith comes out.

Speaker 2 (59:48):
With it fall down low sours shot his block back
out the hal Comb mid range jump or no good day,
another offensive rebound for Adena, and she tried to kick
it out. The Holcome shoots filed so started with a
good post feed from Olivia Farrell down low, Soowers couldn't
get it to go. But but again Adena just continued
to win the offensive glass and as a result get

(01:00:11):
the common foul. Looked like Baker called for the hunting foul,
just the second team foul here in the third. So
it's going to be an ob underneath box set for Adena.
Smith nice little late action where on the screen, the
screen or type of action a little different than what
you normally see. Sours was able to bust open to

(01:00:32):
the backside block, but they couldn't convert. And on the
fight for the rebound, we had another jump ball this
time Arrow says Adena Basketball. So they'll come right back
into a box set. Coach Dale run three or four
different types of action, and so many times it's that
late action about three to four seconds in where they

(01:00:52):
get a real nice action to the backside. This time
they inter at ball side the halkum. She fakes the
hand off the Smith running back to then she keeps it.
She takes it to the rim and she scores. Marley
Holcom now with two her first two of the second half.
She leads all scores with fourteen. That comes hunting Airy
who's checked into the game has it up top. She's

(01:01:13):
guarded closely by Olivia Ferrell and coach Juring. I want
to take a time out, Let's take it with him.
Here is Shane Coles on the Hernstein Hondi SPC Game

Speaker 13 (01:01:35):

Speaker 14 (01:01:43):

Speaker 12 (01:01:47):

Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
Welcome back to Huntington High School, Shane Colmes here as
both teams come out of the time out being the
leagues at thirty three sixteen over Huntington. I mentioned earlier
in Today People, if you're wondering why Python Unioda did
not play, Uniota is playing in a non league some
classics today and Monday, and that's why Python's playing Easter
in that union. A Pithon game will be played at

(01:02:25):
a later date. Back to action. It's Huntington basketball. Holseworth
has it on the right wing. She shoots a step
back three, no good rebound for Beryl, and if she
tries to pivot against the trap, we're gonna have a foul.
Kind of an impressive move from Houseworth. There again, the

(01:02:45):
five nine freshmen creating her own shot. Again, it didn't
go in that time. That just kind of gives you
a glimpse of what we're in for from this young
lady's skill set over the next three years going to
be a really, really good one. Already averaging seven and
a half points nine rebounds. Now is a rookie Padena basketball.
How Come we'll bring it up guarded closely by Smith
comes across the timeline with the right hand dribble and

(01:03:09):
looks for a high feed there today they curl off.
How Come we'll come all the way back around into
a handoff. She'll try a three ball left wing and
why not she knocks it down. Nice little set there
from coach Day and uh Halcomb takes it off the
hand off and knocks down the triple. She's having quite
a night. She pushes the lead to twenty at thirty
six sixteen and side Bush acts hard, nice power move

(01:03:35):
and can't get the shot to go again. Huntington's had
the ball at the rim several times throughout the evening
and just unable to get the ball to go in.
Balls knocked out of bountains by a dean on the rebound,
So Huntington's turned to running ob under. They try to
get Baker up off a double. She trade takes a
three from the right wing. No good house worth there
on the offensive glass, and she's fouled on the put back.

Speaker 16 (01:03:57):
Then we'll go to the free throw line of shoe
two again.

Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Bradley house work, working really hard during the offensive glass,
does a nice job of not bringing it down, and
you can certainly see the contact on the arm. First
free throw up and good, good stroke there. You know,
I mentioned she was just one for four from the line.
You know, as a lot of freshmen go through different
things that they add to their game. You know, sad,

(01:04:24):
she says, Bradley only shoots about fifty three percent from
the free throw line. As I see that stroke, that's
a good look at stroke. She makes another. I think
that's something that will increase throughout her career, and she's
certainly someone who's going to get there a lot. So
right there is one thing she'll add to her game
that will out another three to four points on her average.
I would say by next year. Adena does a good
job of forrest facing, breaks the pressure and j. C. Smith,

(01:04:47):
as a result, drops a diagonal bounce past the Sours
who lays it in. That's Cameron's first bucket of the night,
thirty eight eighteen. Just like that, right back to twenty.
The advantage for a diena elbow entry. It was house
worth but good health defense and Adena knocks it away
outcome sours. Jac Smith thought about a three and then
got it, got caught in the middle. Poor spacing, tried

(01:05:10):
to give it up to Halcomb and end up throwing
it into the Adena bench. Just got a little bit
in between. Like I said, poor spacing didn't have the
angle to make the pass she wanted and it's going
to turn her.

Speaker 16 (01:05:20):
Back over to Huntington.

Speaker 2 (01:05:23):
So at thirty eight eighteen, a Dinna, it's one forty
seven third quarter Tory Smith with a dribble entry to
the right. She's going to try to bounce pass into
the block on a post feed the house Worth let
her too far and throws it out of bounds for
a turnover. Baker will extend out into the pressure here.
Smith and Holcomb in the two guard front will pass

(01:05:44):
it back and forth over her. Now Halcomb to the
middle of Today, back over to J. C. Smith, who's
going to drive hard. She tried to dump it off
to Sours a minute ago. That type of look led
to a layup. This time the rotation much much better
for hunting Aria Smith. Nice job knocking out of bound,

(01:06:05):
so Adena has it underneath. Tried a little flex action
off of an ob under for Halcombe. She's doubled there,
kicks it out for an elbow jumper for Sours. No good,
another rebound for Housewarf. She's had a nice night on
the glass. Baker will look the push left hand Dribble,
gives it up in the corner to Smith. Now it's
out's top mcclouskey. Mcclauskey will take a ball screen from Houseworth,

(01:06:29):
give way to the right wing to Tory Smith. She
tries to penetrate good health defense knocked away out comes
day with the loose ball. She's into the open court
one on one against Baker and lays it up over
the top of her for two Day does a nice
job of protecting the ball there, and then once she
got to the rim, she was able to use her
height advantage to lay it in. Nicely done forty eighteen.

(01:06:50):
And on the other end, a little miscommunication, Huntington's going
to throw it away and by the time Ali Baker
hustles it down in the back court, it's going to
be a back court by a l on the over
and back and Adana will have the basketball barrel. Ava
Farrell returns the lineup in place.

Speaker 16 (01:07:09):
In a day.

Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Looks like Taylor Tisdale makes appearance here for Huntington, as
does push Acts, replacing Houseworth and Baker thirty eight seconds ago.
Let's see if coach Day would like to have the
final shot of the third quarter.

Speaker 20 (01:07:28):
J C.

Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
Smith has it all the way out by the ten
foot volleyball line now gives way to Ava Farrell. She
swings through and J. C. Smith gets it back. Now
they drop it into the post to Halcomb and if
she goes to make her post move, she's fouled on
the floor. Let's see there, that's going to be just

(01:07:50):
the fourth team foul of the third quarter, so not
quite a free throw opportunity for Halcombe. So with twenty
two seconds to go, box set on the be under
screen the screen or Ava Farrell comes out on the
other side. Shot might have been blocked there by Tory Smith.
But how Come gets it back and lays it in Marley,
how Come right place, right time, lays it in forty

(01:08:13):
two eighteen A Diena back comes Tory Smith. She goes
left side. McCloskey tries to corner three and got it.
Liah McCloskey. She just five here in the second half,
seven overall, and she cuts the lead of forty two
to twenty one. And the long attempt there for a
Dina no good.

Speaker 16 (01:08:33):
Got the buzz.

Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
We've we've come to the end of three forty two
twenty one. It's been all Dina. You're listening to Hernstein
Honda sec Game of the Week on ninety four Country,
they'll be KKJ.

Speaker 4 (01:08:46):

Speaker 18 (01:09:01):

Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
It'd be too close trade in an Additional terms apply.

Speaker 15 (01:09:16):

their carrying and dedicated professionals. Each individual's life is unique,

(01:09:38):
and selecting how her funeral home ensures their tribute will
be just as unique how her funeral home helping families remember,
share and heal.

Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
Welcome back to Hunton High School. Started the fourth quarter.
We'll start with a haunted possession and quick to action ality.
Baker right down the middle, gets a shot up in
it goes forty two to twenty three. Baker with two
more cuts the lead back in the under twenty hunting
that's got to go right now, down load to Corin

(01:10:14):
Day on the other end. She makes a nice strong
move and as she comes up for the left, she's
hit on the arm. Shot does not go, but she's.

Speaker 16 (01:10:21):
Going to go to the.

Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Free throw line and shoot two. That last two for
Baker gives her unofficially thirteen on the night. She had
six in the first half out of five more and
then in the third quarter than this two here in
the fourth first free throw per day is good day.

(01:10:47):
Next free throw for day no good. Good box out
from Houseworth gives way to Baker. Baker drives hard to
the right hand, gets all the way to the rim,
shot up and she's going to be called for travel.
A little bit of contact on the drive. She's lost
her footing there and going to be called for the
travel to turn it back over to Adena. So forty

(01:11:08):
three twenty three a Dina seven fifteen to go in
the ball game, Halcomb brings it up hunting a little
bit of a running jump. Sours does a good job
of coming back to the ball. Her shot she tried
to take on House with Hawthwart's nice job straight up
gets the block, shot pushes it out to Tory Smith.
Tory Smith will try a left wing mid range jumper.

(01:11:29):
Outstanding box out there for Nava Farrell and to come
away with a defensive rebound gives away to Halcomb. Adena
had a little opportunity, but again if you think time
and score, they don't really need it up twenty here
six forty five, the clock becomes your friend Sours on
the left side, over to Olivia Farrell. Now Sours on
the flare screen gets it back, penetrates Dina with nice

(01:11:53):
patients here, gonna turn the offense over. You know they
use the backstreen flare screen. And again as they turn
it over here they can really really grind. They're a
tough team to come from behind on because they don't
they don't often give you live ball turnover to go
the other way with again, back and forth we go,
swinging the ball side to side. Now we've got Pharaoh

(01:12:14):
Olivia Farrell in the left corner for free, no good.
How come fighting for the loose ball in the rebound
and it looks like toy Smith it was able to
tie her up. Jump ball Possessionaire is going to keep
us on this end for a Dina, So a Dina
will continue to possess the basketball.

Speaker 16 (01:12:32):
Six oh six to.

Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
Play in the game forty three to twenty three, Adena
on top Padena into a box set again, try to
get hol come on the backside, not there they'll lob
it up top to Day in Day trying to go
out to the corner. The one official had it going
out of bounds, going to Hunton. The other official steps
in and says there is the deflection which will keep

(01:12:53):
it a diena basketball. Good officiating. Theres to help one
another with the A so side O B for Adena.
They get it into Ferrell, back to Sours, Sours into
the middle and she's she's fouled on the drive. Baker's
foul at Ali Baker. That's her third second team foul.

(01:13:18):
Here in the fourth quarter, as J. C. Smith returns
replacing Olivia Farrell for Adena and J. C. Smith will
step out of bounds and inbound it for Adena again
in the box set a more traditional screen the screener
and Day comes wide open on the Byke side and
lays it in good execution. Day with another phil goal.

(01:13:39):
She has nine on the ninth, five point fifty to
go forty five twenty three. Adena Closkey brings it up,
goes to Houseworth out top Tory Smith. Tory Smith and
Brayley Houseworth played a little two man game. Tried to
hit her on the roll. Now they try to throw
it inside a Dina was going in front and behind

(01:14:00):
and it just got a little too physical on the entry.
Good positioning from Adena, but again just too much contact.
And again Bradley Houseworod does such a good job of
keeping the body control.

Speaker 16 (01:14:11):
She draws the file.

Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
Just a common file first of the of the fourth
quarter for a diena ob under Housewarth's coming right down
the middle, gets it and lays it in Brailey Housewarth's
first bucket, first field goal of the night. She has
five on the evening, forty five twenty five Adena in front,
by twenty back on the other end. How come off

(01:14:36):
of a flare screen looks to penetrate. Now gives way
to Ava Ferrell. She'll swing at Sours the J. C.
Smith all the way over in front of the Adena bench.
Now back out top the Sours backdoor opportunity from Holcombe.
Sowers lost it as she tried to make the past.
Tory Smith comes out with the steel. She penetrates, kicks
it out right cornered. Great look for Ally Baker, just

(01:14:57):
didn't go in and Adena with the defensive read. Adina
leads it by twenty forty five twenty five four to
forty eight, Holcome just walks it up no hurry at all,
gives us the J. C. Smith goes left wing to fall.

Speaker 16 (01:15:12):
Now back to J. C.

Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
Smith who tries to penetrate and kicks at the sours
and again Adana just going to try to eat the clock.
A good back door from Holcomb shot is blocked by Smith,
but again on that reversal, Hunton in a position.

Speaker 16 (01:15:23):
That they've got to step out and to die.

Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
Alcolm does a good job sprinting back door at that
time gives Smith's credit for the block shot out of bounds.
The Deana will keep it box set underneath four thirty
three to play in the game and Deana by twenty
same exact screen to screen or that time. Huntington defends
it just a little bit better. Then they lose Day
on the end Balne they did a good job on

(01:15:47):
the original, but then as the ball got kicked all
the way out top to Halcombe, Huntington win in to
kind of rematch and just left Day all alone underneath.
They find her down low and they on the recovery
they keep her from scoring to bucket, but they fire
her in the act of shooting. So Day going to
the free throw line. The first free throw is good

(01:16:09):
that pushes Prin Day unofficially on mice sheet here to
double figures with ten on the night. Second free throw
also good, forty seven five. Adena pushes the lead to
twenty two. Baker pushes it up nice two hand passed
over the top of Deena. It's just kind of slow

(01:16:31):
to get back. Taylor Tisdale down on the other end,
gets a nice two hen chest pass from Baker and
lays it in hunting to try and apply a little
bit of pressure. Adena does a pretty good job and
Days fight out top and if that's on Baker, it's
her fourth. It is so Baker's fourth of the game,

(01:16:55):
Hunton's fourth team foul of the fourth quarter and at
twenty seven a Dina with a twenty point leading the
ball and they throw it away on the side out
of bounds. Out comes Huntingon with a transition opportunity. Pory
Smith kicks it out. Looks like Lydia Black for three.
No good fight for the loose ball and the rebound

(01:17:16):
looks like Black and Day both come down with it
at the same time. So the jump ball arrow will
favor Huntington. Ball entered inside to Tisdell tried to go back.
Looked like shots bush ats, but ball got knocked out

(01:17:38):
of bounds by Dina. Said, Huntington will keep it. Baker
comes off the screen in the right corner. That's where
they go with it. Baker back out top to Tory
Smith Smith left wing. It's Lydia Black again. Huntington's gonna
have to go a little bit here. Now it's Ali
Baker should try to split the double team, and he does.

Speaker 16 (01:18:01):
She's fouled.

Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
Foul on the floor hunting another underneath opportunity. Can't say
enough about Adna's defense tonight. They come in averaging thirty
eight point eight a game, and that's certainly been on
display here this evening, holding a good hunting team to
just twenty seven at this point. Swing it all the
way around Lydia Black one more time for three. This

(01:18:24):
time it goes again another freshman, another five to nine
freshmen and watching the ball come out of her hand.

Speaker 16 (01:18:30):
On the three. That's a good looking stroke.

Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
That's going to be quite a weapon for coach eerg
over the next three and a half years. Here back
comes a Dina. It's left side, soeurs ALcom has it
up top shot Bake from three tried to drive to
the rim. The ball was knocked away, but it goes
off her leg, goes out of bounds, going to go
back over to Huntington Hali Baker will give way to

(01:18:54):
Tory Smith and with three minutes to go, Smith will
bring it up across the timeline here guarded by Halcomb.
Smith off a ball stream now Conti to the left wing,
goes back up to the top to Tidale, tries to
give way to Baker. Now Baker has it trying to

(01:19:14):
go one on one good health defense from J. C.

Speaker 16 (01:19:17):
Smith.

Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
She hits Tidale on the roll, shot up no good
rebound by Holcombe two thirty five in counting Adena by
seventeen forty seven thirty holcome comes back. They swing it
all the way around the sours and then how come
off of that back stream that first option in the
half court set she catches. She scores. It's her first

(01:19:39):
field goal of the of the excuse me of the
fourth quarter. She has twenty one to lead all scores
on the night, well over her average of sixteen. Because
that average is going to climb as she's one of
the top five scores in the SVC back comes hunting
Baker will try a three. That's no good fight for
the loose ball out comes sours with it. Show us
to push yes. Two on one pass over the left side.

(01:20:01):
Av A Farrell got too far under the rim, hit
the backboard underneath, but the ball comes back to her.
Now Adana will pull it back out. Coach coach to
day is begging them to see time and score here
forty nine seven. Now they are going to pull it
back out. Huntington's going to have to chase and trap
a little bit. J C. Smith, Rley Halcomb and Ava

(01:20:24):
Farrell just kind of spreading out there a little bit
and trying to share the basketball back in.

Speaker 16 (01:20:29):
Forties go to have a foul.

Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
Ali Baker commits the foul that's going to be her fifth.
So that'll be the evening there for the outstanding senior guard.
Deana did a good job on Ali Baker tonight. She
continued to play hard. She did some good things. Because
Jac Smith's going to go line I had unofficially at

(01:20:53):
Ally Baker, I believed for thirteen. I'll get those postgame
totals to you here. Stay with me after the game
for the post game is Jac Smith. First free throw
no good. So Ali Ali did get the double figures.
But Dina just did a good job from a team
concept of really really making it hard on her this evening.
Second free throw no good. Rebuild his deal comes hunting in.

(01:21:17):
Ari's got it across the timeline. Arie uses high ball
Streen there from Tisdale back up top. It's Lydia Black
order the right side. Wish actually tries to penetrate and
now comes back out Black. I'll try another three. That's
short j C. Smith with the rebound, she reverses out,

(01:21:39):
and I think coach Coach Day using a time out
just simply to get a sub, and coach You're gonna
utilize the same thing to get a sub in here
as well. So we'll try to get some names here
to you. Alexis petted into the game for Adena.

Speaker 20 (01:21:53):
J C.

Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
Jones's return. She played some minutes in the first half.
Peyton Lee master An now into the game for Adena.

Speaker 16 (01:22:01):
Ow top.

Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
That's Evelyn Ramseys. Adena is just going to try to
run the offense, run the clock. I believe it's Joelyn
Jet that I missed on the Adena side, so I
think I have all five Adena. Then on the hunted side, Arie,
who's played throughout the night's.

Speaker 16 (01:22:21):
Into the game.

Speaker 2 (01:22:22):
Tisdale. Ari brings it across the timeline back up top air.
Now Arie has it back forty seconds to go. Both
teams pretty much emptied the benches here at this point,
and Uh going to just about wrap this one up.
Hunt and still running some half court offense, trying.

Speaker 16 (01:22:44):
To get a shot up.

Speaker 2 (01:22:45):
That's Tidale over on the left wing. She'll use a
right hand dribble to try to get to the middle.
Now a hard drive to the whole shot up.

Speaker 16 (01:22:52):
No good.

Speaker 2 (01:22:54):
Ball comes out, and Adena will go ahead and push
with Jones off the dribble. Now we'll pull it back
up and Coach Day will ask her to bring it
back out and dribble the clock out. So ten seconds
in county Adena forty nine, Huntington thirty. That's pretty much
going to do it here. From hunt in high school,
it's been all Lady Warriors in an impressive performance.

Speaker 16 (01:23:16):
This is Shane Collins. Make sure you.

Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
Stay with me on the postgame here and I'll get
some totals for you. If we get an opportunity, we'll
try to get Coach Day and Coach Urig up here
but again. Congratulations a Deena in the forty nine thirty victory.

Welcome back Haunton High School. This is Shane Colmes on
the hernsiein Honda SPC Game of the Week ninety four
country to the KKJ and of course worldwide on the
iHeartRadio for postgame coverage. And you look at this one.
It was all Adeena the sevening as the Adena Lady
Warriors knockoff Huntington forty nine to thirty. And I guess
if I had to give a first reaction, they would

(01:27:12):
be completely unfair not to start with the defensive effort
of Adena. We highlighted in the pregame coverage and we
ended up coming back to it once or twice during
the actual game. That Adena comes in averaging thirty eight
point eight points allowed on the defensive end, and if
you take away the outstanding opponents of Sheridan and Uniota,

(01:27:33):
that number actually goes all the way down to thirty four.
And they were even under that tonight, only holding a
Huntington to thirty. Now, to Huntington's credit, I thought they
did a pretty good job as they settled in of
getting the vaull to the rim a little bit unable
to finish. They got to the free throw line there
in the second quarter and struggled a little bit and
things just got away from them. Adena had been a

(01:27:55):
team that had been struggling to score, even though they
had averaged forty two point five on the year. Really
over the last two three weeks, with the exception of
maybe their CHILICOFEE win where they scored the season high
sixty nine, they've had trouble scoring in certain games. I
know there are two piked and losses have been in
the low thirties, and just the defense has been there.

(01:28:16):
But as I've talked to Coach Day throughout the year
on the Scoreboard Show, that's been a big, big issue.
Speaking of that Scoreboard Show, I did want to give
one more shout out to the Accorate Heating, Cooling and
Plumbing Scoreboard Show. It's every Friday night. We usually get
started around nine forty five. I head to the station
after whatever game I'm calling at that time, and I
joined Vanessa and Sydney back there and we talked to

(01:28:40):
as many girls and boys coaches from the area as possible.
Usually average anywhere from about eleven to fourteen coaches a week,
and that's been a lot of fun. You look back
at last night's podcast or they're on the Spreaker page
Dana and Huntingon fans listening in. I did get a
chance to talk to coach Yurig and coach Day also
got a chance to talk to coach Rick again Coach Olaker.

(01:29:03):
The boys were in action again today. If you miss that,
if you weren't with me earlier, I was telling you
that Huntington Boys they make it back to back after
beating pikedon last night. Huntington beat Ripley today seventy four
to fifty seven, and the Adena Boys lost sixty four
to forty eight against Northwest. So again, looking back at

(01:29:24):
the totals here, I think I got them for you.
Let's go ahead and take a look at the individual
scoring from this evening. First, on the winning side for
the Adena Lady Warriors, they're outstanding five to seven. Sophomore
Marley holcom Let all scores unofficially there with twenty one.
It was also in double figures for cren Day, who
got to the free throw line four times made three

(01:29:45):
of those. She finished with eleven. It was eight for J. C. Smith, who,
as normal, played her outstanding all around games. She comes
in averaging five and a half assist and she certainly
was probably knocking on the door of that total this
evening did a real nice job defensively on Ali Baker.

Speaker 16 (01:30:01):
But again I.

Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
Would I would say that it would be unfair to
give credit to just one kid. I thought it was
a cleft of effort. As you finish off, Ava Farrell
had four, JC Jones with three and Cameron Sowers with two.
Over on the Huntington side got Ali Baker with thirteen.
Leah McCloskey was seven. Brayley Houseworth I had five, and
she was out standing on the glass. I apologize I

(01:30:23):
don't have rebounding totals for you, but she certainly was
outstanding rebounding the basketball tonight for the Lady Huntsman. And
then Lydia Black added three, Taylor Tisdale two, and you
add all that up and you get the thirty four
the Lady Huntsman. My pleasure to be joined by Andrew Day,

(01:30:43):
and I want to make sure that technology wise there
with me flying solo tonight, that Sidney let me know
if we're okay back here in the studio if but
I think we got everything right, coach, did you hear me?

Speaker 16 (01:30:54):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (01:30:55):
And here I can yeah, okay, Well, hey, first fall, congratulations.
I was highlighting on the air, you guys come in
on the averaging given up right around thirty nine a game,
you take away your shard in the Uniota game, that
game goes all the way, that total goes down to
thirty four, and you're even better than that to night
at thirty.

Speaker 16 (01:31:10):
It's hard to evaluate.

Speaker 2 (01:31:11):
This game from my standpoint and not at least highlight
your team effort defensively on Ali Baker, but really the
entire Hunting squad.

Speaker 24 (01:31:18):
Yeah, it's something we talk about all the time. Girls
probably get sick of it, how much we work on defense.

Speaker 6 (01:31:23):
But I thought the way we were locked in on
the scatting report from the very beginning tonight.

Speaker 24 (01:31:30):
I thought, just the attention to detail. I thought we
were the first team on the floor all night, and
those are the things we talked about.

Speaker 6 (01:31:39):
And to be able to do that for four quarters
all the way through, it was really satisfying. And it
was fun to watch our girls play the way they
played defensively.

Speaker 2 (01:31:49):
You know, coach, I think one thing that really helps
you defensively is how well you dribble, pass, and catch.
Even though we've talked about your issue scoring the basketball,
the times I've seen you, it hasn't been a sloppy
turn it over mess now tonight, give Hunton credit. I
thought they called some some issues.

Speaker 16 (01:32:04):
For you too.

Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
But but the reason I say that it does two things. One,
it doesn't allow Hunting out in transition, where Baker is
extremely dangerous in the open court. But then two, it
doesn't allow coach Jurig, who I think does a good
job of mixing defenses, kind of ties his hands because
he's playing in the live ball the way they kind
of talk about that a little bit.

Speaker 24 (01:32:22):
Yeah, you know, so in the past, the past few years,
we've played a little faster, which which.

Speaker 6 (01:32:27):
Kind of lends itself to some turnovers at times.

Speaker 24 (01:32:29):
But we've talked a lot this year about.

Speaker 6 (01:32:33):
The need to execute in the half court, and part of.

Speaker 24 (01:32:36):
That is is not getting the ball away and because
that that leads to easy offense for the other team.
And so again, yet you're right, Huntington did some things
defensively that I think caused some of our turnovers tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:32:49):
But for the most part, I thought we handled the
ball really well and did a good job of getting
the ball to the spots that we wanted to get
it to.

Speaker 16 (01:32:56):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:32:56):
I look down to scoring column. These are all un official,
of course. I have how come for twenty one day
for eleven Smith with eight and I you know, I
wanted to highlight J. C. Smith with you a little bit.
She just I always use the term stat sheet stuff
or it just seems like every time I watch her play,
I can count five, six, seven different with that that
bounced past. You can see where I'm sitting here that
bounced past. She made them the first quart I thought

(01:33:17):
it was a huge play in the game because early
in the game, you know, it looked like it was
just gonna be about seven to four. Is kind of
that ugly. It's kind of what I pre in the
pregame coverage, kind of what I expected.

Speaker 16 (01:33:27):
Ye, but I thought that.

Speaker 2 (01:33:28):
Particular play kind of jump started your kids and really
really kind of not only put you up nine four,
but let into the second quarter a little bit.

Speaker 6 (01:33:36):
Yeah, it did.

Speaker 24 (01:33:37):
And she makes those kinds of plays all the time.
She makes those kinds of plays that give us a
jolt and she sees the floor so well, my goodness,
just makes the pass after pass that is just the
right play. And as a result, did things happen when
when the ball is in Jason's hands? So yeah, she

(01:33:58):
thought had her best game of this season tonight. And
you come on the road against a good team. He
needs your point guard to play well, and she's certainly
delivered well.

Speaker 2 (01:34:07):
Absolutely, and the wind moves you to nine and five overall,
a five and three in the SVC. And again there's
no easy nights off. I was just highlighting Paint Valley
beating Southeastern the day and the SVC and so forth.
So you know, tell tell us what you have coming
up and kind of what you hope to get out
of them moving forward here.

Speaker 6 (01:34:23):
Yeah, so we've got another full week next week.

Speaker 24 (01:34:25):
We start with Southeastern on Monday, and you know, I
know they struggled maybe in their past couple of games,
but they just present such a unique challenge and how
they play, the way they play, you just don't see
it basketball played that way anymore. So it's gonna present
an unique challenge.

Speaker 6 (01:34:42):
And we've got Paint Valley, who you just mentioned, who's
playing better.

Speaker 24 (01:34:46):
On Wednesday, and then we got UNID on Saturday, so
it's a it's another full week and we'll take tomorrow
off and re reconvene on Monday and get after it.

Speaker 2 (01:34:56):
Well, coach, congratulations, you're kind of one of those teams
I labeled dame just come tournament time. I know you
guys go through your struggle sometimes scoring the ball, but
but man, when you take care of the ball and
you defend the way you do it gives you a
chance on every night and real excited to follow you
down the stretch.

Speaker 16 (01:35:10):
Appreciate you taking some time with me.

Speaker 6 (01:35:11):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 16 (01:35:13):
Again.

Speaker 2 (01:35:13):
That's head coach Andrew Day of the Adena Lady Warriors.
And I'll tell you what, Sydney, I think. I'm gonna
go ahead and just stay right here because it looks
like we have coach Urig of Huntington as well. Love
the opportunity to talk to him as coach. Jurg's gonna
step in here and Kle will get those headphones there
and make sure you're you're hearing me. Okay, okay, well,

(01:35:36):
coach listen. As a coach myself, I certainly appreciate you
taking the time. I know, kind of a frustrating night.

Speaker 16 (01:35:42):
Ya.

Speaker 2 (01:35:42):
I was just talking to Andrew. I thought in the
pregame coverage, I kind of pregame or kind of previewed
the game as being somewhat of an ugly low scoring game,
and the first quarter is kind of back and forth.
I thought the play Smith made right there at the
end of the first quarter kind of jumpstop them with
a nice skip bounce pass and so forth, just kind
of take me back there and the first half from

(01:36:02):
your perspective.

Speaker 25 (01:36:04):
No, absolutely, I think you hit the nail on the
head with the fact that it's normally a low scoring
battle both teams, you know, the physicality and then being
able to guard each other and give Andrew and his kids,
I mean a lot of credit. Like we just talked
about in the locker room, we've set it for you know,
two or three years. They've they've been the standard around
here for several years with with Andrew there, and they're

(01:36:25):
very physical. They're now to goard to basketball. They do
a great job getting up in you and it caused
us fits tonight. You know, if you watch the game,
even from the bench or from afar, you probably looked
at it and Dodd Man adena can run an offense
and Hunington kent. But that's a testament to their kids.
I mean, they got up in us, They caused us fits,
couldn't really get in a lot of stuff, and then
you know, once you get down sixteen or seventeen, start

(01:36:46):
pressing a little bit, it gets even worse. So again,
second quarter, I felt like the end of the first quarter,
in the first few minutes of the second quarter, it
got away from us a little bit. Anytime in this game.
You know, my kids are intelligent enough to know when
you're playing a team as good as a Dina stretched
out like that, it's gonna.

Speaker 16 (01:37:01):
Be tough getting back to it.

Speaker 25 (01:37:02):
So I felt like that was when they stretched it
out to you know, fourteen fifteen there right before that
the half that was big.

Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
Well coaching fairness to your kids, and I think this
will show up on film. You guys had a lot
of opportunities playing through some of the contact. You got
the ball to the rim a couple of times you
couldn't finish. You got to the free throw line I
think eight times there in the in the second quarter.
I only could cash in on three of them. So
you certainly had opportunities where that that twenty five nine

(01:37:30):
there at the half easily could have been somewhere around
twenty three fourteen fifteen. Take us into the locker room,
obviously a big hill to climb there. A little bit,
you know, kind of come out in the third quarter.
I know you're gonna try to turn it up a
little bit. I gave you a couple of turnovers here early.
Did you like the way the kids came out of
the half. I thought they they gave you a little
bit there early in the third quarter.

Speaker 25 (01:37:49):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean at halftime, you know, when you
miss some shots like that, it gets stretched out. Like
you said, you're not gonna beat really good basketball teams
when you're not making shots. It makes it very difficult.

Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
Halftime.

Speaker 25 (01:38:02):
We tried not the panic. It wasn't a lot of uh,
you know, you wanted to go in there and break
some stuff whatever else with that, but again, you know,
you were playing a good basketball team.

Speaker 2 (01:38:10):
I wouldn't go solve anything.

Speaker 25 (01:38:11):
We talked a little bit, came out in that little
triangle in too and kind of you know, took away
their their best two players and then you know, played
three on three there for a little bit and was
trapping and just trying to get it out of their
hands and missed a couple layups down there. It might
have got it back to a ten point game. But
you know, again, we give our kids credit. They fought
in the third quarter. That's what I told them after

(01:38:31):
the after the basketball game. I mean, there was things
that that we did do well. Just uh, very very
disappointing the way we've been playing. You know, your home floor,
just just a disappointing night. Sometimes you uh, sometimes you
take one like that and you got to move on.

Speaker 2 (01:38:45):
Well, coach certainly are gonna keep you very long, but
there's no way I can let you out of here
without really highlighting Brayley house Worth a little bit. Just
every time I watch your playoff, like she gets better.
You know, she's playing against the senior tonight and and
day and and I thought I didn't individually keep rebounding total.
She had to be over ten. I know she comes
in one of the best rebounders in the league. Jenny
has the five points, the three for six from the
free throw line. I was highlighting that that free throw

(01:39:07):
percentage with that stroke's going to improve throughout her career.
I just think the ceiling is really, really high on
that young lady. Talk about your your rookie there in
the post a little bit.

Speaker 25 (01:39:16):
Oh yeah, she her best basketball is by far ahead
of her. You know that class in general's played a
lot of basketball. You know, Lydia played pretty well tonight
stretches hit a big three there late, but no Brayley.
Her best basketball is ahead of ever. And the more
confidence she plays with, you know, there's nights where she's
really really hard for teams to guard when she gets
some confidence going. We tried early to play through her

(01:39:37):
a little bit. We haven't done that much. You know,
I'll go back and look at the film. Maybe that
was my fault that we you know, we ran some
different a little bit of different stuff because Andrew does
a great job scout and does a great job taking
away a lot of your man stuff, and we ran
a couple of different things, tried to get her involved early.
You know, she's going to be a big, big player
for us, not only into the future, but she's a

(01:39:59):
she's a big play for us right now and down
the stretches we move into, you know, the end of
the season and tournament play.

Speaker 2 (01:40:05):
Well, coach, last question, I'm looking at it if I
have this right coming up coming at Piked in on Wednesday,
obviously going to be a big game in the standings there.

Speaker 16 (01:40:13):
Talk to just a little bit about that match.

Speaker 25 (01:40:15):
Old, uh, you know, just beat a Dina by three
the other night, and actually it's beat a Diena twice
this season. So you know, our next week's at Piked
and Unwed at home and then at Southeastern, So it
doesn't get any easier for us, but again it gives
us an opportunity to play three times next week. The
Kelly girls a great, great basketball player, one of the
better players in our leg handles basketball really well. And

(01:40:35):
then the Forbes girls playing you know, as good as
anybody right now. I'd seventeen against Andrew the other night,
really controlled the game. So we got our hands full
this Wednesday. But we get back into gym on Monday
and Tuesday and prepare and go down there and see
what we can do.

Speaker 12 (01:40:50):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:40:50):
I watch that match up the first time. I know
you had a big win here at home against Piked,
and I'll expect another good one on Wednesday. Hey, listen,
as a coach, I know how hard it is sometimes
after a loss, win or lose, you're always first as
always willing to talk about your kids. Certainly appreciate you
coming up and giving me some time.

Speaker 25 (01:41:03):
He and I appreciate it. I appreciate you guys being
here and we don't want to miss a chance on
you guys being able to come back.

Speaker 2 (01:41:08):
Thank you, Appreciate you again. That's head coach Kyle. You're
even with the loss tonight Huntington just drops to nine
and four overall, six and three inside the SVC and
again that app piked and Wednesday night's going to go
along one Well, I will step aside for one minute
and I'll come back and put a rap on this.

But it was actually our old detergent ah huh. So
we switched to tide free and gentle.

Speaker 21 (01:42:19):
Tide Free and Gentle provides an excellent tide clean and
it doesn't leave behind irritating residues like dyes or perfumes,
so it's gentle on your skin.

Speaker 5 (01:42:28):
Case closed.

Speaker 10 (01:42:30):
If it's got to be clean, it's got to be
tied free and gentle.

Speaker 2 (01:42:40):
Welcome back Hunton High School, Shane Colmes. One last time here,
just to go through the scoring. I had one adjustment.
Dare appreciate John Bruce helping me out on some totals.
I had Marley Holcomb for twenty one and I had
day for eleven per a day, but also had a
three that I had put in the wrong box that
it looks like jac Smith also deserves credit for being

(01:43:02):
in double figures tonight with eleven, so again one more
time Holcombe twenty one, j C. Smith eleven and then
Day eleven and again on the Adina side, pretty good
balance as they score a total of forty nine, well
over their season average, and they went at forty nine
thirty one last time. If you weren't with me there.
On the Huntington side, Ali Baker led the way with thirteen,

(01:43:24):
Leah McCloskey with seven, Bradley Houseworth with five, Lydia Black
with three, and Taylor Tisdale with two. So coming up
should be a busy week. I have some different action.
Make sure you're checking the schedule and then again checking
out next Friday night. The accurate heating, cooling and plumbing
scoreboard show myself, Vanessa and Sydney after the game usually

(01:43:45):
get going about nine to forty five, so that should
do it here for Huntington High School. Thank you to
Sydney back in studio, I'm Shane Holmes's final score for
the final time Adena wins it forty nine thirty over Huntington.

Speaker 1 (01:43:58):
So long everyone, I've been listening to high school basketball
