Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is high school and basketball on ninety four Country
w KKJ. Now, let's head the game site for today's
pregame show on ninety four Country.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Good anything, everyone, and welcome to the Hernstein hundaiy SBC
Game of the Week on ninety four Country WKKJ. Shane Combs,
Lou Postage back a third straight night out of here
as we been able to get Zane Trace to the convo,
been able to get Uni out of the convo and
tonight and we will try to get the Huntington Huntsman
there as well later this weekend. And Lou is a
welcome you in. It's a Division six District semi final action.
(00:38):
And then, and I tell you this, this Hunting team
has been an interesting one to study in preparation for
tonight's game. You know, they get off to the one
and nine start, but then their winners seven of their
last twelve and five of those losses, you know, three
of them at West Foytt and the United Trace, you know,
and you.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Dive deeper into the numbers.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
This is a group that throughout the year scoring fifty
four a night, but up to fifty nine during the streak,
given up fifty eight, but only giving up fifty five
during everything starts to point in a real positive direction.
Tell me what you like about hounton the second half.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Here, Well, I'm talking to coach Jerry here before the game.
That's exactly what he likes about this team. They're getting
they're playing together as a team right now. They're gelling
as a team right now, which is a great time
of the year for that to be happening. And they
believe in each other. They really do have some confidence,
and this is the time of the year when you
catch fire and you get a little bit of confidence,
(01:33):
good things can happen. And we were talking about some
of the better teams we had that couldn't get to
the Convo, that didn't have a really good shot at
get into the convo. He said, you know, this obviously
is not one of my best teams I've ever had,
but we got a legitimate chance to get to the
Convo for a district final. And I think his kids
have bought into that same type of attitude and they're
ready to go.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Well, we're knocking on the door of March minus, right
so this is kind of the end of February minus
and we've had a little bit of that this bracket. Unfortunately,
SVC ended up falling to People's Southeastern hosting there. That's
how tonight's opponent, the People Indians, advanced here with a
fifty six to fifty one win over Southeastern. Ben Huntington
(02:14):
also pulls the upset down at Simms Valley with a
sixty three sixty. Yeah, and that's kind of We're just
talking to coach Bradley Waiver with the last night. It's kind
of what makes high school basketball fun. Everybody gets a chance,
and if you are playing your best basketball at the
right time, you really have a legitimate chance to do
something special.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Yeah, and I like that how the factor we's kind
of spread out a little bit. We don't have all
the teams in the SVC in one division. They're spread
out a little bit. They're not having to play each other.
They're able to play some teams from other leagues. And
it's showing just how strong the SVC is in basketball
that these other leagues that we're able to step in
and keep with them, beat them and make our way
(02:50):
further in the tournament. And you know, that's what we're
seeing out of Huntington right now. Unfortunately, we'd like to
see in Southeastern here tonight too and have it two
SVC teams making sure one more gets to the condo.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Well, we'll get to the opponent Peebles here in just
a second. But one more comment on Huntington. You know,
it feels like a lot of it has started to
come together with the health of Frankie Hirsch. You know,
coming out of football, I had some people tell me
maybe not one hundred percent. Obviously Huntington has been known
to go anywhere from seven eight to nine deep. But
having that one guy who's become really really the second
(03:23):
half the year a top five player in the SBC,
if I'm being quite honest in my opinion, he's kind
of the well quarterback from the ball, but on the
on the on the basketball.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Court, kind of the same type of leader.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Yeah, and again, we saw a quarterback the other night
from ironton show how he could lead on the basketball
for and the football season takes a toll on you.
I mean, whether you get hurt or not, have an
injury or not, it just takes a toll on you.
And it seems like his body is recovered from that,
and he is playing some really good basketball right now.
(03:53):
Putting In up some great numbers for his team.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Well, that kind of gets this ready on the hunting side.
Now we look over to the Knight's opponent people. You know,
the one thing that jumps right out at me is
the ability to shoot the three ball. You come tournament time,
it's a hit and miss thing, but on a on
a given night, if it's going in, it can certainly
help you you pull the upset as we watched against Southeastern.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
But I look here at my statu sheet, you're.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Gonna see about five guys that come in with about
twenty or more threes on the year. Usually that means
they can really spread the floor and share it. That's
gonna be quite a challenge for hunting thing.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
It will be in and Hunting ten has gotta make
sure they don't just get give up those open threes.
They gotta be contested. If they make contested three, they
make them, but you gotta make sure they're contested and
maybe even make them dribble off of that line, make
them drive to the bucket and not just stand and shoot.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I think that is a big key for Hunting to tonight. Defensively,
you know, we mentioned Huntington going seven to five. They
come in at eight and fourteen, Now four and ten
in the SVC, they tied with Pike and for six place.
In the SVCE, you know, Peebles at ten and twelve,
five and eight in the shack in the eighth place.
But keep in mind when we say that particular conference.
They go to Division one and two. You're talking Northigh
(05:00):
who we just watched score seventy two points they beat
rock Hill. I too will play the winner of this
game coming up, you know, And then you go down
through you know, right off the top of my head,
you know, Eastern Brown, Fayaville, Perry, Leesburg, Fairfield has You're
you're talking some pretty good basketball year and you're out
in the shack.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yes you are.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
And this team is, you know, i'd say, in middle
of the pack of the shack. Not to throw any
puns out there, rhymes. But again, they're a middle of
the pack team. But what does that mean. That means
they're dangerous on any given night. They can come out
and make a lot of those threes. Now that makes
you offensively have to counter that. And again I think
(05:38):
the big key is if they can hold this team
in the forties, if Huntington can hold this game in
the forties, maybe first team to fifty. Like I said
the other night tournament Ton, that could be the big outcome.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
And that's interesting because again you look down through we'll
get more of the individuals on our second segment of
the pregame, but the sophomore and a freshman, it's the
second and third leading scorers for so a lot of
times in the second half. You know that that kind
of shows that improvement as well.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Yeah, and again you know second half of the basketball season,
their season, they're becoming more mature. And again, as I
was talking to coach Jerry, that's what he likes about him.
You know, they're not getting tired, they're getting more mature
and wiser.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Well, we're kind of about three minute. Mark will step
away for a quick time out. We'll come back and
take a closer look at tonight's starting lineups and get
closer to tiptime. This Shane Colmes, we posted you listen

at Jackson High Schools.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Shank Colmslie postage.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
You want to give a shout out to Dinah Help
for all their fine support during our postseason and coverage.
And you know we're talking as we get closer to
starting lineups. Here, these are the These are two teams
that you know they can kind of mix and max
some of their starting lineups. You so many teams you
and I covered, it's kind of predictable who's going to start?
These don't And the question I had for you, we've
really watched someone off the bench be a spark from
(08:06):
a coach's perspective.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Talk to me, I go back, I thought.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Ironton, remember zaying Trace Coss the Maddox kid there for
Ironton the other night, I thought koy of Uniota last
night when Zickafu's gotten found trouble is outstanding.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
In the first half.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Talk to me about guys that you look to for
as a coach. You know, we all want to start,
we all want to have our name announce to do
all those things. But man, not six seven eight off
the bench.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
So so big it is, and it's going to be
that kid that understands his role and plays to that
role better than anyone else. And that's the kid that
really makes a difference in games like this and at
this time of the year. If you don't know what
your role is right now on this team, then you
haven't been paying attention. And that's where we see guys
like what you saw with Koy last night, Unioda. He
(08:49):
knows his role, he understands his role, and he goes
out there and try to help his team the best
he can well.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
And again you come into situations.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Like this, it really is you know, being ready, because
a lot of times you do get a little bit
of that foul trouble or or sometimes the nerves get
a little bit higher on this stage and you do
have to go to the bench a little sooner than
you thought.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Yeah, I think both of these teams are able to
do that. I think both of them can go eight
to nine deep, and I'm sure we're going to see
that happen early in the game. That way they get
them all into the flow.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Welcoming up on the national anthem, we'll step aside one
more time. We'll be back with the night's starting lineups.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Welcome back, to Jackson High School. Shan Colins lou posted
it's a Huntington Huntsman versus the Peebles Indians with a
chance to punt a ticket to the convo later this
weekend out of be a Sunday game. First game to night,
North Itams beat rock Hill seventy two to fifty nine
to advance. So North Adams we'll sit back with the
(11:56):
clipboard and scout this one. And Huntington are Peebles who
both I guess a little bit my tournament basketball language,
a little bit of the Cinderella story. They had the
upsets in the first round with again Peebles knocking off
SPC opponent Southeastern Peebles eleven seed. That was an eleven
to six matchup. Huntington, a fourteen seed, beat the three
(12:17):
seed Simmons Valley sixty three sixty.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
We can at tonight's starting lineup.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
First, for Huntington, point guard number twelve Frankie Hurst joined
in the Vick court there. Really they kind of play
three point guard kind of hybrid system. They all handled
the ball pretty well for Brendan Smith, the five to
five freshman, Carson Henneberger, the five nine senior. Then at
the forward positions. Kylevin Manson the six to one junior,
then gave Beardsley the six foot senior again for head
(12:45):
coach rick Yurig First Smith, Henneberger, Manson and Beardsley looking
over on the Peebles side, Grady Connectly as the junior
comes in average on about four to a half pointint
it's a game. They'll also start Carson Reid. He's people's
leading score. The six to two senior average is eleven
(13:05):
a game. Paxton Ryan one of the sharp shooters. We
talked about the three point ability in the in the
pre game. He's a six foot junior. Hayden Browning, He's
a senior, does a nice job shooting the basketball and defending.
And then their point guard is a sophomore six foot
Josh McClary comes at averaging around ten points a game
(13:28):
again for head coach Josh Airy, and I should say
Lou fifteenth year, he's coming up on twound and fifty wins.
I believe here recently I heard today two thirty five
that he just been at somewhere during this year. Makes
in the all time leader at Peebles, which is saying
something with their rich tradition there on the boy's side, Yeah,
it is.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
And again I know that team has had success year
in and year out, not a lot of ye lean
years down there. And Area has done a really good
job there at Peeble's. Uh yeah, you build a trade.
You kids buy into that program, and that's how you
build good programs. And he is one of the better
ones in southeastern Ohio.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Absolutely, And again for coach Area, it's connectly read Ryan
Browning and McClary. People's comes in averaging right around fifty
seven points a game on the offensive end, they give
up about fifty three. So again, if you look the
fifties seem to be kind of a tempo the both
teams like to play. I didn't as Lew's talked a
lot about doing our tournament trail. You feel like, man,
(14:30):
if you could be that first team in the fifty,
that's going to put you in a position in the
fourth quarter to be successful.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
It sure is. And again you look at both these teams,
neither one of them has a winning record overall for
the season, but a great crowd support for both team stays.
I mean, I'm very surprised by this. I shouldn't say
very surprised I know Huntington really supports their team and
people does as well, but you know, just great to
(14:55):
see here. We've had two great atmospheres on our first
two nights of this week, and hopefully that continues here tonight.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Lou and I are up top, kind of in a corner,
so looking at it from the die, No. Peebles will
be in their home Whites working hard left to right
with Huntington and the road Greens coming back right to left,
and Peebles will win the tip and they'll have the
first possession of the evening. Huntington comes out a little
bit looks like in their matchup a lot of times
that two to three match up. Peebles will spread it
(15:23):
out with the one post in the middle. They get
it in the red and now will come inside out.
That was Ryan for three. No good put back basket,
No good peoples. One more time shot up. That time
is going to be a foul and and a nice
job up. Josh McClary got in there and pulled down
that second rebound, couldn't get the shot to go, but
he's going to go.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
To the free throw long.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Yeah, that's just a tough first possession for Huntington. You
get a misshot right off the bench and you don't
get the rebound. You've got to do a better job
of that. You got to limit them to one shot
in games like this.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
First three throw up was good, six to four. Sophomore
Josh McClary.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Runs the point for the Indians, comes in averaging about
ten points a game. He shoots at sixty four percent
from the free throw line. Second shot up, that's also good.
Two nothing, Peebles to get us started here. Peebles will
pick up in a little token man about three quarter court.
Heirs will bring it across the time line, will cross
it over the left hand. He'll get it all the
way to the rims shot up off the glass.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Now good. Hirst gets it back his foot back was
stripped by Reid, but it's.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Gonna go out last touch by Reid, and Huntington'll have
it underneath his own basket.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
I like the very strong mood there by hearst right
off the back, getting it all the way to the bucket.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Unfortunately he wasn't able to get that one in Smith
inbound to Hirsch and ball side corner. Hirst tries to
drop it into the post to Manson. Reid was trying
to fight around the front. I think they're going to
call in for a little bit of a hold there,
so foul on the floor. And again Carson Reid early
foul that could be huge, Yeah, sure could.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
And again Manson did a great job posting up and
keeping the defender on his back, forcing that defender to
go through him to get the ball and get the foul.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Huntington with a little screen to screen or action again
it's ball side in the hearse who's mid range jump
or no good read appeables with the rebound out comes
mclary with it. Two good looks there by Hirsh in
that first possession, Clary to the right hand, hard drive
shot up on the rim. No good backside rebound for
Hirsh of Huntington. He'll go ahead and pull it and
go up the right side at Smith. Smith drops it
(17:24):
on the baseline for Beardsley. Back out top Smith. Now
Henneberger has it left wing. Henneburger and Manson want to
play two man game. Nothing there, back out the Hirsh
Now Hersh'll try a ball screen from Manson this line.
He gets it all the way to the rim and
lays it in. Good, So Huntington gets the lid off
the basket and we're tied it too.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
Yeah, he's able to get to the bucket. Two straight
possessions there, so good. Little hesitation move to get around
the defense. Corson Reid has it out top out the mclary.
Not a big hurry here, trying to get in the
for the defense again Huntington. A lot of times it'll
look like they're in man when they play this match up.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Back out. Tom Ryan thought about the three. Tried to
drop it in Hunchton. A nice job.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Smith goes to the floor, throws it out the beards
ly beards into the open court. A nice little step
through in the hot no good persh on the board.
He kicks it out the Smith, who drops a bounce
passing the beards.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
He lays it in. Outstanding, classed by the freshman Brendan Smith.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Yeah, and again great job by Hersch. You're keeping the
ball alive, giving him the second chance there.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Huntington back in transition d S and nothing there. People
will back it back out mclar He looked back at
the bench. He gets the call. Now they look to go,
trying to get Carson read there in the in the post.
Now that nice look inside had great position. He lays
it in Gid Browning. The assists great position from Carson
reed and we're tied at four.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Yeah, great balance to knowing where he was, knowing that
he had time, he did not force that into a
quick shot.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Pursh off another high ball stream this time, will try
a mid range right around seventeen feet.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
It down first with four. Huntington leads it by two.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Tell you what, people's better do a better job by
defending him with the ball.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
White corner. Now that's right.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Now it's back out top mclary. McClary will back it up.
Henneburger will come out and apply a little ball pressure.
Mclary hard drive and the left hand shot up. Kida
lost it somewhat blocked by Manson. Out comes Beardsly with it.
Beardsly splits the double team lost it momentarily got it
back and now he does turn it over. Out comes
Ryan stopped there by Henneberger. A pretty good transition defense
(19:33):
by Huntington. A little bit of overpassing there by Huntington
in transition or he tried to throw it download nothing there.
Now we'll go left corner, dial it up three ball
who had Browning? Brownie Browning comes in right around nine
or ten threes on the year, has shown the ability
to knock it down.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Yeah, it's good shot. Fake two. He had the defense
to go right by him and then he himselves ready
to shoot.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Seven to six peoples on top another high ball screen.
This time it's Hinneburger. Henneberger will try a mid range
jumper and again, Lou you said it. People's really struggling
with their own ball defense there.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
In terms of the ball screen, I like the confidence
Huntington is shooting with and playing offense.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
With right now eighty seven Huntington on top. People's back
in their own offense, trying to figure this out. It's
back out there. Brown's got it now it's the top.
McClary Ryan on the left side. Peeple's pretty good patience there.
Now mcclary'll try a deep three from the right side,
and he knocked it down. Josh McClary can certainly stretch
(20:39):
the floor with his range. He shows it off there.
Ten eight peoples.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
Yeah, both the offenses being very productive here so far.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Manton at the elbow gets back to Henneberger Henneberger cross court.
The Hirsh Hirsh goes right back to that ball screen
with Manson now gives away to Smith. Beardsly has it
up top. Beardsley nothing there. Back to Manson. Kenneberger turns
the coach. Urro gets a call and now Hirsch will
go back and Hunton'll reset it. As he backs it
(21:10):
up toward the timeline. It's a too high ball screen, said,
He comes off with the right hand dribble off of Manson,
hands it off to Smith. Now it's up top Henneberger.
He thought about a three swings it left side Hirsh,
Hirst to the right hand cut off there, good on
ball defense from connect Lee. Now up top it's Henneberger.
(21:31):
Good patients here for Huntington. It's one of their longer possessions,
making people's work a little bit.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
Hey, you're near in a minute.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Here, high ball screen again, Hirsh, this time the mid
range jumper. Too strong.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Peoples comes out with this Smith and knocked it away momentarily,
But now Clairey has control. Peoples has some numbers if
they're able to go Connectly shot Fate gets Manton in
the air, shot up and good and the foul. Great
patients from Grady Connectly in the open cord there Loo.
I thought the head and shoulder fake was able to
get the shot while off his feet.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Yeah, good job of passing. Involve up the floor there
in transition by people's getting this opportunity and Strong moved
there by number ten connect.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
With twelve eight.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Peebles a couple of subs here, and again it's kind
of unique for peoples because they go to the bench.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
But Shively and.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
Sims entered the game, and I've seen both of them
start plenty of times this year on some of the
film I watch.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Free throw up. Connectly makes good on the old fashion three.
So thirteen to eight.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Yeah, as a coach, you like that depth where you
can go to the bench and not lose a lot
of scoring or defense.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Well, just to show that illustrate my point here, Shively
averages seven a game and then the freshman, you know,
Johnson comes in he averages nine. So bringing some offense
off the bench. Peebles traps there at half court. I
never trying to float over the top. It was deflected
hunting and Lucky to get it back herst penetrate drops
it off the beardsly and lays it in nicely done
(23:00):
twelve or excuse me, thirteen to ten.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
People's lead cut the three.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Yeah, good, scrambled there by Huntington there on the offensive end.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Get a steal here on the drive poked away by Hirst,
but they throw it back on the back to Peebles.
Now a three pointer in transition, and I think they're
going to say Henneberger got him.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
The shot did not go.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
So that was Calarson Reid shooting the left corner three.
Hennieburger hit him in the act of shooting. So Reid's
gonna get three free throws.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
Yeah, he got him right in the mid section. I
don't well, it wasn't intentional, obviously, but again that's where
the contact came.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
I believe that's Hineberger second foul.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
They're showing one on the board.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Okay, I had the one marked wrong there, Pirsch had
the one minute.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
All the stats we give to everyone out there not
official by any means. Sometimes will you miss a few things?
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Well, so far Urson reed unable to convert.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
So thinking of missing a few things, We've had a
few free throws missed here by people.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Because it was in the act of shooting the three,
Carson Reed will get a third free throw, comes in
shooting sixty eight percent from the line. Third free throw
up that one bounces in his favor. Fourteen to ten, Peoples,
one fifty four to go here in the opening quarter,
Peoples will pick up in a full court man herschell.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Clear it out and go one on one.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Colin Simms little little too physical there on the on ball,
gonna get called for the common foul.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Man, it'll get it on the side.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Yeah, you hate that as a coach, to get a
foul that far out, especially when you really didn't have
a chance at a steal there. That was a foul.
You knew you were it was going to be a foul.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Finneberger will win down there on the side. I'll throat
all the way in the back court to hersh one
forty five first quarter, fourteen to ten people, Shane coins
Loop Postage Division six District Semifinal here at Jackson Hunting
and Peoples glad you're with it. Trying to get Manson
isolated down the block. They throw it over the top.
Nice catch, but he's unable to convert out comes.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
People's with it. Carson Reith throws it all the way.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Down trying to get a streaking Johnson threw it over
his head all the way out of Bound's gonna turn
it back over to Huntington.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
Say what, Huntington's got to be happier. You're only down
four and you have not played well at all other
than some good offensive possessions, but giving up some second
shot opportunities. And here's another turnover now coming back.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
The running jump. Both teams didn't want it. Now Huntington
will possess it. Smith will try a left side three.
No good fight for the loose ball. People's had it,
but Shively lost it out of bounds. But yeah, you're right,
littling that on the run and jump. Their people's had
to turn over and they just throw it right back
to Huntington. So now Huntington maybe with a chance to
get a little closer.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
Again.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
We had a sub for Huntington. Is that Eli el Aery,
the sharp shooter. Eli had thirteen and upset went over
Simms Violey. They run a play for him to come back.
Ball side corner well defended there by Peebles Now area
up top Beardsley, Beardsley, god to by Shively. Now Hirsh
off of Beardsley screen gonna step back for a three.
(26:15):
It's short, pretty good box out there by Sims of Peebles,
and he goes out in the open court. He is
off to the left side. Johnson's no good ball comes
off and I think Huntington rebu't gonna have a people's file.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
Still not in the bonus yet. Both teams had three
teen fouls here in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Freshman Johnson with the file there still fourteen to ten Peebles.
We've been stuck on there for a few minutes. Forty
five point nine and Peoples will pick up a little
full court pressure again.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Now Huntington comes up across the timeline.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
There's the running jump again. They tried to split the
double team in hirsh Yeah, that's a good call. Hirsch
was a little gut out of control, shadly, he was
waiting on him. Offensive file is gonna go the other wise?
Speaker 4 (27:07):
Yeah, if he's able to get a jump stop there.
He found a guy wide open on the back side.
He just left his feet and his momentum took him
forward right into the defense.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Well, I heard you talk about it earlier this week.
Sometimes the pressure isn't to turn you over. It can
also just try to speed you up. And that's kind
of what happened to.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
The sophomore guard there.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
Exactly, you getting no time and situation too. It was
under forty five seconds go here in the first quarter.
You have to get a good quality possession there.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Twenty eight seconds in counting. Let's see if people's tried
to hold for the last shot. Now they're gonna go
into the middle. There, spin move up and off the glass.
There my strong move filed there on Huntingdon. Let's see
who they get. Connectly, that was a good spin move.
Draws the contact, unable to convert, they're going to go
(27:55):
to the line. Remember he was the one with the
old fashioned three moments ago.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
I don't know how much contact there was, but the
fact that he came down with his hand that downward motion.
They're going to call that almost all the time.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
First free throw up and good and again Connectley comes
in just averaging four point five points.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
The game already given some offense here to the Indians.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
That and as their lead there at fifteen to ten,
Huntington fouls on Henneberger. That is the second. Now, so Connectley,
we'll have a second free throw here for Peebles. Shot
up good, so sixteen to ten, twenty seconds to go again.
Peebles continues to pick up in the full court back
(28:40):
to Manson. He rips through now Beardsley in the middle.
Beardsley drops the bounce past Elliott into the game for
Huntington as well. Airy on the drive poked away out
comes Peebles with it, but Huntington steals it right back.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Elliott wins the loose ball in the mountain.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Now a sim's coming in from behind, poked it away,
but he's going to be called for a foul's.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Second one all of a sudden. You know one of
their real good on ball defenders that.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
They using their pressure way. Yep, four point four here
and you're gonna have the ball here on your end
of the four and be a side out. But you
definitely get a good shot off here if you're Huntington,
cut into this six point lead.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Hunting A win bound it opposite of us over in
front of the people's bench on the side, come down
in the corner to Elliott, and I don't know if
they're aware of the clock the back to area, and
I don't think Hunton's going to get a shot off.
They do not know, So sixteen to ten peebles is
where we stand after one Shan Colm's loop post. Did

Speaker 2 (30:47):
Welcome back to Jackson High School, Shane colmslo postage. Peoples
leads it at the end of the first quarter sixteen ten,
and you'll take back to the pregame Lou. As you
go through these first quarter numbers, I'm anxious to hear
peebles from the three point line and then the hunting
then turnover total, because I thought people's pressure started to
unpack it well.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
Huntington had four turnovers there, five of twelve, shooting overall
forty two percent, A zero of two from beyond the arc.
People's four of eight from the field, two for three
from the three point line. Here's the big set. I
think people's six for eight from the free throw line.
So it's six point difference here tonight.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Huntington with possession to start the quarter, a nice basket
cut and a good bounce past that or his airy
lays it in sixteen twelve. Hunting strikes first here in
the second quarter to cut people's lead to four.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Back come the Indians.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Ryan thought about a three, gets it in the corner.
Brandon started to uh penetrate there a little bit. I
think he thought Shively was going to go one way,
ended up going the other and they throw it out
of bailing.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
Yeah, that's five turnovers for people. So both teams now
with the well Huntington has four, but again turnover is
starting to mount again.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Peoples just stays in the full court pressure. They just
kind of throw a lot of bodies after you. And
now it's gonna be Smith that clears it out flows
it into Manson. He'll turn and try a mid range
jumper and hunt it and having some success there in
the mid range. This time it's Calvin Manson.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
Yeah, didn't shoot the ball awfully well in the first
quarter two for two here in this quarter, maybe another steal.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Yeah, Peoples lose it out top balls loose out comes
Beardsly with it. He's into the open court, shot up
on the glass.
Speaker 13 (32:23):
No.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Good, great job by Calvin Manson to run the floor
with him. His put back baskets good and we're tied
at sixteen.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
And that is why you run the floor no matter what.
Great job there by ants into getting that.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Oh nice, aunts packs to drying right back comes in
just shy of thirty three's on the year, averaging eight
points a game. He shows off some of that range
there with a triple People's back in front nineteen sixteen.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
So Honeyton quickly ties it up there to start the quarter,
and that was a big bucket by People's big answer.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Fiarsually over on the right side, he'll try a three.
No good fight for the loose ball, and they're gonna
say Peebles last touch. The good hustle from both teams
there getting.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
On the floor.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
Yeah, both these teams do not look like teams that
do not have winning records. They are out here scrapping
for everything. Obi under opportunity, Smith having trouble getting it in.
He's gonna get called for the five count and they're
going to turn it back over to Peebles. Yeah, that
was a tough call there. You gotta get that ball
(33:24):
in bounce quicker.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
So six twenty six left in the first half, Peebles
buy three with the basketball. Mclary'll bring it up across
the timeline, goes right side Ryan, who just knocked down
a triple high post.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
It's red nice high low pass again.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Connectly just kind of clever down low, getting positioned that
high low game. And Grady Connectley's having a nice first
half here twenty one to sixteen people that comes Huntington
in a hurry. That was Beardsley on a on a
drive draws. The contact shot won't go, but Gabe's going
to go to the free throw line to shoot the pairs.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Yeah, right now for people as if it's not an
open three, it is them getting the ball inside to
point blank rings.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
First free throw up good gave. Beardsually had nine in
their win over Sims. Valley comes in averaging around six rebounds.
But the stat that jumps out with me, he's just
shy of four steals a game. He's up there, just
ahead of Cat and Cutwad. In the most recent update
in the SVC, second free throw good twenty one eighteen.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
People's lead now cut.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
To three, six points for beards Lee on the ninth.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Up top.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
It's Ryan Ryan backall and mclary thought about a three.
Makes the extra pass. Ryan, I'll try another triple No
good again, connect Lee up on the offensive glass and
put the back. Grady Connectly nearly doubled his average already
having a huge first half twenty three to eighteen.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Yeah, you get a misshot and you give him the
ball right up underneath the bucket. Gotta do a better
job of boxing all. Smith has it up top, goarded
by McClaren high ball screen, Manson, Smith plays Downhill, kicks
at the Airy. Good clothes out there from Ryan. Beardsley
flashes to the block. They throw it in there. He'll
shoot a turn around jumper too strong, Shively and Beardsley
(35:19):
fighting for it. Beardsley comes out with it, gets it
back out to Smith as Huntington wins another possession. Manson
has it up top, goes to Smith off of Manson
ball screen. Smith turned down a three. Hunton'll continue the possession.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Now Air'll try a right wing for any gut it
Eli Airy again had the thirteen I mentioned in the Simms.
Valley knocks down his first shot of the evening, cuts
People's lead to two twenty three to twenty one.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Good penetration.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
McClary did everything, but naked did Carson reed on the
on the drop off there, hunting And dodges the bullet.
They rebound the basketball, so now Huntington comes back down
just two the chance to tire go ahead.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Yeah, that was a lot. The last shot there was
the first three made by Honey.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
Team Arie'll try one more time from the top of
the key.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
This one rushed a little bit, no good Shively with
the rebound, and Huntington's gonna get called for a foul.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
A little bit of a frustration foul there, probably as
much as anything. Yeah, Aary had plenty of time to
get that three pointer off.
Speaker 4 (36:18):
He just rushed it.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
So four to twenty three to go, first half, twenty three,
twenty one. Peoples been a very competitive game to this point. Again,
glad you're with us on ninety four point three FM,
or of course iHeartRadio. You can get us all over.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Peoples.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Will walk it up and I'll go right side. That's Johnson.
Mcclary'll sprint in ball side corner and get it back again.
Read and Connectly playing a little high low game. Connectly
makes a baseline kick and Shively, Yeah that's a good call.
Shively just went to shoot the three and the thing
just slipped out of his hands. When he comes back
down with any traveled with the basketball.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
Yeah, he came down with it and was in the
same spot, so that's a traveler and back to possession.
Back to Huntington.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
Again.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
His Peebles pretty much has since from the tip. Picking
up in the full court. They'll go man and then
various spots on the floor. They'll use a little run
and jump. This time they stay straight up. Arie has
it up top. Now gives on a pop there to Beardsley.
Back to Airy now. Elliott has it over on the
right wing the left. He penetrates, kicks at the Manson.
(37:29):
He'll try a three, his three pointer short, pretty good
box out there from Carson Reed. They're gonna get Bradon
Elliott over the top of hunting with a file.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
The team found number two on Huntington for this quarter.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (37:44):
If your coach you'ured you've gotta get hirsh back in
the game here, just to get the offense.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
Movie three poin forty to go until halftime. Peebles by two.
With the basketball. Josh McClary walks it up, gets way
as shively light back to mclar now Shively, I'll run
all the way through the zone. They'll curl Carson Reid
into the middle and his little jumper from right around
twelve feet look to be partially blocked. I think they
(38:12):
got him on the arm there. It's gonna be a
hunting foul and Reid's gonna go back to the free
throw line.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
Yeah, they had.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
There were six of eight from the free throw line
in the first quarter here, and we've got two more
shots here, so already ten foul shots, four pupils here
in the first half.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Read's first free throw up and good. Reid struggled a
little bit that first trip. He was the one that
got fouled on the three, made one of three. Now
he's made his last two and again he comes in
shooting sixty eight percent from the free throw line. As
I said in the free game, people's leading scored eleven.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Points a game.
Speaker 4 (38:47):
Got number two Colt Parker in the game for Huntington
right now, and came in for Brendan Smith.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
That's the eight different Huntsmen to enter the game. Who's
Read makes good on the second one, twenty five twenty one,
Trapped there in the corner. They throw it all the
way into the middle of Manson. Manson comes down, bakes
the pass, puts the shot up off the glass, and
good Talvin Manson with a bucket twenty five twenty three
People's League.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
Cut to two.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
He's at himself a good quarter here, He's got six.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Points now on the corner. Can actually fought about it.
Now throws the diagonal back out. Tom McClary, he'll try
a deep three.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
No good.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Elliott goes up high for the rebound, but PopEd away,
but Parker runs it down. Now Eli Ariy has it
and it's knocked away from behind us. Peebles comes back
and I think they're gonna get Aria in the open
court there with a foul.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Whole Parker had ended up running down the rebound.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
He threw it ahead, but then the Peebles transition defense
coming from behind of Airy and knocked it away, and
then Airy on the reaction gets called for his second foul.
So Smith will return to the Huntington lineup, replacing him.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
Did I miss some there? Does hersh have two fouls?
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Now that earlier when I was confused on the one file,
I couldn't tell if I had it a little bit differently,
so he very well might. The board I didn't match
the board there earlier in the game when I was
on the Henneberger foule, so I may have marked one
of them wrong. People's coming back on the offensive side
on that left side three from Ryan no good again,
(40:24):
offensive rebound, Red puts it back up to contact, no call.
Huntington'll come out with it, Parker will look, the push goes.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
Behind the back.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Now'll give his way to Manson. Manson will try a
left side three. No good, A pie is McClary for
the rebound, and he pulls it and goes the point
guard two on one.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Awesome, No look passed over on the right side, and
that's going.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
To be an n one opportunity for the freshman Johnson
and lou That's a great example there with.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
McClary when you're when your point guard can rebound like
that and turning go.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
He just basically went speed dribble and left three or
four Huntington players behind and created a two on one.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
That's a great transitioned offense right there. And he did
it all by the speed dribble, as you said. But
just wondering why Hurch isn't in the game. I think
right now that you need to bring him back in
the game here offensively, but forcing up some threes. I
think they're settling for too many threes. Right now is
Huntington in their offense.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
Free throw there on the and one opportunity for Johnson.
No good.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
How Smith has it taken away from him? That's Mclair
in the open court and he lays it in. Josh McClair.
He really starting to put his his fingerprints all over
this first half. Twenty nine to twenty three, Peoples by six.
Smith across the timeline and they throw it away, out
comes reading the open court. He goes up and he
(41:47):
lays it in the People's defense. Starting to create some
havoc here. Thirty one twenty three, People's biggest lead of
the evening at eight. Now trapped in the back court, Coach,
you're trying to get a time out and they are
gonna they are going to give him the timeouts one
hundred and keep possession. It's a short time out. Will
(42:07):
stay here. Thirty one twenty three, People's on top and
Lou again, we talked about the overall three point line
for Peoples. I feel like Hunting's competed okay there, But
the second point we made in the pre game about
People's pressure, that's really starting to impact the game here in.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
The second quarter.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
Yeah, it sure is. And again, you just cannot give
up layups off of some defense or offensive turnovers. Right now,
they're not even being able to get into any type
of offensive set, and I think Huntington needs to be
able to do that. And that's why I'm wondering. You know,
I know Hirsh may have two thousands, we're not sure that,
(42:44):
but I think you got to get him back into
game right now, just so you have some offense here
at the end of the first half and this one
doesn't get away right now.
Speaker 2 (42:51):
Lou we talk a lot about turnovers, but really I've
always felt like not all turnovers are created equally. I
feel like those live ball turnovers are almost double And
what I mean by that live bul turnover is that
opportunity for defense to immediately become offense and get get
the number advantage in transition.
Speaker 4 (43:06):
And that's what they've been able to do here. Last
cup of possession there has been basically a steal. It
led directly to a bucket without any defensive pressure by Huntington.
Speaker 2 (43:18):
Parker brings it up there, takes on the double team.
I'll throws it off to Manson, Manson back to Parker,
goes right side Elliott Elliott up top, Airy airy behind
the back, good pressure there for McClary again, worried about
the five count. Now they're going to get McClary on
(43:38):
the bump there, Sir Josh McClary, who had the steal
and basket right before the time out, almost gets the
five count there, but then gets a little bit of
body on the ball handler and gets called for the five.
Speaker 4 (43:51):
Yeah, one oh four here, you got to get a
good offensive possession again. You're only down eight.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
On the Manson and Manson walks it into a hand
off because Ariy comes and gets it. Ariy behind the back,
jump stop into the middle, nice little floater, a little
finger roll up and good much needed basket.
Speaker 3 (44:14):
Thirty one to twenty five, Huntington.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
Within six, Ariy seven points this quarter.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
Mclary fakes the past, takes a deep three time and
score wise, that might have been a little quick rebound
Elliott of Huntington and the Huntington's gonna get another chance
to cut into the league.
Speaker 4 (44:27):
That was a lot quick here, Coach Aarry, you do
not like that shot.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
And again McClary takes it away out top or excuse me,
this time it's Johnson Johnson takes it away up top
and Johnson out in the up and court and he
lays it in thirty three twenty five.
Speaker 3 (44:41):
Peebles matches. It's biggest lead of eight.
Speaker 4 (44:43):
That's at least six points at Honeyton has given up
there in possessions just like that.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
Now Beardsley has it up top crossover dribble pulls up
sixteen feet.
Speaker 3 (44:53):
Nogad follows his own shot and gets it back and
he is fouled.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
On that poot by a great job and gave Beardsley
sticking with it and following his shot. He's going to
go to the free throw line with seven point nine
seconds remaining here.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
In the first time, get eight point deficit four Huntington. Here,
you got a chance to cut it to six. Get
a stop, and I guarantee you coach Jerry would be
happy going in down six.
Speaker 3 (45:19):
First free throw is good.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
The six foot senior Bearnsley, the freshman Kinser checks into
the line up here because they get Manson out. They
also go freshman is Aden Baker into the lineup again,
trying to get some guys out protect some foul situation.
Here in the final eight seconds, Scaredly shot up no
(45:47):
good out comes Peeples with it five to shoot, they
throw it across court.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
Ryan throws it.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
Up on the float or and he got it passed
and Ryan beats the buzzer to put Peebles up twenty six.
Their biggest leader the night comes here. As we go

Welcome back to Jackson High School, Shane Combs lou Postage
Division six District semi final. We're here at halftime as
Peebles leads Huntington thirty five twenty six in the first quarter.
It was Peebles that jumped out to the sixteen to
ten advantage after eight minutes of play. Their biggest lead
comes in the second quarter there at one point thirty
(49:43):
one twenty three, and again thirty three twenty five. But
now right before the half, Paxton Ryan beats the buzzer
and Peoples actually their biggest lead becomes their halftime lead
now at thirty five twenty six. And you know, Lou
as we as we uh take look at the first half,
and you look at the numbers there. Obviously the pressure
(50:05):
defensive people started to speed hunting up a little bit,
a couple of the live ball turnovers easy layups. On
the other end, thought, I thought Huntington played with some
pretty good composure there for all probably ten to twelve minutes,
but over the last couple of minutes of the second
quarter really started to get away.
Speaker 3 (50:20):
From Yeah, it did.
Speaker 4 (50:22):
I mean four straight possessions, I believe they got turnovers
and it led to a layup on the other end
for people, So it definitely took a toll. But again,
you look up at the scoreboard, you're only down nine
after something like that happened. And looking at the numbers,
Huntington was eleven of twenty five shooting forty four percent,
(50:43):
only one of six from beyond the arc and three
of four from the free throw line. Four people as
they were eleven of twenty two to fifty percent, three
of eight from beyond the arc, and eight of ten
from the free throw line. So again they're getting good
opportunities offensively. Again a lot of those layups off the turnovers,
but they're also getting the ball inside and getting opportunities
(51:05):
necessarily from the bucket, but from the free throw line,
making eight of ten. Looking at the leading scorers, you
look at this people's team. We talked about how balanced
the scorers team this is, and it shows here in
the first half. Grady Connectley had nine, Carson Reid was seven,
five points for Paxton Ryan five also for Josh McClary
(51:27):
four points for Bo Johnson and three points for Hayden Browning.
For Huntington, they were led in the first half by
Eli Airy he had seven also gave Beardsley with seven,
six points by Calvin Manson and four points by Frankie Hirsch.
And again I'm not sure what happened there with Hirst,
but he did not play very much in the second quarter.
(51:49):
And again I think that was one of the things
that Huntington was missing, that guy could handle the ball
and take care of that pressure and get the ball
down to an offense.
Speaker 3 (51:58):
Yeah, no question.
Speaker 2 (51:59):
And you know, as I listen to some of your
numbers and I compare them with my notes, people's three
of eight from the three point line. I think Connecton
would take that. Defensively. You know, connecticly has had a
nice first half. Keep in mind he comes in averaging
four and a half points. He has nine, so you know,
you don't expect that a little bit. He's played well.
But I go back to the turnovers, and not just
the turnovers, but the thirty five points isn't necessarily an
(52:23):
illustration of how the hunting defense has played. It's more
than the Huntking offense allowing some easy points in transition
A great.
Speaker 4 (52:30):
Yeah, the lack of Huntington offense getting into an offense
leading to transition buckets for Peoples. I did not give
the turnover numbers, honeying ten with nine in the first half. Again,
that's a lot. It's almost like four of them were
late bam bam bam, and Peoples had seven turnovers. So
again a lot of turnovers by both teams in the
first half that you know you add another one. There
(52:52):
are times that by two that's double double digits turnovers
for these teams into the teams, and that's not what
you want.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
Looking at some other basketball action around the area tonight,
for some of our people's listeners, Fayetteville falls to Cincinnati
College Prep fifty one to forty there in the Division
seven Southwest District semifinal over at Milford High School here
a little bit closer to home. As we mentioned here,
in the first game tonight, North Adams beat rock Hill
(53:21):
seventy two fifty nine. The winner of this game will
head to the Combo on Sunday to play North Adams.
Now that Sunday action, that's got some all day stuff.
I don't have that in front of you, but I
believe it starts at noon. I know Eastern Pike and
Valley will do battle, and then the two o'clock game
(53:43):
would be this one. It would be the winner of
this game against North Adams. I believe Miami trace involved
in that. The South Webster Fairfield games in that games
go all the way to like eight o'clock.
Speaker 3 (53:53):
That night. I can tell you that Notre Dame beat
Green thirty six thirty.
Speaker 2 (53:59):
I believe they're the nightcap there at eight o'clock, so
that would be right now. Southern and Manchester are doing battle.
The winner of that game would play an under name
and again that goes so if I'm not mistaken. On Sunday,
you can go to the convo there twelve, two, four,
six and eight, get comfortable and enjoy some good basketball.
Speaker 3 (54:20):
There's nothing like it. Then they go to the Convo
and really take it in some basketball.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
Speaking of the convo, Lou will be back on the
road tomorrow night with Jacob Wise and they'll have the
Unioda boys as they'll take on Waverley down at the Convo.
That's for a Division four district championship. Looking at other
scores around the area, tonight, the Division three girls Uniota
falls in sweet sixteen action Avon Lake forty seven, Uniota
(54:47):
thirty seven. So Uniota season comes one end as the
gold Ball champion, then a district champion there in D
three and then over on the Division five side, Mimford
forty seven, Union Local thirty one for girls on their
way to the Elite eight. So congratulations to Memford. And
(55:07):
then speaking of upcoming action, not just tomorrow night at
the Convo, I'll be back with Lou Friday night. We'll
be down at the Convo in Athens and that will
be speaking of Memphord. That'll be Zane Trace boys taking
on Memford and that's in the Division five in the
district championship. So we've got Uniota playing for the district
(55:28):
championship tomorrow night at the Convo and D four Zane
Trace Friday night the district championship and D five and
then as we said, Division six, hoping to get Huntington
back on track here down nine at the half to
see if they can get going well. We'll step away
for a time out Shane Colmbs and Lou Postage. We'll
be back with second half action. You're listening to Herndslin

Posts and Jeer Jackson High School.
Speaker 3 (57:03):
Peebles has possession to start the half.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
They turn it over and Huntington comes back with a
quick opportunity, unable to convert. Now out in transition again,
Grady Connectley having a career night and he scores it.
In transition, shot goes the hoop and the harm He's
gonna go to the free throw line for another old
Fashon three opportunity.
Speaker 4 (57:24):
Yeah, he's having a really good game here and again
he's just hanging around the inside and clearing things up
in there and getting some free point opportunities.
Speaker 3 (57:33):
So we see.
Speaker 4 (57:37):
Back in the lineup is Hirsch for Huntington and along
with Cartson Henneberger, both of them had two thousand. They
sit at the end of the quarter.
Speaker 2 (57:48):
Free throw no good, Huntington in possession of the basketball. Hirsch, Henneberger, Manson, Beardsley,
and Airy Nice cut there away from the basket for Manson.
Beardsley finds him and Manson lays it in much needed basket.
They're thirty seven to twenty eight. People's on top, Huntington
not matched up there. In transition, Ryan got a good
(58:09):
look at it.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
No good.
Speaker 2 (58:10):
Connectly up on the offensive glass put back, no good,
Hersh on the rebound. He throws it all the way
down cord Aria. Arie shot up off the glass. No
good rebound read of Peebles. Good opportunity there for hunting
and transitions.
Speaker 4 (58:23):
Just notice up on the scoreboard there that last foal
they gave to Hearst. That's his third note.
Speaker 2 (58:30):
Right side there, Ryan in the corner and out of
they trying to get read in the middle post.
Speaker 3 (58:35):
He turned around.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
Tough shot fourteen feet, no good, A little bit of
a force manson the hunting with the rebound. Now comes
Hirsh with it. Hirsh his way to hinter Berger. Now
Aria has it on the right side. Aria'll try a
right wing three, no good rebound peeples clar He'll push
it up the right side, crosses back over the middle.
Good transition d for Huntington. People's getting set now. Reid
(59:00):
has it down in the short corner. It's a diagonal.
Good clothes out there for Henneberger. Not to let mclary
have a good look at it. Now Ryan has it.
Victor McClary, Huntington back in the matchup zone. Now short
corners read read to a diving connectly and Henneberger goes
(59:21):
down and ties him up, and we're going to have
a jump ball situation.
Speaker 3 (59:26):
So it looks like possession arrow. It's gonna favor Huntington.
Speaker 4 (59:32):
Tell you what, Huntington got lucky there because Manson was
out of bounce as he had his hands around that ball.
Or I'm sorry, Henneberger had his foot out of bounce
as he had his hands around that ball, and the
tie it.
Speaker 2 (59:46):
People's picks up as they did most of the first
half in the full court ere he trapped just past
half court now and they're gonna get connectedly with the
body foul on the blockhou be Huntington basketball over on
the side. Kenneberger will be the n bell man rowing
(01:00:09):
in the back court.
Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
There to hirsh.
Speaker 3 (01:00:13):
Five thirty eight, third quarter, thirty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
To twenty eight. People's out in front. Henneburger has it
on the left point, gives way to Hirsh Hirsh off
a high ball screen from Beardsley. First, he'll try of
mid range jumper and he got a tough shot about
sixteen seventeen footer. Are just able to use his size
there as a big guard and knock it down.
Speaker 4 (01:00:32):
Yeah, he's going a long time without scoring. The last
two points were laid in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Thirty seven thirty get read in the middle again. It's
that high low game down to Kannethyley and he lays
it in Connectley, right man and the right spot several
times on that high low and he's having a big night.
Thirty nine, thirty Henneberger back on the other end, tries
a three. No, good long rebound and good hustle from
Henneberger knocks it away. Now he throws it away. Nobody
(01:01:00):
wants possession of the basketball. How Peoples will go? And
and when McClary tried to come back and bounds, they
said he had not established himself, and they'll turn it over. So, Lou,
I'm glad you're keeping turnovers, not me. Did you get
all those?
Speaker 4 (01:01:12):
I got them all right. Now it's Peoples eleven hunting
ten ten on the turnovers here for the night. They
are mounting up quickly here in the third quarter. We're
gonna get a time out here from Puebles. Full time out.
Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
It's a full time out. We'll stay here this time.
You know, I'll ask you this. I think a lot
of times there I don't know how you feel about it.
I didn't feel like Peebles turnovers were as costly in
the first half as hunting Now a lot of it's
that light ball turnover I was talking about. But here
in the third quarter, if you're coach airy, you don't
mind your guys playing fast and frustrating. But the people's
(01:01:46):
getting a little sloppy there in the last minute or two.
Speaker 4 (01:01:48):
Yeah, and again it's sappy, just trying to quickly get
back down.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 4 (01:01:52):
When they set up in their offense in half court,
Huntington has a hard time stopping it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:01:58):
They must have scouted it well as Huntington's zone because
they're able to get the ball inside pretty easy. And
Connectley's having a great night, so Huntington's got to do
something to stop that from happening.
Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
Well.
Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
In the nice compliment of Peebles, as I said in
the pregame, they come in about five.
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
Six guys that have hit over twenty threes.
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
I think Huntington's matchup's been stretched out a little bit
and reading Connectly are very clever.
Speaker 3 (01:02:20):
They're in the high low, finding those half spots and
really executing and basically shooting layups.
Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
Yeah, and again they have not forced up a bunch
of threes. They've only shot nine threes. You know, they're
a team that likes to shoot a lot. They've only
shot nine tonight. And I think it's because they've been
told by the coaching to half, Hey, let's take advantage
of some things that we think we can get, and
that's getting it getting the.
Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
Ball inside inbeling opportunity, throw it all the way out,
Manson runs it down. Al Beardsley has a herschell run
out and get it and get hunted and set hersh
to the left hand. Ribbled now spends back to the right,
is left side at Smith, Smith to Manson. Manson rips through,
gets it all the way to the ram shot, won't
go rebound read of Peebles long outlet the mclary. He
(01:03:04):
rips through, gets to his right hand, try to get up.
I think he was just trying to draw the foul.
They're gonna say Huntington must have deflected that ball out
of his hands because they're gonna keep it Peebles basketball.
Speaker 4 (01:03:16):
And again, that was a nice move there by Manson.
He just did down to give him the chance to
go in he never got the ball above the rim.
Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
Bryan throws it all out top McClary. Now McClary has
it on the penetration. Now Johnson will try a left
wing three no good good box out for Beardsley on
the backside of Al Smith, or get the rebound for
huntingon herschel bring it up cross over the left hand
in the middle, pass deflected. Huntington gets it back. Now
Manson gives way to Henneburger. Henneburger up top, hirsh out
(01:03:50):
of Smith. Huntington trying to get a little bit of
a open post type action from some hard cuts. Beardsley
spin dribble, pulls up twelve footer that's short read with
another rebound for Peebles, and he'll give way to Johnson,
who'll bring it up to push it up right side
to Ryan. Ryan penetrates goes across court. Mclary Clairey lost
(01:04:13):
it for a minute, got it back three point thirty
two to go. Third quarter, thirty nine to thirty. Peebles
Connectly has it down in the corner, back out top.
They're going to swing it all the way around McClary.
He'll try a left point three no good read up
Hie for the offensive rebound. He brought the ball down
and hirsh I thought they were going to call the
(01:04:33):
foil on Hurst. They called the jump ball. Fortunate there
for Hunt, Yeah, very full. It'll be possessionary of peebles.
But that's far better than the the other choice, which
would have been the fourth file on hersh So thirty
nine to thirty peebles will have the basketball. They throw
it up top on a lob, little curl, little backscreen curl.
(01:04:57):
They just throw it up to the high point there read,
and when he tries to tip it in, Huntington hits him.
Shot does not go.
Speaker 3 (01:05:03):
But he's gonna go to the free throw line there
in the act of shooting.
Speaker 4 (01:05:06):
Yeah, they're just hurting them big time on the inside
right now on the offensive end.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
So Reid's certainly been to the free throw line several
times a night. That free throw is good.
Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
Forty to thirty peebles now by ten as Reed will
get a second.
Speaker 4 (01:05:26):
He is four of it, four of six from the
free throw line tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
Second free throw up, no good good box out from Manson.
So Huntington down ten with the basketball still plenty of
time three eleven to go. Third quarter. Huntington needs to
get a good look here. Hirsch high ball stream Manson.
He his way to Henneberger. Now Manson has it up top,
he'll swing at the Smith. They'll hit hirsh On the
cut his nice runner one hand or up over the top,
(01:05:54):
nice touch.
Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
Hirsch gets at the go forty thirty two. Peoples by eight.
Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
Yeah, big bucket. Gotta get a stop here.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
By side Shibly give way to Connectly again. Connectly and
Reed have had a real nice feel for one another
in the high low game against the hunting matchup Johnson again.
There it is read that time Huntington collapses a little bit,
knocks it loose, but Peoples comes out with the loose ball.
They'll skip it clear across court to Shively. Now Reed
(01:06:22):
cuts into the middle his fourteen foot or no good rebound.
Hirshe of Huntington up to Henneberger, who tries to immediately
throw it across court that Beardsley and.
Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
Throws it into the hunting bench.
Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
Yep, gotta make sure you take care of the basketball.
These offensive possessions are very important here in the second half,
especially under three minutes ago into third quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:06:46):
Peoples by eight with the basketball. Johnson has it on
the left side.
Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
The freshman goes down the corner and I'm saying they
lose Reid on the baseline and becomes wide open.
Speaker 3 (01:06:56):
They drop it. He finishes with the offhand, his left hand,
and the sixth senior starting to have a big night
of his own. Forty two to thirty two People's by ten.
Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
Horse has it up top, comes off of manson ball screen,
penetrates into the middle, gives the Manson and goes and
gets it back and Coach Urgon's is going to take
a time out. They'll go full and we'll step aside
with them. People's forty two hunts and thirty two. You're

Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
I talked, I said, the late game it looks like
Manchester leeds by thirteen over Southern again that winner would
go and play Notre Dame and at eight o'clock matchup.
Remember the all day basketball oppor Keunity at the com
go on Sunday. They try to Huntington coming out of
the time out, try to enter to the wing to
Airy loses it and there's gonna be a tie up situation.
Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
Hunting'll keep possession.
Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
Huntington's had these spurts tonight where offensively it just seems
like nothing's going right. There's no rhythm, and that's costly
in a ten point game. They've got to get some rhythm.
Got to go on a little run here, hirsh.
Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
Off a ball screen and they'll flare Smith nothing there
now hershe'll come get the back. He'll pull up from
sixteen feet shot in the short read having a nice
night on the glass for Peebles as he comes in
averaging six rebounds a game. He certainly has that Toata
all ready. This evening, Johnson gives the corner.
Speaker 3 (01:09:50):
That's simms.
Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Now they overload the side. They get reading the corner,
beardsly admance and trapping there. Peoples comes back out, swings
it all the way right side it shively. Now they
drop it little give and go action and Shively loses
it on the bounce pass and he's gonna be a
last to touch it, turn over back to hunting.
Speaker 4 (01:10:09):
Yeah, that's basically just to set play there. He was
gonna throw it to a spot and he thought his
man was gonna be there and he wasn't there yet,
and that ball goes at a bounce over to Huntington
under a minute to go.
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
So Elliott checks into the game, replacing her share In
this final Monte Smith has it at the point.
Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
Here comes the running jump.
Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
They get, get it, get rid of it to La
and out of beards Ley. Beardsley on the drive basically
plays through no call, shot up, no good. Beardsley goes
to the floor. Well, they're gonna say, you're gonna say
that's Hunke and basketball. My guess is they thought it
was already on the endline when Beardsley went down to
dive on the loose ball.
Speaker 4 (01:10:49):
Yeah, I think that's what he called. Fortunately for a
Huntington there, They had nice shot at her there with
Beardsley just didn't go in.
Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
And Beardsley ends up running the defender over half the gym,
one charge half of them, one's blocking it. A no
call Manson on the inbound rip, screw shot up off
the flash.
Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
No good Elliott back fasket for senior Braden Elliott.
Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
Much needed left here forty two, thirty four Huntington within
eight twenty nine seconds to go.
Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
Let's see if Peebles holds for the final shot.
Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
I would be surprised if they shot this ball before
five seconds.
Speaker 2 (01:11:25):
Reed, kind of directing traffic. Now Sims will come out
and get it with McClary off the floor, Sims running
the point there with Johnson up top, whipphim. Now they're
going to try to go up top shively. He's going
to try a three shot. No good Manson with the rebound,
and that will do it. In terms of three quarters of.

Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
Welcome back to Jackson High School, SHANCOLMBS LOU postage ready
for fourth quarter action. As people's leads at forty two
to thirty four third quarter numbers there, LOU take.
Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
Us through well. If you're Huntington, you cut into the
lead by one, you won that quarter basically eight to seven,
held them to seven points. Hunting ten was four of twelve,
shooting zero from three from beyond New York, so again
not shooting well deep people with only three of ten
shooting there. They did not make a three pointer there
(01:13:32):
that quarter. They were zero of four.
Speaker 2 (01:13:36):
People starts the final quarter with possession. It was a
penetration from Ryan and Hirsch was able to reach in
and tie him up. So obviously the possession era will
favor hunting as people just started the quarter with the ball.
So now Huntington with the basketball a chance to cut
into this eight point deficide. Hirsh across the timeline. The
running jump comes from Ryan on the opposite side, turned
(01:14:00):
him right into a well done by the People's defense.
Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
It's going to be another tie up. This one will
go back to people.
Speaker 4 (01:14:06):
Yeah, he was coming and jumping just as Heirsh was
making a spin move, so he had no idea he
was coming. He's got to communicate with one another out there,
letting them know when someone's coming.
Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
A lot of times when it comes from the opposite side,
a lot of coaches will refer to that as the peal.
They'll get that the ball handler to go behind the
back or spin went right into the double team. Peoples
comes back here a skip across the mclary McClary penetrates
the zone. Now has a back goes Ryan on the
left side. Peebles a little bit out of shorts there
in terms of their post. Now they get a little
(01:14:38):
bit more organized. Really not in a hurry at all.
Up up eight, with seven minutes of playing the game.
Clairey drops it in the high post. Connectly, he draws
two or three green jerseys. Ball knocked away exactly runs
it down. Now Ryan, I'll try a left side three
point or no good rebound Manson. Manson out left the
(01:14:58):
hirsh six fifty four to go in the game, right
side of Henneberger. Henneberger clows it up top and it's
picked off. I read read one on one with Manson
in the open court. He goes to the left hand
and lays it in. Carson Reid forty four to thirty four.
Time out hunt and we'll stay here this time. And
(01:15:19):
you know what two possessions there are hunting with a
chance to cut up to six maybe five. And there's
another live ball turnover just like that, right back to ten.
Speaker 4 (01:15:26):
Yeah, very frustrating. I know, Coo Jerg you's frustrated down
there again. You're doing things the right way. But you're
just not executing all the way and you're giving up
these easy points. You cannot give up easy points in
a game that's this tight. You know, you work your
way to get it to where you can get it
back to a two possession game. Now they basically extended
(01:15:49):
it to a ten point lead.
Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
Well, Lou, I'll take this opportunity to thank you. I
know we've had a busy week, but but you've been
tearing the equipment back and forth. I've been balancing some
baseball practice, showing up a little laid on you. So
I appreciate you carrying me along. Always love doing a
tournament basketball with you here.
Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
And so far, so good. This week was a trace Junior.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
The hunting still some time down ten, What's one thing
that's got to happen here in the next couple of
minutes for hunting the least, get this to five or
six and have a change.
Speaker 4 (01:16:16):
Every offensive possessions got to be a quality offensive possession.
If you don't score that fine, but it's got to
be a quality possession to where you're getting the quality
opportunity defensively, limit them to one shot every time down.
You do that, get yourself right back into this ball game.
Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
So at six forty two out of the time out,
it's gonna be hunting basketball. It's like peebles will pick
up in the full court again. They've been staying up
on the on ball and then they've been running and
jumping at various spots on the floor. So as the
point guard, you want to try to keep that ball
in the middle of the floor and keep the head
up first. One on one there goes to the right hand.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
Now cross the.
Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
Timeline gives way to Henneberger up top, beards leap Bearsley
right side. It's Manson up top, persh Now Henneberger has it.
Big possession here for Huntington. Try to get this back
under ten. Manson will try it right side three and
he got it. Big time shot, need it in the junior.
(01:17:15):
Delivered forty four thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
Seven Huntington within seven.
Speaker 4 (01:17:19):
That is equality, offensive possession. Took your time, got a
good shot, made it. Now it's down to seven.
Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
Beardsley with some ball pressure. Now Huntington looking like they're
trying to match up. The problem is the versatility of Reed.
Manson's gonna have to come out and get a count.
Reid has it out top now gonna wave McClary to it.
People's in a complete spread, awfully early to take the
air out of the ball, but certainly up seven.
Speaker 3 (01:17:45):
Having some success here on this possession.
Speaker 4 (01:17:47):
See you do this. I think this takes away from
your offensive rhythm.
Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
Near turnover to back court. They run it down, mclary
has it, Beardsley continues the pressure.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
Now between them.
Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
What a tough foul on Beardsley there, and he's applying
good pressure. So the foul breaks the five count, which
was probably around three or four. It was, Yeah, if
I'm peoplecause I'm not spreading the floor right now. I'm
just they're playing you man. You got to go with
your strength, and that's some of these guys are able
(01:18:22):
to drive and get the ball inside and score.
Speaker 3 (01:18:26):
Dropping in bounds.
Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
Johnson double team there, swinging to mclary and again he's
got it all the way out top guarded by Hirsh
give his way to read Read draws a double team,
STIPs it down diagonal mclary. They lost him behind the
entire defense and he lays it in forty six thirty seven,
a successful possession for People's running about forty five seconds
(01:18:49):
and shoot a layup bear has it on the left
side up top Henneberger. How it's mansit on the right
side and just knocked down a triple Hirsch high get
hard drive to the baseline, shot up, No good, but
a foul. See if they give them the I don't
think they're going to put it on the baseline.
Speaker 4 (01:19:09):
And I don't even know if they called it on
the person who was guarding hersh I thought they called
it on somebody else a little higher on.
Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
The floor, Hennenburger.
Speaker 2 (01:19:22):
The inn bound drops it backside block the herse shot
up through contact good forty six thirty nine, hunted back
to seven four forty one in counting hunting and desperate
need of a stop. Claire across the timeline between the legs.
Beardsley again good ball pressure and Coacherry's gonna use time
(01:19:44):
out there for people.
Speaker 3 (01:19:45):
So at four thirty three, let's see if they go
shorter long hair. It looks long.
Speaker 2 (01:19:49):

The Unioda Girls had their season come to an enn
Avon Lake beats you and.
Speaker 3 (01:21:18):
The other forty seven thirty seven.
Speaker 4 (01:21:19):
Oh wow, look at dis turnover.
Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
Yeah, right out of the time out hunting.
Speaker 4 (01:21:28):
See, that's why I don't like going into that mode
where you're.
Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
I agree, it's you and I talked about it last
night in terms of taking the air out of the bass.
Speaker 4 (01:21:36):
That's way too much time.
Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
So again Huntington calls it the turnover. So now with
four thirty one, hunting back in possession down seven certainly
an opportunity to get back to that mark.
Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
Did I just I was talking to you about a
couple of minutes ago.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
A big offensive possession here Hirst Downhill had to step
on mclary. McClary is able to ride for a couple
of dribbles and they get him on the foul. That
might have been one that you wish they wouldn't have
called because he kind of had a path to the basket,
or if he would have just thrown that ball up
there and get that one to go in for it.
It hirsh over the top, they lose sight of him
(01:22:15):
and nice little cut the right off the ob under
Hirsh with a little short jumper hunting and all of
a sudden within five.
Speaker 4 (01:22:22):
Yeah, showed great strength. Theyre going right through the defense
to make that one over on the right side.
Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
Johnson has it, turns down the ball screen. Now drives
hard to the right hand, shot up off the glass
and good impressed the new for the freshman in a
really clutch situation. Four minutes ago in the game, Peebles
back up seven, Hirsh to the left hand, gives way
to Manson. Manson goes right side, Ellie ht off the
(01:22:49):
ball screen. Ellie gets to his left hand, which is
his strong hand, gets all the way to the rim.
The shot is blocked and as Peebles comes down with
I think they said that on the end line. So
good break for Hunty then to get possession back.
Speaker 4 (01:23:04):
Yeah, that was a good job there, Honeyton. And again
you're good drive by Elliott. He just wasn't able to
get a ten for that ball to go in because
he got tipped. Hunterton throws it out top, Elliott goes
up high for the catch. Now Beardsley has it. Beardsley
penetrating out there, gives way to Manson. Manson up top,
Hirsh Hirsh retreat dribble with the left hand three point
(01:23:30):
thirty one in counting high ball screen Hirst to the
right hand ribble. Now a little flair. Henneberger will try
a three at the top of the key.
Speaker 3 (01:23:37):
No good. Elliott up high for a rebound.
Speaker 2 (01:23:40):
But lost it and Peebles back in possession of the basketball.
So three point fifteen and counting. Peebles up seven with
the ball. Johnson has it over on the left wing.
He uses the right hand ribble middle kicks it back out.
Reid's gonna try a three, No good, Henneberger had the rebound,
Johnson ended up taking. You can get away from him,
(01:24:00):
but Johnson's gonna be called for the foul.
Speaker 4 (01:24:03):
Yeah, you gotta be careful there if you're Peoples. Couple
players making some reactions and calls and you cannot do
that they put them.
Speaker 2 (01:24:16):
I think some players thought the balls and play. The
baseline official hadn't returned yet for him. Signtween the foul
to the scores table. So forty eight to forty one,
Peoples by seven. Huntington has the basketballs we'd come up
on a three minute mark remaining here in the game.
Beardsley into the open court there, kicks back to Niburgh
Elliott with a left.
Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
Side three and he got it.
Speaker 4 (01:24:37):
Big time shot there.
Speaker 2 (01:24:38):
Brayton Elliott who had eight points in that Simmons Valley
win a couple of big plays here in the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:24:44):
Forty eight to forty four. Huntington hasn't been this close
in quite a while.
Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
They're within four. Good pressure from Beardsley over on the
right side, back up top Reid again. Peebles kind of
gone away from their aggressive offense and Huntington's defense starting
to impact a little bit. Reed drives gives way the sims.
Sims into the middle. Those are over the right side.
Johnson spins the middle, locked by Elliott, ball russe on
(01:25:10):
the floor. Henneberger goes down and gets it, and I
think they're gonna get Henneberger on the tackle again.
Speaker 3 (01:25:15):
When he went to the loose ball, I think he
caught the foot.
Speaker 4 (01:25:19):
Yeah. One official had a timeout for Peebles. The coach
was calling the two other officials they are calling a foul,
So we'll see if they stick with the UH time
out here or not. No people is just going to
take it out under, So just a.
Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
Loose ball fouls of Peebles two sixteen to go. They're
up four with the basketball.
Speaker 3 (01:25:44):
A little screen to screen or action.
Speaker 2 (01:25:46):
They go off and side and loose cannat wait and
and again we had a whistle on the opposite side.
Speaker 3 (01:25:53):
Did we have I'm not sure what the whistle was for.
Speaker 4 (01:25:58):
I think there is a foul call on Unting too.
That's on Hannenburger number. That's his fourth. That was away
from the basketball. Fortunately they did call that because they
had a wide open guy on the backside here.
Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
They ran a little screen to screen or can actually
came wide open. They run the same play here, better
job on the backside from hunting So they throw it
all the way out top to Red Beardsley brides a
knocking away from behind. Who's going to be called for
the file? So that's Huntington's fourth team file. Loo's like
going to be Beardsley's second. So the next Huntington file
(01:26:41):
is send Peebles to the free throw line. Reid'll be
the inbound guy. They throw it all the way in
the back court. The sims Sims a sixty two percent
free throw shooter. If you want to put him on
the line or how.
Speaker 4 (01:26:56):
To get Hurst.
Speaker 3 (01:26:57):
That's his fourth.
Speaker 4 (01:26:58):
That's a ticky tag file there, So not don't make
any factor in that play right there, and I thought
he barely got him.
Speaker 2 (01:27:07):
If anything, this is certainly the foul on herspin his
fourth could certainly impact this game in the final two minutes.
As I said, Sims, a sixty two free throw shooter,
hasn't been in the line of Ton this year, comes
in averaging less than three points a game. First free throw, Wow,
(01:27:30):
my goodness. I think he bounced a way up in
the air, hit the rim three more times and went through.
So a nice touch there for Sims.
Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
Forty nine forty four Sims will get a second one
second free throw.
Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
That one bounces a round three or four times, comes
off and kennetically takes it away from Manson. Now Ryan
or a left corner three, No good Beardsley with a rebound.
Hunton has numbers Beardsley out in the open court, tripped
up from behind. That's going to be the fourth team
foul on Peebles. Now, that's one of those threes on
(01:28:08):
the other end by a really good shooter, Ryan. That
could have been a dagger, but the quick shot. At
least he gives hunting a chance to come back and
only be down five with the basketball.
Speaker 4 (01:28:19):
Yeah, another big offensive possession here for Huntington, and again
you got you bring Hendenburger back in the game here
offensively doesn't look like he's coming.
Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
They run Hirst from the ball side corner for three.
Good look at it, just doesn't go in and Read
with another rebound man he's been good on the last night.
Speaker 3 (01:28:36):
Beardsly reaches in and almost able to take it away.
But it's going to be a foule. So that'll be
Beardsley's third.
Speaker 2 (01:28:44):
We're gonna walk all the way to the other end
here and send Carson Reid back to the free throw line.
The six to two senior people's leading scorer has really
been good tonight. He's scored the basketball, he's rebounded, his
versatility has really been a factor in this thing.
Speaker 4 (01:29:02):
Yeah, right here, you gotta hope for some missus here
free throw line, and you have to make sure you rebound.
Speaker 2 (01:29:10):
Read's first free throw is up in and out. So
now second free throw for Red. Big big rebound opportunity
for Huntington here on the last miss free throw there,
unable to wrap it up with a defensive rebound, read
(01:29:30):
second free throw, that's no good again an offensive rebound McClay.
Speaker 3 (01:29:35):
He tips it in.
Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
That's a backbreaker. Fifty one forty four, one forty to go.
That comes hersh right side the Beardsley. Beardsley tries the three,
and the guy to who gave Beardsley left hand rebel
rises up, knocks it down and time out here. We'll
stay here so we can reset everybody. Lou fifty one
forty seven People's by four. We have one thirty two
(01:29:58):
to go. From this point on, all files are going
to be two free throws, and Peoples is going to
have the ball in the full court that can run
the baseline.
Speaker 3 (01:30:08):
So take me through this.
Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
If you're hunting here a little bit still plenty of time,
one thirty two to two possession. Go ahead and give
your your pressure in the back court a little bit
of an opportunity before.
Speaker 3 (01:30:17):
You give the foul.
Speaker 4 (01:30:18):
Yeah, I think so. I think you you know, if
they get to pass in and I think you still
try to trap, maybe try to get the second pass,
but then I think you have to foul. They've shown
there they've missed some foul shots. That was a huge
putback for People's there. You had just got the second
foul shot missed there of two and they get a
put back to put them up seven points. You take
(01:30:40):
that away after you hit that three. Now you're only
down two. So that was a big air there for
Huntington not getting that rebound after the missed free throw.
Speaker 2 (01:30:49):
The eight Peoples players that have played the night shoot
it anywhere from fifty six to seventy three percent from
the free throw line, so you probably want to keep
Packs and Ryan off of the free throw line. Everyone
else is kind of an even foul opportunity. Ball inbound
there to read. Doctor said that thou Reid has it,
(01:31:10):
he'll dribble hard across. Elliot steps up and pokes it
away on the trap. Out comes Huntingon with a turnover.
Manson has a tries to throw it down to Elliott.
Ball now loose and it's gonna go back to Peebles.
Huntinging didn't have to be in that big a hurry.
They calls the turnover and then just unable to convert
and transition, so they're gonna turn it back over to Peebles.
Speaker 3 (01:31:30):
One sixteen to go. People still leads by four.
Speaker 4 (01:31:33):
That was a bigg they got the turnover that they needed,
and they had the opportunity.
Speaker 3 (01:31:37):
Then Bell McClary, Huntington tries the trap. Now it's up
to Johnson.
Speaker 2 (01:31:42):
Johnson ribbles through a trap back out and they're going
to get the file there. So the freshman Bo Johnson,
a sixty one percent free throw shooter, comes in averaging
nine points a game here in his rookie season.
Speaker 4 (01:31:57):
That'll be five fouls on Carson Hennenberger for Honey too.
Speaker 2 (01:32:03):
Of Coursing, a five nine senior, going to be his
last game in the in the Green and White if
the Huntsmen aren't able to make up this four point
deficit here in the last one to oh.
Speaker 4 (01:32:13):
Eight, Coach sure taking all the time he's allotted here
before he gets a sub.
Speaker 3 (01:32:20):
In to go to Hirsh.
Speaker 2 (01:32:25):
He was protecting Hirsch defensively with the four files there.
Now Hirsch comes back in as his hunting hopes to
be going on offense. Now, keep in mind Peoples has
missed the last two free throws. On the second free throw,
Huntington hasn't other rebound first free throw good, So fifty
two forty seven, even with a make here still going
(01:32:46):
to be a two possession Huntington's just got to go
down and get a good look at it.
Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
Johnson second free throw. He got it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:56):
Good looking stroke from the freshman there. Certainly going to
be a good one for Peebles over the next three years.
Fifty three forty seven Peoples by six one oh eight
versus got it. Hunton's got to go with the little
tempo here it comes across the timeline. Hunts had taken
(01:33:17):
a minute to get.
Speaker 3 (01:33:17):
Into their set here. They got to go. Now go
his left side. Arie's gonna try three to got it.
Speaker 2 (01:33:23):
Nice little drive set there the double screen, and Aria
comes off and knocks it down and lou don't look now.
But hunting within three of fifty three to fifty time
out on the floor fifty one point six seconds ago.
Speaker 4 (01:33:36):
They were in no hurry, and they were gonna be
patient on unoffensive possessions, and fortunately they were able to
hit that. But yeah, you have to be in more
of a h you know, a hurry to get that
stuff happening. You get down to fifty one point six again,
I think it's just first path. Try to trap it,
try to get a steal off of it, even maybe
try to force them to get it to cross in
(01:33:58):
ten seconds. I don't know if you have to foul
right away.
Speaker 3 (01:34:01):
It's this three.
Speaker 2 (01:34:02):
You know it's a three point game. It's only a
one possession game. Hey, here's another interesting point too. I
was always a big film watcher, a big stat person.
As a coach, I would go in having an idea
who I wanted to foul. But is each game takes
on a little bit. Sometimes you trust your gut in
your eye. Take me through that a little bit right
now in the huddle, Like you know, in terms of
trying to pick out who you want to put on
the free throw line for people, Well, a guy that I.
Speaker 4 (01:34:25):
Saw miss two free throws and when they got their
offensive rebound is Read Reeds. A guy's going to have
the ball in his hands. He's missed his last three
free throws. Does that mean he's due to make him
I don't know, but that could be somebody maybe you
go after, because he's definitely going to have the ball
in his hands. If not, maybe number five Colin simms't
really have a lot of shots.
Speaker 3 (01:34:46):
Here in this game.
Speaker 4 (01:34:47):
He's made one of two free throws, but again he's
a guy throwing it in. If they go right back
to him, maybe you foul him.
Speaker 2 (01:34:53):
Yeah, good backup point guard, but again on the year,
doesn't get to the free throw line a lot either,
which I think is important. McClary sprints on the back side,
they get it in and they're going to give the
foul there Beardsley, so that's going to be his fourth. Individually,
Josh McClary averages ten point two points a game. He's
a sixty four percent free throw shooter on the season, so.
Speaker 3 (01:35:19):
Forty nine point three. Claire will step up.
Speaker 2 (01:35:27):
Coach Arie'll use this first free throw opportunity to huddle
with the other four. First free throw good, that's a
big one. That pushes it back to at least two
possession there at fifty four to fifty, mcclary'll get a second.
Elliott and Manson are your two low Huntington guys that
got to be able to box.
Speaker 3 (01:35:47):
Out here.
Speaker 4 (01:35:49):
For the fixing the time or.
Speaker 2 (01:35:53):
I think we're all set now. McClary couple dribbles, sets it,
shot up and good big free throws there. Browning will
check into the game for mclary. Little offense defense there
(01:36:14):
fifty five fifty hunting and trails by five still have
time at forty nine point three. Hearsch'll push it up
for the Huntsman high ball stream. It's a double high
ball stream. Hearst is going to try a right side three.
No good, La keeps a live. Hurst runs it down
firsties it back back to Airy. Now gives it back
to hurshears with a deep three. That one's short. Beards
(01:36:38):
Lee running down the rebound and it's gonna go out
of bounds off of Huntington. As a good job by
Braden Elliott on that first miss to keep the ball alive.
Hunting got a second opportunity, just couldn't get the three
to go down. So Peeble's up five with the basketball
thirty seconds remaining again, same to play. McLay just comes
(01:37:00):
down the side. Hirst can't give that file. He's got
four now on it up in court. Now people's gonna
play keep away. Someone's got to give a foul air.
He finally gets read all the way down to twenty
one seconds, so people's able to milk nine seconds there.
Speaker 4 (01:37:17):
So your hope here is that he only makes one
of the two. And Kim said had a two possession game.
Speaker 2 (01:37:23):
Yeah, well, sudden lou fifty five fifty So the two
free throws here. If it pushes the seven, I don't
know if Huntington'll get three more possessions, it'll be tough.
Breachs first free throw is good, fifty six fifty. Carson
reed with a second opportunity coming up, shot up. That
(01:37:47):
one's good, so again fifty seven fifty. The key here
tempo wise, if you're hunting and you know you at
least need three shots at the baskets, you're gonna have
to go with here a little bit, with some tempo.
Speaker 4 (01:37:58):
And People's People has made seven of ten free throws
here in the fourth quarter. Again, he shot seventy percent
in high school basketball. As a team, you're gonna win
some games.
Speaker 3 (01:38:07):
No doubt about. Smith checks back into the game here
for Huntington. Horse has got it.
Speaker 2 (01:38:19):
Across the timeline, walks right into a three shot up.
It was partially blocked. Elliott runs it down, saves it
in bounds and peebles. It's Johnson gonna secure it, and
that's pretty much gonna do it. Huntington has to foul
Johnson and we'll walk to the other end. Nine point
seven on the clock, fifty seven to fifty, and it
(01:38:42):
looks like it's gonna be Peebles advancing the Sunday's Final
because it's going to be an all Shack final with
North Adams and Peebles doing battle for a third time.
Speaker 3 (01:38:57):
Free throw up. That's good.
Speaker 4 (01:39:02):
It's perfect here in the fourth quarter as Johnson or
a freshman, that's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:39:06):
He's three for three the freshman now at nine points,
fifty eight to fifty. The Johnson makes this one, he'll
go into double figures. Shots good, fifty nine to fifty.
(01:39:26):
I'm not gonna get one more shot at it here,
but uh, it's like it's going to be the end
of the road here for Huntington with an outstanding second
half of the year. First down off the dribble, pools.
Speaker 3 (01:39:38):
Up for a three. That one's partially blocked as well,
and that's.
Speaker 15 (01:39:43):
Going to do it.
Speaker 3 (01:39:45):
The People's Indians.

Speaker 2 (01:43:23):
The two themes I had throughout the night was guarded
at three point line and take care of the basketball.
I think Hunton gets a gold star for guarding the
three point line and overall defensively not too bad. Unfortunately,
the inability to take care of the basketball there in
the second quarter kind of ends up proving to be
the difference in what ended up being about a three
(01:43:43):
four five point game.
Speaker 3 (01:43:44):
Most of the second half of that fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:43:46):
Yeah, and again they battled all game long, got it
down to three points at one point there in the
fourth quarter, just could not get over the hump. Again,
Peebles did not have a three point bucket in the
second half. They were zero for five from beyond New York.
And here's a stat that stands out to me. On
the night, Peoples was sixteen of twenty three from the
(01:44:09):
free throw line seventy percent. Again, good high school shooting
for the free throw line, and Huntington was only three
for four.
Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
Well and a little bit, that's the foul game down
the streets. But you you kind of highlighted in the
first half. You were impressed with how Peebles got real
aggressive in the high low.
Speaker 3 (01:44:27):
Game and playing downhill to the basket.
Speaker 4 (01:44:29):
Yeah, and again, as I said, it was about all
night long for Huntington, and hats off to them. They
did not give up, you know, to come back. And
really they were down ten in the second quarter. I
thought it was more than ten. It felt like more
than ten, I agree, But they came back there and
gave themselves a chance. Nothing to hang your hat about
or head about here in this game. You were very
(01:44:51):
close to going on to the next level here, and
a lot of people in Huntington would not have thought
that that would have been a possibility at the beginning
of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:44:59):
Well, you look back through the quarters, people's let sixteen
to ten after one, thirty five, twenty six at half.
They still let forty two to thirty four after three,
and they went at fifty nine to fifty. So when
I look back at my notes, the real difference in
the game, I'll throw two things at you. I'd love
to hear your comment there in the second quarter, the
hirsh foul trouble and the time he spent on the
(01:45:19):
bench certainly in terms of a plus minus, People's really
able to take some advantage there, and during that stretch
they were able to do it with a little bit
of their run and jump the peel game, the trap
game right around three quarter half court.
Speaker 4 (01:45:31):
Yeah, and again not only just hirsh It was Hanenburger
also out of the game in that town good point two.
So those two out really heard Huntington and People's did
take the uh, you know, take that opportunity to add
to their lead by getting those deals. I think there
are four straight possessions they got to steal in a layup.
Speaker 16 (01:45:50):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:45:51):
And when you can do that, that's a backbreaker for
a lot of teams. But as I say, hats off
to Huntington. They kept coming back and coming back and
giving them the selfs a chance.
Speaker 2 (01:46:01):
Here's another thing I really think we need to highlight
a Huntington team. We said in the pre game started
one to nine. They finished seven and five coming into
the night. So they finished seven and six. Let's highlight
the seniors here. Bradon Elliott's a senior, Seth rockmoreon the
senior of course, and Henneberger a senior and gave Beardsley.
And the reason I say that is when you start
one and nine, you talk about an easy excuse to
(01:46:23):
cash it in. Huntington obviously didn't do that. And you
and I've been doing this long enough to know that
seniors play a big role on night. So again I
would applaud those guys.
Speaker 4 (01:46:32):
Yeah, and again I thought Elliott came in and gave
him real good minutes off the bench. There it kept
balls alive on the offensive end. Beardsley played well all
night long. And Hennenburger, you know he struggled at times tonight,
but again he was out there on the floor giving
them opportunities there late in the fourth quarter. So again, yeah,
(01:46:54):
you're gonna say goodbye to those seniors, but you look
at those youngsters that were out there playing two and
the valuable experience they got a plane.
Speaker 3 (01:47:01):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:47:01):
It's some people say, well, maybe they went one game
further than they should have. Well, that one game further
is a positive because you've got to win in one
of those games, and when you get a tournament when
that's a big plucks, especially for those younger.
Speaker 3 (01:47:14):
Guys, no question about it.
Speaker 2 (01:47:16):
So gett people's ones at fifty nine fifty, we'll step
away real quick to give coach just one more break
to come up, and if he does it, we understand
when the season ends like this, you spend the little
extra time with your kids. But why don't we, Sidney,
why don't we take a one minute time out. We'll
come back and if we don't have coach, we'll wrap
it up. The Shane comes Lou posters post game coverage

Welcome back postgame coverage here at Jackson High School where
Peebles has defeated Hunt in fifty nine to fifty and
Peoples would advance the Sunday's final take on North Adams,
who defeated Rockhill in our first game here this evening
seventy two to fifty nine and Luba. Before we get
out of here, why don't we take a look at
some individual scoring from him.
Speaker 4 (01:49:03):
Yeah, for Peebles tonight, they were led by fourteen points
for Carson Reid, thirteen for Grady Connectley, eleven for Josh
McCleary ten for Bo Johnson's with four guys in double
figures for Peebles, five points for Paxton Ryan, three points
for Hayden Browning, and one points for Colin Simms. For
(01:49:25):
the Huntington Huntsmen, they were led tonight with twelve points
for Frankie Hirsch, eleven points for Calvin Manson, ten to
each from Eli Eerie and Gave Beardsley, five points from
Braden Elliott and two points for Carson Heneberger.
Speaker 3 (01:49:41):
Well on what jumps out at me is I listened
to that.
Speaker 2 (01:49:43):
You know, you don't get surprised by Reid Johnson and
McClary because they're right on their averages pretty much there.
But man, the connectly comes in averaging around four game
the thirteen from him. You and I really will say
that name quite a bit throughout the first half, and
sometimes in a game that's basically a five to six
to seven point game, you get a role player like
that step up a little bit. We talked about that
(01:50:04):
in the pre game. I thought he was really big
for him to night again.
Speaker 4 (01:50:07):
They saw something on film against that zone that they
thought they could exploit, and they went after it hard.
They're in the first half and did a good job
second half not quite as much. So you know, Huntington
did a much better job of that type of matchup
in the second half.
Speaker 2 (01:50:22):
Well, final comment from you, lu Let's look ahead to
the next forty eight hours. Going to have two Conbo opportunities.
A Division four district championship chance for Uniota, a Division
five District championship opportunity for Zane Trace.
Speaker 3 (01:50:35):
Talk to me about the next two nights of the convo.
Always a fun place to go.
Speaker 4 (01:50:38):
It sure is, And again I think that's both teams
are going in on a high. I think both teams are.
You have great opportunities to win district titles. You and
Iodo with what they've shown all year long, they're tough
matchup for anyone, and going against a Waverley team that
struggled many times throughout the year, sure they're on a
(01:50:58):
slight role right now. I think Hontington you go or
Uniota you go into that game. I think you're pretty
satisfied the way you're playing right now and you want
to just keep that train rolling. And then you look
at Zane Trace. I think they surprised themselves the other
night that how well they played against the physicality of
a Carington and I think if they say, hey, if
we come out and play that same type of physicality
(01:51:20):
against his Minford team, we have a chance. Now, Minford's
had some great players, Don't get me wrong, they have
guys that can really put up points. But I think
Zane Trace can go out there and play with anyone. Well,
I'm want to step aside tomorrow. I got some baseball requirements,
look forward to watching or listening. I should say to
you and Jacob here on the WKKJ side, and then
on Friday, I'll make the trip down the Athens and
(01:51:42):
we'll call San Trace.
Speaker 2 (01:51:44):
So enjoy tomorrow night. Fans, make sure you can get
that obviously ninety four point three on the FM side
or iHeart Radio no matter where you're at, you can listen.
Make sure you're following these top two teams in the.
Speaker 3 (01:51:55):
SVC as they go.
Speaker 2 (01:51:57):
So on that note, thank you so much Sidney for
all your efforts throughout the week, and again here tonight,
lou again, thank you for all that you do in
terms of the equipment and everything kind of carrying me
along on.
Speaker 3 (01:52:06):

Speaker 2 (01:52:08):
