Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is high school and basketball on ninety four Country WKKJ.
Now let's hit the game side for today's pregame show
on ninety four Country.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the Hernstein Hunday SBC
Game of the Week here on ninety four Country WKKJ.
I'm Shane Combs sitting courtside with Clay Archer, and it's
our pleasure to bring you this matchup as the Southeastern
Panthers visit the Waverley Tigers in Clay. Take a look
at this here, the Southeastern Panthers coming in at seven
and three, take a little break from SBC play over

(00:36):
the holidays. They're sitting three and three fourth place, and
really look at seven to three, mark are there? Only
three losses are to the three teams tied to top
the SBC and Zane Trace West fall in Uniota. Waverley
schedule wise, hasn't played as much two and three. The
SEC play will not take place until the calendar turns
twenty twenty five, so they're still waiting to play in

(00:57):
the league play. But I guess let's start with Southeastern.
I know you and I had a chance to watch
him play quite a bit early in the year. I
haven't seen him play in a couple of weeks. I'm
real excited that. But I know the last time we
watched them, we both went went away from it really
impressed absolutely.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
You know, you look at this score.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
It was a fifty two to forty two win for
and whenever they played Huntington, I think we both agree
that it was a little bit more lopside than their
final score says there. And then they had a like
you said, they went literally right into that. They had
to have all the confidence in the world just to
go in.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
And lose the Uniodazay and trace and back to back games.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
And then they played in west Ball really really tough
sixty eight sixty three loss there, which I think west
Fall I think we thought everybody thought was gonna be
good this year. I think we can all be pleasantly
surprised at them being tied at the top of the SEBC.
So I think, you know, Southeastern, it's been a while
since they have had success running through that program, and

(01:53):
I think, you know, the good thing about basketball other
than football, is you play a team.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Once you get to turn around and get the played
in the game.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
So you know, I'm excited to see whenever they do
finally come around and play that Westball team again.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
You're Nyoda and Zane Trace.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
But as far as tonight, coach, you know you're coming
into an environment. Yes, it is a regular season game,
but it's holiday break.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
You've had probably the day off. You know, it's a
little bit different than normal where.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
You kind of going to school and everything, but coming
into a gym like this, coach, I mean, this is
a historical gym down in Waverley, and it just kind
of adds a different kind of pressure to the way
that you're playing. Well, I don't care if it's a
sectional game, if it's a regular season game. And then
being able to bounce back already having a forty four
to thirty win against a Man of Clear Creek after
that Westball game, I think it's going to be very

(02:41):
beneficial for them going to this game rather than coming
off the loss, and this's happened to be their first game.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Coach, Well, I agree, And you mentioned the Southeastern You
know they have such rich tradition, but keep in mind
it's been since twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen season, whenever thirteen
eleven where the Panthers will last hot a winning record,
So I know it's something, uh.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
I remember, jolly coach Ally's talked.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Openly to me about there on our scoreboard show, which,
by the way, the Acurdheat and Cooling and Plumbing scoreboard
show later not on WKKJ.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
We've been getting thirteen to fourteen coaches the week. Make
sure to check that out. But I know he's talked
openly to me. You know that took all of theirs.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
And at seven and three, obviously, tonight marks the halfway
point of the twenty two game season. Playing game number
eleven eight and three sells a lot there in seven
and four. If you're the Southeastern Panthers. Let's look over
to the other side here, Clay. This Waverley team heard
a lot about their youth. I've been watching them on
film quite a bit. This is our first time beautiful
seat here here at the Downtown Arena. The Waverley certainly

(03:40):
passes the eye tests. They have nice link, good athleticism,
but certainly you look at the great column. They're going
to start a freshman and four sophomores on most night.
Just talk to me a little bit about the excitement
of getting to see this group plut.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
I'm very excited. One I wasn't playing in particularly right now.
He's actually not even a starter. But kid Carroll, I
think he's going to be a name that you're gonna
hear us say a lot here tonight coming off the bench.
When I look at this Waverley team coach, to me,
it looks like standard good football team coming into a
basketball season. They start off the season, they lose the

(04:13):
same trace, they lose to Hillsborough, they lose the Western
right off the bat, and then they turn around, they
beat Northwestern, they beat Eastern. I believe they would have
won the galley game if it was played, but then
it got resk outed to January. And the reason I
say this looks like a good football team coming into
basketball is you know, whenever your football team goes in
the playoffs, you lose not just that week that they play,

(04:34):
but most basketball teams have already started a week before
playoffs have even started. So then your football players are
coming in a little bit late. They're trying to get
the basketball shape, they're trying to get reacclimated with the
plays and everything from summer league.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
So you kind of expect.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
The team like this to come in a little sluggish,
and then you can kind of see in the Western game.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
There was a thirty eight to thirty four game.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
You could see in that game, all right, they're starting
to turn around, They're starting to get their legs in,
they're starting to get set.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
World.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
So if I'm Southeastern, I'm not looking at Waverley's win
lost column tonight. I'm looking at the other side of
the court and saying, this was a team that can
match up very well against this So we need to
come out with our A game tonight.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
Well, should be a good one against Southeastern. Visit Waverley.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
We look forward to having it here for you on
the Hernstein Hondi SBC Game of the Week. Let's take
a short time out and klay Archer and I'll be
back to continue our pre game again here on WKKJA

Welcome back Waverley's Downtown Gymnasium, the sah Hernstein HONDEI SBC
Game of the Week, Southeastern visiting Waverley, Shane Colmes with
Clay Archer and play. As we continue our pregames, I
just want to talk to you a little bit about
the point guard play of Wyane Williams. It's something we
highlighted the first time we had the Panthers, and I
just feel like a consistency gives coach ility such a

(06:52):
steady rock. He's talked to me about it quite a bit,
and slowly but surely you see the sophomore Brandon Burn
start to come on, starting to see the growth, you know,
the consistency in terms of effort. Carter Fisher is gonna
bring you up, but Southeastern starting to get six, seven,
eight different guys in bold and I think the leadership
of the senior point guard goes a long way and establishing.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Now absolutely I had to go with an NBA comparison coach,
I would go with the Chris Paul just because he
can give you some scoring when you need it, but
he can give you he can give you assist and
he needed but at all times, Lane Williams is out
there pretty.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Much just being the second coach from coach Alley.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
I mean, there's plenty of times, especially in gym like this,
what if it's a close game and it'sgates loud, coach
is going to try and be telling everybody from the
sidelines what to be doing, what are we doing? And
when you're in the complete backside of the corner, there's
always no way you're going to hear him. That's where
it comes Lane to be that floor generator, letting everybody
know what's going on, make sure people are in the
right places and not getting into the offense before everybody

(07:54):
knows where they need to be.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Well, I think that's well said, and I think that's
the difference is you get into that third year junior,
fourth year senior compared to the freshman sophomore. Obviously, if
you're a freshman sophomore and varsity, you're very talented, but
there's there's no supplement for that experience. And when you're
talking about that, I think Blaine certainly gives that very
familiar now into this year what coach Ally's wanting, and

(08:18):
is able to quarterback a lot of those. So I
think that's going to be an interesting matchup to watch tonight.
I've had a chance to see this as a cage
Alexander the freshman guard of Waverley and film too, so
should be a lot of fun. Tell you what, As
the teams break the court and come over to the side,
we're going to be coming up on the national anthem
play and I'll step aside and we'll be back to

(08:40):

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Heard sign Hoday SBC Game of the Week here on
ninety four Country WKKJ Shane Holmes play Archer the Beautiful
Waverley Downtown Jymnazy Southeastern Panthers, your visiting team, the Sea
and being announced in the home team, the Waverley Tigers,
will be here in just a minute. While they're doing that,
why don't I catch you up on the starting lineups

(12:09):
on the Southeastern side.

Speaker 5 (12:10):
Huhuh.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Three guard line up there for coach Isley, as we
said there in our pregame coverage, led by their point guard.

Speaker 5 (12:17):
The senior Lane Williams.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
He's joined in the back court by sophomore Brayden Burns,
junior gauge Cheatle and then down on the post the
six two junior Brevin Strawsball and then the five eleven
Carter Fisher, a senior. Over On the Waverly side, probable
starters a freshman and four sophomore. Is that freshman is

(12:41):
their point guard, a five to ten cage Alexander the left.
He can really score. Enjoyed watching him on film, looking
forward to seeing him in person here this evening.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Both Myers Gunner and Sawyer sophomoores.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Gunner a six four and Sawyer at six y five.
Also in the starting lineup for Coach Bradley will be
Land and Russell, a six ' four sophomore and then
the fifth starter, te Can Hurt a six to two sophomore.

Speaker 5 (13:10):
Play. We get the lights turned off here, nice atmospheres
that night. Go to Inner Two's talk to just about
the match up here a little bit.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
We mentioned the point guard coverage a little bit, but
it's interesting because you have some youth on.

Speaker 5 (13:23):
The Tiger side in one you and.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
I highlighted throughout the year with the Southeastern team a
little bit more junior senier, a little bit more varsity
experience me and.

Speaker 5 (13:31):
I see if that shows up here in early gone.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
I'm really interested to see somebody that we haven't talked
a whole lot about right now, but we definitely did
last game. Carter Fisher. Yeah, who is going to step
up on this Wavery team and not just being able
to have phasically box and out play Dnis.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Who is gonna match his kids and motors.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
Because I don't think I've seen anyone yet this year
or ever be able to do it.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
I mean, the kid is non.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Stop working, He plays way bigger than he actually is,
and he I mean, he's a coach's dream for somebody down.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
So I'm excited to see that match up here.

Speaker 11 (14:01):
Now.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Speaking of Fisher. He'll jump circle for the Panthers against Russell.
Russell goes up and takes the tap and knocks it back,
and Waverley'll have the first possession of the evening.

Speaker 5 (14:11):
Russell looks inside.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
That's Myers taken away on the dig by Cheetle. Out
come the Panthers off the turnover.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Cheet'll look to.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Push Southeastern in their way. Blue Waverley in their home.
White Southeastern moving from my right to left. As I
call the action for you. Waverley coming back left to
right left side, it's Burns, hands it off to Cheetle.
Now comes back to Burns. He'll try a three pointer
too strong rebound by strallsball gives Southeastern another possession. Strallsball

(14:40):
go back up with it and he scores. Revin strallsball
starts to scoring too nothing Southeastern just forty seconds into it.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
That's what she like to see. If you're a Southeastern fan.
Right now, you're getting second chance points.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Fact comes Waverley the other way. Good post feed inside,
that's saw your Myers. He goes to a nice drop
step move up off the glass, tieses the tube.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Entry past that.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
I do believe that was by number ten Alexander beautifully
entry pass there to give it to the big man
and let him go to work.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Bass tipped to the back court, so Southeastern is able
to go recover and keep possession. Al Cheat'll go white side.
That's Fisher. Fisher drives hard baseline to the right hand,
shot up off the glass and good parter. Fisher's showing
you a little bit just at five to ten. I
guess he's listed how it plays a little bit bigger.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
He goes up, gets your shoulders square, coaches exactly what
you need to do as a big man, because you're
either gonna make it or if you miss, you're right there.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
To get your rebound.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Waverley swings it all the way around. Now Stagger's screen
for Alexander and the left. He comes off ready to
fire and knocks it down cage Alexander just as advertised, knocks.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Down to three, gets Waverley the five four advantage.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Something you'd like to see if you're a Waverley fan
right now is all of your points are coming off
of assist a great ball movement keeping the defense moving here.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
If you're Southeastern, I come the Panthers lane williams oh
live block from behind there. Outcome the Tigers transitions an opportunity,
hard drive down the middle. That's Alexander no good. Ball
bounces free and then out of bounds. It looks like
it's gonna be I don't think it was ever touched
off the rebound.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
I think it Burns came down with it and got
slapped out of his hands. I don't think he had
it long enough to have called a rebound, but I'll
put it in there.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Nonetheless, Panthers possession. We've played two minutes by four. Waverley
Southeastern goes left side straws ball. He'll try a three,
No good, Carter Fisher up high for the rebound, shot
up through contact, no call out comes Waverley with it.
Tigers will look to push secondary break it's Alexander in
the middle, draws the contact and plays through it. Shot

(16:40):
up off the glass and good. Alexander with five. Waverley
leads at seven to four.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Alexanders all over the court.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
Right now, Coach, you either getting a rebound, pushing it
up and getting people in a good position.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Kind of a utility player right now for him.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Cheetah over on the left side drives hard middle now
gives away to Stralls ball. Straws ball into the middle
off a right handed dribble and Rerevin Strawngs found a
nice spot that he likes.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
He's hit back to.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Back jumpers from that inside about thirteen feet cuts the
Waverley lead the one at seven to six.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
It has been great defense from both teams.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
As we get a movie screen here on Waverley, did
you disagree with if you'd like? But I feel like
he's been great defense on both teams. Just beautiful offense.
That's just going over a great defense.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Certainly some tough shots here in the early going. I
would agree with that. That time Alexander trying to play
off the ball screen as Clay said, had the moving
screen turns it back over to the Panthers. Williams across
the tinne wine those left corner. Burns will try a three,
no good, pretty good box out from Waverley, but the
ball gets back taped. Southeastern gets possession off the cheetle rebound.
Straws ball one more time from the elbow, this time

(17:44):
too strong outcome to Tigers. With the rebound, Alexander looks
to push thought about the three in transition, now backs
it out, will run the offense, Waverley swings it side
to side. It's Russell on the right wing. He'll drive
hard to the right hand, shot up off the glass
and good Straws ball to rebound out left the Williams
back come the Panthers, Ollie, if.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
Your Burns here, you miss two threes as Fisher goes up,
but then he doesn't get it. I mean, Burns, you
miss two threes. I'm trying to get the ball and
get either get to the free throw line or get
an easy bucket.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
Just see them both go through the hoop and get
your Rhythmllion.

Speaker 5 (18:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
On the one end, a nice dump past the Carter Fisher.
The balls knocked away there. Waveley had a transition opportunity
and they end up throwing it away. So teams both
with an opportunity there don't cash in. That keeps this
Waverley seven Southeastern six. We're just four minutes in here
in the first quarter. Williams into the scrimmage. Ay, He'll
drive hard down the middle, drops the bounce past Straws.

(18:42):
Ball throws the diagonal out the cheetle like out the Burns.
Good patients from the Panthers here, Burns out top crossover,
dribble into the middle, plays through the contact. I think
that's going to be on the pass, so most likely
Southeastern it'll go baseline underneath.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
The coaches. Here's the thing in basketball you hear it
in football.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
For some like the quarterbacks like Joe Burrow says, I
wait till I get hit, and then I feel like
I'm in the game.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
That's what Burns kind.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
Of needs to get get down there and get a
little contact, get your feeling the game, and then get
to where you.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
Need to go, certainly adjusting to the speed of the game.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Off the ob under his Straws ball down underneath and
a nice little move up through contact. Strawsball having a
big first quarter here, he has six Southeastern back in front,
eight to seven Waverley back on the other end, hand
off Alexander. He gets left hand dribbled to the middle,
up through contact, switches over the right hand. I think
he's gonna draw the contact. The freshman's gonna go to

(19:36):
the line and shoot two.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
I think Chet trying to get his hand in there,
just to show it and get it out, and then
I think surprised that he got his hand on with
the ball and just could not get out there, and
as they go up to the shot, and that's gonna
get caught every time.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Coach Cage Alexander, the five ten freshmen will go to
the free throw line shoot our first free throws of
the evening. First shot up is good. I'll tie us
at eight, and Alexandra get another first substitution of the night.
We had the Carol into the game there for Waverley,
and how Gunner Myers into the game there replacing Russell.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
Coach, I think we've been doing a disservice and we
didn't mention the amazing Christmas sucks here that Waverley is
wearing the red and green.

Speaker 5 (20:19):
We'll just notice that that is fasted. Second free throw good.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
Alexander puts the Tigers back in front, nine to eight,
three twenty five first quarter. Williams brings it up. Waverley's
gonna stretch out into a little zone.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
Looks once you two there.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
Coach into the middle, straws ball little high low game
to Fisher. Fisher up through contact too strong rebound, Myers
outcome to Tigers. Alexander will look to push because they
had to Carol back out Alexander. He'll try a right
wing three no good good box out from Cheatle. Back
comes Williams for Southeastern. Three minutes ago, first quarter, nine

(20:54):
to eight. Waverley high post feed in the straws ball
now right inside Cheetle.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Good inside out and Cheetle knocks down to three.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
That's exactly what you want to do.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
Catch shoot, don't think about too much is let it,
let it fly.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
Eleven nine Southeastern two forty four, first quarter. Alexander turns
and looks back to coach Bradley for the call. Now
hands it off to Myers out top.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
It's hurt.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Now back to Alexander now hurt, right side guarded there
by Burns. He'll penetrate. Middle pass was knocked away by Cheetah.
Outcomes Fisher with the steel. Southeastern will look to push
here with Williams. Pretty good transition d from Waverley. Burns
on the left side. This high post straws ball, nice
high low looked the cheetle, nicely done. Cheetah lays it

(21:38):
in and that's gonna draw a time out here from Waverley.
It's a short time out, so we'll stay clay. Back
to back times against the zone. They're able to hit
strawsball high and he and Cheetah on the on the
same page the first time for the three on the
wing that time high low.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
For the way, if you looked up on you two
had to be in a zone, then you would see
what Southeast are doing right now.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
They're bringing them all up.

Speaker 4 (21:56):
Then they're going to pass through the wing to make
a good entry pass there to the top of the
key around.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
That elbow mark.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
And then what they're doing is that they're not just
doing it, they're doing it so fast that Waveley's not
being able to ract fast enough and that has left
Cheaterle or Fisher open on the back end almost every
single time.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
Is textbook how to be his own right now, Coach.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
You know, one of the things I love about watching
teams throughout the year is the improvement of individuals. And
I know we're only about the five six minutes in,
but man, the play of Stralls ball in comparison earlier
in the year far more confident young man.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
I think with Charles ball and I feel like with
Cheetle he's a little bit more confident with the ball
in his hand. I find that first Ontington game that
we played against he was trying to quick to get
out of his hand whether there's a passer shoot.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Now we're seeing to be able to dribble and take
the troll.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Quick hitter action for Waverley with a little double high
elbows set there.

Speaker 5 (22:44):
Alexander got a.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
Decent look at the rim, unable to convert, but Waverley
comes away with the offensive rebound, the keep possession. Now
it's outside Russell. He plays off ball screen Russell back
out top Myers.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
Interesting offensive set.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Yeah, Waverley just stacking at both elbows and playing a
little curl which health each and then tough shot. Alexander
gets down and defended pretty well. But Alexander here in
the early going with nine of Waverley's eleven points and
cut Southeastern's lead the two at thirteen eleven.

Speaker 4 (23:16):
And this is kind of the game that we expected
Coach kind of go into. I felt like these two
teams have just matched up too well with each other, not.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
For it to be a close game.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
Straws Ball in the other end will take a top
of the key three. No good to fight for the rebound.
I think they got cheat o there a little over regress.
So that's his second file which is going to force
coach Ali to go to the bench, and he'll go
to uh in one. Now when I believe who he
went there through the foul trouble.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
Coach Ally talking to Straws were there kind probably the
same thing we're talking about. Burns, you shot two threes,
you've missed them. They were open. But at this point,
get that ball and go down though and make a
move and where you're doing the most damage.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
At thirteen eleven Southeastern one seven team, first quarter, Alexander
walks it up for the Tigers. He'll be guarded by Williams,
goes off a high ball screen.

Speaker 5 (24:08):
Now goes right side. It's Gunner Myers back out top.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Alexander just doing a little four out one end here
for Waverley left side Caro. Now it's Russell back out
Alexander thought about the three. Pretty good defense there from
Southeastern Waverley with one of their more patient possessions of
the evening. Now it's Russell on a little backdoor action
and he puts it up and off the glass.

Speaker 5 (24:30):
Nicely done. Good possession from the Tigers there.

Speaker 4 (24:33):
And every time that we're seeing Southeastern get beat on defense,
it's there reaching in trying to get their hand on
the ball and they're just not recovery fastening back.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
To their man, leaving them wide over well said, way
over aggressive. On the other end, Williams with the penetration.
There's thirty seconds to go into quarter. I don't know
Southeastern will hold for one. It's inside Straws ball. He
backs in one on one shot up, No good. Now
it might be the Tigers chance to get the last shot.
We're tied thirteen thirteen. Coach Bryant, while telling his freshman
point guard that they want the last shot, and he

(25:04):
bocks it out just shy of half court.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Now tend to shoot.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Waverley hats it up top Alexander into the middle, all
the way to the rim.

Speaker 5 (25:13):
Shot up in good cage.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Alexander with the big first quarter, puts Waverley out in front.

Speaker 5 (25:19):
Fifteen thirteen.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
As we come to the end of the first quarter
of ply Shane Colmes Clay Archer. You're listening to Hernstein Hunday,

Welcome back, heern Snott Monday sec Game of the week
Southeastern at Waverley Shank Holmes play archer here it was
Waverley's cage Alexander with eleven of the fifteen points for
the Tigers in the first quarter in a fleet Southeastern
fifteen thirteen Southeastern with the opening possession of the second quarter.
Joey Piper into the game for the Panthers. He has

(26:57):
it out top, hands it off back to Williams. Good
ball pressure there from Carroll of Waverley alex left corner
that was galling three No good, Piper fights for the
loose ball and that hustle is gonna pay off as
it looks like it was last touch by Kge Alexander.
Anything statistically jump out at you the first quarter of
their club.

Speaker 4 (27:18):
Well, like we said last game, because if you win
the rebounding game, you're probably gonna win the game. And
they both had five rebounds total team wise at the
tie ball game.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
So checks out there.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
And I don't know what Kyle Bradley has said to
this team after that first quarter, but they are coming
out of here like bats out of hell energy wise
on defense.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Good ball pressure for sure down low. That was Strall's
ball one more time and then stralls ball, lays it in.
He has eight to lead. The Panthers were tied again
at fifteen fifteen. Right side, it's Russell out top Alexander.
He drives down the middle. Wanted to dump it off
there for Myers. Now Myers does gather and puts it

(27:58):
up and in that saw your Myersky.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Center off air coach.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
Southeastern right now is not defending the pick and roll
very well. One the guy on the ball is too
far off.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
He's getting screened too easily. And the guys guy that's
screening the ball is it hedging the screen.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Then Waverley's able to go right to the paint and
shoot some layups. So they gotta start hedging that screen,
force him back that way, or at least slow them
down a little bit to be able to have their
man recovery.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Williams hits Pifer down in the right corner. Pifer drives
hard to the base line, shot too strong, knocked out
of bounce by Waverley's The Southeastern keep possession obi under
into Williams. He penetrates the middle and as he kicks
it out to the corner kind of have a foul
on the drive. So it's just gonna be a common
file there on the floor.

Speaker 5 (28:42):
Good call. It'll be Southeastern one more time.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
And they get coach six p forty one here to go.
In the second quarter. We're about a little over a
minute in right or two minutes. This Waverley team has
absolutely picked up the intensity this quarter.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
Tobie under all the way out to Burns. Burns pressured
there by Alexander. Now Williams trying to come and get it,
but Carroll does a good job of the dying.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
He's pretty much faceguarding him right now, couch.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
They understand the offense is running through Williams inside. The
Piper makes a really nice shot fake, gets the guy
in the air and then as he comes down he
goes back up. Joey Piper lays and then his first
bucket of the night. We're tied at seventeen six fifteen.
Second quarter, Waverley back on the offensive end. They swing
it right to left. Now over on the left side.

(29:31):
That's Russell to look to penetrate shot fakes from step
through move at the elbow. Nicely done landon Russell. That's
his second bucket of the night. He has four.

Speaker 5 (29:40):
Waverley back up in front nineteen seventeen.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
You know, Coach, we're just seeing two very fundamentally sound
teams going right at each other. And like you said
before the game, it's been battle to the point guards.
It's been what Layne Williams has been trying to do
and what Alexander has done for the titles.

Speaker 5 (29:59):
Williams.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Since he tries a little runner just off the front
of the rim, out comes Waverley th the rebound, the
look to push Alexander deep penetration ended up turning it over.
I thought it got a little deep good rotation from Southeastern,
and Southeastern gets the turnover, and then as they push
the ball out in the transition of their own and
we had a foul on wavelengths. So nineteen seventeen Waverley

(30:21):
five thirty one a half times both teams going a
little deeper into their bench looks like they're for Waverley.

Speaker 5 (30:27):
That gunner Myers and explain that Facebury Lady Williams.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
You can always say they're not doing it because of
his scoring, that they can't score. But whenever somebody else
has to bring the ball and be that floor general,
like they talked about in pregame, it's just a little
not as smooth there, for Southeastern.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Just disrupts the timing when you take the quarterback out
of it. They hit Straw's ball into the high post.
He wanted to go high low with Cheetle, ended up
throwing it away, so put it over back to the Tigers.
Waverley with a nineteen seventeen League five point fifteen and
counting the halftime. Alexander walks up, crosses the timeline here
he's guarded by Williams. Gives way to Sawyer Myers. Now

(31:06):
left side, it is Alexander, He'll go left side. That's
hurt cut off there on the drive by cheat Oh
now drops it.

Speaker 5 (31:13):
Into the post.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Good spin move, but pretty good job by Straws while
going straight up there on Sawyer Myers out comes Southeastern
with the with the rebound.

Speaker 5 (31:23):
Left side, it's Gowon.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
No good rebound there offensively for cheat On gives Southeastern
another possession back out Gowan. Now it's over to Fisher.
Now Dowen, I'll try another, and this one from the
right wing. This is everything and goes out of bounds
back to Waverley.

Speaker 5 (31:40):
Four thirty seven. First half. Waverley leads at nineteen seventeen kg.
Alexander walks it up for the Tigers and.

Speaker 4 (31:53):
Here comes that weird stack offense again. Coach is definitely unique,
to say the least.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
On the one on one one Williams knocks it away
from Alexander that time and out comes Williams with a
transition opportunity ice penetration until nice bowns past. It's a
guy and who lays it in. Nicely done by Lane Williams.

Speaker 4 (32:14):
I mean that was going out of bound's reach around
the defenders and put it on a dime Lane Williams.
And that's another reason why he's like Chris Paul. He
just has passes. He just don't normally see.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
Nice little set for Alexander on the other end, got
a great look for their shooter and the thing went
all the way in and came out. But on the rebound,
I think we had a foul on the Panthers. Good
hustle there by Waverley on the offensive glass is gonna
win him an extra possession. So nineteen nineteen three point
fifty seven left here in the first half, Waverley's gonna

(32:47):
have an ob under the Alexander inbound blobs it straight
up into saw your Myers and chase it right back
to the corner, and he takes it and knocks down
a three kg Alexander enjoying a big first half. That's
his first three points of the second quarter. But fourteen
here and the half. Waverley back up in front twenty
two to nineteen. Back comes Southeastern. Cheetah on the left point,

(33:10):
looks the drive cut off there by, Alexander takes it away.
Great hustle by Alexander and Cheetle. Southeastern keeps possession. Ball
finds its way down the fisher underneath, who goes up
and lays it in. Great hustled by boat teams. Southeastern
comes away with the easy two.

Speaker 4 (33:25):
You love seeing guys just dive it on the court
for loose Ball's coach, give it everything they got.

Speaker 5 (33:30):
Twenty two twenty one Waverley three sixteen.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
First half Carol uptop, saw your Myers, Oh that goes
that the Alexander bounces away. He runs it down before
he gets the half course, so Waverley keeps possession. Alexander
goes right side gunner Myers tried to get it down
to saw You're good nouth away good health defense from
Southeastern now Southeastern with possession, a chance to take a lead.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
Just a little bit force there, coaching by for Southeast
Division one area.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
Try to feed the post inside Strall's ball. His turnaround
good and again beautiful Brevin Straws ball, nice Touchdore in
the middle post. He has ten Southeastern back in front.
Twenty three twenty two. We're two thirty five until halftime.

Speaker 4 (34:14):
Coach, that mean was so good that the wild tiger
over there in the inflat wide to turn his head.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
They had some contact away from the ball here as
Waverley was running its offense. And then on the back
screen there looked like they got a little little too
much of the Panther defender and it's going to be
an illegal screen. Turn it back over to Southeastern. That
Burns returns for Southeastern.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
I think that's a thirty legal screen tonight on Waverley. Coach,
He's got to keep that. It's that bottom knee they
keep reaching out trying to get you, guys.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
Day's still in those screens.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Two twenty left in the first half, Panthers by one.
With the ball, Williams drives hard down the middle, leaves
a bounce past the Straws ball first shot was blocked,
but he got it back second shot. No good out
comes Waverley at the rebound, Alexander looks to push a
beautiful bounce by athletes, saw your buyers and time out.
Waverley there outstanding time out. Time gonna be a full

Welcome Back Herd Signed HONDEI SBC Game of the Week
ninety four Country w k k J Shane Holmes Clay
Archer that Waverley time out was a full one as
both teams returned to the floor. It's Waverley on top
of Southeastern twenty four to twenty three off of an
outstanding bounce pass from Kge Alexander to Sawyer Myers for

(36:36):
for the layup. So with two o five remaining, Southeastern
is going to have possession. As we return to action,
it's going to be Williams walking it up two three zone.

Speaker 4 (36:45):
It looks like for Waverley, if you're you're Southeastern, they
stay in the zone. Guy, you exactly did the last
time against the other one.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
Get it in the middle. That's the number one way
to kill zone.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
Nippered into the game for Waverley. Southeastern goes left corner.
There was Williams for three. No good outcomes Niver with
the rebound. He'll look to push Soo's a die Eigen
onto the right corner to Hurt. Hurt drives hard to
the left hand of the middle, shot up and good,
good floor spacing and transition from the Tigers.

Speaker 5 (37:13):
Great mooved from teguing Hurt.

Speaker 4 (37:15):
And they're getting the ball and just absolutely pushing a coach.
That's the best way gets scored. Don't even let the
defense set up.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Twenty six twenty three Waverley one twenty seven, first half
again against the two three zone. It's strawsball top of
the key, no good. Fisher had it momentarily knocked away.
Out Comes Waverley with another transition opportunity, but at this
time never to hold it up and give it back
to Alexander.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
Kay Carroll just being absolutely everywhere for this Waverley Tiger's
team right now.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Carol has it up top, gives it right side to Hurt.
He's trapped there by two panthers. Fisher and Burns gets
it back up top. So with one minute to go,
I don't think Waverley would hold for one for this long.

Speaker 5 (37:53):
This time the bass.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
Tipped it well, I'll take that by well now I
think he's gonna get some help.

Speaker 5 (37:58):
It was tip. That's good. That's good officiating.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
They are good veteran crew tonight offishal here on the
near side just thought it was a direct pass out
of bounds. Good help from the other side on the tip.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
I agree with you, the better officiating.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
He caused the right call here what he saw and
then you have the official on the other side say
a sol did talk it out and get to.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
The right call going.

Speaker 2 (38:15):
So Waverley'll keep possession with a three point leading in
the basketball hurt thought about a three drives bar. Then
Straws ball goes straight up and gets the block shot.
So at twenty six twenty three Waverley, now Southeastern is
gonna get a chance with forty three seconds to go
to cut into this lead a little bit little screen
and roll with Williams and Fisher.

Speaker 5 (38:34):
Fisher'll try and elbow jumper. No good.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
And now with the twenty six to twenty three lead,
Coach Bradley asking his Waverley Tigers to get the final shot.

Speaker 5 (38:42):
Of the half.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
Let's see if they can execute time and score here
twenty seven twenty six and counting on the clock, and it.

Speaker 4 (38:48):
Looks like Southeastern has done a two one two zone.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
I want to stay coach.

Speaker 5 (38:53):
Yeah, a lot of that, not two one two two three.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
Look where they put Straws ball in the middle, Straws
ball walking up there a little bit. The match up
there in the high post with Myers. So the clock
now at ten, all back out top Myers. Now they
lose Alexander all the way to the corner and he
knocks it down. Great execution of time and score by Waverley,
and that's how the half is going to end.

Speaker 5 (39:14):
Cage.

Speaker 2 (39:14):

Welcome back, Martin sign Hondi SBC Game of the Week
on ninety four Country WKKJ. I'm Shanne Holmes alongside Clay
Archer entertaining first half here as Waiverley Elite Southeastern twenty
nine twenty three. Uh, Clay, take a look at the
stat sheet there? What jumps out at you from first half?
Apply quick, coach.

Speaker 4 (43:00):
That was such a good dancer team there that always
looked professional. This Waveley dance career. I thought I was
at an NBA game. How amazing that was. But getting
back to the game here, one thing that pops out
to me again, we'll go back to it rebounds. Waverley
they have twelve, Southeastern they have nine. Waveley's winning. So again,
if you're winning the rebound game, you're probably gonna win

(43:22):
the game. When it comes to assist Waveley has seven
and Southeastern is five.

Speaker 3 (43:28):
The thing that's.

Speaker 4 (43:28):
Actually jumping out of me right now, coach, is that
Southeastern actually has five steals compared.

Speaker 3 (43:36):
I'll have dried down here, but Waverley only has two steals.

Speaker 4 (43:39):
Now they have some turnovers and stuff like that, sorry,
some rebounds that they're pushing it out there. It's surprising
to me to see that Southeastern has cost so many
turnovers and still trailing here. But I feel like the
real key here is something that you're not here to
say just because you can't stay it on the radio.

Speaker 3 (43:55):
You just see it.

Speaker 4 (43:56):
The way Keith Carroll has just completely eliminated Lane Williams
offensively in this game is I feel a huge reason
why Waveley.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
Has the lead that they do now.

Speaker 2 (44:06):
Well, I think you highlighted it well when you say eliminated.
A lot of it is you know, Lane's had some
success when he's had the ball. What you're referring to
is he's limiting his touches, you know, so he's not
able to get Southeastern into some of their sets.

Speaker 5 (44:19):
You know, you make a neat given an eat stat there.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
On the steels, a lot of Southeastern steels have come
with some deflections, some knockaways, but it hasn't really led
to transition opportunities. Therefore, Waverley has been pretty good off
of the light ball turnoorders to get back into their
transition defense. So I think your spot on there. Statistically,
if you go to the scoring, the story has been
the freshman point guard Cage Alexander. He had eleven in

(44:44):
the first quarter, two more three balls there in the
second quarter, so he sits here at halftime is seventeen points.
Seventeen of the twenty nine points comes from Cage Alexander,
Sawyer Myers is added six, Landon Russell is added four,
and t Can Hurt has scored two to equal the
Tigers twenty nine and Coach Bradley's got to be thrilled

(45:06):
to death with twenty nine points here at halftime as
Waverley comes in only averaging forty four game throughout the year.
If we go over to the Southeastern side, you and
I both were impressed with Previn strawsball. Strawsball was six
in the first quarter, four more in the second quarter,
so he gets in. He's the only Panther in double figures.
He has ten of their twenty three points. Gage Cheatle

(45:27):
has five. He had all of those in the first quarter,
both of those off of high low or inside out
looks from the Straws ball, and then Pifer with two,
Gwan with two, and then Carter Fisher with four to
equal to twenty three for Southeastern. Again, Southeastern comes in
right around fifty one a game. So again the twenty

(45:47):
three not you know, way below, but certainly below what
they're used to scoring in the half, and those little
subtle differences have us at a six point of Waverley advantage.
So I guess I would ask you you hear the numbers.
You've watched the first half there, obviously anybody's game still
just a six point give us some halftime adjustments here.

Speaker 3 (46:08):
So one thing, and we saw literally the last play
of the game, is that. Yet I love the.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
Aggressive defense by Southeastern, but you got to understand when
you're playing aggressive and when you're kind of just playing dumb.
At the very end there, they were so aggressive on
one side of the ball that when it got reversed
so quickly, they weren't talking, got caught up in and
screens there and I let to the wide open three there.
You've also seen a few where they're trying to get
a steal when they could probably kind of sit there

(46:37):
and they're over extending. It's leading to more layups. But
what they're not doing is there, I'll say it again,
they're not hedging. The pick and roll game has been
tearing Southeastern up right now. They got to get out
and they've got to heads that screen and force their
man back to the other way. Now, I'm saying a
lot of negative things, but they have had a great
I feel like, defensive first half here.

Speaker 3 (46:56):
They've got those two things right there. When it comes
to when I feel like they're.

Speaker 4 (47:01):
Doing a good job on offense creating stuff, but they're
being a little bit too digressive. I said, we saw
a couple of times there's four Southeastern defenders on the
post guy and they just get like a one track line.
They try and force it down in there, and that's
why they've been coming up with so many steals. If
I'm Southeastern, I'm trying to get Lane not more looks
per se, but maybe cleaner looks, yes, because like you said,

(47:24):
when he's getting the ball, he's fighting for his life.

Speaker 3 (47:27):
Just mean, I mean, we saw him make a great assist.
They took everything in him just to get the ball
to his team meet.

Speaker 4 (47:31):
So if I'm the coach of Southeastern here right now,
I'm trying to find a way to get Laane a
little bit more smooth touches a little bit more in
the field.

Speaker 2 (47:39):
The game kind of touched on what if you're spot
on in your analysis what you're referring to Southeastern gambling
a little bit in the scrimmage area. They just got
to clean up some of their ballscreen defense. Certainly the
efforts there. Same way on the other end, Waverley, you're
you're You're exactly right. Their ability to take the ball
to William's hands and so forth has certainly disrupted their timing.
While we're coming up under two minutes here and they
have of Shane Holten's player, we'll step aside one more time,

(48:01):
then we'll be back to bring you third quarter action and.

outstanding Waverley Downtown's Gymnasium. Both teams are walking back out
onto the floor. Appreciate you listening to us there on radio,
or of course you can get us iHeart Radio worldwide.

(49:39):
Appreciate you being with us. We think we're in for
a really good second half here as Waverley leads at
twenty nine to twenty three, and Waverley will possess the
basketball to get us started here in the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (49:49):
We also have legenday Trey Robertson in the house tonight.

Speaker 4 (49:53):
If you forget the two thousand, seventy two points you had,
which is ridiculous, he is here watching it.

Speaker 3 (49:58):
I so even more pressure.

Speaker 5 (49:59):
Releas get Waverley with the possession.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
They'll run it out as they started it with Myers,
Myers and Russell Hurt and Alexander. Southeastern with Williams, Burns, Fisher,
Cheetle and strawsball Russell ailt top gives way to Hurt.
Hurt high post into Sawyer Brown. Now he'll he'll hit
diagonal across court there to Alexander.

Speaker 5 (50:23):
Had a great look at three, but no goods.

Speaker 2 (50:24):
Southeastern kind of dodges a bullet there and they reb
on it and bring it out left side at Burns
he'll drive hard to the right hand of the middle,
goes in the corner to Fisher, he drives hard place throught.
Now they're gonna call it the charge At first I
thought it was going to be a play on, but
the baseline official felt like Gunner Myers had position, they're
gonna get Carter Fisher for the charge and we're gonna

(50:46):
go the other wide.

Speaker 4 (50:47):
I think they give the charge their coach because it
looked like Fisher might have did the elbow a little
too much.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
Then when you had to make his.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
Move, I agree with you. I think they were gonna
let the contact itself at first was not much. I
think they were gonna pluy on through the through the
attempt to draw the file. But when the arm extended
a little bit, I agree with you now. And now
I think they have the wrong person on the board.
That was Carter Fisher. That was Carter Fisher that went

(51:17):
to the baseline there and up on the board. Now,
I think they're gonna get it, get it fixed here,
I think. And they're drying up the wet spot from
the charge down on the baseline.

Speaker 3 (51:26):
There coming out, we have some Carol coming in.

Speaker 4 (51:32):
He was the one that was garden Lane when towards
the end of that first half there him not being
in the start. It's fun to watch the Alexander Williams
matchup point guard versus point guard.

Speaker 2 (51:43):
Here, they're gonna go over to the scores table. They're
trying to get the number right. The offensive file was
on there. They got it the Carter Fisher that'll be
his first which and again that's good officiating, the correct
that because the cheetle was in a little bit of
foul trouble. The last thing the Panthers want to do
is lose him to the bench. All sorted out, twenty
nine to twenty three Waverley. Thirty seconds into the second half,

(52:05):
Alexander walks it up for the Tigers. He comes across
the timeline. He'll be guarded by Williams. He'll go high
post entry into Sawyer Myers. He'll turn and go one
on one against Stralls. Ball backs him all the way down.
Pretty good job by Stralls. Ball forces the ball back
out Alexander. Alexander thought about a three goes right side.
Now it's Russell. Russell wanted Myers inside. Pretty good denial there,

(52:28):
good patients from the Tigers's heard on the left side.
He'll drive hard to the rim, blocked by Brown's out
of bund Really athletic play there from the sophomore Braydon
Burns at six ' to two high points. Itne block,
shot goes out of bounds.

Speaker 5 (52:40):
Waverley'll keep it.

Speaker 4 (52:42):
Just what Kyle Bradley thought he's away from this hardcore
SBC defense. Here he is again going up against the
hardcore Southeastern defensive.

Speaker 2 (52:49):
Panthers inside to Myers. Alexander Chase that got it back
and then gives it right back to Myers. Good little
two man game there. Thirty one, thirty three. Waverley with
its biggest lead of the evening.

Speaker 3 (53:00):
Now Southeast, you needs to do something here because they
don't want to get this.

Speaker 4 (53:03):
Waverley's seen too much confidence get out of hand. That's
Williams turns it over there.

Speaker 2 (53:06):
They throw it away, trying to get these from Alexander
behind the back, but again burns with the with the
Chase down block. Southeastern is gonna come out with a
great effort there. Why save Southeastern two points by come
the Panthers. Williams will bring it up into the scrimmage area,
tries to enter it to Strawsbourne again to help defense
from Waverley calls the turnover.

Speaker 5 (53:26):
They have numbers. It's two on one Mayers all the
way to the rim and he's going to have a foul.

Speaker 2 (53:31):
Looks like Burns begin on back to back possessions, Southeastern
trying to throw the post feed and help coming from
all different angles in Waverley back to back turnovers. The
first one, Clay, we had the great chase down block
from Burns, but this time it's going to be Burns
on the file and Myers is gonna go to the line.

Speaker 5 (53:49):
Shoot too well.

Speaker 4 (53:50):
I'm seeing that with this coach too, is that they're
trying to get that entry pass to the high post.

Speaker 3 (53:55):
But when you're throwing to your big.

Speaker 4 (53:56):
Man and he's having to reach down by his ankles
or anywhere under his knee and just too much too
much space for him to have to cover and get
down and get that, it's hitting off their leg and
then that's when Waverley's coming up.

Speaker 3 (54:07):
So Southeastern just need to get a little bit better
entry pass here for themselves.

Speaker 2 (54:11):
Gunner Myer's on both free throws no good. I think
that's only the third and fourth free throw for Waverley.
I don't think Southeastern shot a free throw at this point.
Thirty one twenty three Waverley Panther's high possession Burns a
top cheetle cheetle penetrates, kicks it into the corner.

Speaker 5 (54:29):
It's Fisher. He drives hard to the rim and this
time draws the contact.

Speaker 2 (54:34):
The SHOT's gonna go and you're gonna draw the file
for the n one opportunity old Fish and three opportunity
for Carter Fisher.

Speaker 4 (54:41):
And this is what you need right now if you
are Southeastern, you just get through the line. Give eb
a deep breast here, get some points on the board,
and start.

Speaker 3 (54:49):
Weathering this storm.

Speaker 2 (54:51):
How to bide helps side on the slide in there
probably came in a little deep underneath the Carter and
Carter good contract, good concentrate, I should see as he
draws the contact, keep the chin up on the rim
and finish free throw also good. So Southeastern's first free
throw of the night is a successful one thirty one
twenty six Southeastern. Now within five they're going to extend

(55:13):
the pressure out a little bit.

Speaker 3 (55:15):
Let's say today a one three one three quarter court here.

Speaker 2 (55:17):
Coach, they'll trap out there doing they'll get the turnovers.
Burns comes out with the steel, so Southeastern wins another possession.
Williams has it here into the scrimmage area. He's gonna
look the drive hard one on one right side. It's cheetle,
now Cheatle, left hand dribble, pull up mid range jumper.
No good, not a bad look, but out comes Waverley's

(55:38):
Rustle with the rebound. Alexander will look the push. Waverley
by five five twenty six.

Speaker 5 (55:42):
Third quarter.

Speaker 2 (55:43):
Alexander gets gets the call from the bench, backs it
back out, now hands it to Rustle. He excuse me,
that's my eers.

Speaker 4 (55:52):
It looks like Sethe's went back to that to their man.
De man say what a quick one three one? Then
right back to man.

Speaker 2 (55:58):
There's that matchup of William versus Alexander does a pretty
good job of keeping him out of the middle.

Speaker 3 (56:04):
Fans want to travel that catch. I don't know if
they're too I don't know if they're right about that one.

Speaker 2 (56:08):
Alexander left hand dribble, pull up jumper in the corner.
Strasball had the inside position, but he couldn't secure the rebound.
He's gonna knock it out of bounds, so Waverley's gonna
keep it. As Carol that enters the game for the
first time here in the third quarter, it's gonna be
Waverley basketball on the obi under. We're four fifty five
third quarter, Waverley by five again and found the Myers

(56:30):
same action right back to Alexander and White change it
if they don't have an answer.

Speaker 5 (56:34):
Alexander gets a nice look. Are they given three there?

Speaker 3 (56:37):
Yes, yes they did so.

Speaker 2 (56:39):
Three ball thirty four to twenty six. Alexander now with
twenty on the evening.

Speaker 3 (56:44):
Myers has two assists and they're on the same play.

Speaker 2 (56:48):
Burns going one on one against Russell, drops the bounce
pass download to Cheatle and he lays it in Gates Cheadle.
Nice job working without the ball. Nice job by Burns,
the finding thirty four to twenty eight. Carol has it
down low against Cheetle. He goes up strong. No good
rebound comes out. Williams of Southeastern gathers it Southeastern down six.

Speaker 4 (57:09):
First defensive rebound there for Williams. That's kind of surprising
for him.

Speaker 2 (57:14):
Burn Or if Cheetle tries a left side three, no
good good rebound there from Carold, Waverley and Alexandra walk
it up.

Speaker 5 (57:22):
We come up on the four minute mark of the
third quarter.

Speaker 2 (57:25):
The Tigers lead the Panthers by six thirty four to
twenty eight, and we've got we've got action away from
the ball. You mentioned that in the first half play
it's been very physical on some of the screen game.

Speaker 4 (57:35):
Yeah, and that one, you know, Burns whenever his defense,
whenever his man got the ball. He did a quick
jab that was close to getting a fount and I
think that's the guy away over.

Speaker 3 (57:45):
He kind of stayed with him. The official come his
eye on there.

Speaker 4 (57:48):
And and like you said, Guz just made a physical game,
and you get this laid into it.

Speaker 3 (57:52):
It's close, you know, you get those emotions.

Speaker 2 (57:54):
Flying Obie under and just wide open comes Myers. But
again block shot. Southeastern comes out with it. Williams looks
to push cross silver dribble, gets all the way to
the rim, lay up, no good fight for the loose
ball and the rebound foul and I think we're going
to have.

Speaker 3 (58:10):
A foul on Fisher.

Speaker 5 (58:14):
Looks like it's going to go against He was not
he was not ready for that.

Speaker 2 (58:18):
I'm going to go against Southeastern's Carter Fish or so again,
Southeastern had a golden opportunity and transition to cut into
this six point Waverley League. Unable to score and get
the file to go with us. So back come the
Tigers Alexander walks it up again thirty four to twenty eight,
three thirty five play third quarter, Russell top Carol right side.

Speaker 5 (58:43):
It's Hurt.

Speaker 2 (58:44):
Alexander comes off a double scream. Nice job of Williams
to fight through it all to meet him there off
the top, not to give him the shot. Hurt has
it on the right side.

Speaker 4 (58:54):
A lot of screen action here for Waverley, not on
the ball, off the ball, I mean, I think they're
saying two screens at one time and pretty much everybody
getting open coming off of a screen, trying to exploit
that that screen defense that Southeast was playing right now.

Speaker 2 (59:08):
Good calling again away from the ball, had a little
bit of action there. Saw your Myers look to go
one on one. So the file's racking up three fifteen
to go third quarter, and that's Southeastern's fifteen fouls. So
Sawyer Myers is going to go to the free throw line.
He has eight points on the evening. This is his
first trip to the free throw line.

Speaker 4 (59:29):
And again, coach, remember everything's double bonus now, so for
the rest of this quarter, they're any foul, they're going
to the line shooting too. A good thing for Southeastern, though,
is a resets after the quarter.

Speaker 2 (59:42):
Meyer's first free throw is good thirty five twenty eight.
He'll get another. Both teams with some substitutions coming in there.
Looks like hyper end of the game for Southeastern.

Speaker 5 (59:54):
Has this guy one.

Speaker 2 (59:56):
Second free throw good ten, The lead is up to
eight thirty six twenty eight. Williams brings it up against Caroll.

Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
Let's say Waverley back in that zone.

Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
Download of Piper back out top Williams. He swings it
left side. Burns will try a three, got it and
that's needed. Braiden Burns his first basket of the night
as a triple thirty six thirty one, Waverley on top.

Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
I'd love to see Braden Burns just kind of taking
troll and start taking over this game because he definitely
has the ability to do it. For the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
The double stack there at the elbow that we talked
about in the first half, and they'll just look to
play a little game off the ball screen action there
and then curl up through on some elevator action and
very successful in the first half of getting some looks here.
Southeastern again very physical on some of the action. Gotta
be careful as Waverley's into the double bonus.

Speaker 4 (01:00:47):
As I'm watching this off us for literally the first
time in my life, I'm understanding it because they're getting
a lot of switch from the big guys man to
the guard and a good one on one matchup as
a steal.

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
By Williams Alexander hard to drive. Williams takes it away.
Back comes Southeastern with a chance to cut into the
five point league. It's Fisher or Gowing on the left side,
back out to Williams. Two minutes remaining third quarter. Williams
goes left side, Gowing goes down low. It's Brown who's

(01:01:18):
into the game. Now for Southeastern, back out top.

Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
It's Burned.

Speaker 4 (01:01:23):
I like the inserting of Brown here because Myers they're
just trying to match him height for height.

Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
Here Williams has it back up top. Very patient possession
here for the Panthers. Good defense from Waverley. Now Williams
will reset him, he'll go left side, Barnes will try
a three one more time.

Speaker 5 (01:01:39):
Great look at it.

Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
No good Piper fighting for the rebound, and I think
we got a Waverley file. Joey Piper giving good minutes
there with outstanding effort on the offensive glass.

Speaker 4 (01:01:48):
And this how you know that this Panthers team is
just a veteran team, because not only you can see
that the cliff, you.

Speaker 3 (01:01:53):
Can tell the players understand that this is a possession
that they have to come away with points. They have
to cut the still one possession game.

Speaker 4 (01:02:01):
Any kind of layup here or a three cuts into
that one possession late in the third, and that's the
momentum you need going into the fourth.

Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
And like you said, Couch, beautiful, look there by, Burns
just didn't go in.

Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
All the way out top. It's Burns off the out
of bounds play back down the piper who tried left
baseline cut off there by Carroll. Now it's Williams against Hurt.
They drop it into the post. It's Brown on the
post move shot blocked by Myers. Williams chases it down
and throws it off the Waverley. I think he threw
it off of Hurt there to keep Southeastern possession all

(01:02:33):
the way down the one sixteen now third quarter, thirty
six thirty one Waverley.

Speaker 5 (01:02:40):
In bound.

Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
It's Williams of Southeastern. He'll penetrate into the middle, go
right side Burns, Burns guarding hard there by Diver, and
Niver's gonna be called for the handcheck on the drive.
So Waverley just their thirteen file so with one O
eight still just Southeastern on the side.

Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
Coach from Southeastern right now, it looks like Burn has
a mismat for size.

Speaker 3 (01:03:01):
I'm learning something to get him the ball down on
the block and kind of just let him go one
on one with his man here.

Speaker 5 (01:03:08):
Pifer.

Speaker 2 (01:03:09):

the time out, trailing by five, Williams have it over
on the right side, back out to burn.

Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Can't Carroll smothering Williams right.

Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
Now, Burns handling against Nebert Burns gets all the way
into the middle, gets it up off the glass right.

Speaker 5 (01:04:51):
Nicely done.

Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
Brydon Burns with all five of his points here in
the third quarter, and all of a sudden, the Waverley
lead is just three at thirty six thirty three. Talking
about a half core three quarter court press here, Coach
Nimbers pass deflected there by Pifer. Now Hurt finds it
in the left corner. His three ball, no good, fight.

Speaker 5 (01:05:08):
For the loose ball. Great hustle from Carroll.

Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
He's made several hustle plays a night, and now I
think Coach Bradley is begging his Tigers to take the
final shot of.

Speaker 5 (01:05:17):
The third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
So at thirty six thirty three, it will be Southeastern
possession as of now in the possession era when.

Speaker 5 (01:05:24):
We start the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:05:25):
So this is a big stop here for Southeastern if
they can get it twelve seconds to shoot Nimber down
top rebbles. Now they're going to swing it all the
way back around. They're going to try to run Hurt
into the corner. Pretty good defense there from Southeastern forces
a three, no good, and Southeastern does get the defensive
stock We've played three here in Waiverley. The Tigers lead

at thirty six, thirty three. This is sure to be
a great finish to make sure you stay with us

Waverley up three. Southeastern Williams drives hard down the middle
and draws contact AND's gonna go to the line. That's
some of the deepest penetration we've seen Williams have play

(01:07:22):
since the early first quarters.

Speaker 4 (01:07:24):
Yeah, he makes a great move there. He does a
great job of just making one move and go. He
doesn't make a move and then sit there and try
to make it a few more. He does a crossover

Speaker 4 (01:07:37):
If you're a young point guard out there and you're
here at the game for some reason to listen to us,
you need to be watching the way Lane Williams and
mister Alexander Fort Waverley play the game because they play
exactly the way a point guard needs to be playing
the game.

Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
Coach Williams first point of the night on the first
free Throsy Knoxie down. He'll get a second one, trying
to cut the lead to one here just ten seconds
into the fourth quarter, and he's got it.

Speaker 5 (01:08:03):
Both free throw is good. Thirty six thirty five.

Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
Southeastern continues to pick up a little bit three quarter
court trap there, just shy of half court.

Speaker 5 (01:08:13):
Now across the timeline, it's Alexander. It's got it.

Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
He crosses over in the middle froms back to his
left hand and lays it in. Nicely done.

Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
Hey, he was tigning up for Team USA Chymnastics on
that laup coach.

Speaker 2 (01:08:24):
Hege Alexander A nice nifty move there in a tough
finish puts Waverley back up three thirty eight thirty five
right side. It's gowing up top. We're going to try
to hand it off the Burns. Good denial there from Alexander.
Now Williams has and Williams gets into the middle again,
playing through all sorts of contact.

Speaker 5 (01:08:42):
No call. Now it's going to be a jump ball,
and with Southeastern having that first.

Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
Possession of the fourth quarter, the arrow is gonna favor
the Tigers and Waverley's gonna get it back.

Speaker 4 (01:08:53):
It looks like, too the Waverley has shifted their defensive
focus to Burns, which it kind of makes sense. You've
had Williams out of track all game. Now burned seat
up and see if you can't cool hit him down.
It's gonna be hard for Williams the fourth quarter to
get into a rhythm. But I'll tell you none possible.

Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
Three quarter court trap deflection for the Panthers, knocks it
out of bounds. Waverley'll have it on the side, out
of bounds, goes into the back court here to Alexander
looks over to coach Bradley for the call. It's like
Southeastern's in that zone with the two one two look
two three looks. It's right or excuse me, left side
hurt back out top, gonna be rustled.

Speaker 3 (01:09:33):
Doesn't look like Waverley's in any hurry to score here.

Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
Coach trying to get it into the high post area there,
and then they just force it in there. Southeastern takes
it away. Southeastern comes out with a chance to get
even here with a three ball. Cheetah will try just
that three ball. No good scramble for the loose ball
and again dread hustle from scrawls ball. But in doing so,
I think you just got too much of the leg

(01:09:57):
of Myers and it's going to be a loose ball foul.

Speaker 3 (01:10:00):
Gus.

Speaker 4 (01:10:00):
You can't first because we're within whenever Myners, what you
gonna take the step in trip, that's what initiates the
foul call there.

Speaker 3 (01:10:07):
But you gotta love, you gotta love a.

Speaker 4 (01:10:09):
Hustle and heart yet from Southeastern, an from Waverley, and
I mean both teams are literally diving and putting it all.

Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
Out on the floor.

Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
Six thirty left of the ball game. Waverley leads at
thirty eight to thirty five. It's Myers out top left side.
It's hurt, hurt, although penetration back out Alexander and as
Klay said, Waverley not in a big hurry, but as
a result they've started to throw it away a little bit.
Burns comes out with a still great shot fake gets
two tigers in the air and Braydon Burns lays it

(01:10:36):
in and just like that, Southeastern back within one again
thirty eight thirty seven.

Speaker 4 (01:10:41):
You want to make sure if you're Waverley here, yeah,
you have the lead, but if you start getting to
the whole vault mode too early, it's gonna be hard
to keep that rhythm.

Speaker 5 (01:10:48):
Weate in the game.

Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
As they get a big bucket there.

Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Well, Myers used this size and just throws it over
top of the trap of long diagonal to Rustle and
we'll keep it here this time, just to try to
reset that, you know, Land and Russell kind of gets
behind that that big zone trap and and Myers listed
water here six ' four. Yeah, he just used this size,
throws it right over the top diagonal for the layout,

(01:11:11):
and cause.

Speaker 4 (01:11:12):
I liked what Southeast and Day they put Brown in
there for a minute, give it some uh, give it
break to Fisher.

Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
Kind of go hight for heightening with Myers. Now you
got your what they're trying to do.

Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
If you're gonna stand out three quarter court, you want
to make sure you have athletic dudes everywhere, because only
down three, they're flying around trying to get a steal,
almost like they're down ten, which nine times out of ten,
I'm not a fan of it. Right now, I'm loving
it because Waverley has gone into like we said, hold
the ball mode.

Speaker 3 (01:11:40):
Well, there's still six minutes out of this game. They're
only up three.

Speaker 4 (01:11:43):
If if I'm Waverley, I'm like, hey, work for a
good shot. Don't just hold the ball. You want to
work for a lamb or open three or open mid range.

Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Well, Southeastern extending out that three quarter, and it just
kind of had him as you said in the middle.
I thought that last time was one of Waverley's most
organized the opportunities where they got everybody into the correct
spots and Russell was able to sneak behind the defense.
And again when six ' four is throwing it the
six ' five, they're able to play right over top of.

Speaker 5 (01:12:11):
The defense and lay it in.

Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
So forty thirty seven Waverley leads it. As the teams
break the huddle, it's five point fifty nine left in
the game. Southeastern's been within one a couple different times,
haven't led since much much earlier in the ball game,
as Williams walks it up, Southeastern needs a three ball
to get even.

Speaker 3 (01:12:31):
Back to the zone.

Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
Here from Waverley, it looks like a one to two
to two extended. They get in the Cheetah in the middle.
He drops a bounce pass into Fisher and icily done
Carter Fisher finishes.

Speaker 4 (01:12:42):
Now, coach, I'm not a huge fan of waving good
to that zone because that's about the one thing that
Southeast had the most success with tonight here is the
defeating the zone.

Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
Myers has a left side hurt in the corner, tries
to get it back out Alexander denied there by Williams. Now,
Alexander does have it all the way out, it's just
shy of half court. Forty thirty nine. Waverley leads at
five to eighteen in County Meyer, excuse me, Alexander into
the middle down load of Myers, you know, and all
kinds of traffic, and it looks like Fisher strips it away.

Speaker 5 (01:13:14):
Out comes Williams of Southeastern.

Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
He gets it all the way to the rim, and
I think we're going to have a foul off the
dribble here right in front of us. So just the
second team foul going to be a Southeastern side out
of bounds, and they're going to have an opportunity to
take their first lead in quite some time. Here as
they trail forty thirty nine with five oh four remaining
in the ballgame.

Speaker 4 (01:13:36):
Coach Waverley's acting like that boss Covid Army. They don't
want any part of it. They've turned over so much
here in this last quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
Williams has it out top guarded by Carroll. Williams goes
little hand off there to cheatle Now he'll look to
go one on one guarded by Russell back.

Speaker 3 (01:13:52):
To face guarding Williams.

Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
Here tried to get Williams back door, ball bounces away,
Fisher comes up with his shots. No good out comes
Waverley with the rebound. Alexander looked to push behind the
back dribble. Now steadies it up. Eyeballs over to the bench.
See what coach Bradley has in mind, and they got
him into the set. It's Russell out top. Now it's

(01:14:14):
left side. Heard he thought about a three. Now it's
got a high post to myers. How Alexander has it
over on the right side. And as this shot fake
on the step through was tripped up a little bit
and we're gonna have a foul.

Speaker 5 (01:14:25):
I believe those buns.

Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Yeah, look back what Burns did there?

Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
He spaces a good defense, got beat and try to
poke the ball out from behind. And you know, it's
awesome when it works, but most of the time they're
going to get too much body on that. That was
the name Blastman the past. Coach Trevor Medley was an
absolute clinic. I'm doing that reach around Steele.

Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
Hen bend to Alexander. Now it goes right side. It's
hurt back out Caroll. They're going to swing it all
the way around where they ran Alexander to the opposite corner.
How he skips it clear over to the other corner
to hurt three ball. No good, pretty good inside position
from Southeastern, all kinds of contact, but Southeastern nonetheless comes.

Speaker 5 (01:15:08):
Away with it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
Forty thirty nine Waverley. We just went under the four
minute mark in the game. Williams brings it across the timeline.

Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
I'm running my best set here, Coach, to get me
his best shot.

Speaker 5 (01:15:18):
I can Burns left corner, three ball.

Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
He died that bread.

Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
Burns nice scream, comes out, gets the feat set there
in the corner, knocks it down.

Speaker 5 (01:15:28):
Forty two to forty.

Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
Southeastern back in front, three thirty seven to play in.
Southeastern extends out and they take it away.

Speaker 5 (01:15:35):
It's Burns with the steel.

Speaker 2 (01:15:38):
Now forty two to forty Southeastern, A chance to play
with the lead and the ball for a twenty five
in County.

Speaker 4 (01:15:43):
You love to see the sophomore Burns just taking over
the game.

Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
Coach Williams drives hard down the middle. He finds Cheetah
left corner. He tries a three, no good. Out comes
Carol with the basketball. And he just sprints into ind
and lays the man that was athletic.

Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
Take Carroll man, it's not afraid to step up and
do it all.

Speaker 4 (01:16:03):
Slapping the floor, bringing the energy in this place is
kind of just starting a rock.

Speaker 3 (01:16:08):
As we're tied of forty two or.

Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
Three to go, I come Southeast from two fifty seven.
Hand off the cheetle. It looks like we're gonna have
a full time out for Southeast. You're not a bad idea,
coach Aley two fifty one, tied at forty two, full
time out.

Speaker 5 (01:16:25):
We'll take it with them.

Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
You're listening to her and signed Hundai SCC Game of

Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
Welcome back, Hernsi Honde, SBC Game of the Week ninety four, Country,
WKKJ and worldwide on the iHeart Radio. Shane Colmes, Clay
Archer sitting court side and boy, has it been a
pleasure this evening to bring you this one. Waverley and
Southeastern tied forty two, forty two, and coach Ally decides
to use a time out there, wants to make sure

(01:17:28):
everybody's on the same page. With two point fifty one
to play, as they come out of the huddle, they'll
have the basketball club.

Speaker 3 (01:17:34):
I think that time out too.

Speaker 4 (01:17:35):
Coach was also more of to get this crowd to
calm down because it was really starting to come alive
here and with two point fifty one to go, you
just can't have any mistakes right nowt here Southeastern.

Speaker 2 (01:17:47):
And Belda Williams. He's guarded by Carroll looks like Burns
and Cheatah are gonna swing action. Now it's Cheatah over
on the right side with the ball. He'll drive hard
to the baseline and he's gonna be pet off there.
But Russell one able to get his foot all the
way to the baseline's gonna be called for the block.
So that's gonna be team foul number three for the Tigers.

(01:18:08):
And with two thirty seven Southeastern of an ob underneath.

Speaker 3 (01:18:13):
I should care, said the heaps, don't like coach.

Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
Looks like Burns off a little triple screen there now.
Now it's gonna be strallsball just to get it in.

Speaker 5 (01:18:21):
Gives way to Williams in a little lay from Carol.
Great reed, and we're gonna have a charge and going
the other way. So Lane Williams.

Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
Is a back door strawsball hitting Southeastern fans behind us
felt like the guy was uh just maybe too deep,
too far underneath him. Nonetheless, if you don't get a boat, Coach.

Speaker 4 (01:18:41):
I think that was as fifty fifty as he could
have caught a block or a charge. I would have
agreed with both, to be completely honest with you, they
was as bang bang as the play as.

Speaker 5 (01:18:51):
You can get forty two, forty two to twenty five
to play in the game.

Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
Alexander across the timeline and he's gonna get bumped there
by strallsball team foul number four. So for the final,
not this time, but for the final two twenty two.
Every Southeastern foul from this point forward is going to
put the Tigers on the line for ship four.

Speaker 3 (01:19:11):
To two, not just one to one. Four to two.
That's a big thing.

Speaker 5 (01:19:15):
Now, Myers inbound.

Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Alexander gives way to Hurt, skips it clear across and
he throws it into the Waverly betch.

Speaker 3 (01:19:23):
Waverley is just now being able to hang right to
the ball here in this fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
Coach, well, you see a little bit of the youth there,
maybe a little bit so talented, so athletic. It's a
little time sometimes he's got to be able to control
the nerves there that time, just a little lamped up,
just just not a bad pass, just.

Speaker 5 (01:19:41):
Threw it through it with too much on it there.

Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
Philadephy smooth as fast as fast.

Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
As smooth, forty two forty two, coming up on the
two minute mark, Fisher gets it down on the block
back outside. Cheetle gives way to Straws ball. Straws ball
right side Fisher. He goes more to the baseline, loses
his footing though, and as Burns fights for the loose ball,
I think he knocked it out of bounce and it's

(01:20:07):
gonna go over to Waverly.

Speaker 4 (01:20:10):
Coach, the football player in me is loving this. Absolutely
grind it out and beat each other up down low.

Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
Battle here with Fisher had an outstanding move, great opportunity
to simply lost his foot absolutely.

Speaker 4 (01:20:21):
And then you had I mean, you had both teams
just banging, trying, and I'm saying, like respectable within the game,
just playing hard.

Speaker 3 (01:20:28):
Nobody wanted to lose this game. I mean, this is
high school basketball at its finus.

Speaker 5 (01:20:32):
Forty two forty two, one forty two to play. Waverley's
got it here.

Speaker 2 (01:20:37):
As Southeastern continues to stretch out on their zone left side,
it's Hurt.

Speaker 5 (01:20:41):
Hurt skips it across s court.

Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
It's Alexander good recovery, becuse hard to the middle, tries
to leave a bounce pass. Southeastern swarms it in the
middle and comes up with a turnover. The zone does
such a good job of swarming in the middle, and
a lot of active hands and Williams comes out with it.
So one twenty left in the game, Williams walks it
across the timeline out. Southeastern's turned to play in front.

Speaker 5 (01:21:02):
As Williams fifth steel, the night strallsball.

Speaker 2 (01:21:05):
Corner three no good rebound. Waverley coming up on the
one minute mark, Alexander walks it across the timeline. Southeastern
and the two three stretched out. They give way to
Russell out top. It's Gunner Myers over right side. It's
Hurt drives right down in the middle, un touched and

(01:21:26):
just lays it in.

Speaker 3 (01:21:27):
I mean, it was like parting the Blue Sea there.

Speaker 4 (01:21:31):
Coach there was just nobody from Southeastern there in the
middle of Coach Alley is very less than happy about
what's going on there, I mean, and he is letting
his players know.

Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
Time out on the floor. We'll take it with them.
Forty four to forty two, Waverley out in front. You're
listening to Hernsign HONDI SVC Game of the Week ninety
four Country Wkkjoe, Hey, can you blow.

(01:22:20):

Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
Welcome Back, Waverley, Downtown Gymnasium, Shane Colms, Clay Archer, Hernstein
Hunter SVC. Game of the Week here on ninety four
Country WKKJ Worldwide on the iHeart and uh we we
certainly have a doozy there. Yeah, it was forty two
all and intiguing. Her just ended up taking the ball
and just shooting down the middle. I don't know Southeastern
thought they were going to hold the ball longer. He

(01:22:49):
lays it in and as a result, Waverley up forty
four forty two. So at forty nine point four to play,
Southeastern's gonna have at length to the floor. See if
Waverley they might they might offer a little bit of
the token pressure here. They're gonna let it get it
into Williams and Carrol's just gonna try to capt and
mouse him up the.

Speaker 5 (01:23:08):
Court a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
Williams cross the timeline, looks to go one on one downhill,
He gets all the way into the middle, jump, stop
over the fisher, back out cheetle. Now Williams one more time,
will try to drive. He gets all the way into
the middle, drops a bounce past great into the middle.

Speaker 3 (01:23:27):
Oh big block. Oh they call fouth.

Speaker 5 (01:23:30):
When you said it.

Speaker 2 (01:23:31):
Really good penetration and kick. And this cheetle not downhill
had the step on him and and the block up
top I do think was cleaned a lot of body
underneath and as a result is gonna send cheetle to
the line. So forty four forty two Cheetah with a
chance to shoot a pair to tie this thing back up.

Speaker 4 (01:23:48):
And I just love that Southeastern came out, tried to
waste no time going right at the basket and Lade
Williams has a bunch of good.

Speaker 3 (01:23:56):
Passes that I just didn't come to fruisen of a
of some points. And she will hit that first one.

Speaker 4 (01:24:03):
Now, Coach, I want to ask you if he hits
this next one in your waverley, I don't like if
I'm waving right now the whole development town, because.

Speaker 3 (01:24:12):
You just might turn it over. If I've never been
down time score.

Speaker 2 (01:24:16):
Well, I certainly think you read the defense. The free
throw is no good rebound by Waverley. So now down one,
Southeastern is gonna have to probably go for a steal
and as they as they do, William reaches in the
file is called, so it's gonna be a two shot opportunity,
sending Alexander to the line. So at twenty one to two,

(01:24:37):
twenty one point two, plenty of time for the Panthers.

Speaker 5 (01:24:41):
The number one.

Speaker 2 (01:24:42):
Job of Southeastern is to make sure you box out
here on this second free throw. How many times you
see it where you just don't execute a jumping box
out and give a team another possession, and you.

Speaker 3 (01:24:52):
See it from Benning Ball all the way into the NBA. Coach,
you do.

Speaker 2 (01:24:56):
Alexander makes good on the first one. He's had a
really big night see twenty six. I believe that is unofficially.
I'll get the total for you in the post game.
Make sure you stay with us. This has been a
really good one. Alexander gets a second opportunity here, shot
up rounding comes off and again rebound, So forty five

(01:25:17):
forty three, Southeastern down two fifteen seconds to go, Williams
hasn't and again we're gonna have a timeout, Coach Aley,
it's gonna be a fool, but this time we'll stay
here to make sure we set everybody up here lay.
So let's make sure both teams are gonna shoot two
free throws the rest of the way out. Forty five
forty three, Waverley in front. Southeastern's gonna have it in

(01:25:40):
a late game situation. And the last time they come
out of a timeout, they had Williams trying to play
downhill penetrate kick. If not there Cheetah was trying to
play downhill, I'd look for something similar here. Be interesting
to see on the Waverley side. Are they successful of
taking the ball out of Williams's hands the way they
did in the first half and makes someone other than
Southeast will not necessarily make the shot, but make the

(01:26:02):
play for themselves or someone else.

Speaker 4 (01:26:03):
I like exactly how you said that, Coach, because if
I'm Southeastern, I'm trying to get the ball into Burns's hands,
but not immediately on a pass and a catching shoot
something like that. If I'm Waverley, I'm trying to make
the inbound pass go to Burns. He's been amazing tonight.
But Waveley has been doing a great job of playing
one on one defense with him, and whenever he has
the ball, they're playing that extra help making him, not

(01:26:26):
that he can't, but making him. As a sophomore, understand
if somebody steps over to have that basketball in seat
to make the pass rather than to try and make
the tough shot. So I like, how you ruder that
coach make They can't make the play, not necessarily make
the shot.

Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
So now as you come out of here, there's a
couple of different things we need to highlight. Number One,
it's always difficult sometimes just to get the ball in
bounds in these situations. Then the second thing, you have
great effort guys like a fisher. Waveley's got to be
aware of a second chance opportunity. If I'm southeast and
I'd like to get this first shot up of the
around five seconds to give myself a follow up opportunity.

(01:27:04):
Here we go n bend all the way in to
the back court. It's Williams ten nine and counting. Williams
looks to go downhill off the dribble by side it's
Gland for three, no good rebound Fisher back to Gland
has shot no good, no good, and man, that was
a good one, but Southeastern a couple of good looks
at it. One would have won it, the second one

(01:27:26):
would have tied it. Unfortunately comes up just a little
bit short and the Waverley Tigers win it forty five,
forty three and just an outstanding high school basketball game.

Speaker 5 (01:27:37):
So much to talk about.

Welcome back, Hernstein Hundi SBC Year of the Week in
ninety four Country WKKJ Worldwide. On the iheard Shane Combs
Clay Archer from Waverley Downtown Gymnasium, and boy, did we
have a good one for you tonight here in this
Game of the Week at forty five forty three, Waverley
wins it here on their home court, and you look

(01:31:30):
back early on, it was a tight one throughout. Waverley
enjoyed a fifteen to thirteen advantage at the end of
the first quarter. They extended that lead out to twenty
nine twenty three had halftime, Southeastern found themselves down by
as much as ten at one point in the third quarter.

Speaker 5 (01:31:47):
They come back.

Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
They only trail thirty six thirty three going into the
fourth quarter. Southeastern let it believe forty two to forty.
At one point had some opportunities, tied at forty two all,
but then Waverley it was Hurt on the drive tea
can Hurt was laying it in and the Waverley goes
on to win it. Southeastern had one look to win

(01:32:10):
it late in the game off a rebound, had another
little mid range jumper. Both come up just short, and
Waverley wins it forty five forty three.

Speaker 3 (01:32:18):
Player thoughts, first, coach, you know what, I'm gonna go to.

Speaker 4 (01:32:22):
Waverley wins the rebounding total seventeen to sixteen, including the
last one, which in turn they win the game by
one bucket. So anytime you hear me, you're gonna hear
me say it. Rebounding wins the games. But here's something
that I thought I would never see.

Speaker 3 (01:32:40):
Eleven totals stealers from Southeastern.

Speaker 4 (01:32:43):
They came up with a they forced eleven turnovers, and
I think that just says a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (01:32:49):
Not about Southeastern not being able to score the other thing.

Speaker 4 (01:32:51):
But every time they got a turnover, Waverley just put
their head down and got back on defense and didn't
let one bad mistake turn into two.

Speaker 3 (01:33:00):
So I felt like they did a really good job
in the transition defense.

Speaker 4 (01:33:04):
I'm gonna say it again, the job that Kate Carroll
did to just limit the touches that Williams had, and
when Williams had the ball, he single Handley just disrupted
Southeastern's offense, and I thought it was it was evident,
and then Southeast started getting rolling there late, and I thought,
you know, Waverley almost literally threw the game away there

(01:33:28):
at the end.

Speaker 3 (01:33:28):
Just turnover turnover. That's what you want to see.

Speaker 4 (01:33:32):
Though, if you're coach Bradley, you have everything going against you,
probably at the point where you might not should.

Speaker 3 (01:33:38):
Be winning this game, and you just gut it out
with a young team.

Speaker 4 (01:33:42):
Against a very good, experienced Southeastern team and come away
with your third win in a row after losing four
in a row. But if you're Southeastern fans, do not
keep your head down. You are seeing so many good
things out of these Southeastern Panthers. They they had plenty
of times tonight, coach to give up. They're down by eight,
I think nine at one point that easily could just

(01:34:03):
let the game get away, and they cawed back and
fought to make it I.

Speaker 3 (01:34:08):
Figre two or five point.

Speaker 5 (01:34:10):
They took a two point le.

Speaker 3 (01:34:11):
Yeah, it took a two point lead.

Speaker 4 (01:34:12):
And that's just what you want to see if you're
a school that is, like you said, since twenty fourteen,
having a winning season, getting back to those roots.

Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
Well, as you said, third straight win for Waverley that
evens their record at three and three. Southeastern falls to
seven and four. Let's take a look at some individual scoring. First,
on the Southeastern side, they had a couple different guys
in double figures. It was Brevin Stral's ball with all
ten of his in the first half, and then Brayden
Burns with all ten of his in the second half,

(01:34:41):
including two three balls. They both finished with ten, Carter
Fisher with nine, Gage Cheatle with eight, and then two
apiece for Lane Williams, Joey Pifer, and Dylan Gowen. I
had died all up four or five from the free
throw line. They knocked down three threes, two from Burns,
one from Cheedle. They scored forty three and come up

(01:35:02):
two point short on the winning side. For the Waverley Tigers.
The freshman point guard was outstanding. Cage Alexander with twenty
three points is what I had him four unofficially knocked
down four triples, three of four from the free throw line.
Then it was ten from Sawyer Myers, six from Land
and Russell, four from Tiguing Hurt, including the biggest basket

(01:35:24):
of the night when he just cut down the middle
and then laid it in, and then two for Kate Carroll.
Again five to eight from the free throw line is
what I unofficially had Waverley. And again with those four
to threes all from Alexander. Had that all up and
you get the forty five, which was the winning total
by two. Tell you what we'll do. We'll step away
one more time. If we don't get any coaches, we'll

(01:35:45):
have them call in on the Accurate Heating, Cooling and
Plumbing Scoreboard Show where I'll be joining Vanessa sitting here
a little bit. But we'll take one more time out.
We'll come back if there's no coaches we'll wrap things up.

Welcome Back Waverley is downtown Jamaze him Shane Colmes with
Clay Archer, and it's been a privilege here on the
Hernstein Hunday SVC Game of the Week ninety four country
to b KKJ to call this one with you, Clay
as Waverley wins at forty five forty three. I know
you and I coming into this one, we felt like
this one had all the makeup of being a really

(01:37:21):
even matchup in a real instant classic, and I know
I really enjoyed it. Give us a final thought.

Speaker 4 (01:37:27):
My final thought is what better kind of game to
be and what better kind of arena? You have the
historical downtown Gym here in Waverley, you have the all
time points leader Trey Robinson here to watch, and you
have Waverley coming out like, like we said, kind kind
of always needed this one. Coach after the South Galley game,
you know, gets canceled trying to keep that Way Street going.

(01:37:48):
I thought, to be honest, we saw two teams here
that we're gonna see I think deep in the postseason.
I think these both these teams have a sectional run
that they can definitely put together. I'm gonna be interesting
to see how Avery grows. I'm really interesting to see
how the Southeastern team bounces back after a tough loss.

Speaker 2 (01:38:05):
Here, well, get a lot of fun. Make sure you
stay with us here probably well usually take a little
bit of a break there on the station work as
Vanessa maneuvers all that back at the station there to
get us prepared for about a nine forty five start
there on the scoreboard show. And I'll be with Vanessa
and Sydney, who's done an awesome job with us here

(01:38:25):
producing this one as well. So again, if you're wanting
to hear from coach Bradley, coach Ailey, we will encourage
him to call in to our scoreboard show here a
little bit a little bit later here on WKKJ, as
we look forward to talking to several coaches. So guys
really enjoyed it. For Sidney Newsom back at station for
Clay Archer, I'm Shane Colin's final score for the final time,

(01:38:47):
Waverley beat Southeastern forty five to forty three.
