Speaker 1 (00:00):
He's high school basketball on ninety four Country WKKJ. Now
let's head the game site for today's pregame show on
ninety four Country.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Well, pleasant, good evening to you. Welcome to the Convocation
Center on the beautiful campus of Ohio University. It's boys
District championship time. It's the Waverley Tigers take on the
Uniodie Shermans. Jacob Wise here along with Lou Postage Sydney
Newsom back end studio. Glad you could join us here
on our Hernstein Hundai coverage of the SVC here on
(00:32):
ninety four Country WKKJ and LOUI, you'd be forgiven if
you looked at this matchup on paper and said, boy,
I really think that Uniota is the big time favorite
coming in.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Yeah, you would be in again. You just look at
the see you look at the records, But what you
really have to look at is the confidence. And right
now Waverley's playing with a lot of confidence. They've played
a tremendous schedule to get here, and they've played in
very good games against those good team.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
They're very young too, who like they they're best players
of true freshman. I mean, there's no such thing as
not a true freshman, but a freshman's been playing the
whole year. And those young guys have really grown up
through off the course of it.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, and coach Bradley. I talked to Cook Bradley the
other night, and you know, he said, in reality, we're
probably a year ahead of where we were because I said, hey,
you've got a great opportunity to go down the Combo
district finally goes. Yeah, he goes, probably a year early,
he goes. But you know what, these kids have just
bought in and these kids are grown up here over
(01:31):
the course of the year. And the big thing I
said is confidence. They are playing with confidence and they're
having fun. The other night when they defeated Jackson Boy
where they having fun out on.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Basketball for Yeah, And that's that's a big thing when
you start to have fun again. There's been some things
that maybe haven't been fun for the Waverly Tigers this year,
but here down this stretch, how could you not have confidence.
You win a big overtime game against Washington, a game
that nobody figured you'd win, and then you beat Jackson, who,
by the way, Uni Yoda pretty handily not that long ago.
(02:03):
And you know, that coach Bradley maybe had that conversation
at some point with his players leading up to this
game too, to say, look, you beat a team handily
or that handled Uni Yodo, there's no reason you can't
have confidence coming into this game exactly.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
And that's all he's trying to instill in his players. Hey,
you have a chance, and anytime you get to this
point into the season, at a district final, you have
a chance, and you gotta trust that and you gotta
go out and play just like any other game. And
you know that's what Waverly's doing right now.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
If you look at the two records coming into tonight,
and they're quite a bit different. Louis, you kind of
mentioned it earlier that that SoC two schedule pretty tough
for the Waverley Tigers, especially a young team went nine
and fifteen overall two and eight, finished fifth out of
six teams in that SOOC two. On the other side,
you have Uni Yodo, who wins the SVC thirteen and
(02:58):
one in league play twenty one in three is a
heck of a season overall. Matt Colmes is the SVC
Coach of the Year, He's the District coach of the year.
The District and League player of the Year is on
this roster, and a whole bunch of other guys who
have been awarded deservingly as well. This UNIODA Sherman's team.
When they are at their best, and we've heard other
(03:18):
coaches talk about it, they are really tough to beat.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
They are and you can throw probably the best athlete
in the league, the best defender in the league. You
can throw all kind of accolades at this U NIODO team.
Now that being said, tournament different time of year, but
they have shown in the first two tournament games they
are on track. They are all focused and ready to go.
That first game against Logan Elm, they broke away late
(03:44):
and won that game pretty handily. The other night, to me,
from the second quarter on, there was no doubt who
was going to win that game. So Uniota is coming
into this game too, on fire and very focused team.
They're a team that won to win this district title bad.
They're a team that they're seniors wanted to get back
(04:05):
to this combo bad and right now they're a team
on a mischief.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
And some very notable seniors, not a lot of them,
but some notable seniors on this Uniyoda team that hey,
you're in and win or you're not playing basketball anymore mode,
and that that there's something to be said for that
as well. You know, you look at the Waverley side
of things and the guys who are gonna be on
the floor the vast majority of the night, no seniors
(04:31):
in that group, So you know, you maybe don't have
that quite in the back of your head as much.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Yeah, you're seeing probably teams and you can also say
that about Uniodo. They've got a couple of softmores that
are really good, that are very high contributors to this team.
But yeah, I mean, I think when you look at
this game and I really try to analyze it, I
think Unyodo does have the advantage with the veteran leadership
(04:58):
that they have in this game. Guys that have played
for three years at the varsity level compared to some
kids that have only played one year at the varsity level.
That's a big difference. And when I look at you, Niodo,
basically what they need to do tonight is come out
control the temples. Don't let this opportunity to go buy them.
This is a great opportunity for them. They got to
(05:19):
take away the confidence of Waverley, and they can do
that on the defensive end because they can really get
after you and they can start their offense from the
defensive end. Take away the confidence that Waverley has on
the offensive and by playing great defense in getting some
of those turnovers. And it comes down, and I've said
this all week long, the team that rebounds the ball
(05:39):
the best is going to win. Monday night. Zane Trace
did that Tuesday night. This U Niyodo team did that,
and that's why they're here.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Any other kind of rebounds by committee. Sometimes they score
by a committee. It's a hey, it's your turn down
next quarter. Maybe it's somebody else's turn. We saw last
week where you know, KB Perkins had a second half.
You know, we've had games where you know, Blake Coops
has gone out and played really really well for a
couple of quarters after early in the game being the
(06:10):
assist man and getting it out to other people. But
on the rebounding end of things, KP. Perkins, We've talked
about it a ton. You know, you may look at
the stat sheet and kind of the things that don't
tell you all the story that people like to look at,
and you might not realize how big of a role
that KP. Perkins plays on this Unigota team.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
He does. I mean, he's really the only true big
man they have, and he's coming in after a very
serious injury that he couldn't play all football season and
he was able to come out here and he's contributed
all year loan to this team, and he's taken on
all comers as far as some of the big men
that he has played against all year loan, and he
(06:49):
has stood up to those challenges and has played big
for the Unioda Shermans Well.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
The first game here at the Convo tonight was an
overtime thriller New Lex took down Megs sixty to fifty three.
And hopefully we'll have a good one for you here
tonight as Uniota looks to win a district championship for
the first time since the twenty twenty twenty twenty one season,
Waverley looking to do so for the first time since
the twenty one twenty two season. So both teams excited
(07:16):
to be back here. We should have a good one
geographically not separated by a whole lot, but you know,
not a lot of intersection between these two teams this year,
so it'll be interesting to see how this thing goes down.
Here tonight, about two and a half minutes away from
the lineup introductions and the first tip here in Athens,
the Shermans taking on the Waverley Tigers for a district championship.

Becker at the convo in Athens. It's a Division four
boys district championship here today, I had time to look
at our starting lineups. First, for the visitors, seating wise,
the Waverley Tigers coached by Kyle Bradley, sophomore Gunner Myers
averaging thirteen points per game. We'll get a start along
with Landon Russell, a six to three sophomore averaging eight
(10:14):
point eight. Cage Alexander had twenty two points and the
game winner with two seconds left back on Tuesday against Jackson.
He's a five to eleven freshman, maybe their best player
on the offensive end. Teagan Hurt, a six to one
sophomore averaging ten point two per game, and Sawyer Myers,
a six to five sophomore averaging seven and a half
(10:35):
per game for the Tigers. Again quickly, Gunner Myers, Landon Russell,
Cage Alexander, Teagan Hurt, and Sawyer Myers for the waver
League Tigers. For the Uni Leigh Shermans and head coaching
Matt Combs, it'll be Blake Coops, a six to one
senior second team All SVC, second team All District, averaging
(10:56):
nearly twelve points per game. Six to four A. B. Perkins,
a SVC Honorable Mention District Honorable mention seven point seven
points per game, coming in SVC Player of the Year
District fourteen Player of the Year. Blake Fitch, a six
foot junior third year starter for the Shermans averaging fourteen
point seven along with Caden cut Right, a five to
(11:17):
ten senior third team All SVCAR averaging twelve point three
per game, and Jackson Zickafous averaging eight point one per game,
a five foot ten junior again for the Shermans. It's
Blay Coops, KB Perkins, Blake Fitch, Caden Cuttwright, and Jackson
Zickafous for Matt Combs's Uniyodo Shermans. Sherman's in their home
(11:38):
whites with Unyodo spelled out across the chest in purple
purple numbers front and back, with that yellow outline, little
purple trim around the edges of the head hole and
the armholes in that jersey, and the gold and purple
stripe down the side that matches the stripe on either
side of their white shorts as well. Many of the
players out there for the Shermans with some stylish purple
(11:59):
shoes on as well. Tonight for the Waverley Tigers, it's
the traveling black tops and bottoms with orange trim, orange
stripe down the side that continues down through the black
shorts and they have Waverley spot out an orange across
the chest with a white outline. Orange block numbers front
and back on those jerseys with the white outline as well.
And it is just about time to get this one underway.
(12:22):
Unioda Shermans and Waverley Tigers playing for a district title
and a date next Thursday in the regional tournament. A
lot of folks here to cover this game, Lou. It's
one that obviously has a lot of eyeballs on it.
We've seen Unigota many times this year and got to
(12:42):
believe that they're going to want to start this game
the way we've seen so many times where they come
out and just kind of bludging you to death early.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Yeah. I think that they're going to come out, try
to control the tempo as I said, and that defense
is tough, and I mean the on ball defenders that
have gone cards from Unioto, it's probably the best I've
seen around you and I, as I said, you said
we've seen them a lot that you know what, You
and I haven't seen a loss with Unio. We're undefeated
(13:12):
with them, and I think they like to see us here.
They put us right at center court basically so we
can have a good view, and you know what, everyone
else around us has left.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
We got out a forty foot table to ourselves. KB
Perkins in center circle along with Land and Russell, the
six to three sophomore from Waverley, and the officials stepping
into the middle circle with the Ohio Bobcat logo set
inside a shadow of the State of Ohio. Officials checking
both sides, making sure everyone's ready to go, and the
(13:44):
ball in the air were underway and the tip one
by Waverley and immediately Kayan Conwright tries to jump in
there and slatted away. Gunner Myers will handle for Waverley,
dribbles into the offensive end. Now throws you into the
left wing. Saw your Myers down low, had a good look.
Russell high off the glass and fitch the rebound for
Yuniyodo pushing it up the four right to left tribles
top of the key, hands off Perkins down the left
(14:06):
side of the lane. Looked like he had an open layup,
but cage Alexander reached in and stripped it loose as
it rolled out of bounds under the basket, and the
Shermans will keep possession.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Listen, note on that last pay where Myers tried to
throw that out of up. He was wide open. It
was just a bad pass. It caused him not to
be able to score there.
Speaker 7 (14:25):
So all the.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Shermans here will reset on the offensive end, scoreless. Just
about thirty seconds in here to this district title game.
Left wing with it Jackson Zikafus landon Russell out to
guard a little jumper from the left elbow, too strong
from Blake Fitch on the catch and shoot, and now
on a loose haul, a foul is called on cut
right and it'll be the first foul of the basketball game.
(14:46):
With seven to twenty two left here in this first quarter.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Yeah, if you're uniodo, you don't want to see the
game called that type. So we'll see how this ends
up beating.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
I really like to be aggressive, especially on the defensive end.
Tightly called game can make a little bit difficult for
him bringing up the floor. Now Alexander left to right,
he was the hero back on Tuesday in the big
win over Jackson, still up top Russell now gunner Myers
(15:16):
hoops out to guard him. Contested passed between the rings.
Alexander comes away with it and now Myers saw Your
Myers squares up to the basket at the top of
the key, Perkins daring him to shoot it. Now Myers
dribbles right of the lane, tries to go back to
the middle, and Alexander, cutting down the left side of
the lane, takes the pass and ways it in.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Yeah, the great thing about that was a cut by Alexander.
He's being guarded very well by Jackson and Zickiboo's but
what a great cut without the ball.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Itch into the right corner, hoops not about shooting it,
but nearly lost the handle, and then the pass inside
is off the market. It's stolen away. Saw Your Myers
throws ahead for Russell, gives you back up Myers right wing.
Sherman's in that mand band defense. Down two to nothing
here early down underneath the basket. Double team. They do
get it out. They find Myers, who lays it in
(16:03):
middle of the lane.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
That was Sawyer Myers there for the two and grape
job so far by Waverley of cutting without the basketball
and cutting to the bucket.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Four nothing Wailey here early one minute in long three
from Hoops is too strong and the long rebound pulled
in by Land and Russell. Four of the Tigers. Waverley
moving it up the floor, jumps ouphead of the key,
and now the pass stolen away. Hoops steals it away.
It's a race to the basket low on the left
and he lays it in for two.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Yeah, that's how they start their offense from the defensive end.
And a great job ere by Blake Coops, not fooling
around with the ball, just taking it straight to the
bucket and getting.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
The two Sherman's on the board. Down four to two,
five and a half to play. First quarter, Cage Alexander
dribbles out of the key, offers screen down the right
side of the lane, splits a double team, spins, throws
back free throw line, saw your Myers knocks down the
jumper from the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Waverley three for three from the field start this game.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Came and cut right for three left corner and not
sit home. Big triple for the Shermans makes it a
one point game. Six y five Waverley five minutes left
her first quarter. Kge Alexander dribbling 'ro out his screen
ahead of the key left elbow, spins around, gives it
up Sawyer Myers, who hands the land and Russell right
(17:22):
point fitch out to guard him into the right corner
underhand hand off here and now dribbled back around by
Myers and to the other one Gunner Myers. Here's Sawyer
Myers right point, holds it high over his head with
two hands, now throws left wing and now into the
left corner with its cage. Alexander gets double team there
along the union of a bench does get the pass
(17:43):
away between the rings and Sawyer Myers a reset.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Yeah, I think Waverley is fine with this guype of tempo.
They don't want to get in an unput tempo game
with this unionda Sherman team.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Sawyer Myers has it knocked loose and Zickafus comes away
with it for the Shermans. So a long pit session,
no points for Waverley, and you Niyoda with a chance
to take the lead down six to five.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
That's the problem with you and I Yodo. You take
You're trying to be patient. That means you have to
play offense against a great defense and gives him time
to get steals.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Fitch behind the back, dribble, free throw line, kicks into
the right corners, Zicka fous in front of the Waverley bench.
And now it's Blake Hoops who handles right point off
a screen from Perkins. Paul still nearly locked loose, Paul
loose on the floor and it's picked up by Waverley.
All gonna call Oops for a foul.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
I thought they were both just diving on the floor
for the ball there, But they're gonna get Hoops for
maybe over aggressively.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Hoops can't believe it. Caid Carroll will check in for
Waverley as Gunner Myers heads out for a breather. Cad
Carrol pretty good football player. Waverley up six five, three
point fifty two left here in this first quarter. Saw
(18:59):
your mind takes the inbound.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Talking about football. This was the game we were supposed
to do on a Friday night thing sort we got
stormed out.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
We were there, we just didn't get to do the
game as it didn't happen. And now a travel called
under the basket page Alexander Underneath slipped in the paint
and now to turn over back to the Shermans.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Yeah, I don't know. They probably should mop that up.
Hopefully when they go to the other end somebody comes
out and gets that.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
But they were mopping everything up in the first game tonight,
three and a half to play, first quarter, Fitch dribbling
into the right wing, picks up his dribble, goes to
Hoops who skipped passes into the right corner. Three ball
from Zika Fus short off the front of the rim,
bounces off to the other side, and it's pulled in
by Kegan Hurt. He wants to run left to right
down the floor and he draws a foul. Man he
(19:51):
and Yoda is going to pick up its third foul.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Will be second on Caden cut right.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Isaac Koy will check in for cut right here. Coy,
the sophomore averaging just over three points per game. Now
that substitution necessitated by the quick second foul. Dribbling up top,
Hurt gives it up. Russell dribbling left wing and into
the corner. Hurt for three short off the front of
(20:23):
the rim. Rebound initially taken by Fitch, but he gets
it to Perkins off a deflection and up Perkins will
leave it for Fitch to bring it up the floor
right elbow dribble jumper off the rim the backboard, No,
and the rebound to Koy had it stripped away as
he tried to put it back in Wait till it
comes alay with it. Ta can herd up the floor.
Fought about the pull up three instead skips over to
(20:45):
Myers and now it's Russell for three misses from the
right wing, rebound fought for and it goes out of
bounds off Waverley.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Yeah. One thing people need to get used to here
at the combo is they have two to three point lines,
one for college and one for high school. And a
couple of those have been awfully deep.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Yeah, because you're not you know, you're not looking down
at your feet. You just kind of see it out
of your peripheral vision. Something to adjust to. As well
as the baskets, you know, a different depth perception. The
the backdrop is much farther away from the basket than
you're used to the pro style baskets. Here at the
convo head of the key, KB Perkins tries to imbound
it to Fitch in a just congested area down the
(21:28):
right side of the lane. He makes his way to
the basket, but a foul was called before he attempted
the shot.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
You know, he's not real tall, he's what maybe five
eight five nine, but he works well underneath. He does
a lot of times he quoteses down there on the
block and then he makes a quick spin move. It's
hard to guard.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Kay Carrol picks up the foul for Waverley, his first
first for the Tigers. Fitch tripling gives it to Perkins
left point. Thought about the three a couple of times.
He gets back up for Fitch'll shoot along two from
the head of the key. Missed everything short, but there
for the rebound. Coin back to Fitch for three short
off the front of the rim and the ball knocked loose,
(22:07):
but Waverley o corral still six to five. Waverley two
minutes left this first quarter and another foul called here
from the trailing official.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Is that his first though?
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Yeah, it looks like on zickafuse with his first his first.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Yeah, that's the way they're calling the game right now.
Is not the way Niota wants it to be called. Uh,
but you got to make those adjustments.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Right now, UNIONA shooting just twenty five percent, Waverley sixty percent,
but a one point in game six to five with
two minutes left your opening quarter and bound goes to
Hurt in the right corner and his foot was on
the sideline.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Yeah, that's four turnovers here in the first quarter for Waverley.
They've only had five shots at the bucket only he's
missed two, but four turnovers.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
The average fourteen and a half turnovers per game. Do
the Waverley Tigers and you know you're gonna go to
loves to live off of those hoops driving left of
the lane, gets fouled as the shot goes off the
left side of the rim, and Blake Coops will heading
the free throw line for apair.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
As I said, I think Waverley likes this tempo. Unioto
wants to get their offense started. Uh Fitch is having
trouble shooting. He's frustrated out there after his last miss.
You could see him down there. They need to see
the ball go through the hoop.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Blay Coops is seventy three free throw shooter, knocks down
the first for his third point and that gets us
to a tie game. Here for Kat Carroll should be
six to six, correct, Yes, what I have They wait
until the second free throw attempt to put it up.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
That scoreboard, just teasing us right there.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Different situation here than what we're used through. Second one.
All the way it goes home is well four for hoops.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Now they still just have it at six. It shouldn't
be seven to six.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Here we go seven six Shermans. One left here. First
quarter cage. Alexander, the freshman working on Jack Welch, who
just checked in tea get hurt, thought about a long three,
has the ball knocked loose. Alexander picks it up middle
of the lane through a leaping defender. Shot too strong
(24:27):
and Welch will come away with it on the long
rebound for the Shermans. Tribbles into the right wing, pulls
it back out, gives up hoops for an NBA three,
and he knocks it home from head of the key.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
I think he looked down and saw where he was
and he says, I don't care, I'm gonna shoot shot.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
That one from about Eaton, Ohio right there on the
border of Indiana. Ten six Uneoda in front. One minute
left here, opening quarter, right wing with it Land and
Russell for Waverley enters low on the right to sell
your Myers trying to back down. Perkins kicks back out
left point. A couple of dribbles to the free throw
line gunner. Myers too strong off the glass, rebound ripped
(25:06):
away by Perkins, fires ahead to the right wing for hoops.
Fought about another long three, but pulls it back out,
skips at the Fitch left wing into the corner. Now
Welsh back to Fitch, Fitch looking inside. We'll instead back
back out as the Shermans we've seen so many times
this year love to hold for the last shot. Clock
at twenty six seconds in his first quarter. We've seen
(25:29):
them hold for as much as nearly two minutes at
the end of a quarter.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Yeah, Judio had not shot the ball well all quarter
except for hoops. And you've got some good quality minutes
here from the two sophomores in Welsh and Coy.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
So clocket six five. Perkins right point, takes a dribble
down the left side of the lane, shot up and
good over the defender, and that'll end the first quarter.
So it goes right into their hands as KB Perkins
joins the scoring and after a slow start, Uniota leads

Rewards the start of the second quarter here at the
Convo on the campus of Ohio University Boys Division four
District title Here Sherman's lead twelve to six over the Waverley.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Tigers, shooting there unwed to four of ten to two
of five from beyond the arc, one for two from
the free throw line. Waverley went the last what four
minutes zero for four from the line or from the
field when they started out three for.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Three after a slow start, the Sherman's with two big triples,
Waverley with no triples in that first quarter contact underneath.
Perkins gets his own rebound and now hoops driving baseline,
has it swatted away underneath. And after a tightly called
first quarter, a little bit of letting them play here
to start the second.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Yeah, they letting the big guys play, not the guards.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Blandon Russell it's the right baseline and lays it up
and in for his first points. Put it the other
way to Koy on the baseline and he draws a
foul underneath by Russell.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Yeah, Koy was gonna take it baseline. He had a
lane there and Russell just basically blocked that lane by
movie first first of the period twelve eight.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Seven points in that first quarter from Blake hoops and
bound goes to Isaac Cooy near that logo at center court.
You know, all hand off for Hoops to start the offense.
Hoops head of the key, picks it up, throws into
the right corner for Koy. Koy puts it on the
floor at the left tangibles to the right wing passed
nearly taken away, but Perkin's able to get it. He
(28:44):
gives up for Fitch low on the right and that
one passed toward the corner, deflect it out of bounds
by Waverley. I think it was teaging Hurt who got
a hand on it.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
Very it's a bad throwing spot there almost into the corner.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Now it's still on the side. He does get it
into Blake hoops hoops, dribbles to the right elbow, pull
up jump or too strong off the back of the rim,
and the rebound to Russell for Waverley now pushing it
up the floor cage. Alexander's Welch guards him tightly. Now
all the way out at half court, Russell was being
guarded closely by Fitch. Left wing Alexander off the screen
(29:27):
from Sawyer Myers between the legs, dribble with the left
elbow turns. Has it stripped away by Welch? Welch? Has
it stripped away by Carrol? And a foul called lay
out at the three point line on hoops and Blake
walking over toward the bench. David Long gonna check in
(29:49):
here for KB Perkins. That was the second foul from Blake.
Hoops twelve eight. Sherman's leads six and a half left
to play. First KG Alexanders stops middle of the lane,
fires a heater right down the middle of the lane
and the intended target was not there yet. He was
(30:10):
looking for Teag and hurt and it goes out of
bounds back to Unyodo.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
We're going to get a time out Waverley here, so the.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
First time out from either team here, six twenty three
left in this second quarter. It's twelve eight. Uniyodo leads Waverley.
This is cert sign hun day coverage of the SVC.
It's ninety four Country WKKJ.

Speaker 13 (31:07):
But since we discovered she has sensitive skin, we've been

Speaker 8 (31:11):
We thought the problem was our puppy, but it.
Speaker 13 (31:14):
Was actually our old detergent ah, so we switched to
tide free and Gentle. Tide Free and Gentle provides an
excellent tide clean and it doesn't leave behind irritating residues
like dyes or perfumes, so it's gentle on your skin.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Case closed.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
If it's got to be clean, it's got to be
tied free and gentle.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Out of the tide out Shermans bring it across the
floor right to left. Jack walch open in the corner
for three. This is it just short and a long
rebounds up out of bounds on the near sideline back
to raise the lue. Got a good look at it,
but unable to knock get home Baby Perkins. Jackson and
Zicka foos back in for the Shermans. Blake hoops and
(31:59):
Isaac koy head back toward the bench.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Yeah, Blake Coop's going to the bench ever with those
two fouls. Also, Kate got right still on the bench
with his two fouls for you and Yoto.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Six minutes left here in this first half twelve eight
you need go the leads against Waverley here in this
district title game, saw your Myers for a long three
short off the right wing and the rebound. Zickafou's ahead
for Perkins who's by himself and he lays it in
along on the right.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
Four points tonight for Perkins. He's done a good job.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
Could find from Zikafous after the long rebound. Sherman's up
fourteen to eight. Five and a half left here second quarter,
left wing with it trying to get to the baseline
shut off by Welch and now Landon Russell holds it
over his head as Fitch comes out to guard the
left wing. Saw your Myers trying to direct traffic with
(32:57):
his off ball hand now throws the right wing for
kid Errol long out to guard him. Carroll into the
left wing for Hurt and now back out of the
key Myers cage. Alexander dribbling right of the lane, turns
back to the elbow jump stop jumper middle of the lane. No,
and Zika Fuse pulls down the rebound for the Shermans.
Fitch trying to rush it ahead here through a double
(33:20):
team in the lane, gets fouled as he's trying to
lay it up with the right hand, and Fitch'll head
to the free throw line looking for his first points tonight.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Yeah, great, little hesitation moved to get it all the
way to the bucket. He's struggled here from the field
to see if he can't see one go in from
the free throw line.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Second foulow on Kaid Carroll. Second foul the quarter for
Waverley Blake Fitch an eighty point four percent free throw
shooter and knocks the first one home here the Shermans
as a team shoot it at seventy four percent from
the free throw line, and that's not all you can
(33:59):
ask for.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Yeah, good high school team, you know, probably right around seventy.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Second one all the way and that one good as well.
Speaker 7 (34:12):
So too.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Now for Dlake Fitch, the SVC and District player of
the year, and now the Sherman's doubling up on Waverley
sixteen to eight with five minutes left to play. Here
first half, the cage, Alexander head of the key bounce
pass for Sawyer byers right point and I'll Russell, we'll
turn his back to the basket. Almost had it knocked
(34:34):
away by Fitch. We have to be on alert at
all times, no matter where you are on the floor,
don't you.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
Yeah, this UNIODA team's going to guard you. Alexander's really
having a tough time trying to get open against Unioto
here tonight.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
To get hurt right point, welch out the guard to
the free thrown line, runs over him and goes straight
to the basket and ways to him at the left hand.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Yeah, I think that just a uh try there where
he just said, you know what, I'm going to the bucket.
I'm gonna put my head down and go baby.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Perkins uncourts at three from the head of the key
that's short off the front of the rim, and Land
and Russell the rebound Russell for Waverley up the floor
to Gunner, Myers in the left wing, back to Russell
between the rings. It will clear out some space in
the left corners. He dribbles over there in front of
the Unioda bench and I saw your Myers back up
ahead of the key. Calls out a play, Perkins out
(35:27):
the guard, Land and Russell left wing. Saw your Myers
looking for options, lobs inside for Russell, who gets it,
puts it in middle of the lane.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Yeah. Two really good offensive possessions in the row here
for Waverley.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Kind of lobbed it in there over the defenders who
were high on the player there Russell, and once he
caught it and turned around, there was no one between
him and the basket. After a four point game sixteen twelve,
Unioto Fitch driving baseline, dumps it out long for three,
too strong and the rebound to Waverley is saw your
(36:06):
Myers rips it down head long on corking of three,
and now he gets his steal as the pass was loose.
Sherman's get it right back. Fitch for a long three,
knocks it down from the right point.
Speaker 7 (36:21):
Fish.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
It's the job there by. Fitch, just in transition, catches
the ball under control, buries a three.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Two and a half left to play here, first half,
nineteen twelve. You and he got to spend move inside
from cage. Alexander puts it in.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Yeah, that was really a nice food there by Alexander.
You Kniodo's trying to get hoops and cut right back
in the game at the scores table, both with two fouls.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Maybe Perkins spins down the right side of the lone,
makes the basket and draws the foul. Perkins with six
and a chance to make it seven.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Yeah, that was just a strong move by his senior
against his sophomore Tea.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Zickafoos and welch and long come out hoops Rightabos went
for water, That's why hoops and cut right back in
kb Perkins bens and fires with the left hand, knocks
on the free throw seven for him out a twenty
(37:28):
two to fourteen Unioda lead with two twenty left year
second quarter cage Alexander Zickafous guarding saw your Myer's right
point well extended. Now he sets his screen for Alexander
at the top of the key. Alexander trying to pully
his way to the middle of the lane, and he traveled.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Again. He's trying to make things happen. But tonight against
the Uniodo team, it's very difficult. They are a little
bit more physical, a little stronger, and you can't make
some moves you've been able to make with some of
these games.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Strong student sections from both teams here tonight on opposite
ends of the floor. Of course, here at the convo
the lower upper level. I suppose that wraps all the
way around the floor. That's for a fun atmosphere. Zickafu's
opened three left wind knocks it down. Zickafu saw the board.
(38:25):
Sherman's lead goes to twenty five fourteen time out of
the floor, one nine left here in the second quarter.
This is Pernstein Hyundai coverage of the SVC ninety four
Country WKKJ.
Speaker 10 (38:37):
You never know if the person next to you in
line is a McMuffin, a mcgriddle's biscuit or Burtal person.
But what you do know is that every last one
of us in line for our McDonald's breakfast this morning.
We're brave enough to get out of bed a few
minutes early.
Speaker 11 (38:52):
Right now, get a two dollar breakfast sandwich like a bacon,
egg and cheese biscuit a sausage McMuffin with egg only
in the app. Offer valid for day from seven between
nine to nine. Participating in McDonald's must stop into rewards.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Twenty five fourteen, Yoda has started the takeover a little bit.
Jackson Zygafus with a big three Payton cut right with
one just before that, and the Shermans spreading their wings
a little bit here as they go up by eleven
left here in this first half.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Yeah, that was a good time out Waverley. You don't
want to let this lead increase right before halftime. You
want to get a solid offensive possession, get some points here.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Russell driving right of the lane jumper a tough shot
almost went home, but it rolls off a far aside
the rebound of the Shermans. Fitch left wing Perkins and
now hoots top of the key. Dribbling with the left
hand leaves it back for Fitch looks up at the
clock with one to twenty left here in this first half.
(40:03):
If they can run off that final one twenty here
in the half, they will. Fitch drives the middle of
the lane, dumps it back out. Hoops has an open
look underneath as he runs through the lane, and he
lays it up with the right hand that's moved there.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
I was just thinking, if they got gap, so they're
gonna go right to the bucket, and that's what he did.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
Nine now for Hoops leads all scores twenty seven to fourteen.
Sherman's landon Russell right wing, dumbles to the free throw line,
turns his back, gets it out for Sawyer Myers, who
dribbles right back to the free throw line. I think
his shot was partially blocked and it goes out of
bounds and they say, no one touched it, just an
airball and it goes back to Unyodo.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
So Uniodo's got a thirteen point lead right now, chance
to increase that before halftime.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
We saw Uniodo hold for the final shot of the
first quarter, and I got the layup from K P. Perkins.
I'll certainly try to here. With forty four and a
half seconds left in this second quarter.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
Looks like Waverley. We'll go to a zone here, a
little extended two three zone.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
Fitch across the half court line. Perkins back to Fitch
on the Bobcat logo.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
The middle right now is the wide open spot on
the floor.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Fitch. Now they're going to man still back toward half court,
propped out of ten seconds, Fitch right wing, working on cage.
Alexander drives left's out of the lane, shot up off
the glass. No and be bound loose, still loose, and
finally ripped down by Sawyer Myers in his long heave.
(41:50):
Will not go. And it is halftime here at the
convo Uneodo up twenty seven fourteen on Waverley in this
district game. We'll take a break. This is Hernstein Hode
coverage of the SVC on ninety four Country WKKJ.

Halftime here at the convo in appens Yuneoto with a
twenty seven fourteen lead over the waver League Tigers in
this Division four Boys District championship game. Scoring wise individually
for the waver League Tigers for each from Landon Russell Cage,
Alexander and saw your myers Man two from Teagan Hurt
(47:03):
and that is it so far for the Tigers, who
have been frustrated on the offensive end of the floor.
On the other side of things, after a slow start,
the un the other Shermans picking it up a little bit.
Blake Coops ends up with nine after a seven point
first quarter, seven from KB Perkins, five from Blake Fitch,
all five of those coming in the second quarter, and
(47:25):
big three's one each from Caden cut Right, Jack and
Jackson Zikaffuse cut Rights in the first quarter, Zickafous in
the second quarter, scoring by quarters. Waverley got off to
an early lead, but had a long stretch there At
the end of that first quarter where they did not score.
Unioda went on a run that took a twelve to
six lead after one man then outscored Waverley fifteen to
(47:48):
eight in the second quarter to take this twenty seven
to fourteen halftime lead.
Speaker 3 (47:54):
Yeah you and Nioto shooting nine of twenty forty percent,
four of ten from beyond the arc, four for five
from the free throw line. Looking at Waverley, they were
seventeen or seven of sixteen forty six percent, and they
were a zero of three from beyond the arc. So
again the defense of Uniodo. They adjust to how the
referees are calling the game and did a really good
(48:17):
job there late in the first quarter into the second
quarter of really making it hard for Waverley to get
anything going offensively, and I think you're going to see
the you know, continue of that in the second half.
Unyodo they know Waverley's having a difficult job or time
on the offensive end, They're just going to continue to
(48:38):
bring that pressure.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
And interesting to look too, you know the early fouls
with Cutwright and Hoops, they spent significant portions of that
first half on the bench, and the Sherman's got really
great minutes from Isaac coy and Jack Welch and even
David Long coming in there for a little bit as well.
To tonight's job and you know, miss a beat in
(49:01):
terms of the team scoring and playing some tough defense.
So very very important for that when you get into
games like this and you get some early fouls, which
is not something the Shermans have had to deal with
a whole lot.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
Yeah, you know, and again going back to the other night,
Waverley was really confident on the offensive end. That's not
the same team we see tonight. And again, as I
said at the beginning of the game, Unioto needs to
take away that confidence. Well they did, and they've done
that to a lot of teams all year long. And
that's what they do, and that's what they do good.
That's why they're here, that's why they have the record
(49:33):
they do have. And again you talk about those guys
coming off the bench and contributing, that's what you good
teams have to have. Those kids come in, understand their
role and fill in that role. And those guys do
a wonderful job.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
But if you remember back way early in the season,
I think it was maybe the game against Southeastern where
the Shermans they've got ten guys listed on their roster.
Eleven guys scored in that game for the Shermans. To
tell you how de this program is not just the
varsity roster. And of course, you know, some of those
guys we got used to them being in games late,
(50:08):
because they had some games where they came out and
really just poured it on and they could get some
very important minutes for some more of those younger guys
to keep the strength of that varsity program going. But boy,
when they when they shoot it, it's it's contagious, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
Yeah, And going back to that game you talk about
Southeastern game. Uniota struggled earlier in the year, they got
some losses there, and I think it was that Southeastern
game where they started to say, hey, you know what,
we can extend our bench. We have guys that can
come off the bench and play well and shoot the
ball well. And I believe what was it that game
they had like six guys make threes.
Speaker 7 (50:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
So again, yeah, I think we point back to that game,
that point in the season where you and you odo
figured out, hey, we've got a team that can you know,
really go deep on the bench not lose stuff.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
And you know, here they are and at that point
to Southeastern was still unbeaten. Yeah, and now here we
are just two teams left out of the SVC. The
Sherman's here looking to win a district title in an
advance to the regional tournament. And the other one tomorrow night,
the Zane Trace Pioneers. We heard Grady Stewart last week
say I want to get to the convo and they
(51:17):
had a game in between there that they had to
figure out, but they got it done. They'll take on
Minford tomorrow here in Athens at six fifteen and a
Division five district final, and we'll have that game for
you here on WKKJ. Lou and Shane gonna be with
you on that one.
Speaker 3 (51:34):
Shane will be here, yep.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Lou's been here. He's just put up a tent here
on the media row and just hanging out here every night.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
I'm wondering if we could change this week to late
night with Lou, because that's we've had late nights all week.
Speaker 2 (51:49):
Absolutely, So good luck to Zane Trace tomorrow night. And
a big, big thank you to a Dina Health for
helping us bring you all this tournament basketball coverage here
throughout the last couple of weeks and hopefully four a
bit longer to come ready for the second half here
at the Convocation Center twenty seven to fourteen. UNI Yoda
(52:10):
with the lead. Waverley will start the second half with
the basketball as the team's flip ends, and the Sherman's
will now shoot down to our right, and the Waverley
Tigers will now shoot down to our left.
Speaker 3 (52:29):
God, you got two quarters of basketball here to get
a district title. If you're in and Yodo, you just
gotta play smart basketball and finish out this game.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
Winner of tonight's game will play a regional semi final
here on Thursday at six pm. That's one of three
teams still to be figured out. Who that's going to
be next week. But first things first, long three from
teageing hurt is too long, KB Perkins, the heck of
a job to save it in gets it to cut right,
who dribbles up the floor left the right fires at three.
(52:59):
This is in, kicks off into the corner where cage
Alexander hauls it in on the near side. Alexander dribbling
across the half court stripe right the left behind the back, dribble,
backs it back out, gets it into the right wing.
Now Gunner Myers two hand pass underneath, saw your Myers
spin across the lane and he hops and lays it
in two.
Speaker 3 (53:20):
Really a nice mood thereby Myers. He almost got off balance,
but he caught himself, so.
Speaker 2 (53:25):
The Sherman's back the other way quickly Perkins right point
into the right corner hoops looking at a three, and
now Fitch catches it running toward the right block and
has it stripped loose and out of bounds, and the
Shermans will hang on to it as Waverley knocked it
out of bounds. So that game next Thursday from the
winter tonight against either River Valley or the winner of
(53:46):
tonight's Johnstown Buckeye Valley game. And bound to Blake Hoops
top of the key, driving past t get hurt left
hand and too strong off the glass. There's a lot
of I'm back down low, no whistle Russell ahead for
Gunner Myers who puts it in off the glass his
(54:09):
first two of the game, and Waverley coming out on
a little bit of a run here as a fouls
call on Gunner Myers, I believe and you go to
trying to get it back down the floor quickly.
Speaker 3 (54:22):
And so just like in the first half, Waverley starts
off pretty well, getting four early points here in this
court for.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Either team, got it back to a single digit deficit.
Twenty seven eighteen are bound to Perkins back near that
center logo on the floor about Fitch out of the key,
Perkins left wing, cut right, Alexander rout to guard. Now
(54:53):
Fitch between the legs, dribble, backs it back outhead of
the key. Play coots off the screen from Perkins crossover,
dribble to the free throw line down the lane, and
he lays it in and draws the foul. Hoops the
first in this game and the double figures.
Speaker 3 (55:13):
Yeah, he did a great job on Tuesday night of
leading the Union Sherman's in scoring. And he continues that
here tonight.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
So hoops out the line with eleven, looking to make
it twelve. Made two free throws back in the first quarter.
Now he knocks this one home. Now the Sherman's lead
is thirty to eighteen. Age Alexander and Dandrew being trapped
and his pass across the court tipped out of bounds
(55:47):
by Cutwright, and it was coming over to complete that
trap along the new sideline. Thank you k new what
was about to happen there, didn't he?
Speaker 3 (55:59):
He sure? And again they have got to be ready
for that at all times, because they will run and
jump you right out of a man the man or
zone or whatever.
Speaker 2 (56:13):
Sawyer Myers dribbles just inside the free throw line and
hits the jumper from the middle.
Speaker 3 (56:17):
Of the lane. Yeah, the Myers brothers have come out
ready to play.
Speaker 2 (56:22):
This happen right wing, hoops backhead of the key. Fitch
gets a screen from Perkins, who you now Fitch back's
back out gunner Myers out to guard him. Fitch into
the left corner, sets the screen for cut righting, dribbles
to the middle of the lane, gives up hoops shot
fake for three, dribbles off his foot and it's picked
up by the logan Landon Russell excused me for Waverley.
(56:43):
Russell pulls up with a free throw line and miss
the jumper and hoops the rebound for the Shermans.
Speaker 3 (56:50):
That is only the third turnover on the knife for
uni Ita.
Speaker 2 (56:53):
Long two for hoops short off the front of the
rim long rebound h two. Shermans had to look at it,
but they both fought over it and wavefully gets it
right back. They pass it quickly down the floor and
Tea can hurt rais it in low on the right
eight point game thirty to twenty two. Unioto in front
five minutes left. Here in the third corner, Blake Fitch
(57:20):
barking out orders a couple of dribbles, gets it to Hoops,
who drives in the lane and draws the foul.
Speaker 3 (57:32):
Yeah, good job there of attacking the bucket.
Speaker 7 (57:36):
Paul Jorge La Russell.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
Russell picks up his second and Hoops is going to
the free throw line here he'll have two. So Hoops
already three for three from the free throw line tonight,
leading all scores with twelve. It's number thirteen as the
first one goes down.
Speaker 7 (57:57):
Okay, girls trobing good.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
Kay Carroll checks in for Gunner Myers for Waverley on
the second one coming here from Hoops to make it
a ten point game.
Speaker 3 (58:11):
Hell you what press row here is a great advantage
point for these games I.
Speaker 2 (58:15):
Do every game here. The second one goes down as well.
Hoops now five of five from the free throw line
here tonight. Oh and here's his steel by cut right
new ladies again with the right round so quick full
court pressure remains saw your Myers has to pick it
(58:35):
up shy of half court, but he finds Landon. Russell
Russell into the right wing, picks up his dribble back
of the basket, almost had it stripped by Fitch, but
a foul call as he reached in to knock it away,
and Fitch will pick up his first tonight.
Speaker 3 (58:52):
Think Fitch thought he got it clean, but uh referee
had a different view.
Speaker 2 (59:01):
Hey, you sit up here, and I don't know why
anyone want to call a game from the scorers table,
referees and coaches standing in front of you.
Speaker 7 (59:14):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (59:15):
Yeah, we're at a point where we got no fans
really that can stand up and be in front of us.
Speaker 2 (59:20):
Trying to abound here, almost taken away by Zika fuse
ball tapped around a couple of times and it went off.
Speaker 3 (59:25):
Waverley turnover number nine on the night for Waverley.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
Sherman's a chance to add to a twelve point lead
for twenty one left here in the third thirty four
twenty two, I have Blake. Fitch brings it across the
floor working on Caid Carroll and a pass here tipped
away Teak and Hurt comes away with it. Fitch hits
(59:53):
the deck. You find Land and Russell wide open anyway?
Is it in off? The turnover?
Speaker 3 (59:59):
Waverley just did what Uni Yoto does to all kinds
of teams. They were able to get a quick Steelings
beat everyone down the floor.
Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
Fitch spins middle of the lane, high off the flange.
No good. Russell the rebound Waverley. Russell, trying to go
coast to coast, shoots it off the side of the
backboard into the arms of Jackson. Zickafous for Uni Yodo
spins right point fires the three knocks it on.
Speaker 3 (01:00:24):
Got two of those on the night, and both of
them from the deep part of the three point area.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
Three point famtigue hurt in and out and zickafoos the
rebound for the Shermans thirty seven twenty four. Uni Yoto
three and a half to play. Third quarter hoops with
a little stutter at the right wing, gives it up
now now fetch them the left point. Stutter drives, kicks
it out from the corner off the top of the backboard,
and Kay Carroll gets it for Waverley. Kyla takes a
(01:00:52):
right back find Zika Fous running down the lane. Turn easy,
lay up.
Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
I believe.
Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
You can ever relax with the basketball against this Sherman's
defense and a time out on the floor for Waverley.
Thirty nine twenty four Sherman's lead three oh eight left
in the third. This is Hernstein hun Day coverage of

Thirty nine twenty four Unioto leads here over Waverley, three
h eight left in the third and a district championship
on the line. The winner gets to cut down the
nets and keep on playing. The losing team is onto
spring Sports. There's a layup attempt short from Landon Russell
out of the time out for Waverley. Sherman's getting right back.
(01:02:42):
Fitch buy the back dribble spin, moves middle of the
lane and he lets the runner in.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
I'll tell you what. They cut it to ten. They're
at thirty four to twenty four and seven oh run
by Unioto. Now they're up by seventeen.
Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
To forty left third quarter. Every time you feel like
you're back into it, Nneodo has been able to make
a run of their own. Randon Russell, head of the key,
saw your Myers out beyond the College three point line.
Myers drives right side of the lane. He slipped and
fell down. The ball rolls out of bounds, out in
(01:03:20):
the far corner and back to the Shermans.
Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
Yeah, that was hit last by Teagan Hurt And again
what we've seen here in this third quarter is continuation
of Alexander are just struggling on the offensive end, not
being able to get open and get free. The Uniodo
defense have done a good job of shutting him down tonight.
He's got four points and has not had a shot
here in the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Now, two points in the first quarter, two points in
the second quarter, and that has been it for Cage Alexander.
Third Team All District honoree. The SOOC has not put
out their league All League team. Fitch down the lane
with the left hand, can't get it to go, put back,
comes off the side of the rim and saw Your
Myers the rebound this time for Waverley, where Waverley just
(01:04:08):
bouncing it all over the place. Somehow they come away
with it. Cage Alexander dribbling left of the lane, gets
it into the corner. Carrol now down low and Gunner
Myers puts it in.
Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
Yeah. The both Gunner and Sawyer have done a good
job here in the second half. Both of them have
four points in this quarter. Nice strong moves inside.
Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
One and a half left here. Third quarter forty one
twenty six. Uniodo leads Zika fousen right back to Fitch
and now they reverse it to cut right, gets it
down low. Perkins spin middle of a lane, through contact, puts.
Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
It in two nice patient moved there by KB. Perkins
almost got an a one.
Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
First points of the second half for KB as cage,
Alexander goes coast to coast and it comes up short
with the left hand gunner Myers put back rattles in
and out and them all kind of popcorn out of
bounds and they say it went off of Carol of Waverley.
(01:05:09):
I had a substitution coming here. I think did KB
Perkins get poked.
Speaker 19 (01:05:13):
In the eye.
Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
Maybe looks like it.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
He Alexander coming out of the game here.
Speaker 3 (01:05:19):
I can't see the number of the kid who came in.
Looks like his first time in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:05:23):
Maybe Carson Nibert. I believe number twelve looks like Sophomore.
Inside a minute left her third quarter, Fitch nearly lost
the handle up top, gets at the cut right in
the left wing by the scorers tables. He walks it
back between the rings. Now all hoops try to avoid
(01:05:43):
a trap back to cut right. Sherman's trying to eat
this clock up here in the third quarter, and a
beautiful pass inside and Fitch missed the layup along the right.
Speaker 3 (01:05:54):
That was a nice cut too.
Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
If you get opened KB, you'll find you. Here's Gunner
Buyer is driving back the other way and he puts
it in high off the glass.
Speaker 3 (01:06:08):
In six points this quarter. Enough for Gunner Myers.
Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
After going scoreless in that first half fourteen thirteen twelve
left Here in this third quarter forty three twenty eight,
Uni Yodo Fitch dribbling up top seven, six five, and
he draws a foul with five point eight left on
this third quarter clock.
Speaker 3 (01:06:27):
It's a fourth foul on Waverley this quarter. They can't
foul anymore. They're gonna go to the free throw line.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
Cayden cut right, will inbound it right in front of
his bench, gets it to Fitch four three hoops, squares
upright point two one, gotta shoot it, lets it rip
and it just grazes the front of the rim, and
we go to the fourth corner. Here in Athens, Sherman's
(01:06:58):
eight minutes away a district title up forty three twenty
eight over the Waverley Tigers. This is Hernstein ho Day

The start of the fourth quarter Here at the convo
forty three twenty eight, une yodo in control and I'll
start the fourth quarter with the basketball. Flake Fitch lost
the handle. Carrol had it briefly, but Zika Fus quickly
arrived to pick up the loose ball, dumps it in
(01:08:38):
the left corner. Three ball goes in for cutright, eight
for cutright. Quickly the other way Teage Hurt can't get
to lay up low on the left and the ball
out of bounds off of Uni Yoda.
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
What number one there for Kike Carrol, for Waiverley done
a good job on defensively, really trying to cause some
hammick inside. I think we see Dawson Mitchell for the
first time for you, Nioto and for KB Pertners.
Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
Dawson Mitchell to six seven Junior, another one of those
bench players that have given the Shermans some big time
minutes throughout the season. Had a pass here stepped in
front of by cut right. He'll take it to the
basket himself and he lays it in with the right
hand and cut right now in double figures with ten.
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
He just has a knack of getting to the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
No matter what sport it is. Cage Alexander gives up
for Sawyer. Saw your Myers now Cage right of the lane,
gives it up underneath. It was saw your Myers who
got to the block and lays it in.
Speaker 7 (01:09:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
This second half for Waverley, both Myers have six points,
so they have twelve of their sixteen points in the
second half.
Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
I saw your Myers now with ten leads all Waverley Tigers.
And now a layup goes in for Blake Hoops. He
has sixteen to lead. All scores fifty to thirty. It's
a twenty point game. The right wing Russell for three
two strong rebound contested and off of Fitch is saying
(01:10:23):
it went off the supporting arm of the backboard, and
the official says, no, you caught it with your foot
on the in line.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
They're going to give the ball to u and Iodo here.
Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
I think it. I think Fitch was right.
Speaker 3 (01:10:42):
He convinced the referee. Waverley still struggling from beyond the
arc that was now their sixty three pointer. They have
attempted and they have not made one.
Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
That never looked good to look up at the scoreboard
and they put the shooting percentages up here in zero
next to the three point line the left corner. Here,
Fitch goes baseline, blows by the fender, got it to
Dawson Mitchell, who got a shot block. I think he
was surprised to get the basketball, thought Fitch was gonna
take it himself. Cage Alexander for three short off the
(01:11:16):
front of the rim and had the rebound. Welch for uniodo.
Shearman's by twenty fifty to thirty five point fifty left here,
long skip pass from hoops to cut right across the lane.
They're trying to get it to Dawson Mitchell. That time
it was poked away out of bounds under the basket, and.
Speaker 3 (01:11:38):
Again he's still learning at the varsity level. Right there,
you just got to go further across the lane to
see anybody coming down from the top from blocking it
away from.
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
Gunner. Myers and Teagan Hurt come out for Waverley. Cam
Humphries has checked in and Batman is walking across the
seats in front of us.
Speaker 3 (01:11:58):
He just sort of came out of nowhere too.
Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
Has he been wearing that the whole game? I just
notice this is at the chest armor on the beat
mask and everything is Fitch spins and hits the jumper
middle of the lane.
Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Never fear Batman is here.
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
Kage Alexander driving inside, has it tipped away and the
Shermans get it up by twenty two, five and a
half left to play. Kaby Perkins all right, I'm one
of his teammates down there, ready to check in for
Ni Yodo. Is that cut right? Trying to get back
into the game. Play Coops tribbling right point, Coops trying
(01:12:39):
to get past Landon Russell, and he draws a foul
right out of going Land and Russell his third.
Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
You know, I just noticed we had a switch of referees.
Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
You know, the gentleman who just called the foul. I
thought I'm not seeing him the entire game.
Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
And is now sitting at the scorer's table. Oh hopefully okay,
And he looks like he's smiling and everything. So maybe
he just wanted to let that guy into the game.
How about that?
Speaker 2 (01:13:14):
Isaac Koy has checked into the game for the Shermans
along with KB Perkins. Fitch now Perkins left point and
the left wing. Koi dribbles it out of a double
team attempt passed into the right wing long three from
Hoops too strong there rebound Koi flying through the air,
(01:13:34):
and he gets it back out to Fitch out near
the center circle.
Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
He's got some hops. He's a surprising.
Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
Fitch methodically dribbling back and forth. Now hoops in the
right wing. They'll get it back to Fitch. Sherman's beginning
to be extremely deliberate on the offensive end. Twenty two
point lead into the corner. Zickafous normally would have shot
that one, but he pulls it down now, dribbles middle
(01:14:05):
of the lane, dumps it out, hoops fakes the three
drives to the lane through a double team, can't get
the layup to go and the rebound to saw your
Myers and Waverley. Myers dribbling to the left elbow picks
up the dribble back door cut here and the steel
as the pass was low kind of got stuck on
the floor. Now a tied ball. Cam Humphries was in
(01:14:27):
there for Waverley in the possession arrow with the tigers.
Speaker 7 (01:14:34):
You saw your Myers.
Speaker 2 (01:14:35):
I had a bunch of substitutions here for Waverley. Hurt
back in KG Alexander back in.
Speaker 3 (01:14:42):
Time out here for Unio full timeouts.
Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
In there the Shermans burn a time out three fifty
three left. They lead fifty two to thirty. This is

Dot three fifty three left. In a twenty two point game,
most folks not wearing purple have begun to head to
the exits and bound for Waverley. Alexander three from the corner,
hits off the side of the rim, and kV Perkins
the rebound for the Shermans two one one the other way.
Zickafus turns at the block, spins fires and he makes
the basket right of the lane.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
Job He's got ten on the night.
Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
Joins Blake, hoops and Caden cut right in double figures
and Landon Russell got a free trip to the basket.
He missed the layuph.
Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
I think he was surprised, how.
Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
Opad he was kind of turned a corner toward the
baseline and there was nobody there. Pitch tribbling head of
the key blokes past his defender, lops it up with
the right hand. KVY Perkins rips it down, shovels to
Hoops who fires a three from the corner and I
went off the side of the rim. Tea get hurt.
The rebound Waverley fires a one hand pass ahead and
(01:16:57):
a shot fake and then a shot block and then
saved in bounds. It was Isaac Coy who swatted the
shot away.
Speaker 3 (01:17:05):
Tell you what he's got hops. It's kind of hops
I used to think I had. He's got them.
Speaker 2 (01:17:15):
And now the Shermans will go back into their clock
management offense. Five players standing at the scorers table, two
in white, three in black. At the next stoppage, Koy
Town's past the middle of the lane, across the lane
for Hoops can't get it, gets his own rebound put
back attempt swatted away and teaging her rips it away
(01:17:36):
for Waverley right wing with it Landon Russell stops at
the right elbow, had it poked away by Hoops from behind.
Now Perkins lobs it ahead for Koy but it's too long,
so several players checking in. David Long, Jack Welsh for Unyodo,
(01:18:01):
Kate Carroll back in for Waverley, Gunners, Gunner Myers back
in for the Tigers as well, Cage Alexander back in.
Speaker 3 (01:18:11):
Well there's Perkins and hoops two seniors out of the game,
that this is where they wanted to be and they're
going to be able to achieve that district title.
Speaker 2 (01:18:20):
Nice jump shot goes from the middle of the lane
for Cage Alexander his first points of the second half,
now six for him tonight, inside two minutes to play,
Fitch working on Carol and al Zikafus will fling it
over to Isaac Coy still out there toward half court
(01:18:42):
as he looked around. I think he was looking to
see where the line was and now foul called as
a defender grabbed him on the arm. Grenner Myers will
pick up his second foul, second team foul for Waverley
with lefts and the winner plays in the regional semi
(01:19:03):
final a week from tonight six o'clock start here at

Speaker 3 (01:19:10):

for you tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:19:36):
Tomorrow will be five abound.
Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
Past year slatted away by Sawer Myers and a steal
for Waverley okage Alexander trying to cross over the think
dribbled off his foot. Good effort to keep it in
for Waverley by Carson Nibert, and I'll sell your Myers
trying to yeah, take an extra step through, and he
had it slatted away by Dawson Mitchell. Fifty four to
(01:20:01):
thirty two. In case you don't know what the score is,
it's been a while since either team has put one
in the hole. Both teams have gone to their benches considerably.
Here down the stretch, Nyoda infirm control, David Long down
the left side of the lane, gives it up and
now they kick it back out the Long, Long working
(01:20:23):
on Cam Umphries. Long pinned against the half court line,
and a foul is called on Umphries.
Speaker 3 (01:20:35):
Totally the third foul in this fourth quarter by either team.

Unioda with twenty six and a half seconds left. Shermans
(01:22:16):
are going to win their first district title since the
twenty twenty twenty twenty one season of either fifth district championship.
I had a chance to keep on playing and we'll
get a week off. They had a six pm regional
semi final coming up right here on Thursday, a week
(01:22:37):
from tonight three two one zero and the Unioda Shermans
are District champions two final score of fifty six thirty two.
Shermans don't quite put up as many points as we're
used to seeing, but that defense led the They give

David Back here at the Complications Center at Ohio University
in Athens. The awards ceremonies going on here on the
floor of the runner up trophy and the individual medals
for the Waverley Tigers. After a great end to a
(01:27:09):
season that didn't always go the way they wanted. The
Tigers end up nine and sixteen on the year, but
they get to a district championship game after a nice
run to the last two games and the Uniited Shermans
will continue on as district champions. Now twenty two and
three on this great season and they are now receiving
(01:27:30):
their individual medals as district champions. The Latters are out
at the nets so they can cut those down once
they get done with being given their awards. Go through
the scoring from tonight individually for Waverley six points from
Gunner Myers, Landon Russell and Cage Alexander, four points from
(01:27:54):
Teagan Hurt, ten points from Sawyer Myers. The Waverley Tigers
only scored four points in the fourth quarter. Was really
a struggle as that in Union had a defense forced
some desperation on the side of the Tigers. For the Shermans,
Blake Coops led all scorers with sixteen ten each from
(01:28:15):
Caden Cutwright and Jackson Zikafous, nine each from KB Perkins
and Blake Fitch and Jack Welch with two points in
the fourth quarter as well. Uniodo outscored Waverley twelve to
six in the first quarter outscored him fifteen to eight
in the second quarter to take a twenty seven fourteen
halftime lead, and UNA outscores Waverley sixteen fourteen and the
(01:28:38):
third and took a forty three to twenty eight lead
into the fourth quarter, and then outscored the Tigers thirteen
to four in the final frame to win fifty six
to thirty two and punched their ticket to the regional tournament.
The regional semi final coming up here a week from
tonight six o'clock. Start here at the convo next Thursday,
(01:28:59):
and we'll have it for you here on WKKJ.
Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
Yeah, very impressive tournament run here by Uniodo. All three
games they have been able to score win pretty handily.
And again it's their defense. Defense, rebound wins championships, and
that's what they've been able to do here all tournament long.
It's a balance scoring. You know, you don't know who's
going to be the leading scorer in these games because
(01:29:25):
you've got so many weapons out there for this Uniodo team.
And in his first year and back at his alma Monter,
Matt Combs wins the district titles twenty two and three. Record.
That's impressive. Twenty two wins in a high school basketball
season is very impressive.
Speaker 2 (01:29:40):
No, you don't get to play much more than twenty
two even at this point in the tournament with some
extra games tacked on to the end. You know, we
always talk about mac Comb's first year back here at
his alma MATERO. It's not his first year coaching, don't
be fooled. Yeah, he's had some really good runs, big
time runs at Finton County previously being here and was
(01:30:06):
handed the keys to a program that was doing pretty
well under Matt Hoops, who's now just the football coach.
Turned over the keys and pretty good combo here Matt
Combs continuing and stepping up a little bit the Unioda
Sherman's basketball program as they want a district title here tonight.
And the players will head toward the ladders and start
(01:30:29):
to cut down the nets. I think they'll let the
cheerleaders cut down the other end, don't they.
Speaker 3 (01:30:33):
I don't see about that. And the cheerleaders are over
there behind the bench. They haven't motioned them down to
the other nets yet, but hopefully they do and they
get their little moment in the spotlights.
Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
Reminder that we are back on the air again tomorrow night.
Here from the Convos six to fifteen tip, same trace
looks to win a district title in Division five. They'll
take on the Minford Falcons at six fifteen, so evertime
I would imagine around six o'clock for Shane and Lou.
And then again Yun Yodo coming up next Thursday in
(01:31:09):
a regional semi final. Again, Johnstown and Buckeye Valley were
playing tonight and the winner of that game will play
River Valley on Sunday, and then the winner of that
game will play Uni Yodo next Thursday in that regional
semi final game. So the Shermans will have to wait
around until probably Sunday evening before they know who they
(01:31:30):
are going to play. But that's plenty of time to
get ready for a team going all the way until
Thursday before that game happens. So some of the injured
players that are unable to suit up getting their piece
of the net, and now the cheerleaders are making their
way down to cut down the debts as well. And Lou,
I don't know that we're going to get coach Combs.
(01:31:51):
We'll forgive him yeah, oh yeah, obviously a big night
for him and his team.
Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
Yeah, that's you know, this is a special moment. You
can never take it for Granted, I know coach Combs
has won some of these in the past, but again
everyone is special and you need to treat it that way.
And congratulations to him and the Uniodo Shermans on a
wonderful season so far. Best luck as they go into
(01:32:20):
the rigos. We are still undefeated with Unido. It's amazing.
I think that maybe we could, you know, ride that
all the way through to the state.
Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
That could be a fun time final score here tonight
in the district championship Unioto fifty six Waverley thirty two.
That I'll do it for us here tonight at the
convo for Sydney back in studio and my partner Loup Postage.
