Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is high school basketball on ninety four Country WKKJ. Now
let's hit the game site for today's pregame show on
ninety four Country.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Good evening everyone, and welcome inside Unioda High School.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
I'm Shane COLEMs alongside Louke Postage and you were listening
to the Hernstein Hyundai SBC Game of the Week on
ninety four Country WKKJ, and of course worldwide on iHeartRadio,
where tonight head coach Tyler Tassidy brings his perfect Pioneers
at seven and zero overall five and zero inside SBC
Play on the Road.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Making the short trip over here to Unioda where head
coach Matt Holmes and his Unioda Shermans sit four and
two overall four and one in the SBC, tied one
game back in second place here with west Fall and
you know, Lewis, I welcome you to the show. Obviously
we have quite a treat here for basketball junkies all
around the area. This is kind of Christmas a week
early here in terms of getting a chance to sit

(00:55):
here and do this tonight with it.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Sure is I mean a great match up here and
as a coach, this is a perfect time I have
a matchup like this because you had so much stuff
going on last day probably of school today before break.
You're you're playing a game that is very meaningful. You
get the kids attention, they're focused, perfect time for this.
You get a lot of people coming back into town

(01:18):
for the holidays. Nice crowd here tonight. This is perfect.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Well, let's start on the same trace side. You know,
they're very complete team. They're very impressive. You watch them
on film. I've watched them in person several times. Words
like versatility come to mind, efficiency come to mind. You'll
go run three four guys out there in the modern
day positionless basketball. You know, they can do a lot
of things on both ends. Put on your coaching tape

(01:43):
a little bit. Tell me what you like about this
pioneer team.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Well, again, I have not seen them in person. I
want to a little bit of tape. But I'm just
looking at their stats and I'm thinking they've only played
they've played seven games, and they have four guys that
have scored twenty points or more. And you know, sometimes
that's just one guy's going that in a game. But
when you can have that much versatility with your scoring.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
This is a team that doesn't average over sixty points
a game. Offensively, they're averaging like fifty six and you've
had four guys score twenty plus and you're still missing
one of your best players.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yeah, no question, And you go over to the Uniota
side and look top to bottom. This is a very
talented rollster. I know you've had a chance to see
them several times when they're on. They're good. Is plenty
good enough. I think probably their concern is where can
they find the consistency, Where can they make sure that
they're playing at the proper level each and every time out.
But again, I know you have spoken quite highly on

(02:39):
them when you've seen them play at their highest level.
What do you like about Uni yok?

Speaker 4 (02:42):
I really like the way I mean, they are deep.
They have guys that can come in the game spell
and they don't lose anything. They can shoot the ball
extremely well. They're a team that if they get started
at the beginning of the game on fire, it's going
to be a tough game for you. It's going to
be a long, uphill battle all game long. Now that
being said, they've had some games that they've struggled. I know,

(03:04):
I think the last well, no, I'm thinking last Friday.
I guess they went up to West Fall tough plays
to play and struggled a little bit. But they can
really score. I mean they've scored sixty plus points every
game and they've been in the seventies a couple of times.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
So this is a team that can score.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
I think where it comes to them is can they
get the consistency on the defensive end. They're really good defensively,
They're lengthy defensively, and when they can really put the
clamps down on people, that's when they're really going to
be tough. It's gonna be good stuff and it's gonna
be a great matchup. After the break that Lou and
I were turned to talk about that matchup. You're listening

(03:43):
to Hernstein hun Day SBC Game of the Week on
ninety four Country Wkkjack.

To high School Shane Holds loop postage and continue with
our pre game coverage. Is Jane Trace has made the
short trip over here to Unioda for what should be
a great SBC showdown, And you know lu An app
first segment, you're telling us what you liked about both teams. Now,
let's kind of put it together. This matchup has got
a lot of fun one on one matchups, a lot

(05:08):
of good team strategy types of things to break. Nowl
maybe give me a couple of keys on both sides
that jump out at you tonight.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
I think here for Zane Trades, it's gonna be how
well can they rebound? You know, because Uniodo's gonna shoot
a lot of threes, they cannot give you Nyoto second
chance opportunities. So how well are they going to be
able to rebound against this Uniyodo team, a team that.

Speaker 5 (05:31):
Can rebound extremely well on their end.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
So that's what I'm gonna look at as far as
Zane Trace goes for U Niyoto, are they going to
be able to guard all these different weapons?

Speaker 5 (05:43):
You know?

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Are they going to recognize and make the adjustments from
offensively for you know what Zane Trace does offensively. So again,
I think those are the big keys here. But you know,
controlling your emotions, big game earth the year. Uh, some
of these kids haven't played varsityball. I mean some of

(06:05):
these software for Unioda. This is going to be the
biggest game they've played in so far. How are they
going to handle this? Zane Trace has a lot of
guys that's played a lot of games here, so I
think they're they're going to be okay there, but it'll
be interesting to see how some of the bench players
for UNIOD to handle what's going on.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Well, let's talk about that. Let me ask you about
role players playing at home versus playing on the road.
You know, I mean the Yeah, I guess the simple
answer would be comfort. You know, you're a little bit
more familiar surroundings. You know, the home crowd. I mean,
is it as simple as that or I mean throughout
my career, I know I've seen I know you have too.
Can can you put can you can you frame that
for the for the listeners at all to make sense

(06:41):
of that.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Yeah, it's it's like you just said, comfort, It's all
about comfort. It didn't matter what jim I was in.
I was comfortable on the basketball for regardless. Yeah, the
crowd is going to play a role. But again, I
was one of those guys I could just put the
crowd out of my mind. As a coach, I never
knew what the crowd was going and what was being said.
Uh So, you know it's tough for a kid though,

(07:04):
especially a kid who's maybe fourteen fifteen years old, because
of all the atmosphere.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
But this is, I mean, this is what high school
basketball is all about.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
You should love to be in this situation, you should
love to come out here and play in a game
like this.

Speaker 5 (07:17):
But again, it is gonna be a factor.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Road versus home. Unioda's played well at home. I mean,
there's no doubt about it. They've struggled on the road.
Zaint Trace seems like wherever they plays home Neutrals say whatever,
they're okay.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
So I think that comes with experience.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
When I think got defense and efficiency and versus til
I talked about that travels though, you know, I mean
it really doesn't, you know, I look at these two teams.
The difference in the SBC standings iss Zane Trace was
able to go to Westfall win forty four to forty one.
Unioda went there lost sixty one fifty eight. I believe
it was. And in some of the difference in those
two games is the tempo the two teams like to play.

(07:58):
But the other thing that jumped out at me was
execution time and score and so forth. Early in the
year as a coach, you know, you're trying to put
different things. Both both of these guys are in the
first years at these respective schools. Early in the year.
Some of those situational basketball they are those some of
the things that get overlooked. And now as a coach,
as you start to get we're al much to the
one third mark here in the season, and you feel
like you can clean those up through some film work.

(08:19):
How important can situational basketball being these big games?

Speaker 5 (08:22):
I think film work.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
I mean back in the day, I didn't do a
lot of film work with kids, just because we didn't
have what we they have today. But film work and
situation in practice. You got to set up some situations
in practice to where they are. But you can never
you know, I mean, it's always better to have it
in a game and being in game situations and how

(08:44):
you react and learn from those reactions. And as you said,
you use a film for that. You show the kid,
here's what happened, here's what we need to do. Let's
try to make that correction next time out. You know,
it's I think right now, it comes down to the experience.
Zane Trace has a lot of experienced guys, and if

(09:04):
this game gets in the sixties, it's going to favor
you Uni. Ether, if this game's in the fifties is
going to definitely favor Zaint Trace.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
So we'll see which way it goes well again, good stuff.
Look forward to breaking it all down for you again.
We're coming up on about a minute. We're going to
take one more time out, Lou and I'll be back

Cut Welcome back inside Junior to high school coming up
on the starting lineups here, So let's go to the
starting lineups with them on the same trace side. In
the back court for Coach Cassidy, Senior Ezra Rippeth will
be joined by senior Landon Robinson. Then with the three

(12:49):
forward lineup, you'll have Grady Stewart a junior, Noah Houston
a senior, and gunner mccaulough a junior. So one more
time for Coach cast he'll run it out. Stuart Houston, Rippeth,
Robertson and mccaulough over on the Uniota side pretty much
play a little positional lineup of their own with with

(13:11):
about a three four guard lineup. Most of the night
out on the perimeter, Senior Blake Hoops will be at
a guard possession. Junior Blake Fitch will do most of
the point guard duties for the For the tanks, Senior
Caden Cutwright, Junior Jackson Zickafoos and in the post leave

(13:32):
back for some sickness earlier in the week, we expecting
Kadie Perkins to return to the lineup, so again one
more time for coach Combs, it's Hoops, Perkins, Fitch cut right,
Zickafoos and lou you know you hear those names, and
I mean he has got talent glare all over the
lineup there. There's some great matchups that I'm anxious to

(13:53):
see how both coaches go ahead and and and and
match up right off of the tip here because I
think that's where some of the matchup but mismatches are
gonna come from, and that's what's gonna dictate where where
the offenses go.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Yeah, and to me, the interesting matchup will be uh
Unioda's defense. How are they going to match up on
Zane Trace? Who is KP Perkins glounder Garden? Is he
gonna be able to come out and guard somebody in
the perimeter because a lot of these Zane Trace guys
can attack it from the outside, uh and also go inside.

(14:25):
So it'll be interesting to see that matchup. And then also,
you know, will you Uniota have some pressure on Zane
Trace or Zane Trace being experienced enough, do you not
waste that full core pressure early in the game.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Well. And I also think it's interesting when when you
take a kid like I'm appall in the post, when
you take the versatility of a Robinson, you might you
might be matching up with them thinking one thing, and
Zane Trace can really flip the strip on you the
other way. Same way with Uniota, they can really spread
you out. And not a lot of people have that
third and fourth guy off the dribble to contain to

(14:59):
d The one thing that's interesting from a coaching perspective
in today's modern day offense is you see so much
more spread You see so much more dribbling. As I
watch the same Trace team, they get they get better
player movement and more screening than a lot of teams.
How difficult it is that sometimes when when we think
of some of our old school coaching, when guarding a
screen was an every night in practice type thing, that's

(15:21):
not as common as that. So it is a little
bit of a different situation when you when you prepare
a little bit for each matchup.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
Yeah, if you don't have teams that do that very
much anymore, and when you go against the team, you've
got to spend some time in practice to do that.
You know, they're coming off a game that they played
on Tuesday, really only had one solid night of practice
maybe on Wednesday, and then go over some stuff again
on Thursday. So again, uh, it's it's going to be

(15:47):
interesting to see. And the other thing you were talking
about coaching both these guys, this is their first time
coaching in this rivalry, and when you look at the SBC,
Uniodo's a trade that's a big ribbery. Now we know Combs,
he's been coaching in a lot of games, so I
mean he's very experienced, but again, first time for him,
he's played in the rivalry. He hasn't coached the same

(16:07):
thing with Tyler Cassidy.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
So they're coming up here on the starting lineups now
for Uniota, they turn the lights out and the students
up offer some lights over there on the other side
of great atmosphere, as you'd expect, pretty much standing room only.
Lou we're lucky enough to have one of the best
seats in the house. You know. The other thing in
my pre game notes, I always think it's important in
big games is the ability to adjust how it's halt. Here,

(16:30):
Jane Trace will go about sixteenth. They can spot a
seventh eight. We talked about UNIODA will play ten guys
not all equal. They don't play ten. It's important for
coaches and kids to adjust officiating early.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Yeah, And what I've seen so far this year, I
thought the officiating has been very good. You know, they've
left the kids play to a point to not get
out of control. But I've thought that has been a
really good job here by the referees I've seen so far.
So it looks like we're going to start off here
with the technical foul for some reason. Uh, I don't
know if somebody put something in their books wrong. It

(17:03):
looks like coach Combs is a maybe upset it himself
over there. Uh, but uh, we're gonna get a Zane
Trace uh free throws.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
And it looks like Robinson will step up and first
free throw. Good. I had this. I had. This happened
the other night in the Chili Cootie Hillsborough game. I
was calling Chilicothie got caught dunking and warm ups. But
again I'm not saying that's what happened here. I just
that that was It's unique, but a couple of games
here inside a week. The second free throw off to
the front rim because they had and rims in. Sir

(17:33):
Jane Trace not only will jump out too so nothing,
but they'll also take possession here on the side out
of bounds.

Speaker 4 (17:39):
Yeah, so big big play here to start to that
that that Frow that was very kind role there for
him to get that one to go in.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Here we go for our first live action of the night.
Robinson across the timeline, comes right side to Houston, out
top of Macaula to look to swing at left side
rip of Jane Trace. Run a little shuffle action there
at the elbow. Pretty well defended by Uniota Stewart on
the drive cut off by cut right. Jame Trace will
look to reset Stewart all the way out tied left

(18:10):
side at Houston, He'll look to drive into the middle.
Kicks it back now into a hard drive. Pretty good
defense by Fitch. They're not allowing the ball for thirty
seconds in so far. Pretty good half court defense in the.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Sharman Yeah, and KB Perkins Garden gunner mccallough there at
the high post.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
McCaul It goes one on one against Perkin's pretty good
job of walling up shot. No good outcomes Fitch. He
throws it ahead to Zika fous shot up. No good
fight for the rebound, and I think we're gonna have
our first file of the game. I think they got
Blake Fitch on the rebound.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Yeah, that was a great transition there by Uniodo and
just couldn't get the ball in the basket. And again
big rebound there by Zaanan Krees. They were able to
get the ball and not allow Unioda a second chance
at it.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Unioda a little token man. They'll clear it out now.
Robertson will bring it up. One on one. Jane Trace,
I'm calling this Jane Trace, moving my left to right
and Unioda back to my right to left. Robinson on
the right wing. It's a flare screen over the Stewart
shot fake into the middle. Now it's back to Houston again.
Unioda doing a pretty good job of protecting the paint.

(19:16):
Jane Trace as usual, very patient. Now let's do it
on the pull up jumper from yelbow. No good. Perkins
tips the ball up. Now it's loose.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
Rip it.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
The Jane Trace comes out of it and he throws
it away. Out comes hoops of Uniota, Fitchell look to
push it less. Corner three it's going to be cut
light off the side of the back Foord, no good rebound.
Zane trades where just a minute and a half ends.
Jane Trace leads it to nothing on the two technical
free throws that started the Knight's plug.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
There's a lot of action here early, just no buckets.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Robinson off a ball screen there from a call. Now
it's right corner Houston and he knocks down the mid
range jumper going up in Zane Trace.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
Very nice job there of penetration, passing off and being
ready to shoot the ball once you receive it.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Got right in hoops, play a little passing catch up top.
Now a hand off the Fitch. He goes hard in
the middle, kicks it right corners. Zickafuse will try it
three and he got it. Juniota on the board. Now
touches Dame Trace lead to one, four to three.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
That's what Blake Fitch does. He does a great job
of getting it to the open guy where they can
catch it and shoot it right away.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Stewart off a high ball string from mccaulla. He'ps play
down hill all the way to the rim. Mccaulla follows
it up and he lays it in off the miss
lay up six to three. He's aye Trace five and
a half minutes first quarter back comes Fitch in a
hurry and we'll stop him, go move and he lays
it in. Blake Fitch, your junior guard cuts into the
league six fives. Ain't trays.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
Yeah, going back to that z ain't Trey's bucket. KB
Perkins had to switch off and that just left Gunner
mccallar wide open to follow in and get that rebound.

Speaker 5 (20:52):
Tipping Stewart left side.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
Robinson will try it three two strong outcomes hoops with
the rebound. Bitch will look the push again. Ball knocked
out a bounds by riff of for Xan Trace will
be unioda ball on the side. When of our first
substitution of the night, it looks like we got long
for Perkins, and we wondered about Perkins minutes. Remember he
was sick all week and not play in the Huntington game.
I don't believe he's practiced the last two nights either.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
And with the pace at this game has been in
early on, that's got to be tough on him because
you know you're sick all week, probably having eaten well
all week and probably not hydrated well all week.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Fitch all for a ball screen from long, but before
we even got to that point on the cut, I
think we hadded away from the ball foul on Zane
Trace didn't see the numbers signal back. I think they
got Lacala.

Speaker 5 (21:40):
That's his first.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Sob under. Nice little step for Unioda. Blake Hoops comes
all alone and just missed the layup. He did get
it back, missed another one, how' Zane Trace out of
the rebound gold an opportunity for Juniota.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
Three shots inside two feet there that they've missed tonight.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Stewart throws it away, out comes Hoops. Hoops'll pull up
from around the free throw line. Ball bounces around two
or three times shot, no good rebound Robinson Robertson'll bring
it up against Zick of Fous back door play to Houston.
Pretty good health defense from Fich. Jane Trace throws it
away again, out comes Fich. He drives all the way

(22:20):
to the rim, way up, no good and again you
said it loud Uni. Others had the ball at the
rim and walk four times now and unable to convert.

Speaker 5 (22:27):
Yeah, and their team if they can get off to
a hard stock hot start like that.

Speaker 4 (22:32):
Now you add six or seven points onto their score.
They're really getting things rolling, but right now having a
tough time getting the ball to go through the hoop.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Six fives they ain't trace back the other way. It's
Houston from the right wing. He'll let a three ball
fly and it's good. Nine to five. Jame trace Houston
with five here in the early going.

Speaker 5 (22:52):
Yeah, that's a consistency. They shoot the ball really consistent.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Pitch off a high ball string from long they'll pitch
at the hoops. He'll get to his strong hand, which
is the left hand, get all the way to the
rim and lay it in. Nine Seven's ain't trace three
forty seven first quarter.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
Yeah, he's really strong going there that way. And again
that's a scouting report issue.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
Ripper tries to deep three McCall on the offensive rebound
and puts it back in great effort from gunner mccaullough.
Eleven Seven's ain't trace.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
Man again, it's the rebounding right now. Two offensive rebounds
by gunner McCullough.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
It brings it back across the timeline for Unioda enters
elbow to hoops, crows it up top zickafous, He'll drive
into the middle, shot up no good. Mccalla's ain Trace
or the rebound. Robinson'll bring it up again. Ball pressure
from Zickafoos. It's left point there to mccaullough. Now swing

(23:50):
it all the way over right side. It's Robinson swings
it on the skip past the ripper corner to Houston,
comes off of ball screen. It's pretty good talking coverage
there from Unigota. Cutwright takes it away up top. He
breaks out, he's all alone and he lays it in Kyden.
Cutwright turns defense into the offense, and Jane TRACE's lead

(24:11):
has cut to two eleven to nine.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
He does a really good job of that, getting a
lot of hands on basketballs and getting poke away, and
that way he was able to get.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
All the way to the other end.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Robertson looking inside of the call a nice front from
long he takes it away and then on the loose
ball away. Excuse me, as Cutright had the ball there.
I think he was fouled by Did you get Stewart
in the backcourt?

Speaker 5 (24:34):
That is on, yes, Stewart in the back court.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
We're gonna get a quick dime out here by Zane
Tracey gonna be a full time up, well.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Full time out. We'll take it with him, Zane Trace eleven.
You had a nine two twenty eight first quarter. You're

but his nose said, hey, freshest sent. Ever, following his nose,
Jim found the man pouring the bottle of Gain Sent

(25:15):
your scent Maroccas smell amazing. Actually, Jim, most noses call
them gain Sent beads. Try Gain Scent beads way fresher
than detergents alone.

Speaker 14 (25:27):

Speaker 2 (25:54):
Cut on the back Unioda High School Shane colms Lou postage.
We returned to action with the Unioda in possession of
the basketball. Fitch brings it across the timeline because left
side Welch who just entered the game. Once you go
inside to Fitch now in the middle post, Fitch gets

(26:14):
it back. He's gonna look to play one on one.
It's a little fade away jumper, no good fight for
the loose ball. Uniota says it back and bounds and
McAll and Zane Trace comes out with him. Now it's
very Zane Trace, who also checked in there at the
time out. It's left side three ripping, no good redown
hoops of Uniota. Hoops will look to push little stop

(26:34):
and go move spins in the middle, swings it left
cornered along for three and you got it. I set
up from hoops along their corner three. Uniota at the
its first lead of the night, twelve to eleven, one
forty four to play first quarter.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
Yeah, Long said, you're gonna leave me that wide open.
I'm gonna shoot that and that was a good job.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Robinson gets it back off of flare screen, kicks it
up top at Stewart Stewart download him a call. Great
save when good athletic play there gets out of Robittson
and another defensive rebound on the miss. Three for hoops,
hoops one more time will push. He thought about a
three up to Fitch to the top shot fake drives
a hole and again Uniota not taking advantage of the basket.

(27:16):
See if ain't Trace can capitalize in transition. Ripper comes
out with it. He drives all the way to the hole,
shot up and good. Played through some contact there and
still able to get the shot to go. Zane trace
backa in front thirteen twelve. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
Big difference here is z Ain't trade has been able
to make those easy ones inside and right now I
got you knew it it with about five of those
point blank misses.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Pitch pitches the hoops. He'll shoot a step back three
no good, long fighting for the offensive rebound, ball comes loose,
out comes Robinson of Zane trades kicks it ahead to
Stewart Stewart cross court. Berry thought about a three and
I will drive jumps it off into Macaula mcaulaugh right
in the middle of the paint, looks to go one
on one against long shot up off the glass.

Speaker 5 (28:00):
No good.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
Rippleth comes out with a loose ball, his shot no good,
and coy of Uniota with the rebound, and we had
a whistle there. I think we had a file. Did
they get Rippleth on the offensive rebound?

Speaker 5 (28:15):
I didn't see a number five, so yes, Rippeth.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
So thirteen twelve, Zane Tracy front twenty five point seven
here in the first quarter. Let's see if Unioda we
talk time and score in the pregame. There, let's see
if you Needoda can execute a situation here and hold
for the last shot. Hard to do against his Aane
Trace ball pressure. Sometimes Unioda in a one to four
high set comes off of ball screen. Fitch offered, hoops,

(28:43):
how it's going to be welch up top for three?
This three point are too strong. Stewart comes out two
seconds to shoot Robinson from half court and it's just ball. Well,
we played one. Dane Trace thirteen Uniota twelve. Stay with
us and we'll be back with second co interaction. You're listening,

Card, Welcome back Inside Union of the High School, Shane
Holmes and Loop, Hostage and lou Just as we expected,
a nice back and forth, a lot of action. Pack
thirteen twelves, ain't Trace leads. What's the numbers? Tell us
there at the end of the first.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
Quarter, Well, Uniodo shot five of fifteen thirty three percent,
two of four from beyond the arc, and they did
not have a turnover in that first half. By my recollector,
Zane Trace had five turnovers. There were five of fourteen
shooting thirty six percent, one for five from beyond the arc.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Union. It'll take possession here. On the first play, Perkin
for turns the lineup. They run a little set, throw
it into him on the block and he goes one
on one. He'll score and drawl the foul and he'll
go to the line of the chance for the old fashioned.

Speaker 4 (30:54):
THI yeah, A lot of times, I think out of
quarters and out of timeouts, A lot of times they
run that play to get kV. Perkins shot inside and
there he was able to finish it and get an
opportunity for.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
He throw up no good rebound Robinson of Zane Trace.
Robinson's versatility again we talked about it runs the point
in most situations for Zaane Trace goes right side, McCallum
up top Ripper. Now Robinson on the right side. He'll
drive baseline, little float up over the top. Nicely done.

(31:27):
Landon Robinson puts Zame Trace back in front fourteen or
ecusany fifteen fourteen.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
He's such a smooth player, never seems to be rattled
by anything, and he's got strength at the guard position.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Fits up top the Perkins, over to Patterson, who's now
in the game. They'll throw it down inside the Perkins
and looked like Ripper just went in and ended up
taking it away. I think Uni ever is going to
get a favorable whistle here. I thought Ezra had all
ball when he ripped it away.

Speaker 5 (31:56):
Yeah, that looked pretty good to me.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
And the fact that the more concerning thing that Zain
trench should be the fact that he was wide open underneath.
They had a miscommunication there defensively, and they're very lucky
that he wasn't able to get that shot up.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Houston returns there for Stewart and now with the foul trouble,
I think that was rip a second five. Yeah, so
they're gonna go a little deeper into their bench. Here
Sebastian Ray junior forward checks in for the first time.

Speaker 5 (32:24):
Now they kept for rip within the game and took
out McCullough.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Oh, you're right. So Patterson there at the elbow, off
the ob under. Now Perkins eyes it out top left
side at spitch. He'll make a one on one move,
a spin, pull up jumper, too strong, hustle to both
the guys in the sideline. You the other comes out
with the loose ball. Now it's inside. Perkins in the post,
goes off his left shoulder and scores it over the

(32:50):
time Uniota back in front. Sixteen fifteen. We have six
forty left in the first half.

Speaker 4 (32:55):
Yeah, we were just mentioning there when Perkins came out
of the game the first quarter, how he really struggled there.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
But now he's come back. He got some maybe some
hydration in him, and he looks good.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
Jane Trace just weaves it up top. Now Robinson will
come out and call for a ball screen, who actually
reject the ball screen has pulled up, jumped off the
left hand ribble bounces up off the rim a couple times,
and I think they they said it topped the the
the top of the back forward there.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
It got that little uh ribbon or whateverthing there that
goes up to the I don't even know what that
is for, to tell you the truth out of all.

Speaker 4 (33:29):
Yeah, well, I mean, got a lot of cables and
stuff up there, and then there's this little ribbon.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
That looks like Zane Trace is going to show zone
for the first time as Fitch walks it across the
timeline looks like a two three with Ray right in
the middle there, taking up a lot of space in
the paint. Fitch up top cut right, Zicka Fouse right side,
looks inside. Wanted Patterson not there now Patterson will pop

(33:56):
back out for the perimeter. It'll just take guards on
the pass a lot of times and into the middle
trying to hit that high post. They force it down
load of Perkins knocked away. Out comes Zickafous with a
loose baud. He drives and lays it in pretty good
defense for riginaling you to get to the flection for
Zane Trace, Lou but then Zickafouse white man right spot.

Speaker 4 (34:14):
Yeah, Unfortunately they were now ready roaming Berry wasn't ready
to get that ball because he was so focused on
guarding somebody else.

Speaker 5 (34:21):
Now, a little nothing stealing here by cut Right.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Very up top. His pass ll over pitted off by
cut Right and takes it to the other end and
lays it in, you know, with its biggest lead of
the night was tive twenty eight to fifteen. Coach Cassidy
gonna talk it over here, time out five to nineteen.
That's a short ones. Let's stay here a little bit
here in the second quarter, we're starting to see some
of the benches, both coaches being going, maybe some in

(34:46):
normal rotation, some forced the foule trouble. I thought a
couple of the early files on Zane Trace.

Speaker 5 (34:51):
Really worked against him a little bit, and it didn't
see there the right away he has put Rippeth and
McCullough back in the game.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
Yeah, the bench of Unieheta has done a great job.
But you see, if freshman Patterson's in the game, the
two sophomores we're in the game as well. So the
coach comes getting his rotation all in the game, so
they can sort of settle in. Now, a nice little
quick run here by Unioda to get a five point lead.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
What I thought you highlighted well in the pre game.
How I don't want to say easier, because you know,
playing varsity basketball fresh told one was gonna need it,
But it's certainly easier for the role player at home,
just in a comfortable environment and so forth. I think
you've seen that a little bit here yep. Coming out
of the time out, it'll be Jane Trace ball full
winth to the court. They'll get it into Stewart Uneata

(35:38):
will show a little token man and then as they
clear it out, it'll be one on one Robinson against
Zicka Foos. Robinson boxing with a good size enters high
here to Macaula who who hands it off to rip it.
He'll play hard downhill the right hand. Patterson cuts him
off pretty well. How Rippers will go to the baseline
and again we're gonna have a hand check here from Patterson.
Pretty good one on one match up. Then Patterson just

(36:00):
got a little hands he there on the second drat.

Speaker 4 (36:02):
Yeah, they thought Ripe sort of carried the ball because
the ball did come up high, but again he kept
his hand on top.

Speaker 5 (36:09):
And then they get the freshman with the hands.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
A little bit more zone. Look on the obi under
and they actually cut right, knocks it away. Cutwright's been
really active defensively here in the early going. Out comes
Patterson of Uniota with it left side, cut right. He
drives hard to the right hand, kicks it to the corner.
That's Hoops. Hoops with a nice little underhand dish as
he's drunk was driving the baseline. Perkins did a good

(36:35):
job of making himself available right in front of the rim.
Nice look from Hoops to Perkins. He couldn't get the
shop to go, lou, but he's going to go to
the line shoot a couple of freefers.

Speaker 5 (36:43):
Yeah, Perkins did a great job. Instead of staying on
the backside at the block, he made himself available in
the middle of the lane.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
A lot more room to work with. First free throw
is good. Perkins had been in the line earlier on
the chance for the old fashioned free He missed that one,
but this time his first free throw good. Twenty one
fifteen Uniota KB will get another one. That free throw
also good for the senior lefty. Twenty two to fifteen.

(37:10):
We're four forty three to halftime. Now comes Barry. If
Jane Trace pushes it up against Patterson. He goes right side.
It's Houston. Houston guarded by Hoops. Hoops reaches in. The
official says he's gonna get all ball and they're gonna
have a tie up situation. The arrow is gonna favor
the Pioneer, so we'll stay on this end. Say trace

(37:30):
side out of bounds. kV.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
Perkins has six points this quarter, six of the Unioto ten.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
Barry, the unbelled man, throws at the macalla right in
front of him, and he'll hand it right back to
the guard Barry. Barry will cross over dribble now right corner.
Houston will try a three, no good long rebound. Zicka
Foost of Uniota runs it down. They'll bring it across
the timeline himself goes left side. It's the wing three

(37:59):
for who oops, no good rebound by Perkins. He goes
up and it's just basically taken away by Robins. A
nice job defensively outcomes Houston, and he tried to throw
a bounce pass into mccallaugh and again cut right knocks
it out of bound. So it will be Zame trace
ball on the Obie unders.

Speaker 5 (38:16):
Say what cut right?

Speaker 4 (38:17):
We saw it on the football field and the defensive back.
He just said the nose for the ball. Same thing
here on the basketball floors. He gets a lot of
hands on the balls and he's able to just use
his hustles to get back into plays and see KB
Perkins go out of the game exhausted against.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
Obi Under They run Robinson too the corner on a
nice set, good execution. The ball did everything but go
down rebound Uniota Mitchell, look the push, We'll stop and
go inside out. Dribble gets to the rim, no good,
put back, no good. He gets at a third time.
Now he goes back up. Still no good out comes
Stewart of Zame Trace with the rebounds.

Speaker 4 (38:55):
Tell you what he's had about three or four of
those inside. He just hasn't been able to get fall
Zane Trace is one of seven from beyond the arc
so far in this game.

Speaker 2 (39:06):
Barry was handling it way outside on the white wing
and Zickafoose with the reach in gonna get called for
the fallots his first team's second here of the second quarter,
as Robinson throws it in bounds and then has Barry
but give it back to him. With Dawson Mitchell now
into the game for Uniota Unioda will go to the

(39:27):
two three zone as a corner three from Stewart.

Speaker 9 (39:29):
No good.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
Blake Coops continues to do a good job on the
defensive class. He comes one on one, will stop and go,
He'll pull up the free throw line.

Speaker 5 (39:38):
No good.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Houston is ain trac with the rebound. Twenty two fifteen
Uniota leads three minutes until halftime. Again Unioda into the
two three zone. Houston high post drops a beautiful bounce
pass inside in the falla and he lays it right
over top to the rim. Well done by Zamee Trade.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
I love the way they used to bounce pass a lot.
Zane Tracy done a great job of that.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Twenty two to seventeen Uniota. Now Zane Trace is turned
to go a little zone. I think both coaches trying
to fight some foul trouble in matchups. Here, Fit's holding
it out top now two thirty nine, he turns the coach.
Poems gets the set. Now he comes off a ball
screen because Mitchell screams the zone cut right left side three,
No good, good job, I'm a call on a strong rebound,

(40:22):
gives it away to Robinson. Zane Trace looking to cut
into the twenty two to seventeen Uniota advantage to twenty two.
And again Barry caught it on the left wing and
got the feet just a little happy there on the
on the pivot foot, and they called him for a traveler,
and I think.

Speaker 5 (40:36):
This is little uncharacteristic of Zaane Trace.

Speaker 4 (40:40):
They now have eight turnovers on the first half here
and again one for eight, shooting him from beyond the.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
Arc, no question. We talked about the efficiency they play
with and again playing on the road, playing playing at
a game that even at twenty two seventeen's had quite
a pace to it. Zickafus left side up top cut
right into the middle of hoops. Now with the left corner,
Zickafous and against the zone here you need to look
and to swing it side to side. Alex Zicka Fou

(41:07):
stand at the high post back out hoops. Thought about
the three swings it all the way to the right corner.
It's Fitch. He draws two and then he throws it away.
Judah Hanks, who just checked in for the Pioneers with
the steel push it up right side. It's Noah Houston,
his little runner into the middle of paint.

Speaker 5 (41:23):
No good.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
Mitchell fighting for the loose ball about tipped it in
for Zane Trace. Now Houston gets and he lays it
in and gets fouled. Just a great effort from Noah
Houston just staying with him and he's gonna get a
chance to go to line for three.

Speaker 5 (41:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (41:37):
Initially though it was Gunner mccallugh that kept up all
live for Zane Trade so that Houston could go in there.
But again, like you said, great job is staying with it.
And again that last one just barely made it over
in front of the rim. Something about that room right there,
it's really soft there in the front.

Speaker 2 (41:55):
Twenty two to nineteen uni Ot on top. Houston will
get one free pro it's no good. Strong rebounding from
Pertham so Juniota three point lead and the basketball one
thirty until halftime. Cut right left corner shot faked, got
himself into a trap. Dave Trace comes out with a steal,
throw it out over the top. It's going to be

(42:16):
Hanks all alone as Ziffer Frus chases and Hank slays
it down. Twenty two twenty one. They traced out with
him one and Coach Holmes is gonna call a time
out and again it's a short one. We'll stay here,
talk us through Zain't TRACE's momentum switch here, Lou, what
do you like in the last ninety seconds or so
where a seven point lead has become a one point lead?

Speaker 4 (42:36):
And again it's one of those things where this is
a team that doesn't get rattled. I thought, right there,
great job there by Landon Robinson. He's the one that
got on the floor there and instead of really just
throwing the ball all over the place, he took his time,
got it to a spot where they could get that
transition bucket. Really, really this team Gunner McCullough in the

(42:57):
previous kept the ball alive for them to be able
to score there. Landon Robinson really impressed by the way
this team does not get rattled.

Speaker 5 (43:05):
Haven't shot the ball? Great have some turnovers, but not rattle.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
Well with a with a minute twenty, we're back in
one of those situational that we talked about in the
pregame too. This is where great teams really dominate these
situations here, coming out of a timeout, a one point
basketball game, both teams they seem maybe a little bit
of bout trouble here or there. Certainly I think more
of the depth issue is just because of the of
the crazy pace, both both coaches trying to play, you know,

(43:31):
eight to nine guys, and we'll see how that's going
to play into the second half.

Speaker 4 (43:35):
So if we stay in the zone here, watch for
maybe hoops going baseline here four to three. You may
go from one side all the way to the other
and maybe hit a three. And it looks like coach
Combs is fine with just waiting and playing to the
last shot.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
Well, it's it's coming up on one minute to play.
Z ain't. Trace is sitting in zone. Fitch is holding
it out at the at the logo, just shy at
hilf court. Trace kind of deciding a little bit. They
might walk out there a little bit. Still no counto.
We're down to fifty seconds.

Speaker 4 (44:06):
And again this is one of those things I don't know,
you know, does this really play into your team's favor
if your uni oor, your team likes to get up
and down and do a lot of quick shots, a
lot of movement, and here you are standing around attacking
a zone. Is what you're attacking here, so be interesting.

Speaker 5 (44:23):
But watch for hoots coming off of a backside corner
for a three.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
Now at twenty five seconds, Zane Trace does match up
out top the Welch back to Fish nineteen to shoot.
Now it's Welch left side, back out to Fitch thirteen twelve.
Now Fitch houls out a second Unioda will look to
go now Welch. Here comes Zicka foose to the corner.
He's gonna try a three ball, no good rebound, Zame Trace.

(44:55):
They throw it out and that's gonna be the end
of the first half. Wait sixteen minutes Uniota twenty two,
Jane traced twenty one. Stay with the Shang kng'sy posted
to be back to recap the first half. You're listening

Health and Welcome Back hearnsigin Hondai sec Game of the
Week You Know in ninety four Country WKK Day, Shane
Combs Lou posted with you here live from Uniota High
School and dead Lou we looked back here at the
first half as Unioda leads at twenty two to twenty one.

(49:27):
Zane Trace started kind of a unique start with remember
the technical We still don't know exactly what happened there,
but Robinson and Zane Trace went to the line hit
The first two teams kind of played a back in
the first fourth quarter. Uniota took at the first lead
of the night at twelve eleven. Jane Trace led at
thirteen to twelve after one frame in the second quarter,
Uniota thought started to get some good minutes from the depth,

(49:48):
some of the depth that had given Pershams a chance.
The rest I thought allowed him to come back in
the game. I thought that was some of his best
minutes of the night. Did right at the beginning of
the second quarter. Uniota eventually would lead it twenty two
to fifteen. But then as you highlighted, Zane Trace just
kind of a real mature approach, kind of with stands
it a little bit, gets back within one twenty two

(50:09):
twenty one. Uniota's played ten guys on the night, Nan
Trace has played eight. Both coaches have to feel like
they're getting a lot of production up and down. Kind
of give me your thoughts in the first half.

Speaker 4 (50:18):
Well, I think at first half, if you look at
the score, the score sort of siding with Zane Trace.
They won a lower scoring game, but the pace itself
is up and down. We got Zane Trace with eight
turnovers Union only Uniota only has two turnovers in first half.
But again, that first half pace was pretty good, and

(50:38):
we saw that effect Perkins a little bit. He was
able to have some quality minutes when he was in there.
But he is a kid who's going to have to
play and they're gonna have to do a better job
there in the second second half with his minutes, because
you could noticeably see when he went out of the game,
they had trouble rebounding the basketball and keeping Zane Trace
from having those second chance opportunity. So that'll be something

(51:01):
watching the second half, But again both teams not shooting
extremely well. You look at Unioda, they're nine of twenty
six thirty five percent, only two of seven from beyond
the arc, whereas Zaint Traces nine of twenty three for
thirty nine percent, but they're only one of eight from
beyond the arc.

Speaker 5 (51:19):
So both team's not shooting well from long range. And
I think in the second half that's going to be
a big difference.

Speaker 4 (51:25):
We'll see what team comes out, maybe shoots ball better
in the second half and maybe get on the run.
As you said, Unioda had a seven point lead, that
was the biggest lead in the first half. I think
if a team is able to get on the run
here coming out in the third quarter, that'll go a
long way and telling how this game goes.

Speaker 2 (51:43):
And I think I think on both sides you got
to credit the defense for some of that lower shooting.
I think the efforts been at a high level here
in a great atmosphere, as we expected. I guess in
my notes here I marked down there. Listening to you talk,
it's a most like we're on the same page here.
If your Zane Trace should go win, you're not crazy
about the what you say eight turnolds. That's not who

(52:03):
you are. Certainly don't want to come out and turn
it over sixteen times here tonight, So they want to
cut into that. If you're Uniota, I would think you
like some of the looks you had, but I know
you highlighted in the early going. Man, they had what
five six opportunities at the HM. Give zan TRACE's length
a little bit of credit for changing shots, but again,
Juniotte's got to feel like they.

Speaker 5 (52:20):
Lost some points on the ball, oh, without a doubt,
and they cannot do that.

Speaker 4 (52:23):
I mean, you get the bone, you make some nice
moves and get it inside like Fitch has been able
to do. You know, he's had four or five shots
that just haven't fallen for him, and they probably hadn't
six or seven that haven't fallen inside as well. But
you know that comes with worrying about where the defense
is and stuff like that. And you know, both these
teams play great defense. That's why they are where they are,

(52:46):
That's why they have the records they have. And I'll
tell you what, that was a heck of a first half,
but I enjoyed.

Speaker 2 (52:52):
It well out standing, and we expect the second half
to be more of the same. We're coming up on
about two minutes to hear. Before the half, We're gonna
step away just for a short time out. We'll come
back with some third quarter keys and be ready to
call the third quarter action for you again. Uniota twenty two,
Ze Trace twenty one. You're listening to Hernstein Hondai SBC

Welcome back on the hernside. Honday, SBC Game of the
Week here on ninety four Country WKKJ Shane Holmes lou
postage live here at Uniota High School and Lows would
come up on a minute to the third quarter action
to get under the way Uniota twenty Tuesday, Trace twenty
one again put on that coaching tapern and we always
say first three minutes of that third quarter, give me

(54:41):
some cheese here.

Speaker 4 (54:42):
I think if you're a Unioto, you gotta make the
mess of your opportunities. When you get those opportunities inside,
you got to get make those buckets count. And also
in transition opportunities, if you're in Zane Trace, you've got
to go do a better job of taking care of
the basketball and you got to shoot the ball a
little bit better from the outside.

Speaker 5 (54:59):
That's what they're known, that's what they do, uh.

Speaker 4 (55:02):
And I think if they do that, you know, if
both teams, you know, it's just gonna be a good
basketball game. I'm excited about the second half started. We're
gonna see you get the ball for see if they
don't go inside real quick with K B.

Speaker 5 (55:15):
Perkins.

Speaker 2 (55:15):
Yeah, you mentioned you get the ball, Coats. I think
that goes back a little bit of strategy there before
the half, they were up one, they had the ball.
You know, they had a pretty decent look from a
from a shooter there in the corner to go up four.
Didn't go in, but you also get the ball back,
and I know when they're west Fall loss, they had
an opportunity to be up five or more holding the
ball of thirty seconds to go in the third quarter,

(55:36):
and before you know, West Fall cuts it to one
where they just completely butcher time and score. So again,
that might have been something along the lines of the
thinking they're.

Speaker 5 (55:44):
I'm just looking. We have no referees out here.

Speaker 4 (55:46):
I don't think anybody will tell them that the second
half is getting you started. So we have two of
the three have decided to come on the court. They
got to go find the basketball now. And that's that's
one of those funny things about I guess when the
ad is the basketball folks, you got to make sure
everyone else is doing the jobs that you would normally do.

(56:07):
So we're still waiting on the third official to make
his way out.

Speaker 2 (56:11):
Yes, so we have ten players, two officials. It is
going to be cut right the inbounded. Here's Zane Traces
is showing the two three zone as Unioda enters the
ball and Scrimmagery. We'll see if they stay in that.
Zane Trace runs the five starters back out there, rip A, Stewart, Robertson, mccaulaugh,
and Houston. Uniota does the same thing with cutright, Fitch, Zikafous,

(56:35):
Hoops and Perkins.

Speaker 4 (56:36):
The question would be is will the official get a
standing or at least an ovation you you can.

Speaker 2 (56:42):
Guarantee, especially with this like are we go?

Speaker 5 (56:45):
Hey, at least he didn't get a boot?

Speaker 2 (56:52):
All right? Here we go twenty two to twenty one.
Uniota one point lead in the basketball inbound to Fitch
is the second half is underw wash go left side.
Zamee Trace does play in the two three zone inside
Hoops Hoops a nice bounce pass download of Perkins, and
just as we highlighted, another missed opportunity as Perkins at
the rint cannot finish rebounds, ain't trade.

Speaker 4 (57:13):
I really like the fact they put Hoops in the
high post to make those passes inside the kV Perkins.

Speaker 5 (57:18):
That was a good job.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
Cut right, good ball pressure against Stewart. Now left side,
rip it out top Houston will swing it all the
way around the Robinson. Robinson wants to go download to McCalla.
Mcaullill try a little mid range jumper. No good rebound.
Perkins out comes Fitch of uniodom. He'll push it up
the right side. Now I'll back it back out, rode
out to Zicka fous and they'll reset Fitch on the

(57:40):
right wing out top Hoops. They'll try to stretch the
zone out a little bit and see if they can
bring Perkins into the high post. Zame Trace at this
point doing a pretty good job taking that away. Okay,
Now Hoops flashes high posts. They get it to him.
He'll try an elbow jumper too strong rebound Zane Trace.
One minute into the third quarter, Unio. That still leads
twenty two to twenty one, which was our halftime score.

Speaker 5 (58:03):
If both teams really struggling to get the ball into basket.

Speaker 2 (58:06):
Here, Stewart goes left corner to rip us he tries
to throw it down low. Pretty good denial there and
Hoops comes up with a steel for Uniota out comes Fitch.
He'll push it hard cut right, makes the extra pass
to the corners. Zika Fu's had a great look at it.
Can't get at the fall rebound Robinson. We're still scoreless
here in the second half. Uniote up one. Robinson across

(58:27):
the timeline, backs it into the Scrimmagery goes left side.
Houston now back up the Robinson. He'll throw it down
low into Macaulay. He'll go one on one against Perkins.
Perkins does a pretty good job of walling up. Shot
is short. Out comes Unioda with it. Fitch'll look the
push Perkins up top, thought about a free I'll get
his way to Fitch because the ain't trace. Still in

(58:49):
the two three zone. Six minutes to go, third quarter,
Unioda still leads it twenty two to twenty one.

Speaker 5 (58:54):
Think about it is both teams are getting the shots
they wont.

Speaker 2 (58:57):
Fall screen from Perkins up top. Fifth kind of cuts
through the middle of his own had a pretty good
look at it to not get the mid range jumper
to fall out comes Houston and Zaint trace Houston now
all the way down off the left hand rivel. His
pull up mid range is good. Zame Trace scores first
here in the second half and he takes the twenty
three twenty two lead. Coming back the other way, cut right,

(59:18):
tries to drive baseline, it's taken away outcomes Houston drops
the bounce past the riff of a lot of contact bodies.

Speaker 14 (59:25):
Fly.

Speaker 2 (59:25):
I think we're going to have a blocking foul on
Blake Fitch of Uniota.

Speaker 5 (59:30):
Yeah, going back to that first half.

Speaker 4 (59:32):
It was twenty two fifteen Uniotos, so they have not
scored for a while, and it did a little eight
oh run here.

Speaker 5 (59:38):
Going back to the first half for Zaint Grace.

Speaker 2 (59:42):
Twenty three to twenty two, z Ain't Trace five point
thirty one. Third quarter, Zane Trace with an ob under
grip at the unbound man Alt McCallum. Now it's Robinson
up top. He'll swing at left side. Stewart from the
left wing and he knocks down a three. Grady Stewart
certainly Apabile hit six freees in a game earlier this year.
He's in a little quiet in the first half. Good

(01:00:03):
sign for the Zane Trace there as he knocks down
a triple twenty six twenty two sane trades.

Speaker 5 (01:00:07):
Yeah, if they get off to the heart start here,
Unio could be in trouble.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Hoops in the corner, skip past back out the phipps
ou it's inside Cooy. He tried to go down in
load of Perkins and again it's used. Gonna takes it away.
The Zame TRACE's own, giving Uniota quite a bit bit
of fits. Udio only had.

Speaker 5 (01:00:25):
Two turnovers that first half. They've got two here already.
In the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Houston penetrates middle, pitch it at the rippe. He spins
shot fake back out Robinson. Unioda matched up Me and
the man at Zicka Foost on the ball pressure of
Robinson left side RiPP it. Pallot's a good ball pressure.
They're good denial too. They run it all the way
back out the half court and hand it off to Robinson.

(01:00:52):
He'll call for a ball string from a caller. Now
it's right side RiPP it. He drives hard to the middle,
shot up over a top. It's blocked by Toy. Out
comes Uniota with a secondary break opportunity. Fitch looks to
attack his way to Zicka Foos and Zame Trace. Nice
job in defensive transition back into their two three zone.

(01:01:14):
Hoops on the right wing out top, Zika Foods swings
it left side. Fix Hoops will attack into the high post.
They might have missed him there. Now they get it
to him at the SBC logo. He draws about three
blue jerseys, hits fits out in the corner. Great look,
just can't get it to go kV Perkins runs down
the offensive rebound. Coy will try a deep three. That's

(01:01:38):
no good rebound. McCall is, Zame Trace. Dame Trace will
look the push and add to their four point advantage.
Stewart all the way to the baseline kind of forced
one up. I think he's thought he was going to
draw a contact. He gets it back. Houston comes left
side and rip it wanted McCall in the post. Pretty
good denial there from Perkins, and we got to time
out Zay Trace. It's going to be a short one,

(01:02:01):
so let's stay here and talk about this. Lou Early
on the two three zone, just continuing to cause Uniota
some fits. You could say that they've had three or
four pretty good looks, just unable to get it to
go down. But if ' zane Tracy just like kind
of the tempo that it's been able to settle into.

Speaker 4 (01:02:15):
Yeah, and I'm looking at probably at least five and
a half minutes that Unioda has gone without scoring going
back to that or second quarter, and they have missed
their first six shots of this quarter.

Speaker 5 (01:02:27):
So yeah, it is.

Speaker 4 (01:02:29):
They're getting good looks again, They're getting the ball to
the high post where you want it to be. You're
finding open guys in the corner. The ball is just
not going through the hoop form. And on the other end,
Zing Trace has done a good job as we were
talking about their efficiency of getting the ball to the
right spots. And again this possession was extended because of McCullough.
Again Gunner McCully got a tip on the ball in

(01:02:51):
the rebound and it continues here for Zane Trace.

Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
Three twenty five third quarter boat teams out of the
time out will be Zaane Trace. Ball here on our
near side on the side O B. They throw it
down on the quarter to Stuart back out top Robinson.
Robertson's going to ask for the ball screen for mccaulla.
He used it to his right hand rebel. He'll try
a three, no good there's McCalla again, just out working.

(01:03:18):
Uniota takes it and lays it in. Gunner mccaulla outstanding effort.
Twenty eight to twenty two. Zay Trace leads the sixth.

Speaker 4 (01:03:27):
He's had three putbacks on offensive rebounds here. That tonight
has Gunner McCullough.

Speaker 2 (01:03:34):
Uniota continuing to get his own offense pushed out here.
Now it's left side, it's welch down into the short corner.
It's Perkins. He bullies his way into the rim, my
strong nude the left. He lays it in and breaks
a long rout here for Uniota twenty eight to twenty four.

Speaker 5 (01:03:49):
Is ain't trees and he got lucky there.

Speaker 4 (01:03:51):
I think he might have stepped on the indline there,
but the referee was not looking down when it happened.

Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
Stuart hard drive to the right hand, got all the
way to the rim but missed it. Out comes fixed
unioda with numbers tips off the Zika fous. Then he
lays it in twenty eight twenty six Zame Trace and
I think we're gonna have a warning to see if
someone touched the ball when it went through there.

Speaker 5 (01:04:18):
I'm not sure what they're talking.

Speaker 2 (01:04:19):
It was the spitch that had come out with the ball,
Zickafuse was running to his left ice bounce passed and
Zickafouse waited in. It looked to me like there was
some sort.

Speaker 5 (01:04:28):
Of I don't I don't know what that signal is.
I've not seen that signal in football at the sideline watered.
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
I don't know what exactly was it. Twenty eight to
twenty six Zame trace back to back buckets from Uniota's
couple of league to two here for at two eighteen
to play third quarters, steward up into the scrimmagery. It's
left side, rip it, rip it back over left wing
the steward. They throw it inside the McCall At that
time they call that good position and long gets called

(01:04:58):
for the foul over the top.

Speaker 5 (01:05:02):
That's that's where K B. Perkin's going out of the
game hurts him. He has to go out.

Speaker 4 (01:05:07):
He's got to get to himself replentage over there. But
when that happens, they go right inside to McCullough. They're
gonna do it again.

Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
Obi under Robinson, as you said, the call steps right
back in. He throws diagonal rip without a great look
at it. Missed it, but again Zane Trace just outworks
him for the offensive rebound. Now Houston will try a
right quarter three no good. Zickafus goes up strong for
the rebound, and I think we're gonna have a file.
I believe they got Houston there on the rebound. Yes,

(01:05:37):
just that'll be his his first I believe team first.
So with one fifty four first quarter Zane Trace looks
like they're gonna stretch out. From what I've seen on film,
it looks like a one two two most of the time.
They'll put s Houston's length out on the point there.
Fitch and Welch will use a two guard front to
try to attack it. They'll work Perkins into the middle

(01:05:59):
there and they get it them. How it's into the
left corner. It's Zickafuse had a good look at it,
no good. Stewards ain't Tracy. If the rebound knocked out
of mountains by uniotas, it'll be same traces ball.

Speaker 4 (01:06:10):
Yeah, they had hoops found the backside wide open. I
think if KB Perkins gets a pass fake the Zikafoos
into the corner, he finds Hooped on the backside for
a wide open left.

Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
How it's Uniote applies a little bit of pressure. More
so it looks like just to take the ball out
of Stewart's hands, make someone else handle it. They're there'll
be McCallum. He's guarded by Perkins and Perkins. They'll step
back underneath the three point line, so mccaulla will just
hold it way out by half court. We're at one
nineteens ain't trace leads at twenty eight twenty six. Perkins

(01:06:43):
comes just enough to get a count. How Ripple will
come out and take the hand off. Ripple will play
downhill to the left hand, cut off there by Welter,
and you've called for a double drib. A pretty good
job by Welch there on the ball pressure to cut
him off on the drive.

Speaker 4 (01:06:59):
Yeah, that's only a second turn over there in the
second half of the increate going a much better job there,
Tell you what I mean.

Speaker 5 (01:07:07):
A line of action is happening in these quarters. Just
not a lot of scorn.

Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Coming up on one minute, third quarter already, it's twenty
eight twenty six at trace. Fitch walks across the timeline.
Perkins will try to screen the zone. It's hoops in
the corner and on the drive. I think they're gonna
get Houston on the bump down that corner. Lou Hoops
is able to get to his strong hand, the left
hand to the baseline there and uh, Houston just to
step late to cut the baseline off.

Speaker 4 (01:07:34):
Yeah, I always hated to give away the baseline to anybody.
You gotta take that baseline away and make him go middle.

Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
Fifteen bounds too, Hoops, and he sprints in and takes
the hand off back, but nothing there, so he'll bring
it all the way back out top. Now he's gonna
look to play one on one downhill give away to
cut right. Cut Right will drive hard to the middle
versus Pevin out Hoops in the corner. Shot fake drives
hard to the middle. Wanted to get at the Perkins
taken away by Mcallar. Cunting right just jumps straight up

(01:08:01):
in the air. It's gonna be a layup for Stewart
on the other end, and cut Light just jumped up
with two hands and slagged the pass. Really athletic. Cayden
Cutt Right saves two points and gives Unioda what could
be the final possession of the third quarter.

Speaker 5 (01:08:14):
Yeah, that was like an interception in the football game.

Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
There twelve to shoot zaint traced by two uniota a bucket,
the tie of three to go ahead hoops up top,
now six the shoot, hoops hand off the fit. She
gets to the middle out top. It's welch and history
is dropped. You won't even get a shot off. Great
job by the Zame Trace defense. Just outstanding lockdown. We

(01:08:38):
have played three just as we expected. It was gonna
be a tight one. Zane Trace twenty eight UNIODA twenty six.
Stay with us, We'll be back for fourth quarter action
on the Hernstein Hondai SEC Game of the Week on

Welcome back inside Junior the High School, Shane Holmes, Lou
Postage and Lou. Just we expected here on our Hearns
Fine Hondi SBC Game of Week that going to be
a barn burner, and then we've got just that ain't
Trace twenty eight UNIODA twenty six. Again, both teams, probably
from their own perspective, probably felt like they've they let
something get away there in that third quarter.

Speaker 5 (01:10:12):
Yeah, we knew it was going to be closed.

Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
We didn't think twenty eight twenty six after three though,
we thought they'd be more scoring. Both teams really struggling,
especially from beyond the yark right now. U Niyoda is
two of eleven and Zaint Trace is two of twelve.
So both teams struggling from beyond the arc long range.
I'll tell you what this could come down to one
or two possessions late in the game. And let's remember

(01:10:36):
this game started off with two points on a technical foul.

Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
Robinson Zaint Trace had his first possession in the fourth quarter.
Robinson came across tomline and the Patterson knocked it away
out of bounds. His ain't Trace will get it again.
How it's Robinson coming up once again against Patterson. Comes
right side, It's Caul again guarded by Perkins. I'll top
rip it. Robinson comes off the downscreen. He's got it

(01:11:01):
on the right wing. Robinson drives hard to the middle.
Shot fate good pivot, turn around jump with two strong
hoops of Juniota with the rebound out comes fitch bitch
playing downhill, drives hard in the middle. Wanted to hit
Perkins on the bounce pass and name Trace kicked the basketball.
His ain't chooseman unioda basketball ob under again Jane Trace

(01:11:23):
twenty eight, twenty six. Uniota needing a basket to draw
even here early fourth quarter, way out top hoops, thought
about the three. Drives hard to the rim, gets a
shot up to contact and let's see if they give
it to him and the act of shooting here Louke, yep,
that was a lot of I don't you know.

Speaker 4 (01:11:42):
It's one of those things where did he didn't get
even get off the floor there, but uh, you know
the NBA influenced.

Speaker 2 (01:11:53):
So Blake Hoops will make a trip to the free
throw line. His first free throw is good, twenty seven
Zane trace. Hoops will shoot another to try to draw
even here for his Shriman it's like go on a
sub here. Barry's gonna return to the Zame trace lineup
for Ripe as a trace file on Robinson just his

(01:12:17):
first Coops's second attempt also good.

Speaker 4 (01:12:21):
So we are tied at twenty eight and Hoops that's
his fourth point in the night. I believe in their
other guard, Fitch only has two, So two of their
main scores really struggling tonight. Now I got Fitch one
for nine from the floor.

Speaker 2 (01:12:37):
Zikafus returns the lineup on that made free throwt just
try to add some ball pressure here is Unioda is
going to pick up in the full court. They get
it into the call that will bring it up and
again it's some of that versatility we talked about. Uniota
can really add some ball pressure to free positions, but
Zane Trace can counter with with all five guys being
able to handle the basketball. Barry Hitch Robinson on the

(01:12:59):
curl and we're gonna have a blocking foul. Looks like
Blake Fitch tried to draw the charge and instead it's
going to go the other way. Good call.

Speaker 4 (01:13:10):
Yeah, there is a lot of people around him inside
and when only one guy followed, that's kind of a
Teltari sign there that you're trying to draw something there.

Speaker 5 (01:13:20):
So that's three on Blake Fitch.

Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
Hoops returns to the lineup. The ain't Tracey's got it.
Obie under Macaula just with a nice little move into
the middle, but he misses the point blank shot. Hoops
with a great two hands chest pip diagonal all the
way up forth the cut right. He lays it in
and Heeoda Bick in front. Thirty twenty eight. Blake Hoops
making an impact here in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 5 (01:13:39):
Two possessions, two scores here for Uniodo.

Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
In the fourth quarter, Robinson hands off Berry, he's guarded
by Fitch. Barry drives hard to the right, tries to
get all the way to the rim, lays it up
too strong, Oux guns Fitch fits to a streaking cut
right up the left sides. And here's lay up too
strong mccaulough. And if they get fits here, that's gonna
be a file.

Speaker 5 (01:14:00):
Oh wow, yep, So what do you do here? In
six thirty two to go? You got four fouls on
the fitch.

Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
So so basically what happens in about a fifteen second spurt.
Uniota was a great open court opportunity to miss the
lay up to go up for. But Paula comes out
with the rebound and uh it is it's gonna be
his fourth file. He's gonna be forced to go to
the bench. Here six thirty we'll see how a long
coach Holmes decides the keeping there. Unioda's gonna pick up
full court pressure.

Speaker 4 (01:14:31):
The interesting thing will be who brings the ball up
the floor for Unioda, who handles it? And if Zane
Trace does a little pressure.

Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
Well, rip Rippe was handling the ball there, Long was pressuring.
Jane Trace tried to set a full court screen and
there was a bunch of bodies flying. I think they
got Long on the on the on the foul of Uniota,
so Zane Trace will get it at half quart on
the side out of bound, so they'll throw it all
the way in the back court to Robbits. He's pressured
there by Zika Fou again, but Paula offering a ball

(01:15:03):
screen but Zickafusa's ball pressure, they're gonna be hard to
use it, hands it off Stewart. Stewart calls down cut
right taxon how cunt right falls down? So I think
before we just had those bodies fell in and both guys. Yeah,
So it calls Dane Trace to turn it over, and
then it calls Studiota. Maybe a layup on the other end. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:15:25):
Unfortunately there, that's a good thing by the official right there,
noticing even though the ball was not dead, he called
it dead. Let's get this situation taken care of. Let's
get this floor cleaned up so this doesn't happen again. Fortunately,
no one injured there. So six eleven to go. A
couple of things here again, Fitches on the bench with

(01:15:47):
four fouls, three team fouls on Unioda here with six
eleven to go. Remember two shot fouls here starting with five, So, uh,
I think that's a big for Unioda. Do you continue
to play aggressively defensively, or do you not come out
quite as much so?

Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
Zane Trace had turned it over on the Stewart's slip,
and then Unioda turns it back over on the cut
right slip, and Robinson has the ball, bringing it up
against Nicka fous one more time. Now it's white point
to rip it wanted backdoor Stewart Cutwright did a pretty
good job defending. Now Robinson looks inside. It's McCall who
goes to the left hand and lays it in nice

(01:16:28):
strong finish. We're tied at thirty. Nice job, Gunner, mccauller.

Speaker 5 (01:16:32):
Yeah, he's played a Knights all around game here tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:16:35):
Give Robinson a lot of credit outstanding post feed right
where he needed it with Perkins trying to get around him.
Thirty to thirty five, thirty eighth to play cut right,
pitches it to Hoops. Hoops has it out top, Hoops
will rip through what to go strong in the middle
of his left Handy pivots through contact, shot up on
the rim and good nice jobs like Coops playing through contact,

(01:16:56):
get strong finished, Unioda back in front thirty two thirty.

Speaker 4 (01:16:59):
Yeah, good body can there now getting out of control,
not losing his footing and being able to get a
score out of that.

Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
Rippeth off a ball string from a Calla picks the
dribble up now gives a way to Robinson. Robinson up
top back left side, rip it. He'll try baseline drive
a little runner float or no good fighting for the
loose ball. And I don't thought maybe Perkins got it live.
They're gonna say Zane Trace touch the last and give
it back of unioda.

Speaker 4 (01:17:25):
I didn't think there was a Zane Trace guy there.
And Grippeth was a guy who shot it and he
didn't get a chance to touch it.

Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
He'll agree nonetheless, thirty two to thirty unioda. We're under
five minutes now to play. Zickafous taking the point card
duties as Fitch continues the battle. Foul troubled Perkins up top,
left side. It's cut right now back up top, Zickafouse.
They're gonna look for Perkins in the post. They hide
him momentarily, but the ball pressure made it tough to see.

(01:17:54):
Now hoops up top stop and go to the left handed,
dumps it down load of Perkins and he lays it.
Yeah again Blake Coops been packed in a game in
a lot of different ways. That time Lou got to
the middle, dumps it off, gets strong finished from.

Speaker 4 (01:18:07):
Perkin, and again that's the answer. Fitz goes out, Blake
Coops is the one who is now controlling things.

Speaker 2 (01:18:14):
Now, we're gonna have a timeout, Zane trace. It's a
full timeout, so we'll take it with them. Uni ote
to thirty four, Zane trace thirty four or eighteen to play.
We'll be back with what's should be a great finish
on your Hernstein Hondi sec Game of the Week on
ninety four Country WKK.

Speaker 18 (01:18:29):
Joe order for Jennifer Ce Is this a double shot,
double cream, double frot, double pump, double whip, double sleeve?

Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 16 (01:18:36):
Can you handle that, mus Cuffy.

Speaker 18 (01:18:38):
Did you know Discover automatically doubles all the cash back

Speaker 18 (01:18:44):
Seriously did you know Discover automatically doubles all the cash
back you've earned at the end of your first year?

Speaker 13 (01:18:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 12 (01:18:49):
You just said that?

Speaker 16 (01:18:50):
Did you say I just said that? Yeah, I'm cutting
you off.

Speaker 18 (01:18:53):
I can't have anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
Why not you earn?

Speaker 21 (01:18:55):

Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
Shange Holmes lou postage back here at Uniota High School,
Uniote on top thirty four thirty out of the time out.
It'll be Zaane Traces, Basketball Stewart'll be the inbound guy.
He'll throw it into Rippeth. Rippeth wanting to get it
to Robinson. But again, Zickerspoo's doing a good job denial,
so RiPP if we'll just bring it on out and
run the point. Good ball usher from Long Mayre gives

(01:20:02):
way to Houston. Houston now finally tried to get it
to Robinson and Hoops takes it away out to Zickafouse
and he lays it in and who honestly gives Zickafeef
a lot of credit there.

Speaker 5 (01:20:13):
Day.

Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
Trace was trying to get Robinson the basketball for about
ten seconds and Zickafush just wouldn't let it happened.

Speaker 5 (01:20:19):
Yeah, he did a great job there. And I'll tell
you what, Zan.

Speaker 2 (01:20:23):
Wow Robinson on the drive again, zickafus there, Perkins on
to help a little bit of contact, but the ball
comes loose and Uniovia's going to take possession back.

Speaker 4 (01:20:32):
Two big turnovers there by Zane Trace coming out of
a timeouts where coach cassidy wanted to make sure they
got a good quality possessing.

Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
And the physicality between McCall and Perkins has been all
night and I think that time Perkins, they were trying
to run a set they've been going to to get
him a look on the block, and I think he
just got too physical away from the ball, got called
for the foul.

Speaker 4 (01:20:56):
Yeah, fourth foul here on Uniodo this quarter again, foul
would be two shots for Union or Zane Trace. And
Zane Trace is smart probably think about attacking the bucket
a little bit more here and see if you can't
get to the line, maybe get gunner McCullough the ball again.

Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
Robinson being denied by Zika Fouse. They finally get it
to him now, so now Zane Trace will get into
their set. Robinson left side, it's ripping. Want McCall in
the post, not there, Stewart out top, He'll drive hard
down the middle. Houston right, mid range jumper. Mccalla's extra
effort continues to be a factor. He gets it back
shot up and good Gunner McCall's effort just continues to

(01:21:34):
keep Zane Tray Simmis when thirty six thirty two.

Speaker 4 (01:21:36):
Like I said, that's four offensive rebounds there and put
backs for McCullough. He's kept the ball alive a lot
for Zane Trace. You're gonna get a time out here,
you and Iodo. That's gonna be a full time out
on the full.

Speaker 2 (01:21:47):
Time out this time. Lou Let's stay here because I
got a couple questions for you here. First of all, emotionally,
you had Perkins a little physical Obviously, mccaull and Perkins
have just been going out of all night. It's been
fun to watch. He's playing really hard. You've got to
control emotions a little bit. Sure, So you're gonna talk
about that in the huddle. Then the other coaching question
I had for you, how long you're holding Fich there?

(01:22:09):
Wouldn't you go back with four files? What's your philosophiel matter?

Speaker 4 (01:22:12):
I think you're gonna hold him there. Probably maybe get
another fifty seconds at him right at the two minute
mark is probably what he says.

Speaker 2 (01:22:20):
It matter if you're on offense defense.

Speaker 5 (01:22:21):
So you come out. I'll tell you what.

Speaker 4 (01:22:22):
If you're coming out on offense, you might want to
put him in now.

Speaker 5 (01:22:28):
But I don't see him going to to the scores
devil yet.

Speaker 4 (01:22:33):
But here's the thing about this is a good time
out Number one for kV Perkins get him number ask
get him some water in there, and number two sort
of calm things down. You get plenty of timeouts compared
to Zaye Trace they only have one, so you can
sort of dictate how this last two minutes and fifty
seconds is gonna go. Now, you got to understand you're
in the lead, you're up for You do not need

(01:22:55):
to be overly aggressive on the defensive end, because if
you are the next time, they're gonna go to the
free throw line.

Speaker 5 (01:23:02):
And we see Blake Fitch come back in the game.

Speaker 2 (01:23:04):
Well, and it's interesting to two fifty because you are
going on offense here. And keep in mind a huge
fourth quarter just overall statistically for Blake Hoops. I thought
he's impacted the game in a lot of different ways.

Speaker 4 (01:23:15):
Yeah, and again he stepped up. When Blake Fitch went
out of the game, he stepped up. He took over it,
controlled the ball, got the ball, not only scored he's
got four points this quarter, but got the ball to
where other people could score as well.

Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
All right, back to action here is ain't trace gonna
stretch out in that one two two Again, Stuart and
Houston give quite a bit of length on that track.
Cut light up the hoops coops into the middle. Now
nice dumped down underneath. It's hit the boots and lays
and hands. Hoops made it look like he was gonna
pull it back out. He just wraps around and cut right,
takes away the inbound gives away to zip a hooos
and he misses the layout. He gets it back, but

(01:23:49):
we're gonna have a foul And again Uniota point blank
lay up, missed it and then on the rebound and
you just said it, Lou. We'll see who the shooter
is gonna be. I want to say Stuart, but Zikafuz
certainly got him on the on the rebound there. So
at two twenty eight thirty eight thirty two, Uniota had
an opportunity to stretch it to eight instead, zaying, Trace

(01:24:11):
will go back to the other end free throw line
to cut at the floor. Big Swaton.

Speaker 4 (01:24:14):
Yeah, and again I think we'll probably see some offense
defense type deals here when you can. But Blake fitz
being at the free throw line here, I would maybe
get him out of there so you don't get into
maybe a possible thing. Linden Robinson went to the free
throw line here.

Speaker 2 (01:24:32):
Robinson's first free throw attempt good, thirty eight thirty three.
Robinson will get another. Your box outs are so important here.
You're gonna have Stewart going into your hoops. You're gonna
McCall against Perkins, a great matchup we've been watching all night.
Robinson's second three throw no good. And you just as

(01:24:54):
I say, a mccaullough, he's gonna get an opportunity on
the tip and it's not gonna in today's time because
it's gonna be two shots no matter how they rule it.
And again we just talked about it. McCalla making an
impact as a rebounder once.

Speaker 4 (01:25:07):
Again yea, and again I believe they gave that one
to kV Perkins. That's number two on him. But again
chance and score with the plump stopped.

Speaker 2 (01:25:17):
Free throw, no good. And you know this is where
I always like McCall is shooting the free throw at
dow so you hope you're getting boxed out here. That's
where I always like to pick out that box out
that was the toughest of the two lou and get
a good pinch there. I didn't think they did that
on McCalla.

Speaker 5 (01:25:30):
That past hont.

Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
Second pre throw is good. Thirty eight thirty fours, ain't
trace gonna pick up in full court pressure inbound the hoops,
they'll give it back to Fitch two twenty five in
counting hoops away people away running jump now Fitch gives
way to hoops to break the ten count down underneath
the cut right, he brings it back out for hoops.

(01:25:52):
Hoops guarded by Robinson. He'll drive hard to the left hand.
He gets all the way to the rim, lay up,
no good out comes, cut with an offensive rebound back
out the fish. Two minutes remaining, thirty eight to thirty
four Uniota and Stuart grabs.

Speaker 5 (01:26:08):
Oh and I don't I don't like that callade.

Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
As hard as both teams have played tonight, he certainly
grabbed be downhill. They're calling an attentional foul here. I
should have done a better job of calling that live.
I apologize our listeners, but I was amazed by the
on the initial reaction. He certainly grabbed him. There was
no flagrant opportunity. I certainly think he was trying to
give a bowl and unfortunately for Zaying Trace, it's going

(01:26:35):
to be two shots and the ball, so golden opportunity
here for the Tanks.

Speaker 5 (01:26:40):
Yeah, that's a situation.

Speaker 4 (01:26:41):
As a referee, you gotta understand that was not by
any intending just trying to foul. They had plenty of
fouls to give and with the clock going under two minutes,
I was just getting ready to mention the fact that
they have to give four fouls before Uniota starts shooting.
So again time the situation as a referee to you
got to use your head there.

Speaker 2 (01:27:03):
First free throw was good thirty nine thirty four. Second
free throw also good forty thirty four, one fifty nine.
So again Uniodo will have it on the side. And
as Lou mentioned, Zane traced with only two team files
that're can be very very aggressive here. Never know when
you can knock a ball away and create the turnover

(01:27:24):
cut right to be the trigger man. They throw it
all the way to the back court to Fich. He's
guarded one on one by Robinson. He breaks the ten
count across the timeline. Now uses the crab dribble to
break the count. Fitch out top and we got another
file taken. This time it's Robinson one forty seven. Nice

(01:27:44):
job by Fitch there to understand the mechanics of the official.
You could see the eyeballs go to the official when
he put the arms out to break the count. He
did a nice job there.

Speaker 5 (01:27:52):
He's sure dead.

Speaker 4 (01:27:53):
And again if you're Zane Trace, he backed himself into
a couple of corners there. That's where you got to
recognize him. Go up and try to trap again.

Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
They throw it all the way to the back court
to Fitch and again we got another reach in with Robinson.
Again smart that he's using them because he only had
the one foul, now two and now three, so he's
still not in a huge world to hurt leus. We
would go to overtime one forty four and now the
next file will send Unioda to the line. But if
you're z Ay Trace, do you feel like the half

(01:28:22):
the foul? No, you did that to maybe get to
the bonus. But now I think you could al must
guard a little bit. See if you come up with
eternals yea. And again you can be selective on who
you're gonna foul too. If you're running their regular offense
and you get to a point where maybe you can
find somebody that you want to foul, then foul. But
I don't think there's a dire necessity to do it
right now. Got the ball in the hoops, then the
fix as he broke the timeline, he was trapped over

(01:28:43):
by the Unioda bench and Uniota will use the time out.
It's gonna be a fool and let's take.

Speaker 4 (01:28:48):
It with them.

Speaker 2 (01:28:49):
Forty thirty four. Uniota won thirty four to play stay
with us here on the Hernstein Honday SEC Game of
the Week on ninety four Country to wkkju.

Speaker 16 (01:28:58):

Speaker 2 (01:29:36):
Shane Holmes Lou posted Hernstein Hondai sec Game of the
Week and Lou, it's been everything we hoped it would be.
It's been back and forth, it's been exciting. We're inside
a pack gymnasium, incredible high school atmosphere, two student sections
going at it, two teams going at at It's certainly
been everything we wish to do with it.

Speaker 5 (01:29:54):
Yeah, a lot of strategies here, you know, what do
you do here? What do you do here?

Speaker 4 (01:29:59):
But again it's come down to you've got to make
some plays, and right now Unioto has made a lot
of good plays here.

Speaker 2 (01:30:06):
In the fourth quarter situational basketball. Got to take care
of gott to make free throws off your aame trace.
You're trying to come up with a big time turnover
in bend the hoops gets it back to cut Right,
and as he dribbles through some pressure, he's going to
be fou Now if that's Hybertson, all of a sudden,
he has four. I mentioned a second ago that he
was giving some fouls. Yeah, that's going to be his
fourth foul now, So one twenty nine. That's that's a

(01:30:28):
fact that yeah, sure is. And he's just got to
be aware of that on the defensive end. And understand
he's got to stand in this game. So we'll see
cut Right go to the free throw line. I believe
these are his first free throws of the night, one
twenty nine remaining in the game. Cut Right's first free
throw no good. So again has another one. And if

(01:30:49):
you're Uniota, you're thinking possession game here forty thirty four.
If you can make one more here or make we'll
make the second one. You can stretch it for pre possession.
Cut right second shot is good. Forty one thirty four.
Uniota by seven, one twenty seven in County Stewart brings
up for Zane Trace off of ball screen form a

(01:31:11):
caller left side. It's Robinson knocked away by fifth and
it comes up with a still. How Fitch is chasing
and Robinson it's if he's the one that gives the file,
that's his fifth and I think of the back forty did.

Speaker 4 (01:31:27):
Yeah, right now, this game has come down to Uniota
making plays here in the fourth quarter when they need to.
And I think the big thing there is, you know,
when Fitch went out, hoops has stepped up.

Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
The great Fitch will go to the free throw line.
One fifteen forty one thirty four Uniota first free throw.
It's good And again Zaine Traces just been so good
defensively all year. They've done average give it up about
thirty five a game. So again at forty two's ain't
Trace has guarded well. Got to give Unioda's defensive credit

(01:32:01):
as well.

Speaker 4 (01:32:02):
Yeah, this has been a really good defensive uh you
know game. Both teams really aggressive on the defensive end,
and it has led to uh fifteen turnovers for Zane Trace.

Speaker 2 (01:32:13):
Tonight forty two thirty four, Fitch a second free throw,
no good. Lead stays at eight one twelve rip Us
of Jane Trace will look the push off the ball
screen for macaulay. He gets all the way to the
rims shot up, no good, Zika Foust of Junioda. The
rebound gives a way to Fich and Dame Trace reaches

(01:32:34):
in to tie it up. Possession are are gonna favor Unioda,
So one oh one forty two thirty four Unioda should
be on the spot and Zane Trace is gonna apply
full court pressure.

Speaker 5 (01:32:49):
I think Rippeth lost his shoe there. He's gonna go
out of the game to get his shoe back on. Here.

Speaker 2 (01:32:56):
Judah Hanks comes in. They throw it deep over the
top to Zika Fus, who turns and drops the belts
Pastor who enticely done Zamet Trace obviously has to sell
out a little bit. Unia just throws it over the top.
Great touch past for a layup forty four to thirty four,
forty eight seconds that comes Barry how It's Stewart into

(01:33:18):
the middle outside and it poked away by hoops hoops
all the way out to the rim. Shot up, no good.
Rebound mccaulough. He tries to throw it out and my
honest take lise as he got hit on the past.
So it's if it's off dat Trace, that's a little
bit unfair because I thought he got fouled.

Speaker 4 (01:33:39):
Yeah, well, the one referee is definitely pointing one way,
so I'm not The other two referees are like, I
don't didn't see it. I don't know why they have
to converse over this. If one guy's pointing one way,
just go with him.

Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
So again, Hoops had stepped in the passing lane, poked
it away, goes to the other end, misses the layup
as mccaullaugh Zane Trace tried to outlet it. I thought
he got hit in the arm. But again, if they're
not calling the foul, technically he did throw it out
of bound. So again I thought Zamee Trace maybe got
a tough whistle there.

Speaker 5 (01:34:09):
Yeah, they did right there. I think too.

Speaker 4 (01:34:12):
If your Hoops, I don't know if you need to
go up there and shoot that ball, I think you
bring it out there, make them come out there. In failure,
put some more time off the clock.

Speaker 2 (01:34:21):
Thirty five point nine left in the ball game. You
need to go to forty four's a and Trace thirty
four and bound. The Hoops Houston gives a quick foul
and Hoops is going to go to the free thrown.
Both teams are going to shoot two on every file
the rest of the.

Speaker 5 (01:34:34):
Way out again and again.

Speaker 4 (01:34:36):
You know, this score may end up being a little
bit more not indicative of the game, not because of
these foul shots here.

Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
The Hoops will shoot two. Looks like Long is set
to check in there to scores table. First free throw
is good forty five thirty four Long to replaced Perkins
to give him credit to I know he's had a
tough week illness wise, and he's really sucked it up
and probably played what would you say close seventeen eighteen.

Speaker 4 (01:35:05):
Host and Uniota now has made eight of ten free
throws here in this quarter alone.

Speaker 2 (01:35:13):
Free throw good forty six thirty four leads At twelve
twenty eight seconds, Barry drops a bounce past the McCall
is shot up off the glass and Good Quinn climb
out Zane Trace and again forty six thirty six to
lead back to ten twenty four seconds from remaining. And

(01:35:36):
you know, Lous will stay here. And I wanted to
ask you about you know, Zamee Trace coming into this.
They're seven to zero five and zer in league play,
they've won low scoring games. You know, at West Fall,
they've been able to show the ability to go post
sixty seventy points. Two hard to be a team that
goes on to win eighteen nineteen twenty twenty one if

(01:35:57):
you can't win multiple styles. So this ain't trace team.
Watching him in person tonight, just very very impressed. Still
with their versatility. Looks like they might come up on
the short end. This is going to be a team,
especially if they get back to full strength here, which
we're hearing they could in the last couple of weeks.
It's gonna be a big factor in the league.

Speaker 15 (01:36:11):
Great.

Speaker 4 (01:36:11):
Yeah, and again you're you were one up on everyone's
it's you know, you still can throw your own destiny
in the league thing. This is one of those things there. Yeah,
it's gonna be a loss, but hey, let's not make
too much of it. They played hard, didn't shoot the
ball like they normally have been. But you know, as
the year goes on, and as you said, as they

(01:36:32):
get healthier, getting back Jerro into the mix, it's gonna
make this team much better because some of these other
guys had to step up and fill that role. For
Jerald until he gets back. But I really like this
Zane Trace team. They just didn't shoot the ball well tonight.
Give all the credit to youniod Or. They made plays,
especially in the fourth quarter when they needed to.

Speaker 2 (01:36:53):
Hoops and bounds the fits. He's trapped there, looks like
we're going to have a file. So we'll walk it
to the other end with twenty one point six remaining
and Blake Fitz will try to add to the ten
point advantage for Uniota. I've not heard a score of
the league west Fall a whole Southeastern this evening, so

(01:37:14):
this will draw Uniota even with Zane Trace, and if
west Fall beat Southeastern, WHI have a three way tie
at the top. And I think those are the three
teams that most teams had teg certainly doesn't mean there's
not three or four other teams that could impact who
does win it, but I think those are the three
teams that most people had toward the top there. First
free throw good forty seven thirty six.

Speaker 5 (01:37:37):
Yeah, and we've seen both Unia and Zane.

Speaker 4 (01:37:39):
Trade has had to go to Westfall in the first round,
so west Fall's got to go on the road to
those two teams here in the second round.

Speaker 2 (01:37:47):
Free throw good forty eight thirty six. Hanks comes back
the other way, gives the mccaulla his mid range jump
a no good hoops, brings it out and it looks
like he's going to just pull it out. The cutlight
coach kungs eye, that's going to pull it out and
hold it and that's going to do it. Judiota forty

Welcome back in Virginia to high School, Shane Colmes, Blue Postage, Turnsteine, Hyundai,
SBC Game of the Week here on ninety four Country WKKJ,
and of course worldwide on iHeartRadio and Juniota comes out
on top tonight forty eight thirty six. Over Zane Trace,
we look back through at lou and the first quarter.

(01:42:51):
We started with two free throws there from Zane Trace
on the technical file. They go up to nothing and
the teams go back and forth. Saint Trace eventually would
lead thirteen to twelve at the end of the first quarter.
Uniota would take control in the second quarter for a
little while. They opened up their biggest advantage at that
point in the game. It was twenty two to fifteen.

(01:43:13):
But these Zan Trace does a nice job of a
weathering the storm a little bit. They cut to Unioda
lead to one, twenty two to twenty one at the half.
Third quarter gives Ain't Trace a lot of credit. They
come out. I thought, there's there's zone that's given Unioda
some FIBs. But to Judiota's credit, they responded defensively a
little bit, and then twenty eight twenty six a Trace

(01:43:34):
attend a third quarter and again throughout the fourth quarter
Unioda's defense flow Shirley opened things up. Zane Trace forced
to file. Uniota converts the the free throw line and
they went at forty eight thirty six. Joined here by
coach Combs and Uniota and coach first of all, congratulations.
I wanted wanted to take you back into the second
third quarter because you know, we were both filling both

(01:43:56):
sides from both coaches a little bit. It just seemed
like a game where men the two teams are so talented,
they're playing so hard and offensive was just hard to
come by give us a coaches perspective there of those
middle quarters of how you're just trying to almost hang
in and.

Speaker 5 (01:44:10):
Survive defensively, go ahead and top care.

Speaker 2 (01:44:18):
Kids apologize there. We're getting Coach Holmes turned up a
little bit there. I think that's it. I heard something
go ahead call, you know, I don't know.

Speaker 9 (01:44:28):
Sometimes the game just moves too fast in my head
right afterwards, but it seemed like, you know, you have
two good defensive teams. I mean, Jane Trace is really
good defensively, and we play really hard defensively, you know
what I mean. Now we're getting better.

Speaker 2 (01:44:42):
I don't want to take.

Speaker 9 (01:44:43):
Anything from our kids.

Speaker 2 (01:44:44):
We still have a ways to go.

Speaker 9 (01:44:44):
So I know, like coach Fitch has done a good
job with d but I even probably ask him and
say the same thing.

Speaker 2 (01:44:50):
There's areas we have to still get better at.

Speaker 9 (01:44:52):
But we do play really hard. Our kids play something
like their hair is on fire times, you know, and
and that and that, and and I thought that bothered
them a little bit. They're a rhythm offensive teams. They
do better when they're kind of getting a flow, and
I thought we took them out of the flow a
little bit. But you can't pull away because their defense
is so good and they don't make a lot of
mistakes offensively, they're efficient, they don't mind playing a little

(01:45:15):
bit slower, and they're not a team you can speed
up necessarily very easily because they have good guard plot.
But I thought both teams probably offensively missed some shots
they thought they should make. Otherwise it's probably more of
a fifty to forty something type game because I don't
know if either team shot well, but maybe that's the
credit to both teams d I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:45:35):
Yeah, and again, coach, I think the big thing is
as we've come out of that third quarter, and you
had a long lull there. I'm going to say about
close to six minutes you didn't score going back to
the second quarter. But I thought the fourth quarter was
a big thing. And you had a little trouble there
when Fitch had to go out of the game with
them four fouls. But really stepping off I thought was
Blake Coops. He scored a couple of buckets for you,

(01:45:57):
but he also distributed the ball where it needed to be,
and I thought he stepped up big and early in
the fourth quarter.

Speaker 9 (01:46:03):
Yeah, he really did. You know, we went like you
said a long stretch here. Give their zone some credit.
I thought their zone was better than I give it
credit for. They don't play it as much, you know
what I mean, you think, oh, it's just something they
do every.

Speaker 2 (01:46:13):
Now and then.

Speaker 9 (01:46:13):
They're pretty good at that zone too, and so that
in the second quarter. We struggled a lot. With that
early third quarter, I thought we did too. But yeah,
once we got to that fourth quarter and Blake Fitch
had to go out, it was good to see Blake
Coops really study us. I mean, because you know, he's
played a bunch of basketball games obviously in his career,
and you know, everyone knows Blake knows he's fire, he's emotional.

(01:46:34):
We played, you know, but I thought he kept his head,
he was solid, he was steady, didn't you know, through
good passes, handled the basketball the right way. Really proud
of him. He's he's been really steady for us this year,
great attitude for us this year, and you know, it's
been it's been. It's been really really good.

Speaker 2 (01:46:50):
Coach saw to us about KB Perkins. I know he
had gone through some health issues throughout the week. I'm
able to play this past Tuesday night. I don't know
what his practice status was. Maybe you can share that
with us, maybe you know whatever. But the point I'm
making is, uh, I thought he really really gutted it
out for you tonight. And really you tried to play
him in spurts, give long and give Mitchell credit for
giving him some some rest as well, But man, when

(01:47:11):
he was out there, you guys were a different team.

Speaker 9 (01:47:13):
Yeah, I mean, you know, first, you know, KB hadn't practice,
he had in practice. You know, he didn't play against
huntingon Uh, he watched practice yesterday, and we had a
film session this morning, so he came in and shot
a little bit on his own this morning. And I
didn't know, I you know, you know how kids are.
Oh yeah, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
I'm good.

Speaker 9 (01:47:30):
And I figured I figured he'd hit a wall, and
I thought he did, Like I took him out at
the five minute mark of the first quarter. He looked dead,
But then I thought, I sked he kind of got
a second win and hung in there after that. And yeah,
I mean, we're you know, we didn't think we were
going to have KB this year, honestly, and if you
just saw us this summer, we weren't. We just weren't
nearly as good without him, and uh, you know he's
been big, but give David Long, Dawson, Mitchell those types

(01:47:51):
of guy's credit. You know, Dawson tonight didn't get to
play much because we just didn't feel like zone was
the way to go. So then we did a little
bit more, you know, with David, because you know, z
ain't trace man. They put five guys out there that
can all handle it, pass it, move they don't really have.
I mean, McCall is a post player, but he's not
just some big stiff underneath there. You know, he's athletic.

(01:48:12):
So we had to go David more tonight and Dawson
didn't get in as much. But you know, Dawson's been
big for us too.

Speaker 5 (01:48:17):
This year, Coach.

Speaker 4 (01:48:18):
I also thought to your other young guys, those sophomore guards,
you know, didn't really produce for you offensively, but it
was good to get him in this atmosphere because you're
gonna need him as the year goes on.

Speaker 9 (01:48:29):
Yeah, you know, they've been good for us. You know,
we have some sickness too. You know, Jack Welch is
just struggling a little bit tonight illness wise, I thought
Kateen Patterson actually did a really good job on ball
defense the freshman when he came in, you know, and
Isaac coy gives us a guy that rebounds, a good athlete.
I mean, those guys obviously want to be playing more.
I get it. We played ten guys, so you know,

(01:48:50):
you got to share those minutes. I mean, it's just
the way it's going to be. There's Knights, they're going
to give us more. There's Knights, they're going to give
us a little bit less minute wise. But if we're
going to be a team, we're just gonna checker, have
to check our egos at the door. And if we're
gonna be a championship team, and you know, we'll see
if they do that. I think they will. They're good kids.

Speaker 2 (01:49:07):
Well my last one, I'll get you out of here.
I you know, obviously you'll cut right, Zicka Foost. Their
energy was incredible tonight. Now you're not the only basketball
team in the world that plays with a lot more
energy at home than you do on the road sometimes.
But now you are coming up over the holidays here
at Circleville, at Washington Courthouse. I think it's a great
challenge for your team because again I think and watching

(01:49:28):
you a little bit. Listening to you talk, you're having
trouble taking some of this energy on the road. Do
you think this is a great opportunity against the two
opponents like Circleville and Courthouse to maybe really address that
over the holidays here?

Speaker 9 (01:49:40):
Yeah, I think definitely it might be a better opportunity
if it's against a couple of weaker teams over No,
but no, Circlele is really good and Courthouse is playing
really well. It's all where they beat Hillsborough and they
you know, very well coached over there with coach Barcher.

Speaker 2 (01:49:53):
So yeah, you're right, it is.

Speaker 9 (01:49:54):
I mean, it's gonna be Monday Friday over the break.
It's real easy to be flat over the break. Probably
not as big a crowd, not as much energy whatever.
It's certainly not going to necessarily be this atmosphere, right,
So we're gonna have to figure out a way because
you're right, I mean we haven't. We haven't played with
the same level of energy on the road as we
have at home for sure.

Speaker 4 (01:50:13):
Of Coach, congratulations on the win tonight, big big league
win for you, and that you know, second half, a
lot of things can happen here in the SVC.

Speaker 9 (01:50:23):
Oh sure, it's it's a competitive league and there's a
lot of basketball to play. It was just, you know,
the league itself was kind of in the back of
my mind. This is just you know, trying to play
against a really good team and feel fortunate to get
the win.

Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
I appreciate it. Again, that's Matt Holmes, head coach of
Uniota's his Shermans are successful tonight overs ain't trace.

Speaker 4 (01:50:45):
You know, so you can you can hear the excitement too,
you know, and his voice. Get a big win like this,
this is huge. I mean, you know, big league league
win right before the holidays. Uh uh makes your holidays
go a lot better.

Speaker 2 (01:51:00):
No question. And uh, I know we were going through
some of the flow of the game as coach Holmes
had come up there and we didn't want to make
him wait. Statistically, anything that jumps out at your loo
from your your numbers there, I know you said the
Zane Trace maybe maybe turned it over a little bit
more than you originally thought.

Speaker 5 (01:51:19):
Bug In shooting shooting.

Speaker 4 (01:51:20):
The shooting both team struggled seventeen and forty five, Uniyoto
shooting thirty eight percent, two of twelve from beyond the
arc eighteen percent, but free throw line, they were twelve
of fifteen eighty percent shooting, and then we had turn
six turnovers on the night.

Speaker 5 (01:51:35):
Did you nyoda?

Speaker 4 (01:51:36):
Whereas Zane Trace, they shot the ball fifteen or forty
three thirty five percent, two of twelve from beyond the arc,
seventeen percent, four of seven from the free throw line,
and they had sixteen turnovers. So again uh, not normal
Zane Trace numbers. And again both teams struggled, I think
from the from the field trying to get coach Cassidy's attention.

Speaker 5 (01:51:58):
Here he comes.

Speaker 2 (01:51:59):
I think we got him coming up here again. I
appreciate coach coming coming up here after that chance Falter's team, Coach,
I appreciate you taking time to come up and talk
to us there. We were just looking at the flow

(01:52:20):
of the game and get both teams so talented, so
many athletes on the floor. I think both teams probably
felt like they missed some shots they could make, but
we just kept crediting the defense on both sides. It
just seemed like such a struggle to score the ball
on both sides there throughout the second and third quarter.
Us give us your thoughts on just the flow of
the game there in the middle of the game.

Speaker 27 (01:52:38):
Yeah, I think in the first quarter especially, you know,
that did a great job in transition. Offensively, we weren't
doing a very good job of getting matched up off
our turnovers and misshots, and they were attacking the basket,
and really we were fortunate to kind of be tied
or up by one or down by one there at
the end of the first quarter. We felt like our
zone did a good job of kind of slowing the

(01:52:59):
game down a little bit, and we're more of a
of a half court set oriented team. And in the
in the third quarter, we started to pull away, I
think to four to six there, and then credit to them,
their turned their defense just turned up, and it felt
like we just really couldn't get into any of our
sets or really run what we wanted to, and uh,

(01:53:21):
it just kind of forced us to have to ball
screen to try to create some sort of action getting
the ball downhill and and uh, their guards just did
a great job of staying after our guards. And you know,
I think maybe our depth wore on us a little
bit there at the end of the third and fourth quarter. Uh,
but credit to Unia defensively, I thought they played extremely
hard and I thought their guards really made it difficult

(01:53:44):
for us to get into anything offensively.

Speaker 4 (01:53:46):
Well, Coach, your team struggled shooting wise, and as you said,
getting in anything offensively. But a credit to your team
is they never gave up. I mean they kept badly,
badly and they're in the game all the way into
the fourth quarter.

Speaker 16 (01:53:59):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:53:59):
Talk of how your team all year long has basically
been resilient and not you know, giving in to some
situations where hey, you know, things aren't going well for us.

Speaker 27 (01:54:10):
Yeah, we we did struggle shooting the ball at times,
and I think you know, even not just outside but inside.

Speaker 5 (01:54:15):
We had some good looks.

Speaker 27 (01:54:16):
But you know, un Yoda probably would say that they
missed some shots that they think they normally can make
as well. So that's just kind of the way that
the game went. But credit to our kids for being resilient.
You know, we know we didn't play quite as well
as what maybe we could have in different spots. And
you know, we talked about the first thing is let's
look inward before outward and a loss, because we have

(01:54:38):
been resilient throughout the year. But at the same time,
you know, we haven't had a whole lot of adversity
and This is really our first really punch in the
gut and just being able to handle that is going
to reveal our character even more.

Speaker 2 (01:54:49):
And we talk a lot about just you.

Speaker 27 (01:54:51):
Know, having great character and be disciplined as a group
and really taking accountability. And I think we'll have a
chance to really see who we are as a group
of individuals tomorrow when we play Miami Trace.

Speaker 4 (01:55:03):
All right, Coach, I thought Gunner McCall really played well
for you, Sam. He kept the ball alive a lot
of times, gave yourself second chance opportunities, and again inside
he does so, he handles his body well, he gets
the ball high on the board to give it a
chance to go in. He played exceptional for you tonight.

Speaker 27 (01:55:20):
I thought, Yeah, Gunner is just an extremely hard worker,
and he's somebody that you talk about resiliency.

Speaker 13 (01:55:26):
That's him.

Speaker 27 (01:55:26):
He just you know, it doesn't matter if he misses
a shot, He's going to go back down, bust his
rear in on defense, and come down make the next one.
He's just somebody who has been consistent effort wise with
his toughness and also has been able to really be
that guy that we can kind of rely on scoring
the basketball. You know in the fourth quarter, we probably
didn't get the ball to him as much as we

(01:55:48):
should have. Maybe we could have got him on the
block a little bit more instead of having him ball
screen some But it seemed like when the game got
away from us, we tried to pull him out to
help us ball screen and get downhill. But that's something
we can look at.

Speaker 2 (01:56:00):
His coaches well, coach. Last question I had for you know,
you're going into a great challenge with Miami Trace and
I think you play a mand over the holidays as well.
I thought Hanks and Ray both had given you some medicine.
You mentioned that as you get into the season, the
ability to spot that seventh or eighth man could be huge.
I thought both of those guys, in an atmosphere like tonight,
had come in and within their role had given you

(01:56:22):
some good minutes.

Speaker 27 (01:56:22):
Yeah, I thought that, especially Judah Hanks. You know, he
came in and I think he got to steal right away.
Then he got a transition lay up to really kind
of turn the momentum of the game going into halftime.
And you know, we looked at second half and maybe
at times thrown them back in there, but the game
was so tight and the way it was a guard
were in a game. We just kind of felt like

(01:56:43):
we stuck with our starting group there. But at the
same time, Judah has just been a hard worker, great character,
somebody who shows up every day and it's not going
to complain about how many minutes he gets, but really
proud of his effort tonight, and I think he has
earned a lot more trust from his coaches moving forward.
You know he probably will see more minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:57:03):
Well, coach, can't thank you enough for coming up really
talented team. This is gonna be a fun league to follow,
I know, Lou, and I just kept saying several times
a night just how much of a pleasure it was
to call the game, and best of luck to you
the rest of the way out.

Speaker 27 (01:57:16):
Yep, we appreciate it, guys.

Speaker 5 (01:57:17):
Thanks for covering us all right, good job coaching.

Speaker 2 (01:57:20):
And that's sane. Trace head coach Tyler Cassidy. I appreciate
him coming up and talking to us a little bit.
And as Uniota comes up on the positive side of
the scoreboard the night forty eight thirty six and Lou,
you know again, we wouldn't to not make the coaches.
Wait there, let me go back anything on the numbers
there that I cut you off on.

Speaker 5 (01:57:40):
Did we go over scoring yet?

Speaker 14 (01:57:42):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:57:42):
Not on the individual scoring.

Speaker 4 (01:57:44):
All right, So let's look at the individual scoring. For
Zane Trace, they were led tonight by Gunner Recall he
had fifteen, Noah Houston had nine, five points for Landon Robinson,
and then three points for Grady Stewart. Ezra Rippeth and
Judah Hanks both had two points for the Pioneers. For

(01:58:04):
the UNIODO Sherman's they were led tonight in scoring by
Jackson Zikafous with eleven, ten points for KB Perkins, nine
points for Blake Coops, eight points for Blake Fitch, seven
points for Caden Cutright, and three points for David Long.
So you can see those five starters there for UNIODA,
all pretty balanced scoring, and again that's sort of how

(01:58:25):
their team is. They ended up twenty two points in
the fourth quarter for Unioda to extend this lead out
to where it was forty eight to thirty six. But again,
they just made plays late in the game, and I
thought that was a big thing for them, really was.

Speaker 2 (01:58:39):
And I guess the last question and then we'll wrap
it up and get out of here. I do want
to remind everybody on the Accord Heating, Cooling and Plumbing
Scoreboard show, I'm going to be heading to the station
talk a bunch of basketball. Was Vanessa and Sydney there
later on. We've been averaging anywhere from ten to twelve
coaches a week, so I've really enjoyed die. So make
sure as we break here that you stay tuned the WKKJ.

(01:59:00):
That but hy Lou, I guess i'd ask you again
the coaching question of moving forward. You know, win or
lose a game like this, it's not going to decide
the league. It's a factor in the league, but not
going to decide the league, you know, kind of trying
to walk us through going into holidays. From the coaching
perspective on how you try to handle this situation, well.

Speaker 4 (01:59:16):
I think if you're Unioda, you just you say, guys,
great job. It's basically late in the game of handling
what the pressure was there and making plays when we
had to the rest of the game, you battled and
that's all we can ask you to do. If you're
zaying trace this is a learning tool, you know, as
the coach said, this is the first time you're gonna
walk out of a gym with a loss this year,

(01:59:37):
but a lot of things that hang their head about.

Speaker 14 (01:59:40):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (01:59:40):
And again this loss does nothing to you.

Speaker 2 (01:59:43):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (01:59:44):
You can only learn from this loss.

Speaker 4 (01:59:46):
Next time you get this unioda team at your place,
and a lot of games in the second half are
going to be at Zane Trace, so that'll be a
plus for them. So again, both coaches, you're gonna take
different things from this. But you know, it was just
it's a fun basketball game for you and idawatch and
it was a great atmosphere for high school basketball.

Speaker 2 (02:00:05):
Well again, you've been listening to Hernshein Honda SVC Game
of the Week on ninety four Country WKKJ. Again, just
a little bit of a break and then stay tuned
the WKKJ for the acrid Heating, Cooling and Plumbing scoreboard show.
So I'll go join Vanessa in Sydney. But on that note, Loop,
it's been a lot of fun. Thank you so much
to Sidney Newsom. Thank you Lou posted. This is Shane
Colmbs final score for the final time Uniota beat Sane

(02:00:28):
Trace forty eight to thirty six.

Speaker 1 (02:00:30):
So long, everybody, you've been listening to high school basketball
on ninety four Country Listen each week for exciting action
from the Sciota Valley Conference. Here on ninety four Country
