Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is high school basketball on ninety four Country WKKJ.
Now let's head the game site for today's pregame show
on ninety four Country.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Good anything, everyone, and welcome inside the Waverley Downtown Gymnasium.
I'm Shane comes alongside Lou postings. Appreciate you being with
us here in the Hernstein Hundai SPC Game of the
Week here on ninety four Country WKKJ. Obviously, the Downtown
Gymnasium here Waverley is rich in tradition when it comes
to tournament basketball here in the Southeast District. And I

(00:35):
feel like we have a next chapter tonight, Lou, and
what could be a really really good one with Zane
Trace and Ironton doing battle. Give me your first thoughts.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Well, first of all, it's a great facility. I mean,
to have a facility like this in an area like
this is perfect. And tonight we've got two really good
basketball teams that are very athletic, that can get the
ball up and down the floor. We could see a
seventy point game here tonight, or we could see game
in the fifties. Both these teams can score and both

(01:03):
these teams can defend. Well.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
I want to give a shout out to a Dina
Health and all the support they give us here on
the tournament trail as we get ready to do the
Division five District semi final battle here and you mentioned
the offense. You know, the fighting Tigers come in putting
up around sixty five points a night. Here's Zane Trace
right around fifty eight. But as you said, Zane Trace
is the team all year long.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
When I get ready to call them, I always think
of versatility. If they get death, I think an efficiency.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
You know. But one thing it jumps out at me
when you take the tournament time same Trace is ten
and one away from home and people might say, well,
why that's an important sat I've always.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Felt like the ability to get on the bus, go.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Away from home into a neutral environment against a good
opponent and get a win tells me a lot. And
it kind of tells me that Zane Trace and the
way they play it kind of travels come tournament time.
And that's why I like them so well here in
the tournament time.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
And again that comes from your leadership, the leadership on
the floor with this team. Like a Landon Robinson, like
a land Gerald, those guys really show the leadership by
you know, being calm. Nothing seems to get those guys
ro out up and they play hard all the time,
and I think the rest of the team buys into
that follows them, and I think that's a big key

(02:15):
for why they are so successful.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
On the road, you know, speaking a tournament time. The
other thing that comes to mind's physicality. Then when you
look at the Fighting Tigers of Irons and uh, for
obvious reasons, they have some good looking athletes and they're
going to bring some physicality of both on the on
the dribble reguarding the ball, and then obviously in the
post and on the glass.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
I know you and I talking off the year, you
really felt.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Like that was gonna be a big time challenge that
Saint Trace was gonna have to meet here this season.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
I really think so. And again it's the mentality too. Now.
I know this is totally different sports, but when you
win a state championship in football, that carries over onto
the basketball. For I was able to coach at Pickerington
cent with some really good football players that came to
the basketball of court and brought that physicality, and that
really gave us an manage and I think That's where

(03:01):
we're going to see tonight. Now, is Zane Trace going
to be able to handle that physicality and mentality. It's
going to have to happen early. You know, if they
get down early and they start hanging their heads, they're
in trouble. But I think if they can fight through
the first four minutes of this game and be as
physical and as very mental as this Ironton team, I

(03:23):
think they'll be fine.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Well. Ironton advances in this round as a result of
their fifty three thirty six win O where Cole Grove
Dulcon Bryant again, Ironton the four seed.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
That was a four to thirteen matchup where they beat.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Cole Grove, Zane Trace the five seed the feet of
the twelve seed the Buckeyes of Nelsonville, York seventy six
fifty six. Lou, I know you and Jacob had that
client a chance to listen, and you guys did an
outstanding job. That was a close game for two or
three quarters in Zane Trace really pulled away.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
What did you like about Zane Tracy in the way
they finished that night. I really liked the way they
fought through some adversity that things weren't going well for
them early. They fought through that aversity and again those
senior leaders at the end of the game really stepped
up for them and pulled them through with the victory.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
You know, you look at Zame trace personnel. You know,
Landon Robinson's one of my favorite all round players. Stuart's
had an outstanding year. McCall in the post has had
a big time a year as well as scoring and rebounding.
I think Ripe gives him a lot though, as Houston
had added a lot when he was starting earlier in
the year.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
But about halfway through the year.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
You and I had the game over at Hunting that
Landon Gerald made his return.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Now he's got about thirteen.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Games under his belt. He's up to about twenty six
minutes a night averages about nine point six assists. Talk
to me about what he has been able to kind
of in coort for ate into an already very talented team.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
But obviously he's their floors. That again, he just brings
that calmness the rest of them can sort of relax.
They know what he's going to be able to do,
and he knows where they're going to be able to
be and he can ditch the ball to them. The
thing about Landon Jerald now at this stage, the injury
is over. I mean that's gone. He's not even thinking
about that. So now it's just him playing basketball the

(05:07):
way he knows how to play basketball.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Well, last question here in our opening segment of our
pregame coverage tonight, A Braden Shrepp, he's a six to
three senior over on the Irons in side, had a
chance to turn the film on this week, and boy
do I like his game. He gives you a little
bit of that in Nomayah Wallfield, the sixth three guard
of Logan Elm that we just called. I guess I
bring that up because for people that maybe didn't listen

(05:29):
to our call of the Unioda Logan Elm game last week,
talk to the fans a little bit about what.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
You said that night.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I thought you had some great insight on the challenge
coach has and putting a game playing together when you
have a unique talent, but then you have very very
capable kids around him of not getting caught in between
on how you're gonna put all your eyeballs just on that.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
One kid, right, And again, it's one of those things
where I think you're going to probably use multiple guys
to guard him throughout the game, sort of keep them
off balance, but also keep the rest of the team
off balance as to you know, what's he going to do?
What's he going to be able to do? The thing
about Trek is he's just a tremendous athlete, a tremendous
leader quarterback from the football team, led them to the

(06:11):
state title along with a really great players. No longer
here Sean Terry is into college. Now, wow, can you
imagine this team with a Tarry on it. But again,
it'll be interesting to see how this game develops with him.
I think z Ain't Trace has players who can guard him.
I think the big key about the Night's game is

(06:32):
going to be rebounded. They Ain't Trace has to be
able to rebound the ball, not only on the defensive
end and only limiting them the one shot, but they
have to get some offensive rebounds. And that's where I
think Gunner mccull is going to be a big going
to have a play a big role in this game.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Well, stret comes in twenty two points a night, five rebounds,
five assists, A big time player.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Should be a good one. We're gonna step aside.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Him for a quick time. I'll stay with us when
come by Night's starting lineups in the tip you're listening
to herd sign Honday as we see gave of the
Week for ninety four Country WUKK jay Our.

Welcome back to Waverley Downtown Gymnasium, Shane Combe's lou Post.
It's sitting here courtside at the JD. Hall Hee Court,
at this beautiful facility know so well over the has
been known so well over the years for tournament basketball,
and it's a pleasure to be here tonight for the
Division five District semifinals. Ain't Trace and Ironson coming up

(10:38):
on the starting lineups here for the play in production.
Let's go over in four US Ain't Trace because they
are the five scene will be in their away blue
uniforms with the red numerals. They will start point guard
Lyndon Jerald, the five eight senior. He'll be joined in
the back court by sharpshooter six or four junior and
Grady Stewart five to ten. There A Rippeth, the all

(11:02):
around talent, the senior six y two Landon Robinson, and
then in the post six to two junior gunner mcfaula
again for coach Cassidy and his pioneers, Gerald Stewart, Rippeth
Robinson and Mukhaula.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Over on the ironton side six three sophomore Ashton.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Lane, a terrific athlete, comes in iverging around eleven points
a game.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
The sharp shooter for them is Brice Markins. He's hit
forty nine threes on the year.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
He's a five tenth senior Shootah Barnes, a nice athlete
on the perimeter, can shoot a little bit, good defender,
a six to one senior, Markel Cotton six to two
senior forward, terrific athlete comes in image around seven points.
And as we highlighted in the opening, Brayden Shrek, the
sixth three senior comes in twenty two, five and five

(11:47):
in terms of points, rebounds, and assists all around. So
again for head coach Chris Barnes one more time, it's Lane, Markins, Barnes,
Cotton and Shrepp and the obvious match up. You know,
Louis talk talked about Shrek coming in, but as you've
watched them on film, you mentioned the rebounding.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
So I assume someone like an.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Ashton Lane and Marshall Cotton's gonna be really important for
Zay Trace to keep them off the offensive. Lass.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Yes, And the other thing I would look at is
who's gonna guard McCullough from Ironton. Is it going to
be a Shrek or is he going to go out
and guard a guy like Griddy Stewart. So it'll be
interesting to see those type of matchups here and then
see which team's gonna be able to take advantage of those.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Ironton is the higher seat, or I should say the
better seat. Number four, we'll get the home Whites with
the orange mumal. It's gonna be Lane and mccaulla again courtside.
Ironton will be moving on left to right as we
call the action. Was Ain Trace coming back right to left,
and Lane's up top to tip it back to Shrek
and Ironton will have the opening possession is under away
here in this D five District semi final up top,

(12:54):
it's Lane gives left side Barns Alex Shrek up top
that matchup as well, but Struck into the middle kicks
it back out Cotton Cotton on the drive, he loses it,
out comes Stuart with it as Zaint Trace forces the
early turnover. Jerrel has it right in front of us here.
Now he'll reset Zane Trace up top is they'll have
their first offensive possession of the evening. Rip Of has

(13:16):
it on the left side uptop. Stewart swings it right side.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
That's Jeral.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Jerald hits Stewart on the flare screen. He turns down
a three, gets in the middle, tries the force one
up blocked by Cotton and out comes Barns with it.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Gonna let him play a little bit here tonight. So
a lot of the physicality so far.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Certainly some contact there on the drive. Ironton comes out
with it. Now Barnes has it up top. Barnes high
post entry. I have really the three point line for Shrek.
Now Shret gives back to Barnes. He's gonna try a
left side three no good, pretty good box out by
Robinson and he'll look the push. He'll come up left side.
Jerrold's gonna try a left wing three, no good, laying

(13:57):
up top for the rebound, loses it.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
The call that takes it the right ways in the
rebounding we talked about. You gotta get some of those
offensive rebound and mccaulla is the guy to do it.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Shrek comes back with the penetration, kicks it out now
Martins has it, gives way to Cotton. Cotton an inside
out dribble, gives the laye laying hard dribble to the
left hand cut off there by mccallough back out the Shrek.
That Shrek Robinson matchup should be fun to watch.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Yeah, Robinson can do a lot of things, and defending
is one of them.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Shrek directs traffic a little bit and I'll use the
high ball screen from Cotton and that gets a switch.
He's gonna try a three, no good, really good box
out from mccaller there, and sat Trace gets another stop.
Pioneers lead it to nothing. Just two minutes into this one,
Saint Trace was possession of the basketball Robinson off a
high screen from mccallaugh. He spins the middle shot up,

(14:50):
no good rebound Barns of Ironton.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah, that was a good drive. He just left a
little short there.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Cotton on the drive cut off there, try to throw
into the corner and he's up flowing it away. Another
Ironton turnover.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
Yeah, just two minutes and fifteen seconds into the game
here and so far I think Zane Trace had the advantage.
Ironton pick you up in the full court and it
turns Aint Trace over.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Shrek into the open court up and a little scoop,
no good fight for the loose ball.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Gonna say last touch by Zane Trace.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
So that time it's Zane Trace turning it over in
the full court and Ironton's gonna get a chance underneath
its own basket.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Yeah, that was the announcer Jenks. Soon as I started
talking about Zane Trace. You're controlling things. It went bad
the other way and.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Bound ball side corner stret They're gonna swing it all
the way around, trying to get their shooter free in
the corner.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
That's Martins.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Zane Trace, well scouted there back out top of its barns.
Ironton will reset right side. It's cotton. Little shuffle action there.
Zane Trace does a pretty good job bumping the cutter.
Now shrek on a back door, touched it in the
short corner. A little float or no good out comes
Jarreal az Aine Trace with it, Zamet Trace thow up
to nothing. We're three minutes in Jarrel reset. The offense

(16:03):
comes left point to Rippeth. Rippeth left wing Robinson. Robinson
tries to throw it down load to Stuart, got pinned
underneath the basket, kicks it back out.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Jared.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Good patience for the pioneers. Mcaula gives a way to Robinson.
They'll swing it now. They're trying to get mccaulla down load.
Lane does a pretty good job of taking it away,
Stuart hard On the drive to the left hand, shot up.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
And good love that drive there by Stewart. He took
it strong right up, probably their best defender trick and
was able to get right to the bucket.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
You know, Stuart comes in with fifty one threes. You
know it's on the skyting Afford to run him off
the line that time. He proves he can drive and
score four nothings, ain't trace back comes Markin's right side.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
Three too strong rebown Robinson.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Robinson'll push it up left side Rippeth Rippeth hard drive
into the middle, cut off there. Now drops it off
with Stewart now back out, Jarl reseat him. Robinson drops
it short corner to mccaullaugh. Mccaullaugh, Stuart will try left,
so I agree, and he got it. Grady Steward trying
to get a time seven nothing Zane trace time out

(17:07):
on the floor and this early Lee's let's go stay
here and trying to give him your feedback. The things
you talked about in the openings, ain't trace doing a
pretty good job on the glass and then so far
in pretty much all the physicality categories, watching them guard
some of the cuts and stuff.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Pretty good. Oh, they're doing a tremendous job. And again
I think it's on the defensive end that they're doing
the best job, not giving any easy shots to this
Ironton team, making everything contested and taking away any gap
that happens to be there. No drive so far to
the bucket right now for Ironton.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Getting five quick points for Grady Stewart also had to
put by a basket from mccaullaugh. So this again seven
nothing and they've been able to get not only the stop,
but his Lou's been highlighting so well the defensive rebound
to wrap up the possession.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
I think we got a couple of subs there for Ironton.
I think number twenty minus Markle and also number thirteen
is see Tyler Roach. There you go, Tyler Roach, sharpshooter,
come in, give him some offense. Uh, Mark Markle really
athletic sixty three junior forward.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
So get out of the tine. I will be Ironton basketball.
Four oh nine, first quarter, seven nothing's ain't trace. Shane
colds Lou post is glad you're with us. Shrek will
bring it up for Irons and goes right side lane
up top. It's roach roach guarded by Stewart. So again
it's still the Robinson Shrek match up. Martin's turns down

(18:39):
a three's ain't trace. Wanted a walk, kick it out
to the corner and Markle they're gonna say he's behind
the three point line.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
Seven threees, ain't trade.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Marko knock the down left corner, it's ripe between the legs.
Wants to drop it in the post and McCall and
not there. How how out top for jail. All kinds
of contact on the drive penetrate drops it off from
the call when they lost it out of bounds.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
Well, they're gonna let that go all game long.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
It's gonna get pretty physical. Seven threes ain't trace. Ironton
back in possession of the basketball. Shrek will walk it up,
looking to had taken one look back to the bench.
Now calls out the set. He's gonna look to play
one on one down Hill pulls up in the mid
range shot.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
No good fight for the loose ball.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Looks like Markle comes out with it and he puts
it in so Maddix Markle giving the fighting Tigers a
little spark off the bench and again full court pressure
applied by Ironton.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
They can't give him those second shot opportunities. Did a
good job get it in them on a misbucket, but
could not get the rebound.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Jerald rejected a ball screen there from Robinson on the drive,
lose it out of bounds. They're gonna say, no Ironton
player touched it. So another Sane Trace turnover.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Yeah, after they were up seven to nothing. It's been
basically three possessions of turnovers or uh missed opportunities.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Now Zane TRACE's turned apply a little three quarter court
one two to two action. They put Stewart up.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Top on it.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
They hit Lane in the middle. He throws it down
to the right corner and there is Markins. We talked
about it in the opening. He comes in just shy
of fifty three's on the year and he knocks it
down to take the Ironton's first lead at eight to seven.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
That comes Zane Trace. Robinson'll try a three of his own.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
That's too strong, out comes roach of Ironton with it
eight unanswered for Ironton. Now with the basketball as they
lead at eight to seven, Strek has it up top.
He's guarded by Rippeth Shrek enters it to the high
elbow to Maddocks. Little flex offense. Now the hit lane

(20:47):
over on the left side, back up top markins now
gives way to Roach.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Roach picks up the dribble, swings.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
It right side. It's Maddocks now Shrek will reset, calls
out a signal left side. Marcus with a shot fake penetrate,
lost it for a second. Ironton gets it back and
now taken away by Stuart Stewart out into the open court.
He and Shrek the side step two shot up on
the glass. In the end, one basket is Stuart will

(21:18):
get a chance for the old fashioned throw.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
And I really like the way he was under control
the way down the floor and just sort of anticipating
what the defense was going to do, and when they
did it, he took a strong to the bucket.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
Big first quarter here for Grady Stewart. Open court opportunity.
Let the Shrek fly by there, ended up growing the
contact from Roach, who was called for the foul, and
Stuart lays it in off the glass and again he'll
get the free throw opportunity. Stuart's free throw is good.

(21:54):
Stuart with eight of the ten Zane trace points here
in the early going. Zane Trace leads it ten to eight. Yeah,
he carried him in the first quarter the other night.
I think he had ten of their twelve or something
along those lines.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
High ball screen will get the switch. So now Shrek
is on Stewart.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Shrek penetrates with the left hand dribble, dumps it off
the lane now cutting Mattison, Markle gets it shot up.
No good lane with the put back good, We're tied
at ten.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
There's that rebounding again.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Hit McCall in the middle to break the pressure. Now
Jarrod will try right side three and he got it.
Lane and Jerald dials one up for the thirteen tens.
The ain't traced back in front.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
Good to see him going early here.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Shrek across the timeline calls from the high ball screen
from Lane now trying to shoes it away and once
to one on one. Now we'll bring him back on
the other side. That ball screen will get the switch.
Now it's McCall a. Shrek will spin into the middle
against him, kick it back out. Markets will try a
three and he got it. Bryce markins as advertised, can

(22:59):
really shoes and tied at thirteen. That comes Dye Trace
Houston into the game. Now for Zane Trace back up tip.
It's jar Jerald again. They're really letting him play on
ball defense with a hand Jerald behind the back into
the middle, shot up, no good, rebound lane of Ironton.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
Twenty two seconds left. First quarter, were tied at thirteen.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Coach Barnes stretch into his Tigers that he wants to
last shot as they'll slow the temper.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
Yeah, I think this is gonna be a ball screen
for Shrek.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
They used guard on guard ball screen. Use the flare
of the markets truck with the penetration. Shot up, no good.
They're gonna say someone Zane Trace got him on the
arm there. That was a tough two, kind of about
a seventeen footer, and it looks like they're gonna say
Jarrold got him.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Yeah. I think he's sort of hung in the air there,
and I think it was the second swat at it
that got them on the arm.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Shrek comes in about sixty five percent from the free
throw line. First free throw good, Ironton back in the
front fourteen thirteen. You enjoy the same Trace scored the
first seven points of the game. Second free throw good
fifteen thirteen, Saint Trace still has five point six to shoot.
Let's see if I can get a good one here.
Jay'll push it up inside out, dribble off the high

(24:20):
ball screen.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Tries are three and no good as time expires.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
While we've played one. It's been a good one so far.
Ironton fifteens, Ain't Trace thirteen. You're listening to Hernstein Hunday,

Zane Trace jumped out seven nothing Ironton, then scored the
next eight, and eventually by the end of the first
quarter it's fifteen thirteen Ironson, LOLLI, you take us through
some of your early numbers.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
There, yeahs ain't. Tray's five to ten, shooting fifty percent,
two of five from beyond the arc, in perfect front
the free throw line, one for one, four, five for twelve,
shooting forty two three to sick from beyond New York
and a perfect two for two at the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Start second quarter actions, Ay and Trace with possession, they
turn it over, outcomes Strek into the open court, shot
up off the glass and good. Braden Shrek turning defense
to offense seventeen thirteen Iron ten by four. Stewart trapped
just across the timeline gets rid of it. Now Jerald
has it back left side. Stewart'll tire three and his
hot first half continues as he draws his Dan trace

(26:31):
within one at seventeen sixty.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
He can really set his beat and shoot it quick.
Thet'll zone here by zing trace now two three zone,
Barn ties it up top over to Strek. Now it's
left side, it's Roach. They'll try to now bring Strek
into the high post and the three. You gotta be
aware of him and his versatility as a score and
a passer up top Roach, Roach hard penetration, drops a

(26:56):
short corner to Markle.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Shot up off the glass. No good, but a file's
gonna send Maddox Markle to the free throw line. And
you know, Lou Maddox Markle is a great example when
it comes in average at about five points. But I
think his energy from the minute he walked on the
floor just changed the game.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Yeah, it sure does. And again his versatility athleticism really
makes a big difference for this Ironton Tiger team. And
again they're attacking that zone, just trying to overload one
side and sort of see what they can get out
of that first free throw no good.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Looks like ripe throw or turn of the Zain trace
line up replacing Houston, so z a trace. Looks like
they're back to their starters now Robinson, Rippeth, mccaulus, Stewart
and Jerald Ironton with Martins, Martel, Shrek Lane and Barnes.

(27:50):
Second free throw is good. So eighteen sixteen. Ironton by two,
and Ironton will pick up in the full court. Looks
like just a man. They'll clear it out though one
on one. Now Ironton's gonna come back with a running
jump to give them a call in the middle. Now
give way to Rip it gives it's on the baseline.
They're cut in Jerald. Jerald gives a way to Stewart.
Stewart hard drive back to that left hand shot, no good.

(28:11):
McCalla comes flying in for the rebound. Shot up on
the glass. Let's see if they get that more on
the rebound or they're gonna give him two free throws.
Looks like they're gonna go baseline. So again, it was
more on the rebound as he was coming down. Good
hustle from the caller to win a possession.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Yeah, that's his second offensive rebound. He's got four total
rebounds tonight.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
Having trouble getting it ins ain't Trace up against the
five count, finally throws it all the way out top
to Robertson. Robertson off a high ball screen and the
physicality is unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
Yeah, you have to call that.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
They're finally going to get laying away from the ball
on McCall. I thought, I'm not a wrestling official. I
thought we're gonna have to have.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
A takedown there. Well, I mean, he wrapped his hands
around him, So, I mean, I don't know what you're
not gonna call. If you don't call that, I mean,
that's just common sense.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
So Cotton will come into the lineup replacing Lane Zame
Tridtle smaller here with that, Yes, Zane Trace will have
another obi under ball side corner. It's McCall and now
they curl Robinson right back into the middle. Shot up
too strong, redound Barnes of Ironton Cotton to look to
bring it up inside out dribble and now cross it

(29:23):
over kits Markel in the corner. Shot up, no good
good box out down there from jail out comes Zane Trace.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
Robinson has it on the push, nobody stops the ball.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
He comes all the way and tries to reverse it
to the other side of the rim. Too short on
the layup try out comes Strek with it. Shrek immediate push.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Kicks it out.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
Barnes now return past the Shrek three no good redound
steward of Zane Trace still eighteen sixteen irons and five
point fifty one left first half.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Robinson has it in the corner and see the ball
get into McCullough here. I think he got a mismatch
that he can maybe take advantage of.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
As Lou said, ironton going it just a little bit
smaller here. Let's see if they can execute here and
get a post touch. Mccaulla has it on the perimeter.
Now gives away to Robinson. He'll dive back into the post.
Jerald has it on the right side, looks to go
one on one cut off there by Markley.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
Really big mismatch now he's got Barnes Barns on him.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Now they get it to him down low and the
push from behind. Good call there from Lou as they
finally recognize.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
The match up.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Good cut from mccaulla. Nice deep position and the shot
won't go, but they'll get a foul and Gunner mccaulla
will go to the free throw line.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Yeah, Ironton didn't like that match up with Barnes on him.
They were all trying to get him to switch. So
Gunner McCalla off to a nice start at the free
throw line. First shot up, no good. Gunner shoots at
sixty four from the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
On the year. He'll get a second one to try
to draw a little closer as Ironton still leads it
a teen sixteen second free throw up. That one's good.
Eighteen seventeen and we're gonna have a timeout on the floor.
It's a full timeout. We'll step aside. If you listening

all the support during the postseason. And you know, it's
kind of what we thought. It would be a very
physical back and forth. We go, Zain't traced by seven,
then Ironton by three or four. Now you know, Ironton
by it by one and both teams are just trying
to settle into the game. But but it really has

(32:12):
been a physical matchup. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
And the thing about a physical matchup is it can
affect your shooting too. We saw there Mapela. I think
he was so tired and beat up a little physically there.
That first bowl shot didn't look real good. But we'll
see how that plays out as the game goes on.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Shrek's gonna bring it up for Ironton again. Landon Robinson
will continue to draw that match up. Now, actually Shrek's
gonna give away let barn from the point. Strek's gonna
go off ball this time they'll run Strek away from it.
Now they'll bring him up top. Shrek has it. Shrek
goes right side cotton, cotton with the left hand, dribble

(32:51):
into the middle. It gives way to Barns, Barns right side.
It's it's Markle Now back to cotton up top. Shrek's
gonna try a d and he got it. Brayden. Shrek
dials it up deep. He's got about thirty three frees
on the year. He can make it, but he's more
in the midrange that time. He shows off his range.
Twenty one seventeen Ironton all the way up top. Stuart

(33:13):
Stewart on the drive, leaves it for McCaulay and he
lays it in twenty one nineteen's ain't trace back within
two and I set up for Stuart for mccaula ley up.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
Yeah. He did a great job of drone to defense
to him, allowing McCullough to be wide open.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
Markin's one more time from the right wing and Bryce
Markins is having himself a first half here that three
point or twenty four to nineteen Ironton by five.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
Yeah, he's three for four from beyond the arc.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
That comes ain't trace Jerrold has it up top at
the left point. He turns and sees coach Cassidy's call
from the opposite end bench. Now zan Trace is ready
to go in a one four high set. Give way
to McCall and now white point. It's Robinson. Drops it off.
They're gonna try to get McCalla down on the block.
He squares up, drops a bounce pass to a cut
Robinson shot. No good.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Rip Us and.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
Marcle fighting for a loose ball out comes Markle with it.
Shrek will look to push ironton basketball and a five
point lead. Shrek crosses over to the left hand, shot
up off the glass. No good, Steward is Jane traced
with a rebound. They'll turn and push it. The rip
up again. The call it down on the post. Unable
to get it to it back up tope, it's Jerald.

(34:23):
Jerl goes right side Robinson again. Three twenty three go
first half. Jane traced down by five again. The call
a nice deep penetration. They get it inside cut off
there a little bit good. Patience goes back out to Robinson.
Now Stewart is it. Stewart will try a left corner
three no good, Cotton with the rebound coach Barnes telling

(34:45):
Trek to go ahead and go a little bit. But
now they're going to walk it and slow it down
a little bit. Three minutes to go first high Ironton's
still with that five point advantage.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
At twenty four to nineteen, Shrek and Marquet with a
two man game.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Now Shrek will just go one on one, crosses over
to the left hand, gets all the way to the rim.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
They're gonna get the foul call. Let's see if he
got into the.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Act of shooting here. Yes he did, so, Braden Shruck
gonna go back to the free throw line. The six
to three senior, so said, comes in Adams in about
twenty two points a game. You can certainly see.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
Why shows off so far.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
We've seen the deep three, we've seen the mid range,
and we've even seen some transition.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Yeah, he's a strong player. He's a smart player. Uh
right there. That's It's a case where I'd like to
see the same foul call calling on this end as that.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
End twenty five to nineteen. On the first made free throw,
Shrek will get one more. Houston returns to the Zane
trace lineup shot up no good.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
So the twenty five nineteen is Ironton's biggest lead of
the night at six.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
Jarro walks it up here for Zane trays win at
a back door there for Robinson, well defended by Shrek.
Now Robinson and mccaulo will play a two man game.
Drop it in the post and McCall is shot up
off the glass. No good rebound, markle of Ironton. Shrek
will look the push. Shrek behind the back gives way.

(36:21):
Mark has one more time for three. Finally this is one,
but Cotton's there on the put back basket. Twenty seven nineteen,
Ironton in front.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Yeah, that's just again. You gotta be able to rebound
balls when there's miss Beckets. You need to take opportunities.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Zame Trace going through a little bit of a drought
here in the second quarter, needing a little bit offense.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
They drop it in the post of mccaullough. He'll put
it up off the glass and good and the old
fashion use the glass from about seven eight feet away.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
Much needed basket for McCall and Zane Trace twenty seven
to twenty one, Ironton by six to play here in
the half. Shrek on the drive cut off there Houston,
all kinds of contact that hive and they play on.
Now we're gonna have a tie up here. Possession there
are gonna favor in Ironton. Stewart will return to the

(37:12):
lineup and place in the ripe. Bryce Martins will be
the inbound guy here for Ironton. You got to be
aware of him coming back in as a shooter. He's
already hit what loo three threes here in the first half.

Speaker 3 (37:28):
Yeah, he's three for four shooting those threes right there.
They try to run him back into the corner, well
defended by Jarl. Now Cotton has it on the drive,
crossover shot up. I'm not so sure Stuart didn't get
a piece of that. Shot out comes zanin't trace with
it ahead to Jerald Jarrow on.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
The drive, shot up off the glass, No good rebound
Cotton of Ironton one eighteen in counting here in the
first half, twenty seven to twenty one Ironton. They lead
by six with the basketball Shrek on the drive. Now
it's roach up top. They'll go back to Shrek. Shrek
not a big hurry. Now backs it out toward the

(38:03):
center court there on the big tiger. Paul turns the
coach Barnes. Barnes wants him to spread the court. Yeah,
they want to go one four or low and let
Shrek go. Shrek into the middle, draws a second defender
kicks at the cotton. Cotton on the drive block there
by Houston nice health defense out comes Robinson with and
Zane Trace looking to cut into this six point Ironton advantage.

(38:25):
Stewart has on the left side, back to Robinson, He'll
try a top of the key three two strong rebound
Shrek thirty three seconds left in the half, and again
Ironton back in possession of the ball, still up six
at twenty seven to twenty one.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Yeah, it's been a nine to two run here and
Zane Trace just gone cold from the field.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
Roach has the basketball, had turned to the official to
see if he had the arms wide opener and the
five count, and Ironton's trying to milk this clock to
get the final shot of the half twelve eleven and counting.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
Roaches having trouble getting it back.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
To oh my, going to get Brady Stewart saying a
little handsack out top. I thought when the whistle blew
was gonna be a five tail but it goes against a.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
There's a good Zain trace, So yeah, that's uh. I mean,
you have fouls to give here, but I find it
hard to believe that's a foul if you're gonna let
a lot of other stuff.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
Go rip its returns to the Zain Trace lineup with
nine point nine. Roach is going to inbound it right
at half court. Throws it in the back court to Barns.
Barns left hand dribble six five. Struck has it on
the right side. He'll try a right wing three.

Speaker 3 (39:38):
No good. Hotton comes flying in or excuse me.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Markle comes flying in underneath, catches what was an air
ball and lays it in on the reverse sleigh up
as time expires to push Minerton to its biggest lead
of the night at twenty nine. At twenty one, as
as the fighting Tigers will go to the locker room
up eight, we'll stay with the Shane Combs loop postage.
We'll have first half recap peek ahead of the second half.

Welcome back here, Shane Combs, lou Postage ninety four Country
WKKJ Again a shout out to Adina Health for they're
awesome support during our tournament. Trail. This is the District
five District semi final here at the Waverley Downtown Gymnasium.
It's a four to five matchup with Ironton and Zane Trace,
and here at the half, Ironton leads Zane Trace twenty

(43:31):
nine to twenty one. If you weren't with us early,
Zane Trace jumped out scored the first seven points of
the game, forcing an Ironton time out at the four
oh nine mark of the first quarter. Ironton immediately responded
with the next eight points. The two teams went back
and forth, and Ironton led at fifteen thirteen at the
end of the first quarter. Just a couple of minutes
into the second quarter, Loo, it's when it seemed like

(43:53):
it kind of offense started to become really hard to
find there on the Zane Trace end. As a result,
Ironton was able to chip away and then a couple
put back baskets where Zane Trace ended up breaking down
on the defensive glass, which honestly they've been pretty good
at until that final what two to three minutes, And
that's how we arrive here at twenty nine to twenty one.
Before we get to the numbers, just your first kind

(44:14):
of reaction to the first sixteen.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
Minutes, Well, I think it's it comes down to that physicality.
I thought Zane Trace handled early well. I think it
wore on them as that half went on, and you
could tell late in the quarter that it was tough
for them to score and tough for them to rebound.
And I think that had to do with the physicality
of the entire first half. They have to do a
better job being able to handle that for an entire half.

(44:39):
Here in the second half, again, getting back to that
strong rebounding, you cannot give them second chance opportunities we
saw right there at the end. You know, you give
up a three, it was short, and then you give
up a layup because you weren't able to get the ball.
You can't do that against a team that's pretty good,
and this Ironton team is pretty good. Now, when you
look at the numbers, does is it a turnover battle?

Speaker 2 (45:01):
Is it poor shooting? Is it the difference a couple
by baskers? What's the number suck?

Speaker 3 (45:05):
I think it's second chance opportunities for Ironton right now.
You look at the numbers, ain't Trace did not shoot
very well in the second quarter, they were only twenty
seven percent. They were eight of twenty one overall in
the first half thirty eight percent, three of eight from
beyond the arc for thirty eight percent, two of three
from the free throw line. They only had four turnovers,
so no, it's not a real big turnover game. I

(45:27):
don't think Ironton only had four turnovers as well. Ironton
shot the ball ten of twenty two in the first
half forty five percent, five of nine from beyond the arc,
so again a little bit better shooting from beyond the
arc fifty six percent and four of six from the
free throw line. So again when you look at it,
it's those second chance opportunities and those open threes. You know,

(45:49):
you look at the scoring for the first half. Bryce
Market or Markens is leading Ironton right now with nine points,
and then you have Brayden Shrek with eight points and
Maddox Markle has eight points as well. You look at
Zane Trace, their leading scorer is Gritty Stewart he had
ten in the first half and Gunner McCullough had seven.

(46:10):
So again pretty balanced scoring for Ironton. Nice points off
the bench by Markle and good three point shooting by
that would have been Markins. So you know, Zaint Trace
still in this ball game, only down eight here at
the half. They got to come out here the first

(46:30):
four minutes and really try to control the tempo a
little bit.

Speaker 2 (46:34):
Well, you knew coming in Shrek was going to be
really good. As we highlighted then Bryce Markin's forty nine
threes on the year. He had three more to that total,
now up over fifty on the season. So obviously as
advertised a shooter. Then we highlighted Cotton and Markele when
they go to the bigger lineup in terms of I
would throw Lane in there too. I know he didn't
play as many minutes, but he'll return the lineup certainly

(46:55):
got to get him off the glass. Let's talk Zane
Trace offense there. Stewart had the hot hand early mccaullaugh
and a few matchups when he was able to get
low positioned even on the offensive glass. Your coach, Cassidy,
only twenty one points on the board, What do you
turn offensively? What do you want to go to?

Speaker 3 (47:10):
I'd like to maybe see a little bit more two
man games with McCullough inside, espasically when they have the
mismatch or they have the better advantage inside. That could
be either with Landon Robinson, Landon Jarro or Stewart. You know,
but I think you need to go maybe inside out
to find some of those open guys and maybe get
some cutters on the backside as well.

Speaker 2 (47:31):
We'll still a lot of basketball to play. Ironton leads
at twenty nine to twenty one, but certainly plenty of
time for Zane Trace to get back in this. The
winner is going to get the top seed at Minford
Falcons Friday night down in the Condo and Athleenes a
six fifteen start, as Mimford was all over south Point
to night's opener. So that's what these two teams are
fighting for a chance to go to athletes. Coming up

(47:53):
with about the two forty five mark, we'll step away
stream colvoy persons, stay with us. When we return, we'll
take a closer look at the third quarter actions. You're

Welcome Back to the Waiverlely Downtown Gymnasium Division five District
semi Finals, Zane Trace and Ironton The Fighting Tigers lead
the Pioneers twenty nine to twenty one. Here, Shane Colmes
and lou Post Is with you. I want to give
a shout out to Dina Health for all the sport
during the postseason. My Trail and Louis we highlighted here
at the half this is Zane Trace team. Ooh, that's

(49:34):
battle testing, you know, down a certainly plenty of time
to get back into it. I know as coaches it's
the old cliche because it's so true. First three or
four minutes really really important here in the third quarter, sure,
and again Friday when they were playing Nelsonville, York.

Speaker 3 (49:46):
It was that third quarter. It really helped them out
to that victory. So we're going to have to see
something very similar to that here tonight.

Speaker 2 (49:55):
Looks like the possession arrow when it was flipped there
will be in favor of Zane Trace. As both team
head to their benches here as we come up about
about thirty seconds to go, so Zane Trace with an
opportunity to possess the basketball and try to cut into
this eight point Ironton advantage. Other SBC teams still alive.

(50:16):
Lou and I'll be over at Southeastern tomorrow and I
here on WKKJ, the SBC champions Unida Shermans will face
a good Fairfield Union team and what should be an
outstanding game again a trip to the Convo on the
line there in that division as well. And then Wednesday night,
congratulations the Huntington they get a big win on the road.
A fourteen seed in Huntington squad knocks off three seed

(50:38):
Simmons Valley and they're gonna play on. They'll play Peebles
down at Jackson Wednesday night in Low and Isowa have
those again both the late nights right day thirties. We'll
be on the right around eight and fifteen again Tomorrow
night and Wednesday night. It's late night on w KKA.
All right, here we go, Zaint Trace now moving left
to right as we call it for you. In the
second half as they flip give way to rip up

(51:00):
on the left point up top, it's Robinson. Robinson will
try to top of the key three. No good, mccallaugh
up strong for the rew and again they let him.
They let him play on both sides, and they're gonna
say Zaint Trace touched the last so out of allms
pioneers over to Ironton.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
Again it was landon Robinson. It really had a big
second half on Friday, and I thought, maybe if he
hits that, when we can see that happening again.

Speaker 2 (51:26):
But again we see it's going to be a physical game.
Zaint Trace will use their one two, two three quarter.
Just try to spark something here, a little bit. Strek
up to the top lawn, the timeline over the trap.
Now it's laying in the middle. Down the middle, shot
up and good Ashton Lane. The sophomore returns to the
floor here in the second half and puts Ironton up

(51:47):
ten thirty one to twenty one.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
Yeah, we didn't see very much of him in the
first half there, but he does have four points up top.
It's rip us and he rips through the drive to
the right, spins back his fadeaway jumper is good as
we're a rip on the board now thirty one twenty three.

Speaker 2 (52:02):
Ironton in front by eight.

Speaker 3 (52:04):
Yeah you can. I let Ironton get on a little
run here. You got to make sure you stay close.

Speaker 2 (52:09):
Roach and Shrek on the two guard front and I'll
skip it clear across. Now they'll break it into the scrimmagery.
Shrek's got it guarded by Robinson. Shrek right hand dribble.
Robinson continues to get the five count. Now they open
it up. Shrek picks the dribble up, kicks it left corner.
Martins is going to try a three no good good
box out on the back side there from Stuart.

Speaker 3 (52:31):
Stuart push it ahead to Robinson. Robinson up to the wing.

Speaker 2 (52:35):
Now to rip it. He'll swing it all the way
over left side. Jarrow on the reverse, too strong rebound
for Ironton. Push it out the roads, Roach into the
scrimmagery and now I hope back it out, wait for
Shrek to come on down. Ironton started Markel instead of
Barns here in the second half. Yeah, I think a
lot of that's just how well Markle played there in

(52:56):
the first half. It's staying with a little bit of size.
Shrek has it over on the left side. Wanted lane
in the post. They're not there. Now I'll use it
back the roads. His three ball way too strong. Jarald
zame trace with a rebound. He'll push you ahead the
Robinson Robertson diagonal. Great, look the steward in the corner
and he.

Speaker 3 (53:16):
Knocks it down. Yeah, Land and Robinson without Standy's buying. Yeah,
that was a great find and again a much needed
basket there for Zain't Trace get gritty Stewart going here.
In the second half, the Stuart three pointer cuts it
to five at thirty one to twenty six.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
Now Shrek penetrate down Hill spins back to the middle,
shot up on the glass, no good rebound by Robinson.
Now Zaane Trace. All of a sudden they a will
to cut into a five point lead here. Ripe will
try a three point or no good good hustle there
for Zane Trace. They're gonna say, ah, they're gonna say
when Robinson tried to save it off Ironton that his

(53:53):
foot was on the end line, and they're gonna turn
it back over to Ironton's.

Speaker 3 (53:57):
Yeah, I think, I think if we get a better
off into possession there. That's why Zane Creates needed not
a quick three.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
Thirty one to twenty six, Ironton by five, they're gonna
get it in the full court.

Speaker 3 (54:10):
Now it looks like Barnes will replace Roach in.

Speaker 2 (54:13):
The Ironson lineup, So it'll be Barnes and Shrek and
the two guard front against the pressure that hit Lane
in the middle. Now they go to corner. Markins is
gonna try right corner three and he got it. He
just can't lose me. That's his four to three of
the night.

Speaker 3 (54:28):
That's all he's shot all night long. That's six threes
he's shot and made four of them. We call into
the middle, drops it off to a cutting RiPP of
his shot up off the glass and good.

Speaker 2 (54:37):
So that's a RiPP of aggressive the start to third
quarter thirty four to twenty eight and is ain't traced
within six Yeah, four points for him in this quarter.
That comes Barnes. Barnes goes left side.

Speaker 3 (54:48):
It's Markle.

Speaker 2 (54:50):
Markle gives way the lane, Lane drives hard right out
McCall a shot up, No good, pretty good job like
Gunner to not foul there.

Speaker 3 (54:57):
You can test the shot out comes.

Speaker 2 (54:59):
Drive the with it. Robinson to the left hand, swings
it all the way over now on the drive and
on the baseline for gun have a push.

Speaker 3 (55:10):
That was Rippeth on the drive and Ironton just got
a little handsy there. I think it's gonna be Markins. Yeah,
I don't know if that's just a matchup that zinc
Tracey is really trying to exploit this third quarter. But
Rippleeth has been very active in taking the ball to
the bucket on On Marcus all the way out to Rippeth. Yeah,

(55:31):
they bring Jerrel back into the corner. Jarrel has it
stripped from him. Out comes Ironton with the steel Shrek
pushes it up.

Speaker 2 (55:39):
The right side.

Speaker 3 (55:41):
Now it's up top Barns.

Speaker 2 (55:42):
Barnes will swing it left side markings one more time
from the left corner this time and he yet another one.
That's his fifth triple thirty seven twenty eight. Ironton dot
the nine and time out on the floor from Zane Trace.
It's a short one. We'll stay here. And you know, Lou,
the frustration on the Zamee Trace bench has to be
you show some signs here in the third quarter and

(56:05):
and you know it's got to be at the top
of the sky of your port with markings to run
him off the three point line. And the last two
times he takes the right quarter in the left corner
just gets way way too clean of Lortch.

Speaker 3 (56:14):
Well, he gets lost in transition there and then he's
finding his looks and right now he loves this gym.
I guarantee you he wants shooting here all night long.
But uh again, I think if you're zaying Trace, you
just got to make sure he puts a ball on
the floor. You cannot let him stand set shooting.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
He comes in averages about nine points a game, forty
nine threes on the year. He's already got fifteen an
added five more to that three point total, and yeah,
thirty seven twenty eight again. I like some of the
things Zane Trace has done, but those two threes kind
of make you feel like all the momentum that you
started the game is just kind of shattered.

Speaker 3 (56:51):
You know, you're holding Shrek right now to eight points
on the night, and here you let a guy like
Marcans make fifteen.

Speaker 2 (57:00):
What we got here looks like it should have been
Zane Trace basketball. I don't know if they had entered it.
I don't know if they got some blood on the
uniform there. They're gonna send the irons and training or quickly.
It looks like Glane might have a little bit of
blood on the uniform there. I don't know how long.
They'll switch uniforms real quick here. So he's gonna have

(57:25):
a new number. They're gonna go ahead and subroach into
the game. So now Lane, so Ashton Lane Lou will
now be number one. As we return to action, Zane
Trace will have the basketball. As Robinson brings it up.

(57:48):
Robinson goes right point to Houston now gives way there
to Stewart on the wing. Like up top Robinson. Robinson
gives them a call of chases right into a hand all.
Robinson has it back. Now McCall has it again, and Robinson,
once again, we'll chase it into a little two man game,
drops it in the post of mccaller. McCall is strong

(58:08):
up on the glass. No good, but gonna draw the
file and go to the free throw line.

Speaker 3 (58:15):
Yeah, good work there by mccallough. He really worked hard
to get that opportunity and he's gonna get two free
throws for it.

Speaker 2 (58:23):
So at thirty seven twenty eight, mcaulle will try to
cut into this Ironton lead. Kaula comes in averaging fourteen points,
eight rebounds, and he's had a pretty nice night. He's
been very, very physical down Loan. First shot, no good,
I said, in the first half, sixty four percent free
throw shooter. He split a pair there in the first half,

(58:43):
and no good here on this one.

Speaker 3 (58:46):
It looks like he's still numbers zero glow.

Speaker 2 (58:48):
He put the uniform back on evidently so evidently laying
they deemed the uniform. Okay, I don't know, Maybe.

Speaker 3 (58:57):
They have a double uniform.

Speaker 2 (59:01):
Second free throw good for mccaulla. Thirty seven, twenty nine.
Ironton tries a sideline break. Zane Trace had it scouted. Well,
nothing there, so Shrek will start the offense with a
high ball screen. He comes with the left hand dribble,
drops it down load to lane lane shot up block
there by. Uh see, Robinson got a piece of it,

(59:24):
but he throws it up to mccallar. Mccaulla gives way
to Houston. Houston right side Stewart Stuart high ball screen
from mccaulla. He'll walk right into a three point or
no good redown barns of Ironton. Good look for Stuart,
just can't get it to go.

Speaker 3 (59:40):
That would have been a big shot for him too,
So Shrek.

Speaker 2 (59:43):
Will walk it up two forty eighth to go third quarter,
Ironton by eight with the basketball. Shrek playing downhill to
the right hand cut off there by, McCalla keeps the
dribble alive and brings it all the way back out.
Now he's gonna go ball screen when now he waves
the ball screen away, wants to go one on one
with left hand dribble in the middle, shot up, no good.
Fighting for the loose ball out comes Zane Trace with it.

(01:00:07):
Robinson pushes up the left side Stewart. Stuart drives hard
into the middle with the right hand shot up on
the glass. No good and the call of with the
offensive rebound Stuart back to the three point line. No good.

Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
This time rebound markings of Ironton.

Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
They push it ahead the lane. Lane drives hard in
the middle, he loses it still loose, throws it out
and Robinson's gonna be the last to touch it.

Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
And that's gonna be Ironton.

Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
Basketball, a little bit sloppy and transition's gonna result in
an Ironton possession.

Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
Yeah, Zane Tradson's had a few possitions here to cut
into this league, just hadn't been able to get anything
to fall. It's like we're gonna see first time tonight
for Zane Trace. Number thirty one. Cohen Larson Larsen a
senior who's battle threw some injury here. Judah Hanks also.

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
Thanks another senior that can really or defensively a little
bit now Strak has it over on the right side
and they're gonna try to back him down and he
just poles over a rip off and they're gonna go
offense a file and take it the other way. Give
give has a rip of credit for standing in his
ground then and he ends up with bording to contact
and gets the file.

Speaker 3 (01:01:16):
Yeah, really good job there by ripping. He's played a
really good third quarter here overall, is.

Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
Ain't trace defense keeping them minute thirty seven to twenty nine.
They trailed by eight, but again they're gonna get possession
of the basketball.

Speaker 3 (01:01:33):
Yeah, nice substitution in here for offensive defense here. I
know he's trying to get mcculloughs some rest there and
get him out of the game a little bit. But
getting it coming in and back with Landon Robinson.

Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
Robinson will replace Houston. So Ironson's gonna pick up in
the full court again and the man we've seen him
clear out a little bit. Then we've also seen the
run and jump out of this. How they throwed over
the top the Jerald Jarrold's out in the open court
into one on one. He's gonna draw the contact as
he got the shot up and he should get to

(01:02:06):
go to the free throw line. He should a pay it.

Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
Now. Let's see what we get caught here. Everybody's lining
up for it. Yep so Land and Jerld eighty four
percent free throw shooter.

Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
If he's able to knock these two down, he'd be
able to cut this eight point lead down to six.
Senior point guard first free throw up. That one's good,
he said. Jerald Ohio a year ago, fought through some injury,
got back, played in thirteen games this year, comes in

(01:02:41):
average around nine point six assists, and again, I'm just
going to try to protect McCall defensively a little bit.
They'll go back to Larson defensively here, Jerald'll get a
second free throw. Hanks returned as well defensively. The second

(01:03:02):
pre throw good at thirty seven, thirty one, Zaine Trace
within six. They'll pick up in the full court a
little bit. Jerl apply a little ball pressure to Cotton
right side there. It's Martins that match ups with Hanks.
Now over to Barnes one forty to go, third quarter,
iront him by six. Now try side Martins. Pretty good

(01:03:25):
pressure here from Zane Trace. Cotton has it out toped,
crosses over drives down the middle, kicks it in the
corner to Barns. Barnes turns down to three, drops it off.
Good patience from Ironton. They'll throw it back out top.
Now it's one twenty to go. Third quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:03:42):
Yeah, I think they'd be fine to take the last
shot here at this quarter. Mark'll drive hard, drop it
back to Barnes. He throws it out to Cotton and
Barnes certainly had a lay up there. Now they drop
it into the corner. Larsen and Jerrol had them in
a trap there. Barnes back out. Now we're down to
one minute. One minute to go third quarter. Hotten into

(01:04:04):
the middle, left side Barnes. Barnes drops it in the streck.
Robinson will double down. Now they take it back out
the Barnes, Barnes inside the Cotton. Shrek had it in
the corner. Now he'll try a three.

Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
No good and on the back side mydex Markle had
inside position. I think they're gonna get rip on the
rebound on the fil there.

Speaker 3 (01:04:27):
Yeah, it's only the first team fouled his quarter though.
Tell you what I thought, Ironton took a lot of
time out there and then took a three like that.

Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
I didn't know.

Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
Not true, that's what Barnes wanted. I'd say number twenty
two as the the green light had the green light everywhere,
no doubt.

Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
One four to low set on the ob under. They
go out top to Midex Markle, back to Shrek. He
dumps into a rolling Markle and he lays it in
Mydex Markle the sixth Street Junior off the bench and night.

Speaker 3 (01:04:59):
It's been terrific thirty nine thirty one ironton by eight. Yeah,
he's been a difference right now.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Robinson comes back the other way twenty three seconds to
shoot high ball screen from Robinson, gets into the middle,
gets in the corner.

Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
Back out Robinson, Robinson high post.

Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
It's mccaulla, Back out Jarl eleven to shoot high ball
screen from McCall and jarrold Downhill gets it all the
way to the rim, shot up off the glass and good.
Thirty nine thirty three back comes track across half court.
Runner gets hammered at the buzz or No, Paul Coats
Barge is losing his mind. Thirty nine thirty three, No

(01:05:42):
call soon obviously, Aimee Traca on the Zame Trace side
will certainly take it. So we've come to the end
of the third quarter. Ironton thirty nine Zane Trace thirty
three say with us for an exciting fourth quarter on
the Herd Sign. Hundays, we see Game of the Week
on ninety four Country wkkjy I.

Speaker 20 (01:06:00):

Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
Welcome back for the Waverley Downtown Gymnasium Division five District
SIMMI Final Shane cogs Lee postage again a shout out
to Dina Health for all the great support during the
tournament trail. For us to bring post season action. It's
gonna be Ironton basketball of the fourth and final quarter.
As the Fighting Tigers lead at thirty nine to thirty three,

(01:07:22):
Shrek downhill to the left hand, shot up off the glass.
No good Ironton with a rebound back out. Roach'll try
a three. No good rebound Jarald Zane Trace tried to
pull it out and go take it away. As they
turn it over, Roach gets back to Shrek. Shrek thought
about the three. Now they'll settle in a little bit.

(01:07:44):
Stuart went for the steel there. Now give a way
to cotton. Cotton drive poked away by McCallum. They're gonna
say it rolled off of Cotton's leg and out of Aunds.
So back over the Zame Trace, Lou. If you take
a look at the third quarter numbers, anything jump out
at you.

Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
You know, VOT team shooting. Uh okay, there were four
of ten basically shooting from both sides. Zan Trace still
struggling from beyond the arc. One of five.

Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
That quarter back homes zan Trace looking to cut into
the six point Ironton advantage. Jerald has it. He'll try
a three up top of he got it?

Speaker 3 (01:08:15):
What's it?

Speaker 2 (01:08:16):
Right in half at thirty nine, thirty six and a
little life from the Zane Trace crowd.

Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
As the Pioneers are within three in Ironton. You're gonna
see some subs here in the next dead ball. But again,
first two possessions very good for Zane Trace. Defensively, Roach
give gay to Markans. Now Cotton has it.

Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Cotton's guarded by Stewart on the ball screen. Rippeth and
Stewart just trade off. Now it's McCall against Marco. Now
Cotton up top, Cotton off the ball stream from Shell
back to the pop is Shrek. Shrek guarded by Rippeth.
Shrat goes hard to the left hand. Good help there
from mccaullough back out the roads. It's going to be

(01:09:01):
a timeout on the floor for Irons thirty nine thirty six,
and we'll stay here this time as we're just coming
back off the quarter break. You know, you mentioned the
fourth quarter shooting.

Speaker 3 (01:09:13):
I thought Zane TRACE's ability to stay with it on.

Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
The defensive end through some of those struggles is the
reason they're here at thirty nine thirty six. You said
back in the post game you thought Zane Trace could
win a game in the seventies, but you also thought
they could win a game in the fifties. And that
seems to be the type of game we're heading for it.

Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
I think so. And again you talk about that third
quarter shooting. Other than Bryce Markins, he's the guy that
had two threes in that quarter that helped ironton, Zane
Trace did a great job defensive league giving up only
one shot opportunities. They ain't got to continue that going
here into the fourth quarter. You get it down to
one possession game right now, That's what you want to
do if you're Zane Trace. You want to keep it

(01:09:51):
within this margin and then maybe take a big run
to go after the other thing.

Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
I've noticed is Ironton now? Is the game's going on?

Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
They've started to go under some of these ball screens.

Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
Remember Stuart walked into one. I thought he had a
good look. It didn't go down that time. Gerald got
a great look at one. That might be something that
Zane Trace can gets some quality looks at the three
point line.

Speaker 3 (01:10:11):
Yes, and again, what's Grady Stewart also coming off of
those things too, because he can really light it up.
I see some of these Ironton tyrants, especially Shrek. He
looks a little tired out there right now. He doesn't
have that great first step to get to the bucket.
Ironton basketball at the time out they rowed all the
way to the back. They both throwed away. Barnes has it.

Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
Stuart's out there with ball prussing. Now Barnes into the
scrimmage area, give way to Shred Shrek up top its
Markle left side. Barnes now back up. Morgan's thought about
a three off there, try to get Shrek in the post.
Pretty good denial there from Robinson.

Speaker 3 (01:10:50):
Yeah, this fourth quarter, everything's going to go through Shrek.
I believe Blaine drives mccaull the Flies. They play on
no charge no blocks. They ain't trace the eternal McCall
into the open court. Now he'll hold it up and
come back out to Gerald's ain't trace. The chances get
as close as they've been in a while. Down three
in the basketball, in possession, and they're gonna go the

(01:11:13):
other way away from the ball. Wow. Again, you gotta
let a lot of stuff go and then you try to,
you know, something that really had no effect on the play.

Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
It's very tough to adjust to sometimes for the kids.
That's where you just got to compose and compete. Here,
five point forty four to go in the game, thirty nine,
thirty six Ironton, that offensive foul on Robinson. The ball
is gonna go back over Irons.

Speaker 3 (01:11:37):
It's two on the night for Robinson.

Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
Barnes running the point ball, pressure from Stewart Barnes down
the middle, drops it off inside wanted lane and it
goes out of bounds. I think Lane thought he was
gonna shoot it.

Speaker 3 (01:11:50):
Lane had turned to go to the offensive glass and
the ball wise out of bounds. Yeah, we've only had
one field gold here. There's fourth quarter and that's a
three by h Jerald. Ironton has not scored.

Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
Jerrold brings up for the Pioneers, guarded closely by Barnes.
High ball Street from McCaulay. Now his way to Stewart.

Speaker 3 (01:12:11):
Five point twenty to play in the game.

Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
Thirty nine thirty six Ironton Stewart up top Stuart left side,
Jerald Jarrold right hand, dribbled plot head range has got
it Land and Jarrold coming alive.

Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
Thirty nine thirty eight Ironton.

Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
League cut all the way to one. Barnes his way
to Markley, drops the pass off the Wayne lane. Aggressive
in the post. He falls and he's going to be
called for traveling.

Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
At his three straight turnovers for Ironton, and again offensively,
they really look shook. Have not been able to get
anything going there since the end of that third quarter
when they took a long time off the clock.

Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
Ironton's going to pick up in the full court man
the man, look here, let's see if they run and jump.
They were coming back earlier in the game. That looks
like they're gonna go one on one. Jarrel brings it
up against Roach his way to Stewart, will try and
top the King three too strong the call on the
offensive rebound and they're gonna get an Ironton file. Can't
tell if they got Roach or Markel, and they gets

(01:13:20):
number twenty mad Ex Markel gunner. McCalla went high for
the rebound. There, good two hand rebound, My strong attempt
at the offensive board.

Speaker 3 (01:13:30):
Yeah, he just grabbed McCalla as he was going up
to get it.

Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
Obie under and bound ball side corner to Robertson, Robinson
clear and crossed underneath. The rippers shot up off the glass.
No good, McCall. Ahile working hard on the glass.

Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
It's just right now. There's so much pushing and stuff
going on underneath. You have got to get some type
of control or somebody's gonna get hurt.

Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
So they're gonna get the loose fall file on Ironton
gunner McCall and Loewell in the last two offensive rebounds.
You talk about a young man that just doesn't want
to let us team lose. What an happen?

Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
Yeah? They, I mean both teams going at it hard,
there's no doubt, but referees have got to do a
better job of trying to clean that up in there screen.

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
The screener action to get at the mccaulla who shot
up goes all the way in and comes out, but
he's gonna get a foul, and I thought the Zain
Trace crowd was gonna bring the roof down. I think
would have.

Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Fallen him well right now, As I said, it's the
mismatch they have right now McCullough inside against anybody they
have on the floor. I'm thinking they may almost have
to put Shrek on him just to have some size
in there. Mccaulla's first free throw was good.

Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
When we are tied at thirty nine all with four
point thirty one to go in the game, and Gunner
mccaul's got a chance to bring Zay Trace all the
way back with this second free throw and put him
in the league. Second free throw that's too strong, high
up on the glass, is gonna be Cotton, and they're
gonna get Stewart on the rebound as the foul Markel Cotton,

(01:15:09):
a good looking athlete six y two seat and went
high to get the two hidden rebamd. So thirty nine all.
Now the a Trace will pick up in the full
court and they're gonna have to call time out, time
out Irons, and they couldn't get it in so to
avoid the and they're gonna go full time.

Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
I will step aside with them.

Speaker 2 (01:15:31):

we'll see Game of the Week at ninety four to

Welcome back to the Waverley Downtown Gymnasium, Shane Combs Lou postage.
I thank you to Adena help for all the support
on the tournament trail, allowing us to bring you Zain't
Trace tonight, Unioda tomorrow and Huntington on Wednesday, all.

Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
Eight thirty starts.

Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
Lou and I look forward to bringing you a lot
of tournament basketball and trying to get as many teams
in the calm tho as possible. Day Trace was down
eight Lou and all the way back they come. We're
tied at thirty nine. Four point thirty to go Land
and Jarrel with a couple of big time perimeter shots.
Mccaull are working hard inside and as we return to action,

(01:16:50):
Ironton will have the basketballs ain't. Trace will pick up
in the full court. Shrek will have it guarded by Robinson.
Ironton will clear it out and I'll go one on one.
Shrek will use a little crab dribble to protect it.
And now across the timeline down the middle, Shrek goes
runs over U. I don't know, look like is that

(01:17:12):
Jerald that was set? I think they're gonna they're gonna
call the blocking file.

Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
They're gonna get it on Robinson.

Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
Now they're gonna get Robinson from behind on the push.
I think it would have been you'd been hard pressed
to call a block on Jerald, he was waiting on him.
But I think they're gonna say Robinson got him a
little pushing the back, I thought out.

Speaker 3 (01:17:29):
Top Shrek basically used his arm to get around Robinson.
They didn't call it, and then they got Robinson trying
to make it up, or.

Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
They even put him in the act of shooting. So
they put a Shrek on the line. But Dame Trace,
so far, so good because Shrek misses the first one
set that free throw up. That one's good. Forty thirty nine. Ironton,
Ironton picks up in the full court. Now Jerrold has it.
Jarrold was cleared out though one on one against Roach,

(01:17:59):
Jerald Crows. The timeline gives way left point to Robinson.
Robertson all the way down, load to Stuart leaves it
to mccaulla. The meadle on mccaullaugh and as ain't Trace.
Pioneers have taken the lead. Forty one forty on the
mid range jumper gunner mccallaugh.

Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
That's gotta be their first lead since middle of the
first quarter. Yes, that comes Cotton.

Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
Cotton in the middle, spins good help from mccaullaugh and
they throw it away, but Roach runs it down now
back out top. It's Markle He throws it over the
corner markets for three. That's too strong offensive rebound for Cotton.
So Marcins finally misses one from the three point line,
but Zamee Tray Sunny able to rebound it, so Shrek

(01:18:40):
and the Tigers will get another possession. Zane Trace leads
it by one, forty one, three twenty two left in
the ball game. High ball screen. Roach has it guarded
by mccaulla. Roach trying to get it to Shrek. Nothing there,
He continues to dribble. Now Markins has it. Now, Shrek

(01:19:00):
possession of it, track hard to the right hand, gets
all the way to the rim, shot up off the
glass and good.

Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
Time out.

Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
It's going to be a short time. I will stay here.
So forty two, forty one, Hynton back in the front
by one, and you know, back and forth we go. Loo.
It's just going to be one of those games in
the final three minutes, who can execute, who can absorb
some contact, and who can finish around the rim?

Speaker 3 (01:19:29):
Yet it is you know, it could be one of
those cases. First team to fifty here tonight wins, but
it's going to take some work to get there. You know,
I'm going to be sore after this game, and I
haven't played the physicality of this game. But the excitement too,
You can hear zaan't Trace fans behind us and obviously
the Ironton fans across the way. This is pretty exciting

(01:19:50):
basketball atmosphere well.

Speaker 2 (01:19:52):
A lot on the line here, a trip to the
district championship, which also means a trip to the Convo
in Athens, obviously, always a big time opportunity for kids
in programs. The number one seed Minford squad awaits the winner,
as they were all over South Point earlier to advance
to Friday nights district championship.

Speaker 3 (01:20:12):
Back to action we go.

Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
Zane Trace has it. Ironton jumps a little bit there
at half court out of a two to three zone.
Now Jerald has it and they're going to continue to
chase and trap a little bit. Now, that's why he
called that time out to set up this defense. Into
the middle of mccaulough, mccaulla, back out to Jerrold, into
the corner to Stewart, Stewart cross court, Jerrold, Jerald drops

(01:20:35):
it in the post. McCallum with a one on one opportunity,
back out corner Rippeth for three and.

Speaker 3 (01:20:41):
He got it.

Speaker 2 (01:20:42):
Ezra a Rippeth on an inside out from mccaull and
Zamee Trace leads at forty four forty two.

Speaker 3 (01:20:48):
Yeah, he's been big this second half. RiPP If he
took a charge, he's got seven points here in the
second half of long.

Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
Cotton hands it off the markets, ribbles out top, tries
to get it back to Shrekrobertson must ends up taking
it away. He never gribbled the basketball, so he put
the ball back down Shreck. Then range jumper pull up,
no good copping up over the top and guess who
Ezra Ripper was a good box out. It's gonna go
the fire. That'll be the fourth foul on Ironton.

Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
They still have one more before they uh Zane Tracy
and shooting, and this is gonna be big possession. One
fifty five to go. Zane Tray's ball outs full court
and here comes the Ironton press.

Speaker 2 (01:21:30):
So at one fifty five to go, every Ironton foul
from this point four, we're gonna send Zane Trace to
the free throw line for two. So the Pioneers lead
at forty four to forty two. Robinson will be your
endmail on the spot and it's gonna be full court
pressure from Ironton. They're gonna root over the top again,
Jerald All alone. He guithers it shot up on the

(01:21:52):
rim him forty six forty two, zain't traced by four,
biggest lead since they light at seven to three, clear
back on the first quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:22:04):
Cotton on the drive and he throws it away.

Speaker 2 (01:22:10):
Zane Trace, with all the momentum, back in possession of
the basketball. They leave at forty six forty two with
one to go to the ball game again.

Speaker 3 (01:22:20):
You gotta take care of the basketball here and make
sure you are strong with it, and you have plenty
of time outs if.

Speaker 2 (01:22:26):
You're Zane Trace, Robinson and Belle mccaullay. He's trapped there.
He gives it back to Robinson. Robinson uses the dribble,
pushes ahead. Stewart fought about the three. Now back out
top jerrold one thirty to go in the ballgame. Mccaulla
has it up top. Now gives doctor Robinson. McCall in

(01:22:48):
the high post. Zaint Trace just playing a little keep away,
good foor spacing. They share the ball. Jarrol has it
up top. He splits the trap and they're gonna be
Ironton's gonna be called for a file. Little extra curricular
after the whistles, Dane. Tracy's got to compose there.

Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
You can't afford you're a four.

Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
You're a minute fifteen from the convo.

Speaker 3 (01:23:10):
You got to compose.

Speaker 2 (01:23:11):
Yourself, yep.

Speaker 3 (01:23:12):
And you gotta make sure you are doing everything you
need to to finish out this game. With a minute
fifteen to go, do not foul on the defensive end
and play strong with the ball at five on.

Speaker 2 (01:23:28):
Markle the amatus. Markle's been terrific to tonight. So Jerald,
you go to the free throw line, wayam and Gerald's
had a nice second half himself. First free throw up,
no good. So the lead remains forty six forty two.

(01:23:51):
Za ain't traced by four. Jerald will get another. There's
one fifteen left in the ball game. Jerald's second free
throw attempt bounces around the room and him forty seven two.
Shrek comes back in a hurry, crosses over the left

(01:24:13):
hand ribble, penetrates down the middle, spins back, throws it
up top Roach for three, and he got it.

Speaker 3 (01:24:20):
Just like that.

Speaker 2 (01:24:21):
The answer tyler Roach had defeat Shrek penetrated deep time
out on the floor. Here, Shrek had penetrated deep blue,
set up Roach on the three ball, and just like that,
Dan Trace Lee cut right.

Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
Back to two. Yeah, I knew that was gonna happen.
You know it's gonna be in Trick's hand and he's
gonna try to penetrate, and there's gonna be guys setting
up behind the three point line right now. I think
Ironton's out of timeouts. From my count, they are out
of timeouts. If you're again Zan't Trace, you have plenty
of timeouts, so there's no sense in throwing the ball away,
no sense in getting tied up if you have trouble

(01:24:57):
called time out right away, news tra Zane Traces. I
look across the floor.

Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
There loop Possessionari will favors Ain't Trace, so tie up situation.
Pioneers would get possession of the basketball. Zane Trace will
be in the full court here. They should be able
to run the baseline as Ironton will pick up in
the full court scenario.

Speaker 3 (01:25:20):
Here, I was gonna say, they're gonna have somebody back.
No one's gonna guard the ball because they don't want
that over the top to happen again.

Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
We'll call a sprints the sideline and gets it in
before he can get it back to Robinson. They immediately
give the foul. So feels like Ironton that's who they
are wanting to send to the line. And that makes
sense if you look down here at my status shoot
Jerald eighty four percent, you know Robinson eighty percent. So
those are two guys you don't want on the free

(01:25:52):
throw line. They're gonna send the pall of their sixty
four percent. With one O three left in the game
and Zane Trace holding onto a two advantage, McCall's first
shot up and good. He is four for seven from
the line tonight. Confidence stroke there from the six to
two junior is to make it a two possession game.

(01:26:13):
Shot up good again. A short time out on the floor.
We'll stay here forty ninety five. Nothing nervous about those
two strokes from gunner. McCall at all does a nice job,
stuffs right up Knox and Day.

Speaker 3 (01:26:29):
I love those two strokes there. And again this is
a team again, a very veteran team, a team that
wants to go to the convo. We talked to them
on Friday. We talked to both Graddy Stewart and Landon Robinson,
and both of them, in their eyes you can tell
they want to get to the convo. Well, guess what
you're under a minute to go, You're up to possessions.

(01:26:49):
You just got to do what you do best, play defense,
rebound and choop free throws, and you're gonna get there.

Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
Again. You said at the time before, you've got to
expect Shrek to have the ball in a little bit
of an isolation in the middle with your three point
shooter spot. It's one thing not to let Shrek get
to the rim, But as we saw last time, you
got guys like a Roach and Markins with the feet set,
you can't leave them wide open at a three point
line either.

Speaker 3 (01:27:17):
Yeah, you gotta make them take some time off the clock.
Two here, one, o, three to go.

Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Barnes will bring it up for ironton his way to Roach.
Roach hands it back to barn Shrek will come sprinting
to the ball, gets the handoff, Shrek to the right hand,
Ribble gets down, spins back middle out the Roach. Roach
makes the extra pass.

Speaker 3 (01:27:39):
Great rotation defensively from Zane Trace.

Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
Now Markins will try a three in and out fight
for the loose ball. Roach wins the offensive rebound, Shrek
splitting the double team gets it in all the way
out the margins. Thirty seconds left in the game, Jaane
Trace defensively doing a great job.

Speaker 3 (01:27:57):
Shrek picked off by Steward, and say traces back in.

Speaker 2 (01:28:00):
Possession of the basketball, and they will file as a ripper.
With twenty point four second remaining, and Rippeth was going
to go to the free throw line. Was Ain Trace
hanging on to a forty nine forty five a.

Speaker 3 (01:28:13):
Bandle of the big defensive possession there for minute three
to go in the game, and again zain't Trace basically
gave them a second shot opportunity, but did a tremendous
job of guarding everyone and then again to get a
steal there by gritty Stewart.

Speaker 2 (01:28:30):
So, as a Rippeth who's been outstanding here in the
second hilf, I'm going to go to the free throw line.
First free throw up. That one's good, fifty to forty five,
Lou said, first team to fifty wins? Does that many
games over?

Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
What do you call that? The old uh whatever rule
in the championship they have, Yeah, the eld em second
free throw.

Speaker 2 (01:28:59):
Good, fifty one forty five, sideline breaking Ironton Brews of
the wide Zain Tracy's gonna get the basketball back eighteen
point two seconds.

Speaker 3 (01:29:12):
Tell you what the second half, they've had eight turnovers
alone in the second half, twelve on the night.

Speaker 2 (01:29:20):
Robinson win Bounty throws it all the way out top
great Cats from mccaulough and he has fouled on the Cats.
Think Layne got him. Yeah, that was a really really
af what of Cats to come down at night and
shuffle the.

Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
Beat to travel. Yeah, and again right here at the
end of the game. You obviously don't want to get
anybody hurt either, but you got to finish out the game.

Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
So fifty one forty five, if mccaula could get one
of these, it would stretch to that three because he
got it. Fifty two forty five looking more and more
likely for Zane Trace sixteen point four seconds from nay
Paul has made his last three. Here for the free
throw line in crunchdown, second free throw, no good rebound.

Speaker 3 (01:30:08):
Ironton out comes lane with it, langle push hard.

Speaker 2 (01:30:10):
Gives way to Shrek. Shrek loses it. Now Marcus House
in the quarter shot up, no good, Stewart with the rebound,
and he's gonna be filed. Insane. Trace is going to
walk to the other end for Stuart to go to
the free throw line at fifty two forty five, and
they are five point seven seconds away from advancing to

(01:30:31):
Friday's district championship down at the Conbo and Athens against Melford.

Speaker 3 (01:30:35):
Well, you know you talk about winning championships defense and rebound,
and he does that for you right now. Zane Tras
has only allowed Ironton six points in this fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
File for Stewart at the free throw line, first shot
in and out. Remember Stewart had the really hot first half.
He's only had three points in the second half. He
had a three early on in the third quarter and
hasn't scored since. Second free throw no good. So fifty

(01:31:05):
two forty five, Shrek will come the other way. He'll
pull up for a deep free no good, And that's
your ball games the same Trace Pioneers survive in advance,
Saint Trace fifty two, Iron took forty five. Stay with

Welcome back to Waverley Downtown Gymnasium, Shane Colmsloo postage here
on the post game addition, as the Zane Trace Pioneers
defeat Ironton tonight in the Division five District semi final
fifty two forty five, appreciate you being with us on
ninety four Country there on the FM side and of
course worldwide on iHeart Radio and Saint Trace improves the

(01:35:11):
twenty and four and Ironton's outstanding season will come to
a conclusion at fifteen and eight, and that also marks
the end of some real success for a really good
senior class led by Freyden Shrek. He was as advertised, Lou,
I know he's going to finish in the top two
or three all time scoring there on Ironton. Just super athlete.

(01:35:32):
Before we get into the Dane Trace side, let's give
that young man a shout out. You're your thoughts of
his game?

Speaker 3 (01:35:36):
Yeah, I mean, he really impressed me. He's had a
great senior season both on the football field here in
the basketball court. And again that's an Ironton team that's
really scrappy. They play hard, a hard team to play against.
You know, hats off to Zaint Trace. They're the ones
that we're able to come away with the victory here
tonight in a hard fock victory in.

Speaker 2 (01:35:56):
That was a and Trace started seven to zero on
the run Ironton eighty seven. Remember back and forth, it
was fifteen thirteen in the first quarter. I thought Ironton
really started to put their physical will in the game
throughout the final five six minutes of the first half.

Speaker 3 (01:36:10):
They led it twenty nine to twenty one.

Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
In my notes, even though the third quarter wasn't all pretty,
I thought Zane TRACE's ability to stay with it on
the defensive end kept them in the game and set
them up for the fourth quarter. Run thought Ezra Riffeth
was terrific in the third quarter. I thought Lyndon Jerald
came alive in the second quarter. Can't say enough about
how physical Gunner McCall. I thought you said it perfect

(01:36:33):
in the pregame, and I thought, Gunner McCall have provided
everything you were describing, and then in the end they
go to the free throw line they put it away
fifty two to forty five. You were giving me some
incredible numbers there on the fourth quarter. Yeah, you said,
Zane Trace did what in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:36:46):
Zane Trace was perfect from the field. They only had
five field goal attempts, made all five of them, and
then they had twelve free throw attempts and made seven
of them. So you know, you're gonna win a lot
of games and you can do that in the fourth quarter.
And again they just did what they needed to do
at the end of the game. You can't stress it enough. Defense, rebounding,

(01:37:08):
and make free throws. That's gonna win a lot of
basketball games. Come fourth quarter, and you knew this game
was going to make a turn for Zane Trace once
they got it down into you know, one or two possessions.
Then you got to see once they got the lead, boy,
they just sort of took off and their momentum and
their confidence.

Speaker 2 (01:37:26):
Just grew again. As we wait for for coach Cassidy
hopefully come out and talk to us about it. You know,
we we mentioned in the pre game that this Zane
Trace team, the versatility, the depth, the the experience, the toughness,
all of those different things we thought equal tournament basketball.

Speaker 3 (01:37:43):
You'll be thought they had a lot of.

Speaker 2 (01:37:44):
Characteristics that that would would give them an opportunity to
be successful.

Speaker 3 (01:37:49):
They go from Nelsonville now up to Ironton.

Speaker 2 (01:37:51):
Now you're gonna go to another challenge and an outstanding
Mempher team Friday night.

Speaker 3 (01:37:55):
As you look.

Speaker 2 (01:37:56):
Ahead, I assume you like you like saying TRACE's chances
for all of the different things we watched on display
here tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:38:04):
Yeah, the fact that they were able to match the
physicality of Ironton, I think that's something that maybe bodeswell
going into a game against Minford. I don't know if
Minford's quite that physical of a team, and maybe that
could hurt them. It all depends on how the referees
called to But again, here's the thing about high school
basketball and district play. You know, you get about probably

(01:38:26):
until about eight in the morning tomorrow to enjoy this,
and then as a coach, you got to start looking
at some things. But boy, they got to be able
to enjoy this tonight, and I know these seniors are
just looking forward to make that trip down to Athens
on Friday. Individual scoring, you have some totals therefore, Yeah,
foot scoring for Ironton. They were led tonight by Bryce Markins.

(01:38:47):
He had fifteen points, all three pointers. He did not
score in the fourth quarter, eleven points for Braden Shrek,
ten points for Maddix, Markle who did tremendous job, especially
in the first half of them off the bench. Four
point points tonight for Ashton Lane, three points by Tyler
Roach and two points by Markle Cotton, four Zane Trace.

(01:39:07):
They only get four guys in the scoring column tonight,
and believe this or not, they're gonna win a basketball
game with Landon Robinson not scoring a point, but boy
did he provide a lot of other things for this team.
Leading them tonight was Landon Gerald with fifteen points. Grady
Stewart had fourteen points. Also with fourteen points was Gunner

(01:39:28):
McCullough and eight points for Ezra Rippeth. Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:39:32):
So fifteen, fourteen, fourteen and eight, and you know you
mentioned the zero. I think that's the perfect example. I
think that's the perfect example of Landon Robinson right there
are the opportunity to impact the game in so many
different ways. Comes in five rebounds, five assists, who steals,
block and and he's able to do a lot of
those things to help impact looks like we're gonna have

(01:39:54):
coach Hi Cash Deal Zane Trace come over. Well, Coach
first of all can congratulations. You know a lot of
things to talk about, but let's start first just in
terms of summary of the physicality in the in the
intensity that this game was played at your kid's ability.
Just to stay with it is the way I said

(01:40:15):
it in the third quarter, to allow you the opportunity
in the fourth quarter to win it. Just your your
overall thoughts and how proud you are the effort of
your kids.

Speaker 21 (01:40:22):
Yeah, we talked all year just about you know, developing
our mental toughness, getting more physical as a team. There
were moments throughout the season that we really struggled with physicality.
So tonight for us to fight like we did and
play with that physicality just makes me really proud.

Speaker 3 (01:40:40):
You know you you come out in the third quarter tonight,
we both highlighted.

Speaker 2 (01:40:44):
I thought Ezra really got aggressive, really started taking the
ball to the hole, and I thought that started to
set a little bit of a tempo. You know, Margans
comes back on the other end with the two threes,
But even then I felt like zany Trace was starting
to match a little bit of the physicality message at halftime.
Coming out in the third quarter, What were you trying
to get to your kids? They were coming out in
the first three minutes.

Speaker 21 (01:41:04):
Well, we talked about the first three minutes. We got
to make sure that we closed it to four, which
we did, I think right away. We made sure that
it did not push to twelve. We really talked about
that eight to nine point margin. You know, we got
to close the gap early and stay within striking distance
and d doble to keep it a three point game
going into the fourth. I think really helped us. And

(01:41:24):
we closed the quarters a lot better than what we
did in the first half. Pretty disappointed with how we
closed the first quarter. Take an untimely shot with LJ
he knows he's got to be better than that. And
then with Gunner giving up offensive rebound, we didn't close
the quarters well.

Speaker 9 (01:41:39):
And then these types of games. It's good that we
got to win and was able to get out of here.

Speaker 21 (01:41:43):
But at the same time, you know, I thought we
closed the quarter and the third better and then gave
us a chance in the fourth.

Speaker 3 (01:41:48):
Coach, defense and rebounds are basically things that helped win championships.
You only gave up six points in the fourth quarter
and not very many rebounds to that team. That's where
I thought you really won this basketball game.

Speaker 21 (01:42:01):
Yeah, halftime, really, that was what we talked about, is
up on our keys to victory. It's who's going to
play the better defense. And they had twenty nine points
at halftime, and we were getting out rebounded, and we
just challenged them with their physicality and rebounding and talked defensively,
they can't come close to twenty nine in the second half.

Speaker 9 (01:42:18):
And I think we held a team that scores, you know,
quite a bit.

Speaker 21 (01:42:22):
Of points to only sixteen second half points, which gave
us a chance to win. And I mean, I think
you guys alluded to it earlier, the physicality that we
were able to play with. I honestly did not know
that we had that in us as much as what
we did in the second half. And I told the
guys that after the game, and I'm just really proud
of how hard they fought to get to the combo.

Speaker 3 (01:42:44):
One guy I thought did a great job for you,
and I highlighted him in the beginning was Gunna mcullough.
I thought he had to play a really good game
for you and try to control things, and I think
he did. He took some hits in there, let me
tell you, but he was able to come through it,
and he made some big free throws for you late.

Speaker 21 (01:43:01):
Yeah, we challenged him at halftime because I didn't think
he played a very good first half and maybe he
was had offensive rebound in my mind a little bit,
but he was getting pushed around a little bit. And
you know, it's gonna be physical in the district, and
they let us play at both ends of the floor.
Were consistent with that, and I think Gunner just stepped
up his physicality and really battled for extra possessions rebounding,

(01:43:23):
and then, like you said, he struggled at certain times,
especially last year with his free throws. Be able to
make those down the stretch was huge for us.

Speaker 2 (01:43:30):
All Right, Hey, talk to me about Landon Jerald a
little bit. You know, he steps up there in the
fourth quarter. I thought, I thought the three pointer, then
the mid range jumper. You could just kind of sense
the crowd here behind us a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:43:41):
Talk to us about his road back and what he's
meant to your basketball team.

Speaker 21 (01:43:44):
Well, he hasn't had the year that he had last year,
and he probably would tell you that, and he struggled
through the injuries and maybe not as quick as what
he was but his confidence. You know, it's going back
and forth. He's just had a really tough road. But
the thing with is he's a leader and he wants
success for his team. And you see there in the

(01:44:05):
fourth quarter his lead, senior leadership stepping up to make
big plays for us. We ran a little set with
zoom action, he hits a three, He had a shot
fake mid range, told give us the lead. I think
he ended up with fifteen points, but only had three
at half. Times struggled in the first half, and he
was a big key to our success.

Speaker 2 (01:44:23):
When I got to ask you about Landon Robbins, he's
one of my favorite players in the entire area. Tonight
is if young kids are watching, tonight is the perfect
example of how you can dominate a game without scoring
a point. He literally didn't score a point. The man
he impacted the game in seventy one.

Speaker 21 (01:44:37):
Yeah, we told him he's on to have to play
the best defense he ever has, and that takes it
out of you. On the offensive end, he struggled a
little bit offensively tonight, but the way that he kept
competing and his mental toughness to not let that affect
him was just outstanding. And he played one of the
best defensive games I think he ever played really to
limit Shrek and took the challenge.

Speaker 9 (01:44:57):
And I'm really proud of him. He's been a great player,
great senior leader.

Speaker 2 (01:45:01):
Out standing lou anything else for that's it.

Speaker 3 (01:45:02):
Coach, Hey, we're happy to see you go Friday, and
we're gonna be there to to call the game and
hopefully get to talk to you after another win.

Speaker 9 (01:45:09):
All right, sounds good. Thank you guys, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:45:11):
Congrats, thank you, agains Ain't trace head coach Tyler Cassity
just just outstanding.

Speaker 3 (01:45:19):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:45:20):
You can just hear in his voice a little bit
about how proud he was of his of his kids,
and the way he challenged him in halftime and the
way they stepped up to it, and and and you know,
I thought the message was very fair. Look, this is
the way the game is gonna be. We're gonna have
to step to the forefront and play. And boy did
they ever in the second half.

Speaker 3 (01:45:37):
And like he said, he surprised him a little bit. Again.
I knew it was gonna be a physical game, and
as I said, they've got to be able to accept that.
And Nate, boy, they accepted. And then some I mean,
like I said before, I'm gonna be swor tomorrow. I
know they're going to be sor tomorrow. But you know
what you get like this and that sowredness goes away
pretty quick. Yeah, I think we're gonna get a chance
to talk to LJ here in a second, once they're

(01:45:59):
done with this photo. I'd like to talk to him.
We haven't got chance to talk to him all year, Loan,
but I like to talk to him about going to
Athens home Friday.

Speaker 2 (01:46:08):
Well, no doubt about tell you what they're taking some pictures, Sidney,
Why don't we step away for a one minute time
out and we'll come back and hopefully have some more

to forty five to advance the Friday's District championship against
mempher Down at the Convo in Athens. A six fifteen
start We are joined by Zane Trace, point guard senior
Landon Daryland, And first of all, I just, uh, I

(01:47:48):
just have a high level respect for your ability to
come through the injury and come back and blend in
the way you have and then and then really lift
your team in the second half. Talk to us a
little bit about that. I just kind of be personal
for a second, if you will, just kind of out
top the road backs has been and then how rewarding
it is to be here with your guys tonight in
this type of environment.

Speaker 9 (01:48:06):
Oh, it's definitely.

Speaker 14 (01:48:06):
It's definitely been tough, you know, back to back years
getting hurt, it's been mentally challenging, you know, but just
being here for my guys and doing what I can do.
And then we went into halftime, and the first half,
me and a couple of the seniors really really weren't
playing the level we need to be playing, just the
juniors really, and a coach came up to us.

Speaker 9 (01:48:27):
He challenged us. He said, it starts with you three seniors, And.

Speaker 14 (01:48:32):
He's like, if we're gonna win this game and come back,
we gotta have you guys step up. And I think
that's what we did in the second half.

Speaker 2 (01:48:38):
Well, take me through that second half a little bit.
I thought there's two things that jumped out at me.
One was the physicality that you guys answered in the
second half, and then two, I thought you hit a
couple of big shots there early on. You could really
sense the crowd behind us here get going and it
had to be a good feeling to see that ball
go through there and then three pointer and then and
then the pull up jumper.

Speaker 14 (01:48:56):
Uh, definitely, it really helps with the crowd. You know,
we feel we uh we uh feed off of them.
You know, when everyone's coming, everyone's here. Pakstan's student section
is really really loud. But yeah, the physicality. We went
into halftime and coach was like, they're playing harder than you.
There's nothing I mean straightforward is that they're playing harder
than you and you're not playing hard enough. And so

(01:49:18):
we really, uh, you know, we really focused on the fiscality,
getting rebounds, boxing out. I think we did a really
good job on last second half, especially Gunner mccallough really
big rebounds there in the in the fourth quarter, and
then you know, we just really want to get back
to the convo. That was the goal, you know, get
these juniors. Get these sophomores back, get these seniors, get
them back to the convo. You know, us senior are

(01:49:40):
the only ones that I've played there, So it's a
it's an experience, and we want them guys to experience
it well.

Speaker 3 (01:49:45):
And then you get twenty wins on your senior campaign
here and you're going to the Combo. And that was
gonna be my question. Just talk about the feeling of
going back in your senior year and what that's gonna mean.

Speaker 14 (01:49:57):
Uh, it means everything to us seniors. We talked before
the season and and uh we said, no matter what,
our last game can't be on.

Speaker 9 (01:50:06):
A high school floor.

Speaker 14 (01:50:08):
We wanted to be on the combo or or you
know what, We just don't wanted to be on a
high school floor and do everything we can and fight
every single night because we're fighting for our career in
another game, you know what I mean.

Speaker 9 (01:50:18):
So just everything we got and we just I'm just
glad to be back.

Speaker 2 (01:50:25):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:50:25):
Was this the most physical game you guys have played
all year? Because it was awfully physical out there.

Speaker 15 (01:50:30):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (01:50:32):
Yeah, it was probably one of the most physical games
we played all year. They got they got a lot
of football players lost strong guys, so we had to
get used to that and they really let us play,
so you know, we like that.

Speaker 15 (01:50:43):
And then so.

Speaker 3 (01:50:45):
Yeah, well it's been a pleasure to watch you all
year long as you come back from that injury and
it's just been a joy. And best luck to you
on Friday.

Speaker 9 (01:50:52):
Thank you, sir.

Speaker 2 (01:50:53):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (01:50:53):
You're welcome.

Speaker 2 (01:50:54):
Look forward to calling it. Best luck to you, Yes, sir,
thank you. Yeah, that's Zane Trace, senior point guard Leanne
and Jarrol, and I just can't say enough for his
ability to come back. It's not easy. Like this was
a basketball team that was playing pretty well earlier in
the year. Obviously, he comes back in as their best
player and he mixes right in. But just to talking
to the young man, you can kind of sit in

(01:51:14):
his character and you kind of start to understand why
it happened so quickly.

Speaker 3 (01:51:18):
Yeah, I mean, he's a class act, there's no doubt
about it. Great leader, and you know, you just want
to see good things happen to good people. And you know,
tonight what fun. I mean, no doubt about it. You
and I had fun calling this game, and it was
a great high school basketball game to watch.

Speaker 2 (01:51:34):
Well, we talked about it. There been a whole bunch
of basketball, so we've gotten tonight in the books. We
come back to Southeastern tomorrow night at eight thirty. Pregame
right around eight fifteen. I'll be uni Ode on the
Division four side against Fairfield Union. Wednesday night eight thirty
down at Jackson again, pregame round eight fifteen, I'll be
Huntington trying to get them to the convo. Now we
know Zane Trace is going to fill into the Friday

(01:51:57):
spot at six fifteen, and then we'll wait and see
if we get in anybody else to win. But they
keep winning, We'll keep calling them. It's a lot of fun.
And then I certainly look forward to Friday night down
the convo.

Speaker 3 (01:52:07):
Yeah, I'll have to reintroduce my wife to me. Maybe
sometimes Saturday it would be fine with me. But again
it's try to go home and get some beauty sleep
for us and then come back at it the morning.
Well we're even throwing in first week of high school
baseball practice. It's true, that's true.

Speaker 2 (01:52:20):
So it's quite the week. I can't thank you enough.
