Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is high school basketball on ninety four Country w KKJ.
Now let's head the game say for today's pregame show
on ninety four Country.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Good evening, everyone, and welcome inside the convo here in
Athens on the campus of Ohio University. I'm Shane Colmes
alongside Lou Postage and you're listening to SBC coverage brought
to you by Hernstein Hundai here on ninety four Country WKKJ.
And tonight's matchup has the Zane Trace Pioneers going for
a Division five District championship and they'll go up against

(00:35):
the very talented bunch of Falcons from Memford High School.
Zane Tray Centers with a twenty and four overall mark
Minford at twenty two and one, and Lou as I
welcome you and first of all, hit your voices. Hoy I. I
heard your late Night with Lou last night. This is
your fifth straight night. I actually got a night off
last night and enjoyed listening to you and Jacob called
the Unio to win. Congratulations to the Sherman's there on
their D four district title. Tonight we try to go

(00:58):
back to back and get Zamee true to the Sweet
sixteen as well. We'll talk about Zane Trace here in
just a minute. But tonight's opponent Minford. I know you
and I both were talking off the air. When you
turn the film on, boy, is some talent pop off
back at you.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
It sure doesn't. And again, it's a program that has
been good here the last couple of years. They won
a lot of ball games over that, and you know,
they've had some talented players that have been a part
of that. As you said, we talked about Miles Montgomery
having an outstanding career there at Minford and he's a
senior this year and also a senior Bennett Kaser. He's

(01:33):
done a wonderful job there for them as well. And boy,
this is an explosive offensive team. You look at how
much they're averaging a game, seventy one point four game.
That's a lot of points in high school basketball. I
always thought if we could get to fifty, we could
win some ball games. You get to seventy one, you're
gonna win an awful lot of ball games. And this
team is twenty two and one, and that's the reason why.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Well, and ironically, you know they lose seventy one to
sixty nine in their one game they lose the war.
You talked about Montgomery and cas are obviously really really talented.
Montgomery a year ago third team All Ohio Honorable mention
twenty three and nineteen respectively as juniors, and both of
them are going to be right back on those teams
again this year, obviously with the team's success they've had.

(02:15):
But over on his Zany Trace side, we talked about
the ability to be very balanced, to be very efficient,
which I think will be huge in this matchup tonight,
and they can come at you a lot of different ways.
I thought they really really proved something to themselves and
a lot of people from a physicality standpoint in the
second half of the Ironton matchup last week kind of
talked to us about Dan Trace a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah, that was really I said, that was one of
the emphasis going into Monday's game was except that physicality
and bring it right back, and that's what they did.
And even their coach Cassid and Tyler Cassidy was telling
us after the game that even surprised him a little bit.
So what does that mean for this team going forward
and their mentality? You know what, they're very confident right now.

(02:57):
They're very confident with each other, they play well together,
they're very confident in their abilities, and they're very confident
as a team that they can accept anything other teams
throw at them and be able to be successful. That's
a great mentality you have at this time of the year.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Let's talk about this facility for a second, and then
we'll tie it into the ballgame. You know, obviously in
the Southeast District, this is the grand stage, right this
is what everybody works for. I know, growing up coming
to basketball camp down here, and then you know, being
I was lucky enough as a player to be here
four years, and as a coach and as a fan
or what just every year you look forward to coming
down here. But from the game standpoint, sometimes when you

(03:34):
play your first game down here, the shooting background, the
size of the arena, all those those different things, I
thought it played a little bit of role. From listening
to you guys last night, maybe with some shooting in
the first quarter with those two twos. Am I looking
too far into that? Do you feel like there's something
to that it.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Can get overwhelming by you know, no means is this
a normal setting. It is a very nice place to
play basketball, and it can get overwhelming. You have the
the backdrops are much different than high school gymnasiums. You
have the openness of the arena itself, and then you
look down at the floor. You have two separate three

(04:09):
point lines and that's a big thing because a lot
of times kids are just you know, looking not down
at the floor, but you know, seeing out of the
corner of their eye where that three point line is
and you see a black line there that is much
farther back than a white line which is their three
point line. So again, a lot of things to get
used to on this floor once that happens, and some

(04:31):
teams it takes maybe a quarter. Some teams it they
don't adjust to it well at all. The teams that
do are successful here, well.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
It makes total sense. So got an outstanding facility. We
got a pair of twenty win basketball teams. Shane colms
Lou postage and we'll step aside here and we'll be
back to take a closer look at tonight's matchup as
Zang Trason Minford. You listen to hernsliind Hundai SECE Game

(06:15):
at the Knight's matchup Zane Trace and Memphord Dare. In
the first segment we kind of talked about both teams
a little bit. We talked about the facility. Let's dive
into more of the head to head match up here tonight.
You mentioned in that first segment Memphord scoring seventy one
points a games, Zane Trace about fifty seven. You know,
we talked about getting to fifty having a chance to win.
Obviously with this Memphord team, that's gonna be quite a

(06:36):
defensive chore. Give me an idea of the tempo Zane
Trace needs to play. Is it gonna take about fifty
six fifty eight points to win if they can get
the game in the tempo they want?

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Again, their team Zaint Trey's giving up only forty three
points a game. Now, does that mean you're gonna hold
a Memphord team to forty three? Probably not. I mean
that team's really good offensively. If you could hold that
team right around fifty, I think you get a really
good shot of winning this game. Now, what does that
mean and how you do you really gotta make them
work for their offensive possessions. Do you have two legitimate scorers,

(07:06):
who are you gonna put on them? I think you
probably go to landon Robinson, maybe on Montgomery, and then
maybe even a McCullough on a Kaser. You may move
that stuff around a little bit, but again those two
are gonna have to accept the role of playing against
some good offensive firepower. Now that being said, this Meantphor
team does like to get it in the lane and

(07:28):
then kick it out. Well, you can't let them in
the lane all the time, and then you can't allow
those open kickouts. They're gonna shoot a lot of threes.
I've gone through some of the games. They've had multiple
games where they had twenty plus threes in a game.
What does that mean for that long rebounds? You're gonna
get long rebounds where you have to box out, But

(07:48):
you also have to have the mentality to go get
that ball. You can't let that ball just go. You
have to go get it. And now you might have
some opportunities offensively to get a quick runout and get
an easy bucket on the other end. So all those
things put together, I think if you go hold him
run around fifty, then they're right in this ball game.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
You've made some interesting points to me throughout the year
where we're calling games together, we've seen some outstanding duos,
and a lot of times an outstanding duo, you know
they'd get thirty four, thirty six, thirty this duo, now
you go get fifty five to sixty if they get
off on you. So take me through that game plan
a little bit, because I know you talked to me
earlier in the postseason about how sometimes you got to
pick your poison and you can't let everything get off.

(08:30):
So one way to get that seventy one down to
maybe that fifty five a is total is at least
get one of these stars under control. Take me through
in the mindset of a coach Cassidy there as he's
trying to game plan for two tailing the young match.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
And again probably the one that you're thinking about there
is Kaser not allowing him to get some second shot
opportunities inside, making sure you box out and don't let
him get going. And also maybe he does like to
go out and shoot some maybe force him outside there
to readjust their offensive games make them uncomfortable. If you

(09:03):
can make them uncomfortable, then they're not going to be
getting their you know, thirty twenty plus games.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Well, it should be a really good one. Coming up
on a bottle of minute ago. We'll step aside one
more time. It's Zane Trace. It's mean for for a
Division five district championship. You're listening to Hernstein Hunday, SBC

Welcome back to the combo down here in Athens, Ohio
on the campus of High University. Shane COLEMs, Lou postage.
It's Division five district championship action with Zane Trace and
Minford preparing to go Bible. And as they like to
say here at the combo, let's go to the starting lineups.
We'll take a look first for the top seeded Falcons
of Mimford. They go with senior point guard Kate Glockner,

(13:20):
sophomore guard Ashton Reader, Miles Montgomery, the very talented five
to ten senior, and I will play some point. He
will also play off the ball a little bit, very
very talented thirteam Ohio a year ago, big time score.
Then at the forward positions it's Jackson Shoemaker, a six
four senior, and Bennett Caser, who was again was a
special mention Ohio a year ago. He's a six to

(13:42):
sixth senior. So again for coach Shoemaker, it's Glockner, Reader,
Montgomery Shoemaker and occasion petoach Cassidy and is twenty and
four as Aine Trace Pioneers running the show. At the
point guard is senior Landon Gerald. The back court mates
of Grady Stewart and Ezra Rippeth. Stewart a jor Rippeth

(14:03):
a senior the kind of do it all point forward
or you'll see them all over the floor. Land and
Robinson the six to two senior, and then in the
post the six to two junior gunner. Mccaulaugh comes in
leading the Pioneers and scoring at fourteen a game. Again
for coach Cassidy, it's Gerald, Stuart, Rippeth, Robinson and mccaula.

(14:25):
Zane Trace will be in their road blue with Minford
in the home white. Menford's home white with the red
numerals there and the red on blue for Zane Trace
on the other side. As they huddle up, come together.
As now Memford's being introduced in lou You take a
look here the first two or three minutes that when

(14:46):
you're playing a team is explosive. As Menford, I really
think establishing the temple, you know, getting off to a
good start. It's always a common sense thing to say.
But in this particular matchup, Memford's not the type of
team you want to let them run out early.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
No, they're season team. They've got a lot of victories
over the last couple of years. I think last year
they got to this point if I'm not mistaken. So
they're a team that's been here and if you're Zane Trace,
you're a team. You know you talk about, hey, it's
another basketball game, but you know it is a moment
and you got to seize that moment and accept that, hey,

(15:20):
this moment is not too big for us. We can
do this. And that's what Zane Trace has gotta basically accept.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Here well about ready to go here Shan colmbs lou postage.
We're seated opposite of the benches right at the top
of the first deck here at the combo looking down
with Memphor moving our right to left with Zane Trace
coming back left the right. As we call this first
half action, looks like it'll be KASR. Mccaullough. Ready to

(15:47):
decide who will take possession of the basketball. First officials
check with one another, check over to the scorer's table.
Everybody's ready to go. The ball goes up and we're
gonna get this Division five district title game underway, and
it's gonna be the Falcons with first possession. Montgomery will

(16:07):
be in possession of it. Across the timeline. He'll take
the left hand dribble to a dribble entry, gonna play
a little two main game. Rejects the ball screen there
from Shoemaker. Now it's Kaser out top. Kas are on
the penetration, gonna be guarded there by Robinson now on
Shoemaker has it in the right corner. He drives hard
into the middle, tries to spin back and he's gonna
get called for the offensive file. Mccaullaugh does a nice job.

(16:29):
He squared up Shoemaker, really physical love there on the
spin and good start for Zain Trace.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
It was McCullough got a great spot to take that charge.
But again, I like the defensive matchups. As I look
out there on the floor, you said landon Robinson on Kaser,
and you had Rippeth on a Montgomery. And then as
we looked out there, I saw Lyndon.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Jarroll on Kayser coming across the timeline. Now Zane Trace
has it as they breaks a little bit of token
full court man pressure from Memphord. Mccaulla has it at
the yelbow, nothing there, turns kicks it back out. Jeryl
thought about the three. Now they're going to try to
isolate McCalla down the block. They get it to him there,

(17:09):
hand off to cutting Stewart baseline kick Rippe cut off
there by. Montgomery now ripe reverses to the baseline, shot
up midrange, no good rebound. Steward Zane Trace is gonna
get a second possession. Drops a beautiful bounce pass and
McAll and lays it in and Zane Trace on the
board first they leave it to nothing.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Yeah, great extended possession there by gritty.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Stewart Montgomery across the timeline here. Now Kaser has it
cas a crossover. He'll take the mid range, jumping from
the left elbow and got it. That's the six to
sixth size able to create his own shot.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Yeah, he can really elevate and get over top of
people who get that shot off again.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Men Ford will pick up in the full court Man Robinson,
that versatility's gonna be guarded by K's are gonna be
able to bring him out way from the basket here
a little bit. Now I'll give way to Jarl Jarald
guarded by reader. Now McAll a high it at the
left point. Jane Trace pushing the offense way out high
Menphord not really extending out much with them. Stewart has
it at the point. Stuart off the right hand drib.

(18:09):
We're gonna drive hard. Now kicks right corner to Rippeth.
He turns down a three and another beautiful bounce past
the mccaulla. Mccaull active on the baseline and Rippeth was
good vision here on the first two possessions.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
One thing Menford does a lot defensively is they will
switch screens and there can be some matchups that Zane
Trees can really get in favor for them.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
So McCall with two early laps, back comes Minford. Montgomery's
drive too strong. Shoemaker on the board, puts it back up,
nice touch on the jump hook and we're tied at forward.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Yeah, that's that second chance opportunity you got limit too's.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Jerald brings it up cross over now across the timeline.
Good ball pressure there from reader Jerald directing traffic. Jane
Trace will do a lot of quick hitters and and
they'll run a lot of different sets. They wanted Robinson
on the back door or nothing there now. Jerrol will
reset again, rips through to the right hand, drives to
the block, shot up off the glass. No good fight

(19:04):
for the loose ball going toward the Memford bench and
the officials checking with one another, and they're gonna give
the ball to Mimford.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
Again, nice aggressive offense there, Landon Daryld taking it to
the hole. Didn't fall for him in that time.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Just three minutes in, tied at four. Shang Colms Loop
Postage Division five District Championship here on WKKJ ninety four country,
appreciate you being with us. A little give and go action.
He gets a little bit of extended pressure and Montgomery
gets it back and he goes and gets the hoop
and the horn lays it in and he's gonna go
to the free throw line as well.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
That was a quick way to break that three quarter
court press. He made one pass, one cut, and he
was at the bucket and got an end one.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Amazing, very explosive young man in terms of quickness and strength,
plays a game with a high IQ. You can certainly
see why he's had the decorated career that he's still
going here trying to extend it. Another game here tonight
seven four free throw good and Minford on top by three.
Jerald bring it up this time guarded by Montgomery. Ni's

(20:12):
across the timeline with the behind the back dribble, gives
away to mccaulla. Caul Of goes left side. It's rip it,
rip it up top to Jerald gets Zane Trace with
good patience early on drops it in the middle post
to McCall and McCall and will drive right by Shoemaker
to the left hand. Great move, just couldn't finish out
comes Montgomery with it.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Yeah, it was a great move.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Blockner on the left side. Three point try no good
Robinson with the rebound, He's trapped in the back hord.
He tries to throw it out of there, deflect it
out of bounds, and it's gonna be Zay Trace ball
blue Even there on the misshot Memphord's showing you the
ability to get right into the pressure.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Yeah, they do not give up on it. They stay
after it and maybe try to get a quick steal,
just like we almost fall again.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah, they mbound to McCall and man, I just don't
think you can you can appreciate the size of him
until you know the first two or three minutes you
play against some Caser there at six six with the
long wingspan. He gets in that trap. That's tough.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
Yeah, you know, Landon Robinson's a pretty good sized kid,
and compare right up next to Kaser, he looks.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
A little small, so now we're one on one. Now
the running jump comes, good spacing from Zane traces, they
break it. Jerald's got it up on the left side.
He drives hard, kicks it back out. Robinson made the
extra pass. But great close outs from Memford. Oh wow,
that was contact in the post. Two guys go to
the floor. We just play on. I'm not a wrestling official,

(21:37):
so I'm not I'm not qualified to say who gets
the point.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Wow, and you see two guys go down in the
middle of the lane, that's gotta be something.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
We did have a Montgomery file away from the ball,
so again that could be significant. That's his first file
here three fifty seven, first quarter.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
And as I talked about, those switches get Minford into
some matchups, like right now, Montgomery sometimes gets matched up
against mccaullough. You got to take advantage of that.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Stuart has it on the right side, cross over the
left hand, gets to the middle, kick out, three ball
attempt for Rippeth. Then he's got it. Nice job Stewart
on the penetration. Great stroke from rippis tight at seven.
That comes Memford. Montgomery has it now he backs out
to the owen Ohio right just shy of mid court.

(22:26):
Now gives way to Shoemaker at the point. Days are
nothing now on the curl. Now Montgomery comes in. He'll
take a deep three outs. We well well beyond the
College Street. No good rebound Robinson his ay trace up
court to mccaulough. Now gives way to Stuart. Stuart cross
over to the left hand back out Rippas thought about
another three. Now Stuart will shoot a left side three

(22:47):
and he got it back to back three balls from
his ain trace and the Pioneers up ten to seven.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
And tell you what they see that second line. It
doesn't face.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
Them left side. Glockner now back up to Shoemaker, kasrazing
on the right side, right hand dribble to the baseline,
fifteen foot pull up, No good, Jarrel was Zane trace
again member even on the missile trap in the back court.
This time Zane trace able to break it. Robinson into
the open court a little bit. Now he'll take a

(23:16):
top of the key three. No good. Montgomery with the
rebound membher is going to look the push. Montgomery behind
the back stop crossover pulled up fifteen feet, No good, Stuart,
Jane Trace on the rebound back come the Pioneers long
passed down the middle to McCall in on the On
the rip through, he was bumped by Shoemaker. So it's

(23:38):
going to be a obi under opportunity for the Pioneers.
As they lead at ten seven to twenty five to
go first quarter.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
Laculla has been taken down and there he almost got
a hip bump all the way into the uh basket
standard Jara.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Will be the inbound guy as member went to the
bch there Curtis Glenn into the game backside to go
into Robinson. He's got a little twelve foot or a
little lean in runner and he knocks it down. Time
out Vnford As Dane Trace goes up twelve to seven
and it's a short one. We'll stay here, you know.

(24:15):
So right off the bat, I feel like for the
most part, other than the one Shoemaker put back you
talked about Zamee Trace on the defensive class that's a
good check so far. And then obviously it helps when
you knock down the perimeter shot, which you know Ripeth
and Stewart were able to do well.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
They're taking great advantage of some of the matchups they're getting.
They're finding mcculloughy inside against maybe some shorter people, and
they have to continue to do that. I'm not a
big fan of switching, you know. I think you can
either go under or over and on bass screen and
stay with your guy. You want to have those matchups
for a reason, and you know if you do those switchings,
you're gonna get into some bad matchups.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Yeah, that's an interesting point you made, because I think
there's some nights against certain teams when you switch up,
maybe you don't get paid. Zame Trace is a very
difficult team because one through five what's the word we
always use with Dane Trace, versatility, depth, things like that.
So they are a very difficult team to switch against.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Yes, they are now the Meantford team. I like the
matchup Zane Trace has on them, so I don't think
we need to and we, being Zane Trace, need to
do any of that major switching on those ball screens.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Back to action. It's Meantford basketball. Is Zane Trace the
front twelve to seven. Montgomery brings it up guarded by ripping.
Now he hands off case are right into a about
a fourteen footer, right up over the top and again
knocks it down right out the time out well executed
by the Falcons. Twelve nine's ain't trace lead to three?

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Yeah. The thing with Kaser is his elevation on those
jump shots. He's way above the defenders.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
Robinson across the timeline. Kaser tried to buy one. There
nothing doing with the officials, So we'll play on. Robinson
now directing traffic left hand, dribbled comes left side Stewart.
Stewart thought about a three now penetrates kicks it right side. Jerrold.
Robinson had it up top. He'll waive Jerrold back it again.
Zane Trace not in a hurry, playing with some good tempo.

(26:06):
There's a double screen. Steward up top. He'll try a
three ball and got it well executed, good good double screen,
a little staggered screen and Jarrold hits him on time and
a knockdown shooter and Stewart.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
You like to see that. He's very comfortable with the city.
It seems like.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Here fifteen nine z Ay and Trace by six back
comes Kazers shot, fake drives, hard kicks at the reader,
then he lays it in again. Bennett Kays are showing
the full arsenal here in the first quarter. Yeah, that
was a great look. Fifteen eleven Zane Trace coming up
on one minute to play here in the opening quarter.
It's been a good quarter for the Pioneers. Let's see

(26:42):
if they can execute time and score. Stewart will back
it up closer to the timeline. Now we'll take a
high ball screen from mcaulla, who'll actually reject the ball
screen and kick it to Robinson down to forty eight.
See if Zane Trace is going to hold it all
the way down here, because member it's not really extended
with him.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
No, And I think this is a good move here
by Zane Trace, because they're right on the mark. I
mean right now. Minford only eleven points here this quarter.
You keep them around to eleven a quarter, then you're
under the fifty.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
Gotta be careful. I'll pick up the dribble. Now they
lose it, out comes Montgomery with it. Minford has numbers
Montgomery into the open court. He lays it in costly turnover.
Fifteen to thirteen Zamee Trace. They'll come back with twenty
seconds to shoot trap in the back court. Now they
get up to mccaulough, he'll turn and dribble across the
timeline give it back to Jerald. Now we're at twelve

(27:29):
eleven in County Jaral asking for the high ball screen
from mccaulough. Now he's just gonna go ahead and go
one on one, crosses over into the middle. Stuart right
corner three, no good backside fight for the read on
Maculla as the horn sounds, and that's going to do it.
As we come to the end of the first quarter.
Zae Trace fifteen, Minford thirteen. Shane combs Loo posted you're

Welcome back to the con though, Shane Holmes Lou posts
Division five District Championship Action want to thank a Dina
Health for all the support during the postseason. Trail and Lou.
Take a look at the first quarter numbers Other than
that Lake turn over. Pretty good storting for Zane.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Trace Yeah both team six of eleven shooting fifty five
percent and big difference. Ain't Trace three of five from
beyond the arc Minford zero four to two.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Jane Trace Law possession to start, they must turn it
over in the back court. Now they get it back.
Now they'll go left side no Houston and the game
three ball no good. Stewart comes flying in tip no good.
Out comes Minford with a Montgomery into the upping court.
Boy does he get into in a hurry?

Speaker 3 (29:40):
He is quick.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
Zane Trace, pretty good job transition d gets back. Now
Montgomery into the middle, splits about three Pioneers and lays
it in. Nicely done.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
He can get through some cracks really quickly and get
in those. Get in the lane for easy buckets.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
Tied at fifteen. Back come the Pioneers against the Minford pressure.
Pretty good or spacing the Pioneers break it of top Jerald.
Now it's right side Stewart. Stewart trying to get it
into mccaulough. He gets it there against Glenn. Back out
to Stuart. Now Stuart will drive hard and they're gonna
get Minford for a hole there on the drive. Lou,

(30:15):
you're telling me we might have some special guests here
at the hat. We will.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
We'll have Cayden cut Rights, Lake Coops and kJ P
Perkins will come down and discuss their district final, their
district championship from last night. They were down there celebrating
on the court for a while, which is fine. We
didn't get a chance to talk to coach Combs or
the players, so we'll have them come down here and

(30:40):
discuss how that game went.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Zane Trace back in possession of the basketball, tied at
fifteen six fifty seven to go. First half again, Zane
Trace pushed all the way out really by design, not
that they're being pushed out. Mccoula has at about seventeen
feet shot too strong. K's are out with the rebound,
He'll just turn and, pushing himself well, gets to the
right hand, splits two Pioneer defenders and lays it in

(31:03):
at the round.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Coach the coach again, they're very good at getting into
the paint, as I talked about earlier, and they've got
to be able to limit.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
Those the time out on the floor. We'll stay here
this time, even though it's a full and I wanted
to ask you Lou there at the end of the
first quarter, I thought Zane Trace had played a really
good quarter. When they did decide to hold it for
the final, I thought it was the right decision. They
got a little sloppy. I thought that was a costly
turnover I had on my notes fifteen eleven, Zane Trace
had the possessionaire to start the second quarter and ended

(31:31):
up turning it over and Menford. That was a big
basket for Memford there to end. That's the first.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Quarter, and it was a momentum switch because from about
fifteen to eleven has now's got to six points, so
now it's seventeen to fifteen Minford. So yeah, that was
a big momentum switch there right at the end of
the first quarter. And this Minford team can do that.
They can go on spurts, so you want to limit them.
Great time out here by Zane Trace to try to
calm everyone down, get back to reemphasizing what you need

(31:57):
to do and le bit better offensive looks ho for
two to start this quarter is zan Tracey after coming
out of a fifty five percent shooting quarter in the
first quarter, So hopefully settle down a little bit and
take care of the basketball.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
You and you were reading your totals there, I think
you said that Zamee Trace should knocked down some triples
there in the first quarter. Minford has started to close
out with a little bit more urgency. Would you like
to see Zane Trace try to put it on the
floor and get to the room a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Yes, I think with maybe some shot fakes. Now you
can go to the bucket after draining a few of those,
especially a guy like Grady Stewart. Back to action.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Here's Aine Trace ball in the full court. They'll get
it back to Robinson and Minford or and Caser just
takes it away from him in the open court. You
don't see that very often. He lays it in nineteen
fifteen Menford. A little bit of a danger time here
for Zane Trace. As they turn it over again, Montgomery
has it. Montgomery kicks it up top Glockner out right
side Glenn. Now Minford will be into the half court set.

(32:58):
They force a little bit of a switch there. Off
the ball all Montgomery the deep free from the left side.
No good. Stewart had inside position but got pushed under
a little det Glynn with a put back fast. Now
twenty one to fifteen. Mempher.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Yeah, that run has now got up to ten after
one turnover in the first quarter. Is in trees.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
Now has three to start this quarter. Jerald highball stream
there for mccaullaugh. Balling's up all the way in the
corner to Robinson. Down load to a cutting mccaullaugh and
they get called for a file. Let's see who they
get there.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Yep, I believe that's on Montgomery. That's going to be
his second.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Yeah, that's a big, big call. So five forty eight.
Let's see what Memphor decides to do here again, five
forty eight on the first half, click twenty one to fifteen.
Memphor as mccaullaugh goes to the free throw line, first
free throw good gunner shoots it right around sixty four

(33:58):
to sixty five percent from the line. Throughout the again
comes in leading a very balanced and Jane Trace attack
at fourteen points a game, Stuart just behind him at thirteen,
and then Jero and Robinson at nine second free throw
good much needed possession there for Zane Trace. Twenty one
to seventeen.

Speaker 3 (34:17):
Pioneers within four exactly stop that ten over run.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
That comes Montgomery. Now playing with the two fouls, they'll
swing it over the left side. Readers got it Okays
are down on the left base line, left hand dribble,
pull up jumper, No good, McCall of Zamee Trace at
the rebound. Now Robinson has it. Robinson sees the trap
start to come. Now gives way to Stuart. Stewart drives

(34:43):
hard to the right hand, kicks it back out. Jarro
will try a three too strong, blocking her up for
the rebound for Memford and out comes Montgomery with it.
Montgomery a little stop and go at the three point line.
Good job there by ripples to keep him in front.
Now up top it's Kazer right hand gets all the
way to the rim, shot up off the glass. No
good McCall at the rebounds, ain't trace. Would have some

(35:05):
numbers opportunity if they can go. Stewart has it on
the right side, drives hard to the baseline, then he
throws it away. Out come the Falcons. Montgomery into the
middle of the court, crosses over the left hand right
hand back Hasia with a put back basket. Good wow.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Again in that elevation, just getting up there above everyone
to get that rebound.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
Twenty three seventeen Falcons by six Jarl one on one
with reader now crossed the timeline four point thirty to
go first half. Jerald to the right hand gets downhill,
little runner up off the glass. No good. Mccaulla had
inside position. Look I think they got Glenn on.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
The push off there. Yeah, they did, and he did.
I mean he used his one arm to keep McCullough
underneath the buckets.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
So at twenty three seventeen membered by six dant, Trace
will have an obi under looks like jeral will be
your inbound man. Zane Trace going to a box up
ball side corner into mccaulough. They try to bring Stewart
up to nothing there now the good way to Robinson.
Robinson looks into the post there to mccaulough and Glenn

(36:13):
comes around and pokes it away. Out comes Montgomery with it.
Montgomery inside out dribble at the wing, gets all the
way to the rim. The official is going to say
that the foul happened on the drive as he's pointing
back to right around the ten to twelve foot mark
in the mid range game. So it's gonna be a
common file on Zane Trace.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Stewart on the foul. Tell you what with two fouls?
Montgomery loves it. Taken to the bucket. Z ain't Tracy can
just slide in there and get a charge. You're going
to get one.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Certainly would be a game changer here because we stall
four minutes ago in the first half. They go opposent
corner to Glenn. Glenn tries to drive hard on the
baseline and he's gonna step on the inline. We're gonna
go the other way with it.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
Yeah, that's only two turnovers from Minford, but again five
turnovers this quarter for Zane Trace. They've got a limit
that did a really good job in the first quarter,
and now it's sort of taken over.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
Again. In the full court. Memford picks up man. Now
they'll play out one on one Steward across the timeline
here against Glockner goes right wing. It's jail. Jerl calls
mccaull out. Now they'll play a little two man game.
Jerald's just gonna step back and shoot the three, and
that's a deep one that goes triple for Land and

(37:32):
Jeril cuts the lead in half. Now member by three
at twenty three twenty.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
Yeah, that was one of those switches where the they
switched and the defense didn't come out on them.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Now coming back the other way, Kazer has it up top.
It's a little flair stream for Montgomery. Pretty well defended
there by Zane Trace. Now Kay's are on the right
side again. Memphord trying to get people in the right position.
They want to try to isolate Montgomery Kaser into two
man game. Montgomery drive, it's hard to the baseline, shot up,
blocked by Robinson, he gets Montgomery gets it backs. That's

(38:06):
a deep three. It's short. Rebell McCalla in on the outlet.
It's a scramble for the ball. Memphord comes up with
it and a lay up by Montgomery again, Zane Trace
turning it over in the back court after they got
to stop and Menford takes advantage and lays it into
go up twenty five to twenty.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
Yeah, And that's exactly what they do on the defense.
They just try to scramble after miss shots. See what happens.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Stuart has it up top and again Zane Trace two
or three real costly live ball turnover has been the
difference in this one so far. Stuart hard on the drive,
kicks it out the rips in the corner. I don't
know if someone got a piece of that comes up short.
How comes Kaser with it behind the back, dribbles, he
crosses half court. Now he crosses over left corner. It's

(38:50):
clocking him back out to Montgomery. Flare screen for Kaser.
Now he drives with the right hand, he spins back
elbow jumper. Got it, Bennet Kayes are having quite a
first half here. Menford now by seven. In Montgomery takes
away the inbound, drops the bounce past the Kayser again.
Time out, Zaye Trace twenty nine to twenty Minford and man,

(39:12):
can they strike in a hurry. It's gonna be a
short and we'll stay here. And you know when you
ask yourself, man, a team sports seventy one points. That's impressive.
You watch them for about a quarter and you figure
out real quick how the tempo and their talent combined
to put up those types of numbers. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
I mean you made a little run back at him.
It was twenty three to twenty, and then next thing
you know, there's three buckets going for Minford's way before
you even get the ball down the floor. You gotta
limit those. I mean, right now the scoring is coming
from Kayser and Montgomery. I think if you just take
care of the ball, look up the floor and try
to get that quick outlet pass. They have guys that

(39:51):
are available, they're just not able to get it to
them right now. And they got to do a better
job at that I think.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
But when I when I listen to you in the pregame,
I get the impression from a coach's point. When Kaser
makes great shots from fifteen sixteen seventy heat, you tip
your cap. The ones that would drive you nuts is
to have the experience Zating Trace has. And there's been
three or four times they've simply just thrown the ball
and bounced to them.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
Yeah, you just can't give them opportunities. You got to
make them work for it. And you know, if Kaysner
makes a fifteen footer because he you know, jumped over people,
that's fine, but don't give them opportunities. And that's what's
happening too many times here in this first.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
Half twenty nine twenties, ain't Trace basketball. See if the
Pioneers can cut into this and finish the half strong.
Here is come up on the two minute mark, Stewart
still has it, tries to come up top to Jarl,
poked away by Montgomery. Jerald runs it down no, over
and back because of the Montgomery touch. Now McCall has

(40:47):
it up top, gives way to Houston. Now it's right
side Jarl Jerrold to Houston trying to get McCall in
the post there now Jarl fifteen pull up in and
out and back in and now it does fall. That
day was up on the rim forever, good shooters touch.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
Wow, that thing did go around every part of the
rim and then it just stopped for a second and
then fell in like a putt right at the end. Well,
maybe your putt twenty nine twenty two meant for by seven.
Ka's are hard drive to the right baseline, cut off
there by Houston back out top Vlackner out it's left side,
Glenn now into the corner.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
It's three der. Now it's back up. Kaser has a
ks or crosshoulder jump stop three pioneers. He raises up
good pretty good defense at time. Made it tough on
him when hebound Houston in the same trade. And they're
going to say he double dribbed in the back court.
I think what happens. He wanted to pick it up
and throw it. The RiPP of wasn't there, and the
put the ball back down and that was the double drive.

(41:48):
They said it rested in the hand too long.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
Yeah, speaking of putting, we have a large contingent of
people out there Jc's golf course listening to us says there. Yeah,
having some food and drink this Friday evening. Glad they're
listening in.

Speaker 2 (42:04):
Absolutely No, it's about that time with the weather this week.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
And sure is that sunshine makes things a lot better.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
Minford by seven forty seven seconds to go. Falcons in
possession of the basketball, the very talent to Montgomery across
the timeline. You gonna kind of wave off the ball screen.
Here were thirty eight seconds to go. I think Menford's
gonna try a little time and score themselves here to
see if they can take the last shot.

Speaker 3 (42:29):
Yeah, big offensive possession here for Minford. If you're z
ain't trace, you gotta limit them. You got plenty of
fouls here. You don't have to worry about putting them
on the line.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
Oh in Montgomery just in and out, in and out,
breaking the five count. We're down to sixteen seconds now.
He crosses back over rip with Thomas trying to give
a foul. I don't think they'll call one now. All
the way out. It's reader back out top ks or
left hand ribble pulls up at the three point line. Shot.
No good Glenn with the rebound put by basket. No

(43:01):
good fight for the loose ball, Glenn got it up
on the rim. I think it would have calend if
it went, but no good. Then we've arrived at halftime
then for twenty nine Zane Trace twenty two Division five

Welcome back Shane Colbs. Lou posted chair at the halftime
in Division five District Championship the Menford Falcons ahead of
Zany Trace twenty nine to twenty two, and we are
joined by the three Uniota seniors. Last night Division four
District champions and obviously down with the awards and the
net cutting and so forth, didn't get a chance to
talk to coach Colbs or some of the players. So

(46:29):
guys certainly appreciate how you coming in. KB Perkins, Blake Coops,
Kayden Cutt. Right, I'll start with UKB. You know that
the senior group, as the year goes on, you've always
seemed like a close group. There's something about the right
around Christmas time this year, as we got into January,
you guys seem to go to another level. Talk to
me about the chemistry and where you think things really
started to click for your team this year.

Speaker 18 (46:50):
Yeah, I think it's starting off coming down with the
new coach from back Holmes.

Speaker 3 (46:54):
It was really different for us for his seniors.

Speaker 18 (46:56):
But I think after the first loss against Miami and Churce.
I think after that game it kind of just really
opened our eyes up and we were like, dude, like
we got to go. This is our last ride here
with basketball. So I think after that game and especially
after Christmas time, I think our mindset's changed and we
got closer and our kind of shore. Also I want
to talk about with us kind of being the seniors

(47:18):
this year, we have to lead and stuff like that,
but not not really playing with some of the younger guys.
I mean a bunch of some of them still get
some time on JV, but just like Isaac cooy and
Jack Wells coming off the bench, not really playing with
those guys a lot, and uh, them coming off the
bench for us and playing a lot this year, we've
gotten really close to us.

Speaker 2 (47:37):
Yeah. Absolutely. Obviously depth's a big factor. And you know, Blake,
I think about you know, we talked a lot about
the condo. You know, talk to me about what it
means to kind of come down the year in this
stage last night. Uh, and I know individually you played
really really well, but really as the team, by about
the second quarter, you guys really kicked it into gear
and went to talk to me about the special experience

(47:58):
of getting to play in this place.

Speaker 3 (48:00):
It's special.

Speaker 19 (48:01):
Just being a little kid watching.

Speaker 3 (48:02):
The teams, Like when you were little, you.

Speaker 19 (48:04):
Just wanted to give you a conboy, you wanted to
play here. So just for us three seniors be able
to do it our last time, it's real special. And
we knew coming into the game they're a good talented team,
but we just had the right mindset, I think, and
I think that's really just ultimately got us those are.

Speaker 3 (48:21):
In a little win.

Speaker 2 (48:22):
Yeah, Blake, I'll stay with you on this one. You know,
now you take about a week off and and you
obviously this time of year, players want to play right.
You know, practice is practice or whatever, but it is
a it is a tough time to focus. Senior year,
You've seen your right as far as set in. What
what's the focus like, Blake, talk to me about, you know,
the practice forward kind of staying focused on the task
at hand.

Speaker 3 (48:42):
Over the next week, I.

Speaker 19 (48:43):
Mean, practices will probably be a little bit more lighter,
I mean, just a little bit more mental, I think,
but we'll still be getting after still.

Speaker 3 (48:51):
I mean we have a week to compare for our
next game.

Speaker 19 (48:54):
But I mean our goals don't change. Well, we're still
gonna play hard. It's still practice with the right mentality
this time.

Speaker 2 (49:00):
Absolutely, and Blake, I'll have you pass that over here
to Kane and KB. I had one more for you.
You you went through the awful injury last spring. Obviously,
as a baseball guy myself, I know what you mean
to our SBC Baseball League and it's been really cool
for me to see you fight back. Obviously at the
beginning of the year not one hundred percent and and
and I know you may not say this, I'll say

(49:20):
it for you. When you when you got back closer
to one hundred percent, that that obviously pushed the team
to another level. Talk to me individually about your road
back and and how good it feels to be I
assume closer to hundred percent. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (49:32):
Uh, when I first did it, it was it was tragic.

Speaker 2 (49:34):
Man. I didn't know what to do because.

Speaker 3 (49:36):
Uh, it's really sports in my life, That's what that's
what I do.

Speaker 18 (49:40):
So, uh, really just coming back from that and just
looking at these guys, and I told him I made
a promise to him.

Speaker 2 (49:45):
I said, I'll come back.

Speaker 18 (49:46):
I want to play my senior season with you guys.
And the rest of the team and just every day
going to therapy and doing stuff on my own. I
just a picture and playing with these guys here and
now that we're here, it's just a dreams.

Speaker 2 (49:57):
I'm true outstanding and then now joined by the senior
Kane Cover again. I got to start on the defensive end.
You know, it's just an absolute as a coach myself,
it's just an absolute pleasure to watch you work on
the defensive end. You've had kind of a breakout offensive
season two, but on the defensive end, you and Jackson
really make this group. Go talk to me about the
pride you taking that end and how you want to

(50:18):
impact things as a defendant.

Speaker 20 (50:20):
Yeah, we really take up pride of it with our leadership,
me and Jackson on the defensive side, it's really special
to be coach. Fits treaches it in practice like defensive
rebounding and we just try to, you know, lock in
on defense and hopefully our teammates take control.

Speaker 2 (50:39):
Of it as well. So the last question I'll let
you guys go enjoy the second half. You know, is
you look you individually throughout your career. You know, year
by year, your your your role starts to increase. This
year you've really had to break out. What's it meant
to you as a senior to be able to have
such an increased roll and really impact winning and get
to do it with your guys in this one.

Speaker 3 (51:00):
I mean, it's just a jim come true playing with
these seniors.

Speaker 20 (51:03):
And uh, I've always wanted to play like big time
high school varsity ball since I was little, And it
says in honor of my coaches for me in the
fot they do and trusting me.

Speaker 17 (51:16):
So I'm just very thankful.

Speaker 2 (51:19):
Well, guys, ain't congratulations, happy for you. We look forward
to covering you next week. Have a good week of
practice and best of luck next week. Yes, sir, thanks again,
KB Perkins, Blake Hoops, Caden Cutt Right, the three seniors
there of Uniota. Can't thank them enough for taking the

(51:41):
time here. As Lou said, Lou and Jacob without standing
call last night that didn't get a chance to talk
to them. So Bill, I thought that was cool that
all three of them got to come in and answer
a couple of questions and and go from there. You know.
Now back to the task at him. Here was Zane
Trace obviously down seven to a tough game. You know,
if I don't have an in front of me. But
wasn't it twenty nine to twenty two Iron ten at halftime?

(52:03):
So obviously Zane Trace has been here, done that. I
obviously this is a different opponent. But at the same time,
there's gotta be a little common composure in that locker
room knowing that they have come back from this in
the tournament run.

Speaker 3 (52:15):
Yeah, And I think it's just some things that Zane
Trace is doing themselves that they need to correct correct
and if they do so, they can get advantages on
Minford because Minford is just simply scrambling after mishots. I
think if they're getting down the floor a little quicker,
they're gonna get some maybe some three on two or
two on ones to where they may get the advantage.

(52:36):
So again, take care of the basketball here in the
second half. You know they're only down seven. I mean
probably that second quarter. Second quarter, Minford shot the ball
seventeen times compared to six for Zane Trace. So when
you have a quarter that you know, and I'm not

(52:59):
talking about megs, just talking about shots opportunities at the bucket,
you have to have more than six and a quarter
and you only had six in the early down seven.
That's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (53:09):
Well, no question again, with the opportunity to talk to
the Uniota kids coming up here on the second half,
let's step aside for a thirty second time out and
we'll come back with the night's third quarter action. You're

Speaker 2 (54:02):
Welcome back to the convo. Third quarter action. Shane Combs
alongside lou Postage Menford will have it to start the
second half. Kayser has it at the high post, doubled
there by mccolla and Robinson. He'll kick it back out
now Montgomery off of a reader's screen. Montgomery'll try a
mid range jumper. No good. Kaser up on the offensive glass,
put back basket, No good gets it again, but he

(54:23):
brings the ball down in a pretty good job there
by ripping the knocket loose and out come to Pioneers
with it.

Speaker 3 (54:28):
Yeah, great job. When he did put it down, they
went in there and got a hand on it.

Speaker 2 (54:32):
Transition, they pushed it ahead to Stewart. Three ball, No good.
Grady follows his shot, gets it back, lays it in.
Zane Trace strikes first here in the third quarter to
cut up the five twenty nine to twenty four.

Speaker 3 (54:42):
Yeah, really good offensive possession there.

Speaker 2 (54:45):
Deep baseline penetration from Montgomery. Probably turned down a shot
and ends up throwing it away. Pioneers forced the turnover
in just one minute in. Pioneers back in possession of
the basketball, trying to cut into this five point Menford lead.
Stewart brings it up on the right point now gives
less side over to Jerald. Jerald drives hard to the

(55:06):
right hand his little floater from twelve feet. No good.
Shoemaker of Menford with the rebound out to Montgomery he'll
look to push it in the open court. He gets
in the middle and again slapped away. Take it away.
Montgomery turns it over again, out comes Robinson, his Zame
trace with it. Robinson left side, Stewart. Stewart into the
corner of the rippe. Had McCall in the post, couldn't

(55:29):
get it to him. Now Robinson right side. He'll try three,
and he got it right in front of the Zame
Trace Finch and what a great start for the Pioneers
as they cut up to two at twenty nine to
twenty seven.

Speaker 3 (55:38):
Yeah, their very first tournament game had Zane Trace against Nelsonville,
New York. He really went off in his second half.
That'd be great if he could do that again. Shoemaker
has it up top. They try to get that high low.
Now they get at the Kser's turned around eleven foot
jump shot.

Speaker 2 (55:53):
No good. Reader up on the offensive glass, no good.
Mccaulla comes down with it. Had it for a minute lost.
I almost think he'd let go of and thinking he
was going to travel if he went to the floor
with it. And now they're gonna give it to mempher
last touch by the Pioneers. Get the young men with
the tiels there underneath the basket to come out and
clean everything up.

Speaker 3 (56:13):
Yeah, that was a good effort by both teams. Really
diving on the floor after a loose ball.

Speaker 2 (56:17):
Oh my, oh, they just lose shoemaker on the back side.
They drop it right in and lay it in thirty
one to twenty seven members.

Speaker 3 (56:25):
Yeah, that's the basically every out under. Every team runs
that same amount under and it's amazing people still get it.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
Jaral off the left side, now cross over the right hand,
drops it in the mid post to McCall of nothing there,
back out Jerrol. Jerrol drives hard to the left hand,
kicks it left side. RiPP I will try a three.
No good. McCall up on the offensive glass again, had
it and was bumped Menphord tries to throw it off
of mccaullough, but I think they stepped on the ind line.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
He threw it on the inline as he was trying
to throw it back in.

Speaker 2 (57:00):
Okay, so it's gonna be Zane trace basketball underneath its
own basket. They trail by four. Call up top at Stewart.
Stewart in the triple threat, now retreat dribbles out toward
half court to reset is it left side. Jeral. Now
we'll try a little flair screen to Stewart. Jackson closes
out hard dare the Jackson shoemaker to not allow the

(57:22):
three sane trace swings the ball. Robinson has it on
the left side, hand off Jarl. Jarl rips sue the
left hand, great bounce past. He drops it from mcaull
who lays it in thirty one to twenty nine. Wonderful
look right underneath.

Speaker 3 (57:35):
He was drawing the defense to him and McCullough always
knows what to do with the ball.

Speaker 2 (57:41):
Now flair back to Montgomery, back to Kazer. He'll try
right side three. No good, Montgomery keeps it alive, comes
out with the offensive rebound, high ball screen from shoemaker.
Montgomery now to the right hand, a little floater from
about eleven feet and he he's so crafty that what
happened as he got the defender on his back and

(58:01):
he kind of jumped back into him to create the contact.
He's going to go to the free throw line.

Speaker 3 (58:05):
Yeah, that is that's it is. You have to have
a knack to be able to do that. Not everyone
can do it, and you know the great ones can.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
Miles Montgomery at the free throw line.

Speaker 3 (58:20):
First free throw good and if you're a defender, it's frustrating.

Speaker 2 (58:25):
Curtis still In makes his first second half appearance, replacing Reader.
If you weren't worth us in the pregame again, Montgomery
a third team All the Highest selection a year ago
at twenty three points a game and certainly having a
huge senior year as well. As he makes the second
one thirty three twenty nine men for by four, four
thirty seven to go. Third quarter, Memford applying some pressure

(58:48):
with some traps in the back court, Jane Trace throws
it away, out comes Montgomery with it, crosses over the
right hand, shot up off the glass good. In the
final in Montgomery with a chance for an old fashioned three,
and again Zaane Trace just sloppy with the basketball. That
light ball turnover leads the points.

Speaker 3 (59:05):
They were trying to do too long over cross court
pass and I saw Montgomery as he's sitting there, he's
just beating him in to throw that pass. And as
soon as they let it go, eat and knew what
to do with it.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
So Montgomery right back to the line. This time he'll
just get the one because of the basket being good.
Shot up good, it's now thirty six twenty nine, then
for by seven. How was their halftime advantage. Jane Trace
breaks the pressure, this time ripetizing on the left side,
give way to Stuart. Stewart picks up the dribble and

(59:42):
that now gets rid of it to Jerald. Jerald guarded
by Glockner. Jerald dribbles to back up top the reset
the Pioneers. They call out a set to one four high.
Set goes right side, Stewart up top mccaulough. Now they'll
try to get Stuart down off a screen. They'll run
the screen to screen or action for Robinson to shoot

(01:00:03):
of three misses, everything out comes Montgomery with it. Montgomery
in the upper court just explodes by the defender gets
it all the way to the rim, can't get it
to go. Kaser shot no good, stays with it. Put
back basket, Bennet Kazer time out on the floors. Ain't
Tracey is going to take a full one Minford on
a run. They lead at thirty eight to twenty nine.

(01:00:24):
We'll step aside with them. You're listening SBC coverage walked
to you by Hernstein Hundai on ninety four country Wkkjoe.

Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
Welcome back to the convo. Shane holmslu postage, Zane Trace
look all the way within two and then Minford starts
to take off again. Now they lead at thirty eight
to twenty nine. Again, good time out. It seems like
Zane Trace works out hard to get back in it
and then Menford just boom boom right back out of them.

Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
Yeah, they got it to two there, and then Memphord
scores five points without Zane Tracy even getting the ball
back in their offensive end. And then they get a
quick uh miss and Montgomery gets the rebound, goes to
coast right now. It seems like Montgomery and Kazer are
everywhere on the floor. Uh. Somehow Zane Tracey has got

(01:01:48):
a limited touches.

Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Back to action with three p thirty seven to go
third quarter, Minford, as they have all night, going to
pick it up in the full court. They get it
into mccaulough. Kaula turns, he gives it to Jerald. Now
jarro across the timeline, goes behind the back, tries to
give away to Steward. I'll throws it away. Robinson runs
it down back up top just in front of the
half court line as Jerald. Jerald drops it to mccaulla.

(01:02:17):
Mccaulla tries to get it to Stewart. Well denied there Montgomery.
Stewart will come into the handoff. Now poked away by
Montgomery out in the open court. Montgomery left hand dribbled,
switch it over the right hand. This is the layout
opportunity here for z Ain't trace to take advantage heres
they're back in transition. Jeral up to the point, kicks
it for Rippa. Grippa drops it short corner to mccaulla

(01:02:40):
out to the wing. Jarrold will try a three short
no good and that ball is gonna go out of bound.
So you know, Montgomery finally misses one and transitions, ain't
trace comes back and an unable to convert.

Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
Yeah, that was like breaking news right there that he
missed that one. Uh but uh again is ain't trace
came out? This quarter played so well early on. Now
you got under three minutes to go in the third quarter.
You gotta finish this quarter. You're on a high note.

Speaker 2 (01:03:06):
Two forty five in counting. And if Aane Tracey had
come out of the locker room and did a nice job,
you get right back in a Minford is answering. We'll
see if any Trace can get a stop here into
the corner at Montgomery kays A into the middle post,
shot up and no good. But they're gonna say, did
they get Jarl underneath getting him on the arm? Yes,

(01:03:28):
the second thirteen. Then at cast six sixteen, you're gonna
go to the free throw line, tries to push it.
Minford's been in control most of the second and third quarter,
but that free throw pushes the lead. That's ten. That's
the biggest of the evening so far.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
Here's here's the thing about their You know, Minford Kayser
has twenty shots at the bucket. Wow, and Montgomery has eleven.
I mean, that's a lot of shots from two individuals.
Second free throw good forty twenty nine. Two thirty to
go third quarter, Jerald gives way to Robinson. Robinson back

(01:04:14):
to Jerl now now membered back into the normal man.
A man's continuing the switch, making it very difficult on
some of the quick kiters, where Zain and Trace got
to look at some of their second and third options.

Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
On some of the sealbacks. Stewart has it on the
left point, comes off a high ball stream from mccaullam,
gives way to Robinson. Now Jerald uptop, Jerald rips hard
to the right hand, plays downhill and I think they're
going to get Kazer on the common fil.

Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
Yeah, this is a possession. Ain't trace these points from
this possession right here.

Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
Two oh four to go third quarter, ob under opportunity
for the Pioneers as Houston and Judah Hanks will sprint
to the scorer's table to check in, replacing Rip and
Robinson Lass and landon Robinson. Now they'll hand the ball
to Jarrol there on the baseline and we'll screen the

(01:05:08):
screen or action for Zane Trace nothing. They're gonna throw
it all the way out top. Stewart Stewart gives way
to Hanks. Hanks goes left side. Houston wanted to drop
it into the post there and McCall of nothing there
now back out Jarl jarro off a ball screen for mcaulla,
tries to drop the bounce past it and quite create
the angle and ends up throwing it out of bounce.

Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
Turnover number eleven on the night for zan Trace.

Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
So forty twenty nine mean forered by eleven with the ball.
Kind of a danger time here for Zane Trace, really
in need of a stop. Montgomery brings it up, guarded
by Hanks. Little scissors action there off the high catch
from Jackson Shoemaker. Now they're gonna try to throw a
little lob play. Caser goes way up in the air.
Nothing comes of it, just an incredible attempt just to

(01:05:55):
catch it and keep it alive. Timing just a little
bit off. Dane Trace comes out with it. McCall up
the trade kick to Jarl jerrel off. A ball screen
from mccaulla, gets in the middle, draws the contact shot
up on the rim and it falls. We speak of
crafty guards. There is a little bit of a creation
of contact. Got the shot up with a good Shooter's
touch and a chance for an old fashioned three.

Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
Yeah, that was much needed right there. Get these point
in there, cut it down to eat.

Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
Glenn returns for Jackson, Shoemaker, and Robinson's gonna return for
Zane Trace, Lynn and Jerrold with the free throw line
to try to make good on the three. Jarrol himself
was an honorable mention All Ohio guard a year ago,
obviously fought through injury, came back about halfway through this

(01:06:44):
year and again averaging up around nine or ten points.
He had fifteen points in that big comeback win against
Ironton earlier in the week.

Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Cohen Larsen checks in for Zane Trace.

Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
Free throw no good, so the leg will stay at
nine one fifteen in counting. As Montgomery brings it up,
still guarded by Hanks, goes right side Reader up top.
Now they're gonna go high low game. Kazer in the
middle draws two Pioneers, tries to dump it underneath, good
reaction from Stuart as he pokes out of bounds. Robinson

(01:07:20):
will give Jarrold a quick break here. Over the last
minute of the third quarter, mccaulla will return for Hanks.
So in this line up, here Houston Robertson mccaullaugh shot
from the opposite quarter no good. Along with the Larson

(01:07:43):
and Stewart. Houston in the open court drives hard to
the rims shot up and they're gonna start of traveling.
I think that the official was caught in between travel
and foul, decided to go travel and it's gonna turn
it back over to Memphord.

Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
Yeah, I think that would have been the guy on
the bottom's call. He should have been able to see
the foul part of that and over rules that travel.

Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
Rythator returned for Stuart this final fifty three seconds, so
forty thirty one membered by nine. With the ball fifty
three point two left on the third quarter clock, Montgomery
brings it up, now guarded by Rippeth, who just returned
to action up top. It's Glenn gives it the Kazer

(01:08:32):
on a curl cut off there by Rippeth. Now Montgomery
has it, he'll retreat back and as the clock goes
down to thirty four, let's see if member is going
to hold for the final shot of the third quarter.
It will be Zane Tracey's possession to start the fourth quarter.
So if the Pioneers can get a stop, they can
at least survive this quarter at just minus two, as

(01:08:53):
they were down seven at halftime clock at sixteen in county.
Montgomery's still breaking the count. Now dribbles it up justy
of half court. Ten nine. Now he starts downhill behind
the back, and they're going to call a foul on Rippith,
and again that tough call. I mean again, I think

(01:09:14):
he was trying to give some fowls earlier in the night,
so he very well might have been trying to give
one there.

Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
Again with seven seconds. That's not a bad foul. They're
not in the uh bonus yet. Now you foul again
there are going to go to the line, So.

Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
Do the Hans back in hanks for returning defensively here
for the final seven seconds and ain't tracing desperate need
of a stop, they'll be glocking or inbounding on the side.
Out throws it out top here to Montgomery. Montgomery shoots
it from way out by the owen Ohio. No good mccaullough.
At the rebound, they throw it out half court. He
who catches a little bit of iron from Rippeth, but

(01:09:52):
doesn't go We've arrived at the end of the third quarter.
Then for forty zin't trace thirty one. We're eight minutes
from a district titles say with us fourth quarter action

Speaker 2 (01:11:14):
Welcome back to the Convo D five District Championship. Thank
you aDNA Hell for all the sport during the postseason.
Trell Memford leads at forty thirty one. Lou take us
through the numbers there in the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
Well yeah, zame trees only getting nine shots at in
the third quarter there there four nine one of five
from beyond the arc, and Minford was only three or twelve,
only twenty five percent, but they were perfect from the
free throw line five for five.

Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
Mccaulough the kind of daring He's gonna step back into
the top of the key three, No good block him
at the rebound out comes Montgomery, zigs and zags up
the middle of the court and now brings it back
out only to stop and go back to the right hand,
gets it all the way to the rims shot up.
No good, but the file the young man does such
a good job as staying low and just keeping the drill.
And it's a stop go action, Lou, and it just

(01:12:02):
kind of it keeps you on your toes really not
only on ball, but away from the ball. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
And right there when he goes up, he turns his
body to where the ball. The defender can't get to
the ball. So if you're trying to you can't get
to it because you have to go through his whole body.
And that's where the fouls come in to play.

Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
Montgomery going to go back to the free throw line
here to try to push the lead back to double digits.
First shot is good, Let's see. According to mind notes, Lou,
forty twenty nine was the biggest Memphord lead. So Montgomery'd
have a chance to match that one here with the
second free throw.

Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
Yeah, and he is uh perfect from the line six
for six Tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
That one falls there. Forty two to thirty one by
comes Zane Trace. It's Robinson one on one against Kazer.
Spends cross timeline, now gives away Tomcaller. I call the
left side, Jerald. Jerald goes hard to the right hand,
shot up off the glass. No good. Kaser with the
rebound and immediately turns and pushes into the up in court,
drops the pounce past the reader and lays it in

(01:13:03):
and again it's the versatility of Bennett Kayser rebound, push
and assists, and just like that they push it to
forty four to thirty one.

Speaker 3 (01:13:11):
Yeah, I would say you look at possessions. I'd say
eighty five to ninety percent of the time the ball
is in Kaser or Montgomery's hands.

Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
Ball inbounded to Rippeth Menfhord continues to pick up in
the full court. They just keep coming at and try
to speed you up. Ripe drives hard to the left hand,
back out Stuart. Now Jerald has it, Jeral back up top.
Six point fifty five remaining in the game, Zane Trace
down thirteen. Stuart from the left side try to get

(01:13:45):
the three off, unable to get a good look at it.
Al Stewart has it back up top, gives way to
Jerrol Menphord continues to switch. Mccaulla has it at the elbow,
drops the bounce past to cutting Robinson, cut off there
by Kazer. They try to throw go back out Stuart
to Saint Trace Somos lost it.

Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
Stewart gets it back touched by two different Minford players
and got all the way to Stuart.

Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Menford's crowd starting to really appreciate the defensive effort here
at six twenty down thirteens ain't Tracey's got to go
a little bit. Robinson down low. Mccallough on a inside
basket much needed, cuts the lead to eleven. At forty
four thirty three.

Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Yeah, I would have liked to maybe get an offense
or foul call there too. For the end one.

Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
By comes Montgomery. There's left side glockner. Montgomeryl sprint and
get it back, rips through the left hand dribble now
comes off a high ball string from Jackson. Shoemaker gives
away to Kaser, Kay's er left hand dribble. I think
he got away a step. We know he didn't. They
got him. I was gonna say I thought, event originally
he got away with the step, but the sideline official

(01:14:54):
was on it called the travel.

Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
Yeah, NBA, you get that one.

Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
Four to thirty three, Zane Trace, chance to get this
thing back into single digits. It's Robinson bringing it up
against Kazer, gives way to Rippeth right hand ribble, pushes
it all the way over right side Stewart back out
Jerrol Jerl high ballstream McCallan, Jerald how to look at three,

(01:15:21):
didn't kind of look the basket. Now they get a
high low into mccaullough shot up, no good. It's going
to have a membered foul and it should be in
the act of shooting. Let's see if they get Gunner
to the free throw line here that one.

Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
I couldn't believe that pass got through there, and it's
a nice catch by Gunner. Mccalluugh, and at least get
a shot off there.

Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
Yeah, a good low position on on the little skip
bounce pass on most he will McCall's first free throw
no good. So Gunner will get a second one if
he tries to trim this lead back to ten. As
they currently trail forty four to thirty three free throw up,

(01:16:01):
that's too strong. Fight for the loose. Paul McCall is
the one that gets it back out to Jarl Jarld
drives hard to the rim, draws the contact of Kaser,
switches it over kind of the right hand. Can't get
the shot to go, but now he's going to go
to the free throw lines.

Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
Well, you need opportunities, and right now Zamee Trace is
getting those, but they're not making any buckets out.

Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
Of playing in. Jerald's a eighty four percent free throw
shooter on the year. First free throw, That one's no good,
so Zane Trace all of a sudden, giving away three
opportunities here at the free throw line. Jerald will get another.

Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
They're zero for four in the second half at the
free throw line. They miss their only one in the
third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:16:49):
Glenn returns to the mempher of replaces the sophomore guard
Ashton Reader. Jerald tries to get this lid off the
basket from the free throw line. He does so, he
knocks out one in forty four to thirty four. Montgomery
trapped there on the inbound by Zain Trace. He dribbles
through three defenders by a fourth one tries to give

(01:17:12):
way to Glenn, who by lost it. He turns and
fires it all the way back out Montgomery from three
to no good rebound. Mcaullus, whose ain't trace a last
got what they wanted, which was a quick possession from Minford,
and they get possession back.

Speaker 3 (01:17:25):
Yeah, a getting down ten cut away at this ten
point lead here, you got five minutes to do it.

Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
Stuart penetrates White corner Robbitson in and out rebound, Kaser
casing the other court taken away by Stuart Stewart on
the drive, and we're gonna have a blocking foul from Glenn.
I don't know if they're gonna let Stuart get up
in the actor shooting or if they're gonna call that
on the floor. I think he pointed to the floor.

Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
He sure did. It's gonna be out under. Got to
be three fouls now on Minford here in a quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
Yeah, all ten players lined up for a free throw.
But lou A spot on there. He had pointed to
the floor right away, So now they're getting some area
wiped up there. Zain Trace changes their mind on their play.

(01:18:18):
It was going to be Robinson inboundy now Jerrel will
take it out, saying tracing a box set. They run
Stuart ball side corner. They unbound it to him, drop
it in the middle post to mcaullar back side. Jerrel
drops it in the high post. Robinson inside out three
now from the right side. No good, that was Rippeth.

(01:18:40):
Fight for the loose bought ic. We've got a Memford
file in the rebound.

Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
They're continuing the battle.

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
So McCall on a put back, opportunity gets fouled, he'll
go to the free throw line.

Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
See if you can't get two here.

Speaker 2 (01:19:01):
First shot good because I said Gunna McCall of fourteen
points eight rebounds of night. It's first team All SVC selection. Obviously, big,
big part of this twenty and four is Aane Trace squad,
just a junior, so coach Cassidy will welcome him back
for another year.

Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
Yeah, mccalling, Gritty Steward, both yours here in the starting nine.

Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
Second free throw too strong, Robinson pop fork saved by
Mimbord and bounds of Montgomery. Montgomery gives way to Kaser
and they're gonna call a five court foul. I don't
know that Zamee Trace loved that call, but nonetheless common foul.
So Memphil Membhord will have it in the full court
on the spot. I think we're gonna have a time

(01:19:45):
out on the floor. It's gonna be a fool. We'll
step away with a Memford forty four is Aye Trace?

ninety four Country WKKJ. Thank you Adena Health for all
the support during the tournament trail, making it possible for
us to support our local teams and athletes. Forty four
to thirty five Minford in Front four twenty six remaining
in the ballgame. Minford will have it on the spot

(01:21:15):
in the full court. Zane Trace will pick up with
some pressure in Belle Montgomery. Zane Trace tries to get
him on the side. He splits the trap into the
middle of the court. Three on one, No look past
the shoemaker shot up block from behind. It can't tell
McCall or Steward got it. Nonetheless, last touch by Minford
and Zane Trace is gonna go to turno.

Speaker 3 (01:21:34):
Yeah, it was touched by a shoemaker as he was
trying to get the rebound there a coach from Minford.
They're trying to get a foul call. Now they'll go
through the home run ball. Mccaulisle right and strike. He's
gonna lay it in nice throw landon Robinson. The touchdown
on the other end forty four to thirty seven. Got

(01:21:54):
a backcourt foul here. That's going to be Zane TRACE's
third team foul. Tell you what Minford seems out of
sorts right now. Zaint Trace can continue to have some
pressure here. Now that's three fouls on Zane Trace here
in this quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:22:12):
Now you mentioned Zane Trace. Defensively, Mempher comes an averaging
seventy one. Four minutes ago, you got Memford at forty four,
just having trouble score in the ball throughout. Even now
they got another foul. Montgomery kind of creates a little
contact and kind of throws the shoulders and head a
little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:22:30):
Yeah, it's one of those where I think in the
normal game, you don't make that call, but because he
throws his shoulders and heads back, makes it look more
like a foul.

Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
Kay Glockner will inbound on the side, throws it all
the way in the back court to Montgomery. Four minutes
to play, Montgomery gives left side, it's Glenn Glynn, all
the way across court Glockner. Now underneath it's Shoemaker. Shoemaker
draws the double team back out Glockner and Memphord kind
of going in the spread, going to kind of take

(01:23:05):
take some air out of the ball here. So forty
four to thirty seven, with three forty to go. Now
Montgomery just dribbling around Stuart there, Gerald there. They're trying
to get him croud a little bit. It's got to
be close to a five count, and there's never been
a stop of the five count. So they throw it
over in the opposite quarter, Shoemaker going to try at
three and he got it. Wow, So Jackson Shoemaker pushes

(01:23:29):
the lead back to ten at forty seven thirty seven.
Saint Trace frustrated there on the other end, they felt
like they had Montgomery up against the count the whole time.
Stewart off the ball stream, going to have a hold
here on Memphord.

Speaker 3 (01:23:46):
He's going to be shooting foul shots here.

Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
That's a fifth foul for Mimphord, Montgomery's third foul, as
Lou said, that's their fifth two. So Stewart will go.
But unfortunately you're you're giving me the numbers there. Unable
to convert very well here in the second half.

Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
Yeah, so far in the second half they are two
of seven.

Speaker 2 (01:24:11):
First free throw. That one's good, agin. As I mentioned earlier,
Grady Stewart thirteen points in ninety's a second team All SVC.

Speaker 3 (01:24:22):
Player.

Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
Gonna get a second free throw here as they get
that back to single digits here. If you can make
this one, they can get within eight still time with
three minutes ago, but they got to go now. Free
throw good forty seven thirty eight Pioneers, So within eight
Hanks is going to replace Stuart offensively. Here is zaining
trace going to pick up in the full court, get

(01:24:44):
it into Montgomery. Robinson and Rippas try to get him
in a trap. They throw it in the middle to
Glenn Lynn breaks the ten count, gives the kaser, who
hands it to Montgomery. It's where Montgomery can be so
good in terms of just breaking the five count, gives
it up the kaser. Now back to Montgomerys. They play
a little back and forth. Those ain't trace chases in
the trap a little bit too forty two in counting.

(01:25:09):
Now Montgomery around Robinson. They're going to call the bump there,
So that's gonna put him on the free throw line.
Stuart's going to return to the to the game on
a probably an offensive defensive substitution patterns probably what we'll
start to see more and more here in the final
two thirty nine.

Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
Yeah, this last two and a half minutes may see
a lot of free throws.

Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
Montgomery's first free throw is good. Mile Stewart replaces.

Speaker 3 (01:25:47):
Hanks and he is seven of seven on the ninth.

Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
You'd like to get him off the free throw line.
The hardest thing of who's going to be getting the
ball out of his hands second free throw good forty
nine thirty nine.

Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
Gives him eighteen on the night. He and Kayser both
have eighteen for Minford.

Speaker 2 (01:26:08):
Up top, Robinson good way to Jeral Jerald penetrates drops
the bounce past the mccaullough picked off by Montgomery out
in the open court. Montgomery will stop and go move
into the middle again, just dribbling around, eating the clock
Menford spreads the court and they share it in and

(01:26:30):
out of some Dame Trace traps Montgomery into the middle
and he's gonna get the bump call, and he's gonna
go back to the free throw line.

Speaker 18 (01:26:39):
And Gerald.

Speaker 2 (01:26:43):
Jerald's third team's already in the bonus.

Speaker 3 (01:26:48):
Yeah, he has ten points from the field and eight
points from the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
Yeah, you get those great scores. And we talk about
what separates the good for great scores of Montgomery hits
the first lou I always felt like it's the guys
that can sworn multiple ways. You know, some guys are
just great shooters, some guys are great scores. Though, this
kid can shoot it. He'd get to the free throw line.
He's good in transition.

Speaker 3 (01:27:10):
He makes things happen with the ball, and he has
the ball in his hands the majority of the time.

Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
Second free throw is good and bound to jail. Pioneers
trailed by twelve two minutes, you always get the popular
two minute call. Here at the combo Robinson a walk
into three, no good, a hie for the rebound. Is

(01:27:36):
Montgomery tries to dribble out, he loses it and they're
going to turn it back over to Zane Trace. Menford
felt like they had called time out before that official
didn't agree.

Speaker 3 (01:27:51):
So I think the coach was trying to call it,
the player was trying to call it.

Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
And Belle McCall, he'll try a three, and he got it.
Mccaulus shows off a little range fifty one forty two,
saying Trace not done yet, coach cast will take quick
time out and we'll stay here with it. And you know, Louis,
we've caught a lot of basketball throughout the year, seeing
a lot of different leagues, you know, from the SVC
to the FAC, the Mid State, the Shock and so forth.

(01:28:20):
This Montgomery, this young man's one of the more talented guards.

Speaker 3 (01:28:23):
They're saying, I mean he the accommodation of he and
Kaser is probably the best two I've seen all year long. Uh,
just the fact that they can control the game so
much because of how much time they have the ball
in their hands and things that they do, and what
they do is make players that are around them better
because you know, they make the things happen and then

(01:28:45):
all they have to is pros to one player or another,
find a wide open guy. That guy makes a shot.
So they have great role players around him. But as
far as the one two combination and the best I
seen around him, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
Yeah, to your point, Glockner, reed Er, Shoemaker, Gwynn, those
guys understand that, hey, if I play off of these guys,
they're gonna make life easier on me. Real nice chemistry
they have, even though two guys kind of dominate the
ball exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:29:10):
And again, you know, you see this stuff on tape,
but until you see it in person, you really can't
appreciate how well this team uh and what they can
do offensively.

Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
Remembered out of the time out gets it in bounds,
He's trapped there in the back court. Ball comes up,
mccaulla steps in and picks it off. Mccaulough his way
to Robinson, over to ripeth Al Stewart has it up top.
He'll try a three that's one of his cleanest looks
in the wilde and knocks it down and the Pioneers
are within six when twenty five to go out comes

(01:29:42):
want Gunman. He dribbles all the way through and lays
it in, literally dribbled through three or four Zan't Trace
players and laid it in. So fifty three forty five he.

Speaker 3 (01:29:54):
Just he gots the ball and he's like, I'm not stopping.
Somebody's got to stop me, and no one could.

Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
So now Jared will push it up to try to
run Steward off the double screen. Now back off a
flare screen. Memphord's got it all covered. Now download a mccaullaugh,
and he's show, well, they're gonna they're gonna say turned
it over. I thought he got shoved right in the
back on the catch. But it's gonna be a mem
for thirty second time out, so we might as well

(01:30:22):
stay here again, Zane Trace off the Stewart three fifty
one forty five. You got a great opportunity, and just
like that, Montgomery flips the game.

Speaker 3 (01:30:30):
Yeah, he's like, I'll take this, I've got it. But again,
Zane Trace had opportunities right there. I thought for sure
that was a foul inside on McCullough. Uh, but uh,
you know, an opportunity. And again, when you put all
these things together, you had a lot of missed opportunities
for Zane Trace here tonight. They've done a great job.

(01:30:51):
This is only an eight point game.

Speaker 19 (01:30:53):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:30:53):
And again you're holding a team that averages over seventy
points a game right now to fifty three.

Speaker 10 (01:30:58):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:30:59):
So you know, get hats off to his Zame Trace.
They they've battled through it. They haven't played their best game,
don't get me wrong, but they've battled through it.

Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
You know, obviously membered on the knocking on the door
of improving to twenty three and one. You don't do
that without being able to win different types of games.
And to the memberd's credit, they've kind of adjusted here
in the second half to an uglier half court type
of game. So remembered out of the time out, it's
going to have it in the full court. They lead
by eight one to six. His ain Trace and desperate

(01:31:29):
need of a turnover the glockner to inbound the basketball
getting in the kaser, Zame Trace will immediately give the
foul so it's everyone to walk to the other end.

Speaker 3 (01:31:44):
Interesting, now that time out, they just had Montgomery take off.
See somebody else go to the free throw line. This
one's going to be Kaser and he's two for two
on the night.

Speaker 2 (01:31:56):
How many do you say he had?

Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
He has eighteen?

Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Oh I see that there? Yeah, yeah, so yeah, those
two guys. What the forty there of the fifty three?

Speaker 3 (01:32:04):
Yep?

Speaker 2 (01:32:08):
Free throw? Good again, a six to sixth senior, kind
of a do it all, versatile type of young man.
We've seen off the dribble, we've seen guarding the ball,
we've seen in the post. Been a big factor here
on the offensive glass. In the second half, free throw strong,
he gets his own rebound. He was the only falcon
up on the free throw line, and I'll be if

(01:32:29):
he didn't step in and go get his own rebound.
He lays it in and gets fout. And now that
might be the final dagger here is fifty six, forty five.
Caser is going to go back to the line for
the old fashioned three.

Speaker 3 (01:32:41):
Well, they were thirteen and thirteen for the free throw
line up to that point, and I was just getting
ready to say they finally missed one. And then he
got the rebound. I'm not sure we got five fouls
here on somebody yep on Landon Robinson, Yeah, the cord
by knowing.

Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
So the outstanding career of Lynn and Robinson most likely
going to come to an end here this evening. As
a district runner up, Lynn and one of the great
all round players averages and close to ten points, five rebounds,
five assists, two steals as the free throws up and good.
We mentioned the other night didn't score a point and
we felt like he was as valuable as anybody in
that Ironton win fifty seven to forty five Menford Stewart

(01:33:26):
for Zane Trace, springs it up his way to rip
a RiPP a left side Houston. Houston drops it to mccaulla.
Mccaulla steps back to the three point line shot Fate
gets in the middle, now kicks it back out Jara.
We'll try three and he got it. So fifty seven
forty eight A quick time out there for Zane Trace.

(01:33:48):
It's a full time out. We'll step aside for a
thirty second time out. You're listening to Hernstein Houndai sec

Speaker 2 (01:34:33):
Welcome back to the convos. Shang Colm's Lou postage thirty
eight point nine seconds remaining member to leave Zane Trace
fifty seven forty eight. And you know, Lou, we look
here at the seniors on the Zane Trace roster, Jerrel
and Houston, Rippeth, Hanks, Robertson, obviously Larson fighting all the
way back from injury. Certainly been a group that's uh yeah,

(01:34:54):
gonna leave Zane Trace program in a really really good
place here unless something crazy happens here. Probably twenty and five.
What an outstanding season for the seniors.

Speaker 3 (01:35:02):
Yeah, I mean, uh, they they've been fun to watch.
They've done a good job of representing their school well
and uh, you know they're just gonna fall to a
team tonight that's really good and has two exceptional players.

Speaker 2 (01:35:16):
They get it and bounce Jackson's Shoemaker in the middle
of the court, catches and gets filed. So Shoemaker, the
sixth four senior, his.

Speaker 9 (01:35:27):
Fort and fell.

Speaker 3 (01:35:28):
We're gonna have somebody else other than Kazer and Montgomery
shoot a free throw.

Speaker 2 (01:35:33):
Here the double bonus. Shoemaker's first free throw in and out.
No good, So fifty seven forty eight. That will remain
the score. As the Shoemaker tries to push it back
to ten, and he does. Fifty eight forty eight, thirty
four point eight left in the game. Back comes Jerrold,

(01:35:57):
Jerrold to the right hand, ribble between the legs and
go now crosses over, shot up off the glass. No good.
Mccaulla fights for a rebound, gets it back. Jared will
try three. I think I was partially blocked by Montgomery
and outcome the Falcons with it. Kayser hasn't. He's filed
by mccaullaugh and it with sixteen seconds to go, the
Memford crowd is going to come to their feet as

(01:36:18):
they start to anticipate a district title and a trip
to the sweet sixteen sixteen point four on the clock.
Then at Kayser will go to the line and try
to cap off his outstanding evening. Looks like those coaches

(01:36:42):
may try to get some people onto the convo floor here.
Looks like Ethan Cordle, a senior Rumbenberry into the game
for Zane Trace. Remember Roman played outstanding for Zane Trace
early in the year when Jared was heard did a
nice job running the point until Jerald returned. Hanks returns,

(01:37:04):
also returns. Houston returns. Larson returns the game at fourteen
lead Stevens Zane Trace. Crowd shows some appreciation for the
seniors coming off for the final time, and now Stewart
will leave as Sebastian Lewis or excuse me, Sebastian Wreck

(01:37:29):
comes into the game. Six two junior center Kaser at
the free throw line. There second shot good sixty forty eight,
fifteen seconds to go, pushed up the four Stevens into
the game as well for Zaye Trace. Now Ray has

(01:37:50):
it back to Barry, he'll try a right side three
to gout it sophomore point guard into the scoring tolls
Lmmen Barry knocks it down and at your ball game
finalso we or Memford sixty zam Trace fifty one. Menford
will be moving on as they improved the twenty three
and one overall and they're your district champions moving on
to the Sweet sixteen. Zam Trace outstanding season will come

(01:38:12):
to an end at twenty and five and they'll finish
as district runner up again. The PA announcer here gives
a shout out to Land and Gerald Noah Houston as
a ripper for Judah Hanks, Land and Robinson and Cohen
Larson the senior class in the Zame Trace as a
cap off and outstanding career. Shane Colmes Lou posts and

Presenting a gain Flings love story. Dear love of my life,
we were on the twelve B bus this morning when
I caught a whiff a scent so fresh, so life changing.
I had to find its source, Alas, I didn't know
if you were the woman in the pink freshley washed
cart again or the retired mailman next to me, but

(01:41:29):
I knew one of you was my soulmate. Ah a
scent of gain Flings Try game Flames with oxy Boost
and Fabrize.

Speaker 2 (01:41:44):
Welcome back to the Combo. It's the Division five District
Championship postgame coverage as the memph Falcons defeat of Zain
Trace Pioneers sixty to fifty one and Yeah, Louise, we
take a closer look at the numbers. I know Kaser
and Maga forty six of the sixty total. Those two
were terrific. There. As you take us through the team totals,

(01:42:06):
what else jumps out at you?

Speaker 3 (01:42:07):
Well, Zan tray shot seventeen of thirty eight, forty four percent,
eight of twenty one from the three point line, thirty
eight percent, six of eleven from thee or from the
free throw line. They had eight or fourteen turnovers on
the night. Did much better job in the second half
taking care of the basketball, I think. But when you

(01:42:29):
look at Minford, the thing that really stands out to me,
they were only one of eight from the free throw
line or one of eight from the three point line.
Where they really took over was the free throw line,
seventeen of nineteen from the free throw line. So you
look at a nine point deficit, Uh, the opportunity is
that Zane Trace had when they cut it down to
maybe a four or six points. It just seemed like

(01:42:51):
Minford took an opportunity, got it down, got a foul,
got a misshot, put it back, got a foul, and
they made the most of those shots. And you know,
when you basically outscore your opponent by eleven from the
free throw line and you win by nine, there's your
difference right there.

Speaker 2 (01:43:09):
When I heard you mentioned must quarter by quarter, and
you talked about it several times throughout the game to
use a soccer term, I guess shots on goal, right,
you know, the turnover and the rebounding stat will usually
lead to one team getting a lot more shots at
the basket, and that certainly happened the night with Minford
as well.

Speaker 3 (01:43:26):
Yeah, and again it was forty six shots they got
at the bucket compared to thirty eight for Zane Trace. Now,
as I said, Zaint Trace did a much better job
at the second half of defending Minford. And again, yeah,
they get sixty points on the night, they were about
eleven under their average. But you know, again some late
free throws there you add to that score. But overall,
I thought Zaint Trace did what they needed to defensively.

(01:43:48):
It was on the offensive end that they just didn't
make the most of the opportunities that they had.

Speaker 2 (01:43:54):
Zane TRACE's individuals and then their team just had the
opportunity to get their runner up medal and then their
runner up team award as well. Congratulations the Memford as
they will advance on to the Sweet sixteen. According to
my notes here, they will wait the winner of Kashockton
and Sugar Creek Gairway. They actually played tomorrow night at
West Holmes High School. Now, after Memford cuts the nets

(01:44:17):
down here and they put a new net up. Wheelersburg
and Chesapeake will have the nightcap here and then the
winner of that game they will wait Saint Clairsville Martin's Ferry.
They also play tomorrow night over at Harrison Central High School,
so we'll still have some Southeast district representation. Speaking of
our local representation, I know you and Jacob will be
back down here next Thursday night uniodor they're still waiting

(01:44:39):
their opponent as well, as they'll be up at Auderbine
scouting this weekend and we'll see remember new Lex who
defeated Meg last night Uni Oda New Lets actually go
opposite of each other in that regional semifinal, so again
bes the luck to them. As I look throughout the
South East district, tomorrow kind of is the Big Girls

(01:45:03):
Regional Championship day. Looking through our Southeast district. There Fairfield
Union still alive playing for a shot at the final
four in Division three fairly and actually came out of
the district and went to the Southeast issues in Southwest
representation there in the regional championship, Portsmouth in this Memphord
team will play, and then in the Division seven Waterford

(01:45:26):
seems like that's just an annual trip right to the
regional championship. They'll have a chance at the final four
as well. Well, the way these things work up here,
we don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:45:35):
We will.

Speaker 2 (01:45:35):

Welcome back to the combo. Postgame Action D five District Championship.
Winford has defeated Jane Trace sixty to fifty one, and
you know a lot of times with where we're located
up here and coaches taking the time. You know, that's
certainly understandable. I don't know if we'll get a chance
to talk to coach Cassidy, but before we get out
of here, Lou, I'll say I've really enjoyed the year
with you. I know you and Jacob be back down

(01:48:42):
here next week. If I don't get an opportunity to
work with you again, look forward to next year. Really
really enjoyed it. I'll give you the final word here
talk to me. Tournament basketball, Uniota is still ahead and
maybe the overall year and you're filling for the SBC.

Speaker 3 (01:48:54):
Well, it's always great just talking to you. It's great,
you know, hopefully the fans understand Shandon are just conversing
about basketball. Hopefully we bring something to you guys through
that conversation, and that's always fun. But yeah, you look
forward here, Unioda coming back here. I really think Uniodo
has a really good chance. The way they're playing in

(01:49:14):
the tournament. The three games they played this year so
far in this tournament they played really well, and they
continue to get better and some of their players are
stepping up into different roles and doing a really good job.
So I'm really interested to see who they're going to play,
and they're going to find out on Sunday and then
find out exactly what you know come next Thursday how

(01:49:36):
things shake out. But it'll be fun this time of
the year. You get into March, and if you're still
playing in March and the sun comes out, it's a
little warmer walking into gyms. That is a wonderful time
of the year.

Speaker 2 (01:49:48):
Well, tomorrow is March and obviously if you're a basketball faye,
that's the greatest month on the calender track exactly. So again,
I appreciate everybody being with us tonight. Best of luck
to Unioda on the trail. I want to invest leuct
all those Southeast District teams on the girlf side as
they play for a special trip to the Pintal four tomorrow.
So well, on that note, we'll get on out of
here and wrap it up. Sidney, thank you so much

(01:50:10):
for your effort back in station tonight and all year
for Loop posted. This is Shane Combs final score for
the final time Memford wins a district title over zein
Trace sixty to fifty one.
