Ex President of the Sons of Ben, Matt Gantastic, ax
had Capo, Adam Booth, ex player and forever a Union
legend Sebastian Latoo. These may be exes, but they're the
experts when it comes to the Philadelphia Union. This is
exes in the U.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Welcome back everybody exes and the U. I'm Mcandazak, the
former president of the Sons of Ben. I'm joined by
X Head, Kapo, Adam Booth and of course for every
Union legend Sebastian la Two guys, episode number forty five,
We've got a lot to talk about. How's everybody's a week,
week and a half?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Been been great, been great, loving it, loving life right now?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yeah, somebo how was your week? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Be good too.
Speaker 5 (00:48):
You know, I'm getting ready for the Academy to get
back into the new building in uh, you know Chet
And I'll tell you, guys, it's pretty amazing what the
what they did.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, we'll definitely have to talk about that. So let's
just get into the match reviews. Since we skip the week,
we've got to talk about Houston and Colorado. So, speaking
of I am in Houston right now in the bowels
of the n R a NRG Energy Arena Stadium, So yes,
(01:19):
an R. Yeah, that would be great. That would be
more apropos for Houston, Texas as the NRA stadium. But yeah,
I'm in the stadium now doing a job for my
nine to five work and we get to talk about
the one one draw Houston game, and Sebah, you were there,
and now that I'm here, I can really understand why
that looks so sloppy because it is hot. It is
(01:42):
eighty six percent humidity right here, and that's not even
the worse of it. The guys told me, so, Seba,
what did you think about that one one?
Speaker 4 (01:53):
I mean it was a.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Quick point.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
I think on the road, I think, you know, a game,
and they had kind of worked a little bit, especially
in first half. You know they were able to be
up one zero, but again I think not you know,
the last minute of extra time every time kind of
blow us up.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
We cannot feel like Houston coming back.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
But I think one one, it's a good result, even
if at the end Andrew Rick got to say, like
say by its post twice, but we always say, you know,
good goalkeeper or has got some luck. So it was
kind of nice to see the the luck is still
you know, in a favor of the Union, and I
think it was a good point. But like you said,
it was so hot, so it was a lot of turnaround,
(02:36):
you know, in a in a lineup, a lot of
gap kind of like playing a lot of minutes.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
We didn't play a lot.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
And I think they did well, you know, they were compacts,
the players the block.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
And uh and they get a point out of it.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
But yeah, those games are so tough, you know, because
even if you play with your best seat advent the
humidity and everything, it's it's so difficult to be you know,
on point every time and you cannot fall asleep.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
And when you are in Houston, you ever huge advantage
to playing this.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Type of of of atmosphere.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, it's and we'll talk about this later on, you know,
with people's talking about the schedule change the MLS wanting
to flip the calendar. After seeing that game and then
being down here, I'm starting to change my mind towards that. Adam,
your thoughts on the one to one draw with Houston
in Houston.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
You know, I think a lot of times when you
look at a squad rotation like that, you're just assuming
either it's gonna be a tough sledding or you're just
gonna you think that confidently in yourself that you're just
gonna mop them.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
And I don't know, it just seemed like it seems
it seemed like a game that the Union definitely had
the opportunities to win, and then it's kind of didn't
put enough out there to just get the w But
look again, my family is some Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
I understand the combination of heat and humidity like anybody else.
It's terrible, it's awful. And you know, despite the fact
(04:02):
that Houston has this advantage, they only have seven wins
on the year, so they're not that good of a club.
I think Jack McGlenn is actually one of their bright
spots this season, all things considered. And you know, I,
you know, I respect the goal of celebration too, you know.
I think that's one of these things that some people
are like h and I'm like, you know what, when
you're traded, I kind of feel like loyalty is loyalty,
(04:25):
But at some point you got to be like high
place that's actually accepted and wanted me, you know, thank you,
you know, And also I just that to me was
all things considered, a game that I still believe you
should have got three points out of. But I'm not
going to bemoan it. It's definitely one of those you
got a point on the road of worse. That's not
the worst thing that could happen there.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah, I thought in the beginning of this, we're going
to beat the drums off of them, you know. And
then I kind of feeling that Glenn would have played
with the chip on the shoulder, which I totally get.
You get traded, and you know, Ernst isn't the warmest
and fuzziest of guys with that, so he probably just
got like a text message, hey you trade it. So
(05:08):
I'm sure Jack was a little upset, but I got
agree with both of you. They got the point, you know,
they were Bradley was playing with the roster just to
get guys, keep guys fresh, and save some guys. You know,
if this was a year ago, we would have had
the same eleven playing for all these games. So I guess,
I guess it's good. You know, we saved some people's
(05:29):
legs and then got the result. You know, Nate had
a one game suspension for cards and then Frankie got
thrown out. So did that really affect us on the
next game? Maybe not. So let's get into it. Colorado
at home three to one, the Union with their two
hundredth win, which is a hell of an accomplishment. But
(05:52):
shouldn't they have reached that a little earlier? Adam?
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Do you and I mean no disrespect to our co
host here, do you remember the early year of the Oh?
Speaker 2 (06:01):
I remember that's gonna ask him to Okay.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
So, like I actually believe to get two hundred at
this point? Is it is a decent feet. This shows
how more how remarkable they have been over the last
couple of years. But I mean, shout out to the
Union and they're two hundred win as a franchise. It's
very interesting. You know, as a person who grew up
in the nineties, obviously very few teams have I been
(06:26):
around to see every single win of, but I was
around to see every single Union win. So this is
kind of cool. And two hundred wins, you know, congratulations
to the organization. Way to make it dramatic, voice, you know,
way to way to make it one where the heart
has to stop a couple of times. But uh, you know,
I think when you look at that kind of a match,
(06:48):
you you like, you like that when you look at
it in post, you like a lot of what happens.
But when you're watching it in real time, you are
absolutely losing your mind. You know. It's and I can't
even imagine what it is to play in a match
like that.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
But another another Union Academy product, just sticking it to
us first it was McGlenn now Stefan, you know, just
this this this Academy is the gift that keeps giving
and hurting at the same time. But you were on
the call, I believe. What were your thoughts on the
on the Colorado game that was pretty dramatical.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Yeah, I mean, like you said, I think we created
the most fans. We never did that already this season,
but I know create to Stephant half especially, it was
really always on the tractory of the shot because it
was a lot on target. We meet some big one
as well, but we created it. You know, I think
(07:42):
the team.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Played very well.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
They're just really unlucky to not having maybe three four
goals in the first half because it could have happened.
Everybody was involved. You can see Ano run a lot
of movement. I think everything was was great offensively and defensively.
You know, like one or two times could have the
winning a quick cantacta because it was kind of their
game plan. Uh and uh and they were hard and
(08:06):
when they did it, they there pretty much only opportunity and.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Uh and we're on there.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
But I think you know, they kept playing the same
way and they got rewarded, you know, even if he
came really late in the game, but you know we
got the win.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
They play hard, they you know, keep pushing until then.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
And again great to see you know, who are coming
off the bench, even you know Olive us to help
as well in a cell goal. You see like kind
of all the the hard work from everybody and like
the the thing that Brady Kamil always emphasis about, it's
it's all everybody needs to be involved. And we saw them,
(08:46):
you know, playing a lot of different guys in Houston
to you know, keep a concern. And now you have
like coming off the bench, who are who you know,
the score it's one one and he coming and he
scored two to win the game.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
So great for him for his confidence.
Speaker 7 (08:59):
The backup a.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
Little injury and and now I know we were back
in so it's yeah, it was great to see like
a very very good department. I was not bored at all,
you know, like florals people say, oh you get bored,
you watch again, But this one was what's the great entertainment.
Lots of great stay, lots of big myths of the union.
So it's still what to be done, but you can
(09:20):
see like they can create a lot of chances when.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
They Yeah, and you said it for your I mean
even for for Tye and Michael, what does that do
for their confidence? I mean Tye really after the injury
and being away needed to get a couple of goals
to get that moment and back and you're I mean
get those too late. Like what does that do to
a striker's mentality? Is confidence going into the next half
(09:44):
of the season.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
It's big.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
I mean, especially like having him, you know, like you said,
being injured and not doing of his future you know
thing Baribos going things that we just signed Dani Andim.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
You know, he just shows that.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
Yeah, he's he's a hundred percent you know, involved, wants
to be here, he wants to like score, he wants
to win and stuff. Now for the putting stuff, you know, okay,
which is the best pair you know to to start.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
You know, one game after another.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
And I'm sure we're going to see some rotation if
the three of them like keep playing this way. Even
if Damien didn't score, but he does so many like
big things for the team, you know, holding the ball,
playing you know how coming back you se him chasing
like all those little things that you know sometimes people.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Don't see because they just focus on all your strikers.
So how many goals do you have?
Speaker 5 (10:31):
But in a way, as the Union plays is here,
it's it's number one for you know, Bradley Candle to
have forwards with defense first and help the team. So
those three have been have been great. And you can
even put Oliver us in it, you know, Dolovan coming in.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Like all those those guys.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
But yeah, it's I think it's a great prom to
have and now you know, for the confidence of we are,
that's great to now have him back of you know,
at his stopped knowing that yeah, when.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
He got injured. It's always I'm in jured.
Speaker 5 (10:59):
You know, you don't score or you can be in
your head, you can be like funky, but I think
you can see as a confident of the coaching staff,
which is what do you want.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
As a player.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
You know that the coach put you in he means
that you know, he believes in you and he wants
YouTube player. So yeah, that's great, you know, team management
and hopefully we see more goals coming from different people
and you know the improvement of everybody. But that's a
big plus two of your three or four war. How
do you know brings the board in the back of
(11:29):
the net.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Yeah, Adam, I mean, I know we were touching back
and forth. I know this is an exciting game, but
I was kind of like, man, my blood pressure can't
take this. Can we can we get a three to
one win?
Speaker 3 (11:41):
You first, I want to say exact Stephen is added
to the US national teams full of goalkeepers. You're welcome,
because I'm pretty sure we gave him an entire highlight
tape just to create off of our match alone. Because
twenty seven shots, you know, the fact that you got
(12:02):
eleven of those on target and only scored three goals,
you know, shout out to the man from Coatesville, because
that is definitely a performance that you know is worth
my notting this team though, I want to note the
fact that they created twenty seven shots. You know, the
fact that they were able to create that level of offense.
(12:22):
You know, this has always been a defensive first, counter
first type of franchise, but now you can see that
this team is on the front foot and they're definitely
trying to establish an identity that is scoring a lot
of goals in overwhelming you with offensive prowess as well
(12:44):
as smothering you defensively. You know, like I there is
a three level system to the Union right now, where
offensively in their midfield and in their defense they're going
to choke you out in different ways and the opponent,
it's it's very difficult to challenge that the Union will
(13:07):
let goals up occasionally, but you're never gonna see a
flurry of goals we scored against them, because it's just
not really how they operate as a defense. And it's
it's very refreshing to see them kind of hold it
down from a shaky beginning in the season. And you know,
I'm gonna say this, if you can continue to get
this many contributions, like offensively, you're gonna get twenty seven
(13:32):
shots on goal most of the time, a lesser goalkeeper
is gonna let a lot more of those in and
you're gonna see a lot more of those results that
we were used to seeing a couple of years ago.
Where DC is losing by a touchdown. You know, this
is a scary moment. The dam for Bruno feels like
it's about to break, like it just feels like he's
(13:52):
about to finally get his groove going. And to have
Mika score two goals there, especially the way that he
scolded in those fashion, and to seal a game like that,
to give him the confidence of being the man once again,
that's a really scary attack if you have that. And
I think one of the things that is going to
(14:14):
separate the Union from the rest of this league is
the depth that they have up front. You know, I
still believe you can add another midfielder, especially one of
the creative variety, maybe a pure ten to this roster.
I would love to do that. If you want to
add another offensive minded striker, please let's do it. You know,
I'm not against this. And if you want to give
(14:35):
me one more center back for depth purposes, that's my
Christmas right there. But I still believe what you have
right now is the foundations of a team that can
compete for multiple trophies moving forward.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Well, listen, they get it and we'll get into that.
It's part of my rumors thing, you know. Yeah, they
get a creative midfielder and Ian comes back as the
center back. I'd be thrilled. And looking at head at
the games, I think we've got nine matches back. Nine
matches are left to the playoffs. Three teams. Only three
(15:09):
of those are like ooh that that that that's a
tough game. So yeah, there's a lot to look forward
to this. So in Union news, I've got what I'm
gonna call good, ugh and bad And this is just
Union local soccer news. You're Philadelphia. Union are number one
in gold dot COM's power rankings. I never put any
kind of credence from power rankings unless we're number one.
(15:33):
Then I'm like, man, these guys are so brilliant over
there at gold dot com. So congrats to the Union
for being number one, even over Miami and everybody else.
The meh is the Union of loaned home grown midfielder
David Vasquez, the San Diego I mean, say what you
want and got a little bit of cash and probably
he's gonna be a selling piece and it's good for
(15:53):
him because he's not probably won't be blocked all over
the place like he used with us. So is it
gonna be another homegrown that bites ears in the rear
end in the future, maybe we'll see and then the
not so good I don't know if you saw this, Adam.
Mayor Cheryl Parker abandons the Unity Cup after nine years
(16:14):
and basically just cited safety issues for the Unity Cup.
I've got some thoughts on it. Don't want to get
into it right now, but you know, I just wanted
to let everybody know because it was buried in an
article that yeah, they got rid of the Unity Cup
after nine years. Probably the only thing Mayor Kennedy did
that I actually thought was a good thing because I
(16:35):
know that guy was a joke. But we won't get
into politics, you know us. I have heard that the
Union are looking for adding somebody an upgrade in the midfield.
Haven't gotten too much more of that, but that's what
I'm I heard. And of course we all heard ty
Baibo to NYC or red Bull rumors. Adam, you look shocked.
(16:57):
You haven't seen those rumors.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
No, I've seen them. You know that kind of was like, Okay,
whatever about that.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
You know, I can't I can't see our owners letting
Tye go.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Yeah, no, knowing knowing what I know, Uh, that would
be very interesting. I would be very hard pressed to
imagine that will go down without a major fight. So
I would say they won't let him walk, that's for sure.
So he's not gonna the Union are not gonna squander him,
(17:32):
for sure. So but look, I didn't he's Look, that's exciting,
and I'm happy that he does have these rumors for him.
You know, I think he's gone from a guy who
was a little bit buried on the depth chart behind
Chris Donovan to now a darling in the league right
now and sought after because New York City Football Club
(17:53):
definitely could use it out and out number nine right
now that seems to be missing from their equation over there.
There's a lot of teams that could use a tiber Emo.
So I think that when you're looking at the that
as a river, good for him, you know, I hope.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
I'll just you know, I'll just say, hey, Jay, Richard Ernst,
we know you're listening. Sign that guy. Man sign him.
You know, we want to keep him around. But yeah,
so we'll see lead news. mL ASS beats Liga MX
in the skills challenge at the All Star Game. Pretty impressive, Adam. Yeah,
I didn't think you got that excited about that. That
(18:36):
was July. But but the excitement was MS does win,
you know, whoo be. But we did have three members
of the Union make the team, Ty, Kaien Jacob, and
Ty was the winner goal and got the m v
P so hopefully got a little bonus money or something
like that. So but the best news about it that
(18:57):
I thought, besides Ty was Messi and Jordi album decide it.
They feel the same way about the Major League All
Star Game as I do and said we don't need
to go, so they got suspended.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
So the.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
That was probably the most interesting news out of the
MLS All Star I don't know if you keep the
All Star Game anymore. I know you've got thoughts to
go ahead.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Out real quick, as I haven't really about the game itself.
The game is useless. That's fine if you have the
League's Cup now, the All Star Game is useless. I
just want to point that out, Like the whole premise
of the All Star Game at this iteration of itself
is to merge the two leagues. Correct, Well, you have
an entire tournament that does that already. You don't need
an All Star game. It just feels redundant at that point.
(19:40):
Go back if you want to go back to East West.
You know that'd be cool. I'd watch that game. But
as long as you're having like a weird hodgepodge of
MLS All Stars, which is gonna almost be like only
eighteen of like the twenty some plus clubs we have representatives,
it's weird.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Anyway.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
The thing that I've I'm fascinating about just the idea
of Messi and Geordie not going to this and getting
suspended is just the idea that Like, I listen to
the Dan LeBatard show down in Miami and they have
their local hour and one of their main executive producers
is a major Intermiami fan and just a very knowledgeable
(20:24):
person about soccer. He's also a Chelsea fan, and when
he spoke about it, and I know it was kind
of tongue in cheek, but he basically was just saying, like,
for the amount of stuff that Messi has done recently,
they should have just let this slide. They should have
just let it go. They should have just let him
go home. Someone just claim it's an injury as opposed
to just a straight blowoff. And he was a part
(20:49):
of the only team in MLS to perform well in
the Club World Cup. He's been carrying views in Jersey
sales in this league for the last two to three years.
All these things combined, he should not be suspended for
missing an All Star game. That is by and large
something that I don't I don't believe in personally myself.
(21:12):
And I was just like tough, no one's above the law. YadA, YadA, YadA.
Suspend him. You can't just blow off the league because
because when we're trying to get credibility and not trying
to look like the quote unquote retirement league, even though
apparently Muller is going to go to Vancouver soon, because uh,
(21:33):
the stars quote unquote blowing off their obligated activities doesn't
really help the image of us. Because I don't really
believe if Messi was in the the equivalency of a
Premier League All Star game that he's going to be like, yeah,
let me not go and do that, you know, let
me absolutely just like I'm gonna boor bora instead.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
I mean, listen, he could have popped on a private chat,
showed up making appearance, not play, just like you said,
I've got a KF strain. I'm not playing, but way
from the sidelines, and people would have been fine. So
you know, I was, I was clear he got suspend
I was glad he got angry.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
You know, I was.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
I was all right, Saba, you want to weigh in
as a former player, you know about people blowing off
these you know, uh, you know all Star exhibition games.
Any any thoughts on the suspension what with with Sebastian
the two have gone to the All Star Game.
Speaker 7 (22:25):
Yeah, I mean it's a it's annoy. It's an honor
to be I guess scored to an or a game.
Speaker 5 (22:29):
But you know, for me, see for sure he's the
top of the top, so I can see for him
and his shoes is kind of be like, yeah, whatever.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
But I feel it's a big responsibility.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
You know, he had on the league and we pay
him so much money for you know, being the face
everything you have to do it, and it was a
rough expectation at their style. We all know how the
you know in the US, how you want to do it.
It's com compared to Europe. It's you know something you
have a unique thing to do that. But you want
to show, you know, and you want your best player
(23:00):
to be here. And even if it's not too plays
a game. He could have done the challenge, compution challenge
or whatever it is, you know, the day before.
Speaker 7 (23:08):
I don't know, but yeah, it was for me.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
It's yeah, of course, you know followed me are like, yeah, okay,
I understand why he's not playing. He's old and he
has to do amazing and he doesn't want to play
that game. And the same time, it's like, do you
know how much money.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
We pay him?
Speaker 7 (23:24):
You know, with especially Apple and everything. He's you know,
it's all about him, so he has to be here otherwise.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
You know why we pay him that much? I understand
who is But in the same time, it's like it's
less money for any other team.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Yeah, And and big thing about the MLS All Star Game.
The only reason I would go would be for the meetings.
You know, there's owners meetings, there's executive meetings, there's there's
you know players, you know, that's the whole reason. That's
a big networking event. That's why people are going to
this thing. So and speaking of at the meetings, Uh,
(23:58):
the calendar change coming soon, Don Garber literally addresses, and
so we believe that alignment is something that makes sense.
So it seems like Adam and Seba that the calendar
change might come sooner than later. Maybe twenty twenty seven.
I don't know, and I know we've talked about it,
and I'm starting to if I can be convinced that
they can do it the right way, take a winter
(24:21):
break and avoid like or schedule. Hey, if we're going
to play in February, we're only playing in Texas and
Florida and California away games that I could get behind this.
So I don't know. If you guys want to weigh
in real quick on the calendar change and your thoughts
just fire away.
Speaker 7 (24:40):
I'm okay, who I talk about it and see what happened,
or you'll never know.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
I mean, I think it's kind of dumb in a
league that still has to grow, But it makes sense
if you're trying to be normalized as a league as
opposed to trying to be the one that plays in
summer the whole time. The weather thing is going to
be a problem. It's I mean, FIFA just realized that
it gets hot in summer in America and they're scrambling
(25:07):
to figure out how to do the stadiums for the
World Cup.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
You know.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
I just feel like they don't realize it also gets
very cold here too. But we'll see, you know. I
don't see it beating college football in Columbus, so I
don't know if that's good for the crew, you know,
and things like that.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
So yeah, we're gonna see, and it's something that we'll
keep an eye on. One other thing that I'll just mention,
the League's Cup started. Since the Union aren't in it,
I really don't care. I've been kind of casually watching
it on FS one, but you know, I don't think
I'm gonna go over any results on the pot. I
don't think anyone has any interest that much in the
(25:45):
League's Cup until it gets a little further along.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
America is getting it's butt kicked. There's your analysis.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
You have to read one on the All Star Game.
I can't believe that.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
Yeah, Liga m Mecki is taking us behind the woodshed
right now.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
Speaking of wood sheds in our Miami just did the
transfer woodshed to the rest of the league. I guess
you saw this, Adam.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
What are they really this is the really quickest rant
in the history of mankind? What are they doing? How
are they allowed to do this? Someone has to explain
this to me. What is the money being moved here?
There's again the Miami podcast I listened to. They themselves
are not even one hundred percent sure how this is possible.
(26:31):
They don't understand how the money is working. They don't
and I don't get it. I want urths to get
fined again because I'm sure he's asking the exact same questions,
like you have a set of rules that we are
all obliging by. And look, it doesn't affect the union
because the union are never going to spend that level
(26:51):
of money anyway, at least not in the short term.
But it is insane to me that you were allowing
Miami and by proxy Los Angeles Football Club to build
super teams in terms of notoriety. Maybe not in terms
of talent, because it's a little over the hill. In
terms of notoriety, you're allowing him to get some of
the biggest names in the sport to play for them
(27:13):
under a salary cap that would literally not happen in
any video game alive. Everyone, every FIFA iteration would say,
this is an I legal transaction you're doing. How are
you allowed to do this? There's no money for this?
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Well, Adam, I'm willing to bet that if you went
to Inner Miami's front office and did some digging, you
would find someone that works there that used to work
for the University of Miami in the eighties. Because that's
basically what this is. There's some shady booster crap going on.
I don't I can't explain it, but.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
No, I s in shady because the booster aspect would be, Oh,
it's just people from Miami helping the program do this.
This is a league thing. This is for sure because
Major League Soccer has to allow this to happen. People
forget we play in a single entity league. Everyone is
a part of the grand umbrella that is Major League Soccer.
(28:08):
So Major League Soccer has to approve of them doing
this and circumventing the exact rules that they put in
place in the like in the first place. That's just
the thing I'm confused about. Am. I even mad at
them getting the player itself. I love that people want
to come to MLS Now, it's beautiful.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
They're getting younger, they're getting more talented.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
I just want to know how they're allowed to do
that based off of the information I've previously had on
the subject.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
So about anything you're saying about, but Rigo de Paul
coming from Athletical Madrid to Inner Miami.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
Is nothing much too odd besides saying to the league, okay,
if you do that, let's just fucking open the gate
and everybody can spend whatever they want. The teams they
want to make, you know, with the money they have,
and now there's no more discussion. Nobody can complain. It's like,
you want to spend, you spend. But yeah, it's very weird,
like how many players they can get for the budget
(29:14):
everything is supposed to do. So yeah, I'm with Adam.
Speaker 7 (29:17):
It's it's a bit fishy.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
What's going on.
Speaker 5 (29:20):
But yeah, it's it's well it is, but you know,
it's good to have another great player. But I think,
like the rules of the you know, cap and everything.
If I think teams want to spend money, which is great,
and want to get all of great player, go ahead,
you know, make a super team. Spend your own money,
but don't make in the same umbrellas as the rules
(29:41):
of you know, every club in this league.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Totally great, totally great, Atlanta United, Atlanta United, Londel Noah
Cup to Colorado with a permanentary option the Crew. Uh
who did the Crew get from?
Speaker 4 (29:59):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (29:59):
The have someone from the Egyptian team, Adam, I can't remember,
I'm looking at it. But it was a seven and
a half million dollar FAE. So Columbus strengthen them, which
is something we want to look at as being you know,
the Union and the Crew in Cincinnati and Miami are
the teams we have to battle in the.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
East to Nashville.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Oh yeah, in Nashville. But yeah, so the Crew made
some moves. So yeah, the transfer markets opening and going,
and let's hope Ernest can find some magic. Where ern
finds magic, you know, we we know his m He's
going to pull a guy that we're gonna be like,
who the hell is this guy and hopefully turns into
the next kaivon you know, match previews coming up, Adham,
(30:40):
Are you excited? On Saturday, Frankfurt comes to town, the
return of Paxton Aaronson and big news because Tynehand's articles
said it wasn't being broadcast. It is going to be
broadcast at Philadelphia Union dot com. Sebah and Dave are
doing the broadcast and it will be on there, the website,
the YouTube channel, which you know, maybe that's a chance
(31:01):
for the Union to skirt around Apple once in a
while and get that. So, uh, Seba, I'll let you
talk about it real quick because you're broadcasting it. What
are your thoughts for Frankfurt United coming up?
Speaker 7 (31:12):
I mean, I think it's gonna be pretty much. I
will say a practice game for both teams.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
You know, Frankfield tried to get ready for that season
and you know, being a break with not being an
X Cup and try to get ready for you know, Toronto.
So we're going to see probably everybody play some minutes
and probably try I think they're going to take that
game to a preparation of what they would like to
to do against to Auto.
Speaker 7 (31:38):
But you know, so I was fun to to play
the devant team for a defunt country.
Speaker 5 (31:42):
Uh. You know, the frank Feld player he had to
to get ready as well, and they're don't play harp
because some of them maybe he wants to show to
their culture what they can do. And uh and play
well in this precison game. So that's great to for
the team to show it on on YouTube. I know
it's a feed who is going to be used by
the gentleman comment Frankfurt to show them to their fans. Yeah,
(32:05):
I think it's it's by what we can do to
be able to show a friendly game to everybody in Frankfurt.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
And Adam, do you think another Academy product will bite
the Union in the rear end and steal victory from
us on this exhibition game? What do you think Paxson's
gonna do.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
So, Matthew, did you know that Frankfurt's airport is the
largest airport in Germany. It is the international hub. It
is actually the airport for which Philadelphia if you're flying
into Germany, that's more likely where you're going to fly into.
It is also a major railway hub and a hub
of industry. There's many of the major conglomerates and juggernauts
(32:44):
of German industry are centralized in Frankfurt. It has a
great number of museums as well as beautiful stadiums and
some of the best architecture around, with also being the
fifth largest city in Germany. Everything I just said was
infinitely more interesting than this game we were about to
watch on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Adam, did you know Frankfort they drink more cighter than beer,
unlike the rest of Germany.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
It is a fact that I did not know, but
I'm going to add that to my bolded point list. Look,
I like me a good friendly Everyone have fun. Everyone
enjoyed the sunshine. Please nobody get hurt. Enjoyed you two
versus some weird version of Frankfurt's A and a half team.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
I guess what are we doing?
Speaker 3 (33:29):
But enjoy it?
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Well, let's get it to something that you will care about.
August the Knife Home versus Toronto FC. Toronto just lost
to Charlotte, to know, So listen, this is a chance
to reboot the season, you know, turn the page from
the All Star break and everything else and get moving
and look at these last nine games. So who would
(33:53):
like to preview Toronto? Adam? You want to go first?
And then we'll let sub do it. All right, hit
it Toronto?
Speaker 3 (33:59):
What do you think rotate the squad that game? I
think you should be able to beat Toronto in their
current state. With Andrew ricinnet and with most of your
guys rotated. I don't know what part of the trio
you want to start, but start two of them and
have Chris Donovan on the trigger. Ready, score two goals,
get everybody out of there, and prepare for the US
(34:20):
Open Cup, because that's an infinitely more important game than
this game that is gonna be played against Toronto. I get,
I mean every game is important, but at this state
with Toronto, you should be able to do something decent
at home against or excuse decent against them with a
rotated squad, and you have to prepare for the Red
Bull game that had to be repostponed back into into
(34:44):
August thirteenth. I think if you were the Union, you
must prioritize this competition as well as anything that involves
you possibly getting silverware, because you're too good to not.
You know, this is this is an opportunity for you.
So I would say to waste and to truly waste
energy on the Toronto match. You know, even if it
(35:05):
results in a drawer, or even god forbid, a loss,
would still not be as important as making sure everyone
is healthy and ready for that game against Red Bull.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Well, now I got to go to a certified official
coach with paperwork sebascially too. What do you think about
this Toronto game?
Speaker 5 (35:23):
Yeah, I disagree with uh with Adam about the union
and I think, you know, it's home games. They need
to go for those three points, you know, and and
then you know, move on to the next game in
open Cup. But yeah, it's a it's a team with
a struggling I think at home, having you know, two
weeks to profause the game.
Speaker 7 (35:41):
I think it's great.
Speaker 5 (35:43):
Hopefully, you know, like Adam saying, no injury, get strengthfored everybody,
you know, just get some minutes, you know, get to
get ready and then when they get back on Monday,
you know they are ready to uh get you know,
into Toronto and get the three points and after you
receive what's going on and when we you know, receive
a red board. And it's a home games, there's no travel.
(36:04):
I think it's enough time. But I would love to
just get another three points, stay on top of the
you know, East and supporter shield and you know, keep
putting pressure on all the other team.
Speaker 7 (36:16):
Right now, a lot of them are.
Speaker 5 (36:17):
Playing bigs Cup, so we play in open Cabbage is
great another game for the team, But yeah, I believe
that for me three points.
Speaker 7 (36:26):
It's it's very important against Toronto.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Yeah, I mean I want to see that I win
against Toronto and keep everybody healthy and ready, because Adam,
you previewed it, and I'll say it now, let's get
into it. We've got Red Bull at home August thirteenth.
You know, it's it's a it's a team that we've
had a lot of success against in recent years, and
it's a team that we should have success against and
(36:51):
the team I'm hoping we're not going to overlook in
the Open Cup. So Adam, your thoughts on Red Bull.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
I look, I and this is my own personal bias,
and I think you know some of has lived through
a little of this, but like to go, I vividly
remember every one of those Open Cup runs, you know,
I remember fourteen, sixteen, and eighteen very very vividly. That
was where I really fell in love with this club,
but also felt my first true heartbreak with this club.
(37:19):
And for me personally, I think it's really important that
this team tries to prioritize to get this this this title,
especially with the teams that are left and especially with
the team that it has. I think in the past
when they played Seattle, when they played Kansas City, I
didn't believe they had the best team.
Speaker 7 (37:41):
You know.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
I believe they went into that hoping and having an
opportunity to win, But I don't believe they had the
best roster. I believe they have the best roster left
in the tournament, and therefore I believe, you know, I
don't want to treat it like Chelsea in the Conference League,
but I'm saying to myself, you should win this trophy.
(38:01):
Take it seriously, please because you can, you know. And
if they can definitely win this matchup against Red Bull
and get themselves into the semifinals, I think you will
see a Union team definitely looking to prioritize games around
it in terms of making sure that they're healthy and
ready for a possible title run.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Yeah. So, I mean you've you've been part of those
Open Cup teams. What are your thoughts on this upcoming
Red Bull and the success that we've had against Red Bull?
Is that a is there any warning that we might
be like, well, we've been beating red Bull all this time,
we got this.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
No.
Speaker 7 (38:38):
Yeah, I feel like it's a defound competition.
Speaker 5 (38:42):
But again, I agree with what Adam is saying if
you just say, like the Open Cup is important, I
really believe Open Cup is important too. But I feel
like first it's Toronto, you know, and then they are
gonna be like hundred percent on like trying to win
this open Gume game. It's we have two wins away
to get a first Open Cup in sorry for the union,
(39:02):
so I don't see them not taking it elsely, it's
it'd be weird. So now I think, you know, the
the team is gonna play, will be ready, uh and
hopefully we yeah, we get a good you know game.
I think the game of Toronto I think will help
(39:23):
with the game on Wednesday, because I think if we
do a great game against Toronto and which is you know,
torented and with struggling with not really to come here
maybe to get a win or play you know, without fear,
then you can play a team of Red Bulls is
going to really come here to to make a result
that happen. So it's I think it's a Toronto game
(39:43):
will give a lot of confidence for the Wednesday game
against the Red bull at home again because then we
play the Red Bulls again at their house, so which
just one will be important but.
Speaker 7 (39:54):
You know, if we beat them both, it'll be perfect.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
I like where your heads are. I'm hoping that happened
for sure. You know, I'm excited because I'm actually gonna
be home, so I'm gonna be able to go to
Toronto into that Red Bull game. So I'm glad I
didn't opt out. I'm hoping the crowd comes to the
Open Cup game since you know, we fought so hard
to keep the Open Cup game tongue in cheek, but yeah,
so I'm looking forward to two good results and finishing
(40:19):
up this season. While we're wrapping this up, Seb, I
just have to ask, how was the camp? How was
the Little two soccer summer camp?
Speaker 5 (40:28):
We had a perfect week whether it was unbolvbor you know,
no rain, no too hot like this week now, it
was great and all the kids were fantastic, lots of fun,
a lot of soccer and uh yeah and uh and
we got ten as well, so it was nice.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
See that's the reason a book for next year. Everybody
keep it on your calendar the summer and Adam any
thoughts on the Phoenix. I know you guys, have you
wrapped it up or you wrapped up?
Speaker 3 (40:53):
It is a wrap. We did not make the playoffs
this year, and we just had our lovely doubleheader of
the Fitness Day at the Franklin Institute as well as
the wild Wood Spectacular, the Wilwood Beach Tournament that we
co host with him, which is the largest outdoor beach
frisbee tournament in the world.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
Fun fact, but yeah, bringing Adam Pedia back today in
this episode, I.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
Mean, when it's my employers, it's a little bit of
a cheat code. But yeah, we appreciate everyone who came out.
There's actually a couple of people from the Suns of
Ben who came out, and I really appreciate them doing
that this season. We're gonna be back with a vengeance
next year's I'm actually really excited for next season. I
think our team is poisoned on making a little bit
(41:40):
of a run and will be year three in Delco.
So we have finally established a home in Aston, PA,
So I hope it brings some more people out.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
Sounds good, all right, unless you guys have any other points,
I think we can put a bubble on this. This
was episode number forty five of X's in the U.
I want to thank both you gentlemen for joining me
and thank everybody out there for listening and we will
see at Super Ru Park, Go Union
