(00:00):
Something brand new that we're doing here. It's a wheeling nailor Wednesday where I
have one of the players joined mein studio and the guinea pig so to
say, but nothing real challenging thathe has to deal with here. David
Jankowski joanted me here in the studio. So David, thanks so much for
taking some time to talk man.Yeah, for sure, thanks for having
me on. Corey. So justwant to revisit the game. On the
game on Saturday against Cincinnati. Ofcourse, you were the one that came
(00:22):
through with the first goal of theseason, but it was kind of off
a deflection off the rebound and everything. So put us in your shoes or
in this case, your skates.Whenever you're presented with an opportunity like that
on the rebound, what all's goingthrough your mind to make sure that you
capitalize. Yeah, I mean onthat one in particular, we were on
the power play and I was doingmy best to just try and find some
(00:45):
open ice and you know, tryand find those spots where you can kind
of get in between their defenders there, and Frasky put a really good shot
on net which was able to kickout a rebound to me, and I
think at that point, when youget that puck in the slot, your
just instincts kind of take over andyou're just trying to find and you have
a split second there and try andfind some space for it in the net,
And I think that's kind of whathappened there. Fraski, who he's
referring to, was Jordan Frasca, one of his teammates, someone who we
(01:07):
might have on here in the nearfuture, but definitely one of the young
guys that made an impact on theteam last year. Same with you as
well, joining the team late lastseason. So what were some of the
things that that you were able topick up on last season that have benefited
you this season. Yeah, Ithink it was a really good experience being
able to get those couple of weekshere at the end of last year.
Just coming into camp being familiar witheveryone, you know, the area,
(01:30):
the staff, the players. Itmade it made it an easier transition,
I would say, to come intothis year. So I think just uh,
just being more comfortable just on aneveryday basis has really helped to start
this year off. And with yourbrother being in the NHL former Penguin as
well, that's a pretty good brainto pick, right. Yeah, for
sure. We're really close. Wetalk every day, texting back and forth
(01:52):
about you know, each other's gamesand and how things are going over where
he's at and where I'm at.So we're always talking and it's a really
good outlet to have a good deal. Again, David Jankowski from the forward
for the Wheeling Nailors, joining mehere on the show as part of a
Wheeling Nailer Wednesday that we're going tobe doing throughout the season. So,
David, I know, we're onlya game into the season and you have
a couple more road games before thehome opener on November fourth, But from
(02:15):
what you've seen in these first coupleof weeks, the team being together and
everything, what has stood out toyou the most? What makes you feel
like this season is going to bea special one? Yeah, I mean,
I think right from the get gohere, the mentality at camp and
and pretty much the whole organization hasbeen in and we want to win this
year. And that's always a reallynice situation to come into. And when
(02:37):
everyone's on that same page and thestaff is instilling in the players and you
can really see the players, youknow, I've started, We've started gel
really well and we're picking up onthat what the coaching staff's trying to lay
down for us. And I thinkevery day that goes by, we're getting
more and more comfortable with each otherand just with the systems and everything that
they're putting in place. So,like you said, it's early, We've
(02:58):
only had one game, but hopefullywe can continue to build some momentum here,
and uh, you know, I'mreally liking where we're at right now.
So those two row games are happeningthis weekend. They're in Kalamazoo Friday
night at seven o'clock and then fortand then Fort Wayne Saturday night at seven
thirties. So, David, whatare the goals for this weekend, other
than to hopefully win both of thosegames, what are some of the things
(03:19):
that you're looking to improve on tokeep the success they keep the success rolling
here early in the season. Yeah, you know, we had our first
game and we're able to get thatwin. So I think just not getting
complacent, you know, continuing tobuild on our game. You know,
obviously the first game we won,but there's a lot of mistakes and a
lot of learning to be had.So we've been going through video on a
few different things and just trying toclean up some some areas that you know,
(03:43):
we maybe could have could have donea better job on in the first
game, and ultimately just continuing totry and you know, play fast.
Everyone's got legs early in the season, so I think it's important that we
try to dictate the pace of everygame. And uh and yeah, we're
just trying to trying to build onit. So you guys are definitely off
to a hot start yourself, includedwith scoring the first goal on the season,
(04:03):
and we're certainly hoping for the bestwhen you guys go out on the
road this coming weekend. Here,David, thank you so much for your
time and best luck the rest ofit away man, thank you very much,
and don't forget that you can catchboth of those games against Kalamazoo and
Fort Wayne and pretty much every Naylor'sgame all season long over on our sister

(04:26):
