(00:00):
Corey klugear with you as you're makingthat great escape from work. We thank
you so much for tuning in hereon this Thursday afternoon. And on another
case where we postponed Wheeling Naylor Wednesdayto Thursday because they had a game over
in Indiana yesterday. And one ofthe young guns joining me here in the
studio, defenseman Avery Winslow, herein the studio this time around. So
every thanks for stoping bye, thanksfor having me, And just want to
(00:20):
get back to last week here becausethe Thanksgiving Eve game definitely a game that
you're never going to soon forget becausenot only did you make your professional debut
in that game, but you alsoscored your first professional goals. So just
take us through what you were seeingon the ice to find the back of
the net and just the overall feelingof scoring that goal. Yeah, I
mean it was incredible. Definitely theway you want to start off your professional
(00:42):
career for sure. But yeah,I mean I was coming down the ice
and got a little little gift onmy stick from their defenseman and just kind
of went in on a two onone. I gave a pass back door
to Leizer and he got a shoton net, and I kind of just
saw the rebound sitting there, soI went in there and put it in
the net, and a great feeling. Now, who was after the game?
(01:03):
Who was the first call that youmade to say you scored the first
goal? My parents always going tobe my parents. My parents are my
rock and my soul, so they'realways gonna be my first call when something
good in my life happens. Evenwhen something bad happens, there always can
be my first call. So gooddeals. So now to begin the season,
you weren't initially on the ice atfirst, so just take us through
(01:23):
the overall grind of just working atit and eventually getting the opportunity here to
see some ice and game action.Yeah, I mean, obviously I had
to work for it. Nothing's givento you. Obviously, it's pro hockey
now, so you got to earneverything you get. And I was just
happy to get the opportunity to stepin there on a big, big home
game and be able to hit theback of the net was obviously the cherry
(01:46):
on top. So again, AveryWinslow, defenseman for the Wheeling Naylor's joining
me here on a Wheeling Naylor Wednesday. That is really happening on Thursday because
of the game that they had yesterdayover in Indiana. So Ripe Young a
ju in your early twenties here Averygetting introduced to the pro game in your
first couple of games here, whatkind of differences have you noticed about your
(02:07):
time up in juniors with North Bayand playing professionally Now, honestly, it's
just a lifestyle. It's just alot different off the ice. You have
a lot more time to spend withthe boys. You know, you're out
of the rink every day by twelveo'clock, so you got the rest of
the day to you know, doactivities with the guys, get closer as
a group, which I think isreally unique in the pro hockey world.
(02:28):
It's great to be able to justspend that extra time. I'd say that's
been the biggest change for me cominginto this pro lifestyle and now with you
seeing some game action. It comesout of time when the Nailers are in
the portion of the schedule where theysee a lot of Central Division teams and
this division has just absolutely been agauntlet these last few years here. So
tell us about the experience of thatand facing this top nuts talent at this
(02:52):
point in the season. Yeah,I mean, I think you go into
every game knowing that you know,no game's given to you in this league.
Every game is going to be abattle. It doesn't matter if to
Winday night, a Friday night,or a Sunday night. You know that
that team's always going to be bringingtheir best. So you got to just
be dialed in and be ready togo every night. So I'll get you
out of here on this question.Avery another weekend where you have four games
in five days, but it's alittle bit different here because it's a little
(03:14):
bit back and forth. Of course, you're on the road against the Indie
Fuel last night, you're back hometomorrow night, but then you're back on
the road Saturday, you're back homeSundays. So just what goes into making
sure you're fresh for all those gamesand just some of the keys to making
this a successful weekend. Yeah, just doing the little things after practice,
you know, getting in the gym, getting that lift in still to keep
that you know, you keep yourbody moving, you know, getting that
(03:36):
little couple extra stretches, rolling out. Just taking care of the body,
I'd say is the biggest key tokeeping going out there for the late games
in the weekend. You just wantto be ready to go and have that
body feeling and the best it can. Absolutely so. Again, the Nailers
are home tomorrow night at seven tenand Sunday afternoon at four ten. If
you're able to make it out, coming out and do so heading out to
West Banko Arena. But don't forgetthat if you can't make it out,
(03:58):
make sure you catch all the actionover on our sister station Mixed ninety seven
three. Because lots of good thingshappening for the Wheeling Nailers as the season
really gets into full swing here, especially some good things happening these days for
defenseman Avery Winslow, our guest thisweek on Wheeling Naylor Wednesday, which is
really happening on Thursday again. SoAvery, thank you so much for stiming
by here in the studio. Bestlucky you the rest of away man,
thanks for having me, and again, just some big things happening here for
(04:19):
Avery. You might not think thatFlorida is necessarily a hotbed for hockey,
but he is from Florida. Wasable to attend a prospects camp with the
Tampa Bay Lightning a couple of yearsago and now everything's starting to fall in
place for him here as he seeshis first action with the Wheeling Nailers so
again their home Friday night against Toledoat seven ten, home Sunday afternoon against
Kalamazoo at four to ten. Makesure you're coming out to West Bank Arena,
(04:41):
