Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to the Chamber Connection on Talk Radio ten eighty,
a program designed for small business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and
community members who are eager to learn more about the
intricacies of running a successful business, hosted by that dedicated
staff of the Chamber of Saint Matthews. Now here's your
host for this week, Amanda Harper, director of Member Services.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Good morning everyone. I hope everybody is having a great
morning so far. I'm Amanda Harper. I'm the director of
Member Services, as the intro said, here at the Chamber
of Saint Matthews and today with me, I have a
very special guest, Lily McDonough with pay Forward.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Hi Lily, Hi Amanda, thank you so much for having
me on the show today.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
I am so excited just to be here with you all.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
I know, it's so much fun. We love recording the shows.
There's so much fun. We could to connect with the
members and you know, build these relationships and it's so
much fun.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
So let's get started, see right, let's do it well.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
First up, we have a big announcement that we would
like to make regarding the Chamber of Saint Matthew's with
Pay Forward, and that is we have recently just done
a new affinity partner with them.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Woo.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
So, Lily, what are the benefits of being a chamber
member and going through pay Forwards for your payroll?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yes, absolutely, so we are absolutely thrilled to be the
new payroll partner with the Saint Matthew's Chamber. We absolutely
love being a part of this chamber, so we're excited
to offer some exclusive benefits to Chamber members and you know,
for their business services. So some of the perks that
you guys get with pay Forwards and being a Chamber
member is that you get twenty percent off automatically with

(01:57):
your payroll fees or time keeping. You'll also get a
waived implementation fee.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
And this is the best part about it.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
You get your first two months free, meaning we really
want to stake our name on our service, on the
quality that you a service that you received with us,
So we really want to put our money where our
mouth is. So first two months you get a free
you get to see how amazing pay Forwards is for
your business and get that cost savings right.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
And you know, even generally they have pretty competitive prices
is what I've heard as far as like having them
do your payroll. So even you know, outside of a
chamber membership, you're going to save money with using pay forwards.
Very competitive pricing, amazing people to work with, and you know,

(02:46):
the chamber gets to hang out with Lily, and Lily
is like the be's knees, which if you're an active member,
you know who Lily is. She is my partner in crime.
We're always goofing off together. I'm surprised that they let
us record the gether.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
I know we get business done, but we do it
in a fun way.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yes, all right, so let's get a little bit back.
Let's go tell me a little bit about pay forward.
So what is pay forward? What inspired the creation of
pay forward? Just give me you know any kind of
overhead like that?

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
So pay Forwards was formed about six and a half
years ago and actually had stemmed from an other local
payroll company called APS if you have ever heard of it. So,
about twenty twenty five years in service here in Louisville
as a payroll company, a company came in bought the
bigger book of business and didn't really want the mom
and pop shops, the smaller businesses. So that's where our owner,

(03:39):
Eric Monks, came in, took that business and formed pay Forwards.
So really our team's been with us for almost twenty
twenty five years, and some of them followed him to
this new company, so they really really know payroll, payroll,
tax filing. But really the best thing about is that
we're a local company. So we're right here in Louisville,
in the heart of Middletown's we're our office is, but

(04:00):
we service a lot of Kentucky, Southern Indiana, but we
do taxes in about forty six different states right now.
Oh really, just because you know, remote employees. After COVID
that's you know, kind of booming, or businesses get acquired
in different states, so we can service almost anywhere. But
really service is what's going to stand us apart from

(04:21):
our competition, just because we have that quality, dedicated rep
that you receive at their direct phone, direct email, and
they're absolutely phenomenal. I sit next to some of them
in the office and they really really know their stuff
and they really know our businesses that we work with.
Right just because we haven't had any turnover knock on wood,

(04:41):
you know, so the same people that you know call
in six years ago is when we form pay Forwards,
it's the same person they talked to today.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
So that's been really cool to see.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
That is really cool, and you don't get that from
anywhere because, like I know, like especially with my generation,
like millennials and lower I know, like a lot of
times you're seeing like high turnover rates with employees and
that's pretty cool to see that somebody just followed over
and like they're just taking the account. Yeah, So, I

(05:10):
mean that speaks a lot to pay Forwards and you know,
the culture that you all set in your office.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Yes, Eric treats us very very well and he really
focuses on that work life balance and making sure we're
not taking too much on So that's really why our
retention is so high. And he's just great to work for.
So it's been a really really fun company to be
a part of.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Good. I love that. So can you explain how pay
forward platform works for businesses and customers? Sure? So just
kind of like a short overview of you know what
you're looking at.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yeah, absolutely, So with pay Forwards, we kind of operate
actually off of two different platforms. Okay. Just really cool
because we can do from one employee es corps all
the way to a few thousand, So really we want
to make sure we have those platforms kind of tailored
to the business's needs and kind of forming the platform

(06:04):
around what they're looking for versus trying to fit them
into this box of what the platform can do. So
really we would create on one of the two platforms
online log in a portal per se that the admin
owner whoever's running payroll can log into, record the hours,
and then process payroll.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
So it's a super easy process to do.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Our other platform has HR technology, so if you're looking
for more of an onboarding and benefit management applicant tracking
that kind of system, we do offer that too, on
top of payroll and payroll tax filing.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
That's very cool. That's super cool. Yeah, So can I
ask what are the most popular features of the pay
forward platform? Is there something that's super cool that you
think so?

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Yeah, Well, I just love that it's called employee self service,
So you have an app that you can go on
that your employees can go on. They can if you
want to let them change their information, such as they
change their address, if they need to change their filings.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Bank account information. But really they can download.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Their own paystubs, their own w twos and as an
payroll admin, you know, it kind of saves you some
time of being the middleman of having to go in,
pull the information send it over. Especially if someone's let's say,
buying a house and need those pay stubs, need those
W two's really wants to get that process going. It's
just kind of faster for them to just be able
to log in, pull it and just kind of send
it off.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Absolutely, anytime you can put something into an app, you're
going to reach the hearts of millions, because none of
us again I'm gonna go with the millennial on below.
We do not like making phone calls. We are not
a phone call place. And if you put me on hold,
I do not want that forty minute flute solo to
you know, just make me more anxious about talking on

(07:49):
the phone. So this is great the app, the technology.
I will say that we switched over as well, and
I love the app. I love being able to go
on there and like see exactly everything. It wasn't quite
like that with who we were with before. So it's
really cool to get all the access to my payroll

(08:11):
or my paychecks or you know, switch it up or
whatever you want to do. So I think that's really cool. Yeah,
So do you all do anything specifically to contribute to
local economic growth or are you looking for like looking
to do something like that in the future.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
At some point.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
We are just we're trying to work on different kind
of reward system community partnerships. The really cool thing is
partnering with the chamber. It's a good way to give
back to local communities. We're all part of some other
chambers as well, have some local partnerships there. We really
love our nonprofit clients that we work with, so whenever
they have events, we try to give back to them

(08:55):
as well. So there's a few ways we're currently doing that,
but there's ways in the future that we're planning on
it and that is soon to come.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Nice love that And like I said earlier, Lily is
a very big part of the chamber and she's always
volunteering doing all kinds of stuff with us, and it's
just it's amazing and just just knowing that there's an
employer out there like Eric with pay forwards that you know,
just kind of lets you do it and grow the

(09:23):
business and just it's it's a wonderful company, I believe, yeahheartedly.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
Absolutely he really that's the reason why he chose pay
Forwards as a name.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
Actually is like to pay it forward.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
So at some point, hopefully in the next you know,
a few years year or so, we really want to
create a partnership program for local communities here and you know, Kentucky,
Indiana to pay it forward to you know, local nonprofits
or businesses.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
I literally love that. Yeah, I cannot believe that I'm today's.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
Years old before I've realized that that's what that meant.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
So here we are.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
No, No, I know it's not something we probably talked
about enough, but.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Cool, Yes, you really should talk about low. I know
we're trying. We're kind of getting it under our belt.
We're trying to you know, kind of lifted.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Are growing as far as sales team and like community
outreach stuff too. Like I mean, six years is a
big number, but at the same time, it's still very new,
you know, as far as business goes. So I think
that that's really great that that that is incorporated in
your rol's name. And I cannot even.

Speaker 5 (10:28):
Like rise, well you're hearing it here first, my flabbers
are gasted. Oh so that kind of takes care of
like your goals for the next five to ten years,
just trying to get the community outreach all.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
The good stuff. Let's see here, are there any upcoming
real quick before we go to break, Are there any
upcoming features or innovations that pay Forwards may be excited about.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Well, the systems are always kind of evolving and adapting
with kind of the world we're in today. I feel
like technology is always having to be adapted, so we're
always looking for those system updates that we have on
the platform, whether it's making sure the timekeepings as fast
as processing when people clock in clock out it's almost
instantaneous loaded into the system, or if it's payroll processing,

(11:20):
just kind of making it easier and less uh less
steps for the admin to go through, just kind of
click a button, boom bam, it's done and it's kind
of out of their hair for until the next processing.
So there's always there's always some technology is happening.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
So technology grows so fast. So yeah, all right, Well
we will be back very shortly with Lily McDonough from
pay Forwards and see you in just a bit.

Speaker 6 (11:48):

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Talk Radio ten eighty Real News, Real Talk and iHeartRadio Station.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Hello everybody, and welcome back to the Chamber Connection on
Talk Radio ten eighty and today we are going to
finish up our conversation with Miss Lily with pay Forwards.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Whoo whoo.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
All right, so a little bit before the break, we
talked about the Infinity program. We've talked about some things
that Pay Forwards does with the community and all the
things like that and how you all are trying to grow.
But I would like to know what is a common
misconception of pay Forward.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Yeah, that's a great question.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
There's kind of a couple misconceptions people assume about us
being a local company there assume we're a little bit smaller,
so when I tell them we're a team of seventeen,
everyone's like, oh, that's a good amount of people. So
we are growing, which is very, very exciting. And I
love that we're growing more in our service department than
we are in any other department because that's what we

(13:35):
take our name on, right. The other misconception is people
assume we just work with small businesses, which we do,
but we can also work with medium sized businesses as well,
so we kind of have the needs fit small business
mena some medium sized businesses, and of course we're growing
here in Louisville, so that's awesome nice.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
So talking about small businesses, and you know, that's kind
of where our partnership goes really good together because we
both love the smaller businesses. Everything and as a chamber
does is for the local small businesses, you know. So
and that's the same for you guys. What what in

(14:17):
particular does pay Forward do to support small businesses?

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Absolutely so our support team is amazing when it comes
to just a service business owners most of the time
get into business for their passion or for a need
that they found in market, and they don't think about
the backend admin work that goes with it when it
comes to payroll taxes or paying employees or W two
versus the ten ninety nine and why would you.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
That's not something you think about when you're going into business.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
So that's really why we're here to be an asset
to our you know, to our clients.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
That's nice. So that's kind of like walking them through
hand telling them, you know, this is why you should
do this. So let me ask, can you all help
me fill out my WT because I have.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
No absolutely.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
Yes. So that's the great part about it is that
service model that we have to make sure they feel supported,
their needs are being met.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
And just kind of educating them. Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Kentucky local taxes are interesting, especially when it comes to
you know, school districts or cities.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Cities because so many cities with the big city there
are so many Southern Indiana and then like for me,
I live in Indiana and work in Louisall. So then
you get all these taxes and then like.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
Yep, but but you all help, Yeah, we'll guy you
all through what taxes need to be.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Our tax team is phenomenal.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
They have so much experience, they know taxes like the
back of their hands.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
They are very good.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Yes, so they are able to be to look at
the address that you're working in, look at the address
you live in, and know, Okay, these are the taxes
we need or need to apply for, and we have
how to's too, and so we attempt to send those
over to our clients to be like this is how
you would apply for it, step by step.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Try to make it easy as possible to it. Again,
it's not something that's common you're starting a business. It's
not something you think of.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
No, you don't think. There's a million other things to
think of. The last thing that you're going to think
of is payroll. Unfortunately, I mean, because everybody looks forward
to payroll, even owners, right, you know, like we're in
this to make money. But like at that at the
the end of the day, like I'm not like I'm
going to start a business, let me think about payroll. Yeah,
but it's wonderful because you all do, truly, truly hold

(16:30):
hands as much as needed. You know, you're not overwhelming.
I know a lot of people don't like that, but
like at the same time, people like small businesses or
people like me, like, if I wanted to go start
a small business, it's important for you all to be
able to hold my hand and tell me how to
do stuff, because I can't even do my own.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
W two I know, And we have incredible partners. So
if you're in need of a business lawyer or CPA
or maybe HR, we have incredible partners that we work
with too here in life that are also local, that
have the same philosophy of just putting the customer first
and making sure every needs are met and kind of

(17:08):
asking those more in depth questions to make sure everything's
you know, completed as monk, because compliance is a scary word,
but it's a common word you hear in business, and
we just want to make sure that our partners and
also us working with our clients, everything's kind of all aligned.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Good to go.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
You focus on the business, we do everything else.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Love it. Love it. So talking about the small businesses,
what kind of feedback have you all received from small
businesses that use pay Forward? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Absolutely, so.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
We just got an amazing Google review from one of
our clients actually yesterday talking about how scared, like they
were worried about the implementation of payroll and that's a
common fear and kind of sometimes of frustration when you're
moving from payroll to payroll companies. Is that implementation process.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
And she was really really.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Excited and happy that that implementation process was smooth.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
We talked through any questions. We were as.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Hands on as we needed to be with them because
we just want to make sure that they were comfortable
with that transition. So we've gotten some really good feedback.
So we have about eleven Google reviews right now, all
five stars, which is amazing for our clients to leave us.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
I was just about to say I just as we
were talking, I just pulled up the Google reviews, and
I mean these are amazing. Yes, I mean, yes, it's eleven,
but I mean you all are, like I said, six
years old, like we're building stuff, Like it's like great
with assisting the fundamentals of handling payroll issues, Tammy is great,
Like always a plus with the company that you're dealing

(18:39):
with when they're family and they treat you like or
when they're friendly and they treat you like family. I
mean like I will stay with pay Forward forever. These
are amazing.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Yeah, No, they're great.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
And in the payroll world, we have about a ninety
seven percent client retention, which is absolutely astronomical when you
think about it, for any retention now exactly, So the
stats kind of speak for themselves, but we're really in
a little it for the long haul over clients. We
want to make sure that they're taking care of year
after year and everything is you know, good to go

(19:10):
with payroll, so it's not something you have to worry about,
it's stress about, and it's just kind of one less
thing that's off their plate because as a business owner,
you know, there is so many things going.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
Through your head day and day out. Payroll should not
be one of them, right.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
No, And I can tell you right now, the only
thing that's in my mind about payroll is getting paid exactly.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
People just want them to pay us and if it's good,
great and just.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Move on right exactly, No joke. Okay, So let's move
back a little bit. Is there anything else that you
want to talk about with pay forward? The thing that
you want to say because I want to talk a
little bit more about our affinity?

Speaker 3 (19:46):
Yeah, no, absolutely, I mean just if you want any information,
feel free to check out our website, check out our
LinkedIn reach out to us. We'd love to you know,
help you or you know, consult on any payroll news
that you guys have.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Okay, and it's pa fw D right ds ds. Okay,
So there's an s at the end. I keep calling
it pay forward, but we're paying it forwards. One pay
many forwards.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
Many forwards, many pay checks out of time.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Okay, alright, let's not goof off back to the Infinity partnership.
So what do you think is going to be uh
what is a benefit of being a chamber member with
this partnership? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Yeah, A lot of people think payroll is kind of
like an unnecessary evil, right, Like it's another something to
add on to a fee wise that you have to
kind of budget into. So really, you know, cash is king.
So giving our the chamber members that discount with that
twenty percent off waved infirtation fee, the two months free,

(20:53):
it's a lot of cost savings and I think payroll wise,
you know, that's a plus, especially when it comes to
payroll fee and payroll costs and knows again, some people
just assume it's it has to be done. But if
we can do it better cheaper, I think it's great.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
I mean, this is a phenomenal partnership. You guys came.
This was just wonderful. So we really appreciate you guys
doing this for our members because like we we really
truly appreciate our members and as you know, you've been
a part.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
Of them, well you know so much.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
So they really did such a good deal for you all,
for all of our members. Like seriously, two months free,
twenty percent off, and I mean you get to work
with Lily.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Whoa, it's fun. We'll make it fun always always.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
So let's see here what kind of what kind of
collaborations are you are we going to do with this partnership?
Do we have anything point? Oh, I mean I know
we're doing orientation together. Yeah, absolutely, so.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
You can check out a new member of Orientation at
the Chamber. It's a great way to learn more about
the Chamber and also about the other partnerships that they
have that are great for businesses and of course payroll.
Of course we're on this fun radio show, so that's
another way to partner together.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
Yeah, but you'll.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
Be you know, seeing more to come as we kind
of get this rolling. I think it was officially rolled
out this month, it was, Yeah, so you'll see more
to come. Social probably more marketing material coming your way,
so you on the lookout.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
All right, Well we're almost wrapping up, but I got
one more question. All right, hit me, what message would
you like to leave with chamber members and other listeners
about pay Forward Listen y'all.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
I worked at another payroll company for years, which was
a great experience, but forwards, I think it's just so
special in a sense of how they truly care about
their clients. Eric, our owner, really gets ingrained with our clients.
Whether they have questions, they need to reach out to
him directly. But there's not a lot of red tape

(23:15):
for us. So if you need to talk to our
tax people, talk to our tax people. If you need
to talk to operations, you talk to operations. It's not
hard to get in contact with the right people for
any you know, questions that you have, any issues you
might have. Because we're a small team, we stake our
name on our reputation on service. I'm being there for
our clients and I'm being a community partner. So really,

(23:36):
you know, we just want to be there for y'all.
So if you have any questions, any needs, you just
want to consult on something, you're like am I having
the right taxes.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Just let us know. We just want to be there
more to help than anything else.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Right, Well, we're about to wrap it up, but before
we do, if you have any questions other than reaching
out to Lily, you can reach out to us at
Chamber at St. Matthew's Chamber. That's Chamber at St. Matthews
Chamber dot com and then Lily.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
Yeah, our website is pay f W d S dot com.
Feel free to check us out. We're on LinkedIn, we're
on Facebook, or if you want to feel free to
email me directly. It's l McDonough mc d O n
O g H at pay f W d S dot com.

Speaker 4 (24:23):
So always you to answer questions.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Who Well, thank you so much for coming on to
our show. It's always it's great to be with you.
