Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Chamber Connection on Talk Radio ten eighty,
a program designed for small business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and
community members who are eager to learn more about the
intricacies of running a successful business, hosted each week by
the dedicated staff of the Chamber of Saint Matthews. Now
here's your host for this week, Amanda Harper, Events and
(00:23):
Program Coordinator.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Good morning everyone, Welcome to the Chamber Connection. I'm Amanda
Harper and I'll be your host today. Today we have
Roz with iHeartMedia in the studio.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Hey, right, how are you Roz?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yes, Jack, just share Roz Princes, you know, all that
whole thing.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Yeah, love it, Love that. So let's get started. Okay,
I want to know a little bit about you. How
long have you been in the media radio? Tell me
a little bit about this.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Almost thirty two years. Oh. I started when I was five,
so you know when you were five. Yeah. So I'm
a part of the forty under forty. No, I'm only teathing,
so I've been doing it in a while. Yeah, good. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
What's your favorite thing about media and radio?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
And I like helping people, just like when you and
I in Virginia met and we said, how do we
get the education out. We came up with doing a
radio show. I think it's radio is the number one
medium last to making a decision, So I think on
(01:42):
your educational piece. We're also doing some things for Katy
t on podcasting. I think audio plays a big part
in people's lives every day. I've been able to come
up with a lot of campaigns that have taken companies
to the next level. I love doing marketing. I like
coming up with campaigns. I used to be. We used
(02:04):
to be a lot more creative when we had a
lot more employees, but we could do I mean I
did a promotion where I literally had a remote. I
had forty something remote in a month wow where we
took a fat boy out when I was with the Hawk,
and I included so many people and sponsors that nobody
(02:28):
in the building could believe it. And it was such
an awesome promotion with We did it with Miller at
the time, and we actually took it out everywhere. So
I have a lot of fun memories of things that
have done. I got to meet Garth Brooks.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
That's cool.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
I want to sales contest and when he came in
ninety eight I got to go backstage with somebody else
in the in the DJs and when you were six,
right when I was six six? Yeah, this was probably seven,
maybe six or seven. But anyway, Garth was at the
door waiting on all of us, and so my DJ
(03:09):
was like, I'm sick of my stomach. I think I'm
actually gonna puke. Oh my god, what do I do?
So I went in front and I reached my hand
out and I said, Hi, Garth, damn glad you could
meet me tonight. And he fell to his knees and
started rolling. And that was so much fun. So I've
been I've been really lucky to be a part of
(03:30):
a lot of really fun things. And he sat and
talked to us for thirty minutes and Tricia came in
and I said to my coworker that day, I go,
there's something going on there, And I was.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Right predicting stuff. That's funny.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
But I really like to have the opportunity to help
someone meet their goals their business, go to the next level,
get more clients, lead generation, whatever it could be. That's
that's what I It's like, you're passionate about, right.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Yeah, So they say, don't meet your heroes. But you
had a good time with Garth right, I did good?
I did he is he's a marketing genius. Actually, yeah,
so it's amazing how these people just build their brands.
Like I was talking with somebody the other day about
Miss Swift and how she's just whether you're a Swift
(04:33):
or not, you can't deny the brand that she has
built for herself as top tier.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
The influencer influencers are big. You know, we have Tony,
we have Tony Vanetti, we have Terry Miners, we have
the White Witten, we have Nick on KRD on our
sports stations. We have a lot of endorsers that are
actually in our building and they they take brands to
(05:00):
the next level. That's awesome. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
So for the inquiring minds, what does a typical day
at iHeart Media look like?
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Well, I can just tell you that today is not
working out the way I thought it's gonna work out.
But actually I'm in sales. So it's the day in
the life of a radio station. You know, some breaking
news could happen. Working with this organization for almost twenty years,
I know that Paul Miles in our in our news department,
(05:31):
he's broken a lot of stories even before TV has
been there. So to me, you know, when I was
growing up, HAS eight point forty was the station you
listened to if you were going to be off from school,
Like seriously, that night and that morning, we were all
about the radio. It wasn't on TV at that time.
(05:53):
So I just think I have a passion for a
radio that has gone through years. And I you know,
when I left California and moved back here, I was
running a school for dyslexic children and SLD children and
that was another life in the Bay Area. So coming
back here, I started out as a business manager, which
(06:17):
was all financial, and then I got to go on
the air. So my favorite part is seeing the DJs
in the building every day, talking to them about creative
campaigns that we can do influencing wise. And the day
in the life could be what you think you have
on your calendar, could be something totally different depending on
(06:38):
all the outside things. But it's fun. It's a bit.
All of us are passionate about what we do here.
My heart reaches nine out of ten Americans every month.
That's amazing. So somebody at some point has come and
listened to our stations you know, we have eights here.
(07:00):
We have two networks. Honestly, we cover the state with
kN N. So we have so many brands just in
this building alone, and the products are amazing. So you
could be working on a digital campaign where you could
be out meeting with a client that is out of
(07:21):
town and taking them somewhere to show them and give
them ideas and brainstorm. The day in the life is
different for everybody in the building, but it's exciting every day,
something new every day. iHeart is a very innovative company,
and so I think that's why I'm drawn here because
(07:47):
they are so We've always been ahead of the curve,
but with podcasting, with all of that, we've been ahead
of the head of the curve. But we just have
so much. We have so much to help a small
to medium business to a large business. I can help
(08:08):
you one day and ufl hospital the next, you know.
So I think that's the exciting part about it, and
really getting involved with a client to see what their
goals are and making it happen. And when you have
that win and it's totally worked, like I'll give Good
(08:29):
Bounce Pickleball Yard a shout out. We are partnering with them,
and he's every time I see him at a networking event,
he goes ross. You guys have helped us so much.
So that is that's the excitement, and that's why we
do it. And no day is ever alike, but that's
(08:50):
what you hope happens every day.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Right. Are we sure that iHeartMedia isn't a chamber because
it sounds it sounds very.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Familiar, you know, just always helping people.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Well and really all the things we do in the
community and the nonprofits that we help, like Saint Jude.
You know, if you're driving to work during the Saint
Jude telethon, you will be crying by the time you
get to work. Yeah, So and have a quick story
(09:23):
if we have time, go for it. LG. Dupri who
passed away years ago, but he did he did radio
telethons for like ten or fifteen years and his nephew
came down with the brain tumor and it was very
(09:45):
rare and it didn't look like he was going to live.
So they said, oh, we can't do that. You can
go up to Cincinnati's hospital. And so LG got on
the phone with our partners and said, hey, I've done
fifteen years of you know, telethones for you guys, and
they sent a helicopter picked him up and he's living today.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Oh my gosh, how beautiful is that.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
I'm gonna cry, I know, and it's been years ago.
But that's the beauty of what we do in audio.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Right, you know, definitely always like making connections, touching people's lives,
making it easier for businesses to you know, gain attraction
and stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
It's it's really rewarding. And I didn't see why you
love it.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Yeah, So in a way, it's a big chamber of
eight hundred and sixty eight stations across the nation, across
the US, and.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
It's a chamber that everybody knows about.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Everybody knows your name, like Norm exact exactly.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
You said nine out of ten people earlier know about
iheartmedi and I'm like, I don't.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
I feel like.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
That's that's it might be ten outs. Let's just say
ten outsody.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
The world knows about iHeartMedia.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Right right, And you know, we have the top we
have the top talent, and like I said before, we're innovative,
so we'd like to come up with solutions for our
clients that make things easier for them and help them
do what they need to do to get their business going.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
All right, Well, on that note, we will be right
back with more from Roz with iHeartMedia on Talk Radio
ten eighty.
Speaker 5 (11:39):

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Where Louisville comes to Talk Talk Radio ten eighty.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Welcome back, everybody.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
We are still here in the studio with Roz from iHeartMedia.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Roz not to be confused with Schaer.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Yeah, I don't think you can confuse me.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Well, I wanted to talk a little bit.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Roz is one of our biggest fans as far as
like the Chamber goes. Every time you know, she gets
a chance, she is always hyping us up to everybody,
and I want to kind of pick her brain a
little bit and see how the Chamber has benefited her
and everything like that. So Roz, tell me a little
bit about what you love about at the Chamber.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Well, I love all you guys, Oh yeah, but I
love the events. And you know, I was very involved
for six years when I was with Higher before when
I left in twenty fifteen, I was doing jobs where
I was not able to really participate, even though I
made sure our companies were part of the Chamber, I
would send a salesperson. So I really missed the Chamber.
(13:25):
And I think for somebody to grow leaps and bounds
like you guys did and make it innovative during COVID,
I think you need an award for that. Really. I
think the favorite event is the annual dinner when we
all come dressed up as whatever the theme is. It
just kind of takes everybody down to the same level,
(13:46):
no matter what level of employee is there. If it's
a CEO, if it's a CFO, you know, everybody's on
the same playing field. I like the networking events. I've
gotten business from the chamber, and I know other people have.
I probably should have added it up before I came
(14:08):
on the show, but I mean financially, it's been beneficial
for me. And I recommend you guys to everybody, as
you know, because the one thing that the Saint Matthew's
Chamber has and for all you listening out there, healthcare
is everybody's one illness away from being broke right. And
(14:34):
I know someone who I've worked with for a long
time is in between jobs and is not taking insurance
on himself because can't afford the Cobra payments. Okay, And
what you guys do, and I didn't even know this,
that everybody in the state can participate in your health plan.
(14:56):
I think Billy at the Benefits Firm is amazing to
come up with this idea. And I think that's the
beauty of this chamber is that you take a need
from the people that are part of your organization and say, okay,
we can help you. Know, couples get insurance where you can't,
(15:17):
and it's the same type of insurance that I'm on.
And my husband works at UFL University, so and we
have five hundred dollars deductible. We pay next to nothing.
And I don't know, I think that's a gift that
you guys have that somebody that has two employees or
more can come and join the chamber, make relationships and
(15:41):
have coverage. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Absolutely, health insurance is definitely expensive these days. Yeah, and
the one that we offer is just it's very comparable
to like a lot of these big name companies that
have you said, like forward to have the reputation for
having great health insurance U of L. You know, we're
(16:03):
definitely in playing the same ball field with them, you know.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
So.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
And I remember being at the annual meeting, what was
it a couple of years ago, and Human announced they
were no longer going to be in the I don't
even know what you call it, the residential you know,
the regular people. They were just going to do medicare.
I'm lost for words right now, but they were not
going to participate in that after five years. And that
was a big deal. I know a lot of people
(16:30):
got laid off. And somebody at the chamber at my
table was saying, this was just announced at like five
o'clock tonight, Oh wow, And anyway, So they were immediately
coming up with things at the annual dinner to talk
to their clients about. And that was news that we
(16:51):
got there. And you guys already had this in operation
for how many years has this been going on? Like ten?
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Ten, ten plus?
Speaker 2 (17:00):
I mean maybe maybe like around twelve ish and around there.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
So to join the chamber and have the benefits of
all the networking events for your company and to have
the availability to have a Ford or uf L like
healthcare program, that's amazing.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, I would agree, I would agree completely. I that's
probably one of our biggest things, you know, Like we
are very fairly priced for a membership for all that
you get, you know. So we have over three hundred
and fifty events, programs groups a year, you know, I mean,
and we are busting it in there, you know. And
(17:41):
so to be able to be a part of that
and to have access to the health insurance plan that
we have, it's just amazing for the costs that it
is to invest into the membership.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
And the think tank and the leads groups, the networking
at five oh five, the lunch, the lunch networking inspire
Inspire that our heart media is the title sponsor of
I got to tell you, I was in tears on Tuesday.
I thought I thought Jill was just amazing and her
(18:17):
energy and the dance party. I think all of us
needed a dance party, and even the guys did it.
So I think that our chamber is pretty special in
the sense that and I call it my chamber, like
I'm an employee with you. But I think our chamber
gives the most value for the money and is very
(18:39):
innovative and coming up with things, just like we brainstormed
this and came up with a radio show that could
be downloaded by somebody in Paduca could call you tomorrow
and say, hey, we want to be a member of
the Chamber. I don't know if you want to explain
how that works, because I didn't know that we went
outside Saint Matthew's.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Say so with our with our chamber, you don't have
to be a Saint Matthew's resident business anything like that.
It we spread over what is it like three hundred
zip codes? We have over three hundred zip codes that
we take care of in India, in Southern Indiana and Kentucky.
I mean, we have people out in Pikeville. We have
(19:19):
people that are like towards like Murray and you know,
all these places, and some of them are for the
insurance program because a lot of you know, a lot
of those smaller mom and pop businesses out there, they
can't afford the insurance like the bigger companies can, like
U of L and you know, stuff like that. So
it's it's beneficial for them to join our chamber because
they get that for their employees. And you know, I
(19:42):
don't know about you, but having health insurance is a
very important part of me having a job, right you know,
so like if I'm not going to have a job,
or if I'm going to have a job and no
health care and no health care, there's an issue there,
you know. So I think that it's it's it helps
the community. And when I say community, I mean the
Chamber of Saint Matthew's community, which reaches those three hundred
(20:05):
zip codes. I think that that really helps the community
find people for their jobs. You know, that helps with
job replacements and stuff like that. You know, we're all
we're all talking about, you know, how everybody's trying to
throw around the the our word, you know, the recession
(20:26):
and stuff like that. This is putting people in in
predicaments where they can have health insurance for their employees.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
That creates more jobs.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
And better than what you're going to get on the exchange.
I don't know how to tell you guys call the
Chamber now, because because the benefits that I have at
U of L are the same benefits they have. We've
compared them, and I just think that's innovative and amazing
that you offer that because so many people are in
need of that and are small Dimitian sized businesses. That's
(21:02):
a big line on a budget for them. Yeah, And
I think what you guys do is you take that
worry from a smaller business and say, okay, if we
just pay the membership fee and you can go network,
you can also have benefits, right absolutely.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
So other than that, how do you think that the
Chamber of Saint Matthew's helps small businesses?
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Oh, you guys are the best. We got the business
Expo coming out next Wednesday twelve to four. So I
I mean those are the types of things that you
guys offer and you can give. And you also have
a very good guest program where you can bring someone
and I know that you guys have referred people to
(21:46):
call me that we're on the bubble about joining maybe
this chamber versus that chamber, and to have pretty close
to eighteen hundred members. Yeah, I don't know how far
away we are, but I just have to tell you.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
About fifty five. We're fifty five away from eighteen hundred.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
That in itself is I know, it's such growth.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
It speaks volumes.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
You know.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Since I've been with the chamber and it's been almost
a year now, I mean, the growth that we've had
just in this year has been phenomenal. You know, you're
making relationships, you're building connections, you are closing business, and
that's what we.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Are here for, you know. And you took those things
during twenty twenty and made them virtual and still had
them so that your members had a value on their
membership for that year. So I honestly think it's the
best deal for the money. And you guys do so
(22:46):
much in the community, and Saint Matthew's is one of
the biggest communities. I mean, all the hospitals are there, and.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
You know, like like I said earlier, when we talk
about community, we're not talking about Saint Matthew's, I know,
you know, we are talking about the members of Saint
Matthew's Chamber.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Yeah, you know so, I mean we definitely.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
We've had a ribbon cutting yesterday off of in downtown Louisville,
you know. So we're servicing all of these places and
we love it.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
You know.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Please reach out.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
To us if you want a ribbon cutting, if you
want to join the chamber, if you want to come
and visit our events, come and hang out.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
With me and Roz because we are the party girl.
Just Ross.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Yeah, all right, Roll, I wanted to thank you so
much for being our guests today.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Oh, thank you for having me.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
It's always a great time with you, and I'm looking
