Browns and the Guardians. But the Browns finally got wise.
We'll get to the Browns in the minute. But they
finally got wise and lifted the curse of Rafa. We've

been talking about this when Rafa is the Spanish voice
of the Browns go to the playoffs. It's very simple, right,
It's very simple. Why haven't the Browns been able to
figure this out? I thought they were like Harvard dudes.

I don't know why, but he's working. Either way, it's working.

But we're on victory Thursday because on Wednesday night, the
first of two games with the Wizards, the kids just
boat raced Washington last night.

And there's so many ways you can look at that.

I looked at it as a lesson learned, you know,
because when Portland came to town. You know, on paper,
sometimes it's born to look at things. You know, on paper,
we are a better team than the Wizards and Portland
and where you want to look at it, talent, white,
health wise, whatever you want to look at it. And

I think JB was really good at drilling it in
the morning, shoot around about how we're facing a group
of professional guys who have pride, who are going to
come out and and and try to win. And obviously
and you know, the Wizards are the Wizards. They like
to run the ball all the way or the other
end without normal caring what happened. And and for the

Calves to you know, to me, it's always in that
type of game, the key is always like taking the
any hope, putting it away, putting the game away as
early as you can, just to just to kind of
like getting to start thinking and warming up the balls
and getting out right right. And they did that in
the second quarter and obviously in the third quarter. You know,
career seas on high in points for the Calves, and

assists in rebounds, tie season high in offensive rebound and
and just all over the place. You know, Max trus
had a good shooting night, and it was always it's
always great to see when when the ball bounces the
right way.

Yeah, the assist numbers are what's most pleasing to be
about this recent run, and just that it shows that
the team is playing. You know, JB always says we
want to be the most unselfish team on the floor,
and they are, and the balls moving and they're a
more dangerous team when you don't know where it's coming from.
And you mentioned earlier about how it's always a different
season high. Somebody is always doing something, you know, Sam

Merrill or whether it's Keras or whether where the Wolverine Wolverine.

But you know, we've been talking about it.

We finally have that Cavaliers basketball, that culture that the
JB and Kobe Oldman had been able to install here.
And and it's all about winning as a group. Like
we are really not a one on one.

We have players that are good at it, but we
are much better when when when the best guy, when
the best shot is taken. So that's what the assists
come into play. But I think it's also just a
matter of the guys understanding that when when Garland and
Moolei when went down, kind of like a switch went on.
We got to get back to the basics here. And
and I love to see There's two things that I

didn't like about last night. We were winning by so
much that the Frog couldn't get his triple double because
he's been sharing the ball and grabbing rebounds. He had
a triple double alone in the third quarter, eleven points
and ten rebound just in the third quarter. Jared, Yeah, Yeah,
he's been incredibly good, you know, with the rebounds and
sharing the ball, and I think he likes that style,

kind of back to like what he likes to do,
kind of like be the doesn't mean that the ball
starts inside for him, but the offense runs through I
think with his picks and his roles and everything else.

there this whole thing has taken off. So if you

want to say, Jared has been the key all this
this recent renaissance.

some bittersweet news.

Ricky Rubio makes it official. He and the Calves agree
to go buy out, and the Ricky Rubio era brief.
Though it was Ricky, we hardly knew ye is over
with the Kevliers. He posted a really great message and
I have some feelings about Ricky leaving it. It's tough.

This is really tough, but it is a change. It
changed us. He absolutely like you could point to a
lot of things. You could point to drafting, Evan Mobiley,
you can point to the big lineup. There are a
lot of things that that changed we. But to me,
Ricky Rubio was the number one reason that the Cavaliers
made that turn around.

The way the Caves have been doing is never It's

traded to the Calves, he was thinking of asking for

ladies go first. I always think of my mom being

So yeah, So they walked in front, they walked in
front of me, We walked, we walked up the stairs,
came out of the gym, started walking on the street,
and like in the cartoons, man, the three of them
in front of me just like took a step forward

like Jordan pulled in against against the heart last night.

And I was able to keep my ballot, but the thrill.

I helped one of the girls up and I could
tell she was hurting from from or embarrassed, no more
hurting than embarrassed. You left him the eyes from the back,

And then driving to be careful man, everybody keep driving

it's really like as a Browns fan, as a lifelong

The moment that that pregame show started, they had. They
had a wide out show with lights. Everybody had to

sing their phones and the fans all did it. And
then you know, the difference got introduced and Miles was
the last guy to come out, and then the guitars
match was Nick Chobb and he threw the goggles away
and put on a Batman mask. I said it on
there as there's no way the Browns are losing this game.
There's absolutely no way. And then Joe Flacco comes in

and he looks like like a reborn dude. This is
a guy who he was. He was always good. He
was he was always he was always a manager of
the game.

But once again he's playing with a super Bowl caliber defense.

and when you have that type of defense and you

always worried about the next shoe dropping, But they always worry, right,
but for sure, But doesn't it feel like almost that
story is being written for Flacco and the Ravens, Yeah,

story is going that way. And as far as the
Brown's going the a f C, the Ravens are the
best team in the They're the class in the NFL.
But there's no other AFC team that if I'm the Browns,
I'm really afraid of.

Uh, Craig, I want to ask you a few things,
you know what I want to ask just to start with,
how did you end up with the Calves? Take us
right through from so you didn't get drafted, what's the
next thing that happens?
Speaker 1 (23:51):
What? What what progresses to get you as a member
of the Cavaliers.
Speaker 12 (23:54):
So my process was, you know, on the draft night,
I mean I had a couple of little things I
thought could happen. I mean, it was possible that I
could have got drafted later, probably in the fifties, but
I kind of knew after the draft I was gonna
get that call, probably to sign like a two way
or exhibiting or something like that.
Speaker 8 (24:11):
So I was already waiting on that and I was talking.
Speaker 12 (24:14):
With Kobe and a lot of the CAVS members just
all through the whole process. So after the draft ended,
it was probably like one am. It was the longest
side stayed up in the last two days. And I
mean he just called me and called my agent and
we just talked and he just introduced me to the
calves and everything, and I mean it was just the
biggest thing that had happened to me up until that point.

And I mean it was just a dream come true.
Even though I wasn't where I wanted to be, I was.
I got my foot in the door and that's really
all I needed.

So right, And they always talk about when guys get drafted,
you know, a lot depends on the situation of where
they get drafted into. And it seems like you really
got brought into the perfect situation. And again we talked
in segment one about Ricky getting the buy out, but
now you're in really a perfect situation where you can
you have an opportunity to really make some noise.

Yeah, I mean it's it's like you said, it's literally
been the perfect situation since I got here. I mean,
it's unfortunate that guys you know, go down with injuries
and things like that, but I mean, it's it's part
of the game, and that's just one of the reasons
why I've been able to do most of the things
I've done to this point.

So guys got down on injuries. And then last night
again Washington was really an example of when when west
Anzol throw in the bench, we had nobody else to
play because everybody else that is is capable of playing well,
and they mean just have played already.

But in your case, man, you know you're capable, You
know your game, you had an amazing two years at
Wichita State. What was the mindset coming in because I know,
you know, most most of the time rookies come into
the game and they just want to make an impact,
and I know you want to make sure the coach
is kind of giving that problem of playing you. But

I have always on my broadcast talked about how you
you look for minute one like you belong in the
court and you were never like coming out of your
shoes in order to make an impact, and you have
made a huge impact. So what was the mindset when
you got the first you know, the first time you
bet looked down that way, Isaac.

The first time, I was definitely nervous.
Speaker 12 (26:15):
I mean I think my first few plays I kind
of messed up a little bit. It was it was
some minor stuff, and I just kept looking back at
the bench just to see if he's back down.

Yeah, so I was nervous.
Speaker 12 (26:25):
But uh, I mean after like those first few mess ups,
he just pulled me to the side and just told
me like, hey, we brought you here for a reason.
Speaker 8 (26:31):
We know you can play. I mean, just go out
there and play.
Speaker 12 (26:34):
And I mean ever since then, I just I just
realized he knew and that I was pretty good.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
I mean obviously he believed in me.
Speaker 12 (26:40):
So uh, I mean just that having that confidence from
him just I mean played a lot to me because
playing five years in college, I mean I've really seen
just about everything you could see, I mean even at
the JUCO level. So I mean this it just prepared
me for this and I just try to take it
as cool as I can.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
And you just made a good point, and you brought
brew up a good point of five years in college.
You think that that has work to your advantage hugely
here because you I mean, like you said, you've seen
almost everything, but you got to play for four years,
five years in college instead of just coming into the
NBA after two years, I'm basically just sitting and watching basketball.

Oh yeah, definitely.
Speaker 12 (27:13):
I mean because even when I was in the JUCO level,
I mean I had to learn to play a certain role,
so like even through all of my years, it's always
been different, and really up until my senior year, just
this past year, I didn't really get to do like
everything I wanted to do on the court. So I
mean it really kind of just prepared me because I
knew coming into the NBA, I wasn't going to be
the Donovan.

Mitchells or the Dary Scarland.
Speaker 12 (27:34):
So I know I was going to have to figure
out a couple of good things that I could do
to help a team win. And I mean it's been
happening like that since I've picked up a ball, and
it's just it just helped me preparefect.

Although the other night I saw a little Dono a
Mitchell move coming out and I saw You're looking down
at the bench when you did that little I don't
even know what took, like.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
A little hook that swooped. Yeah, I always see him
do that. Now, I was just like, you knew it, right.

Has the NBA has the NBA world been everything you imagined?
Or has anything kind of caught you by a surprise
or is this kind of what you thought it'd be.

Uh, it's definitely more surprising. I'd say, probably just the
amount of time you have to just do. I mean,
it's just free time, honestly, even though it's not. I mean,
you could be working on really anything you want. But uh,
it's a lot different.

You don't have to worry about classes or anything like
that at your job.

So you really go to class though when you collage.

but I went for the most part. But I mean,
it's it's definitely different. I mean, you got so much
free time and stuff, and uh, I mean I'm just
still trying to figure out everything I need to do
in all that time.

But I mean it's seeing all these guys.

You you play them with them on the video games,
and you see these guys you idolize, and now you're
with them.

It's it's just such a big change. But I mean,
I feel like I've handled it pretty well.

I also had to say that it was really good that.
I mean, you know, it will be nice for the
Charge fans to get to see you, but you haven't

things that he just still needs to learn and just
figure out. But to be in the position he's in

changed in terms of the mindset, in terms of the
style and going back to the Cavalier type of basketball.

We understand, especially with what the coaches are telling us,
like we don't have all our full power with everybody
like Evan DG being out tie and everybody like that.
And so we realized we got to play more team
oriented basketball. All the stuff we used to do, it's
probably not gonna work right now. So I mean it's
just really just hitting that open man, just not getting
tired of making the easy plays. And I mean yesterday

was a good example of that team, or the seasoned
high and assist. I mean, you got guys just shooting
the ball just so well. I mean, and we got
so many pieces around this team to where you can
be unselfish enough and you'll still get your own And
I feel like guys are starting to understand that. And
it's I mean, the players just going to another level
right now.

challenge to make it out there. I mean even from

is different in Europe, so you need to bring your adapters.

finally got wise and lifted the curse of Rafa. We've

been talking about this when Rafa is the Spanish voice
of the Browns go to the playoffs. It's very simple, right,
It's very simple. Why haven't the Browns been able to
figure this out? I thought they were like Harvard dudes.

But we're on victory Thursday because on Wednesday night, the
first of two games with the Wizards, the kids just
boat raced Washington last night.

I looked at it as a lesson learned, you know,
because when Portland came to town. You know, on paper,
sometimes it's born to look at things. You know, on paper,
we are a better team than the Wizards and Portland
and where you want to look at it, talent, white,
health wise, whatever you want to look at it. And

I think JB was really good at drilling it in
the morning, shoot around about how we're facing a group
of professional guys who have pride, who are going to
come out and and and try to win. And obviously
and you know, the Wizards are the Wizards. They like
to run the ball all the way or the other
end without normal caring what happened. And and for the

Calves to you know, to me, it's always in that
type of game, the key is always like taking the
any hope, putting it away, putting the game away as
early as you can, just to just to kind of
like getting to start thinking and warming up the balls
and getting out right right. And they did that in
the second quarter and obviously in the third quarter. You know,
career seas on high in points for the Calves, and

assists in rebounds, tie season high in offensive rebound and
and just all over the place. You know, Max trus
had a good shooting night, and it was always it's
always great to see when when the ball bounces the
right way.

Yeah, the assist numbers are what's most pleasing to be
about this recent run, and just that it shows that
the team is playing. You know, JB always says we
want to be the most unselfish team on the floor,
and they are, and the balls moving and they're a
more dangerous team when you don't know where it's coming from.
And you mentioned earlier about how it's always a different
season high. Somebody is always doing something, you know, Sam

Merrill or whether it's Keras or whether where the Wolverine Wolverine.

But you know, we've been talking about it.

We finally have that Cavaliers basketball, that culture that the
JB and Kobe Oldman had been able to install here.
And and it's all about winning as a group. Like
we are really not a one on one.

We have players that are good at it, but we
are much better when when when the best guy, when
the best shot is taken. So that's what the assists
come into play. But I think it's also just a
matter of the guys understanding that when when Garland and
Moolei when went down, kind of like a switch went on.
We got to get back to the basics here. And
and I love to see There's two things that I

didn't like about last night. We were winning by so
much that the Frog couldn't get his triple double because
he's been sharing the ball and grabbing rebounds. He had
a triple double alone in the third quarter, eleven points
and ten rebound just in the third quarter. Jared, Yeah, Yeah,
he's been incredibly good, you know, with the rebounds and
sharing the ball, and I think he likes that style,

kind of back to like what he likes to do,
kind of like be the doesn't mean that the ball
starts inside for him, but the offense runs through I
think with his picks and his roles and everything else.

this recent renaissance.

some bittersweet news.

Ricky Rubio makes it official. He and the Calves agree
to go buy out, and the Ricky Rubio era brief.
Though it was Ricky, we hardly knew ye is over
with the Kevliers. He posted a really great message and
I have some feelings about Ricky leaving it. It's tough.

This is really tough, but it is a change. It
changed us. He absolutely like you could point to a
lot of things. You could point to drafting, Evan Mobiley,
you can point to the big lineup. There are a
lot of things that that changed we. But to me,
Ricky Rubio was the number one reason that the Cavaliers
made that turn around.

and he looks like like a reborn dude. This is
a guy who he was. He was always good. He

Uh, Craig, I want to ask you a few things,
you know what I want to ask just to start with,
how did you end up with the Calves? Take us
right through from so you didn't get drafted, what's the
next thing that happens?
Speaker 1 (23:51):
What? What what progresses to get you as a member
of the Cavaliers.
Speaker 12 (23:54):
So my process was, you know, on the draft night,
I mean I had a couple of little things I
thought could happen. I mean, it was possible that I
could have got drafted later, probably in the fifties, but
I kind of knew after the draft I was gonna
get that call, probably to sign like a two way
or exhibiting or something like that.
Speaker 8 (24:11):
So I was already waiting on that and I was talking.
Speaker 12 (24:14):
With Kobe and a lot of the CAVS members just
all through the whole process. So after the draft ended,
it was probably like one am. It was the longest
side stayed up in the last two days. And I
mean he just called me and called my agent and
we just talked and he just introduced me to the
calves and everything, and I mean it was just the
biggest thing that had happened to me up until that point.
(24:34):
And I mean it was just a dream come true.
Even though I wasn't where I wanted to be, I was.
I got my foot in the door and that's really
all I needed.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
So right, And they always talk about when guys get drafted,
you know, a lot depends on the situation of where
they get drafted into. And it seems like you really
got brought into the perfect situation. And again we talked
in segment one about Ricky getting the buy out, but
now you're in really a perfect situation where you can
you have an opportunity to really make some noise.
Speaker 12 (25:03):
Yeah, I mean it's it's like you said, it's literally
been the perfect situation since I got here. I mean,
it's unfortunate that guys you know, go down with injuries
and things like that, but I mean, it's it's part
of the game, and that's just one of the reasons
why I've been able to do most of the things
I've done to this point.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
So guys got down on injuries. And then last night
again Washington was really an example of when when west
Anzol throw in the bench, we had nobody else to
play because everybody else that is is capable of playing well,
and they mean just have played already.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
So that's why we said it.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
But in your case, man, you know you're capable, You
know your game, you had an amazing two years at
Wichita State. What was the mindset coming in because I know,
you know, most most of the time rookies come into
the game and they just want to make an impact,
and I know you want to make sure the coach
is kind of giving that problem of playing you. But
(25:53):
I have always on my broadcast talked about how you
you look for minute one like you belong in the
court and you were never like coming out of your
shoes in order to make an impact, and you have
made a huge impact. So what was the mindset when
you got the first you know, the first time you
bet looked down that way, Isaac.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
You know, Craig.
Speaker 12 (26:13):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (26:13):
The first time, I was definitely nervous.
Speaker 12 (26:15):
I mean I think my first few plays I kind
of messed up a little bit. It was it was
some minor stuff, and I just kept looking back at
the bench just to see if he's back down.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
Yeah, so I was nervous.
Speaker 12 (26:25):
But uh, I mean after like those first few mess ups,
he just pulled me to the side and just told
me like, hey, we brought you here for a reason.
Speaker 8 (26:31):
We know you can play. I mean, just go out
there and play.
Speaker 12 (26:34):
And I mean ever since then, I just I just
realized he knew and that I was pretty good.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
I mean obviously he believed in me.
Speaker 12 (26:40):
So uh, I mean just that having that confidence from
him just I mean played a lot to me because
playing five years in college, I mean I've really seen
just about everything you could see, I mean even at
the JUCO level. So I mean this it just prepared
me for this and I just try to take it
as cool as I can.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
And you just made a good point, and you brought
brew up a good point of five years in college.
You think that that has work to your advantage hugely
here because you I mean, like you said, you've seen
almost everything, but you got to play for four years,
five years in college instead of just coming into the
NBA after two years, I'm basically just sitting and watching basketball.
Speaker 8 (27:13):
Oh yeah, definitely.
Speaker 12 (27:13):
I mean because even when I was in the JUCO level,
I mean I had to learn to play a certain role,
so like even through all of my years, it's always
been different, and really up until my senior year, just
this past year, I didn't really get to do like
everything I wanted to do on the court. So I
mean it really kind of just prepared me because I
knew coming into the NBA, I wasn't going to be
the Donovan.
Speaker 8 (27:32):
Mitchells or the Dary Scarland.
Speaker 12 (27:34):
So I know I was going to have to figure
out a couple of good things that I could do
to help a team win. And I mean it's been
happening like that since I've picked up a ball, and
it's just it just helped me preparefect.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Although the other night I saw a little Dono a
Mitchell move coming out and I saw You're looking down
at the bench when you did that little I don't
even know what took, like.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
A little hook that swooped. Yeah, I always see him
do that. Now, I was just like, you knew it, right.

Has the NBA has the NBA world been everything you imagined?
Or has anything kind of caught you by a surprise
or is this kind of what you thought it'd be.
Speaker 12 (28:08):
Uh, it's definitely more surprising. I'd say, probably just the
amount of time you have to just do. I mean,
it's just free time, honestly, even though it's not. I mean,
you could be working on really anything you want. But uh,
it's a lot different.

You don't have to worry about classes or anything like
that at your job.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
So you really go to class though when you collage.

Yeah, class, I don't know a little bit.

Some days I'm filled some six days, but you know,
but I went for the most part. But I mean,
it's it's definitely different. I mean, you got so much
free time and stuff, and uh, I mean I'm just
still trying to figure out everything I need to do
in all that time.

But I mean it's seeing all these guys.
Speaker 12 (28:45):
You you play them with them on the video games,
and you see these guys you idolize, and now you're
with them.
Speaker 8 (28:50):
It's it's just such a big change. But I mean,
I feel like I've handled it pretty well.

I also had to say that it was really good that.
I mean, you know, it will be nice for the
Charge fans to get to see you, but you haven't
played with the Charge.

I mean, it's it's just a blessing to be with him.

I mean, and I always forget, like because we came
in here together and like so we was just the
whole training camp and the whole leading up to everything
leading up to the Summer League. We was just together,
even like the hotel we were staying out, like we
just hung out and connected right away. And sometimes I
forget he's almost four years five.

Years younger than me.

Yeah, he's a teenager still so but he's I feel
like he's a lot more mature than his age, just
being held to the standard he's held to since he
was like fourteenth.

Been through a lot too. And uh, I mean he's
he's just a phenomenal kid. I mean, he's always willing
to learn. Obviously he wants to be able to play now,
but I mean he's he understands the position he's in
and given everything that's around this team, like we're pretty deep,
especially at his position, So like there's a lot of
things that he just still needs to learn and just
figure out. But to be in the position he's in

and to be the talent he has, I mean, it's
it's scary, and it's the fact that we got him
at the pick week. I am is that's the craziest
thing to me.

clicked with this team, especially in terms of like sharing
the ball and every every night everybody seems to have
like a career night or a season high. The other
night was the team? Why season high? What has really
changed in terms of the mindset, in terms of the
style and going back to the Cavalier type of basketball.
Speaker 12 (31:59):
We understand, especially with what the coaches are telling us,
like we don't have all our full power with everybody
like Evan DG being out tie and everybody like that.
And so we realized we got to play more team
oriented basketball. All the stuff we used to do, it's
probably not gonna work right now. So I mean it's
just really just hitting that open man, just not getting
tired of making the easy plays. And I mean yesterday
(32:22):
was a good example of that team, or the seasoned
high and assist. I mean, you got guys just shooting
the ball just so well. I mean, and we got
so many pieces around this team to where you can
be unselfish enough and you'll still get your own And
I feel like guys are starting to understand that. And
it's I mean, the players just going to another level
right now.

earlier about the Paris trip.

The question I had was the league at the time
gave us all kinds of primers and we had a
like an all team kind of meeting for everybody that
was going to travel. Has the NBA or anyone giving

The Calves have done a really wonderful job.

I mean, these guys obviously have their own department and
they have a lot of other things to worry about,
but we have over two hundred people going in terms
of clients, in terms of you know, because it's a
home game for the Calves, so our entertainment group is
going and the mascots are going that yeah.

Everybody, you're kidding me, Yeah, the stand crews.

It's a home game.

So they've done a really good job getting everybody to
getting everybody together, and you know, because like Trump say,
it's the first time going going you know, overseas, and
there's a lot of people that you know, it's a
challenge to make it out there. I mean even from
the single thing, the single item of like the electricity
is different in Europe, so you need to bring your adapters.

What's crazy is that this is a regular season game. Yea,
the Brazils pre season and all the times pre season.
So that's the first regular season game, so it would
be interesting.
