Speaker 4 (01:29):
A will and a boil.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Ya Hey everybody, and welcome to uh what are we
Victory Thursday? We're on Victory Thursday month or two weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Victory month, but we're coming off.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Was that the camv's biggest Uh, I am first of all,
I am Joji ceeded to my front and the opposite
of me is still Rafa Ernandez. But he got some
Spanish boys of the Cavaliers and the brown and the
Browns and the Guardians. But the Browns finally got wise.
We'll get to the Browns in the minute. But they
finally got wise and lifted the curse of Rafa. We've
(02:04):
been talking about this when Rafa is the Spanish voice
of the Browns go to the playoffs. It's very simple, right,
It's very simple. Why haven't the Browns been able to
figure this out? I thought they were like Harvard dudes.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
I don't know why, but he's working. Either way, it's working.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
But we're on victory Thursday because on Wednesday night, the
first of two games with the Wizards, the kids just
boat raced Washington last night.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
And there's so many ways you can look at that.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
I looked at it as a lesson learned, you know,
because when Portland came to town. You know, on paper,
sometimes it's born to look at things. You know, on paper,
we are a better team than the Wizards and Portland
and where you want to look at it, talent, white,
health wise, whatever you want to look at it. And
(02:50):
I think JB was really good at drilling it in
the morning, shoot around about how we're facing a group
of professional guys who have pride, who are going to
come out and and and try to win. And obviously
and you know, the Wizards are the Wizards. They like
to run the ball all the way or the other
end without normal caring what happened. And and for the
(03:11):
Calves to you know, to me, it's always in that
type of game, the key is always like taking the
any hope, putting it away, putting the game away as
early as you can, just to just to kind of
like getting to start thinking and warming up the balls
and getting out right right. And they did that in
the second quarter and obviously in the third quarter. You know,
career seas on high in points for the Calves, and
(03:34):
assists in rebounds, tie season high in offensive rebound and
and just all over the place. You know, Max trus
had a good shooting night, and it was always it's
always great to see when when the ball bounces the
right way.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Yeah, the assist numbers are what's most pleasing to be
about this recent run, and just that it shows that
the team is playing. You know, JB always says we
want to be the most unselfish team on the floor,
and they are, and the balls moving and they're a
more dangerous team when you don't know where it's coming from.
And you mentioned earlier about how it's always a different
season high. Somebody is always doing something, you know, Sam
(04:10):
Merrill or whether it's Keras or whether where the Wolverine Wolverine.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
But you know, we've been talking about it.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
We finally have that Cavaliers basketball, that culture that the
JB and Kobe Oldman had been able to install here.
And and it's all about winning as a group. Like
we are really not a one on one.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Type of team.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
We have players that are good at it, but we
are much better when when when the best guy, when
the best shot is taken. So that's what the assists
come into play. But I think it's also just a
matter of the guys understanding that when when Garland and
Moolei when went down, kind of like a switch went on.
We got to get back to the basics here. And
and I love to see There's two things that I
(04:59):
didn't like about last night. We were winning by so
much that the Frog couldn't get his triple double because
he's been sharing the ball and grabbing rebounds. He had
a triple double alone in the third quarter, eleven points
and ten rebound just in the third quarter. Jared, Yeah, Yeah,
he's been incredibly good, you know, with the rebounds and
sharing the ball, and I think he likes that style,
(05:21):
kind of back to like what he likes to do,
kind of like be the doesn't mean that the ball
starts inside for him, but the offense runs through I
think with his picks and his roles and everything else.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Six at least six assists in I think five of
his last games. Yeah, I mean, he's been just so
so good. And it's funny you talk about that recent run. Now,
you and I we were on the flight home from
Boston after the road trip and theme things seemed so bleak.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
They really did.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
After that road trip, things seem so man, you know
how they're going to turn this around. And right after,
you know, that Atlanta game, Jared had that big first
quarter and you know, Jared came off with a bad
road trip, he had a poor road trip, and he
had that big first quarter again Atlanta, and right from
there this whole thing has taken off. So if you
(06:16):
want to say, Jared has been the key all this
this recent renaissance.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
About the screen that he said for it, right, Donovan Mitchell.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yeah, Yeah, so Jared I think is kind of the key.
You talk about Calves basketball, we have to talk about
some bittersweet news.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Bittersweet is the way you put it. I said say
it before we got on the air, but you said bittersweet.
This is true.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Ricky Rubio makes it official. He and the Calves agree
to go buy out, and the Ricky Rubio era brief.
Though it was Ricky, we hardly knew ye is over
with the Kevliers. He posted a really great message and
I have some feelings about Ricky leaving it. It's tough.
(07:00):
This is really tough, but it is a change. It
changed us. He absolutely like you could point to a
lot of things. You could point to drafting, Evan Mobiley,
you can point to the big lineup. There are a
lot of things that that changed we. But to me,
Ricky Rubio was the number one reason that the Cavaliers
made that turn around.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
It's never one thing when when you make a switch.
The way the Caves have been doing is never It's
never overnight, obviously, But you know, I always like to
tell the story that Ricky tells that when he was
traded to the Calves, he was thinking of asking for
a buyout, and JB. Bickerstaff made up one phone call
when he was in Tokyo single handedly trying to beat
(07:42):
the US, cause he put forty something.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
In the thirty eight thirty eight in the US on
the US.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
By himself in Spain almost beat them, and one phone
call it took from jbberstuff to make him switch and
buy into the plan that jab because I have for that.
And then when he came back, when he came to town,
he literally change the culture on the culture. But he
changed you know, Kevin Love and Jetty were amazing playing
with him off the bench, and Garland created he better
(08:10):
obviously have a veteran of his statue playing you know,
watching Garland watching him is also something that is huge.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
But again I.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Believe he changed a lot of or he added a
lot to the culture that we have right now.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Absolutely, I mean you can't.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
You can't put like a number on but although there is,
you can't put numbers on it. I always think back
of Ricky's last game really fully healthy with the Cavs
was the New Orleans almost had a triple double, all
that trouble double. When he left the game. I believe
he led both the air in scoring. Then the air
(08:48):
went out out of the team for sure, but he
was leading both teams in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, and blocks.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
When he went out, he had like twenty nine to nine.
And I mean he was he was so good with Cleveland.
There's so many things he did.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Man. I thought it was when people were questioning whether
or not he was going to come back, the fact
that he was behind the bench on the January on
the December Toy first game, and and when when you
just tore your knee out, I mean, I think it's
it could say that it's very much excusable to just
like stay home.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
And that was so good.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
The reason I said be the sweet is because obviously
we hate to see him to see his career and
that way and obviously not be part of our of
our team, but also sweet because it's from his note
he seems to be doing better whatever it is that
he's dealing with in nobody's business, yes, but in his words,
he's getting better every day and very grateful to our organization,
(09:45):
you know, led by Kobe Oltman, that that they we
have given him his space and and and helped them
out through whatever he's going through.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
So we wish him the best.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
I lose a perennial pregame host, pregame pregame guys. But
you know, hey, what you gotta do. Merrill's expanding, so
he'll take over, right.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Right, And you talk about the Caves supporting Ricky as
a person. As a person, Ricky was a great guy,
the best, you know, a great guy. So all that
I have to talk about to the Cavaliers about getting
an injury buy out as well. This morning, it's snow
for those of who not in Cleveland's it was snowy
and icy out. And when I was walking my fat
(10:24):
dog this morning, Rosita, I took a spill.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
And gains like five pounds in the window she cleared
each other summer she cleans the jet for warms. Right,
it's a winter weight.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
So I'm walking my dog is winning, and I wiped out,
and I felt and like this is kind of funny,
but it's not that. I'll just tell the audience. I'm
fifty eight years old, right, and I feel good for
fifty eight. And I you know, I'm in decent jape
and I live waits and everything I walk, I just size.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
But the thought of.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Breaking my hip or injuring my hip, how do you
let and do you land me with my hip and
that's not funny, and I guess and I got a
bony as funny.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Yeah, funny. I'm sorry to tell you.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
You feel that a lot, a lot more like in
a couple of days, because I felt like two weeks
ago coming out of a McDonald's and and and I
landed on my knees and still hurts. I landed, I
landed on four on all fours. And then but today
it paid off because I was walking out of my
gym at trimn Athletic shout out to my tech army.
I was coming out and and to come out of
(11:30):
the gym, it's kind of like a stretched stairway, and
there were two ladies and a guy who was with them.
So I was being a gentleman. I'm like, let the
ladies go first. I always think of my mom being
behind me and I will I will get like a
slap in the back of the head if I walk first.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
So I'm like, please go.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
So yeah, So they walked in front, they walked in
front of me, We walked, we walked up the stairs,
came out of the gym, started walking on the street,
and like in the cartoons, man, the three of them
in front of me just like took a step forward
and then and I skater a little bit, kind of
like Jordan pulled in against against the heart last night.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
And I was able to keep my ballot, but the thrill.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
I helped one of the girls up and I could
tell she was hurting from from or embarrassed, no more
hurting than embarrassed. You left him the eyes from the back,
and you call it's not fun. So be careful everybody.
And then driving to be careful man, everybody keep driving
like it's like Sonny and ninety outside.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
To be careful out there black ice.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
If I had if my if my buddy Tim Disney
would have saw me fall down out there he did,
he'd have been really sad. Did I tell you that's
my buddy in Kirtland. I live out in Kirkland. Everybody
and Tim Disney kind of sees me like he's driving
you go.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
To church in Kirtland.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
I don't know, but anyway, Tim Disney lives out there,
and he uh, he stops and sees with me.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Tim Disney, he tell you we'll make him pay. Yeah,
if you just saw me falling the ice, he'd have
pulled over.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
And where do you fall right my street?
Speaker 1 (13:02):
It was very quiet. He was around.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
You have to sue the guy in the in the
in the in the tomb right right in the corner
at the cemetery.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
I could have I could have sued the Mormon Church
and bed loaded. But yeah, the alumn.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
The alum was located right in front of a from
a cemetery.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Temple in the cemetery.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
So and before we before we get to our special guests,
we're gonna talk to Craig Porter Junior today.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Yeah. I'm really excited to talk to him because a
couple of questions for him. You do, I do too.
We might even have the same question for him.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
Yeah, Okay, before we talk to him, we have to
talk a little because you're wearing your your brown sweatshirt today.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah, represented Browns. Give me the coolest warm cold weather gear,
which you do? You have great Browns gear. Man. I
gotta say really shout out to bron Mellan. He always
hooks me up.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Yeah, nice job. But we have to I mean, I
know there is a Caves show. We're gonna talk Calves
when we get it's a Cleveland show. It's a Cleveland show.
But we got to talk a little Browns and that
it's really like as a Browns fan, as a lifelong
Browns fan, this is this, This is the most fun
I've had in a long time. I can't remember even
during the bag And thank you again for all the
(14:08):
you know.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
You had enjoining me once this year. Man, I know
I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
You're the only brown fan, the only Browns fan that
has a full season credential. And didn't I know, I know,
I watched everybody's asking for the pretzel eating spotder.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
But it's so much fun, is it is?
Speaker 7 (14:25):
It?
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Is it fun being there, But I gotta be blast.
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
And you know, I'm not like a die hard because
right I just came. I've been in Cleveland and for
ten years. But I appreciate the fans and sometimes they're
a little crazy, especially the Browns fans.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Yeah, a little bit.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
But that Thursday night game against the Jet which happened
to be another Thursday night, because the first Thursday Night
that I remember was when we opened the butter like
coolers exactly when when Baker came in and got hurt
and he led us to the victory and reopened the
coolers and I brought you a beer.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
You still have it. I still have it. I don't
have it. I still have it. Have that too. The
bout like that.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
But also because I guess because it's the one o'clock
game most of the time at home, you don't they
don't get to put on a show. And I don't
even remember it for last Monday Night on Halloween last
year that they was. But the Jets had no chance.
The moment that that pregame show started, they had. They
had a wide out show with lights. Everybody had to
(15:22):
sing their phones and the fans all did it. And
then you know, the difference got introduced and Miles was
the last guy to come out, and then the guitars
match was Nick Chobb and he threw the goggles away
and put on a Batman mask. I said it on
there as there's no way the Browns are losing this game.
There's absolutely no way. And then Joe Flacco comes in
(15:42):
and he looks like like a reborn dude. This is
a guy who he was. He was always good. He
was he was always he was always a manager of
the game.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
I don't remember being this moke.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
But once again he's playing with a super Bowl caliber defense.
That's what he had when he was with Baltimore. And
and when you have that type of defense and you
have a quarterback, the one lose shoot the game. Because yes,
he's thrown a lot of picks, but aside from the
pick he threw against the Rams, which was like when
the game was trying to make a comeback, all the
other picks have been you know, really.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Right, we had no hasn't really heard us.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Against Houston, he threw too at the end of the half,
but everybody knew he was throwing the ball, So even
you and I could pick that ball right on Hell,
Mary's on fourth and goal from the from the twenty
yard line. Of course he is going to throw it.
So I think he just he's just been amazing. And
I was at I was at.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
The Berea Beria.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
This morning and we were talking about, you know, Jim
Short was the defensive courd.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
You know it's Jim George Jim Short.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Yeah, he was there, and we were talking about how
the moment Flako came in, everything seemed to just go
come together and and it has been and I was
telling them to me, it feels like there is that
something in the air that that always ends up with
a good thing. And we and I said we because
I have a mouse in my pocket. But we have
(17:03):
one games that the Browns never won. Before the ball
bounced the other way, there was a call. There were
even when the referees went back, call we won't gain.
There were bad referee calls in our favor this year.
So that never happened. So those are the little things
that at the end you look back and you're like, man,
remember this, remember that, remember that, remember this. So we
are the Browns are the only team with at least
(17:26):
eleven wins that have used more than one quarterback in
this season in the NBA, in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Everybody else has.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Everybody else with eleven with more than more than ten
wins have had the same quarterback.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
All year long. And we're gonna have five by the.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Five with the with the one starting on Sunday. The
only six teams have used more than five quarterbacks in
a season, Three of them were doing the strike season
and of the other two only two have. Only one
made the playoffs. It was like the eighty four Bears.
So it's this red air. It's like it's really normal
(18:00):
what they're doing. And then to find Flacco who was
sitting in his mother in law's couch trying to convince
his kids that he was actually good when looking on
YouTube video looking for YouTube videos to show his kids
that he was actually a good quarter back.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
So doesn't it seem like, I mean, and a million
things could go wrong? You know, as Browns fans are
always worried about the next shoe dropping, But they always worry, right,
but for sure, But doesn't it feel like almost that
story is being written for Flacco and the Ravens, Yeah,
to meet up, and yeah, it just feels like that
(18:35):
story is going that way. And as far as the
Brown's going the a f C, the Ravens are the
best team in the They're the class in the NFL.
But there's no other AFC team that if I'm the Browns,
I'm really afraid of.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Well, those places you don't want to go, like Kansas
City in the playoff. I know, I know they've been bad,
but my home's in the playoff is a whole different story.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Saying that they're the Bills are not a fun team
to play against, but the Browns are actually taking mine
now right, I feel I don't feel and the Ravens
will beat once. Yeah. So but you know, you know
what do you call me a podcast?
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Your podcast mercenary? A podcast mercenary if you have a
podcast McAfee.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
I'm doing a radio show in Dallas this this yeah
with your buddy what with what's his name?
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Damn? Yeah, you're doing this, you're telling me. But on
Boobie's World.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
We have a we have with I'm I'm trying to
bring in more sports than just basketball.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
So we're doing a.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Dumb take of the week, and we've been using a
lot of the guy the tweet from the guy from
the l SPA what's his name?
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Gary Bush?
Speaker 2 (19:54):
Yeah, And because he sent questions this week, and the
question was Browns fan, can you please say what is
it that worries you the most that the Browns are
gonna are gonna do to mess up in the playoffs?
I mean, so's like that thing had to change a
little bit with the fan base as well, because they
keep invoking mystery instead of enjoying and learning.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
I'm not feeling that right now. I'm feeling very optimistic
and wreak.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
The only thing I want is for the NFL to
not schedule the Browns Wildcard game on a Monday, because
he's gonna interfere with the Calves and I want to
be there. I want to I want it to be
Saturday or Sunday so we can actually.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Come back from Paris and go to the Browns playoff game.
And it's supposed to be Jackson in their line.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
It will be the AFC South, but we don't know
who's gonna win that Jackson man has to be.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
If Jackson beat the Titans, is the Jags.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
If they lose, it's whoever wins between Houston and Indianapolis.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
That's fun, so fun, it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Hey, let's uh, let's bring in Craig Porter Junior right
after the break.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
He's just been so good. So I really have a
million questions for him.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
I think I think he charged Jersey might be a
collector's item right now.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
I wonder do you think, because I'm gonna ask him,
I am going to ask about this. Do you think
they met him a buddy the elf?
Speaker 1 (21:08):
He told me he wasn't happy he didn't have to
wear the buddy.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
I asked him about that in Orlando.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
Oh my god, are you how do you wearing that?
Speaker 8 (21:19):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (21:19):
My God.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Anyway, we're gonna talk to Craig Porter Junior right after
you backer on Wine and Gold Radio Gold Radio.
Speaker 9 (21:27):
Hi, this is George Me and I like to bang
home corner threes and I never listened to Wine and
Gold Radio.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Probably over where.
Speaker 10 (21:50):
This Hi, I'm Camp Russell and I never, never, never
listened to Wine and Go radio because I'm from Michigan.
Speaker 11 (22:11):

have as the characters.
Speaker 9 (22:39):

of your rookie show you'll get me And.
Speaker 1 (22:49):

before we even get started, and I'm just gonna jump.
You're gonna You're gonna go deep in jump right into
this thing.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
I have.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
I love everything about you, except I have one beef
in that we were watching like a sixty seconds with him,
and he asked you the greatest sports rivalry, and you
said Michigan Michigan State.
Speaker 8 (23:17):
It was just the first day in the cave, like
from now when.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
You're in Ohio. Yeah, that you want to go with
Michigan versus Ohio State in football? Yeah, well, you know
it's a rivalry. Nobody even know that Ohio State plays
any other sports. Yeah, I'll give you that. I gave
you that one.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Uh, Craig, I want to ask you a few things,
you know what I want to ask just to start with,
how did you end up with the Calves? Take us
right through from so you didn't get drafted, what's the
next thing that happens?
Speaker 1 (23:51):
What? What what progresses to get you as a member
of the Cavaliers.
Speaker 12 (23:54):
So my process was, you know, on the draft night,
I mean I had a couple of little things I
thought could happen. I mean, it was possible that I
could have got drafted later, probably in the fifties, but
I kind of knew after the draft I was gonna
get that call, probably to sign like a two way
or exhibiting or something like that.
Speaker 8 (24:11):
So I was already waiting on that and I was talking.
Speaker 12 (24:14):
With Kobe and a lot of the CAVS members just
all through the whole process. So after the draft ended,
it was probably like one am. It was the longest
side stayed up in the last two days. And I
mean he just called me and called my agent and
we just talked and he just introduced me to the
calves and everything, and I mean it was just the
biggest thing that had happened to me up until that point.
(24:34):
And I mean it was just a dream come true.
Even though I wasn't where I wanted to be, I was.
I got my foot in the door and that's really
all I needed.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
So right, And they always talk about when guys get drafted,
you know, a lot depends on the situation of where
they get drafted into. And it seems like you really
got brought into the perfect situation. And again we talked
in segment one about Ricky getting the buy out, but
now you're in really a perfect situation where you can
you have an opportunity to really make some noise.
Speaker 12 (25:03):
Yeah, I mean it's it's like you said, it's literally
been the perfect situation since I got here. I mean,
it's unfortunate that guys you know, go down with injuries
and things like that, but I mean, it's it's part
of the game, and that's just one of the reasons
why I've been able to do most of the things
I've done to this point.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
So guys got down on injuries. And then last night
again Washington was really an example of when when west
Anzol throw in the bench, we had nobody else to
play because everybody else that is is capable of playing well,
and they mean just have played already.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
So that's why we said it.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
But in your case, man, you know you're capable, You
know your game, you had an amazing two years at
Wichita State. What was the mindset coming in because I know,
you know, most most of the time rookies come into
the game and they just want to make an impact,
and I know you want to make sure the coach
is kind of giving that problem of playing you. But
(25:53):
I have always on my broadcast talked about how you
you look for minute one like you belong in the
court and you were never like coming out of your
shoes in order to make an impact, and you have
made a huge impact. So what was the mindset when
you got the first you know, the first time you
bet looked down that way, Isaac.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
You know, Craig.
Speaker 12 (26:13):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (26:13):
The first time, I was definitely nervous.
Speaker 12 (26:15):
I mean I think my first few plays I kind
of messed up a little bit. It was it was
some minor stuff, and I just kept looking back at
the bench just to see if he's back down.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
Yeah, so I was nervous.
Speaker 12 (26:25):
But uh, I mean after like those first few mess ups,
he just pulled me to the side and just told
me like, hey, we brought you here for a reason.
Speaker 8 (26:31):
We know you can play. I mean, just go out
there and play.
Speaker 12 (26:34):
And I mean ever since then, I just I just
realized he knew and that I was pretty good.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
I mean obviously he believed in me.
Speaker 12 (26:40):
So uh, I mean just that having that confidence from
him just I mean played a lot to me because
playing five years in college, I mean I've really seen
just about everything you could see, I mean even at
the JUCO level. So I mean this it just prepared
me for this and I just try to take it
as cool as I can.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
And you just made a good point, and you brought
brew up a good point of five years in college.
You think that that has work to your advantage hugely
here because you I mean, like you said, you've seen
almost everything, but you got to play for four years,
five years in college instead of just coming into the
NBA after two years, I'm basically just sitting and watching basketball.
Speaker 8 (27:13):
Oh yeah, definitely.
Speaker 12 (27:13):
I mean because even when I was in the JUCO level,
I mean I had to learn to play a certain role,
so like even through all of my years, it's always
been different, and really up until my senior year, just
this past year, I didn't really get to do like
everything I wanted to do on the court. So I
mean it really kind of just prepared me because I
knew coming into the NBA, I wasn't going to be
the Donovan.
Speaker 8 (27:32):
Mitchells or the Dary Scarland.
Speaker 12 (27:34):
So I know I was going to have to figure
out a couple of good things that I could do
to help a team win. And I mean it's been
happening like that since I've picked up a ball, and
it's just it just helped me preparefect.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Although the other night I saw a little Dono a
Mitchell move coming out and I saw You're looking down
at the bench when you did that little I don't
even know what took, like.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
A little hook that swooped. Yeah, I always see him
do that. Now, I was just like, you knew it, right.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Has the NBA has the NBA world been everything you imagined?
Or has anything kind of caught you by a surprise
or is this kind of what you thought it'd be.
Speaker 12 (28:08):
Uh, it's definitely more surprising. I'd say, probably just the
amount of time you have to just do. I mean,
it's just free time, honestly, even though it's not. I mean,
you could be working on really anything you want. But uh,
it's a lot different.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Though.
Speaker 12 (28:22):
You don't have to worry about classes or anything like
that at your job.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
So you really go to class though when you collage.
Speaker 8 (28:28):
Yeah, class, I don't know a little bit.
Speaker 12 (28:31):
Some days I'm filled some six days, but you know,
but I went for the most part. But I mean,
it's it's definitely different. I mean, you got so much
free time and stuff, and uh, I mean I'm just
still trying to figure out everything I need to do
in all that time.
Speaker 8 (28:43):
But I mean it's seeing all these guys.
Speaker 12 (28:45):
You you play them with them on the video games,
and you see these guys you idolize, and now you're
with them.
Speaker 8 (28:50):
It's it's just such a big change. But I mean,
I feel like I've handled it pretty well.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
I also had to say that it was really good that.
I mean, you know, it will be nice for the
Charge fans to get to see you, but you haven't
played with the Charge.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
This year Collection Collector's item the Craig Porter Jr.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Charge Jersey Great Porters Junior Buddy the Elf Uniform because,
like I said, the fact that you missed that, that
that might be the highlight of your rookie season that
you didn't have to play in the Buddy of the
Elf uniforms.
Speaker 8 (29:17):
Man, that was both pictures.
Speaker 12 (29:20):
It's a rough man, Yeah, I'll ask you. And you
thought you were happy that out there? Yeah, they brought
them to me in the locker room. I want to
see you wearing them. Man, I'm too bright. The guys
haven't made you. You know, how is your rookie.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Duty is going? You know?
Speaker 8 (29:37):
With the guys, I haven't had to do too much.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
Honestly.
Speaker 12 (29:40):
They haven't been on me about anything really, just picking
up some little stuff, getting guys some groceries or whatever
they need. But it's been pretty chill so far. They
haven't done anything too crazy.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
I've been here for ten years. I'll give you an
advice whatever Tristan.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Asked you to do it, but the consequences could be
very full of Punkcorn ain't looking forward to that.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Have you gotten to like again, you're you're both have
different experiences. But what's been like being with fellow rookie
at money Baits?
Speaker 1 (30:09):
How's he been?
Speaker 8 (30:10):
I mean, it's it's just a blessing to be with him.
Speaker 12 (30:13):
I mean, and I always forget, like because we came
in here together and like so we was just the
whole training camp and the whole leading up to everything
leading up to the Summer League. We was just together,
even like the hotel we were staying out, like we
just hung out and connected right away. And sometimes I
forget he's almost four years five.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Years younger than me.
Speaker 12 (30:30):
Yeah, he's a teenager still so but he's I feel
like he's a lot more mature than his age, just
being held to the standard he's held to since he
was like fourteenth.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
So so he's just he's just.
Speaker 12 (30:41):
Been through a lot too. And uh, I mean he's
he's just a phenomenal kid. I mean, he's always willing
to learn. Obviously he wants to be able to play now,
but I mean he's he understands the position he's in
and given everything that's around this team, like we're pretty deep,
especially at his position, So like there's a lot of
things that he just still needs to learn and just
figure out. But to be in the position he's in
(31:01):
and to be the talent he has, I mean, it's
it's scary, and it's the fact that we got him
at the pick week. I am is that's the craziest
thing to me.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Like it's just they going back to the sixty second
with a man you were you were asked about.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
What's the name of Kelsey's girlfriend, Taylor Swift? Taylor Swift?
Speaker 2 (31:21):
You blame it on your girlfriend and you know this song,
come on, you are swifty?
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Yes or no? I am.
Speaker 8 (31:30):
I know that that fair basis they got power.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Yeah, you gotta watch out. Yeah you don't want to
cross that. So let's get back to basketball.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
You know you mentioned the injuries, right, but what has
clicked with this team, especially in terms of like sharing
the ball and every every night everybody seems to have
like a career night or a season high. The other
night was the team? Why season high? What has really
changed in terms of the mindset, in terms of the
style and going back to the Cavalier type of basketball.
Speaker 12 (31:59):
We understand, especially with what the coaches are telling us,
like we don't have all our full power with everybody
like Evan DG being out tie and everybody like that.
And so we realized we got to play more team
oriented basketball. All the stuff we used to do, it's
probably not gonna work right now. So I mean it's
just really just hitting that open man, just not getting
tired of making the easy plays. And I mean yesterday
(32:22):
was a good example of that team, or the seasoned
high and assist. I mean, you got guys just shooting
the ball just so well. I mean, and we got
so many pieces around this team to where you can
be unselfish enough and you'll still get your own And
I feel like guys are starting to understand that. And
it's I mean, the players just going to another level
right now.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
The last thing when I ask you is we've talked
earlier about the Paris trip.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Are you ready? Are you ready for the Paris? Are you?
Are you prepared to packed? Are you?
Speaker 8 (32:51):
I'm not packed.
Speaker 12 (32:53):
We just had a meeting and they was telling us
it's gonna be like mid thirties. The whole time, So
I mean, being from the West already kind of.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Yeah, whether it's the least of my worries, yeah, oh yeah,
that's the fool words.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
Is that your Taylor Swift girlfriend. You're gonna have to
You're gonna do some chopping. You're gonna have to.
Speaker 8 (33:20):
We're gonna get her, right though. I've been herd about
since I was saying.
Speaker 12 (33:24):
You're in high school going on almost six years high school, sweetheart?
Speaker 1 (33:27):
All right? So you you okay?
Speaker 2 (33:29):
I think I see how you can get used to
you to her music and better before you go.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
Is there a nickname that that people call you?
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Because you know in my broadcast on everybody has a nickname.
I just want you know, you're gonna leave it up
to me to come.
Speaker 12 (33:44):
Up with I'm gonna probably leave it up to you
because I've seen a bunch on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
I'll trust you. Yeah, all right, you got to do good.
All right. By the time you guys get back, I
want to we'll work on it, all right. Yeah, we're okay,
all right.
Speaker 3 (34:00):

the cavalier bench. Toron Luke pointed down that bench and
one of the newest cavaliers in bird Man, Chris Anderson,
jumped off the bench. He started ripping, started ripping off
his warm ups, got all the way to the scores.
A toront said, uh, I was pointing at lebron, so
(35:03):
it set it back down the beach.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
Strug And you're gonna you're gonna learn his title now
that he got promoted.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
No, I'm not gonna learn it. But Trum just finally
got a well deserved promotion. I don't know what you
got promoted to, but whatever, whatever it is, you deserve.
Speaker 13 (36:21):
That director of basketball communicse.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
That's so great. That's a big time man.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
Hey, can I be Can I get promoted to the
director of Spanish broadcast?
Speaker 3 (36:29):
You and I have I've been twenty has the longer
I've ever gotten you.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
I have the longest tenure title running. I've never gotten one.
You should be the director beat writing.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Give me something, manager beat writer at dot com? Yeah something,
give me anything, you know, but I've never got row me.
You deserve it more than anything. You deserve it, and
welcome to the show. Yes we talk.
Speaker 14 (36:52):

Well, welcome to communications ropes, every podcast, like yeah, every
podcast that that you can think of.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Ralph bon I'm an equal opportunity podcasting.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
But we wanted to talk to you romy because the Calves, uh,
there'll be you know, we'll play Washington Friday night and
then San Antonio, Wemby rolls in Sunday, Jedi rolls in
the Return of Jety on Sunday afternoon, and then right
after the game, and I'm gonna have you guys explain
because I am not going. You guys are off to
(37:29):
Gay Patty how do you say it, buddies. You guys
are off to Paris with the Calves annual parastrip.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Are you excited?
Speaker 14 (37:36):
I'm super excited. I've never been overseas before. Really, Okay,
so yeah, it's a free trip, but it's also a
working trip.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Yeah, you'll be you'll be really busy. I've heard have
you talked to other teams that have done it?
Speaker 14 (37:48):
No, but I've seen some pictures last year when I'm
with the Bulls in Detroit, I believe those yes, Okay,
oh my gosh, those pictures A lot of media.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
I gotta tell you something. Be ready because the international
media is.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Very different to what you, as I used to hear
is maybe the first day might be a little bit
of educating on.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Your side, but everybody through because it's not us.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Well, you've done all Stars, so you're kind of have
a little Yeah, how would you how would you characterize them?
I say, they don't have the same.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
It's not as organized. Yeah, it's not. The etiquette is
completely different. But I guess you know, the first day
when we get there, you guys will have a You
have your time to let everybody know what the what
the rules are.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
You know what the Presian media is going to feel
next week the iron fist PJ is going to come
down hard.
Speaker 13 (38:38):
I'm just gonna follow suit.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Whatever we have to find out. How you say iron
fist in French.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Because they're gonna get it. Are you bringing any your
loved ones at all?
Speaker 1 (38:50):
You are.
Speaker 13 (38:52):
Very nice, So it's as a good vacation for her.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
She'll be on vacation, you'll be working.
Speaker 13 (38:57):
She's really ready to eat some food.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
In the fair, in the fair.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
The iron faced and fright for you. You are bringing
I'm bringing my wife and my daughter. Oh wow, yeah,
my daughter is coming to bring her boyfriend. Oh man,
we're gonna have We're planning on Wednesday. Yeah, we're planning
on Wednesday to have a family out in Paris and
then everything else. I told him, I said, listen, I'm
(39:26):
gonna be practicing, and they both said almost in unison,
don't worry about it. You take care of.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
Your thing, you do your caps, and will do Paris.
So they basically saying, go to practice, We'll be fine.
Speaker 13 (39:38):
Just ton't worry about that. I feel, yeah, she's gonna
do it, that's fine.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
The whole time, did you do the Brazil trip?
Speaker 13 (39:47):
I did not do the Brazil Okay.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
I did not either. You didn't know.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
I had spent a month in Brazil for the walk up,
and when I came to the interview, one of the
hooks they have for me was, hey, you know you
can go to Paris, you can go to Brazil, And
I'm like, I just spent a month.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
He got a hotel dining room.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
The question I had was the league at the time
gave us all kinds of primers and we had a
like an all team kind of meeting for everybody that
was going to travel. Has the NBA or anyone giving
giving you guys guidelines.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
The Calves have done a really wonderful job.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
I mean, these guys obviously have their own department and
they have a lot of other things to worry about,
but we have over two hundred people going in terms
of clients, in terms of you know, because it's a
home game for the Calves, so our entertainment group is
going and the mascots are going that yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Everybody, you're kidding me, Yeah, the stand crews.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
It's a home game.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
So they've done a really good job getting everybody to
getting everybody together, and you know, because like Trump say,
it's the first time going going you know, overseas, and
there's a lot of people that you know, it's a
challenge to make it out there. I mean even from
the single thing, the single item of like the electricity
is different in Europe, so you need to bring your adapters.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
They gave us that they gave us.
Speaker 14 (41:08):
What's crazy is that this is a regular season game. Yea,
the Brazils pre season and all the times pre season.
So that's the first regular season game, so it would
be interesting.
Speaker 13 (41:16):
It's going to be.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
Yeah, preseason, you can you're you kind of chill and
you're you know, but now you're gonna have to You're
going right from Sunday, right yeah, I mean yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
And these guys have like team pictures of the Tory
fell I mean they have.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
The NBA has like a fan first type of thing. Right.
There's a lot of appearances by players, So it's not
amazing I think for the fan.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
For the player, I don't think it's as much fun
as what we can make it up to be. We
arrive at six thirty in the morning on Tuesday and
hoping to get to the hotel on time to get
on the bus to go to the tower and then
to practice and then so it's.
Speaker 1 (41:52):
A work trip.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Yeah, yeah, significant. And the good thing is that at
the time Trumi will know if you're gonna have to
wear if you're gonna get another chance.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
To wear his cheese head again this.
Speaker 13 (42:06):
Season, cheese in front of Eiffel Towers?
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Yeah yeah, are you gonna are you traveling with it?
Are you gonna like pack it? Are you gonna wear
it on the plane?
Speaker 1 (42:14):
Right now?
Speaker 14 (42:14):
The rules is now he can bring one check bag,
so hope need carry out, just wear it. Yeah, remember
you can buy a real cheese.
Speaker 12 (42:23):
Over there, and just like, yeah, when I get that.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
If the if I get a picture of rowing with
a cheesehead, I'm in front of the I'm putting it
on my mantel.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
In front of the Bring a terrible towel.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
You don't they have?
Speaker 14 (42:45):
Don't they have the thing that they travel with, a
terrible towel every whatever. I don't have the stove too much.
I mean, we want to super Bowl against themselves.
Speaker 1 (42:56):
So you're gonna do some shopping and do you have anything?
Do you have anything? Like?
Speaker 3 (42:59):
Do you guys have anything for yourselves? Planned? Is there
one thing you want to see? One thing you want
to do.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
I'm not much of a fan of I'm not much
of a fan of Paris because you know, I was
called before, yes, okay, and I was called an ugly
American one and my respond to them was, you should
be thankful that I'm an ugly American because it wasn't
for us. You'll be speaking German right now.
Speaker 7 (43:19):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
And that was the And that was the end of
the conversation, or to that, at the end of the
conversation because you know, I wow, I like when I
go to countries that can of welcome tourism and but
parents mean, that was just a bad restaurant. But I'm
not I'm not crazy about My wife is she loves it.
Speaker 1 (43:38):
She loves to go there. So I'm looking forward to
my wife being happy. Is it Henry wife happy life? Yeah?
Is it? Is it true that they are rude and
they don't like to speak any other language? I'm French.
That's a problem.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
It's a problem, especially if you're working in hospitality section.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
Yeah, I would say so.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
Like you go to places and the menu don in French.
It's like, dude, are you translated this for me?
Speaker 3 (44:05):
So see, when I went to Italy, Italy is the best,
but I was with someone who spoke Italian.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Yeah, so that helped.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
But you also have people that wanted they want to welcome,
you want to play. And again I'm general generalizing to
my experience. Yeah, and my Mike, like you said, my
me pulling out the World War two card, which is it's.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
Like what what what the equivalent on the car?
Speaker 2 (44:27):
It's like unbeata ball, It's like that there's no comeback,
but you there's no comeback on the World War two Car.

You remember my name ever since then? Because right uncle
Jerome stopped and that was a media day. Was our
media day? The power went out? Yeah, we had two
two day media day. Yeah, we had Yeah, so that
(45:33):

and they're more fun and they play, they play with passion,
they go.
Speaker 13 (46:14):
They do have the experience.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
