And then Sandy Alomar hit the first ever, first ever

first game of the season. So I met him in
the morning when they were having like a big TV
thing at I. I was doing a show and he

always loved the fact that. And then you learned things
about him that he decided to do that as a
twenty one year old, like ahead of his time. I

think you know, they didn't know that when you one
years old he was, and he they made him pay
for a seat for him that I did, and that's crazy.
They made him pay for a chair, a ticket for
his for his drum. That's nuts to me. Man. And
then also as an ignorant transplanted Cleveland that I was
when I came here, I thought and more a lot

They we thought that the drum was related to the
team being the Indians, you know, like boom boom, right,
right right, And then I learned that he was him
trying to emulate the noise that fans made when they
were banging on the chairs at all Municipal stadium and

like again, like you're used to games and it's still
not as full as it should be in like a
forty thousand see thirty thousand place that used to be
like seventy eight thousand people. It was so empty and
all you'd hear like I asked this question and I

the Reflox show. They did not include him in the
in the Major League movie about the Indians. I think
that's a disgrace. If it wasn't, it kind of is.
And I'm not gonna say it's a disgrace, but now
that you're talking about well not yes, it kind of is.

did we ever have heard of Cass game wouldn't have
been a badass if he all of a sudden, like

was going to say, because like you don't, you don't
drink anymore, and I had that bottle of wine that
you say you will not drink, but I still trying

that February and Ganuary and February are the equivalent of June,
July and August in baseball, because we are now starting
to realize that this freaking season is here to stay.

three out of the seven days of the week and
then the other four days today is Sunday. But you
know it's like the dog days or summer for baseball.
This this is like the the polar bare days of
of of winter for for for the for the fan,
for the basketball fan. It's starting to get there. And
when you talk about what's coming up a week break, man,

these guys are human being. And I don't care how
old they are. I don't want to criticize it because
they're young, because then I'm fitting that years all today
and I'm already thinking about February six, when it's the
start of a five day break that I get to
like forget about everything that I love so I can
continue to love what I do, you know what I mean. So,

and I'm not beating myself up. So but with in
terms of the calves, it's hard to to argue against
the fans that love this team and support it and
feel angry or cheated when the team loses and they
forget about the reality thing that can eighty two game season,
and that's that is a team that's supposed to be

behind the standings supposed to where the rest Celtics, the Nets,
the Philadelphia, I Milwaukee, the relation. It's actually ahead in
the standings of Toronto, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, those teams that
made the playoff and and and what you know, So
we are where we want to be. We are. We
are in a situation that they need to address things right.

But we're nine games Finn, They're going into the Memphis game.
We and JB said it, there's sevent teams with thirty
wins in the league. We are one of them. I
think we're kind of right where we should be and
everybody else should be there, and we are. I don't
want to say ahead of the program, but we are.
We are what we expected. You're just getting Ricky back,

you know, you just he still hasn't think about it.
On top of us, we have Durant and Kyrie hardened
and indeed we have great free Atum and and Brown,
Janni's Middleton and Holiday and only that all those teams
have been to a final recently warned all right, so

we are there and and and yes, and JB said
about you know what I mean again, those teams don't
have a twenty two year old and a twenty three
year old, and you know how many of those have
us started player in the All Star Game. You have
to go through it. You have to all teams. I
mean again, JB has mentioned as many times your Celtics

had to go through the Pistons, had to go through
the Bulls, had to go through the Pistons. You know,
the Spurs had to go through the Lakers. It happens.
You have to go through that. Being said, we keep
getting ourselves in situations like the game against the Clippers. Well,
you have to show where we made of whoever whoever

we played after the Warriors the bus the following so
that night we have to show where we made of
that we laid an egg the size of a t rex. Yes,
or it happens to every team in the NBA. Right,
But then you show you learn from them. That's what
they say is winds and lessons instead of winds and losses.
You need to learn, right, they show what they show

that they actually learned the lesson when the Clippers came
in wounded with the calendar loss and that, and they
came in and took care of business and step on
them the way they should have, and and that's it, right,
So we are in that position that we haven't won
because secondary games at the beginning of the year. We
are you know, nine games over five whichever numbers. You

can massage him and look at them whichever way you want, right,
we just need to step up to the to the challenge.
But you know, again, the game against Miami, right, Miami
changing us. They've been in that situation. They've been to
the finals, they went to the finals in the bubble.
They are a team that has been coached by the
same guy and the same system forever, so they've been

there wasn't a big game for them. For us, it
was something. It was a new lesson. It was a
new chapter of this growing process, right, and it's still
going moving forward, I think. So I think that's my
message to the fans. Just don't don't lose track of
what we have to support here and the talent that
we have and the unicorn that we have a number four,
and how he's growing and how he's showing and now

and don't know, Mitchell having a career year and and
even he said it's like this guy is not falling,
like it will be everything will be okay. And in
you don't really have. I mean, the thing is, you
might have four closers or five closers, but you don't
know who the closer really is right now. So they're
gonna figure all that. They're gonna figure these things out.

I guess what it will be totally different in the playoff. Yeah, yeah,
and and something else in the playoffs. But you know,
what I'm looking forward to is looking forward to the
break like you are. I'm looking forward to after the
break where if they're healthy. Now you know you're done
with your Western Conference teams, teams aren't going to roll
in resting guys, you know now, games all mean something.

You're gonna be taking on Eastern Conference teams, jockeying for position,
people looking at the standings right now a sudden, you're yeah,
now you're every day checking the standings where you're at,
and who's behind you and who's in front of you.
So you know, again some of these games and you
mentioned it, and you have a real beef. You're not alone.
But about how these guys resting, how many guys have

rested when they came here. Lillard and Luca and Harder
and Harden and uh um, the Clippers you know. So,
I mean, Curry, it's a problem, and I think it's
a problem. But but that's not that's not gonna be
solved or go away. No. So and and and one
of the things also that that I was discussing with
with some of the guys was, first of all, you

have to take whatever is in front of you. The
Clippers came in with up with the wounded warriors. You know,
want to take it. Nobody feels bad for you when
you were in the beat them up. When they take it,
put it, you call, put them put in the right
column and move onto the next one. And and because
when we show up somewhere whatever it is, or somebody
comes into town and we have four guys out like
we had last year, nobody saying, you know what, I'll

see my guys, so we can we can be even.
That's why, like again, you're gonna certain games you give away,
certain games you steal. But at the end of the year,
if you're one game out of the this spot or
one game out of the playoffs, you're gonna look at
that Golden State game and you're gonna say they gave
us that one. It's more than one game. Then again,
there have been other games, but like there's one that's

gonna stick to you, and it's gonna say, man, they
came into town and pretty much gave that to us.
We take for you to take it, but they didn't
give it to us. I'm saying, they came out and playing.
I understand that the taking. We didn't take that foot
on the plate. That's it and you can't do that
in the NBA. Cannot and they'll learn that. But again,
at the end of the season, Joe, it's really easy
to say, okay, man, this game, we could have won

the game. Again, the next we could have taken and
you know they we gave away this game. How many
how many leaves that will give away on the first
trip that that's that's going to happen, right, But you
just gotta take care of business now. After the All
Star break, you can't anymore away. That's where the coaching
staff comes in. Yeah, make this, make sure these guys staying,
staying the game, stay mentally ready until that we finished

the game in Philadelphia, and then make sure that they
at least see the gym during those six days, because
that's what happened to when teams come back there are
guys that need to get back on track. Yeah that
thing that didn't hit the gym. You know what I mean,
it's normally nature. I won't I already have planned that
I won't even go to the gym, doing doing doing

my stay in the All Star right, O, can't wait.
I'm resting. I'm like, but that's my that's my way
of keeping what I do fresh and so I can
come back and continue to you know what I do.
You need because I don't want to hate. I don't
have to wake up one morning and be like, man,
I have to go to Well, I left my other job.
That's why I'm a broadcaster, not because the other job

would burn me out. Right right, I'll say this after
it because I'm going to You've been to a few
All Star games. I've been to a lot. I'm not
going anywhere. Well, I'm just saying I know myself and
I remember, you know, we go with lebron Kyrie and
all that, and when you came back from that weekend,
you're cooked. You don't feel like going to the second half.

You're especially remember they ran them through everything, so now
they have a whole week right right before. You still
be a weekend. Yeah, at least now they have, which
also works against them because now they have more events
to do with. This is what the guys make their
money too. Yeah. You know, all these guys with all
these sponsors and all this stuff. This is where they
have to go and do the the Nike thes and

the on the arm or Dad and the Adidas this
and the shoes. Yeah. Yeah, you got run the circuit.
But that's what you gotta pay the bill. Yeah, for sure,
all right, so for sure. Uh. You know, what we
were talking about earlier was how weird it was that
the trade deadline used to be after the All Star weekend.
It seems like it's crazy that it was always before,
but it used to be after. It's big. That's a
big that's like two weeks in. You know, you can

go to All Star Weekend and come back with another team.
It's kind of weird. It happened to add it's happened before.
DeMarcus Cousins one time. I remember being with All Star
we did. Oh yeah. Uh. Anyway, you know, you know

since the World Cup. And Mommy is trying to explain
why we don't like you got you got them all right.
We don't like the flopping, we don't like we we
like to have stats. What else is it? But the
thing with soccer we have stats, we do have stats.

We don't but we don't understand them. So much attention
to it. Okay, that's that's the problem. I just don't
think there's not enough scoring for for distance number one
popular here because it's tech about. In baseball, I have
seen Jack Morris throw out one nothing game. I need
the most exciting baseball game I ever watched right, right,
and and and the World Cup game was fantastic. I

loved it. It was one of the best games of
any sport I've seen. Going back to picking back to
what you just said, Uh, best Boy is one of
those sports that I have nice drive to understand it.
It's really hard. It's so slow. It takes one six hours.

He can't go it's so slow. I went to one once.
I mean, I support, I support the cops no matter what.
But it took like for six hours and they kept going.
So I told the guys, I'm going home. I'm gonna
go get food. I'm gonna go to slip. They're probably

I can't in soccer is football, Like I still can't
call it soccer. Americans called football and support that Americans
are only only two guys, four guys out of a
hundred actually touched the ball with their feet. Everybody else

soccer doesn't have commercials for forty five minutes when the toy.

It's not a made for TV sport. That part, that
part is kind of nice. It's one of the battles

what I feel like, Americans like exciting things, things with

born at some point. But yeah, um, people get more
excited when you say high number and good defense and
crazy stuff happening. But I can compare one thing to soccer.
That's what we just talked about. To me, it's a baseball.

I think it's super slow. It is baseball, And I
have no idea why people get excited. I mean at first,
I didn't know the rules. So people like, you know,
you hear that people get excited. No, I'm like, he
didn't go anywhere. That guy got it, like, yeah, but
you touched the first place. Oh okay. Then it was

in high school I got I got a start. Actually
in high school, I don't remember really well what guys
were seeing. I was playing. I was trying to you know,
so I hit the ball bad and then I stead
of going to first base, I went to the other one. Yeah.
I had no idea. I've seen it once and well

I wasn't showing what they're doing. I thought you can
choose all right, left people are laughing and said, no, yeah,
I'm running the excited. I'm like, oh, I can do
this for forever. See that if you played it that way,
baseball would be a really exciting. It would be a

lot more fun if you can just run any base
Maybe ask you a question the explain to to our
audience the amazing feet that it would be too cover.
For example, for people that think that soccer is boring,
to try and to run next to with the ball

at a fastest speed that you can run without anything
on you. And they's still I mean, if you can't
find that exciting, and I don't know what, I don't

who don't know, you're a fan of the French, of

why I'm so tired to to friends. But I just

much hurt if friends guinea, you know, and how's Guinea

and Guinea is good, but the problem is always it's
a lot of corruption there. You don't they don't invest
so much in soccer, it's the biggest sport there. But
guys are scared to come back and really try hard
for the for the country because if they get hurt,
they're not taken care of. In other on other national

teams such as French. I'm gonna give you an example.
Ben Zima got hurt, but that's not gonna hurt him
for his career because the French team is going to
take care of him exactly. So the money is not
gonna come out of his pocket. So if you're going
to play for your national team, whether it's soccer or basketball,

anything in Africa, especially in South America too, maybe a little,
but like you invest more and if you pay, I
think you you invest more. You know where my country
made this work up. In nine eighty two, we have
the biggest the biggest defeat in the history of wold Up.

were the last team to arrive in in Spain the
day before the match. The team didn't have jerseys to change.
After the game, the math they have to keep them.
And they were all warming up and like practicing with

who were supposed to go to Senegal to play and
sing or something like that. They tell us the next
day the buss is living at ten am right something
like that whatever, and the flat at nineties had seven
or six some something. So they wanted us to get
to the airport earlier so we can do the formalities
and all those stuff before getting on on the plane.

I get all my luggages, my family comes and drops
me off at the stadium and I stayed. There's twelve,
and I'm thinking, Okay, it's African time. You know, it's
not ten, it's really it's really one. I still there
until too the coaching staff come and tell me, yeah,

I don't think we're going. I'm like, wait what They're like, no,
when we're not going? I'm like, why, Yeah, the bus
the bus broke and stuff like that. I'm like, but
we can all uber, we can take a taxi to
the to the airport. They say, no, the flight left us.
Oh my god, man, that's the third role for you. Yeah,

like the literally like the flight took off, the left
us behind. I'm like, there's no, wait, how can you
supposed to live in the next three hours? But again,
are you the kind of the reason for the flight?
That'd be like the Cavs team flight leaving without the players.
I mean, isn't it so what the did was that
took the money put on the on the pockets. Yeah,
and and just's all though, some crazy stars. We are

so we are so spoiled as Americans. We are so
do you? I mean you must think that we're spoiled
as hell? Right, let's talk a little basketball. We're coming

be at a restaurant or a bar and you hear

something and I kind of have an ever long notes
apple and I'm just kind of like, yeah, this would
be good in this situation somewhere. And then it's also
like working with our DJs who do like the warm ups,
which is more catered to the players obviously if if
you've been to a game, it's a little bit you know,
more more hip hop stuff for the players, and so
it's working with them on what they play, you know,

making sure that what they have is is safe for
for for playing arena because they're you know, they're just DJs.
They're coming in out of nowhere and they you know,
they're just playing whatever the hits are. So yeah, it's
it's it's a heck of a job. And it's like
I said, it never ends, and you're constantly searching for
something that's gonna not only be good for people to
dance to, which like because that's we're a big, high

energy building, but also something that might make sense for

throwing him off. So, like do you ever think about that,
like where you you have to kind of feel every

moment or the there are moments where you have to
be yes, they and there's it's usually a UM. We
have like during the pandemic, we came up with like
weekly meetings with like other game presentation people around the league,
because we weren't you know, there wasn't much going on,
so we're like, let's just talk about how to evolve
our shows based on you know, everything was going on.

So that was a big converse top topic converse station.
It's always like do you allow for like natural noise?
How often do you do it? Like a lot of
other arenas do it. More like even the nixt now,
like they're very they play a lot of organ and
then then other than that they'll do some you know,
just that sound and they'll let it go. So it
really just kind of comes down on what I think.

(01:07:19):
It really depends on just what kind of directive you're
getting from the top. I mean, there's a lot of
buildings that I've been to that are super loud. Miami
is very loud. We're up there also, We've always been
up there, I mean, but there are other buildings around like, man,
this is like topefully different. It's not what I'm used to.
So there's It's another one of those things where you
try it out and sometimes like and I don't really

(01:07:39):
want to say this, but sometimes like I don't think
it matters to the players, but like if we're having
like a if we're on the tail end of a
bad run, I might just back off just for that
and be like, all right, let's just see if we
can be like, you know, get some kind of rally
together here without me like pulsating the entire arena and
like that. And then you talked about this earlier out

(01:08:00):
having constantly been the lookout for new music and stuff
like that. Are you. I mean, most of what you
play is is pretty much hip hop, I would say, right,
and I don't. I don't know if there's a better
name for it. I'm an old guy, but like Oklahoma
City plays all rock. They don't play almost any hip hop,
So it's like, do you have to kind of is
that related to the fact that they do an invocation

(01:08:21):
before the game? Well it might be actually might be related,
but yeah, the Oklahoma City kind of does their own thing,
and it's kind of one of the only arenas that
I mean they played just straight rock and roll. Yeah. Yeah,
that's pretty much how it's been since. I feel like
oh six oh seven for us, like we really transitioned
a lot um, you know, when Dan bought the team
and we kind of like ramped up game ops like

three times what we were doing at the time, and
that was right around when I was coming in. So
it is interesting to see the disparity because doing baseball
and even to an extent, the Browns this year like
totally different, Like they want a lot more rock music.
They want a lot more like sing along songs because
bull are there's a little bit of old demographic and yeah,

and you're trying to just get people to have fun,
you know, when things are going so well, or when
there's like a really slow point, like what the days
that I work basketball here and then like baseball the
next day, it's like almost like I'm in slow motion
at the ballpark because things move so much slower in
baseball than than they do in basketball. So yeah, it's

a crazy disparity, but yeah, we we do. We did
a little bit of rock that year. We had the
Rock Hall jerseys, like we we tried to incorporate a
little bit there um and obviously like theme nights, if
we do like an eighties or a nineties type night,
we'll bring some more. But it just doesn't from our
you know, perspective, it doesn't really mesh well with our

show and how we're trying to get as long as
you don't get into doing that stupid bit that the
Red Sox have with sweet counter line. I'm all, I'm
all from whatever you want to try. I don't. I
don't like that sweet counter line. When do they do it?
Like it's just a Red Sox Yankees thing, or it
could be anybody the Yankees duty after the seventeen in

Joe and then everybody dancers. Then that's what they do.
You know the one song in Arena that drives me
insane that it just it makes it just makes me
angry to hear. It's probably like an angry it's an

And like I already hate the Celtics anyway, And when
they play the song from the Departed shipping up the
bus and yeah, is that drop Kick Murphy's Yeah, the angry,
real angry Irish song. That song just you'll never hear.
You'll never hear that in the basketball game here. You
may hear that on the hockey side with the Monsters,
but you'll never hear that because that's like one of
those ones almost like Sweet Caroline too, where Boston thinks

they own it. Yeah, so if we're gonna play it
like it's almost like there are some songs that everybody
uses and I think that, like it's Miami uses a
song that if I forget, how we go with the beat.
But literally they actually thought that I met, you know,
when I was living in Miami, that they thought it
was like a song created by the Miami Heat. It's
like the one they do when they're like rallying. I'll remember,

but it's just the beat. It's just the boom boom boom,
and everybody go, oh, I forget how we go? Oh yeah,
the Tambi Nation. It's like that army but everybody does

that now. It's like it's like it's it's really hard
to force a tradition. Like some of those things just
happened naturally. Like I'd be interested to see how Sweet
Caroline became. Like the Mets, for example, when when somebody
is getting relieved from the from the visiting team, they

kind of good, and they just do the beat and

everybody just goes crazy. That song they have at the
when the black Hawks win that for telling songs that, yeah,
that's one, you know that one, that's a good one,
and people fans know that, man, fans, and they relate
to that. It's like, it's amazing how they It also
helps if you have success, like I was. I helped
out one of our friends, who was Johnny Greco who

worked for the Negas Golden Knights. I went out and
kind of helped him get their music library started. When
they first started out and their search for a goal
song was I mean, they didn't really know what to do,
and they tried like three or four different things that
didn't hit. Finally they picked some song from the Killers.
But what helped was that they played well and yeah, yeah,
I just love everything. And so next thing you know,

there's a guy fighting a night fighting on the on
the ice and they were in the nation. Yeah it's important, man.
I mean again, it's you have an important job and
that you in many ways. You know, the team obviously
controls most of it, but you control the emotions of
the of the team, of the fans. The seventeen fans
are almost eighteen thousand or right. You're you're in your

hands and you've seen it at the Joe tape perch
where we're at. Sometimes that that emotion kind of like
you get really involved, like even play by play standpoint,
like you're you're in it, you get you're you're living
that game. And there are times when I turned up
the p A because it's just I just want, you know,
my my gig on the radio is to make people

feel like they're here. So I played the tiling line
ups and I played the anthem, and then whenever, whenever
there's something going on, I kind of like, you know,
like when when when who is it that came on
on the team the other day? He oh when Ricky
came back? You know, everybody was like, yeah, so's it's good.
Sometimes in this building, the fans make it easy, like

iaking of the fans. I don't want it to sound
that I'm complaining, but like we need to come up
with like an and again it's all generic, it's natural, nothing, nothing,
but like like we need to do a better job
when the team is not doing well to stay in
the game, because sometimes I think that our fans like
get out of the game as well. And that's the

hard part. When you're playing on the road, you know,
it's like, and I hate to say this, but like
Oracle Arena was just amazing. They're down, They're rarely down,
but they would sense. But at my point is if
they were down ten and they had a six old run,
they will get into it. And if they were up

six and they had a neat or run, they got
into it. So it was it was constant, and it's
like in New York. You would mentioned in the organ
in New York all that is it's like and everybody
goes and it just gets louder and louder. So it's it.
And again, but like you said, when the team does well,
that's when those things are born. We'll find out in

playoffs because that's that was always interesting being here for
the first time. We had a lot of success and
then obviously the last the last era, like four years, fans,
the fans like that fifteen, sixteen seventeen, like they were
they were it would I wouldn't say angry, but they
were like they were like at them. That's something that

I always remember and I feel like that's a big
you know, it's kind of like a big hockey thing,
like those fans are like they are ready to go Philadelphia,
you know in the playoffs right now with the NFL
to me Game six of that was the best. Yeah,
that was insane, standing and wearing the black T shirt
that they gave out and was just like people were

in the game again, like they owe us something. I'll
always remember this one and I'll give a little credit
to uh Steph Loss who was one of our DJs
who've been here for a while. That was right when Uh,
I feel like Lebron had the Undertaker shirt in one
of the press and when we came out, he played
