Speaker 1 (00:10):
M HMS Banks mess Porrow facing down, give me that
phone down. Broadcasting live from Rocket Mortgage field House on
(00:34):
the sunny shores of beautiful Lake Erie, La Stevens, Calinta
in dressing. I mean you know, I think Stevens in
downtown Cleveland. You tuned in to Wine and Go Radio.
(00:57):
Have some that you're your host. Don't come off at
the wrong time and jo gime, hey everybody, and welcome
to Wine and Gold Radio. Are you going to interruption?
(01:19):
Does everybody does? Think everybody knows what you mean? I
don't know if they know what that means. It means hello,
I can't say hello. Hellot of languages. I am Joe,
g I am joined, of course, am I right by? Rade?
And Rapha is just home from Texas after a nice
(01:39):
split on the two game trip. And now the Calves
are home for six six longest homestand i'd be longest
home standard season. Wrapping around the Christmas holiday? Are you
all ready for Christmas? I know you're a big holiday fan.
I'm a big holiday. I'm a big Christmas Carols in July, guy,
you are, I'm not a Christmas I'm not like we
don't sell great holidays. That's like that. Yeah, you're like
(02:04):
a letted snow guy in in May. Yeah. Like Lily
and I don't give each other. We we like to
give each other presents in days that are not supposed
to be for presents supposed to like when everybody just does.
That's really nice. You know what I mean? Have you
we do? We do like kickids gonna be in town,
We're gonna go for dinner. We haven't dinner at the
at the Marble Room. Oh very nice. Okay, great, So
I haven't been a good father. I have good parents.
(02:26):
Or che's the brown Fancy's coming to coming to watch
the Christmas Eve game? Oh nice? Does your mom saying
you like, I know during Thanks and tomorrow the cat
all kinds of stuff. Yes, get all right tomorrow? Well
can I get in? I want to get yeah, man,
for sure. I want to get on that list. I
want to get on your mom's food list, and I
want to get in Lamar Stevens Today's guest. I want
(02:48):
to get on his grandma's text list. But you know
what list you need to get in. You need to
get on the Jim Chones Wine male list. You're right, idea,
that's the one that you want to be on. I
want to be I've had some of that already because
last holiday when I made that delivery to your house
someone that wine was from wine from Jones, from Jones Winary. Okay,
I still have some of that wine. Yeah, really, why
(03:10):
are you saving it? I don't know you didn't like it. No,
I liked it. I just I'm not a big wine drinker. Really,
I'll I'll drink it for this holiday. I remember you said,
I don't know if it was last year, but you
don't watch It's a Wonderful Life, right, I have never
watched it. You will watch it this year? Man in
black and White. Man, dude, that's the worst excuse ever.
(03:31):
It's the worst excuse ever. If I'd rather watch thy hard,
if I want to watch Christmas, Man, you gotta watch
It's a Wonderful Life. That's my homework assignment for you.
Will you do it? Come on, I'll try, but you'll
be crying. You'll have water work. There's no way in
the movie. No dogs, nobody guys in the movie. You're
gonna cry. You're gonna cry. Lily is gonna be holding you.
(03:51):
Lily Cry is on commercials. Lily Is gonna be holding you,
and Chap really gets upset because I didn't Cheek cries
on different things than get me emotional, Like I hate
the SPC a commercial that they show every commercial break
in the morning with the dogs in the snow. I
hate that commercial because it made me want to go
to rescue every single dog in the commercial. But you know,
(04:12):
I don't cry for I don't know it doesn't. Did
you cry when the Calves won in Dallasia to night?
Not in Dallas like I didn't cry in Oakland, but
it kind of kind of got choked up a little bit.
But you know, how do you feel about the win
in Dallasia? That I was amazing? I think it was great.
To man, I was crying that was gonna be home
at three in the morning. I was crying trying to
(04:35):
get ahold of the person in charge of scheduling and
put that game at a p m. Dallas time. Why
did for us, which had to travel to the East
coast side, lose an hour and arrive at three in
the morning for no reason that game was at AP
I was wondering that why would they do that? I
thought it was national TV. But like with the game
on at the field House. I understand it because the
(04:57):
Mavericks play Friday night and they we play then eight o'clock. Okay,
the next time I was a big although Joe Michael
and if you ask him, he wants every game to
be at eight o'clock because I mean his nap is
a little longer. Yeah, but what would you prefer if
they said we're going one way or the other, make
every game at eight, and make every game at six.
I would make every game at six o'clock. Need doing
a heartbeat, me too, Absolutely, you a heartbeat. I'll make
(05:20):
every game at six o'clock. I'll just my time, my my.
Everything would be great because there'll be no shoot around,
will be walked through arena, but you home by. It
would be can't argue with that. It would be the best,
would be the best. But actually on the floor, great game,
great win, because again they've had so much trouble on
the road and getting off to slow starts has been
(05:41):
such a curse of man. They jumped on Dallas right away.
That was nice. I spoke with JB on the way,
you know, after shoot around. JB is the first one
off the court, and he said, the boss is leaving.
First boss is leaving, and you know we're trying to
get on that boss. But in Dallas, I don't know
if you remember, there's a long walk up the ramp
to get to the bus. And I was talking to
him about, you know how I get lost her every year?
(06:03):
How how we go away from being the team that
had gotten everybody talking about, which is the team that
plays as a as a as a group that moved
the ball around. And then JB was saying, you know,
I'm trying to get this guy to understand that you
have to move the ball around because eventually you'll come
back to you if you're the one that needs to
shoot it right. But the human brain is trained to
(06:24):
take the superhero syndrome, and you know when when you're
getting beat up, you want to take oh you want
to go out and fight for you guys. But that
takes us out of our out of our more character. Yeah.
But also the human brain is is trained to learn
from mistakes and learn from lessons. So I think his
goal was and it was it was succeeded, it was accomplished,
was to come out from the get go and just
(06:46):
punch him in the gut and don't stop punching. And
because basketball is a game of runs, Dallas have the
you can avoid for any team to have their runs.
But when when when when people keep coming in and
out of the out of the thing, they're finally healthy
in a way to use his rotation the way he wants.
And you know, he takes Garland and Mobli out, and
he takes Mitchell and Allen. Now then he comes in
(07:07):
with LeVert and Mitchell or whatever the combination is. He
finally was able to run and we just stay. We
had issues with getting to a slow start. We have
issues with starting the second half, and we have problems
with sometimes when we're not making shot like in San
Antonio when Mitchell missed the dunk and then Garland following
but missing the scoop. Yeah, we always get those moments
(07:29):
when the other team is shooting and and it just
goes down to, you know, an eighteen point lead. It's
hard to get out of and we almost we almost
got out of it. I'm about to do something I
can't believe for the second time to share. I'm gonna
quote stand Van Gundy is making it is making a
great point. But he talked about how you know, they
talked about like, well, you know, this team came back
(07:51):
from eighteen down, and this team came back from seventeen down.
And he's like, really, that's not a thing because in
the NBA, like you said, runs so prova and that
sixteen seventeen points at any pointer in the game really
not that big of a deal. You don't want to
be down sixteen points. But you know, especially when the
other team as Luca, so the fact that they kept
(08:12):
you know, that they jumped on him and stayed at him,
that was was most impressive. You could tell that we
were in Like in San Antonio, I said that I happened.
You know, we're in this game. We just gotta have
to I always. You know, you how do you eat
an elephant right, one bite at a time? You got
you cannot You're not gonna hit the eighteen point bucket,
but you gotta keep chipping and way chipping and way
chipping away. It's harder because even if you're down eighteen
(08:33):
and you have an eight nothing run, they or team
hit the three, you're done again thirteen, you know, So
it's like it's a hard hole to get out of.
But when when it comes to starting again, Luca won
for eleven. We're shooting well. You have to take that
advantage and go up as much as the Cabs. When
when when especially the Mavericks, and don't have Luca having
(08:55):
a good night, you have to take that advantage because
if you let them hang around, you know, Luca is
gonna come back and do his thing, which he did
in the second half. Right. So I was happy to
see the response from the guys on the road after
a night that they had to hurt. You know, I
know we're not gonna lose win them all, but those
(09:17):
are that The game in San Antonio is one of
those games that you you could look back and say, man,
you know, we just came out a little yeah, like
like what's his name, Claude Fraser was a lack a daisicle.
And then the Dallas game gave you an ex respite
from from World Cup action, like we actually immerged in. Man. Actually,
(09:40):
the semifinals was Tuesday, and I watched it in the
in the during practice in that le's we flew after
San Antonio, thank god, and then I took a nap
on the second half of the Friends Morocco game. I
really didn't care who Argentina is gonna take whoever because
you've got You've got World Cup fever. Man, Yeah, man,
(10:00):
you do have, and you know who else has it.
I'll bet you're a soccer fan. Yeah, we went over
this last time, I know. But who are you rooting for?
Don't tell me France he roots for you. No, I'm
not as good as friends are. And as you know,
(10:23):
many of their players who I like like to watch,
I think I have to be cheering for Argentina just
because the whole one, the whole messy thing, and I
think would be really really cool to see him win
the World Cup, and because France won the World Cup
last time, so normally that but the fact that he'll
win in and then and then Ronaldo Ronaldo, he is
not gonna win anything, you know, Cristiano Ronaldo. We call
(10:44):
him penalto because most of his goals are from the
penalty kick. But he is like speaking of divas that
we can he the the I I was probably cheering
for Morocco to beat Portugal anyway, because I think it
was a really cool story here and and still is
a cool story. But the whole Ronaldo thing, in the
way it played out from their quarterfinal game until that
(11:06):
game or around a sixteen game until that game. You know,
Argentinians and Brazilians don't like each other when strictly because
of soccer. Has nothing to do with color raised this
rich morning. Nothing, it's soccer. And Brazil is the only
team that has made it to every World Cup. It's
a team that has one of the most World Cups.
But Argentina, you know, they have you know, Brazil has Pell,
(11:28):
Argentina has Maradona, now they have Messy. It's like to
three of the guys are coming into the conversation of
who's the best one of all time, which is one
of those questions that doesn't have a right answer, Like
if you watch Pell play, you will say Pelle. If
you saw Maridona play, you say Maradonna. But they don't
like each other. So coming down the plane in the
in San Antonio, I was talking with Houl and I said, man,
(11:50):
you know, I would love a Morocco Croatia game, so
it would be like a first time champion. He's answer
was like, I don't care who it is as long
as it's not argent You know, I have a question.
I have a question World Up question. The third place game. Yes,
they were talking, how guys that the teams take that
(12:11):
pretty seriously. Of course we have to do we have
to do with world ranking, have to do with bonuses.
There's a big chunk, a big difference between the third
place and the fourth place, and you know it's it's
another game to play. Massy by playing on Sunday will
be the guy with the most work up games played.
He would have broken the record anyway, who held by
lot of matteos from Germany. But you know, it means
(12:32):
a lot more to break it during the final than
in the third place game, so it means a lot.
It's not they had to try to do away with
it by what they did is they added the incentive
of the bonuses and the world ranking. Yeah, it would
seem like that be a tough game to get into, man,
But I mean they say that the guy is really
walk up, so a lot of the guys that haven't
played will probably see the see the field, so it
(12:54):
means a lot for everybody, Like the goalie would probably change.
And each team has three goalies and only one of
them played. Really, so yeah, I mean again, I'm such
a gringo when it comes to the World Cup that
I'm I'm learning all this, but you'll get you better
get ready because it's coming next next time here and
put it only six where they said North Mexico, US
and Canada. So but where's the where will the World
(13:15):
Cup be played in the three countries they're going to have?
I think on Mexico has Mexico would probably be the
opening ceremony. Three cities that are hosting games. I think
Canada has two in the US has six. Yeah, like US,
Canada has about the championship, it's probably gonna be y
that's fire or I would I would play the Cowboy
(13:36):
Stadium because it's better. Yeah, it's bigger, it's like the
big screen and what. I've never been to Southwa, so
I don't know. But but in terms of like getting there,
I know people had a hard time going to the
super Bowl because there's only one way in and one
way out than Cowboy Stadium. I think it's a lot
better than in Cowboy Stadium. That's not retractable roof or
is it it has a half a rule because remember
(13:58):
didn't have a Super Bowl one year where it was
freezing cold. Yeah, the last super Bowl I did was
it's no, in Dallas. In Dallas now at the same
time where they have those two seats that they when
fireproof firemen approved the fire department ever approved them to
All these people showed up to the to the Super
Bowl between the Package and the Steelers, and there was
like whole sections in black and they brought them down
(14:20):
and they had to watch the game in some tunnels
from off a screen, and they were offering them tickets,
but they were like, you know, people from Pittsburgh, they
don't want tickets to the next year's Super Bowl if
the Steelers are not gonna be in it. That's what
they get for being Steelers fans. Amen. Hey Michael, you
get some news round league. Yeah, we'll stick to We
just talked about cups, so we'll stick Um, We'll talk
(14:42):
another sport real quick. Our neighbors not made the you know,
maybe not made the biggest splash in free agency, but
the Guardians going out and signing d H first baseman
Josh Bell. Yeah, that's pretty uh Yankee signed rolled on. Yeah,
that's I was gonna bring that up. But since you
did probably the third best picture on the market probably
(15:02):
and now they have it's a good rotation. Then we
get to the Yankees. The guy who's sitting there right
by the way, speaking of guard, you know who? You
know who? I hang out with the Cowboys Big game
with Sandy Alomar. He texted me, He goes, I'm coming
to the game. I'm like, Oh, we hang out a
little bit of pregame. So you like Bell coming out?
(15:24):
I I do. I think it's I think it's kind
of they're gonna be split in time. I guess d
H on the first base. Yeah, that's the biggest thing
now with baby rocking guy. What's Naylor? Naylor with the Yankees.
Baby Yeah, But I think I think it overall good signing. Again,
whether it's whether it's platoon, uh you know, in general
(15:47):
for first base teach, former All Star, former Silver slugger,
but guy who hits left handed pitching pretty well, which
Naylor is struggled with him. We saw this season. So
I think, again, a pretty pretty solid signing. And we're
about a hundred days from uh. Yeah, they have their water.
They have a gathering. I forget what it's called the garden. Yeah,
(16:10):
they have it coming up in Denuary, so that's always
it's almost here. And I also saw they signed the
catcher and another another signed Mike Zannino later Tampa. Very
very limited last year in games. I think he was injured,
but the year before he was. I mean, I I
think like there's no is fun is Austin Hedges is
(16:30):
at times and is good of a defensive catcher. They
had an old school type, yeah catcher, Yeah, clubhouse guy,
but but really a black hole to play between him
and Yeah you can't Haley, who's since resigned somewhere else.
But I mean when you have, you know, a catcher
position that's you know, probably gonna be filled by bow Naylor,
Josh's brother, very you know, highly regarded prospect in the
(16:52):
Guards farm system. So I don't know, I'm interested to
see who starts with the catching position to opening day.
You can't have guys under at certain points the tribe
at two guys under the Mendoza line. Last year, you
can't have that, can't you know? So you know these
days when everybody and they were, they were, they played
the same position to yeah, And the problem I see
(17:14):
with that is not only onder the Mendoza online that
they don't do anything with the bat right right. They
don't get on bait. They don't bond, they don't run,
they don't. I mean it's just okay, great they've managed
the pitching staff and everything. But nowadays, in this in
these worlds baseball, you gotta yeah, not enough. I don't
know if you gotta hit a little bit man, you know,
at least our body what's his name, babel bit is
(17:34):
he he always had a knack for having those laid
in his homers. And yeah, you know he didn't bat forever,
but he whenever you needed a hit. Yeah, he wasn't
an automatic. He had much. He always had big, big
hits and late innings, but he wasn't I mean, it
wasn't the average hitter. But he wasn't a normomatic out right,
which yeh, Hedge's I mean he's a fun guy and
(17:56):
he probably manages, but the automatic out and yeah, and
have it. So one more kind of bigger talking point
than I got. I got two quick things for you guys.
The first one we'll talk well. The bigger one again
is we'll talk uh NB a little bit. I know
we did a little bit last last episode with some surprises.
But you're about a third of way season, third of
(18:18):
the way through the season. Is there any I don't
know kind of surprises to you guys, like how well
New Orleans is playing or why they're playing so well.
Do you have any idea who's going to like come
out of the East as there's like Boston and Milwaukee
are just going win for win with each other right now,
it seems, I think, after after Milwaukee just got blown
out last year. My biggest surprise in the East is
(18:41):
the team we're playing this weekend, Indiana. Man, think, yes,
they do in the East. I can probably see that, Yeah,
because nobody was talking about them like a couple of
years ago. Maybe I think there's more batchelor practice than good.
It depends how do you want to want to play
the other side. Miami's playing like that, but like Charlotte
(19:03):
and and Chicago with injuries has barely played. I know,
but I'm saying either way, man, the Pacers have been steady.
I mean they're what do you like? How do you
what do you think of that rookie? Remember when we
remember what he said when the bron came to town.
He said, like the bron is not better than me.
He's gonna have to through me if he wants whatever
his name is is there is there speaking a man.
(19:26):
Has there ever been a guy in NBA history to
win Rookie of the Year and six Man of the
Year in the same season. I don't know, but he's
he's in line. He I mean, he got the attitude,
he's got one of the things he's gonna learn too,
the bear. But but like I did to be honest,
like you know, because last year they went into the
year with it with expectations and flopped. And this year
(19:50):
the trade they made their trade. And I think this
year they went in with low expectations and are you know,
I mean they're ahead of the bulls and are in
the And I don't know if we consider a surprise
because everybody expected us to to do well, especially after
the after the laur Anna coming to town and stuff.
But I'm impressed with what Boston has been able to
(20:11):
do with the old changes in the coaching staff, not
only the suspension, but and then the fact that he
was leaving. They thought that he was just when we
were in town they announced that he was going to
he was going away. Well, wasn't there going to be
a coaching change right away there in in uh Brooklyn?
That didn't happen. Yeah, that's what I mean. But that's
(20:31):
when they announced it. They had announced that he was
going there and and and the player was like, wait
a minute, I thought he was only suspended and then sudden,
So they have been done there. I think for them
to be where they are it got to be a
good surprise. I think they isn't quite open anyway. Once
it comes to the playoff. Obviously they have the upper
hand because they have the experience, you know, having been
(20:51):
to the final, the reigning conference champions. But we still
got to see how embeat and Harder are gonna end up.
How long are they gonna end up playing together? Then
the nets man little by little quietly there right behind us.
Ever since you know, they made the coaching change, and
then and then once everything with Kyrie the dust settling
quote unquote, like you know, and it's just basketball ones.
(21:13):
I started going back to just playing basketball, even even
though remember Durant made up comment by what are you who?
I'm playing with? An angel? Then by name, and though
I was like, oh my god, I don't know. I
don't know where this is going, but again that you
don't know how long that's gonna last. I gotta. I don't.
I don't. I don't really like Boston, especially the Celtics.
But I got a little a little plug. Is Joe
(21:35):
Mazool You know he went to school. Is he a mountaineer?
He's a mountaineer. Are your mountaineers in a Bowl game? No,
that's sad, That's okay. Um, So to two other quick
things for you. All Star voting starts next Tuesday, so
you gotta go out, go, go out, start voting. There's
a couple of double vote days, a couple of triple
(21:55):
vote days I think this year. But you can only
vote on the NBA app and uh NBA dot com
I think, and you need like some log in or
I D or something so that. Do you think there's
going to bring down the number of voters. I don't
know if they are limited on how many people can
vote the but no, I don't think there's like a
limit per se. But like last year and years prior,
make sense for me instead of make it easier. Yeah,
(22:17):
I know, you could just hit the hit the retweet
button like the we are code it is, but now
you need you know, some sort of I D in
the barrier. I don't know about that. Another step. But
before you take job yet, you talk about I know
you don't do dislike for the for the man in green.
You know Larry Bird his jersey number a few weeks ago.
I'm sure you were watching all the hi you were
(22:39):
watching all the highlights of his sixty six birthday, probably
the best number three in the history of the league.
I don't care about I don't like that. I care
about the Celtics. I don't like them. Yeah, yeah, I
grew up a Celtics fan. I never had that, and
I went to school there when you grew up a
Celtics fans because you grew up in New York, right, No, no, no,
(23:00):
I went to school in Boston during the during the eighties,
you know when when when the original Big Three was there.
I don't like the year a Celtics fan and a Yank. Yeah,
that doesn't. That doesn't in a Michigan fan. Yeah, that's
just what's wrong with that. Well, because that's what happened
when you're not from this country. Man, you came in
and picked all the wrong But everybody says I'm a
Yankee fan because they win all the time. Let me
(23:22):
let me just tell you. I became a Yankee fan
after they got swept by the the Big Red Machine
in nineteen seventies six, and then they won in seventy seven,
and then they didn't win again until ninety six. It
was not ninety six when when when when Jeter came,
you know, in rookie years, and then I became a
fan of the Sakis. Change. Wait a minute, they didn't
(23:44):
win again till late nine six from from seventy eight
they went, they went to the Series in eighty one,
they lost to the to the Dodgers, and they win.
They didn't win again. Remember you win the year Reggie Jackson.
They won in seventy eight with Regg actual when I
hit those three homers of the Dodgers. So that washing
that was after the Big Red Machine. Yeah, that's what
(24:05):
I mean. But I I my first ever World serious
was when Sparky Anderson was leading you know, journey bench.
And I don't know how I didn't become a Reds
fan because I remembered all those players, you know, Joe Morgan,
your Foster and all those big you know. But I
became a Yankee fan when they got sweat because I
fell in love with the good old man from Canton,
Ohio term my monster months. Okay, I didn't know what
(24:27):
baseball was, but I admire how hard he played, and
he was like crawling back to pick up his health,
his mask, and I was like, it's got to be
a good sport. But then again, they didn't win again
until nineties six, so it's not like the Jets. They
like they won the Super Bowl when I was two
years old, and then yeah, and then yeah, and I
fell in love with the sack exchange Gastino and Clicko
(24:49):
until Bernie nacked him out and then I don't want
to hear every time. One of the things that when
I came to Cleveland, everybody talks about the heartbreak of
the drive, Like the week before that, I don't know
if he was to I was the fumble, but the
week before that, the brown broke the heart of the
month of New York. When when when that that really
week penalty on the late hit by Gastino on Browney
(25:10):
closure Because the Browns had a legitimate shot to go
to the Super Bowl, but those Jets never did. Man,
those Jets were sorry they were, but they were The
sack has change, Yeah, I know, But Daniel Bryan and
Al Tuon and who's the redding back Freeman McNeil. Yeah.
The only thing we have bad with the Joe Walton
and the head coaching. I'm sorry you can't continue with
(25:35):
the hijacks. The last thing, uh is A just want
to say a and I see you later and give
a shout out to Madison Curly. That's right, Madison Curly
is taking a taking a new position to be closer
to home. She'll still be in the NBA circles with
the with the l A Clippers, but her last day
(25:57):
is she's about to find the difference in coastal living
between Cleveland, Ohio and Los Angeles, California. I hope you
saved up look for roommates. M gold Man, thank you
so much for bringing us some news around the league's
winning the finals. Oh woke up? Yea? Who went the
(26:21):
golden boot tie? You know and Messy each have five
gold and Juli is right behind it. But doesn't Messy
isn't he leading because he has like three assists? Yeah,
but it doesn't matter. Somebody's one of those two is
gonna are going to score on Yeah, I went some
credit for knowing that I wanted to. I don't want
no type breaker. Yeah, I think it'll be entertaining. I
(26:42):
hope it will be entertaining. I think would be a
good game because that's not going to be a defensive
and the best player currently I think it's the best
player right now to teammates are past year. Yeah, I
think I think that's the best player right now. When
he scored those goals and me and I said, there's
a new sheriff in town. Forget about Ronaldo, forgot about neighbor, I,
forget about Messi and Bob, it's the best player. But yeah,
but he's definitely like, is there any chance the game
(27:04):
will be eight seven? Now? It might be like a
three one three to last time they play was for
three for three? Right? Or come on, what else you
gonna be doing on a Sunday morning at ten am?
Is there grounds are not plane because they played tomorrow.
They're like an NFL game and you're gonna do something now.
You can't excuse you cannot tell me that you're gonna
(27:24):
be watching American football when you can watch the final
of the football. It's gonna be over before what o'clock
even rolls around. No, it's a two pm gameclock in
the morning end. Really, why is that? I don't know, Yes,
the morning. A good thing is that we have a
never That was the first time in my life that
I have not care about playing back to back nights
(27:44):
because Sundays off and we're not traveling, and I'm gonna
be gonna curl up on the couch the world I'm
standing up the whole game. Something I just I thought of,
just well, listen to you guys talk earlier and you
just mentioned traveling. Now is would you rather, like you said,
you at home at three or four in the morning,
you have a night from Dallas. Would you rather stay
in Dallas and leave Dallas at like nine or ten
(28:05):
the next morning? You would rather get home, especially especially
when we're going to another city. I'd rather leave that
night because then, you know, we practice that many time
we get to the to the other cities like six pm,
five pm, and it's like, I'd rather wake up that
we got we got two dallars at three in the morning.
You know, I got to get to the gym when
they see at seven thirty, and then we hadn't practiced
(28:26):
at noon, So it was like I'd rather do that
and then take a long nap or whatever. But as
I get to get on the plane and get my breakfast,
Peanut but Ange on the sands, Yeah that they take
care of you. Yeah that I'd save that per d M.
You gotta you gotta counter days you're gonna be away
from the plane and then multiplay that by by by
Peanut Butter and understand. But m Gold, thanks for joining us.
(28:51):
Ill Ugh, how you're gonna stick around and we will
talk with the big Dog and the next our Stevens
we're gonna go. We're gonna do like a little job
interview because he's going to be our field correspondent, k
and so we gotta talk to We've gotta talk to
him about that and we will be right back on
Wine and Gold Radio. Wine and Gold Radio. Hey, it's Mondog,
(29:13):
your favorite Cavalier puppet mascot and global icon. As a rule,
I never say that. I never say never. But that said,
I never ever listen to Wine and Gold Radio. There's
more of this after this on Wine and Gold Radio. Vibration.
(29:40):
We get vibration vibrations. Hey there, this is dirty Kurt,
and I gotta be honest with you. I never listened
to Wine and Gold Radio. But I hear it's awesome.
(30:17):
Now back to Wine and Radio. Okay, everybody, welcome back
to segment to of Wine and Gold Radio. Wine and
Gold Radio, as promise, We're here with the Big Dog,
Lamar Stevens, the main Dog, top Dog. What is what's
what do they call you? Top Dog? Nain Dog, big Dog,
(30:38):
the dog, the dog he Lamar Stevens Lamar. This is
your second parents on Wine and Gold Radio. Thank you
for coming on. We were thinking like if we can
get in the budget, like to get you guys, like
a like for your second name, like a sport code
or like a fruit basket or something, or like a
red lobster gets to tape guys. Anyway, so you can
hear by the background that we are at shoot around.
(31:00):
We're actually doing this after shoot around. I have a
question for you about shoot around. Is it indicative of
how you play that night? The shoot around do anything
for you guys, I think for sure, I mean just
preparation for the game, you know, getting your mind right
and uh, you know executing the game, playing that coach,
the coach, punting police and all the whole coaching staff
(31:21):
plating place. So I think it definitely is a is
a good reflection of the game. You know, how focused
we are and shoot around and how locked in we are.
So they say you you practice how you played you particularly,
is that true? I mean, if you have a good practice,
if you have a good shoot around, you play well
that night. Or if you're having good practices that week,
you play well that week. I used to be that way. Um,
(31:42):
you know, if you're missing shots at you know, now
forty five am. I think I've kind of matured in
that way and i'd rather than you know, I've kind
of shifted my mind loud. I want to make shots
at seven anyway. So um, yeah, I mean I used
to be that way, but I kind of grew up
out of that. But I still try to come and
locked in, coming early and get shots, you know, just
to prepare myself for the game. So um, it's definitely
(32:05):
a big opponent for me and just you know, trying
to stay ready and you know, keeping my mind and
my body and my game. Shot. Now, what's that being said?
Lamar um, what's the what's the general consensus amongst players
about shooting? No shoot around? Shoot around? I mean, we
like getting up in the morning, especially on the road,
nine am bars and can we do without it? Man?
We we kind of have a good record when we
(32:27):
don't have shoot around, you know. Yeah. I mean, uh,
I think guys, if you ask guys sleep or get up,
I think, uh, most guys are going to choose going
to sleep. I'm gonna I'm gonna quote C. J. Miles,
who once said the greatest invention of all time yoga pants,
worst invention of all time around, it's the worst. Man.
(32:48):
I'm trying to That's what I'm trying to get to.
I don't mind it at home. On the road, it's
kind of hard for me, you know, because I have
to you have to make it to the boss. You
have you know. It's like a timing thing for sure. Um.
I mean I think it's it's tough for us sometimes
both ways. Uh. You know, we don't spend that. We
don't get as many days home in our beds. Yeah,
(33:08):
we try to, you know, get as much time as
we can. You do you still do weights before shoot
around or after you do weights at all? I do
do weights. I get a lifting before the game, okay before.
Some people used to get it in the morning. Yeah, Um,
some people do. Yeah, some people get after the game.
I mean it varies for everybody, so but I know
for me, I'd like to get in before a game,
(33:30):
just get all my muscles working right. So you we talked.
I did a written piece with you, and thank you
again for being so generous with your time. You really
are um. But we talked about your record as a
starter and now in your career you're sixteen. Yeah, fifteen
and seven, which is tremendous. You could win, you could
(33:51):
win the younger work. That's great. So it doesn't matter.
You say it doesn't matter to guys, But it doesn't matter.
I mean, like tonight, you know you're going into the game.
I assume you know you're going into the game as
a starter. Yeah, yeah, I mean it definitely matters, you know,
because that's really the only thing that matters to me.
That you know, the wins, you know, wins and losses.
(34:13):
You know, if I'm playing and playing a lot of minutes, Uh,
that's the most important thing for me. So if we're
piling up those wins and you know I'm able to
have some type of impact on that, you know, that's
definitely a great feeling for me. And then do you
lack in an individual that you're going against that night,
or do you not really think about that, like they're
you thinking about the actual player you're gonna go go
(34:34):
up against. Um yeah, I mean I think about my
matchup and watch film, you know, depending on really who
it is. Sometimes, Um how focused I am, like, you know,
for Lebron versus somebody. Yeah, but uh yeah, I mean
but I played so many different positions, so it's like
I kind of gotta just I just like to watch
games really, um, just you know, pick up on tendencies.
(34:57):
And you know, I pay attention when we go through
scout to all the eyes because I know, you know,
somebody gets hot, coach could throw me on him and
you know, try to get him slow down. So I
want to be prepared for you know, top to bottom.
All right, let's talk about the important things here. Forget
about their basketball exactly. What's grind my doing? Man? When
we're gonna meet her back the biggest starting cleaning and
everyone I'm meeting man. Yeah, she'll be out here for
(35:19):
Christmas for like five days. I think, please please let
me allow me to meet her man to hopefully we
can set that up. Yeah, she still texts you after
every game every day, every game, every day, every morning.
I want to get him the text list. I want
to I want to text after every game. He told
(35:39):
if I read a good article, and yeah, yeah, for sure,
I'll let him know about that. Alright, so we know
he's breast of time with time here that I have
important questions that I have to get to. Okay, what
should I go? Ahead? So the dog chain, that the
Junkyard dog chain that's been a big thing. You kind
of are the godfather of that. Who decides on who
gets it? JB? J B? Yeah, it's kind of like, Okay,
(36:02):
that's what I thought. It's kind of a that's like
a dictatorship. I mean, doesn't it. Well, I'm just saying,
shouldn't that be more democratic? Thing? But the other day
and the other day in l A there was like
like a Coola time they gave it to JB and
he couldn't find it find Okay, So democratic, okay, Okay,
I just want to like if it just seems like
if JB, you know what I mean, Like it's just
(36:25):
it's kind of a one thing. Okay. Yeah. I like
the fact that he, I mean, the coaching staff, if
they wanted to staff I think they talked about it
before beforehand, come up with it together. Yeah, I was glad.
I was glad what mommy wanted that was kind of money,
he didn't. The last were kind of forever. And then
then the Okay, I'm gonna ask you one more question
(36:45):
if I can um every postgame media availability, guys are
asking this is whant to go radio now? So nobody's listening.
You can go ahead. You can be honest that we're
all friends here. Uh. After every game we we ask
for a defensive three seconds, everybody on the bench goes
nuts to celebrate, right, And every time we ask you guys,
(37:08):
you guys always get this like a little smile on
your face. And JV j B said there's an incentive,
but he won't say what it is. And then when
we ask you guys, you guys kind of smile but
you won't say. Are you allowed to say what it is? Um?
I think I'm allowed to say, but you know, and
I'm trying to keep it a secret. I guess I'm
gonna just follow suit and smile and we must be
(37:31):
what is it we get? But I mean, guys go
nuts when you get a three second and it's like
and every time we ask you guys post game, you
get you do the same. You give me the nice
no comment? What is with that? What is it? Is
it monetary? Give the day off? I mean, I'll just say,
you know, we got two of the best room protectives
in the league. We want them to pay. Okay, yeah, yeah, okay,
(37:51):
I see where I say where? Okay, because I know
I know Ary one of the ones that claps, he
goes crazy. All right, So before we let you go,
and we know your pressed for time, you agreed. Now
we're putting you on the spot here because it's like
an interview, interview and like a job and interview that
you would be our field correspondent for Wine and Gold Radio,
(38:12):
and that you would do one on one interviews with
other players, stuff that they won't give us. They'll probably
tell you. They'll tell you all about what they get
for the three second defense. They'll tell you all about
that you guys won't tell us. So we're hoping to
have you this year as our field correspondent and hopefully
you're you're up for that, No, for sure, excited about that.
(38:33):
We need the inside school man. You're gonna be the insider,
you know, you're gonna be getting on the black listeners
and the gas, right, guys, don't tell us, I'll tell
you everything. Yeah, that's gonna be fun. I'm excited about that. Excellent.
We decided who's gonna be your first you first started.
I haven't decided yet. Probably gonna be between Jerry K
(38:58):
love d g Or all right, and he gets a
listers too. Yeah, you know what, I've been calling him
Laura Mitchell right, the spider, but I was thinking maybe
more like a Parno, you know, the guyfather. He's being
the dawn. You know. I don't know. I don't know
which one's gonna stick more like like both of them. Yeah,
(39:20):
I think Lamar is more. Yeah, he's one of the
guy fathers. There you go. Hey, Lamar Stevens, thank you
so much for joining us. Uh and next time you
are on Winning Radio you'll be running the show. Yeah,
I'm this will be good, Lamar, thank you. There's more
(39:56):

(41:57):
and I have never and will never us in the
Wine and Goal Radio. Now back to Wine and Go Radio.
Hey everybody, and welcome back to segment three, final segment
of Wine and Goal Radio. Wine and Goal Radio, this
(42:19):
is our recording. Well this week, we well last week,
let's just be honest, we had some we had some
technical difficulties with our guests. I screwed up. No, you
didn't know. We we screwed up. It's a team. We
take our we lose. As a team, we winage me.
But we welcome our guests. Jake Kemp from the Ticket
(42:40):
in Dallas halftime show, a specialist halftime show. Yeah, so
basically we're gonna talk. We're gonna talk a little Dallas
Mavericks just under the pretense so we can talk some
halftime X and actually we have some cool half time
X this weekend that Jay can comment on because I
know he knows about him. Jake, Hey, welcome to the
show Man. Thank you, thanks having me, Fellas, thanks for
joining us, Thanks for providing that significant beat down on
(43:05):
Wednesday night where it became very clear that the seventh
best player for the Calves could start for Dallas and
probably be their second best players. So I gotta tell
you that Jason Kidd try with all those changes a
halftime and my my comment on air was Christian Wood
can keep shooting threes all he wants, it's get him
(43:29):
out of the paint. I think. I think the kid
is so good when he's in the paint and he's aggressive.
But then they, I don't know, we played really well
done and Christian Wood is like their second best hate
say he's kind of their second best player right now?
I think yeah, I mean as far as being a
guy who could create his own shot and can shoot
from three on a decent night. But the problem is
(43:49):
that the debate over who's their second best player is
not just because they have so many good options. It's
because they don't have any, so and you can tell
how bad it can be on enough night for for Luke,
even though he ended up with his average, the first
half was a really rough one for him. And you
can tell that the way Dallas he's gonna go when
when Luca is not on, Yeah, Luca not being on,
(44:11):
Maxi cleb is out now for could be a month
and a half, it could be the season they are.
They are in dire straits. And I mean, you guys
saw it up close. Uh, the Luca frustration level is
is absolutely climbing. Um. And it's you know, the last
thing I'll say about the team before we talk about
how the Bucket Boys suck is just you know, I
(44:32):
said that this to you guys the other day, and
it does remind me a lot of like the two
thousand and eight Calves, where you just know in the
background of the whole thing is they've got to get better.
He's not going to be here, even though you know,
technically he signed up for three or four more years.
You could ask for a trade in your three They've
they've got another swing for the fences moving them. Uh,
(44:53):
but that's probably about it. And you saw the frustration
the other night. And when he gets when he gets
frustrated and not not just frustrated with the refs, it
becomes very very difficult. And and when they have I mean,
but the other thing too, is you're playing a team
with two seven footers in the Mavericks don't really have
a center. So but man, that the Cads are good.
I don't know what else to say there. They're a
(45:15):
good offensive team and an absolutely elite defensive team. One
more team before we go and change up. Just here.
Have you ever seen that team owner? And then this
chorus stable about about a replay review, you're the right
person to beenalized, like I've seen it. That is I
seen it funny. That is odd. I mean, you can't
(45:36):
and you can't blame Luca like I'm watching him and
you know, I mean, I hope he doesn't come across
as like a diva if he is dissatisfied. But I mean,
the guy is putting up like massive numbers to you know,
massive minutes, minutes, and like I think he wound up
with thirty nine and nine I think or something close
to that on Wednesday night, and you lose by you know,
when you put up those numbers and you lose by
(45:58):
fifteen in the game, you're never really in. Anyone would
be frustrated with that. Anyone would be I don't think
he's a diva at all. I think he's a sore loser.
But I think he's a He's a major, major competitive
a hole. But from everybody I know that works for
the MAVs or has been around him, I don't think
he's a diva at all. I just think he's a
guy who knows that he's doing his part, and the
(46:20):
front office thus far has not done There's He's still
played for real, so he does how a little sea
any rot about that rap has been going on, and
he's been at his World Cup kick for like I mean,
it's been thanks for saving us and talking a little basketball. Hey,
before we even before we even moved at a halftime thing,
I got to talk about it. I have to ask
you about a rumor that I heard you are on
(46:40):
the Ticket, which is a great station. If anybody's listening
out there, Man, the Ticket in Dallas is fantastic. It's hilarious.
My favorite is that line four guy. I love that dude.
But I heard that last week you guys had a
monkey in the studio Is that true? Now? That was
part of what we call a white Elephant Day where
we all switch up our lineups on to the final
day of the year for everybody being here together. And yeah,
(47:04):
we had There was a little monkey in a little
Cowboys jersey and he made the Cowboys Texas pick for
a couple of guys by simply putting his hand down
and decided which one he was gonna pick. We have
a board op he's exactly a hundred and thirty five pounds.
He's six ft tall and he weighs a hundred thirty
(47:24):
five pounds, which is like a standard bench press, you know,
one play on each side. So we all took turns
trying to bench press our board. Uh so, yeah. It
was when I heard that, I thought, man, that's one day.
That's I mean, we have El Muchacho Dado, who's awesome,
But wouldn't it be great to have a helper monkey
in the in the want to Go radio? I thought, man,
(47:46):
that'd be kind of good. Really, really, you can rent them,
you can't. Monkey. That opens the door for for trouble.
When I was when I was within my previous life,
I was. I was a beer salesman and my how
was this gonna come back to monkeys? My stunt made
it to the New York Times, but I was suspended
because for for for St. Patrick's Day celebration, I have
(48:08):
dwarf bowling imed New York City. It's a different time. Yeah,
that's like Wolf of Wall Street kind of stuff. Can't
be doing that stuff? Yeah no, So, Uh, Jake, you
covered I think the Mavericks, I think he said for
several years. So you are inficionado on halftime Max and uh,
(48:31):
just like we are we and we love talking halftime
X before I even ask you about halftime? Do the
man still have the the overweight gentleman who dance what
were they call the MAV's maniacs. He haves maniacs, Yes,
yes they do, they do so of course. Uh due
to some developments, Uh, they became public regarding the workplace
culture of the team. The actual MAVs dancers are not
(48:55):
the same anymore. That's probably happened to most teams, right
like they have male female the outfits are a little
bit different. But the MAVs maniacs are still fully okay
apparently to be subjected to to body shaming because they
danced at half shirts. And I'll tell you our mutual
friend Dan McDowell, who I did the show with, he
(49:16):
was trained with the MAVs maniacs uh for. He performed
at halftime or you know, at the time out with them,
and I think he had to practice two or three
times a week for like two or three months. I
mean it is serious. I mean they're big guys. I
have dinner with two of them when we were there
last week, and they have been wait what the media
said at the media dyning. Okay, they were sitting there
(49:38):
and he was kind of interesting. I always said with
people I don't know, even even here at home where
we don't have a dining room anymore. So, but when
I go to my concession stand with my with my voucher,
I said, with people I don't know, but they told
me they've been to China. They've been to three time
(49:58):
All Stars. I mean that one years. I think they've
been running yeah, I mean yeah, and I've seen the
video of Dan practicing. I mean it was some serious time. Yeah,
they're not just out there messing around. I mean, for
big dudes, they are moving very very well. But they
are definitely still in the mix. Did you have to
give anyone in either of them the Heimlich maneuver? No,
(50:19):
Ralph has had to do that in the media room,
because that's that's a whole another story. We gotta talk.
We gotta because I know you're you have prior engagement,
so we have to talk halftime acts. And one of
the one of our favorites is I believe on Friday
Night is uh Simon says, with the mascots, which is
kind of really cool too that way he has kids
(50:39):
with him though, kids, yeah, with him sending kids crying
to the But Steve Simon says, with Steve Max, what
are your thoughts on him? Simon says, is probably my
all time favorite. Um, you know, the thing I loved
about the halftime shows was, as you guys know, it
can get a bit monotonous. I mean, you are an
NBA game, which you should be appreciative of, but you
know you're tired, You've been at work all day, and
(51:01):
then you know you're doing three games a week and
you're just kind of like, especially for me, my five
or six years kind of spanned the down years for
the Mavericks, Like I got I think one year of
Luca maybe two. Um, so they sucked. They were winning
twenty two games a year. They were they were awful.
And so for me, the only highlight of the night
(51:21):
was the halftime show because it was different every time,
and I thought, well, this is at least something to
sit here and enjoy. And Simon says it is great. Um,
he's you know, he kind of comes off well, you
probably have to kind of come off like a tool
to be Simon said, that's kind of part of the bit.
If he's nice, a bit doesn't work. And so I
always just respected that. You know, he gets kids out there,
(51:43):
and the kid's parents are in the crowd, and if
a kid messes up, he'll just roast him, like out
of here. You should have paid better attention school. But
your parents bet your parents aren't proud of you. You
ain't win for nothing. They yeah, you gotta earn it,
you gotta really earn it. With him, I love it.
And the other thing too, is one time I saw
we have a deal here in Dallas called Teats for
(52:04):
Soldiers where all the season ticket holders who occupied like
the first two or three rows give up their tickets
for veterans and a lot of times you'll have like
you'll have like wounded warriors, you'll have veterans who were injured.
And so the two funny things about Teats for Soldiers Night,
Welle the Mavericks have two mascots. They have maps Man
and they have champ Um, And they would put champ
(52:27):
who's a horse, uh in fatigues and he would like
dress up in like you know, desert fatigues and salute
the flag and sold the soldiers, which is always hilarious
to me because he's a cartoon horse. But the second
thing is Simon says was there on a Seats for
Soldiers Night, And you might think he was taking it
easy because it was a bunch of veterans and wounded
(52:48):
warriors out there. He was not. He was not taking
it easy at all. He wouldn't just as hard at
them as he does at nine year olds. And it
was it was it was a choice. I'll tell you
that before we go to the next one. I know
you mentioned it's a little of it. I always always
gets me because my corner is right behind one of
the baskets, right and every time the national anthem starts,
(53:09):
it always gets me that everybody's looking at me. This
is the only arena where people actually turn to look
at the flag. But I think that's pretty cool, very
text us, but very cool. Yeah, yeah, that is really cool.
I said, right behind where you would sit for those games.
So I always thought that was weird too. I'm like,
do I turn right around? But it's like, you know,
there is a there is a flag in the in
(53:30):
the screen in the in the big screen it center corn,
So I'm looking at that one. But then I feel
kind of add everybody looking looking at you. Yeah, so
I have to turn around. But it was like I
don't ever know if I have to turn all the
way out and give my back to them or like
them or something. Yeah, I feel like you feel like
the presidents. Yeah. Now we're gonna talk about Raphah's buddy,
(53:52):
Rapha's close friend. Actually they're both his close friend, Christian
and Scooby and Percy. And there's three of them. There's
Free who's Percy school. Percy is the one that is
actually performed and now because Scooby is retired, but but
he has kept the name of Christian and Scooby Percy
because he's a big he's a big Vikings fan, so
(54:12):
he named him after after the wide receiver. So Scooby
just sits home and collects check who's just collecting the checks?
And now is and now is my low Milow is
the one that dunks it. He comes out and that's
like a spinning three sixty and stuff. But I think
that is my faith that my I'm biased, obviously, but
anything that has has animals and it agreed, I mean,
I mean, I'm I'll approve of it no matter what
(54:34):
they do. Agreed. I'm a big fan of that one because,
you know, even separately, the two elements of that halftime
show would be good on their own because the handstand
on four chairs that Christian is doing already impressive. You know,
the uh the one handed handstand push up already impressive.
Separate if you had like the dogs what are they called,
(54:55):
the olte or ye dogs? Yeah, that was awesome. The
one do jump rope and ye yeah those are great too.
But it's like Christian and Scooby. It's almost like a
melding of the two best things in UH in halftime shows,
which is one man I think that guy could break
his neck and two dogs. What if we just had
(55:16):
both of them in one show. You know, he went
to Germany got talent or something, and you know how
he does at the beginning, he does a handstand, but
he's on top of like six little cubes and he
dropped the cube sideways and he fell on the show
and landed with the thing you can really hurt yourself. Yeah,
you totally could. And then which is what makes it
a great show. Yeah, right, and that that's always good
(55:37):
when we always we have to say about how he
said he's sit he sat next to you the second
half of what he's an aspiring broadcaster. He has a
podcast it's all unnecessary roughness and a big, big football fan.
And you know, so the second half of games, here's
Christian like when it this before I knew? All of
a sudden, I'm like, and again, Ralph, this is the
(56:00):
of thing that Rafa does. All of a sudden, I'm like, man,
the halftime act is sitting next to Rafa, like, how
is it? You know? And he's like, my buddy, yeah,
he was white fans and I was like, what's going
on here? Man? So speaking of guys that might injure themselves,
the amazing Slotic who the the older gentleman who mounts
(56:23):
the chairs and cical he should. He will be early
at the top of my list if he added a
little slip every now and then, even if he just
with the second chair and he lands on his feet,
but you know, just to make everybody feel more worry
about him that he's going to fall from, like stacking
all those chairs, because that's the only thing that people
are watching that for are for the chance that he
(56:46):
could wipe out? Right, Yeah, no, no, he rob's right,
because yeah, if you did it at a lower level
to where you you could at least ensure that you're
not getting superhurb but people know it could happen. It's
basically like no one would watch NASCAR if there had
never been a correct There needs to at least be
an element there that this could go poorly. Um, And
that's those are usually my favorite ones. I always keep
(57:09):
Christian tips, Like I told him to add and change.
That's why the dog comes inside the boom box and
then it opens. He cooped up because I said, you
gotta change it up a little bit. So I think
he should come in and like blame the guy giving
him the chair for giving him the wrong I don't
know something, but it will make it. It will make
people pay attention. Yeah, I guess so, I guess so. Um.
And then before we let Jay go, we have to
(57:31):
because I don't know if they do this in Dallas. Uh,
do you guys do former rap stars when he wonders wonders,
because that's that's kind of our big thing. We had
montell Jordan and last Friday, and it was no, you
know what. I know that that exists because through the
weird world of this radio station, we become friends with
kids from kid and play really good friends with them,
(57:52):
and they'll occasionally do Laker or Clipper games. I think
actually they might sometimes do Knicks games too, and they'll
go out there and do you know, uh one or
two songs and then they're you know, that's the halftime
show and people seem to be into it. We don't
really do that as much. Um. We do have this
weird bit where occasionally they will have like a local
(58:14):
girls dance team, so like one of the local dance
studios from one of the you know, Highland Park or
nice neighborhoods in Dallas, and they'll be like forty girls
out there from the age of six to ten, and
I find it incredibly uncomfortable. Uh one, because I just
it's weird to me that kids that age dance like
that to like music. You might hear the strip club.
(58:38):
But then the other thing is I wanted to be consistent,
so I would rate every halftime show on Twitter after
the game. I would give it a grade. I would
give it. I would lay it all up out there
so I couldn't take that night off. So you know,
if they were not up to par, I'd be like,
look this, these kids should have worked harder. This is
c plus. You know they just you didn't have it tonight.
You will have fun grading half TI I mean national
(58:59):
anthem quiet who clear don't don't get him known? Yeah? Yeah,
And inevitably the parents a parent at least one would
would jump all over me before, like my kids worked
for six months on that with team, Like, I don't care.
You know, it's make make it works six more months. Yeah,
you got job. All the players out there practice really
(59:19):
hard too. But I'm still gonna say to night, you
gotta do it. Let's do it. You gotta be honest.
Unorable mentioned to the lady with the with the with
the magnet balls. What's her name? The yeah? Yeah, I
mean yeah yeah, lose Red pant his name you hate
on Red Panda. Why is that she's cool? I mean
that's a big thing. And then did I hear that
(59:40):
somebody stole her Yeah, the Warriors game. They stole her bike, well,
her monorcycle. That's kind of cool, like you have your
own you have your own getaway vehicle. The most impressive
thing about her is I don't know the exact age,
but she I believe now is she's got to be
upper sixties, seventy, and she's been doing this for a
long time, and she was kind of one of the
(01:00:00):
first ones. You became really really you know, famous culturally
in the halftime show game. So I have suggested this.
I'm sorry to go to up, but I have suggested
this to the NBA. They should have halftime shows at
the All Star Game. You know, they should have like
recognized I mean every arena has halftime shows. They should
keep two or three shows, you know at all the
(01:00:23):
All Star Game. Don't you don't have a halftime like
All Star halftime show. But they always have like big
like anniversary things that halftime I know, but you do
they But they have also fifty events going on. I
mean now they have the HBCU Classic, the G League Classic,
the Rookie classes, they were against the other World Classic.
I mean, I think they should recognize that they're partially
(01:00:46):
and have the best halftime act because who gets people
vote for them? Okay, I get it's part of the game.
My father always complains by the way that they don't
show them. They show them on the League Past. Yeah,
they should do that. They should. They got a martial
the League Past. And one of the last thing I
have for you guys, it's wild to me how many
Slovenian fans there are in Cleveland. Well do you know that?
(01:01:09):
I mean I sort of know. We have the biggest
population of ves Slovenians outside of Veslovenia here in Cleveland. Yeah.
I didn't know that before Luca, but once I started
seeing it's a home game for Luca. Yeah, it's crazy,
it's really cool. We actually called the Slovenian Culture Center
last time. That that the map store in Cleveland, and
(01:01:30):
the lady there was not real thrilled with us, have
a ton of time for our questions. She she pretty
much got the best of Dan, which doesn't happen that often,
so it's awesome. Um, but yeah, it's wild. Like you know,
I almost look at this date on the calendar every
year and think like this is I love it. I
just love seeing you know. It just feels very almost
(01:01:52):
like watching a Euro Best when the MAVs come to town,
that corner where the visiting team comes out in pat
I used to three hours before when the doors open,
and I used to think that Luca got that everywhere.
But I mean, and I'm sure, I'm sure he gets
a tunnel of everywhere, but I mean it's like you said,
it's like a home game for him here. And you
(01:02:13):
also have to recognize to that outside of Americans, there's
a little bit of the patriotism is different when it
comes to national hero, national players, national team, especially now
we're talking World up. There's Slovenians to come for them
to come see Luca, who is the flag bearer of
sports in Slovenia. I mean, it's an amazing thing for
(01:02:33):
them to be. It's like a little piece of their
land here when when Luka comes to town. Yeah. Yeah,
we have a Selenian writer on the show. He covers
the maabs every once in a while, and he was
telling us that, especially when the playoffs started, their nightly
news would lead with the MAVs, not their sports, like
the nightly news in Lubliana would leave, would lead their
newscasts with Babs highlights and tell them the story of
(01:02:56):
the game. It's just it's really cool. Yeah, I think
he's cool. I mean I like Luca, Yeah, I mean
I do. I think he's He's done a lot of
stuff for the community too, in the Islands and in Slovenia. Yeah,
so I I like him and I root for him,
and you know, other than Tomorrow night. And he speaks
great Spanish too, that's what you say he does. He does.
I think English is probably like his third or fourth one.
(01:03:18):
Last time they played in uh in Mexico, I think
it was they Look, I grabbed the mic and started
talking to a crowd in Spanish, and then I think
it was I think it was Blake Griffin. That wasn't
the other Griffin and the other team when he was
like all on Mexico, hold on, Look, I gave a
whole speech of why happy they went to back out there,
(01:03:39):
and Blake looked at him like, why did I go first? Right? Hold?
On Jake camp Man, thank you so much for joining us.
Uh and before we we get to say happy holidays man,
because it's honest. Next week is Christmas, Man, it is.
It's here, it's here, it's here. It's going to be
an interesting one. They got a two month old, so
(01:03:59):
everything is already just the complete fog. So maybe the
holidays will just be an extension of that. But yeah,
I appreciate you guys having me, and I'll do it anytime.
Pay quick concert before you go. What is the Wars
halftime show? And why do you will say? The bucket boys. Yeah,
it's definitely the bucket boys because anybody in the crowd,
almost anyone in the crowd could do that. The Math,
the math drum line already, they've got ten guys up
(01:04:20):
there who played drums the whole time. If you go
to downtown in any city at night on a Friday night,
there's a bucket boy there, and that guy it's a
it's just not a skill. If you can dance, you
could be a bucket boy. You have any sense of
rhythm at all, you could be a bucket boy. There's
no chance of danger, there's no animal, there's nothing I
(01:04:45):
like that thanks right, happy all right? That was Jake
Kemp from the Tickets he went. He was really good too.
I think we agree with him. I'm almost We even
talk about the the bucket boys, man, is that something
like the with the the two ones? Well, yeah, I
(01:05:07):
think the Q sticks started out as bucket boys and
they've worked their way up. They worked their way at
the carbon. They've got ladder of boys and ladders now
and even Mundog plays with him. He might might have
a point. Well, don't come play. Jake inspired me like
the ticket inspired me with for the monkey, that's what
I want to get down help her monkey. I mean
(01:05:28):
now that we have a deal with the with the
with the metro packs with right now with the City edition. Yeah,
maybe we can hook up. But somebody can hook us
up and get him money if they if there's anybody
out there with a help her monkey, very wild resting
at the moment, who put him in a cavalier in Jersey. Hey,
let's say some thank you to get the hell out
of here. Man. Uh, we have to start out with
(01:05:51):
saying thank you to the PR staff who got us
Lamar Stevens, the PR staff. Let of course by b J.
Evans who runs it with Boom. They are in fist
but but he also gets a lot of help from Cherome.
This brother sters the drink big time. Bad season for him,
you know, because Packers. The whole PR group is like Cowboys,
(01:06:13):
b J Packers for cher Home and Patriot for for Sammy. Devin.
Booker's gotta be Steelers. She's from Newcastle, Okay, Yeah, so
she's rough season for the PR staff. That's okay with
the Cowboys. Yeah, that's true, except for the Cowboys. But
they'll they'll choke in the playoffs and b J will
be all sad. We have to thank Mrs Lucy Varius, Yes,
(01:06:37):
the best human the way she just hooked me up.
You know, we're having a you know, in in in
Latin culture more Caribbean, they do the Three Wise Men
Day as opposed to Christmas Day, when we do the
presents that the three don't drew January six, when when
the Three Wise Men arrived to see the and a
(01:06:59):
half pounds big and half ounce Jesus. So we're having
something with with our all Spanish partner Lamega and Lucy
Varies just came through with a ton of gifts for
for the kids. So we're gonna do some you know,
gives a change that day. We just people come in
and brighten the holidays for all the kids in need
(01:07:20):
for the northeast Ohio. She was running the toy um
you know they were drive. She was right behind that,
her and the whole the whole cr team. So she's
the best. She's better than Santa. And that's why I
always say anything for Lucia. Yeah, she she is absolutely
the best. We have to say thanks to boot Banks,
(01:07:41):
but we love boot Banks. Uh. Thanks to say thanks
to Robert J. Hageman who does all the technical stuff.
What does he do? He does all the I T stuff,
So I mean if something breaks, I go to him
because something And he's a big wrestling fan too. He
will love a new a new branding. Oh yeah, yeah yeah,
our new branding is a very it's coming up where,
(01:08:02):
don't we the being soon, very very soon, maybe even
the weekend. Uh. And then we have to thank who
else do we have to thank? Uh? The guy, the
life blood, the guy, the life blood, the team play,
the guy that the guy that makes it go. D Mack,
the great d Mack who watched Rosita. Uh so great.
We have to thank Joe Frichard, the great Joe Richard,
love you Joe. And I don't know, I don't know.
(01:08:23):
These guys are very key to the operation. I don't
know what they do when they come to one and
god Rad that's called I call him the way Back Boys,
which is Leo Simone and and and Jeremy Hawks. Oh.
I love those guys. Yeah, those guys work on the
on the road back, but I call him the way
Back Guys. Yeah, they're the best. Man. I love those
guys too. And then of course we have to say
thank you, uh to Dirty Caret and Marty Allen. Daddy's
(01:08:45):
still on the end, man. We root for you, big Daddy.
Come back soon? Is he back good? I'm gonna go
down in the home and say hi on that man.
May stop buying, get some who some somet hood and
some something, some good day tips from the Hey, we'll
be back next week. If we don't talk to you before,
(01:09:07):
they have a happy holidays. But hopefully we'll talk to
you before then. Otherwise we'll just see you next week.
Ibama's at Nina to ball Lucia. Yeah, and as always, yeah,
don come Pillmonia, good night ready, Mac wherever you like, Yeah,
(01:09:35):
we're talking about life as about second chances. You're listening
to Wine and Go radio. Oh goodness, Cleveland. Do you
mean how come quickly on w h K, I'll come.
Bill Coaches like, yeah, alright, ou fuck us, Irish the alty,
(01:09:56):
