Speaker 1 (00:14):
Coming to you live from the Cross Country Mortgage Campus
in Barrio, Ohio. This is Cleveland Browns Daily, presented by
Bally Bett, an official sports betting partner of your Cleveland
Browns on eight fifty ESPN Cleveland p are your hosts
Bo Bishop and Nathan Zegura.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Let's live on a Tuesday edition of Cleveland Browns Daily.
I am merely Bo.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
He is the great z and it's a big day.
Buddy Dome it let's There's no place like Dome. I
remember the year was twenty twenty one.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
Week four, we traveled to Minnesota, Yeah, to take on
the Vikings and School yep. And I had not been
to that stadium. I know you had been to that stadium.
I was absolutely blown away. I thought it was basically

(01:15):
the greatest sports venue that I'd ever been in, And
to this day, I believe that to be true.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I would say I feel the same. I've never been
in anything better than that one.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
I believe that in twenty twenty nine, the Cleveland Browns
will be playing in the greatest stadium on planet Earth
for a period of time, obviously, and then a new
one will be built somewhere. And that's just kind of
the way that it goes, but I do think that
that will be of that ilk, same architect.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
But going back to that, so we're there.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
In twenty twenty one, Browns beat the Vikings Kevin Stefanski's
return to Minnesota, not without controversy on the team for
those who were really remembering how things unfolded in the
year twenty twenty one. And then the very next week
we went to La played at Sofi Stadium against the
Charters in what was one of the all time great

(02:08):
Madden games.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
The Browns. Obviously we did not win that game. Yeah
we should have.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
There were some terrible calls that were made on that one,
but that was one of the Browns are like one
of the first teams with four hundred and fifty yards
of offense, thirty five points or more, blah blah blah,
no turnovers, and did not win.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
But that's neither here nor there. Prior to that game.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
And again this is twenty twenty one, so not even
four years ago. Three and a half years ago, I
was on the sidelines and talking with.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Large luminaries, and.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
I was effusive in my praise of what I had
experienced in Minnesota, and I can tell you at that
point this was not a possibility.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
I was rebuked, I used in texting one of the
luminaries responsible for getting this thing done. And it is
amazing how times have changed and how thought processes have
evolved to the point where it was I want to say,
what was it about a year ago, six, six to

(03:18):
twelve months ago, somewhere in that window, right, yeah, that
it was put in mote like this is it was
at the beginning of the season.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Basically, yeah, this is where we're headed, This is.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Where we're headed. Yeah, so yeah, maybe nine months.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Ago, Yeah, something like that. There's been so many Yeah,
you're right, continue somewhere in there.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
That this was this was a possibility, and I got
I did get to interview the architect at that time.
It was just I was so happy, you were so happy.
We've been proponents of this forever. Yeah, forever, and probably
it just should have been nineteen ninety nine, but it
was so rush. But that's what should have been built

(03:58):
on the lakefront of nineteen ninety nine, had it been
absolutely able to be done and all of that. So
I just think that it's incredible how things have evolved.
It's awesome I woke up. I tried to be honest
with you again, I have a newborn. I tried to
stay up for the moment that the wine signed it.

(04:19):
And he waited until it seemed it was well after
eleven that he actually put pen to paper. He had
till midnight because I wanted to see it. This is
such an awesome thing. And I've talked to so many people,
and I'm sure you have to people who come up
to you, whether you know them or not, and they
come up to you and they share their opinions with

(04:40):
you rather quickly on what they think about this thing.
This is going to be incredible. It's going to be
I think, transformative for this region. I think it is
going to be it's going to be world class. We
have world class fans, it's gonna be a world class facility.
And now we need to get a world class team
in place for twenty twenty nine, and quite frankly, sooner
than that, immediately. But this is so exciting, dude, this

(05:03):
is this is going to be like, think about this,
and I don't know if I don't think we talk
because we obviously didn't talk about yes day. But when
you fly into Dallas, yep. Your flight path typically takes
you over at and T Stadium. Yes, And it's one
of those things you look out of the plane and
I don't know if you do this. I'm always looking
for stadiums in all the courses. It's a two days

(05:23):
I look for yeah, yeah, the way over and then
in LA you fly in right on Sofi, like literally
right by Sofi. And now that's what we're gonna have here.
There is a thing in Cleveland or is you all
know this? So no, I don't want anybody get upset.
Sometimes you descend through the clouds and you're.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Like, oh man, yeah, bleak, bleak.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Now you're gonna at least have a beacon of something
that is very cool that you're gonna fly in and
be like, all right, that's our stadium that's gonna host
big things.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
It is. This is me talking.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
These are not guarantees, certainly, but I mean, now you're
in the line for Big ten championships. Now you're in
the line for final fours or regional finals. Now you're
in line for super Bowls, WrestleMania's, any big stadium show,
concert event, anything likely is gonna come through Cleveland. And

(06:14):
that is gonna bring so much money to this area,
which is gonna be great. It's gonna be a point
of pride. I can tell you our stadium right now
as it is, is not necessarily a point of pride
in the National Football League. In fact, I've talked to
a lot of people who have played here who have
then gone on play other places. And while our stadium
has like a cool environment because the Dog Pound is
so awesome and by the way's seen the renderings, Zog

(06:35):
Pound's gonna be one continuous story section from bottom to
the top.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Honestly, if you look at if you've just as a
quick to jump in there, if you look at what
they did down at the Cruz Stadium, at lower dot
Com Stadium, how they have the Nordka in one wall. Ye,
also very similar to what Barusha Dortmund has where you
have the one wall of supporters. That's what you're gonna get,
and that's undefeated.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
It's gonna be awesome, and it's gonna be right over
the visitors. It's gonna be right over the visitors tunnel.
It's gonna be awesome. This is just such an exciting thing.
And you know, I'm not saying it's gonna happen. But
I could envision at some point and you could tell
me I'm wrong, You would certainly know better. But that
like every year there'll be a big time Buckeye game
played in that stadium. There's just gonna be so many

(07:17):
things that are even out of the box of what
we're thinking about right now, that are gonna be able
to take place in at say, not to mention, it's
gonna be an unbelievable football environment. You are going to
be able to go there no matter the weather and
sit comfortably watch a game. The seats are closer to
the field than they are at our current stadium. It's
just gonna be I've wanted this, This is a dream

(07:37):
of mine for a long long time.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
And a lot of.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
People here probably don't travel to a lot of games.
You haven't gone and taken in a game, and a
lot of you did last year in Vegas, and everybody
you talked with, Dude, that stadium is awesome. Yeah, yeah,
it is Minnesota, same thing, La, same thing.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
When they first got that thing. That thing's gorgeous.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Yes, even Ford Field has a certain charm to it
with the Braain On the one side, it's just nice
to be able to play football there when, by the way,
when you have a good quarterback, which we are certainly
hoped that is on our roster already, and if not,
we are going to never. Our quest will go on
and on to get it. That's a big advantage playing
in a perfect environment. It's a big advantage. And so

(08:18):
you got I love it. I think it's cool that
we're gonna be the only domaur division as well. I
think is pretty neat at least for now.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
It's just exciting. Man, I'm so pumped about it is.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
This is such a long time coming, and I really
think it is. It has the potential to be a
change in terms of how the Browns are perceived, how
the Browns perform, how the Browns and this area are perceived,
in terms of just events of major magnitudes.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
You hit on something there. I talked about this a
little bit this morning. When this thing is done, it'll
be the best venue in the world. Think about that.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
Yeah, in Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Here we will have it right right now. Maybe it's Minnesota,
maybe it's real Madrid. Who just read it. There's that
type of but this is four more years of technology.
So there, I'm glad you put the qualifier on it
for a period of time, because someone will do something
bigger and better, because it's the way this works. But
for a period of time, this will be the best
exactly for a short period of time, or it could

(09:22):
be a decent period of time, you will have the
best stadium on the planet. Yep. Okay, So that that
is just such an in discreadable thing. Yeah, in this region.
So that's just that's incredible that that part of it.
There are some who will say and you and I
have talked about this. You and I have been proponents
of this going back to like eighteen, like I mean

(09:43):
maybe even before that for you.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
But Bence, I sat behind this microphone.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Yeah, we've just been like, man, I've been to a
lot of those games in late November December or when
we had when there were season tickets in the family.
It would be like, hey, does anybody want these? No, No,
I don't want them. I'm not on the sideline you were, Yeah,
and they're just there. There is a romance to the
cold that is not backed up in reality of actually

(10:08):
going to the games. And I think it's a lot
of people on television. Yes, there's a badge of honor
of saying yes, I was in the game. I was
at the Buffalo game. I was at that game with
my father in law and as two buddies, we were
at that game and it was awful. Now you won,
and so you remember it, but the experience of it
was brutal to be in that it was awful. So

(10:29):
I've wanted this for a long time. Selfishly, I want
this for other reasons beyond the and of course it's
going to do all of those things, all the economic impact,
all of it. All of the things that you just
mentioned as possibilities are things my kids love.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
WrestleMania yep. NCAA Final fours yep, Big time concerts yep,
Big ten championship football games yep. Big time college football
games in the playoff yep, National championship games, yes, super Bowls. Yes,
this opens the door for all of that. I have
watched because of what I do in the morning. I
have watched college money go to Indiana for decades. Yep.

(11:09):
I've watched that money go to Indiana and Indianapolis. I've
seen it go to Detroit or Chicago. Enough enough you
can keep that money in state. You know what you
mentioned the Ohio State regular season game. It won't happen regularly,
but what you could see is what just happened last
year between Alabama and Wisconsin where they played at Lambeau.
So you could see a scenario where Ohio State plays

(11:30):
a neutral field regional game. Let's say against Texas. You
play one of them in this stadium, you played another
one in Jerry World Like. Both coaches would like that,
to play in NFL stadiums and to be in regions
with hotbeds of recruiting, so all of those things become
possibilities that otherwise were not. If Ohio State ever has
to renovate the Horseshoe, like a real renovation, they could

(11:53):
play in this stadium while that renovation takes place, and
they are going to need to do that in the
near future. That none of us we're not saying any
of this stuff is a certainty. Nothing is a certainty.
But now it's possible.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
But you also can have that game played on a Saturday,
no problem, and play your game on a Sunday.

Speaker 5 (12:08):
It's very field.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
It's not effect anything. So so all of the things
that we're talking about are possible. Now we're not possible
intel now and so aside from actually just you and
most of you listening to us are Cleveland Browns fans, right,
this is Cleveland Browns Daily. It's the team you love
the most.

Speaker 6 (12:26):
Right.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yeah, Well guess what you're experiencing gonna be awesome. Yeah,
you're experiencing gonna be awesome at this stadium. It's gonna
be outstanding. You are not going to have to deal
with a stadium that has two real ways in and out. Yep,
you have multiple ways in and out. There's gonna be
all sorts of parking. You want to talk about an
entire region, immuni lot, you can do that, like all
of those things. It's going to enrich all of those things,

(12:49):
all of them. And I couldn't be more excited about this.
When I went to that wedding at the Minnesota Stadium,
and up until that point, the two coolest things that
I've ever seen were Jerry World in Indy and I
think Indy. I think they really crushed India, especially when
you consider when it was built, the idea that it
still holds up. It is still spectaclic, it's still awesome
to this day. And Jerry World's a stunning accomplishment. And

(13:13):
the idea that they designed it so you never had
to wait in line for a beer is a pretty
or a bathroom is pretty cool. That they designed enough
of them to make sure that you didn't. But when
I went to Minnesota, that was just on another level.
It was the marriage of indoor and outdoor, that terranium
kind of feel, the greenhouse feel, with the natural light,
all of the things that Minneapolis did that was a

(13:36):
game changer. And I remember coming back to that wedding
and telling you, like, dude, that play when you go play,
see us play there, you're gonna be You can't even
wrap your head around how cool that place is. So cool,
it's so great, And that's what's this? Is this there?
How many years have they been playing in that place?

Speaker 5 (13:50):
Now?

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Five six, maybe more than that, maybe even more than that.

Speaker 5 (13:55):
I think it's a prime. It will be it's it's
gonna be surprising. It might be more like I think
it's over. I think it might be a decade.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
Well, I know that they I want to say in
fourteen they were playing it on campus at Minnesota, but
I could be right.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
They were that year. You're right, they were that year.
So they would be right around.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
There somewhere in there. So maybe it's ten years old now.
So just think what technology this one's going to.

Speaker 5 (14:16):
Have opened in twenty sixteen, so this will be its
ten seasons.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Yeah, this is ten seasons. Yeah, and that place is sick,
still sick, and so this is going to be ten
years more recent technology than that if you get started
on tomorrow. So yeah, I just you, and I mean
anyone who's listening regularly knows that you and I have
wanted this for a very long time, long before to
your point that it was ever even thought possible. You know,

(14:44):
we kind of resigned to ourselves that we'd be in
kind of a buffalo situation where you have something where
the wind kind of goes around and yeah, all of
this and you're trying to re engineer the win. But
to me, just take that out of it. And the
other thing that you have to remember, and this is
the other part in terms of the roster to things.
Number One, this ownership has proven time and time again
that they will spend what it takes to win. Yep.

(15:06):
So everything that they're doing in Philly can be done here. Okay.
The other thing, don't think for a second that this
isn't more attractive for players, don't think for a second.
Of course, it is climate control. Come on, kickers, quarterbacks.
Everybody wants to play in one temperature, everybody, and now

(15:28):
you're gonna you're gonna yes. So for me a player
requisition standpoint, it's it's massive too.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
And here's the thing. Just take a look at the fact.
Look at what our home record had been. And you
could say there are a lot of reasons for that,
but the notion that there was this unbelievable home field
advantage from playing outdoors.

Speaker 5 (15:46):
No, did not hold true for us.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
If the Green Bay Packers lose at home with Rogers
to the forty nine ers, what.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
Are we doing right?

Speaker 2 (15:57):
What are we doing?

Speaker 4 (15:58):
By the way, I think you want to Rogers would say, hey,
I wish that was in a dome all these years.

Speaker 5 (16:02):
Thank You've probably been quite pleased.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Please. Yeah, yeah, they of course they would.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Everybody wants Look at Matt Stafford to play his whole
year career in a dome. Drew Brees way better in
a dome, Kirk Cousins way better.

Speaker 5 (16:14):
In a dome.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
It just it makes the game easier, It makes it
and certainly you know, you go back to where Andrew
Berry started his career, and I know, I think I'm
going to talk with them as well as we saw
the Browns have teased and we'll get some some excerpts
from my first interview, which was with Dan Jimmy has them.
But the Building Brownstown podcast, we're gonna talk the luminaries
upon luminaries, both in this building, around the National Football League,

(16:39):
the top guy in the league, all of it.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
It's gonna be really really cool.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
But you know, Andrew Berry when he started with Indianapolis,
one of the things that and you know, Bill Pollian,
regardless of what he people who are young and only
know of him recently, but was the architect of you
know that in Peyton Manning kind of dynasty there in Indianapolis.
And they built that team obviously for their elements, which
were none and the speed and you know Dwight Freeney

(17:04):
and Mathis and guys like that, and getting the good receivers,
always having those good receivers and then you know Dallas
Clerk blah blah blah blah blah, goes on on and none.
But one of the things he told Andrew Berry is
when you can eliminate the variables. The best team is
going to win more often than it is not. And this, now,
the I think, puts a big, big onus on this organization.

(17:27):
You're going to have the best fans, You're going to
have the best fan experience, You're going to have the
best stadium on the planet Earth for a period of
time here.

Speaker 5 (17:34):
In Northeast Ohio.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
And you have got to get this football team on
that same level, obviously tomorrow, but by twenty twenty nine.
Because when you have this, that gives you that opportunity
to do something great, to host something great. I mean
what the dream would be, right, and you're going to

(17:56):
get a super Bowl here, but your hope is that
you can do what I'm pretty sure it was the
rain Ams who won the Super Bowl in their building.
That's fact they did. They beat the Bengals in their building. Yeah,
like that's on the table.

Speaker 7 (18:09):
Now.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
You're never going to have a super Bowl played in
the city of Cleveland before this, and now it is
a real possibility. Well, and they've been in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
They played it, so like you're there, Yeah, you're there.
So yeah, all of those things.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
We got a bunch of statements letters, you want to
hop into this. Yeah, ahead, So this is a letter
to Cleveland Browns fans. By the way, how about the
signature from from Janks there?

Speaker 2 (18:35):
I mean, what a job out of him.

Speaker 5 (18:36):
I don't believe it.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Do you think that's his signature?

Speaker 5 (18:40):
Do you we need to get monica.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
I mean, that's all. That's like a John Hancock like
he's got like pedman does that.

Speaker 5 (18:47):
It's incredible penmanship.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
If it is, where's my I'm gonna I'm gonna we'll
get the answer to that.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
I'm gonna you you read the statement and I'll.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
Take a photo send it to send it to our
group chat. Yeah, I want to see his.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
Response because it is it's I mean, it's flawless. If
that's real.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Yeah, Now, I think that it could be a one
perfect one that's forever memorialized in a stamp, right, like
where you just hit it perfect and you're like, let's.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
Make this a stamp all right to the bottom of it.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
I think that's I think that's in play.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
It's a stock. It's a stock because it's I mean,
you folks, you've seen it. It's an incredible signature. It's
it's flaws. But here was the uh here's the letter
to Cleveland Browns fans, the next chapter of Cleveland Browns Football.
Yesterday's announcement of the approved state budget that includes a
construct which supports a new enclosed Huntington Bank Field in

(19:38):
brook Park is a tremendous milestone for our organization, Browns
fans everywhere in the entire northeast Ohio community. As d
and Jimmy communicated earlier, and this is the quote from
the HASLMS quote, we respect the firm commitment and leadership
that Governor Dewaian and the Ohio Senate and House have
shown in their collaborative work to find a responsible way
to support such a transformative project, one that will create

(19:58):
a generational impact for our region and our state. Our
fans deserve the world class facility, and we're committed to
committed to building a state of the art enclosed stadium
that resonates with Cleveland, highlighting our loyal and passionate fans
and the Dog Pound, while also incorporating innovation, bold design,
and an immersive experience. The new enclosed Huntington Bankfield is
we're gonna go with enclosed, then it's not dome. It's

(20:19):
an enclosed stadium. Is that there's it must be some
type of a difference. Do people think a dome is
maybe just like articular like the Superdome.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
I don't know, it's I mean, I just think we
all know what that means, right we dome just means
us inside.

Speaker 5 (20:32):
That's what I think.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
Yeah, that's how I read it. So okay, either way,
whatever normenclature you'd.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
Like, the parlance of our times. By the way, remind
me just say you were going to say something. Just
remind me there.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
What he saying.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
Say just for us, just just for us.

Speaker 4 (20:51):
Perfect. We respect the firm commitment and leadership. Sorry, the
now new enclosed Huntington Bankfield we completely fan centric, a
first of its kind design in the NFL and a
dynamic venue that draws visitors from across Ohio and beyond
for concerts and significant sporting events throughout the year. This
premier facility will anchor a major lifestyle and entertainment development
and be a catalyst for one of Northeast Ohio's largest

(21:12):
economic development projects ever and something our community will be
proud of and can enjoy for.

Speaker 5 (21:17):
Years to come.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
We appreciate the support of state leaders and their belief
in this transformative project from Jenkins. The Browns have been
part of the fabric of Northeast Ohio for generations, and
although there's more work to be done to bring this
vision to fruition, we are thrilled at the prospect of
this transformative project, securing the Browns future in Northeast Ohio
for generations to come. As we continue down the stadium path,
we want to reinforce a few key facts. One, the

(21:39):
HASLMS continue to commit to Greater Cleveland and with this
unprecedented two plus billion dollar private investment in the stadium
and Vibert mixed use lifestyle and entertainment development along with
our private development partners, HASLMS Sports Group will pay for
any cost overruns on stadium construction and the public will
not bear any overrun risk.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
That's unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
It is unbelievable. And I know there are people that
billionis should pay for at all.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
And I get that this is a substantial commitment from
them as it's slated right now, they are one point
eight of two point four that's a significant commitment.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
That's seventy five percent. The new and closed Huntington Bankfield
is more than just a stadium. Project.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
The venual host the world's best and most exciting concerts
and events throughout the year, bringing a far greater impact
to downtown Cleveland through regional and national visitors and just
ten to twelve current stadium dates. The state's construct is
a performance grant towards the stadium that will be paid
back with incremental revenue generated by the project above a
current state revenue baseline. There has been no ask by
HASM Sports Group to pledge existing tax revenue streams that

(22:37):
would take away from other prising community needs to.

Speaker 5 (22:39):
Fund this project.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
The economic development project not only will pay back, but
provide all stakeholders an additional return on their investment. The
Haslm family is also providing the state additional protection the
form significant upfront private dollars that will be held in
Escro to ensure the state has made whole on its
investment in the unlikely event the project falls short of
its projection, so the state will be made whole regardless
of the outcome of this project. Right, we will continue

(23:02):
to invest in Northeast Ohio in our community. We embrace
our responsibility and our privileged to use our platform to
create meaningful change, particularly in supporting equitable opportunities in the
fields of education, youth football, and economic advancement. We see
the stadium project as a further way to advance these
important community pillars of our organization. Humbly and admittedly, we
have not had the success our fans deserve on the field,
but we've always tried to hire the right people to

(23:22):
put us on a path to success, and our commitment
remains steadfast to building a championship caliber team, a world
class stadium and fan experience, and.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
Continuing to get back to the community.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
In the meantime, training camp is less than a month away,
and everyone in our organization is working towards an exciting,
successful season that gives the Browns fans plenty to cheer for.
We look forward to sharing more details about this project
as plans evolve, and thank you for your support of
the Browns and for coming on this journey with us.

Speaker 5 (23:44):
We are excited to deliver the.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Long term stadium solution, a major economic development project all
of northeast Ohio deserves. Sincerely, Dave Jenkins has some sports
group Cleveland Browns and right now if you go the
Browns Twitter handle at Browns, there are a bevy posts
the Browns have also launched a stadium site for Huntington
bank Field that tells you all a bunch a lot

(24:08):
of the things that you need to know for it,
so you guys can check that out.

Speaker 5 (24:12):
So there is a ton of doing and that website.

Speaker 4 (24:15):
I retweeted that that's the new Huntington Makefield website, so
you can check that out out as well. And we
also have not just our written word, we actually have
quotes from the owners. You can hear some clips we're
going to play for you right now from our owners.
Jimmy and de has them. This is from the Building Brownstown,
which is a ten part podcast coming out later this summer.

(24:37):
This is a snippet of the interview that I did
with Jimmy and d.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
Building this dome facility.

Speaker 8 (24:42):
We'll go from having ten events a year in our
current stadium to have and all kinds of events. And
I mean, I think it's really important for everybody to
understand that, yes, there'll be ten NFL games and hopefully more,
but they'll also be a chance to have national championship
games in football, final four games in basketball men's and women's.

(25:03):
They'll be chance to have the Sweet Sixteen. Here the
Women's World Cup has come to the US in thirty one.
We will put in a bid for that. Would we
have gotten a bid in if we'd had it, we'd
have had a bid for the Men's World Cup, which
comes next year, as you know, so you have to
think big and broad. All the concerts that we've missed
that go to Detroit or go somewhere else Indianapolis will

(25:23):
now come here. So it is going to be transformational.

Speaker 4 (25:27):
All right, We've got another one from Jimmy and I
love I love that. That's what we're talking about. Massive events,
world events, global sporting events. All will be now coming
to Cleveland. And he's going to talk about the home
field advantage that our fans create and what that has
to do with the new Huntington Bankfield.

Speaker 8 (25:44):
We have not done the job on the field we should.
We bear full responsibility. And if anybody deserves a great
stadium and a great team, it's the Cleveland Browns fans.
You deal with them every day. We have the world's
greatest fans. We are going to deliver a world class stadium.
I could argue this bet stadium in the country, one
of the best in the world. We need to develop
the same kind of team. I do think a dome

(26:05):
stadium and you're with us when we go on the
road does give you an advantage with the home field
because that noise is just packed in. They're tighter, and
we hope this will become not only a great experience
for our fans, but a terrible experience for the visiting
team because it is a quote hard place to play.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
What he just said on there is actually something that
you and I have talked about before, and it's not
because of lack of effort from the fan perspective. It's
just because of the way the wind blows in our stadium,
current stadium situation, the noise gets blown out totally. It
does not keep it in, and it's not as loud
as it should be based on the effort that the
fans are producing.

Speaker 5 (26:41):
It's not Oh and the dome and the dome dome
ounce right back down.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Or there are some outdoor like Seattle where they designed
it and the new Buffalo want will be built that way.
Where they designed it that way to keep the noise in.
Ours was not. It was built hastily, and it's built
in a way that a lot of the noise escapes. Yeah,
and that's that's part of it all.

Speaker 4 (27:00):
Right. Let's hear now from d Haslm the fact that
with this stadium, every details focused on a stellar fan experience.

Speaker 9 (27:08):
Everything we've done in the planning process for the New
Dome Stadium is fan first. You know, what what can
we do to create the best experience for the fan.
That's talking about the unique food service. You know, we're
to have some really great experiences, just everything about the
concourse and we've thought about you know what, what's the

(27:28):
experience going to be like for the fan, what the
plaza looks like. I mean, it's kind of walking in
the fans shoes to create the best experience for them
because we know now it's been a pretty rough experience
for them and we want to make sure that every
detail is fan first.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
And that's one of the cool things about this is
and I know our team people that have been involved
in this, whether it be you know, all the way
up to the Haslms, to Dave Jenkins, to Monica Lindsay
and Phil and Ted and Brent Rossi and everybody who
has been a part of traveling to other new stadiums

(28:07):
h the Clippers Stadium, for example, Yeah, to international stadiums
to domes here Minnesota and SOFI and Vegas and all that,
walking around talking with the people that were responsible for
making those pulling what they thought were the best things
from all of these other places to be able to
put them into ours. This is when I say that

(28:29):
this place is fan obsessed in this place by I
mean the Cleveland Browns, they are, And I know and
Jimmy said it in his the product on the field
has not been commeserate with the effort or the money
certainly that has been spent to try and make this
team what we all want it and deserve it to be.
This stadium, though, is going to be like Cleveland Brown's Disneyland.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
If you have not yet been, go watch a game
at lower dot Com with the Columbus crew and go
see what that atmosphere is like. They built that stadium. Yeah, Okay,
and that one put all it's all fan it's all.
It is universally a ten out of ten for everybody

(29:15):
down there. And that's what they did down there. So
you're gonna that's what's coming.

Speaker 5 (29:19):
Yeah, And this is a much grander scale of the NFL.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
But I'm just saying, like they had to build a
stadium in a short amount of time, and everything that
they put into account on that was how do we
make sure that the fan experience.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
Here's one more from d HASLM. Building on the legacy
of this franchise and this city.

Speaker 9 (29:39):
For this community to think big, to have vision, to
really be excited about what this community can look like.
So I think for us, it's not about us, It's
about Cleveland and northeast Ohio and and what it means
to be citizens from here. I mean, this is a
unique place. We have fallen in love with it. We're

(30:01):
adopted I guess we're somewhat adopted here, but love this area,
love this region. So it's not about our legacy. Is
actually about the legacy of the clan.

Speaker 5 (30:10):
Which is awesome.

Speaker 4 (30:12):
And they really see this not as and I know
the question that was asked there and I know what
I asked and how it got where it was, But
they don't see this as like this is our famili's legacy,
that this is going to be here, which they could
and reasonably so like this is something that we've come
into this community, we love it, and this is going

(30:33):
to be our big you know, leave to it.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
They see it as.

Speaker 4 (30:36):
They are stewards of this organization for a time, they
are stewards of the Cleveland Browns, and what that means
for a time a period of time, and that this
is something that can be a lasting impact for this franchise,
for the Cleveland Browns, for their fans, for this region.

Speaker 5 (30:54):
That will we use the words transform.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
I really think that that's that's not hyperbole, that's bounce.
That it will transform the way Cleveland is viewed. And
people say it's in brook Park. I know that, but
it's it's Cleveland. Yeah, this area northeast Ohio, Cleveland will
be transformed. There's nothing that just occur to me when
you think about what is from brook Park forty five

(31:22):
minutes maybe it's forty five minutes south or south to Akron.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
Yeah, around there for an hour.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
Yeah, that's where the prom That's where the Canton, that's
where I can't Yeah, that's where the little hour to Canton. Yeah, okay,
that's where the Pro Football Hall of Fame is. Yeah,
you don't think it is going to dawn on the
National Football League that now we have a state of
the art facility as good as can be one hour
from the Hall of fame and that that's not going
to be a draw to them to put events or

(31:52):
football forward thinking events into that building. Of course it is,
of course it is.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
Yeah, it's it opened. This just opens up what's possible.
Things that weren't previously possible in this state now are
so beyond just your Brown's experience, which is going to
be ten out of ten. Beyond all of that. What
it means for the region, I mean you understand your
transformative round and think that's what I mean, things you
otherwise could not have. There was no if this didn't

(32:19):
get done, there was no path to ever see a
Final Four here. There's no path to ever see a
national championship football game here, a Super Bowl. None of
those things were.

Speaker 5 (32:28):
College player, none of that.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
None of that. Now it all is, yes, So yeah,
it's it's an awesome day. It really is.

Speaker 4 (32:34):
And I have to think if you're a big you
know you're looking. I think that you're looking to think
about how in Georgia, for example, they have the beautiful Dome,
and so they have the Chick fil A Peach Bowl.
I don't know if it is still a Chick fil
A Peach Bowl, but for a time it was the
Chick fil A Peach Bowl. You're going to have big
companies here and that do business in this region lining

(32:57):
up to try to put their name on whatever bowl
there's going to be a bowl game played here.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
They don't well, what they will get done. What they
can get to the front of the line of right
away is college football National Championship game yep, because they're
they're going to play one in Indy, so they can
play one here and so that you get to the
front of that line real quickly.

Speaker 5 (33:19):
I think the Big Ten Championship is going to be here.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
They can bet on it for sure, because right now
it's in Indy every year, and there's there's no reason
for it always to.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
Be there, especially now when Ohio State is the pre
eminent force of the Big Ten.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Right and by the way, you're closer to I would
assume that you're closer from ann Arbor here than you
are in Indianapolis, right, I think, yes, yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Wait, it's three hours three hours to Fort Wayne from here,
but I mean from an Arbor.

Speaker 5 (33:46):
I mean from man. I think, is it really it's
similar to here, because that's where it kills. I could
be wrong about.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Them, Yeah, I don't I don't know, it's I don't
know that either way. The point is they've had it
at other places and now you can be involved in
those things. So this is yeah, I mean, this is
a very very exciting time. I'll guarantee you this. It's
faster to State College from here than it is to
go to Indy for Penn State fans. So and it's
it's certainly faster for East Lansing, I would assume as well.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
So it's it's it's over four hours to Indianapolis.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
From an armor yeah, and it's about three from here.
That's right. Yeah, So there you go. So it's an
exciting day. It very much is. And and this is
it's going to be here before we know it. It's
it is absolutely transformational, not just for the Cleveland Browns,
but for the region, for the state. It's just awesome,
very exciting. Those are your hot topics today, presented by

(35:29):
Experience Package Day for the ultimate game Day. Here's offensive
line coach Mike Bloombern coach. What's the challenge of.

Speaker 10 (35:36):
Being the new guy in a group with so experienced
that most of these guys have fanning here for multiere leaders.

Speaker 11 (35:41):
You know, I don't know that there's a challenge in that.

Speaker 12 (35:43):
I think it's quite an advantage, especially because there's so
many things in my background with Bill Callahan that is
called the same, it's still done the same, but there's.

Speaker 11 (35:52):
Also things that aren't and so I think having those.

Speaker 12 (35:54):
Vets, you know when you talk about Joel and Poe
and Wyatt and Jack, I mean, those guys are such
a good window into the past, the recent past, and
so I can see how Bill evolved, because Bill always evolves,
you know, he's a master coach.

Speaker 11 (36:07):
And so it's a good.

Speaker 12 (36:08):
Thing for us to be able to say, Okay, we're
going to do this like this or exactly like that.
And just for a start of reference in the conversation
Mike Jack was.

Speaker 13 (36:16):
Seeing yesterday that beyond just what you bring from your
own experience, the head coaching experience, that a coaching piece
that you have in your background.

Speaker 11 (36:23):
He said, it's how valuable it is to bring over there.

Speaker 13 (36:26):
What do you feel like that head coaching experience adds
as a position coach now at is level.

Speaker 12 (36:32):
Yeah, I think whether you're a head coach of a
football team or the position coach, like, you're in charge
of that segment, right and as a head coach, of
course you have a lot of balls in the air.
I think the big thing I'd tell you is is
I am so fortunate and so happy to be back
in the National Football League and to be part.

Speaker 11 (36:47):
Of this organizations.

Speaker 12 (36:48):
It's an outstanding organization to be part of. And I
get to worry about football all the time. I get
to worry about the offensive line all the time instead of,
you know, kissing babies and raising money and some of
the things you do as a head coaching college football
in this day and age.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
Joel Platoya, when we were talking to him, he said,
it's crazy you, he said, sometimes you have to be.

Speaker 14 (37:11):
As on something flying coach.

Speaker 11 (37:14):
So how do you do that without going too far?

Speaker 5 (37:17):
You know?

Speaker 11 (37:17):
I think you have to be true to yourself.

Speaker 12 (37:19):
I think players at any age feel like when you're
not being genuine and they know it. And I think
they can tell how much I love this game. If
it comes across as being that word, that's probably the
nicest way everybody's anybody's ever called me that word. So
I guess I'll take it, you know. And I appreciate
the fact that, uh, these guys want to be pushed
and they do. They want to be great, and that's

(37:40):
a fun group to work with day in and day out.

Speaker 10 (37:42):
I know, at the end of last year, a couple
of guys are talking about wanting to get back to
why Joe what Kevin had done early in his tenure
here and then Joel's excited to do it too. Can
you see that the excitement from these guys that are
kind of getting back to the bread butter.

Speaker 12 (37:55):
Honestly, from day one of OSP when we got to
talk about it, when Tommy Reese went in there and
installed the offensive identity and we talked about who we're
gonna be and what things have to happen for us
to be that team, I think you've seen a great
level of excitement and you've also seen guys making a
commitment to make those techniques work.

Speaker 14 (38:13):
What the idea of the identity? What is what is
your work for loss to me going into this, what
you wanted this line to me? What they what you
want them to represent when they're out here?

Speaker 12 (38:22):
Yeah, this line is going to be smart, tough, and physical,
and they're going to see the game through one set
of eyes. And that's gonna be Ethan Posick who's going
to identify things for us.

Speaker 13 (38:30):
You were you were with the Stanford teams, I mean,
running the football and that physicality was sort of that
was their identity. Just what's the similarities between what you
guys are trying to do here with what you guys did.

Speaker 11 (38:42):
There, they're at the stand.

Speaker 12 (38:44):
I think it's a very similar philosophy in terms of
wanting to have the ability to pound the rock. Now
with that you're in the National Football League, you're also
going to have to pass protect. But again, in everything
that we do, there's never gonna be a passive rep.
Like pass pro is only passive until contacts made and
then it's straight violence for the rest of the doubt
and it's a barroom brawl. And so as long as
we take that mindset and understand the fight that it takes,

(39:04):
whether it's run or passed, I think we're gonna be
just fine. But going Yeah, talking about those Stanford days,
those were a lot of fun. Those are a lot
of fun being able to pound the rock down people's throats,
and that's something this offensive line really wants.

Speaker 11 (39:16):
To be able to do for this team as well.

Speaker 14 (39:18):
What have you just seen from Dewan Jones about tech?

Speaker 11 (39:20):
Yeah, I think Dwan's done some good things.

Speaker 12 (39:23):
You talk about like what you've seen this offseason just
as the osp started, you talk about the steps that
he's taken. He's been at everything, he's attacked his rehab
and he's lost some weight. So I think those are
good starting points. I think there's so much good in
the package that is Dewan Jones, things that certainly you
can't coach, you know, from a length a size standpoint athleticism.

Speaker 11 (39:43):
There's a lot of good in there.

Speaker 12 (39:45):
But he's certainly not a finished product, as are none
of us in that offensive line. We're including myself, like
there's still a lot of work to be done. I
really think it's the proverbial like we're not where we
need or want to be, but thank god, we're not
where we used to be.

Speaker 11 (39:56):
We're making progress, but we got a long way to go.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
You've got a player of county. Is there anybody from
your past we'll want to remind you?

Speaker 14 (40:00):
Then?

Speaker 11 (40:02):
No, he's unique.

Speaker 10 (40:05):
Yes, he talked about the transition from the right side
and west side. Now he thinks he's still kind of
going through that, just you know, trying to do stuff
left handed. How do you how have you seen him
get better and how do you help him get he
further better?

Speaker 11 (40:18):
Left side?

Speaker 6 (40:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (40:19):
I think it is reps.

Speaker 12 (40:20):
Reps, reps and ruthlessly repetitive fundamentals are a thing we
believe in the offensive line room, and so the mare
sets he can get from the left, and the more
comfortable he can get, whether it's from a two point
stance or from a three point stance, that all has
so much value and we've got to make sure we're
getting in those reps. I'm really encouraged by the ability
that's there. And again, I think there's a philosophical philosophy

(40:41):
in this building and something Bill has always held strong to.
And there's not a whole lot of difference between playing
right and left tackle from a skill set, And although
we know the importance of the left tackle position, I'm
not saying that. But again, when you talk about just
mastering those footwork patterns and feeling comfortable with every kick
and every step you're taking, that's really just time on
task because it is a different stance.

Speaker 13 (41:00):
So you you believe that kind of a tackle is
a tackle right left? Isn't more is made out right
and left than maybe the reality.

Speaker 11 (41:10):
I think when you're looking for tools and skill set. Yes,
over the.

Speaker 14 (41:14):
Past couple of years, injuries have kind of played the
line for you. Where do you see the depth of
the team. Obviously want to stay healthy, but we're definitely
playing for you.

Speaker 12 (41:22):
I think the depth's coming and I think the off
season moves that we made and bringing Tevin in and
bringing Cornelius Lucas in, those are great steps to shoring
that up. There's also gonna be some competition in a
couple of positions because of those.

Speaker 11 (41:33):
Guys jumping in there.

Speaker 12 (41:34):
I think Luke Whippler, who we call coach Whippler because
of his knowledge of the system, you know, I think
he's doing a great job and I think we have
a ton of confidence in him.

Speaker 14 (41:42):
How much do you enjoy the development part?

Speaker 1 (41:43):
That is?

Speaker 11 (41:44):
I love it. I live for this, y'all, like like
football is what I love.

Speaker 2 (41:48):
Along the line, So when you want switching to the
left side, I've seen a couple of times for he's.

Speaker 11 (41:52):
Been all on the side. Talk FLEs a little bit.

Speaker 2 (41:54):
You're just starting to talk about the different things.

Speaker 7 (41:56):
Just how much can Miles can help go on sort
of the ropes on that side, and they just going
up against that caliber flaring at this morning.

Speaker 12 (42:04):
Yeah, I think it's the ultimate iron sharpens iron right
as you talk about that, and so anything that they
can do and certainly post rep hey, what you see,
what you feel and why and being able to process
that as an offensive lineman knowing that we live in
fractional seconds, so it's got to be something that's done
pre snap, and so we can take it away the
next time understanding like, hey, I saw your shoulders open.
Hey I saw you off balance. Great, let's make sure

(42:25):
we fix it and just stay lower and stay square.

Speaker 2 (42:27):
Did you really tell four years I did?

Speaker 15 (42:30):
Man?

Speaker 12 (42:30):
Look, I'm the eternal optimist, and I'm praying to get
every moment I can with Joel Potonio, Like from that
first dinner that we had, I just think it's it's
been such a blessing to be around him. I really
competed when we brought in Alan Fanica with the Jets
in two thousand and eight, And when whenever Joel talks
about something he sees through the face mask, I like
can't wait to write it down right because there's so

(42:51):
much wisdom in there. And it really was the same
as Fanic, Like I got books full of his vantage
point that I still used today to teach.

Speaker 10 (42:57):
So you're pretty relieved when he decided he was coming back.

Speaker 11 (43:00):
Yeah, I'd say it's one of my best recruiting efforts lately.

Speaker 2 (43:02):
All right, tell you go. New offensive line coach Mike
Bloomber for the mandatory mini camp. And now let's take
a look at this offensive line room. This is something
that we thought there would be a little bit of
future planning in the draft in terms of a tackle.
It didn't happen, but certainly you feel feel very good
about that front group. But there are some age issues
as well as this is a very veteran group in parts,

(43:23):
and then it's really young in some of the spots
behind him.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
Well, not only not only that, you have a lot
of guys whose contracts are up after this season, there
are a lot of guys who are on the last
season of their contracts with the Cleveland Browns in this
offensive line room, and so that makes it a challenging
or an interesting situation to project not only what this

(43:48):
team is right now, but what is this team and
what is this offensive line going to look like for
the future. Because if you look at it, you know
Joel Beatonio, we didn't weren't sure if he was going
to come back. He did. This is the last year
of his contract. Twenty twenty six is a void year
on his contract. Then you go to Wyatt Teller. Yep,

(44:11):
Wyatt Teller is in the last year of his contract.
Ethan Posk is in the last year of his contract,
so that's three of your starters. Tevin Jenkins is on
a one year deal, So this is a group that
does not have you look at kind of your top guys,

(44:32):
and I'm pretty sure Cornelis Lucas Chrinis Lucas is.

Speaker 5 (44:35):
On a two year deal.

Speaker 4 (44:36):
So of your top of your starters, Dwan Jones. Oh,
and then I didn't mention the other one. Your other
starter would be Jack Conklin. Jack Conklin is in the
last year of his deal, So you're talking about four
fifths of your starting offensive lines in the last year
of its deal. And then one of your top backups.

(44:57):
So five of your top eight yep are in the
last year of their contracts.

Speaker 5 (45:01):
So you've got a lot to do here.

Speaker 4 (45:03):
And yes, you've got Dwan Jones, Yes you've got Zack Zenner,
You've got Luke Whippler. But and Cornelis Lucas, I guess
has a second year. But there's not a whole lot
set for beyond. So this season, and obviously they're excited
about Bloomgren. He brings kind of that real, legitimate, you know,
attitude to everything and you could tell the players like him.

(45:27):
But this is a line that's got not so much
questions for what it can do on the field. This year,
we're gonna have questions about kind of what the backups
look like, but what it's going to be going forward.

Speaker 5 (45:38):
What is this room going to be in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (45:45):
So yeah, it's it's a big one. Yeah, it's a
big one. And it's yeah it is, and I yeah,
So I I think the thing that you're the veterans
obviously need health. If you have to pick one guy
though that it would sure be nice if he plays
healthy and completely up to as great as he can
be when healthy. And God knows, I see him every day.

Speaker 5 (46:07):
He looks fantastic.

Speaker 2 (46:08):
I walk in the building, he's walking out. It's every
single day. It's been that way all off season. Is
Dewan Jones. He is essentially a lottery ticket if he
plays healthy, If he stays healthy, he's a first round pick,
Pro Bowl caliber tackle. Yep. But you need him to
and it's a big season for him to be able
to do that. But everything else, I mean, whether it's

(46:29):
Potonio or Teller or Posik or Conklin, the ages getting
up there, the wear and tears getting up there in
a lot of those instances. So that's a big part
of it. Is there an X factor for you here?

Speaker 4 (46:39):
I mean it's got to be Dewan, right, Yeah, I
mean Dewan to me is the X factor. And then
the other kind of X factors are if there are
opportunities for Tevin Jenkins, who could become a long term
solution but he's on a one year deal, or Zack Ziner,
you know, and is he going to play some center
as well as guard. We've seen him get some reps
early in the off season. You know, are they ready?
Are they to be somewhat what we would call air apparents,

(47:05):
because that's really you You kind of need them to
be somewhat air apparents because the likelihood, you know, if
Joel came back for this year, there's a good chance
that this could be only this year, you know, could
be a one year thing. And then on the other side,
it could be for Zack's enter, can he step up,

(47:27):
what's his what's his mode? But then I think, why Teller?
You could see here being more longer term, but that's
not worked out yet. So there's just a lot of
question about this line beyond this year. And that's not
a position that the Cleveland Browns have been in for
quite some time.

Speaker 2 (47:42):
No, we have. During the Callahan regime, you had all sorts.
Not only did you have the first five were great,
but you always had guys behind who you felt very
good about if something happened. It felt like in the
Covid year he was pulling guys off the street and
they were coming in and playing great, and in some
instances he was, you know, So that's part of this

(48:02):
thing as well. Ziner and Whippler are are Whippler was
so good before the injury and getting a full season
when you have that question of who will need to
step up, those guys really need to prove this year
that that's not something that needs to be addressed going forward.
The interior the future of the offensive line, so that
next year when you get to the draft, hopefully you

(48:23):
have a quarterback solution on this roster and then wouldn't
that be something with two first round picks you could
then go get the best tackle on the board as
part of that long term plan there. It gives you
a lot of possibilities. Dwan's a big part of it though,
But those those two young guys in the middle, big
time pedigree, they just set to prove that they are
who we think they.

Speaker 4 (48:41):
Are, correct, correct, So there's going to be I think,
you know, we talk about preseason games being important obviously
in the quarterback position. I think it's gonna be really
important for Zinter and Jenkins and Luke Whippler on the interior,
and then if any of the young guys that are
on this roster playing tackle, if any of them can
show yeah, I can be a part of this as well.
So this is going to be it's going to be interesting,

(49:04):
going to be a testing out all plays out.

Speaker 2 (49:06):
I do think that there will be that this team.
I do think upfront, you will revert to form, and
I think it'll be very beneficial playing in a more
traditional Kevin Stefanski offense.

Speaker 5 (49:15):
Agreed. I think that would be very helpful.

Speaker 2 (49:17):
And I think it's going to be very nice because
there was a disconnect between what we did offensively last year,
I think in the front and I think those will
now be in lockstep. And I think what Joel and
Wyatt and Ethan and Jack are comfortable in is the
wide zone scheme, and I think they're going to roadblock
a lot. I think we're going to run the ball
an awful lot with those backs, and offensive linemen love

(49:40):
doing that, and so it fits their skill set better
than what they were asked to do a year ago.
Very talented, but a lot of questions, and the primary
question is going to be health. You just need guys
to stay healthy. That's Jack, that's Duan, that's obviously Joel,
and Wyatt and Ethan, and then you need those young

(50:00):
guys behind to prove that they are who you think
they are. So this could be a situation where next
year we're looking here and we're like, actually, you don't
have any questions. Swan was a Pro Bowl offensive tackle.
All of those things worked out, but we just need
to see it kind of work itself out over the
course of this season. All right. Coming up at the
top of the hour, Josh Cribs will join the program

(50:22):
he listened to. Cleveland Browns Daily is presented by bally Bet,
official sports betting partner of Your Cleveland Browns on a

Cribs who joins us there? Are you having a good summer, buddy?

Speaker 15 (51:07):
I definitely am.

Speaker 6 (51:08):
I'm enjoying my summer.

Speaker 2 (51:10):
And the heat, well, we never had much, but man,
it's rained basically every day since March. Pal we had
like last week and that was kind of it.

Speaker 6 (51:19):
It was still heat.

Speaker 15 (51:20):
It was still him it and muggy with that. With
that rain and anything but a winter, I love it.

Speaker 2 (51:28):
Anything but winter is good, buddy, absolutely so much.

Speaker 5 (51:32):
God.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
Yes, it was crazy, all right?

Speaker 4 (51:35):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (51:35):
Hard? Ahead?

Speaker 6 (51:37):
Real quickly?

Speaker 15 (51:37):
About that rain? It waters my grass for free. So
you can't forget about that. You gotta look at it
as a positive.

Speaker 2 (51:47):
You are glasses have full today, buddy, He's for.

Speaker 11 (51:50):
It, yes, keeps.

Speaker 6 (51:53):
Man, you gotta be like that in Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (51:55):
Come on now, brother, Josh. You uh does it is
it hard to kind of wrap your head around. Today
is July first, We're gonna be at camp before we
know it, as as you've kind of followed over the
course of this off season, and we get to training camp,
which will be here in just a few weeks. Where
will your eyes go right away when you see this

(52:15):
Cleveland Browns team hit the practice fields for the first time.

Speaker 15 (52:19):
Well, first, of course, is the quarterback battle. It's been
some years before. It's been some years since we had one,
and before that, every year was a quarterback battle, and
that that is you know, sort of the only thing
we usually talk about here was who's going to be
the next quarterback? And is that quarterback in the first
round that we took, you know, going to pan out,

(52:40):
whether it was you know, Brady Quinn, whether it's Colee McCoy,
whether it's Derek Anderson, and the list goes on and on,
and you know, we always had that quarterback a question mark.

Speaker 6 (52:52):
So I'm pretty I'm pretty.

Speaker 15 (52:54):
Excited about the quarterback battle this year because it was
a it plagued us for the last few years and
to have you know, valuable valuable assets at the quarterback
position here, I no matter who the Browns choose on
Week one, I know it's going to be somebody who
can run the offense and score points.

Speaker 2 (53:15):
They always hear people players will say this. They'll say,
you can't fool the room. That if there is an
agenda at the quarterback position, the room will undercut the agenda.
You were a player and you were a part of
these you were on these teams when you had quarterback competitions.
Is there a way to fool the room or is
that true that the room will the room will play

(53:36):
out the way that it's supposed to play out, and
you can't fool players.

Speaker 15 (53:40):
Yeah, it's true to a certain degree. You know, you
can't fool players in the sense that if there is
one player or two getting most of the reps, then
you kind of see that that's the guy right there,
regardless of you know, you know he's completing every pass
or making every read.

Speaker 6 (53:58):
If you know, we gotta understaying football. You know this
NFL life is business. It's business first.

Speaker 15 (54:03):
If you you know you draft the guy here, then
that's the guy you're gonna want to play.

Speaker 6 (54:07):
That's the guy the.

Speaker 15 (54:08):
GM, the general manager's gonna want to play. If not
we're gonna have to answer why did we take this
guy here? And he's not playing and he's behind this guy,
so we always got to keep him mind the business
of the NFL. And and when that, when you talk
about the business of the NFL, and when you see
who you have on this roster, you know, you kind
of align these guys as such. And you know, when

(54:30):
you look at the Browns and you put that in perspective,
we never in in coach the Fantasi's offense. We never needed, uh,
you know, the Lamar Jackson type quarterbacks, Patrick Mahons type court.

Speaker 6 (54:43):
We don't.

Speaker 15 (54:43):
We don't need that guy. We this team. This is
a team offense if ran smoothly and efficiently, you know,
created with balance, with a good running attack, which we
have again you know, possibly the two headed monster led
by Judkins. You know, if we have of that the
balance necessary, then the quarterback is more so a piece

(55:04):
to a bigger puzzle.

Speaker 4 (55:08):
Josh, when you look at it, you mentioned piece of
bigger puzzle. In a division with Lamar Jackson, in a
division with Joe Burrow, and now in a division with
Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 5 (55:15):
How important is it to get that right? And how quickly.

Speaker 4 (55:17):
Do you think in this process, does Kevin Sefancy need
to identify Okay, this is the guy to get him
ready since by the way we play those teams week
one and week two, Joe Burrow, then we go Joe Burrow,
Lamar Jackson, Jared Goff, Jordan Love than Jared Goff.

Speaker 5 (55:35):
Yeah, in your first four weeks.

Speaker 15 (55:37):
Yeah, yeah, it's very important, right, And you know, this
is how you win games.

Speaker 6 (55:43):
You score points. You know, a lot of teams will.

Speaker 15 (55:45):
Point the defense, but it could be zero zero in
the other team, but end up wearing our defense out.

Speaker 6 (55:51):
And kick a field go.

Speaker 15 (55:52):
So we have to score points. So this is the
huge piece, the biggest piece to the puzzle, right And
whoever's there, you know, we'll have guys at the two
and three position and maybe on practice squad will where
I believe Shador Sanders will be. We'll have options to
go deep into our bench that's not a UFL player

(56:17):
or that's not somebody on the dirty roster spot that
we just picked up on a whim. So at each level,
you know, two three, there is depth at the quarterback
position that is the highlight, that is the you know,
antithesis to last season as far as far as how
we were with the quarterback situation. So I think if

(56:38):
you look at this again and how we're constructed, I
think if you look at this team in this division,
we're sitting pretty good. It's not looking bad at all.
If our running backs pan out, that'll make it easier
for whatever quarterback to do the dinks and dunks, and
then it's left up to Kevin Stefanski calling a decent
play and then our defense.

Speaker 6 (56:58):
Has to show up.

Speaker 15 (56:59):
I'm looking forward too, and you asked this the first
question is just not the quarterback battle. I'm looking forward
to that defense being in monster to Mason, you know,
showing why he was our first pick taking you know.
I'm looking to that that those cornerbacks that those the Trio,
I want to see it.

Speaker 6 (57:19):
Are they energized again?

Speaker 15 (57:20):
They were when I played softball with them. They were
trying to win that softball game. So I'm I'm looking
at Emerson, MJ. I'm looking at war and new So I'm.

Speaker 6 (57:32):
Looking at these guys. Are we going to have that
defense that keeps us in games?

Speaker 15 (57:36):
And then our offense with two headed monster that helps
us control in the run pass game.

Speaker 6 (57:41):
So there's multiple.

Speaker 15 (57:42):
Things that make us a complete weapon in the AFC North.

Speaker 2 (57:48):
What does it What does it mean for for cat
So I'm asking you to get inside Kevin's head, but
just to go back to what we believe he wants
to be offensively. Uh, you understand why they did what
the new year ago put de Shawn in the best
position to succeed. But now this will be a return
to what Kevin is most comfortable offensively. How does this
roster fit that better?

Speaker 15 (58:11):
The running game? I think on any team, if you
are able to run the ball, man you can, you
can be a C plus quarterback and your team is
going to the playoffs looking strong. In the AFC North,
it's all about can.

Speaker 6 (58:26):
You run the ball.

Speaker 15 (58:27):
And if you can run the ball effectively, then you
have an offense that can move the chains, that can
play a safe defense that will have to cover the run,
which opens up the pass.

Speaker 6 (58:38):
And we all know that.

Speaker 15 (58:40):
So if coach Kevin Stefanski can can muster up a
decent run attack with these pair of running backs, I
mean he hopefully, because this means that the Browns are
do good. I loved it when coach was winning, you know,
Coach of the Year and having seasons like that when
he's pulling those rabbit out of a hatch.

Speaker 6 (58:59):
But I think if our running backs.

Speaker 15 (59:02):
Are firing on all cylinders, Coach Kevin Stebaski's gonna end
up calling another great season and then all those calls
for you know, our hlad coast to change will all
disappear again.

Speaker 4 (59:13):
Absolutely quite frankly, as they should disappear again. They were
the guy who's done, I think, an incredible job under
very very different circumstances, and he's been able to you know,
as you said, two time Coach of the Year, there
are not many of those in the National Football League
in the history actually of the National Football League. Wanted
to get your thoughts as well on the news that
came out yesterday. I think an incredibly exciting time for

(59:37):
the Browns and their fans and Northeast Ohio.

Speaker 5 (59:40):
The budget has approved.

Speaker 4 (59:41):
The Browns will be moving to Brook Park in twenty
twenty nine with the state of the art enclosed facility,
the enclosed stadium there that is going to be Josh
for a period of time, the greatest stadium and most
technologically advanced, most beautiful stadium on planet Earth. And to
have that in Northeast Ohio. To have that for the
Cleveland Browns, I think pretty exciting. What do you think

(01:00:01):
about that? As a Browns alum and knowing maybe from
a player standpoint, when you have that kind of a facility,
how that can influence players and the game definitely.

Speaker 15 (01:00:10):
And I get this, I get this question asked a
lot and a lot of fans come up to me
and what do you think about the new stadium? And
for me, I'm jealous, you know, not being able to
have played in it, and like, oh man, I wish
I could, you know, put mklets on and run a
touchdown back in it, you know. But overall, I think
it's a tribute to our fans, to our great fan base.

(01:00:33):
And I tell them all this when they ask me.
You know, you guys, as fans, you had a tough
time and a glorious time weathering our outdoor games, rooting
for a team, for a team that hasn't won in
so long. You guys packed the stadium and rain, sweet
snow shine.

Speaker 6 (01:00:51):
You guys are out there.

Speaker 15 (01:00:53):
So look at this as a thank you from this
organization saying you know what, you don't to sit in
the snow no more.

Speaker 6 (01:01:01):
You don't got to.

Speaker 15 (01:01:02):
Whether to storm the rain, whether the team is a
winning team or a losing team. We're gonna put you
in an awesome situation, in an awesome environment and give
you something great as a thank you. And that's what
I tell fans like this is a thank you from
the organization because our fan base deserves to sit in
luxury in a great stadium.

Speaker 6 (01:01:24):
Our fan base.

Speaker 15 (01:01:26):
Deserves this well.

Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
Speaking of fans, you are partnering with True Fan travel
for the trip to London this year is the Browns

you in London for the Browns Travelers program. The trip

dot com slash Browns. The code is July one hundred.
You are a man who likes to have a good time,
my friend. This feels like a win win for everybody.

Speaker 15 (01:02:06):
Yes it is. And I remember the last Brown's London
trip and we had a blast. It's just you know,
every time, you know, I look at that, you know, experience,
that fan experience. You know, fans still come up to
me to this day to talk about the fun we
had in various London pubs, Like you remember that time

(01:02:29):
we went to London and we all had drinks and
then I'm like, yeah, man, yeah, we got.

Speaker 6 (01:02:33):
Kids around here.

Speaker 15 (01:02:35):
You know, we're done in London stings in London, you know.

Speaker 6 (01:02:38):
So I didn't wait to have.

Speaker 15 (01:02:40):
Another fun fan experience with fans who I used to
get in trouble drinking with. I used to go to
tailgates before games, and you know I used to get
in trouble, like what was crib doing at the tailgate
drinking before and not.

Speaker 6 (01:02:56):
That I was drinking, but visiting fans.

Speaker 15 (01:02:58):
So now I get to do this and not getting trouble.
I think it's an amazing opportunity for fans to connect
with you know, alumnis and players from the past, and
you know, I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 6 (01:03:09):
We're gonna have a great time.

Speaker 4 (01:03:11):
It's gonna be awesome and an incredible opportunity to go overseas.
As you mentioned all of that, what do you kind
of think about the proliferation of international games in the NFL,
just not only from the player standpoint, but just in
for fans and what it all means.

Speaker 15 (01:03:27):
I think it's a it's a just an amazing opportunity
that the NFL is bringing because the NFL right now,
if you look at it, and and and the way
it's been going is is geared towards the fan experience.
Like whether you know, we change the rules so that
the players can you know, celebrate and do dances. That's
for the fan experience, so the fans and that children

(01:03:48):
can come. And it's a and it's an experience. It's
not just a game where your team wins or loses.
It's an experience of a lifetime that you know you'll
never forget with your family. And then and then this
their national experience. Man, you get to go on vacation.

Speaker 6 (01:04:04):
That's an experience.

Speaker 15 (01:04:06):
By itself and with your favorite team, Like this is
a moment of you know that some people will only
get to live once, and if you can only do
it once, why not enjoy that with your fans, with
your favorite team. So I think, you know, having this
sets us apart from any other league. You know, I'm

(01:04:27):
not sure if the NBA does this, but I know
that the NFL and the Browns right now are doing
the right thing for its fans.

Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Just you ever been to London?

Speaker 6 (01:04:38):
I have.

Speaker 15 (01:04:38):
I went to our last That was the first time
I went to London. Was our last game we played
in London against the Vikings years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
What are you looking to run back in terms of
sites in those type of things, And then what didn't
you do the last time that you're most looking forward
to do this time.

Speaker 15 (01:04:59):
Oh, that's good question. And so the sight's big ben.
You know, we were able to ride around on a
tour bus.

Speaker 6 (01:05:06):
You know what.

Speaker 15 (01:05:07):
The Browns actually laid it out last time. Like I
got to go around town on a tour bus with
a drum line, throw people from London and fans Brown's memorabilia,
take shots with people on the street.

Speaker 6 (01:05:20):
I mean, we were.

Speaker 15 (01:05:21):
Wilding out in London and a lot of times I
had to like make my daughter, make my family look
away so I can have a moment with fans. So
it was a great time. I think one of the
things I'm looking forward to doing this time is is
kind of trying to repeat that experience as much as possible.
I tried to live it up, so there's not something

(01:05:43):
that I wanted to do that I didn't get to
do the first time.

Speaker 6 (01:05:46):
I'm just trying to grab.

Speaker 15 (01:05:47):
A little bit of bad experience from the first trip,
trying to remake that happen again.

Speaker 4 (01:05:55):
And it was kind of a it was imagine time
my first game in the booth with Jim Dimond in
the stands. Yeah, we're in the stands. There was no
radio booth. We were literally in the stands.

Speaker 5 (01:06:04):
It was wild.

Speaker 4 (01:06:04):
This I think will be a much different experience, obviously
going over there. For you to be a beloved alum,
to be as good as you were on the field
and all the accolades that you achieved and all of that,
to still kind of have that connection that you have
with this team, this organization.

Speaker 5 (01:06:20):
You get to do.

Speaker 4 (01:06:21):
Things like this and go on the cruise and do
all the various fan things you get to do. How
kind of rewarding is that to you? And is it
kind of surreal that you know you truly have made
you know, this football family your family here in this area.

Speaker 15 (01:06:37):
Yes, it is so real. I like that to use
that word because you know, a lot of times, especially
when I was playing, you know, we would spend time
with fans, but very sparingly, you know, and you know
the creation of the cruise and you know the you know,
the Vegas takeover that true fans put on, and now
the London takeover. You know that that is something that again,

(01:07:02):
you know, if I was just a fan and I
have played, I would have wanted to take my son
on something like this. That'll be a memory that my
family would never forget. We could be able to show
those pictures even over games like I went to London
with the Browns and Josh Crest.

Speaker 6 (01:07:19):
You know, to have these experiences.

Speaker 15 (01:07:21):
So you know, I again I applaud the efforts because
it brings fans closer to its players. It's legends, and
it makes being a fan that much more great. And
you know, Browns fans, in my opinion, are the best fans.
You know, not having won of Super Bowl in years,
but we have the greatest fan base and sometimes the

(01:07:41):
worst climate, but yet our fans stay loyal. So I
think this is a moment that loyal fans could appreciate
and it's our way of saying thank you and this
is why I go on trips like this.

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
Hey man, it is great talking to you. We appreciate
your time and look forward to the trip to London
in the fall. Thanks buddy.

Speaker 15 (01:08:00):
Absolutely, guys, have fun today, take care and love you all. Right.

Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
There you go. And a reminder to our fans, a
True Fan Travel is providing our fans with an exclusive

Speaker 11 (01:09:09):
Christian, it looks real fan.

Speaker 2 (01:09:13):
Everything is exaggeration or am.

Speaker 11 (01:09:16):
I close to being on the market? You are very
close to on the mark. He's got really strong hands.

Speaker 16 (01:09:20):
He tracks the ball well, and you see it on
tape every time he's been playing when you study him
and where we were getting ready to see what he
would be for us, and the guy catches everything, tracks
the ball well and really adjusts to the ball in
the the ball in the Airwell.

Speaker 12 (01:09:35):
You guys got him mark for a drops working Minica.

Speaker 16 (01:09:39):
I had to go back in the files. I don't
think he's had to drop an easy drop. He might
have had a contested catch drop, but I don't think
he had well.

Speaker 7 (01:09:46):
Christian, what about his uh after the catch creation ability?
It seems like that's something that shows up on his
college film too. How have you guys seen that?

Speaker 16 (01:09:54):
I know it's no contact. Yeah, he's decisive and he's balanced.

Speaker 11 (01:09:59):
He has a lot a balance in his play, so.

Speaker 16 (01:10:01):
He really tacklers fall off of him. He tends to
keep his feet running when somebody's coming at him, and
he does a really good job of knowing whether to
split or just make one miss and being really efficient
and high runs the ball. I think that's where he
really shows up, is he's balanced and efficient, and that's
something you're always gonna see, is that accumulates in the
extra yards and somebody pops up and you're like, oh wow,
why does he have eight hundred nine of yards? It's

(01:10:22):
because of those little decisions.

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
So I would say that what's.

Speaker 7 (01:10:25):
The biggest digestion for a for a young tight end
coming into the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
What's the thing there going?

Speaker 16 (01:10:30):
I would say the breadth of the playbook as well
as the amount of defensive looks that you have to
look at even in the offseason. Right, we're wasting, You're
facing normal force, deep four down front. But Schwartz's defense,
they'll put anything in, they'll run anything. So now he's
looking at a six one in front, he's looking at
some kind of underfront like it could be anything, and
he has to be ready to think quickly as well

(01:10:50):
as be ready for ten, twelve, thirty different calls on
the debt.

Speaker 14 (01:10:54):
Do you think you will understand how complicated. Playing tight
end does.

Speaker 16 (01:10:57):
The l It's a little unappreciated, hard to be appreciated more.
But I still think there's a lot to learn about
playing tight end the NFL.

Speaker 15 (01:11:05):
And what about how stated?

Speaker 7 (01:11:07):
I know we only saw, but what just be your
first impressions in football?

Speaker 14 (01:11:13):
And third impressive?

Speaker 5 (01:11:14):
He brings a lot of energy.

Speaker 16 (01:11:15):
He loves football and brings a lot of energy, and
he wants to be out there playing and supporting his teammate.
I think that's something that I've sayed from the day
he came in and when we talked a little bit
earlier before I even got him to Cleveland, is he
loves his teammates, wants to play, and he wants to
get back to the level that he's been at.

Speaker 11 (01:11:29):
He really takes his.

Speaker 16 (01:11:30):
Game seriously and that's been great to have in the room.
And forgot to see the scale of.

Speaker 11 (01:11:34):
Tight end appreciation.

Speaker 2 (01:11:35):
You said we've made some progress.

Speaker 5 (01:11:37):
Yeah, what progress have we made?

Speaker 11 (01:11:39):
And then what do we still not play?

Speaker 4 (01:11:41):
Well?

Speaker 16 (01:11:41):
We finally have a was a tight end appreciation day, right,
We got tight ends Day.

Speaker 11 (01:11:44):
We got T shirts that are going around the league.

Speaker 16 (01:11:46):
So I'd say it's that, and it's it's using bigger
personnels to try and create passing opportunities, staying a smaller
person else to run the ball.

Speaker 11 (01:11:53):
It's just being versatile.

Speaker 16 (01:11:55):
On how you approach the game and how you approach
game planning and using tight ends in different positions. They
don't always have a block, They don't always have to
run routes that are love of the game.

Speaker 5 (01:12:03):
Not we love those, We need to do those right.

Speaker 16 (01:12:05):
But Titans can be playmakers and I think we're starting
to see a lot more athletic players show up and
I think the game will change as that happens.

Speaker 10 (01:12:12):
You're this position under Devin Stefanski has been sort of
approving grounds.

Speaker 5 (01:12:16):
So yeah, it's a position he really is.

Speaker 11 (01:12:19):
That a big part of it that you have to
be involved in so.

Speaker 7 (01:12:22):
Many aspects of the offense and just sort of understand
every piece.

Speaker 11 (01:12:25):
Of the offense. Yeah, you hit it right on the money.

Speaker 16 (01:12:27):
You have to be involved in every aspect of the
offense and typically don't have as much meeting time as
quarterbacks would get. Right when special teams are going on,
the Titans are in special teams meetings, So you have
to be really efficient with your time, and typically the
Titans have to be really smart because they have to
be able to digest everything quickly and apply that on
the field, right, And they have to do a lot
of studying on their own. So you gotta find guys

(01:12:48):
that are self sufficient, want to work, will look for
you to work, but also we'll do it on their
own as well.

Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
So it takes a lot of work in the building
and outside.

Speaker 7 (01:12:55):
I would say when you talk about.

Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
Data beam like so motivated.

Speaker 11 (01:12:59):
I know here last year with him, but if.

Speaker 7 (01:13:01):
He went through so many manging injuries, like, has he
talked about that or expressed frustration with the year and
wanting to to put that behind him?

Speaker 16 (01:13:09):
Yeah, I mean he had a tough year last year,
a lot of things going on with injuries, and I
think he fought through them all well, like he's always gonna.

Speaker 11 (01:13:14):
Try and be out on the field.

Speaker 16 (01:13:16):
And that's something that I've heard and the scene expressed
from him. And yeah, that's as it's visible frustration when
you asked him how the last year went. That's the
first thing we talk about, rights injuries, how it held
him back and what he wants to do as a player, right,
be out there every game that he can and play
as many snaps as he can. I think that's something
that he's aiming to do this year and I'm excited
to see it.

Speaker 11 (01:13:33):
Then everything that's on the tight ends played to be.

Speaker 14 (01:13:35):
Then you add in the fact that Harold was kind
of flows in the position.

Speaker 11 (01:13:39):
How do you balance pushing.

Speaker 16 (01:13:41):
Him and being impatient with him to always gonna be
all pushing like, you gotta push him and make it
and see where you know at some point rookies always
hit a wall right with the installs, with the amount
of defenses they see. So you try to push him
up until that wall and then find ways new ways
to teach them, new ways to help them, learn new
ways to retain itmation so that way they can keep
pushing past it. I think that's something that always happens guys.

(01:14:04):
Once you get to install whatever five to six guys
start to it starts.

Speaker 11 (01:14:07):
To flood their head.

Speaker 16 (01:14:08):
You gotta find ways to bring them back. Think, think,
think through things clearly, and then approach it maybe a
different way.

Speaker 13 (01:14:14):
So I think that you win a lot more.

Speaker 11 (01:14:17):
There's the future that's where you need and want to.

Speaker 16 (01:14:21):
Uh, that's a great question. I think as the game evolves,
as nutrition gets better, weight training continues to grow.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
And players.

Speaker 16 (01:14:30):
Obviously, guys are getting bigger, faster, stronger, So I think
you're just gonna see a lot more athletic players out there,
and I think you're gonna see guys running a lot
more unique routes. I think we've got there's a lot
of there's a lot of tight ends in the class
this year that are really athletic and could go out
and line up that number one and one run routes
and win. And Herold has done that in college as well,
So I think you're gonna see a lot of tight
ends that can be efficient receivers, both in the slot

(01:14:51):
attached and even out at.

Speaker 11 (01:14:52):
Number one versus press coverage.

Speaker 5 (01:14:53):
I think that'll happen at some.

Speaker 14 (01:14:54):
Point, especially cast here, like he really came out for
you knew guys, He's gonna take care.

Speaker 16 (01:15:07):
I I it was kind of a whirlwind, cause I
kind of like I was just sitting there waiting to
see what would happen. That gets a little bit different
than every team, But once I saw the name flash up,
it was a lot of excitement, and I got to
know him through the process, so I was honestly just
more happy for him and excited for him and his
family he'd been through a lot and his family been
through a lot and got getting to meet them. They're
all really close and they all support each other, so

(01:15:28):
I know what it means for a family to to
have somebody accomplish something.

Speaker 11 (01:15:31):
Everybody feels like they helped. So I was more excited
for them.

Speaker 15 (01:15:34):
What do you like kind of talk about your time
because skilfuls falling like all back in age mill that's
have a specialist that I mean kind of like seeing
his excitement.

Speaker 11 (01:15:43):
And people things that change like all these Yeah, that
was great.

Speaker 16 (01:15:47):
I couldn't see much because he was trying to put
his ear to the phone to hear me, cause it
was a lot of screaming going on.

Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
But I could tell by you know, you could tell
by the tone.

Speaker 16 (01:15:54):
And everything that's going on in the background that they're excited.

Speaker 5 (01:15:56):
So that's all I really needed to see.

Speaker 11 (01:15:58):
All I told him was time to work.

Speaker 16 (01:16:00):
I'm not here to high five you, I shake your
handsake congratulations. But once you step in and doing this,
time to go to work. So that's the first thing
I told him this' well I tell him every day.

Speaker 11 (01:16:08):
All right, there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
Tight ends coach Christian Jones from Mandatory mini camp. The
tight end room as follows. David Njoku, Harold Fan and
Junior Blake White, Art, Brennan Bates, and Sal Kanala. Those
are your tight ends. This is a room that will
be leaned upon heavily offensively this season, especially in the
past game.

Speaker 4 (01:16:25):
Doc di Zi, Yeah, and I think we're gonna play
a lot of twelve personnel, much like we talked about
yesterday that you think you know down in Pittsburgh that
they're going to play a lot of twelve personnel. And
what do they say, Oh, we see John new Smith
as that second tight end, but we also see him
as a big slot receiver. Well what have I been
saying about Harold Fan and Jr. I see him as
a second tight end, but I also see him as
a big slot receiver. One thing the Browns need to do, though,

(01:16:47):
was get the ball to David Djoku further down the field.
Last year career low seven point nine yards per catch.
That is hard for me to get my head around.
And you go back to when David Adjoku was at
his best, it was twenty twenty one to twenty two.
I know when twenty three went to the Pro Bowl,
he had that excellent run with Flacco. His stats were

(01:17:07):
booied bigly by the five games with Joe Flacco. But
that's where David Djoku's been at his best, and that's
more in the traditional offense. I think the times the
periods where David Joku's numbers have been well down over
the last three seasons, it's been the times where it
has been kind of that different offense that was put
into cater more to Deshaun. I think that you're going

(01:17:28):
to see David Joku do very well in this offense.
And I think Harold Fannin as well is going to
do very well. But you want to get to chieve
back to Pro Bowl. For me, is one of the
best two way tight ends. What I mean by that
is pass catching but also blocking. Uh and and now
you add in Fannin, who I think it's going to
be more of a receiver. That's why I'm not as
worried about our receiver room as some people may be,

(01:17:49):
because I kind of see fan In as a as
a receiver. I think you line him up as a
big slot in this and he's going to be very effective.

Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
Then do you think that this room is fully formed
or do you think there's opportunity you need to add
to it.

Speaker 13 (01:18:02):
This room.

Speaker 4 (01:18:03):
Yeah, you know they like Blake Whiteheart a lot. But yes,
of course there's opportunity to add to this room. It's
a very very important room.

Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
So that wouldn't Yeah, if you're gonna shock me, if
you're gonna kind of rob Peter to pay Paul a
little bit in the receiver room, then I think you
might want another.

Speaker 5 (01:18:17):
You want a third tight end that you know can block.

Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
I mean Pittsburgh's got three.

Speaker 5 (01:18:20):
Yep, you want to third tight end.

Speaker 2 (01:18:23):
There's gonna be somebody else you need. I think one more.
Maybe what's reasonable for Harold Fan and Junior in near one.

Speaker 4 (01:18:32):
Move the chains important catch. I don't know from a
statistical standpoint what that's going to look like. I don't know,
you know, number one, how much we're gonna throw for.
But I think Harold Fannon being a chess piece, the
reasonable expectation is he's a chess piece, that he plays
a good deal, and that he makes some big catches
good after the catch, that he's a seal contribber.

Speaker 5 (01:18:50):
Maybe that's you know, you go back to what was.

Speaker 4 (01:18:51):
Like Chief's rocky year three thirty two catches throwing eighty
six yards four touchdowns.

Speaker 5 (01:18:55):
That feels kind of reasonable to me for Harold Fanning
this year.

Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
Do you think you'll be top four in this team
in reception?

Speaker 5 (01:19:09):
Possible, possible, top six for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:19:11):
Judy Chief. Judy Chief should better be Tillman.

Speaker 5 (01:19:16):
Maybe a third down running back.

Speaker 4 (01:19:17):
And then I would say, whoever kind of emerges that
second receiver between Tilman and Deontay Johnson.

Speaker 5 (01:19:22):
I think that there are people who think.

Speaker 4 (01:19:24):
Deontay Johnson, if motivated and in the right frame of mind,
is going to be a very effective player for this team.

Speaker 5 (01:19:32):
Hope.

Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
So certainly, certainly two years ago and most of his
career was that last year was was kind of a
little bit different. Yeah, there you go. There is your
Tide end room. We are back to naming our Browns
quarter century team. I'll let you choose your own adventure
running back or offensive line, which you do. We'll do
running back, We'll do running back, We'll do the running
back room. Coming up next. You listen to Clear the

(01:20:51):
together that offense in the backfield where we are picking
the running back room.

Speaker 5 (01:20:58):
All right, let's do it. I think we're gonna go
four running backs.

Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
Yeah, let's see, so we're at all right, so two qbs.
Here is the list among others. Although you made the
case for Jerome Harrison yesterday, he's on donald list. He's
at it, Nick Chubb, Jamal Lewis, Isaiah Crowell, Peyton Hillis,
Kareem Hunt, Deernest Johnson, William Green, Reuben Drones, Duke Johnson,

(01:21:25):
Trent Richardson, Jerome Ford, and Jerome Harrison. It's a really
good list. Yeah, yeah, so it's not quite as strong
as the offensive line list, but it's a very good list.

Speaker 4 (01:21:35):
Well, we're gonna get our four easy, I mean, let's
go ahead, and Nick Chubb's the starter.

Speaker 2 (01:21:39):
Let's have a Nick Chubb conversation quickly here, because I
think Nick Chubb is also one of the two running
backs on the I think he's this is he the starter,
He is the starter him and no, No, on the
All Time it's him and Jim Brown.

Speaker 5 (01:21:52):
List, it's Leroy Kelly, It's Chubb, Marion Motley.

Speaker 2 (01:21:59):
That's kind of a that's a tough one. It's kind everything. Yeah,
Motley would probably, he would certainly.

Speaker 5 (01:22:07):
Leroy Kelly like right now. I mean, here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (01:22:10):
You've got Jim Brown in the Hall of Fame, You've
got Leroy Kelly in the Hall of Fame, and you've
got Mary Mottley in the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (01:22:17):
Yeah, Chubb makes the team. I think he's I think
he makes.

Speaker 5 (01:22:22):
On our All Time team. Yeah, but he might be
like RB four.

Speaker 2 (01:22:27):
I don't. I don't have any point of reference on
Leroy Kelly, but I think that there was definitely I
mean I'm aware of statistically, but I don't have any
point in terms of watching him play. No, that there
was certainly a stretch when I would have said Nick
Chubb was the best running back in football.

Speaker 4 (01:22:39):
Yes, Unfortunately, I think for Nick Chubb, it was a
a three year, four year run.

Speaker 5 (01:22:45):
So just Leroy Kelly, give you just just yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:22:48):
Led the league in rushing twice, led the league in
touchdowns three times, led the league in yards from scrimmage
and touchdowns twice a piece. Was in a his best
four year stretch. He was first team, first team, first
Team's second team. He was six straight years as a
pro bowler. He was He had three seasons where he
was top four in the MVP voting. So that's that's

(01:23:08):
the Hall of Famer All nineteen sixty team. That's the
thing with Nick Chubb is great and beyond reproach. He's
a four time pro bowler. He is a one time
second team All Pro. Never was a first team All Pro.
And unfortunately, just because of I think like it would
be hard for him to be on an All decade team,
just because of the quickness and also the competition that

(01:23:29):
he's faced at his position. So when you look at that,
and then here's the one that I had to get
educated on in my four eight to the Cleveland Browns.
But you know, Marriyan Motley, two time first team All Pro,
two times second team All Pro, obviously a completely different
game era all of it for sure, don't.

Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
Get me kill.

Speaker 5 (01:23:48):
And then Jim Brown, that's best player ever.

Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:23:52):
And then one of the other ones that you'd have
to look at from it was the one from the
Brown standpoint as well. And I don't know if he's
a pure running back, but I mean on some level
he's a running back. Was Bobby Mitchell, who is also
in the Hall of Fame as four time Pro Bowler,
First Team All Pro, Top three in MVP voting. He's
a guy that's got seven hundred yard rushing seasons under

(01:24:13):
his belt, average five point three yards per kerry for
his career, and also has multiple thirteen hundred and eighty
four plus yard receiving seasons under his belt. I mean,
he was a receiver, but he's also played half back.
He was a flanker and a half back and again
completely different here. A hard to put your to get
your head around that, but not for our conversation obviously,
when you're talking of all the time, five Pro Bowls
for him.

Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
Yeah, it's a good group, all right. So Chubb's on
this list though he's obviously the starter.

Speaker 4 (01:24:38):
Yes, Chubb is on this list, and Chubb is the
starter I think RB two is Jamal Lewis, and people
would say.

Speaker 5 (01:24:46):
Hey, he's like a raven and all that, But how
long was he here? What wasmu?

Speaker 4 (01:24:49):
Lewis was here for three seasons two thousand and seven,
two and two thousand and nine.

Speaker 5 (01:24:53):
He went thirteen hundred and four and nine. Then he
had it.

Speaker 4 (01:24:56):
He had back to back thousand yard seasons coming off
of that big He was the Comeback Player of the
Year in two thousand and seven, number fourth in that voting.
Obviously his best part of his careers with the Ravens. Yeah,
but thirteen hundred and four yards that was the most
that he had, so he was his big year is
two thousand and three, ran for two thousand and sixty
six yards with the Ravens. Thirteen hundred and four with
the Browns in two thousand and seven was the most

(01:25:17):
he had since that two thousand and three season. I said,
when you're looking at the body of wark here, you've
got Jamal Lewis had the multiple thousand yard seasons. I
don't know that there's anybody else that had multiple thousand
yard seasons because Peyton hillis.

Speaker 5 (01:25:32):
Who I would probably Chubb.

Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
Other than Chubb Paynonillis, who had put on this team
I think is a one year wonder. So you're like
Peyton Hillis, you're getting real specific. You're saying twenty ten paint,
just like Derek Anderson saying two thousand and seven Baker Mayfield.
Are kind of saying the twenty and twenty Baker Mayfield, right, Like, Yeah,
there's a couple, there's some that are very specific. Nick Chubb,
this is a harder one to do. Got four years,
Jamal Lewis would be kind of you know that two

(01:25:55):
thousand and seven Jamal Lewis, twenty ten Peyton Hillis. Then
I'll get here. I'm gonna throw out just the best
seasons and kind of stretch. So Kareem hunts best year
with the Browns is twenty twenty, and he goes in
that season eleven hundred and forty five total yards and
eleven touchdowns. Okay, the only other person there are only

(01:26:19):
three other people that I think might even be in
the conversation here, And I know you're gonna laugh at this. However,
Duke Johnson had a stretch of four out of five
years over eight hundred total yards. That's better than honestly
anybody else on this list. I'm not saying you put
him on there, but his best season was twenty and seventeen,
and that year he had one thousand and forty one

(01:26:39):
total yards and seven touchdowns, cut seventy four passes six
hundred and ninety three yards. You've got Jerome Harrison and
that would be the magical part of the end of
the two thousand and nine season. And Jerome Harrison in
that three game stretch rushes for basically six hundred yard

(01:27:00):
yards and five touchdowns. Wild Yeah, he ran for two
hundred and eighty plus yards against Kansas City in a game.

Speaker 2 (01:27:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:27:06):
I think he still holds a record for the Browns
for the most rushing yards in a single game. I
don't know if that gets him onto this team. It's
certainly the best three game stretch.

Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
Were those games important, No.

Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
But they were all wins on its season where they
won five games. Most rushing yards in a game, I'm
always worried.

Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
That's kind of my thing, Like people who put up
can and it's not their fault, but they just put
up stats where there isn't other options.

Speaker 4 (01:27:34):
Yeah, he still holds a record two hundred and eighty
six yards Broke Jim Brown single game franchise running record
December twenty, two thousand nine thirty four times for two
hundred and eighty six yards and three touchdowns. Mean, it's
just it's an unfathomable performance. In fact, I'm pretty sure
it's the second most.

Speaker 5 (01:27:54):
In a game ever. Could that be right?

Speaker 7 (01:27:56):
This?

Speaker 2 (01:27:56):
Does somebody go for three hundred ap.

Speaker 4 (01:27:59):
Two hundred, two hundred ninety six November fourth, two thousand
and seven against the Chargers. Jamal Lewis two and ninety
five against the Browns. Jerome Harrison two eighty six against
the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (01:28:09):
A crazy game, just kind of out of nowhere.

Speaker 4 (01:28:11):
And the most recent big one is twenty twenty four
Saquon Barkley this year two fifty five against the Rams. Yeah,
so it's a it's I mean, that is astounding to me.
That is the third most rushing yards in a game.
What was like?

Speaker 2 (01:28:24):
Who remembers that game? Like, it's just who knows.

Speaker 4 (01:28:27):
Here's what's wild about it is so ap Hall of
Famer Jamal Lewis was incredibly good. The other people in
the top ten of single game performances ever Corey Byllon,
Walter Payton, O J. Simpson Shawn Alexander, Jamal, Charles Saquon,
Barkie Barkley, DeMarco Murray, Jonathan Taylor, and then Jerome Harritt.

Speaker 5 (01:28:46):
Like, so he has the outliar of outliers.

Speaker 2 (01:28:49):
All right, So my vote here's Kareem Hunt.

Speaker 5 (01:28:51):
I thought that was my initial vote.

Speaker 4 (01:28:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:28:53):
I just think the other thing with Kareem is he
was in a job share with Nick. Yep. His personality
is a ten out of ten, and in many ways
he was kind of the heartbeat of the success we
had in the teens in the early twenties. He was
kind of the heartbeat of it. He was such a leader,
him coming back after Nick got hurt all of it,
and I think he's the I think he his career

(01:29:13):
is an interesting one because I think if if it's
offield stuff steppened early, who knows what happens with what
is league and rushing his ro here. Yeah, So to me,
he's the fourth. I'm very happy with Nick, Jamal Payton
and Kareem.

Speaker 5 (01:29:25):
Yeah. That's a and it's a that's a darn good group.

Speaker 2 (01:29:28):
And now you can have one as a wild card
as we build towards the fifty threes, because you might
be able to keep five of these guys. If there's
another position room that isn't isn't maybe as strong. Yeah,
so much more more to come. He listen to Cleveland
