Speaker 1 (00:07):
Welcome to the From the Podium podcast, where we feature
all of our daily press conferences rolled into one podcast
to help you get ready for the twenty twenty five
regular season. I'm Brock Danny Heap, and on today's episode,
you'll hear from QB coach Bill Musgrave, quarterbacks Shader Sanders
and Dylan Gabriel, defensive line coach Shoxy Sare, linebacker Jerome Baker,

(00:31):
and head coach Kevin Stefanski. From day three of training camp.
First up, QB's coach Bill Musgrave talks about the competition
for the starting quarterback position.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Where have you seen the biggest strides from the two
rookies from just from when you first got your hands
on them in rookie mini caamp to now, Oh.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
There have been a lot of strides.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
The two biggest ones are probably presenting the play in
the huddle and then also be an under center. Neither
guy has a lot of time on task doing either
one of those tasks. So the more experience we can
give 'em here in a short period of time, of course,
the better off will be.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
And they both made great strides.

Speaker 5 (01:09):
Yeah, coach, right right now?

Speaker 6 (01:10):
What's new every day versus what's carryover from the spring.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
A lot of carryover, A lot of carryovers. So I
know Tommy and Kevin have done a great job with
the installation and for the entire offense. There's some uh
significant new wrinkles as you can imagine from last year
and the year before, but there's also a lot of continuity,
so a lot of carryover from from the spring. We're
getting to get more turns at everything.

Speaker 7 (01:34):
Cause this like I think first summer we're talking to
you sometime.

Speaker 8 (01:37):
What was it like as like senior offensive assistant and
then obviously like you know, kind of trap promotion and
I'll transition into this new world.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Yeah, just really excited about being to Cleveland Brown. First
two years, UH tried to help out in certain roles
and now being in the QB room where I really
started my career years and years ago, is uh is great.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Great to be back in the saddle bill.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
It looks like, Uh, Gabriel appears he had the natural
play faking. Is that surprising to you do it the
last couple of years, It is surprising. He He's done
a really super job with especially the under center play
faking and the footwork. He's remarkably clean being asked to
do those type of techniques.

Speaker 9 (02:18):
There's so much strengths that uh Shador has been exhibiting
so far. And how has he progressed since we first
saw him?

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Like in rookie kids, Yeah, both rookies, Shadoor especially, both
rookies have really progressed. There's a lot of newness for
all rookies at all positions, jumping from college to the
NFL game. And both these guys have uh progressed each
and every day They'll get more and more familiar. So
as you can sense from the tone of my voice,
it's a blast to work with both of 'em. Uh,

(02:46):
They're both gonna have outstanding careers, I do believe, And
so we're just at the tip of the iceberg right now.

Speaker 10 (02:53):
There's so much as a coach, do you think key
for you guys to balancing out those reps like you
are the veterans and the but also evaluating what you're
seeing out there and and trying to figure out, yeah,
what y what you're getting from what they were matched out.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
No, it's a del it's a delicate balance, like you implied,
it's very delicate, and both Tommy and Kevin the way
they script the practice and orchestrate the installation. They take
everything into account, so they're doing a fantastic job. The
guys are getting different turns in different scenarios, both the
veterans talking about Kenny and Joe as well as the

(03:27):
young guys and Dylan and Shador. So they're all supporting
one another. There's great synergy in the room. Uh So
I really like the direction that all four guys are headed.

Speaker 11 (03:38):
H Dion uh Gione Sanders has always been very vocal
about your guys' relationships over the years, and what does
it sort of mean to you sort of have this
rerow circle moment where now you're coaching his son at
the NFL.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Yeah, makes me feel old. Uh both of us, I
think are fifty seven, fifty eight years old. That was
thirty years ago that Uh we were thick as thieves.
They were with the forty nine ers that year. And
so it's been great to stay in touch over the
years and watch all of his kids grow up and
become young adults. So really fun to be associated with Shador,

(04:12):
you know, at this level, Kevin said.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Fancy said that after tomorrow's practice, the Offensive.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Coaches movie How to Proceed.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
With the four quarterback situation.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
What might you suggest at that meeting?

Speaker 12 (04:25):
How would you like it to go starting Monday?

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Well, yeah, it'll be a great meeting on Sunday because
we'll have these four plays, which is really these four
days which are block one, and then next week we
start putting the pads on, which is great. The more
we can simulate game type situations for the qbs, the better,
the better off the will be. So next week will
be important, and I don't know if there'll be any
earth shattering or earth shaking changes. I think it'll be

(04:49):
a lot of more of the same. All four guys
are really making good progress, and Tommy and Kevin are
doing a great job of getting everybody their looks.

Speaker 13 (04:56):
Hey, Bill, there's so much external pressure are observations on
Shador just because of who he is, and they'll be
you'll probably see that.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Out here today with the failings.

Speaker 13 (05:07):
So how do you, as a a quarterback coach shelter
him from that or prepare him for that?

Speaker 4 (05:14):
I think I was blessed to learn a lot from
my coaches, whether it be Mike Shanahan or Mike Holmgren
or Gary Kubiak about there are external pressures for everybody,
and especially for Shador, but there are for Dylan and
Kennyan and as well as with Joe. The focus has
got to be on the work. The focus has got
to be on the techniques, the five step drop, the

(05:36):
seven step drop, being accurate with our throes and really,
if we can focus on our trade, the external factors,
uh take a back seat, which is where they should remain.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Any saying yesterday.

Speaker 9 (05:50):
That, uh, he came back being a lot more comfortable
in the scheme and he kind of assimilated it over
those five weeks, have you noticed that that he's a
little bit more fish in, a little bit more comfortable
in the.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Office of Definitely, I'm glad to hear that he said
that because his first two days have been stellar. He
had one throw where he was late yesterday resulted in interception,
which is okay. We we don't want interceptions, but at
times we learn a lot from when we stub our toe,
even more than when we have our triumphs. But he's
had his share of triumphs these last two days, especially

(06:21):
thrown on the run, incredibly accurate for just jumping back
into camp after us being off for a number of
weeks this summer, we talked so much.

Speaker 14 (06:29):
About mental reps. What do you stress to those guys
is they're.

Speaker 10 (06:33):
Not taking the physical reps watching and trying to.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
Learn MOSS to them, Yeah, there's there's only so many plays,
you know, in practice, and so when you do get
a a true rep, Uh, that's invaluable when someone else
is in there. We're trying to go through it in
our mind and get a a mental rep as you
alluded to.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Those are helpful.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Uh, they're just obviously not the same as the authentic ones.
But uh, we're trying to do our very best to
make use of every single time, whether we're in the
play or we're standing fifteen yards back.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (07:03):
It was curious if you could kind of, I guess,
kind of get like an inside up for for the layman, Like,
w we're out there, we're watching the different drills and
different team drills, and you know, I think that there's
sometimes maybe you guys are looking for different things, whether
it be red.

Speaker 15 (07:16):
Zone or grabbing the ball down fields.

Speaker 6 (07:18):
So can you kind of just give like a kind
of inside.

Speaker 15 (07:20):
And look into some of those different sessions.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
No, you're right, the different sessions have different areas. Of
emphasis whether we're in the red area or at times
we're working on our pass protection and quarter turned adjust
in our pass protection at the line of scrimmage with
the quarterbacks need to have a working knowledge of At
times it's just first and ten, second and one to six, uh,
where we can do run and play actions. So those
are all great scenarios, uh for us to get timed

(07:44):
on task with.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
So you haven't been asked a question about Flack oh yet?
So here's mine good that's forty years old. Is he
looked like a four year old? No?

Speaker 4 (07:52):
No, he's still he still can wing it. I I've
met Joe when he was sixteen or seventeen years old
in high school and watched him pitch sit next to
his dad when we were trying to recruit him to
Virginia when I was coaching there under al grow and
he ended up going to pitt But to watch Joe
throw a baseball there his junior year in high school
and you know, touch ninety two, ninety four, and then

(08:14):
to see where his football.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Career has gone has just been incredible.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
And he's still, of course is a complete six foot
six flame thrower.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
So y, we're so glad he's on our team.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
As far as uh armed armed talent in the NFL,
would you say he's.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Still top ten or did he yes?

Speaker 4 (08:27):
Uh, yes, definitely, I would say he's definitely a elite,
definitely a top five, top ten billy.

Speaker 14 (08:33):
Yesterday when uh Joe was talking to us, he talked
about like the importance.

Speaker 12 (08:36):
Of staying in the moment each day.

Speaker 5 (08:38):
Yes, rapt Like.

Speaker 14 (08:38):
For the younger guys, especially when it's Dylan and Shadhar's
first time going through this, how do you think they
are doing that so far?

Speaker 3 (08:45):
They're doing the best they can. It's a lot. It's
a lot for any.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
Young player, Uh, whether you're the top pick in the
draft or the last ye there's just there's just a
lot of adjustment between college defenses and pro defenses, and
so the way they allow, the way they disguise, the
way they study us, they know us better than we
know ourselves. So it's just it's a lot for any QB.
And our two guys are doing a really wonderful job

(09:09):
at handling all that.

Speaker 16 (09:12):
With the two joint workouts and evaluating four quarterbacks.

Speaker 11 (09:16):
How more beneficial is that besides.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
The games, It'll be good for our QBS, but it'll
be good for all of us, especially seeing a different
scheme than what we see with Coach Swarts each and
every day, which is great, very multiple. We're getting well
versed in NFL defense when we face Coach Swarts and
those characters out there every day, but working against Carolina
and Philadelphia coming up here in August, we're really thankful

(09:39):
that those those dates are on the docket.

Speaker 17 (09:42):
Bill with Bill with the kind of scarcity of reps
for each quarterback and the way what yesterday you know,
his red zone eleven and eleven period was snaps really
threw him off.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
What do you try to get for that? I mean,
when when you have a situation like that, what did
are I mean, how can you make the most out
of those kind of you know, blown up plays for
for the quarterback?

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (10:07):
I think we'll Well, we did our best yesterday with
repeating those plays, but you're right, when something goes awry,
that's a lost opportunity and they're only limited opportunities. So
we're gonna try to be as clean as we can
around the QBS with other ten teammates and a couple
times yesterday being that we're getting back into camp mode
and football mode.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
After being off for a few weeks. There were some blemishes,
that's for sure.

Speaker 11 (10:29):
There's all these different philosophies on how soon to play
like a mookie quarterback or do you generally want to
see or need to see to feel like a looking
would be ready to.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Start, like especially in one of the sum Yeah, it's definitely.
It's definitely individual.

Speaker 12 (10:47):
There.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
There's certain guys that are definitely ready and there are
other guys that could need some seasoning. I know Patrick
Mahomes didn't play initially, neither did Aaron Rodgers, whereas we
threw Matt Ryan right in there when we drafted him
in Atlanta. So it's definitely depending on the individual and
his background and also how how is your team built.
There's just there's just a lot for these young guys,

(11:09):
like we talked about. So the more turns, the more
experiences we can get him into both in practice and
these preseason games, the better, because you really learn best
from being out there on the field and uh, taking
your lumps and also feeling like, hey, you may have
this down pattern seeing if you can replicate it next.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
QB sder Sanders talks about the Cleveland community and the
impact he wants to have.

Speaker 18 (11:31):
Blessed to be here.

Speaker 19 (11:32):
Of course, I'm happy all y'all here at the UH
that the fans are able to be here, and I'm excited,
you know, to be a part of his team. Yeah
for serious a respect thing. You know, I know a
lot of people want the content. I know I'm a produce,
so uh nah, I never want to make anybody feel,

(11:54):
you know, any type of way about anything. So it
was important that he gets everything he needs to say
out and everybody captures what he has.

Speaker 18 (12:01):
And then now you know I'm here.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Should hear? How do you maximize I know that the
reps are being divided up between four?

Speaker 20 (12:07):
How do you maximize the time when you're not getting
the reps?

Speaker 2 (12:12):
What do you how do you what's what do you
do to to kind of make take advantage of that?

Speaker 19 (12:17):
I would say just have a deeper level of understanding,
because I know whenever I get my opportunity, I gotta
maximize it.

Speaker 18 (12:24):
So that's that's something.

Speaker 19 (12:27):
You get to change in the mentality, uh standpoint, And
a mental standpoint is okay, I just gotta think about
what I could do to get better even if I'm
not getting reps. And yeah, it's no problem.

Speaker 10 (12:43):
What do you kinds of call out the mental intensity
that they wanna have it at training camp these first
two days and going into the third, what's your mindset
and how are you approaching that intensity?

Speaker 19 (12:53):
I would say just learning, uh every day. Of course,
I'm learning different things cause I know, uh, I ortunity
will come, and whenever it comes, I wanna be able
to know the ins and outs and know the full everything,
so I don't wanna really make too many mistakes, uh
when it's my time.

Speaker 5 (13:10):
We do.

Speaker 8 (13:10):
Just feel like you're getting the uh, the most comfort
comfortable you know, coming back from any camping in the
first company, is in a training camp.

Speaker 18 (13:15):
I say, definitely the playbook.

Speaker 19 (13:17):
Yeah I'm getting I'm getting uh, super com super comfortable
in the playbook for sure, and it's helping me out,
you know.

Speaker 18 (13:24):
Uh. Overall on the field.

Speaker 14 (13:25):
Could like to tell you guys, that's that you guys
are a little short on bodies here with cast catchers.
Like watching you yesterday and in the early part of
practice and sometimes you're throwing the some of the equipment, guys, like,
how do you maximize those opportunities even when it's not
a past catcher that what's gonna.

Speaker 19 (13:39):
Be uncrosst Uh doesn't That doesn't really phase me. You
gotta understand we we went. We came all the way
from HBCU to a Power five and then out we here.
So at this point, if you look around, it's nothing.
There's nothing. You know, that's that's a challenge.

Speaker 21 (13:56):
I say, how were you approaching the four main cap petition?
As you get to training camp, as you get closer
to your season and that week on.

Speaker 18 (14:04):
I'm focused on doing me. I'm focused on learning what
I need to learn?

Speaker 12 (14:10):
U simply it are you thinking about winning that job
for a week on?

Speaker 18 (14:14):
I don't think.

Speaker 19 (14:15):
I don't think nobody in this organization is here if
they're not trying to win. Honestly, I think you know
they trying to win to who gives out the best
water and gatorades out here. So it's definitely competition everything
in life. Uh, it's so many cameras out here. It's
definitely competition with content obviously too. So I think everything
in life, UH boils down the competition.

Speaker 13 (14:37):
You've been a star for your entire life, So how
difficult is it to be patient that you said, waiting
for your turn?

Speaker 19 (14:45):
I'll say it's different phases in life, different things in
life you have to go through, you know, And that's
that's all it is. I'll say for me, it's building blocks,
you know sometimes. I always always had to get over
the prepared and had to worry about a lot of
different things. Uh, just from my youth to high school

(15:05):
to college, and I never had a chance to, I'll say,
sit back and learn more in depth of everything. So
I was always thrown in the fire and and I
always I always exceeded expectations.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
So yesterday and.

Speaker 9 (15:22):
Berry mentioned that, uh, the speeding, huh, that.

Speaker 18 (15:26):
He thought it wasn't smart.

Speaker 9 (15:27):
I I figured somebody, Yeah, so he said that, you know,
it wasn't smart.

Speaker 12 (15:32):
He said, he talked to you, he said, Kevin.

Speaker 9 (15:35):
Uh, Kevin said he also talked to you.

Speaker 6 (15:37):
So I'm just wondering, you know.

Speaker 15 (15:39):
What did you learn from that incident?

Speaker 19 (15:41):
Yeah, I definitely learned not to drive fast at all.
So I I I really I really don't even drive
like that much anymore that much anymore, but I really
don't drive fast at all.

Speaker 18 (15:53):
So I definitely follow the rules.

Speaker 19 (15:55):
And I hope everybody learned from my situation, you know,
that not drive fast at all sugar.

Speaker 22 (16:00):
Yesterday was a long, hot day and you're the red
zone period.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
A little frustrating?

Speaker 15 (16:05):
How frustrating for uh?

Speaker 5 (16:09):
At the end?

Speaker 18 (16:09):
No, this is the thing.

Speaker 19 (16:10):
I I don't never take anything. It's frustrating because I
know everybody tries their best. So like even you know,
throughout everything and cause and everything, I was never frustrated
ever at teammates and everybody because I know everybody's going
out there doing their best. So if you're doing your
best and you tell me, you look me and eye
and tell me you're doing your best. I know I'm
out here trying to do my best. I know I

(16:31):
make mistakes. I know you make mistakes. So it's like,
why would I be mad? We all in similar situations,
So that doesn't really frustrate me at all. You know,
it doesn't frustrate me being able to have an opportunity
to we have days on days on days and days
just the relationships and you know, you could look at somebody,
I'd be like, my bad bro, Like that's that's that's

(16:53):
what was. I'm like, all good, It's no problem because
those how much time everybody has it been together.

Speaker 18 (17:00):
It's about relationships overall. So I don't.

Speaker 19 (17:03):
I don't want any memories of me, you know, being
negative or being mad at any situation that happen.

Speaker 9 (17:09):
We saw you out the polo, you were at the
Rainbow uh Ter Tourists event and uh really embedded.

Speaker 18 (17:15):
In the community, which you've done so much of.

Speaker 9 (17:16):
That since you've been here in this short time. Why
was it important for you to be there and just
be doing all the.

Speaker 5 (17:22):
Things that you've been doing.

Speaker 19 (17:23):
Well, I say, it's definitely it's something I feel like
God put me here to do, you know, re but
whatever the situation is here, Uh, the fact I'm able
to bring light to the community to uh different situations,
that's that's of course my calling. So yeah, I'm just
excited that, you know, one decision and one thought is

(17:45):
able to impact so many lives and and how people
remember that. So that's kind of that's kind of like
how I go about things. Nothing's ever like I say,
pre pre planned or well thought out plan like it.
It's none of that. It's okay, I've one thought, alright,
let's do it like and then that's just how that's

(18:06):
just how it goes.

Speaker 7 (18:06):
Sure, do I know you say you're trying to maximize
those reps and you don't factor matter. It's probably like
the fusest amount of practice rerupture getting like maybe in
your your whole footalk career. Like I'm curious when you
contact me inside? What is before practice?

Speaker 15 (18:18):
Look like?

Speaker 2 (18:19):
What is after practice?

Speaker 7 (18:20):
Look like you talked about, you know, the virtual walk
of virtual reality, like you spend more time with doling.

Speaker 18 (18:24):
Okay, CONDI taking into what that horn? That horn is sick?
My fuck, bro, I don't know who who cries the
golf carts? Are they fixing that? Cause that is it's
doing me off my thought?

Speaker 15 (18:41):
Uh interrupted?

Speaker 18 (18:42):
Man, y'all could cut that. It don't matter, man, Yeah.

Speaker 15 (18:44):
But just what is what is like before practices?

Speaker 12 (18:46):
Like?

Speaker 18 (18:46):
What is after practice?

Speaker 23 (18:47):
Look like?

Speaker 19 (18:48):
To make sure the hey, yeah see it ain't me,
It ain't me doing that. I don't know what it is, alright,
I guess they busy right now. Before practice, of course,
it's gotten down all the plays and it starts the
night before of course.

Speaker 18 (19:05):
But training camp you.

Speaker 19 (19:06):
Get a lot of different plays each day and you
don't know who's gonna get in what. So that's the
that's the exciting challenge that it is, like dang, you
don't even know what reps you gonna get?

Speaker 18 (19:15):
See, you gotta be ready for everything.

Speaker 19 (19:17):
That's how it is, you know in games also, so
UH dut down the plays, understand conceptually what it is.
I'll say from Ricky, Minnie camp and OTA's to now,
I learned more in depth with everything, you know. So
I'm just excited I'm able to uh have this approach
with things and take full advantage of it.

Speaker 15 (19:40):
What about after practice?

Speaker 19 (19:42):
Oh, after pra after practice, for sure, I gotta get
a good meal in so that's the first thing. Get
a good meal in recovery, of course, and then UH
getna iPad watch everything. Then then I can't give you
too many details, and I try to cause I gotta
when I go in practice, I got ma out of
my moment, so I gotta study our defense too.

Speaker 18 (20:03):
So that's what it is.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
All of us keep getting asked the same question, and
none of us had the answer.

Speaker 5 (20:08):
So maybe you could give us the answer.

Speaker 6 (20:10):
Why aren't you getting any reps with the ones at
any point?

Speaker 9 (20:14):
Uh?

Speaker 19 (20:15):
I don't think that's I don't think that's that's not
my place, you know, to answer to.

Speaker 18 (20:20):
To even be able to give the answer to that,
I feel like.

Speaker 19 (20:26):
It's not in my control, so I'm not even gonna
think about that or have that even in my thought
process of why it is, like, it's a lot of
people that wanna have the opportunity to be at this level,
and I'm here and I'm thankful to have the opportunity.

Speaker 18 (20:38):
So whenever that is, it is.

Speaker 19 (20:40):
But it doesn't make me feel down or it doesn't
make me feel left out or anything, because I know
who I am as a person, I know who I
am as an individual, and I know what I could
bring to this team. So I can never feel less than.
You know, in any circumstance, your dad.

Speaker 9 (20:58):
Went down and visited sh Yeah, so is he gonna
come here and and visit you as well?

Speaker 19 (21:04):
Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm not sure I'm telling you
when I'll tell you I was cut off from the world,
I a'm it been. It been hard to even make
phone calls, you know, obviously, cause you gotta have the
decompressed time, uh for sure. After practice, so I taught,
but recently I've just been following up with the other
former like Buffalo players and stuff like that. So that's

(21:25):
really who I've been talking to.

Speaker 24 (21:26):
Sure, when you say that you know, there's been a
little bit of everything as far as when you first
got here to to now just y in what regard
wa it's just as far as like your growth and
and adjusting. Yeah, yeah, But what what's been the most
I impactful or significant point for you since you came.

Speaker 6 (21:43):
In uh that rookie Minnie camp to now as you
get into.

Speaker 18 (21:46):
The early part of the beta training camp in the
football world. Yeah, it's a lot. It's hard. It's hard.

Speaker 19 (21:58):
It's hard to answer that because what's important and what
I feel like the biggest thing could have been last week,
is could have what I just learned today or yesterday.
So it's always it's always consistent growth and it always
feels like I just saw you know, a puzzle or
anything like all the time. So regardless if it's even

(22:18):
relationships with the old line of relationships with the receivers,
talking to Thenzel, you know, playing with him, like playing
with all the dvs, different type of stuff like that,
is it's always it's always big, you know, it's always
a big moment. So I can't say what's exactly the
biggest moment. I'll say just even connecting with the kicker

(22:39):
like in the in the sign and just talking about
God and everything. Like it's a lot of different moments
and like unscripted things that just happen.

Speaker 18 (22:46):
So that could be the biggest moment we heard from.

Speaker 14 (22:50):
Bill musk Grave today. What's it been like with him,
especially knowing your.

Speaker 19 (22:53):
Dad, Yeah, cosmus Grave cool, Yeah, he real cool and
he always he always tells you definitely old terms like
he he's like a history book. Like he tells you
so many stories about different things. So it makes it
makes the room definitely. You know, it's a bunch of
different age ranges in the in the room, so it

(23:14):
makes everything like dang, he remembers.

Speaker 18 (23:18):
A lot of stuff from back then.

Speaker 19 (23:22):
I don't know, it's new stories every day. So it's
like and I'm fully bought in.

Speaker 8 (23:28):
I've never met them before comings I'm believe.

Speaker 19 (23:32):
I would say, I would say probably in what was
before you got drafted, whatever that.

Speaker 15 (23:38):
Was, Yeah, I mean, like I mean, I guess.

Speaker 18 (23:40):
Yeah, the pre draft process for sure. Yeah, I mean
like before that.

Speaker 19 (23:43):
You hadn't I don't think so, I don't remember back then.

Speaker 18 (23:48):
Probably not.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
We know you have a huge followings. Fans are gonna
be out here the first.

Speaker 21 (23:52):
Time today, first time you get the practice in front
of Brons fans.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
What do you think that's gonna be? Like, what do
you think the reception.

Speaker 19 (23:59):
I'm definitely focus on getting completions when I get out there.
So the external is cool. I'm thankful for it. I'm
thankful for all y'all coming out here, being able to document.

Speaker 18 (24:08):
Everything and doing what y'all gotta do.

Speaker 19 (24:10):
But hey, when I get out there, I'm not thinking
about it external. I'm thinking about more, you know, in
the organization, thinking about getting the play calls, executing my job,
doing what I gotta do.

Speaker 5 (24:21):
You got time for a couple more.

Speaker 24 (24:22):
You've actually been involved in the community a lot since
coming to Cleveland, helping out fans, like the.

Speaker 11 (24:27):
Fire at the afortment.

Speaker 12 (24:28):
What do you think about so far? How do you
like it? How have you felt with the fancy in that?

Speaker 19 (24:36):
Yeah, no, it's it's it's exciting. Whenever we at the
KFC thing, it was so many people there, it's crazy.
So that type of stuff is just cool because, like
I say, you live each day at a time. You
don't know when anything happens. You know, you could be
alive one day and past the next day. So it's

(24:56):
like I like to be able to at least make
my impact and for you to actually, you know, feel
my energy while I'm here, you know, and while I'm alive.
And why anybody else here, cause who knows. Anybody could
get a job somewhere else and then be gone the
next day, you know, and all you have the last
thing is just the last memory.

Speaker 18 (25:13):
So I wanna at least make sure you.

Speaker 19 (25:15):
Know my impacting my m what I'm remember for you know,
here will always be good at any point.

Speaker 10 (25:22):
What do you feel like that the biggest adjustment for
you has been going from college now being here, whether
it's something on the field, whether it's the schedule now
changing off the field, what.

Speaker 19 (25:31):
I would say definitely definitely like chloh not being there,
I would say that's the biggest thing. That's the biggest change,
cause like you know, Charlotte, he always he's the type
to always find out and set up all like the house.

Speaker 18 (25:45):
And stuff or set up all the different stuff.

Speaker 19 (25:47):
So now there's definitely a lot of responsibilities I I
gotta take care of now.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
Quick.

Speaker 9 (25:55):
We've seen some psycho a lot of guys you know,
come through here. What he's and you know, especially when
you're so close to your family. You know, some guys,
do you get homesick?

Speaker 15 (26:07):
They they don't adjust.

Speaker 21 (26:08):
Well to a new city.

Speaker 9 (26:10):
It it doesn't really seem like you're having that problem.

Speaker 5 (26:13):
But I mean, is that s is that?

Speaker 9 (26:15):
Is it so different to be.

Speaker 14 (26:17):
In a completely new environment away.

Speaker 9 (26:19):
From I mean you're so.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
Close to shy Up, so close to your dad.

Speaker 15 (26:21):
Yeah, Uh, how's that gone for you?

Speaker 6 (26:23):
Just to be here and your whole new digs?

Speaker 19 (26:25):
Well, I got a home here, so I'm comfortable, so
so so I'm r extremely comfortable and we talk on
face time, so it's no different, Like, yeah, we're guys,
Like we're just gonna be on face time. So it's no,
it's it's no truly difference. Uh, I'll say, but one thing.
One thing, he he definitely gives me tips and stuff,
so I I I've got like a cold press juicer

(26:47):
and then like I've been having to do that cause
he lived like three doors down from me in Colorado
and I just walked to his house get juice. But
now I gotta do it myself. So that's the hardest
adjustment with everything. But other than that, I'm thankful for
y'all coming out, you know, thank youll.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
QB Dylan Gabriel is next and talks about getting acclimated
to life in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Well, this competition, just when you're not getting reps, what
is that process like for you? What are you doing?

Speaker 5 (27:17):
How are you trying to maximize that?

Speaker 23 (27:20):
Yeah, I think a REP is a rep in general,
and you know, we try as quarterbacks knowing that there's
not many reps to go around, just as how practice
goes when you're behind the center and trying to take.

Speaker 12 (27:34):
As much metal reps as you can.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
That's you know, been.

Speaker 12 (27:37):
Our it's been our to our benefit, you know, be
able to get it that way.

Speaker 23 (27:41):
So and then you talk about it in the film
room as well, So there's there's a combination of ways
to to.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
Make it happen.

Speaker 12 (27:47):
But you know, of course the physical is a little different.

Speaker 13 (27:51):
Being the mini camp and just started training camp period
to get better.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
Over the.

Speaker 23 (27:58):
Yeah, I just uh got better, got to it, you know,
in in in every area of my game. And I
think mentally, you know, you're able to come out of
OTA's and know a lot about what we're trying to
do and accomplish. But uh, physically, you know you're able
to you know, actually go to work and know how
uh the coaches want things, so UH gave us time
to go execute that and feel good about it going.

Speaker 12 (28:20):
Into a straining camp.

Speaker 13 (28:21):
So did you throw it to H players from college.

Speaker 15 (28:24):
Or H or what did you do?

Speaker 5 (28:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 12 (28:26):
Uh, a mix? You know. I think it's you get
around town.

Speaker 23 (28:29):
You try to find receivers that you can and you know,
shout out to uh Oklahoma Baptist University. I had some
UH receivers out there, but they're.

Speaker 12 (28:37):
They're running wild. But you know, was able to connect
with you know, Dre.

Speaker 23 (28:42):
And uh Jamari and in Los Angeles as well. So
you just try to find receivers where you can. But
you know, as as much as you can connect with
the guys that you're gonna play with at different helps.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
Didn't want to see in the two days credit camp
has been a tough tick and a number of play
action plays.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Or of your mini camp in those days.

Speaker 5 (29:00):
And surprising how when.

Speaker 24 (29:02):
You are at it or what your explained to work on.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
It to learn the break.

Speaker 23 (29:08):
Yeah, ever everyone does, you know, and I think, uh,
just something that you're gonna wanna pr pride yourself on,
you know, and how good you can make the run
look like the past and vice versa. So you know,
it's something that you you try to work on and
we emphasize throughout practice, but also.

Speaker 12 (29:23):
You know, the time you have off to you know,
continue record can do.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
What do you feel like you have to do to
ring this starting jobs?

Speaker 23 (29:30):
Yeah, you know, I think for for most it's it's
just focusing on right.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
Where I'm at today, you know.

Speaker 12 (29:36):
And you know, I think a lot of.

Speaker 23 (29:37):
People are focused on results. But the more you can
just be right where your feet are, the results will come.
And for me, I'm just focused on today. You know,
I go, I got a practice today that I look
forward to and it's been a blast to be able
to to learn and compete every single that does you you.

Speaker 14 (29:53):
Go to something you have to like work on throughout
your not even playing football or have you kind of
always got go mentality of being able to.

Speaker 12 (30:00):
The president of the moment instead of.

Speaker 23 (30:04):
I think I think I just had to grow up
at a young age pretty quick football lives, you know, uh,
starting as a a freshman in high school, doing.

Speaker 12 (30:12):
The same in college.

Speaker 23 (30:14):
You know, it's a different situation, but there are some
trends of of you know, learning and UH and being
able to translate to a new game, or at least
a a new level of the game. So, uh, for me,
it's just it's been my way. Allis's who I've been,
and it's just a certain way of how I attack it.

Speaker 10 (30:31):
You know, what does your process personally look like when
you're trying to lock in those mental reps and you're
trying to lock in things in the in the film room,
and then even when you're taking those those valuable physical rests,
what what's your process of law all that didn't get.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
The most out of aage things.

Speaker 12 (30:44):
Yeah, I think elite focus.

Speaker 23 (30:46):
You know, it's difficult, uh to talk about are difficult
to actually do, easy to talk about, and you know,
I think that's something that you just have to continue
to pride yourself on.

Speaker 12 (30:55):
And I've had a lot of reps of that, but uh,
every rep.

Speaker 23 (30:58):
Is is precious, you know, uh physically but even mentally
when you're behind center and and trying to get.

Speaker 12 (31:03):
Those reps, those are precious as well.

Speaker 23 (31:04):
So uh try to you know, do the combination of
the two, and then when you're in meetings, right, you know,
be able to talk through it so you feel extremely
prepared for when you do get on the grass. But
you know it's a it's a culmination of a lot
of things. And you know that's why being president is huge.
So you don't you don't uh let a day pass
by without you being extremely focused on what's what's it

(31:25):
happen he j.

Speaker 21 (31:26):
We talked about going I do how hard is it's
the is you're talking about stay in that moment being
president and all that or on a day to day basis.

Speaker 6 (31:34):
And also at the same time knowing and understanding that you.

Speaker 12 (31:37):
Are competing with for a sort of job as a
rookie at pat Yeah.

Speaker 23 (31:42):
I I've told you multiple times how I view competitions
being myself yesterday, you know, and and how can I
be better than I was yesterday? And I I think
when you have that focus, it's gonna make everyone better.
It's gonna make your team better, it's gonna make our
run better. And that's all I can do, control what
I can control. On anytime you think outside of that, uh,

(32:02):
you're you're not serving the.

Speaker 5 (32:03):
Moment, you feel.

Speaker 21 (32:04):
We talked about the limited reps, but in mini camp
when you got the reps with the first team, how
valuable are those and what did you take away from
a man experience.

Speaker 12 (32:13):
Yeah, reps are reps, pros or pros.

Speaker 23 (32:14):
Of course, there's some guys that you know, I have
played a lot more ball than others. But for the
most part, you know, I think you can just maximize 'em.

Speaker 12 (32:22):
And you know, the the speed of the game is
is typical.

Speaker 5 (32:26):
You know, it's there's.

Speaker 12 (32:27):
Elite players on both sides of the ball.

Speaker 23 (32:30):
But the more you can get tries at it, of course,
it'll help doing How do you feel.

Speaker 9 (32:35):
Like you process or assimilated the offense in those five weeks?

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Do you feel like when you wep hom you.

Speaker 9 (32:41):
Had so much, You've done your plate? Uh, did it
kind of all kind of come together and you got
back here and the lights were on even more.

Speaker 12 (32:48):
Yeah, I like what coach Stefanski says, you gotta you
gotta take on a elephant one by the other time,
and you know, we definitely were delivered the elephant.

Speaker 23 (32:57):
So uh, just try kind of take it, uh, not
day by day, but installed by insult and try to
dissect it there. And I think within an insult you
can get runs, passes, play aftss, uh, different progressions, things
that you have to think through. But the more you
conceptualize it, for yourself and you know, create ways of
memorizing it. You know, I think that just goes down

(33:19):
to study habits and life skills.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
Honestly, is there anything you answer?

Speaker 3 (33:23):
How issue the transition from first college you field A.

Speaker 23 (33:28):
Rough honestly, I just I I love how dedicated everyone
is is to the game, you know, and there's a
precision you have to.

Speaker 5 (33:36):
Play with, uh within the NFL, and.

Speaker 23 (33:38):
Of course you know I'm speaking just from practice reps,
but you know, of course the game as well. And
I think, uh, you know, I think it's a blast
being a competitor.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
Because you are demanded.

Speaker 23 (33:50):
You know, they get it's a demand to play at
your bet, you know, and that's the fun part of
what we do.

Speaker 12 (33:55):
So you know, I I get excited every time I
go on the field cause I get to do that.

Speaker 10 (34:02):
Going off of that, what's been the biggest off being
the story now from college to your whole time jobs?

Speaker 23 (34:10):
Not not much, I I would say, more so just
moving in general. You know, I think people will go
through you know, a little moving things here and there
that maybe you don't necessarily think of. And just for anyone,
I think, uh, the last time you moved, if you
can think through that. There's just some steps that come
with it, So I guess that's the probably the most

(34:32):
difficult part.

Speaker 12 (34:32):
But once you pass that, then you're right back into
you routine.

Speaker 9 (34:35):
Oh, we just got a chance to talk to Shador
and he's so entertaining and.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Wanted to talk to you.

Speaker 9 (34:41):
I'm just wondering, what has your relationship been play dream him?

Speaker 22 (34:46):
Like, have you guys been having.

Speaker 9 (34:47):
To blast together?

Speaker 14 (34:48):
And do you hang out.

Speaker 5 (34:49):
Together a lot?

Speaker 9 (34:50):
You know ways from here when sure you don't see
you guys, How.

Speaker 12 (34:52):
How's that going? Yeah, it's good.

Speaker 5 (34:54):
You know.

Speaker 12 (34:54):
I think being in two similar you.

Speaker 23 (34:57):
Know, t times of our career of rip and trying
to learn and figure out our way, I think, uh,
you know, there's a bunch of ways to do it,
and uh, we've just been doing it by being ourselves.
So it's it's been a lot of fun that way.
And as you know, we have a fun room in
a room that uh there's just a a bunch of
diversity in a lot of way, a lot of ways,

(35:18):
and we just use that to advantage, keep learning, keep growing.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Where have you pumped up from that time in that room?

Speaker 17 (35:24):
You know, from listening to guys like Joe and kiddy,
what is there something in particular that before you got
in there you really didn't having your toolbox that and
how you know you kind of you kind of use
it to.

Speaker 5 (35:36):
Your you to your advantage.

Speaker 23 (35:37):
Yeah, I think you just you grow from their experience
in the sense that, uh.

Speaker 12 (35:42):
You can you can use a lot of the the
ways their study habits or maybe things that they've been a.

Speaker 23 (35:47):
Lot more efficient in, you know, And I say that
in just day to day, you know, and and how
they go about their process of whether they're studying, taking
care of their body, or even just thinking about a
certain place.

Speaker 12 (35:59):
So there's a mix of all that. And as you
can tell, there's three.

Speaker 23 (36:03):
Guys, you know, Deshaun, Joe and can't you move played
a bunch of ball in different spots, so they've seen
a bunch of different football.

Speaker 12 (36:10):
So we can all learn from that.

Speaker 5 (36:11):
How much.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
To anybody?

Speaker 15 (36:15):
How much do you miss?

Speaker 12 (36:17):
Why I'm used to it?

Speaker 23 (36:18):
You know, I always knew and I actually went even
further right right when I was eighteen to two UCF,
so really went you know, from w.

Speaker 12 (36:28):
West to east as as far as you possibly can
and at least in the country. And yeah, I'm just
used to it. I know that there's a a flight involved,
but it's all good.

Speaker 23 (36:39):
I get I get the family out of as much
as I can. And you know, Poy has always been
special to me and always will be.

Speaker 21 (36:45):
How much emper since you put on getting the ball?
How do your hand in a hurry? And how do
you balance that with Hey, I want to take some
shots though the field?

Speaker 12 (36:52):
Yeah? I think playing on time you can still take shots.

Speaker 5 (36:55):
Down the field.

Speaker 23 (36:56):
And I think, uh, you know, that's a constant balance
a A quarterback is playing you know when you can
you know, take the cheese or or maybe you gotta
drop it down and and sometimes you know, people see
ah a checkdown.

Speaker 12 (37:08):
Maybe as a results base and versus you know, maybe
a uh a checkdown that gets.

Speaker 23 (37:13):
In explosive, right, So there's there's constant uh conversation about
it when you can uh continue to play off one another.
But uh, I think it's you know, the balance of
quarterback plays a really in every progressive that time.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
What are your thoughts on your from the problems on yours.

Speaker 12 (37:32):
It'll be interesting. It's my first time, so it'll be interesting.

Speaker 23 (37:35):
You know, in college you kind of have you know,
the donors or you know some family friends come around
but be curious to see the environment and see what
it's like.

Speaker 24 (37:45):
Are you ask now or or you in?

Speaker 1 (37:48):
You're all the real leases and just asked you as
I saw what a little thing you see that?

Speaker 14 (37:52):
Or a rogerson came that where talking about the wondering
are you in?

Speaker 5 (37:55):
Yeah? Your word at a.

Speaker 23 (37:56):
Ringing together as you tell right, No, no, we got
we got a team hotel and yeah we got our
individual space.

Speaker 16 (38:03):
Yeah, I know you talking about talked about researching Joe
Blackiell a little bit.

Speaker 5 (38:08):
Yeh.

Speaker 14 (38:10):
Do you have any sense of kind of how he.

Speaker 16 (38:16):
Made this fan base from other thing twenty twenty three
and that little one that he made from the sum
is somebody gets into the playoffs?

Speaker 25 (38:23):
Did you?

Speaker 6 (38:23):
Did you happen to come across any of that when you.

Speaker 12 (38:25):
Were looking up so aware of it? M you know,
I I think.

Speaker 23 (38:29):
Joe's journey is very interesting, you know, and you know
I was very curious about it.

Speaker 5 (38:34):
But just seeing you.

Speaker 12 (38:37):
Know the type of ball he's been.

Speaker 23 (38:39):
Playing at a lead level and in many different spots.
You know it's not by coincidence, so uh A lot.

Speaker 12 (38:45):
To learn from him, uh, but you know.

Speaker 23 (38:47):
I just lead through through questions, you know, and and
try to listen. And I think whenever you ask certain
questions and you can get you know, certain answers based
on how curious you really are, do you you.

Speaker 6 (39:00):
Guys study that film from his time here, it's previously.

Speaker 12 (39:03):
Your I think it's a mixture of everything. I think
not only.

Speaker 23 (39:08):
Quarterbacks, but you know, receivers, and uh, I think you
try to you know, if there's a a route there
that someone has ran, and you know you're trying to
install a certain route, and uh, I think there's ways
to to be able to teach it through you know,
certain guy's experience of running it.

Speaker 21 (39:24):
You know, it is just hard not to press okay,
competition like this, no way that could have a the
reps that you make a mistake or that you wiped out.

Speaker 12 (39:31):
To white jack though so sorry I can.

Speaker 20 (39:34):
It is it hard not to sort of cross waiting.

Speaker 6 (39:37):
Here you are, you know romance ranks like the limited.

Speaker 12 (39:41):
Reps and you know, perhaps and make mistake and white
out that you write.

Speaker 23 (39:44):
Back off you don't, I I challenge you on the
reps piece. There's a bunch of reps to go around
in terms of mentally, physic physically, you know, the combination.

Speaker 12 (39:53):
Yeah, but pressing you don't be you know, I I
don't believe in that.

Speaker 23 (39:58):
I but I'm a sure believer and just inconsistent being
right your feet are and maximizing the reps you do got,
you know, the moment you're thinking about the reps.

Speaker 12 (40:05):
You don't have, you know, focusing on the reps you
do have.

Speaker 23 (40:08):
So I'm trying to answer your question. But yeah, you know,
you just gotta do where your feet are and take
advantage of that.

Speaker 5 (40:15):
That's all you got.

Speaker 25 (40:16):
More.

Speaker 9 (40:16):
Yesterday, Andrew Berry mentioned that, uh, the four quarterbacks is
a real possibility on this football?

Speaker 5 (40:23):
Can you keeping all four of them?

Speaker 12 (40:26):
Does?

Speaker 14 (40:26):
Knowing that or hearing that, uh?

Speaker 9 (40:28):
Is that in some ways kind.

Speaker 7 (40:30):
Of uh A a great thing to know we're.

Speaker 15 (40:32):
Here since you've got in all gotten so close in
that realm.

Speaker 9 (40:34):
Yeah, to know that maybe if somebody doesn't have to
be the odd man out. And I don't know, just
what is your feeling on that that all four could be.

Speaker 21 (40:42):
On the roster of the beginning.

Speaker 12 (40:43):
Yeah, It's just has.

Speaker 23 (40:45):
Nothing to do with what I can control, right, It's
it's up to them, they make decisions.

Speaker 12 (40:50):
I just lace my cleats up, get on the grass
and happy to do.

Speaker 5 (40:54):
What I do. Appreciate it. Oh well, I don't know.

Speaker 12 (40:57):
It's thanks you should be funny.

Speaker 6 (41:00):
Small cracks you can fall through the small.

Speaker 5 (41:04):
Cracks in the defense you have to finish.

Speaker 12 (41:10):
Appreciate that.

Speaker 5 (41:12):
Through the smallest windows.

Speaker 11 (41:15):
Is that a result of you needing you find different
passing wins?

Speaker 5 (41:20):
That's trouble.

Speaker 23 (41:21):
Yeah, I think, Uh, regardless, a quarterback has to find
passing lines. But also regardless, it's not always gonna be
the perfect situation. And I think for anyone, you're gonna
have to find those tight windows and make those certain throws.

Speaker 12 (41:39):
And that's at every level, regardless of you know, physical.

Speaker 5 (41:45):
Ability, you're gonna have to make certain throws that.

Speaker 12 (41:49):
You are contributing the winning So it's just it's all situation.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
Face defensive line Code Jacques discusses rookie defensive tackle Mason
Graham and how he has performed this offseason.

Speaker 5 (42:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (42:02):
What what do you look at defensive lineman do to
to get better during that time?

Speaker 26 (42:06):
Well, I know a lot of the guys they have
certain trainers that they're go and work with all over
the country and and and I appreciate that. I appreciate
all those those D line trainers out there that are
trying to get guys to come in and work with
them because we can't work with them. So they have
to have, uh, you know, some kind of space where
they can go where they're working their rush, they're working

(42:29):
their run schemes, uh, in their in you know, their
individual technique. And the only way they can do that
is they get with other defensive linemen and D line
trainers that know how to train defensive lineman.

Speaker 21 (42:39):
Okay, what do you think LAK's gonna bring up to
that interior joint?

Speaker 3 (42:43):
Yeah?

Speaker 26 (42:43):
I love Malik uh And I always sleep good at
night when when MALIEK. Collins is on my defensive line,
just because you know, he knows who I am, he
knows how I work. Uh, He's a technician, he's a professional. Uh,
he's a very smart runner rusher. So I'm just excited
to see what Malik can bring to the table.

Speaker 5 (43:02):
Jack.

Speaker 6 (43:02):
When when we talk about interior pressure, and there's been
a real emphasis here and we're trying to increase that for.

Speaker 12 (43:07):
The last couple of years, what do the next thing?
How important is that on yourkie line?

Speaker 26 (43:10):
It's it's really important because you have to collapse the
pocket if you don't collapse the pocket. Now the quarterback
has a step up lane, So you got to have
two guys inside, whether they're d tackles, big defensive ends,
whoever it may be. We need guys that need to
that that can collapse the pocket so those defensive ends
can shorten that corner and get to the quarterback.

Speaker 21 (43:31):
We haven't seen him obviously, Mike's not out here practicing yet,
but I'm sure you've been around him throughout the off season,
like how is he doing?

Speaker 15 (43:38):
What's the spirit?

Speaker 12 (43:38):
Like?

Speaker 5 (43:39):
How excited are you to have him back?

Speaker 3 (43:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 26 (43:40):
It, Mike's been great. He's been in the meeting rooms.
He's he's locked in, he's always answering questions. And you know,
I think right now, UH, with his development as far
as just learning the game as much as he can,
I think he's doing a really great job back that it's.

Speaker 16 (43:55):
Changed, you know, from the evolution of your gym towards
from up front, from you know, twenty twenty three last
season and now as you guys go into year three year,
what what's the r the biggest uh adjustment or change
uh that we can expect to see?

Speaker 26 (44:12):
There is no change, Okay, we're gonna come off the ball. Alright,
We're gonna attack, We're gonna we're gonna set edges, we're
gonna penetrate, we're gonna disrupt.

Speaker 15 (44:19):
That's what we're about. We don't, we don't, we don't
need to change.

Speaker 26 (44:22):
Okay, we need the guys that are gonna buy in
and do exactly what we ask him to do.

Speaker 14 (44:26):
Jack, I know, I say, uh got a lot of
run last year and the big time reps and things
like that. How has he kind of snowballed that in
like that experience since you coming into camp now and where.

Speaker 12 (44:37):
Has he gone?

Speaker 26 (44:38):
Yeah, I mean he's picked up right where he left off,
you know, and obviously right now it's you know, last
year was like really understanding what he had to do
with within the scheme and I understand it, like what
the technique was, and how I am as a coach.
Now this year we're used to each other. So now
he could just take it a next step, the next
level up and really just dial in on like where
he can get his rushing and in each defense, how

(44:59):
he can prove his overall run run technique. I think
Isaiah's doing a tremendous job for us right now when you.

Speaker 21 (45:05):
Talk about the transition that Mason's making, you know, from
the read and react to the attact. And he was
saying the other day about not stopping his feet, like,
is that like the number one maybe technique?

Speaker 12 (45:18):
Change it?

Speaker 26 (45:19):
He has to me, No, there's a lot now, and
not just for Mason, just for everybody, because we're asking
him to do things that normally a lot of defensive
schemes don't ask him to do. But he's extremely athletic,
a lot more athletic than a lot of people really
realize that he is. And he has really strong hands,
and he he's extremely smart, you know. I mean that
that's a guy that came in already understanding how to rush,

(45:41):
how to make guys move their feet, you know, what
to do with his hands. So just getting him to
just get used to that habit of just running through
contact is what we've been working on since OTA's and
he's done a great job at it.

Speaker 21 (45:53):
He really has Like these first two days, I mean,
I know they're small, mature practices, but look like Gata
second day and then he forces a fumble like he's
already flashing that kind of making ability.

Speaker 5 (46:03):
You saw him.

Speaker 26 (46:03):
Yeah, I mean he's a playmaker, he's a he's the
fifth pick in the draft for a reason, and and
and you can see it out here and the way
he moves, how strong he is, the way he rushes,
and then the way he runs to the ball. I mean,
he's done a great job of getting a shape. I
mean that's the number one thing I could say. You
know that that's a guy that left here, you know,
being committed to being in shape because he's trying to
get ready for a full season.

Speaker 5 (46:25):
Shock.

Speaker 21 (46:25):
You guys almost do like hockey line changes on that detise.

Speaker 6 (46:30):
I mean, how many guys ideally.

Speaker 5 (46:31):
Would you love to play on Sunday?

Speaker 26 (46:33):
How many guys we have on the team. Yeah, fifteen,
I'll take all fifteen all right now. But uh, you know,
it's a testament to Ab and his group. I mean,
those guys do a good good job of bringing the
guys that we we want into the program, that that
fit us, and and those guys they embrace it. They
go out they do exactly what we're asking him to do.
So I'm excited for everybody, really, I want to see

(46:55):
everybody get out there and shine because every all the
guys in the room have an opportunity to play in
the NFL and n.

Speaker 6 (47:02):
And I know he was I know he wasn't in
your group, but Jordan Hicks retired to day, I'm sure
you kind of felt his present because he.

Speaker 5 (47:07):
Was one of the leaders on that defense too.

Speaker 6 (47:09):
What what kind of interactions would you get to have
with him?

Speaker 26 (47:11):
Yeah, I've known Jordan for some time now, and uh great,
He's a great professional, great man and uh, you know,
I wish him all the best.

Speaker 2 (47:18):
Obviously we've talked about Meson skill said, but in these.

Speaker 9 (47:21):
First couple of purtases like see and how.

Speaker 2 (47:23):
He can uh penetrate like that?

Speaker 27 (47:25):
And he used his ability to attack, like how has
that changed the up their defensive.

Speaker 4 (47:30):
Line so far as you get to see how he
gets next to Miles actually the other guys.

Speaker 18 (47:35):
How you got it?

Speaker 26 (47:36):
Uh it looks pretty now, I I it's it's good
when you got four guys that are committed to attacking
and and penetrating and and like I said, Mason's done
a good job, Malik's done a good job. Sam Kamara
has done an excellent job. You know, we got some
some younger guys, uh Aiden Huntington. You know some guys
that you know, uh, Cam Thomas has done a great job.
I mean, they're all really working their butts off right now,

(47:56):
and they're doing the tremendous job doing exactly what I
wanted to do.

Speaker 12 (48:00):
Is what's the next step there?

Speaker 26 (48:03):
Them as rulers right now, they just like I said before,
just continually working on their run technique, continually working on
their rush. They're they're doing a a a great job
out here being team leaders alright and leading away. They're
they're in great shape, and I'm excited to see all.
Like I said, I'm excited to see everybody right now
on the field because really across the board, everybody is

(48:25):
showcasing that they can play in this system, they can
play in the NFL, they can rush, they can stop
the run, and I'm just excited to see what these
guys can do.

Speaker 1 (48:33):
Linebacker Jerome Baker reacts to Jordan Hicks's decision to retire.

Speaker 20 (48:38):
Which seems like there's a new opportunity or guy like
you with Jordan bicks recovery, how do you how do
you feel.

Speaker 5 (48:44):
About what that? Dudes?

Speaker 25 (48:46):
Uh man, I'm I'm surely just happy for him just
to leave on your own terms, do it the way
you wanna do it. I'm just having a a great career.
I'm surely just happy for him. Like I said over there,
I am a little disappointed, uh just because of now
I'm the oldest. But other than that, Uh, you just
show these happy family.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
But you, what are you?

Speaker 13 (49:05):
What are your strong strongest suits.

Speaker 5 (49:09):
Off for me? Uh?

Speaker 12 (49:11):
Uh?

Speaker 25 (49:11):
I kind of just know football. Uh I know football.
I'm fast, I'm explosive, just a short tackler. Those are
things I kind of just pride myself on and just
understanding football, and that's what I'm leaning on, just just
understanding of my experience and what's going off with that.

Speaker 2 (49:25):
I'm just show you.

Speaker 25 (49:26):
Relishing the opportunity of to be home essentially yere Oh,
I'm enjoining every day of it.

Speaker 2 (49:31):
Uh I.

Speaker 5 (49:31):
It's surely a dream come true.

Speaker 25 (49:33):
Even today, having you know, my family come out and
watching practice, all my little cousins. It it's something that
you you dreamed of happening, and now that it's here,
I'm taking full advantage of.

Speaker 10 (49:42):
Are you what you anticipating and the excitement of having
fans here for the first time, got Cleveland on your front,
you can to kind of show off.

Speaker 15 (49:49):
In front of the fan basement.

Speaker 25 (49:50):
Oh absolutely, absolutely, just just cause this is really home
for me, not just cause I played for the Cleveland Bounds,
but this is truly where I grew up, where I
was born and raised, and I I'll take pride in that.

Speaker 21 (50:00):
Did you go to training camps when you're young?

Speaker 5 (50:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 25 (50:03):
Uh, it's funny that my aunt she took me and
she sent me a picture. When I first signed. It
was like now that we gotta recreate it. But uh,
for me, it's I'm i'm'a take every advantage of it.
I'ma enjoyed. How old was, so it's gonna be good
extra on. Uh whanna sound was like eleven mma thing.
I don't remember what the exact age I was, but
I was pretty young.

Speaker 18 (50:20):
Did you have a favor favorite player Brown's player when.

Speaker 5 (50:23):
You were growing up?

Speaker 18 (50:24):
Ooh favorite Brown's player.

Speaker 25 (50:28):
Uh, I'm not almost have a favorite, it's just uh
it it's funny. So when Johnny Monzel was here, he
he was probably the first jersey I ever bought, and
I had so uh shout out to him.

Speaker 6 (50:44):
Yeah I failed quarterback jersey.

Speaker 5 (50:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 25 (50:46):
Uh, I wouldn't say failed. I would just say it
just didn't work out. But yeah, I definitely.

Speaker 5 (50:51):
Still got that Jersey chased the rocket.

Speaker 25 (50:53):
With Well, I it was a secret, but now that
you know I brung it up, I think, uh, I
gotta change it up.

Speaker 5 (50:59):
But I still at it.

Speaker 14 (51:00):
Girl, Like, guess, how do you look at the challenge
of this linerecker?

Speaker 15 (51:03):
Room looks so different now without Jordan, without.

Speaker 14 (51:06):
Jeremiah, and bring in Carson and bring in you and
bring into the off season. So what well, how much
are you looking forward to that opportunity? Is this room
is kind of remade this season.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
A little bit?

Speaker 25 (51:16):
Yeah, I mean we were really just pushing each other,
you know, me just being the older guy. I'm trying
to bring the young guys along as far as your experience,
and the younger guys they got something to prove and
they wanna make a name for themselves. So it's that
perfect balance of we're all just pushing each other and
and that's what the main focus is. We tryna just
get better every day and uh, it's gonna work out
for us.

Speaker 15 (51:35):
Seems like what it seems.

Speaker 6 (51:36):
Like linebackers really love this scheme.

Speaker 5 (51:38):
It's kind of just no good the ball. But acted
is that is that what you see? Yeah?

Speaker 25 (51:42):
That that's exactly why I signed here. You just go
out and just play, Just run hite guys and I
you don't really have to think as much as go
out there and play ball and have fun and uh
as the players that come to you.

Speaker 5 (51:51):
Have have you ever started?

Speaker 3 (51:52):
Yeah? Y, have you ever been on a scheme like this?

Speaker 25 (51:55):
I've been in something similar, but something like this, this
is uh something you all was dream of linebackers. Just
I could just shoot my gap and just go hide
fun and make blaze. That's something that every linebacker dream of.

Speaker 5 (52:06):
What's it been like to work.

Speaker 27 (52:07):
With Turvor or just like his personality out of the
fell on the field in the way that he like really.

Speaker 21 (52:13):
Just works with you guys.

Speaker 25 (52:14):
Yeah, I think for me, you know, they always tell
you that he had a personality that he he's very involved
in it. You always hear about that with a lot
of coaches, but he truly lives it every single day
and uh, just being an old guy, that's just a
another boost of energy for me.

Speaker 5 (52:28):
So I'm definitely grateful for him.

Speaker 27 (52:30):
He's he's uh person you also in the mewing room,
and he's talked about just the way that he asks
you guys a ton of questions and really kind of
put you guys on the spot as an older guy
or a better that's been around, like, how do you
what do you like.

Speaker 12 (52:41):
About that aspect of his style?

Speaker 5 (52:43):
Uh?

Speaker 25 (52:43):
It fortunate just to be engaged. It forced us to
really understand the schemes that we're doing. You know a
lot of times guys come in and you kind of
just really know your job.

Speaker 5 (52:52):
Mm uh.

Speaker 25 (52:53):
But it's it's just always good just to know football
in general, cause then you can kind of help yourself
when you're in the field of with the office trying
to do or what's your defensive coordinator trying to accomplish.
So I understand that football as a whole always helps.

Speaker 10 (53:05):
You mentioned the younger guy's person specifically, what are you
seeing from him as he kind of acclimates the NFL.

Speaker 3 (53:11):
Life and how you're on these fields.

Speaker 2 (53:13):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (53:13):
I wouldn't even say he's a young guy. Man.

Speaker 25 (53:15):
He he's one of those guys that he comes in,
he's a professional, he does thing, he's the right way. Uh,
he takes his time, he understands it. He he's gonna
have a long, uh successful career. And just for me,
it's just now I'm just teaching him how just to
be a pro and anyway I can help him. But
I I just say this, he's far along or more
far along than uh a lot of rookies.

Speaker 5 (53:36):
So uh, he's he's definitely gonna be good.

Speaker 11 (53:38):
Are a couple more Jordan retiring and maybe a little
bit more displayed than he he was anticipated. But I mean,
how how much does he leaning on somebody like you
Silvia the Veterans League.

Speaker 15 (53:47):
And we're just trying to get read of him.

Speaker 25 (53:49):
Uh yeah, I mean definitely, I hope he is. I
hope he's doing that. But like I said, I'm I'm
here just to help the young guys. I'm here just
to be somebody that can look up to and learn
from him. So uh that's fact what i'm'a do jo.

Speaker 5 (54:01):
I'm witw Jordan Rectyan kind of subby.

Speaker 13 (54:04):
It seems have you sign about the end of.

Speaker 25 (54:08):
Your career or y'all youth to said, Uh, I wouldn't say.
I I thought about it in terms of like one
is gonna end. It's one of those things of I
know eventually it is gonna end, but right now it's
it's it's one of those things.

Speaker 5 (54:21):
If I'm here Cleveland Brown I'm back home.

Speaker 25 (54:24):
I'm enjoying every day of it, uh, just cause I
know that one day it is gonna end.

Speaker 5 (54:28):
But right now I'm enjoying.

Speaker 14 (54:29):
I know you said your family's gonna be here and so,
but like, can you give us a little more background,
like how much of your like immediate close family is
still in the area and how many like friends from Benedictine.

Speaker 15 (54:38):
Do you still have?

Speaker 25 (54:39):
Yeah, so my mom and dad they still live here
in Cleveland. All my close friends, they all went to
ben and eighteen, they're still here. Someone's gonna be here today. Uh,
my little cousin, he goes to my high school. My
sister lives here, all my brothers live here. Pretty much
my whole family is still here. So uh it's not
like I'm everybody left or I don't think it's too

(55:02):
many people in my fielding that that left Cleveland. So
coming back home, it's truly home. I love the fact
that I can pretty much any day, I can go
to somebody else's house and eat.

Speaker 5 (55:11):
Their food and enjoy their time.

Speaker 12 (55:13):
So it's all good.

Speaker 24 (55:15):
And now that you're a Brown Browns player yourself, what
do in your words of Browns mean to Cleveland and
especially when they're successful.

Speaker 5 (55:23):
What can they do for this place?

Speaker 25 (55:26):
Just to put in perspective is like we always well,
I hope we always a part of when the Cleveland
Cavaliers won and the excitement they brung and the energy.

Speaker 5 (55:34):
That they've brung.

Speaker 25 (55:36):
Just times that by let's just say a hundred, that's
what's gonna feel, you know when we go out there
and win games and uh, we do the things we're
supposed to do.

Speaker 5 (55:47):
So I'm happy for it.

Speaker 1 (55:50):
Finally, head coach Kevin Stefanski highlights some of the position
battles on the Browns and where they stand heading into
the weekend.

Speaker 22 (55:58):
Okay, before we get started, I just want to uh
acknowledge the people in Lorraine, in our community that are
hurting some senseless violence against our police officers. Officer Philip
Wagner who lost his life in this to officers were injured,
Officer Peter Gale, Brent Payne. We are thinking about the

(56:22):
community in Lorraine. We're thinking about everybody in law enforcement
that keeps us safe. It's a it's a tough, tough
news and I know they're going through it and I
just want them to know we're thinking of them as
they go through this where they're they're certainly in our
thoughts and prayers. I just want to make sure that
we acknowledge that before we get started. When to acknowledge
Jordan Hicks obviously a player a person that I have

(56:47):
an amazing amount of respect for. Jordan played really really
good football for us, that played at an extremely high level,
and he was even better off the field in what
he was able to give to this football team. So
an amazing career, one that needs to be celebrated. And
just want you to know that that we support him.
Obviously in his decision. We'll miss him, but he's somebody

(57:10):
that I have a ton of respect for him.

Speaker 15 (57:12):
So if that'll take any.

Speaker 2 (57:13):
Questions about that linebacker, you'll lift the linebacker Corey.

Speaker 15 (57:16):
It's such a young group we.

Speaker 3 (57:20):
Jerum and Devin.

Speaker 20 (57:21):
Just how much more does it require them to I
know they've played some football, but not as much how
much as the puding to kind of grow up as
much off as on the field.

Speaker 22 (57:32):
I think that oftentimes happens Chris and football. When you
lose a player dude injury or retirement or whatever, there's
opportunities that come up for younger players.

Speaker 15 (57:41):
And you know in this day and age.

Speaker 22 (57:43):
Young players play early in this at these positions, so
they may be counted on.

Speaker 15 (57:49):
And that's why we're working so hard.

Speaker 22 (57:51):
That's why we're trying to be efficient with everything we do,
maximize every rep and minute that we have with these
young men to get them ready to play.

Speaker 15 (57:59):
Conversation with what's.

Speaker 14 (58:00):
This something that he was thinking about?

Speaker 15 (58:04):
I would, yeah, I would.

Speaker 22 (58:05):
Let I don't want to speak for Jordan's I'll let
him speak for himself. But uh, you know, we talked
earlier this week and I support whatever.

Speaker 15 (58:15):
I obviously support whatever decision he.

Speaker 6 (58:16):
Made yesterday at the end of practice.

Speaker 12 (58:19):
Is that what you call an opportunity period?

Speaker 15 (58:21):
Yes, yeah, We've always done that.

Speaker 22 (58:25):
You know, I am thinking I asked coach Schwartz if
I can rebrand it to hungry Dogs because coach has
a great line that hungry dogs run faster.

Speaker 15 (58:35):
So that may just be.

Speaker 22 (58:36):
Called our hungry Dog period, but that's copyright Jim Schwartz.
But the idea there is, you know, some of the
guys that aren't inting a ton of of reps, let's
go get a team period yesterday where we'll do skills
and drills. Today, we'll do a seven on seven another day.
It's just an opportunity for those guys to get better.

Speaker 3 (58:55):
Kevin, I know you've been asked a lot about your
deals since.

Speaker 20 (58:58):
He's I mean, just all the attention, all the focus,
everything that you know he generates.

Speaker 2 (59:04):
You know, as he says content, how of just the
way you how impressed have you been? Just the way
he's handled all of that that that's come his way.

Speaker 22 (59:12):
Yeah, I think Shador does a nice job of keeping
the main thing the main thing. He's working very hard
in the building, in the meeting room, in the weight room.
Out here on the field, he's working hard and keeping
his head down and attention that comes with it. And
in this day and age, that's something that our guys
do a great job of off the field, is including
our fans and what they're doing. But he does a

(59:34):
great job of keeping the focus where it.

Speaker 1 (59:35):
Needs to be, gets his place the.

Speaker 5 (59:41):
Job.

Speaker 25 (59:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 22 (59:42):
I think all those things are what will work through Tony.
I don't think that we're setting a depth chart in
any way.

Speaker 9 (59:49):
Since we talked to George and we asked him about that,
he really hasn't gotten a chance.

Speaker 14 (59:54):
To work with the starterge I know it's one in
two days.

Speaker 9 (59:57):
But will we see a little bit more of that
or maybe the two's or something like that today.

Speaker 22 (01:00:02):
Yeah, Like I told you, guys, we'll continue to rep
these guys throughout the last couple of days. Next week
we'll move guys around. I think for any of our players,
it's really just focusing on what you're have in front
of you. And he's done a great job with them.

Speaker 21 (01:00:16):
Because Mike Wood's gonna be up there to day.

Speaker 22 (01:00:19):
Mike will be out here today he's dealing with a
hand injury, but he maybe if he's not out here,
he's inside getting treatment.

Speaker 12 (01:00:25):
So there was excited to receive it this morning.

Speaker 22 (01:00:28):
He did have anything to do with everything, has everything
to do with everything, Scott, It's all connected.

Speaker 15 (01:00:33):
Yeah, yes, no drum forward today, not today, but progressing.

Speaker 5 (01:00:39):
He's close.

Speaker 21 (01:00:41):
Kevin, was that period at the end that resident at
the end where Sugar was out there?

Speaker 5 (01:00:45):
Yesterday's some bettads. I think there's a penalty late.

Speaker 21 (01:00:48):
I guess what are the coach modes off of that,
especially for him and maybe how he can handle that
when things are.

Speaker 22 (01:00:53):
Going badly well offensively, we have to do a much
better job there. Uh that we had too many operational
issues just center quarterback exchange. We had a false start,
so we can do a better job. And then you know,
we repeated those plays that we could get some reps.

Speaker 15 (01:01:10):
But I think there's opportunities for quarterbacks.

Speaker 22 (01:01:13):
Even there will be a play where the quarterback is
likely sacked, you know, if you're playing real football, But
we continue to play as quarterbacks so that we can
get a rep of off schedule, get a rep of
scramble drill. So even in those moments where yeah, things
didn't go the way that you want them, it's not clean,
it's not three and a hitch balls out.

Speaker 15 (01:01:31):
I think there's still plenty to learn from those reps.
Would it be easier though, or.

Speaker 3 (01:01:35):
I don't know if easier to write part?

Speaker 22 (01:01:37):
But when you are watching a guy likes the.

Speaker 9 (01:01:40):
World and the center snappers changeing is challenging, do you
want to see him work with some higher level of
talent to see.

Speaker 5 (01:01:50):
What he can actually do?

Speaker 15 (01:01:51):
Yeah, I think it's I understand the question.

Speaker 22 (01:01:53):
I would say, we will continue to rep the guys
in different with different teams, centers, all of that, and
that was you know, that was a we need to
be better in that period there, Mary.

Speaker 15 (01:02:06):
Kay, which we will be today.

Speaker 22 (01:02:08):
But you know I was saying earlier, everything our players
do is a it's an all encompassing evaluation.

Speaker 5 (01:02:14):
It's it's a it's.

Speaker 22 (01:02:15):
Never gonna be about one player one period here and there.
It's gonna be about everything they do, including uh, you
know this preseason.

Speaker 13 (01:02:22):
Think Kevin Martin Emerson, he said and saw he was
not happy with the last season.

Speaker 5 (01:02:29):
So what have you seen from him?

Speaker 18 (01:02:31):
I know it's saying a couple of days.

Speaker 12 (01:02:33):
Here, but even then a camp all that may maybe better.

Speaker 10 (01:02:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 22 (01:02:36):
MJ is a very determined young man. I appreciate that
he feels like he didn't play at his best. I mean,
he's right, He's got such a high ceiling. We've seen
him play at such a high level over the course
of time. He will bounce back. And it's no there's
no secret to it, there's no magic want it's just
from him working really, really hard. He's a kid that
is in here all the time, constantly working at his craft,

(01:02:58):
working on his body. So I expect him to have
a big, big bounce back here.

Speaker 6 (01:03:02):
Kevin Dylan was talking about like when he's not getting
actual reps the stuff he does Shamson or or Gabriel's, Oh,
Dylan Gabriel, when he's not getting actual reps, you know
he values those mental reps and things like that. What
are your expectations of these guys when they're not actually
taking reps.

Speaker 15 (01:03:17):
It's a good question.

Speaker 22 (01:03:18):
I think you'll if you watch behind when you know
you have one player in there right, a lot of
times you'll see the quarterbacks behind walking through the play
as it's happening about twenty yards behind.

Speaker 15 (01:03:29):
I think that's one way to get it.

Speaker 22 (01:03:30):
I think we have those walk through rooms up there
where you can put it on a specific angle where
you can get a full speed rep and it's a
terf floor in there, so you can take a drop.

Speaker 15 (01:03:39):
So that's one way to replicate it.

Speaker 22 (01:03:41):
But the term we've used is we're trying to steal
reps any which way we can.

Speaker 15 (01:03:47):
Of course, the absolute best way is to be in
in the moment and get that rep.

Speaker 22 (01:03:51):
Unfortunately, you're not gonna get every single rep, so how
you find ways to steal those you have to get
creative about it.
