training camp in twenty twenty five. As we're two days
away from the first preseason game of the season, as
your Cleveland Browns are on the road in Carolina to
take on the Panthers on Friday night at Bank of
America Stadium. Good Evening, Friends, Ken Carmen alongside of Gerad Cherry.
It's the Cleveland Browns Preview Show presented by Tostitos, the

(01:24):
official Chip and Dip partner of your Cleveland Browns. Girard
Good Evening, my friend.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
Good Evening, Kenneth, how are you doing.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
I'm man oh, I'm doing wonderful. It's wonderful to see
your face again. I know you're down with the football
team as you're getting ready to do sidelines coming up
on Friday night, seven pm. I think it's time we
get going with four downs first number one. Welcome to
the twenty twenty five season, my friends, and we'll get
right down to it. Girod give me your thoughts and
takeaways from today's joint practice with the Panthers. I'm hearing

(01:54):
from all the way up here. I'm about seven hours
away from Charlotte, North Carolina, and I'm hearing all the
way up here. Off a defensive line looked very nice today.

Speaker 5 (02:02):
Yeah, the running game certainly was have an impact. He
saw some really nice runs. And the other thing too
that was much better than what we saw in training
camp against our own squad was pass pro. So you
saw some positive plays. But I would qualify ken really
as a professional practice. No one was trying to hurt anyone.
The intensity was there, but it wasn't to the point
where there was some clear dislike between the two squads.

(02:24):
But certainly some work got done. But I will say this.
We have to do a much better job of not
penalizing ourselves with the pre snap penalties that reared ugly
head on many of occasions today, way too many for
my life.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Oh, that could be very tough. You know, that hurt
us last year and now there was a lot of
things going on offensively. Last year was a really tough
thing to deal with. You know, halfway through the year,
some of the changes that were made to the offense.
Of course Deshaun Watson's unfortunate injury, and then you had
to make even more changes to the offense. So you know,
you can't have those pre snap penalties, especially with some
of the young ones who were taking over different positions.
Dwan Jones over at that left tackle spot. You got

(02:59):
some pops there. Speaking of Dewan, saw a couple of
videos of him down there. How's he looking today?

Speaker 5 (03:05):
Well, I like the fact that one of the players
I said, it wasn't that much acrimony taking place between
the Panthers and the Browns. There was a situation though,
when Duan let it be known that he was not
going to allow them to fall on his backs and
not say anything about it. So there was some chatter
and you need that to let people know that, hey,
you're not gonna treat us any kind of way. So
he was doing that. But for the most part, I
thought he did a fairly good job. And then when

(03:26):
you think about the rest of the office line, again
we held our own and if I felt it was
much better, better than what we had seen in practice,
because really we were having a hard time against our
own defense of even getting a ball snapped, let alone
being able to perhaps productive plays. But we were certainly
in my mind, much better today and we had a
fishing job. Again, it falls back on the pre snap penalties.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
We've heard a lot about Luke Florio, We've heard a
lot about Gage Larvadane. What are some of the names
that stuck out to you today in this practice? I'm
talking about camp, But what about today Wednesday against Carolina,
I'd imagine to be more of the ones on both
those sides.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
Yeah, with Jerry Judy and Tillan certainly made their presence felt.
Especially Jerry Judy. He was dominant, and for some reason
several of the Carolina Panthers, deep as the backs, wanted
to say something negative to him, and Jerry simply told
him check the tape, I cook you guys, and they
had nothing to say after that.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Yeah, after last year, you know, Jerry again regarded as
one of the best wide receivers in all the NFL,
and you mentioned that Carolina Panthers defense. You know, they
were a decent group as time went on last year.
They're hoping to be the same way coming up in
twenty twenty five, and they seem to have a new
lease on life with Bryce Young, their young quarterback. We'll
talk more about them coming up here momentarily, but let's
get to second down, Second down, Big News of the

(04:38):
day QB. One Friday night in Carolina, Shedor Senders gets
the start, new editions, new Puntley's gonna play as well,
No Flacco, no Picket, no Gabriel Pickett and Gabriel Or
because of the hamstring injuries. Joe, we know him very well,
the grand old man. He's forty years old. You know
you're gonna get the best out of him. So he's
gonna be held out in that game. But what are
you seeing with Shoe Sanders throughout the dis camp and

(05:02):
what do you expect to get out of him coming
up on Friday night?

Speaker 5 (05:06):
Well, I call him seventy percent Sanders, because every time
he steps on the football field, he's throwing as a
seventy percent of completion. So that right there is gonna
get you on the football feel more often than not.
But what I'm seeing really is a guy who does
not look like you're a typical what we design as
a fifth round draft pick. He doesn't play like that,
he doesn't look like that. He certainly doesn't act like that.

(05:26):
So what we do have, in my mind is a
guy who has opportunity. Because it's being characterized as him
being thrown under the bus, and I'm sending myself, Ken,
how's the opportunity to start a football game in the
National Football League? Be it preseason, let alone regular season
a bad thing? It's an opportunity. It's the opportunity to
go out there and shine. And if he goes out
there in shines, that's only gonna help his cause. So

(05:49):
I've been impressed with what I've seen. I feel that
when he's on the football field, I see a different
type of energy take place. I see him move the
football effectively, And I really have been impressed with what
I've seen out of him so far.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Looking at it from a different perspective, jord do you
host a show in the afternoon, I host a show
in the morning. I did not realize. I knew that
there were people who were detractors of him. I didn't
realize that there were people in the internet fighting over
him so much over the last four years. And we're
getting our first taste. And my head's kind of spinning

(06:20):
of it because it's like, ain't no one happy about anything?
You know, crazy things are being said about him, and
I you know, asking everybody with the Browns, asking everybody
coming the Browns are going No, they're doing us as
right as they possibly can do. By shoot or because
you look at the system he came from in college
to what he's going to deal with with the NFL.
It might take some time. Ceilings high. We know where
he could have been taken. He ends up being taken

(06:41):
by the Browns in day three. But you want to
bring him along the right way.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
Oh, you certainly want to do that. Another part though,
Ken and a lot of people are missing, this part
of it being the fourth streen quarterback, having the minimum
amount of reps. That may create a sense of urgency
about you, and that may put you in a spot
to where you truly are going to have to earn
it to be in that spot the one day that
you are a starter. And I am convinced the best
type of starter for a quarterback that you want is

(07:06):
a guy who's been through the fire. You want a
guy who's at an uphill battle all the way, especially
if he's gonna don a Cleveland Brown's uniform, because we
already know quarterbacks have come here and they don't survive
coming here, and if you go through hell to get
to that place, you may just be one of those survivors.
So I think what's going on for him is the
best case scenario because it's truly preparing him to be
in a space to where he's gonna have to earn it.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
It will not be given.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
What if you thought about the QB competition so far
throughout this camp.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
Well, I think it's been one in which pretty much
I walked away from it saying that Joe Flacco is
clearly still the best quarterback on the roster, and eighteen
years of playing in the National Football League should provide
that as an accurate statement on my part. And then
with Kenny, obviously the hamstring is gonna truly hamstring his
game because Parver's game is wiggling. He doesn't have that.
And then with Gabriel, you see a guy who's getting

(07:54):
the majority of the reps and they're definitely developing him
and you see some promise there as well. And with Shadur,
I said, I love what I'm seeing. He's throwing at
seventy percentile. How can you complain about that? So I
haven't said that anyone has distinguished themselves to wear as
far and above, but it's still clear in my mind
that Joe Flacco is the best quarterback that we have
on the roster right now.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Time for third down, Third down. So we've had two
weeks of training camp here, Jerrod, let's recap it. Outside
of the quarterbacks, we've all talked about the quarterback so
so much rount this first two weeks of camp. However,
what are your concerns outside? Can I just start with mine?
I think it might be secondary depth with the injuries
that we've had so unfortunate to lose M. J Emerson

(08:34):
for the year with that achilles.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
Yeah, that's certainly one. But also look at the receiver position.
We're gonna need Deontay Johnson to emerge. We're gonna need
sedgri Tilman to emerge and play at a high level
because right now, if you look at the receiver room,
who you circling Jerry Judy? You should do that anyway.
But what happens if he's in the spot to where
he goes out for a game or two, Who's gonna
step up? Who's gonna emerge? So for me, it's still

(08:56):
the receiver position. I'm confident that the tight end position
that in Djoku will return to for him, and I
love what I'm seeing out a fan in junior. But
for me, again, I go back to receivers and running backs.
We already know that's plug and play. These guys come
from college able to play on the high level in
the pros.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
I think it's a very big camp and I think
a lot of Brons fans would obviously agree. It's a
very big camp in a very big season for Cedric Tillman.
You know, year one, a lot of getting to learn things.
You remember that game against the Bears, Joe Flacco talking
to him about the right props right out. Man, It's
very very difficult to do that. And then last year,
a lot of that season lost because of the head injury.

(09:32):
It's a pivotal year for Cedric Tillman and then of
course Harold fannin junior that rookie can'ton Ohio having a
very nice camp himself. He's standing out to you, girod.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
Oh, Yeah, I love what I'm seeing and that he's
making plays catching the football. Now today he had a
couple opportunities and he took advantage of him. But yeah,
I think he's gonna be a pivotal part because I
think he's gonna be that guy where you said, where's
the mismatch at can a dB really stick with him?
They had a physical presence to do that can align
back or run with him. So he may be the
got it again. It's not getting the attention, but ultimately

(10:02):
gonna start drawing their attention to him because I think
he's gonna create a lot mismatches for our offense.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Time for fourth down, fourth down. So last year the
Carolina Panthers went into the season, this is our opponent
coming up on Friday night, seven pm, all along the
University Hospitals Cleveland Browns Radio Network. Panthers in twenty twenty four, five,
and twelve, their first year with Dave Canalis, and you
know a lot of people had Bryce Young on the
mat and we're giving up on him. But he started

(10:28):
to get things going in that second year with the
Carolina Panthers. Talking to people down in Carolina, down and
Charlotte about this football team, what do they expect odd
of Bryce Young this year and second year head coach
Dave Canalis.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
Well, they're expecting them take that next step, because you're
absolutely right in your assessment.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Kid.

Speaker 5 (10:43):
Last year, everyone was ready to bury him, especially when
he got replaced by Dalton, But that time off, he
took it the right way. He observed, he'd learned. He
came back and played the higher level football and quarterback
obviously it was a position he plays, so you applaud that.
And even today, I gotta give him credit. He has
some positive plays out there on the football field. So
he's certainly taking a step in the right direction. Before

(11:05):
the Carolina Panthers, if anything, they're saying, okay, we got
issues on offensive side of the ball, and we also
have issues with stopping the run and that was a
major problem with them last year. So they're in a
very interesting division in the NFC South. But for Bryce
Young in particular. I think he can take another step
this year. And it's all starts with having the right
quarterback head coach relationship. And it seems to me that
Dave Canal understands him and they're making the right connection.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Yeah, and they had a very interesting draft. You know,
they go, they get Tech McMillan for Bryce Sean, the
kid on Arizona. A lot of things said about him,
and I tell you I got defensive of Tech McMillan
before the draft because you know, some people were going,
motor motor, motor, motor motor. I'm going, guys, he's playing
for Arizona, girod you know college football as much as
anybody in the city of Cleveland. And that's saying something.
We've got guys like Phil Steele here for crying out up.
But you watch Tep McMillan during the season like he's

(11:50):
the only part of their offense. Of course, he's gonna
be gas to try to keep them in football games
with last year's first year head coach and Brett Brennan,
so I think Tep McMillan could be a great addition
for them. Then they go they get Nick's scoring in
the second round, after their trades with the Bears and
the Broncos, they go edge again with the kid out
of all miss in the third round. So they're trying
to build inside out. But of course they wanted to
get someone because they traded away Djmore a couple of

(12:13):
years ago. They wanted to get somebody for Bryce Young
that's gonna be able to help him out and help
this offense out.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
Right, Jerry speaking, you're gonna get your quarterback, a tackle
or a wide receiver that if you really are truly
serious about supporting him, and they did just that.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Yeah, you're right about that. Okay. For the Browns here,
our expectations are what coming up on Friday.

Speaker 5 (12:31):
The expectations are to play clean football on the offensive
side of the ball, move it up and down the
football field. That'll be a departure from last year and
the pre snap pilties we saw today in practice. Get
away from that. That is your cancer. That is something
that cannot take place on a continuum because if it does,
you're not gonna win football games because the margin for

(12:53):
air for us is not great. So you have to
make sure that you're not making these pre snap pilties.
So if I'm seeing what the young, inexperienced quarterback in
there and then moving up and down the football field
and not having pre snap pilmies and able to score
some points. I'm gonna be extremely encouraged Kin by what
I see.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
You're an interesting character here, Girod because, like you know,
you talked to Doug Deacon. Doug was part of the
six game preseason. Everybody played. Everybody played as much as
they could because they had to play themselves into shape.
There was really no off season program that was a
part time job. You you were in the four game preseason,
you kind of went into the era of Hey, starters

(13:32):
ain't playing, but you played for the Patriots, right, and
the Patriots the Patriots are a different animal, so guess
what you're gonna play. So what was it like then
to see your era of it where hey, we're kind
of crossing over into not maybe many starters are gonna
be playing in some of these games, to where you
were at where it's like, hey, it's preseason, this is
an opportunity. We're gonna get our reps and get our

(13:52):
work in.

Speaker 5 (13:53):
Yeah, And I'm still in the mindset that you always
better serve Kin playing football, and that even though these
practices are design for specific scenarios to work on red zone,
goal line and certain type of looks and all that
against another opponent, that certainly has helped. I still believe
that the best way to play football effectively to start
the season and to end the season is to build

(14:15):
that during the course of training camp in preseason football games. Now, granted,
there no one's gonna do what they used to do
and have guys play into the third quarter of a
preseason football game that day is certainly gone. But the
idea of guys at least playing a quarter or two,
I don't think that's bad suit because think about it.
The Kansas City Chiefs correct me if I'm wrong, Ken
Have they been a pivotal player in the last five

(14:38):
to ten.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Years in the Super Bowl? Yes?

Speaker 6 (14:41):
They have.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
And guess what they do with their starters. They play,
They play them in preseason football games.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
They play them, and those starters want to play. So
I mean, they go out, they get their work done,
and I think they have great talent. But certainly it
has sharpened that iron for that football team to basically
dominate the AFC West. I think the Chargers might have
something for him later on this year. But certainly that
is a great franchise with Kansas City. I know it
starts with talent, but they've been a tough, tough team.

Speaker 5 (15:06):
Right they certainly have. Ingranted there are multiple ways in
which you can have success, because one could make the argument, well,
look at the Denver Broncos. Look the forty nine ers
of the past. What did they do? They didn't even
have Pattock practices and they won Super Bowls, So there's
something to be said. Ultimately, it's about finding the structure
and the way in which you can get your team
to a space to where they can play football at
a high level. And I'm of the opinion Ken that

(15:27):
our football team needs to depart from obviously what took
place last year when we went three and fourteen, and
get to a space to where we're the toughest, the smartest,
and the cleanest football team. And I'm not talking about Jerseys,
I'm talking about how we play well.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
We've known that they've certainly been going after it this
year in camp. Tackle under the ground almost unheard of
in camp, So it's certainly been a tougher camp so far.
And we'll talk a little bit about that with Joe
Thomas coming up here in just a moment. Also andrews cciliano,
the voice of Your Cleveland Browns. He'll be joined by
Jack Conklin. He talked to him after practice today at
the joint practice between the Cleveland Browns and the Carolina Panthers.

(16:01):
So that's coming up on the show and a time
honored tradition unlike any other, we will give the division
previews and we will go around the league. Usually Gerond

This month's winner of the Local Business Platform, presented by

Ridge Barbershop dot com to book your next haircut. Ken
Carmon alongside of Gerrod Sheerry getting ready for the Browns
and Panthers coming up at Bank of America Stadium and Charlotte,
North Carolina Friday night, seven pm. Gerrod, before the Hoff
joins us here, you're going over a couple of names

(17:23):
that aren't any of the quarterbacks, Kenny Pigan, Dylan Gabriel,
Joe flakoshid Or Sanders obviously, and some of the names
that kind of go under the radar because we have
a four quarterback room that's healthy right now, and then
you add Tyler Huntley to it. We got five guys
that are healthy right now. But with that loss of
Martin Emerson Junior, last week with that Achilles injury, and
it was so unfortunate you and I mentioned a little

(17:43):
bit in the open of the show because he this
was gonna be a big year. This had to be
a big year for him. He's already going into year three,
year one, so good year two a lot was expected,
didn't really get off to the right start and kind
of play catch up the entire year. But now with
him out, and it's unfortunate to say, but now you
look at a guy like Cam Mitchell, who was a

(18:04):
late ron pick a couple of years ago. He steps
into a different role. Greg new somewhere you know his
future is always gonna be up in the air. He
steps into a different role. With those two guys, what
are those challenges that lay for them? When you're looking
at a defense that might play a lot of nickel
where you have denzol Ward on one side, He's still
have Grant Delpit as a safety. But now you have
a lott of pressure on Greg Newsom, who's a former

(18:26):
first round pick and a really young guy Cam Mitchell.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Well, what you're gonna have as teams say and try
to identify this guy's a weak link or we're gonna
see if he really is a week link because obviously,
when MJ's out there with Greg, you have one of
the more formerle secondaries in the National Football League alone
with Grant and Delpit. And what I think is is
more for the nickel back because we're gonna play more
and see more eleven personnel than anything, and that it's

(18:50):
gonna be impaired that Cam goes out there and flat
out just establishes himself that no come this way, and
you're gonna pay a price. And that really has to
be his add tune and his approach because they are
going to try him more so than anyone else. So
that's what I anticipate, is that Cam's gonna be the
guy which they're gonna try to go after first and
foremost and see if they can get some mismatches there,
because why would it make sense to even go Denzel

(19:12):
Ward's way, even though he's gonna be matched up obviously
with the team's best receiver.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Yeah, you're really not gonna throw at twenty one two
very much. You're probably gonna throw out a couple of
those young guys there back there. And also Miles Harden
is on this roster, seventh round pick last year, who
really started to show some nice things during camp last season,
looking at that defense continuing because it looked like the
defensive line was very good. Alex right back healthy, got
a lot of good work in today against the Carolina Panthers.

(19:36):
But a couple of these rookies that we don't get
a chance to talk about. You know, Carson Swessinger, that
second round pick. A lot of people call him a
tackling machine. What may be expected for him because you know,
without Jeremiah Wusua Cooramoa this year, you're looking for not
just a guy who can run around, make plays, can
can kind of play that tweet er, maybe that dollar
type of linebacker a little bit, but also a guy

(19:56):
who can provide some leadership on the field.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
Well, they've already.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
And the amazing thing is is that he's been accepted
by the veterans on this squad and that he's calling
the players from the huddle, and I don't see the
guys looking at him sideways and not respecting his command.
You see guys out there appreciating the level of effort
and energy and insight that he's put into the game.
So as a rookie. He's certainly on the right track
and path of what he's doing and how he's establishing

(20:21):
his level of play on the football field. Because one
of the things which you do when you're out there
and you observe him ken you see he's sideline a sideline.
You see he's physical in his approach. And if you're
gonna be a mill linebacker in the National Football League,
you want that guy to be that type of description
that I just gave. And on top of that, nine
times out of ten these guys are undersized. He actually

(20:41):
brings something to it and you're gonna have to have that.
Who do we play against twice a year, Derrick Henry
So I love the fact that he has some size
and some girth about him.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
Drid, you'rself right about that, and seeing the way that
he's able to play so far this year or so
far in this camp, it gives you a lot to
go off of and a lot to hope for coming
up during the twenty twenty five season. Let's go to
the hot line. Now we welcome in the Hall of
Famer one of the Browns all time great so, one
of the all time great guys, Joe Thomas joins us
right now on the Hotline to recap today's joint practice

(21:13):
to get you ready for Friday night, as well as
he'll be on News fives coverage of the first preseason
game of the year against the Carolina Panthers. Joe, thanks
for joining us tonight.

Speaker 6 (21:22):
Yeah, thanks for having me on. Guys.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
First off, what were your impressions of the Browns sign
of things and maybe even a little bit of the
Panthers sign of things in this joint practice today.

Speaker 6 (21:31):
Well, first, I'll say, I guess you can't really tell
too much from a joint practice because there's no game plan.
You know, oftentimes they got guys that are maybe sitting
out a little bit. There's some different tempos depending on
the type of camp you've had. But I can say
one hundred percent without a doubt that the Browns kicked
the Panthers booty today. I mean, it was complete domination.

(21:52):
The offensive and defensive lines for the Browns were utterly dominant,
from one on one pass rush all the way through
the team drills into the end of practice. Joe Flacco
made some great throws down the field to Jerry Judy
should where Sanders had some good moments, and so I
think overall, the Browns are feeling really good. Actually, I
know they were feeling good because I was sitting in
the meetings with him tonight and going through the film

(22:15):
doing a little coaching this week little guest spot, and
everybody was feeling themselves pretty good. So being able to
carry that over to Friday for the game, we'll see.
But at least today they had a great day and
they got some wins in the bank.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
And Joe first and foremost, thank you for the beef sticks.
I took those bad boys home, chopped him up, put
him in some porking beans, and it was.

Speaker 6 (22:35):
All baby, oh baby, you're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
And a little new recipe for you Hall of Fame
beefstick clovers out there.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
That being sent my min.

Speaker 5 (22:46):
I saw you coaching up Dwan Jones, and obviously he's
a big guy and he has a lot of physical presence,
and I really appreciate the fact that he's demonstrative and
talkative to other teams and when we were playing, and
today I saw it with the Carolina Panthers in your
instruction to him, what are you trying to get.

Speaker 6 (23:01):
Across Well, I think the first thing I want to
try to get to him is just try to help
him learn a process that works for him, right, because
that was such an important part for me when I
was trying to get myself a little bit better every
single game and every single year, and then looking back
on my career, I think a big part of it
was like I built a really good process and I

(23:21):
had some great veterans around me that kind of helped
me have that process and find something that works for
me where each day I can learn, I can be
critical myself and my performance, I can figure out ways
to build new goals to get better at something every
single day, and also just figuring out exactly, okay, if
it worked, great, let's do that again, only in maybe

(23:41):
with a different skill set. But if it didn't work, okay,
how am I going to get around this problem and
figure out a different way to attack it? And I
think being that I'm only going to be out with
the wand working with him for a short period of time.
Off at the line plays about learning a million things
and getting a million reps to be proficient at it.
But if I can teach him some basic prints, well
some baseline understanding of biomechanics and a process of all right,

(24:04):
this is my checklist when I'm going to the line
of scrimmage. This is my checklist during the week. This
is my checklist and the practice. This is how I
critically evaluate myself so I can continually improve. Like that's
the best thing that I can do for him as
a player.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
Was there a time where you might have talked to
him during the offseason, Joe, because he seems like a sponge.
I mean I talked to him last week out of
training camp, and you know, going back to last year,
he's like, you know, I'm not really left tackle, Kenny,
And then this year he's like, oh yeah, I was
definitely open to playing left tackle. Was there like a
was there something that went off in his head that
a light come on? Did he just decide, you know what,

(24:38):
maybe right tackle isn't it. Maybe left tackles it. I
can slim down, I could do things better, my footwork
can be better here. What was it during this winter
that changed him?

Speaker 6 (24:47):
Well, Dwan and I actually talked quite a bit. I
mean he's a great guy. Like, as you know, Ken,
he's a sponge. He's a guy that just loves learning,
he loves growing. He's respectful and he can tell it's important.
And I think that's awesome because it makes him fun
to coach. And I'm not sure what the light bulb
moment was, but he's a guy that wants to be good.

(25:08):
He wants to be on the field, and you know,
he's a guy that loves NASCAR. And I just told him, like,
I'm not sure if you saw the contract that Rashaun
Slater just got as a left tackle, but you can
buy about fifty NASCAR race cars for the amount of
money that they're paying these left tackles these days. So hey, man,
if for nothing else, go do it for a big
contract it. Hey, you're a big man, you're extremely athletic,
you have a rare set of god given ability that

(25:30):
few humans that walk the faces of the earth have,
and you know what, at left tackle, they pay a
lot of money to do it. So I don't know
if that edything to do with it, but he's definitely motivated.
And the improvement that he made from Monday when I
worked with them today was really exciting because you could
see it, and then the cool thing is you could
hear it. Drod I'm not sure if you've heard how
vocal he can be sometimes, but all of a sudden,

(25:51):
you can tell when somebody's getting confidence in what they're
doing when they start yapping a little bit, they start chirping,
not necessarily trash talking the other team, but they're the
ones in that hottle telling the other guys let's go,
you know, holding them accountable. It's that voice that you're hearing.
And I heard that a lot from Dewan today and
that was really encouraging.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
I knew I liked him for some reason. I knew
we got along for a reason here it is because
we both like NASCAR. Mike Bloomgrin. What does he bring
to the table. I was really excited about this hire,
this winner.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
Yeah, I think it was a great hire. It's been
really fun working with him. He's got a wealth of knowledge,
wealth of experience at all different levels of football, and
he's a guy that he really drills into the minutia.
And I think he's a very very detail oriented person,
which I think is really important for any offensive line coach.
And you can see it already. I mean, they to

(26:39):
me just started training camp. I know they've been here
for a couple of weeks, but it's not like they're
six weeks in like back in the day when you
had training camp that lasted forever. But you can already
see the guys have picked up on a lot of
detail of minutia and they're able to make checks and
corrections on the field that normally you're kind of expecting
a team to be well into the season before. They're

(27:00):
learning at that graduate type level and able to correct
any problems that they're seeing on the field.

Speaker 5 (27:06):
And then Joe far As, last year, obviously the office
production was not there, and we're getting back to doing
things we did in the past. From the running game perspective,
what do you appreciate about, for example, your former teammate
Joel Potonio and what he can bring to the table
going back to what he does best of being a
pulling guard.

Speaker 6 (27:25):
Yeah, I mean you can tell the emphasis this year
is run the ball, play defense, take shots, and play action,
because that's been the emphasis. We had a red zone
period today where we were running the football. We were
smashing the ball up inside with traps, with guard pulled
crack GE's toss counters. It was really cool to just
see that physicality come back to the Kevin Stefanski offense

(27:47):
running the ball from under center, and the guys that
responded to I mean, you got two of the best,
most physical guards in football, you might as well use them.
And I think they're going to do that this year.
And you saw the dividends were being paid out there
today already.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Joe, we can't thank you enough for the time. We
know you're very busy. We'll be watching you on News
five on Friday and we'll talk to you again soon.

Speaker 6 (28:05):
Take care, Yeah, guys, have a great night. Thanks for
having me on.

Speaker 3 (28:08):

the University Hospitals Cleveland Browns Radio Network. Hey, this is

(28:54):
Grand Dope It. Hey this is mouth Care.

Speaker 7 (28:56):
This is Joel Metonio, and you're listening to the University
Hospitals Cleveland Browns Network.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
University Hospitals is your.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Hometown medical teams, official healthcare provider of the Cleveland Browns.

Speaker 3 (29:06):
One of the very finest about of Michigan State by
way of Tennessee. Jack Conklin a veteran who's become a
tremendous hand for your Cleveland Browns. He's down with the
Cleveland Browns right now as they get set to take
on the Carolina Panthers. He participated in the day's group
practice between the Panthers and the Cleveland Browns, and the
voice of your Brons, Andrews Isciliano, sat down with Jack

(29:26):
after practice and the players spawnlight.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
Jack Conklin, get to play against hit somebody different than
the guy wearing bright and orange. What was day one
out here? You avoided the rain and got didn't work
against the Panthers.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
Yeah, I know. It's great.

Speaker 7 (29:40):
You know anytime you get to you know, get a
new perspective, play against guys they even playing with all,
you know, week after week, and get some new experience,
played different front. It's it's all positive, it's all good stuff,
and it's it's really just a it's a fun experience
with the players.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
And the one on one droll is fun as well, right, Yeah, you.

Speaker 7 (29:56):
Know, it gets high intensity and attention here can you
can rise? But everybody was good. It was a good
effort by all the guys and they stayed clean.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
The We talked about the change of scenery. Obviously you
face another team, but this is officially like the dog Days,
isn't it of training camp?

Speaker 7 (30:11):
Yeah, definitely definitely. You know we're going into about week
three and you know we've been here.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
That's the great part.

Speaker 7 (30:15):
About these these joint practices. You start to get a
little frustrated with each other, the offense, defense on our
own team, and it's nice to be able to split
that up and play against another team and and uh,
I think it really just brings our team together.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
How do you feel about the run game today?

Speaker 7 (30:28):
You know, there's ups and downs. You know, playing a
different front is always an experience, you know, something we've
been playing against our defense, but we did a good job.
The effort was there, and there's there's definitely things clean up,
but that's part of camp.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Yeah, definitely, and obviously working a bunch of different running
backs in there as well. It's really can you get
a feel on the run game in training camp or
do you need game action.

Speaker 7 (30:49):
You can get a feel, you can get a field.
The game action definitely helps. But you know, we have
a pretty you know, experience offensive line. A bunch of
guys have played together for a long time. So really
for us, it's just you know, building building through camp,
and you know, everywhere I've been, the offense always takes
a little bit longer than the defense. During camp, we
just have a lot to install a lot of things
and it just takes some cohesion and building on reps
and we're doing that right now, and like you said,

(31:11):
we're in the dog days of that. So it's just
keep getting.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
Better and better.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
What do you think of coach Joe Thomas.

Speaker 7 (31:16):
It's great anytime you can have a Hall of Famer
out there, you know, especially tackle to bounce things off of,
and have him in the meeting rooms watching film with you.
Just the little pieces and details you can pick up
from Joe are fantastic and it's been really helpful.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
What about him on the field, He's working with Dewand
a lot as well.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
It's been great.

Speaker 7 (31:32):
You know, it's been fun to see Joe coaching him
and just see the way the Wan's responding. Know, he's
taking the coaching and you can see him working on
stuff and it's been very helpful.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
I assume you're not gonna play on Friday, and make
that decision right now on my own. That said, what
do you like as a veteran who's not playing, What
do you take from the preseason?

Speaker 3 (31:51):
What do you look for standing there on the sideline.

Speaker 7 (31:55):
For me, A lot of times, it's helping those younger guys.
You know, I was in that position at one point,
playing those preseason games, you know, all four and playing
a long time and just trying to give a little
tidbits to help them out, you know, maybe calling the
nerves or just help them with something they might see.
I think just being able to coach and be able
to talk about the plays and different techniques actually helps
me too. You know, I can help these guys and
it just reminds me of the different things and gives

(32:15):
me a new perspective.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
We talked about that with the quarterbacks, like you guys
are taking mental reps as well.

Speaker 7 (32:20):
Yeah, definitely, and mental reps are you know, it sounds
everybody says, you know, mental reps are great and the
same as a competitive rep. And this kind of sounds cliche,
but it really is. Anytime you can see it and
see how everything's processed and see a different angle of it,
it definitely helps you. Hits you a different way.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Jack, looking forward to not seeing you on the field
on Friday. Go back in there and affoid their right.
Thanks man, awesome, thank you, two.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
Time All Pro and playing well Michigan's own Jack Conchlan
and the players spotlight when we come back. Michael Parsons,
is he gonna get paid or get traded? And can
the Bills circle the wagons and the AFC East again
or do the Patriots have something for him? In twenty
twenty five, we preview the AFC and the NFC East.
Next coming up on the Cleveland Browns Preview Show presented

(33:02):
by Tostitos, the official chip and Dip partner of your
Cleveland Browns on the University Hospitals Cleveland Browns Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Welcome back to the Cleveland Browns Preview Show. The Cleveland
Browns Preview Show is presented by Tostitos, the official chip
and Dip partner of the Cleveland Browns. This is the
University Hospitals Cleveland Browns Radio Network.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Brown's and Carolina Panthers doing battle on Friday night, seven pm.
Preseason Game number one. Will be on the air with
you at three pm with Brown's Game Day, Rod Cherry
and myself as we'll take you all the way up
to kick off seven pm at Bank of America Stadium.
Andrew Ciciliano, Nathan Zegura, Garrod Cherry'll be on the signline
for that one in Charlotte, North Carolina. So we usually

(33:47):
go around the leab, but during the preseason we like
to preview the AFC and the NFC and all the
things that are coming up during the season. Already out
of bone to pick with Jarrot already out of bone
to pick with Jirot because I previewed it and I said, hey,
is Michael Parsons is gonna get paid or traded? No reaction.
He's ready to go, He's ready to go to the
next sament. He's thinking about it already. And then I say,
can the Bills circle the wagon in the AFC East again?

(34:10):
Or do the Patriots have some? And Girrod looked at
me like I have lobsters crawling out of my mouth.
It is, Girrod, what has happened to Girrod? Sherry? What
I you know what I'm gonna say it my favorite
Patriot ever, three times super Bowl champ. And now all
of a sudden, the whole world is excited about the
Patriots possibly on their way back, this new exciting young

(34:33):
quarterback Drake May. And all of a Suddenrod just give
me the eye? Going on? I can you gave me
the eye? I go no, Gerard, you're up now. Hey,
you've been in Cleveland a long time. I know you
want what's best for the Browns, but you can't deny
your history. You're a tremendous player. You're a three time
super Bowl champ. I mean my goodness, gracious, what's mister

(34:57):
Kraft gonna say, My friend, you're giving me the a
over the future of the Patriots.

Speaker 5 (35:02):
And Drake may well put this way. You know, I
got nothing but love from our former teammate and now
head coach Mike Vrabel of the New England Patriots. And heck,
he spent some time here traast year and he helped
us out. And heck we saw approval with the offensive
line player didn't reflect in the record, but we know
verbel can coaches, but off that part, we do know.
With that being said, though here comes, here comes, there

(35:22):
ain't no way. And you know what that the New
England Patriots are going to supplant the Buffalo Bills as
the pre eminent team in the AFC East. And yes,
Drake may show some promise last year, but I'm here
to tell you they're trying to recapture the Patriot way.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
But it ain't no.

Speaker 5 (35:40):
Recapture of the Patriots' way. It's just not gonna happen.
So I'm convinced they'll be an okay team because they
have a good head coach and he'll help them. By
the end of the day, it's the Buffalo Bills, and
that's it. Matter of fact, I could jump to question
number four and tell you only one team from the
AFCC East is gonna make it to the playoffs, and
that's the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
That nothing with Tua.

Speaker 5 (36:00):
With the Dolphins, that is a sinking ship as well.
I happened to see Mike McDonald on an interview with
the NFL Network and I was just like, man, he
doesn't look like a happy camp at all. It's just something.
The vibe wasn't right.

Speaker 3 (36:15):
I agree with you, it's they're in a weird spot yet.

Speaker 5 (36:20):
Two in and Tarik talking about we need to rebuild
trust with three weeks of the preseason. You do is
then rebuild trust over the offseason.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
Yeah, that that needs to be done already. I mean
that you saw by their draft. I mean they tried
to get tougher. They they definitely just took it to
heart that they were weak. But I don't know, again,
culture's culture. I don't know if you could change it.
And much was expected of that Dolphins team. And now
Mike McDaniel finds himself under fire down there and kind of,
you know, he was kind of like the media is
darling there. Uh, and Hey, we've known Mike from his

(36:47):
time here in Cleveland. He's an affable young guy. But
at the same he seems like a young guy, but
he's you know, he's a little longer in the tooth
than what we make him out to because he's been
in the game for so long. He was a ball
boy for crying out low but uh yeah, it's what
was thought. Is kind of witty. Has worn a little
bit thin down there, and they need to get going
in the right direction because they've paid two a lot

(37:08):
of money. They're a team that definitely wants to make
the playoffs, and I don't know if they're gonna be
able to make it. I think that the Patriots can
be better. I'm trolling you with that question, I asked,
and you know that. But I think that they still
are a draft away. Drake May has to show for
another year that he could be the next big thing
and then he has to go ahead, and they got

(37:28):
to supplant with another draft and help out as well.
So yeah, I agree with you.

Speaker 5 (37:32):
I agree with That's only one way you control me,
and you know that, and you can't even say it
no more because that's it's defending them now. We all
know who the goat is. We know he's ten times
better than Peyton Manning. That's the only way he emostly
respond to you. Ten times we have crossed that bridge.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
He's better than Peyton Manning ten ten times, ten times
a little much, ten times a little much. I mean
time to Tom Brady is great quarterback, the greatest to
do it, but ten times little much. Now, come on,
all right, we know that Josh Allen is the best
QB in the AFCs. Who do you think is the
second best? Is it? Is it Tua? Is it Drake May?
Is it Justin Fields? With the Jets?

Speaker 4 (38:09):
It's Tua?

Speaker 5 (38:10):
It is Toa and again May has promise and and
Justin hopefully he recovers from his toe injury. But I'm
definitely gonna say Tula right now is that guy. And
hopefully he can stay up right and suffer from the concussions,
because if he does do that, hey, I don't think
the Dolphins have a chance. But I certainly think he's
the best, second best quarterback in the Seast by a

(38:30):
long shot.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Yeah, you know what, I want to disagree with you.
You know, I'm a big Justin Fields guy, but I
think Justin Fields is the quarterback that everybody white likes,
but very few people actually want to start. And I
just don't know if if Justin Fields is going to
be able to carry the Jets through, because you know,
once you become quarterback of the Jets, that's a lot
of pressure on a guy. Drake may I again finished

(38:52):
off the season nice, there's promise there. I'm just not
ready to crown him the next time yet. I don't
know if anybody is gonna do anything like that when
it comes to that. But hey, you know they're looking
for it. They're looking for lightning this straight two for
a long time. If the Packers can go forty years
with great quarterback play, you know, Patriots fans feel entitled
to a forty year run of their own.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
Or they already missed that with the with with mac so.

Speaker 3 (39:14):
Who gets paid first? Is it Terry McLaurin in Washington
or is it Michael Parsons in Dallas? Do either of
them get traded?

Speaker 5 (39:22):
Uh? Neither gets traded, and it will be Parsons. I mean,
Jerry Jones is doing what he does because it's a
form of control and it's also a form of hype
and celebrity that he gets off of it. So it
will be Parsons for sure. McLarin he's in a bas
spot because he's over he's thirty. Yeah, and that's just
again they they're not paying a thirty year old receive
a lot of money unless he's and unfortunately he's been

(39:44):
there a long time. But he's not gonna get the
Mike Evans treatment that they did for Tampa Bay. He's
just not gonna get it. It is.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
So you're so right, and it feels so unfortunate because
you know Mike. You you mentioned Mike. Mike's a Hall
of Famer, Mike Evans a Hack Famer, right, So, I
mean he was a guy who played who played with
Jameis Winston during their successful run. Then on the other
side of that, he played with Tom Brady. Obviously they
win a Super Bowl. He's part of playing with the
current quarterback that they have now, which they are a

(40:10):
playoff team every single year they win that division. Mike Evans,
They've seen a lot of success. I think Terry McLaurin
is arguably the most underrated wide receiver throughout his entire
career in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (40:22):
And the reason why is with the commanders exactly.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
But he ain't got it. He ain't got it like
mc evans got it. Let's be serious about that. And
following Terry mclaurin's career, it's almost where, Hey, you feel
bad in a way because now you're just getting the
recognition that I think he deserves.

Speaker 4 (40:38):
Because you're playing money.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
Yes, you're playing with a combat quarterback in Jayon Daniels,
but now you want the money. I think Michael Parson
is gonna get paid. I agree with you, But Jerry
Jones does Jerry Jones things or whatever. Raason just wants
to run the price up on himself. Who would you
rather have? Would you rather have elite neighbors or Garrett Wilson.

Speaker 5 (40:54):
That's a heck of a question, because I'm.

Speaker 3 (40:57):
Gonna say Garrett Wilson.

Speaker 5 (40:59):
You go to say Garrett Wilson, we can go to the
Ohio State love. I can appreciate that. But neighbors, I
mean he did, so I'm gonna go with him.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
Okay, one game winning drive? Who do you want a
QB Jalen Hurts, Jaden Daniels or Dak Prescott.

Speaker 5 (41:13):
Oh, you gotta go with the guy who's got Super
Bowl Trophy in his in his mammal.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
Real quick, and I mean real quick, is Jalen Hurts
the most disrespected quarterback of the NFL? Yes, I see, now,
we're just agreeing with each other too much. All right,
that's it. That's it for the preview of the AFC
and the Nfsee, so we got the same winners and
we have the same on there. I'm sure we'll fight
again next week, or at least we'll fight next week
because I don't have to troll you every single week.
Coming up next, we'll tell you about the Kevin Stefanski

(41:39):
Show on Thursday night and Browns Panthers Friday Night preseason
game number one. Coming up, It's the Cleveland Browns Preview
Show presented by Tostitos, the official chip and dip partner
of your Cleveland Browns, on the University Hospitals Cleveland Browns
Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
Welcome back to the Cleveland Browns Preview Show. Cleveland Brown's
Preview Show is presented by Tostitos, the official chip and
dip partner of the Cleveland brown This is the University
Hospitals Cleveland Brown's radio network.

Speaker 3 (42:12):
It's the Kevin Stefanski Show. Thursday night, seven pm. Nathan's
gera Girod Cherry. You're gonna be joined by coach Stefanski.
Is the Browns get ready to kick off the preseason
against the Carolina Panthers. Gerard, what are the things that
you might be looking for in this preseason game number
one on Friday night, my friend, Well, first.

Speaker 5 (42:30):
And foremost, Ken, I'm looking to make sure on the
offensive side of the ball that the pre snap pilotes
are not a constant and that we are not jumping
off side, that we're lining up correctly, no illegal procedure
or anything of that note. If we have a minimum
amount of that, that's a success in my mind, because
it's a focal point. It's something that we struggled with
last year and defensively, getting back to a physical brand
of football where we're stripping the ball, we're taking away

(42:51):
the football, and if we can start making moves towards
that on the offensive side of what I just suggested,
with the defense getting the football back in Offens's hands
and the special teams being special and control and field position,
then I'm looking for that to start on Friday.

Speaker 3 (43:03):
Well, I gotta tell you, you scared me like crazy when
you'd mentioned the pre snat penalties, that's something I want
to see them not be committing on Friday. That's probably
the worstyle feel. You know, if you turn the ball over,
you turn the ball over. You got some young kids
out there, what are you going to do? But when
it comes to the pre snap penalties, I want guys
to know what they're doing out there. And yeah, I
know that you're gonna have a lot of first year

(43:24):
guys and a lot of backups playing, but I still
I want it to happen because I think that that
got in a way so much in twenty twenty four
and you don't need to have that happen in twenty
twenty five. You can't let it happen in twenty twenty five.
Friday Night, we Get You Started in the afternoon, three PM,
Brown's Game Day myself at Geron Cherry, Five PM The
Cleveland Browns Kickoff Show with Andy Basket and Tyvus Powell
