I WISO live on a Monday edition of Cleveland Browns Daily.
I am merely Bo. He is the great Z. I
hear you. I heard you say, yeah, I don't hear you. Now,
I hear you. Now, Hey, now give back?
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Hey, give it, hey, microphone guy, let's scream into it.
Give me a good level. Wait a second, or just
keep here we go.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Way to start a Monday, A way to start all right,
just as you're an impartial party.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Here, tell what just happened right there. I don't under attack. Listen,
I love you both.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Give a.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
I don't know that in this one you could blame
him last week if he lates to the start of
the show.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
I was pretty impressed. I had I had very little
confidence that you were going to make it because I
knew you still had to go upstairs and then you
still had to come out, and you were eating with luminaries,
and I was like, I can't interrupt this. I'm going
to give you a five minue warning. I didn't see
you run.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Oh I ran. He huffed it over.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
So that's what what I'm saying is, I wasn't.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Sure I read. I hustled for you.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Give I appreciate that, but you can't get on the
mic and just start yelling.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Well no, he whispered first and said I can't hear him.
I couldn't hear anything in my ear, couldn't hear me.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
And that's what turns.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
I don't know what.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
And then I was yelled at, yelled at. I was besmirched.
What did I miss? What's been going on? Miss a little?
Miss a lot? Dude? Is anything happened since last Wednesday?
Where do you want to start? Yeah, let's do this.
Let's do this one thing real quick.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Though I like it, nobody no show has been harder
on the climate of this state than this show.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Correct.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
We have held feet to the fire on climate for
what has been I think the worst climate year in
Northeast Ohio history, certainly since I've lived in Ohio.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
This has been the worst most rain, followed by the
most humidity in high seat.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
I mean, I got theories about water and I don't
know about steam.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
My electrical bill this month, Oh baby, their conditioning doesn't
come cheap.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Rocket ship. I was like, wait, what come again? The
last few days have been unbelievable, fantastic, no humidity, no perfect.
I mean it's just like a cheat code.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
You gotta call it like you see it. So good job.
Some pool days over the weekend, got a little golf chase,
a small ball around. Good for you. Yeah, it was great, fantastic.
Lukea is now four of the last five nights. Oh
that's new since since we've been together, because it would
have been yeah, for the last five nights, he's going
about eight to six.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Come on, yeah, what a champion is miss k like
aware of how No, not in a billion that is
that age to go eight to six? No straight through? Yeah,
come on yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
And by the way, and then champions champion statue Nanas
does the six anyway, so it's like, oh my gosh,
this is a real night's sleep.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
This is pretty glamorous setup you got over there with
young Lucas life.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I was gonna say, I feel very I'm as rested
as I think I've ever been great. It's it's possible
that I'm more rested because now you know the lovely
miss Kay and like TV off lights out by, like
I can push it to ten thirty, but that's all
she'll give me. And then and she's like, I'm going
to sleep. That's it. That's it. Yeah, well, which is understandable.
(04:28):
She's a serious.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Day of lucatime of lucatime. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, he's
been a champion.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, he's had some he's been on some uh some adventures.
Obviously you saw him Wednesday, who was out here on Wednesday?
And then and we've just been taken around talking to
the grocery store. We had a great shop together, loves it,
loved it, just eyes looking at every and as I
put we did lamb chops. And when I put the
lamb chops in his oh, he's like, what's that. First
(04:58):
food we gave the boys was lamb chops. It's great first,
Like I'm ready for him to like, yeah, started eating.
It was the first over the bottles. By the way,
Yeah you said a little bit, but yes, I got
a little bit. Today.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
We got a lot, had a lot bit, a lot
of bitt Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Everything, and how's how have you been? Obviously have missed
you tremendously. Yeah, I felt missed you should its appropriate? Uh,
Columbus was good, good good town.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
They truly, I mean they're running it's an NFL training camp,
and they profit off of it, and they treat it
the way an NFL team does. And it's weird that
there's nobody else in college football that's doing it that way,
because I feel like a lot of them could.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
Well.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
I heard somebody's running their program like an NFL team,
doing things that nobody had ever heard of before. So
that's surprising that that wasn't happening there either, I will say,
though s s not in attendance. I was shocked it
wasn't exclusive enough for us, said, anybody could have gotten there,
bought their way in there. That's not good enough for us. Oh,
I see, he's got a higher standard. I just did.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Would have thought he would want to be he would
want to see, you know, the two quarterbacks with his
own two.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Weeks he knows, he knows already that is he says,
this is made for TV movie.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
You mean him showing his new ink off to the coach.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Well, he did that, but no, there's no quarterback competition.
That's what he says.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Well, you know, the one thing that you know does
jump out is you think at this level, the amount
of things that have to happen for you to land
on a franchise quarterback, the amount of there's so many
different things that have to happen, and luck and development
and all of it convert and then juxtaposed to what's
(06:43):
down there, which is they have a three person quarterback competition.
One was the number one quarterback in the country. It's
a two person competition from a couple of years ago.
The other one is was the National Gatorade Athlete of
the Year out of out of South Dakota massive athlete.
And then the third one, who's the true freshman, was
the number four player in the country last year. And
(07:04):
so it's like I'm sitting here watching and it was like, oh,
the quarterback, I'm like, you're fine, Yeah, no matter what,
you're fine. And at this at this level, and this
is obviously gets to what I think I probably I mean,
obviously I paid close attention and listen to you guys
and had it was very well locked into what was happening.
But like, there are so many things that go into
doing what we're trying to get done here, and it
(07:26):
is luck and it is prepared in its right place,
right time, and all of those things. And even if
you do all of that, sometimes it doesn't work. But
that's that's the thing that jumps out, is there.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Let me tell you something, if if if the NFL
were set up, whereas basically, if it's a good program,
that helps a lot, but also if you have somebody
who's willing to write the biggest check, oh yeah, to
get the quarterback, we'd have you'd be we'd have we'd
have that guy. We did that, we'd have that guy. Yeah, yeah,
we did.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
You did the best the best attempt at that that
you could do under the circumstances that you're in no doubt.
No college football is it's there is no no, there
is no idea, There is no interest or has there
ever been of everybody to the middle right. College football
is a class system. It's much more like European soccer. Yes,
(08:14):
quite honestly, the same ten teams that are good now,
we're good fifty years ago. Oregon is the one outlier.
Mostly it's all teams that were good fifty.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Years, always had they've had flirtation, they've had periods of
where they were well, when we were kids, they were
god awful.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
So it wasn't until it was Rich Brooks Bollotti and
then Phil Knight said I want to be good at football.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
And that flipped and they were and they are money.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Mitch, that's right, money, the great money, Mitch money, Mitch.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Yeah, yeah, So a great duck.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
Then, as you're we're going to Carolina this week, Yeah,
Schadore with the arm soreness on Saturday, he'll he'll, he'll
be there today, he'll be out there today. What is
your what is our best educated guess of what this
look will look like in Carolina this week?
Speaker 2 (09:05):
I know we'll see Dylan Gabriel. Yeah, beyond that, I
can't see in the game much. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And
I know we'll see Dylan Gabriel, who's struggled, yes of
late significantly. So you know, we don't know yet if
Kenny Pickett'll be cleared for those joint practices at the game.
He's been back for a couple days of practice but
not participating in team drill. So on Saturday with Chador
(09:28):
with the arm soreness. It was every rep was flack
O or Gabriel, Yeah, Gabriel. I believe that they got
twenty two pass attempt reps. I went eleven the day,
four to three for fourteen. And again, those quarterback trackers
and the stats do not tell a story. Doesn't tell
you who he's with, who he's going against, what the
situation is, all of those things. But directionally speaking, fourteen
(09:51):
for thirty six is not going to cut it, regardless
of circumstance. So he's got I think, is a big
week for him. Clearly he is. He is for everything
that happens off the field. He is beloved. Yeah, and
he's doing that as well as can be done. Yeah,
that can only take you so far. You've got to
do it between the white lines. And so we'll see
(10:13):
if there's anything today with shador back. I will see
how much Kenny Pickett's able to do. But you know,
this is a team right now that all of a sudden,
it's getting late early. I know it's only August fourth,
but we're you know, just over a month away. Well
we're five four weeks and six days away from the
season opener. Is that right? That feels right? For me, Yeah,
(10:34):
because it's a Sunday. Yeah, that feels right like it's
maybe you only if it's Flacco. I guess if Flacco
ends up starting week one, you could make that decision
with two weeks ago or a week ago when he's
gonna be ready. Yeah, but with one of the other guys,
I really think they're gonna need, like you want to
have that decision. I think probably locked up before the
Rams game, and that's this week and next week in Philly.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
This is just you and I talk on this and scores.
How could it be anything other than Flacco or pick it.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
I don't believe it.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
But there's no way Gabriel could start. It's just too
far to go too quickly, and it's and he's just
not ready for it. And then pick it with the
injury basically missing a week in camp. It feels from
my vantage point that Joe Flacco is in the catbird
seat here to start week one. I mean, it feels
(11:27):
like Kenny's got to get going a little bit.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
I don't think that. I I think that it's still
if he were to miss all of this week, I
would then I would agree with you. But I think
that they they like him a lot. I think they
think he's done a very good job, and I still
think it is his job to lose. Now not being
able to participate would help you lose that job. That's
where I still see it. You know, Shador really isn't
(11:52):
unless things change rapidly. He's not in the competition to
start week one. It feels like from you got it,
you can't be in a competition to start without a
so and we've talked about it with Chador. What we've
seen out here has been excellent. There are still some
of the habits that they're trying to break, you know,
in terms of drifting or holding a little too long.
(12:13):
Bless you, thank you, but you know, the stuff that
where Dylan excels there, not saying Shure doesn't, but his
learning curve. Dylan started at a much higher point for
everything that's going on in the building, in the meeting
room was all of that stuff than shaudor did, and
so there's catchup that has to be played there. And
again I think people have to understand this was these
are third and fifth round picks. You hope that these
(12:34):
can be an answer, but the reality is when you
draft a quarterback in the third round and the fifth round.
What you're saying is maybe this guy can be a
long term backup, and anything beyond that is absolutely gravy. Yeah,
and that's the reality of where it is. So it's
it'll be a big unless all of a sudden shure
comes out here and it starts getting first team reps.
I from what I've seen, again, we're not privy to
(12:55):
those things. Yeah, I think he's earned an opportunity to
have some first team reps. I mean, that's what I think.
That has not yet happened. So we'll see how that
plays out. But right now, this is a team that
appears to be getting Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, or Dylan
Gabriel ready to play week one. I think I don't
think it can be Dylan Gabriel. No, I think he's
(13:18):
a fire hose of it right now. Sure things could change,
but that's also just a brutal start to your career
the way that that schedule lines up.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
So the other thing that's going to be a part
of this for Kevin is and you hear you know,
guys say this all the time at all the levels.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
You can't fool the room. No, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
And so, like Joe's approval rating in the room is
one hundred percent and so and and Kenny's is high too.
We just haven't seen him in a week, so like
there's that part of it too. Yeah, Yeah, like Kenny,
if Joe's inched ahead just because of availability the way
that it's gone here the last week, and you get
(13:56):
Kenny back and then he can catch up in a hurry,
But then he also has to preduce in these joint
practices provide he's willing to do it. He needs to
produce at the level that Flaco does if they produce
at an equal level and they're both healthy, and then
you go with pick it because he's younger and there's
a potentially a shot, Like I get that, but he's
got to get back to that level of even.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Yes, and that's gonna be tough. I think he can
quickly do it. He's just you's gotta Yeah, I think
that what it's got to be now because still the
things that we talked about as overarching principles for this
season still apply. Yeah, he's still a former first round
pick on his rookie deal that has the potential to
(14:37):
be something more than just this year's quarterback. Yeah, so
that's going to give him an all things being equal,
he'll get the shot. All things end up not being equal,
that's then it will be Joe Placo. But that's that's
kind of where it is. Blaco's thrown some beautiful balls
so far in this camp. I mean, he's Joe Flacco. Yeah,
you know what, I think you know what you're going
(14:58):
to get, and I think you know what that means
on every side of the ledger. Absolutely, yeah, yeah, you
know all of it.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
I mean, it's it's also I mean it's been it's
been a while since he started. I mean, when's the
last time he started ten games Joe, Yeah, so that
teens like it's been a.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
While two thousand and I want to say, twenty seventeen.
So that's kind of the thing that with Joe Flacco,
that is kind of an interesting if you really go
and kind of look at all the facts and all
the factors with his career evolution. So the last time
that Joe Flacco started ten games in a season was
twenty and seventeen. He went nine and seven that year.
(15:39):
In twenty eighteen with the Ravens at the age of
thirty three, started nine games, went four and five. The
following year, he was the starter in Denver for eight games,
he went two and six. The following year at the Jets,
he started four games, he went oh to four, and
twenty twenty and twenty twenty one he started with the
Jets one game went ohen one. In twenty twenty two,
(16:01):
with the Jets he went one in three, his lone
win being the miracle comeback against US unfortunately for US.
He went four and one with the Browns in twenty
twenty three and in twenty twenty fourth Indianapolis Colts, who
went two and four and six games as a starter. So,
if you're to look at his post post Baltimore career
in some in some he is nine and nineteen is
(16:26):
a starter.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
If you look at his post Baltimore career without the Browns,
he is five and eighteen starter. Yeah, So I think
that they are. The notion necessarily that he gives you
the best chance to win is kind of a double
edged sword. The historical proof would say no. But we
(16:50):
also saw in Cleveland that four and one where he
throws for three hundred yards every game. He throws thirteen
touchdowns in five games and you saw this offense come
to life, and so that is obviously exciting and you
know that that's there. Kenny Pickett has been a much
more successful quarterback in terms of wins and losses, but
has been very different in terms of the production and
(17:10):
the way that those wins have come. Now something is
flipped for him in the fourth quarter where he's been
in an excellent quarterback and yes, the seven game winning drives,
but that's the thing. And then you got these two rookies.
So this is I just got to think there are
two things that are getting late early. Number one is
that decision at that position, because you want to have
that decision at that position sooner rather than later. The
(17:34):
other thing is quin Shawn Judkins, who is supposed to
be when drafted obviously a huge and that is not
oversaying a huge part of what the Browns were going
to do this year offensively, that obviously because of the
off field transgressions is we don't know where that's going now.
(17:55):
We heard last week it was Jimmy Haslam who said that,
you know, cautiously optimistic that he'll be here signed and
get in. You need that to happen sooner rather than
later for him to be ready to go. This is
a rookie. This is not Joe Flacco. No, this is
a rookie who has gone through again serious, serious allegations
(18:15):
have been levied against him that are, you know, not acceptable,
and you've got to see how that, ultimately, I guess
all plays out. But it's getting laid early on that
side of things in terms of his ability to be
you know, what you thought he was going to be.
And so when you think about what this offense was
gonna be, right, he was the anchor of that. Yeah,
(18:36):
and then the quarterback was going to play off of that.
We're gonna play great defense, we're gonna run the ball
with Quinn John and you saw Jerome Ford and Dylan
Sampson or Strong. But that was going to be the
core of who we were on offense. And the quarterback's
job was really more than anything, is to hit some
shots when they're available off of the play action, take
care of the football, and steward this offense so that
(18:56):
we can win games based on our defense, not beating
our ourselves and then hopefully you know, hitting some plays here,
running the football and being a good special teams unit.
That's that's the formula. And so right now two pieces
of that formula, which are both on the offensive side,
are our question marks because Judkinson's been missing it now
Kenny Pickett has been missing.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Right, and two elevens of what you thought was going
to be that defense are gone. In Hicks elevens, you
go back to j Okay. Yeah, so yeah, this it's
not been great. No, it has not been great. First
couple weeks, first weeks of camp, it's this is this
has not been great. So uh need to have a
good week and then you'll see where you are this
week down in Charlotte, because I do think that that's
(19:39):
a team that's on the ascent a little bit. They
get a lot of young, nice players that you can
sign yourself up for there. The next will be a
totally different animal against Philly. But but like we'll see
what it looks like against Carolina this week.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
This is a team though that like you it. Maybe
you're able to go in there right and deliver a
knockout blow and you're the dominant team. As we saw
quit on the first day with Minnesota last year, we
were by far the better team. That was the second
day they came back and they kicked our butts and
they went on to have a phenomenal season. But theirs
was a season that when they came here, you know
(20:16):
they had just found out right, JJ McCarthy was that
that day. And then all of a sudden, now it's
Sam Darnold who goes on to have a year that
nobody thought. Nobody thought when we were here, Sam Darnold
could do that. So part of it in the back
of the Browns is, you know, nobody thinks Kenny Pickett
maybe Kenny Pickett camp, but yeah, you want to go
out there and I think you want to have a
very good showing against them. Philadelphia will be like, Okay,
(20:37):
are we better than we think we are?
Speaker 5 (20:39):
You know?
Speaker 2 (20:39):
And if you could come out there and just you
really give them a good look, their roster is better
than our roster, the defending Super Bowl Chief. Yeah, it's
the best roster in football. But can we go out
there and can we can we hang with them? And
that I think We'll tell us left. But this one
in Carolina, I'm with you. I think that's an ascending team.
I think if you were to ask most national pundits
right now, they would say that Caroline is going to
have a better season than the Cleveland Browns. Yeah that
(21:01):
the Cleon Browns are so you know, Bryce Young playing well.
They get McMillan, they can run the ball effectively, chew A.
Hubbard at a nice season last year. They still have
Adam Thielen, they got Legit who was their first round pick.
They got a couple of good tight ends that are athletic.
They've got a good defense. JC Horn is one of
the better corners in the league. So this is a
this is this will be a good a good matchup.
(21:22):
And the only I think we're gonna see their starters,
and I'm curious if we'll get more insight from Kevin's
fancy this goes along. But he is not gonna base
his plan based on their plant Like he's like to say, oh,
you're a play starters, Will that I'm gonna match you? Yeah,
unless he wants to. And I Mike says, even if
we do quote unquote play starters, it's gonna be a
subset of.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
Starters twenty one, no, seventy five, No, you know yeah,
I mean like none of those guys. You just we
we have gotten way, we got we got really thin
in a lot of spots and we can't risk anything.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
No, and we're what's become apparent throughout this camp is
and everybody. It's true of everybody in the NFL. So
it's not just a Browns issue. But we're really thinnick
at left tackle, right tackle, depth, tackle depth, real thin there.
We're pretty darn thin in terms of what would be
considered top flight talent. At the wide receiver position. We're
(22:17):
very thin without Judkins here, at running back. We are
now very thin at cornerback. We are thin at linebacker.
So some of those you expected, some of those you
did not expect. But that's kind of the reality of
where this thing is. And you know, we can go
(22:37):
through it at some point today as we kind of
get ready for this is our first game week. But
where this roster kind of stands and what it looks like,
you know, there are only so many jobs that I
even think are open, and there are only so many
kind of roster permutations that can allow people to win
those jobs, because it's all it's a numbers game.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
It's a numbers game. Yeah, the Shador side of things,
we mentioned this. He had the arm soortus on Saturday.
He'll be back full go today. Today's a padded practice.
See the guys with the pads out here and they're
ready to go. To give you an idea of what
the rest of the week looks like, there's gonna be
workout meetings tomorrow, and then tomorrow afternoon, I'm guessing you
(23:19):
guys will fly to Charlotte.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Then joint practice.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Is Wednesday down there with the Panthers on Wednesday morning,
and then Thursday you'll do the walk through and then
Friday you will play the game. So that's kind of
the business of the week. To Z's point, it is
a game week now, and these preseason games for all
of the things that we are talking about in terms
of how quickly some of these spots have gotten thin
on this roster, these preseason games are going to be
(23:45):
critical and I think wildly entertaining at the quarterback spot.
I hope you and I talked about it. I would
love to just see Dylan and Shadoor do it all.
Like you know, I'm sure Kenny wants to play, but
like if you want him to play week one, how
important is it for him to play against Carolina on
a Friday. But I want to see Dylan and chadur
play like, let's see what where we're at with those
(24:06):
two guys. And then at the bottom you mentioned the
receiver room and how thin that got in terms of
top flight talent. Can some of these guys who have
been camp darlings make plays in those in those scrimmages,
in those joint practices, and then even more even on
a bigger stage for all you to see.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Can they do it on a Friday night? The guys
you really want to see, you know, Gauge Larvadan and
Luke Florida. Can they continue what they've shown here when
we take this on the road, when we play real
football games. That's what people are gonna want to see.
Can Jamari Thrash, who's had a nice camp, can he
continue that progress that we've seen. Deontay Johnson has been
quite frankly, easily one of the best receivers in this camp.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Easily?
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Yeah? Does that continue? Because if so, you know, I
think he's your pencilman easier two yeah, two three? He
and center Tillman. You know, you know you have your
your top three right there. Al with Jerry Judy. The
Browns obviously know that the tackle his position has been
an issue, they claimed Friday after the show. They claimed
(25:09):
Sebastian Goodierras from Waivers from San Francisco six five three
eight officially in his first NFL season out of me
not state, not state. It's in North Dakota.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Yeah, it's n C mining the NAI not state, not state,
North Dakota.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Yeah. Last year saw actually one game with the Niners.
Spent time on the Browns practice squad.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
How about this, I'm pretty sure that guy took the
red eye after we claimed him and practiced. They literally
walked him right out onto the field Saturday in the
middle of practice and we're like, all right, you're with
the line.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
Go wow.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
The Browns, by the way, also claimed this morning. Killian Zire,
who is six seven three twelve in his second NFL
season out of AUB Originally signed by Houston's an undrafted
free agent, spent last season on the Texas practice squad
as part of the International Player Pathway program. A native
of Munich, Germy, so the Hoff maybe they've they crossed
paths over there in Munich when the hof was there.
I feel like they would have, right. Yeah, speaking of
(26:07):
the hof Is, certainly he's in the he's in the building.
But so the Browns now have ten tackles here, wow,
if I have that right, and.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
I believe, well, yeah, that they're not happy that tackles
are beyond that though. The other thing that's in this
we you and I talked about this after the draft.
We didn't draft a wide receiver or a tack or
a tackle, and those are if before the draft I
would have thought, yeah, you're gonna you could take a
tackle in the second. You thought maybe take a tackle
(26:38):
in the second is if you know, like does a
is a wide receiver in the second?
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Does that make sense? And we didn't address any either
of that.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
And you know, the graand pick you get because you know,
he was viewed as one of the four best players
in this draft, regardless of position, and they loved him.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
So that's cool.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
But then and we love Sweessinger now, but you know
Swessinger has picked thirty three. Then Judkins is thirty six,
and so you didn't take a tackle, you did not
take a wide receiver. And those spots are very thin.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
They are, and that's what's really kind of unfortunate about
this situation. And you know it's I mean, when we
were doing all those draft shows, it was like, let's
use our first five picks all on offense. Right here
it is, and now you did you but after you
went five straight on offense, after you went the two
on defense. And it turns out, Listen, Carson Sweeshner has
(27:25):
been a start of this camp. Harold Fan's been a
start of this camp. These rookies are going to play
significant roles and they're gonna have to that's just the
bottom line. They are going to have.
Speaker 5 (27:34):
To do that.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
It's a it's a tough Yeah, that's where you why
you wend up thin Now, if you view it through
the prism as I think that many talk to people
around here, are that we're going to play a lot
of toll personnel that they think Harold Fannon can count
kind of both. It can be he can be a
big slot receiver for you and he also is a tackle.
Then you know, that's a better situation. We see Kenny
(27:58):
Pickett coming out here right now and he is in
full pads. He looks ready to go. Hopefully he's ready
to go. That would certainly be a good thing for
the Cleveland Browns. But yeah, that's kind of where you
end up. You can't do everything in one draft, which
we know, we're well aware of that, but this was
one where you thought, maybe those are positions that would
(28:19):
be addressed. And obviously if you stayed there and you
took Travis Hunter, that addresses one of those positions very well. Ultimately,
it's Mason Graham plus a first and a second that
was quinch On Judkins. Yeah, we'll see how that plays up.
But Mason Graham has been excellent so far. There's been
no questioning on that. It's just, yeah, you end up
a little bit unfortunately thin at some spots, and some
(28:41):
things have happened that have made it, you know, added
to it. I think since we since we last were
on the air as well, did did I read did
Amari retire? Did I read that? Or is that was
that fake news?
Speaker 3 (28:53):
That was fake news?
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Fake? Yes?
Speaker 3 (28:55):
I saw that.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Ye, it's so hard. He's not on a team, so no,
that means you're retired. But yeah, it's it's there are
receivers out there. I know Keenan Allen is having I
don't know if he signed or not, but I know
he was going to meet with the Chargers, his former team,
and there was mutual interest about a reunion.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
There there's still Yeah, I'm trying to get this to
pull up and just see who's out there at wide receiver.
If he wanted to bring somebody out, a Maury would be.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
I think we're gonna play so much twelve that they
really like Cedric Tillman. Thrash has taking a step. Deontay
Johnson is a very serviceable veteran who you know last
we saw him. That'll be interesting for him too. Write
he's returning to Carolina. That's the team that he last
played with was the Carolina Panthers, and he was their
leading receiver when that relationship fracture the point that he
(29:45):
wanted out of there. There's not a ton out there.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
He's Darden and Schwartz down there. But it's now you
mentioned Keenan at the top, and then Amari thirty one,
Gabe Davis just twenty six.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
He struggled so much to Jackson build it.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
He's at you a deep threat. Yeah, Nelson Agalore in
his thirties, Boyds is thirty.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Boyd's like kind of a slot receiver. Sure, Nelson Aglor
can still stretch the field and gave Davis considered.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
I wouldn't mind his swing on Gabe Davis at twenty six,
Go run some nine routes, buddy.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Yeah, he could do that. He isn't he can do that.
I know it was bad last year in Jacksonville obviously. Yeah,
twenty catches two hundred and thirty nine yards. Yeah, he
is not signed and they have to wonder. Well, here's
coach cuts fancy, maybe some insights on on the quarterbacks
and the plan for this week in Carolina.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
He's from our fans, these young kids that are out here.
It's been a really special few days out here, so
that's a I want to acknowledge our fans first and foremost.
Injury front, Miles will be back out here today. He's
feeling good. Dylan Gabriel's dealing with a little bit of
tightness in his hamstring, so he'll be limited a bit
and then Shador he's good. You know, I was sore
(30:55):
in his in his arm and his thrown shoulder, but
getting treatment and he should be fine. Also, you're gonna
see we have a celebrity guest out here today coaching,
a guy named Joe Thomas will be helping out with
the offensive line. So anytime Joe's around and and we
can mind him for everything he's worth worth.
Speaker 5 (31:12):
We're gonna do that.
Speaker 6 (31:13):
So he's back in the old line meeting rooms getting
his football fixed and we're happy to have him. But
with that, I'll take any questions. So he will, he'll
be limited, he'll be in some drills, not yet ready
to go.
Speaker 7 (31:28):
So, Kevin, have you made any final decision and ready
to announce what like kind of what the rotation may
be for joint practices.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
In the in Carolina game.
Speaker 6 (31:37):
Yeah, I'd say working through it. We'll hold some guys
out of the game. Uh, but we're looking forward to
the game.
Speaker 8 (31:43):
You know.
Speaker 6 (31:43):
That's a that's a fun part for our players, Uh
to get down there and compete against the Panthers on Wednesday,
compete against them Friday night.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
But we will hold some guys out.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Could you give some details on the format for Wednesday?
Speaker 6 (31:56):
Be very similar to joint practices that you've seen before, Tony.
We'll we'll do a couple of different special teams periods
to make sure we hit all four phases. We'll have
a seven on seven, a couple seven on sevens, we'll
have team. So it's it's you know, again first time
that we've done it in week one, so we won't
do a two minute per se, which we'll do the
following week in Philadelphia.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
We're working through those type of things.
Speaker 6 (32:19):
How what do you guys look forward to in the
joint practice and the first preseason again, what are you
looking to accomplish? Well, I think the fun part for
us as as competitors is you get to go against
somebody else and we have a ton of respect for
a coach Canalis and and the Panthers, so we're looking
forward to getting a really good day's work with them
on Wednesday, and then the game is really a fun
(32:41):
for our organization.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
It's fun for our guys.
Speaker 6 (32:43):
They finally get to be out there and they're keeping
score and we get to put guys in different positions
when it comes to situational ball and those type of things.
So that first preseason game is there's a lot of jitters,
as there always is for the young men, but we'll
talk to them about that, but great opportunity just to compete.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Besides, hope is all quarterbacks expected to get some playing
the time in the first pre season game.
Speaker 5 (33:05):
We'll work through that in the next couple of days.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
How far to get dealt back with day but it
just did. As far as scripting to practice how we
outset him.
Speaker 5 (33:14):
So far, it's been great.
Speaker 6 (33:15):
What you do typically is obviously Dave and I talked
way back when about this and and he's been a
gracious host and getting this thing organized for us. And
then I'll have the We have had our coordinators on
the horn with their coordinators just to get organized in
terms of what both sides need to see.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Was it any kind of a relief that Chaudor's arm
there is nothing serious and the fact that he self
reported when he's in the middle of a heated competition,
what did you.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Think of that for a rookie during Well, I think
he was just sure honest America. And I think obviously
he'll look at his process making sure that his arm's
ready to go, but it's nothing more than that he's
getting treatment.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
He'll be good to go, and then try to just script.
Speaker 9 (33:54):
Piling up on your quarterbacks, Kenny the hamstring now dealing
with over the hamstring, chared with did you necessarily.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
You have a sen your BINGO card?
Speaker 5 (34:02):
No? I didn't.
Speaker 6 (34:03):
It's uh, hey, every day you're you learn something new,
so uh, all those guys that listen, they're all working hard,
but it's all part of it.
Speaker 5 (34:14):
The first people.
Speaker 6 (34:16):
Again, we'll just you guys will see how we plan
practice and uh, all these guys, which I'm appreciative of,
are are pushing the to do the best that they
can and then whatever it is.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
And and I say that.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
Because we just had a really good walkthrough in there
with the guys putting some two minutes in so they
handled that really well, so I expect them, expect them
to handle this as well.
Speaker 5 (34:38):
But one of the.
Speaker 6 (34:39):
Other young wine baggers are popping.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
Out to you.
Speaker 6 (34:44):
Yeah, it's it's interesting, Jeff, because there's young guys, but
then there's some guys. There's veterans with some good experience
that I think are also uh acquitting themselves really nicely.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
So, uh, it's a really good group.
Speaker 6 (34:54):
Coach Tarbor, as you know, does an awesome job with
those guys. Uh, they're in the nerve center of our
defense and getting us lined up, making calls and that
type of thing.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
So I've been really pleased with the entire.
Speaker 6 (35:05):
But you start naming them, I'll say, yes, sorry, I
don't have the depth chart from it mention it. Maybe
it was a stop and stark nature of practice at
the arm you've led to the sore and can you
guys do anything for that or is that just up
to him to kind of stay loose at all.
Speaker 5 (35:21):
Yeah, we've talked about it. He'll do a great job.
He'll stay loose.
Speaker 6 (35:24):
Uh, that's part of that gig, you know, part of
it for all quarterbacks is just keeping your arm loose
and he'll he'll do a good job.
Speaker 7 (35:32):
Is that part of adjusting to you know, from college
to pros there's something maybe that you know, the timetable
and everything for a rookie to have.
Speaker 6 (35:39):
I think there's so many adjustments that these guys are
tackling every single day. And yeah, of course getting your
body ready, knowing what your body needs. Uh, you know,
we have a lot of these practices in a row,
so you have to be smart about making sure you're ready.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
To roll.
Speaker 10 (35:55):
Something more a specific player.
Speaker 6 (35:59):
No, this was on Saturday, So happened on Saturday, and
he's getting treatment on it and you'll see he'll be
out here just.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
A little bit of tightness. I guess when it comes
to evaluation and these joint practice is first three season
set more value.
Speaker 6 (36:14):
Like the joint practices happens the most you know, it's
a good question, Dan. I feel like there's value in
everything in what we're seeing from the guys that we
value their their how they do in the meeting room,
We value how they are in the walkthrough.
Speaker 5 (36:28):
Like I mentioned earlier, we value all these practice reps.
Speaker 6 (36:31):
Of course, when you're going up against another team and
it's a setting where maybe you don't know exactly what
the defense is gonna do or the offense is gonna do.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
I think there's certainly value created in that.
Speaker 6 (36:42):
And then in the preseason games, like I mentioned before,
they're keeping score, so the competitive part of our sport
kicks in, and you want to obviously do well in
those venues as well.
Speaker 9 (36:53):
When you know you and the staff were talking a
lot about the processes and being really happy with what
you're seeing in that regard. So like, at what point
during campus, at these joint practices, is it, you know,
when the preseason is winding down, when do you focus
on results over the processes?
Speaker 6 (37:12):
Well, I mean, ultimately, this is a results business. That
this game is about results. We know that, But I
think you're doing yourself a disservice if you're not hyper
focused on your process as a player, as a coach,
whether you have success in a given play or not,
are you learning from that play? I mean that's that
(37:33):
all speaks to the process that allows you to play
well on Sundays.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
I mean, that's that's the ultimate goal. But we're pretty.
Speaker 6 (37:40):
Process driven, and that another way of saying that is
we take practice very seriously. We take the work we
do in the building very seriously, and that all adds
up to putting yourself in position to play good football.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
Can kind of injuries are part.
Speaker 11 (37:53):
Of it, and I know that it's another quarterback to summer,
a minor tweak here and there, But how which does
that hurt? Maybe you're processing of developing into the plan,
if at all it is it frustrating.
Speaker 6 (38:06):
No, injuries are a part of this game that they're
frustrating from the standpoint of when you lose a guy
for a good amount of time.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
You feel that's tough on the players.
Speaker 6 (38:15):
But the dealing with injuries, adjusting his injuries, that's just
part of the game.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
So why did you schedule the first week joint practice this.
Speaker 6 (38:23):
Year as opposed to Yeah, I think every year, Tony,
just looking at our steal that word again, process, what
we can do better? What other teams are doing. Uh,
is there an opportunity to do something? So I can
you know, I'll talk while I'm down there. But my
relationship with coach Canalis, well, you know, our relationship among
the staff, like the scheme that they run on both
(38:46):
sides of the ball will be good for our team.
So there's a lot of positives to going down there.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Top dove tailing off what Dan ast earlier in the
way preseason.
Speaker 5 (38:57):
Is a vot Are the joint workouts more benefit? Did
the dot wins?
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Where the games are more beneficial for the rookies and
what they can.
Speaker 5 (39:04):
Do in the fly and everything?
Speaker 6 (39:06):
I'd say in some ways, yes, the preseason games you know,
are are great because they're they're opportunities in a controlled
environment for your players. Now, there's some teams that don't
play their starters at all in the preseason and that's
what they think is best for their team in that
given moment. And think about you know, quarterbacks that play
(39:28):
in the preseason. You're you're obviously not wearing a red jersey,
so you're free game in those situations whereas you're not
in practice and or a joint practice with another team.
So I think those are all things that we weigh
as coaches trying to figure out what our team needs
for for a given season, for a given week.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
So when you say you will.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
Hold those some guys for the game that needs some guys,
will put any regulars?
Speaker 5 (39:51):
Yes? Put.
Speaker 7 (39:53):
Bloom was talking about Potonio last week, saying you chucked
a lot of boxers for the future.
Speaker 5 (39:57):
Hall of Fame again to see what would you.
Speaker 10 (39:59):
Say about what makes Jordan kind of player?
Speaker 3 (40:03):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (40:03):
Yeah, I think Joel's a Hall of Famer. I've been
blessed to be around Hall of famers and he fits
the mold. He's done it at an extremely high level for.
Speaker 5 (40:13):
A really long time.
Speaker 6 (40:14):
I think if you talk to players, I think players
are great judges of talent. I think if you talk
to players around this league and they know what Joel's about,
now that's the player. The person off the field is
a Hall of Fame person. And I rely heavily on
Joel really almost every day for his input and his
thoughts on where we are as a team, what we
need to be doing, what, you know, just getting a
(40:36):
feel for him and his teammates. He's an incredible ambassador
for his team. If you will and uh, you know,
but yeah, I can't say enough good things about him.
Speaker 5 (40:47):
Having something he wanted to do something that.
Speaker 6 (40:51):
Yeah, I think Joe knows what We'll take him as
much as we can get him. And I think he
was gonna be in town working this week, so he
traded in whatever he's doing for grab the whistle for
the week and see if he can you know, any
little help. Anything that Joe can do in the meeting
room's helps. I think anything Joe does out here on
the practice field helps. When you're talking about a Hall
(41:12):
of Famer. Uh, he's still working through it. Yeah, but
again better And Dylan was talking about the ups and
downs of the natural any trading camp, but publy especially
for what you how have you seen him kind of
handle those tools?
Speaker 5 (41:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (41:25):
I think all these rookies, like you mentioned Scott and
certainly quarterbacks, there's there's plays that are set up for
you and you let it rip and it's there. There's
times that things aren't there, and and I think the
big thing is learning from every single one of those reps.
Speaker 5 (41:39):
Like I can think of certain reps where you.
Speaker 6 (41:42):
Gotta move in the pocket and then you gotta run
out of the pocket. You gotta go scramble and and
get as much as we can get and get down
and protect yourself.
Speaker 5 (41:47):
That's real football.
Speaker 6 (41:49):
So we're trying as hard as we can to mimic
that in these settings and and know that you're gonna
have some plays that you want back, but the bottom
eyes you have to learn from those plays.
Speaker 5 (41:58):
I think he's doing that.
Speaker 11 (41:59):
With tweaks to some of the other guys. Do you
think you might have to play.
Speaker 12 (42:02):
Joe Flaco in the game.
Speaker 6 (42:04):
I'll wait to discuss those type of things later, Mary kay,
but uh, those Joe's ready to go if we need them.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
Good. Okay, thank you guys. I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
All Right there you go, coach Tefanski from the podium
before we take this time out. Obviously, the major development
here is that in today's practice, which is a padded practice,
you will have two available quarterbacks for the team drills,
and those quarterbacks with Joe Flack when should were Sanders.
Speaker 2 (42:32):
Yeah, and if you know a lot of people want
to see Shudre Sanders get an opportunity to be with
the first team, you would have to think that today
that opportunity will come in and for shird Door Sanders.
If it does, then you need to make the most
of them to get more of them. And if it
does not come today under these auspices, yeah, he is
(42:52):
not in the quarterback competition. Yeah, I don't start for
right now.
Speaker 5 (42:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (42:57):
Right to this point he hasn't been. But these injuries
maybe maybe force it.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
We'll see.
Speaker 4 (43:01):
By the way, that was Coach from the Podium presented

industry leader in roll Form Steel Manufacturing America builds with
Gregory and now here is our buddy Andrew Siciliana one
on one with Denzel Award.
Speaker 10 (44:00):
Another day trying to camp in the books.
Speaker 12 (44:02):
Another day Denzel Award of like live tackling, you guys.
Speaker 10 (44:06):
Were like twenty minutes live half a game, but like today,
how'd that feel?
Speaker 5 (44:12):
Now?
Speaker 10 (44:12):
It felt good.
Speaker 13 (44:13):
I think it's great for the team, is getting us
all prepared for the season and just getting those live reps.
So I've been enjoying it. It's been a great work
out there, so I like it.
Speaker 12 (44:23):
Just to put into context here, Kevin Stefanski, Year six,
you guys have never gone live until a couple of
days ago and now twice in three days, but this
one was a lot longer than day one. What do
you I mean is how badly do you think the
team needed that?
Speaker 10 (44:39):
And how much do you think it helps?
Speaker 3 (44:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (44:43):
I think badly. I mean I think it helps tremendously.
I mean we're not trying to have a repeat of
last year, you know, then come out with the season
that we wanted, and we're doing something about it this year.
And so you know, we're putting that work in with
live reps and getting ready for the season.
Speaker 10 (44:57):
I think it's gonna pay off.
Speaker 12 (44:58):
At the same time, I'm sure you guys are are
more than excited, more than eager, more than ready to
go to Carolina next week and face somebody else.
Speaker 13 (45:07):
Yeah, yeah, no, definitely, definitely just getting a different look
from different guys, different receivers, and so you know, it's
been fun going against these guys and get great work
with Judy and a lot of those guys. But just
being able to get a different look from other guys
and a different team I think will be good for us.
Speaker 12 (45:22):
And one day's perfect for joint practice. I know Philadelphia
in a couple of weeks's gonna be two. But on
day two you and I know that's usually when the
fights happen. So does one day feel right in Carolina?
Speaker 3 (45:33):
Yeah, I think one day will be fine.
Speaker 13 (45:34):
You know, we'll get great work in, get our one
on ones and great repsent, so I think one day.
Speaker 10 (45:38):
Will be good.
Speaker 12 (45:39):
So yesterday, Dave Canallis, the head coach of the Carolina Panthers,
said that he's gonna play Brice you a little bit
in that preseason game, is gonna play some of the
starters a little bit?
Speaker 10 (45:47):
Kevin said he.
Speaker 12 (45:48):
Kind of knows what he's gonna do, but he hasn't
necessarily told you guys yet. Hence he's not gonna tell
the media yet. Overall philosophically, and there's no wrong answer. Yeah,
does Denzel Ward want to play in the preseason?
Speaker 13 (46:01):
For me personally, I don't feel that I necessarily need
to play in the preseason. You know, I'm gonna be
ready to come Week one, But ultimately that's the head
coach's decision, and whatever he decides to do, you know,
I'm gonna roll with it. With that, I'll be ready
to go for the season regardless.
Speaker 12 (46:16):
Let's talk about the work you're getting in here. What's
it like every day? Because I've been enjoying the battles.
I know everyone else the fans here have been enjoying
the battles, enjoying the battles between you and Jerry Judy.
How does our iron sharpened iron with you two man?
Speaker 13 (46:29):
Just that it's just two great guys that don't want
to lose, and we're coming out here competing every day,
just trying to get each other better. I win some reps.
He wins some reps. You know, I win a couple
more reps than he wins. But we're just out here
just trying to get each other better. That's the biggest thing.
Speaker 12 (46:42):
You also had another one out here as well today
getting a hand in Cedric inside the fifteen.
Speaker 10 (46:49):
Tell me about that one.
Speaker 13 (46:50):
Oh yeah, we're in zone coverage and I just seen
him on the inside of me and the quarterbacks and
tensions going there and was able to get a good
jump on it and make a play.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
On the ball.
Speaker 10 (47:00):
Talk to m j Emerson, Yes, how's he doing. He's
doing good. He's in good spirits.
Speaker 13 (47:04):
You know, he's gonna attack this injury that he had,
and I'm sure he's gonna get back and get well.
Speaker 12 (47:09):
I was over there when it happened, and just me
speaking here as a human being now a member of
the media, it was heartbreaking because you know how hard
that he has worked.
Speaker 10 (47:18):
At the same time, it's next man up.
Speaker 12 (47:20):
Like both are true, Like you feel for him so much,
Yet you guys have to power forward. How do you,
as a human being, as a football player, as a friend,
as a brother deal with that?
Speaker 13 (47:32):
Yeah, that's a bit, Like you said, that's the biggest thing,
that's my brother, and just seeing how much work he
put in during the off season and just his mentality
going into the season like he wanted to be the
best and he's going to be the best, and just
to see him go down, it was just tough to see.
But like you said, his next man that mentality and
is gon give other guys a lot of great opportunities
to be starters and to get out there and get
some players out there.
Speaker 12 (47:52):
What does leadership mean to you, Denzel Ward? Because I
know that's very very important for you.
Speaker 13 (48:00):
Just my presence out here on the practice field, the
way I'm competing, the way I show up every day,
and my mindset, my energy that I'm giving to everybody,
Just trying to be that role model that guys to
come talk to and just look at the see how
to do things right.
Speaker 10 (48:14):
How much pride you taking that? Oh, take a lot
of pride in it? Was there a lot defensively big
picture here.
Speaker 12 (48:21):
What do you say to the people that say, hey,
I know a couple of years ago you guys were
number one. I don't know that you can get back there, Denzil.
How does this team put last year in the rear
view mirror.
Speaker 10 (48:34):
Every year is different.
Speaker 12 (48:34):
I realize that, But how does this team get back
to the level we saw in twenty twenty three?
Speaker 13 (48:39):
Yeah, I think just like you said, we got more
live practices and that's how we go get there. Just
working hard every day and just keeping that goal in mind,
like that's where we're trying to get to. Me trying
to get to that number one spot and be the
best defense to help our offense and special teams.
Speaker 12 (48:51):
A couple of days on the podium, you said that
you are excited to see Mason Graham.
Speaker 10 (48:58):
Tell me what you've seen.
Speaker 13 (48:59):
Man, His body looks a lot better. You know, he
looks slimmed down, so he's been he's been working.
Speaker 14 (49:04):
Man.
Speaker 13 (49:04):
He's looking fast out there, looking explosive on that D line.
So I'll continue to look forward to see him out there.
Speaker 12 (49:10):
Have you come to grips yet with the how quiet
and unassuming he is off the field and how he
turns it on.
Speaker 10 (49:16):
He's like a different guy.
Speaker 13 (49:17):
Oh, you just got talked to him. Man, he'd be
talking and I got a lot of energy to him.
So he just got talked to him. But no, he's
gonna be a great player for about forty nine. Oh yeah, No,
I'm liking him a lot. I seem like, ye, I'm
liking him a lot. He's making plays every day out
here in practice, and he's getting to.
Speaker 10 (49:31):
Dude, can fly.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
He can.
Speaker 12 (49:33):
When you're playing that fast as a rookie, What does
that tell you that he's one prepared mentally?
Speaker 13 (49:39):
You know, he studies playbook and he just has a
great feel for the game and you're seeing that out here.
Speaker 12 (49:43):
All right, Denzel, I'll close with the obligatory quarterback question.
Speaker 10 (49:46):
Knowing you're just number twenty one on the.
Speaker 12 (49:48):
Other side of the ball, I get that, but I
also know that, like when you're out getting coffee, when
you're out for lunch, it's the only thing anyone wants
to ask, right.
Speaker 10 (49:56):
So Denzel, A'll ask, how do the quarterbacks look? What
do you think?
Speaker 13 (50:00):
Yeah, quarterbacks are looking good, man. They out here competing.
And I said, just like you guys, I'm looking forward
to see who that starring quarterback is going to become
Game one and uh, but they're all out here competing,
all looking good, working hard.
Speaker 12 (50:10):
I mean this year, I've been saying this for a while,
like the preseason actually means something like because of.
Speaker 10 (50:17):
The quarterback competition, right, definitely.
Speaker 3 (50:20):
Yeah, so we'll end with that.
Speaker 10 (50:22):
Definitely. That means that means yes, Denzel's good to see you, man,
you as well.
Speaker 1 (50:25):
Man.
Speaker 10 (50:26):
All right, good luck out here in camp, have fun
in Carolina.
Speaker 15 (50:29):
Thank you, appreciate it. All right, there you go Andrew
to Silliana. What's look at that right there? What's he got?
He got a six pack? There is that a cooler?
Speaker 2 (50:39):
Look at him?
Speaker 8 (50:41):
Yes?
Speaker 16 (50:47):
God?
Speaker 4 (50:48):
Oh yeah, yes, ladies, gentleman.
Speaker 2 (50:51):
Yes, now that he's out of his vehicle, let him hear. Yes,
he got here. Look at this he's got. He's got
a cooler, the great off gear. Look what is this?
What treats are inside of you? Oh?
Speaker 5 (51:06):
Some meats?
Speaker 2 (51:07):
The meats? Oh my, oh my, go coach, what a treat?
Did you get a chance to talk to uh? To
our new tackle? Killian for Munich? I actually I wondered,
who's gonna work? But real quick we wondered.
Speaker 17 (51:29):
His best friend in Munich was one of my linemen
played for the Ravens, Philip Fine zero for his preseason game.
Because he was playing for the Texans last year, I
sent him a little video, Hey, pumping him up. You
could do this you're gonna kick some and then you know,
get him fired up. Had had a good season, and
then I'm fired up. I can't believe we signed him
(51:49):
the same day that I showed.
Speaker 2 (51:50):
Up I wave. People are saying that perhaps you had
a hand in this, given the connection.
Speaker 17 (51:55):
Well, I can either confirm nor deny this because I'm
excited that there is a coincidence.
Speaker 16 (52:00):
Oh, I'm gonna leave the stuff here because I you
know the after stuff. But we got some stuff here,
and then you should into it. Rip into it right now.
You're gonna have a little knife. It doesn't have the
nice easy open just yet, so you got to use
pen knife or I think I can get it.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
Asked if you could do that, you've got grip straight.
Speaker 5 (52:21):
No, I don't.
Speaker 3 (52:21):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
I don't. I thought I did. I could have really
sealed great sea in the great half. What a seal there,
that's a great seal.
Speaker 4 (52:29):
These are the meats we've been dying to try. Boy,
I don't know. The half ceiling crew on the Hoff
beef is elite.
Speaker 2 (52:39):
And if you want to have that vacuum seal to
keep the flavor and the freshness in there, Hof's going
to work. He's going to work. He's going to work
the great holl There we go, crack, did you get it?
Speaker 1 (52:49):
There?
Speaker 2 (52:49):
You go?
Speaker 3 (52:50):
Let me try one of these beef sticks.
Speaker 2 (52:52):
Yeah, but you want to suck down a beef stick
to give it?
Speaker 3 (52:55):
You want a beef stick to come. I look like
a man that says no to a beef stick.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
Apple out of these ones, so I add I was
j Mac. That's a delicious beefstick. My god, it's the apple.
And you know Wisconsin known for its cheddar.
Speaker 3 (53:11):
How did he get him here?
Speaker 5 (53:13):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (53:13):
And of course no, no, no cooler on the trip.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
He was in Canton for the weekend. Oh yeah, it's delightful.
Speaker 2 (53:21):
That's a nutmeg am I getting cinnamon.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
H mm hmmm mm hmmm.
Speaker 4 (53:30):
What a real treat, What a real treat here on
a Monday, sucking down some hof beef.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
That's iod that Wisconsin schuddar in there. We had, you know, yeah,
I've had these and these are it's almost like a
if meat sticks were desserts. We're getting here. Protein pop
really really good consistency too. It's you got a snap on.
Is important to have the snap if you.
Speaker 4 (53:58):
Got a beefstick that doesn't have a snap, then you
got problems. Yeah, what a delight, What a delight, great
seeing him.
Speaker 3 (54:08):
Oh, he'll be with us all week.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
He's literally coaching. He ran the offensive line, meaning this
morning was in there with coach Bilodon.
Speaker 4 (54:16):
How cool is that. That's such a cool thing to
have a resource like the hoff and then to use.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
It, I said. He basically was like, hey share some knowledge,
so he did, so he did. Knowledge was shared.
Speaker 4 (54:28):
All right, we're gonna take a quick time out on
the other side. Away we go. Remember if you miss
the press conference, you missed some of the earlier parts
of the show. Just two quarterbacks available for team. Those
quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Shoodoeur Sanders. So that's what we're
going to see here. Coming up second hour Cleveland Rosely

Speaker 2 (55:36):
I think, So, I think that's right.
Speaker 5 (55:39):
This is it.
Speaker 3 (55:40):
I think this is it for us being outside.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
Well, I'll miss it. I love it. I love these
I love painting the pictures as it were. Well that
I like, Yeah, what would be great is if it
could just be simulcast into our studio and we could
call it off of the screen from when when it
was crazy condition.
Speaker 4 (55:56):
Yeah, the humidity was the humidity and the bugs. The
great Bernard over here, they're the legend. Boy he picks
up a pen. It's like Tiger Woods. Yeah, you pick
up a pen, You're never gonna stop, buddy.
Speaker 2 (56:06):
No, there's gonna be throngs.
Speaker 4 (56:10):
I was trying to explain this to the boys, and
the best way that I've I've come up with, and
it's actually what I've come up with, is to steal
from you players just getting warmed up by the way
out here where in the position groups just kind of
warming up by the way.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
I've loaned it to you.
Speaker 4 (56:23):
Okay, thank you, appreciate that you loan me the take,
and I think it's the correct one.
Speaker 3 (56:29):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (56:29):
Berth's a great Bernie there he is Bernie. You want
to meet Stick? Do you want to meet Stick? From
Joe to that part of the part of the regimen? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Well we could blend it up for you. There is
apple in it, apple and cheddar. Yeah. Yeah. How you doing, man,
I'm doing good.
Speaker 14 (56:49):
This is this is so therapeutic to be out here
watching football training camp.
Speaker 8 (56:56):
Beautiful day, it's not one hundred degrees much nicer.
Speaker 2 (57:00):
This weekend we had burnie.
Speaker 8 (57:01):
Oh, gorgeous week gorgeous.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
No humidity. Were you down in Cantona?
Speaker 5 (57:05):
All?
Speaker 14 (57:06):
I went down to Canton a little bit, still super
humbling to watch, to watch the guys. And maybe I'm
getting a little more reflective as I age age a
little bit, sure, but I see my slowness and the
way I move, and I see some of my compatriots
that were a little slower though we used to be.
Speaker 4 (57:26):
It's so I've only been down there once. We were
down there for Joe's when he went in, you know,
and and it's almost in less. I can't imagine for
you being an NFL legend the way that you are,
and because you just run into the damnedest people in
the damnedest places. The whole league convenes on Canton for
that weekend yeap, and it's like the whole lea and
(57:48):
not just the league, Bernie, the history of the league
is all there that weekend.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
Yeah, it's awesome.
Speaker 8 (57:55):
I concur with you.
Speaker 14 (57:57):
I'm gonna I'm gonna say it back out in the
spirit of our listeners trying to pretend like I'm.
Speaker 8 (58:01):
Cool and stuff.
Speaker 14 (58:03):
You are super I'm super humbled by when I'm there.
I'm almost fanboyed for sure to some guys and a
little bit intimidated to where, you know, do I feel
like I should be in some of those environments and stuff,
and the fans.
Speaker 8 (58:20):
Are so awesome to me.
Speaker 14 (58:22):
But sometimes I'm getting more cheers then some guys who
should get more cheers than me, and I'm not in
the hall, and that's super humbling.
Speaker 8 (58:31):
But at times like it.
Speaker 14 (58:33):
Was, it was cool to be part of that, but
it was something where I'm cognizant and.
Speaker 8 (58:38):
Respectful of the guys with the gold jacket.
Speaker 2 (58:41):
You're beloved though. You're a legend. You are beloved in
this town. You're an institution here. I say it all
the time, and this is the truth. I grew up
in the San Francisco Bay Area. Obviously, Joe Montana was
the quarterback of the forty nine ers, and in my
youth there were a great many Super Bowls. When you
are one percent this is not nice. Nine point nine
percent or I'm one hundred percent sure you are more
(59:03):
popular and more beloved here than Joe Montane is in
the Bay Area. There's something about you the human being
that is so endearing. Not to mention that you are
in that period of Browns football in a football town
is the best period of Browns football. Everybody absolutely loves it.
People of our age. That is like when I when
I today, I could go anywhere and you got to
(59:25):
do a show with Bernie. Yeah, yep, you're Bernie kozar Man.
So you absolutely, you absolutely belong. You are elite. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (59:34):
The other thing I think you deserve a lot of
credit for is you've kind of been the face of
sports in this region for forty years. Yeah, decades, You've
been that man Like you're there. I mean, you sign
an autographs here. I mean, all these years later, you
resonate as much now as you did in nineteen eighty five,
which is an incredible.
Speaker 8 (59:54):
Trage to say, thank you guys so much.
Speaker 14 (59:56):
You know, I'm thanks for pointing out this is it's
true inflating. But to walk over here and see all
those little boys Carrie in at nineteen, for all you
thirty five to forty five year old parents out there,
you're awesome because I know, I know those kids weren't
alive when I was there, so they got really.
Speaker 8 (01:00:15):
Good parents, right right, Tom up.
Speaker 2 (01:00:19):
Right, Bertie.
Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
We got a we got a big day in front
of us because we've got Dylan. Gabriel's not going to
do team because of a hamstring. Kenny's not going to
do team, so it's Joe and everyone's been wanting Shador
to get a look. It feels like today could be
the day.
Speaker 14 (01:00:35):
Yeah, Like we talked the end of last week, it's
tough and sad for Kenny.
Speaker 8 (01:00:40):
Hopefully looking better that he'll be ready for.
Speaker 14 (01:00:43):
The Carolina Philly practices, which is essential, but in badness
is massive opportunity for others.
Speaker 8 (01:00:50):
So Shador, you.
Speaker 14 (01:00:51):
Know, having a little arm issue, not maybe throwing this weekend.
Hopefully you know he's able to take advantage of it,
and I be super excited to get those rafts.
Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
Yeah, I'm excited to you just want to see what
it looks like, and you want to see if you know,
do we have a shot here with Shador and it
look it is on its face if knowing nothing else
about him, knowing nothing about his college careers, family, if
you said he's a fifth round pick, he's probably not
in this competition, and thus far he really hasn't been,
which is appropriate for being a fifth round pick on
(01:01:23):
a team with four quarterbacks in camp. But today is
an opportunity for him, who a guy that many people
thought was the best quarterback in this draft. There are
certainly some did and afters thought he was certainly the
second best quarterback in the draft. To prove that he
is in fact that he should get some looks today
and that will be very very interesting to see. One
thing I've seen over there that's a little right now
(01:01:45):
not great, is the ball has hit the ground a lot,
and these routes on air, not Shador, I think is
throwing that one. They're right on the money to rold
Fan and but this practice on Friday last week and
Saturday was a little better, but not much. Was very
loppy in the passing game, very sloppy. Ken Sefanski was
you could tell you don't typically hear him when he
(01:02:05):
gets everybody together, you could hear him pretty loudly that
what he that was unacceptable. If this team wants to
be a team of consequence.
Speaker 8 (01:02:15):
I don't know if it's appropriate.
Speaker 14 (01:02:17):
So cut me off with certain things that we talk about.
Don't talk about, but I coach Stefanski was awesome. I thought,
as an old school guy who sometimes maybe you can't
talk way the ways I used to talk forty years
ago and coaches used to talk in there, And if
it's okay to say, coach Stefanski, who's a brilliant, beautiful, articulate,
(01:02:40):
eloquent person. For the first time I ventured up on
Friday because Jason Garrett was there and I kind of
ventured up towards the team talk at the end of
practice for the first time this camp.
Speaker 8 (01:02:51):
And we get a mouthful of energy.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
Yes, so he was.
Speaker 14 (01:02:56):
I love that they look at it sometimes we are
professional guys who sometimes need a kick in the backside
and reminded that we are we like we play an
aggressive game, and we did. We were off a little bit,
but that's a little bit natural the first week after hitting.
So I love the way coach Dvansky kind of addressed
(01:03:17):
the team and gave us, gave us a wake up call.
Speaker 4 (01:03:20):
You see it over there. I don't know if you
saw that. Dylan really short armed that out there. It
was well behind her. You feel like he's definitely.
Speaker 14 (01:03:28):
So if your hand he's there, you're you're not stepping, yeah,
and you're coming down almost like on the baseball mound.
Speaker 8 (01:03:36):
If you're gonna short arm your front pitch.
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
Is if as a quarterback, is it better if it's
your front leg or your back leg or is either
leg equally as bad because your back legs kind of
your drive leg, right, your front leg would be more
your plant leg.
Speaker 8 (01:03:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (01:03:51):
I I didn't really have enough muscles to really tear them,
and I didn't move fast enough to.
Speaker 8 (01:03:58):
Really hurt my drop. So that's that's a really good
question I have to ask an athletic quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
Then all right, Browns have made a sign. So I
was wondering here, I was looking out there, I'm like,
who the heck is Number forty four? And I went
on our website Leroy Kelly, and there was a forty
four on part touched Bobby. But so there we did
sign a tight end. That makes me feel a lot better.
I'm not seeing things. Browns have signed tight end Mitch
van Voren, a rookie out of Saint Norbert, originally signed
(01:04:24):
by Seattle's and undrafted phage of the offseason. In his
two seasons the area one thousand yard thirteen touchdowns, also
an All American for the track team, finishing fourth in
the Division three Outdoor National Championship in the four hundred
meter hurdles. He will wear number forty four, and then
the Browns also selected trevy On assigned trevy On Williams,
entering his seventh NFL season out of Texas A and M.
It was a Bengals pick in the sixth round last season,
(01:04:46):
appeared in seventeen games for Cincinnati. He will wear number
thirty six as the Browns try to add a little
more depth in that running back room and keep bringing
people in. I like that tight end.
Speaker 14 (01:04:55):
I think, see you know I'm friends with aj Barner,
Aurora y School four third round pick from Michigan to Seattle.
They took for their number one pick, Royo the tight
End from from the University.
Speaker 8 (01:05:08):
I love them.
Speaker 14 (01:05:09):
So they're loaded, so they don't have space under tight
End room to keep guys like that.
Speaker 8 (01:05:16):
So that could be a nice, nice little pickup.
Speaker 14 (01:05:18):
But typically these pickups is time to year aren't overly sexy.
But that could add add depth for a guy who
loves the twelve and thirteen personnel c our offense this year.
Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
Anything into that running back? Yeah, so Pierre Strong is
not practicing today, Okay, So that I think is that
tells the direct correlation. Yeah, so when you think about it, no,
you know, no Quinchohn, no Pierre Strong. And now you've
got to get a fifth running back in here. And
so Trevion Williams gets signed right there for the Browns.
(01:05:53):
He's a veteran. He's a guy that you know, has
been in the league. Like I said, for a while,
I think he could come in and know exactly what
he's got to do. But yeah, this is so Julian
Pearl with the signing of the two tackles. The other
day we talked about it. I said, they have ten
tackles in here. Well, now they've got nine. Julian Pearl
will go ahead and he has been released by the
Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 4 (01:06:14):
Bernie, when you're put me in the head of Shador
and you know you've been doing all of the things
everybody's saying, you're doing all the things right, but you
weren't getting the opportunities. And now, unfortunately for the other
two buddies in your room that go down and they're
both going to be on the shelf. Now you may
get this opportunity. What someone who all they've done their
(01:06:35):
life is be accurate in play football. What's critical that
you want to see from him today and where's his
head need to be.
Speaker 14 (01:06:43):
So I'm not trying to just be a homer being
on the Browns bandwagon, the Chador bandwagon, but I am
and how shoudour and we talked with him Friday on
the Insider Show and that, yeah, he can't be more
spectacular in terms of how he's conducting himself and some
of the things that.
Speaker 8 (01:07:03):
You watch out here in terms of he was an.
Speaker 14 (01:07:07):
Hour early for practice today doing individual drills, not just
out here floating around getting camera shots and social media.
Speaker 8 (01:07:15):
He's doing actual, actual work to get better. Then he's
one of the last guys to leave.
Speaker 14 (01:07:21):
He genuinely bonds and it's awesome the young people here
that are kind of relating to me in that.
Speaker 8 (01:07:27):
But this spark that he.
Speaker 14 (01:07:29):
Gives them, the energy that he gives is super special.
And people say, well, that doesn't correlate to being a
leader in the in the football and.
Speaker 8 (01:07:39):
Locker room, and I disagree. I actually love some.
Speaker 14 (01:07:42):
Of the personality he's doing, the way it's somewhat galvanizing
of the locker room and if he can keep up
with that with where it matches his performance with plays
on the field.
Speaker 8 (01:07:53):
And for the people that.
Speaker 14 (01:07:54):
Were overly panicked about no reps early notice, even without
reps and stop, his arm still got tired. Yeah, so
it is different in the pros. So it's a it's
a marathon. And for him not to get some good
reps today by himself, this is I think he's ready
for it.
Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
And some people were criticizing him for doing the extra
throwing before and after and saying that's why his arms
tired and he should know better, and.
Speaker 14 (01:08:16):
Yeah, I screwed that up as a kid to look at.
There's certain things when you're a perfectionist. I love he's
a perfectionist. I love his pursuit of loving the process
and being perfectionists. And yeah, Gary Danielson tried to warn
me too, and sometimes you throw your arm a little
bit out, and.
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
Well what he was saying the hard part for him
is and he's used to obviously being the starter. He
got every rep in Colorado, and it's been the you know,
you get three reps here and then you don't throw
the ball for fifteen minutes and then you come in
and you're trying to put mustard on it, and so
it's been kind of it was it was a cost
from overwork, which, by the way, he's trying to get
reps any way he can. It was more cause from
(01:08:56):
the start stop start the four quarterback and I had
to keep his arm loose.
Speaker 14 (01:09:03):
Yeah, well he's young. Actually, God, I'm not to be
selfish something. And that's why I retired. I' would warm
up at twelve thirty of when I was a backup
at the end of my career, but if I didn't play,
it would be like till three o'clock and I couldn't
I couldn't recrank it open again. Once that arm got
loose that it only stayed loose one.
Speaker 8 (01:09:23):
Time for a couple hours.
Speaker 2 (01:09:25):
We had to squeeze. But that's a big adjustment. I
think that's gotta be huge.
Speaker 4 (01:09:28):
It's a huge It's a huge one. Yes, I mean
we were talking earlier. I was down at O Highest
State camp last week, and the amount of reps that
they wrapped those quarterbacks through compared to how little they
get here, it's amazing. I mean, so much has changed
in this sport, and college isn't what it used to
be either, but they still get a little bit more
time that I feel like these guys get in terms
of just throwing the football in team. Yeah, yeah, they
(01:09:50):
just get a little more, especially in a two per
there it's a two person quarterback thing and here, you know,
it's kind of four.
Speaker 2 (01:09:56):
So Brown's right now, Bernie. They're working on like a
fake jerky route where you're running that little out, you know,
and you jerk it back in, but it's kind of
a one step fake back in on the jerk route
and getting back out. So trying to find some some
man coverage beaters down there in the red zone.
Speaker 14 (01:10:11):
So I love that, and I really love that kind
of jerk rowd in and out from the slot receiver
in the red zone.
Speaker 8 (01:10:20):
For sure.
Speaker 14 (01:10:21):
That was my go to two minute play for safety in.
Speaker 8 (01:10:25):
With Reggie Langhorn. You know, when you're doing four receivers.
Speaker 14 (01:10:29):
Man, you got something cute, and if it's too deep,
they end up settling right in front of you with
that middle read behind it. So that's a that's a
really good play to actually implement, not just the red
zone that we're working on today, but into into two minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
So when you say that settle in with the middle
read behind it, you're you're reading then the mic. If
the mic comes short, you throw it over his head.
If he says deep, you take it right.
Speaker 14 (01:10:52):
Yeah, and then I was Langhorn or a slot receiver
with some athleticism turning it up.
Speaker 5 (01:10:59):
It's now.
Speaker 14 (01:11:00):
I did make that mistake one time, the one poor
throw in my illustrious career. I pride myself home not
killing any of my receivers over the middle.
Speaker 8 (01:11:08):
But that was only one time. Though.
Speaker 14 (01:11:10):
The mistake was to Reggie Langhorn and Sam Mills decapitated.
Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
So one mistakeeah the Panthers at Ricky Jackson, Sam Swelling.
Speaker 8 (01:11:29):
I had two prerequisites in the league.
Speaker 14 (01:11:32):
If I played Ronnie Lott, he would get an interception
against me and if I paid played Pat Swilling, Sam Mills,
and Ricky Jackson.
Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
I was on.
Speaker 14 (01:11:45):
I got a safety in the super Dome against me
the two times I played Jesus God, I caught the
lights on the super Dome and at the Old Giant Stadium, Taylor,
those were squads defensive for sure.
Speaker 8 (01:12:00):
Wonder I got concussion.
Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
All that astro turf didn't help you either, buddy, Oh.
Speaker 18 (01:12:06):
No, it wasn't pavement painted pain painted cement.
Speaker 4 (01:12:11):
All right, it looks like we could be getting uh,
we're gonna get it right right here in front of us,
and it's you know, it's interesting, like if you're Kenny,
especially Kenny, I'm sure he's just chomping.
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
At the bit to do anything. Yeah, get a little
one on so hopefully get a little one on ones
here looks like in front of us, Yeah, get Flacco
and pick it here with the receivers and down at
the other end, it's gonna be Chadure and Dylan Gabriel
will be my guess, the running backs and the tight
ends for some one on ones here. It looks like
low red zone inside the ten one on ones. So
(01:12:43):
that's why you're seeing over on air they're working that
double jerk route kind of the the fake on it.
So I'm sure you're gonna see some of those concepts
that they were just working on. Grounds were also running
where you run that speed out right to the goal line,
but it's really an out and up with the ball
thrown on the out so a little loft on it
to I had hit right at the back pylon there
and take advantage of a corner that's trying to jump
(01:13:04):
that quick out. There's Cedric Tillman working against Chickenoosium. He
gets into the end zone there on a quick little out,
So we're gonna kind of progress here. I bet we're
gonna get out the out and up and then the
jerk route. There's black Yep, there's the kind of and
like almost a you out from Jamari Thrash. Good coverage
(01:13:26):
from Cam Mitchell there.
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
This is the one you came to see this. That's
Denzel and Jerry right here near us.
Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
Oh, Judy gets him on the out there touchdown from
Joe Flecko.
Speaker 5 (01:13:39):
You know, I love the.
Speaker 14 (01:13:40):
Way in today's game and the red zone inside the five,
they throw these quick outs like that.
Speaker 8 (01:13:46):
There was a hardened rule in.
Speaker 14 (01:13:47):
The seventies, eighties and early nineties that thou never throws
a quick out inside the five.
Speaker 8 (01:13:55):
And I really argue.
Speaker 14 (01:13:56):
And struggle with that because I believe you could throw that,
but you weren't allowed to do that back in the day.
And you could see that that really does open up
the field and then allows that slam type stuff.
Speaker 8 (01:14:09):
Crossing routes have a better chance to get open.
Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
That was a nice route by DeAndre Carter there kind
of faked that out and then spun it back to
the inside. The jerk route got open. Gauge Larvadan, nice
out along the back line, fun good ball from Kenny
Pickett as well got him lean into the outside. Bernie
broke it to the inside around that back line and
a good ball from Kenny Pickett to get in there
for the touchdown. Larvadan has had a great camp on
(01:14:34):
the other side. That was the new tight end there
got a touchdown from Schudor Sanders van Vooren. I feel like,
I feel like the hoff comes here and it's all.
Speaker 5 (01:14:44):
Names.
Speaker 14 (01:14:46):
I was gonna ask you to repeat that again so
I have the courage to say it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:51):
Oh, there's that double jerk Luke who's been creating a separation.
Speaker 14 (01:14:58):
We've been talking about the first t weeks of camp
that this jerk route inside spot is so meant for him.
Speaker 8 (01:15:05):
Ak a little Brian Brennan looking.
Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
There, Keishawn Johnson there with a nice little cross the
face with the slant right now, and the Browns receivers
having a very good time and they should. This should
be a drill where you get a lot of touchdownsne
out that who threw that was that picket? That was
Kenny Pickett' That was a beautiful ball and that outing
(01:15:29):
up we were talking about, Bernie, where the ball's in
the air while Tilman's making the move and it hit
him perfectly in stride at the back corner of that
end zone, perfectly in stride. That was a heck of
a throw. So pickets looking pretty good here, Jamorry Thresh,
Miles Harden out ball maybe a little late there, a
little bit a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:15:51):
It's just good to see Kenny Beck out here spinning
it a little bit, you know, after last week when
he was down and I'm sure he knows like how
critical all of this is.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
And that's another good one, good ball. The fade up
to the new receiver coda right there, six', four went
up and got. It nice catch there For Chad. Coda
did his dad, Play, yes he was the. Safety. Okay
did he play At? Oregon, Yes, okay that must have
happened Last that was THE a came in On. FRIDAY
(01:16:21):
i want to.
Speaker 4 (01:16:21):
Say, okay YEAH i. Didn't he was not here last.
TIME i was so THAT i heard that name and it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
Was reiver And oregon did not play With Dylan. Gabriel
he was Pre Dylan gabriel At. Oregon DeAndre carter running
nice routes right there and he got.
Speaker 18 (01:16:36):
Held joe could throw this gorgeous effortless so, easy just
spins it me, like that's Back good coverage By denzel
On judy. There, yeah it was that back. Shoulder But
Andre carter's showing you a little bit more as a
receiver THAN i. Think maybe we barred for it this
(01:16:57):
season over five hundred yards as a member of The,
chargers and you know he's to be the. Returner but
it'd be great if you could get something else out
of them as.
Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
Well it's good coverage there on the far. Side oh
got a little. Hold Money brown draws the flag On
Caden davis. There push ups are, happening BUT i think
they didn't need to do it on the offensive. Side
they got the flag there on the competition. Rep, yeah all,
right it's gonna be a little. Special teams give a
so this might be a.
Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
Time take a quick time. Out, yeah all, right there you.
Go we'll continue to paint the. Pictures the final open
to the public training camp practice of the, year and
we're seeing some good stuff here. Early look forward to
the team reps which are going to come a little bit.

for and For dylan.
Speaker 12 (01:18:30):
Actually got to See Hammy saturday at the. Ballpark but,
yes you're talking about these. Hammies what ballpark was that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:37):
The baseball?
Speaker 12 (01:18:38):
Park oh, GOSH i forget big, win big Win, saturday pace,
reguards but yes it. Is, hey, listen it's it's like one,
day one day, on one day, off one guy, in
one guy. Out so, yeah shoot or says the arm is,
fine which is. Reassuring good to hear him on the podium.
Earlier come back and say we're good and, uh maybe
some more reps rim now in this red zone drill
That i'm sure you guys were just talking. About we
(01:18:59):
did not see. Him that was All flacco And Kenny.
Pickett how About Chris coda with the Catch speaking of
rookies just signed last week with the catch of the.
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
Period dylan And shador on the other, end with the
tight ends and the running backs doing their red zone
one on, one so we were not able to really
kind of don, yeah which was good, work good, Work
and we'll see today because If chador is gonna, have
if he's gonna get first team, reps feels like it'll
be today with these. Injuries if he's, not if he
doesn't get, them today doesn't feel like it's gonna.
Speaker 12 (01:19:27):
Happen kevin was asked point, blank you guys heard it
when he was on the, podium is he gonna get
first team? Reps and he basically, said you're at, practice
wait and. See, Hey i'm here for, it and either,
way it's all about what we get In. Carolina so
like which seems to be a muddy picture right. RIGHT
i Hope chador comes to. Today, okay Hope gabriel maybe
the hammy gets a little.
Speaker 10 (01:19:47):
REST i want to see both.
Speaker 12 (01:19:49):
Of those guys This. Friday i'm not sure we're going
to but fingers crossed.
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
ALL i want to see part of like, today we.
Speaker 14 (01:20:01):
WILL i don't KNOW i have any inside, knowledge SO
i can't say this as definitively As i'm about, to
BUT i would authoritatively say we will See shador with
the first team, today mainly Because Joe flacco's forty years,
old eighteen years only we can't run him ragged and
lose his arm on A.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Monday all, right seven on seven's right, Here Joe flacco
with the, ones and that was a great little route
From harold fannin yep for a nice easy completion over
the middle for The browns at. Linebacker they No ma mood.
Diabate so you Got Devin bush And Carson swessngern. There Grant,
delpit good to see him back in the team. Drills
but about, YES i don't know IF i recall ever
let alone two a quarterback hamstring injury in training.
Speaker 4 (01:20:44):
Camp, no, no, NO i Mean i'm not keeping track.
Either but like the other THING i would say, too
is we're we're kind of in this seven on seven
phase right, now And joe kind of slings it out
to chief there for a little.
Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
Shorty he Wanted lardavan of that deep. Ball had to help.
Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
Coverage, yeah sure does not have his helmet. On not right.
Now No flacco is there picking that all four quarterbacks
are over in the. Area he did Want gauge on
a deep kind of a go, route, though But denzel
And delpit had him bracketed checked it down to the,
Chief David ajoku seven on. Sevens this is not full
contact we saw On, saturday, Though andrew probably the one
(01:21:23):
you talked about it With Denzel. Ward the biggest full
contact PERIOD i can recall in A Cleveland browns training
camp In.
Speaker 3 (01:21:30):
Forever gibbie had the.
Speaker 12 (01:21:31):
Stopwatch you clocked it at twenty two, minutes right live
period for twenty two minutes On. Saturday, yeah that's that's
real tackle.
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
Football.
Speaker 12 (01:21:41):
Absolutely denzel said it felt like a. Half denzel said
he loved. It denzil also had a really nice pass.
Breakup we talked about it, there got his hand in
on a ball to, said you heard What Jim schwartz
said today, Said i've been coaching for thirty, Years denzel
is the best Corner i've.
Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
Had and that is high praise because he's definitely coached
some good ones in his. Tenure Joe flacco three for
three kind of here in this early going.
Speaker 14 (01:22:04):
And effortlessly throwing just artistically perfect spirals right in.
Speaker 12 (01:22:09):
Rhythm effortlessly and. ARTISTICALLY i love, It, Bernie it's just.
NATURAL i think he could Just, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:22:15):
He's just just so.
Speaker 2 (01:22:16):
EASY i flato in the shotgun looking to the left. Side. Beautiful,
Nice we'll come back To Deontay. Johnson he's somebody.
Speaker 3 (01:22:24):
THAT i mean that.
Speaker 14 (01:22:25):
Great, yeah like a strong armed eighteen yard comeback over
the slot defender throwing it To Deontay johnson at seven
yards in our seven feet in The Air. Tour Only
deontay can catch it at fourteen forty years.
Speaker 3 (01:22:41):
Old it's just spectacular to.
Speaker 12 (01:22:42):
Watch AM i the only one hoping that he gets
in the. Game friday Hoof Deontay. Johnson oh, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
Carolina oh, yeah, yeah, YES i think HE'S i, mean
he looks like he absolutely should be featured in our
eleven personnel And judy With nzel draped the throw on the.
Speaker 3 (01:23:02):
Square.
Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
Absolutely can you Imagine.
Speaker 14 (01:23:04):
Jontay johnson playing Against carolina motivated like? That if he
happens to get a backup corner and, PRESS i think
he'd eat him.
Speaker 3 (01:23:13):
Alive can you.
Speaker 4 (01:23:14):
Guys imagine If flacco was twenty? Four, well, yeah he's
was the first JUMP i, know but like we've been
searching for that since this. Guy that are like the
thrill of seeing like a guy fresh and new at twenty,
three twenty, Four like obviously it's awesome to have him.
Now but this is obviously the, twilight like the thrill
of seeing that at twenty, three twenty four and, like my,
(01:23:35):
god we got, It Kenny Pickett, now all.
Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
Right So kenny's in the rip in the. Sevens here's
eleven on, eleven but in in seven on, seven which
is more work than we have seen from him the
last since the.
Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
Injury it's a step in the right.
Speaker 10 (01:23:47):
Direction and, Look, Kenny kenny was pretty open On.
Speaker 12 (01:23:49):
Saturday, yeah like not, angry, frustrated but, Yeah i'm, frustrated
LIKE i want to be out. There he said he
had been pressing to do team stuff and they had
told him pull it.
Speaker 3 (01:23:58):
Back, yeah don't do.
Speaker 14 (01:23:59):
It so one of the THINGS i, Say alaw is
us players we have to be help ourselves from. Ourselves
and even THOUGH i Love kenny's, effort he wants to
get out there faster than probably the team. Does and
he saw even on his throat he's a little low
and that's coming from probably not overstride in his hamstrand.
Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
He, wanted Said tillman on a double move there and
probably should have thrown got a flag, anyway holding on
the defense Because Chris edmonds was caught out of position
and just grab.
Speaker 12 (01:24:28):
Him he had a little head and shoulder fake on
that deep. Shot he had said that he had told
the coaches or or the, trainers, look just put me in.
THERE i won't move in the. Pocket i'm Gonna i'm
gonna be.
Speaker 2 (01:24:39):
Station and they, said, no, nope, no you gotta save
you from yourself in that scenario. Exactly that's not a
realistic your instincts, kicking but he.
Speaker 14 (01:24:48):
Understood to use that one with a bad, ankle and
your intentions are to do that until you're in the
middle of play and bullets are.
Speaker 10 (01:24:56):
Flat, Well, bernie we had to take the zone read a,
game zone read game from.
Speaker 3 (01:25:00):
You of course you had you had that club in your, bag.
Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
Right of, course nice deep comeback right there From Kenny
pickett talking about driving the, Ball bernie To Caden. Davis
that was that same throw That placo made And Kenny
pickett had nice velocity on. It and you talk about
getting the ball up and down, quickly got it up
kind of where we'd be over, that but then down
to the, receiver get that spiral the nose to turn.
Over so so Far flacco And pickets getting all the
(01:25:29):
reps in this seven on seven, period looking For harold
fan on that. Corner it's a good placement on that
one that it Was Rayshawn jenkins is going to undercut
that by just buy a fingertip over that. One i'm
telling you right, Now Harold fannin has, been if not
the most impressive player on offense this. Camp he certainly
has been one of those that have stood Out bernie
(01:25:51):
and that when you get a guy with that kind of,
size that kind of route running ability and those, hands
he ends up becoming a quarterback's best. Friend, well if
you wanted the reps for shador or come back another.
Day Dylen abriel now up third up here with, it
so he's battling. It this is a little strange, though
right he. WASN'T i thought the thing was he wasn't
doing this. WELL i guess maybe there he even said
(01:26:11):
he would be.
Speaker 3 (01:26:12):
Limited.
Speaker 2 (01:26:13):
Huh, way that was a heck of a ball The
Deontay johnson and a great catch By Deontay. Johnson that's
Where dylan had Struggled bernie over the middle of the.
Field he'd been missing high too. Often now seven on
seven is a lot different than when you've got The,
lineman AND i think his vision at times had been
a bit of a, problem but that was a good.
Throw Deontay, Johnson i've seen, Like i've seen. Enough he's
as long as he's being what he needs to, be
(01:26:33):
not between the white. Lines, yeah in the white, lines
he's probably our second best receiver right now or certainly
right there was said where that's your eleven personnel. Grouping.
Speaker 14 (01:26:43):
Yeah to add on To, Deontay, god what a gorgeous
hands catch, too with those white gloves is sticking up
and strongly grasping that With denzel.
Speaker 3 (01:26:52):
War draped on his.
Speaker 4 (01:26:53):
Back you're Mentioning fan AND z like he needs to Be, Yes,
yeah he needs to be a dude we don't. Have
we need to have him be a real, weapon especially
a really Good we can't figure out the number two wide.
Speaker 3 (01:27:06):
Receiver. Sorry, Right and to add, IN i was.
Speaker 14 (01:27:10):
Trying to be quiet During nathan's beautiful description to him
being one of the most dominant offensive guys he has.
Been i've been trying to think of more, perlatives different
words to say the same.
Speaker 8 (01:27:22):
Thing every day he does something he absolutely needs to
be on the field With david a joke who causing
issues it's.
Speaker 4 (01:27:31):
Interesting, YEAH i mean this is this is what four
reps For dylan, yep now or has his helmet on it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
Least so they went all the way through.
Speaker 4 (01:27:40):
With flacco and Then pickett got some and Now dylan
now looks like is going to come out now as
the fourth quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
Out, yeah so that's kind of consistent what it's. Been
that is what it has, been and it is apparently
what will be. Now if there is a period Where
shador could maybe get a first team reper, to it'll
have to be in the eleven on, eleven the full
eam portions of. It but that was a good session
right there For Dylan. Gabrie a couple of checkdowns at
the end and one that was a little, errant but
(01:28:06):
the throw To Deontay johnson was one of the best
throws he's.
Speaker 3 (01:28:08):
Made, yep.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
Quick and. Decisive they're From. Shador that's your, guy Sal,
is That's. Salcnela it is big eighty seven and they've
had a good connection so far in the problem number.
Speaker 10 (01:28:20):
Four in your depth charted tight end right, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:28:23):
He And Brendan bates probably competing for that fourth tight
end spot if there is to be. One most likely
that'll be a spot that is on the practice squad
but involved in what you're. Doing, oh we got out
That Floria Keshawn johnson out to the.
Speaker 3 (01:28:40):
Left johnson looked good in the red zone drills earlier as.
Speaker 2 (01:28:42):
Well he's a big he's got a big. Body, Yeah
flora in a short motion coming across.
Speaker 14 (01:28:51):
It.
Speaker 5 (01:28:52):
Oh just.
Speaker 3 (01:28:55):
McDonald oh had a.
Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
Step, oh he had a step that would have got
that would have brought the place would have come on.
Speaker 12 (01:29:03):
Glued, yeah Because kate, McDonald it'll be running right into
the weight room right.
Speaker 3 (01:29:07):
Now he would that doors, closed so hopefully grips he would.
Speaker 2 (01:29:10):

hopefully he wouldn't get electrocuted with you.
Speaker 3 (01:29:15):
All, yeah of course you want to run with those.
Speaker 8 (01:29:18):
Two he wants to complete that.
Speaker 14 (01:29:19):
Baby but for having his tired arm or a sore,
arm he had a lot of life in that.
Speaker 5 (01:29:24):
Throw.
Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
Right that was cool to.
Speaker 8 (01:29:25):
See you don't want to, overthrow but at least.
Speaker 2 (01:29:29):
That's WHAT i was gonna, Say, right isn't the rule
if they have to stop to catch, it if they're
if they're. Open, now that wasn't one where it was
a busted coverage and he's so white up and where
it's just make you don't overthrow. Him that was he
was trying to get a perfect ball in, there just
missed it again checking it down on the crosser To DeAndre.
Carter that's what you want to, see, though push the
ball down the. Field you want to hit that. One
(01:29:49):
that's What i'm sure he's gonna want back is when
you get what. Threeps, man he got one, shot you
want to hit it solid session, Though, really, honestly for
ALL i thought all the quarterbacks right pretty.
Speaker 12 (01:30:00):
Good, agree especially considering you mentioned the nice ball From
gabriel To. Judy that has been one of those that
he is airmailed more than once in camp so.
Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
Far, yeah that over the middle, throw and that's. That
you can't overthrows tips and overthrows in the middle of
the field are.

one that you were thinking if there was a, chance

(01:30:37):
get a rep or two would be in this mix
here in the team.
Speaker 2 (01:30:40):
Drills so we'll see if if that is the.
Speaker 4 (01:30:43):
