Speaker 1 (00:14):
Coming to you live from the Cross Country Mortgage Campus
in Barrie, Ohio. This is Cleveland Browns Daily, presented by
Bally Bett, an official sports betting partner of your Cleveland
Browns on eight fifty ESPN Cleveland. P Are your hosts,
Bo Bishop and Nathan Zegura.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Good afternoon, Happy Friday. Rookies and quarterbacks reporting Zagura and
Gibbe the Open Championship. Scheffler making a charge. A lot
going on, very exciting by the way. I saw that.
I think a couple of the rookie qbs were here.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
I can tell you the first rookie in the building today, Yeah,
I believe. I'm going to say it, Dylan Gabriel. Dylan
Gabriel is here early, here early. That doesn't mean that
there were not others, but I think the first QB
in the building today was Dylan Gabriel. Dylan Gabriel was there.
The rookies are reporting, there has been reporting. For those
(01:24):
who are wonderable, just get right to it. But those
who are wondering what it's going to be. As it
relates to quin Shawn Judkins, but that he is not
expected to report today that both he and the Browns
want him to focus on the off field issues that
he is currently having. So rookies quarterbacks here today, with
the exception of Quinjon Judkins who remains unsigned. Now we
(01:45):
did see that the pick in front of him, nick
Eman Worri, I think, as I said, his name right,
the safety who was picked right for him in second
round with Seattle, also signed a fully guaranteed contract. So
that's going to make things a little bit interesting, I
would say going forward. Yeah, I mean, due to the circumstances,
(02:05):
I would think that becomes a little bit more challenging.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
From his standpoint, I think that I would assume that
we would have the leverage here a little bit so,
But the second round picks in general have been fascinating
to watch, you know, with this whole contract stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Well yea, because it's just never happened before.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, I don't know, If I don't, I think it's
a very slippery slope because when do you stop when
are contracts not guaranteed? Yep, So like where's what's the cutoff?
Speaker 2 (02:35):
I typically have been the first round and maybe sometimes
pick number thirty three. Yeah, that is it. So, yeah,
that's going to be interesting. But again, as Mary Kay
Cabot reported earlier today and she said, and I'll just
quote her on it, but she said, Brown's running backquinch
On Jenkins remains unsigned and won't report to training camp
today to be with the rest of the rookies. He's
(02:56):
focusing more on his legal matter right now, and so
are the Browns. So that is and that's a misdemeanor
domestic violence charge in Florida. So yeah, if I'm Dylan Samson,
this is a heck of an opportunity. Let's not forget
Dylan Samson was the SEC Offensive Player of the Year
last year. This is gonna be an incredible opportunity for
(03:18):
him to get all this work. With qwen John Jenkins
not here and he and Jerome Ford Pierre Strong, it
gives him an opportunity once again to try to keep
himself here on the squad. So that's the big news today,
Guys in the building. I gotta tell you know what.
There's a guy that we talked about yesterday and I
talked about a little bit and that he was finally
you know, getting the respect that he deserved from you know,
(03:43):
some of the reporting around him and all of those things.
Is the number three cornerback in the league. He should
be an all pro all of that. But you know,
when you one thing that never gets talked about, he's
here all the time. He was here for all the
voluntary stuff. He was I just saw him in the cafe,
who had a nice conversation with him down in the cafe.
(04:05):
He's just become such a leader for this football team.
And he's not I don't know if he's the most
vocal guy about it, but in terms of being a
leader in you know, always here, in being a pro,
being a pro, doing everything he can to be the
best of his craft. Two, he's leading by example and
I think that, you know, he is a tremendous example
for a lot of guys, certainly on this team. And
(04:28):
I'm I'm it's awesome that he's doing that. I think
it's great. Doesn't need to do it, doesn't need to
do it. He's he's a made man. But the fact
that he is and he's excited to get to work.
Told me he's so excited for the season and to
get back and get going. So that was very cool,
and I think that's something that you know, he should
he deserves the credit for that and to be shout
it out for that. So that's what I'm doing. You should.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
I'm excited to see what he can do this year again,
you know what he's capable of.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yah? Can we can we.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Turn the passes to f into turnovers?
Speaker 2 (05:02):
I mean, he's the only guy in the league history
who's had at least two interceptions and ten or more
passes defense in it was at every year he sets
a new record for the most seasons in a road
doing it to start their career. So and he's the
only one who's done it period, whether it's start of
his career or not. Since he's been in the league,
he's at least two picks every year, at least ten
or more passes defense every year.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
And it's not just him, I mean, it's the whole defense.
How do we create turnout? We're going to have to
put this offense in advantageous positions.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
No, you're not wrong about that, not wrong about that.
All right, we'll give you some quick some updates from
the open. It looked a little bit dicey there on
the weather for a second.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
But can we move the open to like Spain? But
we're somewhere where it's us.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
It's part of it. What's cool, dude, It's the Open,
it's great.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
The weather situation is just and then like you make
it to eighteen if you're the god.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Whose group was that?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Oh it was Tommy Fleetwood and he was trying to
figure out where he could drop because it was right
next to the fence line and like the drop zones
are in.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
The middle of thee it's in the middle of the fescue. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
But the other two guys that are out there with him,
I think it was Justin Thomas and it was oh,
I'm Rory.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah, it was Rory.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Like they're standing there now they have made it the
whole round with no ruin started pouring and they're on
the eighteenth hole pouring and this conversation with Fleetwood literally
takes twelve minutes, but.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
They didn't seem like they were really in a hurry
to get it going because the weather was so bad
at that moment, which was funny. But we got a
new leader right now, Matt Fitzpatrick, the former US Open champion.
He's in the lead at nine under. He's through twelve
holes today. Brian Harmon, who won the Open championship a
few years ago. He is eight under tong Lee is
eight under as well. They're tied for second. Scotty Scheffler
(06:55):
four under today he's at seven under as the playing
conditions are just a little bit easier today. We're seeing
if the winds are gonna change in the afternoon. But
he's right there. Then you've got Robert McIntyre five under,
Hoguard five under, Tyrel Hatton five under, Harris English five under,
Tony Feen. Now where you being out a nice day?
He's four under. Leads a group there that includes as
(07:15):
well Hoguard, Nicolay Hogard brothers, both of them in the
top ten and the open. That's crazy. Chris got her up,
Christopher Retan, Matthew Jordan and then Keegan Bradley leads the
group at three under that includes Rory McElroy. So that's
where the field is right there. Justin Rose should be
(07:35):
really closer to the top of the leaderboard. He's two under,
but he blew I think five shots on two holes,
which was stunning to watch him do that. But that's
where's it's send for two I know, but he hasn't
been able to through fifteen even today. Two hunder will
still put him in the top twenty, but I want
him to be. I want him to be winning. JJ Spond,
the US Open champion, is also at two under. Shane
(07:56):
Lowry is it two under?
Speaker 3 (07:57):
How about the round d Chambeau had today.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
By the way, So that's what you want to talk about,
just how crazy golf is. So Bryce and d Chambeau
in round one shot a seventy eight, which was I'm
looking see if anybody I see a couple other seventy eights.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Not many others. That's like me shooting one hundred.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
So there's a guy named Curtis Luck, actually kind of
normal for me. There's a guy named Curtis Luck that
shot eighty and then a Mackenzie Hughes that shot seventy nine,
and then Tom Hogy. Tom Hogy shot eighty one. kJ
Choy shot eighty one, and an amateur Brian Newman shot
eighty two, but seventy eight one of the high scores
of the first round. And then he comes back the
(08:37):
next day and shoots sixty five on the same golf course.
Thirteen stroke difference one day to the other is incredible.
And now he's gonna he's gonna make the cut. Projected
cut right now is two over.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Correct, two over. I think Michelson's gonna make it. Yeah,
mcle Will's put together two nice rounds. Yep, he looks like, yeah,
he was even. He was one over today, one under yesterday.
Speith is also right there in the middle as well.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
And that's where we're at.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Yeah, it's I love watching morning golf. Like we talked
about who all right, so you had a phone call.
I didn't get a chance to ask, well, who has
fallen farther since their one year of amazingness? Dustin Johnson
or Colin Mark Morikawa.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
I think Dustin Johnson might have had a little bit
of a longer run. Let's kind of I'm gonna pull
them up. But Morikawa he's just yeah, he's definitely there's
no doubt that he's definitely struggling.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
I mean, he had that great twenty and twenty one
COVID years. Didn't he win in San Francisco?
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Yeah, he won the PGA Championship, and he's won the
Open Championship in twenty and twenty one, tied for third
at the Masters in twenty twenty four. Let's see if
they have a list of his career wins. Yeah, so
he's won he won in nineteen, he won twice in
twenty twice in twenty one. He won in twenty three
as well, and then as we said, he won the
(10:04):
Open Championship in twenty one over Jordan Speith, and he
won the PGA Championship that was the one out in
California over Paul Casey and Dustin Johnson. So like, yeah,
he's not been obviously, he hasn't won a tournaments in
a little while since twenty three.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
He has just not played great golf.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
No, Dustin Johnson, I think had a longer run of goodness.
Dustin Johnson twenty four wins on the PGA Tour. Yeah,
Dustin Johnson much better.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
No, but I'm talking about like after like after his
Master's win.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
What's he done Johnson since twenty Yeah, I don't think
he's done anything. Now.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
He's on the Live Tour, so we don't know what
all that looks like.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
He's won on the European Tour, He's won three times
on the Live Tour since then. So he Yeah, he's
just he's just playing a different He's kind of just
playing a different schedule now, is really what it is.
Although if you look at it, twenty twenty one. He
missed the cut at the Masters. He's only made the
cut twice at the Master since he's won it out
of five years, and his best finished his twelfth. He's
(11:10):
missed the cut three times. At the PGA Championship, his
best finish is forty third. US Open he's made he
missed two cuts. His best finish his tenth, and then
the Open Championship he missed cutting twenty three and was
best was tied for sixth than twenty two. So he
just hasn't But he had a really good run. I
mean it was a much longer run than more cow.
He was really good for a decade.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
So here's my this is my other takeaway from the
Open Championship. I did not know that the sun does
not go down till like ten o'clock at night.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
There. Yeah, what what? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (11:45):
I mean I have a buddy that's over there right now.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
They having a great time. The Great Coal part.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Due uh huh, not not our punter, but the great
Coal from the hooligans.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Is over there.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
He's on the eighth he's on the eighth green, around
the eighth green, and he was like, there were guys
last night, like there's a lot of complaints going on
about pace of play, and he was like, there were
guys that were still that their round took five hours forty.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Fast and saw that.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
I mean, that's just insane.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
That's way too long. Should never happen.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
I know you're walking, and I know it's the open
and you wanted every shot matters, but you're a pro.
It shouldn't take you five and a half hours to
play eighteen holes. What was the reason for it?
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Just slow play? Because wouldn't they get I feel like
they would get penalized.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Well, that's the thought was today, like they need to
police that, and they weren't very good at policing that yesterday.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Yeah, they definitely need to police that. You can't have
that kind of pace of play. That's no good. Some
updates from around the National Football League as well. TJ.
Wattas signed a three or one hundred and twenty three
million dollar extension with the Steelers with one hundred and
eight million dollars guaranteed. That is, of course one million
dollars more per year than Miles Garrett got in his contract,
and you know the Brown's getting Miles Garrett done at
(13:01):
that time. That really has impacted two deals in our division,
because both Jamar Chase and TJ. Watt now have have
gone above Miles's number, And then you have to wonder,
you know, Trey Hendrickson, who's coming off of being the
sack leader in the National Football League. TJ. Watts led
the league in sacks three of the last five years.
He's been a first team All Pro four of the
(13:23):
last six years, second team All Pro. He's been Defensive
Player of the Year as well. Back in twenty twenty one.
That year he led the league with twenty two and
a half sacks and twenty one tackles for a loss.
He's also forced thirty three fumbles in his career. So
people comparing TJ. Watt and Miles Garrett, because that's what
everybody loves to do. These are two of the very
(13:43):
best in the game. Correct, same draft class. So Miles
has twenty forced fumbles, one hundred and two and a
half sacks, one hundred and sixteen tackles for lost, two
hundred quarterback hits. What thirty three force fumbles? I know
that'll be more one hundred and eight sacks, slightly more
one hundred and twenty six tackles for last two hundred
twenty five quarterback hits. These are the two of the best,
(14:04):
two of the absolute best in the league, and they're
in our division. Then Trey Henderson's been pretty darn good
as well in our division. And you know people are
talking about, oh, that's the story where they are colluding
to keep salaries down.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
T J.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Watt and this three year extension is going to make
three years one hundred and twenty three million. His brother J. J.
Watt and his whole entire career made one hundred and
twenty nine million. Yeah, So that's how quickly the money
has changed.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
I mean, in this one, the top three highest paid
non quarterbacks in the NFL are all in the AFC North.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
It's Miles Chasing.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
What can you name the other seven in the top
ten in the league highest paid non qbs, We're already
guessing stuff at.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
One guy's really gonna love that. Dude, he's gonna go.
One guy, he's gonna love that watch golf. My guess
is if Justin Jefferson would be on there, number six,
probably Cede Lamb, yep, seven, Uh, maybe DK Metcalf number.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Nine, four from the AFC North.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
In the top ten, A J. Brown no, he doesn't
make it, okay, and then it's gonna probably be either
some I bet Patrick's artan. I don't see him on
this sass Gardner. No, that's not they're not.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
He's on the outside looking in, not high enough.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
So it's gonna have to be edge rush. It's got
to be defensive lineman and one more wide receiver, one
more wide receiver. Did they say A J. Brown? Yep,
DK METCFC D Lamb, Jefferson, Jamar Chase. Who else is
above that?
Speaker 3 (15:36):
Number ten is Garrett Wilson now, oh the nude Garrett
new deal.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Sure, at thirty two point five million a year.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Sure, and then you got on there. Let's see edges,
Daniel Hunter and number four Max Crosby, number five Nick Bosa. Yeah, yeah,
that's anybody on the interior defensive line. It's all. It's
literally all edges, edges and wide receivers. Yeah wow. Interesting.
(16:03):
Top on the interior is Chris Jones at thirty one
point seventy five, so he probably just misses.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Yes, that's what I'm looking to see. They don't they
just they stop at number ten.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Everybody stops it pretty good though. I meant AFC North
there's the four of them, four of them.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
And I don't know where Hendrickson fits in because he's
going to be on it. I don't are we sure
the Bengals are going.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
To pay him? No, I think he's going to get
paid by somebody. I think he's going to be paid somewhere.
I just don't know who or where. Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
I mean he deserves it. It's it's a lot of money.
I mean, I think t J. Watt will be just
shy of his thirty fifth birthday when this contract runs out.
I'm assuming this is probably this what keeps him here
for the rest of his career.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah, I see him pay. Well, it's one of those
things when you bring in Aaron Rodgers, it is one
hundred percent. You're all in. That's it. You're all in.
So if you're all in, you one hundred percent are
keeping t J. Watt in your program. I mean that's
just it's just that simple.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
Well, and then you go out, you get you make
that big trade with Miami where you trade Minka for
uh Ramsey and a tight end.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
John new Smith right, John Smith ye was reunited with
Arthur Smith.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
Yeah, you do that, you get t J. Watt, you
get DK Metcalf, you get Rogers like they're they're trying
to keep up with Baltimore. I think it might be
fascinating next week. Maybe do a comparison to their starting rosters. Yeah,
they're they're both impressive. But I mean it's make or
(17:52):
break for them. God do I hope they break? Just
blow up everything by the end of the year, be glorious.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
It's either good. They're either going to be really good
or it is going to be an epic disaster. They
brought a lot of older players in. They've got a
lot of age. It feels like kind of now or never.
I mean, I've seen people do like the cold Play
meme and they said the Steelers and then with nine
and eight records, Like, I've seen lots of things.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
So I mean TJ. Watts never won a playoff game?
Am I correct on that?
Speaker 2 (18:26):
You are correct? That's right. It's pretty wild as a
matter of fact.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Yeah, yeah, made the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Yes, say damp made the playoffs. Have not won a
playoff game. In fact, I'll look it up. What do
you get mea since TJ. Watt since twenty and seventeen
that year he was the thirtieth pick in that draft,
same draft as Miles. That's wild and I believe we
also took Jabrill and the Chief and the Chief in
that draft. You are correct.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
The Stealers been in the playoffs price six five times.
There were a couple of times a couple of years
they didn't make it. Remember they beat us the one
year and then they still got knocked out of the playoffs,
which was great.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
The last year that the Steelers won a game in
the playoffs was two thousand and sixteen. Good that year
they beat the Miami Dolphins and wild card. They beat
the Chiefs in the divisional round, and then they lost
to the New England Patriots thirty six to seventeen in
the conference championship game. That was in sixteen, and then
since then they have not won a playoff game. In seventeen,
(19:36):
they lost to the Jags forty five forty two in Pittsburgh.
In eighteen, they did not make the playoffs. In nineteen
they did not make the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
They had winning records the whole time, or.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
At least not losing. They were nine to six and
one in eighteen, didn't make the playoffs eight and eight
in nineteen didn't make playoffs. Twenty they made the playoffs
and they lost to the Cleveland Browns forty eight to
thirty seven. That's the only time I've ever seen a victor,
so I haven't seen one in person. Nope. In Pittsburgh
twenty twenty one, make the playoffs, they lose to the
Chiefs forty two to twenty one. Twenty two, they do
(20:13):
not make the playoffs. They go nine to eight. Twenty
three that was the year. Though they make the playoffs,
they lose to the Bills thirty one to seventeen. They
go nine to eight or ten and seven twenty four.
Last year they make the playoffs and they lose the
Ravens twenty eight to fourteen. I didn't think it was
that close. That game was gross, I remember so. No. Yeah,
they have not won a playoff game since two thousand
(20:34):
and sixteen. Some news in the state of Ohio on Thursday,
the Ohio School Athletic Association OSHA announced is it osa
It can't be OSHA, no, but I always I feel
like that's how I've heard it pronounced, Ohsha sh Yeah,
well osha, yeah, they say it the OSHA. That's out,
(20:54):
but it should be the Osa. Yeah. Okay, maybe because
it's school so they're.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Like, call out the Ohio High School Athletic Association, shout out,
Tim Street, hope you're well.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Announced that they've sanctioned girls high school flag football in
the state of Ohio, making Ohio the seventeenth state to
sanction the sport across the United States. Over the last
five years, the Browns have played a pivotal role in
working towards the sanctioning of girls flag football and Ohio.
Kevin Sefanski Brown said coach was there for the announcement
down in Canton, and here's what the owners, Jimmy and
d Haslam had to say. Quote. The decision to officially
sanctioned girls flag football Ohio is an important moment, not
(21:27):
just for the Browns, but for the entire state of
Ohio and the game we love. We have seen firsthand
how powerful the game of football can be in shaping confidence, leadership,
and community, and we are proud that more young women
will have the chance to experience that same growth. When
we launched our Girls High School Flag Football League in
twenty twenty one, the goal was to get to this day,
but it wouldn't have been possible without the continuous work
of athletes, coaches, administrators, and parents who all believe in
the future of this sport. We want to thank the OSHAP,
(21:49):
the Cincinnati Bengals, and the NFL for their partnership and
bringing this to life as we continue to grow the
game for girls across the state.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Thankyfrey O Munjos talked after coach. Really, it was like,
there's a lot of Bengals fans here and a lot
of Bengals, so give me a hoo day. And I
was like, you can go back to Northern Kentucky, pal,
I don't care if you got a yellow jacket the
hell out of here with that.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Yeah, there was only one left tackle day. There's only
one left tackle we care about up here is named
off exactly.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
But no, it's an awesome day, you know. I mean
I told my I told my youngest daughter, who's out
of high school now and in college, and she was like,
why couldn't you get this done earlier? She looked at me.
I was like, I did, I had nothing to do
with this. Yeah, but she's like, I would have played.
That would have been awesome. I would have loved every
minute of that. So I'm very excited I think it's
(22:42):
gonna be great. This organization has done a great job
of getting behind it. Coach Stefanski has been one of
the biggest cheerleaders for it. Yeah, so I know Greg
Newsom's an ambassador for it. I just it's it's very,
very cool. All the hard work Jenner ta Kansk and
her staff handle Yeah, have done behind the scenes to
(23:02):
grow this and get to get it to this point.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
I think it's gonna be great. I did. I love it.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
I think it's it's good for the sport. It's good
for it's good for the ladies that want to play football.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Yeah, it's great.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
What it is.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Get the opportunity. Let's go, let's go. All right. When
we come back, we're gonna go through the thirty two
head coaches ranked in the NFL ahead of the twenty
twenty five season, divided into three tiers by CBS Sports
Cody Benjamin. Coming up, we got around the sports rore
a little mailbag, some leftovers from yesterday if people want
to keep. We also have an AIW Absolution preview. That's right.
(23:37):
Absolution is tonight. It will be my first time back
at AIW since I last year at Absolution alongside of
the great Tom Lawler, Josh Bishop, and Sam Holloway defeated
Jeff Jarrett, the Hall of Famer. We just celebrated a
birthday recently, real text exchange on his birthday, the giant
Sattanham Singh seven foot four, and of course members Dabroni's
(24:00):
right want to no baby. This was my first time back,
though every every time they had a show I was
out of town for some reason, from basically like the
last year or we went to We're in football season obviously,
so I'm very excited to be back tonight. I'm calling
the main event. Eric Taylor, who I tabbed is the
future of the company, said he's like a young Shawn Michaels.
He is in the main event defending his championship against
Chuck stone who's kind of like Stone Cold. He's got that,
(24:22):
he's popular. Eric betrayed him. They've been best friends in
real life since their kids, and this is gonna be
the culmination of their feuds. So that's gonna be a
big one. I'm very excited about that. And then Maserati
Wes Barkley Isaiah Broner for the intense title tonight. That'll
be good PM defending these well.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
I saw I saw the announcement that you were returning
my return, and a lot of people like, are you wrestling, No,
not wrestling, just there're.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Gonna do a little man led that charge. Yeah, to
see you a little commentary. Never say never in this business.
I feel like I'm you know, feel like if your
wife might say otherwise, I'd like Luca to see me
wrestle once. I don't think your wife's signing up for that.
I think she's we We've been there, We've done that.
It's on video. You can show the boy later on
in life. Oh, he's already watched it. He's a big fan.
(25:11):
He's seen that. He's seen the uh the Blue Angels.
And then this morning I did actually an interview on
a O Pedman show. The Pedman wasn't on with him
on my chest watching the open and he was great.
Didn't make it, didn't even make a noise. It was fantastic.
It's a smart boy. He's good the good boy. He
gets it, he gets understands what's going on. Oh man,
(25:32):
I just saw the worst Cold Play meme I've ever seen.
Right now, I.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
Unbelieve by the way I thought that might die down.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Not. I mean it is something to become the biggest
story in humanity when there's a lot going on right
now that are quite big stories. It's pretty incredible.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
Yeah yeah, uh yeah, it's just and it seems like
someone we've gone through some of the uh some of
the better ones we've in the last couple of days.
But I mean it's pretty it's not great like you
just I mean, obviously this is uh, this is affecting
two families pretty drastically. Yes, uh, yeah it I don't
(26:16):
know if the statement from the guy that wasn't real
no that no, it has to be an AI generate.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
That's nothing. Nothing is real. Nothing's real on social media.
This is actually real, but nothing is real. Yes, keep
that in your mind. All right. We'll come back, take
a look at the coach rankings and our number two.
We're gonna hear from a Jeremy Fowler as well. We
got more guessing for the people, which I know they
love as well. We're going to finish out our all
century team with the first twenty five years with that roster.
We got to get our specialists in there. And then
(26:44):
Sam Monson recapping the Browns draft and free agency. We're
gonna have that for you, kind of just set things
up as we get ready for training camp next week.
Here you're listening to Clean Brown's Daily, brought to you by

Insurance and Pet Supplies Plus All Right, Gibbe, we have
(27:55):
got right now. CBS Sports Cody Benjamin ranking all thirty
two head coaches in the nf L ahead of the
twenty twenty five season. They're divided into three tiers.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
What are the tiers? So there are three tiers? Knowing
full well, these men have a chance to write or
rewrite their own true stories when the games begin this year.
Tier three is unproven or underwhelming. Scrolling down, scrolling down,
where's the next tier? Tier two are serviceable veterans?
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (28:32):
And Tier one is the cream.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Of the crop serviceable? That's Tier one is cream of
the crop. All right? How many people in tier one?
Speaker 3 (28:44):
In Tier one? There are twelve the dirty dozen?
Speaker 2 (28:50):
Alright, twelve twelve, Andy Reid ken McVeigh, This part stinks.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
We should have printed this. Yeah reading it my bed,
my rock, my sincere apologies.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
And you read I didn't look at it, but Andy
Reid McVeigh.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
Kyle Kyle is number seven.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
Dan, I don't care about numbers. I just want to
get him the tears. Dan Campbell, Yes. Sean Payton, I no,
so he's in the service. Oh no, Sean Payton is eleven.
Yeah so Sean Payne Yeah. Uh harba uh which harbor?
(29:36):
John yes, McDermott, yes, Sirianni Yes, let me say four more? Oh,
Kevin O'Connell yes, o connell lafleur, Yes. I don't think
(30:06):
they would put Todd Bowles in here. Stefanski No, No,
so he's in serviceable vets yes, came coach of the year.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Yep, he is number thirteen, just on the outside.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Okay, give me the give me like conference or division.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Two of them left. They're both in the AFC. One
is in the West and one is in our division.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Other Harbor. Yep, Tomlin, there you go. Yeah, all right,
that wasn't too hard.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
So Reid is one McVeigh two, John Harbaugh number three, Yep,
high or lower?
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Just right. For Harbaugh, we'll do a special. I think
that I I would probably put him a little lower.
I think Dan Campbell, I mean, he's just so good.
These guys are. They're the cream of the crop, cream
of the crop. Kyle would be way up there for me.
Harbor would be way up there. I mean, just won
the super Bowl. He's got to be up there.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
I get Sirianni, he's got to be up there because
he won the Super Bowl. Kevin o'conf I if I
need a coach to win one game on this first page,
which is Reid McVeigh, Harbaugh, Sirianni Campbell, Harbaugh, and Shanahan,
which one am I leaving out? Say again, so there's
these seven guys, Reid McVeigh, both Harbaugh's, Sirianni Campbell, and Shanahan.
(31:38):
What's the one I don't want if I have to
win one game.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
This is probably gonna sound weird to you, but it
would probably come down between heart, John Harbaugh and Dan Campbell.
I'm not in Dan Campbell for me, and the reason
is they're like in the Motivator, Jim Harby. I don't
know how much involved he is it with the offense,
but you want like Reid's doing the game plan, mcvay's
(32:06):
doing the game plan. Shannahan's doing the game plan, Sirian,
he's doing the game plan like you want those guys.
I think in that one game situation, like Campbell unbelievable leader,
man Harbaugh is as well, but he's not like running
He's not the game plan guy.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Like you would constantly. You would not have John Harbaugh
be one of.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
The He's in there, but you're saying, like, who, if
I might the seven guys, which one do you not
want if you have to win one game? I don't
now I want all of them. I would probably say
Jim Harbaugh would be the one that I would put
on the outs, okay, and I would keep John Campbell
in all right, But my first four choices from this
list would be Reid McVeigh, Shanahan, and Sirianni because they're
(32:49):
one involved with the they're doing the game plan.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Uh So Shanahan is seventh. Yep, Matt Lafleur is eighth,
Kevin O'Connell is ninth. High or lower just right. For O'Connell, I.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Think he's probably higher, honestly, I mean, if they do
it again this year, you see every ever they were
great with Sam Darnold, great with Cousins. Now you've got
an opportunity here with you know, see what he can
do with JJ McCarthy. But yes, absolutely, Okay, Tomlin is ten.
Of all the of the twelve coaches, the one that
(33:30):
doesn't belong in my opinion is Peyton does not belong. Yeah.
I don't know how you can say that, man.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
If I'm basing it on, I can't even do that
because I just killed my own argument.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
I was gonna say Key quarterback took him straight to
the playoffs, He's won a Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Tomlin's never had a losing record. Gross pains me, No.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
But he's again see again, Peyton to me, is more
involved in the game land than Tomlin is. Tomlin's again
a great leader of men, like there should be that
should be the category should be like the leaders of men.
The you know, if you're really breaking it down, like
the elite leaders of men, and that's going to be Campbell, Harbaugh,
(34:18):
probably both, Tomlin. You know that's a different style coach
than than a Reed McVeigh, Shanahan, Siriani.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
I would flip flop, all right, we make the argument
for Peyton. I would take McDermott at twelve and flip
him with Lafloor.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Moving who up?
Speaker 3 (34:41):
I would flip. I would move McDermott up to eight
and la Floor to twelve. I think will Floor of
the of these twelve guys, he could be number twelve.
Who's number twelve on your list?
Speaker 2 (34:53):
I mean Jim Harbaugh for sure, not sixth, Like no, no,
that's very early for him. I mean this week you
get Lafloor's record as a head coach in the NFL
is sixty seven and thirty three, sixty seven and thirty three.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
Well he won, like did they go like fifteen and
one or fourteen to two for like two or three
straight regular seasons.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Jim Harbaugh's records fifty five and twenty five and one
and he's been pretty darn good too. Yeah. Laflor's records
thirteen and three, thirteen and three, thirteen and four, eight, nine,
nine and eight, eleven and six.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Maybe Tomlin's twelve.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Tomlin would be based on like recent recent win well,
I mean that's only recent. I mean Tomlin's very very good.
All those one percentage is lower. But he hasn't had
a winning percentage of sixty percent or more. He's had
a sixty percent or better winning percentage in a season
once once. That was twenty twenty. Once since twenty seventeen,
(35:59):
only once.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
So that's the that's the dirty dozen. And then you've
got serviceable veterans Tier two.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Tomlin eight and eleven in the playoffs in his career.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
That's maybe he's the twelfth. Maybe he should be number twelve,
he'd be twelve, and then and then you put Jim
Harball eleven, sure, okay, and then figure it out from there.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Uh. Stefanski is thirteen, Yep, Bowls is going to be
right there somewhere, number nineteen. Demech O Ryan's is going
to be in there somewhere.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
He's fifteen, Yeah, dan Quinn fourteen, dan Quinn sure, Mike
Vrabel sixteen. Yeah, Pete Carroll seventeen, Zach Taylor eighteen. Are
we sure about that?
Speaker 2 (36:40):
I'm not sure about that. I don't know. No, I'm
not sure about that. Mike McDaniel is twentieth. He would
have been in the top twelve a couple of years ago.
He was eleventh last year. Yeah exactly.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Is that a make or break year for him?
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Yeah? There, it feels like that whole kind of operation
is hanged. Peter Ounce, Yeah, I think it really does.
I might have Rabel. I might well.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Quinn's coming off the year that he had, so I
get it, and Rabel's, you know, Vrabel's been out.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
For a year. I don't know. Are we sure Zach
Taylor is as good as everybody thinks? All about that?
Speaker 4 (37:23):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (37:23):
Tier three the unproven or underwhelming. And his comment is,
as long as these coaches are employed, they have a
chance to redeem themselves. As we stand, however, they've either
yet to prove their staying power or struggled to build
a promising program.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
This is to be all the new coaches.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
I disagree with Number twenty one Mike McDonald in Seattle. Yeah,
i'd see it's ten and seven.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Last year. Yeah, but I don't think he's ready to
say he's a I think if he does it for
another year, then he goes up pretty easily. Yeah. Stich
In is twenty two. Yeah, Canalis canals from Carolina.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
A nice will run at the end.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
That it's gonna be Liam Cohen.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
I mean, Ben Johnson is the one to.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Watch, Ben Johnson.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Where's Rahee Morris twenty seven?
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Yea not great, but Falcons not great with ten months?
Speaker 3 (38:16):
No, Aaron Glenn, I mean the new ones are all
at the.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
End, it's all the new ones. I think Aaron Glen
day Ball's thirtieth. No love, no love, Yeah, no love
at all, No love at all. All right. Quick update
from the Open. Matt Fitzpatrick now up two shots. He
is ten under par. That's pretty darn good. Mat Fitzpatrick,
(38:42):
pull him up real fast. That seems to be so.
He won obviously a US Open, won the US Open.
He's got ten professional wins, two on the PGA Tour,
nine on the European Tour. He is he won the
US Open in twenty two. Twenty two. Is best finish
in the Open Championship is a tie for twentieth back
(39:03):
in twenty nineteen. He just came.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
He just bogi, So he's back to nine. Yeah, yep,
threw up a five on a par four fourteen.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
All right, so it's still but still he's in the
lead by one.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Yeah, I mean, I mean it's him and Harmony. He's
still on the field, Harmon. There's a couple of Scheffler.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Scheffler still seven under everybody else, And it's interesting most
of the guys on this list had played already. The
teisitions were much easiest. Morning Lee Westwood got it to
three under at a boy leave Westwood sixty nine and
then a set followed it backed up with the seventy. Yeah.
The only guys in near the top that are still
out on the course right now are Christopher Retan from Norway.
(39:48):
He is four four on fifteen. Matthew Jordan is even
today through sixteen, Scheffler four day through eleven, and Fitzpatrick
five hundre through fourteen, struggling, Yeah, Ron even today, Shane
Lowry even today. It's much they're playing in much tougher conditions,
(40:09):
much tougher conditions. You're not seeing anybody. What's great about
this is on the weekend, like on Sunday, they'll probably
be done by like two three.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Yeah, that's what that's usually how it goes. Yeah, yeah,
I think it's interesting. I mean, Xander Schaffy Evening just
can't can't get it going through eleven. He's on the
twelfth now, all.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Right, so there it is. All right. When we come back,
we're gonna go a little bit around. We'll take some questions,
take some questions from the mail back as we wrap
up here in our number one, you listen to Clute
Browns Daily. The quarterbacks and the rookies have reported football
is right around the corner. Clute Browns Day presented by Ballely,
beneficial sports beanting partner of your Cleveland Browns.

any those drum sticks? Today?
Speaker 3 (41:35):
I did not I ate the sticky meatballs. Those are great,
were fantastic me.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Balls are good. Drum sticks, b ROSSI was making fun
of me because I had two drum sticks, a chicken breast,
and I think four meatballs, and he thought that was
what we talked about that.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
We talked about this your diet and how you approached
the inn min fasting and I'm hungry. You gotta go
protein heavy, protein.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
Heavy, throw a little bit of grain in their little
rice in there. But yeah, that's how we do. Is
it all right? You said you had some uh, we'll
go around sports real quick, and then you said you
had some things for us. We've given you the updates
on the Open Championship. Nothing, unfortunately, has changed since then.
Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy Nunce Company is partnering with
Fox Sports. This is big, so we saw all those
shows get canceled. The breakfast Ball facility and speak for this.
(42:21):
Portnoy will be an analyst on Fox's Big Noon kickoff
and and Big Cat Cats will make some appearances on
the show. Bars will have a new daily morning show
on FS one from eight to ten am. The content
of that show was still to be determined that'll be interesting.
They've tried to take barstool to network before, did not work. Well. No,
(42:41):
they have a huge following. I like a lot of
their stuff, big fan of Big Cats.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
So well, that maybe involve Gruden a little more.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
You would think, so, right, yeah, you would think so, yeah,
we'll see, we'll see. Definitely interest thing.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
Yeah, I think I I am excited for and I'm
an Ohio State guy route for Ohio State. But having
a villain like Portnoy from Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan like,
because there's not a whole lot that goes on that
(43:23):
pregame show when they're live from Columbus or from ann Arbor.
Now with Portnoy versus Urban, I mean, let's.
Speaker 5 (43:33):
Go, I know, versus that team.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
I don't even know what that means.
Speaker 5 (43:41):
What is Urban seven and zero against that team? Oh yeah,
So Portnoy's gotten no room to talk and I don't
want anything to do with that.
Speaker 3 (43:49):
I love it. I'm here for all of it. I mean,
I want to be entertained on Saturday morning. It's a rivalry, like,
let's go.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
Michigan hasn't loss.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
And I don't think we actually have to travel this
year they we actually get to we get to we
get to say.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Like that's like saying like the when Brown said, Jim Brown,
they won a lot of championships.
Speaker 5 (44:09):
I mean yeah, but Portner can't say anything to him
because he beat them every single year that he was there,
so he can't say anthing.
Speaker 2 (44:14):
To Urban Calm Dally very angry.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
That was all.
Speaker 5 (44:18):
Relax, brother, I'm all out on that game day all
day for me.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
I like both. I like to dabble in both. Why
would you say the back and forth?
Speaker 5 (44:29):
It's not going to be back and forth that's entertaining.
It's going to be it's not gonna be scintillating television.
That's for sure.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
We'll see. I'm not a barsool guy. If you can
tell sorry about it?
Speaker 3 (44:43):
keV uh from Bobby?
Speaker 2 (44:48):
How Bobby? Yesterday?
Speaker 3 (44:50):
I told Bobby, I go, hey, sad to miss the mailbag,
gonna lock in for the season. I said, send me
some questions. We'll get to him. Still got time? How
was bgs you Gibbs not defending his guide to Marius
Randall back in his run with Cleveland. Gibbey was ready
to put him on the All Browns team. I needn't
know how Gibby isn't backing his guy.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
False. I like that. I like that. Good. Yes, why
aren't you backing her? Fake news? Bobby? Why aren't you
backing your guy? I had nothing to do with that,
and we know that. Okay, you know that. I know that. True.
Fair enough, There you go. I don't really have any
other things right now. It's quiet. All's quiet. That's it.
(45:35):
Have we tell you said you had some mailbags?
Speaker 3 (45:37):
I thought I did. I thought I did. I'm not
seeing them though. They're not popping up in my my
little ditty here. Yeah, I don't have I don't have
anything else right now.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
It's all right.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
We got time like in hour two. I I haven't argued.
We're going to talk specialist for the All quarter Century team,
just so we're clear. I I'm ready to come at
you with some things. What do you mean, well, you
want to put like two punters on?
Speaker 2 (46:14):
No, we changed that yesterday. We put because we put
five safeties on. We'll have room for three. We only
have room for three people now, which is going to
be a longtime. There's lots of options and the kicker.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
There are more options than you think for the punter
position and I love the great coal, but I'm just
saying there are other options.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
Of course, are Corey Morcis has been awesome, holds a
lot of records, gets Acidil. Yeah, there's a ton of
great guys, yes, Andy Lee, Andy Lee and great golfer.
Speaker 3 (46:46):
Yeah, maybe on the Mount rushmore of players that golf.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
I mean, Noah, it's been Spencer Lanning.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
Lanning simply because he got trucked in Pittsburgh. No, not
because he's a great guy. I love Spencer Landing. Wasn't
he was he at the Hoffs party? He was at
the hostage. Okay, I thought that. I thought that that
actually happened.
Speaker 2 (47:07):
Yeah, I mean, listen, this is this one is gonna
be this is it's our list. It's our list. I
wanted to do two punters. But if we're only gonna
do one, I think you know where I'm gonna go. Yeah,
I get it. There's no reason not to.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
All Right, Well, it's fine our one of the books.
We'll take more of your questions at Brown's Underscore Daily
you YouTube chat j Max monitoring that.
Speaker 2 (47:29):
Look there's they're showing Luke Flory arrive. The Browns are
sweet down. If you looked in the background at the
very beginning of the video. Who was there, Denzel Ward?
So I'm talking about guys everywhere. He's ready to go.
I love it.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
I don't know if Jordan jam did you send me some.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
I absolutely love it.
Speaker 3 (47:46):
I don't know if you did some left doors. This
is riveting radio. We got going on.
Speaker 2 (47:52):
Yes, good job, give back, all right, this is what
we're gonna do. We're gonna take raak, We're gonna come back.
It's gonna be our number two. We'll get questions, feel
free to hit us up. We're gonna go through the
top ten defensive ends, top ten tight ends in the
league as well. I feel like I'll be pretty good
at both of those. And uh, that's what we're gonna do.
And we're gonna get Sam monson talking about the Browns offseason,
setting you up, getting ready for their return, because when
(48:15):
we come back next week, it's on Tuesday, Veterans Report,
it is on Let's go. Let's go all right. By
the way, Also, congrats to uh Jersey Jerry broke one
hundred for the first time on the golf course s
out of ninety seven. Hey, congrats it that's a big moment. Man.
I remember the first time. Yeah, I remember what I
(48:37):
shot the first round of golf. Ier played one hundred
and forty four.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
I think I was about one twenty five, So maybe
I actually one time I've improved and I yeah, I
have a little bit.
Speaker 2 (48:50):
I like you love it. Here we go, all right,
our number two, Cleon Brown's Daily come your way right
after this.
Speaker 1 (49:08):
Cleveland Browns Daily, presented by Bally Bett, an official sports
betting partner of your Cleveland Browns, on eight fifty ESP
and Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
All right, welcome into our number two of Cleveland Brown's Daily.
The Browns rookies and quarterbacks reporting today. Quinn Shawn Judkins
remains unsigned. He will not be reporting today to the
Cleveland Browns as he deals with his legal matter. Updates
from the Open Championship for you right now. The finest
of all the majors, Matt Fitzpatrick now is through fifteen
(49:52):
remains one shot above Harmon and Lee. Scottie Scheffler in
fourth by himself at seven under through twelve holes. I
see Scotty get up there. I'd like to see Scotty
get to the final group tomorrow. I like se him
get to nine would be great, But at least get
to like eight. He's right where he needs to do,
right where he needs to be.
Speaker 3 (50:09):
I mean, I'm alright, I'm alright. Tomorrow's moving day.
Speaker 2 (50:12):
Yeah, tomorrow's moving day. That's right. So yeah, let's see
how this goes. By the way, speaking of golf shows, up,
we've stuck with stick the Owen Wilson one. It's pretty good.
I'm enjoying it. I've heard the opposite, so at first
I didn't really like it, and now I like it.
Owen Wilson's great. Okay, some of the sidekicks are terrible,
some of them are good. And they just this last one.
(50:33):
They had cameos, they'd Kegan Bradley, they got like some
of the some of the pros there got Nance really
Nance and Immelman do the commentary for his first tour event,
for Sante's first tour event. So it's not bad. It's
not bad.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
How many episodes ten?
Speaker 2 (50:46):
Okay. I just did watch though the other night when
Miss Kay went out to the concert because she can't write.
Now she's like with the new one. She can't watch
anything stressful. So it's like season three of Squid Games,
the final season. I love that show and I watched
the second episode and it was one hour of just
like John the Floor, really tough watch, tough but good,
(51:12):
very well done, but tough, very tough watch, very tough watch.
Oh nice, all right, get back, let's get into it
right now.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
Yeah, you wanna have a little We're going through all
the ESPN stuff with Jeremy Fowler. Okay, Execs Coaches Scouts
ranked the NFL's top ten edge our Buddy's favorite segment
for twenty twenty five. Yes, it's also a lot of
money invested in these ten spots.
Speaker 2 (51:34):
Yep uh.
Speaker 3 (51:38):
Miles was number one.
Speaker 2 (51:40):
I think I can I think this, I think this,
I think you can do this one. All right, so
Miles tj y number two. Hendrickson. Where is Hendrickson Parsons
yep uh. Nick Bosa, Yes, crushed it so far. Daniel Hunter,
(52:07):
Daniel Hunter. I'm nervous because of the injury, but I
think he'll still be there. Aiden Hutchinson, he's in Okay,
that's that's seven or that's yeah, seven for seven. He
is seventh and he is seventh. Yeah. Now it gets
a little bit hard because I think there's a lot
of guys in a very similar area here. Uh, Khalil
(52:30):
Mack not not in the top ten. Honorable mention, uh.
Speaker 3 (52:36):
No, also receiving votes.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
Okay, Josh Allen of the Jags, Josh Heines Allen also
receiving votes. Yes, thank you, Will Anderson, he's in the
top ten. Okay, number eight, all right, Will Anderson. Joey Bosa. No,
(53:01):
it feels like a reach. The kid from the Rams,
Jared Verse number ten. Okay, just give me, give me
a little hint on the number nine guy, so you
can keep it moving along. No, no, you're fine. Um,
I don't think you said him. I clearly did same
some same. Give me a give me a team or
(53:22):
not team? Give me an oh, Max Crosby, there you go, Yeah,
no doubt.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
I was like, so their rankings had Miles one, t J.
Watt two, Micah Parsons three.
Speaker 2 (53:33):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
It's just gotta be loving all the contracts being dulled
out to edge rushers for him. Uh Max Crosby four,
Bosa five, Hendrickson six, Hutchinson seven, Anderson eight, Daneil hunter
is nine, Verse is ten.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
Honorable mention Brian Burns Okay, Nick Bonito, Yeah, Nick Benito, boy,
he was impressive last year. Oh my god, against that's
that picks was nuts.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
Yeah. Jonathan Grenard went from the from the Texans where
he was very good into Minnesota was very good last year.
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Absolutely, And George carloftis from the Chiefs receiving boats. Was
Heinz Allen Khalil mack Rashaun, Gary Trayvon Walker, Montez Sweat,
Greg Rousseau, Chop Robinson. Okay, okay, all right, good group,
top of the top man, good group, good group.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
All right. Now you have the tight ends. What do
you got?
Speaker 3 (54:36):
We're gonna do one offensive and one.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
Defensive, you tight ends? Kelsey.
Speaker 3 (54:46):
Yeah, but I had to go all the way down
to Laporta.
Speaker 2 (54:49):
Yes. McBride, uh, he's definitely on there. McBride is four,
thank you. He is definitely on there. Bowers, yes, number
one on the list. It doesn't surprise me at all.
(55:11):
Kittle yes, Mark andrews Ah yes, sixth ye Hockinson yep.
Speaker 3 (55:23):
Still amazing that that trade happened, Vikings Lions. It worked
out for both both.
Speaker 2 (55:28):
Yeah. Now is where it's gonna get tough. My guess
is because it's last year. I mean Chief should be
on there. He's number ten. Chief. Okay, So that's for
we have eight I think.
Speaker 3 (55:41):
In terms of people for this football team's success this year,
he's probably one of the five.
Speaker 2 (55:50):
H See. Now, I got like a cluster of like Goddard,
Evan Ingram Okay, Goddard is nine was it? Andw Smith
because of the year he had last year. No, No.
Speaker 3 (56:05):
Jake Ferguson getting votes, same with John new Smith and
not Evan Ingram getting votes. Okay, zach Ertz, Nope, someone
in our division get Sicky Nope.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
The second tight end from the Ravens likely there you go, wow, wow,
all right, So that's the ten about that.
Speaker 3 (56:39):
So one was brock Bauers ye, Two was Kittle, Yeah,
three Laporta yeah, four McBride five Kelsey.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
He just had it down your list, Yeah, getting.
Speaker 3 (56:51):
Older six, Andrews seven, Hockinson eight, likely nine, Goddard ten,
Najoku that is wild. Yeah, honorable mention, Dalton Kincaid, Dalton Kincaid.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
I think he's gonna have a big bounce back here.
That's from an AFC scout.
Speaker 2 (57:09):
Okay, he's Look, he's super talented and they drafted him
to be a big part of what they're doing. Scheffler
eight under by the way, just Birdie thirteen, let's go.
You knew he was gonna get it.
Speaker 3 (57:20):
Friar Mouth Honorable mention, Hunter Henry honorable mention. Well then
Ingram Comet Ferguson.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
Kate had forty four cats for four and forty eight
yards last year and was not even he's not a blocker.
I mean, you want a guy who's a pure receiver.
I have an Ingram. I guess only played nine games
last year, but certainly on a per game basis, was better.
He's gonna get down to see him. He got hurt
in that game against US. Yeah, he got hurt against US,
and so then Goddard got hurt against US. Yeah. Yeah,
(57:52):
lookout for the tight ends, all right.
Speaker 3 (57:53):
Also receiving votes, by the way, Dalton Schultz, yep, Tucker Craft,
your guy, Kyle Pitts, Juwan Johnson, zach Ertz.
Speaker 2 (58:03):
Zach Ertz had a much better season than I think
a lot of people realized last year. Like, what do
you think given will do a classic? Give a guess
the stats for Ertz?
Speaker 3 (58:13):
Yeah, well, you just said you think he had a
better year, So I'm gonna say. I'm going to say
nine hundred yards.
Speaker 2 (58:20):
Receiving Now that's high six and fifty four sixty six
six fifty four and seven touchdowns at the age of
thirty four.
Speaker 3 (58:28):
Pretty good. That's pretty darn good. I mean, that's better
than Kyle Pitt.
Speaker 2 (58:32):
No.
Speaker 3 (58:32):
Yeah, forty seven for six oh two and four touches. Like,
what's going on with that guy?
Speaker 2 (58:37):
He's an enigma, dude. Just it's it's it has never
been what people thought it was going to be. Unfortunately.
I mean his.
Speaker 3 (58:47):
If I'm let me pull up his numbers here. So
four years in the league, twenty one his best year
sixty eight grabs for one thousand yards but only had
one touchdown.
Speaker 2 (59:01):
Was his ricky year? Yeah, yeah, of course.
Speaker 3 (59:03):
Twenty two he played only ten games, had twenty eight catches.
Now he play, He's played every He's played a full
season for three of four years in twenty three fifties
three grams for six six seven and three touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (59:17):
It's wild man.
Speaker 3 (59:19):
Last year forty seven for six oh two and four.
Speaker 2 (59:24):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
I guess he's consistent. I don't know if that's consistent.
Speaker 2 (59:28):
Good.
Speaker 3 (59:28):
Yeah, pretty rough is what it is.
Speaker 2 (59:34):
It is, pretty wild.
Speaker 3 (59:36):
Yeah, I don't I don't know. Very very strange.
Speaker 2 (59:42):
He and when you see him, he just looks like
he should just be so dominant, he's so big, he's like,
I think he had a decent run at the end.
I want to see with watching quarterback and you see
him and you make some of some of the plazy
makes and you're like, oh my god, this guy should
be so good and just never really it just never
has really happened. I don't look at his game looks because
(01:00:04):
when Pennix came in on the end, I know he
had a couple of good games down the stretch, at
least I remember. I know he scored a touchdown. Maybe
that's all it was, Yeah, the one against Washington, four
for forty four. So no, he didn't really come on.
He had a nice stretch in the middle of the season.
He went seven for eighty eight against Tampa, three for
seventy against Carolina, seven for sixty five against Seattle, four
for ninety one, and two touchdowns against Tampa. So he
had like that real nice stretch in the middle. And
(01:00:25):
then Cousins gets hurt I think against New Orleans, and
then that's it and then they go like into the
tank after that, and then Cousins ends up getting benched,
So watching that, Kirk Cousins actually got significantly hurt and
tried to play through it with his shoulder and elbow.
And that's why his play because he was playing. Cousins
was playing well prior to that game. Those are the
(01:00:47):
things that really jumped out to me just how well
he was playing before that. So, Kirk Cousins last year
prior to that Saints game, because that's when he gets
hurt and they lose a game that they should have won.
Prior to that Saints game, Kirk Cousins threw three four, eight, nine, ten,
(01:01:09):
fourteen seventeen touchdowns with seven picks. He had a game
where he threw for five hundred and nine yards. He
was over like basically two forty two thirty every game,
and his last three games before that, or his last
actually his last five games before the injury at seven, eight, nine,
thirteen touchdowns and three picks, like he was hot. And
(01:01:31):
then he gets the injury against the ORNs, thows for
three or six after and then the next week throws
for like a buck seven and then it was just
he was not same he after that injury. In the
next four games, he throws no touchdowns and eight picks.
Give him credit for playing through it, but man not great.
Speaker 3 (01:01:47):
Yeah, but did he hurt well, he hurt himself more
than he helped himself.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Oh apparently so apparently so. All right, when we come back,
we're gonna get to the specialists and recap the Browns
quarter a few quarter centuries plus. We got a few questions,
and then we're gonna hear from Sam monson. You're listening
to cleveand Browns Daily, brought to you by bally Bete,
official sports betting partner of your Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 1 (01:02:18):
Cleveland Browns Daily presented by bally bett An, official sports
betting partner of your Cleveland Browns on a fifty esp
and Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
Elk and Elk, serious lawyers for serious injuries called one
eight hundred Elk Ohio for your free case review. Elk
and Elk is a proud partner of the Cleveland Browns.
Go Browns. All right, Gibby, you got some questions or
do you want to get into the specialist.
Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
I do have a question on our YouTube channel from
Jammac over there, Jermaine Houston. Until everything gets sorted out,
how do you think the Browns addressed the running back depth?
If you haven't talked about it, and congrats again on
the new family edition, Z.
Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
Who gets the reps next week? First practice on Wednesday?
Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
Jerome Ford? Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
And then is it Samson or is it Pierre Strong?
Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
Then I think it would be Samson. I think Jerome
Ford would be the first guy up. I mean, Jerome
Ford was should be serviceable much of the season, was
your leading running back last year, he was your starter.
Jerome Ford averaged five point four yards of carry last year.
He had a long run of sixty five yards. He
had a long run of sixty nine the year before that.
(01:03:33):
He just he hits big runs. He does that. He's
got I think four runs of over sixty yards in
his time here with the Cleveland Browns on just three
hundred and sixteen carries. So he's a big play guy.
You know, he can catch the ball well. Also eighty
one receptions over the last two years. So I think
he would be the guy that would be your starter.
And then, you know, as we talked about Dylan Samson,
very talented player, has a chance I think, as we mentioned,
(01:03:54):
you know, in this situation to really kind of cement himself.
He's going to get a lot more reps and he's
an explosive, explosive player, the SEC offensive player there again,
I'll say SEC Offensive player of the year. You can't
be the SEC Offensive Player of the year in that
conference if you don't have talent, and he clearly has talent.
Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
Yeah, I'm excited to see what he can bring.
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
Yeah, I mean, listen, Judkins was looked like he was
going to be a stud everything that we've seen, and
obviously we hope that, you know, everything resolves itself, justice
has served and the football will come after that. But
he was going to be a big part of what
the Browns did. There's no doubt about it in my mind.
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
Yeah, that's that's why this is tough on so many
different levels. Not it's bigger than football, Yep, I get it,
but I mean that's it right now. Him not being
here opens up opportunities for other players, Yes, and Dylan Samson.
The floor is yours, Pierre Strong like in a kind
(01:05:02):
of a make or break year.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Yeah, I mean, and for for him it's gonna be right.
He's fighting to make this team. That's the bottom, that's
what he's trying to go. So we'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:05:17):
Yeah, I don't know, uh, let's talk specialists. Okay, final
grouping for our all quarter century two. Yeah, here we
go the specialists. All right, do we have the you
you should somewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
There's a lot of good papers over here from a
lot of paperwork. There we go. All right, the kicker,
The kicker is easy. And you know, during this time
we've had d Hop Kadie York, Austin Cybert, Chase McLaughlin,
Travis Coonzane Gonzalez who's gone on to be a pro bowler,
Cody Parker has gone on to be a pro bowler,
Billy Kundiff. But of course the answer at the kicker,
it's got to be Phil Dawson, the incomparable Phil Dawsin.
Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
Phil Dawson was, I believe, eighty four percent on field
goals for his career, Yes, with the Browns, eighty four percent,
ninety seven percent on pats.
Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
Different pat back then that's when it was that it
was basically an automatic. It was a chip shot. Phil Dawson, though,
you know in terms of distance, when seven for eight
in twenty eleven, seven for seven in twenty twelve, two
times second team All Pro with the Browns was obviously
a pro Bowler in that season in twenty twelve, and
there were a few years there were basically Phil Dawson.
(01:06:37):
He felt like was he was the MVP of this
football team. Yeah, he was the he was he was yeah,
oh no, I yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
Some of his memorable kicks Brown Steelers sixteen to fifteen
and nineteen ninety nine game winning kick.
Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
What about the one off that like the two.
Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
Evan Brown's Ravens, Dawson's kick bounced off the upright and
crossbar before going through. It was initially ruled no good
and then Good reversed it. Twenty fourteen forty nine Ers Rams.
Remember he went on to kick for your forty nine ers. Yeah,
he was a good kicker for them.
Speaker 2 (01:07:18):
Yeah. Phil Dawson, very accomplished player. Interesting on some of
the legend I was there, he was retired. He went
in if I'm not mistaken, into the legends with Jim
with Jim, Yeah, that's right, this past season, that's right.
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
So you had Dawson from ninety nine to twenty twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
He's the answer. I mean, there's not even anybody correct.
Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
Billy Condiff was our kicker from two thousand and nine
to twenty fourteen.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
Billy there's a great video Mo Pedmans screaming at the
for kind off. He went on to be a first
team All Pro with the Ravens in twenty ten.
Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
A lot of kickers went on to some success after so.
Speaker 2 (01:07:59):
Kind of was with us, left us and came back.
He was here in two thousand and nine and then
came back in thirteen and fourteen.
Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
Travis Coons remember that?
Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
Yep? Do you remember? Was it him?
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
We did a we did It was very popular and
it was down the street. I think line was out
the door and around the corner.
Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
It was crazy, handsome fella. Great guy started his career
with the most consecutive kicks made. I don't know if
it was in league history, maybe Brown's history, but he
started his career one, three, seven, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen,
fifteen sixteen. I think he made seventeen straight kicks to
start his career. Yeah, and then we saw him. He
(01:08:43):
kicked for the Chargers in that game when we played
in the soccer stadium. Yeah. Great dude, Travis Coons, very
nice guy. Uh, Cody Parky, Cody Parky. Zane Gonzalez was
a draft pick, draft pick, and then Zane Gonzalez I'm
pretty sure he's still in the league, and.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
He is pretty sure. Weren't they all on Washington?
Speaker 2 (01:09:01):
Zay Gonzalez went to Arizona. I thought he was a
Pro bowler one year in Arizona. Maybe he did not
make the Pro Bowl. I thought he did. He had
one year. He made ninety percent of his kicks in
twenty four. Last year kicked a couple of games for Washington.
Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
Greg Joseph, Greg Joseph, Austin cyber.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
Greag Joseph's I even didn't make it as a good
memory by you. Greg Joseph is the kicker for the Vikings,
if I'm not mistaken. Now he's the kicker for the Niners.
He was a kicker for the Vikings for a while
and now he's signed with the Niners. But he had
some really good years with the with the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
Austin Cyberts bounced around.
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
Yep. Chase McLoughlin was with cyber was kicking really well
for Washington last year and then got.
Speaker 3 (01:09:44):
Hurt, and then didn't they sign Kid York.
Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
They signed Kad York, but then he came out. He
was twenty seven of thirty and nine games on field
goals twenty seven to thirty, did not miss from inside
of fifty yards.
Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
Pretty good. Cad York at Chase McLaughlin in between. Yeah,
Riley Patterson they brought in for a couple of games.
Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
D hot So Cybert's a free agent right now. Zane
Gonzalez is actually in Washington. Cyberg got placed on IR
after having such a great start. Such a bummer for him. Yeah,
so those those a year kids. Gloughlin had some really
good years.
Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
Isn't here's some guys that could that could kick the
football for.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Us, isn't McLoughlin still in like Tampa.
Speaker 3 (01:10:27):
I feel like he's in the league. I don't know
where he's at.
Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
And of course start internet goes right.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
Not great seventy percent on field goals with US Pats
ninety seven.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
Then he was good with he went to Indy and
with solid. Yeah, he's been with Tampa the last two years.
The last two years he's made ninety four percent of
his field goals. He is fifty nine for sixty three
the last two years, including fifteen of eighteen from fifty
plus with Tampa. How is he not a pro bowler?
They goes thirty to thirty two last year, including eight
(01:11:00):
of ten from fifty plus, didn't miss a kick inside
of fifty yards, was fifty four to fifty six on
extra points. He's good on tick kickoffs. How does he
he should have been a pro bowler, quite frankly, Yeah, yeah,
there's a lot of guys come through the answer for
us for our purposes.
Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
That Phil is Phil do He's a legend for a reason.
Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
He is a legend. Yes, all right, punters, we have
some good ones, the Scottish Hammer, Corey bojorkz Zasadil Gardaki, Landing,
Reggie Hodges, Brad Maynard, Andy Lee.
Speaker 3 (01:11:30):
I didn't realize Phil Dawson had done some punning for us.
I don't know if we got to get hurt. Yeah,
it had to be Gardaki from ninety nine to zero three.
Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
So Andy Lee is a three time first team All Pro,
three time Pro bowler, one time second team All Pro.
But those were all with the Niners. He only kicked
for the Browns in the twenty fifteen season.
Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
Then do we trade him to Carolina?
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:11:52):
Huh okay, I could remember if he came from Carolina,
But then when you said Niners on like.
Speaker 2 (01:11:56):
Oh, obviously, then we had the great Zasadyl was with us.
I'm trying to see if anybody made the Pro Bowl
at any point.
Speaker 3 (01:12:04):
Zastadil Billy Kundiff.
Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
Guard Dock. He made the Pro Bowl, but as a
member of the Indianapolis Colts. He did lead the league
in punting yards with the Browns in ninety nine and
two thousand and led the league in pun attempts in
two thousand and two thousand and one. Che those were
tough times there. Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:12:29):
Reggie Hodges had a good career. Local guy lives around
here now. Brad Maynard, remember that name, Brad Maynard. Sure,
he was, like I want to say, played a ball.
Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
State, played at ball State. You're correct, third round pick
of the Giants. Really good. Was only with the Browns
for one year. He is really a Bears punter. Yep.
He was at the Browns at the end of his
career when at the age of thirty seven to twenty eleven.
I mean, the answer to me is in terms of
like stats in his time with the Browns. Bjorkaz He's
(01:13:04):
last year, led the league in punting yards, had the
long punt in the league three of the last five years.
His net averages are historic for the Browns. His total
averages are historic for the Browns. He's averaged forty nine
point one yards per punt for the Browns. He would
be the guy I want to work out with a
Scottish hammer. Oh man, the hammer. I love the hammer.
(01:13:25):
Uh still lives around here in the offseason. Great dude, yep.
And he's been the Giants punter for the last three seasons.
So I mean made giving himself a six year NFL career,
Like that's when you know his background. That is incredible
that he was able to do that. But I'm going
to go with the Great Cole. I'm gonna go with
the Great Coal because I love the guy. I love
(01:13:46):
Corey Borcaz too. That's why I wanted to pass a
lot again. There was a time where the kicker and
the punter where the best. Cole's postgame celebration in Denver
is that's it. That's why he is, That's why he
is the man. Yeah, And then it comes to long Sampers, now,
(01:14:12):
Charlie Hewlett and Pomprion. Pomprion was a two time Pro bowler,
so he's got to get it. Hewlett's great, great dude,
love Hewlett, Yes.
Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
But Pomprion was. Pomprion is the prime example of when
it starts to go south in your career, it goes
south in a big, big.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
Big way. Hurry, Charlie Hewitt al by the way with
the Eagles. Yeah, he had been a just this iron
man for the Browns in his in his ten years
or his first nine seasons here, played every game last year,
got hurt, and now he's going to be a Philadelphia Eagle. Yeah,
but you got a Pomprion was when you're a two
(01:14:57):
time also a two time Pro bowler as a long
snapper and you make it as the team's long snapper. Yep,
that's where he is. So that's that's the squad. So
to recap it for you, Quarterbacks Mayfield and Derek Anderson,
running Backs, Nick Chubb, Jamal Lewis, Payton Hillis, Kareem Hunt.
Receivers Josh Gordon, Jarvis, Landry Braylan Edwards, Josh Cribs, Amari Cooper,
(01:15:19):
Jerry Judy, tight ends David at Joku, Gary Barnage and
Jordan Cameron. Tackles Joe Thomas, Jack Conklin, Mitchell Schwartz, Dwan Jones, Guards,
Joel Botonio, Y Teller, John Greco, Kevin Zeitler, centers, Alex
mack and j. C. Tretter. Defensive ends Miles Garrett, Ivan Clowney,
Levey Vernon, Paul Kruger, Jabal Sheard, defensive tackles Sean Rodgers,
(01:15:40):
Dalvin Tomlinson, Sheldon Richardson, Desmon Bryant. Linebackers j Okay, Jamir Millard,
Daquel Jackson, Joe Shobert, Christian Kirksey, Corners, Denzel Ward, Joe Hayden,
Anthony Henry, m j Emerson, Buster screen and Money, Mitch safeties,
Grant delpit tj Ward, Dante Whitner, Sean Jones to, Sean Gibson,
long snapper, Ryan Pompreon, punter, the great cole kicker Phil Dawson.
(01:16:02):
And then the coach I think would have to be
Kevin Sevanski, two time Coach of the Year. Yeah, I don't.
Let's see coach.
Speaker 3 (01:16:19):
It's Greg, It's Freddy, it's Greg Williams, Hugh, it's Mike Petton,
Chad Zinski. Yep, Butch Davis. But davisach Davis totick him
to the playoffs second and third probably.
Speaker 2 (01:16:41):
And prior to last year, he had a very winning record.
Prior to last year, he was thirty seven and thirty
that's right now, forty and forty four. Al right, we'll
get him back. We'll get it back. And he won
a playoff game. Yeah, exactly, all right. When we come back,
Sam Monson joined the show to recap the Brown's draft
and free agency. Set in a stage for you for
(01:17:03):
this training camp. You'll have listen to that when we
return here on Clean Browns Daily, brought to you by Bally.
Speaker 1 (01:17:07):
Bat Cleveland Browns Daily, presented by Bally Bat, an official
sports betting partner of your Cleveland Browns on eight fifty
ESP and Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
All Right, as we get ready for camp and the
veterans reporting next week, let's take one last bet look
back at the off season with NFL analysts for the
thirty third team and co host of the Check the
Mic podcast, Sam Monson joined the show back in May
to recap the Brown's draft and free agency.
Speaker 6 (01:17:38):
Take a listen, Sam, Thank you so much for taking
the time. So going into the draft, one thing Nathan
and I and kind of everybody around the Browns who
were around him every day kind of thought, is you
picked Travis Hunter unless you get a godfather offer? Did
they get one? And if so or if not, what
did you make of what they did? Big picture on
the draft weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:17:58):
Yeah, I don't know if it was a god offer,
but I think it was a pretty good offer and
a deal that you can definitely defend taking. A lot
of it depends on what you think of Mason Graham
as a prospect, and he was a guy that didn't
get that much kind of conversation around him. This draft
prospect or this draft process, we sort of focused on,
you know, the Travis Hunters, the Abdul Carter's, and Mason Graham,
(01:18:21):
you know, coming into the process, I think was seen
in that same group. And then maybe when we saw
the measurements and it turned out he wasn't three hundred
and twenty pounds and he didn't have long arms, and
he wasn't a sort of the physical prototype, I think
he flipped into the next category for a bunch of people.
But I think you could argue that Mason Graham on
(01:18:41):
the football field is maybe the best player in this draft,
certainly up there with the top Blue Chief guys. And
so when you factor in the rest of that deal,
it's basically Mason Graham and two more players, you know,
including a first rounder next year for Travis Hunter. And
I think that's entirely defendable. Even with Travis Hunter being
(01:19:02):
this unique prospect and we don't quite know what he
could be value wise based off, you know, being a
two way player at the next level, there's a lot
of unknown and therefore sort of theoretical ceiling to Travis
Hunter that's kind of untapped in the last you know,
several decades of NFL prospects.
Speaker 2 (01:19:23):
Sam, So we started obviously with Mason Graham. When you
just kind of step back from it, we'll get into
some specific players and of course the quarterbacks. But Mason
Graham and then swesst and Jerseys to go defense defense
with I think, which I think surprised a lot of people.
Then it's all offense. You get two running backs, two quarterbacks,
and a tight end in Harold Fanner. What did you
make of the Swessenger pick at thirty three and then
kind of just the overall offensive halland was did you
(01:19:45):
take a message away where the Browns? What were the
Browns trying to accomplish in this draft in your mind?
Speaker 4 (01:19:50):
I think, honestly, the Browns just drafted best player available
when they came up, and I think that kind of
really explains their entire draft. And sometimes I think overall,
drafting best player available, just taking the guys you think
are really good is a good drafting strategy, but sometimes
it does mean that when you come out of the
draft at the end of it and you sort of
(01:20:11):
look at the overall hall of players, you go, well,
we didn't hit this position, or we you know, we
didn't find.
Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
Cover at this spot.
Speaker 4 (01:20:18):
You don't necessarily tick off all of the needs that
you would have on the roster. So I think that's
the criticism of this draft, if you want to level
what at it is because they just drafted the guys
that they thought were basically the top bey on the board.
They didn't necessarily hit, you know, the exact positions that
you would want them to hit if they were drafting
in that way as their overall overarching philosophy. But in
(01:20:41):
terms of the players they picked, I think they just
grabbed good football players all the way down.
Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
What did you think a Harold fan and who obviously
was so productive at bowling Green pick number sixty seven,
and the Browns wanted to get back into more twelve personnel,
the idea of being able to pair him who can
probably not be as attached as much, but in the slot,
even out at times with David Ajoku.
Speaker 4 (01:21:02):
Yeah, absolutely crazy production in college. Like there have been
a couple of tight ends in the last few years
who basically were the offense in college. Usually it's a
running back or maybe a wide receiver that takes the
entirety of the system. But Trey McBride when he was
coming out of college before he went to the Cardinals,
and then Harrold Fannon those are the guys that just
they were the offense. And Harrold Fannin is dynamic. I
(01:21:26):
think people maybe expected him to test a little better
and put up more crazy athleticism numbers didn't quite have that.
And he's got a sort of slightly unusual running style,
almost like bow legged or knock me the way he
moves around. But he makes people miss, and he's dynamic
and athletic and has good hands.
Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:21:45):
I think you're right. They're going to use more two
tight end sets, and I think he can definitely be
a significant receiving threat within that type of offense.
Speaker 6 (01:21:54):
Sam Dylan Gabriel was, according to Kevin Spansky Andrew Burry
their number two quarterback on the ball behind cam Ward,
so cam Ward won. They had Dylan Gabriel number two.
What do you see from Gabriel on tape? Obviously highly
efficient at Oregon, but what did you see on tape?
And in terms of how that tape would fit what
Kevin wants to do offensively?
Speaker 4 (01:22:17):
Yeah, so I can't get to the second best quarterback
in this draft with Dylan Gabriel, but I know, I mean,
I think I ranked him fourth. I think Steve, my
podcast partner, had him somewhere in the top five. And
Mike Rehder, a former colleague of ours and that with
CBS Sports, I think he had him as the third
quarterback in this draft. So as a collective, we were
definitely higher on Dylan Gabriel than most people. I think
(01:22:40):
he gets kind of mislabeled a bit because he's short, right,
So we see these short quarterbacks and we tend to
think of them as having marginal NFL tools and you know,
not really having the physical skill set to succeed at
the next level across the board. But actually, if you
watch Dylan Gabriel, he's got a really good arm, not
just a mark, you know, not just a better arm
than he think. We're a short guy. I mean, he's
(01:23:01):
got a really legit cannon on him, and he's more
athletic than he get him credit for as well. And
even though he's short, he's stocky, he's stick. He's not
a slight quarterback that you're sort of worried about taking
hits like Bryce Young was. He's got some power to him.
So I think Dylan Gabriel's actually got some pretty impressive
physical tools and obviously is incredibly experienced, has played a
(01:23:24):
ton in college, and we were sort of talking about
him as, yeah, look, he's probably a backup quarterback at
the next level. But if you were picking one of
those backup level quarterbacks and asking like, which is the
one guy that's going to defy expectations and overachieve and
become a surprise starter out of that group, I think
Dylan Gabriel was the guy that we were all zeroing
(01:23:46):
in on and saying, I could I could definitely see
that guy overachieving and you know, performing a middle round
draft pick, so I have no problem where they drafted him.
You know, I think we were higher on him than
the consensus. But that's a perfectly acceptable range. I think
to draft a guy like that, and I do think
he has the tools to potentially succeed and become a starter.
Speaker 2 (01:24:09):
Is this the if you were going to say the
type of offense you wanted Dylan Gabriel to go at,
to be that guy who would exceed expectations as the
Kevin Sefanski offense, is that is that the right spot
for him?
Speaker 4 (01:24:20):
I mean, I think Kevin Stefanski's offense is the right
spot for most quarterbacks. I think it's a good offense.
It's a quarterback friendly system. There aren't many quarterbacks that
I think don't naturally fit particularly well within that offense. Now,
ironically the Browns went and traded the farm for one,
which doesn't help. But yeah, I think Dylan Gabriel fits
within that offense. I think shud Or Standers fits within
(01:24:42):
that offense. I think it's a good system for either
of those guys to show the best that they can
bring to the table at this level.
Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
Good to that end, I think once they picked Dylan Gabriel,
we thought that was it right at that position. Sam
Then they picked Shador Sanders, who most people had rated
significantly ahead of Dylan Gabriel, and I think who very
very few people, if any, on the planet thought that
he would be picked number one, forty four in this draft. Obviously,
we know now that the pre draft process was not
(01:25:12):
up to the level that teams around the league had expected,
and that you know, takes the fall for a guy
who was either a first or a second round talent
based on most people's tape evaluation, and those who you know,
weren't detractors, said, oh, yeah, he's a good second round pick.
He goes in the fifth. What do you make of
Shador Sanders the player? We know why he fell where
he did, and then what that can mean for the NFL,
what that can mean for Dylan Gabriel and Kenny Pickett
(01:25:34):
and Kevin Stefanski here in Cleveland.
Speaker 4 (01:25:37):
Yeah, I mean, I agree. I think he's a first
or a second round talent on pretty much everybody's evaluation.
On the field, It's it's a difficult evaluation because the
offensive line, the protection at Colorado was horrific, like an
absolute travesty, and I think that completely muddies the picture
in terms of Shador's relationship with pressure and how he's
(01:25:59):
going to handle that at the next level. And that
was his biggest flaw certainly last season, was how many
sacks he takes, how many bad sax he takes. But
we don't know what that looks like. If you change
the dynamic and you change just the volume of pressure
you put him under. You think back to Baker Mayfield
and Cleveland. When Greg Robinson was Baker Mayfield's left tackle.
(01:26:20):
It changed everything about the way Baker Mayfield plays the
game right, even on the plays where he wasn't getting
pressure and he was leaning away from that left tackle spot.
It just got in his head and he started to
change the way you play the game. Now, think about
all five of your offensive linemen or bask Greg Robinson.
That's what Chendoor Sanders was dealing with the Colorado and
(01:26:40):
it has to change the way you behave not just
under pressure, but on the plays where you're not pressure.
So I think what we saw was a guy who
has you know, first or second round talent, depending on
how you evaluate and project those things, who fell as
far as he did because of all the other stuff,
because of whether it's handling the pre draft process, you know,
(01:27:01):
rubbing teams the wrong way, whether it's the Deon Sanders factor,
all those different things, and the Browns, you know, effectively
had taken him off the board. We're saying, well, he's
not worth the first rounder at the top, he's not
worth the second rounder, and we like Dylan Gabriel maybe more,
you know, maybe less. Who knows whether there's accurately telling
the truth with that, but we like Dylan Gabriel and
(01:27:21):
the third is a better option. But at some point
quarterback is such a payoff, and you know, you have
to have the self awareness to know that nobody is
particularly good at evaluating these guys. So it becomes a
worthwhile roll of the dice, right if they take door
Standers in the fifth even though they think there's a
very small chance that he works out. If he does
(01:27:43):
work out and he's a fifth round draft pick, it's
the best pick they made this draft. And if he
doesn't work out, a fifth round draft pick is so
low that there's no downside. You know, they can if
he comes in with an entitled attitude and causing problems
and as a headache, you can cut them in training
can but it's not a big deal. I mean, fifth
round picks don't make the roster relatively regularly. So I
(01:28:05):
think they just reached the point in the draft where
they decided there was no downside to this move and
the potential upside is huge.
Speaker 2 (01:28:14):
Sam, how do you.
Speaker 6 (01:28:17):
You're looking at the tape, your tape guy, right, we
look at the tape and you have these opinions on
these guys. How do you compare Gabriel and Sanders strengths weaknesses.
Speaker 4 (01:28:28):
I think should Standers is the most accurate quarterback in
this draft class. I think he reads through a defense
pretty well. I think Gabriel has better physical tools, strange
as it sounds for a short quarterback, but I think
he's got a better arm. I think he's more athletic.
I think he's more dynamic when he's moving around. But
(01:28:49):
I think Shoodhor Sanders is a better pure passer of
the ball. He's more accurate, he's got better poise, He's
able to layer the ball better. I think he's able
to read defenses a little bit better point as well.
So I think they're very different players, but as I said,
I ranked them reasonably close together. I had Sanders as
my second quarterback in this draft based on the tape,
(01:29:11):
and I had Gabrielos before.
Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
It's gonna be interesting. I mean, can you recall a
time like this where you're gonna have really and both
said earlier they really can go into this with no
bias whatsoever and just have a real quarterback competition. You've got,
obviously Joe Flacco, who's been here in one games, Kenny
Pickett's won fifteen games in the NFL and a former
first rounder in his own right. But this is gonna
(01:29:37):
be such a unique situation. How do you even kind
of in your mind what are you hoping to see
from these guys and maybe even how the Browns approach
this to try to really figure out, Okay, who is
the best one for us now in the future.
Speaker 4 (01:29:50):
Yeah, I mean for the Browns, the best thing that
can happen for them is either one of those two
guys wins the job and looks like a future quarterback,
you know, looks like a potential starter, not just this year,
but in twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven. If
they need to go with Kenny Pickett or Joe Flacco,
it's not the worst thing in the world, because they
That's the other part of this, the trade at the
(01:30:11):
top of this draft is they are now positioned with
two first round picks next year, so they've bought themselves
time to get to next year when they might be
they might have a better shot at a quarterback that
they do really like at the top of this draft,
right so next year, you know, it's always too early
to say accurately what next year's draft class is going
to look like from the quarterback point of view, but
(01:30:33):
they really thought that this was basically a one quarterback draft.
It was cam Ward at number one, and then a
big gat to anybody else, and really only cam Ward
was a true sort of franchise quarterback that you're willing
to just toss the keys to right away and be
comfortable with for the next ten years. Next year probably
has more than that. You know, we don't know how
(01:30:54):
many yet, but it's probably going to have more than
one that falls into that category. So Cleveland has already
had in a really smart way by getting those two
first round draft picks, and they've bought themselves that time.
So I really think you just go in there, you
figure out who's going to be the nominal starter, you know,
day one of training camp, and then you just give
(01:31:14):
give these guys reps with the first team and see
who emerges, you know, see who puts their hand up
and shows not just the best play but some kind
of leadership quality and you know as a guy that
the team will rally around and all those kinds of things.
But yeah, it should be as open a competition as
you're going to find in the NFL right now.
Speaker 6 (01:31:34):
Yeah, Sam, you're the best man. Thank you so much
for the time. Greatly appreciate you anytime.
Speaker 4 (01:31:39):
Guys, stay easy, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
That was Sam monson The next level is next and
when we're back next week, it's go time. Baby. Thanks
