Speaker 1 (00:08):
Welcome to the From the Podium podcast, where we feature
all of our daily press conferences rolled into one podcast
to help you get ready for the twenty twenty five
regular season. I'm Brock Danahy, and on today's episode, you'll
hear from head coach Kevin Stefanski, defensive end Miles Garrett,
and quarterback Joe Flacco from the joint practice in Carolina.
(00:31):
First up, head coach Kevin Stefanski provides updates on who
will play in preseason game number one.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Okay, good morning, Good to see you guys.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
You know, obviously thrilled to be here to get to
go against the Panthers and coach Canal So I think
does an awesome job.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
It'll be fun.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
It's a great challenge for both sides, our offense, our defense.
Thank you Murph for our special teams. We'll get two
good seven on seven periods. We'll get two good team periods.
We'll get two good special teams, defense, offense. So everybody's
getting work out here. So it's a and and hopefully
this whether cooperates, we'll see. I see you guys are
(01:08):
ready for the challenge of that on the game itself. Uh,
you know, we got game Friday night coming up. We'll
rest some starters, some players will play, obviously holding out
some guys due to injury, uh as you know, and
then we'll play Shador at quarterback. We just signed Snoop
Huntley as you guys saw. We'll see get Snoop back
up to speed quickly. He's been in a couple of
(01:30):
different offenses since we left saw him, so he's doing
a great job of working at it. But it's a
great opportunity for all of our young players in that
football game. But with that, I'll take any questions. We're
gonna work through it, Tony. I mean, Snoop just got
here yesterday, so I just want to want to see
how he's doing with the terminology and all those type
(01:50):
of things.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
At anybody other than.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Those two at quarterback at quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Will start the number one would play the thing.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Gonna work through that again, it's it's Shador and Snoop
would be the the quarterbacks that are playing in this game.
And I just Snoop just got off the airplane yesterday,
so catch him up.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
You need to get should extra reps to the.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Even with the ones game, no, I think with a
lot of our younger guys, they're gonna get the majority
of their reps are gonna come in the football game
today is gonna be more about some of the older
guys and the starters.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
They will be able to do seven on seven, but
limited it.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
What makes you confident that go out there and yourself nicely.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
In this game?
Speaker 3 (02:37):
What do you see makes you believe that, Yeah, my
expectations for Shudor are no different than the rest of
the guys.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Honestly, Mary Kay, they they we expect them to go operate.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
But it's uh when you get in these preseason games,
you try to keep it very simple so that guys
can play fast, all concepts that our players know and
can kind of not think too much and just play ball.
Speaker 7 (02:56):
When it comes to get the offensive line in the game,
you just keeping the units together, whether they're off or
all hand or can you start a couple of guys
you could?
Speaker 2 (03:06):
I think you can.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
I think you can certainly mix a match Tony, just
based on what your team needs. But by and large,
you know I'm gonna rest most of the starters.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Is it more just concerned with Dylan?
Speaker 8 (03:20):
I mean, because he looked like he got eleven and
eleven and seven on seven reps.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yeah, Monday.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
So was it just just being very careful with him.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Don't want to expose him to any uh unnecessary you know, strain.
Speaker 6 (03:33):
If you will, Dallis. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Do you think in terms of their.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
First team deep?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yeah, you know, this is part of the the fun
part for us as coaches is going against uh, these defenses.
We don't nobody gain plans for these mary, kay. So
what you're doing is a lot of times in football
you have unscattered looks, and that's our job.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
We talked about in the quarterback room. That's the fun part.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Where they're gonna maybe be deploying a different uh front
or a different coverage, and we have to solve those
problems on the sideline in between series. Okay, hey, what
are you guys seeing? They're they're playing quarters? Uh, you
know what type type of front is now, we know
that the base of who they are and and and
as you know, a lot of people don't want to
show too much in the preseason, so it does make
it a little bit more of vanilla. But I do
(04:15):
think it's a great challenge for a team in those
preseason game settings to just trust what you see and
have discussions on the sideline about what you're seeing.
Speaker 8 (04:23):
What are the Snoop's experience with you guys last year
in preseason of how much was that the big reason
why in the situation like this you.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Went with, Yeah, I think that's a huge part of
the reason snoops are. You know, obviously U a great
kid too. We love having around, So we're just catching
him up. But there's enough similarity where he can pick
it up. But you know, to his credit, he's been
in some different offenses, So you gotta shake shake the
those type of things out of your brain a little
bit and get caught up on.
Speaker 6 (04:52):
What we're doing.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
For the rookie year is right now?
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Yeah, it'd be it probably unfair for me to say
I haven't stud I need him.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
I have a ton of respect for him and and
the player that he is, and you know a ton
of respect for Dave and what he's doing here with
with this football team. But it'd be unfair for me
to say, what if.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
We will You're you're going into him?
Speaker 4 (05:15):
What do you defense does year? Reb?
Speaker 6 (05:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Again, not for me to say, uh, I'm I'm really
focused on our football.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Team, Greg. You expect him back up participating.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yes, he'll be limited, he's progressing nicely. What about Yeah,
we'll not be out there?
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Uh? Left kept him back.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
Up in Cleveland?
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Or where's Daniel anybody else?
Speaker 3 (05:40):
You're strong, you're gonna hold all those Uh, we'll hold
the those guys out.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Sam will be out there though.
Speaker 9 (05:47):
In terms of the second team, I think you said
most of the second team offense planning plunder should do
those guys going up against their first team defense.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
What are the concerns about he being nicely protected enough
right now?
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Sure, that's I mean, that's part of I think it's
just preseason ball, Mary kay. Where you may have some
ones going against two s two's going against ones. You
could have there's different guys in there at different times.
But I think both sides, particularly in that first game,
it's it's all about playing fast, so you typically don't
(06:20):
see a ton of looks that are unusual per se.
So if you stick to your rules and you stick
to what you've been taught over the last few weeks,
you should be able to operate and function well.
Speaker 6 (06:32):
Did you say today yesterday? Yeah?
Speaker 10 (06:36):
And you and days seem to be pretty aligned on
how you approach playing your starters in the.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Preseason and things like this. What is the methodology behind that?
Speaker 11 (06:45):
Where is it more of a feel?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah, it's a good question. I think every well, I
know this.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Every team is different, every coach is different, and you're
trying to in these as you put your preseason play together.
You're trying to do what you think is best for
your football team. Obviously, this is a first or me
having a practice versus another team in week one of
the preseason. We haven't done that, so there are different
reasons we wanted to try that. We've done a variety
of things this offseason and this training camp a little
(07:11):
bit different, all in an effort to get your football
team ready for a week one.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Seventeen plus season.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
But it's really so incumbent on the coaches at your
respective team to know what your team needs to get
ready for the season.
Speaker 10 (07:24):
You know, wide receivers wise, who won't play, won't play, isn't, Jerry, won't,
mostly everybody else.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yeah, I'm not gonna go by position, but I'll give
you this one Chris Jerry and said won't play, but
everybody else will play.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
You guys got to ask me about theling. Nobody asked me
about Adam Field almost every day.
Speaker 6 (07:51):
Thank you, Zach.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
I just caught up with Adam in there, so that
was fun for me. He's still doing it at a
high level. Love to watch him play. We nicknamed him
teach tape a long time ago when he was a
young rookie for US at the Vikings.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
And he shows up on those teach tapes a lot
but unbelievable competitor.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Uh and just an even better person.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
If Martin had his surgery, get over.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
The fields, yes, yes, and he's back up in Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Takes great care of his body.
Speaker 12 (08:27):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Just has always done that on and off the field.
You know, he's strong, he's fast, but uh, for all
those years doing it, I mean he he played through
some injuries. I can think back to the Minneapolis Miracle game.
One of the most impressive players I've ever seen was.
He hurt his back early in that game and was
playing I forget what the term was with his back,
(08:49):
and he ran a slant late in the game. This
was I think the drive before the final drive, and
he got held up at the line of scrimmage and
there was a defensive holding penalty. This correctly case scrambles
to the right, Adam wiggles open, so he's.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Got a defensive holding.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
At the last scrammage wiggles open and then as he
goes up for the ball, Case throws it to him.
The defender pass interference on him and he still catches
a contested ball, so there's a defensive holding defense pass appearance.
Made the play with a bad back and set the
team up for what was an unbelievable win for the team.
But that to me, I don't know if there's many
more plays in the history of this game that are
(09:26):
as impressive as.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
At What was the Door's reaction when he told the
stuff this game.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Yeah, he's excited and he knew he was gonna play
a good bit in these preseason games.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
So, uh, the competitor in him is is very excited.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
I know it's you know, things heal went.
Speaker 7 (09:42):
But is the hope that Kenny and Org Dylan will.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Be back for Philly next week.
Speaker 6 (09:47):
That's the hope.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
We'll see how it progresses.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
I think with all these injuries, you gotta gotta take
it as one day at a time.
Speaker 13 (09:53):
You know, Joan's best in the interest of the team.
But why Flacco wouldn't see any.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Action in this game.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Yeah, yeah, just it goes per player what I think
they need to get ready for the season.
Speaker 9 (10:05):
In terms of uh befleather today, if it starts down
pointing again, do you really want Miles out there or.
Speaker 13 (10:13):
Get agree we won't.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
It'll be based on what, uh the conditions are really
based on if it's safe. If it's safe and the
guys are practicing uh in in a safe environment, we'll
we'll continue with our plan. But we would never put
our guys in a in a tough spot.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
And in terms of.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
Should we're really not taking any repshot with your first
team off and again not a million of first teamers,
you're gonna be out there with him, how do you
think he.
Speaker 9 (10:39):
Will perform with whoever whoever's gonna be standing.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
In whatever he has you?
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yeah, I think all of our players and shoulder has
gotten reps with all the different centers and has gotten
reps with get different guys throwing to them, uh you
know during practice. So uh, I feel real confident that
all the guys will have a good feel for who's
playing next to them, the left tackle on the left guard,
that there may be some batteries that are a little
bit different you know, but I think the guys have
(11:06):
worked very hard to just be on the same page.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Where do you think the.
Speaker 13 (11:09):
Most important thing for or an accomplish that is kind
of an emergency setting on.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Pride, well would I wouldn't call it an emergency setting,
but I'd say for all of our players, it's about
taking the practice field to the game field.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
That's what's most important.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
It's the same plays that we're running in these in
these practices will be the same players we're running the game.
Speaker 6 (11:29):
So just to.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
All of our players, you always tell these rookies not
to make sure that the game is just an extension
of practice.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
From the Saturday.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Impact your decision, Yeah, I believe we're past that he's
gotten treatment.
Speaker 6 (11:45):
I think we're fine there.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Next, All Pro defensive end Miles Garrett talks about going
up against the Panthers offensive line during the joint practice.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Like overall of good days.
Speaker 10 (11:58):
I mean, do you feel like you gotacounb with what
you most through is crowded.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
With you through? Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 14 (12:04):
I Mean it wasn't perfect as far as you know
it being clean, but the guys getting after it, competing,
you know, stepping up to the challenge. You know it's
first time getting in front of a another team. I
L I like for our head drive. I like how
well uh we hand the intensity and try to raise
it to our own and uh it was a good,
good step forward and trying to create a standard.
Speaker 10 (12:24):
You almost expects things not to be not to be
cleansion in prison precise.
Speaker 6 (12:28):
That first time out.
Speaker 14 (12:29):
No, yeah, I mean there's so many different you know
groups that we have it one, two threes and you know,
cycling through that. You know you sometime you playing with
guys here, you know you haven't had a lot of
reps with and so you're not you're not expecting them
to be there.
Speaker 6 (12:42):
The communication is not.
Speaker 14 (12:43):
Exactually where uh it needs to be with uh a
guy you're you're getting three or four reps with so
no y y you wanna you wanted to be clean,
you wanted to be smooth and perfect, but it's gotta
you gotta get more reps.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
Nothing else.
Speaker 9 (12:55):
Wanna page check. You've seen shipboards and the how do
a little bit of the stage reps there?
Speaker 5 (13:01):
Picking your brains a little bit or whatever, kind of
just wondering what your response to.
Speaker 9 (13:05):
Uh sure kind of how he's conducting himself A camping
and now he's getting his starting up Friday night.
Speaker 6 (13:11):
W your puss.
Speaker 14 (13:12):
I mean he's it's funny, he's optimistic, light hearted, Uh,
but he works hard.
Speaker 6 (13:17):
You know, he takes it. He takes it seriously.
Speaker 14 (13:19):
Uh, his craft and he he's watching what the others
are doing and and you know, doing it his own
way and which only he can.
Speaker 6 (13:25):
So you know, looking forward to to see him.
Speaker 14 (13:27):
You know, then this these preseason games and you know
how he uh you know, manages the offense.
Speaker 6 (13:32):
But I think he he looks good. But all the
guys look good right now, and does he does?
Speaker 5 (13:36):
He didn't show an issue to like his partet. I mean,
and maybe you guys aren't talking like you know technic
homogors or so how well was like, yeah, but is
he picking your brains into certain things.
Speaker 14 (13:45):
Like what you expecting when you're for sure not always
uh you know when you see him and he's picking
my brain, but you know, he he's definitely coming to
me a couple of times to to see what you know,
I'm thinking now I'm going through my rush or what
the what the defense's uh, you know, mentality.
Speaker 11 (13:58):
Is most from what number one takes you to other
what do you think about your work against Race Young today?
Speaker 6 (14:04):
Uh?
Speaker 14 (14:05):
Yeah, I mean I think it looks a lot more comfortable,
you know than uh, you know the first time he
you know, he suited up and I think he uh
they've really ra rallied around him and seeing that he
can he can lead this team and and uh do well,
you know, the the playmaking and game change ability hasn't changed,
and you know, I think it it w it's just
uh him you know, finding his own confidence, being comfortable
(14:26):
in the role and uh them no help l allowing
him to lead and no standing behind him.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
And I think that was that was big for him.
Speaker 14 (14:33):
And you know he's only gonna continue to settle in
and and uh become a bigger and bigger playmaker.
Speaker 8 (14:38):
You can that help a a young player, would you know?
They they I know they sat him for a little bit,
they and they let Andy start forward. But can that
help with younger players sometime to kind of step back
and you know, kind of reset.
Speaker 14 (14:51):
And you know, kind of see I can I think
in most cases for quarterbacks that's imperative. Don't to allow
them to get some perspective, you know, take a step back,
not not be you know, expected to change a franchise
or a team overnight. You know, allow allow yourself to
be guided by some of the people who came before you,
who who who have seen the game, who have game experience,
and and you can really learn from. And then once
(15:13):
you're you're ready to to take that role, let it
happen gradually instead of suddenly and uh be thrust into
a position where it's uh, it's make a break.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
You guys are trying to.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Change this franchise or with three weeks?
Speaker 6 (15:23):
And what do you see?
Speaker 11 (15:24):
What what you're feeling on on how things you feel?
Speaker 14 (15:27):
I like how to uh, I like how the the
standard has continued to increase now every single day. Uh,
you know, guys are really showing uh uh a t
an attention to detail and uh discipline that I don't
feel was there all the time last year. And uh
it's a you know, hiding a hiding awareness heightened urgency
right now And UH don't wanna continue to see that
through the rest of the year.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
Why else wouldna How do you trace establishing? Talk a lot?
Speaker 12 (15:52):
Did they talk about into Blayan said, where did conversation
you race had establishment?
Speaker 14 (15:58):
I feel like there w it was and Neffer all around,
from from coaches to players. You know, it's it's gotta
be you know, everyone in the building. You know, from
from Haslam down to uh, you know, the the last
guy on the roster. You know, everyone's got to have
the same mindset of what we expect from you know,
every single one of us walking into that building. And
I think it's gotta it's gotta continue to be pushed
(16:20):
by you know, the leaders of the team who who
have been you know, expected to rise up to that role.
And I think a lot of the guys have stepped
into it and uh, gonna make the most of it.
Speaker 5 (16:29):
Else can this trip next?
Speaker 9 (16:32):
Each trip kind of help with prodried or chim Billy
is going to get away?
Speaker 14 (16:37):
And especially sure it can be good, you know, as
long as you come into the right mindset, you know,
trying to get something out of it and not looking
at it as a on a an.
Speaker 6 (16:47):
Escape or a vacation. You know, you've you've got to
look as a way to get better.
Speaker 14 (16:50):
You get and compete against you know, some of the
very best and in the position across the league.
Speaker 6 (16:54):
So you know, take it as a challenge.
Speaker 14 (16:57):
Uh, use these these different looks, these different players as
a as a uh way to grow uh as a
as a player and a teammate, as a leader, and
uh you know, just look forward to uh no working
with your brother. No uh t take her with a
smile on your face and and uh no, continue to
attack the role every time.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Sometimes where she can set it's flat go getting grow
up there.
Speaker 11 (17:20):
Sometimes where she could set this flat o guy in
practice for help, like get.
Speaker 14 (17:26):
Mander's a play when when he was on the jets
where I had him dead to rights and I got
snagged down by the back of.
Speaker 6 (17:35):
My shoulder pads and it it was fourth quarter. They
were making their comeback and out of ended the game.
Speaker 14 (17:39):
And I'll never forget that look at his face every
time we sit close to each other in t meeting.
But I get I've I've done buried the hatchet and
uh glad to see him with us, see the good guys.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Oh don't your regulars class.
Speaker 9 (17:51):
That's a doing uh with you kind of helping the
one uh get ready for whatever he's.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
For your faces season.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
Nope, continue to you know, build his confidence s.
Speaker 14 (18:00):
I know it could be difficult sometimes if I if
I make a play or if I beat him, but
you know, just just trying to coach 'em through, you know,
some things that I see or what I'm doing. And uh,
I can continue to improve his technique and his fundamentals
and and I think the main thing for him is
confidence and being on the left side, you know, making
sure that he knows he he's capable of, uh you know,
(18:22):
winning on that side and dominating on that side.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
It's just a matter of you know, switching those fundamentals
a little a little bit, you know, and uh no,
sticking with it. No.
Speaker 14 (18:30):
Sometimes think he gets in his head a little bit,
but I I, I know he has to the the
ability to go out there and dominate on you know,
the left side or the rights or whatever the he's
called to do.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
So why does it take you? Where did he they stray?
Where is the screen? Any present post sitting plus the
applemuniy uh really just just China place.
Speaker 14 (18:49):
To stas bass boy, I've seen us scroll the most, uh,
I would say in the maturity, you know, just just
stepping up a a lot of guys were you look
for me? Obviously you're younger last year, but I don't
feel like they they knew they had a voice. And
leadership comes to you know, any year, you know, whether
(19:10):
you're year one, year nine, you know, you step up
to the role and you're able to lead by your
actions and and by your words.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
I feel like guys don't understand that.
Speaker 14 (19:20):
No year one, you lead by by example, by no
sudden setting example, every single day, no Carson going out
there and getting extra reps. And when we're running, no
skills and bigs, he's he's up there with the you know,
the the top three fastest guys. And that's how he leads,
for example, and and and not necessarily with his voice.
And I continue continue to see him do that, and
that's how.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
He grows in that role. And I've seen some of
the the linemen do that as well, especially the young guys.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Finally, quarterback Joe Flacco talks about what he was able
to accomplish during the joint practice.
Speaker 9 (19:51):
Again, so how do you fail to go, you know,
against different paces, different voice today.
Speaker 11 (19:57):
Yeah, it's always a little bit fun.
Speaker 15 (19:58):
I mean, back in the day it used to be
like nice breaking camp, but today it was you know,
it's it's not as much needed, but it's always good
to go against somebody else. See some different jerseys over there,
and and you know, kind of put yourself a test.
Speaker 11 (20:10):
A little bit out. Yeah, the big offense.
Speaker 15 (20:14):
Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing at least. I
think it's been a point of emphasis for us like
this camp. Uh, pre snap penalties, you know, like sometimes
the stuff during the snap, like when you're playing, you know,
it's the pre snap ones is the one that we
can control. It's all mental and I think we did
have some of those today, And like I said, it's
been a point of emphasis for us throughout the whole camp.
So to come out here and get against another team
(20:34):
where maybe you're a little bit more revved up.
Speaker 11 (20:36):
That I think that showed today. So we just we
need to you know, just need to refine a little bit.
Speaker 15 (20:40):
And this is probably a good environment for that because
it allows you to realize, like, man.
Speaker 11 (20:45):
Maybe I was a little bit maybe I went a
little overboard.
Speaker 15 (20:47):
And allows you to kind of the next time you're
faced with that, to relax a little bit more and.
Speaker 11 (20:52):
And uh, just go play your game.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
A problem in two weeks.
Speaker 15 (20:57):
I think it's been something that we've been constantly on.
You know, there has there's been days where we've been
really good, and there's been days where we've been not
been good enough. I definitely think today was a little
bit more so and I and I think that's natural,
but you know, it's it's very controllable, so you don't
want to see it. So what do you feel likes
better and is getting better out of word week three
(21:18):
a game, but that you've had.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Two four weeks for your gamers.
Speaker 15 (21:21):
There's a little bit of it that's tough to say because,
like you know, there's only a certain amount of reps
out there, but guys are competing, you know, guys are
really getting after it. I think they're starting to little
I think they're starting to as much as they can
learn a little bit about themselves and be able to
dig a little bit.
Speaker 11 (21:35):
Deeper and realize they're they're starting to.
Speaker 15 (21:37):
Kind of the light bulbs coming on of what it's
going to take to be that consistent, you know team
that we want to be. I think we I think
this organization has been close over the years. You know,
we've had some good teams here. Now it's just about
getting that consistency that that that competition up every single
day to push ourselves.
Speaker 9 (21:54):
Would be interesting to see from the schedule now that
we have something can start up riding.
Speaker 11 (21:58):
Oh, it'll be interesting.
Speaker 15 (22:00):
I think we'll all be you know, sitting there watching
and be excited for you know, football to be going
real time. And I think he's probably excited about that too.
I mean, your first time to go in the NFL.
Speaker 11 (22:09):
I remember mine.
Speaker 15 (22:10):
I mean I didn't get to play until the last
two minutes of the game. But uh, it's something that
he'll remember forever. I mean, you know, most of us
haven't dreamt about this moment, you know, since we were five, six, seven,
eight years old. Uh, So for him to get a
chance to go out there and actually take the field,
even though it's preseason, you know, we'll we'll we're all gonna.
Speaker 11 (22:27):
Be on the sidelines and at home and enjoying it.
So exhibition up for sure.
Speaker 15 (22:33):
You know, it's so funny because like I don't really
think of it that way. You know, we're just kind
of going to work every day and doing our job
and we're in the room together. But yeah, that'll, that'll
make it exciting.
Speaker 13 (22:46):
Handed tips now that you've played with them for three weeks,
practice with them.
Speaker 11 (22:52):
Yeah, Jerry's good. Yeah, he's he's a difference maker.
Speaker 6 (22:55):
He is.
Speaker 11 (22:56):
I'm excited for him.
Speaker 15 (22:58):
You know, because I think obvious he's not with the
team that he was drafted by. So I think he's
got a little chip on his shoulder, just like all
of us do in this league for one reason or
the other.
Speaker 11 (23:06):
And you can tell that he's a difference maker. So
I'm excited for it, for the things he's doing.
Speaker 12 (23:09):
Children shoulder kind of progressing just away from this, you know,
away from you know, when he's out there just in
the media rooms.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
I mean, I have you noticed a difference in him.
Speaker 15 (23:21):
I think he's come in from day one with a
pretty good, you know, head on his shoulder, is a
pretty good like method about how he.
Speaker 11 (23:28):
Thinks he should do things.
Speaker 15 (23:29):
And I think we've all been in that room together
and all picked up little things from each other. So
I think he's just staying the course and you know,
and and continuing to try to grab a thing here
and there.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
How about the dynamic of the room that you have
an event day? We did two to day's stuff.
Speaker 6 (23:46):
You know.
Speaker 15 (23:47):
It's funny because I really don't want to be that guy,
but every single day there's something that comes up like that,
and then you get in the moment, you start telling
stories and you can't help I can't help myself.
Speaker 11 (23:57):
So yeah, there's been a little bit of that. We
did it, No, we didn't.
Speaker 15 (24:04):
It's funny though, because like he you know, man, he
I was telling a couple of the guys as I
left the huddle today, like he's got the biggest smile
on his face, holding his hand out, giving you a
high five, got the biggest smile on his face. It's
a reminder of like, you know, he just feels blessed
to be out here and be on the grass playing football.
And you know, we talked Baltimore a little bit because
he was in Baltimore and spent some time with those guys,
(24:25):
so we kind of know what that's about.
Speaker 11 (24:28):
But he see, he seems great.
Speaker 15 (24:29):
Honestly, he plays cut the market, that's right. Yeah, Well,
like Lamar was there and then he was Yeah he
was the year. I think he was that next year.
Speaker 11 (24:39):
I think, Joe, how is.
Speaker 13 (24:41):
It that the forty year old guy, he's the only quarterback.
Speaker 9 (24:44):
In this competition that has kind have missed of Sam
with drill a roup because of.
Speaker 5 (24:49):
Soreness, injury or wherever.
Speaker 15 (24:52):
Hey, listen, I think I mean, who knows why I'm
why I'm the one guy. But I think the fact
that I am forty in here is just like I've
been fortunate with my body. I've learned how to take
care of it. I mean, there is part of me
that wish is we were doing three hour practices because
I could show that I could last through those two
It's not that much of an accomplishment to kind of
(25:13):
come out here and make it through a training camp.
But I do feel like if we were grinding three
hours two and a half hours every day, I could
still go through that too. I wish I could show
that a little bit. But hey, you know, I think
some of it. A lot of it is taking care
of your body and learning how.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
To do that.
Speaker 11 (25:28):
You gain knowledge as you're in the league.
Speaker 15 (25:29):
But also, like you just you know, throughout my football career,
I've had a couple injuries, but most of them all
I've been pretty fortunate on just what I've.
Speaker 11 (25:37):
Been you know, what I've been given and the situations
I've been given.
Speaker 14 (25:40):
So Joe one today to next week, certain place you
want to be your think thiss onfic steeds to be.
Speaker 6 (25:45):
When you come outilly into the strategy.
Speaker 15 (25:47):
Listen, You'll love to just come out here and go
against teams and just gain confidence. You want to see
guys like you want to be able to look in
guy's eyes after your rack and like see them be excited.
So I know that's not like a specific goal or anything,
but when guys start to get excited about like what
we could be like, you can feel that and that
(26:09):
does matter. You know, good teams they know how to
win because they believe throughout the whole sixty minutes that
they're going to win. So it would be really big
if you can start to get some of.
Speaker 11 (26:21):
That and you can see the belief in guys.
Speaker 13 (26:25):
How many two practice since you get your.
Speaker 15 (26:29):
Not a lot, not until like maybe my sixth year
or something. Seventh year, we we we practiced against stan
France early on.
Speaker 11 (26:35):
We did not do a lot.
Speaker 15 (26:37):
Yeah, oh that's interesting. I think I feel like before
I came in the league, like there was a decent
amount of it. I could be wrong in saying that,
and maybe it's kind of there wasn't for a little bit.
I think with listen, I think a lot of coaches
have relationships with each other. It's a nice way to
break up camp, it's a nice way to compete.
Speaker 11 (26:59):
It seems as though everybody's doing it.
Speaker 15 (27:02):
I think there's Listen, I think there's definitely some positives
in it, but also like it's not all positive. You
have to be willing to like take a travel day
and another travel day, and you have one of those
teams has to be willing to do that. I think
there was a time where you just wanted to go, go, go,
go go, So you have to, like, you have to
be able to manage that throughout camp. You can't just say, hey,
(27:23):
we're gonna have joint practices and we're gonna miss a
day here because we gotta travel and we're gonna do this.
I think you I think when you do it, you
just have to be aware that you're gonna maybe miss
out on a little bit of like actual field time.
So you got to make the most of it when
you do have it. And then you got to make
the most of these practices when you do them.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
There's joy the wine.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
If you were you were talking about how much you
still want to start this game, because you kind of
addressed that you're you're not you're just adding the college
find anywhere. Yeah, you're you're you're going for it here.
Speaker 15 (27:51):
Yeah, listen, that's why we play the game, right, you know,
we play to play. That's what gets us all going,
uh yeah, it's you do get game perspective and when
you go take that, just like I was talking about Tyler,
like when you're out in the grass in practice, you
can remind yourself, wow, this is like cool that we're
out here. But the end goal is to is to
be the guy on the field playing playing the football games.
(28:13):
That's why we all do it.
Speaker 11 (28:15):
That's as simple as you know, It's as simple as.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Against What is the next step?
Speaker 12 (28:20):
Do you feel like over you know, as you go
through next week in Philly, is there a specific thing
you feel like is this has to be a point
of emphasis, This have to be clean this up in
anything in particularly, you feel.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Like is the next step?
Speaker 15 (28:34):
I think we have our goals and like how we
want to play the game, they're not necessarily like like
hurdles to get over, but there are standards that we
hold ourselves to, and I think when you go and
your practice against other teams, when you practice against yourself, you.
Speaker 11 (28:49):
Have to hold yourself to those standards.
Speaker 15 (28:51):
And the more that guys start to do that and
you feed off of each other, the more you start
to see results when you're going in these practices. Yeah,
I guess you could set certain goals, but those things
are hard like to get like an actual measurable thing
until you start playing football games and tackling for real.
Speaker 11 (29:10):
Even when we go from thud to live in.
Speaker 15 (29:12):
Our practices versus ourselves, there's a difference, you know. So
we just have to make sure we're holding ourselves to
the standards that we've outlined and we can all see
every single day. And I think as long as we're
doing that, then we're moving in the right direction.
Speaker 9 (29:26):
So with you know anything now being to bang up,
I mean, can you start to see the vision?
Speaker 5 (29:34):
Can you start to feel like maybe you're gonna be
the gun?
Speaker 15 (29:38):
I listen, I'm not trying to look into that too much.
I can say that when you get a little bit,
it's still not like, Okay, I went from three reps here,
three reps there to a little bit more, not like
a ton more, but a little bit more.
Speaker 11 (29:51):
I mean, just that little bit.
Speaker 15 (29:53):
You know, you can you can start to feel like
yourself getting the groove and you calm down a little bit.
It's just human nature, like when you're getting two reps
three reps to like, oh, this has to be perfect,
and when you feel that way, you're not going to
be as good. So to like to be able to
like relax a little bit, let it loose, and like
get a little bit more.
Speaker 11 (30:10):
It just it just feels right, you know what I mean.
Speaker 15 (30:12):
So I'm not gonna look into what it means, but
it definitely feels good to be out there.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
Is the difficult You have to rush the rush that
process you're meaning.
Speaker 10 (30:19):
I know, Kevin and how me fodcock Rise and beat
este Drive, and you've talked sort of about beating process driven.
Help them because it not to rush, not to you know,
kind of get it out of over your skis and
trying to watch.
Speaker 11 (30:30):
I'm not worried one bit, man.
Speaker 15 (30:32):
I'm just out here enjoying it and doing the best
I can every single day, trying to show these guys that, man.
Speaker 11 (30:37):
I can do it.
Speaker 15 (30:39):
You should have confidence in me. When I talk to
my wife at night, you know, maybe she has. She's
she's not as patient. But listen, I'm having a lot
of fun just going out there and slinging it around
to practice right now, and I'm I'm doing a good
job of just kind of keeping my feet where they are,
and that's all I can do right now.
Speaker 12 (30:58):
When the guys see that, when they see a veteran
like you guys who's COMPLI do you think that it
helps them to also kind of take that feet.
Speaker 6 (31:07):
Off that that I hope.
Speaker 15 (31:08):
So, I hope so I think I do think. Yeah, Like,
no matter, I don't care if you're a veteran or not.
But when you have guys on your team that remind
other guys just by what the way they do it that, man,
this is just a game, like take this weight off
my shoulders and let's go play. That's gonna help everybody
play to their best ability. And I hope I can
(31:29):
do that.
Speaker 6 (31:30):
Have you seen your handle them.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Open injuries and kind of.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
The importance of these rams, but how.
Speaker 11 (31:38):
You seen them handle that parts?
Speaker 15 (31:42):
Yeah, listen, they're great. I mean they've been doing a
great job. I mean you can tell, like with Kenny,
he's been out like the last week. You can tell,
like you can just see it on his face and
he's itching to get back out there. And you know,
they've all been great in the meeting room, very attentive
and asking questions and you know, it's been a great
room so far.
