Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, the culture of this team and where we're at
as a group of men that like being around each
other and want to win for the city of Cleveland,
Like it's never been higher since I've been here.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
This is the Cleveland Browns Preview Shows. This is your
chance to get an in depth preview of the week
ahead in Borea. The Cleveland Browns Preview Show is presented
by Tostitos, the official chip and dip partner of the
Cleveland Browns. This is the University Hospital's Cleveland Browns Radio Network.
(00:58):
Here are your hosts, Kim Carr, named Girard Cherry.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
And Good Evening, one and all, and welcome to the
Cleveland Browns Previews Show, the preseason Week three edition, as
your Cleveland Browns are finally back home at Huntington Bank
Field in downtown Cleveland, Ohio to take on the Los
Angeles Rams. Good Evening, Friends, Ken Garmon alongside of Gerrod Cherry,
Gerrod Good.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Evening, my friend, Good Evening, Kenneth Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
There's no time like the President to get going with
four downs, First down Wether Browns. After starting quarterback for
Week one versus Cincinnati, It's Joe flaccoho is going to
lead the Browns on a Huntingdon Bank field on September seventh. Gerrod,
your thoughts on Joe's training camp and the rest of
the QB competition.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
Well, I've definitely think Joe put out there a great
professional effort. It was nothing where you walked away from experience.
Every time you're out there watching him place sitting yourself.
He doesn't belong under center at the number one QB
spot for starters, and just again the eighteen years of experience,
it shows up on a regular basis when you watch
him play very calm, very when you look at our
(02:00):
openings season and our schedule, Kin, that's what you do
want the helm. So I've been impressed with what I've
seen out of Joe. Like I said, nothing overwhelming and
nothing underwhelming, just calm and steady. And far as the
quarterback competition has gone, I really think it never developed
once guys started getting injured, so pretty much by default
guys started getting certain positioning and really couldn't claim anything
(02:22):
due to the fact that simply put, if you're in
the tup, it's hard to be a second or a starter.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
And on the club, well, you know, you go back
to Kenny Pickett and the thoughts on him, and I'm
sure that there was definitely big conversations being had.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
I mean, you think about it.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
He was really the first guy in the quarterback room
for this year, so there were probably big conversations about
possibly giving him the chance to start and start week
one that kind of went out the window. And I've
been a believer in Joe Flacco at least to start
the year since they were able to acquire at Joe.
I thought putting the band back together might be able
to help. I don't know how much it's going to
help this year. I mean, you do have some rookies
there behind him, and we'll talk about them here in
(02:59):
just a moment. But when you have Joe, he's a
guy that I think Joel Botonio trusts. He's a guy
that Wyatt Teller Ethan Posts like I think Dwan Jones
can trust to lead them down the field and be
able to play good, complimentary football. Now the question is
going to become Jerrod. Joe does have a propensity to
turn the ball over. He can be free wheeling in
his own right. You have to make sure to mine
(03:20):
the p's and q's In twelve personnel being the run,
being able to run the ball, and I'm going to
steal one directly from you. You're going to sue me
for intellectual property theft complimentary football, complimentary football, not turning
the ball over like crazy like you did last year,
and putting your defense in a very bad position, especially
(03:41):
at the start of these football games, where you find
yourself in a fourteen to nothing hole that's hard to
climb out of it because you're figuring yourself out on offense.
It's going to be interesting to see how they're able
to do that, and they're going to have to be
able to run the ball with some consistency, eliminate the
pre snap penalties, and be able to play that com
complimentary football to be able to help that defense. People
think it's going to be having a bounce back season
(04:02):
in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 5 (04:03):
Drop, And I like the way you characterize that kid
and the thing that Joe really has to concentrate on,
because you mentioned it is this idea of gambling taking chances,
but really will be better served for this offense is
being a game manager and not going out there and
proving that you still have the ability of finite through
tight winners in all circumstances that may lead to a
turnover or taking unnecessary chances. Now, if you have a lead,
(04:25):
then I understand and respect that and get that. But yeah,
Joe really will have to go into his manage the
game mode more often than not. And I think if
he can do that and cut down on the interceptions,
that will certainly help the cause in playing compromary football.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Now, the big conversation, now, I think your show's had,
My show's had, Every show in Cleveland and around the
country has had has been about these rookies. Dylan Gabriel,
he played on Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles. What did
you think of Dylan Gabriel and watching him on Saturday?
And then of course we'll make the comparison between him
and shud Or Sanders.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
Well, if you take out the interception in the fumble,
it was a phenomenal football game played on his part.
He looked at great command of the office. And one
of the bread and butter situations of a quarterback where
you can really make a name for yourself is what
you do in adverse situations on third down where the
defense knows you have to pass and you're still able
to complete passes with pressure and understanding that coverages dictate
(05:16):
that they want you to pass with understanding that you're
more likely gonna do it, and he did very well
in that. Obviously, we go back to the interception. That's
something that one, you just can't make that throw and
understanding that you don't throw in a crowded situation like that,
And then the fumble that's an issue of timing and
footwork that they obviously have to work on as well.
So those things are correctable and fixable. But I must say,
(05:36):
outside of the interception in an other turnover, I thought
he did phenomenally well in his effort because it was impressive.
It really was.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
And now we get ready for this third preseason game,
the final preseason game. It will be the dress rehearsal.
What do you think you're expecting to see? I don't
mean to be putting carts before horses. We'll talk about
this game, but honestly, Drodd, what do you think you're
gonna see? Out of the quarterbacks there? It seems that
Joe's gonna play in the rest rehearsal, and then we
might be handing it over to.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Three other guys. If shod or is able to go.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Maybe he'll play Dylan Gabriel looks like he'll have his chance,
and maybe even Tyler Huntley by the end of it.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Yeah Snoop may gets a run as well. But I'm expecting,
hopefully to see at least a series or two and
successful ones out of our starting office with Joe Flacco
at the helm, in which they march up and down
the football field, because I'm pretty certain that the Rams
aren't even flying, they're ones out to the game in
the first place. So yeah, you have a lesser opponent
if you will, but you still got to respect that. Hey,
(06:29):
they're professional athletes, So go up and down the football field,
control the game, and impose your will is what I
want to see. And I want to see obviously affluidity
to the game, and I want to see what you
talked about earlier, complimentary football. I want to see us
create turnovers. I want to see us score and take
advantage of it. And I want to see his control field position.
If we could do that in the first quarter and beyond,
that'll be a great auting. Don't care who the quarterback is.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Time for second down, second down, So we mentioned shad
Or Sanders. He did return to practice today, albeit in
a limited capacity, said he's dealing with a thumb injury
right now. Didn't practice today. Denzel Ward day to day
with a right shoulder injury he suffered in Tuesday's practice.
Thank goodness, there were a lot of folks who were
holding their breath. We found out a little bit later
on on Tuesday evening. He looks like he's going to
(07:13):
be okay, albeit day to day. Kenny Pickett, he's not
gonna play against the Rams because of that hamstring. So
for Kenny not going to see him all throughout preseason,
kind of that million dollar question of what's going on.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
I don't know really what to do with them.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
I know that you could keep four quarterbacks here as
we get set to trim this roster down to fifty three.
He has a guy they traded for. Is there a
plan that you would have there, Gion?
Speaker 5 (07:35):
Oh? Really, the question becomes how comfortable are you with
the young guys? Are you comping up with them to
have one to send to the two spot? Opposed to
Kenny Pickett in that he's a veteran, he's been in
the role before, and he was on a Super Bowl
winning football team in the process of being in that
role with Philadelphia, do you want to take a chance
there now? Last year and years prior, we took a
chance with that, and some would say that it did
(07:57):
not work out in our favorite too extent, So do
you do you take the route of more cautiousness and
go with a proven veteran over a young rookie. So
that's really what you have to weigh. And at the
same time, if you're Kenny, boy, what a rough spot
to be a kid, because on one hand is like, Okay,
this is supposed to be my opportunity to have a
Sam Darnold like situation, and now find myself in the
(08:18):
spot to where I may not even be on the
football team or at least may be relegated to be
in the two because my hamstream gave out on me
doing of course a training camp.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Well, Drodd, you and I were together that Friday night
of the draft and we were interviewing draft picks and
they were saying and they mentioned on their own how
Kenny Pickett had texted them when they got drafted. So
there was a leadership role that he was trying to
take over with this football team and rightfully. So there's
an opportunity there for him. He's the young guy out
of the group at that time, he's twenty six years old.
You know, there's a chance to resurrect your career, so
(08:48):
to speak. With this Cleveland Browns football team, that opportunity
as of right now has been taken away from him.
I could see them going into the season with four quarterbacks.
I would condone them going into the season with four quarterbacks.
But there's so many different things that can happen. You
know that there's a slot corner situation that we gotta
get figured out. There's a running back room situation that
we got to get figured out. We've already started to
(09:09):
circle some of the guys a little bit deeper on
the depth charts and some of the other places around
the league that we got to get figured out. Jerome
Ford again, you're gonna have to play him out of
a spot that you'd like to play him in. I
think I'd love to see him in third down situations,
but because of the hold up with Gwin Shawn Jenkins,
We're probably gonna have to play Jerome Ford again in
a spot that maybe he's not best used in. It's
gonna be putting a lot of pressure on Dylan Samson
(09:30):
and whoever they bring in. So now there is a
lot of chess pieces that have to move before Tuesday,
and then of course after that, Jerrod, we're gonna be
looking at some of the waiver while our pieces that
are gonna be out there with some of those veterans
who can help.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Out the screw.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
Yeah, and the thing that you want to do if
you're on this roster, you want to give him reasons
not to look in that direction. You're receiver. You have
ample opportunity to make this squad, but you can't make
it dropping passes or having the right the wrong rather
route distribution as well. So there's chances out here for
you to make it an opportunity. Will be a better
way of putting it in the same thing with a
defensive back position because right now nickel dime, fourth corner,
(10:05):
fifth corner, sixth corner, I feel that those things are
wide opening for the taking. But someone needs to step
up and take it, and this weekend will be another
opportunity to do just that.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Opportunities galore right now. Also, the Browns made a trade
today Juwan Briggs, defensive tackle twenty six. He was the
seventh rounder they traded. Excuse me, they traded a twenty
twenty twenty six seventh rounder to the Jets for a
twenty twenty six sixth rounder. So you trade trade Juwan
(10:34):
Briggs and a seventh rounder to the Jets for a
sixth rounder. There, Brown's feeling pretty good about their defensive tackles.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
And they should feel really good about the defense of
lining is attired and don't be surprised if some more
people coming calling asking for the talent that we have
on our defensive front, because it has been impressive throughout
the entirety of training campus. So this is one the
first domino to fall for as people going after our
defensive linment. And it doesn't surprise me because we are
deep in that position. And as you know, Ken, that's
(11:02):
one of the best positions to be deep in because
all games are still to this very day one and
lost in the trenches.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Time for third down, Third down.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Los Angeles Rams coming to town on Saturday are one
of the finest coaches you're gonna find in the NFL
Super Bowl champion local guy from the state of Ohio,
Sean McVay coming to town with that Rams team, and
as you know, you said it, they don't play veterans,
and right now they don't have a lot of veterans
that I think that they would like to play their
roster going through a little bit of a transition. But
Sean McVay has been able to coach him up Dry.
Speaker 5 (11:32):
Yeah, he's certainly is a premier coach, and I believe
he went to Miami and when you go to University
of Miami, you see that those statues of coaches cradle
and what it represents is so impressive what this state
produced as far as football coaches are concerned, it's extremely impressive.
Be he falls in line with that. His perspective is
that last preseason game, I want my veterans know where
(11:52):
to be seen in that game, and that's his thought
process and how he goes about doing it. For us,
I wouldn't recommend that because Joe Flacco has not seen
that much opportunity in regular games and I would like
to not have a whole month go by without my
quarterback participating in them. But far as the game is concerned,
you figure these guys on the Rams and assim of
both that our twos and threes are in. They're trying
(12:12):
to do what make an NFL roster?
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Yeah. Rams.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
In twenty twenty four, they were coming off a ten
and seven season. I think a lot of people were
wondering if this was going to be the downfall. Matt
Stafford's health was brought into question. They still went ten
and seven. They finished first to the NFC West. They
were able to get to the divisional round of the playoffs,
where they lost to the Vikings, the eventual Super Bowl champs.
I think the Rams are a fun team for a
lot of fans out there because they're so aggressive. I mean,
(12:36):
we always know about what they thought about picks years ago.
We're not allowed to say that on the radio. As
they were celebrating their Super Bowl. Less need an aggressive
general manager his hoard in hand with Sean McVay. They're
not afraid to shake things up to go after obviously
Matt Stafford, but other guys around the league to add
to this football team. And so far it's really worked
for them. The bottom is not falling out the way
that we fear with a lot of other football teams
(12:58):
when they go veteran heavy, right.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
It certainly was a situation where I thought after their
Super Bowl, they put everything, all their chips on the
table and they cashed out and won a Super Bowl.
But to their credit, they're still viable. They're still winning games.
But I will say this kid, Matthew Stafford's back is
an issue and a problem for this football team. It is,
and that if you're getting epidurals in order to get
through a practice or be able to practice, that's only
(13:21):
gonna last so long. At some point, someone's gonna hit you,
and that back is going to hurt. And if he's
if he's not operating the helm, I'm not trusting that
anyone else in that squad is gonna be able to
take him to the level. He's so poignant and key
to their success. So I could see a situation where
his back simply won't hold up, and that could be
the doom and the end of their season.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
Well, behind him, they got Jimmy Garoppolo, they got Stetson Bennett,
you remember him.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
They could be a team.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
That's active this at this deadline here before the start
of the regular season. If there's maybe a trade that
they can make for one of the other teams. I
know that you know Anthony Richardson's a big conversation piece.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
Now.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
I don't know if he's a veteran guy that they
would like, but you're always gonna have when you're a
team that's dealing with a guy who's a great player
in Matthew Stafford, I mean, one of the best to
do it in the generation. But when he's dealing with
those injuries, these are conversations. You have to have time
for fourth down.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Fourth down?
Speaker 3 (14:13):
All right, this is the toughest part of what we do,
and we're not the ones we even have to make
the decision bubble time coming up on Saturday's game. Can
one preseason game make a difference for a guy on
a bubble.
Speaker 5 (14:25):
Yeah, it certainly can. It could be what convinces them
that you belong on this roster. And it could also
confirm that you do not belong on this roster and
that you need to go elsewhere, or that you should
not be in the National Football League, or maybe relegated
a practice squad. It could do just all that and
then some. So yes, well, last preseason game certainly can
be a situation in which you can make a statement,
(14:46):
be a positive or negative.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Well, you go back to Mark Shalareth Maye Mark Schalaith
had that conversation, and I know that sometimes there's controversial
opinions that he shared among Browns fans, but he fought
crazy for that fourth preseason game because he said, that's
how got a chance in the NFL was in the
fourth preseason game. We remember the Brian Hoyer situation years
ago in that fourth preseason game. So yeah, there's definitely
chances that you can get where you make that fifty
(15:11):
three man roster, that's the changeover that you get. But
now you have fewer chances against live competition. So yeah,
and especially on this football team where again you're trying
to find that nickel slot safety, you're trying to find
guys at the back end of your wide receiver room.
You want to be able to say, hey, I've been
in camp this whole time. You absolutely can trust me.
You don't need to go looking in another direction. After Tuesday,
(15:31):
where you have that week off before the season starts
in earnest, and that is four downs to open up
tonight's show, folks, remember this month's winner of the Local

and we'll look ahead to Saturday's pre season finale against
the Los Angeles Rams. Coming up next, Rod goes one
on one with Brown's defensive end Julian Aquara. You're listening

and Gerrod got to sit down and go one on

Julian Aquara.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
Julian from Colt. I'm from Charlotte as well, so it's
a pleasure to talk to me. The starters, my man
way to represent for the city.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
Got to with that.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
But it how does it feel to be in the
Browns uniform?
Speaker 6 (17:02):
Man?
Speaker 5 (17:03):
And you've been impressive and started training camp up to
all these preseason games. What's been the connection for you
that things seem to be working so well?
Speaker 6 (17:10):
Yeah, I mean for me.
Speaker 7 (17:13):
Obviously going to year six, new defense, new team, I
didn't want to make this year, to make this year
the same as I've done the past five six years.
You know, I feel like I've been personally just growing
closer to God and just putting things in his hand,
taking things day by day and trying to trying to
honestly just put the best tapes I can out there,
trying to take one play to one play at a time,
(17:34):
not to not think about the good plays, but even
after a good play, thinking about I need more. I mean,
it's really not just enough for me. I know the
work and effort and the plays you gotta make to
you even stick around in this league and make sure
your name is called every game, make sure your name
is sticking out every practice year out in the field.
So I try not think things for granted and just
try to go out there and perform put everything I can,
you know, and at the end of the day, just
leave it, leave it up to God, and however things
(17:56):
end up playing out, then so be it nice.
Speaker 5 (17:58):
And you feel the connection of your faith with your
play is allowing you to be more focused, more in
tune in to what you need to do as a player.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 7 (18:06):
I mean I try to. I feel like going to
Notre Dame huge Catholic school. Honestly, I don't. I don't
know if I took my faith as serious back then
we went to Mass and all that stuff, but it
was still kind of something that I would kind of
go to and not really necessarily think about it. But
the more you get older, I feel like a lot
of that stuff comes to kind of sit back in
the back of your mind, like why am I not
(18:26):
getting closer to God? Why why do I have all
this free time but don't spend five ten minutes reading
the Bible or reading the Word and stuff like that.
So I think me and my fiance and I just
try to, you know, make sure we're keeping each other
and checking that, and just make sure we're talking about God,
make sure i'm you know, whether journaling and just right
now my thoughts. You know, football kind of gets a
little hectic with everything lose fast, so trying to find
(18:47):
stillness in every day for me is definitely taking a huge,
huge impact on me. And you know, I help keep
things rolling and take it throughout the season.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
So say sixth year, you feel things to slow down
as well from a process standpoint, because again I mentioned
earlier that you're dominating truly are Is it just a
situation where you see things clear now with this experience.
Speaker 6 (19:10):
Yeah, I mean this defense is very D line friendly.
I would say.
Speaker 7 (19:14):
I'd say my first couple years in the league, I've
be playing outside linebacker, which kind of new for me.
I've been dropping reading coverage and all that stuff, and
it's kind of different when you're allowed to just go
go forward. Honestly, I feel like I played my best
ball moving forward and just attacking really, so it's kind
of funny that. I mean, honestly, you know, I kind
of wish, you know, I played playing this type of
defense my whole career and stuff like that. But you know,
things happen for a reason. I'm where I'm at for
(19:35):
a reason right now, so you know, just trying to
take things day by day. And I don't know if
it's necessarily like a slowing down thing.
Speaker 6 (19:40):
I assume. I think it's just really like.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
Go go, you know, go blow up a play or go,
I mean, run through somebody's face and stuff like that.
So it's really pretty much easy. I mean, it's just
the easiest way you can honestly teach a D line
and to play football just run through somebody.
Speaker 6 (19:52):
So for me, it's definitely been fun.
Speaker 7 (19:54):
You know, I want to keep definitely, you know, keep
things rolling and hopefully you know, be here and be
able to produce for this defense and team and I
just honestly do.
Speaker 5 (20:00):
My job and curiosity. You have Nigerian heritage, yep, how
did you get into football American football?
Speaker 6 (20:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (20:08):
For me, I mean I actually grew up in Nigeria,
lived in Nigeria for eight years. For moving here kind
of my cousin's played football a little bit, but I
didn't really. I didn't really care for football until about
like i'll probably say tenth grade kind of sounds late,
but yeah, I didn't play football till eighth grade.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
Played safety.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
My brother actually played football. My brothers both played football,
and my brother who played in the league also he
actually got cut from the middle school team, so I
still got bragging rights on him. You know, I got
to play my eighth grade year, and I honestly, I sucked, honestly,
but things happened for a reason. Got to high school
and my coach Adam Haysings back then. Yeah, I think
I walked on the field and I was like, yeah,
(20:47):
I want to play receiver, and he just pointed out
to where the defensive lineman was and I didn't even question.
I just ran over there. Didn't even know what I
was doing. But yeah, from then on, it's kind of
just playing defensive line the whole time. But yeah, I'll
probably say my brothers kind of got me into it.
I grew up a Panthers fan, watching Julius Pepper and
Steve Smith, all those guys. Musu Mohammad his kids went
to my school, and all those guys even in high
(21:07):
school during camp and stuff, they would come buy my
high school and run around the run around.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
The football field and even run routes out there.
Speaker 7 (21:13):
So it's kind of cool to have those guys kind
of right from my face knowing that I could do it.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
Especially have my brother go out to play Notre Dame.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
Having an immediate family member that went up to play
in the league, so obviously that's that stuff kind of
you know, motivates you a little bit and makes you
think you keep going. So for me, it was, I
mean kind of really just like a follower brother, see brother,
big brother do it, and kind of just do the
same thing. So yeah, I mean obviously grew my love
for football as soon as probably tenth eleventh grade and
then on to just obviously love the game and just
wanted to, you know, find ways to revive my family
(21:41):
and you know, make my name known.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
Now with the other Nigerian players there in the league,
you guys have like a chat group connect.
Speaker 7 (21:52):
Not necessarily there was an Instagram account in NFL Africa.
I think I think we kind of kind of not
necessarily don't know, we don't necessarily know each other, but uh,
on the field, I trying to make sure I you know,
kind of shot them out and say what's up to
them and kind of hear their story. It's kind of
funny some guys, uh, you know, we cross paths, whether
it's I know, my rookie year or something like that.
(22:12):
There was actually a dude who went to my He
was my brother's class a little bit, and he was
like in our like kind of grade school you call
it in Nigeria actually.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
And then he ended up being in the league.
Speaker 7 (22:22):
It was kind of crazy in the same locker room,
which is kind of crazy as I would have never
thought that would ever happened. So it's kind of crazy
how the world works sometimes. But I would't necessary say
we kind of we follow each other the new way,
but we kind of see everything through NFL Africa and
you know, obviously rooting for those guys who get their
chance to whether it come from Nigeria and through the
Pathway program or whether they just went to school in
America and you know, kind of like me, where they
(22:42):
went to school in America, went to college, you know,
I stuff, went through the whole process.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
It's a it's a very.
Speaker 7 (22:46):
Hard sport and I'm sure I'm sure they'll tell you
when they first started playing, they they weren't too good either.
But I feel like Nigerians were kind of gifted in
a way to work. They kind of learn learning things
pretty fast. We're pretty big, usually strong, you know, and
football you have those three things.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
A little bit, you might you got a pretty good shot.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
So all right, well I just did an ethnicity test
and I found that twenty six percent of my African
heritage from West Africa's Nigeria.
Speaker 6 (23:11):
Okay, okay, so we threw it. We might be all.
That's funny. No, it's actually funny. I mean, I mean
it's funny.
Speaker 7 (23:18):
You grow up and like your mom would be like, oh,
it's your aunt and uncle.
Speaker 6 (23:21):
I'm Mike. I'm there's no way this man is my
hont hole.
Speaker 7 (23:24):
But but like it's kind of the same thing. We're
all like brothers and coming from the same place and
stuff like that. So I'm sure we're relative in some way.
Speaker 6 (23:30):
Shape or form.
Speaker 7 (23:31):
So I'm sure I'm sure we got some blood ties somewhere.
Speaker 6 (23:34):
That's funny.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
Julian, thanks for the interviewing.
Speaker 6 (23:36):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Julian and Aquara in the players Spotlight Browns Fans out

This is Cleveland Browns dot Com slash Milkbone ten or
(23:59):
coming up here in just a few minutes. If there's
no Matt Stafford, who's the favorite now in the NFC West?
Gerald and I will break it down when we preview
the West of the AFC and the NFC. Next on
the Cleveland Browns Preview Show, presented by Tostitos, the official
chip and Dip partner of your Cleveland Browns, on the
University Hospitals Cleveland Brown's Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Welcome back to the Cleveland Browns Preview Show. The Cleveland
Browns Preview Show is presented by Tostitos, the official chip
and Dip partner of the Cleveland Browns. This is the
University Hospitals Cleveland Brown's Radio Network.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Usually it's a fight, but we're not going around the league.
We're previewing the AFC in the NFC West. But you
know a guy who used to play in the AFC West.
Speaker 5 (24:41):
Who's that?
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Von Miller. He said that Peyton Manning was the goat
over Tom Brady. Go after the man right now, Gerrod,
go go go, go go go right now, go get
him first of.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
All, that's the most acimine take I've heard in a
lifetime for starters.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
No, why can't he say that he won a super
Bowl with him? You won super bowls.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
And he doesn't. Apparently he doesn't follow fo ball history,
because how's one super Bowl experience with Peyton Manny even
come close to what Tom did in Tampa Bay. As
a matter of fact, I think take it there.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
I think with vonn is thinking, that's not a great argument,
because von again in the game and won a super
Bowl with Peyton man He had two bad hamstrings and
two bad thigh muscles.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
Man was forty years old, one another super Bowl and
a year probably that almost one another one say, and
did a walk off shot on top of that and
decided to come back. As a matter of fact, you
should respect the fact that the man loved football so
much he was willing to sacrifice his marriage. That alone
should get him proper.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
They love football so much? Or did he just want
to get out?
Speaker 3 (25:35):
You know what, I'm not gonna have that conversation right
then and there. I'm gonna move on to Peyton Manny.
He had bad quads. He had to do a walk
off shot.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
Because he couldn't run out.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
You couldn't run. Peyton couldn't run.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
You gave that fight up about eight years ago.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
Yeah, but von Miller didn't.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
All right, well, that's in the words of Terrell Owens.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
That's my quarterback, Miller.
Speaker 5 (25:58):
Some things weren't in my CBA when I was playing this.
Apparently it's working for him. I'll leave it that.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
Spye.
Speaker 7 (26:07):
See.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
I wish people could see Gibby's face right now, all right?
Factor fiction. Three teams from the AFC West make the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
Factor fiction.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
Jerrod go that is dang, that's a fact. Actually, I
could act. I can see the Charges making it. I
could certainly see the Broncos making it, and I could
definitely see the Chiefs making it.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
It gonna be the Raiders, No, sir, don't.
Speaker 5 (26:32):
See them making it. And I like Pete Carroll and
Tom Brady the owner as well.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
I don't I've been a Sean Payton Truther. They just
traded a wide receiver today, got a fourth round pick.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Saints. Boy, the Saints. I don't know what the Saints
are doing. They're going here there, They're neither here nor there.
What'd you say?
Speaker 5 (26:50):
I smoking the city right there?
Speaker 4 (26:54):
Yeah? I mean they could be playing. Yeah, there could
be three? All right? Fine? You know what, well, woymen women.
Only so many teams make the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
So if you got three teams making the playoffs, that
means all right, let's see.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
It's a possibility. Kid, that's I'd bean again they get
one of those positions sold quarterback.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
Do you think Cincinnati and Baltimore gonna make the playoffs
from the North?
Speaker 5 (27:16):
No, I think the Browns and the Ravens will make
it from the North.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Okay, I'll take that.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
I'm just wondering because it ain't gonna be anybody else
from the South except for the winner.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Right. Well, what do you think of the Patriots?
Speaker 6 (27:29):
Though?
Speaker 5 (27:30):
Ah? Yeah, no, they're going to be better. But I
can see a situation where they can get they can
get they don't get the not. I could totally see
a situation get the not. I mean, granted, I think
they're gonna do much better what they did last year.
But I could certainly see a situation where they do
not make it and only team representing the AFC East
is the Buffalo bill.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
The guy quite literally wearing North Carolina gear right now
is fading the New England Patriots.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Interesting to me?
Speaker 5 (27:57):
Yes's interesting? Yes, I am okay.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
If the Rams don't have Matt Stafford, who's the favorite
to win that division.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
NFC West, No, none, until until I find out he's
for sure focusing in tune with more than this call
of duty.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
No, that can't spun back. I mean they finished. They
actually surprised me.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
I don't have an apology because I was going in
on him and he turned it around. To his credit, John,
I will get that going.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:30):
Look but no, I'm I'm saying the forty nine's may
get back on track. So I could see that happening.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Well, that's actually one of the other questions in here,
factor fiction. The forty nine or super Bowl window with
this current team is closed.
Speaker 5 (28:45):
Who gosh, No, it's not. I mean, you still have
two premiere playmakers in Kittle and McCaffrey, so and you
have a quarterback who's really good. So you have that
going for you, and the defense is no slouch either,
So no, I say no. And you on top of that,
you have the one of the best, if not best.
I mean I keep calling him the best because any
read is in a conversation with that can't sleep on Shanahan.
(29:08):
He's one of the best in the business that call
him plays as well.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Yeah, I mean he's good. I really like that.
Speaker 5 (29:14):
Tom Brady just good.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
What do you I'm sorry, how many rings does he have?
He's been to the dance twice? I give him credit.
He's really, really, really good.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
You just said good dog. Now you godd in a
really to it.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
Okay, If you want me to rank the coaches in
the NFC West, I'll go ahead right now.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
I'm doing it, all right.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
It's it's Sean McVay, then him, then Jonathan Gannon, then
Mike McDonald.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
Is that fine?
Speaker 5 (29:40):
That's fair.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
I don't know why I'm getting all agitated and vulgar
and obnoxious.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
I apologize to Rod. I'm hearing my own echo again.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
I'm sorry. That's not your fault, Meredith. I'm just saying,
all right, forty nine ers window, well, I mean, the
playoff window is open. I don't think there's a Super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
Team any given Sunday.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Oh, come on, that's not even an answer any given Sunday.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
That's what we all say.
Speaker 5 (30:05):
Exactly have they been have they been to the dance before?
Didn't have experience? They know what takes requires for one
to get there?
Speaker 4 (30:12):
All right, Walker, So I'm sorry, it feels good this year?
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Okay, yeah, hell he feels good, and then we'll see
what happens. Yeah, September eighth, we'll find out how he feels,
all right. Ranked the a f C West quarterbacks from
best to number four, justin Herbert Gino, Smith, Patrick Mahomes,
Bo Nicks.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
Oh, you already know Number one is. Do you want
me to go the other way around Mahomes? Then I
am going to actually wow hmmm, m all right, Herbert,
I mean I want to say Nick, but I'm gonna
go Herbert Nix then then Gino.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Yeah that's how mine?
Speaker 3 (30:51):
Okay, yeah, yeah, that yeah, I agree with you all right.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
Now.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Now, Rank the a f C West coaches. Oh, we
already did the NFC West. We're gonna do the ANFC West. Here,
Andy Reid, Sean Payton, you tell I read over this
before we started Andy Reid, Sean Peyton, Jim Harbaugh, and
Pete Carroll.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Go ahead, right, that's a murderer's road right there.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
Right, yes, yes, gosh, yes.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
Okay, Andy Reid.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
Either won a super Bowl or been in a super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
Right, and then I'm gonna have to go Pete Carroll.
Then I'm gonna have to go m Harball. And then
I left Sean Payton out and he's won a super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
All right, here we go right now.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
This is as of today, This is as of August twentieth,
Andy Reid, Sean Payton, Jim Harball, Pete Carroll, and I'm
a Peyton denier. I do not like Peyton. I haven't
liked Peyton. We've been through this a million times. But
that team was not I don't think that team. I
(32:10):
thought that team was still a draft away from even
approaching the playoffs. Jim Harball, I thought had necessary pieces
to make the playoffs. I don't mean to take anything away.
This is an elite group here, but I'm gonna rank
him Andy Reid, Sean Payton, No, Andy Reid, Sean Payton,
Jim Harball, Pete.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
Caroll, just like it was love for Pete Carroll.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
I got plenty of love for Pete Carroll. I think
Pete Carroll's funny in not last in the league, it's
just last out of this group.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
These are elite coaches here. They're elite.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
I don't respect for elders.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
He's still elite. Is Andy Well?
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Andy Reid's a little bit younger than Pete Carroll. Andy
reads as old as the Hills too. None of these
guys are springing. Jim Harball and.
Speaker 5 (32:49):
Pete Carroll probably has ten years in all of them.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
Yeah, pe Pete Carroll, I mean that guy. That guy's
like one hundred and thirty.
Speaker 6 (32:57):
Seven years old.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
Yeah. I had a nice interaction with when I was
I'm on college, like hey man, as much to let
you know we're looking at you nice, like cool man,
make it happen.
Speaker 4 (33:05):
That's nice.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Andrew Siciliana, I'm going to join us on the show
coming up next. But that's how long he's been coaching.
Think about that.
Speaker 5 (33:11):
And I was hoping you'd ask me that brock Party
question because I was I had fire for you. Yeah,
all right, you.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Ask you what's the Siliana West? What's Siciliano coming up next?
On the Cleveland Browns preview show presented by Tostitos, the

Speaker 6 (33:29):

Speaker 1 (33:31):
This is Joel Metonio, and you're listening to the University
Hospitals Cleveland Browns Radio Network.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
University Hospitals is.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Your hometown Medical Teams, an official healthcare provider of the
Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Remember, the Cleveland Browns Preview Show is presented by Tostitos,
the official chip and dip partner of your Cleveland Browns.
As we get set for kickoff Saturday afternoon, one pm
at Hinton Bank Field and the man on the call
all across the University Hospitals Cleveland Browns Radio Network on
one Andrew Siciliano, who joins us right now on the hotline.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Hello Andrew Shadow.
Speaker 8 (34:00):
Then Hello, it's good to talk to you both. I
just told Meredith that I'm sitting here on for eighty
or eighty rather when the phone rang, it came up
as potential spam on ID. I just want you to
know you guys are far more important to me than spam.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
Well, I'm gonna tell you right now. It could be
a potential argument that you might have to settle because
we were just doing the AFC and NFC West. So
so now you know so I got you don't even
know the question. Drod was saying, I hope you asked
me the Brock pretty questions.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
So here we goy.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
Is is brock Party better than any of the four
AFC West QB's Girod, give your answer, then we'll see
if Andrew.
Speaker 8 (34:41):
Grees wait wait a AFC or NFC, af AFC American
Football Conference.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
I know you're on the phone, your drive AFC West
Quarterbacks American Football.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Conference, and I get Patrick Mahomes. Well, Girod, it says
any of them, any of them.
Speaker 5 (34:59):
He is better better that brock Party, being out of
three out of four, he's better than three out of four.
One he's not better than Andrew just said he's not
better than Patrick Mahomes. But I will say he's better
than Herbert. I will say he's better than Gino, and
I will say he's better than bow Knicks based upon
his body of work and what he's done thus far. Yes,
brock Party is better than three out of the four
in the AFC wes Ooh Andrew.
Speaker 8 (35:24):
All right, I'll give you a bow Knicks, although I'm
bullish on bow nicks in year two. You know, he's
he's only played one year.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
Gino.
Speaker 8 (35:34):
I mean, Gino's got the veteran swag, but I don't
give you he's better than Gino. Herbert is such a
tricky one because, like he threw a ball last week
of the first quarter against the Rams. You're like, there's
only like two or three humans who could who could
put that ball where he did? He Like, oh my,
like he's a golden god. But then again in crunch time,
(35:57):
we haven't seen it from justin Herbert. We just haven't
seen it yet. I'm gonna say push with Herbert. But
like when it comes to physical tools and arm talent, no,
Herbert is far better than Rock Party. But Purdy's got
He's got something to him clearly that has made him
(36:19):
from go from mister irrelevant to big contract that he
earned after.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
If the question was physical prowess and what that represents, oh,
Rock Party would be probably dead last. But this quarterback,
and that's the key part playing quarterback, because the greatest,
let me reiterate this, the greatest of all time. His
athletic quotient was not great at all.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
That I ain't been in ten years. Let's he had done.
Speaker 5 (36:48):
You could hate all you want to hate Kim, but
Tom Brady was not known for his athletic ability.
Speaker 8 (36:53):
He was known for that part I thought you were
talking about.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
You were talking about Tom Brady.
Speaker 5 (36:58):
Okay, well we already know that. Like, don't get me wrong,
Joe Montana is a beast, but we've already seld that conversation. Hell,
Joe even mint and Tom's better.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
I'm kidding, I'm kidding, all right, I'll say this to you,
you Rod.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Now, I don't usually like to drop names and all that,
So I have broken bread with brock Perty's daddy. But
you are letting your own thoughts, your own your disappointments
play into this. The reason you think he's better than
Justin Herbert is because it's exactly what interest said. We
are disappointed in it and Justin Herbert and what we
(37:33):
expected for him, while we are blown away by what
Brock Party has accomplished. So I'm gonna say, Maholmes, then
it's barely Justin Herbert, then brock Party, and then you
can figure out the rest I don't really care, Andrew, Can.
Speaker 5 (37:49):
I have the floor back?
Speaker 8 (37:50):
Police sleep wad.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Go ahead.
Speaker 5 (37:54):
I use the word as nine earlier, and I'll have
to use it again.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
Oh my gosh, you gotta be kidding me. You can't
over this man word.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
This man party was mister irrelevant. This man beat out
a guy who they traded the San Francisco forty nine
ers three gave up three first round draft picks for
Trey Lnz, who did not work out. Brock Perty saved
lights job, He saved Shanahan's job. He he saved a
(38:24):
bunch of jobs. And on top of that, this guy
duel with Patrick Mahomes in the overtime and loss in
the Super Bowl. Justin Herbert can defeat Patrick Mahons probably
in the regular season. So how in the world can
you possibly formulate the thought to say that this dude
is better than him when Brocket's been clushed to his
entire career.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
First, let's be serious, seventh round draft picks?
Speaker 5 (38:45):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Mister who has had the better overall team around them?
Rock Perty or Justin Herbert who has had the better
overall coaching around him? I mean, you're talking about Shanahan
here versus and I hate to say this because he's
a local guy. Staley, that one died in the mud
and Anthony Lynn wasn't able to get it done. For
crying out lot.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
Here, you said they had no weapons on the Chargers squad.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
They certainly have weapons on the Chargers squad. But look
at the embarrassment of riches that Brock Party had. And
I'm not gonna blame Rock Party because Trey Lance doesn't
know how to go through any progression.
Speaker 4 (39:16):
I'm sorry, sounds like doing it to be.
Speaker 8 (39:18):
So there's a different conversation here about Trey Lance that
is actually relevant today because of Anthony Richardson. And that
conversation Anthony Richardson has started between Florida and the Colts
twenty eight games, that's it. In comparison, Dylan Gabriel and
Chador Sanders have combined to start one hundred and thirteen
(39:43):
games just in college. In college. So what Trey Lance like?
You have to let that guy play, same with Anthony Richardson.
You gotta let him develop. But this is not a
developmental league, right, that's I took it.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
To different places right right place.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
To get back to the Browns I mean we are
getting ready for the Rams and Browns coming up on
Saturday and six degrees of second separation. They did once
play in the same city at Cleveland, Ohio, So yeah,
I mean that was Andrew.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
Go ahead, Grod, we gotta go quick, to go ahead.
Speaker 5 (40:16):
I tried to tell our friend this last week on
the Countdown Show, Andrew, that don't sleep on one Daniel Jones.
Speaker 8 (40:24):
Hey, Daniel Jones has won a road playoff game. Wow,
he's won a road playoff game.
Speaker 6 (40:30):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
He beat out Anthony Richardson. Congratulations on all yours.
Speaker 5 (40:38):
Now you're gonna minimize it now you get into Brockel treatment.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
All right, Andrew, I wish we'd had more time. Thanks
for being the referee. Of course you can listen to
Andrew coming up on Saturday. Andrew, thank you so much.
Speaker 8 (40:53):
Hey, one final thought, you have another mister irrelevant number
ninety four, guess one Johnson, the defensive lineman. I'm coming
to town with the Rams on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
So getting nice, perfect, Andrew, Thank you, my friend, the
great ANDREWT. Tociliano on the hotline. When we come back,
we'll preview what's coming up in the Kevin Stefanski Show.
You gotta fight Kevin over that, see what his thoughts are.
We'll preview what's coming up on the Kevin Stefanski Show,
and a Huntington will join the guys. He's had a
tremendous training camp and we'll preview Saturday's matchup against the Rams.
(41:27):
It's all coming up next on the Cleveland Browns Preview Show,
present up by Tostitos, the official chip and Dip partner
of your Cleveland Browns on the University Hospitals Cleveland Brown's
Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Welcome back to the Cleveland Browns Preview Show. The Cleveland
Browns Preview Show is presented by Tostitos, the official Chip
and Dip partner of the Cleveland brown This is the
University Hospitals Cleveland Browns Radio Network.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Game's coming up on Saturday, But first there's more business,
more Browns to talk as we get ready for the
prec finale. It's The Kevin Stefanski Show Thursday night at seven.
Nathan Zegura, Gerrod Cherry, head Coach, Kevin Stefanski, and defensive
end Aiden Huntington, who is changing the way that people
are looking at this defensive front. Now, I'll tell you
what that's part of the reason. And no offense to
(42:15):
Juwan Briggs Fran young Man, but that's part of the reason.
I think that they were comfortable with moving along. They
are deep on the defensive front four, Gerad.
Speaker 5 (42:24):
Yes, and Huntington has balled in special teams, played defensive end,
and played defensive tackle and guess what, kid, in all
three spots he's been effective. So I'm so impressed with
how he's been playing.
Speaker 3 (42:35):
Yeah, he's been fabulous, Aiden Huntington. If you're going out
to the stadium to take a look at number sixty
six coming up on Saturday, all right, Gerad, Three things
you're watching for in this preseason finale against the Rams.
Speaker 5 (42:46):
First and foremost, the offensive starters up and down a
football field, clean football, complimentary football. Give us two SE's
and if we can do that, we can walk away
happy with our experience, because I think it's been a
very promising and good training camp and preseason games. And
