Speaker 3 (00:45):
I am merely Bo. He is the great z.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
How you living today, Buddy?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I don't share rooms. I did say no bunking own.
Ready to be out there.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Sad left, Miss k left, sweet little Luca today, the
first time I've left, uh, obviously Luca overnight. And it's
two eight weeks and one day on this planet.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
I think he'll remember you when you get back.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
I think so.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
And you're gone like four days. He's like, it's eleven
percent of his life, a lot of lifetime. Yeah, it's
his life.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, it's gonna be when. Yeah, he's gonna big, big smile,
the warm, warm blanket over and get that baby breath.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yeah it's on. I mean, you guys are headed to
Charlotte tonight and away.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
We go, apparently, and we're headed into like yeah, a
deluge that will not stop. Yeah, and we're not changing
any plans that apparently.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Well I saw the sup by the way, Oh thanks buddy,
I saw it from uh Canalis this morning that he
had talked to Kevin and they're like, yeah, we're gonna
practice in the rain because it's gonna rain copious amounts
three to five inches. They're talking about rain down in
the Charlotte area. That's they don't have a dome.
Speaker 6 (01:59):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
It's a lot of rains. Well that means a lot
of rain.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
It is, but like when you lived in Atlanta, like
they can it can take a lot of rain because
it's the it's so sandy, so it absorbs a lot.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
But it's everywhere it's been hammered all year. Yeah. It's
the thing about this is how where this is Quail Hollow.
This is where the PGA Championship was.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
And yeah, you're right, tons of rain, yeah, in the
in the in the proceedings.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah, I mean I would be you know, me doing this,
I'd be concerned about injuries. I'd be concerned about all
of the things that happened when you play in conditions
that aren't pristine.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Yeah, so it is wild that they have no indoor
facility whatsoever, especially given that they play two games every
year guaranteed in their division in domes.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
It's it's wild for that.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
I have a hole in my resume with the Carolinas.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
I've been there, but I have not spent any considered
a consistent time in North Carolina South Carolina.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
I've spent Grainsborough. I've spent some time in Greensboro, like I.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Have a South point of reference, and it rains a lot,
like Is North Carolina like that?
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Or is it like And then I've spent times up
in the mountains near Asheville where they filmed Last the Mohicans.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
No matter what occurs, I will find I will find
you stay alive. Ah, that's my mentality right now and
so on.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
So great.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
I need, I need, I need old school I need
old school Brown's Therapy, your face, Daniel day Lewis's Last
the Mohicans.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Yeah, under the Waterfall, That's what I need. That's what
I need.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
After that, stay a lot.
Speaker 6 (03:51):
But I don't.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Yeah, I don't know. It's weird to be they don't
have a dome.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
I mean, almost all of the college football teams in
that region have indoors for the rain and then storms
and all of that stuff. They almost all do all
of the I mean there's several high school teams that
do for the same reason, because they can't get lightning out.
They got to get their practices in. So yeah, it's
strange to me that they don't at least have like
a sixty yard field or something so you get some
(04:15):
work in. If their owner's got a little bit of money, right, Yeah,
there was a while he was number one, like he
was the wealthiest in all the number one he was
Numero uno.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
But you know, I don't know if the Walmart thing
changed that a little bit. With bad how about that
very regal, very regal. Yeah, so yeah, there you go.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
So you gotta get some work done down in Charlotte
and you want to it's it's going to be, you know,
more likely.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Than not in the rain, buddy.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Yeah, yeah, which is again wild to get my head
around and see what that looks like.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
I don't, gibbet.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Do you have any intellis whether or not we are
under any type of a surface.
Speaker 7 (04:58):
Well, we have to walk under a train trail, so
to get to the practice.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Field, Well that would prevent the rain.
Speaker 7 (05:04):
But I don't know if I don't know if you
can see the field, I don't know what's under said
train trestle?
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Is it at we don't have like we don't have
a like we had here.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
We had a tarp over us, like a roofed situation.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Well, I think you guys are going to be Our
show will be after practice, right, Is.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
That kind of the plan?
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (05:24):
Yeah, practice will be around Coach will talk around nine
to thirty, practice at ten and we are all up
probably by noon. So yeah, and we'll do the show
from the uh the radio booth at the stadium Tomago.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
And is that all that's all one area there?
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yes, So they're building a complex.
Speaker 7 (05:46):
They're doing they're building one because in the past they
had training camp at Wafford, which right forty five minutes.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Away, okay, for the longest time they do.
Speaker 7 (05:56):
So they now have practice fields, but they don't they're
working on their indoor facility and they're working on just
a facility in general to have right by the stadium.
So you have to get ready at the stadium walk out.
I'll know more when I get there that night, because
I've got to walk through once we get there.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
But is it wild to think that we're like thirty
years into them in Jacksonville, Like they still feel like
expansion teams to me, But they're.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Really thirty years old.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
I mean they've been around forever, and you know, they've
had different ownerships. You know, the original ownership in both
cases is gone. Both instances, the new ownership is flush
with cash, and in both instances, the ownership has big
plans about what they want to do. Tepper orchestrating that plan.
(06:44):
Now Jacksonville's doing the same with what they're trying to
do with there. It's a Shad Cohan. You remember when
Urban was hired down there and he was kind of
acting like he was still on a not just on
the field in terms of like he still thought he
was like in college as a coach, but also like
off the field, like he was like on the campaign
trail trying to get like facilities built to tell Yeah,
like you got to it was a college coach Sports.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
America, Good old Jacksonville.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
They're putting a putting a They were trying to do
like a four seasons there too with it.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Yeah, it was going to be a huge complex. Yeah,
So yeah, and this will be.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
This will be a big test for our team too,
because I do think that this Caroline teams kind of
on the ascent, and then it will be a good
little marker to see where we are.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
It most certainly will be it is.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Yeah, that's a team that's certainly has got some talent
at the wide receiver position, you know, drafting McMillan this year.
They drafted legiate in the first round a year ago.
They still have the venerable veteran Adam Thielen. They've got
they can run it. Bryce Young played very well at
the end of the year. They beat Atlanta at the
end of the year in a shootout that Atlanta needed
to win to win their division, and they did not.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Carolina was able to beat them.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
So yeah, I think it is a good test. Obviously,
things are getting even more interesting around here with the
signing of Snoop Huntley yesterday, which is I think kind
of caught a lot of people by surprise, which I
think would be fair that absolutely, because all four quarterbacks
(08:20):
participated in that. Now, I think what's become very clear
at this point, and I think people just need to
accept where we are in this regardless of what it
looks like or what your opinions are or my opinions
that any of it, that this is a quarterback competition
that really, it feels like, is between Joe Flacco and
(08:43):
Kenny Pickett, and then Dylan Gabriel would be the third
in there, although I don't think a rookie starting week one, period.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
But that's it.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Those are the people that are competing to play meaningful
snaps early in the season.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
That's it. Shoulder Stainers is not amongst that group.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
And it looks like Kenny Pickett and Dylan Gabriel will
be the nursing hamstring injuries, and it's speculation is that
they will not participate in the game against the Carolina Panthers.
So I look at that from the Kenny Pickett' side
of it two ways. One, it's like, as we've said
all along, he's going to be the starter day one
or the leader in the clubhouse, and that they are
(09:18):
being extra judicious with him because we know he wants
to play and they're saying no, no, no, no no.
That maybe it's like we just we need you good
for week one. We got to get you there. The
other way you could look at it is that you
know Joe Flacco has been especially with picking out clearly
the best quarterback out there. Yeah, as you would expect
(09:39):
an eighteen year veteran versus a rookie third and fifth rounder.
And so those are the two ways that you can
look at that. I think I still believe it's the
former that they're just being judicious with Kenny because they
have big plans for him. And then you know, bringing
in Huntley on the serf, to me that that means
(10:01):
that you know, maybe Flacco starts this preseason game, Shador goes,
and then should something happen to Shador, that then you
would have Huntley there to go in an emergency.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
Yeah, almost like they're ruling. This is just us talking,
nothing official, but almost like they're ruling Picket and Gabriel
out out Friday.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yeah, which to.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Me would be it seems odd because I know with
my own two eyes, I watched them throw yesterday and
Gabriel is eleven on eleven. Yeah, so I was saying
to Gibbet, I said, Dylan's in the team. I mean
he's in eleven through seven on seven, but Dylan was
in eleven on eleven.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
Mary Kay's reporting on it was basically that, yeah, it
looks like they won't play in that Huntley will play now.
I don't see a need for Huntley to actually play
in this game after one practice. And yes, he was
here a year ago, but that was a very different offense.
That was the Ken Dorsey Deshaun Watson tailored offense as
opposed to what we're running here. So and he started
(10:58):
in the league, he's a pro bowler. All of those
things all true. But to me, it would be like
if Flacco's gonna if Flacco plays at all, or I
would just say, okay, chaud or just play.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Enjoy yourself, take take the game.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
It's clear that the belief is he is a fifth
round pick, he has the four string quarterback, he needs
a lot of work. Well, here's an opportunity to give
him a bevy of work, a bountiful, a bundanza, an abundance.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
I think what you just said is the only thing
that would make sense for the snowpuntly thing, and that
is guarding against injury for in the preseason game. So
you wouldn't want to put Flacco back in so that way,
if worse comes to worse, it's.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
If Flaco plays at all it could be.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
They could just be like you know, listen, Shoud is
going to start and he'll play three quarters and Hunt
he'll play the fourth, because we don't want to have
Flaco play at all, and there's no reason to him
play a full game if his arms you know, who knows,
But to me, it's it's either like a mop up
or it's in case of a break glass, in case
of emergency type thing.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Oh yeah, and I think the.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
I am a little surprised about if it is in
fact that Dylan is not going to play Friday, that
surprises me a little bit because he has gotten a
ton of reps. He repped yesterday. Yeah, you understand he
as a hamstring, but.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
He did rep yesterday.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
So the only thing I can think of is he
came out of that practice worse for wear, but honestly,
going into practice yesterday, and when we heard Kevin talk
at one thirty yesterday, my assumption was that it would be
Flacco and Shador in all the seven on seven and
all the eleven on eleven stuff. But that's not what happened.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Yep. It wasn't that at all.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
So that led me to believe, Okay, well then they
must be if they're good enough to do this, They're
pretty close to good enough to play, and so I'm surprised.
You wonder if something happened yesterday in practice that maybe
it flared up on Dylan.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
I don't know, I have no idea. It is certainly
I think that everybody was surprised by that news yesterday,
and I would say, judging by the reactions of people
that I know.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
They were all very surprised by it. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
So yeah, I think it just again, it speaks to
a lot of caution, and I think you can read
the caution around Kenny Pickett in particular. Like I said,
one of two ways. The most likely it feels to
me is that they're still planning for him to be
the week one starter. It makes sense given it makes
sense for all the reasons it's made sense from day one,
and so they want to make sure that he is
(13:23):
good and probably for that week against Philadelphia, which will
really be the big, big tune up. And if you know,
if you're Joe Blackow, I think this is a great opportunity.
I'm just curious, like, is Flacco going to play in this?
I'm curious about all of it. All of it, and too,
I don't. Yeah, and I'm as curious as anybody.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Kevin Hall talked tomorrow before practice. That'll be the next
time you hear from him, right, Yeah, I believe thirty
ish or something like that will be the next time
you get some sort of an update on this. Well,
the other factor in this is and that you can
correct me if I'm wrong. But I thought I read
that Canalis said that he's playing his ones a couple of.
Speaker 7 (14:00):
Series, yes, correct, correct, numerous teams that are announcing they're
playing Star Angles.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Did you see the Borough stuff? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Yeah, I mean multiple series and even more in week two.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Yep, they're playing all. I mean they're gonna they're playing them.
They listen.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
They've started the seasons poorly every single year and they
don't want to do that again. When's the last time
they won a season opener. It's been a minute, because
I know they lost to Pittsburgh, they lost to US,
and they lost to New England last year, so it's
at least three and.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Three in a row. Yeah, it's been a minute since
they have. Yeah, it's interesting, Like I was trying to
put myself in the position of like if I were
Mike Brown, and I'm sitting over my turtle soup and
I'm trying which is delicious, by the way, and you're
trying to like decide what's best for my franchise. And
I'm looking at the guy in Burrow who's missed two
(14:52):
of the last parts of one of almost all and
two of the last three years with injury. And you
know your window is now. It's definitely right now. You've
invested as big as possible. You got an eighteen game season.
You got a team like the Rams, who's just who's
Stafford's basically not going to do anything.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
He still doesn't even.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Practice, and they're like, yeah, we're fine, Like and the
attitude being like, yeah, you're not gonna see anybody because
we have an seventeen game season. Understand where they're thinking
is is, look, we've started slow. Let's let's get that thing.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
I would also say, we talk about all the time,
why weren't they in the playoffs last year? Because the
lost Week one to New England that they should never
have lost.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Also, they had a bad defense.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
Well yes, I.
Speaker 6 (15:30):
Don't know that.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
That's fortifive games, four or five games when they gave
up thirty when they scored over thirty.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
I'm not sure that's changing. No, I agree.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
I just to me, like putting them in harm's way
in preseason game would be terrifying to me every snap.
I even thought to the point where, like with what
preseason is now, if if the guys want ones to
get like more of a a joint practice experience, just
put red jerseys on the quarterbacks in preseason like the ones.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Just have the ones be touched.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Like even you could even do it with like a
period of the game where all the ones are gonna play,
Like Jamar Chase, you want him to go out there,
you want Miles to go out there, fine, put him
in a jersey. No cut locking on Miles, no tackling
to the ground on Jamar Chase, just to slap him
and he's down, We'll blow it dead. Let's keep it moving, Like,
are to we to the point where that's not that
far off? Like why wouldn't you do that?
Speaker 6 (16:20):
Can that be more.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Valuable than what we're getting? Intellectually? I don't think it
should be that far off. I think in reality, I
think that would be. I don't think I think we
are far off from that.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
It just feels like we're at a point now in
the league. Usually we end up with a group thinks
scenario where every because when we were kids, this is
how it went. Four preseason games, and this is how
I remember it. I'm certain this is how it went.
This how it was in my mind's I at least
first preseason games starting quarterbacks, starters go a series, maybe two.
Second preseason is even a quarter Yeah, second preseason game
(16:52):
a little bit more. Third preseason game dress rehearsal all
first half, first series of second half.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Fourth preseason gave nothing. Yep, that's how it used to go.
Speaker 6 (17:01):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Now we got three preseason games. We have some teams
who don't play them at all. Rams hasn't hurt them, Nope,
nobody plays none of them. It's all just the philosophy
of the coach, and so it feels like a level
playing field or list. Hey, these are the rules we're
all going to play by. They try to get the
most out of this because more and more teams are
doing what we're doing. They're doing the joint practices because
you get sick of hitting each other. Some people like
(17:23):
living on the road, Fine, yeah, and away you go
to me like all right, Listen, the first two series
your ones are going against our ones, and it's stud.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Fine. I'm totally fine with it.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
I think that you're gonna get I think listen, I
think we're headed towards eighteen games and two preseason games anyway,
and probably two weeks of joint practices two preseason games,
and that's it.
Speaker 7 (17:50):
Yea.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
And I think that's.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Where you're I think that's where things are going to
end up. Yeah, which is I think totally fine. I
think it's it's totally fine.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
It's just I gotta tell you something.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
For the biggest question mark about this football team to
be the quarterback. And Kevin Sefanski said yesterday, I believe
after practice.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Do we have any of that? Give which part I believe?
Speaker 4 (18:16):
He said that he thinks he's gonna name like a
starter sooner rather than later, which is ambiguous, but.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Yeah, nonetheless, like it's coming, it's got to be coming.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
But we have had we haven't had all four quarterbacks
on the practice field together other than yesterday, ironically enough,
because we just added a fifth.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Yeah, since week one of training camp.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Oh yeah, yeah, I mean because Kenny's over well over
week now. Yeah, it was all last week.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Now it's into this week where he's still not all
the way there.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
We certainly have not had all four quarterbacks participate in
eleven on elevens since that first week.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and yesterday when that's the biggest Yeah,
that's the biggest determining factor. Do you get so little
of those periods? It's like two periods, right that you
get with it right, And yesterday it was predominantly Joe,
a little bit of Dylan and a very little bit
of Shdure. That's the way that that broke that that
broke yesterday.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
So yeah, do you want that clip? Yeah, go ahead,
if you got it, keV go ahead.
Speaker 7 (19:21):
And this comes courtesy of so Fanasi on the next
level yesterday afternoon.
Speaker 8 (19:24):
Yeah, it's a good question. We're not there yet. I'm
really pleased with the group. I'm pleased with however, is progressing.
It's gonna come sooner than later, But I don't have
an exact day in mind. I'm I'm pleased with the group.
I'm pleased with the progress. What I've said all along
is I'm gonna let this play out. I'm not gonna
jump to any conclusions. I'm not gonna rush a decision
or anything like that. I'm gonna do what I think
it's best for the football team. When that comes, it'll
be sooner than later.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Do you take that literally or do you take it
almost like a phrase? I mean sooner or later we
have a quarterback? Or do you think it's sooner rather
than later we're gonna name it.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Do you see the difference the difference, I think it
is the former of the latter. I think it means
that we have to have this decision soon. We have
to be ready to play football games. We have to
have somebody ready to play games. I don't think if
there's any way can come, it's got to come to
me after the week in Philly.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
That wouldn't be that soon to me, though, because that's
two weeks.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Yeah, you know, it's two more weeks of this. I
would like sooner than later to me, like going into Philly's.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
This is why it's going to go. Okay, so let
me ask you this, because from my vantage point, it
would be very difficult if it is this week, it'd
be very difficult for it to be anybody other than
Joe Flacco. Okay, I mean, Kenny hasn't practiced in over
a week. Well, I mean not fully.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
How could I just don't I under you and I look.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
We talked about this all off season, like Kenny Pickett,
break Glass, Joe Flacco, where you go.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
I mean, that's kind of been what we think it is.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
But in this instance, it appears like from my mantage point,
it feels like we're getting close to break glass. Like
if Kenny can't play in the game, we're already not
gonna play in the game Friday.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
According to Mary.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Kay, well, then maybe if he gets I guess maybe
if he got like all the one reps in the
joint practice tomorrow. But if he's got a hammy and
it's in the rain, does that even make sense to me?
Speaker 4 (21:18):
It would just mean that that was they have seen
enough through the entirety of the off season program, and
this always was the logical conclusion to them, and so
that's what it is.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Yeah, that'll be That would be an interesting thing to
do with in terms of the full team's been here
since the start of camp and have all seen it, right, Yeah,
that would be an interesting interesting thing to do. Yeah,
So I don't know this tomorrow's practicing to be interesting.
Who's there who's not. Kevin's comments before the practice are
going to be interesting where everybody stands with all of this. Yeah,
(21:49):
the report for Mary Kay yesterday about Dylan probably not
playing in the preseason game was surprising to me because
you thought I watched him do eleven on eleven and
seemed fine, So that that part is surprising. And the
SNeW Puntley thing was a little surprising. And although I
think when you listen to the way z laid it out,
if there's an injury to schedure and and Joe starts
and shor gets a lion's share of the snaps in
(22:11):
that game, if that's the way it goes and he
were to go down, you wouldn't want to put Joe
back in there.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
So in that instance that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
But that's also now following up the Mary Kay report
that neither Dylan nor Kenny would be willing or not
willing would be able to go Friday, or it could
be the team's choice not to allow them to.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
Right. Yeah, it's as we said, it is a.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
It's an it is an interesting situation, to say the
very least. This is a question that I think you
really wanted to have and we still have time for it,
but I think that you really want to have a
definitive answer to and obviously we've talked about all along
that you know, at the end of the season, what
you're really hoping to is have an idea of where
these quarterbacks, where these quarterbacks land? Right like that is
(22:59):
in many ways, that's what you're hoping to find out,
is where where does this land at? That's what we
were interested in. Where do these rookies land. We have
the two first round picks next year? Is there a
scenario in which we can use those not on a
quarterback or as are we you know, destined to have
that be used on a quarterback? That's kind of it
(23:19):
feels like you know where we're at right now the
end full stop.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Yeah it does, and I it does.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
I think it would be such a you have those
two veterans and kind of the way you go on that.
The thing that's tricky with all of this stuff is
a lot of what we've alluded to is just other
teams are playing under different under different rules. You know,
can Al just wants to play is ones quite a bit.
So how much of ours get in there? If any
I don't need to see seventy five. I don't need
(23:49):
to see ninety five or twenty one. Honestly, I don't
need to see three. Yeah, you know I don't. But
then if you're gonna put Joe out there, you got
to give them some guys.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (23:58):
You know.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
So there's a lot going on. It does feel like
for a league that spends that In most of my
time around it, going back to years that I've been
doing this show with you, there is a lot of
group think in this league. It feels like right now
on preseason there isn't that. It's almost like every man
for themselves and everybody kind of has a different philosophy
on it.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
That is one hundred percent the truth about it. There
is not a group think. There is a lot of
different philosophies about it, and you have not you We
thought maybe it would normalize over a few years. I
also think it just shows teams in very different spots.
Right The Rams are very content with what they've produced.
They feel like they're gonna go make a run out here.
(24:42):
The Bengals that they made the playoffs last year, maybe
they aren't doing this, but because they know they've lost
the opener year after year after year.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
They don't want to do that anymore.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
They want to start season one, to know, and they
probably look at it and say, you know what, we've
got the Cleveland Browns. We've got that's a division game.
We've got to go. I don't know if they're week two.
I haven't looked at their schedule. If they're like, I
don't know, but Jacksonville, I think, Okay, it's not Pittsburgh. Okay,
so they're not back to back division like we lost Jacksonville.
So you know, they want to start. I'm sure they
look at that and they said, we need to start
(25:14):
two and oh this year. So if it takes putting
in a little more work to make sure we are
crisp and start too, and oh, that's what we're gonna do.
Speaker 6 (25:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
They listen to their players too.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Burro has been pretty emphatic, like I want to play
in the preseason, I want some more reps. I want
to go.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Yeah. So yeah, I mean I think I think that's.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
Part of it too. And you saw Flacco and his
comments to Mike Silver about, you know, wanting more reps.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
He said that with us, like they want to play.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Yes, It's it's wild when you come out here and
those of you who are out here for training camp,
you see it, how few snaps they get in team. Yes,
even if even if you said, even if you didn't
have a quarterback competition, you're like, all right, out goes
Joe Montana, All reps are his Steve Young, go get
a water.
Speaker 6 (25:56):
Even if you.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Did that, it's not that much. No, it's a dozen throws, yep.
I mean it's so quick.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
It's certainly not enough.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
So it's just to the point where it's like you're
out there for such a limited time that even when
you know who your guy is, it's hard to get
him enough work. So first unofficial depth chart of the
season without quarterbacks listed as follows Flacco, Picket, Gabriel Sanders,
which is kind of how it's been in camp, especially
with the picket injury. Were One thing to remember on
(26:24):
the unofficial depth charts, those are put out there, mandated
by the league to be put out very early and
are done typically by pr right correct, So you won't
get an official one.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Until you get to right before the game. That's right
on Friday, So you are correct, right there, you go.
It's a lot going on the hot lot.
Speaker 2 (26:42):

Morgan Wallas bringing his I'm the Problem tour to Huntington
bank Field. Log Is fifteenth and sixteenth country sensations were Indo,
Lambert Thomas, rhet Ella Langley. Tickets on sale now at
Huntington Bankfield dot com, slash Morgan walland don't miss out
on this must see summer show.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
I wonder if he'll bring.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
The Hoff over to walkouts and Toff couldn't walk out
in Madison, Like is the Hoff around? I know he's here,
Like next week is he in the mix?
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Could you bring them.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Nough fly the Hoff end to have him.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
We're playing a preseason game, buddy, But that's Friday, right,
that's Saturday.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Well, Hoff could do it Friday, though.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
In theory, a man of his means could be here Friday. Yeah,
and Philly Saturday.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
I mean you want Bernie to be to walk out
with him because he does that walk out then yeah,
like I think in the Bay Area he had Steve
Young and Barry Bonds.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Well, in Wisconsin and Madison, he in.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
San Francisco he had Steve Young and right past that,
No he did not, Yes he did. He did not
have Joe Montana yet Steve, Steve Young, and Barry Bonds.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
That's outrageous. Is that real? That's real?
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Seriously, Yes, on.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Luca, Joe Montsett was not interested. He must have met
at his vineyard.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
But like, yeah, the first calls to sixteen, like sixteen
and Steph would be my first calls in the Bay
Area Steph Curry and Joe That's right, That's what mine
would be.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
So basically it's a second rate quarterback in a disgrace,
and he could have had pure Joe four known the
Super Bowl, never lost Steph Curry. Yeah, the Golden Dagger,
all of it. Yep, Yeah, that doesn't make a lot
of sense if you ask me, Well, in Wisconsin in Madison. Yeah,
(29:10):
he walked out with Brett farre Okay, but then he
wore the Hofs jersey for a portion of the program.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
I did see that, Yeah, which is very cool.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Which is where it's being efforts to be tracked down.
I said that should be first. All should sign that
and you should send that to you.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Yeah, So apparently there's they're trying to figure out where
that is.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
Yeh, wardrobe somewhere, it's in a wardrobe, okay, closet.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
All right, that's good to know. Like Jim Tomey would
be good here. M hmm, something like that. I mean,
Bernie's the a plus. Bernie and hoff would be my
first two.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
And then maybe if some magic is in the offing,
Bernie and Lebron James.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
I don't know that that's Morgan Wallin's. Does that add up?
Speaker 5 (29:57):
No, it does.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Harry Bonds what does not?
Speaker 2 (30:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Maybe Bonds bonds a little older, a little older. Yeah,
I mean Bernie is the answer. Bernie's the right answer.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Yeah, Bernie, and then Jim Tomy those would be my
if Hoffs unavailable, those would be Yeah, split those up
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
I could see it being Bernie in one.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Of the Paul's is a Grady size moral logan Paul
Travis Hafner. They around logan Paul.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Are they beloved here?
Speaker 3 (30:25):
It could be a Kelsey no beloved?
Speaker 2 (30:31):
There you go. You could do the there you do
the Kelsey's baby.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
That would work.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Yeah, yeah, there you go. All right, we go around
the league Hard Knocks with them. I did not realize
this Hard Knocks premieeres tonight.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Yeah, Hard Knocks preperes premieres tonight, Bill the Bills.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
It also is, uh, there's a podcast. Did you know
there's a pot Hard Knocks podcast, a companion podcast.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
I did not know that that had been hosted.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
By Peter Schrager that will be hosted by Andrew Siciliano
this year.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
How about it?
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Well, well, wends he is?
Speaker 3 (31:07):
He is?
Speaker 2 (31:07):
He around Siciliano around. God, he's right there, sucking down
a salad. When do you when do you record the
When do you record? Do you record it? Is it
already recorded?
Speaker 3 (31:17):
You see?
Speaker 2 (31:18):
What can you tell us?
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Yeah, he's seeing it. What can you tell us? Dry
Land is not a myth?
Speaker 2 (31:23):
He's got a bowl, he's trying to eat.
Speaker 6 (31:25):
He's trying.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
I've seen it.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
Look at your bib, Look at your bib, look at
you two wins how it feels pretty good though specular. Yeah,
I only could see Gibbe on the screen for somehow.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
I don't mean to interrupt your lunch, although we are,
but I did. I mean, I didn't know you were
doing it, and I so now I'm curious about the logistics.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Hold on, do we have him? Do we have him?
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Young Brock, young Brock?
Speaker 3 (31:51):
You got him?
Speaker 9 (31:51):
Okay, watched it, Uh last night, it's in the camp.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
So you do the The episode was edited final yesterday.
Speaker 9 (32:00):
Enough of it, Yeah, like ninety percent. There are probably some.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Changes being made.
Speaker 9 (32:06):
Hope I'm not giving away too many company secrets. But yeah,
it airs tonight. It's gonna be great. Okay, this year,
if I could just two cents, here is different because
like last year, for example, Caleb Williams and the Bears, right, yeah,
team of the first round pick, team trying to build something,
team with a coach, try to hold on right, all
these aspirations to get back to greatness. This is a
(32:27):
team that's won the division five straight years and it's
like Super.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Bowl or bust.
Speaker 9 (32:30):
So it's totally different. You have the rating MVP coming back,
so it's a much different vibe. But it's a fun
show because much like the Browns, they have an amazing
fan base. I mean, they are in many ways known
for their fan base as much as their football. Yeah,
so that's a big part of the show.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
If you are gonna do this podcast, do you have
to go through a table?
Speaker 7 (32:54):
No?
Speaker 3 (32:54):
You know, I thought about that.
Speaker 9 (32:55):
Are our friend Michael Robinson is kind of an honorary
Bill's Baffia guy from where Penn State quarter niner right
Niner Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
Yeah, super Bowl.
Speaker 9 (33:04):
He has just been pounding the table for them, like
the desk on television kind of table for so many
years that whenever he goes there, he does the table,
he does the whole thing.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
See from that part of.
Speaker 9 (33:14):
The he is not He's from Richmond, Virginia, still lives
in Richmond, Virginia and commutes all over the world.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
All Right, how about don't answer anything that we'll get
in trouble because these are the These are a couple
of questions I have because you mentioned we did Bears
last year and then the year before we did Rogers,
and it was basically his own doc is what it was.
I mean, it was kind of his thing. And we've
seen instances where teams are very happy to participate in
hard knocks and everything with their stars, and then you
(33:42):
have what happened here with Devin col Juice.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
That was my question.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
I mean we had broken Roeback Juice. We're all going on,
this is my that was my first year, and I'm like,
this is not represent what we're doing at all. So
from your okay, hold on, God, look at this made
of us and prayers? Is this the Monaco Grandees? How
(34:11):
is there an F one town? Is there an F
one race on the lake?
Speaker 4 (34:14):
It feels like he's for Monica Will What is the
Josh Allen participation level?
Speaker 9 (34:22):
Because then knowing only one episode is in the camp,
Josh Allen, certainly it is a feature on the show. Absolutely,
I mean he look, he just he just won the MVP,
married a movie star. Yeah, and is truly the man
of the people. You saw those videos where he was
signing autographs after practice a couple of weeks ago and
like girls are crying like it's the Beatles, right, and
(34:44):
and how how amazingly respectful he is, Like he approached
a couple of service members who were in uniform and
they were waiting for autographs and photos, and he took
his cap off right to be polite, had it behind
his back as he signing autographs.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
By the way, anybody would do that, but.
Speaker 9 (34:59):
It's it just speaks to how cool he is, how
humble he is, how man of the people he is,
which is obviously.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Perfect for Western New York. Yeah, it's perfect. Yeah, it's great.
Speaker 9 (35:10):
It'll be a cool show. Yeah, I'm excited. Five episodes.
First one drops tonight HBO, so yours will drop the episode,
the pod will will drop after the show. This first episode,
we have Bill's legend Ryan Fitzpatrick nice, So that's cool
telling some of his great Bills stories. He's also a
(35:30):
hard knocks veteran. He was there with the twenty seventeen Buccaneers,
which was a jamis heavy show. That was one to
remember where Gerald McCoy walked into training camp in a Komono.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
Remember he checked in.
Speaker 9 (35:44):
Yeah, so he tells some stories from that, talks about
the Bills, and kind of admits that of the nine
teams that he played for, like in his heart, he's Buffalo,
even though he never had a winning record. They never
had a winning season when he was there. He is
still kind of mister Buffalo he is, and it fits
well fits Phoenix.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
By the way, he was going through his phone the
other day he said something that he had like twenty
four mics in his phone and twenty six chrises, but
only one to Brickishaw.
Speaker 9 (36:12):
So how about the fact that Brickshaw was named you
know that that remember the Thornbirds, that series.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
You and I are Chamberlain.
Speaker 9 (36:20):
Yeah, he was named. Now, I didn't read that. That
was like something my mother read.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
There's a mini series though. That was a huge deal
that my mind was locked in.
Speaker 9 (36:27):
For Brickishaw was a character in the books.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
Yeah, I think, well, you know the Scottish hammer was
named for the titular character of Outlander.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
I I did not know that. Yeah, Jamie, that's exciting,
Thank you. Exciting episodes.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
This was very exciting. Get in the middle of your
snacks and you and giving your dress to life. Like
everybody way, he's.
Speaker 9 (36:51):
A Georgia Marason on Billy Crystal.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
It's lovely everybody. On the first unofficial depth chart of
the season, the Jaguars have listed was Hunter as a
starting wide receiver and second string quarter. So that mirrors
what Andrew had said the plan would be as he
was drafted here, which is go start and be a weapon.
I'm gonna tell you what, dude, that offense if Trevor
(37:15):
Lawrence who I've I just don't understand why it hasn't
clicked yet. If it don't click with this offense with
Thomas and Hunter and the backs, if not, now when
when brother, when it's time to go. They got weapons
out the wazoo.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
Brian Thomas's dougit dude, legit?
Speaker 2 (37:36):
So's this kid?
Speaker 3 (37:38):
Yeah, he's a dude.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
He's absolutely a dude. Other NFL quarterback news Toeddy Bridgewater
expected to sign a one year deal with the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers. He was coaching high school football at Miami Northwestern,
his alma mater. He was suspended from the school this
summer from impersonal, impermissible benefits, including paying for food, uber rides,
and other services.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
This is the most Ridicut's suppost really say I've ever
heard my life.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
This is his alma mater. Out of his own pocket.
He was making sure kids could get the practice, food,
got to practice, get to school. He's doing that of
his own and the State of Florida has suspended him.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
That is a joke, by the way, it should be
just as you're damn right, and just across the damn
peninsula at IMG, they're paying for everything and they're all
in the same. I mean, that's ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
He is very good.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
We mentioned this earlier. Zach Taylor told reporters that Joe
Burrow and the other big name players will play several series.
On Thursday night against the Eagles, more in Game two
against the Commis. So you're going to see a lot
of those Bengals players in the next couple of weeks.
Be very curious to see what Kevin does. It seems
like all the coaches are kind of just saying, hey,
this is what we're doing. We don't know what Kevin's
doing yet. He was asked about it yesterday, says there
(38:48):
will be a time for that. Maybe it's tomorrow, who knows,
But a lot of these coaches are kind of just
putting it out there what we're doing.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Yeah, I like it. It's the preseason. Wins and losses
don't matter. No, No, it's just development. Brother, that's right.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
The Rams have signed running back Kian Williams a three year,
thirty three million dollar contract extension with twenty three of
it guaranteed. He's the first Rams running back to sign
a long term extension since Todd Gurley in twenty eighteen.
I would bet much less money than Todd Gurley got
in twenty.
Speaker 3 (39:14):
Eighteen, probably relative to the time. What do you think?
Speaker 2 (39:18):
What do you think Todd got an eighteen? Did you
get a monster deal?
Speaker 3 (39:21):
I'm sure he did, But what was a monster deal
for a running back?
Speaker 5 (39:23):
And play?
Speaker 2 (39:23):
I feel like they're making less than they did. Then
maybe I'm wrong, but I know you're probably right. I
bet he got maybe fifteen. That's what I'm thinking is
that it maybe even more. Todd got a big deal.
You got a brock?
Speaker 5 (39:35):
I do.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
It was a four year, sixty million, forty five guaranteed, so.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Way more fifteen, way more?
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Yeah, forty double the guaranteed.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
He was also the best running back to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
No doubt, but double the guaranteed seven years ago. Sure,
but tells you where running backs but kind of the
running back thing is gone. But hold on one second,
you'd have to do like Saquon.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Something Saquon didn't take on get twenty.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
I think I don't know what he got guaranteed though,
What's what was his guarantee on it?
Speaker 4 (40:06):
Saquon Barkley just got two years forty one point two
million with thirty six guaranteed, So so less than no
more than Gurley two years, he said.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
Gurley got forty some guaranteed for four years, four years
forty five million guarantee. Yeah, but forty five guaranteed. And
the most that Sekon can get, as you said, thirty is.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
Getting thirty six and guaranteed and two years though yeah
half the time.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Yeah, no, no, for sure, but just in terms of
overall guaranteed money, you will see every penny of this.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Eighteen more.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
On a year to year basis. You're right, But just
in terms of overall guaranteed it does speak a little
bit to what's happened to the running back situation over
the last last few years.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
And unless you're really special, it's hard. No's right.
Speaker 4 (40:50):
The special guy at least is still making more than
the special guy in eighteen made on a four year basis.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
No, that's good.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
Five ft Kyne was a fifth round draft pick, if
I have that right off the top of my head,
he would know the answer that for sure.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Fifth. I think so they drafted Blake Korham last year
in the third round. I want to say thank you.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
And I thought that he was gonna usurp and I
will tell you that in the preseason last year, mister
Siliano said he will not or maybe it was a
week early in the season because I.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Had I had a lot of Blake Quorum stocks on.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
My fantasy teams. He was like, yeah, that will not
be happening. They are quite big on on Kyra and Williams.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Here you go.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
And so he was spot on as he was very
well connected at the with the with the RAMS organization.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
We were having a conversation earlier about the panthers lack
of indoor facility. Josh Loyal listener with this. The Panthers
were to build a new indoor practicly in rock Hill,
South Carolina. Quarterway through the new owner pulled the plug
due to disagreement with local officials. The half built structure
is still standing down there. So they had started it
and then not one other thing. I want to mention
(41:52):
before we get out of here. I was down in Columbus,
Ohio State camp on Thursday and Friday and guy came
up to me, introduced himself. Listens every single day down there,
Jude Putnam. He goes, can you give me a shout out?
I said, yeah, I can listens every single day to
clean things.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Buddy, Hey Jude, a song about that great song? Great song?
How about holds up quite quite well?
Speaker 7 (42:13):
A gentleman. Yesterday after practice he was looking. You guys
had already well, he was filming. You had left. Yeah,
and he said, hey, the guy is still here. I said, unfortunately,
you know Nation's tape and he's got obligations. But the
guy is from Canada. Yeah, Rove pctice, how about it?
That's beautiful talk to little Niagara Golf. There you go,
(42:34):
good dude. Shout out to him and his wife. I
believe Matt was his name, but like he's like, I
listened all the time.
Speaker 3 (42:40):
It's beautiful, beautiful shout outs. I got doing because I
feel I did not see this scarlet.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
There you got the cad Klubnik early scouting reports. Go ahead,
he's a Syracuse there, he's a Clemson kid. What do
you want?
Speaker 4 (42:56):
Guy came and he was like he wanted to. He
came down and wanted to is gonna bring his ZW shirt.
DJ SoCal eighty six. I didn't see this that I'll
be a Browns training camp. Can I get your autograph?
He has a ZWO T shirt, so we'll get that side.
You said it to me shirt, you can send it here.
I'll set it back to you on my dime. I'm
happy to do it, or we'll have to connect a game.
Speaker 7 (43:16):
He did showed up again. It was after practice and
I said, look, I I just I don't know if
I can.
Speaker 2 (43:21):
Scatter him over here.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
Yeah, we've scattered at that point. Maybe he'll be down.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
Maybe, David, if you're listening and I'm gonna follow you back,
shoot me a message. Maybe you'll be at the when
we played the Bengals. He says here that he lives
in Louisville. Louisville, he is Kentucky and the Bengal Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Right it is yeah, all right, Ze goos one on
one with Cedric Tillman. Gonna have a big year from him.
You're gonna have that to look forward to, which is nice.

to once again be joined by Cedric Till'm a great
friend of the program.
Speaker 3 (44:16):
All right, said game week.
Speaker 4 (44:18):
Finally, I'm sure it's probably seemed like a long time
since you guys first kind of got out here at
the Cross Country Mortgage campus, started going through training camp.
Speaker 3 (44:25):
Now we get to go to Charlotte tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (44:27):
You get a joint practice against somebody else wearing a
different uniform, doesn't know your plays, doesn't know your concepts,
doesn't know your keys, and then you get a preseason game.
How exciting is is that?
Speaker 3 (44:38):
Prospect?
Speaker 5 (44:39):
That's pretty exciting?
Speaker 10 (44:40):
You know, these weeks have gone by fast, and you know,
I think that the season is here already, is crazy,
you know, but the whole team, including myself, excited to
go out there and compete against.
Speaker 4 (44:49):
Now, yesterday you were able to relax a little bit
kind of what's the mindset? Practice today, travel tomorrow, joint
practice off, game off? Do you actually this week is
pretty good off Sunday as well? If I'm not mistaken,
this week's pretty good. So when you have a situation
or set up like that, is it like you know
you have a built in day of recovery kind of
after every day?
Speaker 3 (45:09):
Does that help you get more after it?
Speaker 10 (45:11):
You know, recovery time is always good. But you know,
for me, I don't really look too deep into the schedule.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
Obviously.
Speaker 10 (45:17):
I know we have a game this weekend, but I'm
just taking it one day at a time. I show
up where I'm supposed to be and compete.
Speaker 4 (45:23):
One rep at a time, one rip out of time,
one practice at a time. Coaches would be very hit there.
We'll make sure they see this. We'll be like, Seed
gets it. Seed's got it right there. You've been battling
a little bit with Denzel Ward out there. That's been
fun to see. What do you learn you know from him?
Thinking about back to when you were a rookie to
where you are now going against a guy like Denzel
Ward and practice every day.
Speaker 10 (45:43):
Denzel is just a really good player, you know, he's
one of the best at what he does, so you know,
just studying him, being able to go against him, and
you know the other corners on the team, but you know,
obviously hiding Denzel, expecting a big year for him, and
he's only getting better.
Speaker 4 (45:58):
You're a big man, Yeah, you are a bigger man
than Denzel Ward.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
Yeah, he's a strong guy.
Speaker 4 (46:03):
Is it kind of surprising how just how physical he
is because you guys have had some real physical battles.
Speaker 5 (46:08):
Yeah, obviously.
Speaker 10 (46:09):
I think Denzel knows too that when we go against
each other, this may look a little different than maybe
some of the other receivers, but now, you know, overall,
a really good corner, like I said, one of the best,
and it's always fun going against him.
Speaker 4 (46:21):
Do you like the drill they've added to the one
on ones now where it's kind of like a bubble
screen where you actually get to go like block the
dB or Yeah.
Speaker 10 (46:27):
I absolutely do love it because you know, when they
hold a little bit, I can kind of take it
out on them during that time, so it's cool.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
That's like your revenge. Yeah, absolutely, all right.
Speaker 4 (46:35):
I liked that going into Carolina, going in the preseason opener,
kind of where you're at with this team. It's a
little different probably for you than in years past. You know,
your Rockie season. Obviously you want to go out there
and flash, and you certainly did that in the preseason,
and now you want to go out there and have
an opportunity to be like get good work, but also
with an eye towards the season opener. How has that
kind of like changed your look to it? And what
(46:56):
do you hope to do when we get on the
field on Friday down in Carolina?
Speaker 5 (47:00):
On the mentalities stays the same.
Speaker 10 (47:02):
You don't want to go out there and compete, you know,
kind of show everybody what I can do, and you know,
show myself what I can do. You know, So taking
it one day at a time. Uh, Gonna try to
make the players when I go up there and uh
and looking forward to it.
Speaker 4 (47:14):
What's one thing that you really worked on this offseason
that you're seeing kind of come to fruition here so
far in the started training camp that has you excited?
Speaker 7 (47:22):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (47:22):
Just overall a better football player.
Speaker 10 (47:25):
That means mentally and physically, Uh, you know, being able
to trying to run all day, Uh, you know, being
that consistent player and just trying to clean up some
of the maybe giveaways in my game. So dB, stay honest, all.
Speaker 3 (47:38):
Right, So let's dive into that.
Speaker 4 (47:39):
So you're saying that you felt in the past you
maybe had some tells that would allow the dB to
know perhaps what was coming.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
And how did you discover that and how do you
clean that up?
Speaker 10 (47:48):
Just obviously talking to the coaches obviously I have a trainer, uh,
and then obviously talking to guys like Greg and Denzel uh.
And then just watching myself on film. You know, you
want to make every route look the same. So that's
just kind of what I try to do.
Speaker 4 (48:02):
Joe Flaco, Bernie Cosar both have talked about you, and
they love the way you catch the ball with your
hands and use your body. You have that big frame
and you go up there. I said, when you're catching
it out there, there are a couple of traffic. It
reminds me of Larry Fitzgerald, who I think is maybe
the best hands catcher of all time. How do you
kind of get that technique to the point where you're
able to take it from maybe a jugs machiner out there,
(48:23):
but take it out to the field and be such
a good hands catcher, which is, I'm told, makes you
very quarterback friendly.
Speaker 5 (48:29):
Yeah. Since I was little, I've been taught, you know,
to catch with your hands.
Speaker 7 (48:33):
You know.
Speaker 10 (48:33):
Obviously there's times that you know, you may have to
catch it differently, but I always like to catch the
ball with my hands down in front of me because
it gives me the best chance to catch the ball
in my opinion. So I just try to keep it
real fundamental and you know, just simple catch and tuck.
Speaker 3 (48:47):
What's your favorite play of training camp so far?
Speaker 10 (48:50):
My favorite player of training camp so far? I mean,
I don't know, there's been a lot. It's probably not
even my player's probably can you know, see some of
the younger guys kind of go out there and perform, so,
you know, I just like to see how they work
and stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (49:03):
Is it fun that you get to talk about the
younger guys that's not you anymore?
Speaker 10 (49:07):
No, it's still you know, it's still me. Sorry, Yeah,
you know, it's still me. You know, I'm still you know,
getting the ropes and stuff like that too. But I'm twenty.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
Five, Okay, I'm not quite double Yeah, twenty.
Speaker 10 (49:19):
Five, So I ain't hate unc agean or anything like
that yet. Like I said, it's cool. That's cool.
Speaker 4 (49:25):
Overall, how do you feel about this offense and kind
of where it's getting getting ready to crescendo? Obviously in
the opener against the Bengals, you.
Speaker 10 (49:32):
Know, I feel confident. I feel like we got some
good pieces on offense. I feel like as the days
go on, we're becoming more consistent. And I think that's
the biggest thing with us. If we can take well,
we're going to take those pre snap penalties away. We're
going to take a lot of those penalties. I heard
us last year. We learned from it. We're gonna come
back this year and you know we're gonna change that.
So when we're able to play fast, play full speed
(49:56):
and no flags or anything like that, I think we
can be a good offense.
Speaker 4 (50:00):
Last one and a very serious one. Have you worked
on a touchdown celebration for this season?
Speaker 5 (50:05):
Yeah, I got the touchdown celebrations ready, man.
Speaker 10 (50:07):
So you know, I just gotta go score. Now, we
just gotta go score. So you know, obviously you got
to get in the end zone first. But when I
get in there, it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 4 (50:16):
Said, this is fun. Appreciate the time and the best
of luck. On Friday, and obviously the whole way leading
up to this season.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (50:23):

joint practice tomorrow, my friend. It'll happen down in Carolina.
It will likely happen if we looked if we looked
at like a an hour by hour.
Speaker 3 (51:43):
I haven't looked at hour by it, but I've looked
at enough to see bad.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
That it's gonna rain a lot. Brother, Yes, kind of
where we're at. Yeah, all right, I'm gonna pull it
up here. Let's get it a nice Give me a
Charlotte for tomorrow. At what time are we doing? Remember
the the ACU weather fork, the ACU weather app was
undefeated this sprint.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
No, it's been heads at it's real strong.
Speaker 7 (52:07):
You want to compare to weather dot com Now I
crushed weather.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
It's already over. Oh my god, it's dude right now
in Charlotte. It's just straight up thunderstorms for hours. That's right,
it's been going on. It goes on until it's thunderstorm
still seven and then it's just straight up rain a
till eleven PM. And then it fires back up at
three am. And then tomorrow at eleven and noon is thunderstorms.
(52:33):
I wouldn't be surprised if you guys moved up time.
Speaker 3 (52:36):
Oh yeah, probably in the morning.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
Yeah, but I'm saying, like to make sure it looks like.
Speaker 7 (52:42):
You're moving to afternoon where there's only a thirty percent
chance or forty percent.
Speaker 2 (52:47):
I mean I'm looking at I'm looking afternoon downtown Charlotte
noon sixty four, forty nine, forty nine, fifty four, forty
nine percent thunderstorm at three o'clock.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
And then it's, you know, kind of straight through.
Speaker 7 (53:00):
It's gonna beautiful, mane.
Speaker 2 (53:02):
I mean it's brutal, it is not. Actually, honestly, you're
your this is your rain chances. Don't do hour by hour,
but rain chances obviously one hundred percent today down there
then eighty eight, eighty eight, eighty eight, eighty eight. It's
not until Saturday that they get a reprieve forty, so
even the game on Friday could be in the showers developing.
Speaker 3 (53:21):
Later in the day on Friday, fantastic.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Bring your rain gear, yeah, bring a slicker.
Speaker 7 (53:28):
You're on your galoshes.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
You gonna need a galosh thank god. What was your
rain gear choice? How did you stay? What was what
were your had? I had the full team rain gear.
Speaker 3 (53:40):
Yeah, which is a Nike Storm fit.
Speaker 4 (53:43):
But like there was a couple of games where it
it was too much for it.
Speaker 2 (53:47):
It overtook even the gortex.
Speaker 3 (53:48):
Cortex, yeah, too much.
Speaker 4 (53:50):
That one we had the back to back I think
it was Houston and the Raiders and Eagles.
Speaker 3 (53:54):
Yeah, whatever that season was, Yeah, that one.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
That one where you just got swamped. Yeah, there's a
point where it takes on soap where it can only
take so much and then it's broken, like you don't
get it back.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
The court takes it.
Speaker 7 (54:04):
Like walking out the built out this morning, I'm like, oh,
let me grab that jacket because I know that that
can hold it off as long as humanly possible.
Speaker 3 (54:15):
Do you think I brought nothing for the ring?
Speaker 7 (54:17):
Well, that's great. I look forward to you complaining about.
Speaker 3 (54:20):
You better believe it, among other things.
Speaker 7 (54:23):
Well, it could be a great many that are complete
about tomorrow show could be really one timer.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
I mean it's in play. It's very much in play.
Speaker 2 (54:33):
All right, give us we're gonna do well. First of all,
it's news of the day, just to refresh for the
folks just joining us here in the second hour. Uh
Snoop Huntley is back. He is a fifth quarterback added
to the room. This is in reaction. We think we've
not heard from Kevin. Uh, but we believe this is
a reaction to the fact that Kenny Pickett Dylan Gabriel
both battling hamstrings. Uh. And then she do Sanders head
(54:54):
arm soreness over the weekend, although that seems to be
completely high and so he's good to go and z
kind of out. In terms of Friday, if it goes
this way, it makes sense to me. We saw the
Mary Kay report from yesterday that neither Dylan nor Kenny
were probably going to play in the game on Friday.
So if that is the case, if Joe starts it
and then Shador goes for a long time, the signing
(55:15):
of Huntley would make sense. If there were some injury
to Shador and then he could go in and play,
that would make some sense to me.
Speaker 4 (55:23):
It makes sense to me right for that reason alone,
or if they do not want to play Joe Flacco
at all. Yeah, but that really would be the only
reason that this would make a great deal of sense
to me.
Speaker 3 (55:35):
I mean, we just saw all four of them practice yesterday. Yeah,
doctor J, Doctor J. I'm getting ready.
Speaker 2 (55:47):
When he was talking about catching on that jugs machine,
I just had the video. I mean, like thought, because
you guys did it.
Speaker 6 (55:54):
We did it.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
We went, we did the balls around. Yeah, we had
to catch.
Speaker 2 (55:56):
Yeah, we went and had a catch. I mean there
was a chance that potentially he was going to bring
you out of retirement and all your greatness would be
unfurled again.
Speaker 3 (56:03):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (56:03):
But instead it was a quick dress rehearsal. Well, it
was a throw.
Speaker 7 (56:08):
Catch A throw could be debatable, it was the throw.
Very nice you all right?
Speaker 2 (56:18):
Five things that you're watching for in the joint practices
in Carolina, Duck di z.
Speaker 4 (56:25):
Where do we begin? I mean, the number one thing
is the quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (56:30):
Right.
Speaker 4 (56:30):
We don't even know what the quarterbacks are going to
be though, so that is that's a tough one to say.
I don't know who's even gonna get reps in these
joint practices. Now, I think in an ideal world they
all get reps in the joint practice and then you
are more judicious in the game. I'd be fine with that.
But so that's number one. Is is it just the quarterbacks?
Who's starting, who's playing, who's getting first team reps? Are
(56:54):
we at a point where we're just going to say,
all right, it's Flacco and pick it only for the
first team? Does Gabriel get any first team reps? Do
Picket and Gable participate at all?
Speaker 6 (57:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (57:04):
So that's number one. Well, let's stay there just for
a second. I think the one to really watch on
that is Picket. Yes, Like I do think at some point,
I know he's been here a long time and I
know they like him, and obviously he'd be the preferred
choice to start the season if it goes that way.
But I do think at some point he needs to
have several days consistently of playing and yeah, repping, and
(57:26):
that hasn't happened in over a week. I mean, he
threw seven on seven yesterday and he threw like warm up,
but he didn't do any eleven on eleven and hasn't
since what a week from a week ago Saturday. Yeah,
it's been that long atince he's Yeah, I think I
think Bernie talked to him a week ago Saturday after
that practice, didn't mention anything with a hammy. Then it
was out all last week. Yeah, so it's been a
(57:48):
long time. Like he's got to get repping'.
Speaker 4 (57:49):
The last play last rep he had was a rollout
touchdown pass to one of the tight ends. I think
it was Brendan Beats, the Brendan Beeks a Blake Whiteheart
and he threw two touchdowns in that period, but to
those tight ends. So that's I mean, that's just that's
number one by a mile. Yes, after that, you know Tillman, Thrash,
(58:13):
Deontay Johnson, DeAndre Carter. How does that group perform? This
is obviously I think for Deontay Johnson maybe a bigger
return than most preseason.
Speaker 3 (58:20):
Games might be.
Speaker 4 (58:22):
And then beyond that, Luke Florida and Gage Larvadan, who
have definitely separated themselves and have looked very, very good.
Can that continue? Are these guys that can compete to
be the sixth receiver on this team? Are these guys
that can you know, perhaps you know, push somebody else
off of this roster?
Speaker 3 (58:40):
And then the third one would be.
Speaker 2 (58:42):
Real quick on that? Are you still strong on five?
It feels like or does it feel like it could
be six?
Speaker 4 (58:50):
It could be it could be I mean, like I
have kind of my greens and yellows. You know, the
sixth receiver spot is a yellow. But that would require
you know, to come from an offensive lineman, to come
from a quarterback, come from you know, they keep four quarterbacks.
You're not keeping six receivers. Yeah, and now how many
running backs are we keeping? Because we don't even know
(59:10):
when Quinchon comes in? You have no idea if he
signs he's going to be on the fifty three.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
Yeah, So I don't At this point, it's hard for
me to see a scenario where you don't have four
quarterbacks on the fifty three with all the injuries.
Speaker 4 (59:28):
I know how tough that is, but like I think
that that'll be these seem I mean, they all they
both through yesterday and we're from the opener.
Speaker 2 (59:36):
You're either trading somebody or you're cutting somebody of those four. Yeah,
I mean that's just the way that it works. Yeah,
So are they really willing to do that?
Speaker 3 (59:48):
You know? I mean it seems to me like it's.
Speaker 2 (59:49):
Like Dylan and I'm sorry that Pickett and Flacco are
far and away the two they trust the most, and
Pickett's been hurt for a week.
Speaker 3 (59:57):
Yes, yeah, they still have a Yeah again, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Like you're not gonna that's why it's number one. Yeah,
I mean, I know.
Speaker 4 (01:00:03):
To me, it feels like you're gonna have four on
that number three For me, is gonna be the cornerbacks
beyond Denzel and Greg and I would imagine we won't
see either one of them who who can make some
plays there, you know, chigaz A and Usium undrafted free
agent Cam Mitchell was a fifth round pick, Tony Brown,
undrafted free agent, Dom Jones, undrafted free agent rookie Lamary
(01:00:25):
and James, undrafted free agent rookie Keenan Isaac, undrafted free
agent Miles Harden, seventh round pick Nick neaed him a
veteran league but an undrafted free agent. I mean, we're
our cornerback room has a first two first round picks,
Greg Newsom and Denzel Ward, and then after that it
has one, two, three, four, five, six undrafted free agents,
(01:00:47):
seven undrafted free agents, a fifth rounder, and a seventh rounder.
Speaker 2 (01:00:53):
Yeah, they're gonna get I think this receiver room for
Carolina has got some really sneaky guys deep in the
depth chart. I think you're gonna like Jimmy Horn junior. Yeah,
he was at Colorado last year. Ye now he fell
to the sixth time. I liked watching him on tape.
He was the one who was in the slot. He
was in the slot. Yeah, he wore five.
Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
He made a lot of big plays he did.
Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
Yeah, he's he's a nice player in the sixth round.
Me too. I know't maybe just the top end speed
wasn't there, but he always got open at Colorado. Now
they had Travis so that helps. Insurer was excellent at Colorado,
so all those things help. But like he's someone to watch.
And then they got if you think they got uh,
obviously McMillan's there guy.
Speaker 4 (01:01:30):
You love they got McMillan, they got legit. Yeah, and
they got those are two back to back first round picks.
Theel Hunter Renfros trying to make a comeback. David Moore's
got some good size and has been in the league
for nine years. Mentioned Jimmy Horn. They've got a good
tight end that they like, Jatavian Sanders, who was their
fourth round pick out of Texas, who's very much a receiver.
(01:01:51):
They can run it with Hubbard. They drafted etn out
of Carol out of Georgia. I'm sorry, Yeah, there's a
lot to like about this team, and they're there line.
You know, you've got a first round left tackle and Ikwanu.
You've got Damian Lewis. You've got Corbett former Brown who's
become a very good player. Robert Hunt was a Pro
bowler last year. Their right guard, Taylor Moten is a
(01:02:14):
nine year veteran, a former second round pick. I mean,
they've got They've got some dudes. They've got some dudes.
I'm excited to watch the battle of our defensive line
against their offensive line.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
For sure.
Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
I think that'll be a very good battle for us.
And then the other one is what's this running game
looking like? You know it was supposed to be in
so many not in so many words. Built in large
part around the reason that the Browns like Quinn Shawn
Judkins more than Travion is because they felt like he
could be Well, that guy was a featured back, a hammer,
(01:02:47):
a guy that you know can handle the riggers of
twenty twenty five carries and be, you know, the centerpiece
of your offense.
Speaker 3 (01:02:54):
Now, Travion was the one. I didn't realize that was
what they were looking for.
Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
I thought, just watching Travion, I you know, you go
back to my mock drafts at Browns dot Com. I
always had a state trade backs. I just that' I
like that explosive.
Speaker 3 (01:03:04):
Home run.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
And probably the best pass protecting running back to come
in there a time like he's just ready to go.
Speaker 3 (01:03:12):
Yeah they know all about it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
Yeah yeah, but that's it, Like you're gonna have to
I think something that you're going to kind of figure
out this week and you're absolutely next week. Is what
exactly is our plan about going about our business offensively?
How are we going to have success on the offensive
side of the ball. What does that look like when
we're at our best, Because so much of what I
thought we would be was predicated on quin Shaw in
(01:03:35):
the ground game and then play action off of that
with the deep shots, taking care of the ball, don't
turn it over, something that Kenny can be pretty good with,
play clean, and so much of that is gone by
the wayside with what happened with quin Shawn in terms
of and we still don't have any sort of answer
on that. Yeah, so then those other guys hold up,
(01:03:57):
you know, as go to guys that one game.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
We don't know. That is the question.
Speaker 4 (01:04:03):
It's there's a lot here, man, there is a lot,
a lot a lot here.
Speaker 6 (01:04:09):
It is.
Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
We've got a lot of questions.
Speaker 4 (01:04:11):
And then i'd say the probably the fifth thing I
want to see if I didn't get to five, maybe
I did, Maybe I'll give you a bonus, Carson Sweestinger.
Speaker 2 (01:04:19):
You didn't get to five, But then linebackers, I'll just
give you a bonus here for charity.
Speaker 6 (01:04:23):
What do you need.
Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
I mean, how many you want?
Speaker 4 (01:04:24):
You want to to watch these linebackers? How's the kicking game?
What is DeAndre? Do we actually have a returner?
Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
I think this is from a preseason football perspective. If
Dylan can get healthy and we can see him and
we get to see a lot of twelve and a
lot of five yes over the next couple of weeks,
that's fun. And I think it's going to be the
rare instance where like the fourth quarter of a preseason
(01:04:55):
game is much watch, slash much listen. I really think
think so because I think all you go to a
practice and of those of you who are out here
over the last couple of weeks of training camp practice,
there's not enough time to get this work in no time,
there's none. So these games for those guys, I mean,
all of the reps that Shadour is not getting in practice,
(01:05:17):
if he gets them on Friday night in Carolina and
he gets them Saturday night in Philly, Okay, then you're
gonna get a feel.
Speaker 4 (01:05:26):
I'm just trying to keep manage expectations for myself.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
They're managed, dude, based on I mean, if you go
to camp and you listen to what we're telling you
in camp like this is to me, now a two
person quarterback competition with the two rookies, I mean then
Dylan and then Shadour beyond that, but a ways back. Yep,
that's the way that it's viewed in the organization by
Kevin Spanskin his coaching staff. So we are making it
(01:05:54):
abundantly clear that that's the way that it is.
Speaker 4 (01:05:57):
Yes, that is the way it is. I'm just curious
how much we get to see him on Friday. Yeah,
I mean, I think what you want to see for both.
That's why I said, like it's Dylan and him.
Speaker 3 (01:06:08):
Of course you want to see I sink.
Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
I said this yesterday on the show, like give the
first half to Dylan, the second half to Shadur next
week in Philly inver opposite, Yes, let's go.
Speaker 4 (01:06:17):
But that I think that those plans that you and I,
because that's exactly what we said. I think that's the
supposition in that was that they were on a level
playing field in the eyes of or at the same
level the two rookies. The two rookies were at the
same level competing.
Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
Yes they're not. They're not. No, Dylan is here and
Chador is here.
Speaker 4 (01:06:39):
So I don't know that you would even see that
type of equitable distribution.
Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
Then let Dylan start them both and have Shoudur just
play the second half.
Speaker 4 (01:06:46):
Which would be fine, fine, fine, Yeah, those are the
guys I want to see. But I also think you
need to see Kenny Pickett. The one guy I think
we all agree that you don't necessarily need to see
in the preseason because he you know exactly who he
is is Joe Flacco.
Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
Yeah, and the crazy thing is is, because of all
these injuries this week, Flacco may have to play in
the preseason game a series or so. Well.
Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
Now, I think that that, to me says more about
why they signed Huntly than anything. Yeah, I think people
are looking at the Huntley signing as being related to shador.
I think the Huntley signing is being is much more
related to they don't want to have to put Joe
Flacco out there for too much in the event that
he ends up being the starting quarterback of the Cleveland
Browns in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (01:07:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:07:26):
Yeah, I think you laid that up perfectly at the
start of the show, which is we tried. You know,
Huntley's here for Flacco starts on Friday, Shador goes in
for a long stretch, gets nicked.
Speaker 4 (01:07:38):
Or they've decided or they've decided that Flacco's not playing
that game and you need to have somebody else that's
able to play quarterback in that game.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
Yeah, in that instance, do they start huntly against Carolina's ones?
Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
I don't know. I mean, I know he hasn't been luck.
Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
I didn't think he would be here. I'm here twenty
four hours ago. I didn't think we'd be adding a quarterback,
and we did so, so who knows. Maybe it get
some answer to this from from Kevin on before practice tomorrow.
That'll be his next plan. Availability is next tomorrow before
practice down.
Speaker 7 (01:08:06):
Here, so coach will talk before practice and then he
will sit down with one Nathan's the girl for the
debut the Kevin Stefanski Show on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (01:08:13):
Now is it that time?
Speaker 7 (01:08:14):
It's time?
Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
Oh maybe, Away we go. So, what's your guys' favorite
thing about Charlotte? We got about two minutes left before
you guys got to go catch a plane. What's your
favorite thing to do in Charlotte? Give me one red,
like if you were head.
Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
But I don't know if I came in here like
this one.
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
If you had a if you were selling me on
a reason to go to Charlotte, what would you sell
me on?
Speaker 4 (01:08:42):
A lot of wrestling history in that city, wrestling in NASCAR.
Speaker 7 (01:08:46):
Yeah, NASCAR Hall of Fame, Socilia.
Speaker 4 (01:08:49):
Also, I mean Rex Chapman was drafted there. I'm sure
there's a statue somewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
There ought to be. I could believe there wasn't one
in Lexington. There should be, Like, what is going on?
I was King Rex King, Yes, right, I told you
when we went, when I took NBC to the game,
like he was there. King Rex was there and I
was like in awe, awe of Rex. And I was
like explaining, payde knew who he was. But then I'm like,
I'm like, dude, like.
Speaker 3 (01:09:13):
I can't believe you did go talk to him. He
would have been so gracious.
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
He was on the other side. It was from a distance.
Speaker 3 (01:09:18):
I would have walked right across that court.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Probably should have.
Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
Yeah, he was excuse me, sir.
Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
He was so cool.
Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
His book was unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (01:09:27):
I'm full of great stories, inspirational. He's been high highs
low lows, bounced back and reinvented himself in a multitude
of ways, A definite recommend, definite recommend.
Speaker 2 (01:09:39):
Well, boys say when we see stay dry or as
dry as you can be, and I will see you
via via technology tomorrow. Round one.
Speaker 7 (01:09:51):
And you said crossing the streams was.
Speaker 3 (01:09:53):
Bad, right, come on? You know what I found?
Speaker 2 (01:09:57):
I found I forgot when it got long because that
was the year that Boots he did the top gun
little video that he did, the little short and that
one got a lot of attention. But NBC did a
pretty damn good Peter Wenkman too that we did when
he was little, like maybe like eight or nine. It
was a pretty good little Peter. Yeah, he had that.
(01:10:18):
He had that rockin all right, boys. Safe flights to
you guys. Hey Browns fans under the Dog Dash Sweepstakes

Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
All right, let's head of the Podium presented by the
vid Seats Perch, your official fan experience package today for
the Ultimate game Day. Here is defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
Speaker 11 (01:11:25):
It's more of a general question about your philosophy. You
work for Phil and Nick here, you go to Baltimore,
you work for Marvin, you know Greg. How do all
those philosophies sort of come together to form you know,
this the philosophy you've kind of come to city. I
don't say as your own, but it's the one that's
attributed so much to you.
Speaker 6 (01:11:46):
Yeah, you do.
Speaker 12 (01:11:47):
You take a little bit from coaches that you've met
along the way, not just in schemes, but just in
ways they handle situations, ways they organize, ways they organized
their staff on the way they deal with players. You know,
you're watching, like, hey, that was really good the way
Marvin did this, or hey the way you know Bill
did that.
Speaker 6 (01:12:06):
If I'm ever in that situation, I'll do the same thing.
Speaker 12 (01:12:09):
I think scheme wise, though, it probably comes more just
from success and failure in.
Speaker 6 (01:12:16):
The in the league, you know.
Speaker 12 (01:12:18):
And I was I was telling somebody before a lot
of what we built with the defensive front came when
I was at Tennessee and we had the challenge of
facing Gary Kubiak's Texans, which were wide zone and stretch,
and Peyton Manning which was wide zone and those heavy
play actions in quick passes, and then Jacksonville.
Speaker 6 (01:12:38):
Which was a heavy, heavy power run game.
Speaker 12 (01:12:42):
And you know, there's no greater teacher in this league
than failure, right, you know, And we spent a lot
of time on learning, like what doesn't work, and then
you sort of refine and you're like, okay, that works.
Plus you know, things sort of rolled back, you know,
like mobile quarterback. Well, you've already had Michael Vick, so
that time whatever Lamar Jackson comes, it's like, well I
(01:13:03):
knew how to get my buck beat beat by Michael Vick,
let's try to change some of those some of those things.
So it's it's I I'd say probably fifty to fifty
in schemes and taking things from different coaches, whether it's
you know, organization or or dealing with the players, or
(01:13:26):
dealing with the other coaches, and then also just experiencing
the league, playing, playing those other things.
Speaker 6 (01:13:33):
So go ahead, I'm sorry what they're doing.
Speaker 12 (01:13:37):
Yeah, both of those guys are are really doing well.
I mean, let's let's not put him in the Hall
of Fame yet. They're both rookies. But I'll start with Mace.
Mace has really made a tremendous turnaround in his body composition.
Speaker 6 (01:13:53):
I don't know if you guys.
Speaker 12 (01:13:54):
Have noticed it, but it's it's it's been significant from
the time he got here after the dre to the
shape he's in now. He's his metrics are like much
much improved. He's running a lot faster, and there was
an adjustment. He played a red scheme where he was
hunkering at the line of scrimmage, so he didn't get
a chance to make a lot of sacks or those
(01:14:15):
tackles for losses.
Speaker 6 (01:14:16):
Even though he's really productive in what he did.
Speaker 12 (01:14:18):
So not only was he sort of changing his body composition,
but he was like learning a whole new way to
play defense, which is attack. And there's been you know,
some stepbacks along the way, but the thing with Mace
is he's taken two steps forward for every one step
back he's taken, so he's gaining ground and you're starting
(01:14:39):
to see him make more plays. I think it was
Friday he had one of the best rushes he's had
in practice. He just it was a b gap rush
and it was just beating the guard with speed. Nothing
fancy about it, but that was something that we really
had to see in a lot of you know, back
in OTAs and in May so been happy him. There's
(01:15:00):
still going to be some adjustment anybody that's going to
a new scheme like that, there's going to be some
one step forward two steps or two steps forward one
step back. But as long as it's not one step
forward one step back, he's making progress. And really excited
to see him against some other competition and then see
him in some games and seeing that translate. You know,
(01:15:22):
we could we could be a long time talking about
Carson because he you know, with Jordan Nick's retirement, you know,
it really accelerated his timeline of getting him. But everything
we've asked from him, not only has he been able
to do, but he's he's done a better job than,
you know, than maybe what we expected. He's got great size,
(01:15:44):
he's got great quickness, he's got great speed, he's got
great instincts, and he's made just as many mistakes as
any other.
Speaker 6 (01:15:52):
Rookie, but he has not made any repeat mistakes.
Speaker 12 (01:15:57):
And I think you guys have seen some of the
physicality that he brought to our practices.
Speaker 6 (01:16:01):
His communication is as much improved.
Speaker 12 (01:16:05):
A college guy coming in is a different communication than
in college because a lot of colleges, they look over
for the signal. Nobody really says anything here. He's, you know,
a rookie. He's he's got to command the huddle, he's
got to make calls and and do a lot more
more things like that, and he's he's he's excelled and
all those things. Really really excited for him, and I'm
(01:16:27):
really happy to have both of those guys.
Speaker 13 (01:16:29):
You guys lost you guys lost Martin Numberson last week.
Obviously that Achilles said, what were your hopes for him
this year? What's your kind of playing to replace. Not
tough one, but he was Martin.
Speaker 12 (01:16:37):
Yeah, Martin means a lot to us, and I thought
he was really primed for a comeback year. You know,
he was, he was in great shade, he was he
was hungry, his attitude was great.
Speaker 6 (01:16:49):
And unfortunately he had the injury.
Speaker 12 (01:16:52):
We have a veteran like Greg Newsom that's played inside
and outside.
Speaker 6 (01:16:57):
But we'll put a little bit more on Greg, but.
Speaker 12 (01:16:59):
Greg's Greig's you know, been playing a lot of football
for us. So it's really just going to open up
a lot more for Nickel competition, for the third outside
corner competition, those kind of things. So you know it, Uh,
there's there's good competition there and we need some guys
(01:17:20):
to be able to step in.
Speaker 7 (01:17:22):
Greg asked you to rip offf fact to kind of
lose in mynmbers as you kind of just gress that.
Speaker 5 (01:17:28):
So we're just taking the lead on that.
Speaker 12 (01:17:30):
I'll say inside, well, inside, we have we have two
veteran players for US. One a veteran meaning young vets,
cam and and Miles, you know, and they're they're really
just working through just like everybody else, just being consistent,
being physical and playing with great effort.
Speaker 6 (01:17:54):
And you know.
Speaker 12 (01:17:57):
Somebody, somebody's gonna end up taking that job, and it's
going to be based on the body of work from
training camp and pre season and all those other things.
But we play a lot of dbs, so we'll need
all those guys as we go.
Speaker 13 (01:18:11):
As you talked about Carson, I guess I'm curious if
it ever had a rookie be.
Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
Like a pretty done defense of your career and then all.
Speaker 9 (01:18:20):
Of that with Jordan's gone, you know.
Speaker 12 (01:18:22):
You're who's maybe is it all on Carson is sort
of assume that leadership role or you're seeing that sort
of spread out.
Speaker 2 (01:18:28):
On the number of guys.
Speaker 12 (01:18:29):
The leadership stuff will will come from playing good and
you know, preparing well and earning the respect.
Speaker 6 (01:18:37):
Of his teammates.
Speaker 12 (01:18:38):
You know, that's that's something that you don't just like
it's not a switch you hit or it's just not
a card you get.
Speaker 6 (01:18:46):
Hey, now now you're a leader. It comes.
Speaker 12 (01:18:48):
I mean, people respect preparation, they respect hard work, they
respect communication, they respect good play on the field. If
he does those things, leadership, leadership take care of itself.
What was the other part of it a rookie, Oh yeah,
I've had a d I've multiple rookies. Last one I
had was probably Presston Brown in Buffalo who was a
(01:19:12):
third or fourth round pick and made all the calls
and was outstanding. I mean, it's you know it. It's
something those guys.
Speaker 6 (01:19:19):
Can do.
Speaker 11 (01:19:22):
As center.
Speaker 8 (01:19:26):
Also to get yourself to have your best player on
the team.
Speaker 13 (01:19:32):
Talking like that, What does that have I call operation?
Speaker 12 (01:19:36):
Yeah, congratuations on Bill None, that's fantastic. Got I got
to meet him back when I was sort of in
the scouting world, legend, legend guy.
Speaker 6 (01:19:45):
But what congratulations on that? Miles?
Speaker 12 (01:19:50):
We we sort of go as a defense as Miles goes,
you know, raid of a pack, determined by the lead dog.
And we played good on defense when Miles is playing good.
So I think setting that standard means a lot defensive
player to year he's been that, I think all our
guys have been challenged to take another step. If you're
(01:20:12):
on the practice squad trying to earn a spot on
the roster, if you were on the roster trying to
earn a playtime or starting spot, you're a starter trying
to elevate.
Speaker 6 (01:20:21):
To a Pro Bowl status.
Speaker 12 (01:20:24):
You know, I really think the next step for Miles
is not defensive player to the year, he's sort of been there,
done that.
Speaker 6 (01:20:30):
Next step for him is MVP candidate.
Speaker 12 (01:20:33):
And you know, if we're playing good on defense and
he's he's at the at the heart of that.
Speaker 6 (01:20:40):
I think he's in that conversation. He he is.
Speaker 12 (01:20:44):
A obviously a marked man in every game, sees doubles people.
Speaker 6 (01:20:49):
You know, we move him around.
Speaker 12 (01:20:51):
He still wears number ninety five, right, and he still
looks like he does so it's easy for opponents to
find him. But my definition of a great player is
when the opponent says, we're taking this guy out, this
guy is not going to beat us, and he can
still have that production and that effectiveness. I think it
(01:21:12):
sets a big, big standard and a big statement. And
I would say we we also have to be better
around bombs, right, and we have to be able to
win one on ones in pass rush when he does
get doubled, because that'll help if we can win those
one on ones. And the offense says, well, we can't
afford to put so much tension on Miles because this
(01:21:35):
guy is wearing us out or these other guys are
wearing us out.
Speaker 6 (01:21:39):
Then it opens things up.
Speaker 12 (01:21:40):
So we need that sort of one plus one equals
three to some of your some is greater than the
individual parts.
Speaker 6 (01:21:47):
And I think that's a challenge for us.
Speaker 3 (01:21:49):
Also, Jimmy, haven't.
Speaker 9 (01:21:50):
Us talk about Kevin's defans gives last week, and he
made a point to emphasize Kevin's age only four three, the.
Speaker 3 (01:21:55):
Idea of being you know, he's still a young coach.
Speaker 2 (01:21:57):
I wanted the room to develop. You've been around a
lot of great coaches in your time. Where do you
see Kevin on them?
Speaker 6 (01:22:04):
On his professional development curve right now? Oh, I don't
worry about that. He's the He's he he's the head coach.
I have so much respect for Kevin. He's he's so
even Ye.
Speaker 12 (01:22:13):
I think everybody has a little different style, right Like
I'm I'm a little bit more emotional. I'm a little
bit more like where your where your emotions on your
sleeve and things like that. And just the thing I
respect about Kevin is just how even keeled he is.
And if you want, if you want teams to play well,
you need a lot of different ways to touch it.
(01:22:35):
And I think Kevin just just that that steady you know,
like if if you ever, if you ever on a sailboat,
you know, you don't look just in the immediate front
of the sailboat. You keep your eye on the horizon
and you wanna stand that true course, I think Kevin
just exemplifies.
Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
That as always that have as same as you're trying
to camp generally in that and you're in your third
years of a lot of guys in their third sever
it's understandable.
Speaker 6 (01:23:04):
I guess with the quarterback deals, can you evaluate in
your own mind does this look like.
Speaker 3 (01:23:10):
The real deal?
Speaker 6 (01:23:11):
Or you have to be shown?
Speaker 5 (01:23:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (01:23:13):
Yeah, Well, I mean I think you do see good signs, right,
and you're looking for communication, and you're looking for individual effort,
and you're looking for things like that. But when it's
all said and done, it's got to be on the field,
you know, And and what happens in training camp that
can be good signs and that can sort of lead
(01:23:36):
you in a direction, but until you until you do
it on the field, and you do it consistently on
the field, that's that's all it is.
Speaker 6 (01:23:45):
It is just a good a good sign.
Speaker 12 (01:23:47):
So we're we're focused on trying to improve every day
and those things to set us up Like again, like y,
you can't you can't start at the end of the journey.
You can't say, hey, we want to be a great
deal defense, because then you lose the day to day.
You got to say, hey, look, let's go out and and.
Speaker 6 (01:24:06):
Make make progress today.
Speaker 12 (01:24:08):
Let's go attack this day and learn from my mistakes.
Speaker 6 (01:24:12):
Let's emphasize our talent. Let's compete, and if.
Speaker 12 (01:24:16):
You do those things, you do those things consistently, then you'll,
you know, you'll you'll get to where you wanna go.
Speaker 6 (01:24:23):
But this time of the year, we're really just trying.
Speaker 12 (01:24:25):
To keep our eyes on on what's there that day
and and not worry about a whole lot other than that.
Speaker 13 (01:24:32):
Just go more Denzel and he's take even another level which.
Speaker 9 (01:24:37):
I don't even know the all, but uh and there.
Speaker 2 (01:24:39):
He's also a NFL as.
Speaker 6 (01:24:41):
A player to hear, so.
Speaker 12 (01:24:44):
Yeah, he's a He's I've always admired Denzel as a
player when when I've been on other teams and just
the way he goes about doing his things is is
just impressive to see to see up close.
Speaker 6 (01:24:58):
They do.
Speaker 12 (01:24:58):
Some guys that have coached him in the past that
you know, they said, like, you're gonna love Denzel, and
I certainly do. I've had some good corners in the past.
He's probably the best corner I've had in thirty some years.
In the thirty some years in the NFL. The thing
I like about Denzel is just how consistent he is
(01:25:18):
with his preparation.
Speaker 6 (01:25:21):
He never phones in a performance.
Speaker 12 (01:25:23):
He's making a big effort this year to be more
physical and put hands on because he's he's such a
great shadow guy, and he's working a little bit more now,
being a little more physical at the line of scrimmage,
giving us a little bit more run support, and just
sort of rounding out some other parts of the game.
Speaker 6 (01:25:40):
When it's all.
Speaker 12 (01:25:40):
Said and done, the biggest thing is he just needs
to finish those PBUs with I nts. You know, he
was so so productive in getting pbu's last year, but
left a lot of meat on the bone. And you know,
the third down stop that's a that's a PBu becomes
a game changing play when it's an I n T.
And that's probably the biggest thing for him to really
(01:26:03):
make that next step because there were really opportunities there.
He knows that, and you know, the finishing the play
thing when he does that will be uh, you know,
we'll be in a really good spot on defense.
Speaker 13 (01:26:15):
We see him matched up with like Carol and the
et cetera. So, I mean he can match up with
any size, any speed. Like how unique is that in
the corner for him to basically just be able to
match up against anybody.
Speaker 6 (01:26:26):
Well, you know, he does it with his own style.
Speaker 12 (01:26:28):
I think the biggest thing with him is he doesn't
really change his style for which whether it's Jerry, Judy,
or Tilley or or Harold or you know, maybe even
Joku he gets out there sometimes with with.
Speaker 6 (01:26:41):
Him, he just works on his own craft.
Speaker 12 (01:26:44):
He's he We've used him to match different receivers, play
right and left, We've switched him in camp a little
bit here and there, you know. So I don't I
don't know that it's that it's unusual in your corner.
Over the course of seventeen plus games, they're gonna be
a lot of different kind of matchups, you know. I
mean we open with Jamar Chase and Okay Yah Higgins, Yeah,
(01:27:11):
my my Tennessee basketball guy, mister basketball in Tennessee as
a high school player. Com I mean, like, Jamar is
not a small receiver, but he's got s quickness of
a smaller guy and t Higg is just so big
and it's just a different style. But you know, so
he's gonna have challenge right out the gate, so I well,
(01:27:32):
we'll get exposure to all that stuff in camp.
Speaker 5 (01:27:34):
Do you think you talk about.
Speaker 3 (01:27:35):
During OTZ and many camps improving.
Speaker 2 (01:27:37):
Their down percentage in the takeaways aspect of.
Speaker 4 (01:27:40):
Even where we are in camp right now, how do
you see your guys kind of.
Speaker 3 (01:27:44):
Embody asking tality to improve.
Speaker 12 (01:27:46):
Those areas and the kind of what's been done?
Speaker 9 (01:27:48):
Where are they fee?
Speaker 12 (01:27:50):
Yeah, probably the biggest thing with with takeaways has been
us attacking the ball. I mean, I think I think
it's pretty obviously anybody's watched. You see nine guys attacking
the ball and number one. That helps us. We've gotten
some loose balls that way. But also it helps our
offensive guys. If we're attacking the ball and being so
productive there forces them to have better ball security, So
(01:28:12):
that works hand in hand training camp, a lot of
times it's hard to read for interceptions because so many
interceptions come from a quarterback either thrown before he wanted
to or getting hit when he's thrown, or making a mistake.
And in training camp, when you're not hitting the quarterback
and those guys know they're not going to hit. They
generally don't make those kind of mistakes, so you know
(01:28:35):
that that'll just be more. But we we have sort
of emphasized a little bit more of a playmaker attitude,
taking some calculative risks here and there, and hopefully that'll
show up on the field along with the ball disruption
attempts that we've tried.
Speaker 2 (01:28:53):
You know, of the defensive line and where you guys
are not playing off. So that is when you noticed
with Isaiah and alex.
Speaker 6 (01:29:02):
Or how they fum a long home to day race.
Speaker 13 (01:29:04):
Kind of a competition on ourselves.
Speaker 12 (01:29:06):
Yeah, we have great competition at at defensive defensive end
in particular. We got a lot of guys that have
started a lot of games in the NFL. You mentioned Zay,
you mentioned Alex put put Cam Thomas out there, who's
had an outstanding camp, but Julian out there, who's had
an outstanding camp. kJ new to us. He may have
played the other day, he's been physical for us. All
(01:29:28):
those guys are gonna play in the NFL, and it's
gonna make us better the competition that they bring because
they gotta be on their game every day or somebody
else is gonna be so we wanna see physicality out
of those guys. Those guys you mentioned are both physical
players for us. Zay had to play in practice the
other day where he he literally took three blockers and
(01:29:49):
knocked them back into the backfield.
Speaker 6 (01:29:50):
It was a tackle for a loss on the play.
Speaker 12 (01:29:53):
When we're doing that, when we're being disruptive up front,
we're gonna get those lost yards plays.
Speaker 6 (01:29:59):
We're gonna be around a quarterback.
Speaker 12 (01:30:00):
But you know, if you're just somebody coming out to
watch practice, that competition is something to watch because, like
you roll through and we'll have our our end of
practice extra reps, we'll have guys that are running thirteam.
I really don't care what group you're running. It's all
about getting reps. But you're seeing veteran players in those
(01:30:22):
that are out there trying to improve and and trying
to prove themselves. I think it's outstanding for us, and
I'm i'm I'm excited to watch all those guys playing,
rooting for all of them, and like I said, I
think all those guys will end up on teams and
probably all getting a significant playtime this year.
Speaker 2 (01:30:40):
All Right, there you go, Jim Schwartz from the podium
presented by Vivid Seeds, puts your official fan experience package
today for the Ultimate Game Day, Z and Gibbe will
be down in Charlotte tomorrow on a practice that should
be fascinating to see, so you'll have that look forward to,
which is nice.
Speaker 3 (01:30:56):
The next level is coming up next weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
