Speaker 1 (00:07):
Welcome to the From the Podium podcast, where we feature
all of our daily press conferences rolled into one podcast
to help you get ready for the twenty twenty five
regular season. I'm Brock Danny he and on today's episode,
you'll hear from quarterbacks Shador Sanders and Dylan Gabriel, offensive
coordinator Tommy Reese, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, special teams coordinator

(00:31):
Bubba Van Trone, and head coach Kevin Stefanski. First up
rookie quarterbacks Shador Sanders talks about blocking out distractions and
focusing on football.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
So, like Armstormers before, like that where you've had to
take a day off.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, in college? Yeah, in college was it was often
it was just adjusting to starting to stop. And honestly,
that's all. That's all it truly is. Is you know,
sometimes you're going hot, then you'll wait for a second
and then you'll get cold and get back hot, then
get cold, and you know, I'm just I wouldn't My
arm and body wasn't used to that, you know, So

(01:07):
it's just an adjustment like within the body, you know,
within my arm.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
Yeah, that's pretty mature, you not, I guess maybe mature
isn't the right work. But for you to self report
when I know it's hard for you guys to take
yourselves out of even one rep when you're in the middle.

Speaker 5 (01:23):
Of the competition.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
So did you have to debate that at all or.

Speaker 6 (01:26):
Did you just no?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Of course you of course, there's definitely something you know
in your mind. And I always think about my I
always hear my dad voice in my mind, you know,
all the time because it's always bona blood. You know,
you know his motto and you know, you know his
slang with everything. So of course I was definitely hearing
his voice in the back of my head. But at
the end of the day, I want to be productive.

(01:47):
I want to give you guys the best work, and
I want to be at my best at all times.

Speaker 6 (01:51):
You know, M right? For what?

Speaker 3 (01:58):
I hope I didn't break anything, buddy.

Speaker 7 (02:04):
Come on, now, be told how.

Speaker 8 (02:08):
You'll be used to Friday in.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
The Carolina game.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
No, I haven't been told that yet.

Speaker 8 (02:12):
So what are you get from that game?

Speaker 9 (02:15):
Reps?

Speaker 3 (02:16):
I think I think that's I think that's pretty much it.
It's reps.

Speaker 10 (02:19):
How about you, what do you think the reps you're
gonna get in this first joint practice.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
Are going to get ready for that?

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, I think every rep I get in general is valuable.

Speaker 9 (02:29):
You know.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Uh, we definitely taking things up a nots. I would
say with everything. So every rep, you know, anytime I
step on the field, I take it, you know, like
it could be my last cause you don't know it's
players that we was and uh just practicing with last
week that's not here no more so like I said it,
it it's more about a bond. It's more about uh

(02:50):
going all out. It's more about you know, how you'll
be remembered.

Speaker 9 (02:54):
You know what do you.

Speaker 11 (02:55):
Feel like your growth has been the most? Is it
on the field, is it the meeting room? Is there
a specific ration where you say man.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
I I would say I would say mentally. I would
definitely say mentally. Uh, even regardless if people, if media,
you know, have good ways or bad ways that come
about me. You know I'm more mature and not making
those same mistakes I made, you know in college or
whatever I did. So you know, I treat everybody we
respecting with careen. Whenever everybody gets over you know, their

(03:25):
own hate towards me for their own weird reason, then
you know everything will be that good. So that's it.
I don't That's where I grew the most is I'll say, mentally,
shou should I.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Know you still haven't taken any reps with the one offense,
but you took them against the one defense. Did you
find that particularly valuable going against guys like Benzyl and
whatever else is.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
Out there with the ones?

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah, I would say pretty much. I view it as
the defense does a great job of mixing players in
so backers, you got rookies out there, sometimes DB's, you
got different guys out there. So it's not Mentally I
go out there, I'm like, oh, you know these are
the ones. I'm gonna get nervous like it don't got
anything to do with that. And truthfully, I don't care

(04:11):
what Olana go out there with. It could be ones, twos, threes,
whatever the situation is. And I know Friday, when the
game is, if I'm with twos of them with threes,
it don't matter to me. I'm just ready to get
down and get to you know, doing what I could do.

Speaker 8 (04:25):
What's the past couple of months been like?

Speaker 12 (04:27):
Because your dad came out with the announcement of cancer
last week in the street and it's just what's happen
like for you and the family.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
In the last couple of months. Yeah, well, I said,
it's definitely, uh, stay focused mentally. Dad, he's one person
that uh he'll handle his We we we handle what
we gotta do. So it was something that you know,
we really ain't need to have no formal conversation about
because it was like, y'all need to focus on what
y'all can focus on. Y'all can't you know, sit here
and feel sorry for me and then that's affecting y'all

(04:56):
doing that. So we all knew because our family be
talking in group chats and everything. So why but at
the end of the day, y'all able to see and
y'all and y'all able to understand, you know, everything on
the field, off the field, you know what I go through.
So then you know, you gotta be some type of
human at some point in a way. How I'm doing
everything and how I'm haling everything that's thrown at me.

(05:19):
You know, you got no choice but to applaud of that.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Who you are heading into block three of this training
camp and you're still right in the thick of this
four way quarterback competition. What does that say about how
hard you were and what you've been doing behind the
scenes that we don't even see to be still in
this mix?

Speaker 9 (05:39):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
I don't think not getting out the mix is even
a thought in my mind, you know, in any room.
So I I know I have the upmost standards for myself,
and uh, I know all I could do is go
out there and do what I gotta do every day
and make as minimum mistakes. And I know it's long
ways to go with everything. And I know, oh, you know,

(06:00):
I lack experience on this realm and on this level.
But one thing I can hang my hat on is
in all pressous situations, you know who I am.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
And I saw that your your dad mentioned on the
Michael Irvan podcast that, uh, he wanted to come.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Here and see you, but you yeah, I told him, Yeah,
I told him, don't come.

Speaker 7 (06:19):
And wh why did you say that?

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Because I mean, like I I look, I look at
it at my own point of view, like I don't
want him coming to see me right now because I wanna,
I wanna get to where I wanna go then for
him to see me. I don't want him to come
and see me, you know, get a couple reps and

(06:42):
you know, he's cheering like a good dad, Like, nah, y,
you can't be proud of me right now. I gotta
get to where I'm going, and I know it's a
lot I gotta do to get there. So it's kind
of like I just want everything that I'm doing is
just like focus on this time.

Speaker 8 (06:54):
And I don't wanna know.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Distractions because we know out of media, we know how
everybody will take it and take away from the team. Uh,
just from him being my own dad showing up, so
you know it, it's a gift and a curse at
the same time.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
Going off of that, he.

Speaker 11 (07:09):
Said that you he was excited for you to get
the preseason reps and knows that they're gonna.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
Have to play your preseason.

Speaker 9 (07:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
I think that's bare minimum for sure. Yeah, Like I
think anybody plays preseason almost for that opportunity to Yeah, nah,
I'm I'm excited. I'll say overall, you know, being able
to to to be healthy, to come to practice today
and being able to go against the actual defense and

(07:40):
you know, get live reps and everything. So I'm just thankful.
I prepare each day, you know as such, and uh
and I stay focused throughout everything, so whenever it is
my time to get out there, I won't Uh, I'll
be able to be myself.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
What Jimmy and then Jeff and we gotta cut it?

Speaker 13 (07:57):
But yours do you think can show up in a
game setting that that maybe we don't.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
See as much of practice?

Speaker 3 (08:03):
So have you watched me in college?

Speaker 11 (08:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Well you know a little bit of that going on. Uh,
I'm still the same guy, you know, I don't nothing
happened to me. I'm the same guy. If anything, I'm
a little bit stronger mentally, physically, uh, emotionally and h
the way how I handle different situations like shit, know you.

Speaker 14 (08:22):
Mentioned earlier about people hating on you. You're blocking that out
and everybody it seems like nobody's neutral, right.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yeah, I don't know how many people'll hit you, but anyway,
so how do you how do you.

Speaker 8 (08:36):
Block all that stop out?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
How do I block out the noise? I would say
it always been like I always face adversity, you know,
since growing up in each level it had always been something.
So you just know how when when you figure out
how people come at you and I and in life is
a cycle, it keeps repeating over and over and over.
Then you understand, you know what game this is or

(09:01):
what they're doing, you know, So I can never feel
less than nobody could ever make me mentally get out
of position in the situation I am. I'm thankful for
who I am. I'm thankful for who my dad is.
I'm thankful for my family, and you know, no one
can make me feel bad about the blessing that.

Speaker 6 (09:18):
I do have. To trust people.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Nah, I feel like I feel like trust trust. Trust
is a deep thing, but it it's different levels of trust.

Speaker 8 (09:29):
You know.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Overall, it's a lot of people that that you'll trust
driving your car, but it's a lot of people that
you wouldn't trust taking your kids somewhere, you know, and
drop your wife off at home. So it's different levels
of trust overall. So they don't make me hard because
I start out neutral, you know, I start out with neutral.
I it's a couple familiar faces I see out here,

(09:51):
but others not so much. But I don't have a
problem with anybody, So I live life free. But then
you know, whenever it's negative, then there it's like, all right,
you didn't cause this now, But nah, I'm I stay
new to it.

Speaker 9 (10:03):
Everything.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
I don't really have treat everybody with oh most respect.
Now you ever heard anything negative about my character?

Speaker 8 (10:11):
In a minute?

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Next, rookie quarterback Dylan Gabriel talks about his expectations for
joint practices in Carolina.

Speaker 15 (10:19):
How excited about you job probably actually get into a
game against facing another team.

Speaker 16 (10:25):
Yeah, I don't want to give you the cliche answer
to him. Extremely excited, but as you can imagine, it's
my first time. So it'll be a lot of fun
being able to you know, get around a new team
and compete against a new team.

Speaker 6 (10:38):
Uh. Different from college in that way.

Speaker 16 (10:40):
And excited for you know, just another opportunity.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
What are you looking for to most him, just even
just a joint practice when you can get down there
in that way.

Speaker 16 (10:50):
Yeah, I think it'll just be interesting. It's it's a
cool concept too, Like I said, being a rookie kind
of new to how preseason works. Uh, it'll be interesting
to see how it does a joint practice even leading
into the preseason game. But you know, it's it's fun
and I know colleges have talked about it before and
wanted to do that, and something that you know you
look forward to.

Speaker 6 (11:10):
Its competitor as well, so I it'll be interesting.

Speaker 5 (11:13):
Through two weeks.

Speaker 9 (11:13):
How do you feel your dealing?

Speaker 16 (11:15):
Yeah, I don't. I don't look at it through two weeks.
How I I think I'm doing. I think just day
to day. I think there's a lot of growth and
that's from when I first got here up until now.

Speaker 6 (11:25):
And I think it's it's forever evolving, you know.

Speaker 16 (11:28):
And I I I wanna continue to be better and
continue to grow. And there's ups and downs and ebbs
and flows within the competition. Feel to play, That's that's
just what happens. And uh, for me, I just wanna
continue to be better than I was yesterday. And do
you do I've I've been I've been prepared for the
moment yea, you know so, Uh I'm excited for that

(11:49):
and and know that, uh, these moments add up. But
each moment is its own situation and one that you
wanna take advantage of.

Speaker 9 (11:59):
How do you think.

Speaker 8 (11:59):
You to lose downs to be able to.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
Down or financial.

Speaker 8 (12:04):
Training camp or season?

Speaker 16 (12:05):
Well, it's it's life, you know, I I think, Uh,
for for many it's it's what you put yourself out
there as a competitor. Of course, you want certain results,
but sometimes it doesn't always go your way. And there's
a lot of things that uh, collectively we can help
one another out and and be better in certain aspects.
And it starts with me as the quarterback who touches

(12:26):
upall every single play. But that's just it's a it's
the ultimate team sport, you know, and and that's why
you love, uh competing in it and I love playing
the game.

Speaker 15 (12:34):
How do you think playing so many years in college
has prepared you to.

Speaker 16 (12:40):
Know if that we're gonna be some down time, but
not then you don't get discovered.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
Yeah, No, it's just.

Speaker 16 (12:48):
I don't don't wanna make it about down time, but
I I think it's it's more so just with all
my experience, Uh you've been through a lot of situations
and have seen a lot. Doesn't mean there won't be
new situations that are unique to uh that time and
and certain situation, but uh you just appreciate 'em all
and you know that through through all that growth is

(13:09):
is gonna become at all time high because uh there's
times to learn, there's times to grow, and uh, the
more you put yourself out there in that way, uh,
the faster you can get there.

Speaker 15 (13:20):
It's been reported nationally that the Browns are put on
a lot on your plate in particular because they feel
and what challenge.

Speaker 8 (13:28):
You see you on what you can get on?

Speaker 6 (13:29):
Yep?

Speaker 9 (13:29):
Do you feel that challenge? And what do you think
of what I'm doing that? Yeah?

Speaker 16 (13:35):
I think uh A lot of programs I've been a
part of have done that. And I think you you
try to put a lot of stress offensively to see
how much your team can handle. And uh, you know,
for me, it's something that I'm accustomed to and and
you wanna you wanna stress early and know when to
pull back. And I think we've done a great balance
of that as a team. And uh, I think you

(13:57):
challenge not only the quarterback position but everyone around you
to see how much how versatile you can be, but
also conceptually, how how you can make it simplified for
everyone to understand.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
What's the biggest difference for you? Uh working with the
second and third seas and the occasional.

Speaker 16 (14:12):
Toimes for your work group of first and the Yeah
for me, I I I go back to pros or
pros and reps are reps.

Speaker 6 (14:18):
You know.

Speaker 16 (14:18):
I think when you get in there, uh, y you
do go through your progressions, and you go through you know,
your pre snap ways of operating. But for the most part,
I think, you know, there's a lot of great players
on the field at all times, and uh, you gotta compete.

Speaker 6 (14:35):
At a high level no matter what. So if I if.

Speaker 16 (14:37):
I were to change how my approach was per ones,
two threes, whatever it may be, then I'm not serving
the moment for who I wanna be.

Speaker 6 (14:46):
Every single rep.

Speaker 17 (14:47):
Really, what is it that you're looking to accomplish Friday
for the press game and the find supermage? Is there
any personal vote that you wanna accomplish or just overall
team goes on a little bit of vote.

Speaker 16 (14:58):
Yeah, just executing it at a high level. And I
think for all of us, we all wanna do that.
But collectively being able to get in the game flow
and and see how you know, not just in certain
team racks where you work in certain situations, but in
true move the ball, how you can build momentum, build flow. Uh,
not just for you know, me as a quarterback, but
for the whole unit. And I think that'll be good

(15:18):
for us, you know, going into Wednesday, but also Friday
as well.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
Well, yeah, what strengths of yours.

Speaker 13 (15:24):
Do you think can be showcased in a in a
gay live game setting that maybe.

Speaker 5 (15:28):
Practice is harder to show.

Speaker 16 (15:30):
Yeah, I think just me being myself, you know, and
being able to go out there and operate. And I
think at the quarterback position, you make good decisions like that, Uh,
the rest will come into play and you know, you
wanna showcase how you can operate within the system, and
the rest will take care of itself. So that's what
I wanna, uh be able to showcase. But more importantly,
just us coming together as a team. I think it's

(15:51):
a great opportunity for us.

Speaker 11 (15:52):
All you well, you you mentioned that college doesn't really
have something like this, Yeah, preseason. Is there something where
you can kind of, you know, compare it to something
that you've gone through in college that to at least
kind of put a you know, kind of give.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
It a you know.

Speaker 16 (16:08):
I I actually we were talking about it this morning.
I actually go back to high school.

Speaker 9 (16:12):
You know.

Speaker 16 (16:13):
I remember in high school we'd have a camp Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Thursday,
we're scrimmaging three other teams all on field. So it
gives more of that feel. That's why I kind of
use the college aspect. I'm not too familiar with it
since my high school times, so it'll be interesting to
to see it on you know, display on Wednesday. But
I look forward to it, and you know, I think

(16:35):
that's where I kind of use high school college NFL.

Speaker 6 (16:39):
How different it may be.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
How you don't feel like you have been performing in this.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Camp so far.

Speaker 16 (16:46):
Yeah, I go back to just every single day is
it's individual of its own, and I think you wanna
collectively build days, but you know within that you wanna
be proud of certain reps, but you want to be
proud of how there's opportunity to grow and and correcting,
you know, maybe mistake once to next time and continue
to answer the bell that way. So for me, it's

(17:07):
just it's doing that and stacking it up. But the
more reps, the more tries you get at it, the
more confidence you build, and you know, the ability to
showcase what you can do slowly by just operating within
the offense.

Speaker 8 (17:21):
More on your plate.

Speaker 7 (17:22):
And knowing they're putting more on your plate and you
dealt with that before.

Speaker 14 (17:25):
I guess how would you learn to handle that.

Speaker 7 (17:28):
And stay in the moment and take things one at
a time and.

Speaker 6 (17:31):
That or study habits for me are huge.

Speaker 16 (17:34):
You know, I think you want to approach it a
certain way and that's you know, I don't want to
use this quote again, but coach always talks about an
elephant eating one bad bite at a time, and and
for me, it's you got to do it that way.
You gotta you know, break it down, make it easy
to learn and memorize. But then also when you're out there,
it's got to be able to translate as well. So
you know, whenever you can translate you know, the classroom

(17:55):
to the field, that's been huge for me. And that's
whether it's walked throughs, you know, going through the cadence
and calls, you know, getting used to that. But then
also you know, the physical aspect of connecting with receivers,
being able to see a operation pre snap and post.
Now that's all things that, uh, you wanna be extremely
comfortable in so that you can just go out and
play now that.

Speaker 8 (18:16):
You're more familiar with this offense.

Speaker 18 (18:18):
It's just it's just made Uh in what ways is
this system exce excentuat.

Speaker 9 (18:24):
Would you do better?

Speaker 16 (18:26):
You know, I think throughout the process, you know, even
leading up to here, I knew that there's a lot
of similarities you know, in in Oregon and what I
did there, which you know, helped me come in here
in Cleveland. Offensively, I think schematically there's a lot of
things that I have done before in the past, so
I could conceptualize it a lot easier in that way.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
But I think.

Speaker 16 (18:49):
In just my abilities, I I've I've done it, you know,
in in this type of scheme. So it's just now
it's the next level. There's a lot more to do,
and you have to consistently do it. Like like I
always say, it's a results based business.

Speaker 6 (19:01):
So what have you done for me lately?

Speaker 9 (19:04):
Right?

Speaker 6 (19:04):
And that's what I I look forward to.

Speaker 9 (19:06):
Organizations been, you know.

Speaker 14 (19:08):
Really focused on your process as a lot about with
you and any other quarterbacks.

Speaker 6 (19:12):
From what point do the results?

Speaker 14 (19:14):
Uh do you start paying attention to the results?

Speaker 6 (19:16):
From?

Speaker 9 (19:16):
When did the results start to matter for you.

Speaker 16 (19:18):
Outside of the possible great great question, cause you always
want results, but I think more than anything, it's consistent results.
So if you don't have a process you can truly
hang your hat on, then you know you're leaving up
to chance, or maybe it's more inconsistent rather than having
a strong process and of course you know how the
game of football goes.

Speaker 6 (19:35):
There's a lot of positives.

Speaker 16 (19:37):
There may be some negatives, but there's also something to
pridden yourself on.

Speaker 6 (19:41):
Your process and how you work and how you approach it.

Speaker 16 (19:43):
And for me, I think you build up that process
and you wanna see results and it will come. And
definitely know that, like I just said, it's a results
based business, so you gotta go do it. And that's
always we always talk about no excuses, know what to
do and do it. So uh, I think that's the
approach and and knowing that you gotta go out there

(20:04):
and do it you and I'm sure.

Speaker 12 (20:06):
Just so lasting what phases us you know from draft.

Speaker 10 (20:08):
Or work communicants, and you get the camp to that
and you can't now to like.

Speaker 19 (20:12):
You've just developed in different ways or picked up once
certain things or I guess at these stage, you almost
two weeks into training camp, what do you feel like
maybe you've developed.

Speaker 10 (20:20):
Or in the most during its first time?

Speaker 16 (20:21):
Yeah, I think just getting more around the guys. You know,
when you build up rapport with with those guys, you're
able to build a lot more flow and feel a
lot more consistent whether it's tendencies on their routes, you know,
and you know, I bring up with Deontay Johnson, like
just his ability to get in out of cuts a
different way than maybe another receiver, right, being able to
understand that and sorry about that, build that, Uh, timing

(20:46):
up with guys. But then also when you operate within
the offense, Uh, you just want it to be You
wanna be consistent. And I think I've found consistency in
that by you know, calling a play in the huddle,
getting to the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 6 (21:00):
How does it look?

Speaker 16 (21:01):
How do we operate within that so it's consistent, not
through one quarterback.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
But all Offensive coordinator Tommy Reese discusses what he's watching
for in the Browns quarterback competition this week.

Speaker 11 (21:13):
How easy is it sometimes at least we're on the
outside to overreact to what you know, finally getting live
reps against another team, How easy is it? And how
much you have to caution against too much overreaction to
what happens to the Wednesday or Friday.

Speaker 7 (21:30):
Yeah, I think that's human nature.

Speaker 20 (21:32):
But from the very first day we met as an offense,
our messaging has been let's be as process driven as possible. Right,
Let's not look at results positive or negative, and let's
just try to stay in the focus of are we
doing the right things at each position to give ourselves
a chance to be successful. So I think if our players,
our coaches can stay within that framework and that mentality
of hey, let's just focus on the process or our

(21:53):
guys doing the right things that will lead to success,
then hopefully we can avoid any overreactions and save all
the overreactions for you guys, and we'll stay in our
target inside of our building.

Speaker 8 (22:04):
You plan for how you're gonna roll out the four
qbs in the preseason.

Speaker 20 (22:07):
Game, Yeah, we're working through it, obviously, depending on who's
available and whatnot. But yeah, we have a plan in place,
and we're looking forward to those guys getting the opportunities
to work.

Speaker 5 (22:17):
You're talked a lot about boss here.

Speaker 14 (22:19):
In the first couple of weeks of camp.

Speaker 5 (22:21):
At what point do the results.

Speaker 8 (22:22):
Still start to master?

Speaker 6 (22:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 20 (22:23):
I mean, I think when you're focused on the process,
the results start to show themselves. And you feel that
in a certain progression as you go through camp, right
first seven or eight days, you're in an install mode
where you're trying to install offense regardless of what you're
really seeing defensively, and defensively, you're trying to install your
stuff regardless of what you're seeing on offense. And then
once you kind of get past that install phase, you

(22:44):
start focusing, all right, this is who we believe we
can be, this is what fits our team, this is
what fits our personnel, and then you start to build
off of that, and that's when you want to see
the results follow because the process has been laid Hey
to mean, just lo'll.

Speaker 21 (22:57):
Get you at it.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
It looks like Dylan game ruggs strongly, So how do
you assess the way that that he's having this camp?

Speaker 20 (23:07):
Yeah, I mean, I think all four of our guys
have had really positive days and have had some days
where they've not practiced as well as they want to. Certainly,
you're gonna see great days from guys and they're gonna
bounce back the next day and maybe not be as
as polish as we'd want them to be. But we
try to evaluate camp and practices and the off season
in a in a totality and not just trying to

(23:29):
look at one day at a time.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Did you guys.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
Maybe dodge a little bit of a bullet with Shador
Sanders knowing that there's no soreness that's gonna linger with him,
and that also, how have you seen him developed.

Speaker 9 (23:42):
Since the start?

Speaker 20 (23:43):
Yeah, we expect you door to be practicing and every
day he's out there, he you know, has the opportunity
to grow and grow within the offense and get him
more comfortable. So keep coaching him, keep getting him ready
to be out there and participate. But progression is really
important for all of our guys, especially the young ones,
and really this whole rookie class is starting to progress
the way that we need him to.

Speaker 8 (24:03):
I'm a pick it the other day, express concern.

Speaker 9 (24:06):
Even three days.

Speaker 22 (24:07):
Off for him, he set him back and what he's
ink ald in can he.

Speaker 9 (24:12):
Make up that time?

Speaker 7 (24:13):
Yeah, we know Kenny.

Speaker 20 (24:14):
You know he had a good first four practices there
and had a good offseason. So we know Kenny, we
know his strengths. He's chomping at the bit to be
out there and you know, like we talked about hey
better now than you know, butting up into the front
end of the season. So we just got to get
him healthy and he's very into it mentally right now.
He's doing a great job with the rest of the
guys in the room, and he's starting to progress throwing
the ball and doing some things. So we're excited to

(24:36):
get him back when he's healthy.

Speaker 9 (24:38):
With the game knock there, what do you think about.

Speaker 20 (24:44):
Especially the teams, Yeah, they're maximizing their opportunities, right. We
get a chance to evaluate those guys with extended amount
of carries and what schemes fit them the best, and
how we balance those and how we continue to get
him to grow in the others. But both guys are
competing at a high level and doing a nice job.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
Forks go or do you find yourself for doing wards
towards cat schemes this year for one game?

Speaker 7 (25:05):
You know, we want to have a good balance.

Speaker 20 (25:06):
We want to be as diverse in the run game
to keep a defense off base as we can, and
Coach Bloomgreen is gonna have done a great job with
those not just the line but the personnel and figuring
out what fits our runners, and you know, the whole
staff has put together a plan where we can present
a lot of different challenges to a defense to keep
them off balance. But we know the direction we're going

(25:27):
and we feel pretty confident in that it's such.

Speaker 11 (25:29):
A first real exposure up close to Flaco here when
he's here, he is.

Speaker 7 (25:39):
No, I'm not surprised.

Speaker 20 (25:40):
I mean, you guys have all seen like Freddy Couple
swing a golf club. It's kind of like when he
throws a football, kind of looks like that. Right, It's
just he was given an incredible grift to throw the
football and UH fortunate to have him around. Tommy, How
can you, as the offense who are made or designed,
plan whatever it would mean to neutralize that UH.

Speaker 8 (26:02):
Are taking that Dylan gave lep being so short?

Speaker 5 (26:06):
How do you as often according to your account.

Speaker 20 (26:08):
And syncty that, Yeah, you do things. There's they're small
tweaks you can do to help any quarterback. Right, some
guys feel more comfortable under center, some guys feel more
comfortable in the gun.

Speaker 7 (26:17):
Some guys are comfortable with schemes. So put Dylan aside.

Speaker 20 (26:21):
No matter who the quarterback is, there's gonna be things
that you can tweak that are easy changes to put
them in the most comfortable s uh position that that
they can go out and operate with.

Speaker 8 (26:29):
Do you feel like.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
Kenny, especially if he can work his way back into
a couple of the team drills.

Speaker 7 (26:35):
Even if he's just in the pocket over right over.

Speaker 4 (26:37):
The next week, do you feel like he still has
a legitimate chance to stay firmly in the mixt You
have enough time to get him back.

Speaker 6 (26:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 20 (26:44):
We're excited to get Kenny back and healthy and get
him competing. You know, there's no set timetable, and when
Kenny's healthy and out there, we're excited to get him back.

Speaker 11 (26:52):
Sure, there's a lot of throwing before and after practice
because it's reps in with the sore arm.

Speaker 9 (26:59):
He studies had a history of that. They you guys
scale that.

Speaker 20 (27:02):
Back that Yeah, that's up to you know, that's not
my expertise when it comes to the medical side of
the arm. There's been conversations about routine and what gets
us warm and what gets us ready. And I feel
pretty confident in the in the plan in place to
make sure that we can be readily available in practice.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
I mean, I know there's such a emphasis it felt
like a recommitment to the run game. Does that change
at all when you know the number thirty six pick
isn't here and we don't know when we're back, and assuming.

Speaker 20 (27:29):
He was going to be you know main Yeah, the
run game takes eleven guys, right, So to just say, hey,
one guy's not here, got to scrap that, That's that's
not our mentality at all, right. I mean, to truly
be a great running team, you need the wide outs,
you need the quarterbacks, you need everybody to be bought
into it. So we feel confident in our ability right
now of how we're running it and who we're putting

(27:50):
out there.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
I mean, if all four quarterbacks are healthy, do you
expect them all to play.

Speaker 9 (27:55):
That first preseason game.

Speaker 20 (27:56):
I'll leave that up to coach to answer those questions
about the rotation and where we're going in the preseason games.

Speaker 23 (28:01):
You guys have ye sip you can see from the
rest of those guys.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
To kind of shape out of what we want to do.

Speaker 7 (28:10):
Yeah, consistently.

Speaker 20 (28:11):
You know they talk all the time, get open, catch
the ball, and compete in the run game, and that's
their mantra, and that's what they're doing. You guys are
out here Saturday, I thought said had his best practice
of camp, made a couple of really nice contested catches,
and he's doing so many things for us in a
totality standpoint of helping our offense. It was great to
see him get going a little bit, and we feel
really good about the pieces there and being able to

(28:31):
move guys to certain spots to maximize what they do.
But just keep going on the trajectory they're at and
we'll find ways to build them advantageous looks to get open.

Speaker 7 (28:39):
I'm sorry, what do you think.

Speaker 8 (28:42):
Of new camp that I'm ready?

Speaker 6 (28:44):
Four?

Speaker 9 (28:44):
Ever been? Yeah?

Speaker 20 (28:46):
Gage has done a really nice shot, right, He's shown up.
He's competed, you know, from the day he stepped foot
with us in the offseason. He's knowing what to do
and knowing how to do it. And when you put
in that work, good results as you follow. I know
it was one practice work and said the d line,
who's living in a backfield? Yeah, overall, how do you
think you're lying? I know it's more than life, but
the line's done.

Speaker 7 (29:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (29:07):
In the run, you know, the runs inside runes.

Speaker 20 (29:11):
Yeah, Coach Bloom's done a great job with those guys.
Those guys are completely bought in.

Speaker 6 (29:15):
You know.

Speaker 20 (29:15):
It's funny and once you put on pads, it's crazy
how much easier it is to block.

Speaker 7 (29:19):
Right.

Speaker 20 (29:19):
So we just got to continue to focus on the
fundamentals and work like it is so important that those
guys get as many reps together as possible, right, Like
the communication, the nuance of passing things off. It takes
a lot of time and repetition, and so that's where
our focus is. And look, they love the when we're
able to move the ball and balance the run in
the past and not being a third and long situation.

(29:41):
So those guys are completely bought in, really pleased with
the progression there. And again Bloom's done a great job
with that. So it's coach Wilkerson and Sanders who works
with them as well, So all three of them have
that have that group going in the right direction.

Speaker 19 (29:54):
How do you think the Wan specifically has handled this
move and working on.

Speaker 20 (29:58):
The west side and like along, yeah, dealing with you
see him get frustrated, but who doesn't, right, yeah, no, no,
And we put Dewan in challenging situations by design, right,
We give him help when we think we need to.
But look, he's continuing to progress. We you know, he's
worked really hard to get him to a place where

(30:18):
we feel like he can be out there for a
sustained amount of time. And he's progressing well, and he's
bought in, right, now and we have him working in
the right direction again. You know, my house wasn't exactly
out there the whole day Saturday, but but Dewan really
had a strong practice and every rep he does take
and every time he faces that success, it's really a
positive step for us as an offense. And again, please

(30:40):
with Dewan right now, just want to keep him in
the right place and keep moving forward and buying into
the technique. Can't here, Yeah, no, Harold's He's moved around
all over the place for us, catches everything. You know,
you saw it on his college film how much he
competes in the run game and has value there.

Speaker 7 (30:57):
So you know it's termed far as a rookie goes.

Speaker 20 (31:00):
He's really done everything we've asked and we've put a
lot on his plate and excited about where he is
in his progression right now.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
Have you see Deanty Johnson make strides and as we've
gone deeper into camp.

Speaker 20 (31:13):
Yeah, you know, I think for Tay was, hey, get back,
we gotta get back into playing shape, get back in
the playbook. And you know, every day he's been here,
the comfort level seems to grow, and his relationship with
the quarterbacks and the players seem to grow. And look,
when you wrap as many guys as you do, sometimes
you lose the timing that you build the rapport of.
So all those reps, all those throws are valuable for

(31:34):
us right now. And Tays certainly done a nice job.

Speaker 11 (31:38):
One of developing that poor and how important is it
to in the next week or so kind of whittle
that that rotation down at quarterbacks so that these guys
can't guys like Jerry and beyond the hens started developing
a hole with whoever.

Speaker 7 (31:54):
Might be though.

Speaker 20 (31:55):
Yeah, that'll continue to progress this camp goes on, and
you know we'll have plenty of throws and reps over
the next but is it four weeks to make sure
that we're ready to go?

Speaker 7 (32:03):
Come you know early September you coached and.

Speaker 6 (32:07):
Year.

Speaker 7 (32:07):
Yeah, are you pleased with us care for year? Yeah? Yeah?
I think he's had one drop so far.

Speaker 20 (32:16):
And you know, Dave's done a nice job of getting
back and being ready to go and really bought in
right now, really love where his mentality is. And he's
doing so many positive things for our offense right now,
and you know we need him as a leader and
as a proven player to continue on that stride.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
Is he even bigger than he was last year?

Speaker 4 (32:34):
I mean it looks he almost looks like he's blacked up.

Speaker 7 (32:36):
A little bit to help in the blocking game, or yeah,
I think maybe, yeah, maybe not.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz talks about how Denzel Ward is
the best cornerback he's ever coached.

Speaker 8 (32:51):
It's more of a general.

Speaker 9 (32:52):
Question about your philosophy.

Speaker 11 (32:54):
Worked for Bill and Nick here, you go to Baltimore,
you work for Marvin. You know, how do all those
philosophies sort of come together to form you know, this
the philosophy you've kind of come to say.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
I don't say as your own, but it's the one
that's attributed.

Speaker 6 (33:11):
So much to you.

Speaker 9 (33:12):
Yeah, you do.

Speaker 10 (33:13):
You take a little bit from coaches that you've met
along the way, not just in schemes, but just in
ways they handle situations, ways they organize, ways they organized.

Speaker 9 (33:23):
Their staff, the way they deal with players.

Speaker 10 (33:25):
You know, you're watching, like, hey, that was really good
the way Marvin did this, or hey, the way you
know Bill did that. If I'm ever in that situation,
I'll do the same thing. I think. Scheme wise, though,
it probably comes more just from success and failure in
the in the league, you know, And I was I
was telling somebody before. A lot of what we built

(33:47):
with the defensive front came when I was at Tennessee
and we had the challenge of facing Gary Kubiak's Texans,
which were wide zone and stretch, and Peyton Manning which
was wide zone and those heavy play actions in quick passes,
and then Jacksonville, which was a heavy, heavy power run game.

Speaker 9 (34:08):
And you know, there's no greater teacher in this league
than failure.

Speaker 10 (34:11):
Right, you know, And we spent a lot of time
on learning, like what doesn't work, and then you sort
of refine and you're like, okay, that works. Plus you know,
things sort of roll back, you know, like mobile quarterback. Well,
you've already had Michael Vick. So the next time whatever
Lamar Jackson comes, it's like, well, I knew how to
get my buck beat beat by Michael Vick. Let's try

(34:33):
to change some of those some of those things. So
it's it's i'd say probably fifty to fifty in schemes
and taking things from different coaches, whether it's you know,
organization or or dealing with the players or dealing with
the other coaches, and then also just experiencing the league

(34:56):
playing those other things. So go ahead, I'm sorry, what
did they do? Yeah, both of those guys are are
really doing well. I mean, let's let's not put him
in the Hall of Fame yet. They're both rookies. But
I'll start with Mace. Mace has really made a tremendous

(35:17):
turnaround in his body composition. I don't know if you
guys have noticed it, but it's it's it's been significant
from the time he got here after the draft to
the shape he's in now. He's his metrics are like
much much improved. He's running a lot faster, and there
was an adjustment. He played a red scheme where he

(35:37):
was hunkering at the line of scrimmage, so he didn't
get a chance to make a lot of sacks or
those tackles for losses, even though he's really productive in
what he did. So not only was he sort of
changing his body composition, but he was like learning a
whole new way to play defense, which is attack. And
there's been, you know, some setbacks along the way. But
the thing with Mace is he's taken two steps forward

(36:00):
for every one step back he's taken. So he's gaining
ground and you're starting to see him make more plays.
I think it was Friday he had one of the
best rushes he's had in practice. He just it was
a b gap rush and it was just beating the
guard with speed. Nothing fancy about it, but that was
something that we really had to see in a lot

(36:21):
of you know, back in OTAs.

Speaker 9 (36:24):
And in May so been happy with him.

Speaker 10 (36:26):
There's still gonna be some adjustment anybody that's going to
a new scheme like that, there's going to be some
one step forward, two steps or two steps forward one
step back.

Speaker 9 (36:36):
But as long as it's not one step forward one step.

Speaker 10 (36:38):
Back, he's making progress and really excited to see him
against some other competition and then see him in some
games and seeing that translate. You know, we could we
could be a long time talking about Carson because he
you know, with Jordan Nick's retirement, you know, it really
accelerated his timeline of getting him. But everything we've had

(37:00):
from him, not only has he been able to do,
but he's he's done a better job than, you know,
than maybe what we expected. He's got great size, he's
got great quickness, he's got great speed, he's got great instincts,
and he's made just as many mistakes as any other.

Speaker 9 (37:18):
Rookie, but he has not made any repeat mistakes.

Speaker 10 (37:23):
And I think you guys have seen some of the
physicality that he's brought to our practices.

Speaker 9 (37:27):
His communication is as much improved.

Speaker 10 (37:31):
A college guy coming in is a different communication than
in college because a lot of colleges they look over
for the signal.

Speaker 9 (37:37):
Nobody really says anything here. He's, you know, a rookie.

Speaker 10 (37:41):
He's he's got to command the huddle, he's got to
make calls and and do a lot more more things
like that, and he's he's he's excelled in all those things.
Really really excited for him, and I'm really happy to
have both of those guys.

Speaker 19 (37:54):
You guys lost more numbers. And last week, obviously to that,
Achilles said, what were your hopes for him this year?

Speaker 16 (38:01):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (38:01):
What's your kind of playing tough?

Speaker 10 (38:03):
Yeah, Martin means a lot to us, and I I
thought he was really primed for a comeback year.

Speaker 9 (38:09):
You know, he was, he was in great shade.

Speaker 10 (38:12):
He he was he was hungry, his attitude was great,
and unfortunately he had the injury.

Speaker 9 (38:18):
We have a veteran like Greg Newsom that's played inside
and outside, but.

Speaker 10 (38:23):
We'll put a little bit more on Greg. But Greg's
Gregg's you know, been played a lot of football for US.
So it's really just gonna open up a lot more
for Nickel, competition for n U, the third outside corner competition,
those kind of things. So you know it, Uh, there's it.
There's good competition there, and we need some guys to

(38:46):
be able to step in.

Speaker 16 (38:47):
So Greg gona ask you the repof fact to kind
of lose it Mark members as he kind of just
glass that THEO.

Speaker 10 (38:54):
So who was taking the lead on that inside Well,
inside we have we have we have two veteran players
for US, one a veteran meaning young vets, cam And
and Miles.

Speaker 9 (39:10):
You know, and they're they're really just working through.

Speaker 10 (39:14):
Just like everybody else, just being consistent, being physical and
playing with a great effort. And you know, s somebody,
somebody's gonna end up taking that job, and it's gonna
be based on the body of work from training camp
and pre season and all those other things. But we
play a lot of dbs, so we'll need all those

(39:36):
guys as we go.

Speaker 5 (39:37):
As as you talked.

Speaker 7 (39:39):
About Carson, I guess I'm curious if you ever had.

Speaker 9 (39:42):
A rookie be like a.

Speaker 8 (39:45):
Defense in your career and then all of that with
Jordan's gone, you.

Speaker 7 (39:48):
Know you're maybe st is it all on Carson is
sort of.

Speaker 9 (39:51):
Assume that leadership role or you're seeing that.

Speaker 8 (39:53):
Sort of spread. Uh uh.

Speaker 10 (39:55):
The leadership stuff will will come from playing good and
and you know, preparing well and earning the respect of
his teammates. You know, that's th That's something that you
don't just like it's not a switch you you hit,
or it's just not a card you get a now
now you're a leader.

Speaker 9 (40:14):
It comes, I mean, y P.

Speaker 10 (40:15):
People respect preparation, they respect hard work, they respect communication,
they respect good play.

Speaker 9 (40:21):
On the field.

Speaker 10 (40:22):
If he does those things, leadership leadership will take care
of itself.

Speaker 9 (40:27):
What was the other part of it?

Speaker 4 (40:29):
A rookie name?

Speaker 9 (40:31):
Oh yeah, I've had a j I've multiple rookies.

Speaker 10 (40:33):
Last one I had was probably Presston Brown in Buffalo
who was a third or fourth round pick and made
all the calls and was outstanding.

Speaker 9 (40:42):
I mean, it's you know it, it's something those guys
can do.

Speaker 4 (40:46):
When you talk to why else he has a site
center as a player result in to Hi also to
to get you guys into yourself to have your best.

Speaker 8 (40:57):
Player on the team talking like that.

Speaker 10 (41:02):
Yeah, congratuations on Bill known if that's fantastic. Got I
got to meet him back when I was sort of
in the scouting world, legend legend guy, but uh, congratulations
on that.

Speaker 9 (41:16):
Miles.

Speaker 10 (41:16):
We we sort of go as a defense as Miles goes,
you know, the right of the pack determined by the
lead dog. And we played good on defense when Miles
is playing good. So I think setting that standard means
a lot defensive player to the year he's been that.

Speaker 9 (41:34):
I think all our guys have been challenged to take
another step.

Speaker 10 (41:38):
If you're on the practice squad trying to earn a
spot on the roster, if you were on the roster
trying to earn a play time or starting spot, you're
a starter trying to elevate to a Pro Bowl status,
you know. I I really think the next step from
Miles is not defensive player to year he's sort of
been there, done That.

Speaker 9 (41:56):
Next step for him is MVP candidate MM And you.

Speaker 10 (42:00):
Know, if we're playing good on defense and he's he's
at the heart of that, I think he's in that
conversation he is a obviously a marked man in every game,
sees doubles people. You know, we move him around. He
still wears number ninety five, right, and he still looks
like he does so it's easy for opponents to find him.

(42:24):
But my definition of a great player is when the
opponent says, we're taking this guy out, this guy is
not going to beat us, and he can still have
that production and that effectiveness. I think it sets a big,
big standard and a big statement. And I would say
we also have to be better around bombs, right, and

(42:49):
we have to be able to win one on ones
in pass rush when he does get doubled, because that'll
help if we can win those one on ones. And
the offense says, well, we can't afford to put so
much tension and on Miles because this guy is wearing
us out or these other guys are wearing us out.
Then it opens things up. So we need that sort
of one plus one equals three to some of your

(43:10):
The some is greater than the individual parts, and I
think that's a challenge for us.

Speaker 13 (43:14):
Also, Jimmy howsn't we thought about Kevin's Stefanski last week,
and he made a point to emphasize Kevin's age only
four forty three, the idea of being, you know, still
a young coach with the of room to develop.

Speaker 5 (43:26):
You've been around a lot of the great coaches in
your time.

Speaker 19 (43:27):
Where do you see Kevin on the on his professional
development curve right now?

Speaker 9 (43:31):
Oh? I don't worry about that. He's the he's he
he's a head coach. I have so much respect for Kevin.
He's he's so even yea U.

Speaker 10 (43:39):
I think everybody has a little different style, right Like
I'm I'm a little bit more emotional. I'm a little
bit more like where your where your emotions on your
sleeve and things like that. And just the thing I
respect about Kevin is just how even keeled he is.
And if you want, if you want teams to play well,
you need a lot of different ways to touch it.

(44:01):
And I think Kevin just just that that steady you know,
like if if you ever, if you ever on a sailboat,
you know you don't look just in the immediate.

Speaker 9 (44:12):
Front of the sailboat.

Speaker 10 (44:12):
You keep your eye on the horizon and you wanna
stand that true course, I think Kevin just exemplifies that.

Speaker 11 (44:20):
There's always at scenes in train to camp generally and
you're in your third year, guys in their third so
so understandable.

Speaker 9 (44:30):
I guess with the quarterback deals, can.

Speaker 11 (44:33):
You evaluate in your own mind does this look like the.

Speaker 9 (44:36):
Real deal or do you have to be shown? Yeah?

Speaker 10 (44:39):
Yeah, well, I mean I think you do see good signs, right,
and you're looking for communication, and you're looking for individual effort,
and you're looking for things like that.

Speaker 9 (44:52):
But when it's all said and done, it's got to
be on the field, you.

Speaker 10 (44:56):
Know, and and what happens in training camp that can
be good signs, and that can sort of lead you
in a direction. But until you until you do it
on the field, and you do it consistently on the field,
that's I I That's all it is. It is just
a good a good sign. So we're we're focused on
trying to improve every day and those things to set

(45:18):
us up. Like again, like y, you can't you can't
start at the end of the journey. You can't say, hey,
we're we wanna be a great defense, because then you
lose the day to day. You gotta say, hey, look,
let's go out and and make make progress today. Let's
go attack this day and learn from my mistakes. Let's

(45:39):
emphasize our talent. Let's compete, and if you do those things,
you do those things consistently, then you'll, you know, you'll
you'll get to where you wanna go.

Speaker 9 (45:49):
But this time of the year, we're really just trying
to keep our eyes on on what's there that day
and and not worry about a whole lot other than that.

Speaker 8 (45:57):
It would like just go more and Z and.

Speaker 4 (46:01):
A level which I don't even know if so what
but uh, and then he's also any for NFL as.

Speaker 10 (46:07):
A player to yourself, what, Yeah, he's a He's I
I've always admired Denzel as a player when when I've
been on other teams and just the way he goes
about doing his things is is just impressive to see
to see up close. They knew some guys that have
coached him in the past that they you know, they said, like,

(46:28):
you're gonna love Denzel, and I certainly do.

Speaker 9 (46:31):
I've had some good corners in the past.

Speaker 10 (46:35):
He's probably the best corner I've had in thirty some
years in the thirty some years in the NFL. The
thing I like about Denzel is just how consistent he
is with his preparation. He never phones in a performance.
He's making a big effort this year to be more physical.
I put hands on cause he's he's such a great
shadow guy, and he's working a little bit more now,

(46:57):
being a little more physical at the line of scrimmage,
give us a little bit more run support, and just sort.

Speaker 9 (47:03):
Of rounding out some other parts of the game.

Speaker 10 (47:06):
When it's all said and done, the biggest thing is
he just needs to finish so those pbu's with i nts.
You know, he was so so productive and in getting
pbu's last year, but left a lot of meat on
the bone. And you know, the third down stop that's
a that's a PBu becomes a game changing play when
it's an I n T. And that's probably the biggest

(47:27):
thing for him to really make that next step because
there were really opportunities there. He knows that, and you know,
the finishing the play thing when he does that will
be uh, you know, we'll be in a really good spot.

Speaker 9 (47:40):
On defense.

Speaker 19 (47:41):
We see him matched up with like Carol Center, So
I mean he can match up with any size, any speed,
Like how unique is that in the corner for him
to basically just be able to match up again.

Speaker 9 (47:51):
Say, well, you know he does it with his own style.

Speaker 10 (47:54):
I think the biggest thing with him is he doesn't
really change his style for which whether it's Chirr, Judy
or Tilley or or Harold or you know, maybe even Joku.
He he gets out there sometimes with with him, he
just works on his own craft. He's he We've used
him to match different receivers, play right and left. We've

(48:15):
switched him in camp a little bit here and there,
you know, So I don't I don't know that it's
that it's unusual in your corner. Over the course of
seventeen plus games, there's gonna be a lot of different
kind of matchups, you know.

Speaker 9 (48:29):
I mean we open with Jamar Chase and.

Speaker 10 (48:33):
Okay, now Higgins, Yeah, my my Tennessee basketball guy, mister
basketball in Tennessee as a high school player. Com I mean,
like Jamar is not a small receiver, but he's got
s quickness of a smaller guy.

Speaker 9 (48:51):
And t.

Speaker 10 (48:52):
Higg is just so big and it's just a different style.
But you know, so he's gonna have challenge right out
the gate. So well, we'll get exposure to all that
stuff in camp.

Speaker 23 (49:02):
Do you think you talk about during ots in many
campus improving their down percentage in the takeaways aspect of even.

Speaker 22 (49:08):
Where we are in camp right now, how do you
see you guys kind of embody that.

Speaker 23 (49:12):
Mentality to improve those areas and they kind of what's
been done, what are they focus on?

Speaker 10 (49:17):
Yeah, probably the biggest thing with with takeaways has been
us attacking the ball. I mean, I think it's pretty
obviously anybody's watched. You see nine guys attacking the ball
and number one. That helps us and we've gotten some
loose balls that way. But also it helps our offensive guys.
If we're attacking the ball and being so productive there
forces them to have better ball security, So that works

(49:40):
hand in hand training camp, a lot of times it
is hard to read for interceptions because so many interceptions
come from a quarterback either thrown before he wanted to
or getting hit when he's thrown thrown, or making a mistake.
And in training camp, when you're not hitting the quarterback,
and those guys know they're not gonna hit, they generally
don't make those kind of mistakes.

Speaker 9 (50:02):
So you know that that that'll just be more.

Speaker 10 (50:04):
But we we have sort of emphasized a little bit
more of a playmaker attitude, so taking some calculative risks
here and there, and hopefully that'll show up on the
field along with the the ball disruption attempts that we've tried.

Speaker 9 (50:25):
Each other.

Speaker 14 (50:26):
That's what you noticed with uh Isaiah and Alex or
how they pressed them along.

Speaker 12 (50:31):
How much have they embrace kind of competition under themselves.

Speaker 10 (50:34):
Yeah, we have great competition at at defensive defensive end
in particular.

Speaker 9 (50:39):
We got a lot of guys that have started a
lot of games in the NFL.

Speaker 10 (50:42):
You mentioned Zay, you mentioned Alex put put camp, Thomas
out there who's had an outstanding camp, but Julian out there,
who's had an outstanding camp.

Speaker 9 (50:51):
kJ new to us. He may have played the other day,
he's been physical for us.

Speaker 10 (50:56):
All those guys are gonna play in the NFL, and
it's gonna make us better the competition that they bring
because they got to be on their game every day
or somebody else is going to be. So we want
to see physicality out of those guys. Those guys you
mentioned are both physical players for us. They had to
play in practice the other day where he literally took
three blockers and knocked them back into the backfield.

Speaker 9 (51:18):
It was a tackle for a loss.

Speaker 10 (51:19):
On a play when we're doing that when we're being
disruptive up front, we're gonna get those lost yards plays.

Speaker 9 (51:26):
We're gonna be around the quarterback.

Speaker 10 (51:28):
But you know, if you're if if you're just somebody
coming out to watch practice, that competition is something to
watch because, like you roll through and we'll have our
our end of practice extra reps. We'll have guys that
are running thirteam. I really don't care what group you're running.
It it's all about getting reps. But you're seeing veteran

(51:49):
players in those that are out there trying to improve
and and trying to prove themselves. I think it's outstanding
for us and I'm i'm I'm excited to watch all
those guys playing route for all of them, And like
I said, I think all those guys will end up
on teams and probably all getting significant playtime this year.

Speaker 1 (52:07):
Up next, special teams coordinator Bubba vent Tron talks about
some rule changes that may affect the kickoff.

Speaker 11 (52:14):
How big is this week for you guys, both the
practice and the game to just finally be able to
see live your group specifically, we.

Speaker 21 (52:24):
Were talking about that today with the specialists. It's it'll
be nice for us to be able to compete against
a different team rather than just going against each other
in practice.

Speaker 22 (52:34):
So excited for the opportunity to go down there to
Carolina and compete. Honestly, it's been like the theme of
this whole campus compete.

Speaker 2 (52:43):
And we talked about ramping up the intensity and the
urgency and then we see live tackling the first time,
I think under Kevin here, So have you seen what
you've wanted to in that aspect during the first whatever
week was a camp?

Speaker 21 (52:57):
Yeah, And I think you know, coaches delivered a clear
and concise message to our team that we need to
play harder, we need to practice harder, we need to
we need to do things like we're gonna do in
the game. And I think that being able to go
live and control that control that period on how we're tackling.
You know, you don't see you're not seeing a lot

(53:18):
of load tackles in that period. Obviously we're staying away
from the quarterback, taking care of each other where and
and still playing at a high, high speed and getting
guys on the ground.

Speaker 22 (53:29):
So it's been good.

Speaker 12 (53:31):
How much easier, maybe easier of that were with the
kick returns this year instead of last year of first
year and being all new.

Speaker 9 (53:39):
In terms of practice.

Speaker 21 (53:41):
Yeah, last year we were just trying to figure out
the play, you know, and I would say everybody in
the league has a much better grasp on everything that
goes into that play.

Speaker 22 (53:53):
And obviously they made the adjustment to have.

Speaker 21 (53:56):
The touch back to the thirty five, So that's obviously
gonna impact the play and we're to see a lot
more return balls.

Speaker 5 (54:02):
You think the process for evaluating to kick your.

Speaker 21 (54:05):
Positions this year, Yeah, I mean in in any position,
especially that position, you want consistency, you know, the consistency
inconsistency with the results. So I think that that's gonna
be a big, big part of the evaluation here in
the next few weeks.

Speaker 5 (54:21):
You guys have like a consultant, uh, evaluate with where
is it just.

Speaker 22 (54:26):
How No, it's just it's just whoever's here?

Speaker 9 (54:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (54:30):
Special teams coach for the first two preseason games.

Speaker 9 (54:33):
Like the Super Bowl.

Speaker 22 (54:35):
In in in terms of.

Speaker 8 (54:37):
Get out there and you're putting guys in speed situations.

Speaker 21 (54:40):
Yeah, I mean a lot of the the preseason is
it's it's challenging because there's so many substitutions that that occur.
Some guys are on like, uh, if they're playing offensive defense,
they may play like ten to fifteen snaps. So then
you gotta manage when that guy is gonna be able
to factor for you. He may play only the first
quarter on some units, you're there's a lot of guys

(55:01):
coming in and out, So we always hit on that
hard and harp on that to everyone. Be locked in,
uh to what's going on in the game, the situation
in the game, and then the players. The coaches need
to have good communication with me and Kyle uh, so
we can always have the right guys.

Speaker 22 (55:17):
On the field executing, you know, at the best of
their ability.

Speaker 18 (55:21):
So would you like it sounds like he's been an
interest moment once throughout any camp.

Speaker 22 (55:27):
Yeah, what are you expecting?

Speaker 21 (55:31):
Yeah, he's been. He's been really good. He's he's been
very consistent. His directional looks better than it has in
the past. I would say he's obviously got a very
explosive and powerful leg. I think being it for him,
being able to match the the hang times to the
distances is important and eliminate the mishit balls and also

(55:52):
the balls where we're hitting it too far with not
enough hang. So I think that that's been a focus
for him that he's done a really good job of
in this early part of camp.

Speaker 2 (56:00):
We can normal rep camp for Dustin so far, Like
I don't remember, like Kevin said, there was one, but
I remember a lot of team kicky periods. I know
he's gonna kick myself.

Speaker 8 (56:10):
But do you think is this been a normal camp
for him?

Speaker 3 (56:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 22 (56:13):
I think, I mean, I think so.

Speaker 21 (56:14):
We We've probably done a little bit more team stuff.
We're gonna hit another team field goal period today with
both guys. But I kind of wanted to just get
him a little bit more involved in the team setting.
So I think that I think that'll ultimately will help.

Speaker 5 (56:28):
Do you consider him with somebody in the competition right now?

Speaker 21 (56:31):
Everybody's in competition. Everybody's in competition. That's why we have
all these numbers at every single position. So I think
comp I mean everybody says this, but competition aut ultimately.

Speaker 22 (56:42):
Brings out the best in everybody. It really does.

Speaker 21 (56:45):
So when you're being pushed, you're probably gonna perform at
a better at a higher level.

Speaker 6 (56:51):
Uh.

Speaker 22 (56:52):
Balance shaping say it again.

Speaker 5 (56:54):
How's a pot return?

Speaker 8 (56:55):
Balls? Shipping up? Good?

Speaker 6 (56:58):
Good?

Speaker 21 (56:58):
We We've got an we I would say we have
more ball handlers this year than we've had in the
last two years. We've we've got some young guys that
we're gonna look at this upcoming week. Uh Luke will
get some time back there. Kayden Davis will get some
time back there.

Speaker 9 (57:11):
Uh.

Speaker 22 (57:12):
So excited about the group we're working with.

Speaker 14 (57:14):
Basically between those two guys that we see the return feelings.

Speaker 5 (57:20):
All the time, it's basically between those two guys.

Speaker 22 (57:24):
Well, you've got DC too, I mean, DC is the
main guy.

Speaker 21 (57:27):
So those young guys, we wanna see what they can
do and and they're gonna both play in the game and.

Speaker 22 (57:32):
Get reps what He's got a good little skill set.

Speaker 21 (57:40):
He's a little bit shorter than me, so I don't
know if that's a that's a uh to his advantage,
but he's tough. He's got definitely got a really good
short area quickness. He's got a pretty good feel for
the techniques that we're trying to do. He's a tough kid.
So excited to see him play in the in the
in the practice today, and then obviously in the game.

Speaker 7 (58:01):
In terms of kick.

Speaker 12 (58:02):
Returns, you think we'll see more of the bounce kicks
this year in the landing area because that's when the.

Speaker 22 (58:07):
Point of engagement can be Unfortunately, Yeah, I do.

Speaker 21 (58:13):
I wanted to push the the ball being short of
the landing zone to the fifty or the forty five,
and it's gonna stay at the forty for now.

Speaker 22 (58:21):
At least.

Speaker 21 (58:23):
I think that there's a chance that the play could
get messy. I'm hoping that that's not the case, but
I think that if the touchback goes to the thirty
five talked about this in the spring. If the touchback
goes to the thirty five yard line and the ball
goes out of bounds, right, the ball goes to the
forty So you're only losing five yards there. So is

(58:43):
it advantageous to put the ball on the ground and
have a and have a potentially a better coverage play.

Speaker 9 (58:49):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 22 (58:52):
It could go either way. I'm hoping that it doesn't
go that way.

Speaker 5 (58:54):
But what do you see out of Carson Switzer?

Speaker 2 (58:57):
Jer And it looked like we were watching that one
drill last week kind of find.

Speaker 9 (59:00):
Of the end zone.

Speaker 22 (59:01):
Yeah, it looked like he had a couple of really
good reps.

Speaker 21 (59:03):
Yeah, he's just a he's a super super smart kid.
I mean, when I evaluated him. I was like, the
first thing that pops off the tape is he's so
instinctive and he just finds his way and has a
knack to get to the ball, really good at shedding blocks.

Speaker 22 (59:20):
He reads it out fast, he triggers faster than most.
Love the kid.

Speaker 21 (59:25):
He's tough, He's got good size and length, so that
shows up a lot. And he's he's fast. I mean
he can he covers ground, very very into everything that
we're doing and open to do everything.

Speaker 8 (59:39):
So were you able to kind of you.

Speaker 11 (59:42):
Know, I don't know how much you watched the you know,
the Hall of Fame game and just yeah, I watched
the whole thing. How much just kind of knee jerk reactions.
Were you able to kind of get initial reaction takeaways?
Were you able to get from the adjusted kickoff watching
it there and how they those two teams did it.

Speaker 5 (59:58):
Obviously you're gonna get more or data.

Speaker 21 (01:00:00):
But just the data, yeah, there wasn't much, I would
say relative to the play in general, there wasn't a
ton of difference from what we saw last year with
the play. You're always using those early games in camp
to be able to show your players and use those
as examples on good technique, bad technique. Okay, this is

(01:00:21):
a good run, this is a good play. You know,
you saw the muff by one of the returners, Like,
we obviously don't want to do that, things like that
to be able to correct. So I think that there's
a lot of things you can take from, especially the
early games in training camp where you have a lot
where there's a lot of young players on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
So it was a Anthony Kendall ack guy that you'd
always kept an eye on as a potential like.

Speaker 21 (01:00:46):
Key, Yeah, he had a he had a productive rookie
season in Tennessee. Obviously, Raves was here last year. Ravees
liked them enough to keep him on that roster. He
got nicked up last year, so yeah, he's been He's
been a factor at the gunner position. He's fast, he's
got some toughness. So yeah, he was a guy. He

(01:01:09):
was a guy that we looked at whenever he was
coming out of college.

Speaker 1 (01:01:12):
Finally, head coach Kevin Stefanski talks about Hall of Famer
Joe Thomas helping out the offensive line this week.

Speaker 15 (01:01:19):
Okay, last day of open practice, so you know we're
gonna miss our fans, but they've been terrific all camp.
It's our guys get a tremendous amount of juice from
our fans. These young kids that are out here. It's
been a really a special few days out here.

Speaker 22 (01:01:34):
So that's a I want to.

Speaker 15 (01:01:35):
Acknowledge our fans first and foremost. Injury front, Miles will
be back out here today. He's feeling good. Dylan Gabriel's
dealing with a little bit of tightness in his hamstring,
so he'll be limited a bit and then Shador he's good,
you know, aposaur in his in his arm, his throwing shoulder,
but getting treatment and he should be fine.

Speaker 8 (01:01:54):
Also, you're gonna.

Speaker 15 (01:01:55):
See we have a celebrity guest out here today coaching,
a guy named Joe Thomas will be helping out the
offensive lined. So anytime Joe's around and and we can
mind him for everything he's worth worth, we're gonna do that.
So he's back in the old line meeting rooms getting
his football fix and where we're happy to have him.
But with that, I'll take any questions.

Speaker 9 (01:02:13):
So no team drills for doing today or he will.

Speaker 8 (01:02:16):
He'll be limited. He'll be in some drills, but I
like Kenny, not yet ready to go, Kevin.

Speaker 11 (01:02:23):
Have you made any final decision ready to announce what
like kind of what the rotation.

Speaker 8 (01:02:27):
May be for joint practices in the in the Carolina game.

Speaker 15 (01:02:31):
Yeah, I'd say working through it. We'll hold some guys
out of the game, but we're looking forward to the game.

Speaker 6 (01:02:37):
You know.

Speaker 15 (01:02:37):
That's a that's a fun part for our players, uh
to to get down there and compete against the Panthers
on Wednesday, compete against them Friday night.

Speaker 8 (01:02:44):
But we will hold some guys out.

Speaker 9 (01:02:46):
Could you give some details on the format for Wednesday?

Speaker 15 (01:02:50):
Be very similar to joint practices that you've seen before, Tony.
We'll we'll do a couple of different special teams periods
to make sure we hit all four phases. We'll have
a seven on evan, a couple seven on sevens, we'll
have team. So it's it's, you know, again, first time
that we've done it in week one, So we won't
do a two minute per se which we'll do the
following week in Philadelphia. We're working through those type of things.

Speaker 8 (01:03:12):
Thank Kevin.

Speaker 17 (01:03:13):
How what do you guys look forward to in the
joint practicing and the first preseason game?

Speaker 5 (01:03:18):
What already live in accomplience.

Speaker 15 (01:03:19):
Well, I think the fun part for us as as
competitors is you get to go against somebody else and
we have a ton of respect for a coach Canalis
and the Panthers, so we're looking forward to getting a
really good day's work with them on Wednesday, and then
the game is really a fun for our organization.

Speaker 8 (01:03:36):
It's fun for our guys.

Speaker 15 (01:03:37):
They finally get to be out there and they're keeping
score and we get to put guys in different positions
when it comes to situational ball and those type of things.
So that first preseason game is there's a lot of jitters,
as there always is for the young men, but we'll
talk to them about that, but great opportunity just to compete.

Speaker 17 (01:03:54):
This nice help is all quarterbacks expected to distant play
a time in the first preseason game.

Speaker 8 (01:03:59):
We'll work through that in the next companies. How far
did get go?

Speaker 12 (01:04:02):
But I really didn't just did as far as scripting
the practice.

Speaker 8 (01:04:07):
How he outs up then, so far it's been great.

Speaker 15 (01:04:09):
What you do typically is obviously Dave and I talked
way back when about this and and and he's been
a gracious host and getting this thing organized for us.
And then I'll have the We have had our coordinators
on on the horn with their coordinators just to get
organized in terms of what both sides need to see.

Speaker 4 (01:04:26):
Was it any kind of a relief that Shador's arm
there's nothing serious and the fact that he self reported
when he's in the middle of a heated competition, what
did you think of that for what you're doing?

Speaker 15 (01:04:35):
Yeah, well, I think he was just sure, honestly, Mary
Kay and I think obviously he'll look at his process
making sure that his arm's ready to go, and but
it's nothing more than that he's get getting treatment, he'll
be good to go.

Speaker 4 (01:04:46):
I'm gonna try to script follow up on your quarterback,
Kenny the hamstring O doing a little with the hamstring?

Speaker 8 (01:04:51):
Should with it? And did you necessarily get the sign
every going to go?

Speaker 17 (01:04:54):
Called?

Speaker 23 (01:04:56):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
I didn't.

Speaker 15 (01:04:57):
That's uh, hey, every day you're you learn something new.
So all those guys that listen, they're all working hard.

Speaker 9 (01:05:05):
But it's all part of it.

Speaker 6 (01:05:07):
With the first new.

Speaker 15 (01:05:10):
Again, we'll just you guys will see how we plan
practice and uh, all these guys, which I'm appreciative of,
are are pushing to do the best that they can
and whatever it is, and I say that because we've
had a really good walkthrough in there with the guys
putting some two minute in so they handle that really well,
So I expect them, expect them to handle this as well.

Speaker 19 (01:05:31):
Watching one of the other young defile Ryan Baggers are
popping out too.

Speaker 15 (01:05:38):
Yeah, it's interesting Joe, because there's young guys but them,
there's some guys, there's veterans with some good experience that
I think are also acquitting themselves really nicely.

Speaker 8 (01:05:46):
So, Uh, it's a really good group.

Speaker 15 (01:05:48):
Coach Tarbor, as you know, does an awesome job with
those guys. Uh, they're in the nerve center of our
defense and and getting us lined up, making calls and
that type of thing.

Speaker 8 (01:05:56):
So I've been really pleased with them. You start naming them,
I'll say yes.

Speaker 22 (01:06:03):
Sorry, I don't have the depth tread from the should
just mention it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
Maybe it was a stop and start nature of practice
at the arm you've led to the sore is can
you guys do anything for that or is that just
up to him to kind of stay loose at all.

Speaker 15 (01:06:15):
Yeah, we've talked about it. He'll do a great job.
He'll stay loose. Uh, that's part of that gig. You know,
part of it for all quarterbacks is just keeping your
arm loose and he'll he'll do a good job.

Speaker 11 (01:06:26):
Is that part of adjusting to you know, from college
to pro there's something maybe that you know, the timetable
and everything for a rookie to happen.

Speaker 15 (01:06:33):
I think there's so many adjustments that these guys are
tackling every single day. And yeah, of course getting your
body ready, knowing what your body needs. You know, we
have a lot of these practices in a row, so
you have to be smart about making sure you're ready
to roll.

Speaker 14 (01:06:47):
Kevin Dylan in the hamstring, was it something where you've
heard it on a specific player just came in today?

Speaker 15 (01:06:53):
No, he reported this was on Saturday, So happened on Saturday,
and he's getting treatment on it and you'll see he'll
be out.

Speaker 9 (01:06:59):
Here just a little bit of tightness.

Speaker 19 (01:07:01):
I guess when it comes to evaluation and these joint
practices first three season games, do you feet more value
and like the joint practices and what happens in.

Speaker 8 (01:07:09):
This you know, it's a good question.

Speaker 10 (01:07:12):
Dan.

Speaker 15 (01:07:13):
I feel like there's value in everything in what we're
seeing from the guys that we value their how they
do in the meeting room, we value how they are
in the walkthrough. Like I mentioned earlier, we value all
these practice reps. Of course, when you're going up against
another team and it's a setting where maybe you don't
know exactly what the defense is gonna do or the
offense is gonna do, I think there's certainly value created

(01:07:35):
in that.

Speaker 8 (01:07:36):
And then in the preseason games, like I.

Speaker 15 (01:07:39):
Mentioned before, they're keeping score, so the competitive part of
our sport kicks in, and you want to obviously do
well in those venues as.

Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
Well, when you know you and the staff talking a
lot about the.

Speaker 14 (01:07:50):
Processes and being really happy with what you're seeing in
that regard. So like, at what point during campus is
these joint practices?

Speaker 17 (01:07:57):
Is it?

Speaker 14 (01:07:57):
You know, when the preseason's winding down, what do you
focus on resources over the process.

Speaker 15 (01:08:06):
Well, I mean, ultimately, this is a results business. That
this game is about results. We know that, But I
think you're doing yourself a disservice if you're not hyper
focused on your process as a player, as a coach,
whether you have success in a given play or not,
are you learning from that play? I mean, that's that

(01:08:27):
all speaks to the process that allows you to play
well on Sundays.

Speaker 8 (01:08:31):
I mean, that's that's the ultimate goal.

Speaker 15 (01:08:33):
But we're pretty process driven, and that another way of
saying that is we take practice very seriously. We take
the work we do in the building very seriously, and
that all adds up to putting yourself in position to
play good football.

Speaker 8 (01:08:46):
Kein Injuries are parted.

Speaker 18 (01:08:47):
It is, and I know that's another quarterback can summer
of minor week here in the air. But how much
does that hurt maybe you're processing of developing it in
the play, if at all it is.

Speaker 9 (01:08:58):
It frustrating you?

Speaker 8 (01:09:00):
No, injuries are a part of this game.

Speaker 15 (01:09:02):
They're frustrating from the standpoint of when you lose a
guy for a good amount of time, you feel that
that's tough on the players.

Speaker 8 (01:09:09):
But the dealing with injuries, adjusting his injuries, that's just.

Speaker 9 (01:09:13):
Part of the game.

Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
So why did you schedule first week joint practice this year?

Speaker 9 (01:09:17):
As close to a.

Speaker 15 (01:09:18):
Yeah, I think every year, Tony just looking at our
steal that word again, process, what we can do better,
what other teams are doing?

Speaker 21 (01:09:26):
Uh?

Speaker 15 (01:09:26):
Is there an opportunity to do something? So I can
you know, I'll talk while I'm down there. But my
relationship with coach Canalis, Well, you know, our relationship among
the staff, like the scheme that they run on both
sides of the ball will be good for our team.

Speaker 8 (01:09:42):
So there's a lot of positives to going down there.

Speaker 12 (01:09:46):
Kind duve tabling off what Dan astre in a way,
preseason it's a bold Are.

Speaker 8 (01:09:52):
The joint workouts more beneficial to together? It's where the
games are more beneficial for the rookies and what.

Speaker 9 (01:09:58):
They can do on the flying or anything.

Speaker 15 (01:10:00):
Yeah, I'd say in some ways yes, the preseason games,
you know, are are great because they're they're opportunities in
a controlled environment for your players. Now, there's some teams
that don't play their starters at all in the preseason
and that's what they think is best for their team
in that given moment. And think about you know, quarterbacks

(01:10:22):
that play in the preseason. You're you're obviously not wearing
a red jersey, so you're free game in those situations,
whereas you're not in practice and or a joint practice
with another team. So I think those are all things
that we weigh as coaches trying to figure out what
our team needs for a given season, for a given week.

Speaker 20 (01:10:38):
So when you say you will hold out some guys
for the game that needs some guys will play any
regular Yes.

Speaker 13 (01:10:46):
Coach Bloom was talking about Potonio last week, saying checks loddops.

Speaker 8 (01:10:50):
Or future Hall of Fame a game of the season.

Speaker 5 (01:10:52):
Would you say about what makes sure we're.

Speaker 8 (01:10:55):
That kind of player playing? Yeah, I think Joel's a
Hall of Famer.

Speaker 15 (01:10:59):
I've been blessed to be around the Hall of famers
uh a, and he fits the mold. He's done it
at an extremely high level for a really long time.
I think if you talk to players, I think players
are great judges of talent. I think you talk to
the players around this league, and they know what Joel's about.
Now that's the player. The person off the field is
a Hall of Fame person. And I rely heavily on

(01:11:22):
Joel uh really almost every day for his input and
his thoughts on where we are as a team, what
we need to be doing, what what you know, just
getting a feel for him and his teammates. He's an
incredible uh ambassador for his team if you will, and
uh you know, but yeah, I can't say enough good things.

Speaker 8 (01:11:39):
About Getty's great to have Joe time is something he
wanted to do.

Speaker 15 (01:11:45):
Yeah, I think Joe knows what we'll take him as
much as we can get him. And I think he
was gonna be in town, uh, working this week, so
he traded in whatever he's doing for to grab the
whistle for the for the week and see if he
can you know, any little help. Anything that Joe can
do in the meeting room's helps. I think anything Joe
does out here on the practice field helps. When you're

(01:12:05):
talking about a Hall of famer, well, Gregor bet you
today he's still working through.

Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
Yeah, but again better in Dylan is talking about the
ups and downs that or natural any training camp.

Speaker 9 (01:12:14):
And probably especially for a rookie.

Speaker 8 (01:12:16):
How have you seen him kind of handle.

Speaker 9 (01:12:18):
Those abs and shows?

Speaker 15 (01:12:19):
Yeah, I think all these rookies, like you mentioned Scott
and certainly quarterbacks, there's plays that are set up for
you and you let it rip and it's there. There's
times that things aren't there, and and I think the
big thing is learning from every single one of those reps.
Like I can think of certain reps where you gotta
move in the pocket and you gotta run out of
the pocket. You gotta go scramble and get as much

(01:12:39):
as we can get and get down.

Speaker 8 (01:12:40):
And protect yourself. That's real football.

Speaker 15 (01:12:42):
So we're trying as hard as we can to mimic
that in these settings and and know that you're gonna
have some plays that you want back, but the bottom lines.

Speaker 8 (01:12:50):
You have to learn from those plays. I think he's
doing that with tweaks to some of the other guys.

Speaker 4 (01:12:54):
Do you think you might have to play Joe placke of.

Speaker 8 (01:12:56):
The game into you.

Speaker 15 (01:12:58):
I'll wait to discuss those type of things later, Mary Kay,
but yeah, Joe's ready to go for Neo.
