Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome to this week five Wednesday edition of the From
the Podium podcast. I'm Gabe Klea. The Browns will head
to London this evening to get acclimated to the area
as they prepare to play the Minnesota Vikings from Tottenham
Hotspur Stadium this coming Sunday. On today's episode, you'll hear
from head coach Kevin Stefanski, quarterback Joe Flacco, quarterback Dylan Gabriel,
(00:25):
wide receiver Jerry Judy, and cornerback Denzel Ward. We'll start
with head coach Kevin Stefanski officially announced a quarterback change
for Sunday's game in London.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Okay, you're gonna start Dylan Gabriel at quarterback, as I
know you guys saw you know. First of all, this
is not about one person. Joe is a captain this
football team. We're gonna need his leadership moving forward like
always and that's obvious with Joe, just the person he is.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
He's gonna be the same guy every day. Excited for Dylan.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
He's done everything, He's handled everything really well since he's
been on campus here. So we're just gonna have to
support the young man. Coaches, players, offense, defense, special team.
So looking forward to the opportunity this week. Great challenge obviously,
going overseas to play a really good football team, a
(01:17):
team that I have a lot of respect for from
Kevin O'Connell, his staff and some great, great players. So
it's gonna be a challenge. But with that, I'll take
any questions.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
One person, then why make why make this decision?
Speaker 5 (01:29):
And why make it that?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
I think the big thing for me is we need
to all be better, Daniel. We need to coach better,
we need to block better, catch better, run better, all
the above. We need to be better. And I know
the quarterback position gets quite a bit of scrutiny. I
understand that, but this is a This is about our
entire team playing better.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Yes, the turnovers, the eight turnovers or whatever, it's three,
these first sporting.
Speaker 7 (01:58):
Moves, player factor.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Obviously, Actually we need to be better taking care of
the football. We are minus six in the NFL, We're
thirty second in turn of a margin, and that's very
difficult to overcome.
Speaker 8 (02:11):
Just the change to Dylan can provide us part for
an offense and struggle.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Well again, we just I think across the board we
have to be better and that's the we in this thing.
So obviously expect Dylan to play well, but we have
to be good around him.
Speaker 7 (02:29):
Ability to move. Do you think that can create some
things in the bostom?
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Again, I think the focus is on doing all those
things Scott that allow you to be sound on offense.
Speaker 9 (02:42):
Has showing behind the scenes, and may you believe he's
ready to go?
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:46):
I mean obviously from the second he's been here, he's
been working very hard, very intelligent young man. He's done
a nice job throughout practice. Uh, and you know he's
been this whole season. He's in learning how to get
yourself ready and and uh understand the rhythm of an
NFL week and what that looks like as a backup,
(03:07):
and obviously now feel like he's ready to go in
as a starter.
Speaker 9 (03:12):
Do you simplify things for him this week or change
anything off?
Speaker 3 (03:17):
I think.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
With any quarterback, you're going to play to their strengths.
So regardless of who that guy is, veteran, rookie, you
name it, you gotta play to their strengths. I'm sorry, why, Yeah,
just my decision where I felt this decision was was
best for the football team.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Yes, why you decide to make Joe the back up
and not sure or yeah, Joe's the backup, don't take.
Speaker 7 (03:46):
Any reps with the ones in the first m I
was looking those in practice.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah again, young players, you're constantly getting better, whether you're
getting reps or not getting He has gotten some reps
with the Ones, but of course today, tomorrow, Friday.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Will be the most extended time with the Ones.
Speaker 6 (04:08):
Go back to the behind the scenes stuff and maybe
what's shown you guys. I know sometimes when you get
rookie quarterbacks and they're a backup for a handful of games,
you see things start to really click for them. I
guess have you guys seen that with him, because he's
taken a jump even just from that.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
I would think all of our guys Ashley, with.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Practice and meetings and just being more comfortable with the
game and understanding opponents, which I think is another big
part of this, because the opponents week to week are
so different. I think all those guys stack these weeks
and get better with each week.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
The importance of every rep.
Speaker 10 (04:41):
When he was doing stuff in training camp and moving
into now, so how have you seen him maybe embrace
the side work that he's gotten to build this foundation
for this opportunity.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
I think you just have to do everything in your
power Cam to get ready when for when your number
is called. Certainly at the quarterback position, it's different than
wide receiver where there's just one guy out there, so
there's one rep to go around and you have to
do everything in your power. But it's no different than
a left tackle making his first start, or a defensive
tackle making his first start, or a safety or what
(05:15):
have you. It's you know, it's gonna be the first
time for for Dylan on Sunday, but you try to
build off all your experiences.
Speaker 7 (05:22):
A situation as.
Speaker 11 (05:26):
Bobinson manipate him sliding it right away, and just what
do you do with both of those spots this week?
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yeah, we'll work through that this week obviously, just getting
Cam here, trying to get him up to speed and see,
you know, see where it goes from there.
Speaker 7 (05:40):
It's a conversation with Joe and how did he take it?
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yeah, I'll keep it between Scott. I would tell you
and you guys know this. Uh, Joe was an elected
captain of this football team for a reason. We believe
in his leadership, he's gonna be the same exact guy
he always is, which I really appreciate.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
Okay, challenger, does it make it you know, going into
whether we're doing and preparing you're ready for the game.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
For our football team, it's we really don't focus on
anything other than the work we have to get in.
So it's today is a really important day. We'll have
meetings and a jog through tomorrow that will be important. So, uh,
it's really just focusing on what's in front of you
and getting ready to.
Speaker 8 (06:22):
Go about the challenges For Brian Floy's defense, he confuses quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yeah, Coach Flow does a great job.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
I mean, it's a it's a very very good scheme
with very good players from front to back. They they
do a lot. You know, I think that what they're
doing is simple to them and should be. And they
wanted to look hard to the offense and they have
a lot of versatility along their front, a lot of
versatility in the back end where they can line people
up in different spots. So really important as an offense
(06:51):
that you stay true to rules, understand on a give
and play with the intent of that play.
Speaker 9 (06:56):
Is practice today?
Speaker 2 (07:02):
That was that anything to be concerned about, Well, he's
not practicing to day. I'd call him day to.
Speaker 12 (07:06):
Day your team games. From this experience of you know,
getting to go to a different country and play a football.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Game, obviously it's a privilege to be able to go
over there and play this this game. Now, that's what's
most important to us, is is doing all the things, uh,
both here and there to get us ready for Sunday.
But it's a great experience for our fans, but really
it's it's a business trip for us.
Speaker 12 (07:33):
You said Joe was obviously rebuct to, but was there
along with changing to Cantilling, was there any conversation at
all about when you should or up to number two
and making.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Yeah, my focus is on this game. Joe's backup.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
In the game.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Yes, bless you.
Speaker 8 (07:48):
Guys made some receiver emotions yesterday. What have you seen
out of Malachi since he's been there?
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Has done a really nice job.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
As you know, Scott, we do a lot of work
with our young players after practice, Mondays, Saturdays when when
they're not playing games, so get to see these guys work.
He's done a nice job with everything we've asked him
to do. Intelligent kid, so excited for him. Good Okay,
thanks guys, last one.
Speaker 6 (08:16):
Good any what's the situation We've done, Jack Conroy.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Similar day to day. We'll see how it goes.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
First player up is Joe Flacco, who discussed how he
reacted to the news this morning.
Speaker 7 (08:27):
Could you talk.
Speaker 8 (08:28):
Sunday about how you know this is part of it,
but now that it's kind of reality, how toughnes seem
to do with.
Speaker 13 (08:35):
I think the tougher thing is just going through what
we've gone through the last four weeks and just not
being able to produce the way we've wanted to. You know,
that's the when when you're in the moment and you're
having conversations with people, it is what it is. You
look people in the eye and you tell them how
it is, and that's what it is.
Speaker 9 (08:52):
Joe, what was your conversation like with Kevin and did
you kind of foresee this coming or I.
Speaker 13 (08:58):
Don't think I foresaw it. Listen, I I think I
said it on Sunday. Anytime you're in this league, I mean,
everybody's always getting evaluated, and you know the job of
a quarterback is to help your team win football games.
So I don't know if I foresaw it coming. But listen,
me and Kevin can have a good conversation wasn't like
it was anything super long or or drawn out like that,
but got to the point and had a good conversation
(09:21):
with him about it and it is what it is.
Speaker 12 (09:23):
Had I said, Uh, just.
Speaker 6 (09:25):
How important your leadership is as part as his team
or of your role is just how how do you
sort of transition and what's that role kind.
Speaker 7 (09:32):
Of look like for you us your team?
Speaker 13 (09:34):
I think just be myself obviously that it can be tricky. Uh,
I don't I don't think you can put too much
thought into it.
Speaker 14 (09:42):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (09:42):
It like I said, it's just being yourself coming to
work every day, uh, given that you're all and and
you know, keeping that same routine that you have even
if y, you know, when you were the guy. Just
still being able to show everybody that you can come
to work and and still get it all done, even
though it's not necessarily the same situation.
Speaker 6 (10:01):
So just the turnover aspect for you and you guys
as an offense, Like, how how prust rating was that
to not really get a handle on it over these
first four games?
Speaker 14 (10:10):
Yeah, it was tough.
Speaker 13 (10:11):
I mean, obviously I think there's some of those that
you know, it's like, what are you gonna do, and
then there's some that you look at and you really
want back.
Speaker 15 (10:19):
But that's that's how that's how it goes.
Speaker 13 (10:21):
They all count the same, and you know, when you
look back on it, it's definitely a part of uh,
why we weren't, why we weren't able to be what
we wanted to be.
Speaker 8 (10:29):
Well, Kevin keeps saying that it's not just you, it's
not just one person, that's whole team.
Speaker 7 (10:34):
Obvious you didn't get a lot of help.
Speaker 8 (10:36):
So does that make it more difficult that this move
was made when it's not just you.
Speaker 15 (10:40):
No, as I don't look at it that way.
Speaker 13 (10:43):
You know, I think anytime you're the guy and you
want to be out there competing, it's difficult. But I
don't think you're necessarily looking at it from that perspective. Uh, yeah,
we didn't. We weren't as good as we wanted to be.
And you're more so just looking at your role.
Speaker 5 (10:59):
And then.
Speaker 16 (11:03):
You had some great memories here a couple of years ago.
Obviously the fans seem to take a real liking to
you during that time. How with it all do you
think the relationship has has changed.
Speaker 13 (11:15):
It's not for me to worry about you know, for me,
I mean I I've said it before. It's it's different times,
it's different years. I mean it for me, it doesn't change,
you know, the experience that I've had here and you
know we'll continue to have here. It it's part of
the game. It's tough to it's tough to deal with
(11:38):
not getting it done. That's the bigger thing. Uh, you know,
I just just because you still try to look at
the good experiences here and listen, we got a long
season left, so I'm still you know, keep my head
up and still trying to live that out.
Speaker 9 (11:54):
Why why do you think it's been so difficult offense?
Why do you think it's been so difficult to get
it going in this recas point?
Speaker 13 (12:00):
Well, it's tough for me to get into all those
details right now and actually spread.
Speaker 15 (12:04):
It out all this.
Speaker 13 (12:04):
I mean, I I really don't wanna get into it.
I mean, you know, we've we've just struggled to kind
of become who we wanted to and that's it.
Speaker 14 (12:13):
Yeah, what do you think attributed most to think?
Speaker 7 (12:16):
So h you'd have to ask keV.
Speaker 13 (12:18):
I mean we're one and three, So.
Speaker 16 (12:22):
What's your gonta look for for Dylan going forward? What
can you do to help him?
Speaker 13 (12:25):
Yeah, like I said, for me, is just you know,
I think the best way to help is just continue
to come to work, you know, with a good mindset
every day and and provide that positive energy and you know,
see what he needs on his end.
Speaker 8 (12:37):
What is he showing your Joe behind the scenes or
even when he's getting a little bit in those first deption.
Speaker 13 (12:42):
Practice Listen, he's into it, man, He's ready to go.
I'm sure he's super excited about this opportunity.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Y y.
Speaker 13 (12:48):
You can tell he takes it seriously just by the
way he studies and and you know his intent in
the meeting rooms and on the practice field.
Speaker 9 (12:54):
So, Joe, I I think you've been through situations like
this before, and I'm I'm sure never get easy, But
can you pull on some of those past experiences to
kind of help you approach this one.
Speaker 13 (13:07):
I think every situation is unique, So it's it, it's
probably and and I think you do get emotional about it,
so it's tough to end the moment drawing those experiences.
So you just kind of go back to just being
yourself and relying on the people around you to help
you cope with it a little bit.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Up next, it's rookie quarterback Dylan Gabriel, who gave his
thoughts ahead of his first career NFL starting.
Speaker 11 (13:34):
First off, Congratulations, what is your feeling to be a
nameless starter and just help.
Speaker 7 (13:39):
Prepare you for this moment?
Speaker 14 (13:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 17 (13:42):
I think you know, from the beginning of the moment
you look forward to as a competitor.
Speaker 14 (13:46):
But you know it's part of my job, you know.
Speaker 17 (13:48):
To be ready to be that, you know, sense of
hope for everyone to continue to be better and come
together and create momentum for each other. So excited for that,
but just also extremely focused at doing my job at
a high level.
Speaker 6 (14:02):
How do you think you've managed to stay ready over
these first four.
Speaker 7 (14:05):
Weeks of the regular season.
Speaker 17 (14:07):
Yeah, a lot of walk throughs, a lot of meetings.
You you gotta be really tuned into. And then you know,
I think just you look at all the work from
the beginning of OTAs and rookie Mini Caampton, Now I
think that's all installation that you can really pride yourself
on and the reps built up so moments, you know,
that build up and then to to get here. But
you know, like I said, it's extreme focused on just
(14:29):
doing my job at a high level and uh continue
to do that for one another.
Speaker 18 (14:33):
He had mentioned that you uh Ken mentioned that you
would received some some reps from the starters during you know,
the first month of the regular season. Just could you
kind of put like a percentage like every day how
ny how many plays it was, and how you think
that's prepared you even though you're gonna get a full
state of practice shops this week.
Speaker 17 (14:46):
You know, I think as much as we could, you know,
I think reps here and there throughout practices, but also
respecting you know, uh Flacco getting his reps throughout those weeks.
So I think we tried to fit in as much
as possible. But you know, I think we also did
a good job in training camp. So like I said,
you gotta build those moments up to to get to
this moment, and I think a great reekal prep we'll
(15:07):
we'll set us up for successful.
Speaker 16 (15:09):
Kevin talked about Joe's leadership still being so important to
this team, just.
Speaker 7 (15:14):
Like be coming back up.
Speaker 9 (15:15):
Just curious from from your advantage point.
Speaker 19 (15:18):
From the day you got here to these first four weeks,
how has he been able to already just.
Speaker 7 (15:23):
Sort of support you to get to this point.
Speaker 17 (15:25):
Yeah, what I appreciate about Joe is just it's not
his job to be a mentor, you know, it's his
job to be a great quarterback. And I I think
just his openness to answer questions. You know, it's my
job to ask questions, right and and uh search for
those answers. But having guys like you know him, Deshaun
Uh in the room, I think au guys that just
have played a bunch of ball. So I appreciate him
(15:46):
for that. And you know, he's a captain on this team.
He's still a huge piece of what we do. And
we looked to him for for a lot of things
because he's been through it the bunch. So I think, Uh,
there's a ton of respect there for me and and
a guy definitely look up to. And you know, it's
gonna be important to have that, you know, going into
this week, when Kevin.
Speaker 8 (16:04):
Said that, keeps kept stressing that it's not just one person, right,
it's responsible for the offensive struggle. So when you get
in there as a starter, how do you go about
trying to get everybody to play at a higher level.
Speaker 17 (16:15):
Yeah, I think initially it's it's great juice and great energy,
and and that starts on Monday, Uh, you know, the
beginning of the prep week. That starts with just having
great meetings, having great practices. So we're taking small sample
sizes and bites at the you know, the whole thing
and making sure that we just focus on what we
got in front of us. And I I think if
we have a great week of prep and we continue
(16:35):
to put that at the forefront, you know, I think
we'll continue to have that.
Speaker 14 (16:39):
But like I said, it's.
Speaker 17 (16:40):
Not just one person, it's all of us coming together, uh,
creating momentum together. Uh, so we can go you know,
move the sticks and put points on the board.
Speaker 9 (16:47):
Dylanne, I know you're you're obviously, whenever we talk to you,
yourself process driven, aside from just obviously getting those first
team reps this week and then most of the reps
in practice. Does anything change for you this week?
Speaker 17 (16:58):
You know you'd like to say no, but there's uh
a lot of excitement. But with that excitement, for me,
it's just extreme focus, you know, And uh, I've been
through weeks of prep.
Speaker 14 (17:07):
And a bunch of them.
Speaker 17 (17:08):
You know, if you go back, but you just continue
attacking with your process and how you wanna uh accomplish that.
But I think it's us coming together. Like I said,
not to be you know, cliche or keep saying the
same thing, but you know, we we have to come
together and create momentum for each other so that uh
we can create positive plays, put points on the board
and just take it one play at a time.
Speaker 7 (17:29):
What did you impart any you know, work of encouragement
after the announcements came out.
Speaker 17 (17:35):
You know, I think just for us, it's constant communication.
You know, like he's he's a guy that you know,
you see in every single day. You know, we're in
the same position group and a guy that you appreciate
uh a hundred percent of the time because he's just
himself and he's he's very even keilled.
Speaker 14 (17:51):
So there's a lot I've learned from him and will
continue to learn from him.
Speaker 17 (17:54):
But you know, I I I know he knows, you know,
he still has a huge partner what we're doing. And
you know he's a captain of the team as well.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
What would coach tell you that you know you were
gonna get them start?
Speaker 14 (18:06):
Uh?
Speaker 17 (18:07):
You know, we all sat down and said in a
keep your room and as simple as that still it
was pretty.
Speaker 11 (18:14):
Clear that you know, at some point the organization wanted
you to start.
Speaker 14 (18:18):
Uh a game this season.
Speaker 11 (18:19):
Obviously maybe a little earlier than you were the organization
might have planned. But was that something that was always
in the back of your head, even though as you
you know, you talk about making sure that you were
ready at any given time.
Speaker 17 (18:31):
You know, I I think it's funny because, you know,
I got a text from a a good buddy of mine,
and he sent me a picture of a fire station,
you know, and like it's kind of like why are
you sending that? You know, But when he sends it,
you know, he just lists the the obvious, right, like
doors are open, garage doors are open, like things are
(18:51):
ready to go, and like they're just waiting on that
phone call to like respond surgically and like just what
a great representation of like the job I had and
and being ready for that moment. And I think, you know,
I smile cause it's like, uh, a moment you prep
for and you you are ex extremely excited for, but
also got to realize that it's extreme focus and and
(19:13):
that's what I've continued to to harp on. But you
wait for the perfect time, you know you're gonna wait
a whole lifetime. So for me, I'm just I've always
been ready for every moment, the one.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
Just going back to these first four weeks, and and
like the prep of it all, you know, sometimes repeating us.
They they step into that back up role, it's it
becomes kind of this big learning experience that that maybe
you wouldn't have expected a Misshay, I guess was was
that the case for you?
Speaker 9 (19:36):
How has that been for.
Speaker 7 (19:37):
You in terms of taking on what you did as
a back up those first row weeks.
Speaker 17 (19:40):
I think the biggest thing is change the perspective, you know.
I think you know, when you're behind center, it's kind
of you know, attacking the day of what's what you
need to do, and and sometimes you let things slip
through the cracks for what's most important and order of
operations that way. But I think when you change the perspective,
you can kind of look at it, look at you know,
the whole preparation as a whole, and and how you
(20:01):
can get better, how you can best support your teammates
and and maybe when you're not the starter in a
different status, can you still lead and and create momentum
for one another. So that that was a big challenge
for me one I took on uh wholeheartedly, and I
you know, we'll continue to take on Echevereron just.
Speaker 8 (20:19):
Saw just Brian Powers. You know, he's got a great
reputation and confusing all kinds of quarterbacks. So what do
you see and how different comes to that for your
first stific start?
Speaker 17 (20:28):
Yeah, a lot of respect for what he's done, but uh,
even you know this year, I think he's just you know,
uh unique defensive mind and has created you know, a
lot of turnovers, a lot of negative plays, uh confusion
like you said, but uh, you know, I think it's
just gonna be a great challenge for us all, you know,
coming together and you know, we got a lot of
respect you know, and how we attacked our our craft
(20:49):
with diligence, you know, and and wanna make sure that
we're ready for that moment. But like I said, a
lot of respect for our competition.
Speaker 11 (20:55):
What challenge you the press timeline?
Speaker 7 (20:57):
This week? You gotta go to London.
Speaker 11 (20:59):
You know we're probably little for to practice today. You're
not gonna do maybe a normal practice on Thursday. Same thing, right,
Just what type of challenge does that present for you
and in how do you uh.
Speaker 7 (21:09):
You don't handle that?
Speaker 14 (21:10):
Yeah, it'll be different, but one we're looking forward to.
Speaker 17 (21:12):
You know, there's there's challenges week to week in any
given week, but one that's just unique.
Speaker 14 (21:17):
Right.
Speaker 17 (21:18):
But I think, like like I was saying earlier, the
excitement for you know, being able to play in London, Uh,
you know, new fans, new environment. I think that'll be
a lot of fun. But uh also just you know,
I think they've educated us a bunch on on how
we need to attack this and you know we'll we'll
continue to do so.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
Dylan Non always talks about your processing, but but your
mobility specifically everyan what do you think you can add
to this offense?
Speaker 15 (21:42):
And you guys are struggling with that as.
Speaker 17 (21:44):
Yeah, I I think it's a a combination, you know,
and being able to add live you know, confidence as
using your legs as a weapon. Uh, it is real,
you know, in this day and age. But I think
it's a u a great combination of a lot of things.
You know, you you wanna use it when you need to,
when you just feel like doing it. So I think
(22:04):
moving when necessary is important and you know, have confidence
in that, but also throwing and and make sure we're
running ops you know, the offense by the right way.
Speaker 15 (22:13):
We'll say more.
Speaker 8 (22:15):
You stepped in late in the fourth quarter in week
two and four, and I know, like, what, how could
those experiences they're just being able to take the field
in a game study like that help you?
Speaker 7 (22:24):
Are you into this week?
Speaker 14 (22:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 17 (22:26):
More turns at it, as coach must would say, you know,
the more turns you got, h the more confident and
comfortable you are in certain situations. So super glad I
was able to get those those terms, and UH wanna
continue to build on that and and we will you know,
throughout this process. But like I said, a whole week
of prep going into a game knowing the job cold
(22:47):
is is you know my job, and I'll continue to
do that and excited for it.
Speaker 16 (22:52):
From your vantage point, you have to practice now filming
in those limited settings. What's the biggest difference you've noticed
between pro defenses in it in.
Speaker 17 (23:00):
College defenses, Definitely personnel, you know, I I think one
through eleven, uh obviously, but uh, I think you know
there's also confidence in you know, their past rushers, and
I I think you see that every single week and
you know, your ability to protect your ability to you know,
make them be on their toes uh consistently could help you. Ye,
(23:21):
And you just wanna continue to to do that, but
that's definitely a challenge, Tyling.
Speaker 9 (23:25):
Dylan, Jerry was Jerry was obviously a little frustrated after
that game one on Sunday with someone who's drubs ho
Helmfordan is it, you know, for you and him to
get on that same page quickly and for him to
really kind.
Speaker 14 (23:34):
Of get you for this offense?
Speaker 17 (23:35):
Glad you asked? You know, I I l I'm the
biggest fan of Jerry, you know, I I I would
be surprised to find anyone that thinks more highly of
him than me, you know, just the way he works,
the way he attacks his day to day, but how
much he loves the game as well. You know, he
shows his passion and he's a guy that we're gonna
rely on. I'll continue to rely on and uh a
guy will feed because.
Speaker 14 (23:57):
You know, he's a big part of what we do.
Speaker 7 (23:58):
So yeahs.
Speaker 17 (24:00):
So you know, I think as you continue to build it,
you know, it'll be you know, building reps together in continuity.
But I think that that'll grow as as time progresses.
Speaker 8 (24:09):
You feel like the rest of the room's kind of
been a little bit of flux, which instead going on
to our DeAndre and I are and then you call up.
Speaker 7 (24:15):
A couple guys just go.
Speaker 17 (24:17):
You know, I think it's it's having that mentality of
next guy out and everyone being prepared for their moment,
and you know, uniquely enough, you know I'm doing the
same as them, so I think we're both in that
same position. But you know, I keep going back to
us coming together and making sure that we continue to
do that will be our biggest, our biggest you know
point emphasis, because we need we need to do that.
(24:39):
And the more we create positive plays and let that
continue stack on each other, then you know good things
will happen, but small bites at the time.
Speaker 14 (24:46):
You've been to one before, haven't haven't been on the
country so wide.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Receiver Jerry Judy discussed the opportunities that quarterback Dylan Gabriel
can create for the offense.
Speaker 6 (24:55):
Jerry, just to start out, your reaction to to the
keb change.
Speaker 15 (24:58):
Is still in starting now like her.
Speaker 20 (25:00):
Okay, when you have that fast you know the coaches
came with that decision, you know, and I'm just here
to do my part help whatever quarterback that's out there.
Speaker 15 (25:09):
Or how much more important is it, uh for you to.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
Maybe step up with you know, set being out and
you know the.
Speaker 9 (25:15):
Change change the maid receiver out.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
Report uh points if you get on.
Speaker 20 (25:18):
That that change, you know it, you know it's very important.
It's you know, it's then the first start, you know.
So I'm trying to be the best version of myself
for him, so he could you know, do what he
needed to do on the field. You know. But those
guys getting hurt, you know, I gotta step up, and
the younger guys gotta that's behind him gotta.
Speaker 5 (25:33):
Step up as well. And do they w part and
do play they role?
Speaker 4 (25:35):
When you have a game like you had, you know,
last Sunday, and then you drop some paths that you
know that you can make, do you like, do dwell
on it for a little bit?
Speaker 7 (25:42):
Do you try to get at you talking.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
About jog machine?
Speaker 9 (25:44):
You just try to run it behind you.
Speaker 20 (25:45):
On this se and on Nah, I dwell on it
in on that day. Other than that, I just move on,
move forward. You know, it's football is part of the game.
Speaker 14 (25:51):
You know.
Speaker 20 (25:52):
That was my first job, you know, And that's not
gonna be my last, you know, if be being honest.
So you know I don't really play too much time
on it. M you know, I do what I need
to do the the to fix it and then move
off from now.
Speaker 14 (26:02):
Yeah you do? Uh?
Speaker 9 (26:03):
Jerry and Dylon said, did you want hunger? You're Jerry
Juny fans in him. I guess just you know with
some of those nights you been able to work in the.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
Messicosis the last of the weeks, but you get back
at during the camp just to what type of chemistry
you already kind of debuilding.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Uh, Dylan Hill, h He'll a smart dude.
Speaker 20 (26:18):
You know he know where where to go with the
balla so you know where the coaching staff want once
within the offense.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
You know he does does a great job of that.
Speaker 8 (26:26):
Did Jered on that interception on Sunday? Did you think
you got interfered with the concert?
Speaker 14 (26:31):
Yes? I did.
Speaker 7 (26:32):
Did you get any kind of explanation far to the
different with NDS?
Speaker 20 (26:35):
But when he said yeah, he said, uh, I forgot
what he said. Honestly, he said, son abot hole in hims,
I I forgot what he said.
Speaker 8 (26:44):
Wasn't a satisfactory answer, though, uh huh. He wasn't a
satisfactory answered.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
Yeah it was. It wasn't no class, but it word
of it didn't matter.
Speaker 9 (26:51):
Oh sure, is there is maybe a little bit of
your do Is there a little bit of an adjusting? Yeah,
with uh football coming out of loft these stands, and
that's spending you have to be piece to that.
Speaker 20 (27:02):
Nah nah, not really, Yeah, it just it just spends
the opposite way.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
Other than that, it's same thing, exerius. You don't forget.
I'll play with uh lefty for like four years and
you know school.
Speaker 8 (27:13):
Really it's a hope that keeps saying that it's not
just one guy, right, it's not just Joe's fault of
the opensive struggle.
Speaker 7 (27:19):
Yeah, but it's a hope.
Speaker 8 (27:20):
That if you put a new guy under center, that
that just can create a spark for the rest of
the guy.
Speaker 20 (27:24):
Yeah, I'm thinking I'm pretty sure that's what everybody looking for,
is that spark? You know, like I say, you know,
it's it's all eleven guys on that field. You know,
all eleven guys got to do the job just for
that play to be successful.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
So if one god mess up, you know, the whole
play is frul so you know a law to everybody,
do they job?
Speaker 14 (27:41):
You know, hes he could give both places.
Speaker 8 (27:43):
Do you feel bad and off of the job that
he's kind of a guy that takes the brand of
this word.
Speaker 7 (27:48):
He's the guy that lose his job even though it
is all these loves.
Speaker 20 (27:52):
Uh yeah, you know, you know it's I guess this
is it? How uh the lead words?
Speaker 5 (27:57):
You feel me if you need to spark, you feel like,
uh a quarterback change should help that.
Speaker 20 (28:01):
So you know whatever the coaches is that what the
coaches thought that would help us.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
You know, we gonna go with that, really, Jerry with Dylan, you.
Speaker 6 (28:08):
Know, everyone always talks about this processing speed and and
how good he is with that part of the game.
When how have you guys seen that as pass cutch
or so when you got to do one with him,
some of the decision making.
Speaker 20 (28:18):
You give into Yeah, just just through out OTAs and
camp and even practice just knowing like I said, just
knowing where to go go on the balls right all
the time. And that's that do with knowing the coverage,
just you know, and understanding what the defense is trying
to take away and just taking advantage of that. And
he does a great job of processing that, understanding that
and you know that why you doing his thing?
Speaker 7 (28:37):
Jerry? What type of challenges in this week?
Speaker 9 (28:38):
You gotta go to one?
Speaker 11 (28:39):
The quarterback change schedule is in as expansive as it
maybe is in a normal week.
Speaker 14 (28:45):
Just you know what what challenges have?
Speaker 11 (28:47):
Is that to you guys just trying to get ready to.
Speaker 7 (28:49):
Quit this game?
Speaker 20 (28:51):
You know you just y I I I don't ready
take it as a challenge. You know it It's just
part of the game. You gonna have to travel, you know,
it's not really too much challenge. Of course, you're going
across the country, so you know, just make make sure
you get your sleep in.
Speaker 5 (29:04):
You know, that's the most important thing.
Speaker 20 (29:05):
And that's okay, And you know, once you land, it's
it's goodly, it's it's up.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
Prizily, do you.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
Still feel like even though you guys are wanna to
create that everything is still wide open for you, that
there's enough potential ere that I you fur this around?
Speaker 20 (29:18):
Yeah, yeah, right quickly, yeah, of course we you know,
we got we got a lot more games left, you know,
yet that night, you know, uh, starting one to three,
you know, it's a what there's like what ten teen twelteen,
that's like one to three, you know, so it it
it's you know, it's not really about how you start,
it's about how you finish, you know, and we we
were working towards the finishing our best and you know
winning are all these rest of these games it seems like.
Speaker 9 (29:41):
It's been you know, all little thing that those all
bass you just that play Sunday you.
Speaker 7 (29:44):
And means like you had to talk a little way
to touchdown like that.
Speaker 9 (29:47):
So how close do you think the sell Huns really is.
Speaker 7 (29:49):
To to be on?
Speaker 5 (29:51):
We getting close each week, you know.
Speaker 20 (29:53):
I feel like guys are striving to be the to
be the best version of theyself, you know, and I
think we getting close close with that.
Speaker 7 (30:02):
What what makes O'Brian Ford's defense so difficol.
Speaker 5 (30:06):
Just the disguise.
Speaker 20 (30:07):
You know, they do a great job of disguising okay,
not giving any tails on what type of defense they running,
you know, so they do a good.
Speaker 5 (30:14):
Job with that.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Finally, cornerback Denzel war discussed the potential matchup with Justin
Jefferson obviously.
Speaker 8 (30:20):
The other side of the bit. But it's a big movie.
So what's your reaction is that quarterback change?
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Uh?
Speaker 19 (30:25):
We go rally behind who's who's ever behind there? So uh, Dylan,
he's getting the opportunity so rally getting behind him, and
focus is still on trying to get a win, get that,
get that win.
Speaker 15 (30:36):
So uh that's the goal.
Speaker 9 (30:38):
How how have you seen, you know, just dealing behind
the scenes when you've gotten a chance to watch practice
tape or whatever, have you seen dying kind of handled
these last few weeks and not getting this out?
Speaker 19 (30:50):
Yeah, he's been looking good ever since he got here.
I mean you got seen the preseason. Uh he's walking,
walking the offense down the field, Uh, making any good
throws and playing well. So looking forward to seeing him
out there come game to day.
Speaker 16 (31:04):
Sometimes there's a sentiment where you inserted rupy quarterback too soon.
It can it can come off like waving the life
lives say why don't you guys see it?
Speaker 14 (31:12):
Though?
Speaker 19 (31:12):
No, I mean, we we got guys that that are
capable of playing uh that quarterback position.
Speaker 14 (31:16):
You know, Uh, just.
Speaker 19 (31:17):
Cause they not weren't the starter at the time doesn't
mean you know, this is a NFL. You know guys
are gonna get rotated in and you know that's just
the key position, that quarterback spot. But uh, you know,
he con could come in there and still do well
for us and uh get us to where we need
to go.
Speaker 6 (31:33):
Sons out, nothing to talk about how it's not about
one person. Obviously there's multiple things that need to get
picked up, and that Joe leadership.
Speaker 9 (31:40):
Is still gonna be important.
Speaker 6 (31:41):
I guess how how much is that the case with
this team especially?
Speaker 15 (31:48):
Yeah, No, we still love Joe.
Speaker 19 (31:49):
He's still a leader for us, you know, so it's
still our quarterback and I we said, we're rallying behind everybody.
You know, the goal is to to get a win
and that's to go. So whoever's in there, you know,
whether I'm outing a God steps in for me, you know,
it's it's the same thing. Doesn't nothing change, and uh
the standards still says the same. We gotta uh work
to get a win and uh try to be the best.
Speaker 8 (32:10):
And what's uh the match up like with Justin Jefferson.
I know you've practice against it, right, Just what do
you think that's he.
Speaker 19 (32:16):
Gonna be Like, Yeah, it's gonna be a great matchup.
He's a good receiver, uh in this league. But yeah,
we focused on going to get the win. So regardless
who's on the other side. You know, you gotta try
to eliminate them the best as we can and uh
get our job done.
Speaker 7 (32:31):
Some special.
Speaker 19 (32:33):
Playmaker, he's a playmaker, runs uh really good routes, got
good hands, just a really good receiver, just a uh
top natural receiver in this league.
Speaker 9 (32:44):
It was it ever frustrating as the defense when you
when you guys are getting suns and the offensive struggling
on the other side.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
Against How do you do that?
Speaker 19 (32:53):
Yeah, I mean that that's we gotta play complimentary football.
You know, you can't get into that. Uh let that
sink into your head. Oh man, this is straight in
or this is this is bad team people are doing bad.
But uh y, it's kind You gotta play complimentary football,
you know, and were trying to do the best we
can to to put our offense and special teams in
the best position and put the team in the best position.
(33:13):
So regardless of what happens out there, you know, we
trying to give our best effort and uh do what
we can to help his team out.
Speaker 8 (33:19):
It sounds like so personally, what have you seen out
of him in the last couple of years played in
this league?
Speaker 15 (33:25):
Yeah, yeah, that's it right there.
Speaker 19 (33:27):
He's an experienced quarterback, a guy that's played in this league.
Uh we've seen him a few times before, so uh
pretty familiar with him as a type of uh player
he is, and uh just gotta keep watching some more
film on him and see what he likes to do
and uh try to eliminate it.
Speaker 7 (33:40):
What is Addison coming back due to that offense?
Speaker 15 (33:43):
Uh?
Speaker 19 (33:43):
Just another playmaker for those guys. You know, he was
the starter before, So just a play maker for those
guys able to uh run her routes as well and
catch the ball.
Speaker 15 (33:52):
So uh we'll be a good matchup as well out there.
Speaker 12 (33:54):
I'm gonna take away in Detroit? What kind of the
ball got?
Speaker 9 (33:57):
You know, kind of launted it up.
Speaker 12 (33:58):
But what did you see from Jerry and the line
to off and sidelogy? That doesn't make the plan there?
Speaker 19 (34:04):
Yeah, Uh it was really just trying to disguise. I
think he believed that I was uh in man coverage
and was able to get out of there, and uh
we had a good rush.
Speaker 15 (34:13):
Uh coach got us in a great call.
Speaker 19 (34:15):
And was able to get in a good spot to
get my hands on the ball and uh get take
away for the team.
Speaker 12 (34:20):
And then obviously Pittsburgh was able to get after Carson
last week two takeaways.
Speaker 9 (34:24):
Graduator chapions rather.
Speaker 12 (34:26):
Uh you know, what have you seen from that game
from from Carson that you know, uh makes you believe
that y'all are coulda been able to do the same thing.
Speaker 19 (34:34):
Yeah, I mean it, it's not really about them, Like
I said, it's really the focus is on us, and
uh we just trying to go in and.
Speaker 15 (34:39):
Do our job and execute.
Speaker 19 (34:41):
And a goal every week is to try to get
takeaways and uh see where we can exploit that on
against the offense. And so we just got to go
and do our job and take Like I said, the
takeaways are gonna come, and uh hopefully I think they're
gon keep rolling in.
Speaker 9 (34:54):
There were a couple of.
Speaker 7 (34:55):
Us of coverage es on some of all that to got.
Speaker 12 (34:57):
Big receptions or got touchdowns.
Speaker 9 (34:58):
What do you think it was? There were those that
you can do with them that sure you prevent its
gonna Sunday.
Speaker 15 (35:03):
W WHI which ones did you say? We're busted?
Speaker 9 (35:07):
Uh play the shoulder down the same drop lead on you?
Speaker 5 (35:13):
You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 19 (35:14):
Yeah, yeah, I I don't think that's correct, but uh yeah,
we just gotta do our assignment. Uh when it comes though,
say it again. Yeah I just said it wasn't correct.
So yeah, I'm not gonna run through the whole the
whole play. But you know, we just gotta do our
do our job, do our assignment. Everybody get on the
same page, and you know, we take care of so
(35:35):
you know, it's it's a football game. Things are gonna
happen and and players are gonna be made. They made
a play, That's how the game goes.
Speaker 14 (35:40):
Sometime and then you said that those are.
Speaker 6 (35:43):
Gonna come back.
Speaker 12 (35:44):
You said the last thing you wanted to catch up
to Grant, So now you there.
Speaker 15 (35:48):
Oh yeah it feel good.
Speaker 19 (35:49):
But now I gotta uh, I gotta s take take
one step ahead and uh go get another win and
uh lead, lead the team and a takeaway, so that
that's the goal.
Speaker 15 (35:57):
Try to keep uh.
Speaker 5 (35:58):
Rallying 'em up.
Speaker 19 (35:59):
You know, I hope Granted, I know he's gonna keep
competing trying to get some more takeaways. But that's the
goal that helps his team out, taking that ball away,
and that's the focus every week.
Speaker 7 (36:08):
Have you been to London.
Speaker 15 (36:11):
Before, No, not yet, so this would be a first time.
Speaker 8 (36:13):
What do you think the whole experience is gonna be like,
is it kind of like annoying or you embracing the
fact that you gotta fly all night and play over everything?
Speaker 15 (36:21):
Yeah, I think you gotta embrace it.
Speaker 19 (36:22):
I'm not necessarily looking forward to flying so far, you know,
I wouldn't, but I'm gonna embrace it.
Speaker 15 (36:27):
So I'm gonna enjoy it.
Speaker 19 (36:28):
Looking forward to going over there and uh just seeing
London a little bit and being able to play a
game of London you know, not how many people, because
I could do that. This will be my first London game,
so I'm looking forward to it though.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
